पिछले लेख में हमने प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य होने एक गुण पर विचार करना आरम्भ किया था - प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य, प्रभु के समान ही परमेश्वर के कार्य में लगा रहता है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि इस प्रकार कार्यरत रहना, न केवल प्रभु यीशु के लिए, वरन उत्पत्ति में अदन की वाटिका के समय से ही प्रत्येक परमेश्वर के जन, और आज प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित ज़िम्मेदारी है। यद्यपि वचन यह सिखाता है कि जो लोग प्रभु की ओर से, प्रभु के लोगों के मध्य में आत्मिक बातों की सेवकाई करते हैं, उन लोगों की शारीरिक आवश्यकताओं की देखभाल उन लोगों के द्वारा की जाए जिनके मध्य वे सेवकाई करते हैं (1 कुरिन्थियों 9:1-14)। किन्तु जैसा यहाँ पर पद 12 संकेत करता है, इस सुविधा का दुरुपयोग, अथवा ज़रा सा भी अनुचित प्रयोग, सुसमाचार प्रचार में बाधा डाल सकता है; इसीलिए इससे आगे पद 15-17 में पौलुस ने अपने उदाहरण से दिखाया कि उसने इस सुविधा का उपयोग नहीं किया, किन्तु परिश्रम करके अपना जीवन यापन किया। आज हम पौलुस द्वारा इस सन्दर्भ में कही गई बातों को देखेंगे। 

प्रेरित पौलुस ने अपने जीवन के उदाहरण से दिखाया कि वह परिश्रम करके अपनी आजीविका कमाता था जिससे वह किसी पर भी बोझ न हो, और मसीही सेवकाई में भी लगा रहता था “और अपने ही हाथों से काम कर के परिश्रम करते हैं। लोग बुरा कहते हैं, हम आशीष देते हैं; वे सताते हैं, हम सहते हैं” (1 कुरिन्थियों 4:12); “क्योंकि, हे भाइयों, तुम हमारे परिश्रम और कष्‍ट को स्मरण रखते हो, कि हम ने इसलिये रात दिन काम धन्‍धा करते हुए तुम में परमेश्वर का सुसमाचार प्रचार किया, कि तुम में से किसी पर भार न हों” (1 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 2:9); “और किसी की रोटी सेंत में न खाई; पर परिश्रम और कष्‍ट से रात दिन काम धन्‍धा करते थे, कि तुम में से किसी पर भार न हो” (2 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 3:8); पौलुस अपनी उस कमाई से औरों की सहायता भी करता था “परन्तु जिस तरह माता अपने बालकों का पालन-पोषण करती है, वैसे ही हम ने भी तुम्हारे बीच में रह कर कोमलता दिखाई है” (1 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 2:7); “मैं तुम्हारी आत्माओं के लिये बहुत आनन्द से खर्च करूंगा, वरन आप भी खर्च हो जाऊंगा...” (2 कुरिन्थियों 12:15)। उसने ऐसा ही करने की शिक्षा मसीही विश्वासियों को भी दी “और जैसी हम ने तुम्हें आज्ञा दी, वैसे ही चुपचाप रहने और अपना अपना काम काज करने, और अपने अपने हाथों से कमाने का प्रयत्न करो” (1 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 4:11); और यहाँ तक भी कहा कि “और जब हम तुम्हारे यहां थे, तब भी यह आज्ञा तुम्हें देते थे, कि यदि कोई काम करना न चाहे, तो खाने भी न पाए” (2 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 3:10)।

मसीह यीशु के शिष्यों के लिए संदेश और निर्देश स्पष्ट है - परमेश्वर पिता के समान प्रभु यीशु भी कार्य करता रहा; प्रभु ने शिष्यों को चुना और उनके लिए भी प्रयोजन रखे; और भावी मसीही शिष्यों के लिए भी यही शिक्षा और निर्देश दिए कि मसीही सेवकाई में संलग्न होने पर भी वे औरों पर बोझ न बने, परंतु अपने ही परिश्रम से अपना जीवन यापन करें, तथा औरों की भी सहायता करें। मसीही विश्वासी होने का अर्थ औरों पर निर्भर होकर अपना घर चलाना नहीं है, वरन प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी बनकर प्रभु के घर के लिए कार्य करना है। किन्तु सबसे पहली बात तो यह सुनिश्चित करना है कि क्या आप वास्तव में प्रभु यीशु के सच्चे समर्पित शिष्य हैं अथवा नहीं? क्योंकि मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित अन्य सभी बातें इस एक बात पर ही निर्भर हैं। 

इसलिए यदि आप अभी तक मसीह यीशु के समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी शिष्य नहीं बने हैं, तो समय तथा अवसर के रहते आज ही, अभी ही, धर्म-कर्म-रस्म की व्यर्थ धारणा एवं मान्यता से निकलकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह की वास्तविक शिष्यता में आना और उसे निभाना अनिवार्य है। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जब परलोक में आँख खुले तब पता लगे कि जिस धर्म तथा उसकी बातों का सारे जीवन बड़ी निष्ठा से निर्वाह करते रहे उससे कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ, और अब उस गलती को सुधारने का कोई अवसर पास नहीं है; अब तो केवल अनन्तकाल का दण्ड ही मिलेगा। अभी समय रहते अपने जीवन में इन अनिवार्य बदलावों को कर लीजिए; इससे पहले कि कुछ भी कर पाने का समय और अवसर जाता रहे।

यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों की क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास यह कर लेने का समय और अवसर है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Biblical Christian Faith - a Discipleship of Being at Work (2)

In the previous article we had begun considering a characteristic of being the disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ - the disciple of the Lord Jesus, like the Lord Jesus keeps working for the Lord. We had also seen that being involved like this was not just for the Lord Jesus, rather, since creation, was made the responsibility of every man of God, and today is the responsibility of every Christian Believer. Although the Word teaches us that those who have been ordained by God to work amongst God's people, meeting their physical needs is the responsibility of those amongst whom they labor (1 Corinthians 9:1-14). But, as verse 12 here indicates, the misuse, or even the slightest of inappropriate use of this privilege can create problems in the preaching of the gospel; therefore, in the subsequent verses 15-17 Paul shows through his own example that he did not utilize this right, rather labored to earn his living. Today we will consider some things stated by Paul in this context.

