       प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से संबंधित प्रश्नों के बारे में देखते हुए, हम देख चुके हैं कि कितनी समय-अवधि में यह करना चाहिए - यदि और अधिक नहीं तो कम से कम सप्ताह में एक बार तो हो; और यह भी देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार इस आम धारणा का कोई समर्थन नहीं है कि इसे केवल एक विधिवत निर्धारित पादरी ही दे सकता है - कोई भी नया-जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, प्रभु यीशु का प्रतिबद्ध अनुयायी यह कर सकता है। एक अन्य प्रश्न जो अकसर उठता है, विश्वास में आने के कितने समय के बाद मसीही विश्वासी प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकता है? एक बार फिर, परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल इसके बारे में बिल्कुल स्पष्ट है, और जो भी उसे पढ़ते और अध्ययन करते हैं, उन्हें उत्तर के विषय में कोई असमंजस नहीं होता है। किन्तु डिनॉमिनेशंस के विधि-विधानों के कारण, क्योंकि मनुष्यों ने अपनी बुद्धि से नियम बनाकर उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन पर पालन करने के लिए थोप दिया है, बजाए इसके कि परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बातों और निर्देशों का पालन करें; इसीलिए भिन्न डिनॉमिनेशंस, समुदायों, और गुटों के विधि-विधानों का पालन करने वालों में भिन्नताएँ और असमंजस आ गए हैं।

       हम वापस पतरस के पहले प्रचार पर जाते हैं, जो उसने पवित्र आत्मा से भरने के बाद पिन्तेकुस्त के दिन किया था, और उसके प्रचार के फलस्वरूप जो हुआ, उसे देखते हैं। पतरस का यह संदेश उन “भक्त यहूदियों” (प्रेरितों 2:5) को संबोधित था, जो यरूशलेम में व्यवस्था के अनुसार पर्व मनाने के लिए एकत्रित हुए थे। जब वह उनसे पवित्र शास्त्र के आधार पर बात कर रहा था, तो उन भक्त यहूदियों के “हृदय छिद गए” और वे पतरस से पूछने लगे कि उन्हें क्या करना चाहिए (2:37)। क्योंकि अब उन्हें यह प्रकट था कि उनके धर्म, धार्मिकता के निर्वाह, व्यवस्था का पालन करने और पर्व मनाने के द्वारा वे प्रभु परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं हुए थे, उन्होंने उद्धार नहीं पाया था। पतरस उनसे पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करके बपतिस्मा लेने के लिए कहता है, ताकि वे संसार के सभी लोगों के लिए की गई परमेश्वर की प्रतिज्ञा के भागी हो सकें (2:38-40)। अब इससे आगे की बात को प्रेरितों 2:41-42 से देखते हैं, “सो जिन्होंने उसका वचन ग्रहण किया उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया; और उसी दिन तीन हजार मनुष्यों के लगभग उन में मिल गए। और वे प्रेरितों से शिक्षा पाने, और संगति रखने में और रोटी तोड़ने में और प्रार्थना करने में लौलीन रहे।”

       यहाँ पर जब भक्त यहूदियों ने पतरस द्वारा बताए गए समाधान को जब सुना, और “उसी दिन” उन्होंने जो प्रतिक्रिया दी तथा उन्हें जो प्रतिक्रिया मिली, उसके बारे में कोई असमंजस नहीं है। हमारे स्पष्ट समझने के लिए, इन दो पदों में लिखी इन प्रतिक्रियाओं को, सूचीबद्ध कर लेते हैं:

        * जिन्होंने पतरस के वचन को ग्रहण किया, उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया - विश्वास करने के तुरन्त बाद, यहाँ कोई उल्लेख नहीं है कि उनके विश्वास की पुष्टि करने और स्तर का आँकलन करने के लिए कुछ समय प्रतीक्षा करवाई गई।

        * जिन्होंने विश्वास किया था, वे उनमें, अर्थात प्रभु के शिष्यों में मिल गए - उन्हें तुरन्त ही मसीही विश्वासियों में सम्मिलित कर लिया गया, और वे उस समूह का भाग बन गए।

        * ये नए विश्वासी, मसीही विश्वासियों के समूह में सम्मिलित होने के साथ ही, मसीही विश्वास के चार खंबों, अर्थात प्रेरितों से शिक्षा पाने, संगति रखने, रोटी तोड़ने अर्थात प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होने, और प्रार्थना करने में सम्मिलित होने लगे, लौलीन रहने लगे।

 

       इसकी पुष्टि 2:46-47 से भी हो जाती है, जहाँ लिखा है कि जितनों को प्रभु प्रतिदिन उनके साथ जोड़ देता था, वे भी प्रेरितों 2:42 में उल्लेखित मसीही विश्वास के चार खंबों में भाग लेने लगे, बिना उन पर किसी भी कारण अथवा तर्क के अनुसार कोई प्रतीक्षा की अवधि लागू किए हुए।

