पवित्र आत्मा और सँसार – 1

नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी, परमेश्वर के द्वारा उन्हें प्रभु के लिए गवाही का जीवन जीने और परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें सौंपी गई सेवकाई के निर्वाह के लिए दिए गए संसाधनों के भण्डारी हैं। जैसा कि प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से प्रतिज्ञा की है, परमेश्वर ने उन्हें अपना पवित्र आत्मा भी प्रदान किया है, कि उनका सहायक, शिक्षक, और मार्गदर्शक हो, उन्हें सिखाए, उनकी जिम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह में उनका मार्गदर्शन करे। उन्हें प्रदान किए गए पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य का उचित और सही उपयोग करने के लिए, मसीही विश्वासियों को पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में सीखना चाहिए, बजाए पवित्र आत्मा को यूँ ही हलके में ले लेने, और अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार पवित्र आत्मा के विषय कुछ भी कहने और करने के। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों को पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में सिखाया है, और प्रभु की ये शिक्षाएँ मुख्यतः यूहन्ना रचित सुसमाचार के अध्याय 14 से 16 में दी गई हैं। हम इन्हीं अध्यायों से विश्वासी के पवित्र आत्मा का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीखते आ रहे हैं। पिछले कुछ समय से हम यूहन्ना 14:17 पर अध्ययन कर रहे हैं, जहाँ पर प्रभु यीशु ने पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में तीन बातें कही हैं। इन तीन में से हमने पहली बात, पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है, और उसके तात्पर्यों तथा व्यावहारिक उपयोग को देखा है। अब हम इस पद में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा कही गई दूसरी बात, तो पवित्र आत्मा और सँसार के बारे में है, “...जिसे संसार ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता, क्योंकि वह न उसे देखता है और न उसे जानता है...” को देखेंगे।

इस वाक्याँश में प्रभु यीशु ने पवित्र आत्मा और सँसार के बारे में तीन बातें कही हैं; पहली, सँसार पवित्र आत्मा को ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता है, और फिर प्रभु उसके दो कारण बताता है – क्योंकि वह न तो उसे देखता है, और न ही उसे जानता है। बाइबल में शब्द ‘सँसार’ केवल इस भौतिक जगत के लिए ही उपयोग नहीं किया गया है, जिस में हम तथा अन्य सभी प्राणी रहते हैं। वरन पवित्र शास्त्र में ‘सँसार’ लोगों की एक श्रेणी भी है, उन लोगों की जो अभी तक प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास में आने के द्वारा परमेश्वर की संतान नहीं बने हैं। क्योंकि वे स्वेच्छा से परमेश्वर की सँतान नहीं बने हैं, इसलिये वे अभी तक परमेश्वर के नहीं संसार ही के लोग हैं; चाहे उनके कर्म, जीवन, धर्म, और धार्मिक रीति-रिवाज़ कुछ भी हों, और इसमें इसाई धर्म तथा उसके सभी उप-समुदाय, दल, और डिनौमिनेशन भी सम्मिलित हैं। यह बात यूहन्ना 1:12-13, “परन्तु जितनों ने उसे ग्रहण किया, उसने उन्हें परमेश्वर के सन्तान होने का अधिकार दिया, अर्थात उन्हें जो उसके नाम पर विश्वास रखते हैं। वे न तो लोहू से, न शरीर की इच्छा से, न मनुष्य की इच्छा से, परन्तु परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं”, में बहुत स्पष्ट कही गई है। दूसरे शब्दों में, परमेश्वर की सँतान, उसके परिवार का भाग, परमेश्वर के लोग होने के लिए व्यक्ति को ‘उसे’ ग्रहण करना पड़ता है, ‘उसके’ नाम पर विश्वास करना पड़ता है; जैसा हम इस से पहले और बाद के पदों के सन्दर्भ से देखते हैं, यह ‘उसे’ और ‘उसके’ प्रभु यीशु मसीह के लिए उपयोग हुआ है।

इसलिए, परमेश्वर की सँतान होने के लिए, हर किसी को प्रभु यीशु को ग्रहण करना और उसमें विश्वास करना अनिवार्य है। यह अपने आप में व्यक्तिगत रीति से एक स्वेच्छा से और जानते-बूझते किए हुए निर्णय का तात्पर्य देता है; यह कोई ऐसी बात नहीं है जो विरासत में प्राप्त होती है या किसी परिवार-विशेष में जन्म लेने, और इसलिए उस परिवार के धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों और रीतियों का पालन करने के कारण मिल जाती है। यही बात यहाँ पद 13 में किसी भी तरह के संदेह की संभावना को हटाते हुए, के बिलकुल स्पष्ट कह दी गई है, “...वे न तो लोहू से, न शरीर की इच्छा से, न मनुष्य की इच्छा से, परन्तु परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं।” दूसरे शब्दों में, परमेश्वर की सँतान होने का मानवीय जन्म से कोई संबंध नहीं है। इस विशेषाधिकार को प्राप्त करने के लिए व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न होना पड़ेगा। प्रभु यीशु ने इसी बात पर यूहन्ना 3:3, 5 में निकुदेमुस से हुए अपने वार्तालाप में भी बल दिया था। निकुदेमुस फरीसियों का एक बहुत उच्च धर्म-शिक्षा प्राप्त धार्मिक अगुवा था, जो प्रभु के पास परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के बारे में सीखने के लिए आया था। उस धार्मिक अगुवे से भी, जो पवित्र शास्त्र को भली-भांति जानता था और व्यवस्था का कड़ाई से पालन करता था, प्रभु का यही कहना था कि उसे भी परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के लिए नया-जन्म लेना ही पड़ेगा, जल और आत्मा से जन्म लेना होगा। अर्थात, परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश किसी भी प्रकार के धर्म या कर्म के द्वारा संभव नहीं है।