The Apostle Paul illustrated this principle very well through his life; he used to work and earn for himself, so that he is never a burden upon anyone, and was also deeply involved in Christian ministry “And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure” (1 Corinthians 4:12); “For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God” (1 Thessalonians 2:9); “nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you” (2 Thessalonians 3:8); Paul even helped others with his earnings “But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children” (1 Thessalonians 2:7); “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls…” (2 Corinthians 12:15). Paul gave instructions to the Christian Believers to do the same “that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you” (1 Thessalonians 4:11); and went to the extent of saying “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

From this, the message and instructions for Christian Believers are quite clear - Christian discipleship is not living a life of ease and relaxation, but to be working for the Lord to preach His gospel and fulfilling the work He has kept for us. God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ have been working, and are still at work, so, how can God’s people not be working like them? The Lord Jesus Christ chose His disciples and instructed them that in their Christian ministry they should not be a burden upon others, but they should work for their living as well as help others with what they earn. To be a disciple of Christ Jesus does not mean to be dependent upon others to make ends meet and look after our families; rather it means to be useful and fruitful in and for the House of the Lord. But the first and foremost thing is to be certain whether or not you are an actually surrendered true disciple of the Lord? Because everything else related to the Christian life is dependent upon this one thing. 

Therefore, if you have not yet become an obedient and surrendered disciple of the Lord Jesus, then come out of the mentality of thinking yourself to be righteous because of your religion-works-rituals and truly become a disciple of the Lord Jesus. Lest when your eyes open in the next world, you come to realize that the religion and its related rituals you so diligently observed throughout your life were vain, had no benefits, and now there is no opportunity left to make amends for your errors; all that you have is suffering the penalty for eternity. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार प्रभु यीशु का अनुयायी होना किसी धर्म का निर्वाह करना नहीं है; और न ही यह वंशागत - किसी परिवार विशेष में जन्म ले लेने के द्वारा स्वाभाविक रीति से और स्वतः ही प्राप्त हो जाने वाला कोई विशेषाधिकार नहीं है। न तो प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने कभी कोई धर्म बनाया; न कभी अपने नाम से किसी धर्म के बनाए जाने की शिक्षा अथवा निर्देश दिए; न ही कभी लोगों के धर्म परिवर्तन करने के लिए कहा; और न ही कभी यह कहा या सिखाया कि कुछ धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों और रीतियों की पूर्ति के द्वारा कोई उनका अनुयायी बनाया जा सकता है। न ही प्रभु ने कभी ऐसा कोई आश्वासन अथवा ऐसी कोई प्रतिज्ञा दी कि जो उसके अनुयायी हो जाएंगे, फिर उनके बाद उनकी संतान और भावी पीढ़ियाँ भी स्वतः ही यह विशेषाधिकार प्राप्त करती चली जाएंगी। यह बाइबल का प्रकट सत्य है कि जिसे भी मसीह यीशु का अनुयायी होना है, उसे व्यक्तिगत रीति से, स्वेच्छा तथा सच्चे मन से अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु मसीह से अपने पापों की क्षमा माँगकर, पापों की क्षमा के लिए प्रभु यीशु द्वारा कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए बलिदान - उनके मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने और तीसरे दिन मृतकों में से जी उठाने को स्वीकार करना होगा, और यीशु को प्रभु मानकर अपने आप को उन्हें समर्पित कर देना होगा; इसे ही उद्धार या नया जन्म प्राप्त करना कहते हैं, जिसके बिना कोई परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश तो दूर, उसे देख भी नहीं सकता है (यूहन्ना 3:3, 5, 7)। यह उस व्यक्ति के मसीही जीवन का आरंभ है, इस विशिष्ट जीवन यात्रा में उठाया गया पहला कदम है। इस बिन्दु से लेकर फिर उसके शेष जीवन भर वह प्रभु यीशु के वचन और आज्ञाकारिता से सीखता रहता है, प्रभु तथा उस व्यक्ति में निवास करने वाले पवित्र आत्मा के चलाए चलता रहता है, और प्रभु उसे अंश-अंश करके अपने स्वरूप में बदलता चला जाता है (2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18)।

प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपनी पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के दिनों में अपने पीछे चलने वाले लोगों की भीड़ में से बारह लोगों को चुना, जिन्हें उसने प्रेरित कहा (लूका 6:13)। प्रभु ने भविष्य में सारे संसार भर में जाकर प्रभु में उपलब्ध पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के सुसमाचार के प्रचार और प्रसार करने का दायित्व इन्हीं को सौंपा, और इस महान एवं महत्वपूर्ण कार्य के लिए इन्हें लगभग साढ़े-तीन वर्ष तक प्रशिक्षित किया। यहूदा इस्करियोती के अलग हो जाने के बाद इस सेवकाई में आगे चलकर पौलुस को जोड़ दिया गया, उसे भी प्रेरित कहा गया। जब प्रभु ने उन बारह शिष्यों को चुना था, तो उनके लिए प्रभु यीशु का एक विशेष प्रयोजन था, जिसके अंतर्गत वह उन्हें उनकी सेवकाई और कार्य के लिए, तथा उसके गवाह होने के लिए तैयार करने जा रहा था। उसके इस प्रयोजन को हम एक संक्षिप्त और सुन्दर रूप में मरकुस 3:13-15 में देखते हैं: “फिर वह पहाड़ पर चढ़ गया, और जिन्हें वह चाहता था उन्हें अपने पास बुलाया; और वे उसके पास चले आए। तब उसने बारह पुरुषों को नियुक्त किया, कि वे उसके साथ साथ रहें, और वह उन्हें भेजे, कि प्रचार करें। और दुष्टात्माओं के निकालने का अधिकार रखें।” मरकुस के इस खंड में प्रभु ने तीन प्रयोजन अपने शिष्यों के लिए रखे हैं; और वे जिस क्रम में रखे हैं, वह भी महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि हम देखते हैं कि क्रम के पहले से तीसरे को बढ़ते जाने तक, परिपक्वता में बढ़ने के साथ, दायित्व एवं कौशल भी बढ़ता जाता है। पद 14 और 15 में दिए गए ये तीन प्रयोजन हैं:

    * वे उसके साथ साथ रहें (पद 14)

    * वह उन्हें भेजे, कि प्रचार करें (पद 14)

** भेजे जाने को तैयार हों

** जहाँ और जब प्रभु कहे वहाँ और तब जाएं 

** प्रभु के कहे के अनुसार प्रचार करने को तैयार हों 

    * दुष्टात्माओं के निकालने का अधिकार रखें (पद 15)

