    सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के बारे में विचार करते हुए हमने देखा है कि इन के दो अनिवार्य भाग हैं, पापों से पश्चाताप करने और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएं। सच्चे, पूरे मन से किए गए पश्चाताप का प्रमाण उस व्यक्ति के जीवन और व्यवहार में होने वाला परिवर्तन होता है, तथा साथ ही उसकी परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन में निरन्तर और बढ़ती हुई रुचि, और पापों से पश्चाताप की आवश्यकता को औरों तक पहुँचाने की लगन भी इसके प्रमाण होते हैं। हमने पश्चाताप करने वाले व्यक्ति में होने वाले इस परिवर्तन या बदलाव के कुछ पक्षों को देखा है, और सीखा है कि यद्यपि परमेश्वर यह अनिवार्यतः चाहता है कि व्यक्ति के जीवन में परिवर्तन आएँ, किन्तु इन परिवर्तनों को लाने के लिए व्यक्ति को स्वयं पहल करनी होती है, परिवर्तन को आरम्भ करना होता है। 

    हमने रोमियों 12:1-2 से देखा है कि विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के पास आना है, स्वेच्छा से अपने आप को “जीवित बलिदान” के समान उसे अर्पित करना है। जब व्यक्ति यह करता है तब परमेश्वर उसकी बुद्धि को नया कर देता है, उसे खोल देता है, ताकि वह उसके उद्धार पाने के समय से उसमें आ कर निवास कर रहे परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता से वचन के सत्यों को देख, समझ, और पालन सके। उस व्यक्ति को अपनी नई की हुई बुद्धि को, अपने जीवन में उसके अनुरूप परिवर्तनों के द्वारा प्रकट करना है, और निरन्तर एक ऐसा जीवन जीने में प्रयासरत रहना है जो परमेश्वर को महिमा देता रहता है। पिछले लेख में हम यहाँ पर आकर रुके थे कि बहुतेरे यह जीवन जीने में संकोच करते हैं, और इस कारण अपने जीवन में इन परिवर्तनों को कार्यान्वित करने में बहुत धीमे होते हैं। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि उनके व्यक्त नहीं किये हुए, अनकहे विचार यही होते हैं कि अपने जीवन को परिवर्तन करने और सँसार की बातों तथा आनन्द से अलग हटने के कड़े प्रयास, घोर परिश्रम, और अभ्यास उन्हें करने हैं, किन्तु सारी महिमा परमेश्वर को देनी है; और उन्हें यही प्रतीत होता है कि इसमें उनके लिए कुछ नहीं है। आज हम देखना आरम्भ करेंगे कि परमेश्वर ने उनके लिए क्या रख छोड़ा है जो अपने जीवन में इन बातों को लागू करने और अपने बदले हुए जीवन के द्वारा परमेश्वर को महिमा देने के प्रति गम्भीर रहते हैं।

    एक बहुधा कहा जाने वाला परमेश्वर का गुण है कि “परमेश्वर कभी किसी का कर्ज़दार नहीं रहता है।” यद्यपि यह परमेश्वर के वचन में कहीं लिखा हुआ नहीं है किन्तु परमेश्वर जो अपने लोगों के लिए करता रहता है, उससे बहुत स्पष्टता से प्रकट अवश्य है। इसका एक अच्छा उदाहरण है मरकुस 10:28-31; अर्थात प्रभु यीशु मसीह का पतरस को उत्तर, जब उसने पूछा कि सब कुछ छोड़ कर प्रभु के पीछे हो लेने के बदले उन्हें क्या मिलेगा “पतरस उस से कहने लगा, कि देख, हम तो सब कुछ छोड़कर तेरे पीछे हो लिये हैं। यीशु ने कहा, मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, कि ऐसा कोई नहीं, जिसने मेरे और सुसमाचार के लिये घर या भाइयों या बहिनों या माता या पिता या लड़के-बालों या खेतों को छोड़ दिया हो। और अब इस समय सौ गुणा न पाए, घरों और भाइयों और बहिनों और माताओं और लड़के-बालों और खेतों को पर उपद्रव के साथ और परलोक में अनन्त जीवन। पर बहुतेरे जो पहिले हैं, पिछले होंगे; और जो पिछले हैं, वे पहिले होंगे।” यहाँ पर प्रभु का यह उत्तर कि अभी यहाँ पृथ्वी पर सौ गुना, और आने वाले समय में अनन्त जीवन, उन लोगों के परेशान मनों को शांत करने के लिए काफी होना चाहिए जो यह सोचते हैं कि सारा प्रयास और त्याग तो वे कर रहे हैं, किन्तु उस से सारी महिमा परमेश्वर को जा रही है, और उन्हें संभवतः कुछ नहीं मिल रहा है।