जो स्वेच्छा से प्रभु यीशु को ग्रहण करने और उसके नाम में विश्वास करने के द्वारा नया जन्म प्राप्त करते हैं, उन्हें परमेश्वर यह विशेषाधिकार स्वतः ही प्रदान कर देता है कि वे परमेश्वर की सँतान हों। जिस पल वे विश्वास के द्वारा परमेश्वर की संतान बनते हैं, उसी पल परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा भी उन्हें दे दिया जाता है (इफिसियों 1:13-14), जो उनमें आजीवन रहने के लिए आ जाता है (यूहन्ना 14:16)। तो इस प्रकार से हम देखते हैं कि हमारे पास दो प्रकार के लोगों की श्रेणियाँ हैं – एक वे जो परमेश्वर की सँतान, मसीह के संगी-वारिस हैं (रोमियों 8:17), परमेश्वर के लोग हैं; और उन्हें यह विशेषाधिकार उनके किसी कर्मों, धर्म, परिवार के कारण नहीं मिला है। और दूसरी श्रेणी है सँसार के लोग, अर्थात वे जिन्होंने अभी भी व्यक्तिगत रीति से, यीशु को अपना प्रभु और उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण नहीं किया है। ये लोग, जिन्होंने सँसार के लोगों के समान रहने का निर्णय किया है, फिर अपने इस चुनाव के कारण, अन्ततः उसी नियति को भोगेंगे जो सँसार की है – अनन्त विनाश।

जिस पद को हम ले कर चल रहे हैं – यूहन्ना 14:17, उस में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने एक निर्णयात्मक बात कही है, ‘सँसार पवित्र आत्मा को ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता है’ – और पिछले लेखों में हम विस्तार से देख चुके हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा, सत्य का आत्मा, कभी भी किसी भी ऐसी बात के साथ संलग्न नहीं होगा जो बाइबल के अनुसार सत्य नहीं है। क्योंकि सारा सँसार उस दुष्ट के वश में है (1 यूहन्ना 5:19), इसलिए यह असंभव है कि पवित्र आत्मा किसी सँसार के व्यक्ति में निवास करे। पवित्र आत्मा को और उसकी सामर्थ्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए, व्यक्ति को स्वेच्छा से जानते-बूझते हुए सँसार से अलग हो कर परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने का निर्णय लेना होगा, जैसा कि अगले परिच्छेद में समझाया गया है। अगले लेख में हम यूहन्ना 14:17 के इस दूसरे वाक्याँश का अध्ययन ज़ारी रखेंगे, इसके बारे में और आगे देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Holy Spirit & The World – 1

 

The Born-Again Christian Believers are the stewards of their God given provisions; given to them for living a life of witnessing for the Lord and for fulfilling the ministry entrusted to them by God. As the Lord Jesus has promised to His disciples, God has also given to them His Holy Spirit, to be their Helper, Teacher, and Guide, to teach and guide them in fulfilling their responsibilities. To be able to properly utilize the power of the Holy Spirit made available to them, the Believers must learn about the Holy Spirit, instead of taking Him for granted, saying and doing whatever suits their fancy about Him. The Lord Jesus taught about the Holy Spirit to the disciples, and we find the Lord’s teachings about this mainly in John’s gospel, chapters 14 to 16. It is from these chapters that we have been learning about the Believer being a steward of the Holy Spirit. For some time now, we have been looking at John 14:17, where the Lord Jesus has stated three things about the Holy Spirit. Of these three, we have considered the first one, that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, and seen the various implications and practical applications of this statement. We will now look into the second thing mentioned by the Lord Jesus in this verse, about the Holy Spirit and the world, “…whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him…”.

The Lord Jesus has said three things about the Holy Spirit and the world in this phrase; one, the world is unable to receive the Holy Spirit, and then He gives two reasons for it – because it neither sees Him, nor knows Him. In the Bible, the term ‘world’ is not only used for the physical world that we and all creatures live in. But ‘world’ is also used in the Scriptures for the category of people who, are not yet a part of the family of God, because they have not become the children of God by coming to faith in the Lord Jesus. Since they have not voluntarily become the children of God, therefore they are still the people of the world, and not of God; no matter what their works, life, religion and religious practices may be, the Christian ‘religion’ and all its sects, groups, and denominations included. This has been made very clear in John 1:12-13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” In other words, to be a child of God, a part of God’s family and people, one has to receive ‘Him’, to believe in ‘Him’; the ‘Him’, as we see from the context in the preceding and succeeding verses, is the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

So, to be a child of God, everyone has to receive the Lord Jesus and believe in Him. This by itself implies a conscious, voluntary decision made by everyone individually; it is not something that is inherited or passed along by virtue of birth in a particular family, and therefore by observing certain religious rites and rituals practiced by that family. This has also been made unambiguous and very clear in verse 13, “…who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” In other words, human birth has nothing to do with being a child of God. To attain this privilege, one has to be born of God. The Lord Jesus emphasized this in John 3:3, 5, to Nicodemus, the highly learned religious leader of the Pharisees. Nicodemus had come to the Lord to learn from Him about entering the Kingdom of God, and the Lord’s answer even to that religious person, well versed in the Scriptures and strictly following the Law was that even he had to be Born-Again, of the water and the Spirit, to enter the God’s Kingdom, i.e., entering God’s Kingdom cannot be done through any works or religion.