यह हमारे प्रभु परमेश्वर के बारे में एक महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य भी प्रकट करता है - परमेश्वर का कोई कार्य, कोई बात निरुद्देश्य नहीं होती है। जैसा प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने कहा कि सृष्टि करने के हजारों वर्ष बाद भी जिस प्रकार परमेश्वर अभी भी कार्य कर रहा है, उसी प्रकार प्रभु यीशु भी काम में लगा हुआ है “इस पर यीशु ने उन से कहा, कि मेरा पिता अब तक काम करता है, और मैं भी काम करता हूं” (यूहन्ना 5:17)। प्रभु आज भी हमारे सहायक के रूप में कार्य कर रहा है (1 यूहन्ना 2:1), और हमारे लिए स्थान भी तैयार कर रहा है “मेरे पिता के घर में बहुत से रहने के स्थान हैं, यदि न होते, तो मैं तुम से कह देता क्योंकि मैं तुम्हारे लिये जगह तैयार करने जाता हूं” (यूहन्ना 14:2)। इसी प्रकार से प्रभु परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के करने के लिए भी पहले ही से कुछ-न-कुछ कार्य निर्धारित कर के रखा हुए हैं “क्योंकि हम उसके बनाए हुए हैं; और मसीह यीशु में उन भले कामों के लिये सृजे गए जिन्हें परमेश्वर ने पहिले से हमारे करने के लिये तैयार किया” (इफिसियों 2:10)। परमेश्वर के इस सिद्धांत को मनुष्य की सृष्टि के साथ ही दे दिया गया था; परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य के लिए अदन की वाटिका को लगाया था, किन्तु उसकी देखभाल करना, आदम का कार्य और ज़िम्मेदारी थे (उत्पत्ति 2:8, 15)। इसलिए, मसीही विश्वासी होने का यह अर्थ नहीं है कि उसे कोई परिश्रम नहीं करना पड़ेगा, और वह परमेश्वर तथा कलीसिया या मण्डली से आशा रखे कि वे उसकी भौतिक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करेंगे। प्रभु के शिष्य को, मसीही विश्वासी को अपनी आजीविका एवं आवश्यकताओं के लिए कार्य करना अनिवार्य है।

प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के लिए प्रभु के उपरोक्त तीनों प्रयोजनों के बारे में हम आगे देखेंगे। लेकिन अभी के लिए, यह अनिवार्य है कि हम प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा सिखाए गए मसीही विश्वास के सत्यों और तथ्यों का पालन करें। परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के आधार पर, हमें मसीहियत के नाम में जो गलत शिक्षाएं और धारणाएं सिखाई और बताई गई हैं उनको बड़े ध्यान से परखना और आँकलन कर लेना चाहिए, और मसीह यीशु के नाम में शैतान द्वारा फैलाए गए धर्म के भ्रम से बाहर निकलना चाहिए। हमें यह समझना चाहिए कि मसीही शिष्यता एक उद्देश्य के लिए है, और अन्ततः, प्रत्येक के द्वारा जो कुछ भी किया, अथवा नहीं किया गया है, उस सभी का हिसाब लिया जाएगा। यदि आप अभी भी एक परिवार विशेष में जन्म लेने के कारण, और बचपन से ही अपने धर्म और डिनॉमिनेशन की रीतियों और परम्पराओं का पालन करने के कारण अपने आप को मसीही समझ रहे हैं, तो आपको भी बाइबल के तथ्यों के प्रति अपनी गलतफहमियों से बाहर निकलने और परमेश्वर का वचन जो कहता है उसे जानने, समझने, और पालन करने की आवश्यकता है, न कि उसका निर्वाह करने की जो आपका मत या डिनॉमिनेशन कहता और सिखाता है। इसलिए यदि आप अभी तक मसीह यीशु के समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी शिष्य नहीं बने हैं, तो समय तथा अवसर के रहते आज ही, अभी ही, धर्म-कर्म-रस्म की व्यर्थ धारणा एवं मान्यता से निकलकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह की वास्तविक शिष्यता में आना और उसे निभाना अनिवार्य है। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जब परलोक में आँख खुले तब पता लगे कि जिस धर्म तथा उसकी बातों का सारे जीवन बड़ी निष्ठा से निर्वाह करते रहे उससे कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ, और अब उस गलती को सुधारने का कोई अवसर पास नहीं है; अब तो केवल अनन्तकाल का दण्ड ही मिलेगा। अभी समय रहते अपने जीवन में इन अनिवार्य बदलावों को कर लीजिए; इससे पहले कि कुछ भी कर पाने का समय और अवसर जाता रहे।

 

यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों की क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास यह कर लेने का समय और अवसर है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

In the previous articles we have seen that Biblically speaking, to be a follower of the Lord Jesus is not the following of any religion, neither is it familial or inherited, i.e., by virtue of being born in a particular family, no one automatically becomes a Christian Believer. The Lord Jesus Christ never started any religion, nor did He ever teach or instruct anybody about starting a religion in His name. Christ Jesus never told His disciples to do any religious conversions, nor did He ever say that through the fulfillment of certain rituals and ceremonies people can be declared as His followers. He never assured anyone nor promised at any time that those who become His disciples, their future generations too would automatically become, or will be accepted as His disciples. It is an evident Biblical fact that whosoever wants to become a follower of the Lord, he has to personally, willingly take this decision; he has to sincerely repent of his sins, ask forgiveness for them from the Lord Jesus Christ, has to accept and believe in the sacrifice the Lord Jesus made on the Cross of Calvary, in His being buried and being resurrected on the third day; and he has to accept the Jesus Christ as Lord, submit his life to Him, decide to live in obedience to Him and His Word - this is being saved or being Born-Again, and no one can even see the Kingdom of God, let alone enter it, unless they are Born-Again (John 3:3, 5, 7). Being Born-Again is the beginning, the first step of the person’s life of Christian Faith. From here onwards, for the rest of his life the person continues to learn God’s Word and living in obedience to the Word of the Lord, learns to walk under the guidance of Holy Spirit who resides in Him, and the Lord gradually changes him bit by bit into His own likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18); the person grows and matures in his life of Christian Faith.

