कुछ व्यावहारिक बातें

 

    पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि किस प्रकार से प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर का एक भण्डारी है, और अन्ततः अपने भंडारी होने के लिए परमेश्वर को उत्तरदायी है, चाहे वह इस बात का एहसास करे अथवा न करे, चाहे वह इस उत्तरदायित्व के निर्वाह के लिए परिश्रम करे अथवा नहीं करे। हमने यह भी देखा है कि मसीही विश्वासी किस प्रकार से भण्डारी होने के प्रति गैर-ज़िम्मेदार हो जाते हैं – परमेश्वर तथा उस से संबंधित बातों के प्रति अपने गलत रवैये और सोच के कारण। जब तक कि परमेश्वर और उसकी बातों के प्रति उनका रवैया सही नहीं होगा, वे भण्डारी होने के अपने दायित्व का ठीक से एहसास एवं निर्वाह नहीं करने पाएँगे। भण्डारी होने का यह गैर-ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह मूलतः दो तरह से प्रकट होता है – या तो व्यक्ति अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी के प्रति लापरवाह और उदासीन होता है; या अपने आप ही अधिकार को ले लेता है और फिर उसका स्वार्थी उद्देश्यों तथा सांसारिक लाभ को पाने के लिए दुरुपयोग करता है। आज हम परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गयी कलीसिया, या प्रभु के लोगों की मण्डली से संबंधित भण्डारी होने की जिम्मेदारियों के बारे में कुछ व्यवहारिक बातों के देखेंगे।

    परमेश्वर की कलीसिया, उसके लोगों में भण्डारी होने के निर्वाह की व्यवहारिक उपयोगिता का आरंभ, सम्बन्धित लोगों को छोटी जिम्मेदारियों को देने के साथ आरम्भ होता है, और यदि उन में वे विश्वासयोग्य और परिश्रम करने वाले पाए जाते हैं, तब ही उन्हें और अधिक देने के लिए उनपर भरोसा किया जा सकता है (लूका 16:10-11)। इसलिए मसीही विश्वास में आते ही किसी को भी तुरंत ही बड़ी जिम्मेदारियों के दिए जाने की अपेक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए। कोई भी, कभी भी, आरम्भ से ही किसी भी बात का विशेषज्ञ या उसमें परिपक्व नहीं होता है; हर किसी को, वे चाहे जो भी करें, छोटी बातों से आरम्भ करके, अनुभव के द्वारा सीखते हुए बढ़ना और माहिर बनना पड़ता है, जो भी वे करते हैं उसमें अनुभव के द्वारा ही परिपक्वता आती है। वास्तव में बाइबल की शिक्षा यही है कि कलीसिया में अगुवा होने के और ज़िम्मेदारी के स्थान, कभी भी नए विश्वासियों को नहीं दिए जाने चाहिएँ (1 तिमुथियुस 3:6)। यदि विश्वासी आत्मिक रीति से बढ़ते और परिपक्व होते जाते हैं, और केवल तब ही जब पहले वे छोटी ज़िम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह में विश्वासयोग्य पाए जाते हैं, (1 तिमुथियुस 3:10), तब ही उन्हें, धीरे-धीरे और अधिक तथा और बड़ी ज़िम्मेदारियों को सौंपा जाना है।

