    पिछले लेख में, परमेश्वर को रिस दिलाने को समझने के लिए हमने देखा था कि सृष्टि में केवल दो ही शक्तियाँ हैं - पहली सृष्टीकर्ता परमेश्वर, और दूसरी परमेश्वर का बैरी और विद्रोही शैतान। जो लोग स्वेच्छा से परमेश्वर के साथ हो लेने का निर्णय नहीं लेते हैं, वे स्वतः ही शैतान के साथ जुड़ जाते हैं, क्योंकि इन दोनों शक्तियों के अतिरिक्त और कोई विकल्प या तटस्थ स्थान नहीं है। दूसरे शब्दों में, जिसने परमेश्वर के साथ होने से इनकार कर दिया है, उसने शैतान के समान ही परमेश्वर से बैर किया है, उसका विरोध किया है, और इसलिये शैतान का साथी बन गया है। परमेश्वर अपने विश्वासियों, अपनी सन्तानों से बहुत प्रेम करता है; और नहीं चाहता है कि वे शैतान की बातों में आकर हानि उठाएँ। इसलिये, यदि कोई विश्वासी परमेश्वर से दूर जाने लगता है, और समझाने तथा चेतावनी देने के बाद भी नहीं सुधरता है, तो परमेश्वर उसे सही मार्ग पर लाने के लिये उसकी उपयुक्त ताड़ना भी करता है। परन्तु परमेश्वर एक बार जिसे अपनी सन्तान बना लेता है, उसे फिर अपने पास से कभी अलग नहीं करता है, न होने देता है। आज हम इसी बात को थोड़ा और देखेंगे तथा समझेंगे।

    इसे एक पारिवारिक स्थिति के समान समझिये, जहाँ एक परिवार का एक बच्चा माता-पिता के प्रति अनाज्ञाकारी रहता है, अपने व्यवहार को नहीं सुधारता है, उनसे उसे दिए जाने वाले निर्देशों का पालन नहीं करता है, और अपने व्यवहार के द्वारा परिवार के नाम को खराब कर रहा है। यदि यह बच्चा माता-पिता की मौखिक चेतावनियों और डाँट को नहीं सुनता और मानता है, तो उसके प्रति अपने प्रेम में होकर, और उसे भविष्य में किसी बड़ी हानि या बुराई से बचाने के लिए, उन्हें दृढ़ता के साथ कार्यवाही करनी पड़ती है, और उसकी ताड़ना भी करनी पड़ती है। उनकी ताड़ना उसके प्रति उनके प्रेम और देख-भाल का प्रमाण है, उस पर उनके हक का तथा उस हक को कार्यान्वित करने का प्रमाण है, और उस बच्चे को वापस परिवार की सुरक्षा तथा देख-रेख में ले लेने के लिए है। परमेश्वर ने यही बात इब्रानियों 12:5-11 में भी कही है। इसलिए प्रभु का रिस के अन्तर्गत कार्य करना उस सांसारिक रीति से कार्य करना नहीं है, जैसा कि हम सामान्यतः समझते हैं। वरन, यह उसके प्रेम और देखभाल का चिन्ह है, अपने लोगों को शैतान की युक्तियों से सुरक्षित रखने के लिए की गई कार्यवाही है। अब हम प्रभु को “रिस दिलाने” को समझ सकते हैं कि यह परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने असीम प्रेम के अमूल्य पात्र की देख-भाल और सुरक्षा के लिए उकसाए जाकर, उसे लौटा कर अपने पास ले आने के लिए किया जाने वाला कार्य है। अपने बच्चे को अपने पास सुरक्षित रखने के लिए परमेश्वर को जो कुछ भी करना होगा, वह करेगा (1 कुरिन्थियों 5:5), चाहे वर्तमान में उसकी कार्यवाही कठोर और दुखदायी ही क्यों न हो।

    पौलुस एक आलंकारिक प्रश्न “क्या हम उस से शक्तिमान हैं?” के साथ निष्कर्ष को समाप्त करता है। कहने का अभिप्राय है कि क्योंकि कोई भी सृजा हुआ जन, सृजनहार परमेश्वर से बढ़कर सामर्थी नहीं हो सकता है, इसलिए सृजे हुए को सृजनहार प्रभु परमेश्वर की अधीनता और आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहना है; बजाए इसके कि वह अपने ही विचार और धारणाएँ बनाकर रहे, और उन्हें तथा अपने आप को परमेश्वर पर थोपे। दूसरे शब्दों में, पौलुस कह रहा था कि परमेश्वर की अधीनता और आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने में ही हमारी भलाई है; न कि अपनी ही इच्छा और समझ के अनुसार कुछ करने और फिर उसके दुष्परिणाम उठाने के द्वारा।

    इसलिए, प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने का निष्कर्ष है कि प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाले पर यह बाध्य है कि वह संसार और सांसारिकता की बातों से अलग होकर रहे, अन्यथा परमेश्वर के अनाज्ञाकारी होने के लिए परमेश्वर की ताड़ना सहने के लिए तैयार रहे।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए – उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

    In the previous article, to understand about God’s jealousy, we had seen that there are only two powers in the universe. The first is the Creator God, and the second is God’s opponent, rebellious Satan. The people who do not voluntarily decide to be with God, they automatically join with Satan, since other than these two, there is no other option, there is no neutral ground. In other words, those who refuse to join with God, like Satan, they have opposed God, have rebelled against Him, and therefore have become Satan’s people. God loves His Believers, His children very much; and does not want that they fall for Satan’s devices and suffer loss. Therefore, if any Believer starts to move away from God, and does not correct himself despite being cautioned and warned, then God has to chastise him appropriately. But if God makes anyone His child, He will never put him away, nor let him go away. Today, we will consider and understand this further.

