परमेश्वर के वचन से विभिन्न उदाहरणों के द्वारा हम परमेश्वर के वचन के पालन में लोगों द्वारा की जाने वाली विभिन्न गलतियों में से कुछ बातों को देखते आ रहे हैं। मुख्य बल इस बात पर रहा है कि परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उसके लोग उसके पूर्णतः आज्ञाकारी रहें। इस का अर्थ न केवल परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपे गए काम को करना है, बल्कि उसे उसी विधि से करना भी है, जो परमेश्वर ने उसे करने के लिए निर्धारित की है। परमेश्वर के कार्य को करने के लिए, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई विधि के स्थान पर, मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई किसी विधि को कभी भी लागू नहीं किया जा सकता है; और ऐसा कभी भी, बिलकुल भी नहीं करना चाहिये - ऐसा करने के सभी प्रयासों से दूर रहना चाहिये, उनका तिरस्कार करना चाहिये। इस बारे में हमने अभी तक परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होने के अपने इस अध्ययन जो देखा और सीखा है, आज हम उसका सारांश देखेंगे और उसे संक्षिप्त रूप में उसको दोहराएँगे; और फिर अगले लेख में परमेश्वर के कुछ ऐसे महान भक्तों के जीवनों को बहुत संक्षेप में देखेंगे, उनके उदाहरण से निष्कर्ष लेंगे, जिन्होंने परमेश्वर के निर्देशों की अवहेलना की, और उसकी बहुत भारी कीमत चुकाई।

 

अभी तक इस विषय पर हमने जो देखा और सीखा है, संक्षेप में इस प्रकार से है:

•  परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल, प्रभु यीशु मसीह का एक स्वरूप है (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14)। प्रभु यीशु का एक स्वरूप होने के नाते, यह उतना ही संपूर्ण और सिद्ध है जितना प्रभु यीशु हैं; और इसीलिए इसके साथ कोई छेड़-छाड़, उसमें कुछ जोड़ना या उसमें से कुछ घटना, आदि बिलकुल नहीं किए जा सकते हैं। इस लिखित वचन के साथ ऐसा कुछ भी करना एक तरह से प्रभु परमेश्वर के साथ करना है, और इसीलिए यह करने के बहुत गंभीर दुष्परिणाम हैं; ऐसा करना परमेश्वर द्वारा वर्जित किया गया है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:2; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)।

• शैतान का प्रयास रहता है कि मनुष्य के अन्दर किसी न किसी रीति से परमेश्वर तथा उसके वचन के प्रति सन्देह उत्पन्न करे, ताकि मनुष्य परमेश्वर के वचन पर भरोसा नहीं रखे, और मनुष्य परमेश्वर के विमुख हो जाए। अपने इस उद्देश्य को पूरा करने के लिए उसने कई युक्तियाँ बना रखी हैं, और व्यक्ति के अनुसार उपयुक्त युक्ति के उपयोग के द्वारा उसे बहका कर गिराने का प्रयास करता है (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:3, 13-15)। परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल ही शैतान के द्वारा उसकी इन युक्तियों के सफल प्रयोग करने के मार्ग में सबसे कारगर और प्रभावी हथियार है (2 तीमुथियुस 3:16-17; इब्रानियों 4:12)। इसीलिए शैतान की एक मुख्य युक्ति है मनुष्य के मन में परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के प्रति सन्देह उत्पन्न करना। जैसे ही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के वचन की आज्ञाकारिता करने की बजाए अपनी सोच-समझ पर भरोसा रख कर कार्य करता है, वह शैतान के फन्दे में फँस जाता है और पाप में गिर जाता है।

• बाइबल दिखाती है कि परमेश्वर के धार्मिक लोगों के द्वारा भी अपनी बुद्धि और समझ पर परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता से बढ़कर भरोसा करना, कितना गलत और हानिकारक हो सकता है। इन उदाहरणों में हम देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर के धार्मिक लोगों के द्वारा अपने ही विचार और समझ पर भरोसा रखने के कारण, वास्तव में वह कहा और किया गया जो परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध और उसे नापसंद था, जब कि उन्हें यही लग रहा था कि वे परमेश्वर का कार्य कर रहे हैं, उसका आदर कर रहे हैं। ये उदाहरण बाइबल का एक बहुत कम जाना और समझा गया तथ्य प्रकट करते हैं, ऐसा तथ्य जिसका एहसास बहुत कम मसीहियों को होता है, कि न केवल परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध कही गई बातें, लेकिन ऐसी बातें भी जो परमेश्वर के पक्ष में तो कही जाती हैं, किन्तु परमेश्वर के स्वभाव, गुणों, सत्य, और तथ्यों के अनुरूप न होने के कारण, वे बातें भी परमेश्वर को कतई स्वीकार्य नहीं होती हैं।