Those who voluntarily are Born-Again by receiving the Lord Jesus and believing in His name, to them God automatically gives the right, the privilege to become the children of God. The moment they become the children of God through faith, God the Holy Spirit is also given to them (Ephesians 1:13-14), to reside in them throughout their lives (John 14:16). So, we see that we have two categories of people – those who are the children of God, the co-heirs with the Lord Jesus (Romans 8:17), the people of God; and they have received this privilege not because of any works, religion, or family; and the world. And the second category is of those who have not yet personally and individually come to accept Jesus as their Lord and savior. These people belonging to the second category, who have chosen to live according to and along with the world, will then also, as per their own choice, suffer the fate of the world – eternal destruction.

In our lead verse – John 14:17, the Lord Jesus has made a categorical statement, ‘the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit’ – and in the preceding articles, we have seen in detail that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, will never in any manner be associated with anything that is not the Biblical truth. Since the whole world is under the influence of the evil one (1 John 5:19), therefore, it is impossible for the Spirit of Truth, God the Holy Spirit to be present in a person of the world. To receive the Holy Spirit and His power, one has to take the conscious voluntary decision to step away from the world, into the Kingdom of God, as is explained in the next paragraph. In the next article we will continue to look further into this second phrase of John 14:17.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, उसे उसके मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई के लिए परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए गए संसाधनों का भण्डारी है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दिये गए इन संसाधनों में से एक परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा भी है, जिसे उसका सहायक, मार्गदर्शक, और शिक्षक होने के लिये दिया गया है। इसीलिए विश्वासी को परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, जो उसे उद्धार होने के पल से ही परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रदान कर दिया जाता है, का भी योग्य भण्डारी होना है, और सीखना है कि अपने जीवन और सेवकाई के लिए उसकी सहायता कैसे ली जाए और उपयोग कैसे किया जाए। भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीखते हुए, वर्तमान में हम यूहन्ना 14:17 के पहले वाक्याँश, “पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है”, पर विचार कर रहे हैं। हम देखते आ रहे हैं कि क्योंकि वह सत्य का आत्मा है, इसलिए कभी भी किसी भी ऐसी बात के साथ जो बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है, वह कदापि सम्मिलित या सहमत नहीं होगा। परमेश्वर के सर्वज्ञानी होने, आदि से अन्त को जानने का पूर्वज्ञान रखने (यशायाह 46:10), और उसके वचन के शाश्वत और अनन्त सत्य, अटल और हमेशा के लिये स्वर्ग में स्थापित होने (भजन 119:89, 160) के गुण के कारण, पवित्र आत्मा ने हमें बाइबल में वह सब कुछ पहले से ही दे दिया है जो जीवन और भक्ति के लिए, हमें किसी भी समय, स्थान, संस्कृति, या सभ्यता में चाहिए (2 पतरस 1:3)। संसार की भौतिक स्थिति और परिस्थितियाँ चाहे कितनी भी बदलें, किन्तु मनुष्य की आत्मिक दशा, आवश्यकता, और अनन्त भविष्य हमेशा एक ही रहता है; और उसी के अनुसार परमेश्वर के प्रावधान भी सदा अपरिवर्तनीय ही रहते हैं। इसलिए वह अब किसी को भी, कभी भी, कोई भी नई शिक्षाएँ अथवा प्रकाशन, अर्थात् वह जो बाइबल में दिया नहीं गया है, नहीं देता है। वरन् जैसा प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने शिष्यों से कहा है, पवित्र आत्मा जो बाइबल में दे दिया गया है, केवल उसे स्मरण करवाता है, उसी का उपयोग करने में सहायता करता है, उसी के बारे में मार्गदर्शन करता है (यूहन्ना 16:13-15)।

हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि लोगों को धोखा देने और गलत मार्ग पर डालने के लिए शैतान ज्योतिर्मय स्वर्गदूत का भेस धारण करता है, और उसके सेवक भी झूठे प्रेरित और धर्म के सेवकों का रूप धारण करते हैं (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15)। इस से सम्बंधित एक और बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य है कि ऐसा कोई नहीं है, परमेश्वर के समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध लोग भी नहीं, जो कभी गलती नहीं करते हैं (याकूब 3:2; 1 यूहन्ना 1:8), और हमने इस के कुछ उदाहरण पिछले लेख में देखे हैं। इसलिए यह मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए अनिवार्य है कि कभी भी किसी भी बात को यूँ ही नहीं मान लें, चाहे उस शिक्षा को देने वाला कोई भी क्यों हो, या वह शिक्षा कितनी भी प्रभावी, तर्कसंगत, रोचक, और आकर्षक क्यों न प्रतीत हो। वरन हमेशा उसे पहले परमेश्वर के वचन से जाँच-परख कर देखें, पुष्टि करें, और तब ही उसे स्वीकार करें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)।

