    पिछले लेख में हमने पाप के प्रति परमेश्वर के व्यवहार पर विचार करते हुए, इब्रानियों 12:5-11 से देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी सन्तान को, अर्थात वास्तव में पापों से पश्चाताप कर के, उन की क्षमा प्राप्त करके, परमेश्वर के आज्ञाकारी और समर्पित जन बनकर जीवन जीने वाले लोगों की, जब आवश्यक होता है, उन्हें पाप से दूर करने के लिए उनकी ताड़ना भी करता है। मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में प्रभु की यह ताड़ना, उसके परमेश्वर की सन्तान होने का एक प्रमाण और पुष्टि है। साथ ही उनके लिए, जो परमेश्वर के लोग होने का दावा तो करते हैं, परन्तु सांसारिकता और पाप का जीवन जीते हैं, उनकी ताड़ना न होना, वास्तव में उनके परमेश्वर की सन्तान नहीं होने का भी प्रमाण है। आज हम इसी बात और इसके बहुत गम्भीर तात्पर्य को देखेंगे।

    यद्यपि यह एक बहुत कटु और चौंका देने वाली बात है, किन्तु बाइबल से समर्थन के बिना नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य भी उदाहरण हैं, जो दिखाते हैं कि बहुत से लोगों ने यह मान लिया है कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं, किन्तु परमेश्वर ने कभी भी उन्हें अपने लोग होने के लिए न तो जाना और न ही कभी स्वीकार किया, वे चाहे जो भी कहते या करते रहें। मत्ती 7:21-23 इस बात का एक उदाहरण है; इन पदों में जिन लोगों के बारे में कहा गया है वे अपने आप को परमेश्वर के लोग मानते थे, उनका मानना था कि वे परमेश्वर के लिए कार्य कर रहे हैं, किन्तु अंत में जाकर प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि वे कुकर्म करने वाले हैं और प्रभु ने उन्हें कभी नहीं जाना। इसी प्रकार से, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए दस कुँवारियों के दृष्टांत में (मत्ती 25:1-12), वे पाँच मूर्ख कुँवारियाँ समझती थीं कि वे प्रभु के साथ की हैं, किन्तु 25:12 में प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि “मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, मैं तुम्हें नहीं जानता।” हम लूका 13:23-30 में भी देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने लोगों को पूर्व-धारणा रखते हुए यह मान कर चलते रहने के प्रति सचेत किया कि वे प्रभु के लोग हैं। प्रभु ने उनसे कहा कि अंत के दिन बहुत से होंगे जो यह कहेंगे के वे प्रभु के साथ चलते-फिरते थे, रहते थे, इसलिए वे भी प्रभु के लोग हैं, परंतु प्रभु उन्हें कभी भी जानने के उनके दावे से इनकार कर देगा। परमेश्वर का वचन यह भी दिखाता है कि इस सिक्के का दूसरा पहलू भी है, परमेश्वर पहले से ही जानता है कि उसके लोग कौन हैं (यूहन्ना 10:27; 2 तीमुथियुस 2:19), और किसी को भी सिवाए परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में चलते रहने के अतिरिक्त और कुछ भी विशेष करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। उनका यही करना भर ही संसार के सामने प्रमाणित कर देगा कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23; 1 यूहन्ना 2:3-6)। यूहन्ना और तीमुथियुस से लिए गए ये पद हमें वास्तव में परमेश्वर के लोग होने की पहचान करने के गुणों को दिखाते हैं।