• यह एक बहुत ही सामान्य बात है, और अधिकांश लोग इसके बारे में सोचते भी नहीं हैं; वे यही मान कर चलते हैं कि परमेश्वर के वचन में जिस बात का उल्लेख हुआ है, यदि वे उसे कर रहे हैं, तो फिर जिस किसी तरह से भी वह किया जा रहा हो, उससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता है। वह तब भी परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में किया गया कार्य ही है, और इसलिए परमेश्वर को उससे प्रसन्न होना चाहिए और उसे स्वीकार करके उसके लिए उन्हें आशीष देनी चाहिए। इसलिए, वे परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखी हुई परमेश्वर के कार्य और उसकी आराधना तथा उपासना से संबंधित बातों को बहुत हलके में लेते हैं, और उनके बारे में मन-माने ढंग से बोलते और उपयोग करते हैं; जैसे कि प्रभु यीशु के क्रूस को, प्रभु यीशु के लहू को, प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होने को, बपतिस्मा लेने को, परमेश्वर को आराधना चढ़ाने उसकी उपासना करने को, इत्यादि। लोग इन सभी और वचन की ऐसी ही अन्य बातों को, चाहे श्रद्धा और भक्ति के भाव साथ, वैसे बोलते और पालन करते हैं जैसा उन्हें सही या, सहज लगता है; किन्तु वह उस प्रकार से नहीं होता जैसा कि परमेश्वर के वचन में उनके बारे में लिखा और करने के लिए कहा गया है। वास्तव में ऐसा करना परमेश्वर की आज्ञा का, उसकी व्यवस्था का उल्लंघन है और 1 यूहन्ना 3:4 में दी गई परिभाषा के अनुसार ये पाप हैं।

 

परमेश्वर के वचन के भण्डारी होने से सम्बन्धित इस अध्ययन के अगले लेख में, हम परमेश्वर के उन महान भक्त लोगों के उदाहरणों को संक्षेप में दोहराएंगे, जिन्हें हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं। परमेश्वर के इन भक्त लोगों ने ढीठ होकर परमेश्वर द्वारा दिये दिये गये निर्देशों की अनदेखी की, और कार्यों को उस प्रकार करने का निर्णय लिया, जैसा उन्हें अपनी दृष्टि में उचित लगा; और फिर अपनी इस धृष्टता की एक बहुत भारी कीमत चुकाई।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Summary and Conclusions

 

Through various examples from God’s Word, we have been seeing and learning about some of the errors that people can make regarding following God’s Word in their lives. The main emphasis has been that God wants complete obedience to His Word from His people. This not only means doing the God given work, but also doing it in the manner God has asked for it to be done. There should not be any substitution of God given way with a humanly devised way, to carry out what God wants done; and this should never ever be done - we should stay away from all such attempts, and all such attempts should be rejected outrightly. Today we will summarize and draw conclusions from what we have seen and learnt in this study on stewardship of God’s Word; and in the next article very briefly review the lives of some great men of God, who became presumptuous, ignored God’s instructions, and paid a very heavy price for this.

What we have seen and learnt so far on this topic, its summary is as follows:

• The Word of God, the Bible, is a form of the Lord Jesus (John 1:1, 14).  Being a form of the Lord Jesus, it is just as complete and perfect as the Lord Jesus is; and therefore, it cannot be tampered with, altered, added to, or taken away from. Doing any of these to the written Word is tantamount to doing it to the Lord God, and therefore, has serious deleterious consequences; has been forbidden by God (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19).

• Satan somehow wants to make man doubt God and His Word, so that man would not believe in God’s Word, and turn away from God. To accomplish this, he has devised various strategies, and uses the appropriate one against a person to beguile him (2 Corinthians 11:3, 13-15). God’s Word, the Bible is the most potent and effective weapon against Satan successfully implementing his strategies (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12). Hence, one of his main strategies is to create doubts in man’s heart about God and His Word.  As soon as the Believer trusts his own intellect over and above obedience to God’s Word and acts accordingly, he falls into Satan’s trap and sins.

• The Bible shows how flawed and disastrous reliance on one’s intellect and reasoning over and above obedience to God can be, even in a godly person’s life. Biblical examples of godly persons show that because of trusting their own thinking and reasoning, they were actually saying and doing things contrary and offensive to God, while thinking they were doing God’s Work, honoring God. This illustrates a very little-known Biblical fact, a fact that is hardly ever realized even by most Christian Believers, that not only things said contrary to God, but even things that are said in favour of God, but because of their not being in accordance with His character, attributes, truth, and facts, such things are absolutely unacceptable to God.

• It is a very common practice, and most people do not even think twice about it; they simply assume that so long as they are doing what is mentioned in God’s Word, however they may do it, the manner of their doing it does not matter. It is still something done in obedience to God, and God should be happy with it, accept it, and bless them for it. So, they take things mentioned in God’s Word, and regarding God’s work, and His worship very casually; speak about them and use them according to their own fancy, e.g., the Cross of the Lord Jesus, the Blood of Lord Jesus, the Holy Communion, Baptism, Worshipping God, etc. They talk about them and use them in a manner they think is right by their own understanding; though reverentially, but it is actually not in accordance with what God has written in His Word about them. But, in reality, it is sin as defined in 1 John 3:4, because they are transgressions of God’s law (KJV), or lawlessness (NKJV, NIV, NASB).

