    पिछले लेख में, 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 पर, एक उदाहरण के समान विचार करते हुए, कि पौलुस किस तरह से परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गयी सेवकाई में, परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार करता था, हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था, और न ही वह पवित्र शास्त्र के उसके ज्ञान और समझ के अनुसार वचन का प्रचार और शिक्षा, उसके ज्ञान और समझ की उत्तमता के साथ करता था, और कुरिन्थियों के मध्य अपनी सेवकाई के दौरान उसने अपने आप को निर्बल और भयभीत भी अनुभव किया; परन्तु क्योंकि वह परमेश्वर के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी था, इसलिए परमेश्वर ने उसे बड़ी सामर्थ्य से भरकर उपयोग किया। परमेश्वर ने पौलुस की अयोग्यताओं और कमियों के बावजूद, कुरिन्थुस जैसे शहर में, उसके द्वारा कलीसिया की स्थापना करवाई, जो उस बात की पुष्टि करता है जो पौलुस ने कही, कि उसकी सेवकाई पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य द्वारा थी, न कि उसकी अपनी किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान के कारण।

    पौलुस 2:5 में एक बात का उल्लेख करता है जिसका ध्यान वह परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग करने और उस से व्यवहार करने में करता था – उसके श्रोता अपना भरोसा किस पर रख रहे हैं – उसके प्रचार, ज्ञान, और बुद्धि पर, या परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर? उसका प्रयास यही सुनिश्चित करने पर रहता था कि श्रोता केवल परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर ही भरोसा रखें, न कि पौलुस की किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान पर। इसीलिए, जैसा हमने पहले भी देखा है, पौलुस उसके अथवा किसी भी अन्य मनुष्य, परमेश्वर के सेवकों, का अनुसरण करने की प्रवृत्ति का, तथा कलीसिया में किसी भी आधार पर कोई भी गुट बनाने या विभाजन होने का घोर विरोध करता था। यह वर्तमान में अनेकों कलीसियाओं, यहाँ तक कि विश्वासियों की मण्डलियों में भी देखी जाने वाली प्रवृत्ति के बिलकुल विपरीत है; जहाँ पर अगुवे, पास्टर, और अन्य प्रमुख जन अपनी ही बात के माने जाने, और परमेश्वर के वचन की उनकी ही समझ और व्याख्या का बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए पालन किए जाने पर बल देते हैं, वैसा ही करवाते हैं। और इसीलिए कलीसियाओं में व्यक्तियों के अनुसरण के अनुसार न केवल गुट बनते और विभाजन होते हैं, वरन ऐसा होने को बढ़ावा भी दिया जाता है। जैसा पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखी अपनी पत्री में लिखा है, उद्धार देने वाला सच्चा विश्वास केवल परमेश्वर के वचन ही से आता है (रोमियों 10:17), और पतरस ने भी अपनी पहली पत्री में इस की पुष्टि की है कि विश्वासी होना, नया जन्म प्राप्त करना, परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा ही होता है (1 पतरस 1:23)। इसका अभिप्राय प्रकट है, वह चाहे कोई भी हो, किसी भी मनुष्य का वचन कभी भी किसी को भी उद्धार नहीं दे सकता है।

    इसलिए, जो लोग परमेश्वर के वचन के सेवकाई में लगे हैं, उन्हें पौलुस के समान इस बात का बहुत ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि, चाहे जानते हुए अथवा अनजाने में, वे लोगों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करने वाले, उनकी योग्यताओं और वरदानों में भरोसा रखने वाले न बनाएँ; बल्कि केवल परमेश्वर और उसके वचन ही पर भरोसा रखने वाले हों। साथ ही, पौलुस के समान, उन्हें भी किसी प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक का अनुसरण करते हुए गुट बनाने और विभाजन करने की प्रवृत्ति से बचे रहना है। उन्हें लोगों को परमेश्वर और उसके वचन का अनुसरण करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है, न कि किसी मनुष्य के वचन के। जैसा हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 पर विचार करते हुए देखा था, परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलाई गयी मानवीय बुद्धि की बातें, वचन को व्यर्थ और निष्फल कर देती हैं।

    ऐसा नहीं है कि पौलुस कभी बुद्धि और समझ की बातें नहीं करता था; जैसा उसने 2:6-8 में कहा है, वह ज्ञान की बातें भी सुनाता था, किन्तु इस बात के लिए सचेत रहता था कि ऐसा केवल सिद्ध, आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व लोगों के मध्य करे। और तब भी, ज्ञान की बातें करते समय, पौलुस एक बार फिर से इसका भी ध्यान रखता था कि, “परन्तु हम परमेश्वर का वह गुप्‍त ज्ञान, भेद की रीति पर बताते हैं, जिसे परमेश्वर ने सनातन से हमारी महिमा के लिये ठहराया” (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:7)। अर्थात, एक बार फिर, ज्ञान की बात करते हुए, पौलुस कभी परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए हुए वचन से बाहर नहीं जाता था, परमेश्वर के वचन में कभी अपना वचन नहीं मिलाता था, वरन केवल वही कहता था जो परमेश्वर चाहता था कि वह कहे।

