पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में 2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17 से सीखते आ रहे हैं, जिस से कि हम भी वैसा ही करने वाले बनें। पौलुस द्वारा लिखे गए लेखों में से हमने देखा है कि पहली कलीसिया के समय से ही, कुछ नहीं वरन बहुतेरे प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों ने, परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षा और उपदेश देने को व्यक्तिगत लाभ कमाने के लिए उपयोग करना आरम्भ कर दिया था। ऐसा करने के लिए वे परमेश्वर के वचन और सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ते और भ्रष्ट करते थे। आज से हम अपने ध्यान को पौलुस द्वारा कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी दूसरी पत्री के एक अन्य खण्ड, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 पर ले कर जाएंगे, और वहाँ से पौलुस के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में कुछ और बातों को सीखेंगे।

पौलुस ने इस से पिछले अध्याय में, अर्थात 2 कुरिन्थियों अध्याय 3 में कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली के लोगों से कहा था कि वे ही उसकी सेवकाई का प्रमाण और उसके लिए सिफारिश की पत्रियाँ हैं, जिन्हें लोग पढ़ सकते हैं और देख तथा समझ सकते हैं कि वह क्या प्रचार कर रहा और सिखा रहा था। पौलुस, 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:12 में अपनी सेवकाई से संबंधित एक और बात कहता है – क्योंकि, जिस सुसमाचार का वह प्रचार करता था, उस से उसके पास जो आशा थी, अनन्तकाल की और धन्य आशा, उसके कारण वह हिम्मत या साहस के साथ प्रचार करता था। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि पौलुस ने निःसंकोच अपने बारे में यह कहा था कि लोग उसे कोई अच्छा या प्रभावी वक्ता नहीं समझते थे (2 कुरिन्थियों 10:1, 10)। किन्तु इस से उसे कोई परेशानी नहीं होती थी, क्योंकि वह वही कहता था जो पवित्र आत्मा उसे बोलने के लिए कहता था, और तब ही बोलता था जब और जहाँ पवित्र आत्मा उसे बोलने के लिए कहता था। इसलिए, जैसे उसने 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:6-8 में कहा है, वह केवल उसे दिए गए बीज का बोने वाला था, केवल उसे सौंपे गये सन्देश का सन्देश-वाहक था; उसके इस परिश्रम को परिणाम परमेश्वर देता था। इसलिए, परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई को पूरी करने के लिए, पौलुस को अपनी किसी योग्यता अथवा कौशल पर कभी भी निर्भर नहीं होना पड़ता था। वह अच्छे से जानता और समझता था कि यदि वह पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन एवं सामर्थ्य में होकर प्रचार और शिक्षा देना करता रहेगा, तो परमेश्वर उपयुक्त परिणाम भी देगा और उसके परिश्रम को आशीषित भी करेगा। तो फिर, पौलुस ने यहाँ पर यह क्यों लिखा, “हम हियाव के साथ बोलते हैं”?

वर्तमान में हमारे इस शब्द हियाव या साहस के उपयोग के अनुसार, हम इसके अर्थ को जोखिम उठाने, मुंहफट या उद्दण्ड होने के साथ लेते हैं। किन्तु मूल यूनानी भाषा में जिस शब्द का उपयोग किया गया है, और जिसका अनुवाद यहाँ ‘हियाव’ या ‘साहस’ किया गया है, उसका वास्तविक अर्थ है स्पष्ट बोलने वाला या सीधी बात बोलने वाला, वह जो अपनी बात के प्रति निःसंकोच है और उसको खुल कर या बेबाक होकर कहता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, पौलुस को अपने सन्देश के बारे में कभी कोई संकोच नहीं था, वह अपनी बात के लिए कभी कोई हिचकिचाहट नहीं रखता था, और जो भी बोलता था उसे दृढ़ता से कहता था। परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे दिए गए सन्देश को देने के लिए वह कभी चतुराई की बातों का या बात को सांकेतिक भाषा में कहने का प्रयास नहीं करता था; न ही किसी आलंकारिक भाषा का, या बात को घुमा-फिरा कर कहने की शैली का उपयोग करता था; और न ही उसे अपने सन्देश को आकर्षक, लुभावना, और श्रोताओं के लिए रुचिकर बनाने का कोई प्रयास करता था। ध्यान कीजिये कि 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:12 में वह केवल “साहस” नहीं वरन् “बड़े साहस” [as given in Hindi IBP Bible and English translations] के साथ बोलता था, अर्थात् वह इस बात पर ज़ोर देता है कि वह अभिव्यक्ति की इस स्पष्टता के बारे में बहुत ध्यान रखता था। ऐसा इसलिए था क्योंकि वह इस बात के प्रति बहुत दृढ़ था कि उसने परमेश्वर से जैसा सन्देश प्राप्त किया है, उसे वैसा ही प्रस्तुत भी करे, बिना उस में अपनी और से कुछ भी जोड़े, या अपने द्वारा उसकी प्रस्तुति को और बेहतर बनाने का प्रयास किए (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23; 15:3; गलातियों 1:12; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:2)।

