परमेश्वर के वचन से उचित व्यवहार – 11

 

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि अपनी सेवकाई में प्रचार करने या शिक्षा देने के लिए, पौलुस केवल वही कहता था जो परमेश्वर उसे कहने के लिए देता था। हमने यह भी देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में होकर, अविश्वासियों, नए विश्वासियों, और विश्वास में अपरिपक्व लोगों से वह प्रभु यीशु मसीह और उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, अर्थात सुसमाचार की बात करता था; और जो परिपक्व विश्वासी थे, उन से परमेश्वर द्वारा पहले से कही गई, किन्तु अभी तक समझने में गुप्त रखी गई भेद की बातों के बारे में बात करता था। लेकिन दोनों ही स्थितियों में, वह परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बात के अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहीं बोलता था। आज हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:6 से पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य पक्ष को, पौलुस ही के उदाहरण से देखेंगे।

इस पद में अपने आप को तथा अपुल्लोस को उदाहरण के समान प्रस्तुत करते हुए, पौलुस कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों से कहता है कि वे उनके जीवनों से सीखें; और उनके सामने दो बातें रखता है, जिन पर उन्हें ध्यान देना चाहिए। पहली, परमेश्वर के वचन से उपयोग और व्यवहार के लिए कुरिन्थुस के विश्वासियों को पौलुस तथा अपुल्लोस के जीवन से सीखना था कि जो भी लिखा हुआ है, उस से आगे न बढ़ें; हम इसके बारे में अगले लेख में देखेंगे। दूसरा, मण्डली में से किसी को भी किसी एक सेवक के पक्ष में तथा दूसरे के विरोध में किसी प्रकार का कोई गर्व नहीं करना चाहिए, उनमें से किसी को भी दूसरे से बढ़कर नहीं देखना या समझना चाहिए। पौलुस ने इस पद में इस दूसरी बात के विषय में जो कहा है, उसके बारे में वह पहले ही 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:4-8 में लिख चुका था। वह बता चुका था कि दोनों, पौलुस और अपुल्लोस, परमेश्वर के सेवक थे, सेवकाई के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा ही नियुक्त किए गए थे। जैसे-जैसे वे अपनी सेवकाई को उचित रीति से पूरा करते जाते थे, परमेश्वर उन्हें और उनकी सेवकाई को आशीषित करता जाता था, उन्हें बढ़ाता जाता था।

 

इसलिए किसी व्यक्ति के द्वारा उनमें से एक को, दूसरे से बढ़कर समझने या महत्व देने का कोई औचित्य नहीं था। न तो पौलुस, और न ही अपुल्लोस, अपनी किसी योग्यता के कारण सफल होते थे; दोनों ही परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में होकर काम करने और उससे आशीष पाने के कारण ही सफल थे। इसलिए उनकी सेवकाई की सफलता का सारा श्रेय और सारी महिमा परमेश्वर ही की थी, उन दोनों में से किसी की नहीं। इसलिए यदि कोई व्यक्ति उनमें से किसी एक को दूसरे से बढ़कर समझाता, तो यह उसके वास्तविकता से अनजान होने का, तथा व्यर्थ बातों के पीछे जाने वाला होने का चिह्न था। उसे जो करना चाहिए था, वह था, दोनों पौलुस और अपुल्लोस के लिए परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करे, और उन दोनों से ही सीखे; न कि किसी एक को दूसरे से बढ़कर समझे (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:10-13)।