    इस समझ और पहचान के द्वारा हम जान सकते हैं कि क्यों ऐसे बहुत से लोग जो अपने आप को ईसाई या मसीही विश्वासी कहते हैं, किन्तु संसार के साथ समझौते का जीवन जीते हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते हैं, किन्तु कभी प्रभु द्वारा उनकी ताड़ना नहीं होती है, वे अपने जीवन और व्यवहार में ऐसे चलते रहते हैं मानों उन्होंने कभी कुछ गलत किया ही नहीं है। ऐसा इसलिए होता है क्योंकि अपने ईसाई या मसीही होने के सभी दावों के बावजूद, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में वे उसके बच्चे, उसके लोग हैं ही नहीं! चाहे वे अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहें, बहुत भक्ति और धर्म-निर्वाह का जीवन व्यतीत करें, अपनी तथा संसार की दृष्टि में बहुत “धर्मी” हों, किन्तु परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में और उसके आँकलन के अनुसार, वे उसकी संतान या उसके लोग नहीं हैं; इसलिए वह उनके साथ अपने बच्चों के समान व्यवहार नहीं करता है, उनके गलत व्यवहार के लिए उनकी ताड़ना नहीं करता है। वह उनसे अंत में न्याय के समय व्यवहार करेगा, जैसे कि वह संसार के सभी अविश्वासियों के साथ करेगा। तब तक वो जो चाहे करते रहें, लेकिन उनका अपने आप को “मसीही” कहना उन्हें वैसे “मसीही” नहीं बनाता है, जैसा परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उसके लोग हों। परमेश्वर की संतान, उसके लोग होने के लिए, उनमें वे गुण होने चाहिएं जो हमने ऊपर यूहन्ना और तिमुथियुस से लिए गए वचन के हवालों में देखे हैं। अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:31-32 से अपने आप को जाँचने तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा जाँचे जाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (4)

    In the previous article, while considering about God dealing with sin, we had seen from Hebrews 12:5-11 that, to draw them away from sin, as and when it is necessary, God even chastises His children, i.e., those who have truly repented of their sins, have received forgiveness for them, and live in obedience and surrender to God. This chastening from God for a Christian Believer, is also a proof and affirmation, of their being God’s children. At the same time, for those who claim to be the people of God, but live a life of worldliness and sin, their not being chastised, is a proof that they are not the children of God. Today, we will consider about this very serious matter and its implications.

    Though this is a very strong and shocking statement, but it is not without Biblical support. There are other instances in God’s Word that show that many people have assumed themselves to be God’s people, but God had never known or accepted them as His people, whatever they may have said or done. Matthew 7:21-23 is one such example; the people mentioned here thought they were God’s people, working for God, but at the end the Lord calls them those who practice lawlessness and declares that He never knew them. Similarly, in the parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-12), the five foolish virgins thought they were part of the Lord’s party, but in 25:12, the Lord tells them, ‘I do not know you.’ Again, in Luke 13:23-30, the Lord Jesus warned against being presumptive and clearly told that eventually there will be many who will claim that they too were God’s people and moved around with Him, but the Lord will refuse to accept their claim and deny ever knowing them. God’s Word also says that on the flip side, God already knows those who are His people (John 10:27; 2 Timothy 2:19), no one has to do anything other than live a life of obedience to God and His Word, abide in Him, and that by itself will show to the world that they are God’s people (John 14:21, 23; 1 John 2:3-6); these verses from John and Timothy also give us the criteria to know and recognize who actually are God’s people.

    Through this insight we can understand why many people who live a life of compromise with the world, partake of the Lord’s Table unworthily, are never chastened or judged by the Lord, and they continue in their life and behavior as if they were doing nothing wrong. It is because in God’s eyes, despite all their claims to the contrary, they are not His children! Though they call themselves “Christians”, though they may be very pious and religious, very “righteous” in their own eyes as well as the eyes of the world, but in God’s eyes and in God’s evaluation, they are not His children, so He does not deal with them as His children, does not chasten them for their wrong behavior. He will deal with them at judgment time, as He will deal with every other unbeliever of the world; till then they can do what they want, but their claiming to be “Christians” does not make them the “Christians” God wants people to be. To be God’s people, they have to have the characteristics we saw above from the references taken from John and Timothy. In the next article we will look into 1 Corinthians 11:31-32, about judgment, self as well as God’s.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर की संतान, नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के लिए, सच्चे पाप अंगीकार और पश्चाताप का अर्थ है नाम-बनाम विशिष्ट पापों को मान लेना, उनके लिए वास्तविकता में प्रभु के सामने दुखी और पश्चातापी होना, और उनसे दूर हो जाने या उन्हें अपने जीवन से निकाल देने का निर्णय करना। एक औपचारिकता के समान, पुस्तक से या पादरी की पीछे-पीछे रस्म की विधि के अनुसार, पुस्तक में छापे हुए शब्दों को बोलते और दोहराते रहना, वह पाप अंगीकार तथा पश्चाताप नहीं है जिसकी बात 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:28 कर रहा है, और न ही यह वह “प्रभु की देह को पहचानना” है जो पद 29 का अभिप्राय है। इसलिए, इस रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना, वह भाग लेना नहीं है जो परमेश्वर का वचन करने को कहता है, वरन यह करना वास्तव में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेना है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि बाइबल के अनुसार, या तो पाप परमेश्वर के द्वारा क्षमा किया जाएगा, अन्यथा परमेश्वर उसका न्याय करेगा, दण्ड देगा। पाप के साथ व्यवहार करने का और कोई तरीका नहीं है।

