पवित्र आत्मा के वरदान – 2

 

    प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, उसके मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई में सहायता के लिए, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा कोई न कोई आत्मिक वरदान दिया गया है। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर ने जो सेवकाई उस विश्वासी को सौंपी है, उसे के आधार पर पवित्र आत्मा उसे उपयुक्त वरदान देता है। हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में प्रत्येक वरदान, प्रत्येक सेवकाई, समान महत्व के हैं, उनमें कोई भिन्नता नहीं है, और वरदान व्यक्ति की इच्छा के अनुसार परिवर्तित नहीं किए जाते हैं; वाक्यांश “बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो” का अभिप्राय है कि कलीसिया और मण्डली के लोगों के मध्य सबसे अधिक उपयोगी होने की धुन में रहो। परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए प्रावधानों के भण्डारी होने के नाते, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को बाइबल में उल्लेखित पवित्र आत्मा के विभिन्न वरदानों की बुनियादी बातों के बारे में पता होना चाहिए।  हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 में पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिए गए 9 वरदानों को देखते हैं। आज से हम इन वरदानों के बारे में बुनियादी बातों को देखेंगे और इन वरदानों की उपयोगिता को समझते हैं:

• “बुद्धि का बातें”: बुद्धि या बुद्धिमत्ता का अर्थ होता है किसी परिस्थिति या आवश्यकता के अनुसार उपलब्ध ज्ञान एवं संसाधनों का उपयुक्त उपयोग करना; किसी कार्य को भली-भांति या लाभदायक रीति से कर पाना। इसे भजन 119:97-105 के साथ देखने से यह और अधिक स्पष्ट हो जाता है। 

• “ज्ञान की बातें”: ज्ञान किसी बात या विषय की जानकारी होने या उसे एकत्रित करने के लिए है। सामान्य व्यवहार में बुद्धिमत्ता और ज्ञान एक दूसरे के पूरक हैं, और साथ-साथ उपयोग होते हैं; एक के बिना दूसरा ठीक से उपयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है। किन्तु ज्ञान शारीरिक भी हो सकता है और ईश्वरीय भी; शारीरिक ज्ञान शैतानी होता है और स्वयं तथा औरों के लिए हानिकारक होता है, और ईश्वरीय ज्ञान आत्मा के फलों के अनुसार होता है (याकूब 3:14-17)। पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिया जाने वाला “ज्ञान” ईश्वरीय ज्ञान है, और इस ज्ञान का बुद्धि के साथ किया गया उपयोग व्यक्ति तथा औरों के लिए उन्नति लाता है। 

• “विश्वास”: बहुत सी ईश्वरीय बातें मनुष्य को अपनी सांसारिक बुद्धि से अविश्वसनीय लगती हैं, समझ में नहीं आती हैं। उदाहरण के लिए यह स्वीकार कर लेना कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने समस्त मानवजाति के पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत चुका दी है, अब उन पर लाए विश्वास के द्वारा मनुष्य अनन्तकाल के नरक के दण्ड से बचकर, परमेश्वर की संतान बनकर अनन्तकाल के लिए परमेश्वर के साथ स्वर्ग में रहने लगता है, मानवीय बुद्धि और ज्ञान के आधार पर बहुतों के लिए कठिन होता है। किन्तु पवित्र आत्मा इसे और परमेश्वर की अन्य अद्भुत और अविश्वसनीय प्रतीत होने वाली बातों को मानने के लिए आवश्यक विश्वास प्रदान करता है। इसीलिए याकूब ने लिखा है कि जिसे बुद्धि की घटी है वह परमेश्वर से मांगे और उसे दी जाएगी (याकूब 1:5-6)। इब्रानियों 11 अध्याय में पुराने नियम के उन विश्वास के दिग्गजों के नाम दिए गए हैं, जिन्होंने परमेश्वर की अविश्वसनीय प्रतीत होने वाली बातों पर भी विश्वास किया और ऐसे-ऐसे कार्य करे जो उनके अपने लिए तथा औरों के लिए असंभव थे। 