परमेश्वर किसी भी आधार पर अपनी कलीसिया, जो प्रभु यीशु की देह और उसकी दुल्हन है, में किसी भी विभाजन या गुट बनाने को बड़ी कड़ाई से मना करता है। प्रभु परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के पीछे चलने की बजाए किसी मनुष्य का पक्ष लेकर उसके पीछे चलने के कारण यह करना तो कदापि नहीं होना है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस प्रेरित के द्वारा कहा है कि जो लोग इस तरह से विभाजन करने, और गुट बनाने वाले हैं, वे अपरिपक्व, शारीरिक, और परमेश्वर की संतान के समान नहीं वरन मात्र सांसारिक मनुष्यों के समान व्यवहार करने वाले हैं (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:1-4)। इसलिए, परमेश्वर के वचन के आधार पर, व्यक्ति की आत्मिक परिपक्वता की बाइबल के अनुसार एक पहचान उसकी प्रवृत्ति है – क्या वह परमेश्वर के वचन का आज्ञाकारी है उसका अनुसरण करता है, अथवा मनुष्य और मनुष्यों की शिक्षाओं का आज्ञाकारी और अनुसरण करने वाला है? चाहे वह मनुष्य परमेश्वर का कोई विख्यात सेवक ही क्यों न हो।

 

प्रकट है कि यही बात इतनी ही सत्य उनके लिए भी होगी जो परमेश्वर की कलीसिया में विभाजन करते और गुट बनाते हैं, ऐसा करना प्रोत्साहित करते हैं। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:18-19 से देखते हैं कि इस प्रवृत्ति का मुख्य कारण है लोगों का मण्डली में प्रमुख स्थान और उच्च पहचान मिलने की लालसा रखना। और इस प्रवृत्ति का होना इस बात का सूचक है कि ऐसे लोग प्रभु को पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी नहीं हैं, बल्कि व्यक्तिगत लाभ, स्थान, और स्वार्थ-सिद्धि के लिए प्रभु को उपयोग करना चाहते हैं, जिसके विरुद्ध वचन में कड़े शब्दों में कहा गया है (1 यूहन्ना 2:15-17)।

तो, पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार से हमें एक और शिक्षा मिलती है कि हम इस बात का ध्यान रखें कि परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार करते समय हम किसी भी रीति से कलीसिया में कोई विभाजन करने या गुट बनाने वाले या इस प्रवृत्ति को बढ़ावा देने वाले न हो जाएँ, और अपने जीवनों को उदाहरण बनाकर कलीसिया में भी इसी बात को सिखाएँ।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 11

 

In the previous article we had seen that to preach or teach in his ministry, Paul only spoke that which God had given him to say. We also saw that under the guidance and the power of the Holy Spirit, to unbelievers, novices, those immature in faith, he spoke about the Lord Jesus and Him crucified, i.e., about the gospel; and to those mature, he spoke about the mysteries of God, which God had ordained earlier, but had not been laid open till now. But in either case, he never spoke anything other than what God had given him to say. Today, using Paul as an example, we will see another related aspect of Paul’s utilization and handling of God’s Word from 1 Corinthians 4:6.

In this verse, Paul using himself and Apollos as examples, exhorts the Christian Believers of Corinth to learn from them; and puts forth two things that they were to take note of. Firstly, in utilizing and handling God’s Word, the Corinthian Believers should learn from Paul and Apollos, not to go beyond what is written; and we will look at this in the next article. Secondly, none of the congregation should get puffed up, or take pride in either of the ministers serving amongst them, favoring one and disregarding the other. This second point, Paul had already talked about in 1 Corinthians 3:4-8, that both of them, Paul and Apollos, were God’s servants, ministers appointed by God. As they fulfilled their God assigned ministry appropriately, God blessed them and their ministry, and gave the increase.

 

Hence there was no sense in any person preferring, or giving importance to one over the other in the Church. Neither Paul nor Apollos was successful because of their own abilities; both were successful because of serving God obediently and being blessed by Him. Therefore, all the glory and credit belonged only to God, not either of them. So, anyone preferring one over the other, would be totally missing the point, and going after a vain thing. The actual thing to do was to thank and bless God for both Paul and Apollos, and learn from both of them; instead of following one or the other (1 Corinthians 1:10-13).

God’s Word strongly forbids any divisions and factions on any grounds, in the Church, the Body and Bride of Christ. Doing this, least of all on grounds of favoring or following men, instead of following the Lord God and His Word, must never be done. God the Holy Spirit, through Paul has said that those who indulge in such factionalism, are immature and carnal, behaving not like the children of God, but like mere men of the world (1 Corinthians 3:1-4). So, on the basis of God’s Word, one Biblical sign of a person’s spiritual maturity is his tendency – whether of following and obeying God's Word, or of following and obeying man and his teachings? Even if that man is a renowned minister of God. 

