पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था की प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने हमारे लिए व्यवस्था को पूरा कर के उसकी विधियों के लेख को, अर्थात विभिन्न बलिदानों, रीतियों, पर्वों के निर्वाह को हमारे सामने से हटा दिया है। इसे समझने के लिए हमने कुलुस्सियों 2:13-17, विशेषकर, पद 14 और 16 से देखा था। किन्तु साथ ही हमने मत्ती 22:35-40 और लूका 10:28, विशेषकर लूका 10:28 से, उस व्यवस्थापक या शास्त्री से, जिसने व्यवस्था के पालन का प्रश्न उठाया था, वार्तालाप के अन्त में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा ज़ोर देकर उससे व्यवस्था के सही अभिप्राय के निर्वाह के लिए भी कहने, अर्थात्, परमेश्वर तथा मनुष्यों के साथ एक सही सम्बन्ध में आकर उसका ठीक से निर्वाह करते रहने के विरदेश को भी समझा था। हमने इन  बातों से समझा था कि प्रभु यीशु ने जिन बातों को पूरा करके क्रूस पर ठोक दिया है, हमारे सामने से हटा दिया है, वे दिनों, पर्वों, बहेतों, बलिदानों, आदि - छाया मात्र का निर्वाह करना है। परन्तु व्यवस्था, अर्थात्, परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में आना और जीना, वह अभी भी सभी मनुष्यों के लिये, मसीही विश्वासियों के लिये भी, लागू है। अब जो बदला है, वह है व्यवस्था के निर्वाह का तरीका - अब यह प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने और उसके प्रतिबद्ध शिष्य का जीवन जीने - अर्थात्, किसी प्रकार के कर्मों के द्वारा नहीं, बल्कि प्रभु को समर्पित और उसमें विश्वास का जीवन जीने के द्वारा है।

 

इसी प्रकार से अब एक अन्य सम्बन्धित पद, रोमियों 10:4 को भी देखिए, “क्योंकि हर एक विश्वास करने वाले के लिये धामिर्कता के निमित मसीह व्यवस्था का अन्त है।” यहाँ पर भी कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है। जैसा हमने पहले के लेखों में देखा था, व्यवस्था की ये बातें, जिन्हें प्रभु ने पूरा करके हमारे सामने से हटा दिया है, वे हमारे शिक्षक के समान थीं, जिन्होंने हमें पाप, उसकी जवाबदेही, उसके परिणामों, और केवल उद्धारकर्ता पर विश्वास के द्वारा पापों से निवारण की बातों को सिखाकर, परमेश्वर के लोगों को अब्राहम से प्रतिज्ञा किए गए “उसके वंश,” जगत के उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु मसीह के हाथों में सौंप दिया है (उत्पत्ति 12:1-3; गलातियों 3:16-18, 25-28)। अब उस शिक्षक का कार्य और भूमिका पूरे होकर समाप्त हो गए हैं। इससे आगे जो भी है, वह प्रभु यीशु में और उसके द्वारा ही है, अन्य किसी व्यक्ति या बात से नहीं। इसीलिए मनुष्य को धर्मी बनाने के लिए, “धामिर्कता के निमित मसीह व्यवस्था का अन्त है”; दूसरे शब्दों में, अब इसके आगे व्यवस्था की उन बातों की, जो उसकी छाया, उसकी ओर संकेत करने वाली बातें थीं, जिन्हें मसीह द्वारा पूरा करके हटा दिया गया है, उनकी अब कोई भूमिका नहीं रह गई है, उनका अन्त हो गया है। अब जो धार्मिकता है, वह मसीह यीशु में विश्वास की धार्मिकता है, “कि यदि तू अपने मुंह से यीशु को प्रभु जानकर अंगीकार करे और अपने मन से विश्वास करे, कि परमेश्वर ने उसे मरे हुओं में से जिलाया, तो तू निश्चय उद्धार पाएगा। क्योंकि धामिर्कता के लिये मन से विश्वास किया जाता है, और उद्धार के लिये मुंह से अंगीकार किया जाता है” (रोमियों 10:9-10)।