The Lord Jesus Christ, during His days of ministry on earth, chose twelve disciples from amongst those who used to keep following and moving with Him, and He called these twelve Apostles (Luke 6:13). For about three and a half years the Lord taught these twelve and trained them for their future ministry of preaching the gospel all over the world; after Judas Iscariot went away, the Lord added the Apostle Paul to them. He entrusted the responsibility of going out into the world to preach and teach the gospel of forgiveness of sins and salvation to these twelve Apostles. This by itself shows that the Lord’s discipleship is not a mere formality, nor something without a purpose. At the time the Lord had chosen those twelve, He had a special purpose for them, and He prepared them with that purpose in mind - to be His witnesses, the ministers of His gospel amongst all people of the whole world. This purpose and its methodology is very succinctly but beautifully given in Mark 3:13-15 “And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons”. In these verses the Lord has stated three purposes for His disciples; the order in which He has given these purposes is also very important, because we see that each purpose builds upon the previous one and is a step forward in maturity, responsibility, and ability. These three purposes, given in verses 14 and 15 are:

    * that they might be with Him (v. 14)

    * that He might send them out to preach (v.14)

** Be available to be sent out

** Go when and where the Lord asks them to go

** Be ready to preach as the Lord asks them to preach

    * to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons (v.15)

This also brings out a very important aspect of the Lord’s - no work of the Lord God is ever without a purpose. Moreover, as the Lord Jesus said for God the Father, thousands of years after completing the creation, God is still at work in it, and similarly, the Lord Jesus too is continually at work, “But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working."” (John 5:17). Even today the Lord Jesus is still working; He is working for us as our advocate (1 John 2:1); He is preparing a place in heaven for us, “In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Just as the Lord God is always at work, similarly, for every Christian Believer, He has determined some work or the other, which the Believer is to do and fulfill, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). In fact, this principle of God, for man to work, was given with the creation of man; God planted the Garden of Eden for Adam, but to look after and maintain that garden was Adam’s responsibility (Genesis 2:8, 15). Therefore, to be Christian Believer does not mean or imply that he should not work and labor, and only expect from God and the Assembly or Church to meet his physical needs and requirements. A disciple of Christ has to work for his living and needs.

In the coming days, we will be considering the above mentioned Lord’s purposes for His disciples in some detail. But for now, it is essential for us that we follow the truths and facts of the Christian faith as taught by the Lord Jesus. On the basis of the teachings of God's Word the Bible, we must carefully examine and evaluate the wrong teachings and false notions that have been preached, taught, and spread about Christianity, and come out of the deception that has been spread by Satan in the name of Christ Jesus as a religion. We need to understand that Christian discipleship is for a purpose, and eventually there will be an accounting of what has been done or not been done by everyone. If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start learning, understanding, and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. 

Therefore, if you have not yet become an obedient and surrendered disciple of the Lord Jesus, then come out of the mentality of thinking yourself to be righteous because of your religion-works-rituals and truly become a disciple of the Lord Jesus. Lest when your eyes open in the next world, you come to realize that the religion and its related rituals you so diligently observed throughout your life were vain, had no benefits, and now there is no opportunity left to make amends for your errors; all that you have is suffering the penalty for eternity. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

बाइबल के अनुसार मसीहियत - विश्वास या ईसाई धर्म?

पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार, प्रभु यीशु का अनुयायी होना किसी धर्म का पालन करना नहीं है, वरन स्वेच्छा और सच्चे एवं पूर्णतः समर्पित मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह का आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बनना स्वीकार करना है, और फिर उन का अनुसरण करते हुए, जैसा वे कहें और सिखाएं, वैसा जीवन जीना है। हमने प्रेरितों 9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22 से देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह के आरंभिक अनुयायी किसी विशेष नाम से नहीं जाने जाते थे, वरन लोगों द्वारा उन्हें “पंथ” या “मत” के लोग कहा जाता था, न कि किसी धर्म के मानने वाले। फिर प्रेरितों 11:26 से हमने देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों को पहली बार अंताकिया में “मसीही” कहा गया; और वहाँ से यह नाम मसीह यीशु के शिष्यों के साथ जुड़ गया। कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार मसीही विश्वासी होना प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य होना है, और एक विशिष्ट जीवन शैली के अनुसार जीना है; न कि किसी धर्म और उसके रीति रिवाजों और नियमों का पालन करना। साथ ही इस तथ्य में यह भी निहित है कि कोई भी किसी का शिष्य बनकर कभी जन्म नहीं लेता है; हर कोई स्वेच्छा से, अपनी समझ-बूझ के अनुसार अपना व्यक्तिगत निर्णय लेने से ही किसी का शिष्य बनता है। इसी प्रकार, संसार की सामान्य धारणा के विपरीत, किसी भी परिवार विशेष में जन्म ले लेने से कोई मसीही नहीं हो जाता है। वरन हर किसी को अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा कलवरी के क्रूस पर समस्त संसार के सभी लोगों के पापों के लिए दिए गए बलिदान, और उनके मृतकों में से पुनरुत्थान को स्वीकार करते हुए, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों की क्षमा माँगकर, उसे अपना उद्धारकर्ता और प्रभु स्वीकार करना होता है, अपना जीवन स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से उसे समर्पित करना होता है। इसे ही उद्धार या नया जन्म पाना कहते हैं - नश्वर सांसारिक जीवन से अविनाशी आत्मिक जीवन में परमेश्वर की संतान बनकर जन्म लेना (यूहन्ना 1:12-13); और इसके बिना कोई परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करना तो दूर, उसे देख भी नहीं सकता है (यूहन्ना 3:3, 5, 7)। मसीही विश्वासी होना कोई धर्म परिवर्तन करना नहीं है, वरन यह व्यक्ति के मन का परमेश्वर की ओर परिवर्तन है।

