इस श्रृंखला, व्यवस्था और उद्धार, विषय का, परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के आधार पर अध्ययन को हमने तीन प्रश्नों के अनुसार करना आरम्भ किया था। ये तीन प्रश्न हैं:  पहला, यदि उद्धार व्यवस्था के पालन से नहीं है, तो फिर पुराने और नए नियम में व्यवस्था द्वारा जीवन मिलने की बात क्यों कही गई? दूसरा, व्यवस्था के दिए जाने का उद्देश्य क्या था? और तीसरा प्रश्न है कि आज हम मसीही विश्वासियों, प्रभु के लोगों के लिए, क्या व्यवस्था की कोई उपयोगिता अथवा भूमिका है? पिछले लेखों में हम व्यवस्था और व्यवहारिक जीवन से संबंधित इन तीन में से दो प्रश्नों - व्यवस्था द्वारा जीवन दिए जाने, और व्यवस्था के दिए जाने के उद्देश्य को देख चुके हैं। आज हम तीसरे प्रश्न, एक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में व्यवस्था की उपयोगिता और भूमिका के बारे में देखेंगे।

वास्तव में व्यवस्था क्या है और उसके पालन से क्या अभिप्राय है, इसे हमने मत्ती 22:35-40 में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा एक व्यवस्थापक से हुई बातचीत से समझा था। हमने देखा था कि व्यवस्था कोई रीति-रिवाज़ों, पर्वों, भेंट-बलिदानों आदि का निर्वाह नहीं है। व्यवस्था परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में आने और बने रहने के लिए परमेश्वर के निर्देश हैं। और इन सम्बन्धों के निर्वाह के लिये परमेश्वर के इन निर्देशों का पालन करना ही व्यवस्था का पालन करना है। जब परमेश्वर के साथ मनुष्य का सम्बन्ध सही हो जाता है, तो यह स्वतः ही उसके बदले हुए जीवन और अन्य मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में रहने के द्वारा दिखने और प्रमाणित होने लगता है।

 

प्रभु और व्यवस्थापक के मध्य हुई इसी बातचीत को हम आज के इस तीसरे प्रश्न के संदर्भ में लूका 10:25-28 से लेंगे, विशेषकर लूका 10:28 से, जहाँ प्रभु यीशु ने इस चर्चा के निष्कर्ष में उस व्यवस्थापक से कहा, “उसने [प्रभु यीशु ने] उस से कहा, तू ने ठीक उत्तर दिया है, यही कर: तो तू जीवित रहेगा” (लूका 10:28)। यह ध्यान देने योग्य बात है कि प्रभु यीशु ने उससे यह नहीं कहा कि “अब से तुझे यह सब करने की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ेगी। बस मुझ पर विश्वास कर लेना, और यह सब तेरे लिए स्वतः ही पूरा हो जाएगा।” वरन प्रभु ने जोर देकर, बात के निष्कर्ष में उससे कहा, “यही कर: तो तू जीवित रहेगा”, यानि कि, व्यवस्था की सही समझ और परिभाषा के पालन को अनिवार्य किया, और इसके बाद कभी भी अपनी कही इस बात को बदला नहीं। साथ ही एक बार फिर यह ध्यान में रखने की बात है कि प्रभु द्वारा उससे यही करने को कहना, उसके द्वारा कोई रीति-रिवाज़ों, पर्वों, भेंट-बलिदानों आदि का निर्वाह करने को कहना नहीं था। वरन, परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में आना, और बने रहने को पूरा करने की बात थी, जैसा कि इसके आगे के नेक सामरी के दृष्टांत (लूका 10:29-37) से भी प्रकट है।

 