परमेश्वर के लोगों के द्वारा की जाने वाली एक आम गलती है, जिसे वे सामान्यतः परमेश्वर के प्रति भक्ति, आदर, और श्रद्धा के विचार से करते हैं; कि वे बाइबल के शब्दों और वाक्यांशों को उन बातों को कहने और ऐसे अभिप्रायों को देने के लिए उपयोग करने लगते, जैसा बाइबल में उनके बारे में कहीं प्रयोग नहीं किया गया, अभिप्राय नहीं दिया गया, या कहा नहीं गया है। बाइबल के किसी वाक्याँश, शब्द, अथवा तथ्य का अपनी ही इच्छा के अनुसार किसी भी मनमाने तरीके से किसी बात में उपयोग करने से वह बात बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं हो जाती है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह की परीक्षाओं को स्मरण कीजिए जो मत्ती 4:1-11 और लूका 4:1-13 में दर्ज है, शैतान ने परमेश्वर के वचन को गलत रीति से उपयोग किया, उसका अनुचित तात्पर्य दिया, ऐसा जैसा कि वचन में कहीं भी, कभी भी, किसी ने कहा या उपयोग नहीं किया था; और प्रभु ने उसकी बात को वचन से ही काटा और गलत प्रमाणित किया। इसी प्रकार से, मत्ती 7:21-23 में प्रभु के नाम के दुरुपयोग का एक और उदाहरण है, जिसके लिए किसी को कोई श्रेय अथवा लाभ नहीं मिला, वरन घोर हानि उठानी पड़ी।

 

लेकिन लोग बहुधा, यद्यपि श्रद्धा, भक्ति, और भले उद्देश्यों से, किन्तु गलत रीति से बाइबल के शब्दों और तथ्यों का, कई वाक्यांशों और कथनों में उस रीति से उपयोग करते हैं जैसा उनके लिए बाइबल में नहीं दिया गया है, अर्थात उनका दुरुपयोग करते हैं। वे ऐसा परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के प्रयास में, प्रार्थनाओं को और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने के लिए, और जो प्रार्थना वे कर रहे हैं उसका उत्तर उसी रीति से जैसा वे चाहते हैं प्राप्त करने के लिए, करते हैं। इस तरह से दुरुपयोग किये जाने वाले कुछ शब्द और वाक्याँश हैं, प्रभु यीशु का लहू, कलवारी का क्रूस या मसीह का क्रूस, शैतान को बाँधना, किसी पर आशीषों को खोल देना, यह मान कर चलना या लोगों को यह आश्वासन देना कि उनकी प्रार्थनाओं का वही उत्तर दे दिया गया है जैसा उन्होंने माँगा है, आदि। वे अपने इन मनगढ़ंत कथनों को “मन्त्र” के समान उपयोग करते हैं कि परमेश्वर को, जो वे चाहते हैं, वही करने के लिए बाध्य कर सकें। ये, बाइबल पर आधारित, किन्तु बाइबल से असंगत वाक्याँश और कथन उस बात को करने के समान हैं जो अय्यूब के मित्र कह रहे थे, वे परमेश्वर के पक्ष में तो बोल रहे थे किन्तु वैसे नहीं जैसा सही था (अय्यूब 42:7), इसलिए परमेश्वर उन से प्रसन्न नहीं किन्तु क्रोधित हुआ। परमेश्वर को मनुष्यों के द्वारा गढ़े गए शब्दों और वाक्यांशों में बाँधा या बाध्य नहीं किया जा सकता है, चाहे वे शब्द उसके वचन में से लेकर ही क्यों न अनुचित रीति से उपयोग किए जाएँ। न ही परमेश्वर मनुष्यों के मुँह से निकली हुई हर बात को स्वीकार करने और पालन करने के लिये बाध्य है (अय्यूब 35:13), चाहे वह कितनी भी भक्ति, श्रद्धा, और आदर से क्यों न कही गई हो। और न ही परमेश्वर की किसी भी सँतान को, अपनी प्रार्थना अर्पित करने अथवा आराधना चढ़ाने के लिए, बारंबार अपनी पहचान और परमेश्वर के पास आने का आधार बताते हुए, परमेश्वर के पास आने की आवश्यकता है। परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को पहले से ही जानता है, और उसके लोगों को वह जो ‘अधर्म’ है, गलत है, उससे बचे रहने की आवश्यकता है (2 तीमुथियुस 2:19)।

प्रभु यीशु ने अपने पहाड़ी उपदेश में अपने शिष्यों को प्रार्थना का एक साधारण और सीधा सा नमूना दिया है, जो परमेश्वर के सनमुख आने, प्रार्थनाओं के विषयों, और प्रार्थना को अन्त करने के बारे में बताता है (मत्ती 6:7-13); और साथ ही प्रभु ने इस बात पर भी बल दिया कि अन्य-जातियों के समान न बनें, जो व्यर्थ बातें दोहराते रहते हैं। जिन शब्दों और वाक्यांशों को ये लोग अपनी प्रार्थनाओं और आराधना में बारंबार दोहराते हैं वे प्रभु द्वारा दी गई इस नमूने की प्रार्थना में हैं ही नहीं; परन्तु ये लोग फिर भी अपने मन की करते हैं, और समझते हैं कि अपनी इस अनाज्ञाकारिता के द्वारा वे प्रभु को प्रसन्न कर रहे हैं। और कुछ लोग तो अपनी प्रार्थनाओं और आराधना के हर वाक्य बोलने के साथ ही अपने ही गढ़े हुए में कुछ निश्चित शब्दों और वाक्यांशों को भी बोलते ही रहने के आदि हैं; उन्हें सभोपदेशक 5:2 की चेतावनी पर विशेष ध्यान देना चाहिए।

