पवित्र आत्मा से भरना को समझना (2)

पिछले लेख से हमने परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से सम्बन्धित एक बहुत आम, किन्तु बाइबल के प्रतिकूल गलत शिक्षा - पवित्र आत्मा से भरना, पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने से पृथक बात एवं अनुभव होना के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने प्रेरितों 1:8 तथा प्रेरितों 2:4 के आधा पर बाइबल से ही देखा है कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना और पवित्र आत्मा से भरना एक ही बात को कहने के दो स्वरूप हैं; वे कोई भिन्न बातें अथवा अनुभव नहीं हैं। साथ ही हमने बाइबल के कुछ अन्य हवालों के आधार पर इस बात की पुष्टि और "भर जाने" के अर्थ को भी देखा था। आज, इसी विषय को ज़ारी रखते हुए हम वाक्यांश “भरे जाना” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाना” के बारे में और अधिक तथा स्पष्टता से समझेंगे। 

इस बात पर भी विचार कीजिए कि जब सामान्य भाषा और प्रयोग में कहा जाए कि “उसने प्रेम से भर कर यह कर दिया”, या “उसने क्रोध से भर कर ऐसा कर दिया”, या “वह घृणा से भर गया”, आदि, तो क्या हम यह समझते हैं कि उस व्यक्ति ने कहीं से या किसी प्रकार प्रेम, या क्रोध, या घृणा की कुछ अधिक मात्रा प्राप्त की और फिर वह कार्य किया? या फिर हम सीधी भाषा में, बिना उसके बारे में कोई भी असमंजस रखे, यह समझ लेते हैं कि किसी बात के कारण वह व्यक्ति, उस में पहले से ही विद्यमान प्रेम, या क्रोध, या घृणा, आदि, की भावना के वशीभूत हो गया और उस वशीभूत होने की स्थिति में उसने वह कार्य कर दिया, जो वह अन्यथा नहीं करता! यही बात “पवित्र आत्मा से भरना, या भरकर कुछ कार्य करना” पर भी लागू होती है, जैसा कि पिछले लेख में दिए गए बाइबल के हवालों में इस वाक्यांश के प्रयोग से स्पष्ट है। सामान्यतः बाइबल में वाक्यांश “भर जाने” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाने” का अर्थ और प्रयोग किसी की सामर्थ्य अथवा उपस्थिति के वशीभूत होकर अथवा उससे प्रेरित होकर कुछ अद्भुत या अभूतपूर्व कर पाने के संदर्भ में होता है, और हमारे विचाराधीन सन्दर्भ में, वह ‘किसी’ पवित्र आत्मा है। अर्थात, पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाना से अभिप्राय है पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य, उसके नियंत्रण में होकर कार्य करना।

प्रभु ने यूहन्ना 14:16 में कहा और मैं पिता से बिनती करूंगा, और वह तुम्हें एक और सहायक देगा, कि वह सर्वदा तुम्हारे साथ रहे। तो अर्थ स्पष्ट है कि अब जब उद्धार के समय एक बार पवित्र आत्मा शिष्यों को दे दिया गया, और पवित्र आत्मा जब उनमें आ गया तो सर्वदा, उनके जीवन भर उनके साथ रहने के लिए आ गया। अब, जब पवित्र आत्मा अपनी संपूर्णता में किसी व्यक्ति में आ गया है, तो फिर इसके बाद उससे अतिरिक्त, या अधिक, या दोबारा तो किसी को कभी मिल ही नहीं सकता है; परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा उस व्यक्ति में अपनी संपूर्णता में हमेशा वही, वैसा ही, और उतना ही रहेगा। तथाकथित “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” या अलग से “पवित्र आत्मा से भरना” इससे अधिक और क्या दे सकता है? इसलिए अब तो बस उस व्यक्ति को अपने में विद्यमान पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति को अपने आचरण द्वारा व्यक्त करते रहना है, अपने व्यवहारिक जीवन में पवित्र आत्मा के प्रभाव एवं नियंत्रण को दिखाते रहना है। इसलिए अब बार-बार पवित्र आत्मा मांगने या भरने की प्रार्थना करने और इससे संबंधित गीत गाने का क्या औचित्य है? अगले लेख में हम वचन से “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आपके लिए यह जानना और समझना अति-आवश्यक है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित इन गलत शिक्षाओं में न पड़ जाएं; न खुद भरमाए जाएं, और न ही आपके द्वारा कोई और भरमाया जाए। यदि आप इन गलत शिक्षाओं में पड़ चुके हैं, तो अभी वचन के अध्ययन और बात को जाँच-परख कर, सही शिक्षा को, उसी के पालन को अपना लें।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Understanding Being Filled With The Holy Spirit (2)

In the previous article we had begun to consider a very common teaching, but one that is contrary to God's Word - that being filled with the Holy Spirit and receiving the Holy Spirit are two different things or experiences. We have seen on the basis of Acts 1:8 and Acts 2:4 from the Bible itself that receiving the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit are two ways of expressing one and the same thing; they are not different things or separate experiences. We had also seen on the basis of some other references from the Bible the confirmation of this fact, and had also seen the meanings of “being filled” as used in the Bible. Today, we will carry on considering the phrase “being filled” to understand it better and be clear about it, from the Bible as well as its use in general conversation.