    किन्तु जो लोग परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने पूर्ण समर्पण और बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए उसकी तथा उसके वचन की पूर्ण आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहते हैं और उससे परमेश्वर की महिमा करते हैं, उनके लिए परमेश्वर ने कुछ बहुत बड़ा निर्धारित किया हुआ है, कुछ ऐसा, मनुष्य अपने प्रयासों से जिसकी कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकता है। जो लोग उस पर पूरा भरोसा रखते हैं और विश्वास के साथ परमेश्वर की इच्छा को पूरा करने के लिए आगे कदम बढ़ाते हैं, उनके लिए परमेश्वर ने जो निर्धारित किया है उसके तीन भाग हैं। पहला, परमेश्वर उनके साथ एक प्रेमी पिता के समान रहना चाहता है। दूसरा, परमेश्वर उस व्यक्ति को सिद्ध बनाता और प्रत्येक भले कार्य के लिए भली-भान्ति तैयार करता है; उसे परिपक्व बनाता है कि वह मनुष्यों की चालाकियों द्वारा धोखा न खाने पाए। तीसरा, परमेश्वर उसे अपने पुत्र, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के स्वरूप और समानता में ढालना चाहता है।

    हम इन तीनों आशीषों को उनके सम्बन्धित बाइबल के हवालों के साथ एक-एक करके अगले लेख से देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 9

 

    While considering Biblical teachings related to the gospel, we have seen that its two essential components are the teachings related to repentance from sins, and to believing in the gospel. True heartfelt repentance is evidenced by a change in the life and behavior of the person who repents, along with his developing a lasting and growing interest in studying God’s Word, and sharing the necessity of repentance from sins with others. We have considered some aspects of the change that comes in a repentant person, and have learnt that though it is God who necessarily wants to see the change happening, but the repentant person has to take the initiative in beginning the change in his life. 

    We have seen from Romans 12:1-2 that the Believer must come to God, voluntarily offer himself as a “living sacrifice” to God. When a person does that, God renews his mind, opens it to enable it to see, understand, and obey His Word and its truths, through the help of the Holy Spirit residing in every Believer from the moment of his salvation. The person has to now show his renewed mind through bringing about the related necessary changes in his life, and continually strive to live a life that glorifies God. In the last article we stopped at the point that many feel reluctant to do this, and are often very slow in implementing the necessary changes. This is because their unstated or unexpressed thoughts are that while they go through the rigorous efforts and exercise of changing their lives and giving up on things and pleasures of this world, it is God who gets all the glory; and apparently there is nothing in this whole exercise for them. Today we will look at what God has in store for the person who is serious in implementing the changes in his life and glorifying God through his changed life.

    There is a commonly stated attribute of God, “God is no one’s debtor;” which although is not written in God’s Word, yet is quite evident from all that God does for His people. One good illustration of this is Mark 10:28-31; i.e., the Lord Jesus’s reply to Peter, when he asked him about what will they get in return for their having left everything for following Him “Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You." So, Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time--houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions--and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first."” The Lord’s answer here, of a hundredfold here, now on earth, and eternal life in the time to come, should set at rest the troubled minds of those who think that they are making all the efforts and sacrifices, but all the glory is being given to God, and they are being left without anything.

    But what God has in mind for those who glorify Him through their complete submission and unquestioning obedience to Him and His Word is something far greater, something that man can never imagine to achieve through any of his efforts. There are three components to what God has in mind for those who trust Him and step out in faith, to do God’s bidding. Firstly, God wants to live and be with them like a loving Father. Secondly, God wants to make this person complete and thoroughly prepared for every good work; make him mature so that he cannot be deceived by the trickery of men. Thirdly, God wants to conform them into the image of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    We will start considering these three blessings one by one, along with their relevant Biblical references, from the next article.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पवित्र आत्मा और सँसार – 3

प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, उसे परमेश्वर द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाए गए सँसाधनों का भण्डारी भी है। परमेश्वर ने ये सँसाधन उसे प्रभु यीशु के लिए गवाही का जीवन जीने  और परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई को निभाने के लिए दिए हैं। जैसा प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से प्रतिज्ञा की है (यूहन्ना 14:16), परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा भी मसीह के शिष्यों को परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिया जाता है। विश्वासी जिस पल प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा नया-जन्म, अर्थात् उद्धार पाता है, उसी पल से पवित्र आत्मा उसे दे दिया जाता है, कि उसका सहायक, शिक्षक, और मार्गदर्शक हो, मसीही जीवन जीने और उसकी सेवकाई को पूरा करने में उसकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन करे। पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता और मार्गदर्शन का योग्य रीति से उपयोग करने के लिए, और उसका योग्य भण्डारी होने के लिये, विश्वासी को उस के बारे में सीखना आवश्यक है। पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में मुख्य शिक्षाएँ प्रभु द्वारा यूहन्ना रचित सुसमाचार के 14 से 16 अध्याय में दी गई हैं; और हम उन्हीं में से, वर्तमान में यूहन्ना 14:17 से सीख रहे हैं।

