परमेश्वर के वचन से उचित व्यवहार – 6

 

हम पौलुस के जीवन और उदाहरणों से सीख रहे हैं कि परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ कैसे व्यवहार करना चाहिए। हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 से पौलुस की सेवकाई से संबंधित तीन बातों को देखा था, जिनका प्रभाव उसके द्वारा वचन की उचित सेवकाई पर भी आता है। पहली बात, पौलुस जानता था कि उसे क्या नहीं करने के लिए नियुक्त किया गया है; दूसरी, उसे पता था कि उसे क्या करना है; और तीसरा, परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए कार्य को करने के लिए वह परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए वचन में अपनी बुद्धि और चतुराई की बातें नहीं मिलाता था, जिस से कि मसीह के क्रूस का सन्देश व्यर्थ न ठहरे। आज से हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 से पौलुस के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग के एक और पक्ष को देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

ये पद, वास्तव में पूरा अध्याय 2, पहले अध्याय के 17 पद की तीसरी बात, जिसे हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था – परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार में मानवीय बुद्धि के उपयोग की कोई भूमिका न होना को आगे बढ़ाता है। अध्याय 2 यह स्पष्ट कर देता है कि परमेश्वर, अपने उन लोगों को, जो उसके आज्ञाकारी हैं, और खराई तथा समर्पण के साथ उसकी सेवकाई करने के इच्छुक हैं, उन्हें वह उस सेवकाई के लिये आवश्यक सामर्थ्य और योग्यता, उनमें निवास करने वाली अपनी आत्मा के द्वारा प्रदान करता है। पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें सेवकाई के लिए उपयुक्त और आवश्यक वचन को सिखाता है (2:12-13)। लेकिन जो वास्तव में प्रभु के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध नहीं हैं, जो अभी भी अपनी स्वाभाविक शारीरिक दशा में हैं, वे पवित्र आत्मा जो कहता है उसे न तो स्वीकार कर पाते हैं और न ही उसकी बात को समझ पाते हैं (2:14-15)। पौलुस इस अध्याय का अन्त इस कथन के साथ करता है, जिसका तात्पर्य है कि, जिनमें मसीह का मन है, केवल वे ही उसे जान और सीख पाते हैं, जो परमेश्वर सिखाना चाहता है (2:16)। हमारे सन्दर्भ के अनुसार, इस अध्याय की शिक्षा यही है कि जो प्रभु के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध हैं, खराई से परमेश्वर की सेवकाई उसी तरह से करने के इच्छुक हैं जिस तरह से परमेश्वर चाहता है कि सेवकाई की जाए, उन्हें परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा उनकी उस सेवकाई के लिए उपयुक्त वचन दिया भी जाएगा, और सिखाया भी जाएगा। इसलिए, परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ उपयुक्त रीति से व्यवहार की प्रारम्भिक आवश्यकता है कि व्यक्ति परमेश्वर के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध हो, और खराई से, उस रीति से, परमेश्वर की सेवकाई करने के लिए तैयार हो, जैसा परमेश्वर उससे चाहता है। इस बात का ध्यान रखते हुए, हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 के बारे में देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

पौलुस पद 4 का आरम्भ दो दावों के साथ करता है; उसका पहला दावा ऐसा है, जो वर्तमान में परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचारकों तथा शिक्षकों में से बहुत ही कम, यदि कोई करे भी तो, अपने लिए करेंगे। सामान्यतः, आज की प्रचलित प्रवृत्ति यही है कि वर्तमान के बाइबल के प्रचारक और शिक्षक पहले अपने श्रोताओं या जिन को सन्देश पहुँचाना है, उन्हें, अपनी शिक्षा, योग्यताओं, ज्ञान, और उनकी सेवकाई की लोकप्रियता, आदि के आधार पर प्रभावित करना चाहते हैं। ये सभी प्रचारक और शिक्षक परमेश्वर को मिलने वाली महिमा का पूरा या अधिकांश भाग नहीं तो कम से एक अंश तो अवश्य ही अपने लिए लेना चाहते हैं; और ऐसा करना, परमेश्वर की सेवकाई करने वाले के लिए अनुचित व्यवहार है (यशायाह 42:8; 48:11)।

 