    वर्तमान के, परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह के समय में, विश्वास द्वारा प्रभु से उद्धार को दान के रूप में प्राप्त करने के समय में, लोगों में इस तात्पर्य को लेकर एक असमंजस आ सकता है कि व्यवस्था का पालन करना तो फिर से कर्मों से धर्मी बनने की बात हो रही है, न कि विश्वास से धर्मी ठहरने की। किन्तु ऐसा नहीं है। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि प्रभु यीशु ने व्यवस्था को पूरा कर के हमारे सामने से उसे हटा दिया है; अब मसीही विश्वासियों को उसके पालन करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं रही है, अब मसीह यीशु ही हमारा उद्धार और जीवन है (कुलुस्सियों 2:13-17)। किन्तु साथ ही यहाँ पद 14 और पद 16 पर ध्यान कीजिए, “और विधियों का वह लेख जो हमारे नाम पर और हमारे विरोध में था मिटा डाला; और उसको क्रूस पर कीलों से जड़ कर सामने से हटा दिया है” (कुलुस्सियों 2:14); “इसलिये खाने पीने या पर्व या नए चान्‍द, या सब्‍तों के विषय में तुम्हारा कोई फैसला न करे” (कुलुस्सियों 2:16)। यहाँ प्रयोग किए गए शब्दों पर ध्यान कीजिए और विचार कीजिए; पद 14 के अनुसार, जो हमारे विरोध में था वह “विधियों का लेख” था, जिसे पद 16 में “खाने पीने या पर्व या नए चान्‍द, या सब्‍तों” आदि की बातें कहा गया है, “उसको क्रूस पर कीलों से जड़ कर सामने से हटा दिया है”। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि ये सभी बातें प्रभु यीशु मसीह के चरित्र, जीवन, और समस्त मानव-जाति के उद्धार के लिए किए गए उनके कार्य के विभिन्न पहलुओं के प्ररूप और प्रतीक हैं। प्रभु यीशु ने इन सभी को अपनी देह में हमारे लिए पूरा कर के, अपने बलिदान और पुनरुत्थान के द्वारा इनके निर्वाह को हमारे सामने से हटा दिया है। प्रभु ने “व्यवस्था” को, अर्थात परमेश्वर के और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में आने और बने रहने को नहीं हटाया है, जो कि प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा सम्भव होता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, व्यवस्था अभी भी लागू है, बदली नहीं है; उसके निर्वाह की विधि अब प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता हो गई है।

 

इस बात को हम अगले लेख में भी देखेंगे। यदि आप अपने आप को किसी भी प्रकार की “व्यवस्था” - वह चाहे परमेश्वर की हो, या आपके धर्म, मत, समुदाय, या डिनॉमिनेशन की हो - के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी बनाने के, और अपने शरीर के कार्यों के द्वारा अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के प्रयासों में लगे हैं; तो ध्यान देकर समझ लीजिए कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट बताता है कि व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन, परमेश्वर के दिए हुए पश्चाताप और समर्पण करने के मार्ग का पालन करने के द्वारा ही आप परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और उसे स्वीकार्य बन सकते हैं। अभी समय और अवसर रहते सही मार्ग अपना लें, और व्यर्थ तथा निष्फल मार्ग को छोड़ दें।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Law & Living the Christian Faith – 1

 

At the beginning of this series on the Law and Salvation, we started out with three questions on which we would Biblically study this topic. These three questions are:  First, if salvation is not from the observance of the Law, then why do the Old and New Testaments speak of having life through the law? Second, why was the Law given? And the Third question is, does the Law have any utility or role, for us Christians, the people of the Lord, today? In the previous articles, we have seen the first two out of the three questions; the questions regarding the giving of life by the Law, and regarding the purpose behind giving of the Law. Today we'll look at the third question, the utility and role of the Law in the life of a Christian Believer.

 

We had understood from the Lord Jesus' conversation with a Scribe in Matthew 22:35-40 what the term “the Law” actually stands for, and what it means to follow the Law. We had seen that the Law is not the fulfilling of any rituals, feasts, offerings, sacrifices, etc. Rather, the Law are God's instructions to come into and live in the right relationship with God and with fellow humans; i.e., the living by and obeying God’s instructions for fulfilling these relationships is the observance of the Law. When man comes into a correct relationship with God, he automatically begins to demonstrate and affirm it by his changed life, and by living in the right relationship with other human beings too.

 

We'll take this same conversation between the Lord and the Scribe in the context of considering our third question today, but from Luke 10:25-28, especially Luke 10:28, where the Lord Jesus concluded this discussion by saying to the Scribe, "And He [The Lord Jesus] said to him, ‘You have answered rightly; do this and you will live’" (Luke 10:28). It is of great importance and certainly worth noting that the Lord Jesus did not say to him that "from now on you will no longer need to do all this. Just believe in me, and it will all be done automatically for you." But, at the conclusion of the talk, the Lord insisted and said to him, "Do this: then you will live", i.e., thereby, He made fulfilling the correct understanding and interpretation of the Law mandatory, and never changed His words after that. Once again, it is to be noted that the Lord’s asking him to do “this” was not asking him to fulfill the performing of any rituals, feasts, offerings, sacrifices etc. Rather, He was asking him to come into, and stay in the right relationship with, God and humans; as is evidenced by the parable of the Good Samaritan in following verses (Luke 10:29-37).

