परमेश्वर के वचन से उचित व्यवहार – 19

 

    पिछले लेख में हमने 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 से देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार में पौलुस किस तरह से तीन बातों का ध्यान रखता था – उसकी सेवकाई परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित थी, उस पर परमेश्वर की दया के कारण थी, और उसके लिए वह पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य से खराई से बहुत परिश्रम करता था। पौलुस ने अपने परिश्रम के परिणामों को परमेश्वर के हाथों में छोड़ दिया था, उसे अपनी परिस्थितियों की, उसके प्रति लोगों के व्यवहार की, उस सेवकाई के परिणामों की कोई चिंता नहीं थी, और इसीलिए ऐसी बातों से वह निराश भी नहीं होता था। आज से हम अगले पद, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:2 पर विचार आरम्भ करेंगे, और पौलुस से हमारे वर्तमान समय के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार सीखना जारी रखेंगे।

    

    इस पद में, पौलुस, उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार के तीन गुणों को हमारे सामने रखता है, तथा साथ ही वचन की उसकी सेवकाई के उद्देश्य को भी बताता है। यहाँ पर पौलुस बताता है कि उसने तीन गुणों के द्वारा सत्य को प्रगट किया, ताकि हर एक मनुष्य के विवेक में अपनी भलाई बैठाई, यह ध्यान रखते हुए कि यह सब कुछ परमेश्वर के सामने, अर्थात, उसकी जानकारी में हो रहा है, और परमेश्वर को हमेशा ही पता रहता है कि वे क्या कर रहे हैं। इस पद में दिए गए पौलुस की सेवकाई के तीन गुण हैं:

·        लज्जा के गुप्त कामों को त्यागना

·        चतुराई से न चलना

·        परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट नहीं करना

 

    पौलुस यहाँ पर कहता है कि उपरोक्त गुणों के द्वारा, उसकी सेवकाई का उद्देश्य था सत्य को प्रगट करना, जिस से कि वह प्रत्येक मनुष्य के विवेक में अपनी भलाई बैठा सके, इस बात का ध्यान रखते हुए कि वे हमेशा परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में बने रहते हैं। यह एक बार फिर से, पौलुस के उदाहरण का अनुसरण करने के द्वारा, परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई का एक और उद्देश्य हमारे सामने रखता है – सत्य को प्रगट करना। इसलिए, हम यह समझ सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई किसी के द्वारा पवित्र शास्त्र के विषय उसके ज्ञान और समझ का प्रदर्शन करने के लिए नहीं है। पौलुस एक बहुत ज्ञानवान और प्रशिक्षित फरीसी था, परन्तु पवित्र शास्त्र के विषय अपने ज्ञान को प्रदर्शित करने की बजाए, उसने यीशु की पहचान को प्राप्त करने के लिए अपने ज्ञान का तिरस्कार किया, उसे कूड़ा समझा, क्योंकि अपने ज्ञान के द्वारा वह मसीह को प्राप्त कर पाने में असमर्थ था (फिलिप्पियों 3:7-8)। न ही वचन की सेवकाई मण्डली में अपने अनुयायी बनाने, गुट-बाज़ी करने, अपना अनुसरण करने वाले लोगों का समूह बना लेने के लिए है; हम देख चुके हैं कि पौलुस ने ऐसी प्रवृत्तियों की तीव्र भर्त्सना की है (रोमियों 16:17; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:6)। और न ही यह सेवकाई साँसारिक संपत्ति अर्जित करने, भौतिक लाभ कमाने का तरीका है – पौलुस ने इसके विरुद्ध भी कठोरता से लिखा है (रोमियों 8:5-7; फिलिप्पियों 3:19; 1 तीमुथियुस 6:5)।

    लेकिन जैसा कि पौलुस ने अपने जीवन के द्वारा दिखाया है, और यहाँ इस पद में वह कहता भी है, परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई का उद्देश्य है परमेश्वर के वचन के सत्य को सँसार के सामने उजागर करना। यही, यह अभिप्राय देता है कि परमेश्वर के वचन को उसकी शुद्धता और पवित्रता में ही प्रस्तुत करना है, बिना उस में मानवीय बुद्धि और समझ की कोई बात मिलाए। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, यह कार्य स्पष्ट, सीधे और सहज रीति से किया जाना है, जिससे कि श्रोता उसे सुनकर आसानी से समझ सकें। ध्यान कीजिए कि जिस समय पौलुस ने यह लिखा था, अधिकांश लोग अनपढ़ होते थे, वे सीधे-सादे और साधारण लोग होते थे, जिनकी शब्दावली बहुत सीमित थी। इसीलिए, किसी भी जटिल, या आलंकारिक, या समझने में कठिन भाषा का उपयोग, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार और शिक्षा के उद्देश्य को ही व्यर्थ कर देता। और एक तरह से, आज भी हमारे लिए यह बात सही है, क्योंकि आज भी अधिकांश लोग परमेश्वर के वचन के बारे में ‘अनपढ़’ और ‘साधारण’ ही हैं। इसीलिए, उनके लिए भी वचन को उन्हें सीधे, स्पष्ट, और सहज रीति से दिए जाने की आवश्यकता है। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि पौलुस सामान्य लोगों के मध्य बहुत सीधे और सहज रीति से बोलता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:1); और वह आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व लोगों के मध्य ही परमेश्वर के वचन की गूढ़ बातें और भेदो की बात करता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:6-7)। साथ ही, परमेश्वर के वचन के सत्य को प्रस्तुत करने के लिए, परमेश्वर के वचन में किसी भी प्रकार की कोई मानवीय समझ और बुद्धि, या वाक्पटुता के मिलाने की ज़रा भी गुंजाइश नहीं है, लेश-मात्र भी नहीं, क्योंकि शब्दों के ज्ञान का उपयोग क्रूस के सन्देश को व्यर्थ कर देता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17)।