• “चंगा करने का वरदान”: प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के द्वारा शारीरिक रोगों से चंगाई भी पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से दी जाती है, और चंगाई का यह वरदान भी परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा किसी-किसी मसीही सेवक को देता है, हर किसी को नहीं। किन्तु जिस प्रकार से आज इस वरदान का प्रयोग किया जा रहा है, वैसा बाइबल में कभी नहीं किया गया है। बाइबल में कहीं पर भी “चंगाई की सभाएं” आयोजित करने, चंगाई प्राप्त करने को लोगों को लुभाने और एकत्रित करने, और शारीरिक चंगाई की शिक्षा को सुसमाचार प्रचार, अर्थात आत्मिक चंगाई पाने पर प्रमुखता एवं प्राथमिकता दिए जाने का कोई उल्लेख या उदाहरण नहीं है। शारीरिक चंगाई, चाहे प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा, या फिर उनके शिष्यों क द्वारा, जब भी दी गई है, व्यक्तिगत रीति से, व्यक्ति विशेष को, उससे बात करने के बाद दी गई है। किन्तु आज चंगाई देना मनुष्यों के नाम के प्रचार और प्रशंसा प्राप्त करने का माध्यम बन गया है। इस वरदान का बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप उचित उपयोग करने के स्थान पर इसका प्रभु यीशु के नाम में व्यक्तिगत प्रशंसा और लाभ के लिए किया जाने वाला दुरुपयोग और इसे अनुचित शिक्षाओं के साथ मिलाकर लोगों में प्रदर्शन करना, आज मसीही विश्वास और सुसमाचार प्रचार के लिए बहुत बड़ी मुसीबत और बाधा बना हुआ है। 

• “सामर्थ्य के काम करने की शक्ति”: यद्यपि यहाँ पर यह नहीं बताया गया है कि ये सामर्थ्य के काम कौन से हैं, किन्तु मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द का अंग्रेजी अनुवाद “miracles” किया गया है। अर्थात ऐसे कार्य जो सामान्य मानवीय योग्यता, शक्ति, एवं क्षमताओं के द्वारा किया जाना संभव नहीं है। इन विभिन्न प्रकार के कार्यों को हम इब्रानियों 11 अध्याय में दिए गए विश्वास के दिग्गजों द्वारा परमेश्वर और उसके वचन में विश्वास के द्वारा की गई बातों से भी समझ सकते हैं। उनके विश्वास को व्यावहारिक रूप में कार्यान्वित परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ही करवाता रहा।

     शेष वरदानों, “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति”; “आत्माओं की परख”; “अनेक प्रकार की भाषा”; “भाषाओं का अर्थ बताना” को हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे। यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो आपके लिए यह अति आवश्यक है कि आप अपनी सेवकाई को पहचानें और उस सेवकाई के लिए पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए गए वरदानों को भी पहचानें, उनके महत्व को समझें, और उनका उपयुक्त उपयोग करें, जिससे सुसमाचार का प्रचार और प्रसार, तथा परमेश्वर के नाम की महिमा हो। जो भी सेवकाई और वरदान परमेश्वर ने आप को प्रदान किए हैं, वही आपके ले लिए सही और आशीषपूर्ण हैं। उन्हें बदलने के व्यर्थ प्रयासों और गलत शिक्षाओं में मत फंसें; वरन उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा के निर्देशानुसार उपयोग कीजिए और परमेश्वर की आशीषों से परिपूर्ण होते चले जाइए।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Gifts of the Holy Spirit – 2

 

    Every Born-Again Christian Believer, for help and utilization in his Christian life and ministry, has received some gift or the other from God the Holy Spirit. We have seen that it is the Holy Spirit who decides which gift to give to whom on the basis of the ministry entrusted to the Believer by God. We have also seen that in God’s eyes every gift and ministry is equal, there is no differentiation, and gifts are not changed according to one’s desire; the phrase “desire the best gifts” simply means desire to be most useful in the Church and congregation. As part of their stewardship of God given provisions, every Christian Believer must know the basics about the various gifts of the holy Spirit mentioned in the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit are mentioned. Let us see some basic facts about them, and understand the utility of these gifts:

• “Word of wisdom”: Wisdom is the ability to properly use the knowledge and available resources in any given situation; to be able to do a job well, and in a beneficial manner. Consider this along with Psalm 119:97-105 and the meaning will become clearer.

• “Word of knowledge”: Knowledge is accumulating what is known about a topic or thing. In general behavior, wisdom and knowledge complement each other, and are used along with each other; one cannot be used well without the other. But knowledge can be temporal or physical as well as godly; temporal or physical knowledge can be satanic, is harmful for the person as well as others, whereas godly knowledge is in accordance with the fruits of the Holy Spirit (James 3:14-17). The knowledge given by the Holy Spirit is godly, and its use with wisdom brings benefits for the person as well as others.

• “Faith”: Many godly things seem impossible or unbelievable by the worldly wisdom, and are very difficult to understand. For example, to accept that the Lord Jesus has paid in full the price of the sins of the entire mankind, and now by coming into faith in Him man can be saved from the eternal punishment in hell, and spend eternity in heaven with God as his child, is very difficult if not impossible by man’s own knowledge and wisdom. But the Holy Spirit gives the requisite faith to accept this and other seemingly too wonderful and unbelievable things of God. That is why James has written that the one who lacks wisdom should ask God for it, and it will be given to him (James 1:5-6). In Hebrews 11 we have listed for us the names of the Heroes of Faith from the Old Testament who believed even on the seemingly impossible things of God and then through their faith in God and His Word did things which were impossible for others.