In the present times, i.e., the time of God's grace, the time of receiving salvation from the Lord as a gift, by faith, people may be confused about understanding the application of this teaching, of keeping the Law; misinterpreting it as again going towards becoming righteous by works. But it is not so. There is no doubt, and no going back on the fact that the Lord Jesus has fulfilled the law and removed it from us; Christian Believers in the Lord Jesus are no longer required to observe these requirements of the Law, Christ Jesus and He alone is our salvation and life (Colossians 2:13-17). But also note here verse 14 and verse 16, “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14); "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths" (Colossians 2:16). Pay attention and consider the words used here; According to verse 14, what was against us was the “handwriting of requirements” which in verse 16 is referred to as “food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths” etc. It is these that the Lord Jesus “has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” In the previous article we saw that all of these things are types and symbols of different aspects of the character, life, and work of the Lord Jesus Christ done for the salvation of all mankind. The Lord Jesus, having lived by and fulfilled all of these works for us in His body, has removed their requirement for us through His sacrifice and resurrection. The Lord has not removed the "Law," i.e., our coming into and living in a proper relationship with God and fellow human beings, which happens by coming into faith in the Lord Jesus. In other words, the Law is still in place and applicable, has not changed; what has changed is that it is now fulfilled through coming into faith in the Lord Jesus and being obedient to Him.

In the next article we will look at some other things about this. If you consider yourself righteous and acceptable to God by observance of any kind of “law”—whether of God, or of your religion, creed, community, or denomination—and by the actions of your flesh; then, pay heed and understand that God's Word clearly states that you can become righteous and acceptable to God, not by keeping the requirements of the Law, but by following God's path of repentance and submission. Now, while you have the time and opportunity, take the right step, and leave the useless and fruitless path that you may have been walking upon till now.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

व्यवस्था की उपयोगिता के बारे में देखते हुए, पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर द्वारा, जगत के उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु मसीह के बारे में, अब्राहम को दी गई प्रतिज्ञा कि उसके वंश में होकर सारा संसार आशीष पाएगा (उत्पत्ति 12:1-3;  गलातियों 3:16-18), के पूरा होने तक, अर्थात प्रभु के आने तक, व्यवस्था, परमेश्वर के लोगों को उनके पाप की पहचान कराते रहने और उस आने वाले उद्धारकर्ता के बारे में शिक्षा देते रहने के लिए दी गई थी। अब, जब प्रभु यीशु ने आकर उद्धार के कार्य को पूरा कर दिया है, तो स्वतः ही व्यवस्था की सभी बातें पूरी होकर प्रभु के लोगों के द्वारा पालन किये जाने से हटा ली गईं, और उस “शिक्षक” अर्थात व्यवस्था की उनके लिए आवश्यकता नहीं रही, “परन्तु जब विश्वास आ चुका, तो हम अब शिक्षक के आधीन न रहे” (गलातियों 3:25)। उस शिक्षक, व्यवस्था, ने प्रभु के लोगों को पाप, उसके परिणाम, और परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता के मानकों के बारे में सिखा कर, परमेश्वर की उस धार्मिकता के सिद्ध स्वरूप प्रभु यीशु मसीह के हाथों में सौंप दिया है। अब जो कोई भी परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता को प्रभु यीशु मसीह में स्वेच्छा से लाए गए विश्वास के द्वारा, उपहार के समान, प्रभु के हाथों से स्वीकार करता है, वह परमेश्वर की संतान और उसका वारिस बन जाता है, “क्योंकि तुम सब उस विश्वास करने के द्वारा जो मसीह यीशु पर है, परमेश्वर की सन्तान हो” (गलातियों 3:26), और फिर प्रभु में आ जाने के बाद परस्पर कोई भिन्नता नहीं रह जाती है; सभी, विश्वास के द्वारा, परमेश्वर के एक ही परिवार के सदस्य हो जाते हैं “अब न कोई यहूदी रहा और न यूनानी; न कोई दास, न स्वतंत्र; न कोई नर, न नारी; क्योंकि तुम सब मसीह यीशु में एक हो” (गलातियों 3:28)।