    आने वाले लेखों में हम इस पद में परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई के संबंध में कही गई अन्य बातों पर विचार करना ज़ारी रखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 19

 

    In the previous article we have seen from 2 Corinthians 4:1 how Paul, in handling utilizing and God’s Word, took care of three things – his ministry was God assigned, it was because of God’s mercy, and he labored diligently for his ministry under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. Paul had left the results of his labors to God, without being discouraged or worried about his circumstances, how people behaved towards him, and the results of his ministry. Today we will take up the next verse, i.e., 2 Corinthians 4:2 for consideration, and continue to learn from Paul about our utilizing and handling God’s Word nowadays.

    In this verse Paul gives three characteristics of his utilizing and handling God’s Word, and his purpose in the ministry of God’s Word. Paul says here that he did these things to manifest the truth, commend themselves in every man’s conscience, and being aware that they are always in God’s sight, and God is always aware of whatever they do. The three characteristics of Paul’s ministry, as given in this verse are:

·        Having renounced the hidden things of shame

·        Not walking in craftiness

·        Not handling the Word of God deceitfully

 

    Paul here states that through the above-mentioned characteristics, the aim of his ministry was to manifest the truth so as to make themselves commendable to every person’s conscience, knowing that they are always under the watchful eyes of God. This, through emulating Paul, sets before us another of the purposes of the ministry of God’s Word – to manifest or display the truth. Therefore, we can understand that the ministry of God’s Word is not to display one’s knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures. Paul was a very learned Pharisee, but instead of displaying his knowledge of the Scriptures, he denounced it in light of the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, since that knowledge was unable to have him gain Christ (Philippians 3:7-8). Nor is the Word ministry meant to acquire a fan-following and cause any factionalism or have one’s own group of followers, in the Church; we have seen earlier how Paul strongly spoke against these tendencies (Romans 16:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:6). Nor is it meant to be a means of acquiring worldly wealth and temporal gains – this too Paul has spoken against very strongly (Romans 8:5-7; Philippians 3:19; 1 Timothy 6:5).

    But, as Paul demonstrates from his own life, and says here in this verse, the ministry of the Word of God is to bring forth the truth of God’s Word before the world. This by itself implies that the Word of God has to be presented in its purity and holiness, and unadulterated by any human thoughts or understanding. As we have seen earlier, this has to be done in a clear, simple, straightforward manner, so that the audience can easily understand and follow it. Remember, when Paul wrote this, the vast majority of the population was illiterate, they were simple rustic folks with a limited vocabulary. Therefore, any complex, or idiomatic, or difficult to understand language would defeat the very purpose of preaching and teaching God’s Word; and in a manner of speaking, the same holds true even today, since the vast majority of the people are ‘illiterate’ and ‘simple’ regarding God’s Word even today. Therefore, they too need it to be presented to them in a simple, easy to understand manner. We saw earlier that Paul spoke in very simple straightforward manner to the common people (1 Corinthians 2:1); he spoke the mysteries and wisdom of God’s Word only amongst the spiritually mature (1 Corinthians 2:6-7). Moreover, for presenting the truth of God’s Word, there is no scope, none whatsoever, of mixing in one’s own eloquence and understanding about God’s Word, since, as we have seen earlier, preaching with the wisdom of words only spoils God’s Word, making it vain (1 Corinthians 1:17).

    In the coming articles, we will continue to ponder over the other things stated in this verse, related to the ministry of the Word of God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पौलुस से परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार को सीखते हुए, पिछले लेख में हमने बाइबल के एक नए खण्ड, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 को देखना आरम्भ किया है। इस खण्ड के पहले पद को देखने में, उसकी पृष्ठभूमि को समझने के लिए पिछले लेख में हमने 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:12 में से पौलुस द्वारा कही गई बात, “हियाव के साथ बोलना” के तात्पर्य को देख और समझा था। हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था, लेकिन फिर भी पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सामर्थ्य से वह स्पष्ट, सरल, सीधी भाषा का, बिना किसी भी हिचकिचाहट के उपयोग करता था, और अपनी सेवकाई में बहुत प्रभावी था। यह हमारे सामने परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रभावी उपयोग के लिए एक और पक्ष को  रखता है – पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य और अगुवाई में होकर, स्पष्ट, सरल, सीधी भाषा का, बिना किसी भी हिचकिचाहट के उपयोग करना।

    पौलुस 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 में परमेश्वर की उसकी सेवकाई के बारे में कुछ और बातें भी बताता है। वह यहाँ पर तीन बातें कहता है – पहली, वह जो करता था, वह परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई उसकी सेवकाई थी; दूसरी, क्योंकि पौलुस ने परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध किए गए उसके कार्यों के लिए परमेश्वर से दण्ड नहीं वरन दया प्राप्त की थी, इसलिए वह अपने चुने और सेवकाई के लिए बुलाए जाने में परमेश्वर की दया और अनुग्रह के एहसास के साथ सेवा करता था; तीसरी, पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई ‘बिना हियाव छोड़े’ करता था।