    Think of it as a family-situation where a child is being disobedient to parents, is not mending his ways, persists in living contrary to the instructions given to him, and is sullying the name of the family because of his life and behavior. If such a child does not listen to verbal cautions and admonitions, from the parents, then out of their love for the child and to safeguard him from future severe harm and harsh consequences, they have to act firmly, and resort to chastising him. Their chastisement is an act of love, it is because of their possessiveness for him, and to draw the child back into the safety and care of the family. God has said the same in Hebrews 12:5-11. So, the Lord’s jealousy is not the jealousy in the worldly sense, but is an act of love and care, to keep His people safe from the wiles of the devil. Now we can understand that the term “provoke to jealousy” implies, to be stimulated to act for the protection and care of someone who is God’s precious possession, and to do whatever needs to be done to bring God’s child back into God’s fold, even if it is hurting and painful for now, but is beneficial from the eternal perspective (1 Corinthians 5:5).

    Paul then concludes with a rhetorical question, “Are we stronger than He?” The implication is that since no creature can ever be greater than the Creator God, therefore, the creature has to live in submission and obedience to the Creator Lord God; instead of trying to impose himself upon God and enforce his own thoughts and ways upon God. It is an indirect way of saying that we will do well to stay obedient and submissive to God, which is the best way for us, instead of doing things according to our own fancy and suffer harmful consequences for doing so.

    Therefore, the conclusion of participating in the Holy Communion for the participant is that because of his participation, it is binding upon him to stay away from the world and its ways; else be ready to suffer God’s chastisement for being disobedient to God.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.

पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:20-22 से उन चार गलतियों को देखा था जो प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होते समय, कलीसिया में होने लग गई थीं। इन्हें समझने के लिए हमें प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों के साथ प्रभु भोज को स्थापित करते समय के कुछ संबंधित तथ्यों को दोहराना और याद करना पड़ेगा। हमने देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु ने प्रभु भोज की स्थापना शिष्यों के साथ फसह का भोज खाते समय, उसी भोज की सामग्री को लेकर की थी। हम इससे पहले, निर्गमन 12 का अध्ययन करते समय, यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर के चुने हुए लोगों, इस्राएलियों को फसह के दौरान खमीर का प्रयोग करना बिल्कुल वर्जित था (निर्गमन 12:15, 19; 13:7; 34:25)। हम मत्ती 26:26-27 में लिखा पाते हैं कि “उसने उस से कहा, तू कह चुका: जब वे खा रहे थे, तो यीशु ने रोटी ली, और आशीष मांग कर तोड़ी, और चेलों को देकर कहा, लो, खाओ; यह मेरी देह है। फिर उसने कटोरा ले कर, धन्यवाद किया, और उन्हें देकर कहा, तुम सब इस में से पीओ।” यहाँ हम देखते हैं कि प्रभु ने रोटी और प्याले के लिए एक-वचन शब्दों का प्रयोग किया है, बहु-वचन का नहीं, अर्थात एक ही रोटी थी और एक ही प्याला था। प्याले में भी “दाख रस” (लूका 22:18) था, अर्थात अंगूरों का रस, न कि मदिरा जो दाख रस पर खमीर के कार्य करने से बनती है; फसह के किसी भी भाग में खमीर पूर्णतः वर्जित था। बिल्कुल यही बात मरकुस 14 और लूका 22 के वृतान्तों में भी दी गई है, और इनके द्वारा भी मत्ती के हवाले के एक-वचन के प्रयोग की पुष्टि हो जाती है।

उपरोक्त तथ्यों को ध्यान में रखते हुए जब हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:20-22 को पढ़ते हैं, तो हम पहचान सकते हैं कि शैतान ने किस प्रकार से प्रभु की मेज़ को भ्रष्ट कर दिया था, उसके मनाने की प्रभु द्वारा स्थापित विधि को बिगाड़ और बदल कर कुछ और ही कर दिया था। इस प्रकार से किए गए इन बिगाड़ और बदलावों के कारण कलीसिया में फिर अन्य गलतियाँ भी घुस आई थीं।

पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, पौलुस कहता है कि उनका यह व्यवहार परमेश्वर की कलीसिया को तुच्छ जानना है (पद 22)। पौलुस स्तब्ध है, ऐसा लगता है कि वे लोग पौलुस से अपने व्यवहार का अनुमोदन और सराहना की अपेक्षा कर रहे थे। किन्तु पौलुस के पास अपने भौंचक्के रह जाने, व्यथित होने को बताने के लिए कोई शब्द ही नहीं हैं, वह बस इतना ही कहता है “मैं तुम से क्या कहूं?” और फिर एक फटकार “क्या इस बात में तुम्हारी प्रशंसा करूं? मैं प्रशंसा नहीं करता” के साथ बात का अंत करता है (पद 22)।