प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य, पतरस के द्वारा परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य और अगुवाई में यरूशलेम में परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था के अनुसार पर्व और बलिदानों के निर्वाह के लिए संसार भर से एकत्रित हुए “भक्त यहूदियों” (प्रेरितों 2:5) के मध्य किया गया वह प्रचार दर्ज है जिसके फल स्वरूप प्रभु यीशु के अनुयायियों की पहली मण्डली ने जन्म लिया। इस पूरे प्रचार में हम कहीं भी किसी धर्म परिवर्तन की बात नहीं देखते हैं - किसी से नहीं कहा गया कि वह अपना यहूदी या कोई अन्य धर्म छोड़कर ईसाई धर्म में आ जाए। वरन सभी से मन फिराव अर्थात पापों से पश्चाताप करने के लिए कहा गया। पतरस ने उन्हें परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में “धर्मी” ठहरने के लिए अपने जीवनों सात व्यावहारिक बातों का समावेश करने के लिए कहा। प्रेरितों 2:38-42 में जिस क्रम में ये बातें दी गईं, उसी क्रम का पालन करते हुए, ये सात बातें हैं: (i) मन-फिराव अर्थात पापों से पश्चाताप करना, (ii) प्रभु यीशु मसीह के नाम से बपतिस्मा लेना, (पद 38); (iii) अपने आप को “टेढ़ी जाति” अर्थात भ्रष्ट और पतित संसार से पृथक रखना, (पद 40); (iv) प्रेरितों से शिक्षा पाना, अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करना, (v) अन्य मसीही विश्वासियों के साथ संगति रखना, (vi) रोटी तोड़ना अर्थात प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होना, (vii) प्रार्थना करते रहना (पद 42)। पद 42 यह भी बताता है कि उस आरंभिक मण्डली के लोग, इन अंतिम चार बातों में “लौलीन” रहते थे। दुर्भाग्यवश, मसीही विश्वास के इस मूल और वास्तविक स्वरूप को बिगाड़ कर, उसे मसीही या ईसाई धर्म बना देने वालों ने, और इस ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वालों ने इन सात बातों को न केवल एक रस्म पूर्ति की बात, एक औपचारिकता बना दिया है, वरन अपनी ही समझ के अनुसार, अपनी ही ओर से कई अन्य बातें भी जोड़ दी हैं, तथा साथ ही परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बातों के स्थान पर उन लोगों के द्वारा गढ़ी गई बातों का पालन अनिवार्य बना दिया है। और आरंभिक मसीही विश्वासियों की मण्डली के ये सात गुण अब लोगों के लिए धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के औपचारिक निर्वाह की बातें बन कर रह गए हैं।

शैतान की इस चाल ने मसीही विश्वास के नाम पर लोगों को इस औपचारिकता के निर्वाह में फंसा कर परमेश्वर के वचन की वास्तविकता से दूर करके, उन्हें मसीही विश्वासी के स्थान पर मसीही या ईसाई धर्म का - जिसका उल्लेख भी बाइबल में नहीं है, मानने वाला कर दिया है। उनकी अपनी ही गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता तथा उनके द्वारा अन्यजाति रीति-रिवाज़ों, त्यौहारों आदि का मसीह के नाम से मानना, मनाना, और सिखाना चाहे कितने ही लगन और उत्साह के साथ क्यों न हो, व्यर्थ है (मत्ती 15:9; यशायाह 1:14; गलातियों 4:10-11)। ऐसे लोग परमेश्वर के नाम से और अपनी समझ के अनुसार परमेश्वर के लिए कुछ भी करें, वह सब निरर्थक एवं अनुपयोगी है, प्रभु परमेश्वर को पूर्णतः अस्वीकार्य है (मत्ती 7:21-23)।

मसीही विश्वास का ईसाई धर्म बना देने की शैतान चाल का एक और व्यापक और दूरगामी दुष्प्रभाव है। अनुपात में, ईसाई धर्म के विभिन्न रूपों को मानने और मनाने वालों की तुलना में, सच्चे मसीही विश्वासियों की संख्या बहुत कम है; इसलिए संसार के सामने मसीह यीशु के अनुयायियों के रूप में अधिकांशतः वे ही लोग आते हैं जिनके जीवनों में न सच्चा पश्चाताप है और न वास्तविक परिवर्तन। वे अपने आप को मसीही तो कहते हैं, किन्तु उनके जीवन में मसीह की सच्ची शिष्यता के स्थान पर सांसारिकता और संसार की बातें ही दिखाई देती हैं। उनका यह पाखण्ड फिर संसार के लोगों के लिए ठोकर का कारण बनता है (रोमियों 2:21-24); इसलिए संसार के लोगों के मध्य मसीही विश्वास के प्रति एक अनुचित और बहुत गलत गवाही प्रसारित होती रहती है। जिसके कारण संसार के लोग सुसमाचार के सच्चे प्रचार, महत्व, और पालन पर भी संदेह करते हैं, उसे अस्वीकार करते हैं, और मसीह यीशु पर विश्वास करने, उद्धार पाने, तथा शैतान के जंजाल से निकल पाने से वंचित रह जाते हैं।

इसलिए परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के आधार पर भली-भांति जाँच-परख कर, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा सिखाए गए सच्चे मसीही विश्वास और मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़े गए ईसाई धर्म के मध्य भिन्नता की पहचान करना बहुत आवश्यक है, ताकि सच्चाई का पालन किया जाए (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21) न कि शैतान द्वारा मसीह यीशु के नाम से बनाए और फैलाए गए भ्रम का। और समय तथा अवसर के रहते आज ही, अभी ही, धर्म-कर्म-रस्म की व्यर्थ धारणा एवं मान्यता से निकलकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह की वास्तविक शिष्यता में आना और उसे निभाना अनिवार्य है। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जब परलोक में आँख खुले तब पता लगे कि जिस धर्म का सारे जीवन भर बड़ी निष्ठा से निर्वाह करते रहे उससे कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ, और अब उस गलती को सुधारने का कोई अवसर पास नहीं है; अब तो केवल अनन्तकाल का दण्ड ही मिलेगा। 

यदि आप अभी भी संसार के साथ और संसार के समान जी रहे हैं, या परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने के लिए धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के निर्वाह की मानसिकता में भरोसा रखे हुए हैं, तो आज और अभी आपके पास अपनी अनन्तकाल की स्थिति को सुधारने का अवसर है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Biblical Christianity - Faith or Religion?