ज़रा विचार कीजिए, परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखी गई किसी भी प्रार्थना अथवा आराधना में क्या वे शब्द और वाक्याँश कहे गए हैं जिन्हें व्यर्थ ही दोहराते रहने के लिए ये लोग इतने प्रतिबद्ध हैं? साथ ही इस तथ्य पर भी ध्यान कीजिए कि जो लोग इन शब्दों और वाक्यांशों का उपयोग नहीं करते हैं, परमेश्वर द्वारा उनकी प्रार्थनाएँ भी सुनी जाती हैं; और परमेश्वर उनके उत्तर भी देता है। और फिर, इन शब्दों और वाक्यांशों का उपयोग करने से हर प्रार्थना तो सुनी नहीं जाती है और न ही ऐसी सभी प्रार्थनाओं का वांछित उत्तर मिल जाता है। क्या इन शब्दों और वाक्यांशों के उपयोग के बावजूद प्रार्थनाएँ अनुत्तरित नहीं रहती हैं? तो फिर बाइबल के शब्दों और वाक्यांशों को बाइबल के बाहर तात्पर्य के साथ, एक “मन्त्र” के समान उपयोग करने का क्या औचित्य अथवा उपयोगिता है?

परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है। वह कभी भी उस के साथ किसी भी रीति से संलग्न नहीं होगा जो बाइबल के अनुसार सही और सत्य नहीं है, चाहे वह असत्य बाइबल ही के किसी तथ्य पर आधारित क्यों न हो। इसलिए, उसकी सामर्थ्य कभी भी किसी भी भक्तिपूर्ण प्रतीत होने वाली किन्तु मनगढ़ंत बात के साथ कार्य नहीं करेगी। पवित्र आत्मा का बाइबल से बाहर रीति से दुरुपयोग करने का प्रयास, परमेश्वर की आशीषों का अयोग्य भण्डारी होना है।

अगले लेख से हम यूहन्ना 14:17 के दूसरी वाक्याँश, अर्थात, “सँसार उसे न तो ग्रहण कर सकता है, न देख सकता है, और न जान सकता है।” 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Holy Spirit – The Spirit of Truth – 6

 

Every Born-Again Christian Believer is a steward of his God given provisions, given to him for his Christian life and Ministry. One of these God given provisions is God the Holy Spirit, who has been given to be his Helper, Guide, and Teacher. Therefore, the Believer is to be a worthy steward of God the Holy Spirit, who is given to him by God at the moment of his salvation, and has to learn to utilize His help for his life and ministry. In learning about this stewardship, presently we are considering the first phrase from John 14:17, that “the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth.” and therefore, cannot in any manner be associated with anything that is not a Biblical truth. God is omniscient, has the foreknowledge of the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), and since His Word is eternal and true forever, is immutable and established in heaven forever (Psalm 119:89, 160). Therefore, the Holy Spirit has already given to us in the Bible everything we need for life and godliness at any time, place, civilization, or culture (2 Peter 1:3). No matter how much the temporal state and circumstances of the world may change, but the spiritual condition, spiritual necessities, and eternal destiny of the spirit will remain the same; and accordingly, God’s provisions for this also remain unchanging. Therefore, He no longer gives any fresh or new teachings and revelations, i.e., those which have not already been given in the Bible, to anyone. Rather, as the Lord Jesus has said to His disciples, the Holy Spirit only reminds about, helps with, and guides in utilizing what has already been given in the Bible (John 16:13-15).

 

We have seen in the last article that to deceive and mislead the people, Satan turns himself into an angel of light, and his ministers also present themselves as apostles of the Lord and ministers of righteousness (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Another very important related fact is that there is no one, not even the committed people of God who do not make mistakes (James 3:2; 1 John 1:8), and we have seen some examples of this in the last article. Therefore, it is imperative for the Christian Believers to not assume anything, no matter who it is who is giving the teaching, or how impressive, logical, interesting, and attractive it may seem; but to always cross-check and verify every teaching from God’s Word, and only then accept it (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21).

One common error committed by God’s people, usually out of reverence and godliness, is to use Biblical facts, words, and phrases, to say or to imply things that have not been said, implied, or ever used in the Bible. Simply using a Biblical phrase, word, or fact, in any manner, according to one’s own fancy, does not make it Biblically true. Remember, in the temptations of the Lord Jesus, given in Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13, the devil misused and misquoted God's Word in a manner that was neither intended, nor was similarly used or applied in God's Word, anywhere by anyone; and the Lord proved him wrong using God’s Word. Similarly, Matthew 7:21-23 is another example of misusing Lord's name, but not getting any credit for it. Doing this with God's Word, this misuse, neither made the assumptions the truth, nor gave any one any benefit; rather caused grave harm.