इस प्रकार, हम गलातियों 3 अध्याय से समझते हैं कि व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य था प्रतिज्ञा किए हुए उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु के आने तक, प्रभु के लोगों को एक शिक्षक के समान संभाले रखना। उन्हें पाप और उसके परिणामों के प्रति सचेत रखना, और कर्मों के द्वारा नहीं वरन केवल विश्वास के द्वारा ही पाप का निवारण संभव होना सिखाना। क्योंकि लोगों ने व्यवस्था को उसकी सही परिभाषा के अनुसार नहीं, वरन पर्वों तथा रीतियों का मनाना, और भेंट और बलिदानों को चढ़ाना समझ लिया, इसलिए वे व्यवस्था के मूल उद्देश्य को भुलाकर, एक औपचारिकता के समान उसके पूरा करने के असंभव कार्य में भटक गए। वे शैतान द्वारा, व्यवस्था के वास्तविक उद्देश्य, पाप की पहचान करवाना और उद्धार तथा उद्धारकर्ता के बारे में सिखाना, से भटका दिये गये; और व्यवस्था से सीखने की बजाए, व्यवस्था के द्वारा धर्मी ठहरने के प्रयास करने की गलती में उलझा दिए गए।

आज भी लोग यही गलती करने में लगे हुए हैं। आज भी वो समझते हैं कि किसी धर्म और परिवार विशेष में जन्म लेने के कारण, उनके धर्म और धार्मिक स्थल, उनके मत, समुदाय, परिवार आदि की रीतियों के निर्वाह के द्वारा, कुछ पर्वों, रीतियों, और अनुष्ठानों को पूरा कर लेने, और ईसाइयों या मसीहियों में, बपतिस्मा, प्रभु-भोज, आदि के निर्वाह के कारण, परमेश्वर उन्हें अपनी संतान बनाने, उन्हें स्वर्ग में अपने साथ रखने को स्वीकार करने के लिए बाध्य हो जाएगा। सभी अपनी ही बनाई हुई व्यवस्था की बातों के रीति के समान निर्वाह में उलझ कर पश्चाताप और विश्वास द्वारा परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता को प्राप्त करने की सच्चाई को मानने से भटके हुए हैं। कोई इस बात पर ज़रा सी भी गंभीरता से विचार नहीं करता है कि जब परमेश्वर के द्वारा दी गई व्यवस्था लोगों को उद्धार नहीं दे सकी, तो फिर मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई, और सिखाई जाने वाली विभिन्न व्यवस्थाएं यह कैसे करने पाएंगी?

 

उद्धार, पापों की क्षमा, परमेश्वर की संतान बनना, और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होकर उसके राज्य में स्थान पाना किसी भी व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन केवल पापों से पश्चाताप और प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार करने, उसे समर्पित हो जाने के द्वारा है।

 

अगले लेख में हम हमारे तीसरे प्रश्न, अर्थात, मसीही विश्वासियों के जीवनों में व्यवस्था की भूमिका के बारे में देखेंगे। अभी के लिए, यदि आप अपने आप को किसी भी प्रकार की “व्यवस्था” - वह चाहे परमेश्वर की हो, या आपके धर्म, मत, समुदाय, या डिनॉमिनेशन की हो - के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी बनाने के, और अपने शरीर के कार्यों के द्वारा अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के प्रयासों में लगे हैं; तो ध्यान देकर समझ लीजिए कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट बताता है कि व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन, परमेश्वर के दिए हुए पश्चाताप और समर्पण करने के मार्ग का पालन करने के द्वारा ही आप परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और उसे स्वीकार्य बन सकते हैं। अभी समय और अवसर रहते सही मार्ग अपना लें, और व्यर्थ तथा निष्फल मार्ग को छोड़ दें।

Utility of the Law – 2 

In the previous article, while considering the utility of the Law, we had seen that God had promised Abraham that the savior of the world, Lord Jesus Christ, would be his seed (Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 3:16-18). And, till the fulfillment of the promise, i.e., till the arrival of Lord Jesus, the Law was given to keep reminding God’s people about their sinful state, and to teach them about the promised savior of the world. Now, when the Lord Jesus has come and completed the work of salvation, all things of the Law were automatically fulfilled by Him, and then were removed from being necessary for being observed by the Lord's people; i.e., then onwards, that “teacher” was no longer required for them, “but when faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor" (Galatians 3:25). That teacher, the Law, having taught the Lord's people about sin, its consequences, their accountability for sin, and the standards of God's righteousness, then handed us over to the perfect incarnation of God's righteousness, into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now whosoever accepts the righteousness of God, as a gift, from the hands of the Lord, by voluntarily coming into faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, becomes a child of God and His heir, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:26), and then, having come in the Lord, there remains no mutual differentiation of any kind; all become members of one and the same family of God by faith "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).