• “Gifts of Healing”: The physical healings done by the disciples of the Lord Jesus are done by the power of the Holy Spirit, and this gift of healing is given by God to some, not to everyone. But the way this gift is being promoted and used today, has never been done in the Bible. In the Bible there is no mention of any “Healing Campaigns or Meetings” being organized and advertised; there is no mention in the Bible of people being enticed for physical healings, and this preaching of healings taking precedence over the preaching of the Gospel, the message of salvation, i.e., the ‘healing’ of the spirit. The pattern we see throughout God’s Word is that any physical healing given to any person, has always been given personally, and after talking with that person. But today, physical healing has become a method of preaching about and promoting persons, acquiring name and fame. Instead of using this gift in accordance with the Biblical teachings about it, it is being misused to gain name, fame, and temporal benefits in the name of the Lord Jesus, and to preach many wrong doctrines and false teachings along with it. And this has become a big problem for the actual Christian Faith and for preaching and propagating the Gospel of Salvation.

• “Working of Miracles”: The kinds of miracles have not been specified here, the term generally means those works or things that are not possible through human ability, power, and skills. What these kinds of works are can be well understood from the works done by the Heroes of Faith mentioned in Hebrews 11, because of their faith in God and His Word. It was the Spirit of God who gave a practical working to their faith.

 

We will see about the remaining gifts, “prophecy,” “discerning of spirits,” “different kinds of tongues,” and “interpretation of tongue” in the next article. If you are a Christian Believer then it is very essential for you to know and understand your ministry, and the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to you to fulfil the work and ministry. You should understand the importance of the gifts, and how to use them appropriately and effectively, so that through you and your ministry the Gospel of salvation is preached and propagated worthily and God’s name is glorified. Whichever gifts the Holy Spirit has given to you, they are the best, most beneficial, and most rewarding for you. Do not get caught up in the false teaching and vain efforts of trying to change them or acquire some other gifts. Rather, use your gifts for your God assigned works and ministry and you will grow and be filled with the blessings of the Lord God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पौलुस, उसके परिवर्तन तथा यीशु को अपना प्रभु स्वीकार करने से पहले बहुत पढ़ा-लिखा और ज्ञानवान फरीसी था। वह पवित्र शास्त्र को बहुत अच्छे से जानता था, और उसके विषय चर्चा करने तथा उस से शिक्षा देने के लिए प्रशिक्षित था। इसलिए, ऐसा नहीं था कि वह पवित्र शास्त्र के बारे में अपनी बुद्धि और ज्ञान के द्वारा विश्वासियों को कुछ सिखा नहीं सकता था। लेकिन पौलुस को उदाहरण के समान उपयोग करने के द्वारा, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, उन सभी से जो परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई में लगे हैं, यह कह रहा है कि सब कुछ, यहाँ तक कि बिल्कुल बुनियादी बातें भी, “मनुष्यों के ज्ञान की सिखाई हुई बातों में नहीं, परन्तु आत्मा की सिखाई हुई बातों में” होकर ही दी जानी चाहिएँ। अर्थात, वचन की सेवकाई करने वाले लोगों के द्वारा न केवल विषय और प्रचार की संबंधित सामग्री, वरन किन शब्दों के द्वारा उन्हें कहना है, वह भी उन ही शब्दों के द्वारा होना चाहिए जो पवित्र आत्मा देता है, न कि मनुष्यों की अपनी बुद्धि, विचारों, और समझ के अनुसार। यह करना अनिवार्य है, क्योंकि मनुष्य, यहाँ तक कि परमेश्वर को समर्पित विश्वासी भी, बाइबल के शब्दों को बाइबल के बाहर की रीति से उपयोग कर लेते हैं और इस प्रकार वे परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट कर के उसे व्यर्थ कर देते हैं (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17)। इस से हमें परमेश्वर के वचन के बारे में पौलुस की सेवकाई के एक और पक्ष को समझने में भी सहायता मिलती है, जो वह 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:6 में कहता है, और जिस के बारे में हम पहले भी देख चुके हैं, कि पौलुस कभी भी जो पवित्र शास्त्र में लिख दिया गया है उस से आगे नहीं बढ़ता था, विचारों में भी नहीं (KJV, NKJV, YLT आदि अंग्रेजी अनुवाद देखिए)।

