हमने पिछले लेखों में, 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:25-26 से देखा है कि प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों के लिए यह निर्धारित किया था कि वे उसकी यादगार के लिए प्रभु भोज में भाग लेंगे, और रोटी तथा प्याले को उनके लिए, अपनी तोड़ी गई देह था बहाए गए लहू के चिह्न ठहराया था। यहाँ पर पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु को याद करने से संबंधित एक और तथ्य को भी उजागर करता है; प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने में निहित है कि भाग लेने वाला, प्रभु के आने तक, उसकी मृत्यु का प्रचार भी करेगा। दूसरे शब्दों में, भाग लेने वाला जानता है, मानता है, और फिर से पुष्टि करता है कि वह प्रभु की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान का गवाह है, उसे औरों को यह गवाही देनी है, यह परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई ज़िम्मेदारी है, और जब वह प्रभु के सामने खड़ा होगा तब प्रभु को इसका हिसाब भी देगा। प्रभु की मेज़ के इस अभिप्राय के बारे में हम पिछले लेख में देख चुके हैं।

अपने पाठकों को इन बातों के बारे में याद दिलाने के बाद, पौलुस पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:27 में, प्रभु की मेज़ से संबंधित एक बहुत गंभीर तथ्य को प्रस्तुत करता है। इस तथ्य के बारे में सामान्यतः कलीसियाओं में, विशेषकर डिनॉमिनेशन से संबंधित कलीसियाओं में, जहाँ पर लोग प्रभु भोज में भाग बारंबार दोहराई जाने वाली रीति के समान लेते हैं, शायद ही कभी बताया या सिखाया जाता है। ये लोग रीति के समान भाग लेने के द्वारा यह मान कर संतुष्ट और प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं कि यह कर लेने के द्वारा परमेश्वर के साथ उनके संबंध ठीक हो गए हैं, अब उन्होंने अपनी डिनॉमिनेशन की प्रथा को पूरा कर लिया है। इस पद में पौलुस गलती में पड़ी कलीसिया के सामने उनके प्रभु भोज में गलत रीति से भाग लेने और इस कारण से इसके लिए उनके प्रभु यीशु को उत्तरदायी होने के तथ्य को रखता है। ध्यान कीजिए कि पौलुस इसे एक संभावना के तौर पर नहीं लिखता है, वरन एक स्थापित सत्य के समान कहता है; न ही वह यह कहता है कि केवल कुछ ही लोग, जैसे कि वे जो बारंबार गलती करते हैं, या जिनके जीवनों में इसके अतिरिक्त भी कुछ अन्य गलतियाँ पाई जाती हैं, आदि, उन्हीं के लिए जवाबदेही होगी। वरन, पौलुस लिखता है, “जो कोई”, अर्थात, जिसने भी, कभी भी, चाहे एक बार या चाहे बारंबार, अनुचित रीति से भाग लिया है, वह प्रभु की देह और लहू का दोषी ठहर चुका है। प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वालों ने यह अपने डिनॉमिनेशन, मत, या समूह की रीति के अनुसार किया होगा; किन्तु यदि उन्होंने परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार “अनुचित रीति से” भाग लिया है, तो चाहे वे अपनी रीति के अनुसार सही भी हों, फिर भी प्रभु की देह और लहू के दोषी हैं। यह हमारे सामने इस वाक्यांश “अनुचित रीति से” के अर्थ एवं अभिप्राय को समझने की अनिवार्यता को रखता है।

ध्यान कीजिए कि यहाँ पर पद 27 का आरंभ “इसलिए” के साथ होता है, जो यह दिखाता है कि आने वाली बात, इससे पहले की बात पर आधारित है। पद 27 के कथन से पहले, पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा, पद 25-26 में दो बातों पर जोर दिया है। पहली यह कि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना किसी भी अन्य उद्देश्य से नहीं वरन केवल प्रभु को याद करने ही के लिए हो, जैसा कि स्वयं प्रभु यीशु ही ने कहा था; और दूसरी बात, भाग लेना अपने आप में यह निश्चित करता है कि भाग लेने वाला प्रभु के आने तक प्रभु की मृत्यु का प्रचार करेगा, अर्थात उसका गवाह बनकर रहेगा। जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “अनुचित रीति से” किया गया है, मूल यूनानी भाषा में वह है “एनाक्सिऑस” और इसका शब्दार्थ होता है किसी बात या चीज़ को, जैसा उसका वास्तव में है, उससे भिन्न मूल्य या वज़न लगाना या बताना। इससे हम यह समझ सकते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु द्वारा प्रभु भोज को दिए गए अर्थ और अभिप्राय से भिन्न किसी भी अर्थ अथवा अभिप्राय के साथ उसमें भाग लेना, “अनुचित रीति से” भाग लेना है।