पौलुस इसी सन्दर्भ में 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 में, अपने और अपने सह-कर्मियों के लिए, उन्हें परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई की विषय कहता है, “तो हम हियाव नहीं छोड़ते।” इसे हम अगले लेख से देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 17

 

For the past few articles, we have been considering Paul’s utilizing and handling God’s Word from 2 Corinthians 2:17, so that we can learn to do the same. Through Paul’s writings, we have seen how, not a few, but many preachers and teachers, right from the time of the first Church, had started to use the preaching and the teaching of God’s Word for personal gain and benefit. They did this by distorting and corrupting God’s Word and the gospel. From today we will shift our focus to another section of Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, to 2 Corinthians 4:1-5, and from there learn some more things from Paul about utilizing and handling the Word of God.

Paul had said to the Corinthian Believers in the previous chapter, i.e., 2 Corinthians chapter 3, that they were the proof of his ministry and his letter of recommendation, for the world to see, read, and understand what he was preaching and teaching. Paul in 2 Corinthians 3:12 also states another thing related to his ministry – because of the hope, the eternal and blessed hope, that he had, through the gospel which he preached, he used great boldness of speech in his preaching. We have seen earlier that Paul unhesitatingly admitted that he was not considered to be a great or skillful orator (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10) by the people. But this did not bother him, since he only spoke what the Holy Spirit asked him to say; and said it when and where the Holy Spirit asked him to speak. So, as he had stated in 1 Corinthians 3:6-8, he was only the sower of the seed that had been given to him, merely the conveyor of the given message; it was God who gave results to his labor. Hence, he did not have to bother about or depend upon any of his personal skills and abilities to fulfill his God assigned ministry. He well knew and understood that if he continued to preach and teach under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, God would give the required results, and bless his efforts. Why then did he need to use “great boldness of speech” in preaching the gospel and teaching God’s Word?

We tend to misunderstand this word ‘boldness’ in our present manner of using this word; since we understand it to mean being impudent, or being aggressive, or taking risks in face of dangers. But the word used in the original Greek language and translated as ‘boldness’ here, means being out-spoken, or speaking very plainly, being frank, forthright, and clear about what was being spoken. In other words, Paul had no doubts, never vacillated, and was firm in what he spoke. In conveying his God given message, he neither ‘beat around the bush’, did not use any flowery or idiomatic language, nor did he have to resort to anything that would make his preaching attractive, appealing, and pleasing to the audience. Notice that Paul does not only say ‘boldness’ but ‘great boldness’ in 2 Corinthians 3:12; i.e., he emphasizes this to convey that he was very particular about maintaining clarity of expression. This was because, as we have seen about him in the previous articles, he was very particular to present God’s message just as he had received it, without adding anything to it from his side, or trying to improve its presentation by any means (1 Corinthians 11:23; 15:3; Galatians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 4:2).