परमेश्वर अपनी क्षमा प्रदान करने के लिए न तो किसी मनुष्य की सिफारिश को स्वीकार करता है (यशायाह 1:11-15; यिर्मयाह 7:16; 11:14; 14:11-12; यिर्मयाह 15:1; यहेजकेल 14:14-20), और न ही वह अपने द्वारा आँकलन के लिए मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाए गए तरीकों अथवा मानकों का प्रयोग करता है। व्यक्ति के पापों के क्षमा किए जाने के लिए, उसके द्वारा किया गया पाप अंगीकार और पश्चाताप परमेश्वर के मानकों के अनुसार, परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए तरीके से होना चाहिए, और परमेश्वर को, जो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की भीतरी वास्तविक स्थिति को भली-भांति जानता है, उसके पश्चाताप के लिए आश्वस्त होना चाहिए, केवल तब ही परमेश्वर उसे क्षमा करेगा। इसलिए कोई भी, कभी भी पापों के लिए क्षमा मिलने को हल्के में नहीं ले सकता है, यूं ही उसे मान कर नहीं चल सकता है। विशेषकर वे तो कदापि नहीं जो केवल बाहरी रीति से कुछ क्रिया-कलापों, रीतियों को निभाते हैं, जबकि जो वे पाप अंगीकार तथा पश्चाताप के बारे में बोल और कर रहे हैं उसमें उनका मन खराई से कभी होता ही नहीं है। वे तो बस यही सोच और मान कर चलते हैं कि अब क्योंकि उन्होंने अपनी डिनॉमिनेशन की रीति के अनुसार कुछ शब्द बोल दिए हैं, इसलिए अब वे आश्वस्त रह सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर को वह करना ही होगा जो उन्होंने कहा है, उसे उन्हें क्षमा करना ही होगा, क्योंकि उन्होंने उचित अनुष्ठान को पूरा कर लिया है।

परमेश्वर से उसके बच्चों, उसके लोगों को पाप क्षमा मिलने के बारे में एक और बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात है, जिसके बारे में हमें बहुत गंभीरता से मनन करना चाहिए और हमेशा जिसका ध्यान भी रखना चाहिए। जैसा कि इब्रानियों 12:5-11 में लिखा है। जब, जैसी और जितनी आवश्यकता होती है, एक प्रेमी पिता के समान, परमेश्वर भी अपने जिद्दी बच्चों की ताड़ना करता है; जैसे कि संसार के माता-पिता करते हैं। परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने बच्चों की ताड़ना करना इस बात का प्रमाण है कि परमेश्वर अपने बच्चों की चिंता करता है, उनके जीवन और व्यवहार को लेकर चिंतित है, और अपनी संतान को संसार के साथ समझौते की स्थिति में बने नहीं रहने देगा, वरन उस पापमय स्थित से जिस में उस बच्चे ने अपने आप को डाल लिया है, उसे निकालने के लिए जो कुछ भी आवश्यक है वह करेगा। इब्रानियों की पत्री का लेखक इस बात पर बल देने के लिए, पद 8 में बहुत कठोर भाषा का प्रयोग भी करता है - उनके ढिठाई के पापमय व्यवहार के लिए जिनकी ताड़ना नहीं हुई उन्हें वह “व्यभिचार की संतान”, अर्थात वे जो वास्तव में परमेश्वर की संतान नहीं हैं, कहता है। इसलिए परमेश्वर की जिद्दी, ढीठ, और पाप के साथ समझौता करने में लगे रहने वाले बच्चों के लिए, उन्हें मोड़ कर वापस ठीक मार्ग पर लाने के लिए परमेश्वर की ताड़ना उनके प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम और चिंता का प्रमाण तो है ही, साथ ही इस बात का भी प्रमाण है कि वह व्यक्ति परमेश्वर की संतान भी है। दूसरी ओर, जो लोग अपने पापमय, सांसारिक, समझौते के बिगड़े हुए जीवन में ढिठाई से बने रहते हैं, चलते रहते हैं, किन्तु उन्हें परमेश्वर की ताड़ना का सामना नहीं करना पड़ता है, उन्हें बहुत गंभीरता से इस बात पर ध्यान देना चाहिए कि ऐसा होना, उनके “व्यभिचार की संतान”, अर्थात उनके वास्तव में परमेश्वर की संतान नहीं होने का प्रमाण भी है; परमेश्वर ने उन्हें अपनी संतान, अपने लोग स्वीकार ही नहीं किया है।