    सामान्यतः, विश्वास में आने के कुछ समय बाद ही लोग यह आशा रखते हैं कि उन्हें सीधे से पुलपिट की, अर्थात कलीसिया या मण्डली में वचन के प्रचार की सेवकाई दे दी जाएगी; उनके कलीसिया या मण्डली से संबंधित अन्य कार्यों या सेवकाइयों से जुड़े हुए न होने पर भी। लेकिन सभी मसीही विश्वासियों को यह ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि केवल वचन का प्रचार ही कलीसिया में एकमात्र सेवकाई नहीं है। वचन की सेवकाई किसी ऐसे जन को दे देना जो अभी उसके लिए ठीक से तैयार नहीं है, या परमेश्वर द्वारा उस सेवकाई के लिए निर्धारित नहीं किया गया है, न केवल कलीसिया के लिए वरन उस जन के आत्मिक जीवन के लिए भी बहुत हानिकारक हो सकता है। हम परमेश्वर के वचन से देखते हैं कि सिखाने, प्रचार करने, और वचन से सम्बन्धित अन्य सेवकाइयों के लिए परमेश्वर ही सेवक नियुक्त करता था (इफिसियों 4:11-12)। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि, चाहे जानते हुए अथवा अनजाने में, या किसी असावधानी के कारण, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति की गई कोई भी लापरवाही या उसका कैसा भी दुरुपयोग होने के कलीसिया में बहुत व्यापक तथा दूरगामी और गंभीर दुष्प्रभाव होते हैं। इसीलिए, प्रेरित इस बात के लिए बहुत सावधान रहते थे कि वे प्रार्थना और वचन के अध्ययन तथा उसकी सेवकाई की अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी के साथ किसी भी प्रकार का कोई भी समझौता नहीं होने देंगे, इन में संलग्न रहेंगे। और इसलिए कलीसिया के अन्य मुद्दे अन्य ज़िम्मेदार और योग्य जन सम्हालेंगे (प्रेरितों 6:2-4)।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Some Practical Considerations

 

    In the previous articles we have seen how every Christian Believer is a steward of God, and eventually will be accountable to God for his stewardship, whether or not he realizes it, whether or not he strives to fulfil his responsibility as God’s steward. We have also seen how Christian Believers become irresponsible in their stewardship – because of their wrong attitude and thinking towards God and things related to him. Unless their attitude and thinking towards God is correct, they will not be able to realize or fulfil their stewardship properly. This irresponsible stewardship manifests in two basic ways – either being careless and unconcerned towards the responsibility; or usurping authority and misusing it for selfish purposes and worldly gains. Today we will look at some practical considerations related to stewardship, given in God’s Word the Bible, in context of the Church, or, the congregation of God’s people.

    The practical fulfilling of stewardship in the Church of God, amongst His people, is initiated by giving concerned people small responsibilities, and if they are found diligent and faithful, then they can be trusted with more (Luke 16:10-11). So, no one should expect great responsibilities straightaway, soon after coming into the faith, even though they may be very clear about their God given talent and work. No one is ever an expert or is reliably mature in anything from the start; everyone has to begin small, then gradually learn, grow, and become an expert, become mature in whatever they do, through experience. In fact, the Biblical teaching is that positions of responsibility and leadership in the Church are not to be given to novices (1 Timothy 3:6). Only as the Believers grow and mature spiritually, and only if they are found trustworthy in small responsibilities (1 Timothy 3:10), gradually more and bigger responsibilities are to be given to them. But if the stewards are careless and unwilling for small things, or demanding for certain things and disinterested in others, then they will be denied more important ones also.

    Usually, soon after coming to faith, people often straightaway expect to be given the pulpit i.e., being given the Word ministry in the Church; without their being concerned about other things to do in the Church and its various ministries. But all Believers should realize that Word Ministry is not the only stewardship in the Church. Giving the Word Ministry to someone not ready, or not chosen for it by the Lord can be disastrous not only for the Church but for that person’s own spiritual life as well. We see from God’s Word that it is the Lord who appoints those entrusted with the teaching, preaching, and Word related ministries (Ephesians 4:11-12). This is because any carelessness or misuse of God's Word, knowingly or unknowingly, inadvertently, will have severe and widespread consequences in the Church. Therefore, the Apostles were very particular that they would not compromise in their responsibility of prayer, of studying, and of ministering God' Word and remain involved in it, while the other matters were handled by other Believers, who also had to be worthy of handling the matter (Acts 6:2-4).