    उसके पहले कथन के विषय, हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि किस प्रकार से पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई का परमेश्वर के द्वारा निर्धारित किए जाने और सौंपे जाने के बारे में अवगत भी था और दृढ़ भी। और इसी प्रकार से परमेश्वर ने अपनी सभी नया जन्म पाई हुई मसीही विश्वासी संतानों के लिए भी सेवकाई निर्धारित की और सौंपी है (इफिसियों 2:10)। इसीलिए पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई के लिए खराई से परिश्रम करता था, परमेश्वर ने उसे जो सौंपा था उसे पूरा करता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:10)। वह अपने ही विचारों और समझ के अनुसार कोई सेवकाई निर्धारित कर के  फिर उसके अनुसार काम कर के उसे परमेश्वर पर नहीं थोप देता था, इस अनुचित आशा के साथ कि परमेश्वर उसे स्वीकार करने और उसके लिए उसे आशीष देने के लिए बाध्य है।

    दूसरा, जैसा पौलुस के साथ था, और जैसा उसने 1 कुरिन्थियों 9:19-27; 15:9-10 में अपने कार्य के बारे में कहा है, उसी प्रकार से प्रभु के लिए हमारी सेवकाई में भी, प्रभु द्वारा हमें सौंपे गए कार्य के लिए, हमें भी कभी इस तथ्य को नहीं भुलाना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर ने अपनी दया में होकर हमें बचाया है, अपनी करुणा और अनुग्रह में हमें अनन्त काल के विनाश से खींच कर निकाला है। साथ ही, यद्यपि हम अपने किसी भी कार्य, किसी भी योग्यता से परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न नहीं कर सकते थे, हमारे ‘धार्मिकता के कार्य’ भी उसकी दृष्टि में मैले चिथड़ों के समान हैं (यशायाह 64:6) और यद्यपि हमारी स्वाभाविक मनसा भला नहीं बल्कि केवल बुरा ही करने की रहती है (भजन 53:2-3; सभोपदेशक 9:3), फिर भी परमेश्वर ने हमें अपने कार्य के लिए उपयोग करने के लिए चुना है। इसीलिए, यह हमारे लिए अनिवार्य है कि हम अपनी सेवकाई परिश्रम और खराई से करें, जैसे पौलुस किया करता था। जो लोग उसके द्वारा दिए गए वरदानों और सामर्थ्य के प्रति लापरवाह रहते हैं, उन्हें उपयुक्त रीति से उपयोग नहीं करते हैं, परमेश्वर फिर उनका मार्गदर्शन भी नहीं करता है, तथा उन्हें और अधिक सामर्थ्य भी प्रदान नहीं करता है। इसीलिए, पौलुस के समान, हमें भी परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के साथ समय बिताने वाला, और हमें सौंपे गए कार्यों को खरे प्रयासों के साथ पूरा करने वाला होना चाहिए।

    तीसरा, परमेश्वर के लिए हमारी सेवकाई, किसी न किसी रीति से शैतान और उसकी सामर्थ्य के साथ एक युद्ध है (इफिसियों 6:12), और प्रभु की सेवकाई के दौरान हमें क्लेशों और समस्याओं में से होकर निकलना ही पड़ेगा (फिलिप्पियों 1:29), यह कभी भी सहज और आरामदेह नहीं होगी। शैतान की शक्तियों के विरुद्ध हमारे संघर्ष में, निराशा, शैतान द्वारा मसीही विश्वासियों के विरुद्ध उपयोग किया जाने वाला एक प्रबल हथियार है। उस पर विजयी होने का सर्वोत्तम तरीका है अपने खरे परिश्रम के परिणामों को प्रभु के हाथों में छोड़ देना, न कि परिणामों को लेकर व्यथित होना, चिंता करना (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:6-8; 15:58)। इसका आधारभूत विचार है, हमें परमेश्वर ने चुना है, उसी ने कार्य के लिए नियुक्त किया है, उस कार्य के उपयुक्त सामर्थ्य प्रदान की है, वही हमारा मार्गदर्शन करता है, और परमेश्वर ही आशीष और परिणाम भी देगा; अब क्योंकि सभी कुछ परमेश्वर ही के हाथों में है, हमारे हाथों में कुछ नहीं है, तो फिर परिणामों की चिंता क्यों करना, जबकि वे भी हमारे हाथों में नहीं है? हमारा काम है खराई और परिश्रम से अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह करना, और जब तक हम वह ठीक से करते रहते हैं, हमें और किसी बात की चिन्ता करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 18

 

    In learning from Paul about how to utilize and handle the Word of God, in the previous article we had started with a new passage from the Bible, 2 Corinthians 4:1-5. As a background to considering verse 1 of this passage, we had considered about Paul’s using “boldness of speech” from 2 Corinthians 3:12. We had seen that despite not being an eloquent speaker, Paul under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit used plain, simple, straightforward language, unhesitatingly, and was very effective in his ministry. This places before us another manner of utilizing God’s Word effectively – use plain, simple, straightforward language, confidently, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

    In 2 Corinthians 4:1, Paul states some other things about his serving God. He says three things in this verse – first, what he was doing was his God given ministry; second, since Paul had received mercy and not retribution from the Lord for his deeds against Him, therefore he served with the realization of God’s mercy in choosing and calling him for His service; thirdly, Paul fulfilled his ministry without ‘losing heart’, i.e., getting discouraged.