हम पद 25-26 में देखते हैं कि प्रभु की मेज़ का विषय या ध्यान पूर्णतः केवल प्रभु यीशु पर ही केंद्रित है। मेज़ में भाग लेना उसकी यादगार में होना है, उसकी देह के तोड़े जाने और लहू के बहाए जाने के उद्देश्य को ध्यान करते हुए होना है, प्रभु की मृत्यु के प्रचार के लिए होना है। इसमें किसी भी अन्य बात का न तो कोई उल्लेख है और न ही संभावना है, विशेषकर किसी मनुष्य से संबंधित किसी भी बात की तो बिल्कुल भी नहीं। इस पद के आरंभ के “इसलिए” के संदर्भ में, यदि कोई भी प्रभु यीशु को याद करने और उसकी मृत्यु का प्रचार करने, अर्थात उसका समर्पित और विश्वासयोग्य गवाह होने, के अतिरिक्त, किसी भी अन्य उद्देश्य से यदि भाग लेता है, तो वह “अनुचित रीति से” भाग लेना होगा। जो लोग इसमें प्रभु पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने की बजाए, अपने ऊपर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हुए, कि भाग लेने से वे धर्मी हो जाएंगे, या परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य हो जाएंगे, या स्वर्ग में प्रवेश पाने के योग्य बन जाएंगे, या अपने मत अथवा डिनॉमिनेशन के धार्मिक अगुवों को प्रसन्न करने वाले बन जाएंगे, इत्यादि, बातों को मानते हुए भाग लेते हैं, वे प्रभु भोज पर अपने ही मन-गढ़ंत धारणाएं थोप रहे हैं, उसे ऐसे अर्थ और अभिप्राय दे रहे हैं जो प्रभु यीशु ने कभी नहीं कहे अथवा दिए; और प्रभु की देह और लहू के दोषी हैं। जो पाठक इन लेखों को पहले से पढ़ते आ रहे हैं, उन्हें ध्यान होगा कि पिछले लेखों में कितनी ही बार इस बात को ज़ोर देकर कहा गया था कि सामान्य, विशेषकर डिनॉमिनेशन के अनुसार चलने वाली कलीसियाओं, की धारणाओं और मान्यताओं के विपरीत, प्रभु भोज का उद्देश्य भाग लेने वाले को धर्मी, या परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य, या स्वर्ग में प्रवेश करने के योग्य बनाना कदापि नहीं है। आज के इस लेख से उन्हें और भी स्पष्ट हो जाना चाहिए कि किसी डिनॉमिनेशन अथवा मत या समुदाय द्वारा दी जाने वाली ऐसी कोई भी शिक्षा बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है, बिल्कुल गलत है, और तुरन्त उसे पूर्णतः तिरस्कार कर देना चाहिए।

अगले लेख में हम उचित रीत से प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के बारे में देखेंगे। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Participating Unworthily

 

       We have seen in the previous articles, from 1 Corinthians 11:25-26, that the Lord Jesus commanded partaking the Holy Communion for His disciples in remembrance of Him, called the bread and the cup symbols of His body broken for them and blood shed for them. The Holy Spirit, here, through Paul also brings out another fact to this remembrance of the Lord; inherent in participating in the Lord’s Table is the fact that the participant also proclaims the death of the Lord, till He comes. In other words, the participant knows, accepts, and affirms that he is to witness the Lord’s death and resurrection, it is his God given responsibility, and he will give an account of this to the Lord when he stands before Him. We have seen about this aspect of the Lord’s Table in the previous article.

       After reminding his readers about these things, in 1 Corinthians 11:27, Paul under the guidance of the Holy Spirit presents a very serious aspect of the Lord’s Table; one that is hardly ever emphasized, or taught, in most Churches, especially where people participate in the Holy Communion as a recurring ritual, and feel satisfied that having done so now they are right with God, for now they have fulfilled their denominational requirement. In this verse Paul puts before the errant Church the fact of doing wrong about participating in the Holy Communion and therefore being accountable for it, to the Lord Jesus. Note that Paul does not state this as a possibility, but as an established fact; neither does he say that it will be only for certain people, e.g., those who do keep doing it over and over again, or those in whose lives certain other things besides this error are also seen. Paul says “whoever”, i.e., anyone, at any time, whether once or repetitively, participates in an unworthy manner, without any exception, becomes guilty of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus. The participants in the Holy Communion may have done it according to the teachings or practices of their denomination, sect, or group; but if they have done it in an “unworthy manner” according to the Word of God, despite being ritually and denominationally correct, they are guilty of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus. This places before us the necessity of understanding what the phrase “unworthy manner” means and denotes.

       Note that here, verse 27 begins with “Therefore”, making it conditional that what follows, is a consequence or result of what has been stated before it. Before the statement of verse 27, in verses 25 and 26, the Holy Spirit through Paul has emphasized two things - first, the partaking in the Lord’s Table has to be done, for nothing else but in remembrance of the Lord, as the Lord Himself had said; and secondly, the partaking by itself mandatorily places upon the partaker the responsibility of proclaiming the Lord’s death till He comes, i.e., of witnessing for the Lord. The word translated as “unworthy manner” or “unworthily”, in the original Greek language is “anaxios”, which literally means to weigh or value something differently from what it actually is, i.e., ascribe a different value or meaning to the thing, than the actual value or meaning. So, we can see from this that participating in the Holy Communion in any manner, or with any purpose or intention, other than originally given or ascribed to it by the Lord Jesus, is participating in an unworthy manner, or unworthily.

From verses 25-26 we see that the focus of the Lord’s Table is not any man, but the Lord Jesus Himself. Participation has to be in His remembrance, to remember the purpose of His body being broken and blood being shed, and to proclaim the Lord’s death. There is no mention or scope of anything else, particularly anything related to any other person, for whatever else. In context of the “Therefore” at the beginning of the verse, anyone participating in it for any purpose other than remembering the Lord and proclaiming the death of the Lord, i.e., affirming being the Lord’s committed and faithful witness, till He comes, is participating unworthily. Those who participate in it with focus not on the Lord but on themselves, thinking it will make them righteous, or acceptable to God, or worthy of entering heaven, or pleasing in the eyes of their religious elders and leaders, etc. are concocting and ascribing their own contrived meanings to the Holy Communion; meanings not given to it by the Lord Jesus, and are guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. Those who have been reading these articles and following their contents, can recall that it has been said many times in these articles that contrary to the popular thinking and belief, particularly amongst the denominational Churches, the Lord’s Table is not meant to make the participants righteous, or acceptable to God, or worthy of entering heaven. This should now make it clear to them, why this has repeatedly been emphasized, and why any such denominational teaching is unBiblical, wrong, and to be discarded out-rightly.