But people often, though reverentially, piously, and with good intentions, misuse Biblical terms and facts in many phrases and statements in a manner that is not given in the Bible about them. They do this to try and please God, to seemingly make prayers more effective, and make sure that their prayers are fulfilled just the way they are being asked for. Some commonly misused terms and phrases are the blood of the Lord Jesus, the Cross of Calvary or the Cross of Christ, binding Satan, opening blessings upon others, taking for granted or assuring people that their prayers have been answered by God in just the manner they have asked them, etc. They use these, their contrived statements, like a chant trying to compel God to do what they are asking Him to do. These Bible based, but unbiblically used phrases and statements are like what Job's friends were doing, speaking in favour of God but unlike what the truth actually was (Job 42:7), which angered God instead of pleasing Him. God cannot be bound and coerced by man-made words and phrases, even if they have been taken from His Word, but are being used inappropriately. Neither is God under any compulsion to accept and obey everything man may say (Job 35:13), no matter how piously, reverentially, and honorably it may have been said. Nor does any child of God need to repeatedly identify himself to God and state the basis of his approaching God, every time he comes to Him for prayer or worship, since God already knows those who are His, and His people are to stop persisting in doing what is wrong (2 Timothy 2:19).

In His Sermon on the Mount, the Lord Jesus gave His disciples a simple, straightforward pattern of prayer, showing how to approach God and begin their prayers, what the contents of their prayers should be about, and then how to close the prayer (Matthew 6:7-13); and the Lord emphasized not to be like the heathens, using vain repetitions. The phrases and words that these people keep repeating over and over again in their prayers or worship to God, they are nowhere to be found in this model Lord’s prayer; and yet, they keep doing according to their own liking, believing that they are pleasing God by disobeying Him in this manner. Some are also habituated to vainly repeating a few words and phrases in every sentence of their prayer or worship that they speak; these people should pay particular attention to Ecclesiastes 5:2.

 

Think it over, do any of the prayers, or any worship, given in God’s Word, ever contain any of the words and phrases that some people are so committed to repeating unnecessarily? Moreover, consider the fact that the prayers of those who do not use these phrases are also heard and answered by God, while many prayers of those habituated to use these vain unBiblical phrases go unanswered. So, what is the rational or necessity of using these Biblical words and phrases in an unBiblical manner, like a chant to get things done from God?

God the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He will never be associated with anything that is not the truth according to the Bible, even though that untruth may be based on a Biblical fact. Therefore, His power will never be available or applicable to such seemingly pious but presumptive and contrived phrases and words. To try to misuse the Holy Spirit in any unBiblical way, is to be poor Stewards of God's blessings.

From the next article we will start considering the second phrase of John 14:17, i.e., ‘World cannot receive Him, see Him, or know Him.’

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

हम पिछले लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि प्रत्येक वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को पवित्र आत्मा, उसे उद्धार पाने के पल से ही, परमेश्वर द्वारा दे दिया जाता है, कि उसका सहायक, शिक्षक और मार्गदर्शक हो। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी पवित्र आत्मा का मन्दिर है; और अपने मसीही जीवन तथा सेवकाई को भली-भाँति निभाने के लिये, उसे पवित्र आत्मा का योग्य और भला भण्डारी भी होना है। हम यूहन्ना 14:17 से परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के सत्य का आत्मा होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा बाइबल की सभी पुस्तकों का मूल लेखक है, अर्थात, उसी की प्रेरणा और अगुवाई में लोगों ने भिन्न समयों में उन पुस्तकों को लिखा, जिन्हें फिर संकलित कर के बाइबल के रूप में रखा गया है। इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा कभी भी उसके अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहीं कहेगा जो उसने पहले से ही बाइबल में लिखवा कर दे दिया है। साथ ही हमने 2 पतरस 1:3 से भी देखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी को जीवन और भक्ति के लिए जो कुछ भी चाहिए वह पहले से ही उसे लिखित वचन, अर्थात, बाइबल में उपलब्ध करवा दिया गया है। परमेश्वर ने यह अपने सर्वज्ञानी होने और सभी बातों का पूर्व-ज्ञान रखने के अनुसार सभी समयों, स्थानों, संस्कृतियों, और सभ्यताओं के लिये पहले से ही दे दिया है। इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा को किसी भी विश्वासी को कोई भी नई शिक्षा, प्रकाशन, अथवा दर्शन देने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। प्रभु यीशु ने भी यही बात कही है, कि पवित्र आत्मा उसके शिष्यों को प्रभु के शब्दों के बारे में स्मरण करवाएगा, उनका मार्गदर्शन करेगा; लेकिन वह अपनी ओर से कोई नई बात नहीं कहेगा, वरन जो कह दिया गया है उसे ही बताएगा (यूहन्ना 16:13-15)।

इस के दो बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तात्पर्य हैं जो हमें गलत दावों और झूठी शिक्षाओं को पहचानने तथा सही और गलत में भिन्नता करने में सहायता करते हैं। पहला है कि जो कोई भी बाइबल से बाहर की किसी शिक्षा को पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिए गए प्रकाशन या दर्शन से प्राप्त करने की बात करता है, वह सच नहीं बोल रहा है; चाहे उसका आत्मिक स्तर, लोकप्रियता, और मसीहियत में स्थान कुछ भी हो। दूसरा, ऐसी कोई भी बात जो सिखाई, प्रचार की जा रही, या व्यवहार में लाई जा रही है, यदि वह लेख में बाइबल से बाहर की है, अर्थात, पहले से ही बाइबल में नहीं दी गई है, तो वह न तो बाइबल के अनुसार सत्य है और न ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से है। और साथ ही, यदि उस बात के बताए या सिखाए जा रहे किसी अभिप्राय या उस की व्याख्या का बाइबल में कहीं पर भी कोई उपयोग नहीं हुआ है, तो फिर वह बात या वह अभिप्राय या वह व्याख्या, बाइबल के अनुसार सत्य और न ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से कदापि नहीं हो सकती है। एक बार फिर, उसे सिखाने, प्रचार करने, और करने के लिए कहने वाले व्यक्ति का आत्मिक स्तर, लोकप्रियता, और मसीहियत में स्थान चाहे कुछ भी हो।