किन्तु इन विधियों के लेख को पूरा कर के हटा लिए जाने से, प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के लिये व्यवस्था की, उसकी सही परिभाषा के अनुसार निर्वाह करने की आवश्यकता; अर्थात् परमेश्वर के साथ मेल-मिलाप और सम्बन्ध बहाल करने की अनिवार्यता समाप्त नहीं हुई है। प्रत्येक व्यक्ति द्वारा व्यक्तिगत रीति से, स्वेच्छा से, अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करने, मसीह यीशु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगने, और अपना जीवन उसे समर्पित करके उसका प्रतिबद्ध और आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बन जाने के द्वारा परमेश्वर के साथ अपने संबंधों को ठीक कर लेना अनिवार्य है। वरन्  और दृढ़ता से स्थापित हो गई है तथा इसकी पुष्टि हो गई है “​सो जब हम विश्वास से धर्मी ठहरे, तो अपने प्रभु यीशु मसीह के द्वारा परमेश्वर के साथ मेल रखें” (“रोमियों 5:1)। परमेश्वर के साथ हुए हमारे इस मेल-मिलाप को उन्नत करते जाने के लिए हमें अब किसी “विधियों के लेख” का पालन करने की नहीं, वरन प्रभु यीशु की आज्ञाकारिता और समर्पण में चलते रहने की आवश्यकता है “और वह इस निमित्त सब के लिये मरा, कि जो जीवित हैं, वे आगे को अपने लिये न जीएं परन्तु उसके लिये जो उन के लिये मरा और फिर जी उठा” (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:15)।

इसलिए आज भी मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए “व्यवस्था” का, उसकी सही परिभाषा और वास्तविक अर्थ में पालन करने की उतनी ही आवश्यकता है, व्यवस्था की मसीही विश्वास के जीवन में उतनी ही महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है, जितनी पहले थी। परमेश्वर का वचन, उसकी बातें कभी बदलती या टलती नहीं हैं; न परमेश्वर कभी बदलता है, और न उसका वचन कभी बदलता है “क्योंकि मैं यहोवा बदलता नहीं; इसी कारण, हे याकूब की सन्तान तुम नाश नहीं हुए” (मलाकी 3:6); “हे यहोवा, तेरा वचन, आकाश में सदा तक स्थिर रहता है। तेरी सच्चाई पीढ़ी से पीढ़ी तक बनी रहती है; तू ने पृथ्वी को स्थिर किया, इसलिये वह बनी है” (भजन 119:89-90)। और व्यवस्था भी, उसके सही स्वरूप और अर्थ में, मसीह यीशु में होकर हमेशा निर्वाह किये जाने के लिये दी है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 29:29; 2 राजाओं 17:37; भजन 119:44; इब्रानियों 7:28)।

  

अगले लेख से हम आशीषित और सफल जीवन के बारे में एक नई शृंखला आरंभ करेंगे। यदि आप अपने आप को किसी भी प्रकार की “व्यवस्था” - वह चाहे परमेश्वर की हो, या आपके धर्म, मत, समुदाय, या डिनॉमिनेशन की हो - के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी बनाने के, और अपने शरीर के कार्यों के द्वारा अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के प्रयासों में लगे हैं; तो ध्यान देकर समझ लीजिए कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट बताता है कि रीति के समान व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन, परमेश्वर के दिए हुए पश्चाताप और समर्पण करने के मार्ग का पालन करने के द्वारा ही आप परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और उसे स्वीकार्य बन सकते हैं। अभी समय और अवसर रहते सही मार्ग अपना लें, और व्यर्थ तथा निष्फल मार्ग को छोड़ दें।

   

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Law & Living the Christian Faith – 2

 

In the previous article we had seen that the Lord Jesus has fulfilled and put away for us the requirements of the Law, i.e., the observance and fulfilling various sacrifices, feasts, festivals etc. To understand this, we had seen from Colossians 2:13-17, specifically, verses 14 and 16. We had also seen from Matthew 22:35-40 and Luke 10:25-28, particularly from Luke 10:28, and understood about the Lord’s categorical instruction to the Scribe who had raised the question of observing the Law, that he should continue to observe the correct meaning, or, the actual purpose of the Law, i.e., to come into and live in a right relationship with God and man. We had understood from these that what the Lord had fulfilled, nailed to the Cross and removed for us, were the days, feasts, festivals, sacrifices, etc. - the shadows. But the actual Law, i.e., coming into and living in a right relationship with God and man still remains in place for everyone, even the Christian Believers. What has now changed is the way this Law is lived out - through coming to faith in Christ Jesus and living a life of being His committed and obedient disciple - i.e., not by any kind of works, but by submission to the Lord and faith in Him.