यहाँ पद 18 से 22 में हम जो घटनाक्रम देखते हैं उस पर थोड़ा विचार कीजिए। मंडली में कुछ लोगों में ओहदा और पहचान प्राप्त करने की लालसा के कारण कलीसिया में प्रभु द्वारा नियुक्त शिक्षकों और अगुवों के नाम पर गुट-बाज़ी आरंभ हो गई, और वह भी उन शिक्षकों और अगुवों की जानकारी के बिना, उनकी पीठ के पीछे। क्योंकि इस प्रवृत्ति को तुरन्त ही रोका और हटाया नहीं गया, इसलिए उसने जड़ पकड़ ली, बहुत बढ़ गई। इससे कलीसिया में और विश्वासियों के व्यक्तिगत जीवनों में आत्मिक अपरिपक्वता आ गई, वे शारीरिक लोगों के समान व्यवहार करने लगे, जिसे उनकी प्रभु और विश्वास में बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति रुक गई, जो बिगड़ कर अन्ततः डाह, झगड़े, गुट-बाज़ी, और विभाजन तक पहुँच गई। इन बातों के कारण, उनके मध्य में, प्रभु की मेज़ का पूरा स्वरूप और उद्देश्य ही बिगड़ और बदल गया, प्रभु ने जो स्वरूप दिया था उससे बिल्कुल भिन्न, कुछ और ही हो गया। और वे लोग फिर प्रभु को आदर देने और उसकी महिमा करने के उद्देश्य से एकत्रित होने के स्थान पर, एकत्रित होकर परमेश्वर की कलीसिया को तुच्छ जानने वाले कार्य करने वाले बन गए। उनकी गिरावट का यह सिलसिला यहीं पर नहीं रुका; न केवल उन्हें अपनी इस गंभीर त्रुटि का, उन्होंने जो परमेश्वर की कलीसिया को तुच्छ जाना और प्रभु भोज का घोर अपमान किया, एहसास भी नहीं हुआ; बल्कि उनमें अपने किए के प्रति कोई संताप, कोई लज्जा नहीं थी, वरन उन्हें तो पौलुस से आशा थी कि वह उनके किए के लिए उनकी सराहना करेगा, उनके व्यवहार का अनुमोदन करेगा। यह हमें दिखाता है कि शैतान एक छोटे और महत्वहीन प्रतीत होने वाले प्रभु के वचन के उल्लंघन के द्वारा, किस प्रकार से बहका कर परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध होकर काम करने वाला बना देता है, और हम यही सोचते रहते हैं कि हम सही हैं, कुछ गलत नहीं कर रहे हैं, प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में एक भक्ति का जीवन जी रहे हैं - उनके अपने अनुसार तो वे प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के लिए ही एकत्रित होते थे, किन्तु वास्तव में परमेश्वर की कलीसिया को तुच्छ जानते थे।

इस विनाशकारी स्थिति को सुधारने के लिए, जिसके बारे में हम अगले लेख से देखना आरंभ करेंगे, पौलुस उनके सामने फिर से प्रभु द्वारा प्रभु भोज की स्थापना को दोहराता है, उसके उद्देश्यों को उन्हें समझाता, और अनुचित रीति से उसमें भाग लेने के दुष्परिणामों को बताता है।

The Lord’s Table - Compromise leads to Disaster (2)

 

In the previous article, we had seen from 1 Corinthians 11:20-22, four errors that had crept into the Church regarding taking part in the Lord's Table. To understand these errors, we need to recollect some pertinent facts related to the Lord’s initiating the Holy Communion with His disciples. We have seen that the Lord had established the Holy Communion during the Passover meal, using the elements of that meal. We had also seen earlier, while studying from Exodus 12, that the Israelites, the chosen people of God, had been forbidden the use of leaven for the duration of the Passover (Exodus 12:15, 19; 13:7; 34:25). We see from the account given in Matthew 26:26-27, “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you”. So, we see that in establishing the Holy Communion, the Lord Jesus took bread, broke it, and asked the disciples to “eat this” (all in singular, not plural; implying one bread); then He took the cup of “fruit of the vine” (Luke 22:18), i.e., the unfermented grape juice, (and not a cup of wine - the result of fermentation or leaven acting upon the grape juice; and all use of leaven was forbidden for the Passover), and asked the disciples to "Drink from it, all of you” (again all in singular, not plural; implying one cup of grape juice).  Very much the same has been stated in the parallel accounts given in Mark 14 and Luke 22, and they too affirm the singular bread and cup, as we see in the reference from Matthew.

With the above facts in mind when we read 1 Corinthians 11:20-22, we can identify how Satan had distorted the Lord’s Table and changed its manner of observance to something quite different from what the Lord had done. This distortion had then brought in other errors into the Church.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Paul says, this was equal to despising the Church of God (verse 22). Paul is aghast, it seems that they were expecting an approval and commendation from Paul for what they were doing. But Paul is at a loss for words to express his shock and dismay about their behavior, and all he can say is “What shall I say to you?”; and concludes with a tongue lashing for them “Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you” (verse 22).