Thus, we understand from Galatians 3 that the purpose of the Law was to, as a teacher, safeguard the Lord's people until the Lord, the promised Savior, came. Keeping them conscious of sin and its consequences, and to teach them that their redemption from sin is possible not through any works but only through coming into faith in the Redeemer. Because people did not understand the Law according to its true definition, but misinterpreted it as a formality of regularly observing the feasts and rituals, and the offering of gifts and sacrifices, they lost sight of the true purpose of the Law, and got lost in the impossible task of fulfilling it. They got deceived and entangled by Satan in the error of trying to be justified by the Law; Instead of learning from the Law about recognizing sin, salvation, and the Savior, which, as had been intended, was the actual purpose of the Law.

Even today people remain entrapped in making the same mistake. Even today they assume that by virtue of being born in a particular religion or family, because of their observances of the customs set by their religion and religious place, and by their sects, communities, and familial traditions, etc., in the form of certain days and festivals, traditions and rituals, and, for the Christians - by their participating in sacraments such as baptism, Holy Communion, etc. they are safe, and God is under compulsion to accept them as His children, to accept them to be with Him in heaven. By dogmatically engaging in the things of their own making, people have strayed from the truth of receiving God's righteousness through repentance and faith. Sadly, no one gives the slightest thought to the fact that when the Law given by God could not save people, how can the different laws of different people, created and taught by man, deliver them?

Salvation, forgiveness of sins, becoming a child of God, and being accepted into God's kingdom, is not through observance of any Law, but only by voluntarily repenting of sins and accepting the Lord Jesus as Savior, surrendering to Him.

 

In the next article, we'll look at our third question, i.e., the role of the law in the lives of Christians. For now, if you are hoping to justify yourself by observing any sort of "law" — whether that of God, or of your religion, creed, community, or denomination — and are trying to make yourself acceptable to God by being ‘good’ through the works of the flesh; then pay heed and understand that God's Word clearly states that you become righteous and acceptable to God, not by keeping the Law, but only by following the God given path of repentance and submission to the Lord. Therefore, while you have the time and the opportunity, take the right decision, decide on the right path, and leave the useless and fruitless path.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पुनःअवलोकन: हमने इस श्रृंखला के आरंभ में तीन प्रश्न अपने सामने रखे थे: पहला, यदि उद्धार व्यवस्था के पालन से नहीं है, तो फिर पुराने और नए नियम में व्यवस्था द्वारा जीवन मिलने की बात क्यों कही गई? दूसरा, व्यवस्था के दिए जाने का उद्देश्य क्या था? और तीसरा प्रश्न है कि आज हम मसीही विश्वासियों, प्रभु के लोगों के लिए, क्या व्यवस्था की कोई उपयोगिता अथवा भूमिका है? पिछले लेखों में हम इनमें से पहले प्रश्न, व्यवस्था के द्वारा जीवन मिलने को देख और समझा है। हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर ने जो कहा है, उसे पूरा भी किया है। हमने समझा था की “व्यवस्था” की सही परिभाषा, परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही संबंध बनाने और निभाने का सही निर्वाह करना (मत्ती 22:37-40), उसे पूरा करना, उसके अनुसार जीवन जीना है। साथ ही हमने बाइबल के अनुसार “जीवन” का तात्पर्य को भी समझा था कि यह प्रभु परमेश्वर में विश्वास में आना है (यूहन्ना 6:63: 6:68; 14:6; 17:3; रोमियों 8:1-2); अर्थात, स्वेच्छा से अपने जीवन को प्रभु को समर्पित करके उसका प्रतिबद्ध एवं आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बनने का निर्णय लेना, और परमेश्वर के परिवार का सदस्य बन जाना है (यूहन्ना 1:12-13)। इस सन्दर्भ में हमने देखा था कि, पुराने नियम में भी (इब्रानियों 11 अध्याय तथा हनोक - उत्पत्ति 5:24 और एलिय्याह - 2 राजाओं 2:9-12, के जीवनों से), और नए नियम में भी लोगों ने केवल इसी विश्वास में स्वेच्छा से आने के आधार पर ही अनन्त जीवन में प्रवेश किया है, और आज भी कर रहे हैं। आज से हम दूसरे प्रश्न, परमेश्वर के लोगों को व्यवस्था के दिए जाने के उद्देश्य को समझना आरम्भ करेंगे।

