मसीही जीवन के चार स्तम्भ - 4 - प्रार्थना (33) 

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के उदाहरणों और हवालों के आधार पर हम व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित बातों के मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह के बारे में देख, सीख, और समझ रहे हैं; यह जानने के लिए कि आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी इन बातों को किस तरह से जानते, समझते, और पालन करत थे। हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातें हमें वैसे तो सम्पूर्ण बाइबल में स्थान-स्थान पर दी गई हैं; लेकिन प्रेरितों 2 और 15 अध्याय में लिखी गई बातों के साथ यह भी लिखा गया है कि उनके पालन से मसीही विश्वासी सँख्या में, तथा अपने आत्मिक जीवन और मसीही विश्वास में बढ़ते चले गए, और साथ ही कलीसियाएं भी बढ़ती चली गईं। इसलिए हमने प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में दी गई व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित सात बातों को देखना आरम्भ किया। इन सात में से पहली तीन बातें, प्रेरित पतरस के भक्त यहूदियों को किए गए प्रचार के अन्त की ओर प्रेरितों 2:38-41 में मिलती हैं। ये तीनों बातें मसीही विश्वास में आने और मसीही विश्वास का जीवन आरम्भ करने से सम्बन्धित हैं। शेष चार बातें प्रेरितों 2:42 में मिलती हैं; और जैसा कि इस पद में लिखा है, ये वे बातें हैं जिनका पालन आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर किया करते थे। परिणामस्वरूप, वे मसीही विश्वास में दृढ़ और स्थिर होते चले गए, सँख्या में बढ़ते गए, और कलीसियाएं भी बढ़ती चली गईं। यहाँ दी गई इन चार बातों को आज के मसीही भी मानते और पूरा करते हैं, किन्तु वे इन्हें एक रीति के समान लेते हैं, और औपचारिकता पूरी करने के लिए निभाते हैं; इसलिए ये बातें उनके जीवन में प्रभावी नहीं हैं, पहली कलीसिया के विश्वासियों के समान जीवनों में परिवर्तन और सामर्थ्य नहीं ला रही हैं। इन चार में से पहली तीन बातों को देख लेने के बाद, अब हम चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने के बारे में देख रहे हैं, तथा मत्ती 6:5-15 से हम तथाकथित “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” के बारे में देख रहे हैं। इन पदों से हमने देखा है कि प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को सिखाया कि वे तीन मुख्य बातों का निर्वाह के बारे में परमेश्वर पिता से माँगें; पद 11, परमेश्वर पर पूर्णतः निर्भर रहना; पद 12, प्रभु परमेश्वर के समान औरों को हर कीमत पर सच्चे मन से क्षमा करने वाले होना; पद 13, में परीक्षा में न पड़ने और बुराई से बचे रहने को परमेश्वर से माँगना। हम इन तीन में से पहली दो बातों को देख चुके हैं, और आज पद 13 में परीक्षा और बुराई से सम्बन्धित बात को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

 

यहाँ, मत्ती 6:13 में लिखा है “और हमें परीक्षा में न ला, परन्तु बुराई से बचा; क्योंकि राज्य और पराक्रम और महिमा सदा तेरे ही हैं।” आमीन।” इस पद को पढ़ने से यही आभास होता है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेता है, और उसमें वह बुराई का भी प्रयोग कर सकता है। आरम्भिक लेखों में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन की गलत व्याख्या करने, गलत समझ रखने का सबसे सामान्य कारण है किसी भी बात को उसके सन्दर्भ से बाहर लेकर उसकी व्याख्या करना, और धारणा बनाना। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि सन्दर्भ दो तरह के होते हैं, तात्कालिक - अर्थात उसके आगे-पीछे के अन्य पद और खण्ड; तथा दूर के - अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई सम्बन्धित बातें। जो भी व्याख्या किसी भी सन्दर्भ में सही नहीं बैठती है, सन्दर्भ से असंगत रहती है, वह गलत है, अस्वीकार्य है। इसी बात को ध्यान में रखते हुए हम मत्ती के इस पद पर विचार करने से पहले, आज हम परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लिए जाने, और उस सन्दर्भ में बुराई का प्रयोग करने के बारे में परमेश्वर के वचन से कुछ बातों को देख और समझ लेते हैं, ताकि हम किसी गलतफहमी में पड़कर कोई गलत व्याख्या न करें, कोई अनुचित धारणा न बना लें।

 

बाइबल यह बहुत स्पष्ट दिखाती है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेता है; नीतिवचन 17:3 में लिखा है कि यहोवा अपने लोगों के मनों को जाँचता है। हम उत्पत्ति 22:1 और इब्रानियों 11:17 में देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर ने इसहाक के सन्दर्भ में अब्राहम की परीक्षा ली; परमेश्वर ने मिस्र के दासत्व से निकल कर कनान जा रहे इस्राएलियों की परीक्षा ली (निर्गमन 15:25; 16:4; व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:2, 16); उन्हें कनान देश में बसाने के बाद भी इस्राएलियों की परीक्षा ली (न्यायियों 3:4); उसने राजा हिजकिय्याह की परीक्षा ली (2 इतिहास 32:31); परमेश्वर मसीही विश्वासियों के विश्वास की वास्तविकता की परीक्षा लेता है (यूहन्ना 6:6; याकूब 1:3; 1 पतरस 1:7), आदि। इन सभी, तथा वचन में दिए गए अन्य हवालों से हम देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों के उसके प्रति विश्वास की, उसकी बातों के प्रति उनकी आज्ञाकारिता की, और उसके प्रति उनकी मनसा की वास्तविकता की परीक्षा लेता है। ऐसा नहीं है कि परमेश्वर लोगों के विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की वास्तविक दशा को, वास्तविक स्थिति को जानता नहीं है। 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:13 में लिखा है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को उनकी सामर्थ्य से बाहर किसी परीक्षा में पड़ने नहीं देता है, वरन परीक्षा के साथ निकास भी करता है। परमेश्वर तब ही किसी व्यक्ति की सामर्थ्य और क्षमता की सीमा के अन्दर परीक्षा ले सकता है, जब उसे उसकी परीक्षा सहने की क्षमता और सीमा पहले से ही पता होगी; अन्यथा यह पद गलत हो जाएगा। मसीही विश्वासियों की सामर्थ्य और क्षमता की सीमा जानते हुए भी परमेश्वर उन्हें परीक्षा में जाने देने के द्वारा उनके विश्वास और आज्ञाकारिता की दशा उनपर प्रकट करता है, ताकि वे अपने विश्वास और आज्ञाकारिता की स्थिति से अवगत होकर, उचित कदम उठाएं और अपने आप को सुधारें। जो परीक्षा में स्थिर रहता है, वह परमेश्वर से बहुत बड़ा प्रतिफल भी पाता है (याकूब 1:12)।

  

