बाइबल के स्वरूप के निहितार्थ – 2

 

    हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि चाहे पुराने नियम के समय में हो अथवा नए नियम के, परमेश्वर का लोगों के साथ वार्तालाप करने का तरीका उसके द्वारा चुने गए कुछ लोगों में होकर करना ही रहा है। उसने नबियों, प्रेरितों, तथा कुछ अन्यों से सीधे बोल कर बातें कीं, उन से दर्शनों और स्वप्नों के द्वारा बातें कीं। फिर इन लोगों ने परमेश्वर की ओर से, परमेश्वर के सन्देश को, सँसार के लोगों तक पहुँचाया। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने इन चुने हुए लोगों को प्रेरित किया और उनसे उन बातों को लिखवाया जो परमेश्वर ने उन से कही थीं। पवित्र आत्मा ही की अगुवाई में इन लेखों को एकत्रित एवं संकलित किया गया, जो अब हमारे हाथों में पूर्ण बाइबल के रूप में है – जो परमेश्वर का अनन्तकालीन, बिना किसी गलती वाला, अटल, अपरिवर्तनीय, सिद्ध और सम्पूर्ण वचन है जो अनन्त काल के लिए स्वर्ग में स्थापित है।

    तो, हम बाइबल के इतिहास से देखते हैं कि कुछ डिनॉमिनेशंस द्वारा किए जाने वाले दावों और सामान्य प्रचलित धारणाओं के विपरीत, परमेश्वर ने उन सब से जो उसके नाम से जाने जाते हैं, न तो सीधे बोल कर बातें कीं, और न ही उन सभी को अपने बारे में दर्शन दिए या सभी से स्वप्न में कुछ कहा, वरन केवल कुछ ही लोगों को इसके लिए उपयोग किया। इसलिए वर्तमान में लोगों द्वारा सीधे परमेश्वर से सन्देश, दर्शन, या स्वप्न प्राप्त करने का दावा करना, और वह भी उन बातों के बारे में जो बाइबल में दी ही नहीं गई हैं, और फिर योएल 2:28 और उसके जैसे बाइबल के पदों के द्वारा अपने आप को सही ठहराने के तर्क देना, परमेश्वर के वचन का दुरुपयोग करना है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर कभी भी उस वचन के बाहर या अतिरिक्त, जो वह पवित्र शास्त्र में दे चुका है, कभी कुछ नहीं कहेगा या देगा।

    यह सम्पूर्ण और संकलित वचन अनन्त काल के लिए स्वर्ग में स्थिर रखा गया है (भजन 119:89); और परमेश्वर ने अपने इसी वचन को अपने बड़े नाम से भी अधिक महत्व दिया है (भजन 138:2)। उसने अपने वचन बाइबल में पहले से ही न केवल जीवन और भक्ति से संबंधित हर बात दे दी है; वरन साथ ही सँसार की सड़ाहट से बचाने तथा ईश्वरीय स्वभाव के संभागी होने का मार्ग भी दे दिया है (2 पतरस 1:3-4)। इसलिए, बाइबल में होकर परमेश्वर ने पहले से ही हमें उसके बारे में सीखने, उसके सम्मुख आने, उसे और उसकी इच्छा को जानने, उससे संपर्क एवं वार्तालाप करने, अपने जीवन और मार्गों का आकलन करने के माप दण्ड, कि हमारा जीवन हमारे लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार है कि नहीं, सब कुछ हमें पहले से ही दे दिया है। इसलिए, इसका तात्पर्य यही है कि अब इन बातों के बारे में परमेश्वर को किसी को भी कोई नए संदेश अथवा दर्शन देने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, क्योंकि यह सभी कुछ बाइबल में पहले से ही उपलब्ध है। किन्तु यदि अब भी परमेश्वर को जीवन और भक्ति से संबंधित तथा संसार की सड़ाहट से बचने और ईश्वरीय स्वभाव के संभागी होने के लिए, किसी को कोई नए संदेश अथवा दर्शन देने पड़ते हैं, तो इसका यही अर्थ हुआ कि उसने जो 2 पतरस 1:3-4 में लिखवाया है वह सही नहीं है – अर्थात, या तो परमेश्वर ने झूठ बोल, या फिर, परमेश्वर के वचन में गलतियाँ हैं और वह पूर्ण नहीं है, अभी भी उसमें नए दर्शनों और संदेशों के द्वारा और बातें डाले जाने की आवश्यकता है। क्योंकि परमेश्वर कभी झूठ बोल ही नहीं सकता है (गिनती 23:19; 1 शमूएल 15:29; इब्रानियों 6:18), और परमेश्वर का वचन जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह का एक स्वरूप है न तो गलत हो सकता है और न ही अपूर्ण; इसलिए जो बात गलत है, जिस पर कभी विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिए, न ही कभी उसे स्वीकार करना चाहिए, वह है वे दावे जो यह दर्शन और भविष्यवाणियाँ प्राप्त करने का दिखावा करने वाले प्रचार करते हैं, सिखाते हैं; और अकसर उनके बातें न केवल बाइबल के बाहर की होती हैं, बल्कि शायद ही कभी पूरी भी होती हैं। और परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ यह छेड़-छाड़, उसका दुरुपयोग एवं अनादर करना है, अर्थात परमेश्वर का अनादर, उसके साथ दुर्व्यवहार करना है।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Implications of Nature of The Bible - 2