 

इसके लिए कृपया परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में से गलातियों 3 अध्याय को अपने सामने रखिए। इस अध्याय के पहले 12 पदों में व्यवस्था के श्राप, अर्थात उसके संपूर्ण पालन की अनिवार्यता को समझाने के बाद, 13 पद में लिखा है कि मसीह यीशु ने हमारे लिए श्रापित होकर, अर्थात, व्यवस्था का उसकी पूर्णता में पालन कर के, हमें व्यवस्था के पालन के बंधन से छुड़ा लिया है। और उसने यह इसलिए किया कि, “यह इसलिये हुआ, कि इब्राहिम की आशीष मसीह यीशु में अन्यजातियों तक पहुंचे, और हम विश्वास के द्वारा उस आत्मा को प्राप्त करें, जिस की प्रतिज्ञा हुई है” (गलातियों 3:14)। परमेश्वर ने अब्राहम को सारे जगत की आशीषों का मूल, और उसमें होकर परमेश्वर की आशीषों को संसार के सभी लोगों में पहुँचाने की प्रतिज्ञा, व्यवस्था के दिए जाने से 430 वर्ष पहले ही दे दी थी (उत्पत्ति 12:1-3; गलातियों 3:16-18)। और जैसा गलातियों 3:16 में लिखा है, अब्राहम को दी गई यह प्रतिज्ञा उसके वंश में से जन्म लेने वाले प्रभु यीशु मसीह में होकर संसार के सभी लोगों के लिए दी गई थी। और 3:17 के अनुसार, व्यवस्था आकर इस प्रतिज्ञा को टाल नहीं देती है; व्यवस्था तो प्रतिज्ञा में जोड़ी गई है। फिर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, पौलुस में होकर 3:19 में व्यवस्था के दिए जाने के उद्देश्य को बताता है, “तब फिर व्यवस्था क्यों दी गई? वह तो अपराधों के कारण बाद में दी गई, कि उस वंश के आने तक रहे, जिस को प्रतिज्ञा दी गई थी, और वह स्‍वर्गदूतों के द्वारा एक मध्यस्थ के हाथ ठहराई गई” (गलातियों 3:19)। अर्थात, अब्राहम को प्रतिज्ञा के दिए जाने से लेकर, मसीह यीशु में प्रतिज्ञा के पूरे किए जाने के समय यानि कि प्रभु यीशु के उद्धारकर्ता होकर आने के समय तक, लोगों को निरंतर उनके पाप की दशा का एहसास करवाते रहने के लिए (इब्रानियों 10:3), व्यवस्था का दिया जाना आवश्यक था।

 

व्यवस्था के कारण लोगों को उनके पाप का ही नहीं, वरन पाप के लिए उनकी जवाबदेही का भी एहसास हुआ, क्योंकि उन्हें बार-बार अपने पापों को स्वीकार करते हुए उनके लिए निर्धारित भेंट और बलिदान चढ़ाने पड़ते थे। व्यवस्था, यानि कि परमेश्वर के मानकों के द्वारा ही उन्हें पाप के बारे में सीखा और उन्हें पाप क्या है की पहचान हुई (रोमियों 3:20; 5:13)। व्यवस्था एक शिक्षक के समान लोगों को पाप के बारे में सिखाने, और उन्हें यह स्मरण दिलाते रहने के लिए थी कि “क्योंकि अनहोना है, कि बैलों और बकरों का लहू पापों को दूर करे” (इब्रानियों 10:4)। व्यवस्था, प्रभु के उन्हें बचाने और छुड़ाने के लिए आने तक, उन्हें संभाले रखने के लिए थी (गलातियों 3:23-24)। हम देख चुके हैं कि व्यवस्था का अर्थ है परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही संबंध में आना और बने रहना। व्यवस्था में दिए गए सभी पर्व, भेंट, बलिदान, रीतियाँ, आदि, सभी प्रभु यीशु मसीह के चरित्र, जीवन, और समस्त मानव जाति उद्धार के लिए उनके द्वारा किए गए कार्य के विभिन्न पहलुओं के प्ररूप या प्रतीक हैं।

 