Consider the sequence of events that we see from verse 18 to 22 here. The desire of some people for ‘approval and recognition” in the congregation led to promotion of factionalism in the name of teachers appointed by the Lord in their midst, and that too behind the backs of those teachers, unknown to them. Since this tendency was not immediately corrected, but was allowed to grow and take root, it caused spiritual immaturity, carnal behavior, and obstructed their growth and edification as Believers as well as the Church, eventually culminating in strife, contentions, and divisions in the Church. Because of the divisions and immature behavior, they changed the whole form and function of the Lord’s Table into something quite different from what the Lord had instituted. Eventually, in the name of gathering together to honor and glorify the Lord, they ended up despising the Church of God. This downward slide did not stop here; not only did they fail to realize the grave error, the gross denigration of the Church and the Holy Communion that they had committed; but they had no realization of it, no shame for it, rather they expected Paul to approve of it and praise them for their depravity. This gives us an idea of how Satan, through one seemingly small or insignificant transgression of the Lord’s commandment, can subtly beguile and lead us away into going and working against God, while all the while we can be thinking that there is nothing wrong with us and we are living a godly life, in obedience to the Lord – in their own eyes, they were gathering to partake in the Holy Communion, but in reality they were acting to despise the Church of God.

To rectify this disastrous situation, as we will start looking from the next article, Paul recounts to them the Lord’s setting up of the Holy Communion and its purpose, and tells them about the consequences of unworthily participating in the Lord’s Table.

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेखों से हमने पवित्र आत्मा की निन्दा के पाप के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में गलत शिक्षाएँ फैलाने वालों की एक और प्रमुख शिक्षा, जिसे वे अपने बचाव के लिए प्रयोग करते हैं, है “पवित्र आत्मा की निन्दा कभी क्षमा न होने वाला पाप है।” यह समझने के लिए कि यह “निरादर” या “निन्दा” वास्तव में है क्या, और यह क्यों केवल परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ही के विरुद्ध ही क्षमा नहीं हो सकता है, हमने पिछले लेख से परमेश्वर के वचन में से कुछ तथ्यों एवं शिक्षाओं को देखना आरंभ किया है, और त्रिएक परमेश्वर के तीनों स्वरूपों, पिता, पुत्र और पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में अपने इस विषय के संदर्भ से देखा है। आज हम देखेंगे कि लूसिफर का पाप क्यों क्षमा नहीं हो सकता था; और यह भी समझेंगे कि वचन के अनुसार प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा कही गई बात के संदर्भ में जिसका दुरुपयोग ये लोग करते हैं, निन्दा (blasphemy) शब्द का वास्तव में क्या अर्थ और अभिप्राय होता है। 

लूसिफर का पाप क्यों कभी क्षमा नहीं हो सकता, और हमारे लिए उसके क्या अभिप्राय हैं?

हम जानते हैं कि अदन की वाटिका में किया गया पहला पाप परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करना था; और 1 यूहन्ना 3:4 भी पाप की परिभाषा के लिए यही कहता है - परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था का विरोध, या परमेश्वर के नियमों का विरोध। वास्तव में अनाज्ञाकारिता करना परमेश्वर को नीचा कर देना है। हम जब भी परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करते हैं, तब हम परमेश्वर के कहे हुए के महत्व और स्तर की अनदेखी करके, स्वयँ कि इच्छा अथवा उस बात की व्याख्या को परमेश्वर की कही हुई बात के ऊपर रख देते हैं, और उसे पूरा करने का प्रयास करते हैं जो हमें सही प्रतीत होता है, न कि वह करने का जिसे परमेश्वर ने सही ठहराया है। संक्षेप में हम परमेश्वर के ऊपर हावी हो जाते हैं, स्वयँ को परमेश्वर से ऊँचा बना लेते हैं। लूसिफर ने भी स्वर्ग में यही करने का प्रयास किया था - स्वयँ को परमेश्वर से ऊँचा ठहराने का प्रयास। 

परमेश्वर की पवित्रता, वैभव, और महानता के विरुद्ध मनुष्यों द्वारा किए गए निरादर के पाप को यदि हमारे लिए क्षमा योग्य बना दिया जाता, तो फिर परमेश्वर के उच्च तथा निष्पक्ष न्याय की मांग होगी कि प्रधान स्वर्गदूत, लूसिफर द्वारा परमेश्वर की पवित्रता, वैभव, और महानता के विरुद्ध किए गए निरादर के पाप को भी क्षमा मिलनी चाहिए – और यह परमेश्वर की पवित्रता, वैभव, महानता, और पूर्ण सार्वभौमिकता का उपहास हो जाएगा। लूसिफर का पाप न केवल अत्यंत जघन्य था, वरन् क्योंकि उसके पतन के समय, किसी ने भी किसी के पाप की कोई कीमत नहीं चुकाई थी, जैसे कि मसीह यीशु ने हमारे लिए चुका दी है, इसलिए पाप के लिए कोई प्रायश्चित का समाधान उपलब्ध भी नहीं था; इसका निवारण दंड के द्वारा ही संभव था, और यही उसके तथा उसके अनुयायियों के साथ किया भी गया।