लेकिन पौलुस उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार में ऐसी किसी भी संभावना के उत्पन्न होने से पहले ही उसे पूर्णतः समाप्त कर देता है। पौलुस अपने श्रोताओं से अपनी शिक्षा, फरीसी होने के लिए उसके कठोर प्रशिक्षण, पवित्र शास्त्र की उसकी समझ, इन सब बातों के कारण वह जिस स्तर तक पहुँचा था, आदि बातों का कोई उल्लेख नहीं करता है। उस ने केवल एक स्थान पर इनका उल्लेख किया, फिलिप्पियों 3:5 में; और यहाँ पर भी वह बहुत सरसरी रीति से इनका उल्लेख करता है, और वह भी उसकी सेवकाई में उन बातों का व्यर्थ होना दिखाने के लिए (फिलिप्पियों 3:7-8)। उसका दूसरा दावा है किस प्रकार से उसकी सेवकाई और परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ उसका व्यवहार परमेश्वर को महिमा देने पर ही केन्द्रित था, यह दिखाने के द्वारा कि सेवकाई के लिए जो भी सामर्थ्य उसके पास थी वह उसे पूर्णतः परमेश्वर की आत्मा से मिली थी, न कि उसकी अपनी किसी योग्यता से।

हम पौलुस की सेवकाई और परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ उसके व्यवहार से सम्बन्धित उसके इन दोनों दावों को आगे के लेखों में भी देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 6

 

We are learning from Paul’s life and examples of how to handle God’s Word. We have seen from 1 Corinthians 1:17, three things about Paul’s ministry that had a bearing on his using God’s Word in an appropriate manner. Firstly, Paul knew what he had not been sent to do; secondly, he knew what he had been sent to do; and thirdly, in fulfilling his God assigned task, he did not add his own wisdom of words into God’s Word given to him, lest the message of the Cross of Christ be made of no effect. Today we will begin to see another aspect of Paul’s use of God’s Word from 1 Corinthians 2:4-5.

These verses, actually, the whole of chapter 2, builds upon the third point of verse 17 of chapter 1, that we saw in the last article – negating the role of human wisdom in handling God’s Word. Chapter 2 makes it clear that God, to those of His people who are obedient to Him and desirous of sincerely serving Him, gives the required power and ability for their ministry, through His Holy Spirit that resides in them. The Holy Spirit teaches them the appropriate part of God’s Word for their ministry (2:12-13). But those who are not actually committed to the Lord, those who are still in their natural carnal state, are unable to receive or understand what God the Holy Spirit has to say (2:14-15). Paul concludes the chapter with a statement implying that only those who have the mind of Christ can know and learn what God wants to say (2:16). The lesson of this chapter, from our context, is that those committed and surrendered to the Lord, sincerely desirous of serving God the way He wants them to serve Him, will also be given the appropriate Word and taught how to use it, by God the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to appropriately handle God’s Word, the preliminary condition is being committed and surrendered to God, and being willing to sincerely serve Him the way He wants them to do it. With this in mind, we will consider 1 Corinthians 2:4-5.

Paul begins verse 4 by making two claims; his first claim is one that very few, if any, of the present-day preachers and teachers of God’s Word would like to make about themselves. Usually, the prevalent tendency of the current preachers and teachers of God’s Word is to first try to impress the audience, or the recipients of their message, by their education, qualifications, their knowledge, and the popularity of their ministry, etc. They like to take at least a slice of the glory that should be given to God, if not a good part, or all of it; and doing this is contrary to the teachings of God’s Word and improper for a minister of God (Isaiah 42:8; 48:11). 

But Paul, straightaway cuts off any possibility of this happening in his handling of God’s Word. Paul does not mention to his audience his education, his rigorous training as a Pharisee, his understanding of the Scriptures, and the stature he had gained because of all this. The only place he refers to this is in Philippians 3:5; there too he mentions it very briefly, and only to discount it, to show how vain these things were for his ministry (Philippians 3:7-8). His second claim is about how his ministry and his handling of God's Word was centered around giving glory to God, through demonstrating that the power that he had for his ministry was entirely from the Spirit of God, and not because of anything from his side.

