रूपक – 2 - परमेश्वर का निवास-स्थान या मन्दिर
क्योंकि प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई हर एक बात का भण्डारी भी है, और उसके लिए परमेश्वर को जवाबदेह है, इसलिए उसे इसका निर्वाह करने का भरसक प्रयास करना चाहिए। भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी को उचित रीति से निर्वाह करने के लिए, विश्वासी को उसे जानना अनिवार्य है जिसका वह भण्डारी है। परमेश्वर द्वारा विश्वासियों को प्रदान की गई विभिन्न बातों में से एक है उसका परमेश्वर की कलीसिया, “एक्कलेसिया, अर्थात् सारे समय और स्थान की सीमाओं से पड़े, बुलाए गये लोगों का विश्वव्यापी समूह” का सदस्य होना, तथा अन्य मसीही विश्वासियों के साथ उसकी सहभागिता। हम इनके बारे में बाइबल में कलीसिया के लिए दिए गए विभिन्न रूपकों के द्वारा सीख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हम ने इन में से पहले रूपक, कलीसिया और विश्वासियों का परमेश्वर का घराना होने को देखा था। आज हम दूसरे रूपक, विश्वासियों का परमेश्वर का निवास-स्थान, घर, या मन्दिर होने के संबंध में देखेंगे।
(2) परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान या मन्दिर
कलीसिया और उसके सदस्यों के परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान, उसका मन्दिर होने से संबंधित परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में से कुछ पदों को देखिए:
“क्या तुम नहीं जानते, कि तुम परमेश्वर का मन्दिर हो, और परमेश्वर का आत्मा तुम में वास करता है? यदि कोई परमेश्वर के मन्दिर को नाश करेगा तो परमेश्वर उसे नाश करेगा; क्योंकि परमेश्वर का मन्दिर पवित्र है, और वह तुम हो” (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:16-17)।
“क्या तुम नहीं जानते, कि तुम्हारी देह पवित्रात्मा का मन्दिर है; जो तुम में बसा हुआ है और तुम्हें परमेश्वर की ओर से मिला है, और तुम अपने नहीं हो?” (1 कुरिन्थियों 6:19)।
“और मूरतों के साथ परमेश्वर के मन्दिर का क्या सम्बन्ध? क्योंकि हम तो जीवते परमेश्वर का मन्दिर हैं; जैसा परमेश्वर ने कहा है कि मैं उन में बसूंगा और उन में चला फिरा करूंगा; और मैं उन का परमेश्वर होऊंगा, और वे मेरे लोग होंगे” (2 कुरिन्थियों 6:16)।
“कि यदि मेरे आने में देर हो तो तू जान ले, कि परमेश्वर का घर, जो जीवते परमेश्वर की कलीसिया है, और जो सत्य का खंभा, और नेव है; उस में कैसा बर्ताव करना चाहिए” (1 तीमुथियुस 3:15)।
“पर मसीह, पुत्र के समान, उसके घर का अधिकारी है, और उसका घर हम हैं, यदि हम साहस पर, और अपनी आशा के घमण्ड पर अन्त तक दृढ़ता से स्थिर रहें” (इब्रानियों 3:6)।
उपरोक्त पदों में प्रभु की कलीसिया के लोगों, अर्थात, उसके वास्तविक मसीही विश्वासियों को परमेश्वर का, पवित्र आत्मा का, और प्रभु यीशु का मन्दिर, या निवास स्थान, या घर कह कर संबोधित किया गया है। किसी का ‘निवास स्थान’ होने के सामान्य और स्वाभाविक प्रयोग से यह प्रकट है कि उस का निवास स्थान वह स्थान होता है जहाँ वह निवास करता है, रहता है; जो उसका अपना होता है, जहाँ वह बिना किसी औपचारिकता के खुले दिल से रह सकता है, अपनापन और शांति महसूस कर सकता है। और, मन्दिर वह स्थान होता है जहाँ परमेश्वर की आराधना और उपासना की जाती है, उसे आदर और महिमा दी जाती है, तथा जो उससे मिलने का स्थान होता है। तात्पर्य यह कि प्रभु यीशु की वास्तविक कलीसिया का प्रत्येक सदस्य को त्रिएक परमेश्वर का अपना निवास स्थान होना है, जहाँ पर वह बिना किसी औपचारिकता के, खुले दिल से रह सकता है, व्यवहार कर सकता है, अपनापन और शांति महसूस कर सकता है। एक ऐसा स्थान जहाँ त्रिएक परमेश्वर को, कलीसिया के उस सदस्य से जिसमें वह निवास कर रहा है, योग्य आदर और सम्मान मिलता है, जिसके मन से परमेश्वर की सच्ची आराधना आत्मा और सच्चाई से निकलती है (यूहन्ना 4:23-24), और जहाँ परमेश्वर अपनी उस संतान के साथ मिल सकता है, उससे संगति और सहभागिता रख सकता है (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23)। इसलिये प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को अपने जीवन में परमेश्वर के लिए इन बातों को सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए; और जो अपने आप को विश्वासी समझते हैं, उन्हें अपने जीवनों को जाँच कर देखना चाहिए कि क्या परमेश्वर के लिये यह हो पाना उनके जीवनों और व्यवहार द्वारा संभव है?