साथ ही, हम वचन से यह भी देखते हैं कि न तो लूसिफर ने और न ही उसके दूतों ने कभी अपने पापों के लिए कोई पश्चाताप किया, उनके लिए सच्चे मन से क्षमा माँगी। वे तो आरंभ से ही परमेश्वर के कार्यों में बाधा और बिगाड़ उत्पन्न करते आ रहे हैं, परमेश्वर के वचन और शिक्षाओं को भ्रष्ट करके उनका दुरुपयोग ही करते चले आ रहे हैं। ऐसी परिस्थिति में, मात्र क्षमा की प्रार्थना कर लेने की औपचारिकता को स्वीकार किए जाने का अर्थ होता स्वर्गीय स्थानों में अनियंत्रित अव्यवस्था एवं अराजकता को निमंत्रण देना। क्योंकि तब, कोई भी सृजा गया प्राणी अपनी इच्छानुसार कुछ भी कर लेता और, बस औपचारिक क्षमा माँग कर उसके परिणामों से बच निकालता –  और यह कदापि स्वीकार नहीं की जा सकने वाली स्थिति हो जाती।

इसलिए पृथ्वी पर भी पापों की क्षमा के लिए सच्चे और वास्तविक पश्चाताप और समर्पण को ही आधार बनाया गया है (2 कुरिन्थियों 7:10), अर्थात परमेश्वर के प्रति सच्ची भक्ति और श्रद्धा के आधार पर किया गया पश्चाताप न कि बस ऊपरी रीति से मुँह से बोल देना और औपचारिकता को पूरा कर देना। पश्चाताप के बाद ही पाप-क्षमा है (मरकुस 1:15; प्रेरितों 2:38); एक प्रथा के अनुसार या औपचारिकता में पापों की क्षमा माँग लेना न पर्याप्त है और न स्वीकार्य। इसलिए यह अनिवार्य था कि लूसिफर से उसके द्वारा किए गए परमेश्वर के निरादर के पाप का हिसाब लिया जाए और उसे पाप का उचित एवं उपयुक्त दण्ड भोगने का उदाहरण बना कर प्रस्तुत किया जाए। लूसिफर को उचित दण्ड दिया ही जाना था; ऐसा दण्ड जो उसके पाप के घोर और जघन्य होने के अनुपात में कम से कम उतना ही घोर और जघन्य तो हो। यदि परमेश्वर के निरादर का पाप एक के लिए क्षमा होने योग्य नहीं है, तो फिर परमेश्वर के निष्पक्ष न्याय के अनुसार, यह औरों के लिए भी क्षमा नहीं किया जा सकता है। हम पिछले लेख में देख चुके हैं कि इसे परमेश्वर पिता और प्रभु यीशु के विषय क्यों लागू नहीं किया जा सकता है; इसीलिए, पवित्र आत्मा के विरूद्ध निरादर या निन्दा के पाप को भी कभी क्षमा नहीं किया जा सकता है।

अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा कही गई “परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की निन्दा” क्या है।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आपके लिए यह जानना और समझना अति-आवश्यक है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित इन गलत शिक्षाओं में न पड़ जाएं; न खुद भरमाए जाएं, और न ही आपके द्वारा कोई और भरमाया जाए। लोगों द्वारा कही जाने वाले ही नहीं, वरन वचन में लिखी हुई बातों पर भी ध्यान दें, और लोगों की बातों को वचन की बातों से मिला कर जाँचें और परखें। यदि आप इन गलत शिक्षाओं में पड़ चुके हैं, तो अभी वचन के अध्ययन और बात को जाँच-परख कर, सही शिक्षा को, उसी के पालन को अपना लें।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Understanding The Sin of Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit (Part-3)

We have recently started to consider the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. We have seen that the people who spread wrong teachings about God the Holy Spirit, to cover up their concocted beliefs made up through misuse and misinterpretation of Biblical facts, and to prevent people from analyzing their claims and raising questions, they use fear as a tactic. If anyone tries to examine their false notions, they discourage him from doing so by telling them that they are committing the unpardonable sin of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, and should back-off, stop doing this, simply accept what has been said, else they will face very serious consequences from God. From the last article we had started looking into the veracity of these claims made by them, and had considered in context of the Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, the Triune God, why blasphemy could be considered as unpardonable only against the Holy Spirit, and not against God the Father and the Lord Jesus. Today we will see why Lucifer’s sin was unforgivable, and will also understand from God’s Word what does the word “blasphemy” mean in context of the Lord Jesus making the statement that these people misuse.

Why was Lucifer’s sin unpardonable, and what are its implications for us today?

We know that the first sin in the Garden of Eden was disobeying God - transgressing the law of God; and that is how 1 John 3:4 defines sin - lawlessness, or, transgressing God's law. In effect disobedience is belittling God. When we disobey God's law, we disregard the importance and status of what God has said, and place our own desire or interpretation over and above what God has said, and try to fulfill what seems right to us, rather than doing what God has said is the right thing to do. In short, it is overriding God, and elevating ourselves above God. This is what Lucifer had done in heaven, tried to place himself over and above God.