It is in this context, that Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:1, that he and his colleagues ‘do not lose heart’’ in their ministry given to them by God. We will start considering this in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है, परमेश्वर के वचन के कुछ गुण और उद्देश्य हैं, और यदि वचन को परमेश्वर के पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य के साथ, उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्य के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है, तब ये गुण और उद्देश्य दिखाई भी देते हैं। हमारे विषय, परमेश्वर के वचन के “बाहर जाना” के संदर्भ में, हमें इन गुणों और उद्देश्यों का ध्यान रखना अनिवार्य है। परमेश्वर का वचन एक तलवार के समान हृदय को गहराई से छेदने और वहाँ छिपी हुई पापमय बातों को उजागर करने के लिए है (इब्रानियों 4:12)। उसका उपयोग मण्डली के लोगों में, उन्हें सुधरने और धार्मिकता की शिक्षा दिए जाने के लिए किया जाना है, और यदि आवश्यक हो तो इसके लिए डाँटना और उलाहना देना भी किया जाना चाहिए (2 तीमुथियुस 3:16-17; 4:2)। जब तलवार को उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्य के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है, तो वह काटती और छेदती है, जो हमेशा ही पीड़ादायक होता है। वचन के कुछ उपयोग, जैसे कि परमेश्वर की आराधना, स्तुति, प्रशंसा, धन्यवाद के लिये, परमेश्वर के गुणों और कार्यों के बारे में बताने के लिये, आदि, में उपरोक्त बातें नहीं होती हैं। परन्तु तब भी वचन परमेश्वर का गुणानुवाद करता है, उसके बारे में सिखाता है, आत्मिक जीवन और बातों में, आत्मिक उन्नति की अविनाशी और स्थाई बातों के लिये प्रोत्साहित करता है (रोमियों 12:1-2; फिलिप्पियों 4:8-9; कुलुस्सियों 3:2)। न कि किसी व्यक्ति की प्रशंसा, गुणानुवाद, और बड़ाई करता है, नश्वर और अस्थाई सांसारिक सुख-समृद्धि-लाभ अर्जित करने की प्रेरणा देता है (2 यूहन्ना 2:15-17; याकूब 4:1-4)।

 

इसलिए, यदि परमेश्वर का वचन कहीं चुभ नहीं रहा है, जीवन की कोई कमजोरी या कमी या पाप को उजागर नहीं कर रहा है, सुनने वालों को उनके भीतर की, उनके मन और विचारों की वास्तविक दशा का बोध नहीं करवा रहा है, तो फिर वह अपने निर्धारित उद्देश्य को पूरा नहीं कर रहा है, क्योंकि उसे उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्य के लिये प्रयोग नहीं किया जा रहा है। और तब ऐसे किसी भी प्रचार या शिक्षा को स्वीकार करने और मानने के प्रति बहुत सतर्क रहना चाहिए। यदि प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक बाइबल के अनुसार सही शिक्षाएँ नहीं दे रहा है, और यदि आवश्यक होने पर भी डाँटने और उलाहना देने का उपयोग नहीं कर रहा है, तो फिर उस प्रचारक पर भरोसा करना, उसका अनुसरण करना गलत होगा। यहाँ यह तर्क भी लागू नहीं होता है कि वचन को समकालीन और प्रासंगिक करके प्रस्तुत किया जा रहा है। क्योंकि, जैसा हम देख चुके हैं, हमारे हाथों में जो वचन है, वह प्रभु यीशु का एक स्वरूप है (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14; प्रकाशितवाक्य 19:11-13), और यह वचन अटल है, स्वर्ग में अनंतकाल के लिये स्थापित है (भजन 119:89)। इसलिये इसमें कोई परिवर्तन करना या उसे समकालीन और प्रासंगिक करने का कोई स्थान ही नहीं है, अन्यथा वह तो परमेश्वर प्रभु यीशु मसीह में परिवर्तन और संशोधन करने के समान हो जाएगा।