इसी बात से स्पष्ट और प्रकट है कि परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान केवल वही हो सकता है जिसे परमेश्वर अपना निवास स्थान, अपना मन्दिर बनाता है। किसी भी मनुष्य द्वारा अपने ऊपर “मसीही” अर्थात, “परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान; परमेश्वर का मन्दिर” लेबल लगा लेने से - चाहे यह लेबल कितना भी प्रमुख करके क्यों न लगाया जाए, या उसका कितना भी जोर-शोर से प्रदर्शन और प्रचार क्यों न किया जाए, वह व्यक्ति वास्तविकता में परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान या मन्दिर नहीं बन जाता है। उसके इस खोखले दावे की पोल देर-सवेर खुल ही जाएगी। जिसे परमेश्वर अपना निवास स्थान, अपना मन्दिर स्वीकार करे, वही इस आदर को प्राप्त करेगा, अन्य सभी तिरस्कृत कर दिए जाएंगे (मत्ती 15:13)। वास्तविकता में प्रभु की कलीसिया का सदस्य वही हो सकता है जिसे प्रभु परमेश्वर सदस्य स्वीकार करे। परमेश्वर मानवीय विधि-विधानों से बंधा हुआ नहीं है कि लोग अपने द्वारा स्थापित कुछ मान्यताओं और धारणाओं को, अपनी बनाई गई कुछ रीतियों को पूरा करें, और परमेश्वर उन्हें अपनी कलीसिया में सम्मिलित करने के लिए बाध्य हो जाए। परमेश्वर उन्हें ही स्वीकार करता है जो उसके मानकों, उसके निर्देशों के अनुसार उसके साथ जुड़ते हैं।
परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान, उसका मन्दिर होने से संबंधित ये पद हमें सिखाते हैं कि परमेश्वर अपने निवास स्थान की रक्षा करता है, उसे दूषित करने या हानि पहुँचाने वाले को परमेश्वर दण्ड देता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:16-17)। उसका निवास स्थान होने का आदर यह भी दिखाता है कि अब वह व्यक्ति अपना नहीं रहा है, वरन परमेश्वर के स्वामित्व की अधीनता में आ गया है (1 कुरिन्थियों 6:19); अर्थात् उसके जीवन से सम्बन्धित है एक बात के लिये, उसकी देखभाल और सुरक्षा के लिये, परमेश्वर की जिम्मेदारी बन गया है - यदि वह परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार करता रहे (2 इतिहास 16:9)। परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान, उसका मन्दिर होने के नाते, परमेश्वर अपने लोगों से एक विशिष्ट व्यवहार, संसार से भिन्न जीवन शैली की अपेक्षा करता है (1 तीमुथियुस 3:15), जिसके लिए व्यक्ति को साहस और आशा को दृढ़ता से अंत तक थामे रहना होगा (इब्रानियों 3:6)। परमेश्वर द्वारा अपनी कलीसिया के प्रत्येक जन से रखी जाने वाली इन अपेक्षाओं, उन को इस महान स्तर और आदर के प्रदान किए जाने के साथ ही कि अब वे परमेश्वर की ज़िम्मेदारी हैं, उन्हें एक ऐसी भी बात भी साथ दे दी जाती है, जिसे, एक बार फिर से, कोई मनुष्य कभी भी अपने किसी भी प्रयास या प्रयोजन से कदापि प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता है - “...जैसा परमेश्वर ने कहा है कि मैं उन में बसूंगा और उन में चला फिरा करूंगा; और मैं उन का परमेश्वर होऊंगा, और वे मेरे लोग होंगे” (2 कुरिन्थियों 6:16)। जरा कल्पना कीजिए, सर्वसामर्थी सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर अपनी कलीसिया के लोगों के अंदर बसेगा, उनके मध्य में, उनके साथ चला फिरा करेगा, और उन्हें अपने लोग बना कर रखेगा; “सो हम इन बातों के विषय में क्या कहें? यदि परमेश्वर हमारी ओर है, तो हमारा विरोधी कौन हो सकता है?” (रोमियों 8:31)।
यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो क्या आप यह सच्चे मन और पूरी ईमानदारी से कह सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर आपके अंदर निवास करता है, और वह आप में एक अपनापन और शांति महसूस करता है? क्या आपके जीवन और व्यवहार से आपका संसार से पृथक होकर परमेश्वर को आदर और महिमा देना सर्वदा प्रकट होता रहता है? क्या आपके मन से परमेश्वर की आराधना उस “आत्मा और सच्चाई” से निकलती है जिसकी वह लालसा रखता है? या आप बस उस से कुछ-न-कुछ माँगते ही रहते हैं, और किसी-न-किसी बात को लेकर कुड़कुड़ाते ही रहते हैं, या शिकायत ही करते रहते हैं? या, क्या आप परमेश्वर से ऐसे वार्तालाप करते हैं और अपने मन की बात उससे खुलकर उस प्रकार करते हैं जैसे किसी घनिष्ठ मित्र से? क्या आप स्वयं को अपना नहीं, परमेश्वर का समझते हैं, और परमेश्वर की इच्छा तथा आप से उसकी अपेक्षाओं को पूरा करने में प्रयासरत रहते हैं? क्या आप अपनी मसीही गवाही को बनाए रखने के लिए, बिना कोई समझौता किए साहस और दृढ़ता से हर परिस्थिति को सहने के लिए तैयार रहते हैं? क्या इस दूसरे रूपक की शिक्षाओं के समक्ष आप अपने को प्रभु की सच्ची कलीसिया का वास्तविक सदस्य देखते हैं? यदि नहीं, तो प्रभु अभी आपको अवसर प्रदान कर रहा है कि अपनी गलतफहमी से निकल कर, उसके साथ अपने संबंधों को ठीक कर लें; वास्तविकता में परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान, उसका मन्दिर बन जाएं, और अपने अनन्तकाल को सुनिश्चित एवं आशीषित कर लें।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Metaphor – 2 - The Temple or Dwelling Place of God
Since every Born-Again Christian Believer is a steward of whatever God has entrusted to him, and is accountable to God for this stewardship, therefore, he ought to fulfill it as best as he can. To be able to fulfill his stewardship worthily, the Believer has to know about that of which he is steward. Amongst the various things given by God to the Believer, the one we are studying presently is his being a member of God’s Church, “ekklesia i.e., the worldwide group of the called-out ones, across all time and place,” and his fellowship with the other Christian Believers. We are learning about these through the various metaphors used in the Bible for the Church of God. In the previous article, we have considered the first one, the Church and Believers being the family of God. Today we will consider the second metaphor, of the Believers being the Temple, or Dwelling Place, or House of God.
(2) The Temple or Dwelling Place of God
Consider some verses about the members of the Church, the Christian Believers being the dwelling place of God, His Temple:
“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).
“but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15).
“but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end” (Hebrews 3:6).
