बपतिस्मा की समझ - (4) – पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा “एक दूसरा अनुभव”?

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा कि वाक्यांश “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” बाइबल में कहीं नहीं दिया गया है, जहाँ भी लिखा है, वहाँ  “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” लिखा है, और इन छोटे से शब्दों के हेर-फेर से कही गई बात के अर्थ में बहुत अंतर आ जाता है; फिर बाइबल की बात प्रभु की न रहकर मनुष्य की बात बन जाती है। बहुधा, इस “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” के विषय को लेकर लोगों में यह धारणा दी जाती है कि यह बपतिस्मा पाना पवित्र आत्मा पाने से पृथक, एक अतिरिक्त (extra) अनुभव है, जो मसीही विश्वासी को सामान्य से और अधिक सक्षम करता है, उसे परमेश्वर के लिए और अधिक उपयोगी और सामर्थी बनाता है। इसलिए जो प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी होना चाहता है, या आश्चर्यकर्म तथा सामर्थ्य के कार्य करना चाहता है, उसे प्रभु से यह अनुभव प्राप्त करना चाहिए, इसके लिए प्रयास और प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए। जबकि सत्य यह है कि बाइबल में ऐसी कोई शिक्षा कहीं पर भी नहीं दी गई है। ध्यान करें, न तो उन 3000 प्रथम विश्वासियों से, जिन्होंने पतरस के प्रचार पर विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार पाया यह बात कही गई, और न ही पौलुस, या पतरस, या अन्य किसी प्रेरित अथवा प्रचारक के द्वारा कभी भी कहीं भी अपने विषय में कहा गया कि उस प्रचारक या सेवक ने एक अतिरिक्त “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाया था, जिसके फलस्वरूप वह और अधिक सामर्थी होकर प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी हो सका। इन सेवकों के लिए लिखा है कि इन्होंने कुछ विशेष कार्य “पवित्र आत्मा से भरकर” किए - किन्तु यह कहीं नहीं लिखा है कि ऐसा उनके द्वारा “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” लेने के कारण हुआ। साथ ही एक ही सेवक के एक से अधिक बार पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाने के लिए भी लिखा है। हम पवित्र आत्मा से भरकर कार्य करने के विषय में आगे के अध्ययन में देखेंगे।

 

    प्रेरितों 1:5 का वाक्य, प्रभु द्वारा वहाँ पर पद 4 में कही जा रही बात का ही ज़ारी रखा जाना है, और प्रभु की बात में कोई चकराने वाली बात (confusion) नहीं है। प्रभु ने सीधे और साफ शब्दों में पद 4 की प्रतिज्ञा - उन शिष्यों के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करना, को ही पद 5 में पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाना कहा है, जिसकी पुष्टि फिर पद 8 में प्रभु की बात से हो जाती है। साथ ही पतरस ने भी कुरनेलियुस के घर में जब अन्यजातियों को प्रचार किया, और उन्होंने उद्धार पाया, पवित्र आत्मा उन पर उतरा, तब भी पतरस ने प्रेरितों 1:5 की बात के अनुसार ही उसे भी, अर्थात प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करने से तुरंत ही पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त कर लेने को ही पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना कहा (प्रेरितों 11:16)।

 