If the sin of dishonoring God by men, in the face of His holiness, majesty, and sovereignty had been considered “forgivable” by God, then His high standards of equitable justice would also demand that the archangel Lucifer be also considered for being forgiven his sin of dishonoring God’s holiness, majesty, and sovereignty - and this would have made a mockery of God’s holiness, majesty, and sovereignty. Not only was Lucifer’s sin heinous, but since at the time of his committing the sin, no one had paid the price of anyone’s sin, as the Lord Jesus has paid for us, therefore, there was no atonement and remedy available for sin at that time; the only remedy that could be implemented was that sin be punished, and that is what was done for him and his followers.

Moreover, from the Word of God, we also see that there is no record or mention that either Lucifer, or any of the angels that fell with him, ever repented and asked for God’s forgiveness for what they had done. They have been obstructing and spoiling God’s works since the beginning, have been corrupting and misusing God’s instructions continually. In such a situation, even if they had perfunctorily said “sorry” and such an apology had been accepted, then it would have meant inviting anarchy and chaos in the heavenly realms. Since then, any creature could have done anything they felt like doing and then could have escaped its consequences by perfunctorily saying “sorry” - and this would have given rise to a totally unacceptable situation in heaven.

It is for this reason that even on earth, the basis of forgiveness of sins is only a heartfelt sincere, actual repentance and submission to the Lord (2 Corinthians 7:10), i.e., a repentance that comes from a sorrow based on godliness and godly reverence; not just an outwardly mumbling to fulfill a formality. The forgiveness of sins comes only after repentance (Mark 1:15; Acts 2:38); asking forgiveness of sins as a mere formality or a ritual is neither sufficient nor acceptable. Therefore, it was imperative that an account be taken of God’s dishonor committed by Lucifer, and he be made an example of receiving appropriate and just punishment for sin. Lucifer had to receive a just punishment; a punishment which would be proportional to the severity of his heinous sin. If dishonoring God cannot be considered forgivable for one, then by the standards of God’s justice, it cannot be considered forgivable for anyone else either. We have already seen in the preceding article why this principle cannot be applied to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, but only to God the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the sin of dishonoring, or, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven.

In the next article, we will consider what constitutes this “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” spoken of by the Lord Jesus.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is very essential for you to know and learn that you do not get beguiled and misled into wrong teachings and doctrines about the Holy Spirit; neither should you get deceived, nor should anyone else be deceived through you. Take note of the things written in God’s Word, not on things spoken by the people; always cross-check and verify all messages and teachings from the Word of God. If you have already been entangled in wrong teachings, then by cross-checking and verifying them from the Word of God, hold to only that which is the truth, follow it, and reject the rest.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

पिछले लेख से हमने अपने तीसरे प्रश्न के आधार पर पतरस के जीवन का विश्लेषण आरम्भ किया है; अर्थात, यह देखना आरम्भ किया है कि क्या पतरस वह स्थिर और दृढ़ आधार हो सकता था, जो प्रभु की कलीसिया के लिए चाहिए था? हमने देखा था कि पृथ्वी की अपनी सेवकाई के आरम्भ में, मत्ती 7:24-27 में दो घर बनाने वालों के अपने दृष्टान्त में प्रभु ने या स्पष्ट कर दिया था कि मसीही जीवन का स्थिर और दृढ़ आधार केवल उसकी शिक्षाएं ही हैं, न कि कोई व्यक्ति। प्रभु के पुनरुत्थान, जब उसके शिष्यों में बहुत से सुधार और बदलाव आ गए थे, के बाद के पतरस के जीवन को देखने पर हम तब भी उसे डांवांडोल और अस्थिर, बदलते रहने वाला पाते हैं। उसके जीवन की ये बातें हैं:

पतरस का ध्यान, कम से कम उस आरंभिक समय में, प्रभु द्वारा दिए जा रहे निर्देशों पर कम, औरों के साथ अपनी तुलना करने में अधिक रहता था; जो आरंभिक कलीसिया के लिए अत्यावश्यक स्थिरता और निष्पक्षता के व्यवहार के अनुरूप नहीं था। इसका उदाहरण भी हम यूहन्ना 21:18-22 में देखते हैं; प्रभु पतरस को उसकी आने वाली सेवकाई और जिम्मेदारियों के विषय सिखाना चाह रहा है, और पतरस का ध्यान प्रभु की बात पर नहीं वरन अपने साथी यूहन्ना के भविष्य पर लगा है। जिसके विषय फिर प्रभु को उसे एक डाँट लगानी पड़ती है (पद 22)। 