    इस प्रकार से, इन पदों के द्वारा हम परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में पौलुस से एक और बात सीखते हैं, कि, पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में, श्रोताओं के, तथा उनकी आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार ही, केवल वही बोलें जो परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उन लोगों से कहा जाए। अविश्वासियों और नए विश्वासियों से, उनसे जो विश्वास में अपरिपक्व हैं, पौलुस सीधे और साधारण शब्दों तथा भाषा में प्रभु यीशु तथा उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, अर्थात सुसमाचार के बारे में बात करता था। लेकिन जो आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व थे, सिद्ध थे, उनके साथ वह परमेश्वर के ज्ञान के बारे में बात करता था, उस ज्ञान के बारे में जिसे परमेश्वर ने गुप्त रखा हुआ था। लेकिन दोनों ही बातों के लिए, पौलुस कभी भी परमेश्वर ने जो उसे उन श्रोताओं से बोलने, उन्हें प्रचार करने, उन्हें सिखाने के लिए दिया था, उस से बाहर नहीं जाता था। परमेश्वर के प्रति उस का यह समर्पण, निर्भरता, और आज्ञाकारिता ही उसकी सफलता का भेद है, तब भी, और आज भी – परमेश्वर के वचन में उसके लिखे लेखों के द्वारा; और यही बात हमारी भी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई की सफलता का आधार है।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 10

 

    In the previous article, while considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, as an example of how Paul utilized and handled God’s Word in his God given ministry, we had seen that although Paul was not an eloquent speaker, nor did he preach and teach God’s Word in any excellence of his knowledge and wisdom of the Scriptures, and during his ministry amongst the Corinthians he had even felt weak and afraid, yet because he was totally surrendered and obedient to God, therefore, God had used him mightily. Through Paul, despite his weakness and short-comings, in a place like Corinth, God had got a Church established, which affirmed what he said in these verses, that his ministry was proof that he worked through the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, and not based on his gifts and abilities.

    In 2:5, Paul mentions a concern that he had while handling and ministering God’s Word – on what were his audience placing their faith – his preaching, knowledge, and wisdom, or in the power of God? His endeavor was to ensure that his audience trusted only in the power of God, and not any of Paul’s abilities or gifts. That is why, as we have seen before, Paul strongly discouraged any fan-following of himself or any of God’s ministers and any factionalism in the Church on any grounds. This presents a stark contrast to the trend seen today in many Churches, and even Believer’s Assemblies; where the Elders, Pastors, and other leaders insist on their word, their interpretation of God’s Word, to be accepted unchallenged. Therefore, factionalism based on personal following in the Church not only happens, but is also encouraged and promoted. As Paul has written in his letter to the Romans, the true saving faith comes only from the Word of God (Romans 10:17), and Peter affirmed it in his first letter that being Believers and Born Again was through the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). The implication is evident, not the word of man, whosoever he may be, will never bring anyone to salvation.

    Hence, those engaged in the ministry of God’s Word, like Paul, should also make it a point to ensure that they do not, knowingly or unknowingly, attract their audience into developing a false faith in their own abilities and gifts, instead of having faith only in God and His Word. Rather, like Paul, they should also make it a point to discourage all factionalism and fan-following of certain preachers and teachers which leads to forming of groups and then to factions. They should encourage and persuade people to follow after God’s Word the Bible, instead of the words of any man. We have already seen while considering 1 Corinthians 1:17, how the wisdom of man mixed in God’s Word renders it vain and infructuous.

    It is not that Paul never talked about wisdom; as he says in 2:6-8, he did speak wisdom also, but was careful to do it only amongst those who were spiritually mature. And here too we see that even when speaking with wisdom, Paul again made it a point to speak “the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory” (1 Corinthians 2:7). So, once again, when speaking wisdom, Paul did not go out of God’s Word, never mixed his own words into God’s Word, but only spoke that which God wanted him to speak about.