In the next article on stewardship of God’s Word, we will see a summary of the examples of the great men of God that we have considered earlier. God’s people being presumptuous and ignoring the instructions given by God, and doing things as they thought and saw it fit to do; and then paying a very heavy price for their being presumptuous.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेखों में हम मूसा, राजा शाऊल, और राजा दाऊद के जीवनों से बाइबल के अनुसार परमेश्वर का आज्ञाकारी होने के अर्थ को देखते और समझते आ रहे हैं। इन सभी उदाहरणों के द्वारा हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर का आज्ञाकारी होने का अर्थ व्यक्ति का केवल वह करना ही नहीं है जो परमेश्वर चाहता है कि वह करे; बल्कि उस काम को ठीक वैसे ही करना भी है जैसा कि परमेश्वर ने उसके विषय निर्देश दिए हैं, चाहे अपने वचन में लिखवाकर अथवा किसी को विशेष निर्देश देने के द्वारा। किसी भी व्यक्ति को, वह चाहे परमेश्वर का कितना भी बड़ा या महान भक्त क्यों न हो, चाहे परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने प्रेम और श्रद्धा को वह कितनी भी प्रबल रीति से व्यक्त करना क्यों न चाहता हो, यह अधिकार नहीं है कि वह परमेश्वर के वचन, उसके निर्देशों के साथ छेड़-छाड़ करे, उनमें किसी प्रकार की कोई फेर-बदल करे। कोई भी व्यक्ति, उसके लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा किसी भी निर्धारित कार्य को, उसके बारे में परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों की अनदेखी कर के, उसे अपनी इच्छा और अपनी पसंद के अनुसार, परमेश्वर के निर्देशों की बजाए उस कार्य को अपने या किसी मनुष्य के द्वारा बनाए तरीकों से नहीं कर सकता है। ऐसा इसलिये है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर का वचन प्रभु यीशु मसीह का ही एक स्वरूप है (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14); और इसलिये उसके साथ छेड़-छाड़ करना, स्वयं परमेश्वर के साथ छेड़-छाड़ करने के तुल्य है, उसका अपमान करना है। इसीलिये परमेश्वर के वचन को हलके में लेना, और यह सोचना कि उसमें फेर-बदल की जा सकती है, देर-सवेर परमेश्वर के न्याय और दण्ड को आमंत्रित करता है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:2; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)। आज हम बाइबल के इस सिद्धान्त, कि परमेश्वर का वचन पवित्र, सिद्ध, और अटल है और कोई उसको भ्रष्ट नहीं कर सकता है, की पुनः पुष्टि पुराने नियम के एक और उदाहरण, राजा उज्जिय्याह के जीवन से करेंगे, जो 2 इतिहास 26 अध्याय में पाया जाता है।

हम 2 इतिहास 26:1, 3 से देखते हैं की उज्जिय्याह 16 वर्ष की आयु में यहूदा का राजा बन गया था; तथा पद 4 से हम देखते हैं कि उसने वह किया जो परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में सही था; और फिर पद 5 में लिखा है “जब तक वह यहोवा की खोज में लगा रहा, तब तक परमेश्वर उसको भाग्यवान किए रहा।” और फिर पद 6-15 में वर्णन दिया गया है कि किस प्रकार से परमेश्वर ने उसकी सहायता की, उसे बढ़ाया, उसे बलवन्त और सामर्थी बनाया, उसके राज्य को दृढ़ और स्थापित किया।

 

लेकिन फिर पद 16 में सारी बात बिगड़ जाती है, राजा उज्जिय्याह के जीवन में, परमेश्वर से उसे प्राप्त हुए स्तर और हैसियत को लेकर उसमें उत्पन्न घमण्ड के कारण, बहुत बड़ी गिरावट आ जाती है। यहूदा का राजा होते हुए, उसने याजकों के कार्य को भी अपने लिए लेना चाहा, मंदिर में जाकर धूप जलाने का प्रयास करने के द्वारा – यह वह कार्य था जिसके लिए परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखा था कि इसे केवल याजकों को ही करना था (निर्गमन 30:7-8; गिनती 16:40)। यह उज्जिय्याह के द्वारा अपने अधिकार को जता कर यहूदा के राज्य के सामाजिक तथा आत्मिक, दोनों अधिकारों को अपनी अधीनता में लेने का प्रयास था। उज्जिय्याह परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित अपने लोगों का संचालन करने के लिए सामाजिक और आत्मिक अधिकारों को पृथक रखने के निर्वाह को तोड़ कर बदलना चाह रहा था।

हम 2 इतिहास 26:17-18 से देखते हैं कि अजर्याह याजक और उसके साथ के अस्सी याजकों ने उसका विरोध किया, और उसे यह करने से रोकना चाहा। उन्होंने उसे स्मरण करवाया कि जो वह करना चाह रहा है वह परमेश्वर द्वारा उसके लिए निर्धारित नहीं है, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं है। किन्तु पद 19-20 हमें दिखाते हैं कि उज्जिय्याह चेतावनी को स्वीकार करने के स्थान पर, झुंझलाया और क्रोधित हो गया, और उसने ढीठ होकर वही किया जो उसने ठान लिया था; यद्यपि वह परमेश्वर के वचन के, परमेश्वर के निर्देशों के विरुद्ध था; और उसे इसके लिये सचेत भी किया जा रहा था। इसका परिणाम यह हुआ कि तुरन्त ही परमेश्वर ने उसे कोढ़ी बना दिया। क्योंकि अब वह कोढ़ी हो गया था, इसलिए उसे तुरन्त ही धक्के दे कर परमेश्वर के भवन से बाहर निकाल दिया गया। न केवल उसे मन्दिर को छोड़ना पड़ा, वरन उसे अपने राज्य पर राजा होने को भी छोड़ना पड़ा, एक अलग घर में जाकर रहना पड़ा, और उसका पुत्र योताम राजघराने का कार्य संभालने लगा (पद 20-21)।