पिछले लेख में हमने पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता के बारे में इस पद से दो महत्वपूर्ण बातों को देखा था। पहली थी कि इस पद के मध्य में दिए गए शब्द “देखता” का अर्थ शारीरिक आँखों से देखना नहीं है; वरन उसका अर्थ है उद्यम के साथ विचार करना या गंभीरता और गहराई से ध्यान करना। दूसरा है कि पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति के बारे में जानने के लिए, यूहन्ना 3:8 में प्रभु यीशु के अपने शब्दों से, पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति और गतिविधि का प्रमाण है उसके प्रभाव जो वह विश्वासी के जीवन में लाता है। हम ने उन में से एक प्रभाव को 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18 से पिछले लेख में देखा था, कि वह विश्वासी को अंश-अंश करके निरन्तर प्रभु यीशु की समानता में बदलता रहता है। आज हम विश्वासियों में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति के कुछ अन्य प्रभावों को देखेंगे जो यह प्रमाणित करते हैं कि विश्वासी में पवित्र आत्मा है। हम बहुत ही संक्षेप में यह देखने के साथ आरंभ करेंगे कि क्यों बहुधा प्रचार की जाने वाली और सिखाई जाने वाली धारणा के विपरीत “अन्य-भाषाएँ” पवित्र आत्मा के होने का प्रमाण नहीं है।

अन्य-भाषाएँ प्रमाण नहीं है: जो लोग पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में गलत शिक्षाएँ और सिद्धान्त सिखाते हैं, वे इस बात पर अड़े रहते हैं कि व्यक्ति में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति होने का प्रमाण उस व्यक्ति के द्वारा अन्य-भाषा बोलना है। लेकिन यह दो कारणों से बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है:

 

पहला, क्योंकि बाइबल में उल्लेख की गई “अन्य-भाषाएँ” पृथ्वी की ही भाषाएँ हैं, न कि उन लोगों के द्वारा मुँह से बारम्बार दोहराते हुए निकाली जाने वाली व्यर्थ और निरर्थक ध्वनियाँ, जिन्हें निकाल कर ये उन ध्वनियों को स्वर्गीय, या, “अन्य-भाषा” कह देते हैं। इन “अन्य-भाषाओं” का पहला उल्लेख प्रेरितों 2:4 में है, जब प्रभु के शिष्यों को पवित्र आत्मा दिया जाता है, और साथ ही वे “अन्य-भाषाएँ” भी बोलने लगते हैं। साथ ही प्रेरितों 2:5,6, 11 में यह भी कहा गया है कि ये “अन्य-भाषाएँ” पृथ्वी के ही अन्य क्षेत्रों की भाषाएँ ही थीं। और, प्रेरितों 2:8-10 में यहूदिया के अतिरिक्त, 15 अन्य स्थानों और क्षेत्रों का नाम दिया गया है, जहाँ के लोग उस समय यरूशलेम में विद्यमान थे, और वे शिष्यों के पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के गवाह थे। परन्तु जो लोग यह दावा करते हैं कि “अन्य-भाषाएँ” स्वर्गीय भाषाएँ हैं, वे कभी अपने इस दावे को बाइबल से प्रमाणित नहीं कर पाए हैं, बाइबल से कभी यह नहीं दिखा पाएँ हैं कि उनके मुँह से निकलने वाली ये निरर्थक ध्वनियाँ स्वर्गीय भाषाएँ हैं। और न ही वे कभी किसी उचित और स्वीकार्य कारण के आधार पर यह समझाने पाएँ हैं कि पृथ्वी के लोगों को, पृथ्वी के ही अन्य लोगों के मध्य, अपनी सेवकाई के लिये, स्वर्गीय भाषाओं की अनिवार्यता क्यों है? वे मन-गढ़न्त तर्क तो देते हैं, किन्तु उनका किसी भी तर्क का बाइबल से कोई प्रमाण नहीं है; केवल मानवीय बुद्धि की गढ़ी हुई बातें ही हैं।

 

और, दूसरा, बाइबल में जिस ने भी पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त किया, उन सभी ने हमेशा ही कोई उन्हें अज्ञात भाषा नहीं बोली – पृथ्वी की कोई अनजान भाषा भी नहीं। पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से कार्य करने वाले पुराने नियम के किसी भी जन ने कभी कोई अन्य-भाषा नहीं बोली। और नए नियम में, पवित्र आत्मा पाए हुए और उसकी सामर्थ्य से भरे गए पहले पाँच व्यक्तियों ने कभी कोई अन्य-भाषा नहीं बोली; इनमें से चार व्यक्ति लूका रचित सुसमाचार के 1 अध्याय में, और पाँचवाँ  लूका रचित सुसमाचार के 2 अध्याय में उल्लेखित हैं. ये व्यक्ति हैं: यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाला, लूका 1:15; प्रभु यीशु की माता मरियम, लूका 1:35; यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले की माता इलीशिबा, लूका 1:41-42; यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले का पिता जकरयाह, लूका 1:67; और शमौन, लूका 2:25-32।