    Regarding his first statement, we have seen in the earlier articles, how Paul was aware and sure of the ministry God had given to him, as God has given to all of His children, the Born-Again Christian Believers (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, he ‘labored more abundantly’ to fulfil that which God had asked him to do (1 Corinthians 15:10), instead of devising his own plans and ideas, then working according to them, and imposing them upon God, expecting God to accept and reward them, unrealistically.

    Secondly, as was with Paul, and as he states it in 1 Corinthians 9:19-27; 15:9-10 about his working, similarly for us as well, in our service for the Lord, in fulfilling our God assigned ministry, we too should never lose sight of the fact that God in His mercy, has saved us, has drawn us out of eternal destruction in His love and grace towards us. Moreover, despite our being incapable of pleasing God through anything in us, since even our ‘works of righteousness’ are as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6) and although our natural inclination is only to do evil not good (Psalm 53:2-3; Ecclesiastes 9:3), God has still decided to use us for His work. He has placed His precious treasure in us earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to labor diligently to fulfil our ministry, like Paul did, instead of being casual and careless about it. God will not guide and empower those who do not value His gifts and are not willing to use them worthily. Hence, like Paul, we too should be willing to spend time with God and His Word, and put in sincere efforts to carry out our assignments.

    Thirdly, our ministry for God is, in one way or another, a battle against Satan and his powers (Ephesians 6:12), and we must pass through sufferings and problems (Philippians 1:29) in our service for the Lord; it will never be a cake-walk. In our struggle against the powers of evil, discouragement is often a potent weapon used by Satan against the Believers. The best way to overcome it is to leave the outcome of our sincere and diligent service in the hands of the Lord, instead of fretting about the results (1 Corinthians 3:6-8; 15:58). The underlying thought is, God has chosen us, God has appointed us, God has empowered us, God guides us, God will give the results and blessings; since everything is in God’s hands, nothing is in our hands, then, why worry about the results that anyways are not in our hands? Our work is to labor diligently and sincerely, so long as we do that worthily, there is no need to worry about anything else.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में 2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17 से सीखते आ रहे हैं, जिस से कि हम भी वैसा ही करने वाले बनें। पौलुस द्वारा लिखे गए लेखों में से हमने देखा है कि पहली कलीसिया के समय से ही, कुछ नहीं वरन बहुतेरे प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों ने सुसमाचार का प्रचार और परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षा देने को व्यक्तिगत लाभ कमाने के लिए उपयोग करना आरम्भ कर दिया था, जिसके लिए वे परमेश्वर के वचन और सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ते और भ्रष्ट करते थे। आज से हम अपने ध्यान को पौलुस द्वारा कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी दूसरी पत्री के एक अन्य खण्ड, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 पर ले कर जाएंगे, और वहाँ से पौलुस के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में कुछ और बातों को सीखेंगे।

    पौलुस ने इस से पिछले अध्याय में, अर्थात 2 कुरिन्थियों अध्याय 3 में कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली के लोगों से कहा था कि वे ही उसकी सेवकाई का प्रमाण और उसके लिए सिफारिश की पत्रियाँ हैं, जिन्हें लोग पढ़ सकते हैं और देख तथा समझ सकते हैं कि वह क्या प्रचार कर रहा और सिखा रहा था। पौलुस, 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:12 में अपनी सेवकाई से संबंधित एक और बात कहता है – क्योंकि, जिस सुसमाचार का वह प्रचार करता था, उस से उसके पास जो आशा थी, अनन्तकाल की और धन्य आशा, उसके कारण वह हिम्मत या साहस के साथ प्रचार करता था। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि पौलुस ने निःसंकोच अपने बारे में यह कहा था कि लोग उसे कोई अच्छा या प्रभावी वक्ता नहीं समझते थे (2 कुरिन्थियों 10:1, 10)। किन्तु इस से उसे कोई परेशानी नहीं होती थी, क्योंकि वह वही कहता था जो पवित्र आत्मा उसे बोलने के लिए कहता था, जब और जहाँ उसे बोलने के लिए कहता था। इसलिए, जैसे उसने 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:6-8 में कहा है, वह केवल उसे दिए गए बीज का बोने वाला था, केवल सन्देश-वाहक था; उसके इस परिश्रम को परिणाम परमेश्वर देता था। इसलिए, परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई को पूरी करने के लिए, पौलुस को अपनी किसी योग्यता अथवा कौशल पर कभी भी निर्भर नहीं होना पड़ता था। वह अच्छे से जानता और समझता था कि यदि वह पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन एवं सामर्थ्य में होकर प्रचार और शिक्षा देना करता रहेगा, तो परमेश्वर उपयुक्त परिणाम भी देगा और उसके परिश्रम को आशीषित भी करेगा। तो फिर, पौलुस ने यहाँ पर यह क्यों लिखा, “हम हियाव के साथ बोलते हैं”?