दूसरे शब्दों में, व्यवस्था में दी गई ये सभी बातें मिलकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह के सम्पूर्ण स्वरूप और उस के उद्धार के कार्य को उसकी परिपूर्णता में दिखाती हैं, और यह यूहन्ना 1:1 - वचन के परमेश्वर तथा परमेश्वर के साथ होने की भी पुष्टि है। इसीलिए व्यवस्था में दी गई इन बातों - पर्वों, भेंट, बलिदान, रीतियों, आदि को यदि निभाना है तो उनकी संपूर्णता में ही निभाना पड़ेगा, तब ही प्रभु का सम्पूर्ण स्वरूप और कार्य पूरा किया गया माना जा सकेगा। किसी भी, कोई एक भी बात को नहीं निभाना, या सही रीति से, सच्चे और पूरे मन से नहीं निभाना, प्रभु यीशु के व्यक्तित्व, उसके जीवन और कार्यों, उसके उद्धार के कार्य को, उसके लिखित, अथवा आत्मिक में, या दोनों ही स्वरूपों में अधूरा छोड़ देने, उसे केवल एक ऊपरी, औपचारिक रीति बना देने के समान है, और ऐसे अधूरे तथा बिना खराई तथा पूर्ण सच्चे समर्पण से किये गये कार्य पूर्णता नहीं हैं, और इसीलिये ऐसे निर्वाह से उद्धार नहीं है। इसीलिए व्यवस्था का यह निर्वाह केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही कर सकता था, और उसी ने किया भी। इसीलिए किसी भी मनुष्य के लिए प्रभु यीशु के समान सिद्ध रीति से संपूर्ण व्यवस्था का पालन असंभव है - क्योंकि तब तो वह मनुष्य प्रभु यीशु के - परमेश्वर के समान हो जाएगा - जो कि असंभव है।

 

कृपया एक पल के लिये थोड़ा रुक कर, इस बात के अर्थ और अभिप्राय को समझिये, उस पर मनन कीजिये। मनुष्य का अपने प्रयास से व्यवस्था को पूरा करने और उद्धार पाने का अभिप्राय है, परमेश्वर के समान हो जाना, उसके स्तर तक पहुँच जाना। और प्रधान स्वर्गदूत लूसिफर यही करने के प्रयास के कारण स्वर्ग से गिराया गया, शैतान बन गया; और आज वह मनुष्यों को धर्म और व्यवस्था का पालन करने, अपनी समझ और प्रयासों से धर्मी होने, अपने ही गढ़े हुए तरीकों के द्वारा परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने, आदि की अपनी कुटिल युक्तियों के द्वारा अपने किये गये के समान के घातक प्रयास में फँसाए रखता है। शैतान अपने अनुभव से भली-भाँति जानता है कि ऐसे सभी प्रयास व्यर्थ हैं, कभी सफल नहीं हो सकते हैं; परन्तु साथ ही वह यह भी जानता है कि ये लोगों को परमेश्वर तथा स्वर्ग से दूर रखने के अचूक तरीके भी हैं। इसलिये, लोगों को इन प्रयासों में उलझाए रखने के द्वारा, वह उन्हें परमेश्वर और स्वर्ग से दूर बनाए रखता है, और वे यही सोचते, समझते रहते हैं कि वे भक्त, धर्मी, परमेश्वर के निकट और उसे स्वीकार्य हैं। इसीलिये, बाइबल हमें किसी भी प्रकार की - मनुष्यों की बनाई हुई या परमेश्वर के द्वारा दी गई व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा उद्धार मिलने के लिये नहीं कहती है। बल्कि हमारे लिये परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था के पालन को पूर्ण करके उसे हमारे मार्ग से हटा देने वाले (कुलुस्सियों 2:12-14) उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु में स्वेच्छा से विश्वास लाने, उसका आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बन जाने के द्वारा उद्धार को परमेश्वर से एक उपहार के समान स्वीकार करने के लिये सिखाती है।

   

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Utility of the Law – 1 

Review: At the beginning of this series, we had three questions before us: First, if salvation is not from the observance of the Law, then why does the Old and New Testaments speak of having life through the law? Second, why was the Law given? And the third question is, does the Law have any utility or role, for us Christians, the people of the Lord, today? In the previous articles, we have looked at and understood the first of these questions, the receiving of life through the Law. We have seen that what God has said, He has also fulfilled it. We understood that the correct definition of "the Law," is coming into and maintaining the right relationship with God and fellow human beings (Matthew 22:37-40), fulfilling it and living by it. Then we had also understood what it means to “have life.” We had seen that according to the Bible, to have life means to come into faith in the Lord God (John 6:63: 6:68; 14:6; 17:3; Romans 8:1-2); i.e., it is to voluntarily submit one’s life to the Lord and become His committed, obedient disciple, and by faith become a part of God’s family (John 1:12-13). In this context we saw that people in the Old Testament (Hebrews 11 and the lives of Enoch - Genesis 5:24 and Elijah - 2 Kings 2:9-12), and in the New Testament have entered eternal life by voluntarily coming into faith, and continue to do so even today. Today onwards we'll consider the second question, the purpose of the Law being given to God's people.