    So, through these verses, we learn another aspect of utilizing and handling God’s Word from Paul, i.e., under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, speak according to the audience, and their needs, but only according to what God wants you to speak. For the unbelievers and novices, for those who were still immature in faith, Paul spoke in simple straightforward language and words, about the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, i.e., the gospel. But amongst those who were spiritually mature, he shared the wisdom of God, and spoke about God’s wisdom kept hidden in mysteries. But in either case, Paul never spoke anything other than what God had given him to speak, preach, and teach to a particular audience. This submission, dependence, and obedience to God in fulfilling his ministry, is the secret for his success, then, as well as now – through his writings in God’s Word; and can serve as the secret for the success of our God given ministries too.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में, पौलुस के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार के उदाहरण के रूप में 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 पर विचार करते हुए, हमने देखा था कि वह तथा उसका सह-कर्मी, अपुल्लोस, दोनों ही पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर ही निर्भर रहते थे, और जो भी वचन परमेश्वर उन्हें देता था, वे उसी का उपयोग करते थे, एक-दूसरे की सेवकाई में सहायता करते थे। उन में से कोई भी परमेश्वर का कार्य करने के लिए अपनी ही बुद्धि, ज्ञान, और योग्यताओं का उपयोग नहीं करता था; और न ही कभी पौलुस ने, एक अच्छा वक्ता न होने के कारण अपने आप को कभी हतोत्साहित अनुभव किया। अपनी सेवकाई के प्रत्येक पक्ष के लिए वे पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहते थे, और इसीलिए वे परमेश्वर के लिए इतने सफल और फलवन्त थे। जो शिक्षा हमने सीखी थी, वह थी कि परमेश्वर के द्वारा हमें सौंपी गई सेवकाई के निर्वाह के लिए, हमें भी हर बात में पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहने, उसके मार्गदर्शन और निर्देशों का पालन करने की आवश्यकता है। तब ही परमेश्वर हमें उपयोग करेगा, आशीष देगा, और अनन्तकालीन प्रतिफल देगा, चाहे हमारी कोई भी योग्यता अथवा दुर्बलता क्यों न हो। आज हम पौलुस की सेवकाई के विषय पर थोड़ा विचार करेंगे।

    अब, यहाँ पर हमें कुरिन्थुस शहर के बारे में कुछ ध्यान रखने की आवश्यकता है। जिस समय पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में सेवकाई की, वह यूनान का एक बहुत प्रमुख शहर था, व्यापार का एक प्रमुख केंद्र था। इस कारण से वहाँ पर सभी स्थानों से बहुत से लोगों का आना-जाना लगा रहता था, और वह एक मूर्तिपूजा का तथा नैतिक रीति से बहुत भ्रष्ट स्थान बन चुका था। ऐसे स्थान पर पौलुस ने परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार किया, किसे वाक्पटुता अथवा बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ के द्वारा नहीं, किन्तु सीधे साधारण शब्दों और शैली में। और फिर भी वह वहाँ पर एक कलीसिया को स्थापित कर सका और उसके इतने चाहने वाले हो गए कि वहाँ रहने वाले यहूदी उससे जलन रखने लगे और उसके शत्रु बन गए (प्रेरितों 18:6, 12)। यदि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता होता, या अपने बुद्धि-ज्ञान को प्रदर्शित करता, तो भी यह कहा जा सकता था कि उसके प्रचार के परिणाम उसकी इन योग्यताओं के कारण थे; लेकिन उस में ये योग्यताएँ थी ही नहीं। इसीलिए पौलुस ने 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 में जो बात कही, कुरिन्थुस में उसकी सेवकाई के परिणाम उस बात की पुष्टि करते हैं। वहाँ पर उसकी सेवकाई की सफलता केवल उसके पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और आज्ञाकारिता में कार्य करने के द्वारा थी, और कोई भी उस सफलता का श्रेय, उसकी वाक्पटुता या बुद्धि-ज्ञान को नहीं दे सकता है।

    एक बार फिर से यह हमारे सामने इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि जब परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उस से व्यवहार परमेश्वर के मार्गदर्शन और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में किया जाता है, परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपी गयी सेवकाई पर केन्द्रित कर के किया जाता है, तो परिणाम किसी की भी कल्पना या विचारों से कहीं बढ़कर होते हैं। न तो वचन अथवा ज्ञान की उत्तमता, और न ही कोई अन्य योग्यता, वरन परमेश्वर को पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी रहना ही परमेश्वर को महिमा देने वाली एक सफल सेवकाई की आवश्यकताएँ हैं।

    In the previous article, while considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, as an example of how Paul utilized and handled God’s Word in his God given ministry, we had seen that both he and his co-worker, Apollos fully depended upon God, and whatever Word God gave them, they used that, supplementing each-other’s ministry. Neither of them resorted to their own wisdom, knowledge, and abilities for doing God’s work; nor was Paul ever daunted by his not being an eloquent orator. They totally depended upon God for every aspect of their ministry, and that is why they were so successful and fruitful for the Lord. The lesson we learnt was that in utilizing and handling God’s Word for our God assigned ministries, we too need to totally depend upon God, follow His guidance and instructions. Then, God will use us, bless us, and give us eternal rewards, despite any inabilities or weaknesses we may be having. Today we will look at the subjects of Paul’s ministry.