    न ही प्रभु ने प्रेरितों 1:5 पर अथवा किसी अन्य स्थान पर शिष्यों से यह कहा कि “पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त कर लेने के बाद, फिर और प्रयास तथा प्रार्थना करना कि तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा से भी बपतिस्मा मिल जाए; उसके लिए यत्न करते रहना, जिससे तुम और भी अधिक सामर्थी होकर सेवकाई कर सको” – जबकि ऐसा करना उनकी आने वाली विषय-व्यापी सेवकाई के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण था, किन्तु अपनी महान आज्ञा में अथवा कहीं और कभी भी प्रभु ने शिष्यों से इसके विषय कोई बात नहीं कही। अर्थात, उन शिष्यों को पवित्र आत्मा से यह बपतिस्मा या अपनी विश्व-व्यापी सेवकाई के लिए उपयुक्त सामर्थ्य पाने के लिए अपनी ओर से और कुछ भी नहीं करना था; कोई प्रतीक्षा नहीं, कोई प्रयास नहीं, कोई प्रार्थना नहीं, कोई अतिरिक्त बपतिस्मा नहीं। जो होना था वह प्रभु के द्वारा स्वतः ही किया जाना था; यह उनके किसी कार्य के परिणाम स्वरूप नहीं होना था। इस पद में ऐसा कोई संकेत भी नहीं है जिससे यह आभास हो कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना और पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना कोई दो पृथक कार्य अथवा अनुभव हैं, क्योंकि यह स्पष्ट है कि पद 4 और 5 में एक ही बात को दो विभिन्न प्रकार से व्यक्त किया गया है।

 

    जैसे हम पहले भी देख चुके हैं, पवित्र आत्मा कोई वस्तु नहीं है जिसे विभाजित करके टुकड़ों में या अंश-अंश करके दिया जा सके। वह ईश्वरीय व्यक्तित्व है, और जब भी, जिसे भी दिया जाता है, उसमें वह अपनी संपूर्णता में ही वास करता है, टुकड़ों में नहीं (यूहन्ना 3:34); और एक बार आने के बाद वह सर्वदा साथ रहता है (यूहन्ना 14:16)। तो यदि प्रेरितों 1:4 की प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार शिष्यों को पवित्र आत्मा एक बार मिल जाना था, जो फिर उनके साथ सर्वदा बना रहता, तो फिर प्रेरितों 1:5 में कहा गया पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा यदि कोई अलग अनुभव है, तो फिर अब इस तथाकथित “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” के द्वारा और क्या भिन्न, या अधिक, या अतिरिक्त, दिया जाना शेष है? क्योंकि मसीही विश्वासी को पहले से ही, विश्वास करने पर तुरंत ही, पवित्र आत्मा उसकी संपूर्णता में सर्वदा के लिए दे दिया गया है; तो फिर सेवकाई के लिए और क्या देना रह गया है?

 

यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो यह आपके लिए अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय वचन में दी गई शिक्षाओं को गंभीरता से सीखें, समझें और उनका पालन करें; और सत्य को जान तथा समझ कर ही उचित और उपयुक्त व्यवहार करें, सही शिक्षाओं का प्रचार करें। किसी के भी द्वारा प्रभु, परमेश्वर, पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से प्रचार की गई हर बात को 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21 तथा प्रेरितों 17:11 के अनुसार जाँच-परख कर, यह स्थापित कर लेने के बाद कि उस शिक्षा का प्रभु यीशु द्वारा सुसमाचारों में प्रचार किया गया है; प्रेरितों के काम में प्रभु के उस प्रचार का निर्वाह किया गया है; और पत्रियों में उस प्रचार तथा कार्य के विषय शिक्षा दी गई है, तब ही उसे स्वीकार करें तथा उसका पालन करें, उसे औरों को सिखाएं या बताएं। आपको अपनी हर बात का हिसाब प्रभु को देना होगा (मत्ती 12:36-37)। जब वचन आपके हाथ में है, वचन को सिखाने के लिए पवित्र आत्मा आपके साथ है, तो फिर बिना जाँचे और परखे गलत शिक्षाओं में फँस जाने, तथा मनुष्यों और उनके समुदायों और उनकी गलत शिक्षाओं को आदर देते रहने के लिए, उन गलत शिक्षाओं में बने रहने के लिए क्या आप प्रभु परमेश्वर को कोई उत्तर दे सकेंगे?

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Understanding Baptism - (4) – Holy Spirit

Baptism “A Second Experience”?