पतरस अभी स्वर्गीय दर्शनों को समझने और उनके अनुसार कार्य करने के लिए अपरिपक्व था। प्रेरितों 10:10-16 में प्रभु उसे दर्शन के द्वारा संसार के सभी लोगों के पास जाकर सुसमाचार प्रचार करने की बात दिखा और बता रहा है, और वह उसे केवल अपनी शारीरिक स्थिति के अनुसार समझ कर प्रभु की बात को मानने से इनकार कर रहा है, वह भी व्यवस्था के अनुसार उसके अपने गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता के आधार पर। और प्रेरितों 10:17 में लिखा है कि जब कुरनेलियुस के घर से लोग उसके पास पहुँचे, तब वह असमंजस में ही पड़ा हुआ था। यदि उसकी आत्मिक परिपक्वता उचित स्तर की होती तो समझ जाता कि जो दर्शन उसने देखा और जहाँ जाने के लिए प्रभु ने बुलावा भेजा है, वे एक ही सेवकाई की बात हैं, जिसके लिए प्रभु उसे उस दर्शन के द्वारा आगाह कर रहा था (प्रेरितों 10:19-20)।

पतरस में प्रभु की विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया की स्थापना की समझ नहीं थी; इसी अपरिपक्वता और दर्शनों की नासमझी के कारण, वह यह नहीं समझ सका था कि प्रभु अन्यजातियों से भी उतना ही प्रेम करता है जितना यहूदियों से, जैसा उसने प्रेरितों 1:8 में शिष्यों तथा पतरस से सामरिया और संसार के छोर तक जाकर प्रचार करने के दायित्व देने के द्वारा प्रकट किया था। वह कुरनेलियुस के घर जाकर अपनी इसी अपरिपक्वता और नासमझी को प्रकट करता है (प्रेरितों 10:28-29)। जो व्यक्ति प्रभु के सुसमाचार के विश्वव्यापी उद्देश्य को नहीं समझता था, वह प्रभु की विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया के दर्शन को क्या जानेगा, और उसका आधार कैसे होगा?

पतरस लोगों को दिखाने के लिए अपने मसीही व्यवहार को बदलने और कपट करने वाला व्यक्ति था, और उसके इस व्यवहार के कारण उसके साथ रहने वाले और भी लोग बहक जाते थे। गलातियों 2:11-21 में, घटना लिखी गई है जब पतरस ने पौलुस के मसीही हो जाने के चौदह वर्षों (गलातियों 2:1) से भी अधिक के बाद, अर्थात लगभग दो दशकों तक कलीसिया में कार्य करते रहने के बाद भी, लोगों को दिखाने के लिए अपने आप को यहूदियों को स्वीकार्य दिखाने का प्रयास किया था, और उसके साथ बरनबास जैसे लोग भी इस बात में गिर गए। यह इतनी गंभीर गलती थी, कि पतरस के इस व्यवहार और उसकी भर्त्सना के लिए पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा इस व्यवहार और उससे संबंधित बातों के लिए “कपट” (पद 13), “सुसमाचार की सच्चाई पर सीधी चाल नहीं चलना” (पद 14), “विश्वास की नहीं वरन कर्मों की धार्मिकता को दिखाने वाला” (पद 16), “पापी” (पद 17), “अपराधी” (पद 18), “परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह को व्यर्थ ठहराने वाला” (पद 21) जैसे कठोर और कटु शब्दों का प्रयोग किया, और इस घटना को तथा उससे संबंधित भर्त्सना के उन शब्दों को अनन्तकाल के लिए अपने वचन में लिखवा भी दिया, जिससे आज हम पतरस के समान ही मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए परमेश्वर की शिक्षाओं से विमुख होने की इस गलती में न पड़ जाएं।

अब विचार कीजिए, क्या प्रभु जो आदि से लेकर अन्त तक की हर बात को जानता है, जिससे कोई बात छुपी नहीं है, जिसके लिए भविष्य भी वर्तमान के समान ही है, क्या वह ऐसे अस्थिर और डांवांडोल व्यवहार और प्रवृत्ति रखने वाले मनुष्य पर कलीसिया स्थापित करेगा; एक ऐसे मनुष्य पर जो अपने दोगले व्यवहार, उतावलापन, अधीरता के द्वारा औरों को भी गिरा सकता था, और जो अपने ही गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता के कारण परमेश्वर की बात मानने से इनकार कर सकता था? क्या किसी ऐसे मनुष्य के लिये प्रभु अपनी स्वयं की शिक्षा (मत्ती 7:24-27) के विरुद्ध जाएगा?

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञाकारिता एवं अधीनता में वचन की सच्चाइयों को उससे समझें। किसी के भी द्वारा कही गई कोई भी बात को तुरंत ही पूर्ण सत्य के रूप में स्वीकार न करें, विशेषकर तब, जब वह बात बाइबल की अन्य बातों के साथ ठीक मेल नहीं रखती हो। सदा इस बात का ध्यान रखें कि वचन के हर शब्द, हर बात को न केवल उसके तात्कालिक संदर्भ में देखें, समझें, तथा व्याख्या करें, वरन यह भी सुनिश्चित करें कि आपकी वह समझ और व्याख्या वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई संबंधित बातों एवं शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप भी है, उनके साथ किसी प्रकार का कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है। कभी भी किसी भी गलत शिक्षा को न तो स्वीकार करें और न ही उसका प्रचार और प्रसार करें; परमेश्वर अपने वचन की सच्चाइयों की अवहेलना करने वालों को फिर उन्हीं की मनसा के अनुसार भयानक भ्रम और विनाश में डाल देता है (यहेजकेल 14:7-8; 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:10-12)।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

