परमेश्वर पर विश्वास करना – 1
परमेश्वर के वचन से बढ़ोतरी की इस श्रृंखला में हम सीख रहे हैं कि कैसे परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन का अध्ययन करने, उसे सीखने, और अपने जीवन में उसे लागू करने के द्वारा प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी आत्मिक जीवन में बढ़ोतरी और परिपक्वता प्राप्त कर सकता है। तीन प्रकार की मौलिक शिक्षाएँ हैं जिन्हें प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को सीखना चाहिए, क्योंकि वे शिक्षाएँ उसके विश्वास में स्थिर खड़े रहने और मसीही जीवन में उन्नति करने के लिए एक नींव का काम करेंगी। इन तीन में से एक, सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को हम देख चुके हैं; और वर्तमान में दूसरी प्रकार की शिक्षाओं – इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई छः आरम्भिक बातों के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख तक हमने इन छः में से पहली, अर्थात मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराने के बारे में सीखा है। आज हम इन छः में से दूसरी आरम्भिक बात – “परमेश्वर पर विश्वास करना” पर विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे।
यह वाक्याँश इस बात का संकेत करता है कि विश्वासी परमेश्वर के अस्तित्व में विश्वास रखता है और जो भी सीखना है वह परमेश्वर के प्रति विश्वास रखने के बारे में सीखना है। क्योंकि यह पत्री उन्हें लिखी गई है जो यहूदियों में से मसीही विश्वास में आए थे, अर्थात पहली यहूदी थे, इसलिए इसका अर्थ है कि इस पत्री के पाठक न केवल परमेश्वर में विश्वास करते थे, वरन प्रभु परमेश्वर यहोवा में विश्वास करते थे, जिसके बारे में तब के पवित्र शास्त्र, अर्थात हमारा पुराना नियम बताता और सिखाता है, तथा एक ही ईश्वर के मानने वाले थे। वर्तमान के मसीही विश्वासी भी उसी परमेश्वर में विश्वास रखते हैं; और साथ ही, क्योंकि इस पत्री के पाठक मसीही विश्वासी थे, इसका तात्पर्य है कि वे लोग प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास रखते थे। इसलिए यह प्रश्न सामने आता है कि परमेश्वर और प्रभु यीशु पर विश्वास रखने से सम्बन्धित इस सारी पृष्ठभूमि के बावजूद, उनके लिए “परमेश्वर पर विश्वास करना” एक ऐसा आरम्भिक सिद्धान्त कैसे हो गया, जिसे इस पत्री के पाठकों को फिर से सीखने की आवश्यकता पड़ गई?
इस प्रश्न के उत्तर के लिए इस तथ्य पर ध्यान कीजिए कि न केवल पुराना नियम इस्राएल में तथा इस्राएल के चारों और अनेकों देवी-देवताओं के माने जाने का उल्लेख करता है, वरन यह भी बताता है कि परमेश्वर के निर्देशों और शिक्षाओं के बावजूद, यहूदी बहुधा उन देवी-देवताओं की उपासना में, मूर्ति-पूजा में, गिर जाते थे। साथ ही, प्रभु यीशु मसीह की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई तथा प्रथम कलीसिया के समय में, जब इस्राएल रोमी शासन के आधीन था, रोमी सम्राट के देवता के समान पूजे जाने की भी प्रथा थी। फिर, हम प्रेरितों 17:16-17 से देखते हैं कि अथेने नगर मूर्तिपूजा से भरा हुआ था। इसी प्रकार से प्रेरितों 19:26-29 से हम देखते हैं कि इफिसुस नगर, एक ऐसा स्थान जहाँ पर पौलुस ने सेवकाई की थी, देवी डायना का नगर था। दूसरे शब्दों में, अनेकों नगर अन्यजातियों के देवी-देवताओं के नगर थे, और उन देवी-देवताओं के उपासक वहां पर आया करते थे। इसलिए उस समय की व्याप्त अन्यजाति संस्कृति में, विशेषकर उनके लिए जो गैर-यहूदी थे और जो इस्राएल राज्य की सीमाओं के बाहर से थे, ‘परमेश्वर’ का अर्थ कोई भी, और कुछ भी हो सकता था।
पहले आरम्भिक सिद्धान्त, अर्थात मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराने के हमारे अध्ययन में इस बात पर बल दिया गया था कि जब भी परमेश्वर के लोगों ने परमेश्वर के वचन को अध्ययन करना, सीखना, और पालन करना बँद किया, वे हमेशा ही समस्याओं में पड़े, और उन समस्याओं से निकलने का एक ही मार्ग रहा कि वे फिर से परमेश्वर के वचन को अध्ययन करने, सीखने, और पालन करने वाले बन जाएँ। अब, इब्रानियों 6:1-2 से सम्बन्धित हमारे इस अध्ययन के इब्रानियों 5:11-14 से परिचय का ध्यान कीजिए। उन परिचय की बातों में हमने देखा था कि ये इब्रानी विश्वासी अपने विश्वास में पीछे हो गए थे, अपने विश्वास में कमजोर पड़ गए थे, और लेखक उन्हें जो गूढ़ बातें सिखाना चाहता था, उन्हें समझ पाने के अयोग्य हो गए थे। हमने इस पर विचार करते हुए देखा था कि ऐसा संभवतः इसलिए हुआ था क्योंकि ये लोग अब वचन के अध्ययन, सीखने, और पालन करने में ढीले पड़ गए थे। इस दूसरी आरम्भिक बात, “परमेश्वर पर विश्वास करना” का लिखा जाना, उनके परमेश्वर से दूर हो जाने के एक अन्य पक्ष की ओर संकेत करता है - किसी कारणवश परमेश्वर पर उनका विश्वास भी कमज़ोर पड़ गया था। यद्यपि इस पत्री का लेखक यह तो नहीं कहता है कि वे मूर्तिपूजा में पड़ गए थे, किन्तु संभव है कि उस समय की अन्यजाति मूर्तिपूजा की संस्कृति ने उन पर कुछ प्रभाव डाला हो, और वे यहोवा को कई देवताओं में से एक समझने लगे हों, बजाए उसे एकमात्र परमेश्वर मानने के। यह कोई अनजानी समस्या नहीं है; आज भी बहुत से ईसाई या मसीही यह मानते हैं कि यीशु या यहोवा कई ईश्वरों में से एक ईश्वर है, कुछ यह भी मानते हैं कि स्वर्ग पहुँचने के कई मार्ग हैं, और यीशु में विश्वास करना, उनमें से एक मार्ग है। इसलिए, मसीही विश्वास की आरंभिक बातों में से एक के रूप में, बाइबल की इस शिक्षा को सीखना और मानना अनिवार्य है कि केवल एक ही परमेश्वर है, और उसके अतिरिक्त और कोई नहीं है (यशायाह 44:8; 45:21-22)।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Elementary Principles – 14