        एक बार फिर से पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:17-34 में लिखे गए प्रभु भोज से संबंधित गलतियों को सुधारने के खण्ड पर ध्यान कीजिए। जैसे हमने पिछले लेख में भी इस खण्ड से प्रभु भोज देने के लिए विधिवत निर्धारित पादरी की आवश्यकता के बारे में देखा था, उसी प्रकार से अब ध्यान कीजिए कि क्या यहाँ पर किसी के मसीही विश्वास में होने की किसी अवधि का, किसी भी संदर्भ में, कोई भी उल्लेख है? कदापि नहीं! यहाँ इस प्रकार की किसी बात का न तो उल्लेख है और न ही ऐसा कोई अभिप्राय दिया गया है। उस कलीसिया की गलतियों और उनके विश्वास के जीवन की गंभीर स्थिति के लिए नए मसीही विश्वासियों को ज़िम्मेदार ठहराना बहुत सहज और तर्कपूर्ण होता। किन्तु पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस से ऐसा कुछ नहीं लिखवाता है, और न ही ऐसा कोई संकेत अथवा तात्पर्य भी देता है। न तो यहाँ, कोरिन्थ की मण्डली को लिखी गई इस पत्री में, और न ही किसी अन्य पत्री में या कहीं और, कभी भी यह कहा गया है कि क्योंकि नए मसीही विश्वासियों को ‘पूर्ण-सदस्यता’ के अधिकार और ज़िम्मेदारियाँ सौंप दी गईं थीं, जैसी कि अन्य परिपक्व और वरीयता प्राप्त मसीहियों की थीं, इसलिए मसीही विश्वास और संस्कारों से संबंधित अपनी अपरिपक्वता के कारण उन्होंने मण्डली में समस्याएं खड़ी कर दीं।

       इसलिए, हम निःसंकोच यह निष्कर्ष ले सकते हैं कि नए मसीही विश्वासी के प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के बारे में किसी को भी, कोई भी गलतफहमी नहीं होनी चाहिए। जिस पल से वह अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करता है, उसी पल से प्रत्येक व्यक्ति प्रभु की कलीसिया का सदस्य, परमेश्वर के परिवार का अंग हो जाता है; और उसके भी वही अधिकार और ज़िम्मेदारियाँ होती हैं, जो कलीसिया में तथा परमेश्वर के परिवार में किसी भी अन्य सदस्य की होती हैं। एक नए विश्वासी के लिए जो बात मना की गई है वह है कलीसिया का ‘अध्यक्ष’ होना (1 तिमुथियुस 3:6) - ‘अध्यक्ष या बिशप’ वैसा नहीं जैसा आज हम देखते और समझते हैं, परन्तु उस अभिप्राय से जैसा पौलुस द्वारा लिखे जाने के समय उसका होता था - किसी स्थानीय कलीसिया के कार्यों की देखभाल और प्रबंधन करने वाला उस कलीसिया का सदस्य। इसलिए, यह प्रकट है कि परमेश्वर का वचन किसी के लिए भी अपने विश्वास में आने के बाद अपने विश्वास और परमेश्वर के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता की पुष्टि करने के लिए, प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने योग्य होने के लिए, किसी भी समय-अवधि, या प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए नहीं कहता है।

       अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि यह असमंजस कलीसियाओं में क्यों आ गया। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

       यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

How Soon After Coming To Faith? (1)

 

       In considering the questions associated with participating in the Lord’s Table, we have already seen about the frequency of doing so - at least once a week, if not more frequently; and that Biblically there is nothing to support the common belief that it can only be administered by an ordained Pastor - any Born-Again Christian Believer, a committed disciple of the Lord Jesus can do it. Another question that often comes up is, how soon after coming to faith can the Christian Believer participate in the Holy Communion? Again, God’s Word the Bible is very clear about it, leaving those who read and study it, in no doubt about the answer. But because of denominational rules and regulations made by men in their wisdom then imposed over and above God’s Word, and made mandatory, instead of following what God has given and instructed, therefore, confusion and variations have come up amongst the followers of denominations, sects, and groups.

       Let us go back to Peter’s first preaching after being empowered by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, and what happened in response to his message. Peter had addressed the “devout Jews” (Acts 2:5), who had gathered in Jerusalem to observe the Feasts prescribed by the Law. As he spoke to them from the Scriptures, these devout Jews were “cut to the heart” and asked Peter what should they do (2:37), since it was apparent to them that their religion, religiosity, observance of the Law, and keeping of the Feasts had not made them acceptable to the Lord God, had not saved them. Peter asks them to repent of their sins and be baptized to receive the promise of God, made for everyone all over the world (2:38-40). Now, let us look at Acts 2:41-42 “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

       There is no confusion here, about what happened when the devout Jews heard Peter’s solution to their problem. The Biblical text is clear and unambiguous in these verses 41 & 42, about the response of, and towards those Jews, “on that very day”. For our clarity, let us outline their responses, from these two verses:

        * Those who received Peter’s word were baptized - immediately after believing, with no waiting for ascertaining and confirming the status of their faith being mentioned.

        * Those who had believed were “added to them”, i.e., to the Lord’s disciples - they immediately were accepted and became a part of the group of the disciples of the Lord Jesus.

        * These new disciples, immediately after being joined into the group of followers of the Lord Jesus, also began to steadfastly continue in the Four Pillars of Christian Faith, i.e., learning God’s Word from the Apostles, in Fellowship, in Breaking of Bread i.e., participating in the Holy Communion, and in Prayers.

             This is further affirmed from 2:46-47, where all those who were added to the Church by the Lord every day, also participated with the others in the Four Pillars of Christian Faith mentioned in Acts 2:42, without any waiting or delay being imposed on them for any reason whatsoever.