किन्तु परमेश्वर द्वारा इस परीक्षा के लिए जाने के साथ एक अन्य बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी जुड़ी हुई है, जिसे हमें ध्यान रखना भी आवश्यक है, और जो याकूब 1:।3 में लिखा है “जब किसी की परीक्षा हो, तो वह यह न कहे, कि मेरी परीक्षा परमेश्वर की ओर से होती है; क्योंकि न तो बुरी बातों से परमेश्वर की परीक्षा हो सकती है, और न वह किसी की परीक्षा आप करता है।” परमेश्वर परीक्षा अवश्य लेता है, किन्तु कभी भी बुराई से किसी की परीक्षा नहीं लेता है। यहाँ पर शब्द “बुराई” को समझना आवश्यक है। जिस मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द का अनुवाद यहाँ पर “बुराई” किया गया है वह दुष्टता, बुरे स्वभाव या विचार, या वह जो परमेश्वर से सुसंगत नहीं है के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है, न कि उसके लिए जो हमें अच्छा न लगे या पसन्द न आए। अर्थात ऐसी बातें जो परमेश्वर से नहीं वरन शैतान से सम्बन्धित हैं। अर्थात इस पद के अर्थ को हम अपने शब्दों में कुछ इस प्रकार भी व्यक्त कर सकते हैं - न तो शैतानी बातों से परमेश्वर की परीक्षा होती है, और ना ही वह ऐसी किसी भी बात से किसी की परीक्षा लेता है।

 

अगले लेख में मत्ती 6:13 को समझने के लिए, हम परीक्षा और बुराई के इन अर्थों का उपयोग करेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Things Related to Christian Living – 91

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (33)

We have been looking at the original form and observance of things related to practical Christian living from the examples and references of God’s Word the Bible, to learn and understand how the initial Christian Believers used to knew, understood, and followed them. We have seen in the earlier articles that although we find things related to practical Christian living given throughout the Bible, but in the things written in Acts chapters 2 and 15, it has also been said that by obeying them the Christian Believers increased in their numbers, in their spiritual lives and Christian faith, and the churches also continued to grow. Therefore, we have begun by looking at the seven things related to practical Christian living, given in Acts chapter 2. Of these seven things, the first three are related to coming into the Christian faith, and are found towards the end of Peter’s sermon to the devout Jews, in Acts 2:38-41. The remaining four things are given in Acts 2:42; and as is written in this verse, the initial Christian Believers observed them steadfastly. Consequently, they continued to grow and be established in their Christian faith, continued to increase in numbers, and the churches also grew. The four things given here are also followed by the Christians today, but as a ritual, to fulfill a formality. Therefore, these four are not bringing the changes and power, and are not effective in their Christian lives, as they were in the lives of the initial Christians. Having considered the first three of these four, we are now considering about the fourth, i.e., prayer; and from Matthew 6:5-15 are considering about the so-called “Lord’s Prayer.” From these verses we have seen that the Lord taught His disciples to pray and ask God the Father mainly for three things; verse 11, to be fully dependent on God; verse 12, like the Lord God be those who forgive others truly from the heart; verse 13, to ask being kept safe from temptations and evil. Of these three, we have seen the first two, and today will begin to consider from verse 13 about being kept safe from being tempted and evil.

Here, in Matthew 6:13 it is written “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” The impression one gets on reading this verse is that God tempts or tests His people, and for this, He can use evil also. In the earlier articles we had seen that the commonest reason for wrong interpretations and having wrong understandings of Biblical texts is taking them out of their context, and forming concepts. We had also seen that contexts are of two kinds, the immediate - i.e., the verses given before and after the verse under consideration; and remote - i.e., the related things given at other places in God’s Word. Any interpretation that is inconsistent with any of the contexts, is wrong, is unacceptable. Keeping this in mind, today, before beginning to consider this verse from Matthew, we will see and understand about God testing or tempting His people and about evil in this context, so that we do not fall into any misunderstandings, and form any wrong concepts.

The Bible shows very clearly that God does test His people. It says in Proverbs 17:3 that the Lord tests the hearts. We see from Genesis 22:1 and Hebrews 11:17 that God tested Abraham about Issac; God tested the Israelites coming out of slavery from Egypt and journeying to Canaan (Exodus 15:25; 16:4; Deuteronomy 8:2, 16); even after settling them in Canaan, God tested them (Judges 3:4); He tested King Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 32:31); God tests the faith of the Christian Believers (John 6:6; James 1:3; 1 Peter 1:7), etc. In all of these, and in the other references given in the Word, we see that God tests His people for their faith, for their obedience, their hearts towards Him. He does not do it because He does not know the true state of the people’s faith, obedience, and hearts towards Him. It is written in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God does not allow His people to be tested or tempted beyond their strength and abilities, and arranges for ways of escape from the temptation. God can test or tempt a person within his strength and capacity, only when He knows about it beforehand; else this verse will become false. Although knowing about the strengths and capabilities of a person, God still allows him to go into temptations and testing to make them aware of the state of their faith and obedience towards Him, so that they take the proper steps to correct themselves. Those that endure the temptations, will receive a great reward from God (James 1:12).

But there is another very important thing associated with being tempted or tested by God, and we need to keep it in mind. It is written in James 1:13 “Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” God surely tests, but never through any evil. Here it is necessary to understand the word “evil.” The word used in the original Greek language, that has been translated as “evil” here is for things that are not consistent with God, are bad or devious, are of devilish nature and thinking; it is not about anything that we do not like or approve and therefore consider it to be ‘bad.’ Therefore, to understand the meaning of this verse, we can express it something like this - neither is God ever tested by satanic or devilish things, nor does He use any such thing to test or tempt anyone.

In the next article, to understand Matthew 6:13, we will use these meanings about being tested or tempted and evil.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि प्रार्थना करना, अर्थात परमेश्वर के साथ वार्तालाप करना, व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन का एक अभिन्न अँग है। यह परमेश्वर की इच्छा तथा आज्ञा है कि उसके लोग हर समय, हर बात के लिए, उसके साथ वार्तालाप करें, ताकि उससे सही मार्गदर्शन पाकर वे शैतान की युक्तियों से सुरक्षित रह सकें। जैसा प्रेरितों 2:42 में दिया गया है, आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी चार बातों में लौलीन रहते थे। उन चार में से चौथी बात प्रार्थना करना है। इन चारों बातों के मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह को हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के उदाहरणों और पदों से देखते और सीखते चले आ रहे हैं। वर्तमान में हम प्रार्थना के बारे में सीखते हुए, मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर हम उस खण्ड पर विचार कर रहे हैं, जिसे सामान्यतः “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” कहा जाता है, और बचपन से ही रट कर मसीहियों द्वारा हर अवसर पर, हर बात के लिए, बिना सोचे-समझे, बोल दिया जाता है। हमने देखा है कि वास्तव में यह कोई प्रार्थना नहीं है, वरन प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को दी गई एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा है, जिसके आधार पर प्रभु के समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों के द्वारा परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाएं बनाई और कही जा सकती हैं। प्रभु द्वारा दी गई इस रूपरेखा में, प्रभु ने परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए तीन बातें सिखाई हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने पद 11 में दी गई इन तीन में से पहली बात, परमेश्वर पर पूर्णतः निर्भर होने के बारे में देखा था। आज हम दूसरी बात, क्षमा करने वाला होना के बारे में सीखेंगे।