Ponder over this also, that when in general conversation and usage, if someone says something like, “being filled with love and affection he did this”, or, “being filled with rage he did it”, or “he was filled with hatred”, etc., then do we take this to mean that the person first arranged for and obtained an extra quantity of that feeling or emotion and then carried out the act? Or, do we in a simple and straightforward manner, without any confusion about it, understand and accept that the person was overwhelmed with the already present feeling or emotion in him, and in that state did what he did; which he would not have done in a normal state of mind or emotions? This very understanding, similarly, also applies to the Biblical “being filled with the Holy Spirit and doing something.” As is apparent from the afore-mentioned usages quoted in the previous article from the Bible, the phrase “being filled” denotes doing something extraordinary or very powerful, because of being under the influence of, or being motivated by something, and in our context that ‘something’ is the Holy Spirit. In other words, to act after being filled with the Holy Spirit implies to do something under the control or guidance, and with the power of the Holy Spirit.

In John 14:16, the Lord Jesus has said And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, therefore, the implication is clear - when at the moment of salvation, a Believer has received the Holy Spirit, then it has come to reside in that disciple of the Lord Jesus forever, till the person is alive on earth. Now, when the Holy Spirit has come to reside in the person, He has come in His fullness, and there is no way that the person can ever get some extra portion, or some extra power, or a second time; God the Holy Spirit will always remain in the person in His fullness, with all His qualities and power, and will never change in quantity or quality. Therefore, what more, or what else can the so-called “second experience”, or “being filled with the Holy Spirit”, or “baptism of the Holy Spirit” give to the person? Therefore, now all that the person, the disciple has to do is to keep expressing the Holy Spirit residing within him through his life and behavior, has to keep practically demonstrating the effects and control of the Holy Spirit in his life. Hence, what rationale is there of repeatedly asking for the Holy Spirit to come in, or fill a person and singing worship songs with this meaning? In the next article we will look at “baptism of the Holy Spirit.”

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is very important for you to know and understand that you do not get beguiled and carried away by these wrong teachings about the Holy Spirit. Neither should you get deceived or remain under deception, nor let others be deceived or remain under deception about them. If you have fallen for these wrong teachings, now is your time and opportunity to learn the truth from God’s Word, and start following the Biblical truth, instead of man-made false doctrines and wrong teachings.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

पवित्र आत्मा से भरना को समझना (1)

पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम इफिसियों 4:14 में दी गई बातों में से, बालकों के समान अपरिपक्व मसीही विश्वासियों और कलीसियाओं को प्रभावित करने वाले तीसरे दुष्प्रभाव, भ्रामक या गलत उपदेशों के बारे में देखते आ रहे हैं। इन गलत या भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के मुख्य स्वरूपों के बारे में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने प्रेरित पौलुस के द्वारा 2 कुरिन्थियों 11:4 में लिखवाया है कि इन भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के, गलत उपदेशों के, मुख्यतः तीन स्वरूप होते हैं, यदि कोई तुम्हारे पास आकर, किसी दूसरे यीशु को प्रचार करे, जिस का प्रचार हम ने नहीं किया: या कोई और आत्मा तुम्हें मिले; जो पहिले न मिला था; या और कोई सुसमाचार जिसे तुम ने पहिले न माना था, तो तुम्हारा सहना ठीक होता, जिन्हें शैतान और उसके लोग प्रभु यीशु के झूठे प्रेरित, धर्म के सेवक, और ज्योतिर्मय स्‍वर्गदूतों का रूप धारण कर के बताते और सिखाते हैं। सच्चाई को पहचानने और शैतान के झूठ से बचने के लिए इन तीनों स्वरूपों के साथ इस पद में एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी दी गई है। इस पद में लिखा है कि शैतान की युक्तियों के तीनों विषयों, प्रभु यीशु मसीह, पवित्र आत्मा, और सुसमाचार के बारे में जो यथार्थ और सत्य है वह वचन में पहले से ही बता दिया गया है।