 

    We saw in the previous article that whether in the times of the Old Testament, or of the New, God’s method of communicating with the world was through His few chosen people, the Prophets, the Apostles, and some others, by speaking to them or through visions and dreams. These people then, on God’s behalf, would convey God’s message to the world. God the Holy Spirit had inspired these chosen people of God write down what God communicated to and through them. These writings were compiled under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to give us what we now have as the complete Bible – God’s eternal, inerrant, infallible, unalterable, perfect and complete Word, forever settled in heaven for all eternity.

    So, we see from the history of God’s Word that unlike a popular perception and claim by people of some denominations, God did neither spoke with, nor gave visions and dreams about Himself and what He wanted to communicate, to everybody known by His name, but only to a select few; whether in the Old Testament or the New Testament times. Therefore, for people to nowadays claim receiving direct spoken communication, dreams, visions, from God, and that too about things not already mentioned in the Bible, and then wanting to justify it on the basis of Joel 2:28 is misusing the Scriptures because God will never speak or say anything outside of what He has already given in the Scriptures.

    This completed and compiled Word of God is kept in heaven for all eternity (Psalm 119:89); and God has given more importance to this His Word, than even to His name (Psalm 138:2). In His Word, The Bible, He has already given to us not only everything that pertains to life and godliness; but also the way to escape the corruptions of the world; and become partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4). Therefore, in the Bible, God has given us a complete package to learn about Him, approach Him, know Him, know His will, communicate with Him, evaluate and measure our life and our ways to check if they are in accordance with what God wants from us. Therefore, the implications is that now there is no need for God to give anyone any fresh or new messages or visions about these things, since they have already been made available in the Bible. If still God has to give any new revelations about things pertaining to life and godliness, escaping corruption from the world and being partakers of the divine nature, then that means what was said by Him in 2 Peter 1:3-4 was incorrect – God either lied, or, the Word of God is neither correct nor complete, it still needs to be supplemented with fresh revelations. Since God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Hebrews 6:18), and God’s Word being a physical form of the Lord Jesus cannot be incorrect or incomplete, therefore, the only thing incorrect that should neither be believed nor accepted, is the claim made by those who show-off, preach, and teach receiving such revelations and prophesies, that usually never come to pass and are often extra-Biblical. So, this tampering with God’s Word, is misusing and insulting God’s Word; i.e., is insulting God and maltreating Him.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि बाइबल अनुपम है, न तो इसे सँसार की किसी भी अन्य पुस्तक के समान देखा जा सकता है, और न ही सँसार की किसी पुस्तक से इस की तुलना की जा सकती है, क्योंकि यह परमेश्वर के द्वारा दी गयी है, पवित्र आत्मा की प्रेरणा द्वारा लिखी गई है, और स्वयं प्रभु यीशु का ही एक स्वरूप है जिसे एक उद्देश्य से हमारे हाथों में रखा गया है। बाइबल के इन तथ्यों का अधिकांश लोग एहसास नहीं रखते हैं और न ही उन्हें कोई मान्यता देते हैं, यहाँ तक कि बाइबल पढ़ने वाले और बाइबल में विश्वास रखने वाले अधिकांश मसीही भी नहीं। इसीलिए, यह प्रत्येक मसीही की ज़िम्मेदारी है कि उसे उसका भण्डारी होना है, ताकि वह इसका ध्यान रखे कि परमेश्वर के जीवित वचन बाइबल को उसका उचित आदर और श्रद्धा प्राप्त हो। इस भण्डारीपन का तात्पर्य है यह सुनिश्चित करना कि बाइबल और उसके सत्यों के साथ कभी कोई छेड़-छाड़ न हो, उनका दुरुपयोग, गलत व्याख्या, उनसे अनुचित व्यवहार कभी न हो, और वे हमेशा ही उनके वास्तविक सच्चे स्वरूप में औरों के सामने प्रस्तुत किए जाएं।