In the last article we have seen that the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” does not occur anywhere in the Bible, but wherever Holy Spirit Baptism is written about, it is through the phrase “Baptism with the Holy Spirit;” and an interchange of the words “with” and “of” brings a radical change in the meaning and implications of the phrase; it no longer remains a Biblical teaching but becomes a man-made doctrine, inconsistent with the Bible. Very often the people are taught the concept that “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is a separate “second experience”, different from receiving the Holy Spirit, a “second touch” which renders a Christian Believer more powerful and effective for the Lord. Therefore, whoever wants to become useful for the Lord, desires to do miraculous and powerful works in his ministry, should get this power from the Lord, should pray and make efforts for this baptism. But the fact of the matter is that no such teaching is given anywhere in the Bible. Take note, neither to the 3000 Jews who believed and were saved by the preaching of Peter in Acts 2, nor to any other people coming to faith in the Lord Jesus and being saved through the preaching of Paul, Peter, or any other Apostle or preacher in the whole of the New Testament, was any teaching ever given of their seeking a “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”. Also, none of the Lord’s disciples, anywhere in their own ministry and preaching ever said that they received or got a separate “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” and then became extra-effective for the Lord. It surely is written for these disciples that they did some extra-ordinary things, being filled the Holy Spirit; and, it is also written that these ministers of the Lord were “filled with the Holy Spirit” on more occasions than one, but that they ever received a “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” and then they did those extra-ordinary things is not said anywhere. We will look into more details about being filled with the Holy Spirit and doing things in later articles.

As written in the previous article, Acts 1:5, is a continuation of the thought of the verse 4, and the Lord is not saying anything confusing or difficult to understand in these verses. The Lord has very clearly and in simple straightforward words, repeated the promise of verse 4 - that the disciples will shortly be receiving the Holy Spirit, in verse 5, as their being baptized by the Holy Spirit, which is then affirmed by what the Lord said in verse 8. Also, when Peter was sent to the house of Cornelius to preach the gospel amongst the gentiles, and when they received salvation, the Holy Spirit came down upon them, at that time too, in Acts 11:16, Peter called their receiving the Holy Spirit on believing in the Lord as being the same as being baptized by the Holy Spirit as in Acts 1:5.

Neither in Acts 1:5, nor at any other place did the Lord ever say to any of His disciples, that after having received the power of the Holy Spirit, then also make efforts and pray that you receive the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” as well so that you will become extra-powerful and enabled for carrying out the ministry - although this would have been very useful and an important asset for them in their ministry. But nowhere did the Lord ever say anything about this “second experience” to His disciples; all He said was that once they receive the power of the Holy Spirit, they will become enabled to go out to the ends of the world for the gospel ministry. The meaning is apparent, having once received the Holy Spirit, there was nothing more that the disciples were to wait for, or ask; there was no need for them to desire, wait for, or pray for receiving any other power; they had all that was required in them by the presence of the Holy Spirit in them. Now they were made capable and effective by the Holy Spirit to preach and propagate the gospel and do the miraculous works as and when required in their ministry. There is not even an indication, direct or indirect, in Acts 1:4-5, 8 that the disciple’s receiving the Holy Spirit, and then receiving the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” are two separate things, separate experiences. But what is very evident is that verse 4 and 5 are stating the same thing in different words.

As we have seen earlier, the Holy Spirit is not a “thing” or “object” which can be broken or divided into small bits and pieces, and then given out to people bit by bit in lieu of their doing something to obtain that “bit”. The Holy Spirit is God, a person of the Triune Holy Trinity; whenever and wherever He goes, He goes as a person, He is received as a person, He resides as a person - one whole person, not as bits and pieces of that person (John 3:34); and once He comes to reside in someone, He comes to reside forever (John 14:16). Therefore, if according to the promise of Acts 1:4, the disciples were to receive the Holy Spirit once; and then, assuming that the stated “Baptism with the Holy Spirit” of Acts 1:5 is a separate or second experience, now what extra or different part of God the Holy Spirit would or could be imparted to the Christian Believer? Because the Holy Spirit as one whole person with all His power has already come to reside in and be with him for his lifetime, at the moment a person receives salvation; so now what more is left of the Holy Spirit to be received by anyone, and why? This so called “second experience” is often wrongly taught as the being the “filling of the Holy Spirit” mentioned in the Bible. We will look into it in the next article.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is mandatory for you to learn the teachings related to the Holy Spirit from the Word of God, seriously ponder over them, understand them, and obey them. You should learn the truth and accordingly live and behave appropriately and worthily, and should teach only the truth from the Bible. You will have to give an account of everything you say to the Lord Jesus (Matthew 12:36-37). When you have God’s Word in your hand, and the Holy Spirit is there with you to teach you, then how will you be able to answer for yourself for getting deceived by wrong doctrines and false preaching and teachings? How will you justify your giving credibility to the persons, sects, and denominations teaching and preaching wrong things in the name of the Holy Spirit, and being part of their false teachings?