हम उज्जिय्याह के राजा होने के आरम्भ और अन्त में एक बहुत असाधारण विरोधाभास देखते हैं। उसका आरम्भ परमेश्वर का भक्त और आज्ञाकारी होने के साथ होता है, और इसके लिए परमेश्वर उसे बहुतायत से आशीष देता है, सामर्थी करता है। किन्तु इस समृद्धि, सामर्थ्य, और स्तर ने उसके मन में घमण्ड उत्पन्न किया, और उसने परमेश्वर द्वारा नियुक्त और निर्धारित बात को बदल कर, उसने उससे और भी अधिक लेने का प्रयास किया, जो उसके लिए निर्धारित था, जो उसे परमेश्वर ने दे दिया था। यह ठीक वैसा ही था जैसा लूसिफर ने स्वर्ग में किया था और उसे बाहर निकाल दिया गया, वह शैतान बन गया। उज्जिय्याह के लिए भी परिणाम विनाशकारी हुआ, और उसे भी उसके पद, प्रतिष्ठा, और राज्य से निकाल दिया गया। उसने परमेश्वर का आज्ञाकारी होने के द्वारा जो कुछ कमाया था, वह सब एक साथ ही गँवा दिया।

 

परमेश्वर किसी मनुष्य का पक्ष नहीं करता है “परमेश्वर किसी का पक्षपात नहीं करता” (गलातियों 2:6)। जब तक उज्जिय्याह परमेश्वर के प्रति विश्वासयोग्य रहा, परमेश्वर ने उसे आशीषित किया और बढ़ाया। लेकिन जब उसने परमेश्वर के वचन का उल्लंघन किया, और उसे दी जा रही चेतावनियों को नहीं माना, तब परमेश्वर को उसके विरुद्ध कार्य करना पड़ा। क्योंकि वह पहले भक्त और आज्ञाकारी रहा था, केवल इसलिए परमेश्वर ने उसके द्वारा वचन की अवहेलना करने को नज़रन्दाज़ नहीं किया। परमेश्वर के निर्देशों की अनदेखी करने, और अपनी ही सोच तथा बात पर अड़े रहने के परिणाम उसके लिए बहुत हानिकारक हुए; उसने जीवन भर के लिए सब कुछ गँवा दिया, उन्हें फिर कभी वापस प्राप्त नहीं करने पाया।

परमेश्वर के वचन के भण्डारी होने के नाते, हमें इस बात को ध्यान में रखना चाहिए कि जो परमेश्वर हमारे उसका आज्ञाकारी होने के कारण हमें आशीष दे सकता है, बढ़ा सकता है, वही परमेश्वर हमारे उसके वचन का निरादर करने और अनाज्ञाकारी होने के लिए गिरा भी सकता है और दण्ड भी दे सकता है। साथ ही यदि हमारे व्यक्तिगत जीवन में, या मण्डली में गिरावट आने लगी है, आशीषें जाती रही दिखती हैं, तो जांच लेना चाहिए कि कहीं हमारे व्यक्तिगत जीवन में और/या मण्डली में परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ कोई खिलवाड़, या उसका किसी प्रकार से निरादर और अनाज्ञाकारिता होना आरम्भ तो नहीं हो गया है, या किसी रीति से वचन के प्रति पूर्णतः आज्ञाकारी होना छूट तो नहीं गया है।

Improper Behavior Towards God’s Word - 9

 

In the previous articles, we have been considering through the life of Moses, King Saul, and King David, the Biblical meaning of being obedient to God. Through all these examples we have seen that obedience to God not only means doing what God wants a person to do, but also doing it in just the way He has instructed, either in His Word or through giving specific instructions related to that task. No man, however godly he may be, however strongly he may be inclined to express his love and reverence for God, has the right or authority to tamper with God’s Word, His instructions. No one can do things as he thinks they can be done, ignoring God’s instructions about them, and substituting them with man-made, man-devised instructions. This is because God’s Word is a form of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1, 14); therefore, to tinker with it, to modify and edit it, is tantamount to tinkering with God, trying to modify and edit God, which is insulting Him. Therefore, taking God’s Word casually and thinking that it can be altered or modified by man, sooner or later invites God' s judgment and punishment (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19). Today we will affirm this Biblical principle about the absolute sanctity of God’s Word that cannot be violated by anyone, for whatever reasons, through another Old Testament example, of King Uzziah, from 2 Chronicles chapter 26.

We see from 2 Chronicles 26:1, 3 that Uzziah became King over Judah at 16 years of age; and we also see from vs. 4 that he did what was right in the sight of God, and then vs. 5 says that “as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.” Then from vs. 6-15 is described how God helped and prospered him, made him strong and mighty, strengthened and established his kingdom.