इन तीनों प्रकार की गलत शिक्षाओं में से इस पद में सबसे पहली है कि शैतान और उस के जन, प्रभु यीशु के विषय ऐसी शिक्षाएं देते हैं जो वचन में नहीं दी गई हैं, और इसके बारे में हम पहले विस्तार से देख चुके हैं। दूसरी बात जिसके बारे में भ्रामक शिक्षा और गलत बातें सिखाई, फैलाई जाती हैं, वह है परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय। “कोई और आत्मा तुम्हें मिले; जो पहिले न मिला था”, गलत शिक्षा के पहले विषय के समान ही, इस दूसरी के लिए भी यहाँ यही लिखा गया है, “जो पहिले न मिला था” - अर्थात, जो भी गलत शिक्षाएं और बातें होंगी, वे उन शिक्षाओं और बातों के अतिरिक्त होंगी जो परमेश्वर के वचन में पहले से लिखवा दी गई हैं। और परमेश्वर के वचन में पहले से लिखवाई गई शिक्षाओं के आधार पर उन बाद में लाई गई शिक्षाओं को परखा, जाँचा, और उनकी सत्यता को स्थापित किया जा सकता है।

पिछले लेखों से हमने परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के संबंध में बताई और फैलाई जाने वाली कुछ सामान्य गलत शिक्षाओं के विषय देना आरंभ किया, और यह सीखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी के उद्धार पाते ही, उसी क्षण से, पवित्र आत्मा स्वतः ही आकर मसीही विश्वासियों में जीवन भर के लिए उन में निवास करने लग जाता है। इसलिए किसी भी वास्तविक मसीही विश्वासी को पवित्र आत्मा पाने के लिए अलग से कोई प्रयास करने, या प्रतीक्षा करने, या प्रार्थनाएं करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रत्येक सच्चे, नया जन्म अर्थात उद्धार पाए हुए विश्वासी में, उसके उद्धार पाने के पल से ही विद्यमान है। पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने से संबंधित इस गलत शिक्षा को और बिगाड़ते हुए, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित गलत शिक्षाएं देने वाले ये लोग सिखाते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना एक बात है, किन्तु प्रभावी मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई के लिए एक दूसरे अनुभव - पवित्र आत्मा से भरने, और पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाने की आवश्यकता होती है, और जिसे पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होता है वह फिर अन्य-भाषाएं बोलने लगता है, जो कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त हो जाने का प्रमाण है। उनकी ये शिक्षाएं भी वचन के कुछ भाग को उसके संदर्भ से बाहर लेकर, तथा वचन की अन्य संबंधित बातों का ध्यान रखे बिना, अपनी ही धारणा बना लेने के कारण हैं। आज से हम उनके द्वारा दी जाने वाली पवित्र आत्मा से भरना की व्याख्या और शिक्षा के गलत होने बारे में देखेंगे, और वचन से इस बात के सही अर्थ को समझेंगे।

पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाने का नए नियम का पहला उल्लेख प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के द्वारा पिन्तेकुस्त के दिन पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के साथ किया गया है। प्रेरितों के काम 2:4 में लिखा है, और वे सब पवित्र आत्मा से भर गए, और जिस प्रकार आत्मा ने उन्हें बोलने की सामर्थ्य दी, वे अन्य अन्य भाषा बोलने लगे। ध्यान कीजिए, इस पहले ही उल्लेख में यह नहीं लिखा है कि उन्होंने पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त किया; वरन इस पद 4 का आरंभिक वाक्य कहता है कि “और वे सब पवित्र आत्मा से भर गए”। यह भी नहीं लिखा है कि उन सभी ने पवित्र आत्मा की थोड़ी-थोड़ी सामर्थ्य प्राप्त कर ली; और न ही यह लिखा है कि उन शिष्यों की वरीयता या सेवकाई के महत्व के अनुसार उसी अनुपात में उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा दिया गया। वरन यह स्पष्ट लिखा गया है कि वे सभी पवित्र आत्मा से भर गए। अर्थात, पवित्र आत्मा जब आया, तब सभी एकत्रित शिष्यों पर, वे चाहे जो भी हों और अपने विश्वास में चाहे कितने भी दृढ़ अथवा दुर्बल थे, एक ही रीति से, एक जैसा ही, तथा अपनी परिपूर्णता के साथ आया। किसी पर कम किसी पर ज़्यादा नहीं आया, और उस स्थान पर उपस्थित सभी जन (प्रेरितों 1:15 - गिनती में लगभग 120), बिना किसी भी प्रकार की भिन्नता के, पवित्र आत्मा से भर गए। जैसा कि हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है, प्रभु यीशु ने शिष्यों से प्रेरितों 1:8 में कहा था कि वे पवित्र आत्मा अप्राप्त करेंगे; और अब यहाँ प्रेरितों 2:4 में जब पवित्र आत्मा उनपर आया तो इसे पवित्र आत्मा से भरना कहा गया है। अर्थात, यहाँ पर, पवित्र आत्मा से भरे जाने के प्रथम उल्लेख में ही वचन यह स्पष्ट कर देता है कि पवित्र आत्मा का विश्वासी में आना और उस विश्वासी का पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाना एक ही बात है। इसी से संबंधित एक अन्य महत्वपूर्ण बात और है, बाइबल में पवित्र आत्मा से भरने के लिए किसी अतिरिक्त प्रार्थना, प्रतीक्षा, या प्रयास करने का न तो कोई उदाहरण है, और न ही कोई निर्देश अथवा शिक्षा है। इसे एक अलग या विशेष अनुभव बताना और सिखाना इन लोगों की अपनी मन-गढ़ंत बात है; वचन की शिक्षा नहीं है। साथ ही इस बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य पर भी ध्यान कीजिए - पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर है, पवित्र त्रिएक परमेश्वर का एक व्यक्तित्व, उसे बांटा नहीं जाता है, वह टुकड़ों या किस्तों में नहीं मिलता है (यूहन्ना 3:34), न ही किसी व्यक्ति में उसे घटाया या बढ़ाया जा सकता है, और वह हर किसी सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी में मात्रा तथा गुणवत्ता में समान ही विद्यमान होता है।