We will continue studying further both these claims of Paul about his ministry and handling God’s Word in the subsequent articles.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    इसके विपरीत, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस यह बात बहुत स्पष्टता से कहता है कि सुसमाचार को मानवीय बुद्धि के द्वारा और अधिक प्रभावी करने, उसे और भी आकर्षक और तर्कपूर्ण बनाने के प्रयास, सुसमाचार को अप्रभावी बना देते हैं। यह नए नियम के द्वारा पुराने नियम की एक बात – निर्गमन 20:24-25 की, जिसे हम पहले देख चुके हैं, की पुष्टि है – अपने भेंट और बलिदान परमेश्वर को चढ़ाने के लिए जो वेदी बनाई जाए, वह केवल उसी सामग्री से बनी हो जो परमेश्वर ने दी है और उसे उसके प्राकृतिक रूप में ही उपयोग किया जाए। परमेश्वर द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाई गई सामग्री को मनुष्यों द्वारा और अधिक सुन्दर और आकर्षक बनाने के प्रयास, केवल उसे अशुद्ध ही करेंगे, और परमेश्वर को कुछ भी अर्पित करने के अयोग्य बना देंगे। जैसे, उस समय के इस्राएलियों के लिए मिट्टी और पत्थर ही वह दी गई सामग्री थे, जिनके द्वारा उन्हें वेदी बनानी थी; उसी प्रकार से आज मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए, परमेश्वर का वचन ही वह एकमात्र आधार है जिसके द्वारा वे परमेश्वर के पास आ सकते हैं और परमेश्वर को अपनी भेंट – अर्थात्, सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित हमारी सेवकाई का कार्य और उसके परिणाम उसे अर्पित कर सकते हैं।

 
    जैसे तब उन प्राकृतिक वस्तुओं में किसी प्रकार की कोई फेर-बदल नहीं की जानी थी, उसी प्रकार से, आज परमेश्वर के वचन में भी कोई फेर-बदल नहीं होनी है। यहाँ, 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 में, पौलुस इस बात को स्पष्ट कर देता है कि सुसमाचार में मानवीय बुद्धि की बातें जोड़ने से, वह अप्रभावी हो जाता है। गलातिया की मण्डली को लिखी अपनी एक अन्य पत्री में पौलुस ने इसी बाते के लिये बहुत कठोर शब्द प्रयोग किए हैं; परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार में फेर-बदल करने वालों को उसने श्रापित कहा है; यहाँ तक कि यदि वह स्वयं या कोई स्वर्गदूत भी ऐसा करे तो वह स्वयं को तथा उस स्वर्गदूत को भी श्रापित कहता है (गलातीयों 1:8-9)। हो सकता है कि मानवीय बुद्धि और वाक्पटुता से भरा वह सन्देश सुनने में बहुत आकर्षक और प्रभावी लगे; हो सकता है कि लोगों के द्वारा उस प्रचारक की तथा उसके उपदेशों की बहुत प्रशंसा और सराहना भी हो। लेकिन मानवीय सामर्थ्य से प्रचार किए गये उस उपदेश से वह कभी नहीं होगा जो पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सामर्थ्य में, सीधे और साधारण शब्दों में, प्रचार किया गया सुसमाचार करता है – लोगों को पाप के लिये कायल करना, उन्हें पश्चाताप के लिये उभारना, और उन्हें बचाना।

    उद्धार त्रिएक परमेश्वर का कार्य है – परमेश्वर पुत्र ने अपने आप को समस्त मानव-जाति के सभी पापों के लिए बलिदान कर दिया; परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा उद्धार के इस कार्य को लेकर लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करता है और उन्हें पश्चाताप करने तक लेकर आता है; परमेश्वर पिता उस कायल हुए और क्षमा-प्रार्थी पापी के पश्चाताप को स्वीकार करता है और प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा छुटकारा देने वाले कार्य के क्रूस पर पूर्ण किये जाने पर लाये गये उसके विश्वास के आधार पर, अपने अनुग्रह में उसे पापों की क्षमा प्रदान करता है, और उसे पापों से छुड़ाई हुई तथा उसके साथ मेल-मिलाप हुई अपनी संतान (यूहन्ना 1:12-13) बनाकर अपने राज्य में स्वीकार कर लेता है। अब, इस में कहाँ पर और कैसे कोई भी मानवीय बुद्धि, समझ-बूझ, या ज्ञान की बात बीच में आ सकती है, कि इस उद्धार के इस आधारभूत ईश्वरीय तथ्य को और भी बेहतर बनाए?