अगले लेख में हम इस बात के बहुत गम्भीर व्यावहारिक तात्पर्य के बारे में देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (3)

    In the previous article we had seen that for a child of God, a Born-Again Christian Believer, true confession and repentance means confessing specific sins by name, genuinely being sorry for them before the Lord, and resolving to get away from them or cast them out of one’s life. The perfunctory, liturgical reading from a book or repeating after the Pastor, printed words about this, is not the self-examination, confession, and repentance that 1 Corinthians 11:28 is talking about, nor is it the “discerning the Lord's body” that verse 29 means. Hence, participation in the Lord’s Table in this manner is not the one that God’s Word is talking about, rather it is participating unworthily. We had also seen that Biblically speaking, sin can either be forgiven by God, or be judged and punished by God. There is no other way for dealing with sin.

    God neither accepts any man’s recommendations for granting His forgiveness (Isaiah 1:11-15; Jeremiah 7:16; 11:14; 14:11-12; Jeremiah 15:1; Ezekiel 14:14-20), nor does He accept or go by any man-made methods and criteria for His evaluation and judgment. To have one’s sins forgiven, the person’s confession and repentance has to be according to God’s standards, in the God given manner, and God, who knows the actual inner state of every person, has to be convinced about the repentance being factual, only then will He forgive. So, no one can ever take his forgiveness from God for granted, least of all those who simply go through the motions externally while their hearts are nowhere in anything they say or do about confession and repentance, and think that by uttering a few words as a denominational tradition, they can assume and rest assured that God is now obliged to do as they have asked Him to do, He has to forgive them, because they have fulfilled the appropriate ritual.

    There is another very important aspect of forgiveness that we need to seriously ponder over and always remain aware of, when thinking about God’s forgiveness for His children. As it says in Hebrews 12:5-11, as and when it is required, and to the degree necessary, God also chastens His wayward children, as a loving Father; just the same as earthly fathers do. This chastening by God is a proof that God cares for His child, is concerned about the child’s life and behavior, will not let His child continue in a state of compromise with the world, and will do whatever is necessary to bring His child out of the sinful state he might have got himself into. The author of Hebrews emphasizes this by using very strong language in verse 8 - calling those who have not been chastened for their stubborn behavior as “illegitimate”, i.e., not actually the children of God. So, God’s chastening for a wayward, stubborn and compromising child of God, to turn him around is an expression of God’s love and care for His child, as well as a proof of that person being a child of God. On the other hand, those who continue in their worldly, wayward, compromising, sinful behavior, without facing God’s chastening and corrections, should seriously take note that this is also a proof that they are “illegitimate”, i.e., God does not consider or know them as His children!

    In the next article we will see about the very serious practical implications of this.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

व्यवस्था क्यों हमें उद्धार नहीं दे सकती है? (11)

 व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य

पिछले लेखों में हमने रोमियों 7 अध्याय से व्यवस्था की सीमाओं को देखा है कि व्यवस्था केवल पाप की पहचान करवा कर मनुष्य को पाप के लिए दोषी तो ठहरा सकती है। व्यवस्था उस पाप और दोष के लिए दण्ड भी बता सकती है, किन्तु मनुष्य को पाप करने से रोक नहीं सकती है। और न ही पापी को दंडित करने के बाद भी परमेश्वर के साथ संगति में बहाल कर सकती है। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा कि क्योंकि प्रभु यीशु में होकर व्यवस्था को हमारे सामने से हटा दिया गया है, इसलिए अब मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए व्यवस्था की बातों में जाने और उनका पालन करने के प्रयास करना, परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता ही नहीं, वरन उसके द्वारा हटा दी गई बात को पुनःस्थापित करने के द्वारा उसकी अवहेलना और उसका अपमान भी है। व्यवस्था की इतनी सीमाओं और अक्षमताओं के बावजूद, परमेश्वर ने मनुष्यों को, अपने चुने हुए लोगों को व्यवस्था दी ही क्यों? परमेश्वर कोई भी कार्य निरुद्देश्य नहीं करता है, उसकी हर बात में एक योजना, एक उपयोगिता होती है। तो व्यवस्था के दिए जाने में क्या योजना और क्या उद्देश्य है? आज हम इसी प्रश्न के उत्तर को देखेंगे और समझेंगे। 