 

But then in vs. 16 things take a turn for the worst, there is a steep downfall in King Uzziah’s life, due to pride in his stature, which God had given to him. Being the King of Judah, he also tried to take upon himself the functions of the Priests, by entering the Temple to burn incense on the altar – something that, as is written in God’s Word (Exodus 30:7-8; Numbers 16:40), only the Priests were meant to do. This was an attempt on Uzziah’s part to assert himself and take under him the Civil as well as the Spiritual authority in Judah. Uzziah was trying to break the God ordained pattern of separation of Civil and Spiritual authorities to govern God’s people.

We see from vs. 2 Chronicles 26:17-18 that the Azariah the Priest, along with eighty other priests, confronted him and tried to dissuade him from doing this. They reminded him that what he was trying to do was not ordained by God for him, and was unacceptable to God. But vs. 19-20 show us that Uzziah instead of taking heed, became furious, was angry with the priests, and stubbornly did what he had determined to do; even though it was against God’s Word and instructions, and he was being cautioned against doing it. The consequence was that immediately the Lord struck him with leprosy. Since he had now become leprous, he had to be thrust out of the house of the Lord. Not only did he have to leave the Temple of God, but also had to forgo his being King, and had to live in an isolated house for the rest of his life; his son Jotham carried out the duties of the King (vs. 20-21).

We see a very striking contrast at the beginning and end of Uzziah’s reign. He started off reverent and obedient to God, and God blessed him mightily for this. But this prosperity, strength, and stature generated pride in him, and he tried to modify what God had ordained, and thereby take more for himself than was his due, more than what God had already given him. This was the very thing that Lucifer had done in heaven, and because of it he had to be cast out, and became the devil. The consequence was disastrous for Uzziah as well, and he too was cast away from his stature, honor, and kingdom. In one moment, he lost everything he had gained by being obedient to God.

 

God is no respecter of persons, “God shows personal favoritism to no man” (Galatians 2:6). As long as Uzziah was faithful towards God, God blessed and prospered him. But when he transgressed God’s Word, and would not heed to the warnings being given to him, God had to act against him. God did not condone Uzziah’s disregard for God’s Word despite the warnings, just because he had been godly and obedient earlier. The consequences of ignoring God’s instructions and persisting with his own line of thinking were very severe; he lost everything, never to regain any of it for the rest of his life.

As stewards of God’s Word, we need to keep in mind that the same God who blesses and prospers us for obedience, He can also punish and pull us down for our dishonoring and disobeying His Word. Also, if in our personal lives, or in the Church, the Assembly, if there is a down falling, if the blessings are going away, then we need to examine and check if in some way we have tampered with God’s Word, or have in any way dishonored and disobeyed it, or have stopped being fully obedient to it in some ways, in our personal and/or congregational lives.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख में हमने राजा शाऊल के जीवन की घटनाओं के उदाहरणों से देखा था कि परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता का अर्थ होता है उसके कहे का पूर्णतः पालन करना; न केवल वह करना जो परमेश्वर चाहता है, वरन उसे वैसे ही और उसी समय में करना जैसे करने के लिए परमेश्वर ने कहा है। यह करना इसलिये अनिवार्य है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर का वचन प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही का एक स्वरूप है (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14), और वचन में कोई भी संशोधन या परिवर्तन करना, एक प्रकार से स्वयं प्रभु परमेश्वर में संशोधन या परिवर्तन करना है - जो परमेश्वर का अपमान और मनुष्य को परमेश्वर से बेहतर दिखाना है। 

राजा शाऊल ने वह तो किया जो परमेश्वर ने उस से करने के लिए कहा था, किन्तु वैसे नहीं किया जैसे परमेश्वर ने करने के लिए निर्देश दिए थे। इसलिए उसका किया परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में अनाज्ञाकारिता माना गया, परमेश्वर ने उसे तिरस्कार किया। और अन्ततः शाऊल को अपने ही तरीके से करने, मनुष्य के भय में होकर करने, और परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के स्थान पर मनुष्य को प्रसन्न करने के लिए कार्य को करने की एक बहुत भारी कीमत चुकानी पड़ी।

ये बातें - परमेश्वर के वचन और उसके निर्देशों, उसकी कार्यविधि की अनदेखी करना; परमेश्वर के भय में चलने के स्थान पर मनुष्य के भय में होकर काम करना; मनुष्य को आदर देने के लिए मनुष्य के कहे के अनुसार चलना और करना, तब भी जब वह परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार न भी हो; और यह मान लेना कि हम परमेश्वर के वचन की अपनी सहूलियत के अनुसार व्याख्या करने और परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार करने के लिए उद्यमी होने की बजाए, परमेश्वर के नाम में अपनी ही इच्छा तथा समझ के अनुसार कार्य करने के लिए स्वतंत्र हैं - ये अन्ततः परमेश्वर की नाराज़गी और उसके न्याय को लाती हैं, न कि उसके अनुमोदन और आशीषों को। आज हम बाइबल के इसी सिद्धान्त के राजा दाऊद के जीवन में कार्यकारी होने के बारे में देखेंगे, और फिर इससे अगले लेख में राजा उज्जियाह के जीवन से देखेंगे।