Faith Towards God - 1
In this series on Growth through God’s Word, we are learning how every Christian Believer can grow and mature spiritually through studying, learning, and applying in life, the whole of God’s Word. There are three fundamental kinds of teachings that every Christian Believer must know, since those teachings will serve as a foundation for him to stand firm in his faith and grow in his Christian life. Of these three, we have completed studying one kind of teachings – related to the gospel; and presently are learning the second kind of teachings – related to the six elementary principles, as given in Hebrews 6:1-2. Of these six, till the last article, we have learnt about the first elementary principle – repentance from dead works. Today we will begin considering the second of these six principles – “Faith Towards God.”
While most translations have used the phrase “Faith Towards God” some, e.g., the NIV, have used the phrase “Faith in God” – in either case it presupposes or takes for granted that the Believer already believes in the existence of God, and what has to be learned has to about faith towards God. Since this letter was written to those who had come into the Christian faith from Judaism, i.e., had been Hebrews, therefore, it means that the then readers of this letter not only believed in God, but believed in the Lord God Jehovah, that the Scriptures of that time, i.e., our Old Testament talks and teaches about, and were also mono-theistic, i.e., believed in only one God. The present-day Christian Believers too believe in the same God; moreover, since the readers of this letter were Christian Believers, that means, the readers of this letter believed in the Lord Jesus. Therefore, the question arises, despite all this background related to their believing in God and in the Lord Jesus, why would “Faith Towards God” be considered an ‘elementary principle’ for them, one that had to be re-learned by the readers of this letter?
To answer the question, consider the fact that not only does the Old Testament speak of many gods and goddesses that the pagans in and around Israel believed in and worshipped, but that despite God’s teachings and commands to the contrary, the Jews often fell into worshipping those pagan gods and goddesses as well, i.e., fell into idolatry. Also, during the time of the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus, and the time of the first Church, when the nation of Israel was under Roman rule, there was even the practice of worshipping the Roman emperor as a deity. Then, we see from Acts 17:16-17 that the city of Athens was given over to idols, similarly Acts 19:26-29 shows us that Ephesus, another place where Paul ministered, was the city of the goddess Diana. In other words, many cities were designated places of pagan deities, and the worshippers of those deities would come there to worship them. So, in the prevailing gentile culture of that time, especially for the non-Jews and those outside of the land of Israel, ‘god’ could mean anything or anyone.
In our considerations of the first elementary principle i.e., of ‘repentance from dead works’ it has been emphasized that whenever God’s people have stopped learning, studying, and obeying God’s Word, they have always fallen into problems; and the way out of those problems has been their reverting to studying, learning, and obeying God’s Word. Now, also recall the introduction about Hebrews 6:1-2, from Hebrews 5:11-14. In those preliminary considerations we had seen that these Hebrew Believers had fallen back, become weak in their faith, and were unable to grasp the deeper things that the author of this letter wanted to teach them. We had seen in those considerations that this was probably because they were no longer seriously and diligently studying, learning, and obeying God’s Word. The mention of this second elementary principle, “Faith Towards God” indicates another aspect of their slipping away from God – for some reason their faith in God had also come down. Though the author of this letter does not say that they had fallen into idolatry, but the pagan culture of idolatry may have had an influence, and they might have started to think of Jehovah as one of the ‘gods’ or one amongst many gods, instead of seeing Him as the one and only God. This is not an unknown problem; even today many Christians have the view that Jesus or Jehovah is one of the gods, and some even believe that there are many ways to heaven, and believing in Jesus is just one of them. Therefore, as one of the elementary principles of the Christian Faith, it is imperative to learn and follow the Biblical teaching that there is but one God (Isaiah 44:8; 45:21-22), and none other.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