    तो अब, हम किस तरह से पहचान सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर के वचन का कोई प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक, चाहे वह एक प्रतिबद्ध मसीही विश्वासी, एक भक्त जन ही है, कहीं वह वचन का प्रचार करने और शिक्षा देने में अपनी समझ, बुद्धि, और विचारों का तो उपयोग नहीं कर रहा है? क्या वह वास्तव में पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, उसे की सामर्थ्य से “आत्मा की सिखाई हुई बातों में” होकर ही बोल रहा है? यहीं पर आकर पिछले लेख में दोहराई गई बातें सही उत्तर तक पहुँचने में हमारी सहायता करती हैं। जैसा हमने पहले देखा है, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है (यूहन्ना 14:17; 15:16; 16:13), इसलिए वह अपने कहे या किए में कभी भी किसी भी ऐसी बात के साथ नहीं जुड़ेगा जो सत्य नहीं है, अर्थात जो बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है। असत्य का एक स्वरूप होता है बाइबल के शब्दों और वाक्यांशों को बाइबल के बाहर के अर्थों और अभिप्रायों के साथ उपयोग करना; अर्थात उन्हें ऐसी बातें कहने और ऐसे अर्थों के साथ उपयोग करना जो उनके विषय बाइबल में नहीं दी गई हैं। दूसरा, हमने देखा है कि पवित्र आत्मा के सिखाने का तरीका है प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा जो कहा गया है उसे स्मरण करवाना (यूहन्ना 14:26), अपनी ओर से कोई नई बात नहीं बोलना, लेकिन केवल उसे ही लेकर बताना जो प्रभु यीशु ने कह रखा है (यूहन्ना 16:13-15)। इसलिए ऐसा कोई भी प्रचार अथवा शिक्षा जो बाइबल का सत्य नहीं है, जो पहले से ही बाइबल में नहीं कहा गया है, वरन बाइबल के लेखों के साथ जोड़ा जा रहा है, ऐसी कोई भी बात जो पहले से लिखे से आगे बढ़ने में आती है, चाहे वह विचारों में ही क्यों न हो, वह पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से नहीं है। यह मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए प्रेरितों 17:11 और 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21, हर बात को पहले परमेश्वर के वचन से जाँच-परख कर देखना और केवल उसी को थामे रहना जो सही है, के कड़ाई से पालन के महत्व को दिखाता है।

    जो परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई में लगे हैं, उन्हें इस का ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि वे “मनुष्यों के ज्ञान की सिखाई हुई बातों में नहीं, परन्तु आत्मा की सिखाई हुई बातों में” होकर ही प्रचार करें और सिखाएँ। और जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, यह श्रोताओं, कम से कम कलीसिया के अगुवों, की ज़िम्मेदारी है कि इस से पहले कि प्रचार की गई बात को अपने जीवनों में लागू करने के लिए स्वीकार किया जाए, वे जाँचे और परखें कि प्रचारक के द्वारा इन सिद्धान्तों का पालन हो रहा है कि नहीं (1 कुरिन्थियों 14:29)। अगले लेख में हम यहाँ से आगे बढ़ेंगे, और इस पद 13 के तीसरे वाक्यांश के बारे में देखेंगे।

Learning from the Holy Spirit – 23

 

    As promised by the Lord Jesus, God the Holy Spirit is given to reside in every Born-Again Christian Believer, from the moment of his salvation. He is given to be the Believer’s Helper, Companion, Teacher, and Guide; to help him live his Christian life and to also fulfil his God assigned ministry. As for the other provisions from God, every Believer must also be a worthy steward of God’s Holy Spirit too. To fulfil this responsibility, the Believer should learn about the things that God has given to him, including learning about God the Holy Spirit. As his Teacher, God the Holy Spirit teaches every Believer about all things, including Himself. He does this if the Believer is willing to learn from Him, instead of relying on learning from man and man’s works, which renders him prone to learning false teachings and wrong doctrines. In this current series we are learning about learning from the Holy Spirit, and have seen various aspects from 1 Peter 2:1-2, and Psalm 25. Presently, we are considering 1 Corinthians 2:12-14; and have seen from verse 12 that it is expected of Christian Believers to learn about the things that God has freely given to them, as part of their basic learning. We are on verse 13 now, have considered its first phrase, where Paul says that he and his co-workers teach about these things to the Believers. Before proceeding further, in the previous article we have revised some very important Biblical facts about the Bible, God the Holy Spirit, and learning God’s Word from Him. This was necessary to be able to understand the second phrase of verse 13, which we will consider today.

    As we have seen while considering the first phrase of verse 13, Paul says that he and his co-workers teach about the things that God has freely given to all Believers. In the second phrase of this verse, Paul adds a very important aspect of this teaching, that he and others with him practice in their ministries. Paul says in the second phrase of this verse that he speaks “not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches.” Remember that Paul since his conversion belonged to God, worked for God, served God through fulfilling his God assigned responsibilities. Here, he is writing this letter under the guidance of God the Holy Spirit to help the Believers, the children of God, to correct the errors that have crept into their Christian lives. Here he is addressing issues related to things given by God to His children, and he is to correct them bring them around to learning about those things and utilizing them for God. In other words, everything related to this matter has ‘God’ in it; which implies that even in the teachings and corrections, God must be there; i.e., it must not be done through any human ingenuity and wisdom, but only as God wants it done.