इसलिये यह दावा करना गलत है कि बाइबल में जिसने भी पवित्र आत्मा पाया, उसने अन्य-भाषाओं में अवश्य ही बातें भी कीं।

 

पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति जानना: किसी व्यक्ति के जीवन में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति, उसके जीवन में निरन्तर दिखते रहने वाले पवित्र आत्मा के प्रभावों से प्रमाणित होती है। ये प्रभाव हैं:

• 1 कुरिन्थियों  12:3 यह स्पष्ट कहता है कि “...और न कोई पवित्र आत्मा के बिना कह सकता है कि यीशु प्रभु है।” यह पत्री मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखी गई है, उन्हें, जिन्होंने मसीह यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता और प्रभु स्वीकार किया है। इसलिए इस कथन में यह तात्पर्य निहित है कि यहाँ प्रयुक्त ‘कह सकता’ का अभिप्राय केवल सुनाने भर के लिए मुँह से निरर्थक बोल देना नहीं है, वरन सार्थक रीति और गंभीरता से यीशु को अपना प्रभु मानने और कहने से है; अर्थात उसे समर्पित होने और उसका आज्ञाकारी होने से है। दूसरे शब्दों में, जिन लोगों के जीवन प्रभु यीशु के प्रति उन लोगों के समर्पण और प्रभु के आज्ञाकारी होने को दिखाते हैं, वह उन के अंदर पवित्र आत्मा के निवास करने का प्रमाणित करता है।
• 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18 में लिखा है कि वह निरन्तर, अंश-अंश कर के विश्वासी को प्रभु यीशु की समानता में बदलता रहता है, जैसा कि हम पिछले लेख में देख चुके हैं। इसलिये, व्यक्ति के जीवन में निरन्तर मसीह की समानता में ढलते और बढ़ते चले जाने से उसमें पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति प्रमाणित होती है। 
• 1 यूहन्ना 2:27 में लिखा है कि पवित्र आत्मा, शिक्षक होने के नाते विश्वासियों को परमेश्वर का वचन सिखाता है, जैसा कि प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से पवित्र आत्मा के विषय कहा है, “...वह तुम्हें सब बातें सिखाएगा, और जो कुछ मैं ने तुम से कहा है, वह सब तुम्हें स्मरण कराएगा” (यूहन्ना 14:26)। इसलिए वास्तव में नया जन्म पाया हुआ विश्वासी, वचन सीखने के लिए पवित्र आत्मा पर निर्भर करता है, न कि किसी मनुष्य पर। और उसका परमेश्वर के वचन को समझने और पालन करने में निरन्तर बढ़ते चले जाना प्रमाणित करता है कि पवित्र आत्मा उसमें है और कार्यरत है। 

लेकिन पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने के लिए मसीही विश्वासी में एक प्रतिबद्धता और एक विशेष रवैया चाहिए होता है। हम इस के बारे में अगले लेख में और आगे देखेंगे, और सीखेंगे कि मसीही विश्वासी पवित्र आत्मा से वचन को कैसे सीख सकते हैं।

Holy Spirit & The World – 3

 

Every Born-Again Christian Believer is a steward of the provisions made available to him by God, to live a life witnessing for the Lord Jesus and fulfil his God assigned ministry. As promised by the Lord Jesus to His disciples (John 14:16), God the Holy Spirit is also given to the disciples of Christ by God. The Believer at the moment of his being saved, being Born-Again through coming to faith in the Lord Jesus receives the Holy Spirit; given to be his Helper, Teacher, and Guide, to help and guide him for living his Christian life and fulfilling his ministry. To be able to worthily utilize the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to be a worthy steward, the Believer must learn about Him. The main teachings about the Holy Spirit are given by the Lord Jesus in John’s gospel, chapters 14 to 16; from these we are presently considering John 14:17.

In the last article we had seen two important things regarding utilizing the help of the Holy Spirit, from this verse. One was that the term ‘to see’ given in the middle phrase of this verse, does not mean seeing with physical eyes; rather, it means to diligently ponder about or consider deeply about. The second was that to know about the Holy Spirit being present, from the Lord Jesus’s own words of John 3:8, we understood that the proof of the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit are the effects He produces in the Believers' life. We had seen one of these effects from 2 Corinthians 3:18, that He gradually, bit by bit, keeps changing the Believer into the likeness of the Lord Jesus continually. Today, we will continue and look at the other effects that evidence the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Believers. We will start by very briefly, considering why, unlike the popular and often preached and taught notion, ‘tongues’ is not an evidence of the Holy Spirit.