 

Similarly, now consider another related verse, Romans 10:4, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes." Even here, there is no contradiction. As we have seen in the previous articles, these things of the Law, which the Lord has accomplished and removed from us, were like our teacher, who taught us about sin, our accountability for sin, its consequences, and deliverance from sin through faith in the Savior alone and has handed over God's people to the promised “seed of Abraham,” Lord Jesus Christ, the promised Savior of the world (Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 3:16-18, 25-28). Now the work and role of that teacher have been completed. Whatever is beyond this, is in and through the Lord Jesus, not anything or anyone else. That is why in order to make man righteous, "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness"; In other words, now those things of the Law, which were shadows of Christ, indicators pointing to Him, have been fulfilled and done away with by Christ, they no longer have any role, they have come to an end. The righteousness that now exists, is the righteousness of faith in Christ Jesus, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).

But the fulfillment and taking away of these requirements of the Law, has not taken away the necessity of observing the Law, in its correct definition and understanding, by every person; i.e., the essential requirement of being reconciled with God and be restored in fellowship with Him has not come to an end. Every person must personally, voluntarily, repent of their sins, ask the Lord Jesus to forgive sins, and surrender their life to the Lord Jesus, and having become His committed and obedient disciple, to then continually live in that relationship. Rather, this application of the Law has been even more firmly established and confirmed “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). In order to continually maintain and develop this peace and reconciliation with God, we no longer need to follow any "requirements of the Law" but to walk in obedience and submission to the Lord Jesus "and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again" (2 Corinthians 5:15).

That's why there is just as much need for Christians today to follow the "Law" in its true definition and actual meaning, and it has an as important role in the life of Christian faith as it had earlier. The Word of God, His words never alter or change; God never changes, and his Word never changes “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob" (Malachi 3:6); “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides" (Psalm 119:89-90). And, the Law too, has been given to be observed always, through Christ Jesus (Deuteronomy 29:29; 2 Kings 17:37; Psalm 119:44; Hebrew 7:28).

 

From the next article we will start a new series on living a Blessed and Successful Life. If you consider yourself righteous and acceptable to God by observance of any kind of “law”—whether of God, or of your religion, creed, community, or denomination—and by the works of your flesh; then, pay heed and understand that God's Word clearly states that you can become righteous and acceptable to God, not by keeping the ritualistic requirements of the Law, but by following God's path of repentance and submission. Now, while you have the time and opportunity, take the right step, and leave the useless and fruitless path that you may have been walking upon till now.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

इस श्रृंखला के पिछले लेखों में हमने परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से देखा है, और बाइबल के आधार पर व्यवस्था के बारे में दो बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण बातों को स्थापित किया है। पहली बात, व्यवस्था को कभी मनुष्य के पाप का और परमेश्वर से दूरी का समाधान होने के लिये दिया ही नहीं गया था; बल्कि, जैसे एक नापने वाला पैमाना होता है, उसी प्रकार से व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य परमेश्वर की पवित्रता और धार्मिकता के मानकों के उच्च स्तर को दिखाना (रोमियों 3:20-21), तथा एक दर्पण के समान, मनुष्य को, परमेश्वर के सामने उसकी वास्तविक पापमय दशा को दिखाना था (रोमियों 7:7)। दूसरी बात, जैसा हमने मत्ती 22:37-40 में प्रभु यीशु के ही शब्दों में देखा था, व्यवस्था का पालन करने का अर्थ है परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार सही सम्बन्धों को बनाना और निभाना है। परमेश्वर के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में होने और बने रहने का अर्थ उससे सारे मन, ध्यान, विचार, और धन से प्रेम करना तथा उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित रहना और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में रहना है, और साथ ही औरों से भी अपने ही समान प्रेम करना है (मत्ती 22:37-40)। जब परमेश्वर के साथ सम्बन्ध ठीक होगा, तो यह मनुष्यों के साथ भी सही सम्बन्ध बनाने और निभाने में भी प्रकट होगा। यही व्यवस्था का पालन करने का वास्तविक अर्थ है। प्रकट है कि इस में किसी प्रकार की औपचारिकता का कोई स्थान नहीं है।