    Paul was a very well educated and learned Pharisee before his conversion and accepting Jesus as Lord. He was very well versed in the Scriptures, and was well trained in discussing about them, teaching from them. So, it was not that he could not have used his intellect and knowledge of the Scriptures to teach the Believers about things from God’s Word. But by using Paul as an example, God the Holy Spirit is putting across to all those who are engaged in the ministry of God’s Word, that everything, even the basic teachings, must be given “not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches.” Notice that it says here “in words” i.e., not only the matter, the contents of the teachings, but even the words to be used for imparting those teachings must be those which the Holy Spirit gives, and not from the thoughts, understanding, and wisdom of men. It is essential to do this, since men, even the committed Believers of God, are prone to using Biblical words in unBiblical ways, as we have seen earlier, and thereby corrupt God’s Word, render it ineffective (1 Corinthians 1:17). This also helps us to understand better another aspect of Paul’s ministry of utilizing God’s Word, mentioned in 1 Corinthians 4:6, and one we have considered earlier, that Paul never went beyond what has already been written in the Scriptures, not even in his thinking.

    So, how do we recognize whether or not a preacher or teacher of God’s Word, even though he is a committed Believer, a godly person, is using his own thoughts, understanding, and wisdom to preach and teach things, or is he actually doing this through under the guidance and ability given by the Holy Spirit, through words “which the Holy Spirit teaches”? This is where the revision of the previous article helps us reach the answer. As we have seen earlier, God the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13) therefore there will never be anything that is not the truth, i.e., that is not Biblically true, in all that He says and does. One form of “non-truth” is using Biblical words and phrases with extra-Biblical meanings and uses; i.e., using them in a manner and to convey meanings and things not mentioned in the Bible for them. Secondly, we have seen that the way the Holy Spirit teaches is by reminding about what the Lord has said (John 14:26), and not speaking anything new on His own authority, but taking and declaring what the Lord has said (John 16:13-15). Therefore, any preaching or teaching that is not the Biblical truth, anything that is not already mentioned in the Bible, but is being added to the Biblical text, anything that is going beyond what has already been written, even if it is only in thinking, is not from the Holy Spirit. This underscores for the Believers the absolute necessity of adhering to Acts 17:11 and 1 Thessalonians 5:21, of cross-checking everything from God’s Word and holding on to only that which is true and rejecting the rest.

    Those engaged in the ministry of God’s Word must make it a point to preach and teach “not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches.” And, as seen earlier, it is the responsibility of the audience, at least the Church elders amongst the audience, to see that these principles are being followed (1 Corinthians 14:29) by the speaker, before permitting the congregation to accept that which has been preached and taught for application in their lives. In the next article, we will carry on to consider about the third phrase of verse 13.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 से देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार में पौलुस किस तरह से तीन बातों का ध्यान रखता था – उसकी सेवकाई परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित थी, उस पर परमेश्वर की दया के कारण थी, और उसके लिए वह पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य से खराई से बहुत परिश्रम करता था। पौलुस ने अपने परिश्रम के परिणामों को परमेश्वर के हाथों में छोड़ दिया था, उसे अपनी परिस्थितियों की, उसके प्रति लोगों के व्यवहार की, उस सेवकाई के परिणामों की कोई चिंता नहीं थी, और इसीलिए ऐसी बातों से वह निराश भी नहीं होता था। आज से हम अगले पद, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:2 पर विचार आरम्भ करेंगे, और पौलुस से हमारे वर्तमान समय के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार सीखना जारी रखेंगे।

    

    इस पद में, पौलुस, उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार के तीन गुणों को हमारे सामने रखता है, तथा साथ ही वचन की उसकी सेवकाई के उद्देश्य को भी बताता है। यहाँ पर पौलुस बताता है कि उसने तीन गुणों के द्वारा सत्य को प्रगट किया, ताकि हर एक मनुष्य के विवेक में अपनी भलाई बैठाई, यह ध्यान रखते हुए कि यह सब कुछ परमेश्वर के सामने, अर्थात, उसकी जानकारी में हो रहा है, और परमेश्वर को हमेशा ही पता रहता है कि वे क्या कर रहे हैं। इस पद में दिए गए पौलुस की सेवकाई के तीन गुण हैं:

·        लज्जा के गुप्त कामों को त्यागना

·        चतुराई से न चलना

·        परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट नहीं करना

    लेकिन जैसा कि पौलुस ने अपने जीवन के द्वारा दिखाया है, और यहाँ इस पद में वह कहता भी है, परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई का उद्देश्य है परमेश्वर के वचन के सत्य को सँसार के सामने उजागर करना। यही, यह अभिप्राय देता है कि परमेश्वर के वचन को उसकी शुद्धता और पवित्रता में ही प्रस्तुत करना है, बिना उस में मानवीय बुद्धि और समझ की कोई बात मिलाए। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, यह कार्य स्पष्ट, सीधे और सहज रीति से किया जाना है, जिससे कि श्रोता उसे सुनकर आसानी से समझ सकें। ध्यान कीजिए कि जिस समय पौलुस ने यह लिखा था, अधिकांश लोग अनपढ़ होते थे, वे सीधे-सादे और साधारण लोग होते थे, जिनकी शब्दावली बहुत सीमित थी। इसीलिए, किसी भी जटिल, या आलंकारिक, या समझने में कठिन भाषा का उपयोग, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार और शिक्षा के उद्देश्य को ही व्यर्थ कर देता। और एक तरह से, आज भी हमारे लिए यह बात सही है, क्योंकि आज भी अधिकांश लोग परमेश्वर के वचन के बारे में ‘अनपढ़’ और ‘साधारण’ ही हैं। इसीलिए, उनके लिए भी वचन को उन्हें सीधे, स्पष्ट, और सहज रीति से दिए जाने की आवश्यकता है। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि पौलुस सामान्य लोगों के मध्य बहुत सीधे और सहज रीति से बोलता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:1); और वह आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व लोगों के मध्य ही परमेश्वर के वचन की गूढ़ बातें और भेदो की बात करता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:6-7)। साथ ही, परमेश्वर के वचन के सत्य को प्रस्तुत करने के लिए, परमेश्वर के वचन में किसी भी प्रकार की कोई मानवीय समझ और बुद्धि, या वाक्पटुता के मिलाने की ज़रा भी गुंजाइश नहीं है, लेश-मात्र भी नहीं, क्योंकि शब्दों के ज्ञान का उपयोग क्रूस के सन्देश को व्यर्थ कर देता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17)।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 19

 

    In the previous article we have seen from 2 Corinthians 4:1 how Paul, in handling utilizing and God’s Word, took care of three things – his ministry was God assigned, it was because of God’s mercy, and he labored diligently for his ministry under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. Paul had left the results of his labors to God, without being discouraged or worried about his circumstances, how people behaved towards him, and the results of his ministry. Today we will take up the next verse, i.e., 2 Corinthians 4:2 for consideration, and continue to learn from Paul about our utilizing and handling God’s Word nowadays.

    In this verse Paul gives three characteristics of his utilizing and handling God’s Word, and his purpose in the ministry of God’s Word. Paul says here that he did these things to manifest the truth, commend themselves in every man’s conscience, and being aware that they are always in God’s sight, and God is always aware of whatever they do. The three characteristics of Paul’s ministry, as given in this verse are:

·        Having renounced the hidden things of shame

·        Not walking in craftiness

·        Not handling the Word of God deceitfully

 

    Paul here states that through the above-mentioned characteristics, the aim of his ministry was to manifest the truth so as to make themselves commendable to every person’s conscience, knowing that they are always under the watchful eyes of God. This, through emulating Paul, sets before us another of the purposes of the ministry of God’s Word – to manifest or display the truth. Therefore, we can understand that the ministry of God’s Word is not to display one’s knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures. Paul was a very learned Pharisee, but instead of displaying his knowledge of the Scriptures, he denounced it in light of the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, since that knowledge was unable to have him gain Christ (Philippians 3:7-8). Nor is the Word ministry meant to acquire a fan-following and cause any factionalism or have one’s own group of followers, in the Church; we have seen earlier how Paul strongly spoke against these tendencies (Romans 16:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:6). Nor is it meant to be a means of acquiring worldly wealth and temporal gains – this too Paul has spoken against very strongly (Romans 8:5-7; Philippians 3:19; 1 Timothy 6:5).

    But, as Paul demonstrates from his own life, and says here in this verse, the ministry of the Word of God is to bring forth the truth of God’s Word before the world. This by itself implies that the Word of God has to be presented in its purity and holiness, and unadulterated by any human thoughts or understanding. As we have seen earlier, this has to be done in a clear, simple, straightforward manner, so that the audience can easily understand and follow it. Remember, when Paul wrote this, the vast majority of the population was illiterate, they were simple rustic folks with a limited vocabulary. Therefore, any complex, or idiomatic, or difficult to understand language would defeat the very purpose of preaching and teaching God’s Word; and in a manner of speaking, the same holds true even today, since the vast majority of the people are ‘illiterate’ and ‘simple’ regarding God’s Word even today. Therefore, they too need it to be presented to them in a simple, easy to understand manner. We saw earlier that Paul spoke in very simple straightforward manner to the common people (1 Corinthians 2:1); he spoke the mysteries and wisdom of God’s Word only amongst the spiritually mature (1 Corinthians 2:6-7). Moreover, for presenting the truth of God’s Word, there is no scope, none whatsoever, of mixing in one’s own eloquence and understanding about God’s Word, since, as we have seen earlier, preaching with the wisdom of words only spoils God’s Word, making it vain (1 Corinthians 1:17).

    In the coming articles, we will continue to ponder over the other things stated in this verse, related to the ministry of the Word of God.