इस बात को बेहतर समझने के लिए “भर जाने” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाने” वाक्यांशों को सामान्य प्रयोग के सन्दर्भ में देखते हैं। सामान्य वार्तालाप एवं उपयोग में वाक्यांश “भर जाने” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाने” के विभिन्न अभिप्राय होते हैं, और इस वाक्यांश के विषय ऐसा ही हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में भी देखते हैं। इन विभिन्न अभिप्रायों के कुछ उदाहरण हैं:

* किसी रिक्त/खाली स्थान में समा जाना और उसे अपनी उपस्थिति से ‘भर’ देना या परिपूर्ण अथवा ओतप्रोत कर देना। बाइबल में इस अभिप्राय का एक जाना-माना उदाहरण है मरियम द्वारा प्रभु के पाँवों पर इत्र उडेलना, जिसकी सुगंध से घर सुगंधित हो गया (यूहन्ना 12:3; अंग्रेज़ी में filled with the fragrance) अर्थात सुगंध से भर गया। बाइबल से इसी अभिप्राय का एक और परिचित उदाहरण है राजा के कहने पर सभी स्थानों से लोगों को लाकर ब्याह के भोज के लिए बैठाना जिससे “ब्याह का घर जेवनहारों से भर गया” (मत्ती 22:10)। 

* किसी बात या भावना के वशीभूत होकर कुछ कार्य अथवा व्यवहार करना; जैसे कि 

** लोगों का प्रभु या उसके शिष्यों के विरुद्ध क्रोध से भर जाना और हानि पहुँचाने का प्रयास करना (लूका 4:28-29; 6:11-English; प्रेरितों 5:17; 13:45)

** आश्चर्यकर्म को देखकर अचरज और भय के वशीभूत हो जाना (लूका 5:26-English; प्रेरितों 3:10-English)

** अत्यधिक आनंदित हो जाना (प्रेरितों 13:52)

* पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करना (प्रेरितों 9:17) - यहाँ एक बार फिर से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना और उससे परिपूर्ण हो जाने, या उस से भर जाने को एक ही समान बताया गया है। 

* पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से अभूतपूर्व कार्य करना (प्रेरितों 4:8, 31; 13:9-11)

उपरोक्त उदाहरणों से यह स्पष्ट है कि वाक्यांश “भरे जाना” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाना” सदा ही केवल एक ही अर्थ अथवा अभिप्राय के साथ बाइबल में प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है, पवित्र आत्मा के सन्दर्भ में भी नहीं; वरन इस वाक्यांश को उसके सन्दर्भ में देखने के द्वारा ही उसके वास्तविक अर्थ को समझा जा सकता है। इसलिए, इस पर जोर देना और सिखाना कि वाक्यांश “भरे जाना” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाना” का सदा ही केवल एक ही अर्थ अथवा अभिप्राय होता है, उनके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन की मन-गढ़ंत गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग करना है।

अगले लेख में हम वाक्यांश “भरे जाना” या “परिपूर्ण हो जाना” के बाइबल तथा सामान्य प्रयोग और भाषा में उपयोग के आधार पर उसके भिन्न अर्थों और तात्पर्यों को देखेंगे और समझेंगे।