In the next article we will see about participating worthily, or in the correct manner. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पौलुस द्वारा कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया को लिखी गई पहली पत्री में से प्रभु भोज के बारे में अध्ययन करते हुए, हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है कि मसीही विश्वासी को, अपने उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करते हुए, परमेश्वर पर सदा भरोसा रखने और उसके प्रति धन्यवादी रहने वाला होना चाहिए, हर परिस्थिति में, हर बात के लिए, चाहे वह प्रसन्न करने वाली हो या दुख देने वाली, समझ में आए अथवा न आए; हमेशा ही अपने विश्वास के लंगर को रोमियों 8:28 पर डाले रखना चाहिए। 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:26 में, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस मसीही विश्वास के एक अन्य अनोखे गुण को सामने लाता है - प्रभु की मृत्यु का प्रचार करना। पौलुस यहाँ पर लिख रहा है कि जब भी मसीह यीशु के अनुयायी प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते हैं, तो साथ ही स्वतः ही वे प्रभु की मृत्यु का भी प्रचार करते हैं, जब तक कि वह न आए। इस पद के अंत की ओर दिया गए वाक्यांश, “जब तक वह न आए” का तात्पर्य है कि यद्यपि प्रभु मारा गया था, परंतु अभी वह जीवित है, और एक दिन फिर से वापस आएगा, अर्थात इस वाक्यांश में प्रभु यीशु मसीह का पुनरुत्थान और लौट कर आना भी निहित है।

इसलिए, प्रभु की मेज़ प्रभु यीशु मसीह के मारे जाने, गाड़े जाए और जी उठने की यादगार है। जब कोई प्रभु भोज में भाग लेता है, तो वह प्रभु यीशु को याद करने के लिए यह करता है, और साथ ही वह प्रभु यीशु के मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने, जी उठने की गवाही भी देता है। भाग लेने वाले को यह गवाही देने के लिए अलग से कुछ विशेष करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है; यह उनके द्वारा मेज़ में भाग लेने के साथ ही जुड़ा हुआ है, उसमें निहित है। दूसरे शब्दों में, जो भी प्रभु भोज में भाग ले, वह इस एहसास के साथ भाग ले कि उसमें भाग लेने के द्वारा वह प्रभु यीशु के मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने और जी उठने की गवाही भी दे रहा है। परमेश्वर की दृष्टि और आँकलन में, वह यह सहमति व्यक्त कर रहा है कि वह अपने और समस्त संसार के उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु का संसार के सामने गवाह होकर जीने के लिए तैयार है, और वह अपने जीवन को इस एहसास तथा उद्देश्य के साथ जीएगा। प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते समय वह व्यक्ति एक बार फिर से उस पर प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के द्वारा डाली गई इस ज़िम्मेदारी की पुष्टि करता है और उसे निभाने की स्वीकृति देता है।

संसार के किसी भी अन्य धर्म, विश्वास, या मान्यता के विपरीत, केवल मसीही विश्वास ही है जो उसके केन्द्रीय, या, मुख्य व्यक्ति - प्रभु यीशु मसीह, के जन्म एवं जीवन पर नहीं, परन्तु उसकी मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान पर आधारित है। थोड़ा सा आगे चलकर पौलुस प्रभु यीशु की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान के महत्व एवं अभिप्रायों पर एक लंबा वृतांत लिखता है, इस पत्री के 15 अध्याय में, और पाठकों के लिए इस 15 अध्याय को अध्ययन करना अच्छा रहेगा। इस 15 अध्याय का निष्कर्ष और उपसंहार है कि यदि मसीह यीशु का पुनरुत्थान नहीं हुआ होता, अर्थात, यदि प्रभु यीशु मसीह मारे, गाड़े, और जी उठे नहीं होते, तो फिर मसीही विश्वास का कोई आधार ही नहीं है, यह सब व्यर्थ प्रचार और गवाही देना है, उसका कोई भविष्य नहीं है। किन्तु मसीह यीशु का पुनरुत्थान मसीही विश्वासियों को यह पूर्ण आश्वासन देता है कि प्रभु के समान उनका भी पुनरुत्थान होगा, प्रभु के साथ उन्हें भी अनन्त जीवन मिलेगा। यही तथ्य, अभी इस पृथ्वी पर, उन्हें प्रभु के गवाह और राजदूत बनकर (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:20; इफिसियों 6:20) मसीही जीवन जीने का आधार देता है, कि वे अपने आप को तथा उन्हें जिनके सामने वे इसकी गवाही देते हैं, प्रभु के साथ अनन्त जीवन जीने के लिए तैयार करें।