On Peter? - (6) - Peter Shakeable & Wavering

Since the previous article we have begun to consider our third question, i.e., analyzing whether Peter could have served as the firm base that was required to build the Lord's Church? We had seen that the Lord in His parable of the two builders (Matthew 7:24-27), at the beginning of His earthly ministry, had made it clear that the firm foundation required to build a steady Christian life, are His teachings, and not any person. As we examine Peter's life after the resurrection of the Lord, i.e., after a even after many improvements and changes for the better had come into the lives of the Lord's disciples, we still find things that show him as unstable and fickle; unfit for providing a firm and steady foundation for the Lord's Church. These things in Peter’s life are:

Peter would act rashly, he was impatient; because of this, those with him would also do the same wrong things. We have two examples of this, first is in John 21:2-3, when he went back to his initial livelihood - fishing, and six others from the disciples of the Lord followed suit; but despite their toil and labor, they all remained unsuccessful. Second, in Acts 1:15-26, without asking the Lord, without the permission or instructions of the Lord to do so, he decided to have someone appointed in the place of Judas Iscariot; and everyone gathered there fell for his logic and arguments, and did so. But there is no Scriptural affirmation that the person they chose and appointed “through God” was accepted by God to take that position. This place of being the twelfth Apostle was later given to Paul. This analysis is a separate topic which we will not be able to consider here.

Peter’s attention used to be more upon the others around him, comparing them with himself, than on what the Lord was saying to him, at least in the initial phase, before the Lord’s ascension. We see this from John 21:18-22, where the Lord is instructing him about his ministry and work in the days to come, but Peter’s attention is upon his colleague John and what was to happen to John. The Lord had to pull-up Peter (v. 22) to get him to pay attention to the Lord.

Peter was not mature enough to understand heavenly visions and work according to them; he would even refuse to do God’s bidding. We see in Acts 10:10-16 that the Lord is showing to him through a vision to go and preach the gospel to all people of the world, but he is looking at and understanding the heavenly vision only from the perspective of his then physical condition, and even refuses to accept the Lord’s instructions about it, citing his own contrived righteousness of following the Law. It is also written in Acts 10:17 that when people from the house of Cornelius reached him, he was still perplexed about it. If he had the spiritual maturity, he would have understood that the vision he saw, and the call he had received from the Lord through those people were about the same ministry, and the Lord was calling him for a purpose (Acts 10:19-20).

Peter did not have the understanding about the world-wide Church of the Lord that included the gentiles; because of this lack of spiritual maturity and inability to understand the visions from the Lord, he did not understand that the Lord loved the gentiles just as much as he loved the Jews, as the Lord had expressed when He had asked the disciples, including Peter, to go to Samaria and the ends of the world with the gospel (Acts 1:8). Peter exposed this lack of spiritual maturity and lack of understanding on reaching the house of Cornelius (Acts 10:28-29). The person who does not understand the world-wide purpose of the gospel, how can he be expected to have an understanding about the world-wide Church of the Lord Jesus? How then can he ever be the foundation for building that world-wide Church?

Peter was prone to change his Christian behavior and be hypocritical about it, to please people and be seen to be right in their eyes, and because of this, others with him too would fall into the same wrong. In Galatians 2:11-21, an incident is given, when more than 14 years after the conversion of Paul (Galatians 2:1), i.e., after nearly two-decades of working in and for the Church of the Lord, Peter tried to make himself pleasing to men and not offend them by acting hypocritically, and even Believer’s like Barnabas fell into the same hypocrisy because of him, with him. This was such a serious wrong that the Holy Spirit through Paul rebuked him severely, called his behavior by various unpleasant, very strong and deploring expressions, e.g., “hypocrisy” (v. 13), “that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel” (v. 14), showing himself as justified by works and not by faith (v. 16), “sinners” and “minister of sin” (v. 17), a “transgressor” (v. 18), and one who “set aside the grace of God” (v. 21). Not only did the God the Holy Spirit say this to Peter through Paul openly and publicly, but also had it recorded for eternity in God’s eternal unalterable Word, so that today, we may not fall into the same grave mistake of going against the teachings of the Lord for the sake of pleasing men.

Now think for yourself, can the Lord God who knows everything about everything and everyone, from the beginning to the end; from whom nothing is hidden; for whom past-present-future are all alike, without any differentiation, would He establish His Church on such a shaky and vacillating man; one who could make others fall because of his hypocrisy, rashness, and impatience, and refuse to obey God for the sake of his own contrived righteousness? Will the Lord go against His own teachings of Matthew 7:24-27 for such a man?

If you are a Christian Believer, then you should learn to discern and understand the truths of God’s Word under the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Do not accept anything and everything as the truth unless and until you have cross-checked and verified it from the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit; more so when that thing does not seem to be consistent with the other related things of the Bible. Always be careful to examine, interpret, and understand every word, everything of God's Word in its immediate context; and also make sure that the interpretation and understanding is also consistent with other related things stated elsewhere in the Bible, and there is no contradiction at any place, in any way. Those who knowingly and willingly choose to go against the truths and facts of God’s Word, choose to believe and do according to their thinking and mentality, God sends them into a terrible deception and destruction (Ezekiel 14:7-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.