परमेश्वर के वचन को “स्वादिष्ट” और सहज बनाने के लिए, ये “बेचने” वाले प्रचारक वचन की तीखी औ काटने वाली बातों को निकाल देते हैं, और उनके स्थान पर प्रसन्न करने वाली मनोहर बातें डाल देते हैं। इस प्रकार से वे 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:6 के निर्देश के विरुद्ध, परमेश्वर के लिखित वास्तविक वचन के “बाहर” चले जाते हैं, उसकी गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग करने, तथा उसमें अपने ही विचार डाल देने, उसे श्रोताओं को भावता हुआ बनाने के लिये। ऐसे प्रचारक और उनकी शिक्षाएँ संभवतः श्रोताओं द्वारा बहुत पसन्द की जाएँगी, उनकी प्रशंसा की जाएगी; और प्रचारक को अच्छे उपहार तथा पैसा भी मिलेगा, तथा साथ ही सिफारिश के पत्र भी दिए जाएंगे, जिनका उपयोग ये लोग अपनी बड़ाई और प्रचार के लिए तथा फिर किसी अन्य कलीसिया में जाकर इसी प्रक्रिया को दोहराने के लिए करेंगे। लेकिन क्योंकि परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा श्रोताओं की वास्तविक पापमय दशा उजागर करके उन पर प्रकट नहीं की गई, और न ही श्रोताओं का सामना उनके पापों, बुराइयों, और उनके अनन्तकालीन दुष्परिणामों से करवाया गया, इसलिए वे अपने पापों के लिए कायल भी नहीं होंगे। और इसीलिए फिर वे अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करने, और उद्धार पाने के लिए उभारे भी नहीं जाएंगे (प्रेरितों 2:37-38)। इसलिए ऐसा प्रचार, उसे सुनने वालों के उद्धार के सन्दर्भ में, व्यर्थ ठहरेगा; और ऐसे संदेशों को सुनने के बाद भी वे लोग नरक के उतने ही भागी बने रहेंगे, जितना वे उस सन्देश को सुनने से पहले थे।

यह समस्या केवल तब ही नहीं थी, लेकिन आज भी है, उससे कहीं अधिक प्रचलित नहीं तो कम से कम उतनी ही गंभीर तो है ही, जितनी आरम्भिक कलीसिया के समय में थी। आज के समय के पास्टरों, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों का मुख्य उद्देश्य रहता है कि किसी भी तरह से मण्डली के लोगों को बुरा न लगे, ठेस न पहुँचे। यह और भी अधिक तब किया जाता है जब वह प्रचारक कलीसिया के बाहर कहीं से आमंत्रित किया गया होता है। तब ये लोग विशेषतः वही कहते हैं जो लोग सुनना चाहते हैं, जिसे सुनकर वे प्रसन्न होते हैं (2 तीमुथियुस 4:3-4), ताकि भविष्य में उन्हें फिर से बुलाया जाए। परमेश्वर के वचन को “बेचने” वाले ये लोग पार्थिव आशीषों, साँसारिक समृद्धि, शारीरिक चंगाइयों, भौतिक आश्चर्यकर्मों, उज्ज्वल भविष्य की प्रतिज्ञाओं, आदि की बातें करेंगे, लेकिन वे पाप, पाप से पश्चाताप, उद्धार पाने और अनन्त विनाश से बचने की अनिवार्यता – जिस उद्देश्य के लिए प्रभु यीशु मसीह पृथ्वी पर आया था, आदि के बारे में बात नहीं करेंगे।

थोड़ा विचार कीजिए, “बेचने” वाले ये पास्टर, प्रचारक, शिक्षक जितनी भी भौतिक, पार्थिव, शारीरिक, साँसारिक बातों की बातें करते हैं, ऐसी बातें जो श्रोताओं को अच्छी और “स्वादिष्ट” लगें, वे सभी बातें एक न एक दिन सँसार के साथ या तो नाश हो जाएँगी, अथवा मृत्यु के बाद यहीं पीछे छूट जाएँगी। उस व्यक्ति के साथ जो एकमात्र बात जाएगी, वह है उसके जीवन का हिसाब-किताब, उसके पापों का लेखा-जोखा (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10)। तो फिर, ऐसे संदेशों को सुनने वालों के लिए, उन प्रचारकों के ये परमेश्वर के वचन के “बाहर” होकर, मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए दिए जाने वाले इन सन्देशों से क्या लाभ होगा? यदि श्रोता अपने पापों के लिए कायल नहीं किए गए, उन्होंने अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप नहीं किया, और वे प्रभु यीशु मसीह को अपना व्यक्तिगत उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करने के द्वारा बचाए नहीं गए, तो उन मनोहर, मधुर बातों को सुनने से उन्हें क्या लाभ हुआ?