क्योंकि प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाला, स्वतः ही, प्रभु यीशु की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान की गवाही देता है, इसलिए जब पृथ्वी का उसका जीवन समाप्त होगा, तब उसे प्रभु के सामने खड़े होकर अपने जीवन का तथा उसे सौंपी गई जिम्मेदारियों का हिसाब भी प्रभु को देना होगा (प्रेरितों 17:30-31; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10)। यह प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाले पर एक बहुत गंभीर ज़िम्मेदारी डाल देता है; क्योंकि नीतिवचन 19:9 में लिखा है “झूठा साक्षी निर्दोष नहीं ठहरता, और जो झूठ बोला करता है, वह नाश होता है”, और हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:30 से देखते हैं कि यह बात कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली के उन लोगों के लिए सत्य भी हुई जिन्होंने अयोग्य रीति से मेज़ में भाग लिया। यह एक बार फिर से इस बात पर ज़ोर देता है कि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना कोई रीति अथवा रस्म नहीं है, क्योंकि यदि अनुचित प्रकार से इसमें भाग लिया जाए तो इसके गंभीर और हानिकारक परिणाम भी हैं; किन्तु यदि जिस प्रकार से प्रभु ने इसे स्थापित किया और सिखाया, यदि वैसे ही, उचित रीति से इसमें भाग लें, तो बहुत आशीष भी है।

The Lord’s Table - Witnessing His Death & Resurrection

      

In our study about the Holy Communion from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, we have seen in the last article that the Christian Believer, emulating his savior Lord Jesus Christ, like the Lord, should be one who trusts God and is thankful to Him, in and for every circumstance or situation, whether it pleasing or distressing, understandable or not understandable; anchoring himself and his faith on Romans 8:28. In 1 Corinthians 11:26, Paul, through the Holy Spirit, presents another unique feature of the Christian Faith - the proclamation of the Lord’s death. Paul says here that whenever the followers of Christ Jesus partake of the Lord’s Table, they also automatically proclaim the Lord’s death, till He comes. This ending phrase of the verse “till He comes”, implies that though the Lord had died, but He is alive now, and will come again someday, i.e., gives assurance of the resurrection and return of the Lord Jesus.

Therefore, the Lord’s Table is a reminder of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. When one participates in the Holy Communion, it is in remembrance of the Lord, and as witnessing for the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. The participants do not have to make any extra or special efforts to do so, it is inherent in their participating in the Table, it is an implied fact of their participation. In other words, those who participate in the Holy Communion, should do so with the realization that through their participation they are also witnessing about the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection. In God’s eyes and assessment, they have agreed to be witnesses for their savior Lord in the world, and they agree to live their lives with this realization and for this purpose. They are participating in the Holy Communion to once again affirm their resolve about this responsibility that the Communion places upon them. While participating in the Holy Communion, the participant once again affirms the responsibility placed upon him by his participation, and agrees to fulfill it.

Unlike practically every other religion, belief, or faith of the world, the Christian Faith is founded not on the birth and life of its central or key figure - the Lord Jesus Christ; but on His death and resurrection. And a little ahead, Paul writes a detailed account of the significance and implications of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus - chapter 15 of this letter, and the readers would do well to study this chapter too. The theme and conclusion of chapter 15 is that if the resurrection of Christ Jesus did not happen, i.e., had Christ not died, been buried, and then resurrected, there is no basis of the Christian Faith, then it is all a false preaching and witnessing, and it has no future. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ assures the Believers in Christ, that they too will be resurrected to life, they too will have an eternal life with the Lord. It establishes the grounds of Christian living now, while alive on earth, as witnesses and Ambassadors of the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:20; Ephesians 6:20), who are preparing themselves and others, to whom they witness, for eternity with the Lord Jesus.

       Since the participant in the Holy Communion, automatically, is also a testifying witness to the Lord’s death and resurrection; he will also be called to account for this when at the end of his earthly life he stands before the Lord to give and account of his life and answer for what he had been trusted with (Acts 17:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:10). This places a grave responsibility upon every participant; for it is written in Proverbs 19:9 “A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish”, and we see from 1 Corinthians 11:30 that this had come upon those of the Corinthian Church who had participated unworthily. This again emphasizes why participating in the Lord’s Table cannot be taken lightly or as ritual, since it has serious implications and grave consequences if done inappropriately; but also has rich blessings if done in the manner and for the purpose it was established by the Lord.

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

रोटी के लिए धन्यवाद करना या आशीष माँगना वह ‘भोजन की प्रार्थना’ नहीं थी जो हम भोजन करने से पहले परमेश्वर से करते हैं, क्योंकि मुख्य भोजन तो आरंभ हो चुका था, और उसके लिए धन्यवाद या आशीष की जो भी प्रार्थना होनी चाहिए थी, वह पहली की गई होगी। साथ ही, प्रभु जो कर रहा था, वह केवल प्रतीक के रूप में था, न कि वह पूरा भोजन उन्हें दे रहा था। यही बात सुसमाचारों के वर्णन से भी प्रकट है, जहाँ पर भी स्पष्ट लिखा गया है कि उसने रोटी के लिए धन्यवाद किया या आशीष माँगी और फिर उसे तोड़ा, तथा उसे अपनी तोड़ी गई देह का चिह्न बताया। अर्थात, मतलब यही निकलता है कि प्रभु परमेश्वर का, उसके लिए धन्यवाद कर रहा था, उसे आशीष दे रहा था, जो थोड़ी देर में उसके साथ होने वाला था, उस दुख और पीड़ा के लिए, उसके द्वारा समस्त मानव जाति के सभी पाप अपने ऊपर ले लेने और स्वयं पाप बन जाने के लिए, मानव जाति के पापों के लिए उसकी देह के यातनाएं सहने और तोड़े जाने के लिए। स्वेच्छा से किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा यह सब करना कल्पना से बाहर है अविश्वसनीय है; किन्तु इसके लिए परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करना, आशीष देना कि उसने यह सब उसके साथ होने दिया, इन सब बातों और यातनाओं में से उसे निकलने दिया, समझा अथवा समझाया नहीं जा सकता है, यह मानवीय बुद्धि की सीमाओं से बाहर की बात है। लेकिन फिर भी यहाँ पर हम देखते हैं कि प्रभु अपने जीवन के व्यक्तिगत उदाहरण से हमें सिखाता है कि हर बात के लिए, हर परिस्थिति में परमेश्वर के धन्यवादी बने रहें; और एक बार फिर से, पहले स्वयं ऐसा कर के, फिर शिष्यों द्वारा उस कार्य को करने के लिए कहा।