Evidently, the same is true for those who create and promote divisions and factions in the Church of God. We see from 1 Corinthians 11:18-19, the main cause of this tendency is people wanting to have prominence and recognition in the congregation. Having this tendency is a definite indication that they are not fully submitted and obedient to the Lord, but want to use the Lord for personal gain, position, and profit, something that has been strongly spoken against and warned about (1 John 2:15-17).

So, another lesson that we learn from Paul about utilizing and handling the Word of God is to make sure that through utilizing God’s Word, we do not in any way create or promote divisions and factionalism in the Church, and teach against doing this, by becoming an example for the Church.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख में, 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 पर, एक उदाहरण के समान विचार करते हुए, हमने देखा था कि पौलुस किस तरह से परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गयी सेवकाई में, परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग, और उसके साथ व्यवहार करता था। हमने देखा था कि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था (2 कुरिन्थियों 10:1, 10)। और न ही पौलुस अपने पवित्र शास्त्र के ज्ञान और समझ की उत्तमता के आधार पर वचन का प्रचार और शिक्षा देता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:1)। साथ ही, कुरिन्थियों के मध्य अपनी सेवकाई के दौरान उसने अपने आप को निर्बल और भयभीत भी अनुभव किया था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:3)। परन्तु क्योंकि वह परमेश्वर के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी था, इसलिए परमेश्वर ने उसे बड़ी सामर्थ्य से भरकर, बहुतायत से उपयोग किया। परमेश्वर ने पौलुस की अपनी शारीरिक अयोग्यताओं और सीमाओं के बावजूद, कुरिन्थुस जैसे मुख्यतः व्यापारिक, मूर्तिपूजक, अनेकों प्रकार के अन्यजातियों से भरे, और अनैतिक तथा दुराचारी शहर में, उसके द्वारा कलीसिया की स्थापना करवाई। जो पौलुस कि कही हुई इस बात की पुष्टि करता है, कि उसकी सेवकाई पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य द्वारा थी, न कि उसकी अपनी किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान के कारण।

पौलुस 2:5 में एक ऐसी बात का उल्लेख करता है जिसका ध्यान वह परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग करने और उस से व्यवहार करने में रखता था – उसके श्रोता अपना भरोसा किस पर रख रहे हैं – उसके प्रचार, ज्ञान, और बुद्धि पर, या परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर? उसका प्रयास यही सुनिश्चित करने पर रहता था कि श्रोता केवल परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर ही भरोसा रखें, न कि पौलुस की किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान पर। इसीलिए, जैसा हम इस पत्री में देखते हैं, पौलुस उसका, अथवा किसी भी अन्य मनुष्य का, परमेश्वर के सेवकों का अनुसरण करने की प्रवृत्ति का, तथा कलीसिया में किसी भी आधार पर कोई भी गुट बनाने या विभाजन होने का घोर विरोध करता था(1 कुरिन्थियों 1:10-13; 3:4-5; 11:17-22)।

 

यह वर्तमान में अनेकों कलीसियाओं, यहाँ तक कि विश्वासियों की मण्डलियों में भी देखी जाने वाली एक सामान्य प्रवृत्ति के बिलकुल विपरीत है। आज सामान्यतः अगुवे, पास्टर, और कलीसियाओं के अन्य प्रमुख जन उनके द्वारा कही गई बात ही के पालन करने पर बल देते हैं। वे, बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए, परमेश्वर के वचन की, उनकी समझ के अनुसार की गई व्याख्या के माने जाने पर बल देते हैं, वैसा ही करवाते हैं। और इसीलिए कलीसियाओं में व्यक्तियों के अनुसरण के अनुसार न केवल गुट बनते और विभाजन होते हैं, वरन ऐसा होने को बढ़ावा भी दिया जाता है; जो उन अगुवों से सहमत नहीं होते हैं, उन्हें अलग कर दिया जाता है। जैसा पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखी अपनी पत्री में लिखा है, उद्धार देने वाला सच्चा विश्वास केवल परमेश्वर के वचन ही से आता है (रोमियों 10:17); और पतरस ने भी अपनी पहली पत्री में इस की पुष्टि की है कि विश्वासी होना, नया जन्म प्राप्त करना, परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा ही होता है (1 पतरस 1:23)। इसका अभिप्राय प्रकट है, वह चाहे कोई भी हो, किसी भी मनुष्य का वचन कभी भी किसी को भी उद्धार नहीं दे सकता है।