  

पिछले लेखों में हमने व्यवस्था के एक रीति और परंपरा के समान औपचारिक निर्वाह से होने वाले दुष्प्रभावों एवं दुष्परिणामों को तीन ऐसे लोगों के जीवनों के उदाहरणों से देखा था, जो धार्मिकता और व्यवस्था पालन की अपनी ही धारणाओं के अनुसार स्वयं को धर्मी और परमेश्वर की सच्ची सेवा करने वाले समझते थे। परन्तु वे स्वयं ही अपने जीवन में एक खालीपन को अनुभव करते थे, अपने अन्दर उन्हें यह एहसास था कि अपनी इस धार्मिकता और सेवा के बावजूद, वे शायद परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं हैं। उनके जीवनों के आधार पर हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा था कि इस प्रकार से व्यवस्था का औपचारिक और ऊपरी पालन करने से किसी व्यक्ति को कोई आत्मिक लाभ नहीं होता है; बल्कि, इसे लेकर उसके अन्दर एक परेशानी बनी रहती है, जो फिर औरों को भी परेशान करती रहती है। हमने यह बात नये नियम से, जिन तीन लोगों के जीवनों के उदाहरण के द्वारा देखी और समझी थी, वे हैं, मत्ती 19:16-22 से धनी युवा अधिकारी; फिर यूहन्ना 3:1-21 से फरीसियों के सरदार, निकुदेमुस; और एक परमेश्वर के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध फरीसी, शाऊल, जो बाद में पौलुस प्रेरित के नाम से विख्यात हुआ। आज हम इन तीनों व्यक्तियों जीवनों से, व्यवस्था के औपचारिक, रीति-रिवाजों के समान, व्यर्थ निर्वाह से उत्पन्न होने वाली बेचैनी और उसके परिणामों से सम्बन्धित निष्कर्षों को देखेंगे।

 

जिन तीन व्यक्तियों के उदाहरणों को हमने देखा है, संक्षेप में - धनी जवान सरदार रीति के अनुसार पालन व्यवस्था का करता आ रहा था और अपने कर्मों के आधार पर स्वयं को धर्मी समझता था, तथा कर्मों के द्वारा परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होना चाहता था। नीकुदेमुस व्यवस्था का एक विद्वान और शिक्षक था, परन्तु उसे समझे बिना ही उसका निर्वाह कर रहा था। और पौलुस, व्यवस्था के बारे में अपनी समझ के अनुसार, एक उत्साह और उन्माद में, उनको सताने का जीवन जी रहा था जो व्यवस्था की उसकी समझ के अनुसार नहीं चलते थे - और अपने इन कर्मों से परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करना चाह रहा था। परन्तु तीनों को यह एहसास था कि व्यवस्था पालन करने के बारे में उनकी धारणाएँ और मान्यताएँ व्यर्थ और निष्फल थीं; अभी वे परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं थे।

  

इन तीनों उदाहरणों से हम क्या निष्कर्ष निकाल सकते हैं? वचन के ये तीनों उदाहरण दिखाते हैं कि जो शैतान के ‘धर्म के निर्वाह’ (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) और धार्मिकता के चंगुल में फंसकर, शैतान के भ्रम, युक्तियों, और कुटिलता के द्वारा “व्यवस्था” का गलत अर्थ रखते हैं, वह उन से उसका अनुचित रीति से निर्वाह करवाता है। उन लोगों के लिए शैतान उसी व्यवस्था से बेचैनी और अशान्ति ही उत्पन्न करता है, और वह उन्हें आत्मिक रीति से अन्‍धा, तथा परमेश्वर के वचन को समझ नहीं सकने वाला बना देता है। शैतान उन्हें उनकी अपनी ही गढ़ी हुई भक्ति और धार्मिकता के जाल में फंसा देता है। और फिर चुपके से और चालाकी से उन्हें इसका एहसास हुए बिना, उन्हें परमेश्वर की वास्तविकताओं के विरुद्ध, परमेश्वर की निन्दा करने वाला, और प्रभु के सच्चे अनुयायियों को सताने वाला बना देता है। और आज हम इस बात को सारे संसार में व्यापक रीति से होता हुआ देख रहे हैं, चाहे लोग किसी भी “व्यवस्था” का पालन करने वाले क्यों न हों।