 

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

बप्तिस्मा की समझ - (3) – पवित्र आत्मा "से" या "का" बप्तिस्मा

पिछले लेखों में बपतिस्मे शब्द के अर्थ और उससे संबंधित कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातों के बारे में बाइबल में दी गई शिक्षाओं को उनकी वास्तविकता में देखने के बाद, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा कही गई बात को लेकर दी रही “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” से संबंधित गलत शिक्षा और उससे संबंधित बातों को देखते हैं। पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाने को लेकर बहुत सी ऐसी शिक्षाएं और विचार मसीही समाज और विश्वासियों में फैली हुई हैं और फैलाई भी जा रही हैं, जो बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुसार नहीं हैं। ये शिक्षाएं किस प्रकार से शक्कर में लपेटे हुए कड़वे और घातक ज़हर के समान हैं, जो विश्वासियों के विश्वास और सेवकाई की बहुत हानि करते हैं, उन्हें सत्य के मार्ग से भटका कर, गलत धारणाओं और निष्फल कार्यों की ओर ले जाते हैं, इसे हम आगे चलकर देखेंगे। प्रभु यीशु ने प्रेरितों 1:4 में जो बात कही, कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होने तक (पद 8) शिष्य यरूशलेम में यह होने की प्रतीक्षा करते रहें, उसी विचार को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों कहा “क्योंकि यूहन्ना ने तो पानी में बपतिस्मा दिया है परन्तु थोड़े दिनों के बाद तुम पवित्रात्मा से बपतिस्मा पाओगे” (प्रेरितों 1:5)। प्रभु की कही बात को, वचन में लिखे हुए उनके ही शब्दों के प्रयोग के साथ ध्यान से देखें और विचारें; प्रभु ने शिष्यों से कहा कि थोड़े ही दिनों में वे पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाएंगे (‘का’ नहीं; not ‘of’, but ‘with’)। प्रभु यीशु ने “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने की बात नहीं कही, वरन “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” पाने की बात कही, और फिर उसे यूहन्ना द्वारा पानी से बपतिस्मे दिए जाने के उदाहरण एवं चित्रण के द्वारा किसी भी गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग की संभावना पर विराम लगाया।

  

पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना, प्रभु की बात का पूरा होना है; जबकि पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाना, पानी से बपतिस्मे के अतिरिक्त एक अन्य, एक भिन्न बपतिस्मे की बात करना है, अर्थात पानी से एक बपतिस्मे के लिए प्रभु ने कहा है; और इन लोगों की शिक्षा के अनुसार एक दूसरा और भिन्न बपतिस्मा पवित्र आत्मा का होता है, जो हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि वचन के अनुसार सही नहीं है। पूरे नए नियम में कहीं पर भी “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” कहीं प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है। जहाँ भी प्रयोग हुआ है, “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” प्रयोग हुआ है। एक छोटे से शब्द का अनुचित प्रयोग, बात के सारे अर्थ को बदल देता है; “से” का अर्थ होता है वह माध्यम जो बपतिस्मा देने के लिए प्रयोग होगा - जैसा हम पिछले लेख में मत्ती 3:11 के संदर्भ में देखा था जहाँ “पानी से”, “पवित्र आत्मा और आग से” बपतिस्मे दिए जाने की बात की गई है। इसकी तुलना में, ‘का’ कहने का अर्थ किसी के अधिकार या आज्ञा को दिखना होता है, अथवा किसी अन्य से अलग होकर उस दूसरे जन का हो जाना संकेत करता है। इसलिए बपतिस्मे के संदर्भ में “का” से अर्थ बनता है बपतिस्मा किसके अधिकार या आज्ञा के अनुसार होगा। “प्रभु यीशु का बपतिस्मा” कहने का अर्थ है वह बपतिस्मा जो प्रभु यीशु के कहे के अनुसार या उसकी आज्ञाकारिता के अनुसार दिया गया; जबकि “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” का अर्थ है वह बपतिस्मा जो पवित्र आत्मा के कहे के अनुसार या उसके अधिकार से दिया गया। हम पहले के लेखों में देख और समझ चुके हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा, जो सत्य का आत्मा है, वह कभी अपनी ओर से न तो कुछ कहता है और न ही करता है; वह केवल परभु यीशु मसीह की शिक्षाओं को स्मरण दिलाता है और सिखाता है, तथा मसीही विश्वासियों का उन्हीं में और उन्हीं के अनुसार मार्गदर्शन करता है। इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा किसी नई बात को आरंभ करने का तो प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता है; यह सुझाव देना बाइबल में विरोधाभास उत्पन्न करना, उसके सिद्धांतों को त्रुटिपूर्ण बनाना है। 

कुछ बपतिस्मे से संबंधित बाइबल के पदों के द्वारा “से” और “का” के अर्थ की भिन्नता को समझते हैं:

·        मत्ती 3:11 मैं तो पानी से तुम्हें मन फिराव का बपतिस्मा देता हूं, परन्तु जो मेरे बाद आने वाला है, वह मुझ से शक्तिशाली है; मैं उस की जूती उठाने के योग्य नहीं, वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा और आग से बपतिस्मा देगा। (‘पानी, पवित्र आत्मा और आग “से” अर्थात इन माध्यमों से; और मन फिराव “का”; अर्थात मन फिराव की आज्ञा या अधिकार के पालन के अन्तर्गत)

·        मरकुस 1:8 मैं ने तो तुम्हें पानी से बपतिस्मा दिया है पर वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा देगा।

·        लूका 3:16 तो यूहन्ना ने उन सब से उत्तर में कहा: कि मैं तो तुम्हें पानी से बपतिस्मा देता हूं, परन्तु वह आने वाला है, जो मुझ से शक्तिमान है; मैं तो इस योग्य भी नहीं, कि उसके जूतों का बन्ध खोल सकूं, वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा और आग से बपतिस्मा देगा।

·        यूहन्ना 1:33 और मैं तो उसे पहचानता नहीं था, परन्तु जिसने मुझे जल से बपतिस्मा देने को भेजा, उसी ने मुझ से कहा, कि जिस पर तू आत्मा को उतरते और ठहरते देखे; वही पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा देनेवाला है।

·        प्रेरितों 11:16 तब मुझे प्रभु का वह वचन स्मरण आया; जो उसने कहा; कि यूहन्ना ने तो पानी से बपतिस्मा दिया, परन्तु तुम पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाओगे।

·        प्रेरितों 18:25 उसने प्रभु के मार्ग की शिक्षा पाई थी, और मन लगाकर यीशु के विषय में ठीक ठीक सुनाता, और सिखाता था, परन्तु वह केवल यूहन्ना के बपतिस्मा की बात जानता था। (यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देनेवाले की आज्ञा या अधिकार के अन्तर्गत दिया गया बपतिस्मा)

·   1 कुरिन्थियों 1:12 मेरा कहना यह है, कि तुम में से कोई तो अपने आप को पौलुस का, कोई अपुल्लोस का, कोई कैफा का, कोई मसीह का कहता है। (इन विभिन्न उल्लेखित लोगों में से एक के अधिकार या आज्ञाकारिता में रहने वाला) 

·        1 कुरिन्थियों 10:2 और सब ने बादल में, और समुद्र में, मूसा का बपतिस्मा लिया। (मूसा की आज्ञाकारिता या अधिकार के अन्तर्गत लिया गया बपतिस्मा) 