इसलिए, जो लोग परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई में लगे हैं, उन्हें पौलुस के समान इस बात का बहुत ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि, चाहे जानते हुए अथवा अनजाने में, वे लोगों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करने वाले, उनकी योग्यताओं और वरदानों में अनुचित भरोसा रखने वाले न बनाएँ। बल्कि उन्हें कलीसिया के लोगों को केवल परमेश्वर और उसके वचन ही पर भरोसा रखने वाले बनाना चाहिये। साथ ही, पौलुस के समान, उन्हें भी किसी प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक का अनुसरण करते हुए गुट बनाने और विभाजन करने की प्रवृत्ति से बचे रहना चाहिये। उन्हें लोगों को परमेश्वर और उसके वचन का अनुसरण करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है, न कि किसी मनुष्य के वचन के - चाहे वह कितना भी रोचक, आकर्षक, और तर्क पूर्ण क्यों न लगे। जैसा हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 पर विचार करते हुए देखा था, परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलाई गयी मानवीय बुद्धि की बातें, वचन को व्यर्थ और निष्फल कर देती हैं।

ऐसा नहीं है कि पौलुस कभी बुद्धि और समझ की बातें नहीं करता था; जैसा उसने 2:6-8 में कहा है, वह ज्ञान की बातें भी सुनाता था, किन्तु इस बात के लिए सचेत रहता था कि ऐसा केवल आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व लोगों के मध्य करे। और तब भी, ज्ञान की बातें करते समय, पौलुस एक बार फिर से इसका भी ध्यान रखता था कि, “परन्तु हम परमेश्वर का वह गुप्‍त ज्ञान, भेद की रीति पर बताते हैं, जिसे परमेश्वर ने सनातन से हमारी महिमा के लिये ठहराया” (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:7)। अर्थात, एक बार फिर, ज्ञान की बात करते हुए, पौलुस कभी परमेश्वर के द्वारा पहले से ही दिए हुए वचन से बाहर नहीं जाता था; परमेश्वर के वचन में कभी अपना वचन नहीं मिलाता था, वरन केवल वही कहता था जो परमेश्वर चाहता था कि वह कहे।

इस प्रकार से, इन पदों के द्वारा हम परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में पौलुस से एक और बात सीखते हैं, कि, पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में, श्रोताओं के, तथा उनकी आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार ही बोलें, परन्तु केवल वही जो परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उन लोगों से कहा जाए। अविश्वासियों और नए विश्वासियों से, उनसे जो विश्वास में अपरिपक्व हैं, पौलुस सीधे और साधारण शब्दों तथा भाषा में प्रभु यीशु तथा उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, अर्थात सुसमाचार के बारे में बात करता था। लेकिन जो आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व थे, उनके साथ वह परमेश्वर के ज्ञान के बारे में बात करता था, उस ज्ञान के बारे में जिसे परमेश्वर ने गुप्त रखा हुआ था। लेकिन दोनों ही बातों के लिए, पौलुस कभी भी परमेश्वर ने जो उसे उन श्रोताओं से बोलने, उन्हें प्रचार करने, उन्हें सिखाने के लिए दिया था, उस से बाहर नहीं जाता था। परमेश्वर के प्रति उस का यह समर्पण, निर्भरता, और आज्ञाकारिता ही उसकी सफलता का भेद है, तब भी, और आज भी – परमेश्वर के वचन में उसके लिखे लेखों के द्वारा; और यही बात हमारी भी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई की सफलता का आधार है।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 10