 
    किसी भी मानवीय बुद्धि, समझ-बूझ, या ज्ञान की किसी बात का यहाँ पर परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होकर लागू कर लिया जाना, सृजे गए मनुष्य की मानवीय बुद्धि की उपज का, सर्वज्ञानी, सर्वसामर्थी, सृजनहार परमेश्वर की बात के तुल्य होना ही दिखाता है! और यह होना असंभव है। साथ ही यह परमेश्वर के वचन के अटल और अपरिवर्तनीय होने को (भजन 119:89), और यह दावा करने वाले परमेश्वर को भी झूठा ठहराता है, जो पवित्र शास्त्र के विरुद्ध है (गिनती 23:19)। इससे यह देखा तथा समझा जा सकता है कि शैतान ने किस तरह से इस साधारण, अहानिकारक, और भक्तिपूर्ण प्रतीत होने वाली, परमेश्वर के वचन को सँवारने और आकर्षक बनाने की बात के द्वारा, परमेश्वर को और उसके वचन को झूठा और विश्वासयोग्य न होना दिखाने की यह दुष्ट योजना कार्यान्वित की है। और यह करने के प्रयास करते हुए मनुष्य यही समझता रहता है कि वह सुसमाचार सन्देश को और अधिक आकर्षक, तथा प्रभावी बना रहा है, परमेश्वर के प्रति भक्तिपूर्ण, आदर और श्रद्धा का व्यवहार कर रहा है, जबकि वास्तव में शैतान ने उसे बहका कर परमेश्वर का अपमान करने, उसके विरुद्ध चलने के मार्ग पर डाल दिया है।

    इसीलिए, परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार करते हुए, हमें इस बात के लिए बहुत सावधान एवं सचेत रहना चाहिए कि हम उसमें किसी भी प्रकार की कोई भी फेर-बदल नहीं करें, न तो उसमें कुछ जोड़ें, और न ही उसमें से कुछ निकालें। पौलुस के जीवन और सेवकाई के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति व्यवहार को सीखने को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 से देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 5

 

In learning to handle God’s Word appropriately, for the past few articles, we have been learning from Paul’s life and ministry, his method of handling God's Word. In this, we started off with 1 Corinthians 1:17, and saw that there Paul says three things about his ministry. These things had a very important bearing on how he, and now, how we handle God’s Word. These three things in this verse are: Firstly, he was not sent to baptize; secondly, he was sent to preach the gospel; and, thirdly, he preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ In the previous two articles, we have considered the implications of the first two statements on handling the Word of God. Today, we will consider this for the third statement of Paul in this verse.

The third statement Paul makes in this verse about his handling of God's Word was that Paul preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ What we see implied here is that the “the Cross of Christ” is central to the gospel message, and the gospel is made effective through incorporating the message of the Cross (see verse 18, and chapter 2 for more on this). Moreover, the preacher of the gospel should neither resort to human logic and reasoning, nor have to be very verbose, or use flowery and attractive language, either to explain the gospel, or to make it sound appealing and logical, for others to accept it. When we present the gospel, i.e., the message of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus to atone for the sins of entire mankind and redeem all mankind from their sins, it must be in a simple straightforward manner. The Spirit of God uses the simple straightforward message and words to convict people of their sins and bring them to faith in Christ Jesus.

On the other hand, through God the Holy Spirit, Paul very clearly says here that by trying to enhance the gospel, make it sound more appealing and logical by adding human wisdom to it, only takes away its efficacy. This is a New Testament attestation of what we had considered earlier from the Old Testament – Exodus 20:24-25 – in building altars to offer sacrifices and offerings to God, only use what He has provided, and only use it in its natural form. Any human attempts at trying to make the God provided material more beautiful or attractive, will only render it profane, and unfit to be used as an altar for offering anything to God. Like the only materials prescribed for constructing the altars for the Israelites at that time were earth and stones; today, for the Christian Believers, God’s Word is the one and only basis of approaching God and offering our gifts to God – i.e., the gifts of serving Him through our gospel related ministry and its results to Him.

 

Like those natural materials were not to be altered in any manner at that time, similarly, God’s Word is not to be altered in any manner today. Here in 1 Corinthians 1:17, Paul makes it very clear that adding human wisdom to the gospel makes it ineffective. In another of his letters, the one written to the Church in Galatia, Paul has used very harsh words to express the same thought. He has called the one tampering God’s Word as cursed (Galatians 1:8-9). To the extent that even if it were he or an angel that did this, he calls himself as well as the angel cursed. It may be that the message preached through human wisdom and eloquence may sound very appealing and attractive; it is possible that people may praise and highly appreciate the messages, and the preacher of those messages. But a sermon given through human abilities and wisdom will never do what the gospel given in simple, straightforward words under the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit can do – convict the people of their sins, motivate them to repent, and save them.

Salvation is the work of the Triune God – God the Son sacrificed Himself for the all of the sins of entire mankind; God the Holy Spirit takes this work and convicts people of their sins and brings them to repentance; God the Father, accepts the repentance of the convicted and penitent person, and in His grace forgives him on the basis of his faith in the redeeming work of the Lord Jesus accomplished on the Cross of Calvary, and forgives his sins, accepts him into His Kingdom as His redeemed and reconciled child (John 1:12-13). So, how and where can anything of human wisdom, knowledge, understanding enter into this in any way, and improve upon this basic fact of salvation?

