1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 "तुम बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो!" को समझना
पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा चाहता है कि सभी मसीही विश्वासी आत्मिक वरदानों के बारे में सही समझ सीखें और रखें। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि परमेश्वर द्वारा उसके लिए निर्धारित सेवकाई के अनुसार प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उपयुक्त आत्मिक वरदान दिए जाते हैं। परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में न तो कोई सेवकाई छोटी अथवा बड़ी है, और न ही कोई आत्मिक वरदान बड़ा या प्रमुख, अथवा, छोटा या गौण है। इस प्रकार की भिन्नता या भेदभाव करना मनुष्य की प्रवृत्ति एवं भावना है, परमेश्वर की नहीं। यहाँ पर 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 के आधार पर वरदानों को बड़ा या छोटा कहने से पहले, इस पद को उसके संदर्भ में सही समझना आवश्यक है।
इससे पहले के 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:12-27 में पौलुस ने शरीर को रूपक के समान प्रयोग करते हुए यह निष्कर्ष दिया कि जिस प्रकार देह के सभी अंग देह के लिए समान महत्व के और उसकी कार्य-क्षमता तथा कुशलता के लिए अपने-अपने स्थान पर आवश्यक हैं, कोई अंग कम अथवा अधिक महत्वपूर्ण, या बड़ा अथवा छोटा नहीं है, उसी प्रकार मण्डली में भी सभी मसीही विश्वासी, अपने भिन्न-भिन्न वरदानों और कार्यों के साथ, प्रभु की मण्डली रूपी देह के लिए समान महत्व रखते हैं, न तो कोई मसीही विश्वासी, न उसकी सेवकाई, न उसके वरदान, औरों की तुलना में बड़े अथवा छोटे, या कम अथवा अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है, सभी समान हैं। फिर इसके बाद पद 28 में पौलुस उस मण्डली रूपी एक देह में विभिन्न जिम्मेदारियों और कार्यों का उल्लेख करता है, और उन्हें क्रमवार बताते हुए उनकी क्रम-संख्या भी बताता है। फिर पद 29-30 में पौलुस पूछे गए प्रश्नों के द्वारा यह दिखाता है कि हर किसी को एक ही, या सारी ज़िम्मेदारियाँ नहीं दी गई हैं; सभी को अपनी-अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी निभानी है। और तब पद 31 में उसके द्वारा “बड़े से बड़े वरदान” वाक्यांश का प्रयोग किया गया है। इस पद को अन्य पदों के साथ, उसके संदर्भ में देखने से यह प्रकट हो जाता है कि “बड़े से बड़े” से अभिप्राय अधिक से अधिक ज़िम्मेदारी वाले वरदान के लिए है। अर्थात पौलुस में होकर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासियों को यह बता रहा है कि मसीही मण्डली में अधिक से अधिक ज़िम्मेदारी उठाने वाले, यानि कि प्रभु के लिए अधिक से अधिक उपयोग में आने वाले व्यक्ति होने की धुन में रहो या लालसा रखो। यदि इसे वरदानों और सेवकाइयों में बड़े-छोटे के लिए समझा जाए तो फिर पद 12-27 में दी गई चर्चा व्यर्थ है; फिर तो प्रभु की मण्डली रूपी देह में सभी समान महत्व के नहीं हैं, और पवित्र आत्मा ने बड़े या छोटे आत्मिक वरदान देने के द्वारा भेद-भाव किया है। और यह बात परमेश्वर के स्वरूप और वचन की शिक्षाओं के साथ बिल्कुल मेल नहीं खाती है, इसलिए स्वीकार्य भी नहीं है। वरन, यदि वरदानों और सेवाकाइयों के बड़े या छोटे होने की व्याख्या को स्वीकार कर लिया जाए, तो यह फिर से उसी के समान स्थिति उत्पन्न कर देती है जिसे हम “पवित्र आत्मा का बप्तिस्मा” के सन्दर्भ में पहले देख चुके हैं - कलीसिया में ‘जिनके पास है’ और ‘जिनके पास नहीं है’ के आधार पर विभाजन - जो कि बाइबल के बाहर की गलत शिक्षाओं और सिद्धांतों का परिणाम है।
दूसरी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात जो इस अध्याय के 7 पद में, आत्मिक वरदानों के उल्लेख से भी पहले कही गई है, किन्तु जिस पर अधिकांशतः लोग ध्यान नहीं देते हैं, वह है, “किन्तु सब के लाभ पहुंचाने के लिये हर एक को आत्मा का प्रकाश दिया जाता है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7)। हम इससे पहले परमेश्वर की कार्यविधि को समझते हुए, यह देख चुके हैं कि हमारा परमेश्वर पिता हमेशा सभी की भलाई के लिए ही कार्य करता है, और जो आशीषें वह देता है, वह किसी व्यक्ति के अपने निज लाभ और प्रयोग के लिए ही नहीं होती हैं, वरन, उस व्यक्ति में होकर सभी