In the earlier articles we have seen that according to God’s Word, the Bible, to be a follower or disciple of the Lord Jesus is not to be a follower of any religion. Rather, it is a willingly taken decision to sincerely become a committed disciple of the Lord Jesus, surrender one’s life to Him, and live a life of obedience to Him. We have seen from Acts 9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22 that the initial Believers in the Lord were not known as followers of any religion, nor were they known by any particular name of their group, but they were addressed as people of “the way” or of a “sect”. Then we saw from Acts 11:26 that the disciples of Christ Jesus were called “Christians” for the first time in Antioch; and from there this name got attached to the disciples of Lord Jesus. The implication is evident, that according to God’s Word, the Bible, to be a Christian Believer is to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus, to live according to a particular life-style, different from the rest of the world. It does not mean to be the adherent or follower of any man-made religion and its rules, regulations, and rituals. Another fact that is implied here is that no one is ever born as anyone's disciple; everyone decides to become someone’s disciple voluntarily, willingly, having well considered the matter. Similarly, contrary to the understanding of the world, nobody becomes a Christian in the true Biblical sense, by being born in a particular family. Everybody who wants to be a Christian, a disciple of Christ Jesus, has to repent of their sins, has to decide to accept the sacrifice done on the Cross of Calvary by the Lord Jesus Christ for the redemption of their sins, have to ask forgiveness for their sins from the Lord Jesus, has to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and surrender one’s life to Him to live in obedience to His Word. Taking this decision and living by it is known as being saved or being Born-Again - being born out of the perishing world and sinful worldly life, into eternal spiritual life, as a child of God by faith (John 1:12-13). Without this no one can even see the Kingdom of God, let alone enter it (John 3:3, 5, 7). To become a Christian Believer is not to change or convert anyone’s religion; it is changing or converting one’s heart and mind towards God.

In Acts chapter 2, the first gospel message preached by the disciple of the Lord Jesus, Peter, under the power of the Holy Spirit, to the “devout Jews” (Acts 2:5) gathered in Jerusalem to fulfill the feasts and carry out the sacrifices given in the Law of God, is recorded. The first Church or Assembly of Christian Believers was born as a result of this preaching. In this pivotal message, nowhere do we find the mention of any conversion from one religion to another - nowhere do we find that anyone was told that they ought to leave their Jewish or any other religion and come into the Christian religion. Rather, all of them were asked to repent of their sins. Peter told them to include seven things in their life to become righteous in the eyes of God and to be reconciled with Him. These seven things are given in Acts 2:38-42, and in the order they have been mentioned there, these seven things are: (i) Repent, have a change of heart and mind; (ii) be Baptized in the name of Lord Jesus (verse 38); (iii) to Separate out and stay away from the ‘perverse generation’ i.e., the corruption of the world (verse 40); in verse 42 are four things to be continually involved in (iv) learning God’s Word from the Apostles, i.e., regular Bible study; (v) stay in Fellowship with other Christian Believers; (vi) be regularly involved in ‘Breaking of Bread’ i.e., in the Holy Communion; (vii) to continue to Pray. This verse 42 states that the members of that first Church did these last four things “continually.” But very unfortunately, this basic simple Christian faith has been corrupted and altered by the followers of the Christian religion, these seven things have been turned into a ritual, a religious formality. Moreover, these people have added many other things according to their own wisdom and understanding to these seven things, and instead of the things of the Word of God, they have made the observance and obedience to things added by them, necessary and compulsory. They have relegated the seven integral things steadfastly followed by the initial Christian assemblies a mere formality, a part of thinking to be righteous through fulfilling religion-works-rituals. Therefore, today the vast majority of the so-called “Christians” think that by ritualistically observing and carrying out these seven things, by virtue of fulfilling the requirements of their religion or denomination, by doing religious works, by carrying out their denominational religious rituals and ceremonies, they have become righteous and acceptable to God, and God is now bound to accept them into His Kingdom - a patently false notion which has eternally doomed countless number of people to hell

This devious ploy of Satan, of turning many away from the truths of God’s Word, by trickery and false teachings, into fulfilling rituals and religious formalities, has corrupted the Christian faith into the Christian religion, and has made people into followers of a religion that is not even mentioned in the Bible, instead being followers and disciples of the Lord Jesus. In favor of this contrived religion, they observe and celebrate many self-ordained rituals, feasts, and celebrations to feel “righteous”; they have adopted many pagan festivals and practices, and very zealously and enthusiastically celebrate them in the name of Lord Jesus, never realizing, or even if told about it, never wanting to learn how vain all of this is (Matthew 15:9; Isaiah 1:14; Galatians 4:10-11). These people may do whatever they feel like, with any fervor, but it is all meaningless, useless, and totally unacceptable to God (Matthew 7:21-23).

There is another long-term harmful effect of Satan’s devious ploy of turning the Christian faith into the Christian religion. Consider the fact, that the total number of people all over the world, following and celebrating the various forms of this unBiblical Christian religion, vastly outnumber the true, Biblical, Christian Believers, all over the world; i.e., the number of true Christian Believers is very small in comparison to the number of the followers of the Christian religion. Therefore, most often people of the world get to see and learn of Christianity from the life and practices of those who have never repented of their sins and have never accepted Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior, i.e., are not Christians in the true Biblical sense. Instead of the true Biblical Christianity, this vast majority of unregenerate people who are also known as “Christians' present a false picture of Christianity to the world, a picture that is quite different from what the Bible teaches and presents. This unBiblical presentation of “Christianity” then becomes a stumbling block and cause for opposing Christianity for the people of the world (Romans 2:21-24). Because of this, the people of the world doubt even the sincere preaching of the gospel by the true Believers, and cannot bring themselves to believe in accepting the gospel, they refuse to accept the life-changing effects of the gospel and God’s Word, and remain entangled in the Satan’s net, heading towards eternal destruction.

Therefore, it is very essential to examine and evaluate everything according to the Word of God, the Bible (1 Thessalonians 5:21), and discern the truth, learn of the difference between the true Christian faith and the contrived Christian religion, so that we follow only the Biblical truth, and not the deception being preached and propagated by Satan in the name of Christ Jesus. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में अलगाव - कैसे?

पिछले लेखों में हम पिन्तेकुस्त के दिन, पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाने के बाद पतरस द्वारा यरूशलेम में एकत्रित हुए “भक्त यहूदियों” को किए गए सुसमाचार प्रचार के प्रभावों को देखते आ रहे हैं। मसीह यीशु पर लाए गए विश्वास से प्राप्त होने वाली पापों की क्षमा, उद्धार, और मसीही शिष्यता से संबंधित सात व्यावहारिक बातों को पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पतरस ने उनके सामने रखा, जिन्हें हम प्रेरितों 2:37-42 में से देख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने इन सात में से अंतिम, और लिखे गए क्रम के अनुसार तीसरी बात - मसीही विश्वासी के संसार और सांसारिकता की बातों से अपने आप को अलग करने के बारे में देखना आरंभ किया था। हमने देखा था कि ऐसा करना कितना महत्वपूर्ण है, और प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी में आकर निवास करने वाला पवित्र आत्मा ऐसा करने में उसकी सहायता करता है। किन्तु मसीही विश्वास को मसीही या ईसाई धर्म बनाकर धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के पालन करने की धारणा रखने वाले, पतरस द्वारा कही गई क्रम की पहली बात - मन फिराओ अर्थात पश्चाताप करो, और क्रम की यह तीसरी बात - अपने आप को संसार और सांसारिकता के व्यवहार से पृथक करो पर न तो कोई विशेष ध्यान देते हैं और न ही मसीही शिष्यता के जीवन में इनके महत्व एवं अनिवार्यता को लोगों को सिखाते हैं। 