मत्ती 6:12, में लिखा है, “और जिस प्रकार हम ने अपने अपराधियों को क्षमा किया है, वैसे ही तू भी हमारे अपराधों को क्षमा कर” (मत्ती 6:12), और इसी से सम्बन्धित पद 14-15 लिखा है, “इसलिये यदि तुम मनुष्य के अपराध क्षमा करोगे, तो तुम्हारा स्‍वर्गीय पिता भी तुम्हें क्षमा करेगा। और यदि तुम मनुष्यों के अपराध क्षमा न करोगे, तो तुम्हारा पिता भी तुम्हारे अपराध क्षमा न करेगा”(मत्ती 6:14-15)। प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को सिखाया है कि क्षमा करने वाला होना, उनके चरित्र का, उनके गुणों का, उनके व्यवहार का एक अभिन्न अँग होना है। उन्हें स्वयं भी परमेश्वर से क्षमा, उनके औरों को क्षमा करने के व्यवहार के अनुसार ही मिलेगी। सम्पूर्ण सुसमाचार का आधार ही क्षमा है। यदि प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए बलिदान और उसके पुनरुत्थान के आधार पर हमें क्षमा नहीं मिली होती, तो परमेश्वर से हमारा मेल-मिलाप और उससे सम्बन्धित अन्य बातों एवं आशीषों का हमें दिया जाना कदापि सम्भव नहीं था। और अभी भी, यदि परमेश्वर हमारे प्रति सहनशील और क्षमा करने वाला नहीं हो, तो हमारा उसके साथ बने रहना सम्भव नहीं है; क्योंकि हमारा शरीर, हमारा पुराना मनुष्यत्व हमें निरन्तर परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध चलने, पाप करने के लिए उकसाता है, कुछ-न-कुछ गलत करवाता रहता है, जैसा पौलुस ने अपने व्यक्तिगत अनुभव के आधार पर रोमियों 7:15-25 में लिखा है। परमेश्वर ने मूसा पर अपने नाम को जैसा प्रकट किया (निर्गमन 34:5-7), उससे हम परमेश्वर के क्षमा करने और विलम्ब से कोप करने वाला होने को सीखते हैं। प्रभु यीशु की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के समय उसकी शिक्षाएं और चंगाइयाँ, उसके द्वारा लोगों को क्षमा करने पर ही आधारित थीं। प्रेरित यूहन्ना ने लिखा, “सो कोई यह कहता है, कि मैं उस में बना रहता हूं, उसे चाहिए कि आप भी वैसा ही चले जैसा वह चलता था” (1 यूहन्ना 2:6)। इसलिए यह प्रकट है कि प्रभु के शिष्यों को भी, प्रभु के समान धैर्य रखने, विलम्ब से कोप करने, और क्षमा करने वाला होना चाहिए। उन्हें प्रभु के इस गुण को अपने व्यावहारिक जीवन में दिखाने वाला होना चाहिए; मत्ती 6:14-15 में प्रभु ने इसी बात पर ज़ोर दिया है।

अब, यह तो सामान्य जानकारी है कि क्षमाशील होना प्रभु परमेश्वर का गुण है, उसकी शिक्षा है, और अपने शिष्यों से उसकी अपेक्षा है। सभी जानते हैं कि मसीहियों को प्रभु के समान क्षमाशील होना है; चाहे शायद ही कोई उसे मानता और पालन करता हो। ध्यान कीजिए, मत्ती 6:11-13 में तीन बातें हैं जो प्रभु के लोगों को पिता परमेश्वर से माँगनी हैं। अर्थात ये तीनों, ऐसी बातें हैं जो स्वाभाविक रीति से मसीहियों के जीवन में नहीं आएंगी; और न ही वे स्वयं किसी भी रीति से, अपने प्रयासों और क्षमता से इन्हें अपने अन्दर उत्पन्न करने और विकसित करने पाएंगे। मसीहियों को ये बातें परमेश्वर से ही मिल सकती हैं; और इसीलिए प्रभु ने शिष्यों को सिखाया कि प्रार्थना में परमेश्वर से इन्हें माँगें। किसी को सच्चे मन से, वास्तविक रीति से क्षमा करना भी इन तीन में से एक गुण है। किन्तु, यहाँ पर, इस क्षमा करने वाला होने के गुण से सम्बन्धित एक ऐसी बात है, जिस पर सामान्यतः ध्यान नहीं दिया जाता है। न केवल इसे लालसा के साथ परमेश्वर से माँगना है, वरन इसे अभ्यास के साथ निज जीवन में विकसित और कार्यकारी भी करना है। पुराने नियम में मूसा, और नए नियम में पौलुस इस बात के उत्तम उदाहरण हैं। मिस्र से जान बचा कर भागने के बाद, परमेश्वर ने मूसा को 40 वर्ष तक मूर्ख भेड़ों की चरवाही करना सौंप दिया। मूसा को सहनशीलता सिखाने, धैर्य और क्षमा के साथ रखवाली करते रहना सिखाने का यह परमेश्वर का तरीका था। चालीस वर्ष के प्रशिक्षण के बाद जब मूसा में वे गुण विकसित और स्थापित हो गए, उसके बाद परमेश्वर ने उसे अपने बलवई, ढीठ, अनाज्ञाकारी, और बात-बात में कुड़कुड़ाने वाले लोगों की देखभाल सौंपी, कि वह उन्हें मिस्र से निकाल कर कनान देश तक लाए। पौलुस का जीवन भी कठिनाइयों, परेशानियों, लोगों के विरोध तथा उसके विरुद्ध कार्य करने, षड्यन्त्र रचने, मसीहियों और कलीसियाओं से धोखे मिलने से भरा हुआ था (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:8-12; 11:23-28)। लेकिन पौलुस ने अपने विरोधियों और सताने वालों के विरोध में कुछ नहीं कहा। न केवल मूसा और पौलुस, वरन परमेश्वर के नबियों को भी अपने ही लोगों से सताव, विरोध, विद्रोह, आदि का सामना करना पड़ा, सहना पड़ा; लेकिन वे अपने सताने वालों के विरुद्ध बिना कुछ कहे, बस परमेश्वर के दिखाए और बताए मार्ग पर चलते रहे, अपनी सेवकाई को करते रहे।

 