Understanding Being Filled With The Holy Spirit (1)

    In the past few articles, from Ephesians 4:14, we have been looking into the deceptive teachings and tricks of Satan that adversely influence the immature Christian Believers and the Church. The Holy Spirit has got written about the three main forms of these deceptive teachings by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:4, For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!; which Satan and his followers usually use as their false teachings to beguile and mislead the people. They disguise themselves as false apostles, ministers of righteousness, and angels of light to preach and teach these deceptive doctrines, using various tricks to impress and influence people, and cunningly make them think that these satanic agents are actually divine. In this verse we have also been given another very important fact, that helps us to identify the deceptions of Satan and escape falling for them. This verse tells us that all things that are true, factual, and to be accepted about the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Gospel, have already been given in God’s Word; thereby implying that anything outside of God’s Word is from Satan, and is not to be accepted.

The first theme given in 2 Corinthians 11:4 is wrong teachings and concepts about the Lord Jesus, and we have seen them in some detail in the previous articles. The second topic of the wrong teachings and concepts, mentioned in this verse, is the Holy Spirit, “if you receive a different spirit which you have not received”. As stated for the wrong teachings for the first theme, for this second theme too it is written, “which you have not received” - again implying that all the wrong and deceptive teachings will be those that are other than the ones already given in the Word of God. And, these correct teachings that have already been given can be used as a standard to measure and evaluate the other teachings and ascertain whether they are true or not.

From the recent articles, we have started to look into the common wrong teachings and concepts about the Holy Spirit, and had learnt that contrary to the wrong teachings, a Christian Believer is automatically given the Holy Spirit from the moment of his being saved, or being Born-Again, and He comes to permanently reside in him from the moment of his being saved. Therefore, no true Christian Believer ever needs to do any extra efforts, tarry, or pray and plead to receive the Holy Spirit from the Lord God, since the Holy Spirit is already residing within every truly Born-Again Believer. Further corrupting their wrong teaching these preachers and teachers of wrong doctrines, go on to preach and teach that receiving the Holy Spirit is one thing, but for an effective Christian life and Ministry a second experience - being filled with the Holy Spirit, or baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential, and whoever receives the Holy Spirit also starts speaking in “tongues”, which is the proof of having received the Holy Spirit. These teachings given by them are again based on taking portions of the Scriptures, out of their context, and misinterpreting them without keeping certain other pertinent Biblical facts in mind. From today we will look into their false notion of “being filled with the Holy Spirit” and understand it’s true meaning from God’s Word.

The first mention of being filled with the Holy Spirit in the New Testament is when the disciples of the Lord Jesus received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. It is written in Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Take note of what is stated in this very first reference to filling with the Holy Spirit; it does not say that the disciples received the Holy Spirit, rather, the opening part of the sentence is “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” Neither does it say that each of the disciples received a measure of the Holy Spirit, nor does it say that the disciples in proportion to their status or ministry, received proportionate amounts of the Holy Spirit. Rather, it is very clearly written that they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is quite evident that when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples gathered in that room, He came upon all of them in the same manner, in His fullness, the same for everyone, irrespective of who they were and whatever their level of belief and faith may have been. He did not come more on some and less on the others; all those who were present at that place (about 120 - Acts 1:15) were filled with the Holy Spirit, without any differentiation of any kind. As we have seen in the preceding articles, the Lord Jesus in Acts 1:8 had spoken to the disciples about their receiving the Holy Spirit; now in acts 2:4 when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples it has been written as they were filled with Him. Thus, God’s Word makes it very clear in this very first mention of being filled with the Holy Spirit that receiving the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit are one and the same thing. There is another related and very important Biblical fact, in the whole of the Bible, there is no instruction or teaching or example of anyone ever praying, or tarrying, or making any special efforts to be filled with the Holy Spirit. To present, preach, and teach this as a separate, or special, or a “second experience” is a concocted doctrine made up by these people, that has no basis or affirmation from the Bible. Moreover, do give this very important fact a serious thought - the Holy Spirit is God, a person of the Triune God, of the Holy Trinity; He cannot be broken or divided into portions, or bits and pieces. Neither is He given in parts (John 3:34), nor can He be increased or decreased in quantity or quality in any person. He is present just the same in every Christian Believer, in all His fullness and all His qualities.

To understand this better, let us consider the use of the phrase “being filled” in general conversation and use. In general conversation and use, the phrase “being filled” can have different connotations, and we see the same in the use of this phrase in the Bible as well. Some examples of the Biblical use of this phrase to convey different meanings are:

* To permeate in, or spread in a place, to occupy and make the presence felt everywhere. A very well-known Biblical example of this meaning is the pouring out of the fragrant oil by Mary on the feet of Jesus and the fragrance of the oil “filled” the house (John 12:3). Another well-known example of the same connotation is the King calling for people to be brought in for the wedding feast, and “...And the wedding hall was filled with guests” (Matthew 22:10).