    Paul says at the end of 1 Corinthians 2:4 that his speech and preaching were a “demonstration of the Spirit and power.” But in the immediately preceding verse, he says “I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling” (1 Corinthians 2:3). This is not a contradiction, but mention of the two states that Paul was in in his ministry in Corinth (Acts 18:1-18). Physically, Paul was weak, afraid, even trembling with fear; the probable cause was the growing opposition and threats of physical violence from the Jews (Acts 18:12-18), and God had to strengthen him (Acts 18:9). This was something like what Elijah experienced at the hands of Jezebel, after killing the prophets of Bal (1 Kings 19:1-9). But spiritually, in his preaching, he demonstrated his ministering under the Spirit of God, and in power, through the contents of his preaching.

    We have seen, and it has been stated many times that Paul’s God assigned ministry, primarily was preaching the gospel, and that too amongst the Gentiles. But God had also given him other gifts, e.g., of doing various miracles and wonders, of healing, of casting out demons, and even of raising the dead back to life (Acts 16:18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:8). Paul had also been given the gift of understanding mysteries that had been kept hidden till then (1 Corinthians 2:7; 4:1; Ephesians 3:3-4). But Paul reminds the Corinthian Church, that when came to them, he did not show-off any of these gifts, but just preached that which God had given him for them – the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Therefore, he says in 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” In other words, in Corinth, God wanted him to preach about the Lord Jesus Christ; and Him being crucified. As we have seen earlier, Paul ministered in Corinth for about one and a half years (Acts 18:11), teaching the Word of God.

    Here we need to keep something about the city of Corinth in mind. At the time Paul ministered in Corinth, it was a very prominent city of Greece, and a very prominent place of commerce. Because of this, many people from all over used to travel through Corinth, and it had developed an idolatrous and morally a very degraded culture. In such a place, Paul preached the Word of God, about Lord Jesus and His crucifixion, not with excellence of speech or wisdom, but in simple straightforward language, and still was able to establish a Church there, and gained such a following that the Jews there became jealous and became his enemies (Acts 18:6, 12). If Paul had been a good orator, or been able to show-off his knowledge, it could be said that his results were because of these abilities; but he did not have these abilities. Therefore, what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 is affirmed by Paul’s results in Corinth. The success of his ministry was only because of his working under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, and no one could attribute it to either his eloquence or wisdom.

    This once again affirms to us that when God’s Word is utilized and handled under the guidance and obedience of God, focused on the God assigned ministry, the results can far exceed anything we can think of or imagine. Not excellence of speech and wisdom, or any other human ability, but submission and obedience to God are the requisites of an effective ministry that glorifies God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    प्रेरित पौलुस से परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग करने, उससे व्यवहार करना सीखने के लिए हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 को देख रहे हैं। हम ने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि यद्यपि पौलुस बड़ी प्रभावी पत्रियाँ लिख सकता था, लेकिन वह एक प्रभावी वक्ता के रूप में नहीं जाना जाता था। लेकिन इसके कारण उसने अपने आप को कभी किसी रीति से सीमित नहीं समझा, और उसकी इस अयोग्यता के बावजूद, परमेश्वर ने उसे बहुत सामर्थी रीति से उपयोग किया, क्योंकि वह हमेशा ही परमेश्वर को पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी रहता था। परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग करने, उस से व्यवहार करने में हमेशा ही पौलुस का उद्देश्य कभी भी अपने लिए कोई महिमा अथवा प्रशंसा प्राप्त करना नहीं होता था, किन्तु परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दी गई सेवकाई द्वारा सारी महिमा परमेश्वर ही को देना होता था। पिछले लेख में हमने पौलुस द्वारा अपनी सेवकाई में अपनी ही बुद्धि के उपयोग के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया था, और आज उसे ही ज़ारी रखेंगे।

    यद्यपि पौलुस यहूदियों के पवित्र शास्त्र, हमारे पुराने नियम, को बहुत अच्छे से जानता था, किन्तु उसके श्रोता, गैर-यहूदी या अन्यजाति, जिनके बीच परमेश्वर ने उसे सेवकाई सौंपी थी, उस पवित्र शास्त्र को नहीं जानते थे। इसलिए पौलुस के पास कोई तरीका ही नहीं था कि वह उनके मध्य पवित्र शास्त्र के बारे में अपने ज्ञान, बुद्धि, और समझ को प्रदर्शित कर सके। उन लोगों को उस सुसमाचार, उस सन्देश को बताने और समझाने के लिए, जो सन्देश परमेश्वर उन लोगों को देना चाहता था, पौलुस को पहले उसे परमेश्वर से प्राप्त करना होता था, और तब ही वह उसे उन लोगों को देने पाता था, और वह यही किया करता था (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:1-2)। इस तरह, हम देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर ने पौलुस और उसकी सेवकाई के लिए बातों को इस तरह से नियोजित किया था, कि शैतान किसी भी प्रकार से उसे अपने चंगुल में फंसा कर उसे और उस के ज्ञान, बुद्धि, समझ को, औरों के लिए तथा स्वयं उसके लिए भी ठोकर का कारण नहीं बना सकता था। और पौलुस इसके बारे में बहुत स्पष्ट था, वह खुल कर मान लेता है कि उसका प्रचार उसके अपने किसी ज्ञान-बुद्धि अथवा योग्यता के द्वारा नहीं था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:1, 4)। क्योंकि पौलुस केवल वही प्रचार करता और सिखाता था जो उसे प्रभु से प्राप्त होता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23), इसी लिए वह बड़े आधिकारिक तौर से, निःसंकोच होकर, अपने सन्देश को सभी को दे सकता था, बिना कभी भी किसी के भी द्वारा किसी भी प्रकार से गलत ठहराए जाने या किसी त्रुटि में होने के कहे जाने भय के; और न ही कोई उस पर वचन के दुरुपयोग का कभी दोष लगा सकता था।

