क्या उद्धार के लिए अनिवार्य है? (1)
जैसा कि हम पिछले लेखों में देख चुके हैं, “बपतिस्मों,” इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई आरम्भिक बातों में से एक है जिन्हें प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को सीखना और जानना चाहिए। पिछले लेखों में बपतिस्मे से संबंधित कुछ आधारभूत बातों को देखने के बाद, आज से हम बपतिस्मे से संबंधित कुछ विवादास्पद बातों को देखना और समझना आरंभ करेंगे। इनमें से पहली बात है एक बहुत आम धारणा कि उद्धार पाने के लिए बपतिस्मा लेना भी आवश्यक है, बिना बपतिस्मे के उद्धार नहीं है। इन बातों को समझने के लिए, बाइबल की बातों की सही व्याख्या करने से संबंधित कुछ मुख्य मूल सिद्धांतों को ध्यान में रखना अति-आवश्यक है। संक्षेप में, ये सिद्धांत हैं:
हर बात को उसके संदर्भ में लेना,
उस विषय से संबंधित बाइबल के अन्य पदों के साथ मेल रखते हुए उसे समझना,
उसे बाइबल की अन्य संबंधित शिक्षाओं के साथ मेल रखते हुए लेना,
और उसके उस प्राथमिक अर्थ की सहायता से उसे समझना जो उसके मूल या प्रथम श्रोताओं ने उस बात के कहे या लिखे जाने के समय समझा था और पालन किया था।
इन सिद्धांतों का अनिवार्यतः पालन करते हुए बाइबल की व्याख्या करने और निष्कर्ष निकालने के द्वारा ही हम गलती करने से बचे रह सकते हैं। साथ ही हमें यह भी ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि सामान्य वार्तालाप और भाषा के उपयोग के समान, बाइबल में भी आलंकारिक भाषा का उपयोग किया गया है। साथ ही, सामान्य भाषा और उपयोग के समान, बाइबल के लेखों में उपयोग किए गए शब्दों के एक से अधिक शब्दार्थ भी हो सकते हैं; इसीलिए हमेशा ही संदर्भ और उपरोक्त सिद्धांतों के पालन के द्वारा ही उचित और लागू किए जाने वाले शब्दार्थ को पहचाना जा सकता है। अर्थात, हर बात केवल उसके एक ही शब्दार्थ में ही नहीं, बल्कि संदर्भ के अनुसार उसके अर्थ या भावार्थ में भी समझनी आवश्यक होती है। यदि इन मूल सिद्धांतों का ध्यान न रखा जाए, तो गलत व्याख्या और अनुचित अर्थ निकालना बहुत सरल हो जाता है; और इसी गलती के कारण ये गलत व्याख्याएं और गलत शिक्षाएं बनाई और सिखाई जाती हैं।
बाइबल की यह एक भली-भांति स्थापित और अनेकों स्थानों पर दी गई शिक्षा है कि उद्धार किसी भी प्रकार के कर्म से नहीं है (इफिसियों 2:5, 8-9), बपतिस्मे से भी नहीं, क्योंकि वह भी एक प्रकार का कर्म है। बाइबल के किसी भी अंश की जो भी व्याख्या, केवल और केवल प्रभु यीशु पर लाए गए विश्वास के कारण परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह के द्वारा पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के अटल सिद्धांत का खण्डन करती है, उसके विरुद्ध जाती है, वह गलत है, अस्वीकार्य है; वह चाहे कितनी भी तर्कपूर्ण या भली प्रतीत क्यों न हो।
इन बातों को ध्यान में रखते हुए बाइबल के कुछ तथ्यों पर विचार कीजिए:
क्रूस पर पश्चाताप करने वाले डाकू ने कौन सा बपतिस्मा लिया? किन्तु वह स्वर्ग गया। महान आज्ञा के दिए जाने से पहले ही, उद्धार पाने और स्वर्ग जाने के लिए बपतिस्मे की अनिवार्यता की मन-गढ़ंत धारणा का आधार ही मिटा दिया गया है।
अनेकों लोग जीवन के अंतिम पलों में उद्धार पाते हैं, जब वे किसी न किसी कारण से बपतिस्मा नहीं लेने पाते हैं; इसी प्रकार से कई लोग विश्वास करने के बाद किसी वैध कारण से बपतिस्मा नहीं लेने पाते हैं, जैसे, सूखे रेगिस्तानी अथवा बर्फीले इलाकों में रहने, या रेडियो पर सुसमाचार सुनकर विश्वास करने और उद्धार पाने किन्तु किसी एकांत स्थान में अकेले होने, जहाँ उन्हें बपतिस्मा देने वाला कोई न हो, आदि। क्या वे केवल इसलिए नाश हो जाएंगे क्योंकि पश्चाताप और विश्वास तो किया, पूरी खराई से प्रभु यीशु को उद्धारकर्ता भी ग्रहण किया, किन्तु बपतिस्मे की रस्म पूरी नहीं करने पाए?