    वर्तमान में हमारे इस शब्द हियाव या साहस के उपयोग के अनुसार, हम इसके अर्थ को जोखिम उठाने, मुंहफट या उद्दण्ड होने के साथ लेते हैं। किन्तु मूल यूनानी भाषा में जिस शब्द का उपयोग किया गया है, और जिसका अनुवाद यहाँ ‘हियाव’ या ‘साहस’ किया गया है, उसका वास्तविक अर्थ है स्पष्ट बोलने वाला या सीधी बात बोलने वाला, वह जो अपनी बात के प्रति निःसंकोच है और उसको खुल कर या बेबाक होकर कहता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, पौलुस को अपने सन्देश के बारे में कभी कोई संकोच नहीं था, वह अपनी बात के लिए कभी कोई हिचकिचाहट नहीं रखता था, और जो भी बोलता था उसे दृढ़ता से कहता था। परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे दिए गए सन्देश को देने के लिए वह कभी चतुराई की बातों का या उसे संकेतों के द्वारा कहने का प्रयास नहीं करता था, न ही किसी आलंकारिक भाषा का या बात को घुमा-फिरा कर कहने की शैली का उपयोग करता था, और न ही उसे अपने सन्देश को आकर्षक, लुभावना, और श्रोताओं के लिए रुचिकर बनाने की कोई आवश्यकता होती थी। वह इस के बारे में बहुत ध्यान रखता था। ऐसा इसलिए था क्योंकि वह इस बात के प्रति बहुत दृढ़ था कि उसने परमेश्वर से जैसा सन्देश प्राप्त किया है, उसे वैसा ही प्रस्तुत भी करे, बिना उस में अपनी और से कुछ भी जोड़े, या अपने द्वारा उसकी प्रस्तुति को और बेहतर बनाने का प्रयास किए (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23; 15:3; गलातियों 1:12; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:2)।

    पौलुस इसी सन्दर्भ में 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 में, अपने और अपने सह-कर्मियों के लिए, उन्हें परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई की विषय कहता है, “तो हम हियाव नहीं छोड़ते।” इसे हम अगले लेख से देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 17

 

    For the past few articles, we have been considering Paul’s utilizing and handling God’s Word from 2 Corinthians 2:17, for our learning of doing the same. Through Paul’s writings, we have seen how, not a few, but many preachers and teachers, right from the time of the first Church, had started to use the preaching of the gospel and the teaching of God’s Word for personal gain and benefit, by distorting and corrupting God’s Word and the gospel. From today we will shift our focus to another section of Paul’ second letter to the Corinthians, to 2 Corinthians 4:1-5, and from there learn some more things from Paul about utilizing and handling the Word of God.

    Paul had said to the Corinthian Believers in the previous chapter, i.e., 2 Corinthians chapter 3, that they were the proof of his ministry and his letter of recommendation, for the world to see, read and understand, what he was preaching and teaching. Paul in 2 Corinthians 3:12 also states another thing related to his ministry – because of the hope, the eternal and blessed hope, that he had, through the gospel which he preached, he used great boldness of speech in his preaching. We have seen earlier, that Paul unhesitatingly admitted that he was not considered to be a great or skillful orator (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10). But this did not bother him, since he spoke what the Holy Spirit asked him to say, when and where the Holy Spirit asked him to speak. So, as he had stated in 1 Corinthians 3:6-8, he was only the sower of the seed given to him, merely the conveyor of the message, it was God who gave results to his labor. Hence, he did not have to bother about or depend upon any of his personal skills and abilities to fulfill his God assigned ministry. He well knew and understood that if he continued to preach and teach under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, God would give the required results, and bless his efforts. Why then did he need to use “great boldness of speech” in preaching the gospel and teaching God’s Word?

    We tend to misunderstand this word ‘boldness’ in our present manner of using this word; i.e., being impudent or aggressive or taking risks in face of dangers. But the word used in the original Greek language and translated as ‘boldness’ here means being out-spoken, or speaking very plainly, being frank, forthright, and assured of what was being spoken. In other words, Paul had no doubts, never vacillated, and was firm in what he spoke. In conveying his God given message, he neither ‘beat around the bush’, did not use any flowery or idiomatic language, nor did he have to resort to anything to make his preaching attractive, appealing, and pleasing to the audience. Notice that Paul does not only say ‘boldness’ but ‘great boldness’; i.e., he emphasizes on this to convey that he was very particular about doing this. This was because, as we have seen about him in the previous articles, he was particular to present God’s message as he had received it, without adding anything to it from his side, or trying to improve its presentation by any means (1 Corinthians 11:23; 15:3; Galatians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 4:2).

    It is in this context, that Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:1, that he and his colleagues ‘do not lose heart’’ in their ministry given to them by God. We will start considering this in the next article.

    जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है, परमेश्वर के वचन के कुछ गुण और उद्देश्य हैं, और यदि वचन को परमेश्वर के पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य के साथ उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्य के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है, तब ये गुण और उद्देश्य दिखाई भी देते हैं। हमारे विषय, परमेश्वर के वचन के “बाहर जाना” के संदर्भ में, हमें इन गुणों और उद्देश्यों का ध्यान रखना अनिवार्य है – परमेश्वर का वचन एक तलवार के समान हृदय को गहराई से छेदने और वहाँ छिपी हुई पापमय बातों को उजागर करने के लिए है; उसका उपयोग मण्डली के लोगों में उन्हें सुधरने और धार्मिकता की शिक्षा दिए जाने के लिए किया जाना है, और यदि आवश्यक हो तो इसके लिए डाँटना और उलाहना देना भी किया जाना चाहिए। जब तलवार को उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्य के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है, तो वह हमेशा ही पीड़ादायक होता है, वह काटती और छेदती है। इसलिए, यदि परमेश्वर का वचन कहीं चुभ नहीं रहा है, जीवन की कोई कमजोरी या कमी या पाप को उजागर नहीं कर रहा है, सुनने वालों को उनके भीतर की, उनके मन और विचारों की वास्तविक दशा का बोध नहीं करवा रहा है, तो फिर वह अपने निर्धारित उद्देश्य को पूरा नहीं कर रहा है; और तब ऐसे किसी भी प्रचार या शिक्षा को स्वीकार करने और मानने के प्रति बहुत सतर्क रहना चाहिए। यदि प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक बाइबल के अनुसार सही शिक्षाएँ नहीं दे रहा है, और यदि आवश्यक होने पर भी डाँटने और उलाहना देने का उपयोग नहीं कर रहा है, तो फिर उस प्रचारक पर भरोसा करना, उसका अनुसरण करना गलत होगा।