    पौलुस ने इसी बात को कुछ भिन्न शब्दों में, इससे अगले अध्याय में, अर्थात 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:5-8 में भी कहा; यहाँ पर वह परमेश्वर के वचन के बोए जाने को कहने के लिए बीज बोने के रूपक का उपयोग करता है। यहाँ, वह पद 5 में कहता है कि उसे और अपुल्लोस को बीज, अर्थात वह वचन जो उन्हें बोना था, वह परमेश्वर ही ने दिया; फिर पद 6 में वह कहता है कि परमेश्वर ने जो दिया था, उसे उसने बोया, और अपुल्लोस ने उसे सींचा, लेकिन उसे बढ़ाने वाला, अर्थात, उसे उगाने और उसमें फल लाने वाला परमेश्वर ही था। इसीलिए, वह पद 7-8 में सारा श्रेय परमेश्वर को देता है, अपने लिए अथवा अपने सहकर्मी अपुल्लोस के लेने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं रख छोड़ता है।

    कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी अपनी दूसरी पत्री के समापन की ओर आते हुए, 2 कुरिन्थियों 9:10 में, पौलुस इसी रूपक का उपयोग करते हुए परमेश्वर को “बोने वाले को बीज” देने वाला बताता है। अर्थात, परमेश्वर ही है जो बीज, यानी कि अपना वचन उन्हें देता है जो सेवकों के समान उसे समर्पित हो जाते हैं; उन्हें जो अपने ही ‘बीजों’ को बोने और सींचने वाले नहीं, वरन परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए गए ‘बीज’ बोने और सींचने वाले होते हैं। और तब परमेश्वर अपने बीज को बढ़ाता है, अर्थात अपने बीज से फल और फसल देता है; जो मनुष्य की बुद्धि और ज्ञान के ‘बीज’ के साथ हो पाना संभव नहीं है। यह सम्पूर्ण प्रक्रिया, बीज प्राप्त करने से लेकर फसल प्राप्त करने तक, पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर ही निर्भर है। यदि कोई प्रभु के लिए एक पूर्णतः समर्पित और केवल उसी का आज्ञाकारी सेवक, जैसा कि पौलुस था, बनने के लिए तैयार है, तो परमेश्वर न केवल उन्हें उपयुक्त संसाधन, अर्थात समय, स्थान, और आवश्यकता के अनुसार लोगों के लिए उपयुक्त वचन उपलब्ध करवाएगा, जिसे उन लोगों के मध्य दिए जाने की आवश्यकता है, और सेवकों से उन संसाधनों का सही उपयोग भी करवाएगा, वरन उनके प्रयासों पर आशीष और उनके कार्य के लिए प्रतिफल भी देगा (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:8)। अब, जब सभी कुछ परमेश्वर से ही है, और लाभांश स्वर्गीय तथा अनन्तकालीन हैं, तो फिर नश्वर मानवीय सोच, ज्ञान, और बुद्धि की कोई आवश्यकता या महत्व रह ही नहीं जाता है।

    इसलिए परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के सर्वोत्तम परिणामों के लिए, हमें वही और वैसा ही करना चाहिए जैसा पौलुस ने किया – परमेश्वर से पूछें, उसी पर निर्भर रहें, उसे आप को बता लेने दें कि कहाँ पर, कब, कैसे, और क्या कहना है। तब परमेश्वर का वचन कभी निष्फल नहीं जाएगा, वरन जिस काम के लिए भेजा गया है उसे करेगा (यशायाह 55:11); और अपने समय था तरीके से परमेश्वर न केवल आशीष देगा, वरन अनन्तकालीन प्रतिफल भी देगा। किन्तु यदि हम कार्यों को अपनी समझ और बुद्धि से, अपने तरीकों से करने लग जाएँगे, तो वह व्यर्थ या निष्फल परिश्रम ठहरेगा जो आशीष और प्रतिफल नहीं बल्कि परेशानियाँ लाएगा। अगले लेख में हम उन विषयों को देखेंगे जिन्हें पौलुस ने अपनी सेवकाई में, वचन के उपयोग तथा उस के साथ व्यवहार के लिए प्रयोग किया।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 8

 

    In learning from the Apostle Paul about utilizing and handling God’s Word, we have been considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5. We saw in the previous article that though Paul could write impressive letters, yet he was not known to be an impressive speaker. But he never felt handicapped because of this, and despite this inability, God used him mightily, since he always remained fully surrendered and obedient to God. Paul’s aim in utilizing and handling God’s Word was never to gain any glory or appreciation for himself, but to give God all the glory through his ministry, that had been entrusted to him by God. We had started to consider about Paul’s wisdom and in the previous article, and will carry on with it today.