* To act under an influence or under an emotion; e.g.,

** The people being filled with anger, and wanted to harm the Lord Jesus and His disciples (Luke 4:28-29; 6:11; Acts 5:17; 13:45)

** To be filled with fear and astonishment on witnessing a miracle (Luke 5:26; Acts 3:10)

** To become very happy and joyful (Acts 13:52)

* To receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17) - here again, receiving and being filled with the Holy Spirit have been stated as one and the same thing.

* To do extraordinary things through the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:8, 31; 13:9-11)

We see from these examples that even in the Bible “being filled” does not always mean or convey one and the same meaning, not even in reference to the Holy Spirit. Rather it has to be taken in, and understood in its context to understand the actual meaning with which this phrase has been used. Therefore, insisting on always ascribing one and the same meaning to the phrase is a contrived misinterpretation and misuse of God’s Word.

In the next article we will continue to see and analyze the phrase “being filled” in its Biblical and general usage to clearly grasp the various meanings and implications it is used in.

Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में शैतान द्वारा फैलाए जाने वाले गलत सिद्धान्तों और झूठी शिक्षाओं का परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से विश्लेषण एवं जाँच-परख करते हुए हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में भ्रामक शिक्षाओं को देने वाले लोगों की एक बहुत आम किन्तु सर्वथा गलत शिक्षा है कि उद्धार पाने के बाद पवित्र आत्मा पाने के लिए विश्वासियों को प्रतीक्षा, प्रयास, और प्रार्थनाएं करनी होती हैं। बाइबल में इस गलत शिक्षा का कोई समर्थन नहीं है। अपनी इस गलत शिक्षा को सही दिखाने के लिए, ये लोग प्रेरितों 1:1-8 का हवाला देते हैं, जहाँ प्रभु ने शिष्यों से सुसमाचार प्रचार पर निकलने से पहले पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने की प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए कहा है। प्रभु की कही बात के बारे में पिछले लेख में हमने कहा था कि यहाँ पर पद 5-8 में दो महत्वपूर्ण बातें दी गई हैं; और व्याख्या करते समय इन दोनों बातों का ध्यान रखना अनिवार्य है। इन दो में से पहली बात, प्रतीक्षा करने के बारे में हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है कि क्यों और कैसे या के उस समय उन चेलों ही के लिए कही गई बात थी, न कि सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए सदा लागू होने वाला कोई सिद्धान्त। आज हम यहाँ दी गई दूसरी बात के बारे में देखेंगे।  

दूसरी बात, प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में प्रभु उन्हें स्मरण दिला रहा है कि वह उन्हें पहले भी पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में न केवल बता चुका है, वरन इसके विषय उनसे चर्चा भी कर चुका है, अर्थात उसके दिए जाने क बारे में विस्तार से उन्हें बता और समझा चुका है। उन शिष्यों के साथ, सेवकाई के दिनों में, प्रभु ने कई बार उन से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने की बात कही थी; किन्तु हर बार यह भविष्य काल में ही होने की बात थी; अर्थात प्रभु ने उन्हें यही सिखाया था पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें बाद में उचित समय पर दिया जाएगा। किन्तु अपनी बात को सही दिखाने के लिए ये गलत शिक्षाओं वाले लोग वचन के हवालों और वहाँ लिखी बात को अनुचित रीति से बताते हैं। इस बारे में उनके द्वारा सामान्यतः प्रयोग किए जाने वाले बाइबल के हवाले और उनसे संबंधित विचार करने योग्य बातें हैं :

* लूका 11:13 – इस पद का दुरुपयोग यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि प्रभु ने कहा है कि पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर से मांगने पर मिलता है। जबकि यदि इस पद को उसके संदर्भ (पद 11-13) में देखें, तो यह स्पष्ट है कि यह आलंकारिक भाषा का प्रयोग है, एक तुलनात्मक कथन है। प्रभु, किसी सांसारिक पिता के अपनी संतान की आवश्यकता के लिए उसे सर्वोत्तम देने की मनसा रखने की बात कर रहा है। जैसे सांसारिक पिता अपने बच्चों को यथासंभव उत्तम देता है, वैसे ही परमेश्वर भी “अपने” लोगों को – जो प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा उसकी संतान बन गए हैं (यूहन्ना 1:12-13), सर्वोत्तम देना चाहता है। साथ ही, हर किसी मांगने वाले को पवित्र आत्मा देने के लिए परमेश्वर बाध्य नहीं है; मांगने वाले का मन भी इसके लिए ठीक होना चाहिए, अर्थात उसे वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाया हुआ होना चाहिए। प्रेरितों 8:18-23 में शमौन टोन्हा करने वाले को गलत मनसा रखते हुए पवित्र आत्मा मांगने से अच्छी डाँट-फटकार मिली, न कि पवित्र आत्मा, और उसकी वास्तविकता उजागर कर दी गई यद्यपि वह प्रभु में विश्वास करने का दावा करता था; उसने बपतिस्मा भी लिया था, और विश्वासियों की संगति में भी रहता था (प्रेरितों 8:13)।