Tongues are not the Proof: Those who teach wrong things and doctrines about the Holy Spirit, insist that the proof of the Holy Spirit being present in a person is the person's speaking in tongues. But this is not Biblically true for two reasons: 

Firstly, because Biblical "tongues'' are earthly languages, not gibberish - vain meaningless sounds which these people repetitively utter, calling them heavenly languages, or "tongues''. The “tongues,” are first mentioned in Acts 2:4 with the disciples of the Lord receiving the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. It has also been stated in Acts 2:5, 6, 11, that these “tongues” were earthly languages of foreign lands. And, in Acts 2:8-10, besides Jews from Judea, 15 other places and regions are mentioned whose people were present in Jerusalem and witnessed the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit. But the people who claim that “tongues” implies heavenly languages, have never shown or proven from the Bible that the gibberish they utter are heavenly languages. Nor have they been able to give any Biblically tenable reason for earthly people, for their ministry on earth, having the necessity of speaking any heavenly languages. They give contrived arguments, but none of their arguments can be proven by the Bible; all their notions are based only on human understanding.

And, secondly, not everyone who received the Holy Spirit in The Bible, spoke in tongues, i.e., languages unknown to him – not even the earthly languages. No one in the Old Testament, though empowered by the Holy Spirit, ever spoke in any kind of “tongues.” And, the first five persons filled and having the Holy Spirit in them, in the New Testament, never ever spoke in tongues. Of these, four are mentioned in Luke chapter 1, and one is mentioned in chapter Luke 2. They are: (John the Baptist, Luke 1:15; Mary mother of Lord Jesus, Luke 1:35; Elizabeth mother of John the Baptist, Luke 1:41-42; Zacharias father of John the Baptist, Luke 1:67; Simeon, Luke 2:25-32. Therefore, it is incorrect to claim that in the Bible, whoever had the Holy Spirit, also did speak in “tongues.”

Knowing the Presence of the Holy Spirit: The continual effects of the Holy Spirit in the life of a person, are the proof of presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of that person. These effects are:

• 1 Corinthians 12:3 clearly says that “…no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.” This letter has been written to the Christian Believers, to those who have accepted Christ Jesus as their savior and Lord. Therefore, the inherent implication of the word ‘saying’ used here is not just for the sake of articulating the word meaninglessly, but to meaningfully call Jesus as Lord, i.e., to actually and practically be submitted and obedient to Him. So, those whose lives demonstrate their submission and obedience to the Lord Jesus, they by their lives demonstrate the presence of the Holy Spirit residing within them.

• 2 Corinthians 3:18 says that the Holy Spirit progressively keeps changing the Believers into the likeness of the Lord, as we have already seen in the last article. So, a continual, progressive change of a person into Christ-likeness, is another effect, another proof of the Holy Spirit residing and working in a person. 

• 1 John 2:27 says that the Holy Spirit, as teacher, teaches the Believers the Word of God; as the Lord Jesus has said to His disciples that the Holy Spirit “…will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). The truly Born-Again Believer therefore depends upon the Holy Spirit, not any man, to learn the Word of God. And his progressive growth in understanding and following God’s Word is proof of the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in Him.

But learning from the Holy Spirit requires a certain attitude and commitment from the Believer. We will carry on and learn about this in the next article and see how Believers can learn God’s Word from the Holy Spirit.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

हम पौलुस के जीवन और उदाहरणों से परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उस से व्यवहार के बारे में सीखते आ रहे हैं, और हाल ही में हमने इसके लिए 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 से देखना आरम्भ किया है। पद 1 को देख लेने के बाद, पिछले कुछ लेखों से हमने पद 2 को देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने पहले यह देखा है कि इस पद में पौलुस अपनी परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई के तीन गुण तथा उस सेवकाई के उद्देश्य बताता है। पिछले लेखों में हम उद्देश्यों को देख चुके हैं, और आज से गुणों के बारे में देखना आरम्भ करेंगे। इस पद में दिए गए पौलुस की सेवकाई के तीन गुण हैं:

• लज्जा के गुप्त कामों को त्यागना

• चतुराई से न चलना

• परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट नहीं करना

अपने तथा अपने सह-कर्मियों के बारे में जो पहला गुण पौलुस यहाँ पर लिखता है, वह है, “हम ने लज्ज़ा के गुप्‍त कामों को त्याग दिया।” इस कथन की तुलना उस से कीजिए जो पौलुस ने अपने मसीही विश्वास में आने से पहले के जीवन के सन्दर्भ में अपने बारे में कहा था, जब वह एक बहुत उत्साही फरीसी, पवित्र शास्त्र – जो हमारा पुराना नियम है, का ज्ञानी था और उस के बारे में अपनी ही समझ के अनुसार काम करता था, “पर मैं तो शरीर पर भी भरोसा रख सकता हूं यदि किसी और को शरीर पर भरोसा रखने का विचार हो, तो मैं उस से भी बढ़कर रख सकता हूं। आठवें दिन मेरा खतना हुआ, इस्राएल के वंश, और बिन्यामीन के गोत्र का हूं; इब्रानियों का इब्रानी हूं; व्यवस्था के विषय में यदि कहो तो फरीसी हूं। उत्‍साह के विषय में यदि कहो तो कलीसिया का सताने वाला; और व्यवस्था की धामिर्कता के विषय में यदि कहो तो निर्दोष था” (फिलिप्पियों 3:4-6; साथ ही प्रेरितों 26:4-5 भी देखिए)। हम पौलुस के इस कथन से देखते हैं कि उसकी पृष्ठभूमि और उसकी योग्यताएँ सभी को अच्छे से पता थीं, लोग भली-भाँति जानते थे कि उसकी धार्मिकता के व्यवहार के आधार पर उसमें कुछ कमी नहीं थी, किसी भी बात के लिए उसकी आलोचना नहीं की जा सकती थी।

 

प्रभु यीशु मसीह को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण कर लेने के बाद, उसने तुरंत ही प्रभु यीशु के परमेश्वर का पुत्र होने, प्रतिज्ञा किया हुआ मसीहा होने का प्रचार करना आरम्भ कर दिया था (प्रेरितों 9:20, 27, 29), और अब यह बात भी वह उसी पवित्र शास्त्र ही से प्रचार करता था (प्रेरितों 17:2), जिसके आधार पर पहले विरोध करता और सताता था। दूसरे शब्दों में, उसके परिवर्तन से पहले और बाद में, पौलुस के जीवन में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं था जो लोगों या समाज से छुपा हुआ हो, अनैतिक हो, सामाजिक दृष्टिकोण से अस्वीकार्य अथवा किसी भी रीति से आलोचना के योग्य हो। लेकिन फिर भी  यहाँ 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:2 में, पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई के विषय जो पहला गुण कहता है, वह है कि उसने लज्जा के गुप्त कामों को छोड़ दिया है! पौलुस के अपने विषय इन दोनों परस्पर विरोधाभासी प्रतीत होने वाले कथनों में हम सामंजस्य किस तरह से बैठा सकते हैं?

इस प्रतीत होने वाले विरोधाभास या त्रुटि को समझने और सामंजस्य बैठाने की कुंजी है फिलिप्पियों 3:4 का आरंभिक वाक्य “मैं तो शरीर पर भी भरोसा रख सकता हूँ।” प्रभु में विश्वास में आने और उसे अपना व्यक्तिगत उद्धारकर्ता और प्रभु ग्रहण करने से पहले, पौलुस का उत्साह और कार्य उसके ‘शरीर के कामों’ पर, अर्थात उसकी अपनी योग्यताओं, शिक्षा, पृष्ठभूमि, तथा अन्य मनुष्यों – धार्मिक अगुवों से उसे मिलने वाले समर्थन और पुष्टि पर आधारित थे। जो उसने सीखा था और जो उसे सही लगता था, उसके आधार पर वह वही करता था जो उसे उचित और करने योग्य लगता था, यह समझते और मानते हुए कि उसका किया हुआ परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में भी सही और उसे भी स्वीकार्य होगा। पौलुस ने यह माना है कि उसकी इन उन्मादी उत्साह और अनुचित प्रवृत्तियों ने उसे प्रभु का विरोधी और प्रभु के लोगों को सताने वाला, उनके विरुद्ध क्रोध में पागल सा, निन्दा और अंधेर करने वाला बना दिया था (प्रेरितों 26:9-11; 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:9; फिलिप्पियों 3:6; 1 तीमुथियुस 1:13)। प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास में आने के बाद, उसकी यह अपने ‘शरीर’, अर्थात उसकी अपनी इच्छा और समझ के अनुसार, तथा उसकी अपनी दृष्टि में सही अथवा गलत होने के आधार पर काम करने की मानसिकता तुरन्त बदल गई। वह विनम्र, प्रभु को पूर्णतः समर्पित और वह हर बात के लिये मनुष्यों का नहीं वरन् पूर्णतः प्रभु का आज्ञाकारी बन गया (प्रेरितों 9:5-6; 26:19)। अर्थात्, जो कुछ भी प्रभु कहे केवल वही करने वाला, चाहे उसकी कोई भी कीमत क्यों न हो (प्रेरितों 9:15-16)। यहाँ तक कि उसमें आए इस परिवर्तन के कारण वही धार्मिक अगुवे जो उसका समर्थन करते थे, उसे उपयोग करते थे, अब उसके विरोधी और उसकी जान के दुश्मन बन गये; परन्तु पौलुस न तो उनसे डरा, न सबके सामने सत्य बोलने से हिचकिचाया या कतराया, और न ही वचन के अनुसार सही बात को बताने, सिखाने, प्रचार करने से पीछे हटा (प्रेरितों 26:6, 19-22)।