यह आज हमारे लिए क्या व्यावहारिक शिक्षा रखता है? प्रभु के शिष्य को क्षमाशील होना है; इसका कोई विकल्प नहीं है। क्षमाशीलता का यह गुण वह स्वयं अपने अन्दर उत्पन्न और विकसित नहीं कर सकता है; उसे यह पिता परमेश्वर से ही मिलेगा, और उसे इसे प्रार्थना में माँगना होगा। इस गुण का मिलना ही काफी नहीं है, इसे विकसित एवं प्रभावी भी करना होता है, तब ही वह मसीही सेवकाई में कार्यकारी होने पाता है। इसे विकसित और प्रभावी करने के प्रशिक्षण के लिए मूसा, पौलुस, और परमेश्वर के अन्य लोगों के समान, कठिन और दुखदायी परिस्थितियों से होकर निकलना पड़ता है। बिना इस प्रशिक्षण के, यह हमारे जीवनों में प्रभावी नहीं होगा, और हम प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी नहीं बनेंगे। अब, इस सन्दर्भ में, अपने सताव के बारे में लिखने के बाद, पौलुस जो बात कहता है, उसपर ध्यान कीजिए “इसलिये हम हियाव नहीं छोड़ते; यद्यपि हमारा बाहरी मनुष्यत्‍व नाश भी होता जाता है, तौभी हमारा भीतरी मनुष्यत्‍व दिन प्रतिदिन नया होता जाता है। क्योंकि हमारा पल भर का हल्का सा क्‍लेश हमारे लिये बहुत ही महत्‍वपूर्ण और अनन्त महिमा उत्पन्न करता जाता है। और हम तो देखी हुई वस्‍तुओं को नहीं परन्तु अनदेखी वस्‍तुओं को देखते रहते हैं, क्योंकि देखी हुई वस्तुएं थोड़े ही दिन की हैं, परन्तु अनदेखी वस्तुएं सदा बनी रहती हैं” (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:16-18)। वह अपने मसीही जीवन भर के घोर क्लेष, सताव, और बैर-विरोध सहते रहने को “पल भर का हल्का सा क्‍लेश” कहता है, जिसके कारण उसे अनन्तकाल के लिए “बहुत ही महत्‍वपूर्ण और अनन्त महिमा उत्पन्न” होती जाती है। और फिर, अपने पृथ्वी के जीवन के अन्त के समय वह बिना किसी डर या दुर्भावना के कह सका “क्योंकि अब मैं अर्घ के समान उंडेला जाता हूं, और मेरे कूच का समय आ पहुंचा है। मैं अच्छी कुश्‍ती लड़ चुका हूं मैं ने अपनी दौड़ पूरी कर ली है, मैं ने विश्वास की रखवाली की है। भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:6-8)।

 

मत्ती 6:12 में दी गई यह ‘प्रार्थना’ उसके रटे हुए स्वरूप में, बिना सोचे-समझे बोल देनी तो बहुत सरल है; किन्तु परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य, सहायता, और मार्गदर्शन के बिना उसका निर्वाह करना सम्भव नहीं है। प्रभु के सच्चे, समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों के लिए भी इस ‘प्रार्थना’ के प्रशिक्षण से होकर निकलना आसान नहीं है। किन्तु जो इसे निभाते हैं, वे अपने अनन्तकाल के लिए कितनी और कैसी आशीषें जमा कर लेते हैं, ये हम वहाँ पहुँच कर ही देख और समझ सकेंगे। अगले लेख में हम प्रभु द्वारा प्रार्थना के लिए दिए गए तीसरे विषय पर विचार करेंगे।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (32)

In the previous articles we have seen that prayer, i.e., conversing with God, is an integral part of practical Christian living. It is God’s will and command that His people converse with Him continually, for everything, to receive His guidance and remain safe from the wiles of the devil. As given in Acts 2:42, the initial Christian Believers used to steadfastly observe four things. The fourth of those four is praying. We have been learning about the original form and observance of these four through the examples and references about them in God’s Word the Bible. Presently, while learning about prayer, on the basis of Matthew 6:5-15 we are looking at a passage which is commonly known as the “Lord’s Prayer,” and the Christians usually memorize it in their childhood, and then keep repeating it by rote on every occasion and for everything, without ever trying to think and understand about it. We have seen that actually it is not a ‘prayer’, it is rather an outline, a framework, based on which the Christians can build their individual prayer to be acceptable to God. In this outline given by the Lord there are three things that the Lord has said should be asked from God. In the previous article, we have seen from verse 11 about being totally dependent upon God. Today we will see the second thing, about being one who forgives others.

It is written in Matthew 6:12 “And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors” and then in the related verses 14-15 it is written “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” The Lord has taught His disciples that to be forgiving towards others is to be an integral part of their character, their attributes, and their behavior. They will receive forgiveness from God in a manner similar to the way they forgive others. The basis of the entire gospel is forgiveness. Had God not forgiven us based on the sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, then we would never have been reconciled with God and would have never received the other related things and blessings from God. And even now, if God is not patient and forgiving towards us, then it will not be possible for us to continue with Him; since our flesh, our old self, continually keeps provoking us to walk contrary to God, commit sin, do something wrong, just as Paul on the basis of His own experiences, writes in Romans 7:15-25. From the way God has revealed His name to Moses (Exodus 34:5-7), from it we learn about the longsuffering and forgiving nature of God. During the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus, His teachings and His healings were based on forgiving people. The Apostle John wrote, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). Therefore, it is evident that the Lord’s disciples, like the Lord, should be patient, longsuffering, and forgiving. They should demonstrate this attribute of the Lord in their lives; in Matthew 6:14-15, the Lord has emphasized upon this.

Now, this is common knowledge that being forgiving is an attribute of the Lord God. Everyone knows that like their Lord, the Christians too should be forgiving; even though hardly anyone actually demonstrates it in their lives. Take note that in Matthew 6:11-13, there are three things given, which the people of God have to ask from God the Father. In other Words, these three are things that do not naturally come into the lives of the Christian Believers; and neither can the Christians, through any efforts or capabilities of their own, create and develop them in their lives. The Christians can only receive these things from God; and that is why the Lord taught to ask God for them. To be able to truly forgive someone in their heart, is also one of these three attributes. But here, associated with this attribute of truly being able to forgive someone from their heart, there is a thing, which is hardly ever given any thought. Not only do we have to sincerely desire and ask for this attribute, but it has to be developed by practicing it, to make it effective in our lives. Moses in the Old Testament, and Paul in the New Testament, are two excellent examples of this. After Moses ran for his life from Egypt, to teach him to be patient, longsuffering, and keep caring with a forgiving heart, God gave him the task of shepherding dumb sheep to train Moses for 40 years. When after forty years of practical training, these attributes developed and got established in Moses, it was then that God gave him the task of delivering His rebellious, stiff-necked, disobedient people who would be murmuring for everything, out of Egypt and take them to Canaan. Paul’s Christian life was also full of difficulties, problems, opposition, people working against him, conspiring against him, and his facing betrayal from the Christian Believers and the churches (2 Corinthians 4:8-12; 11:23-28). But Paul never said anything against those who opposed him and created problems for him. Not just Moses and Paul, but all the prophets of God had to face opposition, problems, rebellions from their own people. But without saying anything against those tormenting them, they just persevered on the way shown and told to them by God, fulfilling their ministry.

What lessons in practical Christian living does this put before us? The disciple of the Lord has to be forgiving, there is no alternative. This attribute of being forgiving cannot be created and developed by anyone within themselves. They will have to pray and ask God for it, and receive it from Him. But it is not enough to just receive this attribute, they will have to develop it and make it effective, only then can it be of use in the life of a Christian. To develop it and make it effective, like for Moses, Paul, and other people of God, one has to pass through difficult and painful circumstances and experiences. Without such training, it will not become effective in our lives, and we will not become useful for the Lord. Now, in this context, please take note of what Paul had to say after writing about the persecutions and problems he had to suffer, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Paul is calling the severe sufferings, persecutions, opposition, hatred, etc. that he suffered throughout his Christian life as “our light affliction, which is but for a moment,” because of which, for eternity he is accumulating “a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” And then, towards the end of his time on earth, without any fear or malice towards anyone, he could say “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

This ‘prayer’ given in Matthew 6:12, in the way it is spoken by rote, without understanding it or paying any attention to it, seems very easy to say; but without God’s strength, submission to Him, help from Him, and His guidance, it is impossible to carry it out. It is not easy even for the true, surrendered, obedient disciples of the Lord to go through the training of this ‘prayer.’ But those who do go through it, how many and what kind of glorious rewards they accumulate for themselves, we will only be able to know once we reach there. In the next article we will consider the third prayer topic that the Lord has given in this ‘prayer.’