·        रोमियों 6:3 क्या तुम नहीं जानते, कि हम जितनों ने मसीह यीशु का बपतिस्मा लिया तो उस की मृत्यु का बपतिस्मा लिया  (प्रभु यीशु की आज्ञाकारिता या अधिकार के अन्तर्गत लिया गया बपतिस्मा)। 

 

  

    ध्यान कीजिए कि हर स्थान पर वाक्यांश “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” का प्रयोग किया गया है, अर्थात, पानी के समान ही पवित्र आत्मा वह माध्यम होगा जिसके द्वारा बपतिस्मा मिलेगा, यानि कि जिसमें डुबोया जाएगा। जबकि वचन में कहीं पर भी वाक्यांश “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” प्रयोग नहीं हुआ है। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा केवल वही बताता, स्मरण करवाता, और सिखाता है जो प्रभु यीशु बता और सिखा चुका है; वह अपनी ओर से कुछ नहीं कहता या करता है (यूहन्ना 16:13, 14)। इसलिए “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” कहना, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा बताई गई पवित्र आत्मा की सेवकाई में विरोधाभास (contradiction) उत्पन्न करना होगा। और परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा अपनी ओर से या अपने अधिकार से कुछ भी नया कभी नहीं करेगा, नहीं सिखाएगा, नहीं बताएगा। इससे यह स्पष्ट है कि इन लोगों की “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” संबंधी बातें और शिक्षाएं बाइबल के अनुसार निराधार और व्यर्थ हैं, पालन करने योग्य नहीं हैं। हम उनकी इन शिक्षाओं के निराधार, व्यर्थ, और अनुसरण न करने के योग्य होने के विषय में आने वाले लेख में और विस्तार से देखेंगे।

  

यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो यह आपके लिए अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय वचन में दी गई शिक्षाओं को गंभीरता से सीखें, समझें और उनका पालन करें; और सत्य को जान तथा समझ कर ही उचित और उपयुक्त व्यवहार करें, सही शिक्षाओं का प्रचार करें। किसी के भी द्वारा प्रभु, परमेश्वर, पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से प्रचार की गई हर बात को 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21 तथा प्रेरितों 17:11 के अनुसार जाँच-परख कर, यह स्थापित कर लेने के बाद कि उस शिक्षा का प्रभु यीशु द्वारा सुसमाचारों में प्रचार किया गया है; प्रेरितों के काम में प्रभु के उस प्रचार का निर्वाह किया गया है; और पत्रियों में उस प्रचार तथा कार्य के विषय शिक्षा दी गई है, तब ही उसे स्वीकार करें तथा उसका पालन करें, उसे औरों को सिखाएं या बताएं। आपको अपनी हर बात का हिसाब प्रभु को देना होगा (मत्ती 12:36-37)। जब वचन आपके हाथ में है, वचन को सिखाने के लिए पवित्र आत्मा आपके साथ है, तो फिर बिना जाँचे और परखे गलत शिक्षाओं में फँस जाने, तथा मनुष्यों और उनके समुदायों और उनकी गलत शिक्षाओं को आदर देते रहने के लिए, उन गलत शिक्षाओं में बने रहने के लिए क्या आप प्रभु परमेश्वर को कोई उत्तर दे सकेंगे?

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Understanding Baptism - (3) – Holy Spirit

Baptism “with” or “of”

In the previous articles we have seen and understood from the Bible the meaning of the word baptism, and the Biblical truths regarding some important related concepts. Today, we will start studying what the Lord Jesus has said about Holy Spirit Baptism, and look at the wrong interpretations, doctrines and teachings built on the Lord’s Jesus’s words, and why these interpretations, doctrines, and teachings are inconsistent with what the Lord Jesus has said. In fact, these wrong doctrines and teachings are like sugar-coated pill of a bitter and lethal poison, which bring a great harm to the Christian Believers and their ministry, misguide them into wrong paths, take them into wrong notions and vain works - we will see all of this in the days to come. What the Lord Jesus said to His disciples in Acts 1:4 was that they should wait in Jerusalem, till they receive the power of the Holy Spirit for their ministry (verse 8). Carrying forward the thought of verse 4, the Lord then said in Acts 1:5, “for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Carefully consider what the Lord Jesus has said, and think over the words used by the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus has here said to the disciples that in some time, they will be baptized with the Holy Spirit (not “of”, but “with”) just as John baptized “with” water. The Lord has not spoken about “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”, but about “Baptism with the Holy Spirit” further illustrating and clarifying it with John’s use of water for baptizing, to prevent any misinterpretations and misuse of what He said.