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख से हमने परमेश्वर का गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी होने के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया है। हम देख चुके हैं कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए परमेश्वर ने कोई न कोई कार्य निर्धारित किया ही है, उस कार्य को करने के लिए उसे उपयुक्त संसाधन भी उपलब्ध करवाए हैं। प्रत्येक विश्वासी को उन कार्यों को सभी की भलाई, परमेश्वर के राज्य की बढ़ोतरी, और परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिए पूरा करना है। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई इन बातों का परमेश्वर के लिए भण्डारी है; अन्ततः उसे अपना हिसाब प्रभु परमेश्वर को देना होगा, और उसके द्वारा भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह के अनुसार उसे अपने अनन्त काल के लिए पुरस्कार या प्रतिफल मिलेंगे। विश्वासी गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी मूलतः दो प्रकार से हो सकता है – पहला, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बातों और जिम्मेदारियों के प्रति लापरवाह और उदासीन होने के द्वारा; तथा दूसरा, भण्डारी होने को स्वामी होना समझ लेना और अधिकारों का दुरुपयोग करना। पिछले लेख में पहली बात को देख चुके हैं; आज दूसरी को देखेंगे।

    प्रभु यीशु ने लूका 12:35-48 में अपने शिष्यों को प्रभु का भण्डारी होने की शिक्षा दी; उन्हें समझाया कि स्वामी के किसी भी समय अचानक ही वापस आ जाने के लिए वे भले दासों के समान सदा तत्पर और तैयार रहें, उसकी बाट जोहते रहें। पतरस द्वारा प्रश्न उठाने पर (पद 41) प्रभु ने ‘विश्वासयोग्य और बुद्धिमान भण्डारी’ (पद 42) के गुण भी बताए (पद 42-44); और फिर गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी के गुण भी बताए (पद 45) तथा उसका परिणाम भी बताया (पद 46)। हमारे विषय के सन्दर्भ में, हमारा मुख्य अभिप्राय पद 45 से है।

    दूसरी प्रकार का गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी, स्वामी के आने में देर प्रतीत होने का गलत अर्थ लेता है, और अपने आप को ही स्वामी समझने लगता है। वह अनुचित रीति से स्वामी के अधिकार अपना लेता है, और अपने संगी दासों के साथ दुर्व्यवहार करता है। साथ ही उसका व्यक्तिगत जीवन भी भ्रष्ट हो जाता है, वह शारीरिक सुख-विलास की बातों में लग जाता है। जबकि जब प्रभु ज़िम्मेदारी देता है, तो उस ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह अपने स्वभाव और गुणों के अनुरूप किए जाने की अपेक्षा करता है; अर्थात, उस प्रकार से जैसे प्रभु स्वयं उस कार्य को करता, उस कार्य के सन्दर्भ में जिस प्रकार का व्यवहार प्रभु का होता। आज, हमारे लिए परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने इस उचित रीति से भण्डारी की जिम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह को 1 पतरस 5:1-4 में लिखवाया है। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पतरस द्वारा लिखे गए गुणों को पढ़ने से स्पष्ट है कि कलीसिया के अगुवों को अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों का निर्वाह उस प्रभु के चरित्र और गुणों के अनुसार करना है, जिसने उन्हें यह ज़िम्मेदारी दी है।

    दोनों ही प्रकार के भण्‍डारियों के गैर-ज़िम्मेदार होने के पीछे एक ही बात है – उनकी सोच, जो उनके स्वामी के प्रति, उसके पक्ष में थी ही नहीं। पहले वाले की सोच में स्वामी द्वारा उसे दिए गए आदर और ज़िम्मेदारी का कोई महत्व नहीं था, इसीलिए वह अपने भण्डारी होने के प्रति लापरवाह और उदासीन रहा। दूसरे वाले की सोच में स्वार्थ, अपने व्यक्तिगत हित तथा सांसारिक लाभ के लिए उसे सौंपे गए समय, साधन, और अवसर दुरुपयोग करना था। तात्पर्य यह कि जब तक हम मसीही विश्वासियों की प्रभु और उसके द्वारा दी गई जिम्मेदारियों के प्रति सोच ठीक नहीं होगी, हम प्रभु के भले भण्डारी भी नहीं बन सकेंगे। इसीलिए हम मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए पवित्र आत्मा ने कुलुस्सियों 3:1-2 में लिखवाया है, “सो जब तुम मसीह के साथ जिलाए गए, तो स्वर्गीय वस्तुओं की खोज में रहो, जहां मसीह वर्तमान है और परमेश्वर के दाहिनी ओर बैठा है। पृथ्वी पर की नहीं परन्तु स्वर्गीय वस्तुओं पर ध्यान लगाओ।” यदि हमारा मन, ध्यान, और परिश्रम स्वर्गीय बातों पर नहीं बल्कि नाशमान सांसारिक बातों पर ही लगा होगा; स्वर्ग में संपत्ति अर्जित करने की बजाए सांसारिक संपत्ति, घर, ज़मीन, आदि पर ही लगा होगा, तो हम अपने आप को अपने स्वामी के आने तथा उसके साथ स्वर्ग में रहने के लिए तैयार कैसे रखेंगे, अपने भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारियों को जानेंगे और उनका ठीक से निर्वाह कैसे करेंगे? यदि हमारी सोच सही होगी, तो हम अपने कार्य भी सही करेंगे। अगले लेख में हम भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह के बारे में कुछ और बातें देखेंगे।