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 16

 

As we have seen in the previous article, the Word of God has certain characteristics and purposes; they become evident when it is used under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, for its intended purpose. In context of our understanding “going beyond” God’s Word, we need to keep these characteristics of God’s Word in mind. God’s Word is like a sword meant to cut deep into the heart and expose the sinful things hidden there (Hebrews 4:12). It is meant to be used amongst the congregation to correct the people and instruct them in righteousness, if required through rebuking and exhorting as well (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 4:2). A sword when used for its intended purpose, always cuts and penetrates, and that is always painful. Sometimes, the Word can be used for worshipping, praising, adoring, and thanking God; for preaching or teaching about God’s attributes and works, and then the message does not have the aforementioned characteristics. But even then, the Word exalts God, teaches about Him, encourages about spiritual life and things, and teaches to be edified in the forever established and eternal heavenly things of lasting value (Romans 12:1-2; Philippians 4:8-9; Colossians 3:2). It still does not teach to exalt, praise, or promote any person, nor does it encourage to go after temporal and perishing things, wealth, and gains of this world (2 John 2:15-17; James 4:1-4).

 

So, if God’s Word is not creating any discomfort by touching upon sin and short-comings in one’s life, is not making the listeners aware of the actual condition of their hearts and minds, then it is not serving its purpose, because it is not being used for its intended purpose. And one should be very wary of believing in any such preaching. If the preacher or teacher is not teaching Biblically correct doctrines, and if required, is not resorting to rebuking and exhortation to teach the correct things of God, then that preacher is not to be trusted upon and followed. Here, this argument is untenable that the Word is being presented in a relevant and contemporary manner. Since, as we have seen, the Word that we have in our hands, is a form of the Lord Jesus (John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:11-13), and this Word is unchanging, being settled in heaven forever (Psalm 119:89). Therefore, there is no possibility of altering it in any way or making it contemporary or relevant, since that will tantamount to altering and editing the Lord God Jesus Christ.

To make God’s Word “palatable” and convenient, these peddling preachers take away the sharp and cutting parts of the Word, and substitute them with pleasing and pleasant things in their preaching and teaching. Thus, contrary to the instruction of 1 Corinthian 4:6, they “go beyond” what God’s Word actually says, by misinterpreting it, misusing it, adding their own ideas to it, to make it sound pleasing to the audience. These preachers and their messages would most likely be well appreciated and applauded by the listeners; and the preacher would likely get good gifts and money, and would also be given letters of recommendation, which they will use to promote themselves and then repeat the same process in some other Church. But since, the actual inner sinful state of the audience has not been cut into and exposed by God’s Word, nor have the audience been brought face-to-face with their wrongs and sins, and the eternal deleterious consequences have not been brought before them, so, they are not convicted for their sins. Therefore, they are not motivated into repentance for their sins, and seeking salvation (Acts 2:37-38). Hence, such preaching will bring no results in terms of salvation of the listeners, and even after hearing and appreciating such messages, they would still remain as hell-bound, as they had been before listening to it.

This problem was not only present at that time, but is present even today, if not worse then at the very least, it is just as serious, as it was in the first Church. The main aim of most of the present-day pastors, preachers, and teachers of God’s Word, is not to offend the congregation in any way. This is done even more if they have been called “guest or invited” speakers, from an outside Church. Then they make it a point to say things that the congregation likes to hear and is pleased to hear (2 Timothy 4:3-4), so that they may be invited again. The peddlers of God’s Word will talk of temporal blessings, material prosperity, physical healings, worldly miracles, promises of a great future, etc. but will stay away from talking about sin, need of repentance for sin, and the necessity of salvation to escape eternal damnation – the very purpose the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth for.

Think it over, every worldly thing that these peddling pastors, preachers, and teachers talk about, to sound good and palatable to the audience, will eventually perish with the world, or be left behind when the person dies. The only thing that will go with that person, for accountability before God is the record of their lives, their record of sins (2 Corinthians 5:10). So, of what benefit has this “going beyond” God’s Word and being pleasers of men been to those who heard and appreciated those messages? Since they were not convicted of their sins, did not repent from them, and did not get saved by accepting the Lord Jesus as their savior, then how did their listening to pleasant and sweet talk benefit them?

In the next article, we will take up another part of God’s Word, and learn some more things from it about how Paul used and handled God’s Word.

Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

हम इन गुणों और उद्देश्यों को संक्षेप में तीन स्थानों से देख और समझ सकते हैं:

• पौलुस ने तिमुथियुस को लिखा कि परमेश्वर के वचन को उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्यों, अर्थात् “उपदेश, और समझाने, और सुधारने, और धर्म की शिक्षा के लिये” उपयोग करे। परमेश्वर द्वारा उसके वचन के बारे में निर्धारित इन चार उद्देश्यों में से कम से दो (समझाना और सुधारना – हिन्दी में कुछ हलके शब्द लिखे गए हैं, मूल भाषा और अंग्रेज़ी अनुवादों में प्रयोग किए गए शब्द अधिक कठोर हैं), नहीं तो तीन (धर्म की शिक्षा), ऐसे उद्देश्य हैं जिन्हें लोग उन पर लागू किया जाना पसंद नहीं करते हैं। और परमेश्वर के अधिकांश सेवक अपनी इस ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह करने में बहुत संकोच भी करते हैं, कहीं कलीसिया के लोग बुरा न मान जाएँ। शेष बचे हुए उद्देश्य “धर्म की शिक्षा” के लिए भी अधिकांशतः परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गई शिक्षाओं की अवहेलना की जाती है, और उसे बदला जाता है, या उसके स्थान पर मनुष्यों की बनाई हुई बातें सिद्धांतों के समान सिखाई और लागू की जाती है। ये सभी परमेश्वर के वचन से आगे बढ़कर करने के उदाहरण हैं। जी शिक्षा और शिक्षक में ये गुण और उद्देश्य नहीं हैं, वह परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार खरी और सही भी नहीं है। और ऐसा भी नहीं है कि यह कहा जाए कि समय, स्थान और सभ्यता के अनुसार वचन को प्रासंगिक करना चाहिये। क्योंकि, जैसा कि हम देख चुके हैं, हमारे हाथों में जो वचन है, वह प्रभु यीशु का एक स्वरूप है (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14; प्रकाशितवाक्य 19:11-13), और यह वचन अटल है, स्वर्ग में अनंतकाल के लिये स्थापित है (भजन 119:89)। इसलिये इसमें कोई परिवर्तन या प्रासंगिक करने का कोई स्थान नहीं है, अन्यथा वह तो परमेश्वर प्रभु यीशु मसीह में परिवर्तन और संशोधन करने के समान हो जाएगा। 

• पौलुस ने 2 तिमुथियुस 4:2-5 में तिमुथियुस को ज़ोर देकर कहा कि वह दुःख उठाकर भी परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार करे, और अपनी सेवकाई को पूरा करने के लिए जहाँ आवश्यक हो वहाँ लोगों को समझाने और सिखाने के लिए डाँटने और उलाहना देने से पीछे न हटे। गलत शिक्षाएं देने वाले शैतान के जन, परमेश्वर के वचन की सही और खरी शिक्षा देने के लिए यह कभी नहीं करेंगे, क्योंकि उनका उद्देश्य ही लोगों को सही से दूर और गलत में फँसाए रखना है; इसलिये वे केवल उन्हें प्रसन्न करने वाली बातें कहेंगे, कुछ ऐसा जो उन्हें अप्रसन्न करे, उसे कभी नहीं कहेंगे।

• नए नियम में, परमेश्वर के वचन को दो-धारी तलवार से भी अधिक तेज़ और चोखा कहा गया है (इब्रानियों 4:12), जो मनुष्य के भीतर तक जाकर “मन की भावनाओं और विचारों को जांचता है।” जिस प्रकार से तलवार का शरीर में घुसना और काटना पीड़ादायक होता है, उसी प्रकार से जब परमेश्वर का वचन पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में प्रचार किया जाता है, तो वह मनुष्य के हृदय को छेदता है, उसमें छिपे हुए पापमय विचारों और बातों को खोल देता है। हृदय या विवेक का यह छेदा जाना एक पीड़ादायक और उजागर कर देने वाला अनुभव होता है, जो केवल सही वचन के खराई से प्रचार किए जाने के साथ ही देखा जाता है, अन्यथा नहीं।

 