मसीही विश्वास के प्रचार और प्रसार के आरंभिक समय में, प्रेरित पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में स्थित मसीही मण्डली को लिखा “अविश्वासियों के साथ असमान जूए में न जुतो, क्योंकि धामिर्कता और अधर्म का क्या मेल जोल? या ज्योति और अन्धकार की क्या संगति? और मसीह का बलियाल के साथ क्या लगाव? या विश्वासी के साथ अविश्वासी का क्या नाता? और मूरतों के साथ परमेश्वर के मन्दिर का क्या सम्बन्‍ध? क्योंकि हम तो जीवते परमेश्वर का मन्दिर हैं; जैसा परमेश्वर ने कहा है कि मैं उन में बसूंगा और उन में चला फिरा करूंगा; और मैं उन का परमेश्वर हूंगा, और वे मेरे लोग होंगे। इसलिये प्रभु कहता है, कि उन के बीच में से निकलो और अलग रहो; और अशुद्ध वस्तु को मत छूओ, तो मैं तुम्हें ग्रहण करूंगा। और तुम्हारा पिता हूंगा, और तुम मेरे बेटे और बेटियां होगे: यह सर्वशक्तिमान प्रभु परमेश्वर का वचन है” (2 कुरिन्थियों 6:14-18)। यह दिखाता है कि संसार और सांसारिकता से पृथक रहना मसीही विश्वासी के लिए कितना महत्वपूर्ण है, और अनिवार्य है। पतरस प्रेरित ने इसके विषय लिखा “हे प्रियो मैं तुम से बिनती करता हूं, कि तुम अपने आप को परदेशी और यात्री जान कर उस सांसारिक अभिलाषाओं से जो आत्मा से युद्ध करती हैं, बचे रहो” (1 पतरस 2:11)। 

थिस्सलुनीकिया की मसीही मण्डली के मसीही विश्वासियों के विश्वास और व्यवहार की सराहना करते हुए पौलुस प्रेरित ने उनके जीवन में आए परिवर्तन और उनके द्वारा अपनी पुरानी बातों को छोड़कर सुसमाचार प्रचार करने तथा प्रभु की बातों पर मन लगाने के बारे में सराहना करते हुए लिखा “और तुम बड़े क्‍लेश में पवित्र आत्मा के आनन्द के साथ वचन को मान कर हमारी और प्रभु की सी चाल चलने लगे। यहां तक कि मकिदुनिया और अखया के सब विश्वासियों के लिये तुम आदर्श बने। क्योंकि तुम्हारे यहां से न केवल मकिदुनिया और अखया में प्रभु का वचन सुनाया गया, पर तुम्हारे विश्वास की जो परमेश्वर पर है, हर जगह ऐसी चर्चा फैल गई है, कि हमें कहने की आवश्यकता ही नहीं। क्योंकि वे आप ही हमारे विषय में बताते हैं कि तुम्हारे पास हमारा आना कैसा हुआ; और तुम कैसे मूरतों से परमेश्वर की ओर फिरे ताकि जीवते और सच्चे परमेश्वर की सेवा करो। और उसके पुत्र के स्वर्ग पर से आने की बाट जोहते रहो जिसे उसने मरे हुओं में से जिलाया, अर्थात यीशु की, जो हमें आने वाले प्रकोप से बचाता है” (1 थिस्स्लुनीकियों 1:6-10)। 

तो क्या इसका तात्पर्य है कि मसीही विश्वासी को संसार के साथ कोई संपर्क, कोई व्यवहार, कोई मेल-जोल या बातचीत नहीं रखनी है; वरन अपने आप को सभी से बिल्कुल अलग-थलग कर के एक सन्यासी के समान जीवन बिताना है? नहीं! परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल यह भी नहीं कहता है; और ऐसी धारणा रखना भी बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप नहीं है। प्रभु यीशु ने स्वयं अपने शिष्यों से कहा कि वे सारे जगत में जाकर मसीह यीशु में विश्वास द्वारा सेंत-मेंत उपलब्ध पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के सुसमाचार के संदेश को बताएं। यदि प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य संसार के लोगों से मिलेंगे-जुलेंगे नहीं, उनसे संपर्क नहीं रखेंगे, तो फिर प्रभु की यह आज्ञा कैसे पूरी करेंगे? पौलुस जब अथेने में अपने साथियों के आने की बाट जोह रहा था, तो यहूदियों और अन्यजाति लोगों से चर्चाएं किया करता था, उन्हें सुसमाचार सुनाया करता था “जब पौलुस अथेने में उन की बाट जोह रहा था, तो नगर को मूरतों से भरा हुआ देखकर उसका जी जल गया। सो वह आराधनालय में यहूदियों और भक्तों से और चौक में जो लोग मिलते थे, उन से हर दिन वाद-विवाद किया करता था। तब इपिकूरी और स्‍तोईकी पण्‍डितों में से कितने उस से तर्क करने लगे, और कितनों ने कहा, यह बकवादी क्या कहना चाहता है परन्तु औरों ने कहा; वह अन्य देवताओं का प्रचारक मालूम पड़ता है, क्योंकि वह यीशु का, और पुनरुत्थान का सुसमाचार सुनाता था” (प्रेरितों 17:16-18)। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस प्रेरित ने कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखा “मैं ने अपनी पत्री में तुम्हें लिखा है, कि व्यभिचारियों की संगति न करना। यह नहीं, कि तुम बिलकुल इस जगत के व्यभिचारियों, या लोभियों, या अन्धेर करने वालों, या मूर्तिपूजकों की संगति न करो; क्योंकि इस दशा में तो तुम्हें जगत में से निकल जाना ही पड़ता” (1 कुरिन्थियों 5:9-10)। 