    परमेश्वर के वचन को “स्वादिष्ट” और सहज बनाने के लिए, ये “बेचने” वाले प्रचारक वचन की चुभने वाली बातों को निकाल देते हैं, और उनके स्थान पर प्रसन्न करने वाली मनोहर बातें डाल देते हैं। इस प्रकार से वे परमेश्वर के लिखित वास्तविक वचन के “बाहर” चले जाते हैं, उसकी गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग करने, तथा उसमें अपने ही विचार डाल देने, उसे श्रोताओं को भावता हुआ बनाने के द्वारा। ऐसे प्रचारक और उनकी शिक्षाएँ संभवतः श्रोताओं द्वारा बहुत पसन्द की जाएँगी, उनकी प्रशंसा की जाएगी; और प्रचारक को अच्छे उपहार तथा पैसा भी मिलेगा, तथा साथ ही सिफारिश के पत्र भी दिए जाएंगे, जिनका उपयोग ये लोग अपनी बड़ाई और प्रचार के लिए तथा फिर किसी अन्य कलीसिया में जाकर इसी प्रक्रिया को दोहराने के लिए करेंगे। लेकिन क्योंकि परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा श्रोताओं की वास्तविक पापमय दशा उजागर करके उन पर प्रकट नहीं की गई, और न ही श्रोताओं का सामना उनके पापों और बुराइयों से करवाया गया, इसलिए वे अपने पापों के लिए कायल भी नहीं होंगे। और इसीलिए फिर वे अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करने, और उद्धार पाने के लिए उभारे भी नहीं जाएंगे (प्रेरितों 2:37-38)। इसलिए ऐसा प्रचार, उसे सुनने वालों के उद्धार के सन्दर्भ में, व्यर्थ ठहरेगा; और ऐसे संदेशों को सुनने के बाद भी वे लोग नरक के उतने ही भागी बने रहेंगे, जितना वे उस सन्देश को सुनने से पहले थे।

    यह समस्या केवल तब ही नहीं थी, लेकिन आज भी है, उससे कहीं अधिक प्रचलित नहीं तो कम से कम उतनी ही गंभीर तो है ही। आज के समय के पास्टरों, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों का मुख्य उद्देश्य रहता है कि किसी भी तरह से मण्डली के लोगों को बुरा न लगे, ठेस न पहुँचे। यह और भी अधिक तब किया जाता है जब वह प्रचारक कलीसिया के बाहर कहीं से आमंत्रित किया गया होता है। तब ये लोग वही कहते हैं जो लोग सुनना चाहते हैं, जिसे सुनकर वे प्रसन्न होते हैं (2 तीमुथियुस 4:3-4)। परमेश्वर के वचन को “बेचने” वाले ये लोग पार्थिव आशीषों, साँसारिक समृद्धि, शारीरिक चंगाइयों, भौतिक आश्चर्यकर्मों, उज्ज्वल भविष्य की प्रतिज्ञाओं, आदि की बातें करेंगे, लेकिन वे पाप, पाप से पश्चाताप, उद्धार पाने और अनन्त विनाश से बचने की अनिवार्यता – जिस उद्देश्य के लिए प्रभु यीशु मसीह पृथ्वी पर आया था, आदि के बारे में बात नहीं करेंगे।

    थोड़ा विचार कीजिए, “बेचने” वाले ये पास्टर, प्रचारक, शिक्षक जितनी भी भौतिक, पार्थिव, शारीरिक, साँसारिक बातों की बातें करते हैं, ऐसी बातें जो श्रोताओं को अच्छी और “स्वादिष्ट” लगें, वे सभी बातें एक न एक दिन सँसार के साथ या तो नाश हो जाएँगी, अथवा मृत्यु के बाद यहीं पीछे छूट जाएँगी। उस व्यक्ति के साथ जो एकमात्र बात जाएगी, वह है उसके जीवन का हिसाब-किताब, उसके पापों का लेखा-जोखा – वे पाप या तो विद्यमान हैं, कार्यकारी हैं, और उसे अनन्तकाल के विनाश में डालने वाले हैं; या फिर प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा उनका निवारण हो गया है, वे निष्क्रिय कर दिए गए हैं, क्षमा हो गए हैं। तो फिर, ऐसे संदेशों को सुनने वालों के लिए, उन प्रचारकों के ये परमेश्वर के वचन के “बाहर” होकर, मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए दिए जाने वाले इन सन्देशों से क्या लाभ होगा, यदि श्रोता अपने पापों के लिए कायल नहीं किए गए, उन्होंने अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप नहीं किया, और वे प्रभु यीशु मसीह को अपना व्यक्तिगत उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करने के द्वारा बचाए नहीं गए?