हम प्रभु की महान आज्ञा से यह देख चुके हैं कि उद्धार बपतिस्मे से नहीं है; वरन उद्धार पाए हुओं के लिए बपतिस्मा है। प्रभु द्वारा मत्ती 28:19-20 में दिया गया क्रम है - पहले शिष्य बनाओ; जो शिष्य बने उसे बपतिस्मा दो और उसे प्रभु की बातें सिखाओ; बपतिस्मा प्रभु का शिष्य बनाने के बाद है।
इससे यह भी स्पष्ट है कि बपतिस्मा बच्चों या शिशुओं के लिए नहीं है, केवल उनके लिए है जिन्होंने प्रभु यीशु को उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार किया और उसके शिष्य हो गए हैं।
यदि किसी भी पद की कोई भी व्याख्या उद्धार तथा मसीही शिष्यता से संबंधित इस मूल सिद्धांत को काटती है, तो वह व्याख्या या शिक्षा गलत है। उसे फिर से समझना, सुधारना, और पुनः व्याख्या के द्वारा सही स्वरूप में ला कर देखना अनिवार्य है। बाइबल में कहीं भी कोई भी विरोधाभास नहीं है; और न ही किसी को असंगत बातों अथवा विरोधाभासों को लाने की अनुमति है। हम इसी विषय पर आगे के लेखों में भी देखेंगे।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Is It Necessary for Salvation? (1)
As we have seen in the earlier articles, “Baptisms” is one of the elementary principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2, that every Born-Again Christian Believer needs to learn and know. After looking at some of the basics about baptism in the previous articles, today we'll begin to look at and understand some of the controversial things related to baptism. The first of these is a very common belief that baptism is also necessary for a person to be saved; that salvation is with baptism. To understand these things, it is necessary to keep in mind the main basic principles for the correct interpretation of the Bible that we had seen initially. In brief, these principles are:
to consider everything in its context;
to consider it with other verses at other places in the Bible that are related to that topic;
to consider it along with other related teachings of the Bible,
to consider it with the meaning that its original or first audience understood and followed when it was first said.
Adhering to these principles of Bible interpretation is mandatory to avoid wrong interpretations and conclusions. At the same time, we should also note that the Bible too uses figurative language, similar to normal conversation and use of language. And that words used in Bible text, as in general usage, can have more than one literal meaning; therefore, it is always the context and the following of the above-mentioned principles that decides the appropriate and correct meaning applicable. Therefore, it is necessary to understand everything not only in a single literal meaning, but, also according to the context, its implied meaning or connotation, and the meaning that those who first heard it understood and accepted. If these basic principles are not diligently followed, it becomes very easy to misinterpret and misunderstand many things. It is because of these mistakes that the misinterpretations and wrong teachings come about and are taught.
It is a well-established and often stated teaching of the Bible that salvation is not by any kind of works (Ephesians 2:5, 8-9); not even by baptism, because that too is a form of work. Any interpretation of any part of the Bible that contradicts or goes contrary to the absolute unchanging doctrine of the forgiveness of sins and salvation only and only by the grace of God because of coming into faith in the Lord Jesus, is wrong and absolutely unacceptable; no matter how logical or pleasing it may seem to be.
With these things in mind, ponder over some Biblical facts:
What baptism did the robber who repented on the cross take? But he went to heaven. Even before the Great Commission was given, the contrived necessity of baptism for being saved and going to heaven had been negated.
Many are saved in their last moments of life, when they cannot take baptism for one reason or another; similarly, many for some other valid reason are unable to take baptism after believing, e.g., living in arid deserts or snow-bound localities, having come to faith through radio-broadcasts but living in an isolated place and being alone, being the only Believers with no one to baptize them, etc. Will they perish because although they have truly repented and believed, have wholeheartedly accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior, but for some compelling reason, couldn't fulfil the baptismal rituals?
We have seen in the Great Commission, given by the Lord, that baptism is to be administered only to those who are saved; and not that baptism will give salvation to anyone. The sequence given by the Lord in Matthew 28:19-20 is - Make disciples first; then baptize and teach the words of the Lord to whoever becomes a disciple - this is the order given by the Lord in this Great Commission.
It is also clear from this that baptism is not for children or infants, but only for those who have accepted the Lord Jesus as Savior and have become His disciples.
If any interpretation of any verse of the Bible contradicts these basic principles of salvation and Christian discipleship, then that interpretation or teaching is wrong. It is essential to reinterpret it, correct it. There are no contradictions in the Bible; and no one can bring in inconsistencies and contradictions either. We will continue on this topic in the articles ahead.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