Being an Irresponsible Steward - 2

 

    Since the previous article we have begun to look about being an irresponsible steward of God. We have already seen that God has determined some work or the other for every Christian Believer, and to help him do that work has also made available for him the appropriate resources. Every Believer has to do those works for the benefit of others, for the growth of God’s Kingdom, and for God’s glory. Every Christian Believer is God’s steward for what has been given to him; eventually, he will have to give an account to God for it. According to how he has fulfilled his responsibility of being God’s steward, he will receive his rewards for eternity. A Believer can be irresponsible in two basic ways – firstly, by being careless and unconcerned regarding what God has given him; the second is by assuming stewardship is being the master and misusing the usurped authority. In the previous article we have seen about the first one; today we will see the second one.

    The Lord Jesus, in Luke 12:35-48 taught His disciples about being His steward. He taught them that like good servants, they should always remain ready and prepared for the master to come at any time, and they should be found waiting for His coming. Peter then raised a question (vs. 41), and the Lord gave the characteristics of the ‘faithful and wise steward’ (vs. 42-44); and then also told them about the irresponsible steward (vs. 45) and his outcome (vs. 46). In context of our topic, we are mainly concerned about verse 45.

    The second kind of irresponsible steward misuses the apparent delay in the coming of the master, and starts considering himself as the master. He wrongly usurps the authority of the master, and then starts ill-treating his fellow servants. His personal life also gets corrupted, and he gets involved in things related to physical gratification and pleasures. Whereas, whenever the Lord gives a responsibility, He expects that it be fulfilled in accordance with the Lord’s characteristics and nature, i.e., as the Lord would have done that work, as would have been the Lord’s behavior towards that responsibility. Today, for our benefit, God the Holy Spirit has had this right way of fulfilling responsibilities in 1 Peter 5:1-4. It is very clear from the manner of doing the Lord’s work as written by Peter, that the Elders and leaders of the Church have to conduct themselves and fulfill their responsibilities according to the characteristics and behavior of the Lord who has given them these responsibilities.

    There is one common thing behind both the stewards being irresponsible – their attitude, their thinking, which was not towards their master, not oriented towards him. The attitude of the first one had no importance for the honor and responsibility entrusted to him by the master, therefore, he remained careless and unconcerned towards it. The attitude of the second one was of being selfish, to misuse the time, resources, and opportunity given to him, for personal gains and for acquiring physical benefits. The implication is that unless and until we Christian Believers have a right attitude and thinking towards the Lord and towards the responsibilities He has given to us, we will not be able to become good stewards of God. That is why God the Holy Spirit has had it written for us Christian Believers in Colossians 3:1-2, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” If our hearts, mind, and efforts are not on heavenly things, but on temporal worldly things; instead of acquiring heavenly things, are on acquiring material things and wealth on earth; then how can we keep ourselves ready for the return of our Master and be with Him in heaven; how can we know of our responsibilities as His stewards and fulfill them? If our attitude, our thinking is right, then we will also fulfill our responsibilities properly. In the next article we will look further about fulfilling our responsibilities as stewards of God.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी, जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दिया है स्वतः ही उसका भण्डारी भी है। और उसे परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए उन वरदानों को कलीसिया के लाभ तथा परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिए उपयोग करना है। यद्यपि परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होना मसीही विश्वासी होने के साथ अभिन्न रीति से जुड़ा हुआ है, फिर भी अधिकांश मसीही विश्वासी उनके मसीही विश्वास में आते ही, उन्हें परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई इस जिम्मेदारी को न तो पहचानते हैं, और न ही उसका एहसास रखते हैं। आज हम देखेंगे कि मसीही विश्वासी किस प्रकार से परमेश्वर का गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी हो सकता है, और फिर अन्ततः उसे इसके लिए बहुत बड़ी कीमत चुकानी पड़ेगी।