English Translation

Implications of Nature of The Bible - 1

 

    In the previous article we have seen how The Bible is unique, can neither be seen as, nor compared with any other book of the world, since it is God breathed, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, and is a form of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, that has been placed in our hands for a certain purpose. These Biblical facts are seldom realized and acknowledged by most, even most of the Bible reading and Bible believing Christians. Therefore, it is every Christian Believer’s responsibility, his stewardship to ensure that God’s Living Word The Bible is given its due honor and reverence. This stewardship means ensuring that The Bible and its truths are never be tampered with, are not misused, misinterpreted, mishandled, and are always presented in their actual form to others.

    For now, we will first look at some implications that are inherent in this understanding about the form and nature of God’s Word The Bible that we have seen in the previous article. Then, later, we will consider the various ways in which Satan induces, often inadvertently, these wrong practices about the Bible and things written in it, through the ministry of the Word of God to happen. These errors can be seen even in and through the ministry of some quite knowledgeable, well-known, well-respected, well-meaning, pious, committed Born-Again Christian Believers, preachers and teachers of God’s Word.

    Now, we have the complete Bible in our hands, which was not so in the Old Testament times. At that time God spoke to His people through His Prophets and chosen people, speaking to them directly, or through using visions and dreams as well to communicate what He wanted to say to them and through them (Numbers 12:6; Daniel 1:17; 7:1). In other words, God did not communicate with everyone directly, but only through a few that were chosen by Him for the benefit of all. The Holy Spirit had the Prophets and chosen people of God write what was spoken to them as individual books; which then were used as the Scriptures by the Jews. Even the Lord Jesus in His earthly ministry read from and quoted from these inspired writings (Luke 4:3-12, 16-21). So, even in the Old Testament times, God did not speak with everyone and anyone, but only to and through His chosen few. But He communicated with the general population and His people the Israelites, through His Prophets and He made available their writings to the people, and for posterity, to teach them about Himself, show them His will, guide and instruct them, and correct them (Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Joshua 1:8; 1 Samuel 3:21; 2 Chronicles 34:18-19, 21, 24-27). At the time of the first Church, in the first century AD, the Gospels, the Letters, and other books were written; again through a few – the Apostles and other chosen by God, for the benefit of all. All of these Old and New Testament writings were compiled together under the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit to provide for us the completed Word of God which we know as and call “The Bible.”

परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने को समझने से पहले, हमारे लिए अच्छा होगा यदि हम परमेश्वर के वचन, मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में उसकी भूमिका, और हमें उसका भला भण्डारी क्यों होना है, आदि बातों को समझ लें।

यूहन्ना रचित सुसमाचार का आरम्भ इन शब्दों के साथ होता है, “आदि में वचन था, और वचन परमेश्वर के साथ था, और वचन परमेश्वर था” (यूहन्ना 1:1); और फिर वह आगे कहता है, “और वचन देहधारी हुआ; और अनुग्रह और सच्चाई से परिपूर्ण हो कर हमारे बीच में डेरा किया, और हम ने उस की ऐसी महिमा देखी, जैसी पिता के एकलौते की महिमा” (यूहन्ना 1:14)। ये दो पद यह बिलकुल स्पष्ट कर देते हैं क्यों बाइबल को ‘जीवित वचन’ कहा जाता है; क्योंकि बाइबल के रूप में हमारे हाथों में प्रभु यीशु, स्वयं परमेश्वर लिखित या छपे हुए स्वरूप में विद्यमान है।