        Consider again, Paul’s corrective discourse in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, given through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we had taken note from this section, in the previous article, about the necessity of an ordained Pastor to administer the Lord’s Table; similarly, now, take note if there is any mention of anyone’s duration of being in faith, in any context, in this passage? No! There is nothing of this sort mentioned or implied. It would have been very convenient and logical to hold the newcomers into Faith responsible for the sorry state of affairs in the Church and for the gross irregularities seen in participating in the Lord’s Table. But the Holy Spirit does not have Paul say this or even remotely imply it in any manner. Neither here in this letter to the Corinthian Church, nor anywhere else, in any of the epistles, is it ever said that since new-comers to the Faith were allowed to participate as ‘full-fledged members’, were immediately conferred all the rights and privileges like the more senior and more mature members, therefore, they created these problems due their immaturity in understanding about the Christian Faith, its sacraments and their observances.

       Therefore, we can safely conclude that no one should have any misunderstandings on this count about a Born-Again Christian Believer’s participating in the Lord’s Table. From the moment of his repenting of sins and accepting the Lord Jesus as his savior, every person is a part of the Church, a member of God’s family, and has the same rights and privileges as anyone else in the Church and the family of God has. The only thing not permitted for new comers into the Faith is the office of Bishop (1 Timothy 3:6) - Bishop, not in the way it is seen and understood nowadays, but as it was seen and understood at the time Paul wrote it - meaning a member of that Church functioning as an overseer of the functioning of that local Church. Therefore, in effect, the Word of God does not prescribe any waiting period, or time for affirming one’s faith and commitment to God, before permitting them participation in the Holy Communion.

       In the following article, we will consider how and why this confusion has come around. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

 

       If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पिछले लेख में हमने, कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को पौलुस द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखे गए प्रभु भोज से सम्बन्धित खण्ड के अन्तिम भाग, उस के निष्कर्ष को 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:33-34 से देखना आरम्भ किया था। हमने पद 33 से देखा था कि पौलुस इस विषय पर अपने निष्कर्ष में उन्हें फिर से उसी बात पर लेकर आता है, जिसके साथ उसने इस निर्देश को, तथा इस पत्री को आरम्भ किया था - कलीसिया में एकता; जो प्रभु की दृष्टि में इस बात के बड़े महत्व का सूचक है। आज हम इस खण्ड के दूसरे पद, पद 34 पर विचार करेंगे।

    पौलुस पद 34 में फिर से इस बात पर जोर देता है कि प्रभु भोज में भाग लेना पूरा भोजन करने नहीं बैठना है, यह किसी की भूख मिटाने के लिए नहीं है, और न ही कलीसिया के सदस्यों को प्रभु भोज के लिए अपना निज भोजन लेकर आना है। यह तो सांकेतिक रीति से रोटी में से एक टुकड़ा, और कटोरे में से एक छोटा घूंट लेने के लिए है, जैसा कि तब हुआ था जब प्रभु यीशु ने पहली बार प्रभु भोज को दिया था। यहाँ पर पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा, पौलुस एक गंभीर चेतावनी जोड़ देता है - “जिससे तुम्हारा इकट्ठा होना दण्ड का कारण न हो”; प्रभु द्वारा दी गई इस रीति से भाग लेने पर ध्यान न देने का अर्थ प्रभु की मेज़ की गलत समझ रखना और उसे दुरुपयोग करना, और स्वयं को दण्ड का भागी बनाना है। उपरोक्त स्पष्टीकरण और योग्य रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से संबंधित निर्देशों के मिलने के बाद भी उनकी अवहेलना करके, अपनी ही रीति के अनुसार भाग लेते रहना, जान-बूझ कर परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करना है। क्योंकि परमेश्वर कभी भी बाहरी या ऊपरी व्यवहार तथा मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गई विधियों और रीतियों से प्रभावित नहीं होता है, इसलिए इस प्रकार की यह ढिठाई में की गई उसकी अनाज्ञाकारिता बहुत हानिकारक परिणाम लाएगी। जो लोग अनुचित रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते ही रहते है, फिर परमेश्वर उनका न्याय करेगा; और जैसा हम ऊपर देख चुके हैं परमेश्वर के न्याय के बाद परमेश्वर की ताड़ना भी आती है। तो फिर क्यों कोई भी जन, उसे जो उसके लिए आशीष का कारण हो सकता है, उसे पलटकर अपने लिए परमेश्वर के न्याय और ताड़ना का कारण बनाए?