    पिछले लेख में, 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 पर, एक उदाहरण के समान विचार करते हुए, कि पौलुस किस तरह से परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गयी सेवकाई में, परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार करता था, हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था, और न ही वह पवित्र शास्त्र के उसके ज्ञान और समझ के अनुसार वचन का प्रचार और शिक्षा, उसके ज्ञान और समझ की उत्तमता के साथ करता था, और कुरिन्थियों के मध्य अपनी सेवकाई के दौरान उसने अपने आप को निर्बल और भयभीत भी अनुभव किया; परन्तु क्योंकि वह परमेश्वर के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी था, इसलिए परमेश्वर ने उसे बड़ी सामर्थ्य से भरकर उपयोग किया। परमेश्वर ने पौलुस की अयोग्यताओं और कमियों के बावजूद, कुरिन्थुस जैसे शहर में, उसके द्वारा कलीसिया की स्थापना करवाई, जो उस बात की पुष्टि करता है जो पौलुस ने कही, कि उसकी सेवकाई पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य द्वारा थी, न कि उसकी अपनी किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान के कारण।

    पौलुस 2:5 में एक बात का उल्लेख करता है जिसका ध्यान वह परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग करने और उस से व्यवहार करने में करता था – उसके श्रोता अपना भरोसा किस पर रख रहे हैं – उसके प्रचार, ज्ञान, और बुद्धि पर, या परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर? उसका प्रयास यही सुनिश्चित करने पर रहता था कि श्रोता केवल परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर ही भरोसा रखें, न कि पौलुस की किसी योग्यता अथवा वरदान पर। इसीलिए, जैसा हमने पहले भी देखा है, पौलुस उसके अथवा किसी भी अन्य मनुष्य, परमेश्वर के सेवकों, का अनुसरण करने की प्रवृत्ति का, तथा कलीसिया में किसी भी आधार पर कोई भी गुट बनाने या विभाजन होने का घोर विरोध करता था। यह वर्तमान में अनेकों कलीसियाओं, यहाँ तक कि विश्वासियों की मण्डलियों में भी देखी जाने वाली प्रवृत्ति के बिलकुल विपरीत है; जहाँ पर अगुवे, पास्टर, और अन्य प्रमुख जन अपनी ही बात के माने जाने, और परमेश्वर के वचन की उनकी ही समझ और व्याख्या का बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए पालन किए जाने पर बल देते हैं, वैसा ही करवाते हैं। और इसीलिए कलीसियाओं में व्यक्तियों के अनुसरण के अनुसार न केवल गुट बनते और विभाजन होते हैं, वरन ऐसा होने को बढ़ावा भी दिया जाता है। जैसा पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखी अपनी पत्री में लिखा है, उद्धार देने वाला सच्चा विश्वास केवल परमेश्वर के वचन ही से आता है (रोमियों 10:17), और पतरस ने भी अपनी पहली पत्री में इस की पुष्टि की है कि विश्वासी होना, नया जन्म प्राप्त करना, परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा ही होता है (1 पतरस 1:23)। इसका अभिप्राय प्रकट है, वह चाहे कोई भी हो, किसी भी मनुष्य का वचन कभी भी किसी को भी उद्धार नहीं दे सकता है।

    इसलिए, जो लोग परमेश्वर के वचन के सेवकाई में लगे हैं, उन्हें पौलुस के समान इस बात का बहुत ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि, चाहे जानते हुए अथवा अनजाने में, वे लोगों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करने वाले, उनकी योग्यताओं और वरदानों में भरोसा रखने वाले न बनाएँ; बल्कि केवल परमेश्वर और उसके वचन ही पर भरोसा रखने वाले हों। साथ ही, पौलुस के समान, उन्हें भी किसी प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक का अनुसरण करते हुए गुट बनाने और विभाजन करने की प्रवृत्ति से बचे रहना है। उन्हें लोगों को परमेश्वर और उसके वचन का अनुसरण करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है, न कि किसी मनुष्य के वचन के। जैसा हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 पर विचार करते हुए देखा था, परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलाई गयी मानवीय बुद्धि की बातें, वचन को व्यर्थ और निष्फल कर देती हैं।

    ऐसा नहीं है कि पौलुस कभी बुद्धि और समझ की बातें नहीं करता था; जैसा उसने 2:6-8 में कहा है, वह ज्ञान की बातें भी सुनाता था, किन्तु इस बात के लिए सचेत रहता था कि ऐसा केवल सिद्ध, आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व लोगों के मध्य करे। और तब भी, ज्ञान की बातें करते समय, पौलुस एक बार फिर से इसका भी ध्यान रखता था कि, “परन्तु हम परमेश्वर का वह गुप्‍त ज्ञान, भेद की रीति पर बताते हैं, जिसे परमेश्वर ने सनातन से हमारी महिमा के लिये ठहराया” (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:7)। अर्थात, एक बार फिर, ज्ञान की बात करते हुए, पौलुस कभी परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए हुए वचन से बाहर नहीं जाता था, परमेश्वर के वचन में कभी अपना वचन नहीं मिलाता था, वरन केवल वही कहता था जो परमेश्वर चाहता था कि वह कहे।