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातों के बारे में सीखते हुए, हम प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई चार बातों को, जिनका पालन आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर किया करते थे, परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए उनसे सम्बन्धित पदों और उदाहरणों के आधार पर देख रहे हैं। पहली तीन बातों को देखने के बाद अब हम चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने के बारे में मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर विचार कर रहे हैं। हम देख चुके हैं कि जिसे सामान्यतः “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” कहा जाता है, और जिसे बचपन से ही रट लेने के बाद सामान्यतः मसीही हर अवसर पर और हर बात के लिए, बिना उसके बारे में सोचे-समझे, उस पर विचारे, यूँ ही बोलते रहते हैं, वह वास्तव में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दी गई कोई ‘प्रार्थना’ नहीं है। बल्कि पिता परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाएं बनाने के लिए एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा है। प्रत्येक मसीही को प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए इस ढाँचे के अनुसार अपने आप को, अपने जीवन और व्यवहार को सही करके, उसमें दी गई बातों के आधार पर परमेश्वर के सामने प्रस्तुत करने के लिए अपने निवेदनों को तैयार करना चाहिए। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि किस प्रकार से शैतान ने हमें बहका और भरमा कर, यहाँ पर प्रभु ने जो प्रार्थना के विषय दिए हैं, उन्हें तो नज़रन्दाज़ करवा दिया है। लेकिन इससे थोड़ा सा आगे, मत्ती 6:19-34 में जो बातें परमेश्वर ने स्वतः ही अपने सच्चे, समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी विश्वासियों को उपहार के समान देने के लिए रखी हुई हैं, उन्हें हमारे प्रार्थना के विषय बनवा दिया है। परिणामस्वरूप, हमें न तो प्रार्थना वाली बातें मिलती हैं, और न ही उपहार में मिलने वाली बातें। क्योंकि पहली हम माँगते नहीं हैं, और दूसरी को पाने के लिए जो करना चाहिए उसे करने की बजाए, उनके लिए बस प्रार्थना करते रह जाते हैं। परमेश्वर के वचन को समझने और पालन करने में गलती हमारी है, किन्तु अपेक्षित उत्तर न पाने के लिए हम दोष परमेश्वर पर लगाते हैं, कि वह हमारी सुनता ही नहीं है। जबकि सच तो यह है कि हम उसकी नहीं सुनते हैं, उसके कहे के अनुसार नहीं करते हैं; बल्कि मनुष्यों की कही और गढ़ी हुई बातों में, उनकी सिखाई हुई गलतियों में फंसे और हानि उठाते रहते हैं। आज हम प्रभु द्वारा प्रार्थना में माँगने के लिए जो तीन बातें दी हैं, उनपर विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे।

 

जैसा हमने पहले देखा है, मत्ती 6:11-13a में प्रभु ने तीन बातें बताई हैं, जिन्हें मसीही विश्वासियों को पिता परमेश्वर से माँगना चाहिए। पहली बात, पद 11 में दी गई है, “हमारी दिन भर की रोटी आज हमें दे” (मत्ती 6:11)। प्रभु की यह बात इस्राएलियों के मिस्र के दासत्व से निकलकर मिस्र की यात्रा के समय उनके भोजन के बारे में ध्यान करवाती है। हम उत्पत्ति 16 अध्याय में देखते हैं कि उन इस्राएलियों के भोजन के लिए, परमेश्वर उन्हें प्रतिदिन मन्ना दिया करता था। उन्हें प्रतिदिन सवेरे उठकर उसे एकत्रित करना होता था, और उनके पास हमेशा परिवार के प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की आवश्यकता के अनुसार दिन भर का मन्ना उपलब्ध रहता था, चाहे वे कम या अधिक, जितना भी एकत्रित करें। यदि अधिक एकत्रित करते थे, तो जो आवश्यकता से अधिक था, वह सड़ जाता था; और यदि कम एकत्रित किया होता था, तो भी कोई भूखा नहीं रहता था। केवल सबत के दिन के लिए वे दो दिन की आवश्यकता के अनुसार मन्ना एकत्रित किया करते थे, और वह खराब नहीं होता था। जब तक वे इस्राएली कनान में आकर बस नहीं गए, उनके पास खेती करके भोजन का साधन नहीं हो गया, परमेश्वर उन्हें मन्ना देता रहा (यहोशू 5:12)। लेकिन जंगल की 40 वर्ष की यात्रा में परमेश्वर के उन लोगों, इस्राएलियों को, कभी एक दिन, या एक बार भी मन्ना दिए जाने के लिए परमेश्वर से कोई प्रार्थना नहीं करनी पड़ी। परमेश्वर ने प्रतिज्ञा की थी कि उन्हें प्रतिदिन मन्ना मिलेगा, और प्रति भोर, मन्ना उनके लिए उपलब्ध होता था, उन्हें बस जाकर उसे एकत्रित करना होता था। तो फिर प्रभु यहाँ पर अपने शिष्यों से प्रतिदिन की रोटी माँगने के लिए क्यों कह रहा है? उसने, उन शिष्यों से यह क्यों नहीं कहा कि परमेश्वर से माँगो कि जैसे इस्राएलियों को प्रतिदिन उनका भोजन मिल जाता था, वैसे ही हमें भी जीवन भर स्वतः ही भोजन मिलता रहे; माँगने की आवश्यकता ही न हो?

उस समय की इस्राएलियों की परिस्थिति का ध्यान कीजिए; वे यात्रा में थे। परमेश्वर उनके मार्ग का, उन्हें कितना चलना है, कब और कहाँ रुकना है, कितने समय रुकना है, कब फिर से चल देना है, अगला पड़ाव कब और कहाँ होगा, आदि सभी बातों को तय करता था, और उसके अनुसार उन्हें लेकर चलता था (गिनती 9:17-22)। इसलिए उस पूरी यात्रा में, उनकी बलवई और अनाज्ञाकारिता की प्रवृत्ति के बावजूद, उन इस्राएलियों के पास सिवाए परमेश्वर पर मन्ना के लिए निर्भर रहने के, भोजन के लिए अन्य कोई विकल्प था ही नहीं। वे मिस्र के भोजन को याद करके विलाप कर सकते थे, लेकिन कनान में पहुँचने से पहले वैसे भोजन को प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते थे। उन इस्राएलियों के समान, आज के मसीही भी बलवई हैं, ढीठ और अनाज्ञाकारी तो हैं; लेकिन एक तरह से, भोजन के लिए परमेश्वर पर निर्भर नहीं हैं। आज वे अपने प्रयत्न, अपने परिश्रम से, या संसार के साथ समझौते करके, शारीरिक भोजन प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। इसलिए, अपने शिष्यों को प्रार्थना में माँगने के लिए पहली बात प्रतिदिन का भोजन, को रखने के द्वारा प्रभु अपने शिष्यों के अन्दर यह प्रवृत्ति, यह निर्भरता चाहता है कि वे अपनी शारीरिक सामर्थ्य और साँसारिक योग्यता पर, अपनी सम्पन्नता पर भरोसा ना करें, वरन केवल परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहने वाले हों। 