    पद 34 का अन्तिम वाक्य है “और शेष बातों को मैं आकर ठीक कर दूंगा”, जो संकेत करता है कि अभी भी कुछ और मुद्दे शेष थे, जिन्हें समझाना और सही करना था, किन्तु संभवतः उनके लिए पौलुस का विद्यमान होना और आमने-सामने चर्चा करना आवश्यक था, या फिर वे इतने गंभीर नहीं थे, और पौलुस के वहाँ आने पर उन पर चर्चा की जा सकती थी। इसलिए उनके बारे में कुछ लिखने की बजाए, पौलुस इस विषय को इस वाक्य के साथ समाप्त कर देता है। किन्तु मुद्दे चाहे जो भी हों, यह देखने के बाद कि पौलुस द्वारा अनुचित रीति से मेज़ में भाग लेने को कितनी गंभीरता और दृढ़ता से लिया गया है, कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया के सदस्य यह तो समझ ही गए होंगे कि यदि वे लोग इन मुद्दों को और बढ़ने तथा बिगड़ने देते हैं, तो फिर उन्हें पौलुस के आने पर उसके द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:18-21 में लिखी बात का भी सामना करना पड़ेगा। इससे हमारे लिए शिक्षा यह है कि चाहे पौलुस ने इस पत्री में उन शेष मुद्दों को नहीं उठाया था, किन्तु उन्हें महत्वहीन समझ कर एक ओर भी नहीं कर दिया। पौलुस उन्हें आश्वस्त करता है कि वह उन बातों के बारे में जानता है, और उचित समय पर, जब वह वहाँ आएगा, जैसा कि वह योजना बना रहा था, निश्चय ही उनका समाधान भी करेगा; वह उनकी अनदेखी नहीं कर रहा है, न ही उन्हें एक ओर हटा रहा है। इसलिए कलीसिया के लोगों के लिए यह बहुत आवश्यक है कि वे किसी भी ऐसी बात की अनदेखी नहीं करें, उसे एक ओर न हटा दें, जो कलीसिया के सुचारु रीति से कार्य करने को, उसकी एकता को, तथा सदस्यों द्वारा प्रभु के योग्य मसीही जीवन को जी कर दिखाने को प्रभावित करती है। बल्कि, कलीसिया के लोगों को तुरन्त ही प्रत्येक मुद्दे पर चर्चा कर के उसका समाधान निकाल लेना चाहिए, इससे पहले कि शैतान उसे बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर गंभीर समस्याएं खड़ी कर दे।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Settle Issues & Maintain Unity (2)

    In the previous article we had begun considering 1 Corinthians 11:33-34, the concluding part of the instructions about the Lord’s Table, written by Paul to the Church in Corinth, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We had seen that in verse 33, in his conclusion, Paul once again brings them back to the same thing, with which he had started this instruction, as well as this letter – unity in the Church; which is an indicator of the great importance of this issue, in the eyes of the Lord. Today, we will consider the other verse of this passage, i.e., verse 34.

    In verse 34, Paul again emphasizes that participation in the Lord’s Table is not for having a full-fledged meal, it is not for satisfying anyone’s hunger, nor do the members of the Church need to bring their own food for the Holy Communion. It is only symbolically taking a piece of the bread, and a sip from the cup, as was done when the Lord Jesus established the Holy Communion. Through the Holy Spirit, Paul adds a serious caution here - “lest you come together for judgment”; not paying heed to participating in this manner, is to misunderstand and misuse the Lord’s Table, and make oneself liable for punishment. Having received the aforementioned clarifications and instructions about participating worthily in the Lord’s Table, to still ignore them and carry on in their own manner, is to deliberately disobey God. Since God is never impressed by the externals and man-made rituals and procedures, therefore, this stubborn disobedience will then invite its very harmful consequences. God will judge those who persist in their unworthy participation; and as we have seen above, God’s judgment is followed by God’s chastisement. So, why should anyone turn something that can be a blessing into a cause for God’s judgment and chastisement for them?

    The concluding sentence of verse 34, “And the rest I will set in order when I come” indicates that there were some other issues too, which needed to be explained and corrected, but they probably required Paul’s presence and a face-to-face discussion; or, they might not have been very gross and could wait till Paul visited them. So, instead of writing about them, Paul ends the matter with this sentence. But, in any case, having seen how seriously and strongly Paul has dealt with the unworthy participation of the Holy Communion, the Corinthian Church members would have become very wary, that if they let these unmentioned issues to grow and deteriorate, then Paul’s admonition of 1 Corinthians 4:18-21, will also become a reality for them, when he comes. The lesson for us is that even if those remaining issues were not mentioned and dealt with in this letter from Paul, yet, they were not swept under the carpet and ignored. Paul does give an assurance that he is aware of them, and in due time he surely will sort them out too, he is not ignoring them, not bypassing them; he will take them up when he comes to them, and he already was planning to do so. Therefore, it is necessary for the Lord’s people to not overlook, ignore, or bypass any issues that affect the functioning of the Church, especially its unity and their individually living a Christian life worthy of the Lord. Rather, the Church members should discuss and sort out every issue at the first available opportunity, else Satan can blow it out of proportion and create problems for the Church.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पवित्र आत्मा जिस अगले विषय पर पौलुस से चर्चा करवाना चाहता है, उसे आरंभ करने से पहले, 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:33-34 के द्वारा प्रभु भोज से संबंधित इस चर्चा को समाप्त करता है। पौलुस इस विषय को उसी मुद्दे के साथ अन्त करता है, जिसके साथ उसने इसे आरंभ किया था - मसीही विश्वासियों में परस्पर एकता और प्रभु भोज का दुरुपयोग, सांकेतिक रीति से भाग लेने के स्थान पर उसे एक पूरा भोजन बना लेना; पौलुस इस मुद्दे को प्रभु भोज पर इस चर्चा के लिए कोष्ठकों के समान प्रयोग करता है। इससे कलीसिया या मण्डली में एकता बनाए रखने तथा मसीही जीवन में प्रभु की मेज़ में योग्य रीति से भाग लेने की समझ रखने के महत्व को भी बल मिलता है।