हम दाऊद के जीवन के उदाहरण को 1 इतिहास 13 और 15 अध्याय  से देखेंगे। पृष्ठभूमि यह है कि परमेश्वर का वाचा का संदूक बीस वर्ष से किर्यत्यारीम में अबीनादाब के घर में रखा हुआ था, और शाऊल ने राजा बनने के बाद उसके बारे में कुछ नहीं किया था (1 शमूएल 7:1-2)। दाऊद राजा बनने के बाद, परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने प्रेम और श्रद्धा की अभिव्यक्ति के रूप में वाचा के उस संदूक को वापस यरूशलेम लाने का निर्णय लेता है। इसलिए, यह करने के लिए, वह उस तरह से काम करता है जैसा करना उसे सही प्रतीत होता है। ध्यान दीजिए कि इस प्रक्रिया में परमेश्वर अथवा उसके वचन से मार्गदर्शन लेने का कोई उल्लेख नहीं है, न ही जिस तरीके से यह काम करने का निर्णय लिया गया उसके विषय परमेश्वर की इच्छा और सहमति प्राप्त करने का कोई उल्लेख है। दाऊद द्वारा 1 इतिहास 13:1-4 में उठाए गए क़दमों पर ध्यानपूर्वक विचार कीजिए:

• दाऊद ने सहस्त्रपतियों, शतपतियों अर्थात्  अपने सेनापतियों और सब प्रधानों से सम्मति ली (पद 1)।

• दाऊद द्वारा इस्राएलियों से लिए गए अनुमोदन में पहला उल्लेख उन लोगों का है, और बाद में एक औपचारिकता के समान परमेश्वर की इच्छा को कहा गया है (पद 2a)।

• दाऊद इस्राएलियों को बुलाने में पहला नाम प्रजा का लेता है, और फिर उसके बाद, एक औपचारिकता के रूप में, परमेश्वर के याजकों और लेवियों का नाम लेटा है (पद 2b)।

• वे सभी मिल कर, एक मन होकर, वाचा के सन्दूक को ले आने का निर्णय लेते हैं, “क्योंकि यह बात उन सब लोगों की दृष्टि में उचित मालूम हुई” (पद 4); बात के मनुष्य की दृष्टि में सही होने की तो परवाह थी, परन्तु परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में सही और उचित होने की किसी को परवाह नहीं थी, यह जानने का किसी ने प्रयास भी नहीं किया।

इसलिए सभी लोग परमेश्वर के वाचा के संदूक को लाने के लिए किर्यत्यारीम को जाते हैं। परमेश्वर के वाचा के संदूक को लाने के लिए वे एक नई गाड़ी को प्रयोग करते हैं, और दाऊद तथा उसके साथ सभी इस्राएली गीत गाते, स्तुति और आराधना करते हुए संदूक को लेकर निकलते हैं (पद 7-8)। लेकिन अचानक ही संदूक के लाने में गड़बड़ हो जाती है, और परमेश्वर क्रोधित होकर उज्जा नामक एक व्यक्ति को मार डालता है। दाऊद अप्रसन्न होता है, परमेश्वर से डर जाता है, संदूक को लाने के कार्य को रोक देता है, और परमेश्वर के वाचा के संदूक को तीन महीने तक एक अन्य व्यक्ति के घर में छोड़ देता है (पद 9-14)।

इसके बाद हम 1 इतिहास 15 अध्याय में देखते हैं कि दाऊद को अपनी गलती का एहसास होता है, उसे बात समझ में आती है। वह पहले संदूक के लिए यरूशलेम में स्थान तैयार करता है (पद 1), और फिर परमेश्वर ने जो निर्देश मूसा के द्वारा आने वचन में पहले से ही लिखवा रखे थे, उनका अंगीकार करता है, “लेवियों को छोड़ और किसी को परमेश्वर का सन्दूक उठाना नहीं चाहिये, क्योंकि यहोवा ने उन को इसी लिये चुना है कि वे परमेश्वर का सन्दूक उठाएं और उसकी सेवा टहल सदा किया करें” (1 इतिहास 15:2)। इसलिए, यद्यपि वह फिर से इस्राएलियों को एकत्रित करता है, लेकिन अब परमेश्वर के वाचा के संदूक को लाने की ज़िम्मेदारी स्वयं लेने के स्थान पर, वह इस ज़िम्मेदारी को हारून के संतानों और लेवियों को सौंपता है (पद 4-12)।

 

साथ ही दाऊद पहली बार की गई अपनी गलती को भी मान लेता है, “क्योंकि पहिली बार तुम ने उसको न उठाया इस कारण हमारा परमेश्वर यहोवा हम पर टूट पड़ा, क्योंकि हम उसकी खोज में नियम के अनुसार न लगे थे” (1 इतिहास 15:13)। याजक और लेवीय पहले अपने आप को पवित्र करते हैं, और उसके बाद परमेश्वर द्वारा मूसा से लिखवाई गई विधि के अनुसार परमेश्वर के वाचा के संदूक को लेकर आते हैं (पद 14-15)। इस बार स्तुति और आराधना में अगुवाई करने के लिए उचित गवैये, वाद्य यंत्र बजाने वाले, आदि भी नियुक्त किए जाते हैं (पद 16-24); और तब, इस बार परमेश्वर स्वयं वाचा के संदूक को लाने के लिए लेवियों की सहायता करता है (पद 26)। इस बार भी समस्त इस्राएल बड़े जोश के साथ उत्सव मना रहा था, स्तुति और आराधना कर रहा था (पद 25, 28); परन्तु इस बार परिणाम उनके पहले के प्रयास से भिन्न होता है, क्योंकि सभी काम परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित विधि से किए गए थे।