उन इस्राएलियों के, परमेश्वर के प्रति हर प्रकार के व्यवहार के बावजूद, परमेश्वर उन्हें प्रतिदिन उनकी आवश्यकता के अनुसार मन्ना देता ही रहा; उसे कभी रोका नहीं। अर्थात परमेश्वर के प्रावधान उसके लोगों के लिए हमेशा और हर परिस्थिति में उपलब्ध रहते हैं, “जवान सिंहों तो घटी होती और वे भूखे भी रह जाते हैं; परन्तु यहोवा के खोजियों को किसी भली वस्तु की घटी न होवेगी” (भजन 34:10)। लेकिन जो परमेश्वर पर नहीं, बल्कि स्वयं पर निर्भर रहते हैं, वे नहीं जानते हैं कि कब परिस्थिति बदले, कब कोई दुर्घटना, कोई रोग, कोई आपदा आए, और वे सम्पन्नता से कंगाली में पहुँच जाएं; बहुतायत से निकलकर दाने-दाने को तरस जाएं। संसार कि जिन लोगों पर वे भरोसा कर रहे हैं, वे कब उन्हें धोखा दे दें, कब उनसे उनका सब कुछ छीन लें। इसलिए प्रभु के सच्चे शिष्यों को परमेश्वर से जो माँगना है, उसमें सब से पहली बात है परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहने की प्रवृत्ति, जिससे वे कभी किसी धोखे में, हानि में न आएं; उनकी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति का स्त्रोत हमेशा उपलब्ध बना रहे। अगले लेख में हम यहाँ से आगे देखेंगे।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (31)

While learning about things related to practical Christian living, we have been considering the four things given in Acts 2:42, which the initial Christian Believers observed steadfastly, through the examples and verses given about them in God’s Word, the Bible. Having seen the first three things, we are now considering the fourth one, prayer; and on the basis of Matthew 6:5-15 we are seeing about the “Lord’s Prayer.” We have seen that what is commonly called the “Lord’s Prayer,” and is usually memorized in childhood and then is routinely spoken by rote on all occasions, for everything without trying to understand about it or ponder over it, is actually not a ‘prayer’ given by the Lord. Instead, it is an outline, a framework to build prayers acceptable to God the Father. Every Christian should correct and build their lives and behavior according to this framework and the things given in it, and then prepare their prayers to offer to God according to this outline. In the previous article we have seen how Satan has deceived and misled us to ignore the things stated by the Lord in these verses to pray about. But a little ahead, in Matthew 6:19-34 what God has given as things that He will automatically gift to His true, surrendered, obedient disciples, those, under Satan’s influence on us, have become our prayer points. Consequently, neither do we receive the things that should be our topics for prayer, nor those which are meant to be given as gifts or rewards. Because we never pray and ask for the first ones, and do not do what we should be doing to receive the second ones, but only keep praying about them. The fault of not understanding and obeying God’s Word is ours, but since we do not get our expected answers, we hold God responsible and accuse Him of not answering our prayers. Whereas, the truth is that instead of listening to God, we listen to men and their contrived teachings, and remain caught up in their wrong teachings and keep suffering loss. Today we will begin considering the three topics for prayer that have been stated by the Lord here.

As we have seen earlier, the Lord has said three things in Matthew 6:11-13a, which the Christian should be praying about to God. The first is in verse 11 “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). What the Lord has said brings to mind the way God provided food for the Israelites when they came out of slavery in Egypt and journeyed to the Promised Land. We see in Exodus chapter 16 that God gave them food for the day in the form of manna every day. Every morning the Israelites had to gather manna for the day, and they always had enough for the needs of the family throughout the day, no matter how much or how little they would gather. If they gathered in excess, it would rot, even if they had gathered less, no one went hungry. Only for the Sabbath day could they gather enough to last them for two days and it would not rot. They continued to receive manna till they settled in Canaan and had their first harvest (Joshua 5:12). But throughout their 40 years of travel in the wilderness, never once did the Israelite have to ask for manna to be provided to them. God had promised that they would receive it every morning, and every morning it was there, available for them; all they had to do was go and gather it for the day. Then why is the Lord asking His disciples to pray for their daily bread? Instead, why did He not ask the disciples to ask God to automatically keep giving them food daily, as He gave to the Israelites, without having to pray for it?

Ponder over the situation of the Israelites at that time; they were traveling. It was God who decided the way they had to take, for how long they had to continue traveling, when and where they were to break journey, for how long they had to stop, when they were to resume the journey, when and where would be the next camping, etc. (Numbers 9:17-22). Therefore, in that whole journey, despite their being rebellious, stiff-necked, and disobedient, the Israelites had no one but God to depend upon and no alternative for food except for the manna He provided to them as their food for the day. They could sorrow and lament for the food they ate in Egypt, but till they reached Canaan, they could never have it again. Like those Israelites, today’s Christians too are similarly rebellious, stiff-necked, and disobedient; but in a way, are not totally dependent upon God for their food as the Israelites were. Today, through their efforts, work, or compromising with the world, they can arrange for food for their physical needs. Therefore, by keeping their daily provision of food as the first prayer matter, the Lord wants the disciples to develop this tendency, this dependency that they will never rely on their physical strength, their capabilities, their prosperity, the world, but only trust and rely upon God for everything.

Despite whatever way those Israelites treated God, God continued to provide them with manna according to their needs; He never stopped it for them. In other words, God’s provisions are always available for His people, under all circumstances “The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Psalm 34:10). But those who depend not upon God but upon themselves, they never know when circumstances will change and they will go from being prosperous to being paupers. Some disease, some accident, some natural disaster would change everything for them. The people of the world that they have been relying upon, may deceive them and loot them out of everything they have. Therefore, the true disciples of the Lord, the first thing they should learn to ask from God is to have the nature of totally depending upon Him for everything, so that they will never be deceived by anyone, suffer any loss from anyone, and they always have available the inexhaustible source to meet their needs. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने का एक महत्वपूर्ण भाग है परमेश्वर के साथ जुड़े रहना, उसके साथ वार्तालाप अर्थात, प्रार्थना करने में लगे रहना। प्रेरितों 2:42 में चार बातें दी गईं हैं, जिनमें आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन रहते थे। इन चार में से चौथी बात है प्रार्थना करना, अर्थात हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर के साथ निरन्तर सम्पर्क में बने रहना। आज के मसीहियों में भी ये चार बातें पाई जाती हैं, किन्तु वे उनमें लौलीन नहीं रहते हैं, वरन रीति के निर्वाह के लिए, इन चारों को औपचारिकता पूर्वक पूरा कर लेते हैं। प्रार्थना करने, यानि परमेश्वर से हर बात के बारे में वार्तालाप करने में भी सामान्यतः वह रुचि और लग्न नहीं देखी जाती है। व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित इन चारों बातों के मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह के बारे में हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए उदाहरणों और सम्बन्धित पदों से देखते आ रहे हैं। वर्तमान में, प्रार्थना के विषय बाइबल से सीखते हुए, अब हम तथाकथित “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” के बारे में मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर विचार कर रहे हैं। हमने देखा है कि वास्तव में यह प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दी गई कोई “प्रार्थना” नहीं है, जिसे रट कर हर अवसर और हर बात के लिए बिना विचारे, बिना सोचे समझे बोल दिया जाए, जैसा आज मसीहियों में किया जाता है। वरन यह परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाओं को बनाने और करने के लिए एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा है, जिसके आधार पर मसीहियों को अपने जीवन और प्रार्थनाएं ढालनी चाहिएं। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर के सामने प्रस्तुत होने से पहले एक तैयारी आवश्यक है; और उससे कुछ माँगने वाले होने से पहले, उसे आराधना, आदर, सम्मान, आज्ञाकारिता देने वाला होना अनिवार्य है। आज से हम प्रभु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को यहाँ पर सिखाए गए प्रार्थना के विषयों के बारे में विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे।

