हाथ रखना – 6
वर्तमान में हम इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई छः में से चौथी आरम्भिक बात, “हाथ रखना” पर अध्ययन कर रहे हैं। मसीही विश्वासियों, विशेषकर कुछ समुदाय और डिनॉमिनेशन के विश्वासियों में एक सामान्य धारणा है कि बाइबल के संदर्भ में, वाक्यांश “हाथ रखना” का अभिप्राय होता है बपतिस्मा लेने वालों के सिरों पर कलीसिया या मण्डली के अगुवों और प्राचीनों के द्वारा हाथ रखना और प्रार्थना करना; और यह, एक तरह से बपतिस्मे की प्रक्रिया का सम्पूर्ण होना होता है। हम बाइबल में वाक्यांश “हाथ रखना” के उपयोग किए जाने को क्रमवार उत्पत्ति की पुस्तक से आरम्भ कर के अब नए नियम तक देखते चले आ रहे हैं। हमने देखा है कि इस वाक्यांश को बाइबल में विभिन्न अर्थों एवं अभिप्रायों के साथ उपयोग किया गया है; इसे सर्वाधिक, दोनों पुराने तथा नए नियमों में, किसी पर हानि पहुँचाने के लिए हाथ डालने या उसे पकड़ने के अभिप्राय से उपयोग किया गया है। आज हम “हाथ रखने” के अन्य अर्थों को देखना ज़ारी रखेंगे, और यह समझना आरम्भ करेंगे कि किस प्रकार से कुछ समुदायों और डिनॉमिनेशनों के द्वारा इस वाक्यांश का दुरुपयोग कर के, लोगों में बहुत असमंजस डाला गया है और लोगों को भरमा कर एक गलत सिद्धान्त सिखाया जा रहा है।
कुछ समुदाय और डिनॉमिनेशन बहुत जोर देकर यह सिखाते हैं कि मसीही विश्वासियों को पवित्र आत्मा “हाथ रखने” के द्वारा प्राप्त होता है, और वे कुछ पदों को उनके सन्दर्भ से बाहर लेकर अपनी बात को प्रमाणित करने का प्रयास करते हैं, किन्तु इस से वे अपनी सैद्धान्तिक शिक्षा और बाइबल की शिक्षा के मध्य स्वतः ही विरोधाभास उत्पन्न कर देते हैं।
इस से पहले की हम इस तथाकथित अर्थ पर विचार करें, कि मसीही विश्वासियों को हाथ रखने के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होता है, हम इस वाक्यांश के एक अन्य उपयोग के उदाहरण को देख लेते हैं। यह उदाहरण हमें प्रकाशितवाक्य 1:17 में मिलता है, जहाँ लिखा है “जब मैं ने उसे देखा, तो उसके पैरों पर मुर्दा सा गिर पड़ा और उसने मुझ पर अपना दाहिना हाथ रख कर यह कहा, कि मत डर; मैं प्रथम और अन्तिम और जीवता हूं।” यहाँ पर प्रेरित यूहन्ना उस के द्वार प्रभु यीशु को उसके महिमित स्वर्गीय रूप में देखने की बात, और उस पर उस दर्शन के प्रभाव – “तो उसके पैरों पर मुर्दा सा गिर पड़ा” को लिख रहा है। तब प्रभु यीशु ने उसे आश्वस्त किया और शान्ति दी, यह कहा कि “मत डर; मैं प्रथम और अन्तिम और जीवता हूं।” यहाँ पर हम इस वाक्यांश, “हाथ रखने” का एक और अर्थ भी देखते हैं – किसी को उसकी भय की स्थिति में शान्ति और आश्वासन देना।
अब “हाथ रखने” के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करने के बारे में विचार करना आरम्भ करते हैं। यह बात कुछ समुदायों और डिनॉमिनेशनों के द्वारा प्रेरितों 8:17; 9:17; 19:6 के आधार पर सिखाई जाती है। इन तीनों पदों में, हम देखते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा उन लोगों को दिया गया जिन पर परमेश्वर के किसी जन ने अपने हाथ रखे। लेकिन जब हम इन पदों का विश्लेषण उन के संदर्भ और उस समय जो किया जा रहा था, उसके दृष्टिकोण से देखते हैं, तब यह प्रकट हो जाता है कि पवित्र आत्मा शारीरिक रीति से किसी पर हाथ रखने के कारण नहीं दिया गया, परन्तु “हाथ रखने” के उस समय के अभिप्राय के कारण दिया गया।
इस से पहले के एक लेख में, जो इस हाथ रखने के विषय का तीसरा लेख था, और 8 जून को प्रकाशित हुआ था, हम ने बाइबल के पुराने तथा नए नियम के उदाहरणों से देखा था कि “हाथ रखने” के अर्थों में से एक है परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित किसी विशेष उद्देश्य, कार्य, अथवा सेवकाई के लिए किसी को नियुक्त करना या विधिवत निर्धारित करना। यह प्रकट है कि यह नियुक्त करना या विधिवत निर्धारित करना, अगुवों या प्राचीनों के द्वारा व्यक्ति को शारीरिक रीति से छू लेने या उस पर हाथ रख देने से नहीं होता है; वे उस कार्य