    Though Paul was very well versed in the Scriptures of the Jews, i.e., our Old Testament, but his audience, the Gentiles, amongst whom God had appointed him his ministry were not. Therefore, Paul could not in any way show-off his knowledge and his wisdom of those Scriptures to them. To convey and make them understand the gospel, the message that God wanted him to deliver to the Gentiles, Paul had to first receive it from God, and then pass it on, and that is what he used to do (1 Thessalonians 4:1-2). Hence, we see that God had so arranged things for Paul and his ministry, that there was no way that Satan could manipulate and turn his wisdom into becoming a stumbling block for him and others. And Paul is very frank about this, he openly admits that his preaching was not with any of his wisdom or ability of his own (1 Corinthians 2:1, 4). Because Paul preached and taught only what he received from the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:23), therefore, he could very authoritatively, unhesitatingly present his message to everyone, without fear of ever being proven wrong, or in error, in any manner; and no one could accuse him of misusing God’s Word in any manner.

    Paul says the same in different words, in the next chapter, i.e., in 1 Corinthians 3:5-8, where he uses the analogy of sowing seed to illustrate his sowing God’s Word. Here, in v. 5 he says God gave to him and Apollos, the seed, i.e., the Word they had to sow; then in v. 6, he says that he planted what God had given, and Apollos watered or nurtured that seed, but the increase, i.e., its growing and bringing fruit was from God. Therefore, in v. 7-8 he gives the entire credit to God, keeping nothing for himself or his colleague, Apollos.

    Paul uses the same analogy as he concludes his second letter to the Corinthians, in 2 Corinthians 9:10, naming God as the one who “supplies seed to the sower.” So, it is God who provides the seed, i.e., His Word, to those who submit to Him as His laborers, i.e., those willing to plant and water not their own, but the seed provided by Him; and then God gives the increase from His seed, i.e., the fruit or the harvest through His Word, and not through words of man’s wisdom. The whole process, from receiving the seed to receiving the harvest is totally dependent upon God. If one is willing to be a fully surrendered and completely obedient only to the Lord type of laborer, like Paul was, then, God will not only provide the appropriate resources to them, i.e., His appropriate Word for the time, place, and need, of the people amongst whom it has to be used, and have them use His resources appropriately, but will also bless their efforts and eventually reward them for their labor (1 Corinthians 2:8). When everything is from God, and the returns are heavenly and eternal, then there is no need or scope of any temporal human wisdom.

    Therefore, to get the best results for utilizing and handling God’s Word, we need to do it in the manner Paul used to do it – ask God, depend upon Him, let Him tell you what to share, where, when, and how. Then, God’s Word will never go vain but accomplish what it was sent for (Isaiah 55:11); and in His time and manner, God will not only give blessings, but will also give eternal rewards. But if we start doing things our own way, according to our own wisdom, then it will be a vain labor that will create problems instead of any blessings and rewards. In the next article we will consider the subjects of Paul’s utilizing and handling God’s Word, in his ministry.

    प्रेरित पौलुस के जीवन और उदाहरणों से परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग तथा उसके साथ व्यवहार करने को सीखते हुए, हमने पिछले लेख से 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 से देखना आरम्भ किया है, और साथ ही हमने बहुत संक्षिप्त में पूरे 2 अध्याय को भी देखा था, कि यह पूरा अध्याय परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार के बारे में है। फिर हमने पद 4 को लिया था, और देखा था कि पौलुस इस पद का आरम्भ दो दावे करने के साथ करता है, पहला यह कि पौलुस अपने श्रोताओं पर कभी भी अपनी बुद्धि, या ज्ञान, और या सेवकाई से मिलने वाले स्तर, आदि, के द्वारा कोई प्रभाव नहीं जमाता था; और दूसरा यह कि उसकी सेवकाई तथा उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग, दोनों ही किसी भी रीति से कोई भी महिमा लेने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि परमेश्वर को महिमा देने के उद्देश्य पर केन्द्रित थे। उसके बाद हमने पौलुस के पहले दावे, अपने श्रोताओं पर प्रभाव जमाने के प्रयास न करने, से सम्बन्धित कुछ बातों को देखा था। आज हम इस पद में पौलुस के इसी पहले दावे के बारे में कुछ और आगे देखना ज़ारी रखेंगे।