इस शृंखला के आरंभिक लेखों में हमने मानव इतिहास का एक बहुत संक्षिप्त अवलोकन किया था, और इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचे थे कि चाहे मनुष्य अपनी बुद्धि, अपने प्रयासों, अपने कार्यों के द्वारा धर्मी और पवित्र होने का प्रयास करे, अथवा परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए नियमों, विधियों, बलिदानों, आदि के पालन के द्वारा यह करना चाहे, परिणाम एक ही है - मनुष्य धर्मी, पवित्र, और सिद्ध कदापि नहीं बन पाता है, “हम जानते हैं, कि व्यवस्था जो कुछ कहती है उन्हीं से कहती है, जो व्यवस्था के आधीन हैं: इसलिये कि हर एक मुंह बन्द किया जाए, और सारा संसार परमेश्वर के दण्ड के योग्य ठहरे” (रोमियों 3:19)। परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था मनुष्य के हाथों में होते हुए भी वह उसका पालन कर पाने में असमर्थ रहता है। अन्ततः हर मनुष्य को परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह और क्षमा के सहारे ही, पश्चाताप के द्वारा ही परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होना होता है। यही व्यवस्था का पहला उद्देश्य है - उसमें विद्यमान पाप के कारण, मनुष्य को उसकी क्षमताओं की सीमाओं से अवगत कराना, और उन सीमाओं के प्रति जागरूक रखना। इब्रानियों का लेखक, इस बात को इन शब्दों में व्यक्त करता है, “क्योंकि व्यवस्था जिस में आने वाली अच्छी वस्‍तुओं का प्रतिबिम्ब है, पर उन का असली स्‍वरूप नहीं, इसलिये उन एक ही प्रकार के बलिदानों के द्वारा, जो प्रति वर्ष अचूक चढ़ाए जाते हैं, पास आने वालों को कदापि सिद्ध नहीं कर सकती। नहीं तो उन का चढ़ाना बन्‍द क्यों न हो जाता? इसलिये कि जब सेवा करने वाले एक ही बार शुद्ध हो जाते, तो फिर उन का विवेक उन्हें पापी न ठहराता। परन्तु उन के द्वारा प्रति वर्ष पापों का स्मरण हुआ करता है।” पद 11 “और हर एक याजक तो खड़े हो कर प्रति दिन सेवा करता है, और एक ही प्रकार के बलिदान को जो पापों को कभी भी दूर नहीं कर सकते; बार बार चढ़ाता है” (इब्रानियों 10:1-3, 11)। 

व्यवस्था का दूसरा उद्देश्य, जैसा हम पिछले लेख में रोमियों 7:7-13 से व्यवस्था की चौथी सीमा के संदर्भ में देख चुके हैं, पाप की पहचान करवाना है। व्यवस्था पापों के समाधान या निवारण के लिए नहीं दी गई है, वरन पापों की पहचान करवाने, और मनुष्य को उसकी पापमय दशा का स्मरण करवाते रहने के लिए दी गई है, “तो क्या वह जो अच्छी थी, मेरे लिये मृत्यु ठहरी? कदापि नहीं! परन्तु पाप उस अच्छी वस्तु के द्वारा मेरे लिये मृत्यु का उत्पन्न करने वाला हुआ कि उसका पाप होना प्रगट हो, और आज्ञा के द्वारा पाप बहुत ही पापमय ठहरे” (रोमियों 7:13)। इससे पहले भी परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, पौलुस में होकर रोमियों में ही इस बात को प्रकट और स्पष्ट कर चुका है। लिखा है, “20 क्योंकि व्यवस्था के कामों से कोई प्राणी उसके सामने धर्मी नहीं ठहरेगा, इसलिये कि व्यवस्था के द्वारा पाप की पहचान होती है। 21 पर अब बिना व्यवस्था परमेश्वर की वह धामिर्कता प्रगट हुई है, जिस की गवाही व्यवस्था और भविष्यद्वक्ता देते हैं। 22 अर्थात परमेश्वर की वह धामिर्कता, जो यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करने से सब विश्वास करने वालों के लिये है; क्योंकि कुछ भेद नहीं” (रोमियों 3:20-22)। इन तीन पदों पर थोड़ा ध्यान से विचार कीजिए:

• पद 20 में पवित्र आत्मा ने लिखवाया है कि व्यवस्था के पालन से कोई प्राणी धर्मी नहीं ठहरेगा। क्योंकि व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य धर्मी ठहराना नहीं, वरन पाप की पहचान करवाना है। अर्थात, व्यवस्था मनुष्य के सामने परमेश्वर के मानक और उसकी धार्मिकता के स्तर रखती है, जिनके समक्ष किसी भी बात को तुलना के लिए रख कर मनुष्य पहचान सके कि परमेश्वर को क्या स्वीकार्य है, और क्या नहीं; क्या उसकी दृष्टि में उचित है और क्या नहीं; वह किसी सही और जायज़ मानता है, किसे नहीं। इसे ऐसे समझिए, डॉक्टर खून जाँच, एक्स-रे, और अन्य ऐसी जाँचो के द्वारा रोग की पहचान करता है, और फिर उस रोग का समाधान, इलाज बताता है। उसके द्वारा करवाई जा रही जाँचें रोग का इलाज नहीं हैं, रोग का समाधान नहीं हैं, केवल रोग की पहचान करने का तरीका है। उसी प्रकार से परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था भी मनुष्य के पाप-रोग को उस पर प्रकट करने, उसे उस रोग की पहचान करवाने, और उस रोग के निवारण के लिए उसके अपने प्रयासों के व्यर्थ होने को दिखाने का तरीका है; व्यवस्था पाप के रोग का उपचार या समाधान नहीं है। 

• पद 21 में पवित्र आत्मा बताते हैं कि परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता बिना व्यवस्था के है, व्यवस्था के द्वारा नहीं है। परमेश्वर की यह धार्मिकता, बिना व्यवस्था के, प्रकट की गई है; और इस धार्मिकता की गवाही स्वयं व्यवस्था और भविष्यद्वक्ता देते हैं। परमेश्वर की यह धार्मिकता मनुष्य के कर्म नहीं, स्वयं प्रभु यीशु मसीह है (रोमियों 1:17; यिर्मयाह 23:5-6; 33:16)। 

• पद 22 यह बिलकुल स्पष्ट कर देता है कि परमेश्वर की यह धार्मिकता, जो बिना व्यवस्था के है, किसी के भी द्वारा किसी भी रीति से कमाई नहीं जाते है, न ही विरासत में दी जाती है, वरन केवल प्रभु पर विश्वास करने वालों को प्रदान की जाती है; केवल उन्हीं के लिए ही है।

साथ ही उनके लिए, जो फिर भी व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा, अपने आप को परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी ठहराना चाहते हैं, उनके लिए व्यवस्था के साथ उसकी एक बहुत बड़ी माँग भी है, जिसे कभी कोई मनुष्य पूरा नहीं करने पाया है। व्यवस्था की इस माँग के बारे में हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे। किन्तु अभी के लिए, यदि आप मसीही हैं, और अपने आप को किसी भी प्रकार की “व्यवस्था” - वह चाहे परमेश्वर की हो, या आपके धर्म, मत, समुदाय, या डिनॉमिनेशन की हो - के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी बनने के, और अपने शरीर के कार्यों के द्वारा अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के प्रयासों में लगे हैं; तो ध्यान देकर समझ लीजिए कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट बताता है कि व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन, परमेश्वर के दिए हुए पश्चाताप और समर्पण करने के मार्ग का पालन करने के द्वारा ही आप परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और उसे स्वीकार्य बन सकते हैं। अभी समय और अवसर रहते सही मार्ग अपना लें, और व्यर्थ तथा निष्फल मार्ग को छोड़ दें।  