    मूलतः दो तरीके हैं जिनके कारण व्यक्ति गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी बन सकता है, और फिर अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही के लिए दोषी हो जाता है। ये दो तरीके, भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी निभाने के विपरीत छोर पर देखे जाते हैं। हम परमेश्वर के लिए अयोग्य भण्डारी इन दो तरीकों से हो सकते हैं:

•  लापरवाह और उदासीन होने के द्वारा: जैसे कि वह दास था जिसे प्रभु द्वारा मत्ती 25:14-30 में दिए गए तोड़ों के दृष्टांत में एक तोड़ा दिया गया था। किन्तु उस दास ने उसे दिए गए आदर और ज़िम्मेदारी की कोई कदर नहीं की, और न ही वह अपने स्वामी द्वारा उस से रखी गई अपेक्षा के विषय चिंतित था। उसने उस तोड़े का कोई उपयोग नहीं किया, और उसे दण्ड भोगना पड़ा (मत्ती 25:24-30)।

• आवश्यकता से अधिक अधिकार जताने और हथियाने वाला होने के द्वारा: जैसे कि वह दास था जिसने अपने भण्डारी होने को स्वामी होने के समान समझ लिया (लूका 12:45-46); जबकि उससे अपेक्षा थी कि वह अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह में नम्र और कोमल होगा (1 पतरस 5:1-4)।

    पहले उदाहरण, प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए तोड़ों के दृष्टांत में हम देखते हैं कि स्वामी ने अपने दासों को बुलाया और अपनी संपत्ति उनको सौंप दी (पद 14); और प्रत्येक को तोड़े दिए, प्रत्येक को उसकी योग्यता के अनुसार (पद 15)। जिन्हें पाँच तथा दो तोड़े मिले थे उन्होंने उनका सदुपयोग किया, और अपने स्वामी के लिए उतने ही और कमा लिए। लेकिन जिसे एक मिला था उसने मिट्टी खोदी और अपने स्वामी के पैसे छुपा दिए (पद 18)। स्वामी ने जो उसे सौंपा था, उसके प्रति वह लापरवाह और उदासीन था; और न ही उसने अन्य दोनों दासों द्वारा किए जा रहे काम से कोई संकेत लिया। इस दास ने केवल अपने समय की बरबादी ही की, प्रभु के लिए उपयुक्त कुछ भी नहीं किया। क्योंकि स्वामी बहुत दिनों के बाद वापस आया, इसलिए उसके पास स्वामी के लिए कुछ करने को बहुत समय था, किन्तु उसने कुछ नहीं किया; और स्वामी ने लौट कर आने पर अपने दासों से हिसाब लिया (पद 19)।

    यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात है, ऐसी जिसके बारे में प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को ध्यान देना चाहिए, उसका एहसास रखना चाहिए – इससे बचने का कोई तरीका नहीं है, किसी भी रीति से नहीं – परमेश्वर ने हमें भण्डारी बनाया है, और वह हम सभी से हिसाब लेगा (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10; 1 पतरस 4:17-18)। मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए यह हिसाब लेना, उन्हें उनके अनन्त कालीन प्रतिफलों के दिए जाने के लिए होगा। उनके लिए यह न्याय किया जाना उद्धार पाने या न पाने के लिए नहीं होगा – इस प्रश्न का समाधान तो एक ही बार और हमेशा के लिए उसी पल हो गया था जब हमने प्रभु यीशु को अपना निज उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार किया था और उसमें विश्वास करना आरंभ किया था, उसके जन बन गए थे।