* यूहन्ना 7:37-39 – पवित्र आत्मा दिए जाने से सम्बन्धित यह एक और खण्ड है। यहाँ पर भविष्य काल को व्यक्त करने वाले वाक्यांशों पर ध्यान कीजिए, “बह निकलेंगी”; “पाने पर थे” – भविष्य काल – और साथ ही शर्त भी कह दी गई है कि ऐसा उनके लिए होगा “जो उस पर विश्वास करने वाले” होंगे – जैसा ऊपर देख चुके हैं, जो विश्वास करेगा, उसे विश्वास करते ही तुरंत ही मिल जाएगा; जिसने सच्चा विश्वास नहीं किया (यह केवल प्रभु ही जानता है, कोई मनुष्य नहीं, कि किसने सच में विश्वास किया है, और किसने नहीं), उसे नहीं मिलेगा, वह चाहे कितनी भी प्रार्थनाएं, प्रतीक्षा, या प्रयास करता रहे। जिसने विश्वास किया, उसे फिर कुछ और करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, और न ही करने के लिए कहा गया है।

* यूहन्ना 14:16-17 – इन पदों में भी एक बार फिर से भविष्य काल पर ध्यान दीजिए: “देगा”, “होगा” – भविष्य काल – इस आश्वासन के साथ कि जब पिता देगा तो फिर वह सर्वदा साथ रहेगा। यह वैसा नहीं है जैसे पुराने नियम में था – पवित्र आत्मा कुछ समय के लिए आएगा और फिर चला जाएगा, (ओत्निएल न्यायियों 3:9,10; गिदोन न्यायियों 6:34; यिप्ताह, शमसून, राजा शाऊल 1 शमूएल 10:6, 10; दाऊद 1 शमूएल 16:13, आदि)

* यूहन्ना 16:7 – एक और स्थान जहाँ प्रभु ने भविष्यकाल का आश्वासन दिया है “सहायक आएगा; उसे भेजूँगा” – भविष्य काल – पवित्र आत्मा को भविष्य में आना था; उसी समय नहीं। 

* यूहन्ना 20:22 – “लो” – अभी तक जो भविष्य की बात कही जा रही थी, अब उसका समय आ गया था, अब इस बात को एक प्रक्रिया के अंतर्गत पूरा होना था, प्रभु द्वारा निर्धारित विधि से प्राप्त करना था।  प्रभु ने यह अपने पुनरुत्थान के बाद शिष्यों से कहा – उन्हें पहले की प्रतिज्ञा स्मरण करवाई, और स्वर्गारोहण के समय उसकी प्रक्रिया भी बताई (लूका 24:49)। पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु की फूँक में नहीं था, और न ही कभी फूंकने के द्वारा किसी को दिया गया।

    पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित कुछ अन्य गलत शिक्षाओं, जैसे के अन्य भाषाएँ बोलना, पवित्र आत्मा के उद्देश्य और कार्य, आदि को हम आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे।

यदि आप एक सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी हैं, पापों से पश्चाताप करने और प्रभु यीशु से उनकी क्षमा माँगने, अपना जीवन प्रभु को समर्पित करने के द्वारा आपने नया जन्म अर्थात उद्धार पाया है, तो आपके उद्धार पाने के पल से ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आप में निवास कर रहा है, आपकी सहायता और शिक्षा के लिए आप में विद्यमान है। इसलिए किसी गलत शिक्षा में न फंसे, और यदि पड़ गए हैं तो उपरोक्त पदों का ध्यान करते हुए, उन शिक्षाओं से बाहर आ जाएं। पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर है, किसी मनुष्य के हाथों की कठपुतली नहीं जिसे कोई मनुष्य अपने किन्हीं प्रयासों अथवा निर्धारित विधियों के द्वारा नियंत्रित और निर्देशित कर सके।

False Teachings About Receiving The Holy Spirit (3)