    इस प्रकार से, इन पदों के द्वारा हम परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और उसके साथ व्यवहार के बारे में पौलुस से एक और बात सीखते हैं, कि, पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में, श्रोताओं के, तथा उनकी आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार ही, केवल वही बोलें जो परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उन लोगों से कहा जाए। अविश्वासियों और नए विश्वासियों से, उनसे जो विश्वास में अपरिपक्व हैं, पौलुस सीधे और साधारण शब्दों तथा भाषा में प्रभु यीशु तथा उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, अर्थात सुसमाचार के बारे में बात करता था। लेकिन जो आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व थे, सिद्ध थे, उनके साथ वह परमेश्वर के ज्ञान के बारे में बात करता था, उस ज्ञान के बारे में जिसे परमेश्वर ने गुप्त रखा हुआ था। लेकिन दोनों ही बातों के लिए, पौलुस कभी भी परमेश्वर ने जो उसे उन श्रोताओं से बोलने, उन्हें प्रचार करने, उन्हें सिखाने के लिए दिया था, उस से बाहर नहीं जाता था। परमेश्वर के प्रति उस का यह समर्पण, निर्भरता, और आज्ञाकारिता ही उसकी सफलता का भेद है, तब भी, और आज भी – परमेश्वर के वचन में उसके लिखे लेखों के द्वारा; और यही बात हमारी भी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई की सफलता का आधार है।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 10

 

    In the previous article, while considering 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, as an example of how Paul utilized and handled God’s Word in his God given ministry, we had seen that although Paul was not an eloquent speaker, nor did he preach and teach God’s Word in any excellence of his knowledge and wisdom of the Scriptures, and during his ministry amongst the Corinthians he had even felt weak and afraid, yet because he was totally surrendered and obedient to God, therefore, God had used him mightily. Through Paul, despite his weakness and short-comings, in a place like Corinth, God had got a Church established, which affirmed what he said in these verses, that his ministry was proof that he worked through the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, and not based on his gifts and abilities.

    In 2:5, Paul mentions a concern that he had while handling and ministering God’s Word – on what were his audience placing their faith – his preaching, knowledge, and wisdom, or in the power of God? His endeavor was to ensure that his audience trusted only in the power of God, and not any of Paul’s abilities or gifts. That is why, as we have seen before, Paul strongly discouraged any fan-following of himself or any of God’s ministers and any factionalism in the Church on any grounds. This presents a stark contrast to the trend seen today in many Churches, and even Believer’s Assemblies; where the Elders, Pastors, and other leaders insist on their word, their interpretation of God’s Word, to be accepted unchallenged. Therefore, factionalism based on personal following in the Church not only happens, but is also encouraged and promoted. As Paul has written in his letter to the Romans, the true saving faith comes only from the Word of God (Romans 10:17), and Peter affirmed it in his first letter that being Believers and Born Again was through the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). The implication is evident, not the word of man, whosoever he may be, will never bring anyone to salvation.

    Hence, those engaged in the ministry of God’s Word, like Paul, should also make it a point to ensure that they do not, knowingly or unknowingly, attract their audience into developing a false faith in their own abilities and gifts, instead of having faith only in God and His Word. Rather, like Paul, they should also make it a point to discourage all factionalism and fan-following of certain preachers and teachers which leads to forming of groups and then to factions. They should encourage and persuade people to follow after God’s Word the Bible, instead of the words of any man. We have already seen while considering 1 Corinthians 1:17, how the wisdom of man mixed in God’s Word renders it vain and infructuous.

    It is not that Paul never talked about wisdom; as he says in 2:6-8, he did speak wisdom also, but was careful to do it only amongst those who were spiritually mature. And here too we see that even when speaking with wisdom, Paul again made it a point to speak “the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory” (1 Corinthians 2:7). So, once again, when speaking wisdom, Paul did not go out of God’s Word, never mixed his own words into God’s Word, but only spoke that which God wanted him to speak about.

    So, through these verses, we learn another aspect of utilizing and handling God’s Word from Paul, i.e., under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, speak according to the audience, and their needs, but only according to what God wants you to speak. For the unbelievers and novices, for those who were still immature in faith, Paul spoke in simple straightforward language and words, about the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, i.e., the gospel. But amongst those who were spiritually mature, he shared the wisdom of God, and spoke about God’s wisdom kept hidden in mysteries. But in either case, Paul never spoke anything other than what God had given him to speak, preach, and teach to a particular audience. This submission, dependence, and obedience to God in fulfilling his ministry, is the secret for his success, then, as well as now – through his writings in God’s Word; and can serve as the secret for the success of our God given ministries too.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