For this please keep Galatians, chapter 3 before you from God’s Word, the Bible. In this chapter, after explaining the “curse of the Law”, i.e., the necessity of its absolutely perfect observance, in the first 12 verses of this chapter, verse 13 states that Christ Jesus, became cursed for us, i.e., suffered and kept the Law in its fullness for us, and thereby gave us the freedom from the bondage of Law. And why did He do it, "that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:14). God had promised Abraham that he would be the source of blessings for the whole world. This promise of God's blessings coming upon all people of the world through Abraham, had been made to him 430 years before the Law was given (Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 3:16-18). And as it is written in Galatians 3:16, this promise given to Abraham was to be made available to all the people of the world through his seed, through the Lord Jesus Christ. According to 3:17, the coming of the Law did not nullify this promise; the promise remained very much in place, awaiting its fulfilment. Then in 3:19, the Holy Spirit through Paul states the purpose of giving the Law - Law was only added to it, as God the Holy Spirit, states through Paul, "What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator” (Galatians 3:19). From the time the promise was given to Abraham, until the fulfilment of the promise in Christ Jesus, through the coming of the Lord Jesus as Savior of the world, the Law was given, to keep people continually aware of the state of their sinfulness, by repeated reminders (Hebrews 10: 3).

The Law not only made people realize their state of sinfulness, but also of their accountability for sin, as they repeatedly had to confess their sins and offer the prescribed offerings and sacrifices for them time and again. It was by the Law, i.e., through God's standards, that they could learn of, and identify sin, in and around them (Romans 3:20; 5:13). The Law was meant to be a teacher to teach people about sin, and to keep reminding them that “... For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). The Law was meant to safeguard them until the Lord came to deliver and redeem them (Galatians 3:23-24). We already have seen that the actual meaning of the Law is to come into and remain in the right relationship with God and human beings. All the feasts, offerings, sacrifices, rituals, etc. mentioned in the Law, are all fore-types and representations of various aspects of the character, life, and work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of all mankind.

 

In other words, all these things given in the Law, put together, fully show the nature of the Lord Jesus Christ and His work of salvation in all its fullness; and this is also an affirmation of John 1:1 - of the Word being God and being with God. That is why, if these things that are given in the Law, i.e., the feasts, offerings, sacrifices, rituals, etc. are to be fulfilled by any person, then they have to be fulfilled, in-toto, in letter and in spirit, in true reverence, by that person. A partial fulfilment, i.e., leaving out even one thing, or not fulfilling it in the proper manner, i.e., not with full integrity and a fully surrendered and committed heart, will be merely doing it as a ritual, and will be the same as non-fulfilment, since that would leave the life and work of Christ Jesus incomplete in either the letter or the spirit, or both; and therefore cannot be a complete and proper fulfillment, so will be never be able to save anyone. That is why only the Lord Jesus Christ could fulfill the Law for us, and He did it too. And that is why it is impossible for any person to perfectly fulfil the Law like the Lord Jesus did - for that would imply that the person has become equal to God - an impossibility.

 

Please stop here for a moment, and ponder over this, consider its implication. For man being able to attain salvation by his efforts and methods implies becoming equal to God, to reach up to God’s level and standards. And, the archangel Lucifer was cast out of heaven and became Satan, for trying to do this very thing. Today,  through his devious ploys of fulfilling Law and religion, being righteous through their works and understanding, becoming acceptable to God by their own methods, etc., Satan keeps mankind trapped in doing the very same and fatal thing that led to his own downfall. Satan knows from his own experience that such efforts are all futile and unattainable; but he also knows that they are sure-shot ways of keeping people away from God and heaven. So, through getting people caught up in attempting them, he keeps the people away from God and heaven, while they keep thinking that they are godly, righteous, near and acceptable to God. That is why the Bible teaches us to stop striving to attain salvation through observing any Law - whether man-made or God-given. Instead, to accept salvation as a gift from God by voluntarily coming to faith in the only one who has fulfilled God’s Law for us, and put it out of our way (Colossians 2:12-14), and becoming His obedient disciple.