के लाभ और उन्नति के लिए होती हैं। यही बात यहाँ इस 7 पद में कही गई है। पवित्र आत्मा स्वयं इस बात को पहले ही लिखवा दे रहा है कि हर एक को जो भी आत्मिक वरदान पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से दिया गया है, वह सभी के लाभ के लिए है। इसकी पुष्टि एक बार फिर से 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:12 “इसलिये तुम भी जब आत्मिक वरदानों की धुन में हो, तो ऐसा प्रयत्न करो, कि तुम्हारे वरदानों की उन्नति से कलीसिया की उन्नति हो” में हो जाती है। यद्यपि यह बात अन्य-भाषा बोलने के संदर्भ में कही गई है, किन्तु फिर भी यहाँ पर यह बलपूर्वक दोहराया गया है कि सभी के आत्मिक वरदानों के द्वारा कलीसिया ही की उन्नति होनी चाहिए; और 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:2-5 पद तथा इस अध्याय के अन्य पद भी यह स्पष्ट कर देते हैं कि अन्य भाषा बोलना भी कलीसिया की उन्नति के लिए ही है, किसी भी व्यक्ति के अपने निज प्रयोग अथवा लाभ के लिए नहीं। यद्यपि यह हमारे वर्तमान विषय से बाहर की चर्चा है, किन्तु इस संदर्भ में यह कहना बहुत आवश्यक है कि बाइबल में जिसे “अन्य भाषा” कहा गया है वह पृथ्वी की ही, और जानी पहचानी भाषाएं हैं, जिनके नाम हैं, जो विभिन्न भौगोलिक क्षेत्रों में मनुष्यों द्वारा बोली जाती हैं, और जिनके अनुवाद किसी अन्य क्षेत्र की भाषा में किए जा सकते हैं। पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से गलत शिक्षाएं फैलाने वालों की इस गलत शिक्षा का कि अन्य भाषाएं अलौकिक, पृथ्वी के बाहर की भाषा है, बाइबल में कोई समर्थन नहीं है। 1 कुरिन्थियों 14 अध्याय ही ध्यान से और प्रार्थना पूर्वक पढ़ लीजिए, वास्तविकता स्वतः ही प्रकट हो जाएगी।
आत्मिक वरदानों से संबंधित तीसरी महत्वपूर्ण बात हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:11 पद में देखते हैं - हर एक आत्मिक वरदान, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रदान करता है, और अपनी इच्छा यानि उस व्यक्ति की निर्धारित सेवकाई के अनुसार प्रदान करता है। किसे कौन सा आत्मिक वरदान दिया जाना है, यह व्यक्ति की लालसा या उसके कहे अथवा मांगे जाने के अनुसार नहीं है। सभी को उसे उचित एवं उपयुक्त रीति से प्रयोग करना है, जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दिया है, उसके लिए रखा है। हम ऊपर देख चुके हैं कि “बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो” (पद 31) का अर्थ मण्डली में अधिक से अधिक ज़िम्मेदारी निभाने के लिए है, अपने वरदान के स्थान पर कोई अन्य वरदान प्राप्त करने के लिए नहीं है। हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर ने जिसके लिए जो ज़िम्मेदारी निर्धारित की है, उसे वो व्यक्ति ही निभा सकता है, कोई अन्य नहीं। परमेश्वर अपने निर्णय और बातें किसी के कहे के अनुसार बदलता नहीं है। उसके निर्णय अनन्तकाल के परिप्रेक्ष्य में लिए गए निर्णय हैं, अल्प-कालीन या मनुष्य की सोच और इच्छा के अनुसार लिए गए नहीं। मसीही विश्वासी की आशीष उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में है, न कि परमेश्वर को अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार कार्य करने के लिए बाध्य करने के प्रयासों में।
यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो आपको अपने मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई में पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित गलत शिक्षाओं से बच कर रहने के लिए इन उपरोक्त बातों का ध्यान रखना बहुत आवश्यक है। न तो कोई सेवकाई और न कोई आत्मिक वरदान परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में बड़ा अथवा छोटा है। हर वरदान परमेश्वर की ओर से, सभी की भलाई के लिए दिया गया है, किसी के व्यक्तिगत उपयोग के लिए नहीं। इस संदर्भ में अन्य भाषा बोलना भी कलीसिया की भलाई और उपयोग के लिए ही है, जैसा 1 कुरिन्थियों 14 अध्याय के अध्ययन से स्पष्ट है, न कि किसी व्यक्ति के द्वारा मुँह से विचित्र ध्वनियाँ निकालकर और विचित्र हाव-भाव दिखाने के द्वारा लोगों पर यह प्रभाव जमाने के लिए कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा का कोई विशेष अनुग्रह या सामर्थ्य मिली हुई है। और किसे क्या देना है, हर आत्मिक वरदान परमेश्वर ही निर्धारित करता है, यह मनुष्य की इच्छा के अनुसार निर्धारित नहीं होता है। किसी को भी 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 की गलत व्याख्या के आधार पर वचन की इन सच्चाइयों को बदलने का प्रयास नहीं करना चाहिए।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Understanding “But earnestly desire the best gifts” (1 Corinthians 12:31)