 

In the previous article, we had used 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, as an example of how Paul utilized and handled God’s Word in his God given ministry. We had seen that Paul was not an eloquent speaker (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10). Moreover, Paul did not preach and teach God’s Word based on the excellence of his knowledge and wisdom of the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 2:1).  Also, during his ministry amongst the Corinthians he had even felt weak and afraid (1 Corinthians 2:3). Yet because he was totally surrendered and obedient to God, therefore, God had used him mightily and abundantly. Despite his physical limitations and inabilities, in a primarily commercial and idolatrous place like Corinth, full of Gentiles from various places, and having an adulterous, immoral culture, God had got a Church established through Paul. This affirmed what Paul has said in these verses, that his ministry was proof that he worked through the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, and not based on his gifts and abilities.

In 2:5, Paul mentions a concern that he had while handling and ministering God’s Word – what were his audience placing their faith on – his preaching, knowledge, and wisdom, or in the power of God? His endeavor was to ensure that his audience trusted only in the power of God, and not any of Paul’s abilities or gifts. That is why, as is seen in this letter, Paul strongly spoke against any fan-following of himself or any of God’s ministers and any factionalism in the Church on any grounds (1 Corinthians 1:10-13; 3:4-5; 11:17-22).

 

This presents a stark contrast to the trend seen today in many Churches, and even Believer’s Assemblies. Today, usually the Elders, Pastors, and other leaders insist that what they say must be accepted and followed. They want that their interpretation of God’s Word, according to their own understanding, be accepted unchallenged; those who do not agree with the Elders, are separated away. Therefore, factionalism based on personal following in the Church not only happens, but is also encouraged and promoted. As Paul has written in his letter to the Romans, the true saving faith comes only from the Word of God (Romans 10:17); and Peter affirmed in his first letter that being Believers and Born Again was through the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). The implication is evident, man’s word, no matter whosoever he may be, will never bring anyone to salvation.

Hence, those engaged in the ministry of God’s Word, like Paul, should also make it a point to ensure that they do not, knowingly or unknowingly, attract their audience into developing a false faith in their own abilities and gifts. Instead, develop the congregation to having faith only in God and His Word. Rather, like Paul, they should also make it a point to discourage all factionalism and fan-following of certain preachers and teachers, which leads to forming of groups and then to factions. They should persuade people to go after God’s Word, the Bible, instead of the words of any man - no matter how attractive, appealing, and logical it may appear to be. We have already seen while considering 1 Corinthians 1:17, how the wisdom of man mixed in God’s Word renders it vain and infructuous.

It is not that Paul never talked about wisdom; as he says in 2:6-8, he did speak wisdom also, but was careful to do it only amongst those who were spiritually mature. And here too we see that even when speaking with wisdom, Paul again made it a point to speak “the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory” (1 Corinthians 2:7). So, once again, when speaking wisdom, Paul did not go beyond God’s Word already given; he never mixed his own words into God’s Word, but only spoke that which God wanted him to speak about.

So, through these verses, we learn another aspect of utilizing and handling God’s Word from Paul, i.e., under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, speak according to the audience, and their needs, but only according to what God wants you to speak. For the unbelievers and novices, for those who were still immature in faith, Paul spoke in simple straightforward language and words, about the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, i.e., the gospel. But amongst those who were spiritually mature, he shared the wisdom of God, and spoke about God’s wisdom kept hidden in mysteries. But in either case, Paul never spoke anything other than what God had given him to speak, preach, and teach to a particular audience. This submission, dependence, and obedience to God in fulfilling his ministry, is the secret for his success, then, as well as now – through his writings in God’s Word; and this can serve as the secret for the success of our God given ministries too.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