 

प्रार्थना के इस ढाँचे, इस रूपरेखा में, मत्ती 6:11-13a में प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों के सामने, परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए तीन विषय रखे हैं - पद 11 में प्रतिदिन के लिए रोटी या भोजन; पद 12 में क्षमा करने वाला बनना; और पद 13a बुराई से बचे रहने के लिए परमेश्वर से सुरक्षा; और फिर पद 13b में परमेश्वर के गुणानुवाद, उसे आदर और महिमा देने के साथ यह रूपरेखा समाप्त हो जाती है। इसके बाद के पद 14-15 में पद 12 के विषय, क्षमा करने वाला बनने से सम्बन्धित प्रभु द्वारा दी गई एक व्याख्या और चेतावनी है। यदि हम अपने मसीही जीवनों, व्यवहार, और परमेश्वर से माँगी गई अपनी प्रार्थनाओं के बारे में देखते हैं, तो उन्हें प्रभु द्वारा सिखाई गई इन तीन बातों से बहुत भिन्न पाते हैं। यदि हम अपनी प्रार्थनाओं पर, हम जो परमेश्वर से प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं और उसके सामने अपने जिन विषयों को रखते हैं, उन बातों पर विचार करें, तो हमारे प्रार्थना के विषय इन तीन विषयों से बहुत कम मेल खाते हैं। ऐसे बहुत ही कम मसीही होंगे जो इन तीन बातों को परमेश्वर से नित्य माँगते होंगे। लेकिन इसके विपरीत, शायद ही कोई ऐसा मसीही होगा जो नहीं चाहता होगा कि उसके लिए परमेश्वर इन तीनों बातों को स्वतः ही, बिना माँगे ही, पूरा करता रहे। अर्थात, ये तीनों बातें अपने जीवन में चाहिएं तो सभी को, लेकिन इन तीनों से सम्बन्धित जो अन्य बातें इन पदों में दी गई हैं, उन्हें कोई करना नहीं चाहता है। इसलिए इन बातों को परमेश्वर से माँगने से कतराते हैं। क्योंकि जीवन में इन तीनों बातों के होने के लाभ और महत्व को सभी जानते हैं, इसलिए उन्हें अपने लिए चाहते सब हैं; किन्तु आगे होकर, पहल करके, उन्हें औरों को कोई देना नहीं चाहता है, इसलिए उनके लिए प्रार्थना में शान्त रहते हैं।

 

ऐसी ही एक दूसरी विडम्बना भी है। हम आज जिन बातों को सामान्यतः अपनी प्रार्थनाओं में परमेश्वर से माँगते हैं, वे प्रभु के द्वारा इससे थोड़ा सा आगे मत्ती 6:19-34 में दी गई हैं; प्रार्थना में माँगने के लिए नहीं, वरन परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने सच्चे, समर्पित आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों की उसके प्रति आज्ञाकारिता और उसकी इच्छा के अनुसार जीवन जीने और काम करने के कारण परमेश्वर से मिलने वाले उपहार के समान। शैतान ने हमारी बुद्धि कैसी भ्रष्ट कर रखी है कि हम परमेश्वर से प्रार्थनाओं में, विभिन्न तरह से धन, सम्पत्ति, मकान, वस्त्र, प्रतिष्ठा, भोजन, साँसारिक बातों में बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति, आदि को तो माँगते हैं, जिन्हें माँगने के लिए प्रभु ने सिखाया ही नहीं है। लेकिन जिन तीन बातों को परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए सिखाया है, जो अनन्तकाल की आशीषों और आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी तथा उन्नति से सम्बन्धित हैं, जो इस लोक और परलोक दोनों के लिए लाभदायक हैं, उन्हें शायद ही कोई मसीही परमेश्वर से माँगता होगा। मत्ती 6:19-34 में प्रभु ने हमारी प्रार्थनाओं के इन विषयों की व्यर्थता के बारे में, आकाश के पक्षियों, जंगली सोसनों, स्वयं की आयु पर नियन्त्रण न कर पाने, सांसारिक धन के नाशमान होने, आदि के उदाहरणों के द्वारा समझाया है कि इनकी लालसा करना कितना व्यर्थ है। साथ ही पद 32 में यह उलाहना भी दिया है कि इन वस्तुओं की खोज में रहना, इनकी लालसा में रहना, अन्यजातियों का गुण है, परमेश्वर के लोगों का नहीं। और फिर अपने शिष्यों को सम्बोधित करते हुए आश्वस्त किया और कहा, “इसलिये पहिले तुम परमेश्वर के राज्य और उसके धर्म की खोज करो तो ये सब वस्तुएं भी तुम्हें मिल जाएंगी” (मत्ती 6:33)। प्रभु की प्रतिज्ञा प्रकट है, कि जो परमेश्वर के राज्य और उसकी धार्मिकता को अपने जीवन में प्राथमिकता देगा, उसे न केवल स्वर्ग में प्रतिफल, वरन, स्वतः ही संसार की आवश्यक बातें भी परमेश्वर कि ओर से दे दी जाएंगी। आवश्यकता अपने जीवनों में सही प्राथमिकताओं को निर्धारित करने और निर्वाह करने की है।

 

