प्रभु की मेज़ - योग्य रीति से भाग लेना
पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:27 से देखा था कि प्रभु की मेज़ में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेने का अर्थ है उसमें प्रभु द्वारा फसह के समय अपने शिष्यों के साथ मेज़ की स्थापना करते समय दिए गए तरीके से भिन्न प्रकार से भाग लेना। हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर हमेशा ही उसके द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों और आज्ञाओं के निर्वाह के लिए बहुत अनिवार्य रहा है, विशेषकर उसके आदर और आराधना से संबंधित बातों के प्रति। परमेश्वर ने कभी भी उसके द्वारा दी गई आज्ञाओं और निर्देशों में किसी के भी द्वारा कोई परिवर्तन या ‘सुधार’ या किसी की व्यक्तिगत व्याख्या के अनुसार निर्वाह को अनुमति नहीं दी है, ऐसा करना स्वीकार नहीं किया है। यही बात प्रभु भोज के लिए भी लागू होती है। प्रभु यीशु ने प्रभु भोज की स्थापना अपने प्रतिबद्ध शिष्यों के लिए की थी, जो उसके साथ परीक्षाओं में भी लगातार बने रहे (लूका 22:28)। प्रभु ने मेज़ में भाग लेने के बारे में केवल उन्हें ही निर्देश दिए थे; यहूदा इस्करियोती ने प्रभु द्वारा स्थापित मेज़ में भाग नहीं लिया था। इससे हम यह सीख सकते हैं कि प्रभु भोज केवल परमेश्वर के समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध लोगों के लिए ही है, उनके लिए जो उसके लिए खड़े होने के लिए तैयार हैं; न कि उनके लिए जो किसी रीति अथवा अनुष्ठान के निर्वाह के द्वारा, या किसी स्वार्थ के अंतर्गत प्रभु के साथ संबंधित और जुड़े हुए रहते हैं।
हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि फसह मनाने के लिए अपने निज परिवारों के पास जाने के स्थान पर, प्रभु के साथ बने रहने और उसके निर्देशों के अनुसार फसह की तैयारी करने और भाग लेने के द्वारा उन शिष्यों ने प्रभु यीशु के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता और प्रतिबद्धता के एक स्तर को दिखाया; यह ऐसी बात है जो वर्तमान में प्रभु भोज में रीति के समान भाग लेने वालों में बहुत ही कम देखने को मिलती है। लेकिन इसका यह अर्थ भी नहीं है कि वे शिष्य बिल्कुल निष्पाप और आलोचना से परे थे, फसह के भोज के लिए बैठे होने के बावजूद, उनमें विवाद चल रहा था कि उनमें से बड़ा कौन है (लूका 22:24-27)। शायद इसीलिए प्रभु यीशु ने भोजन से उठकर शिष्यों के पाँव धोए थे, जैसा कि यूहन्ना 13:4-17 में लिखा है; यहूदा इस्करियोती के भी, क्योंकि वह फसह के भोज में तो सम्मिलित था, किन्तु रोटी का टुकड़ा लेते ही बाहर चला गया था (यूहन्ना 13:30)। उसके बाहर चले जाने के बाद ही प्रभु यीशु ने प्रभु भोज की स्थापना की थी, जिसे हम पहले देख चुके हैं। प्रभु को यह भी पता था कि थोड़े ही समय में उसके शिष्य क्या करने वाले हैं। अपने सभी दावों के विपरीत, वे न तो उसके साथ प्रार्थना करने के लिए जागेंगे, और न ही जब लोग उसे पकड़ने आएंगे, तब उसके साथ खड़े रहेंगे, वरन उसे अकेला छोड़ कर भाग खड़े होंगे। लेकिन प्रभु को यह भी पता था कि वे उसे हमेशा के लिए नहीं त्याग देंगे, उसकी मृत्यु के बाद भी वापस अपने परिवारों और व्यवसाय को नहीं लौटेंगे। इसके बाद वे पश्चातापी होंगे, और प्रभु के पुनरुत्थान के बाद, एक बार जब उनकी प्रतिबद्धता फिर से नई हो जाएगी, ये ही लोग सारे संसार में जाकर हर कीमत पर सुसमाचार को सुनाएंगे। उसे पता था कि उनके पश्चाताप और प्रतिबद्धता का आने वाले दिनों में क्या परिणाम होगा।
इसलिए यह मानना कि केवल बिल्कुल सिद्ध और निष्पाप लोग ही प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग ले सकते हैं, नासमझी है, तथ्यों की गलत व्याख्या है। प्रभु द्वारा अपने चूक और गलतियाँ करने वाले शिष्यों के लिए मेज़ को स्थापित करना, इस धारणा का समर्थन नहीं करता है। प्रभु को पता है कि कोई भी मनुष्य कभी निष्पाप और सिद्ध नहीं हो सकता है; सभी को, उसके प्रतिबद्ध शिष्यों को भी पश्चाताप करने और क्षमा माँगने की आवश्यकता होगी (1 यूहन्ना 1:7-10)। इसलिए प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वालों को ऐसे लोग होना चाहिए जो अपने पापों और कमियों को मानने के लिए, उनके लिए क्षमा माँगने के लिए तैयार हों; वे प्रभु के साथ बने रहने और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में चलने वाले होने चाहिएं, अपनी असिद्धता, अपूर्णता के बावजूद भी। प्रभु को जो बात कतई स्वीकार्य नहीं है, वह है घमण्ड, स्व-धर्मी रवैया, और गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता। हम इसके बारे में तथा प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के बारे में कुछ और देखेंगे और सीखेंगे, अगले कुछ लेखों में इससे आगे के पदों का अध्ययन करते हुए।
प्रभु के मेज़ में योग्य रीति से भाग लेने से संबंधित कुछ अन्य बातों को - प्रभु भोज में प्रभु के जीवन और उद्देश्य को स्मरण करते हुए भाग लेना, उसकी मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान का प्रचार करना और उसके गवाह होना, तथा रोटी और कटोरे को चिह्नों के रूप में इस्तेमाल करना, आदि के बारे में हम पहले देख चुके हैं। अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए उस तरीके को जिसके द्वारा असिद्ध, गलतियाँ करने वाले, और पाप करने की संभावना में बने रहने वाले प्रभु के शिष्य भी किस प्रकार से, प्रभु के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता के अंतर्गत मेज़ में योग्य रीति से भाग ले सकते हैं, बिना अपने ऊपर प्रभु के न्याय को न्यौता दिए।
यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Participating Worthily
In the previous article, we have seen from 1 Corinthians 11:27 that to participate in the Lord’s Table in an unworthy manner means to participate in it in a manner different from what the Lord has given while instituting the Table with His disciples at the time of the Passover. We have seen in the earlier articles that God has always been very particular about the things He has said and asked to be done, especially in relation to His honor and worship. God has never permitted or accepted any deviation or modification or anyone’s personal interpretation of His directions and commandments. The same stands for the Holy Communion too. The Lord Jesus established the Communion for His committed disciples, those who had continued with Him in His trials (Luke 22:28). He instructed only them about participating in it; Judas Iscariot did not participate in the Holy Communion established by the Lord. Therefore, we can learn that partaking in the Lord’s Table is only for the committed people of God, who are willing to take a stand for Him; and not for everyone who ritualistically, or for any selfish reasons remains associated and attached with the Lord.
We have also seen that in their remaining with the Lord instead of going to their individual families to celebrate the Passover, and preparing for the Passover in accordance with the instructions of the Lord, they had shown a level of commitment and obedience to the Lord; which is something not often seen amongst the people who partake of the Communion ritualistically nowadays. But this does not mean that they were perfect and above reproach, even while sitting and eating the Passover meal, there was a dispute amongst them about who among them was the greatest (Luke 22:24-27). Probably it was because of this that the Lord got up from the meal and washed the disciple’s feet, as is recorded in John 13:4-17, including Judas Iscariot’s, since he was present for the Passover meal, and went out only after taking the ‘sop’ (John 13:30). The Lord instituted the Holy Communion after his going out, as we have seen earlier. The Lord also knew what the disciples would be doing shortly. Despite all their claims to the contrary, they would neither stay up with Him to pray, nor stand with Him when people came to arrest Him, but will leave Him alone and run away. But the Lord also knew that they would not permanently abandon Him and go back to their families and professions after His death. They will be penitent after this, and after His resurrection once their commitment to Him is renewed, they will be the ones who will go into the world and spread the Gospel at any cost. He knew what their repentance and re-commitment would accomplish in the days to come. Therefore, to think and believe that only absolutely perfect and totally sinless people can participate in the Lord’s Table, is a misunderstanding and misinterpretation of facts. The Lord’s instituting the Table with His fallible and errant disciples does not support such a thinking. The Lord also knows that no man can ever be perfect and sinless; everyone, including His committed disciples will sin, will repent, will need forgiveness (1 John 1:7-10). So those who participate in the Table should be the ones who are willing to accept their sins and short-comings before the Lord and ask His forgiveness for them; they should be willing to stay with Him, be obedient to Him, and trust Him even in their imperfections and with their limitations. What the Lord does not like or accept is arrogance, self-righteousness, and contrived religiosity. We will see more about this and participating in the Lord’s Table as we study the coming verses in the subsequent articles.
We have already seen about the other things related to worthily participating in the Table – about partaking the Holy Communion in remembrance of the life and purpose of the Lord’s coming to earth, of being His witnesses and proclaiming His death and resurrection, and using the bread and cup in a symbolic manner. In the next article we will see the Lord given mechanism through which the imperfect, errant, and prone to sinning disciples of the Lord, in obedience to the Lord, can still participate worthily, or in the correct manner in the Lord’s Table, without inviting judgment upon themselves.
If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