The Lord’s Table - Always Trust God & Remain Thankful

 

We have seen in the earlier articles that to rectify the errors that had crept into the Corinthian Church because of their mishandling the Holy Communion, and thereby denigrating it, and also despising the Church (1 Corinthians 11:20-22); to bring them out of the situation they had got themselves into, the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul, recounts to them the manner of initiation of the Lord’s Table, by the Lord Jesus. We have seen here, as well as in the Gospel accounts, that the Holy Communion, though established with the elements, i.e., the bread and cup being used in the Passover meal, but it was a separate event by itself. The Holy Communion established by the Lord was not the Passover meal itself, but He did it during or after He and the disciples had eaten the Passover meal. Therefore, a bit of information presented here, as well as in the Gospel accounts, related to the Lord’s initiating the Holy Communion, is intriguing. It says here, in 1 Corinthians 11:23-24 that taking the bread, the Lord Jesus gave thanks, then broke it and gave it to the disciples as a symbol of His body broken for them. Luke also records it as giving thanks (Luke 22:19), while Matthew and Mark say that He blessed it (Matthew 26:26; Mark 14:22). Whether the Lord said thanks or whether He blessed it, essentially it conveys that the Lord was grateful to God for it; for a symbol of His body being broken for others, for the disciples who while sitting to have the Passover meal, were still quarrelling about who was greater amongst them (Luke 22:24), for the sinful people of the world.

The giving of thanks or blessing the bread could not be the ‘grace’ we say at the beginning of the meal; He could not be thanking God for the meal, nor could be blessing the food they were to partake, since the main meal had already begun, and thanks or blessings for it would have been done at its beginning. Moreover, what the Lord was doing was giving the disciples only a symbolic presentation, and not a full meal. Then, as is apparent from this as well as the Gospel accounts, it is specifically mentioned that He thanked or blessed the bread, and then called it the symbol of His body broken for them. So, in essence, the Lord was thanking God for, or blessing for what He would be going through and suffering in a short while, His taking up the sins of mankind upon Himself, becoming sin, the breaking of His body for the sins of mankind and mankind’s deliverance from sins. To voluntarily agree to suffer all this for others, in the place of others is by itself unimaginable for any person, but to be thanking God, blessing for permitting it to happen and lead through such excruciating experiences, is inexplicable, beyond human understanding. Yet, here the Lord through His personal example shows and teaches us to be thankful to God for everything, in all circumstances; once again by first demonstrating it through His own life, then to be emulated by His disciples.

The disciple of the Lord Jesus, a Born-Again Christian Believer has to follow the Lord’s example, and trust God that He will, in and through all experiences and circumstances, only do that, or get done that which is beneficial for His children; even though the thing may seem difficult to understand and painful at the moment; i.e., God will always fulfill Romans 8:28 for His people. This is something demonstrated by God’s people like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:16-30), Daniel (Daniel 6:12-28). Also, God has instructed that His people should always be rejoicing in Him, since the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10); and should always pray and bring our petitions to God with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:4, 6). The participants of the Lord’s Table should be the ones who always trust Him for everything, in all circumstances (2 Timothy 1:12), and are always thankful to Him, for whatever He may allow in our lives, however He may lead us in life. Partaking of the Lord’s Table should be a time of renewing our faith and trust in the Lord, of learning to be happy and rejoicing in the Lord always.

       पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए मूल स्वरूप को छोड़ कर, मनुष्यों द्वारा बदल दिए गए स्वरूप का पालन करने, परमेश्वर के वचन के स्थान पर मनुष्यों के वचन को महत्व देने, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता करने के कारण, मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के मार्गों से भटक जाते हैं। ऐसे में शैतान द्वारा उन्हें अनेकों प्रकार की गलतियों में डाल कर उन्हें परमेश्वर और उसकी आशीषों से दूर रखने का अवसर मिल जाता है। गलतियों में पड़े, परमेश्वर से दूर ये विश्वासी यही समझते रहते हैं कि वे सही मार्ग पर हैं, जब कि होते शैतान के मार्ग पर हैं। इसके सुधार का एक ही तरीका है – परमेश्वर के वचन को लौटना, उसी का पालन करना; न कि मनुष्यों द्वारा लाए गए परिवर्तनों पालन करना। आज हम इसी के बारे में कुछ और देखेंगे।