In the previous article we had seen that God the Holy Spirit wants that all Christian Believers should learn and have a correct understanding about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We had also seen that for help in carrying out the God assigned works and ministry, every Believer is given gifts appropriate to the need. In God’s eyes, no ministry is small or big, nor of greater or lesser importance; and no spiritual gift is of greater or lesser importance. Thinking in terms of such differentiation is man’s tendency, not God’s. Here, before anyone calls the gifts greater or lesser on the basis of 1 Corinthians 12:31 - a verse that is often misused to support this concept, it is essential to understand the verse properly and in its context.
Consider the preceding verses, in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 Paul through using the human body as a metaphor has concluded that in the body all the parts are of equal importance, and their utility, presence, and functioning is essential in the location they have been placed. Similarly, in the Church - the body of Christ, every Christian Believer, with their different gifts and ministries, are equally important in their respective positions and for works assigned to them. No Christian Believer, and no one’s ministry or gift is greater or lesser in comparison to the others, and their works are also of equal importance, no work is more or less important. Then after this, in verse 28 Paul mentions the various responsibilities, ministries, and works in that one body, i.e., the Church of the Lord Jesus (we will consider them in greater details subsequently). After this, in verses 29-30, Paul through his rhetorical questions emphasizes that everybody has not been given the same responsibility, nor has anyone been given all the responsibilities; everyone has to fulfill their responsibility. Then in verse 31 he uses the phrase “the best gifts”. By looking at this verse along with and in context of the other verses, it becomes apparent the implication of “the best gifts” is gifts with the most responsibilities. In other words, through Paul, the Holy Spirit is telling the Christian Believers that desire to be the ones who take the most responsibilities in the Church - the body of the Lord, i.e., earnestly desire to be the ones in the Church who serve the most.
If this verse is taken to understand that it is indicating ministries or gifts being greater or lesser, then Paul’s discussion of verse 12-27 is vain; since then in the body of the Lord - His Church, everybody does not have the same importance, and God the Holy Spirit has differentiated between Believers by giving greater or smaller gifts. And this is not at all consistent with the teachings of Word of God, therefore is unacceptable. Rather, if this interpretation of gifts and ministries being of greater and lesser importance is accepted, then it again creates a similar situation to what we have seen earlier regarding the wrong teachings about “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” creates - of causing divisions of the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ in the Church - a result of unBiblical, wrong teachings and doctrines.