यहाँ पर शैतान ने हमें चुपके से कैसी युक्ति में फँसा रखा है, उसपर ध्यान कीजिए। हम इस पर ध्यान नहीं देते और समझते नहीं हैं कि परमेश्वर ने जो कहा है, वह उसे अवश्य पूरा करेगा; और जो नहीं कहा है, उसे कभी नहीं करेगा, उसे चाहे कोई भी और कैसे भी क्यों न माँगे। लेकिन शैतान परमेश्वर के इस गुण को अच्छे से जानता और समझता है, और हमारी बुद्धि को भ्रष्ट करके, हमें बहका और भरमा के, परमेश्वर के इस गुण को हमारे विरुद्ध प्रयोग करता है। परमेश्वर के वचन की अधूरी और गलत समझ रखने के कारण, हम शैतान के प्रभाव और बहकावे में फँसकर उसकी युक्ति के अनुसार करते हैं। ध्यान दीजिए कि शैतान ने हमें किस गलती में डाल रखा है: परमेश्वर के वचन और शिक्षाओं के अनुसार हमें जो और जैसे माँगना चाहिए, हम उसे नहीं माँगते हैं; इसलिए परमेश्वर से उन बातों से सम्बन्धित आशीषों को प्राप्त नहीं करते हैं। साथ ही, हमें परमेश्वर के लिए जो करना चाहिए, जो उसके प्रति हमारी प्राथमिकता होनी चाहिए, हम उसे भी नहीं करते हैं; इसलिए उसके प्रतिफल में जो हमें स्वतः ही परमेश्वर से मिल जाता, उससे भी वंचित रह जाते हैं। लेकिन वचन के अनुसार जिसे माँगने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है, और जो माँगने पर भी परमेश्वर देगा नहीं, क्योंकि उसने उसे प्रार्थना के उत्तर में नहीं, आज्ञाकारिता के उपहार के रूप में देना ठहराया है, हम उसी के लिए प्रार्थनाएं करते हैं, फिर निराश होते हैं, परमेश्वर और उसके वचन पर अविश्वास करने लगते हैं। परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति हमारी लापरवाही और अनाज्ञाकारिता के कारण गलती तो हम करते हैं, लेकिन उस गलती और उससे होने वाली हानि के लिए ज़िम्मेदार परमेश्वर को ठहराते हैं। और इस सारी प्रक्रिया में हर तरह से शैतान सफल और हम हानि उठाने वाले रहते हैं। इसलिए आवश्यकता परमेश्वर के वचन को जानने, सीखने, और मानने की है। तब ही हम ऐसी मूर्खताओं से निकलने और आशीषित तथा सुरक्षित रहने पाएंगे।

 

अगले लेख में हम प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए प्रार्थना के तीनों विषयों पर यहाँ से आगे विचार करना ज़ारी रखेंगे।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (30)

An important part of practical Christian living is remaining connected with God, to keep praying, i.e., conversing with Him at all times. We have in Acts 2:42 four things that the initial Christian Believers observed steadfastly. The fourth of these four is prayer, or continually being in touch with God for everything. These four things are seen amongst the Christians today also, but they do not observe them steadfastly; instead, they do it like a ritual, perfunctorily. The kind of interest and sincere desire as was amongst the initial Christians is not seen today, even for prayers. We have been looking at and pondering over the original form and observance of these four things through the related examples and verses given in God’s Word the Bible. Presently, while learning about prayer, we are now considering the so-called “Lord’s Prayer” through Matthew 6:5-15. We have seen that actually speaking it is not a “prayer” given by the Lord Jesus, that should be memorized, and then on all occasions and for everything be repeated by rote without understanding or thinking about it, as is commonly done by the Christians today. Instead, it is a framework, an outline, based on which the Christians should make and mold their individual prayers. We have seen that there is preparation that is necessary prior to appearing before God with prayers; and before being a person who asks God for something, it is essential to be one who gives to God His due honor, reverence, obedience, and worship in and through our lives. From today we will start considering the topics that the Lord taught to His disciples to ask for in prayer.

In this framework, this outline of prayer, in Matthew 6:11-13a, the Lord has given three topics for them to ask from God - in verse 11 it is our daily bread or food; in verse 12 it is being one who forgives others; and in verse 13a it is asking for God’s security and safety to be kept from evil; and then this ‘prayer’ ends by praising God and giving Him glory and honor in verse 13b. Then after this, in verses 14-15 we have a comment and caution by the Lord related to the topic of verse 12, i.e., forgiveness. If we consider our Christian lives, behavior, and our own prayers, that we ask of God, then we find them to be quite different from the three things the Lord has taught. If we think over our prayers, the things that we want to receive from God and the topics we place before God for being fulfilled by Him, then we see them to be quite different from what the Lord has taught here. There would be hardly any Christians who would regularly pray for these things in their lives. But on the contrary, there would be hardly any Christian who would not want God to automatically and continually fulfill these three things for them in their lives, without their even asking for them. In other words, everyone wants these three things to be available to them in their lives, but no one wants to do the associated things given in the same verses. Therefore, they shy away from asking God for them. Because everyone knows about the importance and benefits of having these three things in their lives, therefore everyone desires to have them; but none wants to step up and first do these for others, so they remain silent about them in their prayers.

Here, there is another similar irony too. The things that we commonly ask God for in our prayers are given a little ahead in Matthew 6:19-34; not for being asked in prayer, but as God’s reward to His true, surrendered, obedient disciples, who carry out His will, work and live out their lives as God wants them to do - God automatically gifts these things to them. Satan has so corrupted our minds and understanding, that in various ways we ask God for wealth, possessions, house, clothes, name and fame, growth and increase in things or the world; things which the Lord has not taught to pray about. But the three things that the Lord has taught to pray about, things that are related to eternal blessings, to spiritual edification and growth, things that are beneficial for us in this world as well as the next, hardly any Christian ever prays about and asks for them. In Matthew 6:19-34, the Lord has taught about the vanity of desiring them through the examples of the birds, lilies of the fields, inability to control our age, fate of worldly wealth etc. And in verse 32 here He has also chided by saying that to desire these and to be engaged in acquiring these is a characteristic of the Gentiles, not of the people of God. Then addressing His disciples, the Lord assured them and says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). The Lord’s promise is clear: whoever gives priority to God’s kingdom and His righteousness in his life, not only will he get the rewards in heaven, but even the worldly things he requires will be provided for Him by God. The necessity is of having the right priorities in our lives and of following them.

Here, take note of how subtly Satan has trapped us in his devious devices. We neither pay attention to nor understand God’s attribute that whatever God has said He will surely fulfill; and what He has not said, He will never do it, no matter who and how much anyone may ask for it. But Satan knows and understands this attribute of God very well, and by corrupting our minds and understanding, he deceives and misleads us, and uses this attribute of God against us. Because of our scanty knowledge and misunderstandings of God’s Word, we fall for Satan’s devious schemes and do as he misleads us. Pay attention to the error that Satan has entangled us in: what we should be asking for from God in accordance with His Word, we do not ask for it; therefore, we do not receive the associated blessings from God. Also, what we should be doing for God, the priority that we should be having in our lives related to things of God, we do not do them either; therefore, the gifts and rewards we would have automatically received from God, we miss out on them as well. But we ask for things that the Lord has taught that there is no need to ask for, and so God will not give us those things; because He has decreed to give them as gifts and rewards to those who are obedient to Him, and not as answers to prayers. So, we ask for things that God will not give as answers to prayers, then we are disappointed, and start distrusting God and His Word. Through our carelessness and disobedience towards God’s Word, it is we who make mistakes and do wrongs, but hold God responsible for the harmful consequences. In this whole process, it is Satan who has the success and we are the ones who remain at loss. Therefore, the necessity is to know, learn and obey God’s Word. Only then will we be able to come out of such foolishness, and stay safe and blessed.

Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