इन सभी बातों के आधार पर हम यह निष्कर्ष निकाल सकते हैं कि मसीही विश्वासी के लिए पृथक होकर रहने का अर्थ सन्यास ले लेना, अथवा सभी लोगों से हर प्रकार का संपर्क एवं व्यवहार समाप्त कर देना नहीं है। वरन, मसीही विश्वासियों को संसार के लोगों के समान और सांसारिकता की मानसिकता नहीं रखनी है, उनके सदृश्य नहीं बनना है (रोमियों 12:2)। प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने शिष्यों को संसार में रहते हुए किस प्रकार व्यवहार रखना है सिखाया, जो स्पष्ट करता है कि उन्हें संसार के लोगों के साथ संपर्क रखना था, उनके बीच में अपनी सच्चाई और खराई के कारण एक गवाह बन कर रहना था। प्रभु संसार के लोगों के घरों में जाता था, उनके साथ खाता था, उनसे बातचीत करता था (मत्ती 9:11; 11:19 लूका 5:30; 15:2; 19:7), किन्तु उसने कभी भी उन लोगों के सोच-विचार, व्यवहार को अपने ऊपर हावी नहीं होने दिया, कभी भी परमेश्वर के वचन की आज्ञाकारिता और उसके अनुरूप व्यवहार के साथ कोई समझौता नहीं किया। प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को संसार के लोगों के मध्य एक गवाही का जीवन जीने के लिए कहा: “तुम पृथ्वी के नमक हो; परन्तु यदि नमक का स्वाद बिगड़ जाए, तो वह फिर किस वस्तु से नमकीन किया जाएगा? फिर वह किसी काम का नहीं, केवल इस के कि बाहर फेंका जाए और मनुष्यों के पैरों तले रौंदा जाए। तुम जगत की ज्योति हो; जो नगर पहाड़ पर बसा हुआ है वह छिप नहीं सकता। और लोग दिया जलाकर पैमाने के नीचे नहीं परन्तु दीवट पर रखते हैं, तब उस से घर के सब लोगों को प्रकाश पहुंचता है। उसी प्रकार तुम्हारा उजियाला मनुष्यों के सामने चमके कि वे तुम्हारे भले कामों को देखकर तुम्हारे पिता की, जो स्वर्ग में हैं, बड़ाई करें” (मत्ती 5:13-16)। इसका परिणाम होगा “अन्यजातियों में तुम्हारा चालचलन भला हो; इसलिये कि जिन जिन बातों में वे तुम्हें कुकर्मी जान कर बदनाम करते हैं, वे तुम्हारे भले कामों को देख कर; उन्‍हीं के कारण कृपा दृष्टि के दिन परमेश्वर की महिमा करें” (1 पतरस 2:12)।

मसीही विश्वास का जीवन एक व्यवहारिक जीवन है, निरंतर हर बात में प्रभु यीशु की आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने, और अपनी हर बात के द्वारा परमेश्वर को महिमा देते रहने का जीवन है “सो तुम चाहे खाओ, चाहे पीओ, चाहे जो कुछ करो, सब कुछ परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिये करो” (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:31)। किन्तु यदि आप अभी भी संसार के साथ और संसार के समान जी रहे हैं, या परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने के लिए धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के निर्वाह की मानसिकता में भरोसा रखे हुए हैं, तो आज और अभी आपके पास अपनी अनन्तकाल की स्थिति को सुधारने का अवसर है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Christian Believer’s Separation from the World - How?

We have been looking at the effects of the gospel preached by Peter on the day of Pentecost, to the devout Jews gathered in Jerusalem, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We have seen seven things from Acts 2:37-42 that are a feature of the Christian life after coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, receiving the forgiveness of sins, salvation, and becoming a disciple of Christ. In the last article we had started to consider the seventh of these things, a Christian Believer’s life of separation from the world and the ways of the world. We had seen how important this life of separation is, and that God the Holy Spirit residing within the Christian Believer helps him to do this. But, as we have already seen, those who believe in the Christian religion and think of being righteous through the following their religion, doing religious works, fulfilling rituals and ceremonies, they have converted five of these seven things into ritualistic formalities, doing away with their true meaning, significance and application in the Believer’s life. They pay scant attention, if any, to the remaining two, i.e., to repentance and to separation from the world. The importance and necessity of these two are never diligently taught and realistically emphasized upon the congregation by the religious leaders of the Christian religion.

In the initial phase of the preaching and spreading of the Christian faith, the apostle Paul wrote to the Assembly of the Christian Believers in Corinth, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people." Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty."” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). This passage shows how important and necessary it is for a Christian Believer to stay separated from the world and ways of the world. The apostle Peter wrote about this, “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11).

Paul, appreciating and commending the life and behavior of the Christian Assembly in Thessalonica, wrote about this separation they had exhibited “And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:6-10).

Then, does this mean that a Christian Believer has to have no contact, no interaction, no company or conversation with the people of the world? Are they supposed to keep away from the world as an ascetic? No! God’s Word the Bible does not say this at all; neither is having any such notion in accordance with the Biblical teachings on this subject. The Lord Jesus Himself has commanded His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel of forgiveness of sins and salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus. If the disciples of the Lord Jesus do not meet and interact with the people of the world, nor remain in touch with them, how can they fulfill the Lord’s command? When Paul was waiting for his colleagues to join him in Athens, he spent his time meeting and discussing with the Jews and Gentiles, preaching the gospel to them, “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. Therefore, he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods," because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection” (Acts 17:16-18). Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote to the Believer’s Assembly in Corinth, “I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world” (1 Corinthians 5:9-10).

In view of the above teachings and passages from God’s Word the Bible, we can understand that the command to be separated from the world for Christian Believer is not a command to become an ascetic, nor is it to be understood as a commandment to cut himself off from every contact and interaction with the world. Rather, they have been commanded to stay away or separated from the mentality and life of the world and worldly people, not be conformed to them (Romans 12:2). The Lord Jesus Christ, during His stay in the world, demonstrated and taught to His disciples how this has to be done. He went to their houses, ate with them and talked with them (Matthew 9:11; 11:19; Luke 5:30; 15:2; 19:7), but never let their way of thinking and living gain an upper hand, never compromised on His values and obedience to God’s Word. The Lord asked His disciples to live an exemplary life amongst the people of the world, one that would witness to their faith in Him, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:13). The effect of their leading such a life will be, “having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:12).

The life of Christian Believer should be a life of practically living and demonstrating the faith, a life that glorifies God through every aspect of life, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). But if you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now.