    पद 4 में किया गया पौलुस का दावा, उसने जो इससे पहले के तीन पदों में कहा है, उसका निष्कर्ष है। कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को सुसमाचार प्रस्तुत करते हुए, उसने उन्हें अपनी वाक्पटुता अथवा प्रभावी शब्दों, शैली, और व्यवहार द्वारा लुभाने का प्रयास नहीं किया; और न ही किसी अन्य रीति से उन्हें सुसमाचार सन्देश को स्वीकार करवाने का प्रयास किया। यह निश्चित करने के लिए कि ऐसा ही हो, वह इस अध्याय के पहले तीन पदों में वह अपनी उस कार्यविधि की रूपरेखा देता है, जो उसने वास्तव में किया। पौलुस की यह कार्यविधि उस से जो कि संसार की सामान्य रीति, श्रोताओं को प्रभावित करके अपने अनुयायियों को एकत्रित करने के प्रयासों एवं व्यवहार से बिलकुल भिन्न है। पौलुस 2:1 में कहता है कि उसके द्वारा सुसमाचार का दिया जाना न तो वाक्पटुता के साथ था और न ही ज्ञान की उत्तमता के साथ। कलीसियाओं में पौलुस इस बात के लिए जाना जाता था कि यद्यपि वह पत्र लिखने में तो बहुत अच्छे और प्रभावी लिखता था, लेकिन प्रत्यक्ष में वह एक अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था, बल्कि एक बहुत अप्रभावी वक्ता था (2 कुरिन्थियों 10:1, 10)। लेकिन पौलुस ने कभी इस बात को एक कमजोरी के समान न तो देखा और न ही बनने दिया, और न ही कभी इसे सुधारने या बदलने का प्रयास किया। वह जैसा भी था, परमेश्वर के वचन और सन्देश को लोगों के मध्य जिस भी तरह से प्रस्तुत कर सकता था, उसने वह बिना किसी हिचकिचाहट के, बिना अपने आप को अपनी किसी कमजोरी के कारण सीमित समझे हुए किया। क्योंकि उसने अपने आप को परमेश्वर को समर्पित कर दिया था, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में चलता था, परमेश्वर के हाथों में छोड़ दिया था, इसीलिए परमेश्वर ने उसे जैसा भी वह था, वैसे ही बहुत सामर्थ्य के साथ उपयोग किया, चाहे वह एक उत्तम वक्ता नहीं भी था। पौलुस तब भी सभी अन्य उत्तम समझे जाने वाले वक्ताओं और वाक्पटुता दिखाने वाले प्रचारकों से बढ़कर परमेश्वर के लिए उपयोगी था, और आज भी है।

    दूसरी बात जो पौलुस दोनों, पद 4 और 1 में कहता है, वह है कि उसने परमेश्वर के वचन और सन्देश को देने के लिए अपनी बुद्धि का सहारा नहीं लिया। इसे समझने के लिए, हमें पौलुस और उसकी सेवकाई से सम्बन्धित दो आधारभूत तथ्य, जिन्हें हम पहले भी कुछ बार देख चुके हैं, ध्यान में रखने चाहिए। पहला, दमिश्क के मार्ग पर प्रभु यीशु के साथ साक्षात्कार और उसके जीवन परिवर्तन होने से पहले वह एक बहुत शिक्षित फरीसी था, जिसने अपने समय के सुविख्यात शिक्षक गमलीएल से शिक्षा पाई थी, और उस समय के पवित्र शास्त्र – हमारे आज के पुराने नियम को बहुत अच्छे से जानता था। दूसरा, परमेश्वर ने पौलुस को अन्यजातियों में, तथा पतरस को यहूदियों में सेवकाई के लिए नियुक्त किया था (गलातियों 2:7)। मानवीय समझ और बुद्धि से यह बिलकुल तर्कहीन और मूर्खतापूर्ण लगता है – एक शिक्षित और प्रशिक्षित फरीसी को जो पवित्र-शास्त्र का अच्छा ज्ञाता है, अन्यजातियों में भेजा जाए; और एक अनपढ़ मछुआरे यहूदी को पढ़े-लिखे यहूदी अगुवों, पवित्र-शास्त्र के ज्ञाताओं, और अन्य यहूदियों में भेजा जाए। किन्तु परमेश्वर की बुद्धि-समझ तथा कार्य-विधि के अंतर्गत यह अपने दोनों सेवकों को शैतान की युक्तियों से सुरक्षित बनाए रखने के लिए एक अति-उत्तम कार्यविधि थी। क्योंकि, अब इस स्थित में, दोनों, पौलुस और पतरस को अपने-अपने श्रोताओं को संबोधित करने के लिए अपनी योग्यताओं और बुद्धि पर नहीं बल्कि पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर ही निर्भर रहना था; और ऐसे में फिर शैतान उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार के लिए बहका या भरमा नहीं सकता था।