एक बार फिर से यह बहुत स्पष्ट है कि यद्यपि परमेश्वर का वचन और कार्य को करने के परमेश्वर के निर्देश उनके पास थे, किन्तु फिर भी दाऊद भी, जो परमेश्वर के मन के अनुसार व्यक्ति था (प्रेरितों 13:22), ने परमेश्वर की उन बातों को मानने की बजाए, अपनी इच्छा और समझ के अनुसार कार्य किया। दाऊद परमेश्वर के लिए बहुत उत्साही थी, उसे आदर देना चाहता था, उसके प्रति अपने प्रेम और श्रद्धा को व्यक्त करना चाहता था। वह जो परमेश्वर के लिए करना चाहता था, यद्यपि वह सही था, लेकिन पहली बार उसने जैसे इस कार्य को किया वह परमेश्वर के वचन के, तथा पहले से ही परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार नहीं था। इसलिए वह परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में अस्वीकार्य था, किसी भी रीति से अनाज्ञाकारिता से कम नहीं था। और इसीलिए उस कार्य के इतने दुखदायी परिणाम हुए; परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता की बजाए, परमेश्वर के एक भक्त, परन्तु मानवीय अगुवे, राजा दाऊद, की आज्ञाकारिता में कार्य करने की कीमत, उज्जा को परमेश्वर के प्रकोप को सहने और अपने प्राण देने से चुकानी पड़ी।

 

यह तथ्य कि दाऊद, दाऊद के सेनापति, उसके प्रधान, और इस्राएल के सभी लोग यह कार्य करने के लिए सहमत थे, उसके बारे में एक मन थे; सभी लोगों ने अपने भक्त अगुवे और राजा की आज्ञाकारिता में रहते हुए काम किया था; उनके द्वारा बड़े उत्साह के साथ स्तुति और आराधना करते हुए इस कार्य को किया गया था, आदि बातों ने इसे उनके लिए सही नहीं ठहरा दिया था, उनके द्वारा किए जा रहे परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों की अनदेखी को उचित नहीं बना दिया था। इन सभी बातों के होते हुए भी, परमेश्वर ने इसे अपने वचन को तुच्छ समझने और उसका अनाज्ञाकारी होने के समान ही देखा, चाहे इस कार्य का मुख्य व्यक्ति और करवाने वाला उसके मन के अनुसार व्यक्ति – दाऊद ही था।

केवल जब परमेश्वर के वचन को उसका उचित स्थान और महत्व प्रदान किया गया, जब कार्य को सही रीति से किया गया – परमेश्वर द्वारा पहले से ही उसके विषय दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार, तब ही परमेश्वर ने उसे स्वीकार किया, उस पर आशीष दी, और उसके लिए अपने लोगों की सहायता की। शिक्षा स्पष्ट है, किसी भी मनुष्य को, चाहे वह दाऊद के समान उच्च आत्मिक स्तर रखने वाला ही क्यों न हो, उसे परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ अनुचित व्यवहार करने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है; परमेश्वर को आदर देने या उसके प्रति प्रेम और श्रद्धा की अभिव्यक्ति के लिए भी नहीं; कोई भी परमेश्वर के वचन का दुरुपयोग कर के उसके दुष्परिणामों से बच नहीं सकता है।

 

परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने का अर्थ है यह सुनिश्चित करना कि परमेश्वर के वचन को ठीक उसी तरह से लिया, समझा, और पालन किया जाए जैसे कि परमेश्वर ने निर्देश दिए हैं; न कि किसी मनुष्य की इच्छा या लालसा के अनुसार, चाहे वह इच्छा परमेश्वर को आदर देने, उसके प्रति प्रेम और श्रद्धा को व्यक्त करने की ही क्यों न हो। परमेश्वर के वचन का उसके सही रूप में पालन करना, उस रूप में जैसा परमेश्वर ने हमें दिया है, केवल वही परमेश्वर को आज्ञाकारिता के लिए स्वीकार्य है। परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ किसी भी मनुष्य की इच्छा के अनुसार चाहे किसी भी उद्देश्य से क्यों न किया गया हो, उसे साथ किया गया किसी भी प्रकार का खिलवाड़ या अनुचित व्यवहार, परमेश्वर को कतई पसंद नहीं है, परमेश्वर उसे तिरस्कार करता है, ऐसा करने के गंभीर दुष्परिणाम होते हैं। अगले लेख में हम बाइबल के इसी सिद्धान्त की राजा उज्जिय्याह के जीवन से पुष्टि करेंगे।

In the previous article we have seen from the examples of incidents in King Saul’s life, that obedience to God not only means complete adherence to what He has said about doing things for Him; but also doing them the way He wants them done, through the means He wants them done, in the time and manner He wants them done. Doing this is mandatory, since God’s Word is a form of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1, 14), and any editing or modification of God’s Word is editing or modifying the Lord God - which is insulting God and showing man to be better than God.

