बपतिस्मा - उद्धार के लिए अनिवार्य? (6) - विचार कीजिए

ऐसा क्यों है कि बाइबल में हमें, प्रभु के किसी भी शिष्य के बपतिस्मा लेने का कोई विवरण तो दूर, उसका कहीं पर भी एक उल्लेख तक नहीं मिलता है? न तो हम प्रेरितों और शिष्यों को उद्धार के लिए, या स्वर्ग में प्रवेश करने के लिए, अपने स्वयं के बपतिस्मे की ओर संकेत करते हुए इसके विषय प्रचार और शिक्षा देते हुए देखते हैं; न ही हम कभी उन्हें अपने जीवन के उदाहरणों के माध्यम से इसके महत्व पर बल देते हुए पाते हैं; ऐसा क्यों? यदि बपतिस्मा वास्तव में इतना आवश्यक था, तो क्या उनके लिए यह भला और सहज नहीं होता कि वे इसके बारे में अपनी गवाही का उपयोग इसे सिखाने और इसकी आवश्यकता पर ज़ोर देने के लिए करते? किन्तु कहीं पर भी किसी भी शिष्य या प्रेरित ने ऐसा नहीं किया।
हम इसी विषय पर आगे के लेखों में भी देखेंगे, और बाइबल से संबंधित कुछ अन्य तथ्यों को देखेंगे जो उद्धार के लिए बपतिस्मे की अनिवार्यता की इस मन-गढ़न्त धारणा का खण्डन करते हैं। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य हैं, पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Baptism - Necessary for Salvation? (6) – Points to Ponder
We have seen in the previous articles that there is no Biblical support for baptism being capable of washing away anyone’s sins. We also considered the verses commonly used in support of the argument that baptism saves, washes away sins, and is necessary for salvation. On analyzing these verses while keeping in mind the basic principles of Biblical interpretation, we saw that these verses instead of supporting the necessity of baptism for salvation, actually show that salvation is by faith, by believing on the Lord Jesus, and not by baptism. We also considered the devious implication of accepting the argument of getting saved through baptism, that it is tantamount to saying that the priceless blood of Jesus shed on the Cross of Calvary for the washing away of sins, and waters of baptism are equivalent. Since the waters of baptism can also accomplish the same for which Lord Jesus had to come down from heaven, sacrifice His life, shed His blood. Therefore, the implication is that the Lord’s sacrifice and shedding of blood, and a person’s getting baptized are of similar status and value! An absolutely ludicrous and unacceptable thought; but one that is a natural outcome if one accepts as true the argument of washing away of sins and getting saved by baptism.
Accepting this argument also raises many questions, which clearly show that this argument either goes against, or does not harmonize with many other Biblical teachings. It will not be possible to mention or look up all the questions, but we will mention a few of them. For those readers, who still are not convinced, and still believe that baptism is a requirement for washing away of sins and getting saved, please try and answer these questions to yourselves, and see if you are satisfied by your own answers.
John 1:12-13 states that “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” As per this portion of God’s Word, everyone who “believes in His name” (no mention of baptism, no suggestion either) becomes a child of God simply by the act of receiving Him or believing in His name. Now, if for some reason, this child of God by faith, is unable to get baptized, will he be allowed to enter heaven or not? If not, then it makes no sense in believing in or receiving the Lord; if yes, then entering heaven is a function of faith, not baptism. So, which is it?
In John 8:31-32 “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."” Why did the Lord Jesus not teach and emphasize about baptism instead of asking those who believed on Him to abide in His Word, which would then set them free? If baptism was so important, then did the Lord do wrong in not mentioning it to them, and only asked them to abide in His Word, whereas they would later be judged worthy only on the basis of their baptismal status? Was the Lord a charlatan and hypocrite to so shabbily treat those who claimed faith in Him? This shows how poorly a misplaced stand on baptism reflects on the persona of the Lord and thereby severely denigrates the one who knew no sin and in whom was no guile?
John 4:2 “though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples” – in light of the claimed importance of baptism, why did the Lord Jesus not baptize Himself, leaving it for His disciples to do so? Nor did He ever question them whether or not they had baptized those who believed, when He sent them on outreach ministries? Moreover, those who had been baptized, either by John the Baptist, or the disciples of the Lord Jesus, have never been called “saved” or “the people of the Lord Jesus” anywhere in New Testament – whereas doing this would have been appropriate and helpful in ministry. Even later, at the end of His earthly ministry, in His Great Commission to His disciples (Matthew 28:18-20), the Lord asked that only those who first became His disciples should be baptized. Why did He not tell the disciples baptize everyone so that at the least they are saved, and then try to make them His disciples? Why this neglect of such an important and decisive part of the ministry, and that too by the Lord Himself?
Why is it that in the Bible we do not find even a mention, let alone any details of any of the Lord’s disciples being baptized? Neither do we find the apostles and disciples alluding to their own baptism for salvation, or for entering heaven; nor do we ever find them emphasizing on its importance through examples of their lives? If baptism was indeed so necessary, wouldn’t it have been good for them to use their own testimony regarding it to teach and emphasize its necessity?
We will continue on this topic in the articles ahead, and consider some other Biblical facts that disprove this contrived necessity of baptism for salvation. If you are a Christian Believer, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a Born-Again disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. Whoever may be the preacher or teacher, but you should always, like the Berean Believers, first cross-check and test all teachings that you receive, from the Word of God. Only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