    पौलुस पद 33 का आरंभ “इसलिए” के साथ करता है, अर्थात, यह तात्पर्य देने के द्वारा कि उपरोक्त पर ध्यान देने बाद अब अन्त की बात यह है कि प्रभु भोज में भाग व्यक्तिगत रीति से नहीं परंतु कलीसिया के रूप में एक साथ लेना है, और भाग लेने वालों को भाग लेने से पहले एक-दूसरे के लिए प्रतीक्षा करनी है। लोग अपने आप को जाँच रहे होंगे, और कुछ को यह करने में औरों से अधिक समय भी लग सकता है। जैसे प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने पहला प्रभु भोज उसके साथ एकत्रित शिष्यों को सामूहिक रीति से दिया था, उसी प्रकार से आज प्रभु के जो शिष्य प्रभु भोज के लिए एकत्रित होते हैं, उन्हें भी एक-साथ, सामूहिक रीति से भाग लेना है। ऐसा करना परस्पर एक-दूसरे का ध्यान रखने तथा आदर करने का संकेत और कलीसिया में एकता का चिह्न है। कलीसिया, अर्थात, प्रभु की देह और दुल्हन की इस एकता को कमजोर करने या तोड़ने के लिए किसी को भी, कभी भी, कुछ नहीं करना चाहिए। उनकी सामाजिक, आर्थिक, शैक्षिक, धार्मिक अथवा सांस्कृतिक पृष्ठभूमि चाहे जो भी हो, सभी को, अपने आप को एक ही स्तर पर लेकर आना है कि वे भी अन्य लोगों के समान, परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह और प्रभु यीशु मसीह के द्वारा उनके लिए दिए गए बलिदान के कारण (रोमियों 1:14; 12:16; कुलुस्सियों 3:11; तीतुस 3:3-5), परमेश्वर द्वारा पापों से छुड़ाए और बचाए गए लोग हैं। यदि प्रभु के लोग अपने बारे में यह दृष्टिकोण रखते हुए नहीं रहेंगे, तो शैतान को आपस में फूट और मतभेद उत्पन्न करने तथा कलीसिया की एकता को भंग करने और उसके सुचारु संचालन को बाधित कर देने का अवसर हमेशा बना रहेगा।

The Lord’s Table - Settle Issues & Maintain Unity (1)

    In this study on the Holy Communion, so far, from 1 Corinthians 11:17-32 we have seen that Paul was very forthright and uncompromising in exposing and denouncing the errors and short-comings of the Corinthians for their participation in the Lord’s Table. He reminds them that as Christian Believers, they do have to partake of the Table, but not as a ritual, not as a formality, but worthily, i.e., in the manner God has said it should be done. Participation in the Holy Communion is not eating of food, but symbolic. It is for remembering the Lord Jesus and His sacrifice, a proclamation of His death and imminent return. The participants have to first examine themselves, confess their sins to the Lord, ask His forgiveness for them, and having been pardoned, then to participate in the Lord’s Table worthily. Those who do not examine themselves, but take God and His instructions, His Word for granted, participate in it as a formality, as if it is a ritual, they will then have to contend with God and with His examining them, judging them, and chastising them for their stubbornness and persistent disobedience. God’s chastisement can be quite severe, ranging from the errant person becoming weak, or sick, even to his death.

    In 1 Corinthians 11:33-34 Paul concludes his discourse on the Holy Communion, before moving on to the next topic the Holy Spirit wants him to address. Paul closes with the same issue that he began this discussion with - unity amongst the Believers and misuse of the Table as a full-fledged meal instead of a symbolic participation; Paul uses this issue like the opening and closing parentheses for this topic of the Holy Communion. But this also underlines the importance of this unity in Church and proper understanding of participating in the Lord’s Table in Christian life.

    Paul begins verse 33 with “therefore”, meaning having considered the above, now the conclusion of the matter is that the Holy Communion is not for individual participation but for collective participation by the Church, and the participants have to wait for each other, before taking part. There will be people who will be examining their lives, preparing themselves to participate worthily, and some may take longer than others to do this. Just as the Lord Jesus gave the first Holy Communion collectively to the disciples gathered with Him, so too the disciples of the Lord that now gather for His Communion have to participate collectively. It is a sign and indicator of mutual respect and care, of unity in the Church. Nothing should be done to undermine or break this unity in the Church, i.e., the Body and Bride of Christ. Rather, everyone, irrespective of their social, financial, educational, ethnic, or any other status, has to bring himself to the same level as the others; consider himself only as one of the redeemed of God, like all the others are, he too has been saved from his sins by the grace of God on the basis of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for them (Romans 1:14; 12:16; Colossians 3:11; Titus 3:3-5). Unless the Lord’s people live with this viewpoint about themselves in the Church, Satan will always have an opportunity to sow seeds of discord and to disrupt the unity and smooth functioning of the Church.

    In the next article we will look at verse 34 of our passage under consideration.