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Why can't the Law save us? (11)

 Purpose of the Law

In previous articles, we've seen the limitations of the Law from Romans 7 that the Law can only help man to recognize sin, and it can hold man guilty of sin. The law can also prescribe punishment for that sin and offense, but it cannot prevent man from committing sin. Nor can it restore the sinner to fellowship with God even after he has been punished. Also, we have seen that because the Law has been taken away from us by God through the Lord Jesus, therefore, the Christian Believers have no need to go into observing the things of the Law. Rather, their still insisting to do so is not only disobedience to God, but by trying to reinstate what was taken away by God, is also demeaning and insulting Him. Despite the many limitations and inabilities of the Law, why did God give His Law to men, to His chosen people? God does not do anything in vain, He has a plan, a purpose in everything. So, what is the plan and what is the purpose in the giving of the Law? Today we will see and understand the answer to this question.

 

In an earlier article of this series, we took a very brief look at human history, and came to the conclusion that whether man seeks to be righteous and holy through his wisdom, his efforts, his actions, or through the Laws given by God, by the observance of statutes, sacrifices, etc., the result is the same—man never becomes righteous, holy, and perfect, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God" (Romans 3:19). Even though the Law of God is in the hands of man,  he is still unable to obey it. Ultimately, every human being becomes acceptable to God only through repentance of sins, and through God's grace and forgiveness. That is the first purpose of the Law - to make man aware of the limits of his abilities because of the sin in him, and to keep him conscious of those limits. The author of Hebrews expressed this in these words, "For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.” Verse 11 “And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins” (Hebrews 10:1-3, 11).

 

The second purpose of the Law, as we saw in the previous article in the context of the fourth limitation of the Law from Romans 7:7-13, is to identify sin. The law is not given for the solution or remission of sins, but for the recognition of sins, and to remind man of his sinful condition, “Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.” (Romans 7:13). Even before this, in Romans itself, God, the Holy Spirit, through Paul, has made the point evident and clear. It is written, "20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;” (Romans 3:20-22). Consider these three verses a little carefully:

• In verse 20, the Holy Spirit had it written that keeping the Law will not justify any living being. Because the purpose of the Law is not to justify, but to provide recognition of sin. The Law puts before man the criteria of God, and the standards of His righteousness. Man, by placing anything for comparison before them, can identify what is acceptable to God, and what is not; what is right in his view and what is not; whom He believes to be right and just, whom not. To understand it, look at it like this: the doctor diagnoses the disease by the help of blood tests, X-rays, and other such tests, and then tells the solution, the treatment of that disease. The tests being asked by him are not the cure of the disease, they are not the treatment of the disease; but only the way to diagnose the disease. In the same way God's Law is also a way of revealing man's sin-sickness to him, making him recognize its presence in him, and showing the futility of his own efforts to cure that disease. The Law is not the cure or solution to the disease of sin.

• In verse 21, the Holy Spirit explains that the righteousness of God is apart from the Law, not by the Law. This righteousness of God is revealed, outside the Law; And the Law and the prophets themselves testify to this righteousness. This righteousness of God is not through the works of man, but it is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself (Romans 1:17; Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:16).

• Verse 22 makes it quite clear that this righteousness of God, which is apart from the Law, can in no way ever be earned, or inherited, by anyone, but is graciously given only to those who believe in the Lord; It is only for them.

 

Also, for those who still want to justify themselves in the sight of God through the observance of the Law, the Law has a great demand too, which no man has ever been able to fulfill. We will consider this requirement of the Law in the next article. But for now, if you are a Christian, and consider yourself to be righteous by observing any kind of “law” — whether of God, or of your religion, creed, community, or denomination — and are trying to make yourself acceptable to God through your works; then pay heed and understand that God's Word clearly states that you can become righteous and acceptable to God, not by keeping the Law, but by only following God's prescribed path of repentance and submission. Therefore, while you have the time and opportunity, make the right decision now, and leave the useless and fruitless path.

 

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. By asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily submit yourself sincerely and with a committed heart to his Lordship in your life - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You have to say only a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ, willingly and meaningfully, while simultaneously completely committing your life to Him. You can say this prayer of repentance and submission in a manner something like this, “Lord Jesus, I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself for their forgiveness and because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, you rose again on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God. Please forgive my sins, take me under your shelter, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and submissive heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