 

इससे यह स्वाभाविक प्रश्न उठता है कि कोई कैसे पहचान सकता है कि वह परमेश्वर के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में है कि नहीं। लोगों के शैतान के चंगुल में फँसे होने का एक प्रमुख चिह्न है कि उन्हें व्यक्तिगत रीति से परमेश्वर के साथ निकटता सम्बन्ध में होने और उसकी शांति के उनके साथ होने उन्हें उपलब्ध होने (यूहन्ना 14:27; 16:33) का एहसास नहीं होता है। लेकिन जैसे ही व्यक्ति पश्चाताप और पाप क्षमा, अर्थात नया जन्म होने के द्वारा, परमेश्वर के साथ सही संबंध में आता है, स्वतः ही उसका दृष्टिकोण भी बदल जाता है, और मनुष्यों के साथ उसके सम्बन्ध भी सुधरने लग जाते हैं। उसका बदला हुआ जीवन इस बात की गवाही देता है कि वह अब उस जीवन में – अनन्त जीवन में प्रवेश कर गया है, जिसकी प्रतिज्ञा परमेश्वर ने दी है, कि व्यवस्था का पालन करने, अर्थात, परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्ध में आने से जीवन मिलेगा। यदि निकुदेमुस और पौलुस जैसे धर्म के अगुवों और परमेश्वर के वचन के ज्ञानियों को पश्चाताप करने और पापों की क्षमा पाना, नया जन्म प्राप्त करना अनिवार्य था, तो हमारे लिए यह कितना अधिक आवश्यक और अनिवार्य है, आप स्वयं समझ सकते हैं।

 

अगले लेख में हम आज के लिये व्यवस्था की उपयोगिता के बारे में देखना आरम्भ करेंगे। अभी के लिए, यदि आप अपने आप को किसी भी प्रकार की “व्यवस्था” - वह चाहे परमेश्वर की हो, या आपके धर्म, मत, समुदाय, या डिनॉमिनेशन की हो - के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी बनाने के, और अपने शरीर के कार्यों अथवा अपने धर्म के पालन के द्वारा अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के प्रयासों में लगे हैं; तो ध्यान देकर समझ लीजिए कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट बताता है कि व्यवस्था अथवा धर्म के पालन के द्वारा नहीं, वरन, परमेश्वर के दिए हुए पश्चाताप और समर्पण करने के मार्ग का पालन करने के द्वारा ही आप परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और उसे स्वीकार्य बन सकते हैं। अभी समय और अवसर रहते सही मार्ग अपना लें, और व्यर्थ तथा निष्फल मार्ग को छोड़ दें।

   

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Harmful Effects of Formal Observation of the Law – 4 

In the previous articles of this series, we have seen from God’s Word the Bible, and Biblically established two very important things about the Law. Firstly, the Law was never meant to be the solution to man’s sin and separation from God; rather, like a measuring scale, it was given to show God’s high standards of holiness and righteousness (Romans 3:20-21), and like a mirror, to show every person their actual sinful standing before God (Romans 7:7). Secondly, we saw from Matthew 22:37-40, through the Lord Jesus’s own words, that obeying the Law is the coming into, and continuing in the right relationship with God and men, in the manner instructed by God. To be in, and to remain in the right relationship with God means to love Him with all your body, soul, and spirit, and your possessions as well; to be completely committed to Him, to be obedient to Him, and to love others as self as well. When man’s relationship with God is right, it will also manifest in building and maintaining the right relationship with other God’s creation, fellow human beings. This is what fulfilling the Law actually means. It is evident that there is no place for any kind of formal observances in this.