के लिए प्रार्थना कर के परमेश्वर के हाथों और सुरक्षा में सौंपे जाने के बाद भी सकुशल जा सकते थे। हाथ रखना सहभागिता में घनिष्ठता को दिखाने का, तथा उस व्यक्ति को आश्वस्त करने का तरीका है कि जिस सेवकाई के लिए वह नियुक्त किया गया है, उसके लिए कलीसिया अनुमोदन करती है, उसके साथ सहमत है, सहभागी है। हमने आश्वस्त करने के इस पक्ष को ऊपर प्रकाशितवाक्य 1:17 के उदाहरण से देखा है। सहभागी होने के पक्ष को समझने के लिए, एक अन्य पद पर ध्यान कीजिए, गलतियों 2:9 “और जब उन्होंने उस अनुग्रह को जो मुझे मिला था जान लिया, तो याकूब, और कैफा, और यूहन्ना ने जो कलीसिया के खम्भे समझे जाते थे, मुझ को और बरनबास को दाहिना हाथ देकर संग कर लिया, कि हम अन्यजातियों के पास जाएं, और वे खतना किए हुओं के पास।” यद्यपि यहाँ पर वाक्यांश “हाथ रखना” नहीं लिखा गया है, लेकिन यह अभिप्राय “मुझ को और बरनबास को दाहिना हाथ देकर संग कर लिया” से प्रकट है। याकूब, कैफा, और यूहन्ना ने पौलुस और बरनबास की ओर हाथ बढ़ाने के द्वारा उन पर यह व्यक्त किया कि वे उन के साथ खड़े हैं, उनकी सेवकाई को स्वीकार करते हैं और उस की पुष्टि करते हैं, और प्रभु की सेवकाई में उन के साथ एक मन हैं। इस प्रकार, हाथ बढ़ाना या हाथ देना व्यक्ति को संगति या सहभागिता में स्वीकार करने, उस की सेवकाई को स्वीकार करने को दिखाने का तरीका है।
इसलिए हम समझ सकते हैं कि जब अगुवे और प्राचीन प्रार्थना करने और “हाथ रखने” के द्वारा किसी विशेष उद्देश्य, कार्य, अथवा सेवकाई के लिए किसी को नियुक्त करते या विधिवत निर्धारित करते थे, तब वे उस व्यक्ति को इस आश्वासन के साथ उस की सेवकाई पर भेजते थे कि वे उन के साथ खड़े हैं, उनकी कुशल बने रहने की कामना करते हैं, और उन्हें उन की उस सेवकाई में सफल होता देखना चाहते हैं जिस के लिए वे उन्हें भेज रहे हैं। यह उन सेवकाई पर निकलने वालों को आश्वस्त करता था कि जिस प्रकार से प्रभु यीशु ने उन्हें अपना जन स्वीकार कर लिया है, उसी प्रकार से अगुवों और प्राचीनों ने भी कलीसिया या मण्डली की ओर से उन्हें कलीसिया का, प्रभु की देह का एक भाग स्वीकार कर लिया है; वे स्वीकार करते हैं कि उस विशेष उद्देश्य, कार्य, अथवा सेवकाई के लिए नियुक्त किया गया या विधिवत निर्धारित किया गया वह व्यक्ति परमेश्वर द्वारा उस सेवकाई के लिए उपयोग किए जाने के लिए उचित और उपयुक्त माना गया है।
अगले लेख में हम इस समझ को प्रेरितों के काम के उन तीन पदों पर लागू करेंगे, जिनके दुरुपयोग के द्वारा यह दावा किया जाता है कि पवित्र आत्मा हाथ रखने दिया जाता है।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Laying on of Hands - 6
We are presently studying the fourth of the six elementary principles stated in Hebrews 6:1-2, i.e., “laying on of hands.” There is a common understanding, especially amongst the members of some sects and denominations of the Christian Believers, that from the Biblical context, the term “laying on of hands” essentially means laying of hands by the elders of the Church or Assembly on the heads of those who have taken baptism, and is in a way, the completion of the baptism process. We have serially followed through the use of the phrase “laying on of hands” in the Bible, from Genesis onwards to the New Testament. We have seen that this phrase has been used throughout the Bible with various meaning; the most common use, both in the Old as well as the New Testament, being in the sense of taking hold of, or apprehending someone to cause him some kind of harm. Today we will continue with looking at Biblical examples of “laying on of hands” and begin considering how this term has been misused to generate a lot of confusion and mislead people into a false doctrine by some sects and denominations.