 

उसके इस पहले के “शरीर में भरोसा रखने”, और उसकी इस प्रवृत्ति के उसके व्यवहार में प्रकट होने के कारण वह अपने आप को सब प्रेरितों में सबसे छोटा, बल्कि प्रेरित कहलाने के भी योग्य भी नहीं समझता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:8-9); वरन्, अपने आप को ‘पापियों में सबसे बड़ा’ (1 तीमुथियुस 1:15) कहता था। इस बात पर भी ध्यान दीजिए कि पौलुस का यह घमण्ड, उसका उग्र होना, और इस प्रकार की अन्य सभी बातें उसके अन्दर की उन त्रुटियों का ही बाहरी प्रकटीकरण थीं, जिन्हें लिये हुए वह जीवन जी रहा था। प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास में आने और प्रभु को समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी बनते ही, उसके अन्दर की त्रुटियों के ठीक होते ही, उसके बाहर का व्यवहार, यानी कि अन्दर की त्रुटियों का बाहरी प्रकटीकरण भी स्वतः ही ठीक हो गया। इसीलिए, पौलुस उन्हें “लज्ज़ा के गुप्‍त काम” कहता है - लोगों के सामने वह भला और निर्दोष था। परन्तु अन्दर की उन त्रुटियों ने जो बाहर व्यवहार में समस्याएँ खड़ी करती हैं, उसे स्वयं अपने तथा औरों के लिये भी विकट समस्या बना रखा था। जब उसका ‘छुपा हुआ’ ठीक हुआ, तो उसका ‘प्रकट’ भी ठीक हो गया। 

पौलुस ने मसीह यीशु में विश्वास में आते ही, इन्हीं “लज्ज़ा के गुप्‍त कामों” को तुरन्त ही त्याग दिया। पौलुस ने अपने ‘शरीर में भरोसा’ करने को, अर्थात, अपनी ही समझ और बुद्धि के अनुसार निर्णय लेने, अपनी योग्यताओं और शिक्षा के अनुसार कार्य करने को; मनुष्यों के दर्जे के आधार पर उनका अनुसरण करने, उनकी कही बातों को मान लेने को त्याग दिया। उसने अपने घमण्ड और दूसरों पर हावी होने की जीवन शैली को त्याग दिया; वह विनम्र और धैर्य रखने वाला बन गया, परमेश्वर के अन्य संतानों की कमियों और गलतियों के साथ धैर्य से व्यवहार करने वाला, उनको धीरज के साथ सुधारने वाला बन गया। यदि अन्य विश्वासी उन से रखी गई आशाओं पर पूरे नहीं उतरते थे या प्रभु के पीछे सही रीति से नहीं चलते थे तो अब वह उनके पीछे डंडा लेकर नहीं पड़ता था, न ही उन्हें अपने से दूर करता था, या अपने आप को उन से दूर कर लेता था। वह प्रभु की इच्छा का आज्ञाकारी बन गया, प्रभु से जानने वाला कि क्या कहना है, किस से कहना है, कब और कहाँ पर कहना है, बजाए अपनी सेवकाई को अपनी ही समझ और इच्छा के अनुसार करने वाला। अब वह प्रेम, क्षमा, और मेल-मिलाप का केवल प्रचार नहीं करता था; वरन् सक्रिय होकर विभाजन की दीवारों को खड़ी करने के स्थान पर उन दीवारों को गिराने और व्यावहारिक एक-मनता को लाने के प्रयास किया करता था, केवल उसका प्रचार ही नहीं करता था। 

हम पौलुस से सीखते हैं कि परमेश्वर के वचन के सेवक में यह पहला गुण होना चाहिए – वह अपने शरीर पर किसी भी बात में कोई भी भरोसा नहीं रखे; वरन विनम्र, धीरजवंत, विलम्ब से क्रोध करने वाला, और जो सेवकाई परमेश्वर उस से चाहता है, उसके विषय परमेश्वर पर पूर्ण रीति से निर्भर और आज्ञाकारी रहने वाला हो। पतरस ने भी यही बात 1 पतरस 2:1-2 में कही है, वचन के निर्मल दूध की लालसा रखने और उसके द्वारा बढ़ने के लिए सबसे पहले हर प्रकार का बैर भाव, छल, कपट, डाह, और बदनामी को त्यागना है – पहले एक भीतरी परिवर्तन आना है, और तब यह परिवर्तन बाहर के व्यवहार में प्रकट होगा।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 21

 

We have been learning from the examples and life of Paul about utilizing God’s Word and handling it, and of late have started considering 2 Corinthians 4:1-5 for this. Having seen verse 1, we are now on verse 2 for the past few articles. We saw earlier that in this verse, Paul states three characteristics, and the purposes of his ministry of God’s Word. We have seen the purposes in the previous articles, and will look into the characteristics from today. The three characteristics of Paul’s ministry, as given in this verse are:

• Having renounced the hidden things of shame

• Not walking in craftiness

• Not handling the Word of God deceitfully

The first characteristic that Paul states about himself and his co-workers is, “we have renounced the hidden things of shame”. Compare this with what Paul says about himself, in context of his life before coming to faith in Christ, when he lived and functioned as a very zealous Pharisee, learned in the Scriptures – our present-day Old Testament, doing things according to his own understanding of the Scriptures, “though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless” (Philippians 3:4-6; also see Acts 26:4-5). We see from this statement of Paul that his background and qualifications were well known to all, people knew very well that on the grounds of his religiosity, he was faultless and beyond any criticism. 

Having accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior, he immediately started preaching about Him being the Son of God, the promised Messiah (Acts 9:20, 27, 29), and his preaching this was also from the same Scriptures (Acts 17:2), that were the basis of his opposing and persecuting earlier. In other words, before and after his conversion, there was nothing in Paul’s life that was hidden from society, was immoral, or was socially unacceptable, or was worthy of criticism in any manner. And yet, here, in 2 Corinthians 4:2, the first characteristic that he states about his ministry is that he has renounced the hidden things of shame! How can we reconcile these two seemingly contradictory statements of Paul about himself?

The key to reconciling and understanding this apparent discrepancy or contradiction is in the beginning of Philippians 3:4, “though I also might have confidence in the flesh.” Before coming to faith in the Lord and accepting Him as his savior and Lord, Paul’s zeal and works were based on his ‘works of the flesh’, i.e., his own abilities, education, background, and support from other men – the acceptance and affirmation he had from the religious authorities. Based on what he thought and had been taught as being correct, he did what seemed appropriate and worthwhile to him, and he even presumed that it would be right and acceptable in the sight of God as well. Paul admits that his misguided zeal and inappropriate tendencies had made him an opponent of the Lord Jesus and a persecutor of the Lord’s people, making him exceedingly enraged against them, a blasphemer and an insolent person (Acts 26:9-11; 1 Corinthians 15:9; Philippians 3:6; 1 Timothy 1:13). After coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, this mentality of doing things according to his own ‘flesh’, i.e., according to his own will and understanding, his own concepts of right and wrong, immediately changed. Paul became humble, submissive, and fully obedient not any person but only to the Lord (Acts 9:5-6; 26:19). In other words, willing to do whatever the Lord had set for him, asked him to say or do, at whatever cost it may be (Acts 9:15-16). So much so, that because of this change that had come in him, those religious leaders who used to support him, use him, now became his opponents, wanting to kill him; but Paul did not fear them, never hesitated or vacillated in speaking the truth before everyone, nor did he ever step back from telling, teachings, and preaching that which was Scripturally correct (Acts 26:6, 19-22).

Because of his this former “confidence in the flesh” and its manifestations in his behavior, he considered himself to be the least of the Apostles, not even worthy of being called and Apostle (1 Corinthians 15:8-9), and called himself the ‘chief of sinners’ (1 Timothy 1:15). Notice also that Paul’s arrogance, aggression, and other such actions were the external manifestation of the internal errors he was living with. Once his internal situation got corrected through coming to faith in the Lord, becoming submissive and obedient to Him, the external manifestations of the internal problems also automatically got corrected. Therefore, Paul calls them the ‘hidden things of shame’ - he was good and beyond reproach before the people. But the internal unseen short-comings that created the problems in his outside behavior, had made him a severe problem for himself, as well as others. When his ‘hidden’ got corrected, the ‘evident’ also got corrected automatically.

These are the ‘hidden things of shame’ that Paul straightaway renounced on coming to faith in Christ Jesus. Paul gave up his ‘confidence in the flesh’, i.e., on relying on his own judgments and decisions based on his own abilities and education; on following men and their teachings for their stature. Paul gave up his arrogance and imposing lifestyle; he became humble and longsuffering, patiently putting up with the faults and shortcomings in God’s children and gently correcting them, instead of going after them with a stick, or casting them away, or separating himself from them when they fell short of his expectations, or in their following the Lord in any way. He became obedient to the will of the Lord, seeking and learning from the Lord what to say, to whom to say, when and where to say instead of doing his ministry the way he felt it ought to be done. Now, he did not only speak and preach about love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Rather, he actively became engaged in bringing down the walls of separation instead of building them up, and labored to bring about practical unity instead of just preaching about it.

We learn from Paul that this then is the first characteristic that a minister of God’s Word should have – put away all confidence of the flesh; and be humble, patient, longsuffering; become completely obedient to the Lord for the ministry that God wants him to do. Peter too said the same in 1 Peter 2:1-2; i.e., to desire and grow by the pure milk of the Word, one has to first put aside all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking – an internal change has to come first, which will then manifest as changed behavior externally.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