प्रभु की मेज़ - अनुचित भाग लेने के लिए न्याय (4)

    पिछले लेख में हमने नए नियम से, ढिठाई से पाप और सांसारिकता में बने रहने वाले उसके लोगों को, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई ताड़नाओं और दंड के उदाहरणों को देखा था। इसी प्रकार से, मेज में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते रहने वाले लोग भी अपने लिए परमेश्वर से इसी व्यवहार को निमंत्रण देते हैं। यह बात केवल नए नियम के मसीही कहलाने वाले लोगों के लिए ही नहीं है। पुराने नियम में भी परमेश्वर ने अपने लोगों, इस्राएलियों के साथ ऐसा ही व्यवहार किया, उन की ढिठाई के लिए उन्हें घोर ताड़नाओं और दण्ड दिये। आज हम पुराने नियम से इसके कुछ उदाहरण देखेंगे।

    हम पुराने नियम में भी देखते हैं कि व्यवस्थाविवरण अध्याय 28-30 में मूसा इस्राएलियों के सामने  परमेश्वर के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता के लिए आशीषों और अनाज्ञाकारिता के लिए श्रापों को बताता है। परमेश्वर के लोगों इस्राएल की अनाज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने के कारण उनपर आने वाले श्राप 28:15-68 में दिए गए हैं, और अध्याय के अंत तक तीव्रता में बढ़ते ही चले जाते हैं। परमेश्वर मूसा के द्वारा 29:18-28 में कहता है कि न केवल लोग, वरन उनका देश भी श्रापित और उजाड़ हो जाएगा (29:23)। जब मूसा यह बात इस्राएलियों से कह रहा था, वे दूध और मधु की बहती धाराओं वाले देश में (गिनती 13:27) प्रवेश करने के लिए तैयार हो रहे थे; परन्तु परमेश्वर उन्हें चेतावनी देता है कि यदि वे उसे हल्के में लेंगे, उसकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करेंगे, और चिताए जाने पर भी पश्चाताप नहीं करेंगे, तो फिर उन्हें तथा उनके देश दोनों को ही परिणाम भुगतने पड़ेंगे, और उनकी आशीषें दुख और उजाड़ होने में बदल जाएंगी। हमें इसी बात को हाग्गै की पुस्तक में, हाग्गै 1:5-11; 2:15-17 में दिखाया गया है, क्योंकि इस्राएलियों ने परमेश्वर के प्रति उनकी ज़िम्मेदारी को हलके में लिया और उसे एक-किनारे कर दिया था। न्यायियों की पुस्तक, शिमशोन का उदाहरण, इस्राएल का 70 वर्ष के लिए राजा नबूकदनेस्सर तथा कसदियों के हाथों बंधुवाई में जाना (2 इतिहास 36:14-21), आदि, सभी इस बात के उदाहरण हैं कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों पर भी बहुत कठोर दण्ड लाता है, यदि वे अपनी ढिठाई में बने रहें और परमेश्वर को हलके में लेते रहें, उसकी अनाज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने, और यह मान कर चलते रहें कि परमेश्वर तो दयालु, अनुग्रहकारी, विलंब से कोप करने वाला है, इसलिए वे किसी हानि में पड़ने से बचे रहेंगे। वे लोग यह भूल जाते हैं कि परमेश्वर विलंब से कोप करने वाला तो है, किन्तु कभी कोप नहीं करने वाला नहीं है; परमेश्वर भस्म करने वाली आग भी है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:24; इब्रानियों 12:29)। यह बहुत आवश्यक है कि, उसे गंभीरता से ना लेने वालों के लिए उसके द्वारा दी गई चेतावनियों के, और, उसके वचन में दिए गए उसके गुणों, निर्देशों आधार पर, सदा ही परमेश्वर के बारे में एक संतुलित एवं वास्तविक दृष्टिकोण रखा जाए, निभाया जाए।

    परमेश्वर ने नूह के दिनों में, मनुष्य की दुष्टता को देखते हुए कहा था, “मेरा आत्मा मनुष्य से सदा लों विवाद करता न रहेगा” (उत्पत्ति 6:3)। पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को अविश्वासी इस्राएलियों के परिणाम, तथा विश्वास करने वाले अन्य-जातियों की आशीष को उन्हें याद दिलाते हुए कहा, “इसलिये परमेश्वर की कृपा और कड़ाई को देख! जो गिर गए, उन पर कड़ाई, परन्तु तुझ पर कृपा, यदि तू उस में बना रहे, नहीं तो, तू भी काट डाला जाएगा” (रोमियों 11:22)। प्रभु की मेज़ केवल प्रभु यीशु को, उसके पापी मनुष्यों के प्रति प्रेम और उसके बलिदान के द्वारा मनुष्यों के पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के उपलब्ध किए जाने को याद करने ही के लिए नहीं है। यह उनके लिए, जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह के अनुयायी होने का दावा करते हैं, स्वयं को प्रभु के लोग और परमेश्वर की संतान कहते हैं, और इसलिए अपने आप को प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के हकदार समझते हैं, उनके लिए मेज़ में भाग लेने से पहले अपने आप को सही प्रकार से जाँच लेने और अपने आप को ठीक कर लेने के लिए आह्वान भी है, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि परमेश्वर को उन्हें जाँचना और उनके साथ उचित व्यवहार करना पड़ जाए। कभी भी किसी को भी, विशेषकर नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों को, इस पूर्व-धारणा के साथ नहीं रहना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर उनके अनुचित और पथभ्रष्ट व्यवहार के साथ निभाने के लिए अपने स्तर और मानकों में फेर-बदल करेगा। बल्कि, परमेश्वर के मानकों और निर्देशों के अनुसार, जो उसके वचन में दिए गए हैं, उन्हें अपने आप को ठीक करना है, नहीं तो परिणाम भुगतने के लिए तैयार रहें।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (4)

    In the previous article we had seen the chastisements and punishment given by God to His people, who stubbornly persisted in their lives of sin and compromising with the world. Similarly, those who participate in the Lord’s Table unworthily, invite a similar treatment from God upon themselves. God dealt with His people the Israelites, in a similar manner, chastised and punished them for their stubbornness. Today, we will see some examples of this from the Old Testament.