Some sects and denominations, very emphatically teach and preach that the Christian Believers receive the Holy Spirit through “laying on of hands” and they use some Bible verses, out of their context, to try to prove their point, but end up bringing a contradiction between their doctrine and what God’s Word teaches.
Before we go into considering this alleged meaning, i.e., of the Christian Believers receiving the Holy Spirit by laying on of hands, let us look at an instance one other use of this phrase. It is written in Revelation 1:17 “And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.” Here the Apostle John is writing about his seeing the Lord Jesus in His glorious heavenly majesty and form, and the effect it had on him – “I fell at His feet as dead.” The Lord Jesus then comforted and reassured John by laying His right hand on John and saying to him “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.” Here we see another meaning, or use of laying on of hands – to comfort and reassure someone in his state of fear.
Now, coming to considering receiving the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands. This is taught by some sects and denominations based on Acts 8:17; 9:17; 19:6. In these three verses we see that the Holy Spirit was given to those persons on whom a man of God laid his hand. But when we analyze these verses in their context and see what was being done, then it becomes apparent that the Holy Spirit was not given because of the physical act of laying of hand, but because of what the laying of hand signified or indicated for that instance.
In an earlier article, the third on this topic of laying hands, and published on 8th June, we had seen from Biblical examples, from the Old as well as the New Testaments, that one of the meanings of “laying on of hands” was to ordain or commission someone to carry out their God given work or ministry. It is evident that this ordination or commissioning does not happen because of the physical act of the leaders or elders touching or placing their hands on the person(s) going for the work or ministry; they could just as well have been sent out simply by praying and committing them into God’s care and safety. The placing of hands is a way of conveying an intimacy of fellowship with the person as well as assuring them of their support for the ministry they were being sent out. This aspect of reassurance we have seen from the example of Revelation 1:17 given above. To understand the aspect of support, consider another verse, Galatians 2:9 “and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.” Although the phrase “laying on of hands” is not written here, but the sense is conveyed through use of the phrase “they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship.” Implying that by extending hands towards Paul and Barnabas, James, Cephas, and John were assuring them of standing by them, of accepting and affirming their ministry, of being one-minded with them in the service of the Lord. So, giving or extending a hand of fellowship is meant to convey acceptance into the fellowship, and acceptance of the person’s ministry.
Therefore, we can understand that when the leaders and elders were ordaining or commissioning someone through praying and “laying on of hands,” they were commissioning or sending the person for their ministry with the assurance that they too are standing with them, are concerned about their welfare, and want to see them succeed in the ministry they are sending him out for. It was an assurance to the person being sent of the congregation of Believers standing with him; and an acknowledgement that just as the Lord Jesus has accepted him as one of His, similarly the leaders and the elders on behalf of the Church of the Lord are also accepting him as a part of the body or Church of the Lord. The person being ordained and commissioned by the leaders and elders is accepted as having been considered worthy by God to be used for God’s ministry.
In the next article we will apply this understanding of “laying on of hands” to the three verses from Acts that are misused to claim that the Holy Spirit is received by the laying on of hands.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