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 16

 

 

    As we have seen in the previous article, the Word of God has certain characteristics and purposes, that become evident when it is used under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, for its intended purpose. In context of our understanding “going beyond” God’s Word, we need to keep these characteristics of God’s Word in mind – it is like a sword meant to cut deep into the heart and expose the sinful things hidden there; and it is meant to be used amongst the congregation to correct them and instruct them in righteousness, if required through rebuking and exhorting as well. A sword when used for its intended purpose, always causes pain, and always cuts and penetrates. So, if God’s Word is not creating any discomfort by touching upon sin and short-comings in one’s life, is not making the listeners aware of the actual condition of their hearts and minds, then it is not serving its purpose, because it is not being used for its intended purpose, and one should be very wary of believing on any such preaching. If the preacher or teacher is not teaching Biblically correct doctrines, and if required, is not resorting to rebuking and exhortation to teach the correct things of God, then that preacher is not to be trusted upon and followed.

    To make God’s Word “palatable” and convenient, these peddling preachers take away the prickly parts of the Word, and substitute them with pleasing and pleasant things in their preaching and teaching. Thus they “go beyond” what God’s Word actually says, by misinterpreting it, misusing it, adding their own ideas to it, and make it sound pleasing to the audience. These preachers and their messages would most likely be well appreciated and applauded by the listeners; and the preacher would likely get good gifts and money, and would also be given letters of recommendation, which they will use to promote themselves and then repeat the same process in some other Church. But since, the actual inner sinful state of the audience has not been penetrated into and exposed by God’s Word, nor have the audience been brought face-to-face with their wrongs and sins, so, they are not convicted for their sins. Therefore, they are not motivated into repentance for their sins, and seeking salvation (Acts 2:37-38). Hence, such preaching will bring no results in terms of salvation of the listeners, and even after hearing and appreciating such messages, they would still remain as hell-bound, as they had been before listening to it.

    This problem was not only present at that time, but even today, it is at the very least, just as prevalent, if not much more rampant than it was in the first Church. The main aim of most of the present-day pastors, preachers, and teachers of God’s Word, is not to offend the congregation in any way. This is done even more if they have been called “guest or invited” speakers, from outside the Church. They say things that the congregation likes to hear and is pleased to hear (2 Timothy 4:3-4). The peddlers of God’s Word will talk of temporal blessings, material prosperity, physical healings, worldly miracles, promises of a great future, etc. but will stay away from talking about sin, need of repentance for sin, and necessity of salvation, to escape eternal damnation – the very purpose the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth for.

    Think it over, every worldly thing that these peddling pastors, preachers, and teachers talk about, to sound good and palatable to the audience, will eventually perish with the world, or be left behind when the person dies. The only thing that will go with that person, for accountability before God is the record of their lives, their record of sins – either as present, active and eternally lethal; or, as disposed off, forgiven, and rendered ineffective through coming to faith in the Lord Jesus. So, of what benefit has this “going beyond” God’s Word and being pleasers of men been to those who heard and appreciated those messages, but were not convicted of their sins, did not repent from them, and did not get saved by accepting the Lord Jesus as their savior?

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख से हमने यह देखने और सीखने के लिए कि लोग और प्रचारक क्यों और कैसे परमेश्वर के लिखित वचन से बाहर चले जाते हैं, 2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17 से देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन के बाहर जाने का मुख्य कारण है स्वार्थ-सिद्धि और भौतिक लाभ की वस्तुओं को अर्जित करना। हमने पौलुस की और उन “बहुतों”, झूठे प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों की सेवकाई में विरोधाभास को भी देखा था। जबकि पौलुस परमेश्वर के भय में होकर, परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के लिए, परमेश्वर के वास्तविक वचन का खराई से प्रचार करता था; ये “बहुत से” झूठे प्रचारक और शिक्षक अपनी ही बातें, अपने ही सिद्धान्त प्रचार करते और सिखाते थे, मुख्यतः वे बातें जो श्रोता सुनना चाहते थे, न कि खराई से परमेश्वर का वास्तविक वचन।

·        पौलुस ने तिमुथियुस को लिखा कि परमेश्वर के वचन को उसके निर्धारित उद्देश्यों “उपदेश, और समझाने, और सुधारने, और धर्म की शिक्षा के लिये” उपयोग करे। परमेश्वर द्वारा उसके विषय में निर्धारित इन चार उद्देश्यों में से कम से दो (समझाना और सुधारना – हिन्दी में कुछ हलके शब्द लिखे गए हैं, मूल भाषा और अंग्रेज़ी अनुवादों में प्रयोग किए गए शब्द अधिक कठोर हैं), नहीं तो तीन (धर्म की शिक्षा), ऐसे उद्देश्य हैं जिन्हें लोग उन पर लागू किया जाना पसंद नहीं करते हैं; और परमेश्वर के अधिकांश सेवक ये करने में बहुत संकोच भी करते हैं। शेष बचे हुए उद्देश्य “धर्म की शिक्षा” के लिए भी अधिकांशतः परमेश्वर के वचन की अवहेलना की जाती है, और उसे बदला जाता है, या उसके स्थान पर मनुष्यों की बनाई हुई बातें सिद्धांतों के समान सिखाई और लागू की जाती है। ये सभी परमेश्वर के वचन से आगे बढ़कर करने के उदाहरण हैं। जी शिक्षा और शिक्षक में ये गुण और उद्देश्य नहीं हैं, वह परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार खरी और सही भी नहीं है।