इस सन्दर्भ में, पिछले लेख में हम इस बिंदु पर आ कर रुके थे कि परमेश्वर के लोग भी शैतान द्वारा भरमाए और गलत मार्ग पर डाल दिए जाते हैं कि ऐसी गलत बातों का, जो न तो सही हैं, और न ही पवित्र आत्मा से हैं, का प्रचार करें, सिखाएं, और करें। सामान्यतः यह तब होता है जब परमेश्वर के लोग, उसके प्रति अपने भक्ति और आदर की त्रुटिपूर्ण अभिव्यक्ति के रूप में, बाइबल के तथ्यों और बातों को ऐसी रीति से कहने और उपयोग करने लगते हैं, जैसा उनके विषय में बाइबल में नहीं कहा गया है। दूसरे शब्दों में, वे बातें, शब्द, और तथ्य बाइबल से तो हैं, किन्तु उनका उपयोग और उनके साथ व्यवहार बाइबल से बाहर का है, अर्थात् उन्हें बाइबल में कहीं भी, कभी भी उस अर्थ और उस तरह से प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है, जिस से यह वास्तविक नहीं वरन एक मनगढ़ंत बात हो जाती है। इसीलिए इस बात को बल देकर कहा गया था कि बाइबल की शिक्षा यही है कि जो भी प्रचार किया जा रहा है या सिखाया जा रहा, प्रत्येक मसीही को पहले उसे बाइबल से जांच-परख कर देखना है, और उसकी पुष्टि होने बाद ही उसे स्वीकार करना है (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। 

आज हम कुछ भक्त परमेश्वर के लोगों के उदहारण देखेंगे जिन्होंने गलत कहा या किया, तथा औरों को भी गलतियों में डाला, या औरों को भी उनकी मनगढ़ंत गलतियों का पालन करने के कारण गंभीर परिणाम भुगतने पड़े।

• पतरस, यद्यपि उसने पुनरुत्थान हुए प्रभु को देखा था, फिर भी अधीर हो गया, और वापस मछली मारने को जाने का निर्णय किया, और छः अन्य शिष्यों ने भी उसी के समान करने का निर्णय किया। प्रभु को उन्हें वापस उनकी उस बुलाहट और सेवकाई में लौटाने के लिए जिसके लिये उन्हें चुना था, एक हल्की सी डाँट का उपयोग करना पड़ा (यूहन्ना 21:1-19)। 

• पतरस, जब यरूशलेम से कुछ यहूदी उसके पास आए, तब अन्य-जातियों के मध्य दोगलेपन को दिखाने लगा। पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस में होकर उसके इस व्यवहार के लिए उसे अच्छे से डाँटा (गलातियों 2:11-14)।

• पौलुस, एक शिक्षित और प्रशिक्षित भक्त फरीसी था, जो परमेश्वर के लिए बहुत जलन रखता था, अपने परिवर्तित होने से पहले, अपने प्रशिक्षण और पवित्र शास्त्र के ज्ञान के आधार पर यही समझता था कि मसीहियों को सताने के द्वारा वह परमेश्वर की सेवा कर रहा है, और बहुत से अन्य लोग उसके साथ इस में संलग्न थे, जब तक कि प्रभु ने वास्तविकता के प्रति उसकी आँखें नहीं खोल दीं (प्रेरितों 22:3-5; 26:9-11)।

• पौलुस, यूहन्ना मरकुस से निराश होने के कारण उसे फिर से सेवकाई के लिए उपयोग नहीं करना चाहता था। पौलुस अपनी इस ज़िद पर इतना दृढ़ था कि उसने, बजाए मरकुस को स्वीकार करने के, अपने मित्र और सहकर्मी बरनबास से अलग होना चुन लिया (प्रेरितों:15:36-41)। लेकिन बाद में, मरकुस के प्रति उसका व्यवहार बदल गया, उसने उसे स्वीकार किया और कहा कि सेवकाई में वह उसके बहुत काम का था (प्रेरितों 4:11)।

• शैतान ने दाऊद को उकसाया कि इस्राएल की जनगणना करे। यद्यपि उसके सेनापति योआब ने उसे इससे हटाना चाहा, किन्तु दाऊद नहीं माना। परमेश्वर इस से बहुत क्रुद्ध हुआ और इस्राएल को इसका दण्ड भुगतना पड़ा (1 इतिहास 21:1, 3-4, 7)।

• सुलैमान, जो सबसे बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति था, जिसे परमेश्वर ने दो बार दर्शन दिए थे, अपने जीवन के बाद के समय में मूर्ति-पूजा में पड़ गया, और परमेश्वर की इच्छा के विरुद्ध किए गए अन्य-जातियों में विवाहों की अपनी पत्नियों के लिए, उनके देवी-देवताओं के लिए मूर्तियाँ और मंदिर बनवाए। परिणामस्वरूप परमेश्वर उस से बहुत क्रोधित हुआ, और उसके वंशजों से राज्य को लेकर दो में विभाजित कर दिया (1 राजाओं 11:1-13)।