प्रेरितों 2 में, पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के पश्चात, पतरस जब यरूशलेम में एकत्रित हुए भक्त यहूदियों के सामने खड़े होकर, जो हो रहा था उसके बारे में उनके असमंजस और कौतूहल के निवारण के लिए बोलना आरंभ करता है, तब उनके सामने पवित्र शास्त्र में से संबंधित बातों और भविष्यवाणियों को लेकर आता है; अर्थात, परमेश्वर द्वारा उद्धार से संबंधित मूल बातों और भविष्यवाणियों को उन्हें स्मरण करवाता है। जब वह यह करता है तब लोगों के हृदय छिद जाते हैं, पतरस उनके सामने सुसमाचार को रखता है और 3000 लोग उद्धार पाते हैं। जब स्तिफनुस को ईश-निन्दा के झूठे आरोप लगाकर पकड़ा जाता है और यहूदियों के धर्म के अगुवों की सभा के सामने न्याय के लिए प्रस्तुत किया जाता है (यहूदियों 6:10-15), तब अपने पक्ष और बचाव को प्रस्तुत करते समय, प्रेरितों 7 में, स्तिफनुस उनके सामने इस्राएल के आरंभ से उनका इतिहास रखता है और दिखाता है कि किस प्रकार वे बारंबार परमेश्वर के वचन और मार्गों से भटकते रहे और गलतियाँ करते रहे, और उसी प्रवृत्ति के अंतर्गत उन्होंने प्रतिज्ञा और भविष्यवाणियां किए हुए मसीहा को भी मार डाला (प्रेरितों 7:51-53)। अर्थात, स्तिफनुस उन्हें उनके विश्वास और परमेश्वर के साथ संबंध की आधारभूत बातों पर लेकर जाता है और उनकी गलतियों को, परमेश्वर के वचन और मार्गों से भटकते रहने को, प्रकट करता है। ऐसी ही एक घटना यहोशू की पुस्तक के 7 अध्याय में भी दर्ज है; ऐ में इस्राएलियों की बहुत शर्मनाक और अनपेक्षित हार हुई थी, यहोशू इसके कारण बदहाल होकर परमेश्वर के सामने गिड़गिड़ाता है, उससे पूछता है कि ऐसा क्यों हुआ? प्रभु उसे सीधा उत्तर देकर दोषी व्यक्ति का नाम बता सकता था, किन्तु इसकी बजाए परमेश्वर यहोशू 7:14 में एक विधि देता है, समस्याओं के कारण को समझने और पहचानने की - मूल या आधारभूत बात से आरंभ कर के, बारी-बारी से हर एक बात को जाँचते और आँकलन करते चले जाओ, जब तक कि समस्या का कारण सामने न आ जाए। यहोशू परमेश्वर की विधि को कार्यान्वित करता है (यहोशू 7:16-18), और उनकी हार के लिए दोषी व्यक्ति प्रकट हो जाता है। आकान और उसके परिवार के पास अवसर था कि वे अपने पाप को मान लें, विशेषकर जब वे देख रहे थे कि बात उनकी ओर ही बढ़ रही है, किन्तु उन्होंने ऐसा नहीं किया, अपने अवसर को गँवा दिया, और अन्ततः परिणाम भुगतना पड़ा। अब, यहोशू पर कोई भी पक्षपात का या गलती कर देने का दोष नहीं लगा सकता था, और आकान के पास भी बचने का कोई मार्ग नहीं बचा था, उसे अपनी गलती को मानना और भुगतना ही पड़ा।

परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में हमें अपनी विधि दी है जिससे हम अपने जीवनों को गलतियों से बचाकर रखें और परमेश्वर के वचन से भटकने से बचे रहें - समय-समय पर अपने जीवन, व्यवहार, रवैये, और परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता की स्थिति का आँकलन करते रहें। प्रभु की मेज़ हमें यह अवसर प्रदान करती है कि हम प्रार्थना के साथ, प्रभु की उपस्थिति में, उसकी सहायता से, मेज़ में भाग लेने से पहले अपने जीवनों को जाँच लें। प्रभु जो भी पाप, गलतियाँ, कमियां-कमज़ोरियाँ हमारे सामने लाए, उन्हें मान कर, स्वीकार कर के, उनके लिए क्षमा मांग कर, फिर योग्य रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लें, प्रभु से आशीष पाएं। हमारे द्वारा सुसमाचार की मूल, आधारभूत बातों की ओर लौट कर आना और उनके अनुसार आपने जीवन को जाँचना, हमें प्रभु के निकट और घनिष्ठ संगति में बनाए रखने में बहुत सहायक होगा, और हमें शैतान और उसकी युक्तियों से, उसके चंगुल में फँसने से बचाए रखेगा।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Back to Basics & Self-Examination (2)

 

       In the previous article we had seen that Christian Believers, by turning away from the original form of God given things, and following their man-modified forms, by giving more importance to man’s word, instead of God’s Word, lose their way and go away from God. In such situations, Satan gets the opportunity to keep them away from God and His blessings. These Believers, on the wrong path, keep thinking they are on the correct way, whereas, they actually are on Satan’s way. There is only one way to correct this situation – return back to God’s Word, obey it; instead of following and obeying man’s modifications. Today we will consider this some more.