·        पौलुस ने 2 तिमुथियुस 4:2-5 में तिमुथियुस को ज़ोर देकर कहा कि वह दुःख उठाकर भी परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार करे, और अपनी सेवकाई को पूरा करने के लिए जहाँ आवश्यक हो वहाँ लोगों को समझाने और सिखाने के लिए डाँटने और उलाहना देने से पीछे न हटे। गलत शिक्षाएं देने वाले शैतान के जन, परमेश्वर के वचन की सही और खरी शिक्षा देने के लिए यह कभी नहीं करेंगे, क्योंकि उनका उद्देश्य ही लोगों को सही से दूर और गलत में फँसाए रखना है।

·        नए नियम में, परमेश्वर के वचन को दो-धारी तलवार से भी अधिक तेज़ और चोखा कहा गया है (इब्रानियों 4:12), जो मनुष्य के भीतर तक जाकर “मन की भावनाओं और विचारों को जांचता है।” जिस प्रकार से तलवार का शरीर में घुसना और काटना पीड़ादायक होता है, उसी प्रकार से जब परमेश्वर का वचन पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में प्रचार किया जाता है, तो वह मनुष्य के हृदय को छेदता है, उसमें छिपे हुए पापमय विचारों और बातों को खोल देता है। हृदय या विवेक का यह छेदा जाना एक पीड़ादायक और उजागर कर देने वाला अनुभव होता है, जो केवल सही वचन के खराई से प्रचार किए जाने के साथ ही देखा जाता है, अन्यथा नहीं।

 

    अब यदि किसी को परमेश्वर के वचन को “बेचना” या अपने लाभ के लिए उपयोग करना है, तो फिर उन्हें उसे आकर्षक और मनुष्यों को भावता हुआ बना कर प्रस्तुत करना होगा, जिस से कि प्रचारक को प्रशंसा भी मिले और उसकी अच्छी कमाई भी हो। इसके लिए उसे परमेश्वर के वचन में “उपयुक्त” फेर-बदल भी करने होंगे ताकि वह फिर तलवार के समान गहराई से छेदने और उजागर करने वाला न रहे; और न ही वह प्रचारक लोगों को सत्य का अनुसरण करने के लिए डाँटने, उलाहना देने, गलतियों को सुधारने की बातें करेगा। इसके बारे में हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 15

 

    Since the previous article have started looking at 2 Corinthians 2:17, to learn how and people and preachers go beyond what is written in God’s Word. We saw in the previous article that the main reason for going beyond God’s Word is selfish gain and gathering material possessions. We also saw the contrast between the ministry of Paul and these “many” false preachers and teachers. While Paul preached in the fear of God, to please God, and the actual Word of God; these “many” false preachers and teachers preached and taught their own doctrines and things, mainly what the audience wanted to hear, and not the actual Word of God.

    One can argue that while Paul may have been given one kind of ministry and aspect of God’s Word, these people may have been given a different ministry and a different aspect of God’s Word to preach. Just because they did not follow Paul’s style and content of preaching, does not mean that they were wrong, and not to be followed. God has not left us in any doubt or ambiguity about this; God’s Word shows us its purposes and characteristics, and how it acts when used the way it is meant to be used. The implication is that in whichever preaching and teaching or preacher and teacher these characteristics and purposes mentioned in the Bible are not present, Biblically, that is neither correct, nor to be followed. We can briefly see and understand these characteristics and purposes from three places in the Bible:

·        Paul wrote to Timothy about using God’s Word for its God intended purposes, “for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Of these four God intended purposes for His Word, at least two (reproof and correction), if not three (instruction in righteousness), are purposes that people do not like being applied upon them; and most ministers of God are quite reluctant to exercise them. Even for the remaining purpose, “for doctrine”, God’s Word is often ignored or modified, and decisions of men are taught and implemented as doctrines from God. These are all examples of going beyond God’s Word. If any preacher or preaching does not have these characteristics and purposes, then according to God’s Word, it is not honest and correct either.

·        Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2-5, endure afflictions and preach God’s Word, even rebuking and exhorting people if it is so required, in fulfilling the ministry. The agents of Satan, engaged in preaching and teaching wrong doctrines will never do this, since their purpose is to keep people away from the correct and honest teachings, and entangled in the wrong and false doctrines.

·        In the New Testament, God’s Word has been likened to being even sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), that can penetrate deep within a man and is a “discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” of persons. As the penetrating and cutting of the sword into the body is painful, similarly, when the Word of God is presented with the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, it penetrates into the heart of man and lays open the sinful thoughts and intents of the heart. This pricking of the heart or of the conscience is a painful and exposing process, that is seen only with the right Word being preached correctly, not otherwise.

 

    Now, if someone has to “peddle” the Word of God, they will have to make it sound attractive and pleasing to men, so that the preacher receives a good appreciation, and therefore a good remuneration from the audience. For this, he will have to ‘suitably’ alter the Word of God, so that it no longer serves as a ‘sword’ that cuts deep and lays open the hidden things, nor will he resort to correcting wrongs, rebuking people, and exhort them for following the truth. We will see about this in the next article.