A second and very important things has been stated in verse 7 of this chapter, prior to mentioning the spiritual gifts, over which most people do not usually pay any attention. This is, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7). Earlier, while looking at and understanding how God works, we have seen that our Father God works for the benefit of everyone, and the blessings He gives are not for any person’s personal use and benefit, but for the benefit and growth of everyone through that person. This same thing is stated here in verse 7. The Holy Spirit is getting it written beforehand that whatever spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit, they are all for the benefit and growth of everyone in the Church. This is then repeated and re-affirmed in 1 Corinthians 14:12 “Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.” Although this statement has been made in context of speaking in ‘tongues’ i.e., other languages, yet it is emphatically repeated here that the Church should benefit and grow through the use of spiritual gifts. Also, 1 Corinthians 12:2-5 make it clear that speaking in ‘tongues’, i.e., other earthly languages should be for the benefit of the Church; it is not meant for anyone’s personal use or benefit. Although it is not a part of our current discussion, but in context of what is being said here, it is very important to say and understand that what the Bible mentions as ‘tongues’, are known, spoken, and understood languages of this world; languages that have their own names and are spoken by people living in various geographical areas of this world, and which can be translated from one to another. Those who preach, teach and spread wrong doctrines and false teachings in the name of, and about the Holy Spirit say and teach that these are extra-terrestrial languages, but there is no support for this from the Bible. Read carefully and prayerfully 1 Corinthians 14 chapter, and the truth about this will readily become apparent.
The third important thing about spiritual gifts we see in 1 Corinthians12:11 - that every spiritual gift is given by the Holy Spirit, and it is He who determines the gift to be given; which is in accordance with the person’s ministry. Which spiritual gift is to be given to whom is not according to the desire, demand, or asking of the person. Whatever God has decided and provided to a person, he has to use it appropriately and diligently. We have seen above that the meaning of the phrase “But earnestly desire the best gifts” (1 Corinthians 12:31) is to be desirous of doing the best possible in the Church, and not adding to, or replacing one’s gift with another. We have also seen in earlier articles that the work and ministry God has assigned to a person, it is only for that person to carry out, not anyone else. God does not change His decisions and working on anyone’s say so. He has taken His decisions with eternity in perspective, they are not short-term decisions or taken as by the limited human understanding and desires. The blessings of a Christian Believer are in his obeying God; not in trying to change God according to one’s likes and desires.
If you are a Christian Believer, then it is very necessary that to stay safe from the wrong teachings about the Holy Spirit, you keep the above-mentioned facts in mind. No ministry and no spiritual gift is greater or smaller, more important or less important in God’s eyes. Every ministry and gift has been given by God, for the benefit and growth of others and of the Church through the recipient of the gift and ministry; they are not for anyone’s personal use and benefit. In this context, as becomes clear from the study of 1 Corinthians 14, the gift of speaking in ‘tongues’, i.e., in other known and named earthly languages, is also for the benefit and growth of the Church. No one should believe and get carried away by the false notion and teaching that the making of strange unintelligible noises and carrying out odd bodily actions is proof of the power and actions of the Holy Spirit specially bestowed upon that person - there is no Biblical proof or support of this false claim. Every spiritual gift, who is to receive which one, is decided by God; and He does not do it according to any person’s likes and desires. No one should try to alter the truths of God’s Word regarding 1 Corinthians 12:31 on the basis of their wrong out-of-context interpretations of this verse and contrived false teachings.
If you are a Christian Believer, then without getting waylaid and distracted by what people say and their own concepts, carry on faithfully in your work and ministry assigned to you by God. In God’s eyes you, your work, and ministry are of equal importance to anyone else. Also, never forget that there are many others who are doing many things in the Lord’s name, but on their own. Such people may have a high stature and good commendation in the eyes of the world, and the people of the world as well as they themselves may think of themselves to be very important and great. But eventually, at the time of judgment, they will get to hear from the Lord, “'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” (Matthew 7:23); then what will their condition be like? Therefore, do not fall for and go by the opinions and evaluations of men. Whatever God has given to you, whatever He has asked you to do, do it diligently, properly, and faithfully; and the Lord will never ever let you be lesser than anyone else in any manner.
If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, a child of God, entitled to a place in heaven, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start learning, understanding, and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.
If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