In Acts 2, after receiving the Holy Spirit, when Peter stands up to address the devout Jews gathered in Jerusalem for the feasts, to clear their confusion and curiosity about what was happening, Peter recounts to them from their Scriptures the pertinent prophecies recorded by God, i.e., takes them back to the basics of the prophecies related to salvation written in the Scriptures. As he does so, the people are convicted in their hearts and Peter presents the Gospel to them, and 3000 are saved. When Stephen is caught on trumped up charges of blasphemy, and is brought before the council of the Jewish religious leaders to be judged (Acts 6:10-15), then, in putting up his defence, in Acts 7, Stephen recounts to them the history of Israel from its inception, to show them how they have repeatedly erred from the Word and ways of God, and in that same error have crucified the promised and prophesied Messiah (Acts 7:51-53); i.e., Stephen takes them back to the basics of their faith and relationship with God to expose their deviating from God’s Word and falling away from God’s ways. A similar instance is recorded in the book of Joshua chapter 7; Israel suffered an unexpected and humiliating defeat at Ai, Joshua is distraught about it, is pleading to the Lord to show why this happened. Lord could have given him the name of the guilty person straightaway, instead God gives in Joshua 7:14 the method of zeroing down to identifying the problems - review and analyze step-by-step starting from the basics, the very root, and carrying on till the current, till the problem is identified. Joshua implements God’s method (Joshua 7:16-18) and the culprit for the defeat is exposed. Achan and his family had the opportunity to confess straightaway, or even in between, as they saw the process zeroing in towards them. But they did not do so, wasted away their opportunity, and eventually had to pay the penalty. No one could accuse Joshua of any partiality or mistake or wrongdoing, and Achan too had no avenue of escape left, he had to confess his wrong doing and suffer for it.

God in His Word, has given to us His method for us to keep our lives free from errors and slipping up on God’s Word - periodically keep reviewing and analyzing ourselves, our behavior, our attitude, our living, our state of obedience to the Lord and His Word, etc. The Lord’s Table provides to us an opportunity to prayerfully, in the presence of the Lord, with His help, to review our lives before partaking of the Holy Communion, confess the sins, errors, and short-comings the Lord brings up before us, ask His forgiveness for them and then to go ahead and participate worthily, and be blessed by the Lord. Our returning back to the basics of the Gospel and our faith and reviewing our life accordingly will go a long way to keep us in close fellowship with the Lord, and safe from Satan and his ploys.

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है कि पाप कलीसिया में अपने घातक परिणाम ले आया, और शैतान को कलीसिया को विभाजित करने, उसमें तबाही मचाने का अवसर मिल गया। उसके प्रभाव में आकर लोग कलीसिया को तुच्छ जान रहे थे, प्रभु की मेज़ के दुरुपयोग और उसकी गलत समझ रखने के द्वारा वे प्रभु भोज का अपमान कर रहे थे, किन्तु उन्हें लगता था कि वे ठीक हैं और भक्ति का जीवन बिता रहे हैं। गलतियों को सुधारने के लिए, पवित्र आत्मा, पौलुस के द्वारा, उन्हें प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा प्रभु भोज के आरंभ किए जाने पर लेकर जाता है, और उनके सामने प्रभु द्वारा उसे स्थापित करने को दोहराता है, जिससे वे मेज़ के सही स्वरूप को जान और समझ सकें और उसका अनुसरण उसी प्रकार से करने लगें, जिस स्वरूप में प्रभु ने उसे स्थापित किया था। यह माना जाता है कि पौलुस ने यह पत्री लगभग 59 ईसवी में लिखी थी, अर्थात, प्रभु के मारे जाने और जी उठने के लगभग 25-26 वर्ष के बाद। इसलिए प्रभु की मेज़ के स्थापित किए जाने को दोहराना, सुसमाचारों में दिए गए इसके वर्णन की पुष्टि और अनुमोदन करता है, क्योंकि यहाँ पर भी वैसा ही वर्णन दिया गया है जैसा सुसमाचारों में लिखा हुआ है। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23-25 से देखते हैं कि “प्रभु यीशु ने जिस रात वह पकड़वाया गया” (पद 23) प्रभु भोज की स्थापना की, और यही हम सुसमाचारों में भी लिखा हुआ पाते हैं। साथ ही यह फसह के भोजन से भिन्न था, जैसा कि यहाँ पर भी लिखा हुआ है कि प्रभु ने यह “बियारी के पीछे” (पद 25) अर्थात मुख्य भोजन के बाद किया था। यहाँ पर भी प्रभु द्वारा रोटी और दाख रस के कटोरे के लिए एक-वचन में ही बताया गया है, एक रोटी, एक कटोरा; जो इस बात का भी संकेत है कि यह केवल प्रतीक के रूप में था, संपूर्ण भोजन करना नहीं, जैसा पद 25-26 में लिखा है, प्रभु यीशु के बलिदान की यादगारी में।

यह हमारे सामने परमेश्वर के वचन में से, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई एक विधि को लाता है, जो मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए अपने जीवनों को जाँचने और सुधारने, तथा कलीसिया को ठीक रखने के लिए है - लौट कर मूल या आरंभ पर जाओ, देखो और समझो कि परमेश्वर ने पहली बार बात को कैसे, किस रीति से किया था। वर्तमान में जो हो रहा है उसकी तुलना आरंभिक के साथ करो, और फिर परमेश्वर द्वारा किए गए के अनुसार उसे सुधारो और ठीक करो। हमने इससे पहले देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी आराधना से संबंधित बातों के लिए बहुत विशिष्ट है, और उसे केवल वही स्वीकार्य है जो उसने कहा है, और वह भी केवल वैसे ही जैसे उसने कहा है, अन्य कुछ भी नहीं। इसलिए जो कुछ भी परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित करके दिए गए नमूने से भिन्न है, उससे भटक गया है, वह परमेश्वर को अस्वीकार्य है, और उसे परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने तथा फिर से आशीष का कारण बनने के लिए उसी स्वरूप में लाना पड़ेगा जो परमेश्वर ने बनाकर दिया था, बताया था।