Receiving baptism with the Holy Spirit is a fulfillment of what the Lord Jesus has said; whereas talking about baptism of the Holy Spirit is talking about a different baptism, separate and extra from the water baptism. It implies that there is one water baptism that John administered, the Lord Jesus received and taught about; and there is another separate baptism that the Holy Spirit gives, besides and separate from the water baptism; and this, as we have seen earlier, is not in accordance with God’s Word. Throughout the New Testament, the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” has never been used; wherever Holy Spirit Baptism is referred to, it is always as “Baptism with the Holy Spirit.” An alteration and misuse of one small word, completely changes the meaning of the Lord’s statement. The word “with” implies the medium that is used to baptize or immerse into - as we saw in the previous article about baptism with water and with fire from Matthew 3:11. In contrast to this, using the word “of” denotes an authority or a command under which the act is carried out. Saying “Baptism of the Lord Jesus” conveys the meaning of administering baptism in accordance with the command of, or under authority the Lord Jesus; similarly, the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” will convey the meaning of administering baptism in accordance with the command of, or under authority the Holy Spirit. We have seen earlier from John 16:13-14, that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, never ever says or does anything from His side; He only reminds and teaches what the Lord Jesus has taught and guides the Christian Believers in and according to the Lord’s teachings. Therefore, there is no question or possibility of the Holy Spirit starting something new from His side; even suggesting anything like this is to bring a contradiction, bring doctrinal errors in the Bible.

Let us understand this difference between the words “with” and “of” in relation to baptism, from the Word of God itself:

• Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (Baptize with water, Holy Spirit, fire, i.e., with these mediums, “unto” repentance, i.e., in accordance with the command to repent).

• Mark 1:8 I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

• Luke 3:16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

• John 1:33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

• Acts 11:16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

• Acts 18:25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. (Baptism given under the authority or command of John the Baptist).

• 1 Corinthians 1:12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ." (Belonging to, or under the authority and command of one of the person’s mentioned here).

• 1 Corinthians 10:2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea (Baptized under the command or authority of Moses).

• Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? (Taken baptism under the authority or command of the Lord Jesus, under the power of His death).

Take note, at every place in the Bible, the phrase “baptism with the Holy Spirit” has been used; i.e., just as water was the medium of being baptized with or immersed into, similarly the Holy Spirit will be the medium into which the disciples will be, or, were to be, baptized or immersed into; and nowhere the phrase “baptism of the Holy Spirit” has ever been used in the Bible. Therefore, going by the Lord Jesus’s statements in John 16:13-14, bringing in and insisting upon “baptism of the Holy Spirit” is deliberately bringing in inconsistencies and contradictions in God’s Word. So. accepting and following these teachings is vain and baseless, they ought to be rejected out-rightly. We will look into more details about these wrong doctrines and teachings and their implications in the following articles.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is mandatory for you to learn the teachings related to the Holy Spirit from the Word of God, seriously ponder over them, understand them, and obey them. You should learn the truth and accordingly live and behave appropriately and worthily, and should teach only the truth from the Bible. You will have to give an account of everything you say to the Lord Jesus (Matthew 12:36-37). When you have God’s Word in your hand, and the Holy Spirit is there with you to teach you, then how will you be able to answer for yourself for getting deceived by wrong doctrines and false preaching and teachings? How will you justify your giving credibility to the persons, sects, and denominations teaching and preaching wrong things in the name of the Holy Spirit, and being part of their false teachings?

 

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