    In the Old Testament we see in Deuteronomy chapters 28-30, that Moses recounts to Israel the blessings and curses for their obedience and disobedience to God. The curses upon God’s people Israel for their persistent disobedience to God are given in 28:15-68, and continually increase in severity till the end of the chapter. In 29:18-28 God says through Moses that not only the people, but even their land will be cursed and become waste (29:23). When Moses is speaking this to the Israelites, they were getting ready to enter a land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27), but God warns them that if they treat Him lightly, disobey Him and refuse to repent when admonished for their disobedience, then they as well as their land will suffer the consequences, their blessings will be replaced with wasting and suffering. We see the same thing stated in Haggai 1:5-11; 2:15-17 for Israel’s taking their responsibility towards God lightly and side-tracking it. The book of Judges, the example of Samson, Israel’s 70-year captivity and dispersion at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar and the Chaldeans (2 Chronicles 36:14-21), are all examples of God inflicting severe chastisement upon His people for their taking God lightly, persistently disobeying Him, while thinking they can get away with it since God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering God. They forgot that though He is longsuffering, but He is not ‘forever-suffering’ God; He is also a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; Hebrews 12:29). It is imperative to always maintain a factual and balanced view of God, on the basis of His characteristics, His instructions, and the warnings that He has given in His Word, for those who do not take Him and His Word seriously, and behave accordingly.

    God, seeing the wickedness of mankind, had said in the days of Noah “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever” (Genesis 6:3). Paul reminds the Roman Believers about the fate of the unbelieving Israelites, and about the grace they who had believed have experienced, “Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off” (Romans 11:22). The Lord’s Table is not only a call for remembering the Lord Jesus, His love for sinful man, and the forgiveness of sins for the salvation of mankind made available through His sacrifice because of that love. It is also a call for all who claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus, those who call themselves the people and children of God and therefore feel entitled to participate in His Communion, to learn to properly examine and correct themselves before participating in the Lord’s Table, lest God has to judge and appropriately deal with them. No one, least of all the Born-Again children of God should presume that God will alter His standards to accommodate their wayward behavior. Instead, they have to correct themselves, and set themselves right according to God’s standards and instructions, given in His Word, else suffer the consequences.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पिछले लेख में हमने पाप के प्रति परमेश्वर के व्यवहार पर विचार करते हुए, इब्रानियों 12:5-11 से देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी सन्तान को, अर्थात वास्तव में पापों से पश्चाताप कर के, उन की क्षमा प्राप्त करके, परमेश्वर के आज्ञाकारी और समर्पित जन बनकर जीवन जीने वाले लोगों की, जब आवश्यक होता है, उन्हें पाप से दूर करने के लिए उनकी ताड़ना भी करता है। मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में प्रभु की यह ताड़ना, उसके परमेश्वर की सन्तान होने का एक प्रमाण और पुष्टि है। साथ ही उनके लिए, जो परमेश्वर के लोग होने का दावा तो करते हैं, परन्तु सांसारिकता और पाप का जीवन जीते हैं, उनकी ताड़ना न होना, वास्तव में उनके परमेश्वर की सन्तान नहीं होने का भी प्रमाण है। आज हम इसी बात और इसके बहुत गम्भीर तात्पर्य को देखेंगे।

    यद्यपि यह एक बहुत कटु और चौंका देने वाली बात है, किन्तु बाइबल से समर्थन के बिना नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य भी उदाहरण हैं, जो दिखाते हैं कि बहुत से लोगों ने यह मान लिया है कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं, किन्तु परमेश्वर ने कभी भी उन्हें अपने लोग होने के लिए न तो जाना और न ही कभी स्वीकार किया, वे चाहे जो भी कहते या करते रहें। मत्ती 7:21-23 इस बात का एक उदाहरण है; इन पदों में जिन लोगों के बारे में कहा गया है वे अपने आप को परमेश्वर के लोग मानते थे, उनका मानना था कि वे परमेश्वर के लिए कार्य कर रहे हैं, किन्तु अंत में जाकर प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि वे कुकर्म करने वाले हैं और प्रभु ने उन्हें कभी नहीं जाना। इसी प्रकार से, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए दस कुँवारियों के दृष्टांत में (मत्ती 25:1-12), वे पाँच मूर्ख कुँवारियाँ समझती थीं कि वे प्रभु के साथ की हैं, किन्तु 25:12 में प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि “मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, मैं तुम्हें नहीं जानता।” हम लूका 13:23-30 में भी देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने लोगों को पूर्व-धारणा रखते हुए यह मान कर चलते रहने के प्रति सचेत किया कि वे प्रभु के लोग हैं। प्रभु ने उनसे कहा कि अंत के दिन बहुत से होंगे जो यह कहेंगे के वे प्रभु के साथ चलते-फिरते थे, रहते थे, इसलिए वे भी प्रभु के लोग हैं, परंतु प्रभु उन्हें कभी भी जानने के उनके दावे से इनकार कर देगा। परमेश्वर का वचन यह भी दिखाता है कि इस सिक्के का दूसरा पहलू भी है, परमेश्वर पहले से ही जानता है कि उसके लोग कौन हैं (यूहन्ना 10:27; 2 तीमुथियुस 2:19), और किसी को भी सिवाए परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में चलते रहने के अतिरिक्त और कुछ भी विशेष करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। उनका यही करना भर ही संसार के सामने प्रमाणित कर देगा कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23; 1 यूहन्ना 2:3-6)। यूहन्ना और तीमुथियुस से लिए गए ये पद हमें वास्तव में परमेश्वर के लोग होने की पहचान करने के गुणों को दिखाते हैं।