इस प्रकार हम परमेश्वर के वचन से देखते हैं कि न केवल भक्त लोग, वरन परमेश्वर के लोग भी शैतान द्वारा बहकाए जा सकते हैं, गंभीर गलतियाँ कर सकते हैं, तथा औरों को भी गलतियों में डाल सकते हैं, उन पर भी परमेश्वर से गंभीर ताड़ना को ला सकते हैं। हम इसके बारे में अगले लेख में और आगे देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Holy Spirit – The Spirit of Truth – 5

 

We have seen in the previous article that every truly Born-Again Christian Believer, from the moment of his being saved, receives the Holy Spirit from God, to be the Believers Helper, Teacher, and Guide. Every Believer is the Temple of the Holy Spirit; and to worthily fulfill his ministry and to live the Christian life, the Christian Believer must be a worthy steward of the Holy Spirit. We are learning from John 14:17, about God the Holy Spirit being the Spirit of Truth. In the last article we have seen that the Holy Spirit is the actual author of all the books of the Bible, i.e., He is the one who inspired and motivated people to write the various books over time, which were then compiled to give us the Bible. Therefore, the Holy Spirit will never go over and above what He has already got written in the Bible. Moreover, we have also seen from 2 Peter 1:3 that all that a Christian Believer will ever need for his life and for godliness, has already been provided to him in the written Word, i.e., the Bible, by God through His foreknowledge and foresight, for all times, places, culture and civilizations. So, there is no need for the Holy Spirit to give any new teachings, revelations, or visions to any Believer about anything. The Lord Jesus too has said this, that the Holy Spirit will remind His disciples about the Lord’s Words, guide them; but He will not say anything new on His own authority, but will only say what has been said (John 16:13-15). 

This has two very important implications that help us in recognizing false claims and wrong teachings, and discerning between right and wrong. The first is that anyone who claims to have received some new extra-Biblical teachings through revelations or visions from the Holy Spirit, cannot be speaking the truth; irrespective of his spiritual status, popularity, and stature in Christianity. Secondly, anything preached, taught, practiced by anyone that is extra-Biblical, i.e., has not already been given in the Bible as text, then neither is it Biblically true, nor is it from God the Holy Spirit. Also, if any implication or interpretation of that thing that is being told or taught has not been used in that manner in the Bible, then too that interpretation or implication, cannot be Biblically true, or from God the Holy Spirit. Once again, irrespective of the spiritual status, popularity, and stature in Christianity of the preacher or teacher, preaching or teaching it.

 

In this context, we had stopped in the last article at the point that even God’s people are deceived and misled by Satan to say, preach, teach, and do things that are not correct or from the Holy Spirit. This usually happens when God’s people as an erroneous expression of their reverence, and of godliness, misuse Biblical terms and facts in a manner that has not been stated about them in the Bible. In other words, the words, terms, and facts are Biblical, but their application and utilization is extra-Biblical, i.e., they have never been used in the Bible in that manner or with that sense, making it something contrived, and not factual. Hence it has been emphasized that whatever is being preached and taught, the Biblical teaching is for every Christian to first examine and verify it from God’s Word the Bible, and only then accept it, if it is Biblically found to be true (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21).

 

Today we will see some examples of godly people saying and doing wrong things, and misleading others into errors, or of others having to suffer the serious consequences of their presumptive behavior.

• Peter, though having seen the resurrected Lord, became impatient, and decided to go back to fishing, and six other disciples decided to follow him. The Lord had to give them a gentle rebuke while restoring them back into the calling and ministry He had chosen them for (John 21:1-19).

• Peter, amongst the Gentiles, behaved hypocritically, when some Jews came to him from Jerusalem; and with him some others also fell into the same hypocrisy. The Holy Spirit through Paul gave them a sharp rebuke for this (Galatians 2:11-14).

• Paul, a learned and godly Pharisee, and very zealous for God, before his conversion, through his training and scriptural knowledge thought he was serving God by persecuting the Christians, and many others were involved with him, till the Lord opened his eyes to the actual truth (Acts 22:3-5; 26:9-11).

• Paul, because of his disappointment about John Mark, refused to consider him again for being with him for ministry. Paul was so adamant that he chose to separate from his friend and colleague Barnabas, rather than to accept Mark (Acts 15:36-41). But later, he reconciled with John Mark, and called him one who was useful for him in ministry (2 Timothy 4:11).

• David was incited by Satan to take a census of Israel. Though his commander Joab tried to dissuade him, but David did not listen. This greatly displeased God and He struck Israel for it (1 Chronicles 21:1, 3-4, 7).

• Solomon, the wisest man ever, to whom God had appeared twice, in his later years fell into idolatry, built temples for gods and goddesses of the Gentile women he had married against God’s Word. Consequently, God was angry with him and tore away the Kingdom from his posterity (1 Kings 11:1-13).

So, we see from God’s Word that not just godly people, even God’s people, can be misled by Satan, and can commit gross errors, often in their devotion and godliness, thinking that they are being reverential; but actually, they are being used by Satan to misuse God’s Word and teach their errors to others, leading others into wrong things, even severe chastisement from God. We will continue with this in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