 

Any attempt to bring in anything of human wisdom, logic, and understanding, as acceptable to God would imply that something of human ingenuity will be equivalent to that of the omniscient, omnipotent, creator God’s mind! An impossibility! Moreover this will also make false the claim of God’s Word being absolute and unalterable (Psalm 119:89); and render the God who has given this claim about His Word, a liar - again contradicting the Scriptures (Numbers 23:19). And now, one can see and realize how Satan has used a seemingly simple, harmless, pious scheme of apparently improving God’s Word and making it more attractive to show God a liar and His Word as untruthful, to say that they cannot be believed and accepted. while deceiving man into believing that by improving upon and beautifying the gospel message, he is being pious, reverent, and useful for God; while actually, he has been misled into going contrary to God.

Therefore, in handling God’s Word, we have to be very careful to not alter it in any manner, neither add to it, nor take away from it in any manner. From the next article we will start with 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 in our study through Paul’s life and ministry on appropriately handling God’s Word.

You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

इसीलिए हम देखते हैं कि उसके लेख, उसकी उसे सौंपी गई इस प्राथमिक सेवकाई पर ही केन्द्रित रहते हैं। पौलुस ने कभी भी उसे दिए गए अन्य वरदानों के बारे में विस्तार से नहीं सिखाया या लिखा। यद्यपि उसने अन्य भाषाओं में बोलने के वरदान के बारे में कुछ विस्तार से अवश्य लिखा, किन्तु वह भी कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली में घुस आई गलतियों को सही करने के सन्दर्भ में था। उस मण्डली ने अन्य भाषाओं के पवित्र आत्मा के वरदान को गलत समझना और उसका अनुचित रीति से उपयोग करना आरंभ कर दिया था, और उन में से कुछ लोग औरों पर अपने आप को बड़ा दिखाने के लिए उस वरदान का दुरुपयोग कर रहे थे। इन सभी बातों के कारण कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों की गवाही और उनकी आत्मिक उन्नति खराब हो रही थी, जो उनके द्वारा सुसमाचार तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार के लिए हानिकारक था। इसीलिए पौलुस को पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में इस वरदान के बारे में कुछ विस्तार से बताना पड़ा, जिससे कि गलतियों को सुधार सके, और उन्हें लौटा कर उन्हें दिए गए परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ सही व्यवहार पर ला सके।

कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी अपनी पहली पत्री, जिसमें उसने उस मण्डली में घुस आई कई गलतियों को संबोधित किया है, के समापन की ओर आते हुए पौलुस उन्हें वापस सुसमाचार पर ले कर जाता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4)। निहितार्थ यह है कि उनके द्वारा सुसमाचार को सही प्रकार से समझने और अपने जीवनों में उसका ठीक से उपयोग एवं पालन करने में ही उनकी समस्याओं के समाधान, तथा गलतियों को पहचानने और सुधारने का मार्ग है। परमेश्वर की कलीसिया में उठने वाली प्रत्येक समस्या की जड़ में, तथा वचन के दुरुपयोग और उस से गलत व्यवहार का कारण, हमेशा ही कोई न कोई पाप होता ही है। समस्या की यह जड़, यह पाप, बहुधा बहुत गहरा छिपा हुआ होता है, तथा उसे परमेश्वर के प्रति भक्ति और श्रद्धा से बहुत अच्छे से ढांपा हुआ भी होता है। लेकिन जब मसीही विश्वासी कलवरी के क्रूस के सामने आ कर खड़ा होता है, अपने छुटकारे के आधार और उसके लिए चुकाई गई कीमत पर विचार करता है, पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन में अपने जीवन का आँकलन प्रभु यीशु के जीवन को सामने रख कर करता है, तो उसके सामने उसका यह छिपा हुआ पाप प्रकट हो जाता है। तब वह कायल होता है, पश्चाताप करता है, और परमेश्वर से क्षमा मांगकर उससे निकलने का मार्गदर्शन माँगता है। वह अपनी गलतियों को सुधारना सीखता है, तथा परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह, कृपा, और धीरज रखने को और भी बेहतर समझ पाता है। इसलिए, सुसमाचार न केवल पापियों को उद्धार देने के लिए, बल्कि भटके हुए मसीही विश्वासी को लौटा कर परमेश्वर की संगति में बहाल करने, और उसे फिर से परमेश्वर के लिए उपयोगी बनाने के लिए भी उपयोगी है।