    इस समझ और पहचान के द्वारा हम जान सकते हैं कि क्यों ऐसे बहुत से लोग जो अपने आप को ईसाई या मसीही विश्वासी कहते हैं, किन्तु संसार के साथ समझौते का जीवन जीते हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते हैं, किन्तु कभी प्रभु द्वारा उनकी ताड़ना नहीं होती है, वे अपने जीवन और व्यवहार में ऐसे चलते रहते हैं मानों उन्होंने कभी कुछ गलत किया ही नहीं है। ऐसा इसलिए होता है क्योंकि अपने ईसाई या मसीही होने के सभी दावों के बावजूद, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में वे उसके बच्चे, उसके लोग हैं ही नहीं! चाहे वे अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहें, बहुत भक्ति और धर्म-निर्वाह का जीवन व्यतीत करें, अपनी तथा संसार की दृष्टि में बहुत “धर्मी” हों, किन्तु परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में और उसके आँकलन के अनुसार, वे उसकी संतान या उसके लोग नहीं हैं; इसलिए वह उनके साथ अपने बच्चों के समान व्यवहार नहीं करता है, उनके गलत व्यवहार के लिए उनकी ताड़ना नहीं करता है। वह उनसे अंत में न्याय के समय व्यवहार करेगा, जैसे कि वह संसार के सभी अविश्वासियों के साथ करेगा। तब तक वो जो चाहे करते रहें, लेकिन उनका अपने आप को “मसीही” कहना उन्हें वैसे “मसीही” नहीं बनाता है, जैसा परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उसके लोग हों। परमेश्वर की संतान, उसके लोग होने के लिए, उनमें वे गुण होने चाहिएं जो हमने ऊपर यूहन्ना और तिमुथियुस से लिए गए वचन के हवालों में देखे हैं। अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:31-32 से अपने आप को जाँचने तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा जाँचे जाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (4)

    In the previous article, while considering about God dealing with sin, we had seen from Hebrews 12:5-11 that, to draw them away from sin, as and when it is necessary, God even chastises His children, i.e., those who have truly repented of their sins, have received forgiveness for them, and live in obedience and surrender to God. This chastening from God for a Christian Believer, is also a proof and affirmation, of their being God’s children. At the same time, for those who claim to be the people of God, but live a life of worldliness and sin, their not being chastised, is a proof that they are not the children of God. Today, we will consider about this very serious matter and its implications.

    Though this is a very strong and shocking statement, but it is not without Biblical support. There are other instances in God’s Word that show that many people have assumed themselves to be God’s people, but God had never known or accepted them as His people, whatever they may have said or done. Matthew 7:21-23 is one such example; the people mentioned here thought they were God’s people, working for God, but at the end the Lord calls them those who practice lawlessness and declares that He never knew them. Similarly, in the parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-12), the five foolish virgins thought they were part of the Lord’s party, but in 25:12, the Lord tells them, ‘I do not know you.’ Again, in Luke 13:23-30, the Lord Jesus warned against being presumptive and clearly told that eventually there will be many who will claim that they too were God’s people and moved around with Him, but the Lord will refuse to accept their claim and deny ever knowing them. God’s Word also says that on the flip side, God already knows those who are His people (John 10:27; 2 Timothy 2:19), no one has to do anything other than live a life of obedience to God and His Word, abide in Him, and that by itself will show to the world that they are God’s people (John 14:21, 23; 1 John 2:3-6); these verses from John and Timothy also give us the criteria to know and recognize who actually are God’s people.

    Through this insight we can understand why many people who live a life of compromise with the world, partake of the Lord’s Table unworthily, are never chastened or judged by the Lord, and they continue in their life and behavior as if they were doing nothing wrong. It is because in God’s eyes, despite all their claims to the contrary, they are not His children! Though they call themselves “Christians”, though they may be very pious and religious, very “righteous” in their own eyes as well as the eyes of the world, but in God’s eyes and in God’s evaluation, they are not His children, so He does not deal with them as His children, does not chasten them for their wrong behavior. He will deal with them at judgment time, as He will deal with every other unbeliever of the world; till then they can do what they want, but their claiming to be “Christians” does not make them the “Christians” God wants people to be. To be God’s people, they have to have the characteristics we saw above from the references taken from John and Timothy. In the next article we will look into 1 Corinthians 11:31-32, about judgment, self as well as God’s.