In the above Bible verses, the members of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, i.e., the true Christian Believers, have been addressed as the Temple of the Lord, of the Holy Spirit, and the dwelling place, or house of God. The common sense understanding regarding someone’s dwelling place is that, it is the place where that person resides, a place that belongs to him, where he can freely and openly live without any formalities, feel a sense of belonging and of the place being his own personal place, where he can be comfortable and at peace. Similarly, a temple is a place where God is worshipped, given honor and glory, a place to meet God.
Therefore, the implication of these metaphors is that every actual member of the true Church of the Lord Jesus is the dwelling place of the Triune God, where God can reside freely and openly without any formalities, feel fully ‘at home’, feel comfortable and at peace. Every member of the Church is to be a temple of God, where God is given His due honor and glory, and is worshipped in truth, from the heart (John 4:23-24), where God can meet with His child, have fellowship with Him (John 14:21, 23). Every Believer should ensure that this is true for God in their lives; and those who consider themselves as Believers, should examine their lives to see whether this is possible or not for God, through their lives and behavior?
It is clear from this that only those whom God wants to make His dwelling place, His temple, can be so. A person’s taking upon himself the name or label of being a “Christian” i.e., “The Dwelling Place of God, The Temple of God” does not actually make him that - no matter how prominently that label may be displayed, with whatever pomp and show that label may be advertised, and whatever seemingly pious and religious activities may have been associated with the taking up and proclamation of the label. Sooner or later, the empty claims of these vain self-acquired labels will lie exposed, and the facts will come out. Only the person whom the Lord God accepts as His dwelling place or Temple can actually be it; rest everyone else will be rejected and cast away (Mathew 15:13). So, only the person whom God accepts as a member of His Church, can actually and truly be a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. God is not tied down to any man-made rites, rituals, and ceremonies, that people may fulfil, or to some contrived concepts and notions through which God would come under compulsion to accept them into His Church. God accepts only those, who join Him and His Church through the way given by Him, according to His standards and criteria.
The verses related to being the dwelling place and temple of God teach us that God protects His dwelling place, and punishes those who defile or harm it (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). Being given the honor of becoming the dwelling place of God also shows that henceforth that person is no longer his own, but fully belongs to the Lord God (1 Corinthians 6:19); in other words, he is now God’s responsibility for everything related to his life, for his care and security - provided he keeps doing what God tells him to do (2 Chronicles 16:9). From those who are God’s dwelling place, His temple, God expects a particular manner of living and behavior, a life lived differently from the people of the world (1 Timothy 3:15). Those who have been made God’s dwelling place and temple, are expected to hold fast to this confidence and hope firmly till the end (Hebrews 3:6). Along with these expectations of God from the people belonging to His Church, besides this great honor and privilege being granted to them of being His responsibility, there is another thing that is granted to them, that, once again, no man can ever acquire for himself through any efforts of any kind - “...As God has said: I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people” (2 Corinthians 6:16). Just imagine this high privilege, way beyond any human capability, that the omnipotent creator God will dwell amongst His people, will walk among them, and will keep them as His people; “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).
If you are a Christian Believer, then can you say with heartfelt conviction and with full honesty that God dwells in you, and He feels ‘at home’ in you, feels comfortable and at peace in you? Does your life and behavior always and continually demonstrate your being separate from the world, and living a life that honors God, glorifies Him? The worship of God that you offer, is it really in “Spirit and truth”, as He desires it to be; or is it a mere formality? Do you always only keep asking and begging for things from Him; keep grumbling about one thing or the other before Him; keep complaining to Him about things in your life? Or, do you converse with Him as you do with a close friend and openly share whatever is on our heart with Him? Do you consider yourself not our own, but belonging to the Lord, and strive to fulfil God’s will and His expectations from you? Are you willing to suffer any and all situations to live up to your Christian life and witness, without any compromise? Having considered the Bible verses related to this second metaphor, do you unhesitatingly consider yourself an actual member of the true Church of the Lord Jesus? If not, God is giving you the time and opportunity to come out of your contrived concepts and assumptions, rectify your relationship with Him and come into the right relationship with Him; to factually become God’s dwelling place and temple, and secure your eternity and eternal blessings.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