While evaluating and analyzing from God's Word the Bible, the false doctrines and wrong teachings about the Holy Spirit spread by deceptive people, we had seen in the previous article that one very common but wrong and deceptive teaching given by these people is that after being saved, one has to 'tarry' or wait, make special efforts, and pray, to receive the Holy Spirit. There is no Biblical support for this wrong teaching. To justify their false teaching, these people quote Acts 1:1-8 where the Lord has told His disciples to wait till they receive the Holy Spirit, before going out for the ministry of preaching the gospel. We had said in the previous article about this thing stated by the Lord, that here, in verses 5-8, two very important things are given, which should never be overlooked while interpreting this passage. Of these two, we had seen about the first thing, i.e., waiting or tarrying, in the last article. We had seen how and why this was said only for those disciples of that time, and it is not a doctrinal statement to be applied for all Christian Believers at all times. Today we will consider the second thing stated here.

Secondly, In Acts 1:4-8 the Lord is reminding them that He had already told them about the Holy Spirit, had already discussed this with them, i.e., had explained to them in detail about their receiving the Holy Spirit. During the time of His ministry on earth, while with the disciples, the Lord had talked to them about receiving the Holy Spirit on multiple occasions; but every time, it was stated in the future tense, i.e., the Lord had been teaching them that at an appropriate time they would receive the Holy Spirit. But these preachers and teachers of false doctrines, to justify their teachings, misuse and misinterpret what the Lord had said to the disciples. The commonly used Bible references by these people, and what needs to be pondered over in these references are:

* Luke 11:13 - This verse is misused to show that the Lord has said that the Holy Spirit will be given to those who ask for Him. But when we look at this verse in its context (verses 11-13), then it becomes clear that this statement of the Lord is a figure of speech, a comparative statement. The Lord is talking about an earthly father desiring to give the best possible to his child. As an earthly father wants to give the best that he possibly can to his child, similarly God the Father too wants to give the best that He can to His children - the Holy Spirit - to those who have become His children by accepting the Lord Jesus as their saviour (John 1:12-13). Moreover, God is under no compulsion to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks for Him; the one desiring to have the Holy Spirit, should also be worthy of Him, i.e., an actually Born-Again or saved person. In Acts 8:18-23, Simon the Sorcerer wanted to receive the Holy Spirit with a wrong motive, but all he got was a severe admonition, not the Holy Spirit; and his actual condition of not being in the faith was exposed, although he claimed to believe in the Lord Jesus, had taken baptism, and used to stay in fellowship with the Believers (Acts 8:13).

* John 7:37-39 - This is another passage about the Holy Spirit being given. Here, take note of the future tense phrases, "will flow rivers of living water”, “the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive”, and a condition has also been given that this will happen for “He who believes in Me”; i.e., he who believes in the Lord will also receive the Holy Spirit; but the one who has not really come to the faith (no man knows this about another, only the Lord does), will not receive, as we have seen above, no matter how many prayers, pleading, efforts, and tarrying he may do. But the one who has actually come into faith in the Lord Jesus will not have to do anything, nor has he been asked to do anything, the saved person will automatically receive the Holy Spirit also.

* John 14:16-17 - In these verses once again take note of the future tense phrases: “He will give you another Helper”, “will be in you” have been used with the assurance that it is God who will give, and then the Holy Spirit will abide or remain in the Believer always. This is unlike what used to happen in the Old Testament where the Spirit would come for a purpose and duration and then go away, (Othniel in Judges 3:9,10; Gideon in Judges 6:34; King Saul in 1 Samuel 10:6, 10; David in 1 Samuel 16:13, etc.).

* John 16:7 - Another place where the Lord has assured in the future tense “Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” - the Spirit had to come to the disciples sometime in future, when the Lord would send Him.

* John 20:22 - “Receive the Holy Spirit” A post-resurrection statement from the Lord to the disciples; what had been for the future, its time had now come, it had to be fulfilled in a particular manner. The Lord, after His resurrection, reminded the disciples of the previously made promise, and then at the time of His ascension, told them about the fulfilling (Luke 24:49). The Holy Spirit was not in the breath of the Lord that He breathed upon the disciples, nor was He ever given to anyone by breathing upon the person.

Some other wrong teachings and false doctrines related to the Holy Spirit, e.g., speaking in tongues, the purposes and works of the Holy Spirit, etc., we will see in the subsequent articles.

If you really are a Christian Believer, if you have been Born-Again by repenting of your sins, asking the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and surrendering your life to the Lord Jesus, then God the Holy Spirit is residing in you since the moment of your salvation, to teach and help you. Therefore, do not fall for any wrong teachings; and in case you have got entangled with the wrong teachings, keeping the above-mentioned verses in mind, come out of the wrong teachings. The Holy Spirit is God, not a puppet in the hands of men, that can be manipulated and dispensed by man-made methods.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.