 

King Saul did what God wanted done, but not the way God had said it ought to be done. This was considered as disobedience in God’s eyes, and was rejected by God. And eventually Saul had to pay a heavy price for doing things in his own way, and for doing things in the fear of man, to please man, rather than doing them to please God.

Things like - ignoring God’s Word, and God’s instructions; placing the fear of man over and above the fear of God in our lives; to walk and work according to the instructions of a man to show respect and honor for that man, even though what that man says is at variance from or contrary to God’s instructions; and assuming that we have the liberty to interpret and to use God’s Word, and God’s instructions according to our own discretion and understanding, instead of being diligent to stay obedient to God - they eventually result in earning the displeasure of God and suffering His judgment, instead of getting His approval and blessings. Today we will see this Biblical principle at work in King David’s life, and then in the next article we will see about it from King Uzziah’s life.

Let us look at David’s example through 1 Chronicles chapters 13 and 15. The background is that the Ark of God was stationed in Kirjath Jearim, in the house of Abinadab for twenty years, and Saul after becoming King had done nothing about it (1 Samuel 7:1-2). David after becoming King, in his love and reverence for God, decides to fetch the Ark back to Jerusalem. So, to do this, he does what seems to him the right thing to do. Note that in this whole process there is no mention of consulting God or His Word, of taking His guidance, getting His consent and approval for the manner he wanted to do it. Consider carefully the steps David takes in 1 Chronicles 13:1-4:

• David consults the captains of his army and every other leader (vs. 1).

• David places receiving the consent and approval of men first, and then after that perfunctorily mentions the Lord God (vs. 2a).

• David primarily calls for the remaining people from the lands, and then as an afterthought the priests and the Levites (vs. 2b).

• They all with one accord decide to bring back the Ark, “for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people” (vs. 4); they were mindful and obedient to being right in the eyes of men, but there  is no mention or concern, whether it was right in the eyes of God.

So, everybody goes to Kirjath Jearim, to bring up the Ark of God. To carry the Ark they use a new cart, and David and all Israelites joyfully sing, play music, and worship God (vs. 7-8). But then, all of sudden things go wrong with the transportation, and God being angry kills a person named Uzza. David is shocked, angry, and afraid of God, drops the transportation, and leaves the Ark in another man’s house for the next three months (vs. 9-14).

Then we see in 1 Chronicles chapter 15 that sense dawns on David, and he realizes his error. Now, he first prepares a place, a tent in Jerusalem (vs. 1), and then acknowledges what God had already put in his Word through Moses, “No one may carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever” (1 Chronicles 15:2). So, now though he again assembles all Israel, but now instead of taking upon himself the transportation of the Ark, he hands the responsibility of the transportation to the descendants of Aaron and the Levites (vs. 4-12). 

David also confesses his error of not doing it the God appointed way the first time, “For because you did not do it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order” (1 Chronicles 15:13). The priests and the Levites first sanctify themselves, then bring up the Ark the way God had got it written through Moses (vs. 14-15). This time, appropriate worship leaders, singers, music players, etc. are also appointed to lead in praise and worship (vs. 16-24); and then, this time God helped them bring the Ark (vs. 26). Like the previous attempt, all of Israel was joyfully celebrating the event and worshipping (vs. 25, 28); but now the result was different from their earlier attempt, because now things had been done in God’s ordained manner.

Once again, it is so apparent, so clear that even though God’s Word is there, God’s instructions of doing a thing are available, yet even David, a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), assumes things instead of following those instructions. David was zealous for the Lord God, wanted to honor him, express his love and reverence for Him. Though what he wanted to do for God was right, but the way he initially did it was not according to God’s Word, not according to God’s instructions already given beforehand. So, it was unacceptable to God, was nothing short of disobedience in the eyes of God. Hence the painful consequences; instead of obedience to God, being obedient to the godly yet human leader, King David, cost Uzza his life.

 

The fact that David, David’s Captains, his leaders, the people of Israel were all agreed upon doing this and were of one mind about doing it; the people’s obeying and following their King and godly leader, and obeying his instructions, their collective exuberant joyful and worship did not in any way make things right for them, nor did it justify their disregard and disobedience for God’s instructions. Despite all this, in God’s eyes, their disobedience remained disobedience, and God had to deal with it as disregard to His Word and disobedience, even though the main person involved and getting it done was David – a man after God’s own heart.

Only when God’s Word was given its due place and importance, when the right thing was done the right way – according to God’s instructions for it, did God accept it, bless it, and He helped His people for it. The lesson is clear, no man, not even someone of the spiritual stature of David has the right to treat God’s Word inappropriately; not even as an expression or attempt to honor God or show love and reverence towards God; no one can misuse God’s Word and get away with it.

 

To be a steward of God’s Word means to make sure that God’s Word is taken, understood, and followed just as God has instructed, and not according to any man’s fancy or desire, even if that fancy or desire is for honoring God, to express love and reverence for God. Following God’s Word in its true form, the form it has been given to us, is the only thing accepted as obedience by God; any manipulation of God’s Word according to man’s mind, for whatever purpose, is disliked and rejected by God, and it has serious deleterious consequences. In the next article we will reaffirm this Biblical principle from the life of King Uzziah.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