अब यदि किसी को परमेश्वर के वचन को “बेचना” या अपने लाभ के लिए उपयोग करना है, जैसा कि ये झूठे प्रचारक और शिक्षक करते हैं, तो फिर उन्हें उसे आकर्षक और मनुष्यों को भावता हुआ बना कर प्रस्तुत करना होगा, जिस से कि प्रचारक को प्रशंसा भी मिले और उसकी अच्छी कमाई भी हो। इसके लिए उसे परमेश्वर के वचन में “उपयुक्त” फेर-बदल भी करने होंगे ताकि वह फिर तलवार के समान गहराई से छेदने और उजागर करने वाला न रहे; और न ही वह प्रचारक लोगों को सत्य का अनुसरण करने के लिए डाँटने, उलाहना देने, गलतियों को सुधारने की बातें करेगा।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 15

 

Since the previous article we have started looking at 2 Corinthians 2:17, to learn how and why people and preachers go beyond what is written in God’s Word. We saw in the previous article that the main reason for going beyond God’s Word is selfish gain and gathering material possessions. We also saw the contrast between the ministry of Paul and these “many” false preachers and teachers. While Paul preached in the fear of God, to please God, and the actual Word of God; these “many” false preachers and teachers preached and taught their own doctrines and things, mainly what the audience wanted to hear, instead of the actual Word of God.

One can argue that while Paul may have been given one kind of ministry and a particular aspect of God’s Word to preach and teach, these people may have been given a different ministry and a different aspect of God’s Word to preach and teach. Just because they did not follow Paul’s style and content of preaching, it does not mean that they were wrong, and not to be followed. God has not left us in any doubt or ambiguity about this. God’s Word shows us its purposes and characteristics, and how it acts when used the way it is meant to be used. The implication is that in whichever preaching and teaching, or in whichever preacher and teacher, these characteristics and purposes mentioned in the Bible are not present, Biblically, that is neither correct, nor to be followed.

 

We can briefly see and understand these characteristics and purposes from three places in the Bible:

• Paul wrote to Timothy about using God’s Word for its God intended purposes, i.e., “for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Of these four God intended purposes for His Word, at least two (reproof and correction), if not three (instruction in righteousness), are purposes that people do not like being applied to them. And most ministers of God are quite reluctant to exercise their responsibility of fulfilling these purposes lest they offend the congregation. Even for the remaining purpose, “for doctrine”, teachings given in God’s Word are often ignored or modified, and decisions of men are taught and implemented as doctrines from God. These are all examples of going beyond God’s Word. If any preacher or preaching does not have these characteristics and purposes, then according to God’s Word, it is not honest and correct either. Nor can it be said that God’s Word should be made relevant according to time, place, and civilization. Since, as we have seen earlier, the Word that we have in our hands, is a form of the Lord Jesus (John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:11-13), and this Word is unchanging, being settled in heaven forever (Psalm 119:89). Therefore, there is no possibility of altering it in any way or making it relevant, else it will tantamount to altering and editing the Lord God Jesus Christ.

• Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2-5, endure afflictions and preach God’s Word, even rebuking and exhorting people if it is so required, in fulfilling the ministry. The agents of Satan, engaged in preaching and teaching wrong doctrines will never do this, since their purpose is to keep people away from the correct and honest teachings, and entangled in the wrong and false doctrines; therefore they will only please them, never say anything that might offend them..

• In the New Testament, God’s Word has been likened to being even sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), that can penetrate deep within a man and is a “discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” of persons. As the penetrating and cutting of the sword into the body is painful, similarly, when the Word of God is presented under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, it penetrates into the heart of man and lays open the sinful thoughts and intents of the heart. This pricking of the heart or of the conscience is a painful and exposing process, that is seen only with the right Word being preached correctly, not otherwise.

 

Now, if someone has to “peddle” the Word of God, as these false preachers and teachers do, they will have to make it sound attractive and pleasing to men, so that the preacher receives a good appreciation, and therefore a good remuneration from the audience. For this, he will have to ‘suitably’ alter the Word of God, so that it no longer serves as a ‘sword’ that cuts deep and lays open the hidden things, nor will he resort to correcting wrongs, rebuking people, nor will such a preacher exhort them for following the truth.