तो, यहाँ पर, पौलुस के जीवन से हमने परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार के दूसरे सिद्धांत के बारे में देखा है कि, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई अपनी सेवकाई को पहचानो, परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए वरदानों और योग्यताओं का सदुपयोग करो, तथा परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन में उन वरदानों को परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ सही व्यवहार करने के लिये प्रयोग करो। इससे आप को भी आशीष मिलेगी, तथा परमेश्वर के नाम को भी महिमा मिलेगी। अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 की तीसरी बात को देखेंगे।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 4

 

We are now learning the appropriate way of handling God’s Word, through the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul. In the previous article we had started with 1 Corinthians 1:17, and seen that Paul says three things about his God given ministry in that verse: Firstly, he was not sent to baptize; secondly, he was sent to preach the gospel; and, thirdly, he preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ Of these three, we had seen the first one, and drew the lesson that those engaged in the ministry of sharing, preaching, teaching the Word of God, should be aware of their God appointed ministry, they should take care of it, and fulfil it. No one is supposed to do everything, nor that which he wants to do; rather, only that which God has asked him to do (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, before doing anything outside of their God given ministry, it should diligently be cross checked and confirmed, before proceeding with doing it, lest Satan be deceiving them into doing something inappropriate. We will consider the second statement today.

In the Church of God, different people have been given different gifts and responsibilities for the growth and edification of the Church (1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 4:11-13). According to the ministry allocated by God the Holy Spirit, appropriate gifts too have been given to the members of the Church by Him (1 Corinthians 12:5-6, 11), to help them carry out their ministries worthily. Paul, at the time of his conversion, had primarily been given the ministry of preaching the Gospel and witnessing for God to Gentiles, kings, and children of Israel (Acts 9:15). But Paul’s life and ministry also shows that preaching the gospel was not the only God given gift that he had. Paul also had the gift of receiving new spiritual revelations from God to pass them on to others (1 Corinthians 11:23; Galatians 1:11-12; Ephesians 3:3-5, 8-9; 1 Thessalonians 4:1), doing various miracles and wonders, of healing, of casting out demons, and even of raising the dead back to life (Acts 16:18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:8). But these God-given gifts and abilities never made him lose sight of the fact that his primary ministry was of preaching the gospel, as he reaffirms it in 1 Corinthians 9:16-17.

Therefore, we see that his writings are focused on this main ministry that had been entrusted to him. Paul never wrote or taught in any detail about the various other gifts that God had given him. Although he did write in some detail about the gift of speaking in tongues, but that too was in context of rectifying the error that had come into the congregation of the Church at Corinth. That congregation had started misunderstanding and misusing the Holy Spirit’s gift of speaking in tongues, in an incorrect manner, and some were using this gift to assert superiority over others. All of this was adversely affecting the spiritual growth and witness of the Christian Believers in Corinth, which would negatively impact the preaching of the gospel and sharing ऑफ God’s Word by the Corinthian Christian Believers. Therefore, Paul through the Holy Spirit had to explain about this gift in some detail, rectify the errors, and bring them back to correctly handling God’s Word that they had received.

As Paul concludes his first letter to the Corinthians, in which he addresses the various errors that had come into that congregation, Paul takes them back to the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The implication is that finding solutions to their problems, and the way to realize and rectify their errors, is through their properly understanding the gospel, correctly using and applying it to their lives. Always at the root of every problem in the Church of God and the reason for every mishandling of God’s Word is sin. This root cause, this sin, is very often quite covert, and well covered with an external appearance of being godly and reverent. But when the Christian Believer comes and stands before the Cross of Calvary, ponders over the basis of his redemption and what it cost, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit assesses his life in light of the life of the Lord Jesus, his hidden sin is exposed to him. Then he is convicted and repents for it, and seeks God’s forgiveness and guidance to come out of it. He learns how to correct the error, and understands God’s grace, longsuffering, and forbearance even better. Hence, the gospel not only serves to bring salvation to the sinners, but also serves to bring the wayward Believer back into God’s fellowship and make him useful for God once again.

So, here, from Paul’s life, we see about the second principle of handling God’s Word – know your God given ministry, and use your God given gifts and abilities, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to focus your handling of God’s Word in the proper manner. Doing this will bless you and also others, and glorify God’s name. In the next article we will consider the third point of 1 Corinthians 1:17.