In the previous articles we have seen the harmful effects and results of the formal observance of the Law as mere rituals and traditions from the lives and examples of three persons. These three, on the basis of their being religious, and observing the Law according to their own concepts and understanding, considered themselves to be righteous and truly serving God. Through their lives, we had seen that such perfunctory and ritualistic observance of the Law does not spiritually benefit anyone; rather they themselves remain troubled by the emptiness in them about this, which then troubled others around them. In the previous article we had said that we will understand about this from the New Testament, through the examples of three people. The three people we considered as examples are from the New Testament; they are the Rich Young Ruler from Matthew 19:16-22; Nicodemus, a leader of the Pharisees from John 3:1-21; and a Pharisee committed to serving God, named Saul, later became famous as Paul the Apostle. Today we will see the conclusions of what we saw from the lives of these three people, regarding the restlessness and consequences such formal and ritualistic vain observance of the Law causes.

To summarize the three examples, we have considered - the Rich Young Ruler ritualistically observed the Law, considered himself to be righteous through his works, and thought of becoming acceptable to God through works. Nicodemus was a scholar and teacher of the Law, but was following the Law without understanding it. Paul very zealously followed his understanding of the Law, and persecuted those who lived contrary to his understanding of the Law - trying to please God by his such works. But all three of them had the realization of the vanity and fruitlessness of their concepts and belief about the Law, and their being unacceptable to God in the state they were.

What conclusions can we draw from these three examples? These three examples from Scriptures show that for those who remain entrapped in Satan’s deception, devices, and devious machinations of being ‘religious’, or, ‘of following their religion’ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), Satan deceives them through his ploys, deviousness, and falsehood, to misinterpret and misunderstand the "Law," and follow it incorrectly. For them, that Law only creates restlessness and lack of peace in their lives; he makes them spiritually blind and unable to understand God’s Word. Satan traps them in their own contrived notions of reverence and religiosity; and without their even realizing it. And then subtly, cleverly turns them into being contrary to the truths of God, blasphemers of God, and persecutors of those who actually follow the Lord. This is something we see happening rampantly all over the world today, no matter which “law” people claim to follow.

This leads to the obvious question; how can one identify whether or not they are in a right relationship with God? One major sign of people being entrapped by Satan is that these people do not have a sense of personally being in close relationship with God and of having His peace in their lives (John 14:27; 16:33). But as soon as a person comes into the right relationship with God through repentance and seeking forgiveness of his sins, i.e., being Born Again, automatically his outlook also changes, and his relationship with fellow humans also changes, and improves. His changed life bears open and clear testimony to the fact that he has now entered life - the eternal life promised by God to those who live by the Law i.e., by being in the right relationship with God and man. If for scholars of God’s Word and religious leaders like Nicodemus and Paul it was mandatory to repent and seek forgiveness of sins, and be Born Again to enter into this life, then you can see for yourself how necessary and imperative it is for us as well.

In the next article, we will begin looking at the utility of the Law for us today.  For now, if you are hoping to justify yourself by observing any sort of "law" — whether that of God, or of your religion, creed, community, or denomination — and are trying to make yourself acceptable to God by being ‘good’ through the works of the flesh and religion; then pay heed and understand that God's Word clearly states that you become righteous and acceptable to God, not by keeping the Law or any religion, but only by following the God given path of repentance and submission to the Lord. Therefore, while you have the time and the opportunity, take the right decision, decide on the right path, and leave the useless and fruitless path.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि यद्यपि रीति-रिवाजों और परंपराओं का पालन करना, या पर्व मनाना, या भेंट-बलिदान चढ़ाना परमेश्वर द्वारा मूसा में होकर इस्राएलियों को दी गई उसकी व्यवस्था में दिया गया है, किन्तु इनका मात्र रीति के अनुसार, औपचारिक निर्वाह वास्तव में व्यवस्था का पालन करना नहीं है। जैसा प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने कहा है, व्यवस्था परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार संबंधों को बनाना और निभाना है। परमेश्वर के साथ सही संबंध में होने और बने रहने का अर्थ उससे सारे मन, ध्यान, विचार, और धन से प्रेम करना तथा उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित रहना और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में रहना है, और साथ ही औरों से भी अपने ही समान प्रेम करना है (मत्ती 22:37-40)। जब परमेश्वर के साथ सम्बन्ध ठीक होगा, तो यह मनुष्यों के साथ भी सही सम्बन्ध बनाने और निभाने में भी प्रकट होगा। यही व्यवस्था का पालन है। प्रकट है कि इसमें किसी प्रकार की औपचारिकता का कोई स्थान नहीं है। 