    हम इसे अगले लेख में और आगे देखेंगे। लेकिन परमेश्वर के वचन से व्यवहार और उसके सन्देश को औरों तक पहुँचाने के बारे में हमने अभी तक जो देखा है, वह है कि हमें कोई उत्तम वक्ता अथवा वाक्पटुता से प्रचार करने वाला होने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है; हम जैसे भी हैं, हमारी जो भी योग्यताएं अथवा योग्यताएँ हैं, प्रभु हमें वैसा ही अपने लिए उपयोग कर सकता है । यदि हम प्रभु पर निर्भर रहें और उसके मार्गदर्शन तथा आज्ञाकारिता में अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों का निर्वाह करें, उसके वचन को सीधे, साधारण, समझने में सरल शब्दों और वाक्यों में प्रस्तुत करें, तो हम प्रभु के लिए बहुत प्रभावी एवं उपयोगी हो सकते हैं। परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार का उद्देश्य अपनी महिमा करवाना नहीं, बल्कि परमेश्वर की महिमा करना है; लोगों पर प्रभाव जमाना नहीं, वरन उन्हें उनके पापों के लिए कायल करके उनके लिए पश्चाताप करने, तथा परमेश्वर से उनके लिए क्षमा मांगने, उद्धार के लिए प्रभु यीशु पर विश्वास करने तक लेकर आना है।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 7

 

    In learning to utilize and handle God’s Word through the life and example of the Apostle Paul, in the previous article, we began considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, and very briefly saw that actually the whole of chapter 2 has to do with handling God’s Word. We then took up verse 4, and saw that Paul makes two assertions at the beginning of the verse, firstly that Paul refrained from impressing his audience by either by his wisdom, or, knowledge, or, status attained through his ministry, etc.; and secondly, his ministry and handling of God’s Word were centered not on receiving any glory in any manner, but on giving glory to God. We then saw some things related to his first claim, of avoiding impressing his audience in any manner. Today, we will continue with Paul’s first claim in this verse.

    Paul’s claim in verse 4 here is the culmination, of what he has said in the preceding three verses. In presenting the gospel to the Corinthians, he did not try to persuade them to accept the gospel because of Paul’s eloquence and persuasion through impressive words and mannerisms. To make sure this happened, he outlines his way or working in the first three verses of this chapter, stating what he actually did. Paul’s way of working was much different from the conventional worldly way of trying to impress the audience and gain a following. Paul says in 2:1 that his presentation of the gospel was neither with excellence of speech nor through any wisdom. Amongst the Churches, it was known about Paul that though he was great in writing impressive letters, but face-to-face he was not a good speaker, rather, he was a poor speaker (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10). But Paul never saw that as a handicap nor did he ever allow it to become a handicap, and he never tried to change this either. Whatever he was, however he could present God’s Word and message to the people, he did so without any hesitation or feeling tied down by any of his inabilities. Since he made himself obedient and surrendered to God, left himself in God’s hands, therefore God used him mightily just as he was, despite his lack of eloquence. Paul was, and still is far more effective for the Lord, than any of the more eloquent speakers.

    The second thing Paul says in both verses, 4 and 1, is that he did not use his wisdom to present the Word and message of God. To understand this, we ought to keep in mind two of the basic facts related to Paul and his ministry, and both have been stated earlier a couple of times. Firstly, before his encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus and his conversion, he was a learned Pharisee, trained under Gamaliel, a renowned teacher of that time, and well versed in the Scriptures of that time – our present-day Old Testament. Secondly, God had appointed Paul to serve amongst the Gentiles whereas God appointed Peter to serve amongst the Jews (Galatians 2:7). While to human thinking this seems absolutely illogical and absurd – a learned Pharisee, well versed in the Scriptures, being sent to the Gentiles; and an unlearned Jewish fisherman being sent to the learned Jewish leaders, those well versed in the Scriptures, and other Jews, but in God’s wisdom and way of doing things, it was a master-stroke to keep both His ministers safe from the wiles of the devil. For, both Paul and Peter had to depend upon God to help them address their respective audience, neither could do so through his own wisdom and abilities; and thus, Satan could not mislead them in preaching God’s Word.

    We will consider this further in the next article. But what we have learnt so far about handling God’s Word and conveying God’s message to people is that we need not be eloquent, or a good orator to do so; the Lord can use us for His purposes just as we are, whatever be our abilities or inabilities. We can be very effective for the Lord if we just rely on Him and fulfill our responsibilities under the guidance and obedience of God, and present His Word in simple, straightforward, easy to understand words and sentences. The purpose of utilizing and handling God’s Word is not bringing glory to self, but glory to God; not impressing people, but bringing them to the realization and repentance of their sins, asking God’s forgiveness for them and believing in the Lord Jesus for salvation.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