जैसा पहले भी कहा गया है, और हमने पौलुस के जीवन से देखा भी है कि परमेश्वर द्वारा पौलुस के लिए निर्धारित सेवकाई, प्राथमिक रीति से सुसमाचार का प्रचार करना था (प्रेरितों 9:15; रोमियों 1:1), और वह भी अन्यजातियों के मध्य में (गलातीयों 2:7)। लेकिन परमेश्वर ने उसे और भी वरदान दिए थे, जैसे कि सामर्थ्य के अनोखे कार्य करना, चंगाई देना, दुष्टात्माओं को निकालना, और मृतकों को भी जीवित कर देना (प्रेरितों 16:18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:8)। पौलुस को तब तक गुप्त रखी गई बातों के भेदों को समझने का भी वरदान मिला था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:7; 4:1; इफिसियों 3:3-4)। लेकिन पौलुस, कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को स्मरण करवाता है कि जब वह उनके पास आया, तो उसने आ कर इनमें से किसी भी वरदान का प्रदर्शन नहीं किया, वरन परमेश्वर ने उन लोगों के लिए जो उसे दिया था, अर्थात्, सुसमाचार (1 कुरिन्थियों 9:16-18, 23; 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1), केवल वही सुनाया। इसीलिए वह 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:2 में कहता है “क्योंकि मैं ने यह ठान लिया था, कि तुम्हारे बीच यीशु मसीह, वरन क्रूस पर चढ़ाए हुए मसीह को छोड़ और किसी बात को न जानूं।” दूसरे शब्दों में, कुरिन्थुस में परमेश्वर उस से केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह के बारे में, उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने के बारे में प्रचार चाहता था। जैसा हमने पहले भी देखा है, पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में लगभग डेढ़ वर्ष तक सेवकाई की (प्रेरितों 18:11), परमेश्वर का वचन सिखाता रहा।

अब, यहाँ पर हमें कुरिन्थुस शहर के बारे में कुछ ध्यान रखने की आवश्यकता है। जिस समय पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में सेवकाई की, वह यूनान का एक बहुत प्रमुख शहर था, व्यापार का एक प्रमुख केंद्र था। इस कारण से वहाँ पर सभी स्थानों से बहुत से लोगों का आना-जाना लगा रहता था, और वह एक मूर्तिपूजा का तथा नैतिक रीति से बहुत भ्रष्ट स्थान बन चुका था। ऐसे स्थान पर पौलुस ने परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार कैसी भी वाक्पटुता के, अथवा अपनी बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ के द्वारा नहीं, किन्तु सीधे साधारण शब्दों और शैली में किया। और फिर भी वह वहाँ पर एक कलीसिया को स्थापित कर सका और उसके इतने चाहने वाले हो गए कि वहाँ रहने वाले यहूदी उससे जलन रखने लगे और उसके शत्रु बन गए (प्रेरितों 18:6, 12)। यदि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता होता, या अपने बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ को प्रदर्शित करता, तो भी यह कहा जा सकता था कि उसके प्रचार के परिणाम उसकी इन योग्यताओं के कारण थे। लेकिन उस में ये योग्यताएँ थी ही नहीं - वह अच्छा वक्ता तो था नहीं, और कुरिन्थुस में संसार के सभी स्थानों से आए अन्यजाति लोगों के मध्य में पौलुस की यहूदी धर्म और धर्म-शास्त्रों की बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ व्यर्थ थी। इसीलिए, पौलुस ने 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 में जो बात कही है, कुरिन्थुस में उसकी सेवकाई के परिणाम उस बात की पुष्टि करते हैं। वहाँ पर उसकी सेवकाई की सफलता केवल उसके पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और आज्ञाकारिता में कार्य करने के द्वारा थी, और कोई भी उस सफलता का श्रेय, उसकी वाक्पटुता या बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ को नहीं दे सकता है।

एक बार फिर से यह हमारे सामने इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि जब परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उस से व्यवहार परमेश्वर के मार्गदर्शन और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में किया जाता है, परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपे गये विषय पर केन्द्रित कर के किया जाता है, तो परिणाम किसी की भी कल्पना या विचारों से कहीं बढ़कर होते हैं। न तो वाक्पटुता, और न ही वचन से सम्बन्धित बुद्धि-ज्ञान-समझ की उत्तमता, और न ही कोई अन्य योग्यता; वरन् केवल परमेश्वर को पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी रहना ही परमेश्वर को महिमा देने वाली एक सफल सेवकाई की आवश्यकताएँ और आधार हैं।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 9