औपचारिकता केवल वहीं होती है जहाँ व्यवस्था को रीति-रिवाजों और परंपराओं का पालन करना, या पर्व मनाना, या भेंट-बलिदान चढ़ाना मान लिया जाता है, और फिर निर्धारित समय पर निर्धारित विधि के अनुसार ये बातें पूरी कर दी जाती हैं, चाहे व्यक्ति की उन में कैसी और कितनी भी आस्था या श्रद्धा हो, या न हो। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा और समझा था कि चाहे पुराने नियम के लोग हों अथवा नए नियम के, जिन्होंने भी परमेश्वर के साथ सही सम्बन्ध बनाए, वे सभी उसे स्वीकार्य हुए, उन सभी ने जीवन में प्रवेश किया, जैसा परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में विभिन्न स्थानों पर आश्वस्त किया है कि व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा लोगों को जीवन में प्रवेश मिलेगा।

 

लेकिन व्यवस्था को उसके सही स्वरूप, अर्थात परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के साथ सही सम्बन्धों को बनाने और निभाने के लिए परमेश्वर के निर्देशों को मानने के स्थान पर, यदि व्यक्ति व्यवस्था को रीति-रिवाजों और परंपराओं का पालन करना, या निर्धारित पर्व मनाना, या स्थापित भेंट-बलिदान चढ़ाना आदि मानकर, और इनका भी सही मनसा रखते हुए निर्वाह नहीं करता है, तो यह उसके लिए बेचैनी और अशान्ति का कारण बन जाता है। हम इस बात को परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के नए नियम भाग में से तीन उदाहरणों से देखते हैं; इनमें से एक उदाहरण हम आज के लेख में देखेंगे, और शेष दो को अगले लेख में।

अनन्त जीवन में प्रवेश करने की लालसा रखने वाले एक धनी जवान अधिकारी से हुई प्रभु की बातचीत (मत्ती 19:16-22) से दो बातें स्पष्ट हैं; पहली बात तो यह कि वह अभी भी अपने जीवन में कुछ कमी अनुभव कर रहा था, यद्यपि वह व्यक्ति, अपनी दृष्टि और मानकों के अनुसार, बचपन से ही व्यवस्था का पालन करता आ रहा था। किन्तु प्रभु से किया गया उसका प्रश्न, और प्रभु के उत्तर को दिया गया उसका प्रत्युत्तर दिखाते हैं कि अपने अन्दर वह जानता था कि उसके द्वारा किए गए “व्यवस्था पालन” ने उसे परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं बनाया है, वह अभी भी अनन्त जीवन से दूर है। दूसरी बात, प्रभु द्वारा उसे दिए गए निर्देशों से यह प्रकट है कि उसका “व्यवस्था पालन” अधूरा था, और सही मनसा से नहीं था। ध्यान कीजिए, मत्ती 19:18-19 में प्रभु यीशु जिन आज्ञाओं के पालन की बात करता है, वे दस आज्ञाओं का भाग तो हैं, किन्तु इनमें पहली चार आज्ञाओं का, जो मनुष्यों के परमेश्वर के साथ संबंध के बारे में हैं, कोई उल्लेख नहीं है। और न ही उस व्यक्ति ने प्रभु से यह कहा कि वह न केवल प्रभु द्वारा कही जा रही छः आज्ञाओं का पालन करता आया है, वरन उन पहली चार आज्ञाओं का भी पालन करता आया है, जिनका उल्लेख प्रभु ने नहीं किया है। संकेत प्रकट है कि उस व्यक्ति के जीवन में इन पहली चार आज्ञाओं का उचित पालन था ही नहीं।

 