यह हमारे सामने विचार करने और ध्यान रखने के लिए एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण विषय ले कर आता है, ऐसा जिस पर अधिकांश लोग न तो विचार करते हैं और न ही जिसका ध्यान रखते हैं। अर्थात, बाइबल में किया गया कोई भी परिवर्तन, उसके साथ कोई भी दुर्व्यवहार, उसका कैसे भी दुरुपयोग का अभिप्राय यह सब प्रभु यीशु के साथ किया जाना है, परमेश्वर का अनादर करना, उसके साथ अनुचित व्यवहार करना है। इसलिए इसमें कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है कि परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में बहुत सख्ती से चेतावनी दी है कि उस में न तो कुछ जोड़ा जाए, और न ही उस में से कुछ घटाया जाए (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:2; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19); ऐसा करने के बहुत गंभीर और कठोर परिणाम होंगे। पौलुस ने भी अपने उदाहरण के द्वारा इस बात पर बल दिया (2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17; 4:2); तथा अन्य लोगों के लिए शिक्षा दी कि परमेश्वर के वचन को ठीक रीति से काम में लाएँ (2 तिमुथियुस 2:15), अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन की ठीक व्याख्या करें और सही समझाएँ।

यहीं से मसीही विश्वासियों का परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने की भूमिका का आरम्भ होता है – वह यह सुनिश्चित करे कि वचन के साथ न तो कोई छेड़खानी की जाए, न उससे अनुचित व्यवहार, और न उसका दुरुपयोग, या गलत व्याख्या हो। हम इसके बारे में आगे अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

Substance and Nature of God’s Word

Before understanding about the stewardship of God’s Word, we will do well to understand what God’s Word is, its role in the life of a Christian Believer, and why we need to be it’s good stewards. 

The Bible is no ordinary book; it is known as the Living Word - and as any living person, it communicates and interacts with those who honor it, believe in it, trust what is written in it and what it is saying to them. Neither is the Bible a record of the meditations, discussions, and deliberations of some people. The whole of the Bible is ‘God breathed’, i.e., written down by men under the inspiration and guidance of God’s Holy Spirit (2 Samuel 23:2; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). There were times when the authors did not understand what they were being inspired to write down, but God’s Spirit asked them to write it and leave it for later times (Isaiah 29:11; Daniel 8:17, 26; 12:4, 9). Along with other people of God (Colossians 1:26-27), the Apostle Paul was given the understanding for some of these mysteries, to reveal them to Christian Believers (Romans 11:25; 16:25; 1 Corinthians 2:7; 15:51; Ephesians 3:3-4, 9; 5:32; 6:19; Colossians 4:3); and to the Apostle John, the mystery of the end-times was revealed, as he recorded it in the book of Revelation in the Bible. Hence, the Bible can never be taken or seen as another book written by people of the world; it is unique, not just a collection of stories, incidences, and teachings written on the principle of ‘do good and be good’ to become acceptable to God.

The Gospel of John begins with these words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1); and then goes on to say, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). These two verses make it abundantly clear to us why the Bible is called The Living Word; because in the form of The Bible, we have the Lord Jesus, God Himself, in our hands in a printed or written form.

This brings up a very important consideration before us, something that most people neither ponder over, nor pay heed to, i.e., any alteration, mishandling, misuse of the Bible is tantamount to doing it to the Lord Jesus, and thereby maltreating and dishonoring God Himself. No wonder then that God has very strictly cautioned in His Word not to add anything to it, nor take anything away from it (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19); doing so has severe consequences. Paul too emphasizes this through his own example (2 Corinthians 2:17; 4:2), and exhorts others to be careful to rightly ‘divide’, i.e., interpret and expound God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15).

This is where the role of Christian Believers as stewards of God’s Word the Bible comes in - to ensure that it is not tampered with, it is not misused, misinterpreted, mishandled, and is always presented in its actual form to others. We will see more on this in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेखों में हमने परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होने के बारे में कुछ सामान्य बातों को देखा है; अर्थात, वह मसीही विश्वासी होने के बारे में जो परमेश्वर के लिए ज़िम्मेदारी और परिश्रम के साथ कार्य करता है, कि परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई जिम्मेदारियों (इफिसियों 2:10) को परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे दिए गए संसाधनों की सहायता से भली-भांति पूरा करे।

    उन कार्यों के अतिरिक्त जो परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए निर्धारित किए हैं, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर ने कुछ दिया है:

·        अपना वचन

·        अपना पवित्र आत्मा

·        अपनी कलीसिया की सदस्यता और साथ में उसकी संतानों की सहभागिता

·        अपने वरदान, जो पवित्र आत्मा सेवकाई के अनुसार देता है

    जैसा हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी उसका जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दिया है, भण्डारी है। इसलिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी उपरोक्त चारों का, जो परमेश्वर की प्रत्येक संतान को दिए गए हैं, भी भण्डारी है। अगले लेख से हम उपरोक्त चारों से सम्बन्धित भण्डारी होने के विभिन्न बातों पर बारी-बारी विचार करेंगे।

Practical Stewardship

    In the previous articles we have seen some general aspects of being a steward of God, i.e., a Christian Believer working diligently and responsibly for God, to fulfill his God given work or responsibilities (Ephesians 2:10), through utilizing the resources that God has entrusted him with.

    Many people assume that doing any ‘good’ thing in the name of God, e.g., helping others, preaching, doing good works, being involved in Church activities, being good doing good saying their prayers and reading God’s Word regularly, etc. is working for God, is being His good steward, and they will be duly acknowledged and rewarded for it. But that is not what the Bible teaches; that is not what God has shown in His Word as being His stewards. Numerous examples can be cited from God’s Word to show that this very common notion, so prevalent amongst the Christians is actually incorrect and vain. At judgment time, many will be shocked and left empty-handed because they had not done what God had kept for them to do. Instead, they had gone ahead and done so many things that they had assumed they need to do in God’s name; and many would not even have done that – like the servant to whom one talent had been given, they had simply kept it away, without doing anything for God (Matthew 25:24-25).

    Consider a few examples from God’s Word the Bible about the vanity of presumptive stewardship:

• Moses assumed that the Israelites would see him as their deliverer, and accept him. So, he took matters in his own hands and acted the way he felt was appropriate to impress upon the Israelites his claim to being their leader and deliverer (Acts 7:24-29), but had to flee for his life. It was only after God had first made him learn being a shepherd of dumb sheep for forty years in the wilderness as a nobody, that he was eventually sent by God to shepherd His people out of Egypt and patiently suffer them throughout the wilderness journey, till he brought them to the border of the Promised Land, Canaan.

• David assumed (Please read 1 Chronicles 13 and 15) that as King, he could shift the Ark of the Covenant in the manner that seemed right to him and that was also approved by others ruling with him in various responsible positions. But it only ended up in disaster, David became angry and afraid of God (1 Chronicles 13:10-13). It was later that he realized he had to do things the way ordained by God (1 Chronicles 15:2, 12-13), and when he did so, there was joy and God was glorified (1 Chronicles 15:25-28).

• David assumed he could build a Temple for God, and God’s prophet Nathan agreed with him (2 Samuel 7:1-3). But God did not agree, and overruled them; entrusting the building of the Temple to David’s son Solomon (2 Samuel 7:5, 12-13). David made all the preparations for the Temple under the guidance of God (1 Chronicles 28:11-19), but the actual building of the Temple was kept for Solomon to do (1 Chronicles 29:2, 19).

• The Lord Jesus towards the end of His Sermon on the Mount, gave a very solemn warning and serious words of caution in Matthew 7:21-23. He said that at the end, many will come to Him saying that in His name they had prophesied, cast out demons, and done miracles. But the Lord would reject them and send them away, since they had not done things in the will of God, but had done what they felt was right. Here, verse 22 begins with very sobering words “Many will say to Me in that day”; take note, in the Lord Jesus’s own words, it will be “many”, not some or a few. Even today, there are many living and working under this deception of assumed or contrived stewardship, which eventually will turn out to be vain and fruitless.

    Being a steward of God does not mean assuming things in the name of God and doing them any which way that suits one’s fancy. Stewardship means being obedient to God, and doing things for God in obedience to God. For being good stewards, we have to seek from God what He wants us to do, and then do that which God tells us to do, in the manner He wants us to do; instead of being presumptive and doing anything we feel is good enough for God.

    Besides the things or works that God has determined for every Christian Believer, to every Christian Believer God has also given:

• His Word

• His Holy Spirit

• His Church Membership along with Fellowship of His Children

• Some Gift of the Holy Spirit for ministry

    As we have seen in the earlier articles, every Christian Believer is God’s steward of whatever has been entrusted to him by God. Hence, all Christian Believers are also God’s stewards for the above four, given to every child of God. From the next article, we will start looking at the stewardship aspects related to each of the above, one after the other.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