परमेश्वर के वचन में इस बात का केवल यही एक उदाहरण नहीं है। इससे थोड़ा आगे 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 में हम देखते हैं कि इस पत्री के समापन की ओर आते हुए, पौलुस, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में उनके सामने मूल सुसमाचार संदेश को दोहराता है। इस पूरी पत्री में पौलुस उन्हें उनकी गलतियाँ दिखाता और उन्हें सुधारने के तरीके बताता आया है। और अब, एक संक्षिप्त सामान्य समीक्षा के रूप में, पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस को निर्देशित करता है कि उन्हें दिखाए कि उनकी सभी गलतियों का मूल कारण, मूल समस्या है कि उन्होंने सुसमाचार, जो उनके उद्धार और प्रभु के लोग बनकर उसके साथ जुड़े रहने का आधार है, के आधारभूत स्वरूप की अवहेलना करना आरंभ कर दिया है। क्योंकि वे सुसमाचार के तथ्यों और तात्पर्यों से भटक गए हैं, इसलिए बजाए प्रभु की ओर देखते रहने के, वे मनुष्यों की ओर देखने और उनकी सुनने वाले बन गए है, जिससे फिर शैतान को अवसर मिल गया है कि वह उनके मध्य गलत शिक्षाएं और झूठे सिद्धांत फैलाए। गलातिया के मण्डली को लिखी गई अपनी पत्री में (गलातियों 2:1-10)। पौलुस कहता है कि वह “ईश्वरीय प्रकाश के अनुसार” यरूशलेम गया था, अर्थात, परमेश्वर के कहने पर, कि यरूशलेम जाकर वहाँ पर अगुवों के साथ उस सुसमाचार को साझा करे जिसका प्रचार वह अन्य-जातियों के मध्य करता था, और उसकी समीक्षा करवाए। यद्यपि जो प्रचार वह करता था उसमें कुछ भी कमी या गलती नहीं निकली (2:6), लेकिन फिर भी परमेश्वर की ओर से यह तय किया गया कि समीक्षा की जाए। लेकिन इससे पौलुस और बरनबास को न केवल यरूशलेम में कलीसिया के अगुवों से अनुमोदन और समर्थन प्राप्त हो गया, बल्कि उन्हें उन लोगों का समर्थन और सहभागिता भी प्राप्त हुई।

       अगले लेख में हम वचन से इसी बात के और उदाहरण देखेंगे, और आज हमारे लिए इस के व्यावहारिक उपयोग को देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Back to Basics & Self-Examination (1)

 

We have seen in the previous articles that sin had brought its disastrous consequences into the Church, and provided Satan the way to break up the Church, wreak havoc in it. Under its influence people were despising the Church, and denigrating the Lord’s Table by misusing and mishandling it, while thinking they were okay and behaving in a godly manner. To rectify the errors, the Holy Spirit through Paul, takes them back to the initiation of the Holy Communion by the Lord Jesus, and recounts to them the manner in which the Lord established the Communion, so that they could then follow it, do it in the proper manner, as established by the Lord. It is believed that Paul wrote this letter in A.D. 59, i.e., about 25-26 years after the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Therefore, this recounting of the institution of the Lord’s Table, serves to affirm and authenticate the Gospel accounts, since the details remain the same. We see from 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 that the Lord established the Holy Communion “on the same night in which He was betrayed” (verse 23), and as we have seen from the Gospel accounts, it was not the same as the Passover meal, as it says here it was done “after supper” (verse 25), and it was done using the elements of the Passover. Also, the Lord took a bread and a cup of grape juice, here too, stated in singular, again affirming that whenever the disciples participated in the Lord’s Table, it was not to be done as a full-fledged meal, but in a symbolic manner, as is written here in the text of verses 25-26, to be done in remembrance of the Lord’s sacrifice.

This brings before us a God given method, recorded in His Word, for checking and correcting errors in the life of the Believers, and the functioning of the Church - go back to the initiation, see how God did it or had it done the first time, compare with what is happening now, and then take the corrective measures to restore what God had said and done. We had seen in an earlier article that God is very particular about His worship and only what He has said, what He has ordained, is acceptable to Him, nothing else. Therefore, anything that has deviated away from God’s established pattern and method, has become unacceptable to the Lord, will have to be restored back to its God ordained form and manner for it to become acceptable to the Lord and again become a source of blessings.

This is not the only instance of such a pattern being given or used in God’s Word. A little later, in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, as he comes towards concluding this letter, through the Holy Spirit, Paul recounts to them the basic Gospel. Throughout this letter, from the very beginning, he has been pointing out to them their errors and the way to correct them. Now as a general summation of it all, the Holy Spirit directs Paul to show them that the basic problem with them is that they have started overlooking the basic Gospel, the basis of their salvation and association with the Lord as His people. Since they had deviated away from the fact and implications of the Gospel, therefore, instead of looking to the Lord, they had started to look up to men and listen to them, providing Satan an opportunity to spread wrong teachings and false doctrines amongst them. In his letter to the Galatians (Galatians 2:1-10), Paul says that he went “by revelation” i.e., under instructions from God, to Jerusalem to share with them, to have a review with the elders in Jerusalem about the gospel he was preaching amongst the Gentiles. Although there was nothing wrong found in what he was preaching (2:6), but yet God deemed it necessary that a review be done. But this also provided an opportunity for Paul and Barnabas to not only have the approval but also the support and fellowship of the Church elders in Jerusalem.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