फिर इस वार्तालाप के अंत की ओर जब प्रभु उससे अपनी सारी संपत्ति बेचकर कंगालों में वितरित करने और प्रभु के पीछे हो लेने को कहता है, तब वह व्यक्ति यह नहीं कर सका (मत्ती 19:21-22)। अर्थात, वह न तो परमेश्वर से अपने सारे तन-मन-धन से प्रेम करता था और न ही मनुष्यों से प्रेम करता था। मनुष्यों से सम्बन्धों को सिखाने वाली आज्ञाओं के पालन के बावजूद, उस व्यक्ति में मनुष्यों के प्रति सच्चा प्रेम नहीं था। लेकिन उसके जीवन में सांसारिक लाभ और संपत्ति का लालच अवश्य था। जो दिखाता है कि वह संपूर्ण व्यवस्था का, सच्चे मन से, सही मनसा के साथ, पालन नहीं कर रहा था। इसी से प्रकट हो जाता है कि उसका “बचपन से आज्ञाओं को मानते चले आने” का दावा कितना खोखला था, एक औपचारिकता से अधिक कुछ नहीं था। अगले लेख में हम शेष दो उदाहरणों के बारे में देखेंगे।

Harmful Effects of Ritualistic Observation of the Law – 1

 

In the previous articles we have seen that although the observance of customs and traditions, or the celebration of festivals, or the offering of gifts and sacrifices were a part of God's Law given to the Israelites through Moses, but their merely ritualistic, formal observance is not actually observing the Law. As the Lord Jesus has said, observing the Law is the coming into and continuing in the right relationship with God and men, in the manner instructed by God. To be in, and to remain in the right relationship with God means to love Him with all your body, soul, and spirit, and your possessions as well; to be completely committed to Him, to be obedient to Him, and to love others as self as well (Matthew 22:37-40). When man’s relationship with God is right, it will also manifest in building and maintaining the right relationship with fellow human beings. This is what fulfilling the Law actually means. It is evident that there is no place for any kind of formal observances in this. 

Formal and ritualistic observances can only occur if the Law is assumed to be the observance of customs and traditions, or the celebration of a festival, or the offering of gifts and sacrifices. In that case, these things are carried out according to the prescribed procedure at the appointed time, regardless of the individual’s faith or belief in them, qualitatively or quantitatively. We have also seen and understood that whether it were the people of the Old Testament or of the New Testament, whoever came into a proper relationship with God in His prescribed manner, also became acceptable to Him, and they all entered life, just as God had assured that they would, at various places in His Word. That is to say that by fulfilling the Law people did get the entry into life, as is stated in God’s Word.

But if instead of accepting and obeying the Law, i.e., God's instructions to come into and maintain the right relationship with God and humans, in its right form, if one only observes it by perfunctorily fulfilling customs and traditions, or celebrating the prescribed festivals, or by offering the stated gifts and sacrifices, and does not maintain a right attitude even when doing that, then it leads to restlessness and a lack of peace in his life. We see this illustrated through three examples from the New Testament in God's Word, the Bible; of these three, we will look at one example today, and the other two in the next article.

Two things are clear from the Lord's conversation with the Rich Young Ruler who had come to the Lord seeking eternal life (Matthew 19:16-22). Firstly, although, according to his self-assessment and his own standards, he had been following the Law since his childhood, yet he still felt a serious lack of something in his life. His question to the Lord, and also his response to the Lord’s answer, show that he well knew within himself that his "keeping the Law" had not made him acceptable to God; he was still far from eternal life. Secondly, it is evident from the instructions given to him by the Lord that his "keeping the Law" was neither complete, nor done with the right attitude. Take note, the commandments that the Lord Jesus speaks of to him in Matthew 19:18-19, they are all a part of the Ten Commandments. But there is no mention here of the first four commandments, which are about man's relationship with God. Moreover, even he did not bother to inform the Lord that not only had he been following the six commandments that were stated by the Lord, but had also followed those first four commandments that the Lord had not mentioned. A clear indication that there was no proper observance of these first four commandments in that person's life. 

Then, towards the end of this conversation, when the Lord asks him to sell all his possessions, distribute his wealth to the poor, and follow the Lord, the man could not do it (Matthew 19:21-22). In other words, he neither loved God with all his body, mind and possessions, nor did he love men enough to care for them. Though he claimed to have obeyed the commandments that taught about relationships with fellow humans, the man did not have true love and concern for his fellow humans. But a compelling desire for worldly gains and wealth was definitely there in his life. All these things show that he was neither following the whole Law, nor whatever part he was following, was with sincerity, and the right attitude. This exposes the hollowness of his claim of "keeping the commandments from childhood"; and makes it evident that his claim was nothing more than living to fulfil a formality. In the next article we will consider the other two examples.