 

In the previous article, while considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, as an example of how Paul utilized and handled God’s Word in his God given ministry, we had seen that both he and his co-worker, Apollos fully depended upon God. Whatever Word God gave them, they used only that, and supplemented each-other’s ministry. Neither of them resorted to their own wisdom, knowledge, and abilities for doing God’s work. Nor did Paul ever feel daunted or incapable of ministry, due to his not being an eloquent orator (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10). They totally depended upon God for every aspect of their ministry, and that is why they were so successful and fruitful for the Lord. The lesson we learnt was that in utilizing and handling God’s Word for our God assigned ministries, we too need to totally depend upon God, follow His guidance and instructions. Only then, God will use us, bless us, and give us eternal rewards, despite any inabilities or weaknesses we may be having. Today we will look at the topics of Paul’s ministry.

Paul says at the end of 1 Corinthians 2:4 that his speech and preaching were a “demonstration of the Spirit and power.” But in the immediately preceding verse, he says “I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling” (1 Corinthians 2:3). This is not a contradiction, but mention of the two states that Paul was in, during his ministry in Corinth (Acts 18:1-18). Physically, Paul was weak, afraid, even trembling with fear; probably because of the growing opposition and threats of physical violence from the Jews (Acts 18:12-18), and God had to strengthen him (Acts 18:9). This was something like what Elijah experienced at the hands of Jezebel, after killing the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 19:1-9). But spiritually, in his preaching, Paul demonstrated his ministering under the Spirit of God, and in power, through the contents of his preaching.

As we have seen before, and as we have seen from his life, Paul’s God assigned ministry, primarily was preaching the gospel (Acts 9:15; Romans 1:1), and that too amongst the Gentiles (Galatians 2:7). But God had also given him other gifts, e.g., of doing various miracles and wonders, of healing, of casting out demons, and even of raising the dead back to life (Acts 16:18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:8). Paul had also been given the gift of understanding mysteries that had been kept hidden till then (1 Corinthians 2:7; 4:1; Ephesians 3:3-4). But Paul reminds the Corinthian Church that when came to them, he did not show-off any of these gifts, but just preached that which God had given him for them, i.e., the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:16-18, 23; 1 Corinthians 15:1). Therefore, he says in 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” In other words, in Corinth, God wanted him to preach about the Lord Jesus Christ; and Him being crucified. As we have seen earlier, Paul ministered in Corinth for about one and a half years (Acts 18:11), teaching the Word of God.

Here we need to keep something about the city of Corinth in mind. At the time Paul ministered in Corinth, it was a very prominent city of Greece, and a very prominent place of commerce. Because of this, many people from all over used to travel through Corinth, and it had developed an idolatrous and morally a very degraded culture. In such a place, Paul preached the Word of God, about the Lord Jesus and His crucifixion, not with any eloquence or excellence of speech, nor with any wisdom-knowledge-understanding, but in simple straightforward language. And still, he was able to establish a Church there, and gained such a following that the Jews there became jealous of him and became his enemies (Acts 18:6, 12). If Paul had been a good orator, or been able to show-off his wisdom-knowledge-understanding, then it could be said that his results were because of these abilities. But he did not have these abilities - he was a poor orator, and amongst the cosmopolitan Gentile population of Corinth, his wisdom-knowledge-understanding of Jewish religion and Scriptures was vain. Therefore, what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, is affirmed by Paul’s results in Corinth. The success of his ministry was only because of his working under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, and no one could attribute it to either his eloquence or his wisdom-knowledge-understanding.

This once again affirms to us that when God’s Word is utilized and handled under the guidance and obedience of God, focused on the God assigned topic, the results can far exceed anything we can think of or imagine. Neither excellence of speech, nor wisdom-knowledge-understanding related to God’s Word, nor any other human ability; but only total submission and obedience to God are the requisites and basis of an effective ministry that glorifies God.