    जिन्होंने स्वामी की अपेक्षा के अनुसार जीवन व्यतीत किया, और उसके लिए निवेश किया, उन्हें स्वामी ने बहुत प्रतिफल दिए। लेकिन जिस ने स्वामी की अपेक्षा के अनुसार जीवन नहीं जिया, और जो इस बात के लिए क्षमा-प्रार्थी एवं लज्जित होने के स्थान पर, अपने आप को सही ठहराने के प्रयास करने लगा (पद 24-25), स्वामी ने उसी के मुँह के शब्दों के द्वारा उसे दोषी ठहराया, उसके तोड़े को उस से ले लिया, और उसे बाहर दण्ड के स्थान में भेज दिया, उसे दुष्ट, आलसी, निकम्मा कहा (पद 26-30)।

    तो एक प्रकार के गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी वे हैं जो परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए वरदानों और योग्यताओं का उपयोग परमेश्वर के लाभ तथा परमेश्वर के राज्य की बढ़ोतरी के लिए नहीं करते हैं, परमेश्वर के लिए कार्य करने के प्रति उदासीन रहते हैं। ऐसे सेवकों को दुष्ट, आलसी, और निकम्मा कहा गया है, और उनके निष्क्रिय रहने के लिए उन्हें दण्ड दिया गया है। अन्त के समय ऐसे बहुत से होंगे जिन्होंने उद्धार तो पाया है, किन्तु परमेश्वर के राज्य में खाली हाथ प्रवेश करेंगे, और फिर उनके पास अनन्त काल का समय होगा अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों के प्रति लापरवाह रहने और प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी होने के अवसरों को गँवाते रहने के लिए शोकित होने और हाथ मलते रहने के लिए (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:13-15)।

    अगले लेख में हम दूसरे प्रकार के गैर-ज़िम्मेदार आस के बारे में देखेंगे। यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Being an Irresponsible Steward - 1

 

    In the previous article we have seen that every Christian Believer is automatically also God’s steward for whatever God has given him. And he has to use the God given gifts for the benefit of the Church, for the glory of God. Although being a steward for God is an inseparably linked with becoming a Christian Believer; yet, most Christian Believers do not realize and recognize this God given responsibility placed upon them along with their coming to faith. Today we will see how a Christian Believer can be an irresponsible steward of God, and eventually pay heavily for it.

    There are basically two ways through which a person can be an irresponsible steward, and be liable for disciplinary action. These two ways are at the opposite extremes of the responsibility of stewardship given by God. We can be poor stewards of God by either:

• Being careless and unconcerned: by being like the servant who was given one talent in the Lord’s parable of talents (Matthew 25:14-30). But he did not take into consideration the honor and responsibility given to him, nor was he concerned of the expectations of the one who had given it to him; he did not put the talent given to him to any use, and was punished (Matthew 25:24-30).

• Being overly possessive and usurping: by being like the one who misused his stewardship as a position of authority (Luke 12:45-46); whereas he had to be gentle and caring in his responsibility (1 Peter 5:1-4).

    In the first instance, we see in the Lord’s parable of the talents that the master called his servants and delivered his goods to them (vs. 14); and gave talents to them, to each one according to their individual ability (vs. 15). Those who had received five and two talents, utilized them, and gained as many more for their master; but the one who had received the one talent dug in the ground and hid his master’s money (vs. 18). He was uncaring, unconcerned about what his master had given him; and neither did he take cue from what the other two servants were doing. This servant only wasted his time, doing nothing worthwhile for the Lord. Since the master came after a long time, he had plenty of time and opportunity to do something for the master, but did nothing; and on coming back took an account from his servants (vs. 19).

    This is something of great importance, something that we Christian Believers should realize and note – there is no escaping, not in any way – God has made us stewards, and God will also take an account from each and every one of us (2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Peter 4:17-18). For the Christian Believers this accounting, this judgment will be for their eternal rewards. It is not a judgment to determine being saved or not – this question was settled once and for all when we accepted the Lord Jesus as our personal savior and came to faith in Him, and became the people of God.

    Those who had lived up to the master’s expectations and had invested for the master, earned for him, they were handsomely rewarded by the master. But the one who did not live up to the master’ expectation, he, instead of being sorry for it and asking forgiveness, tried to justify himself (vs.24-25). The master took the words of his own mouth and held him guilty; took away his talent and sent him out to be punished, calling him wicked, lazy, and unprofitable (vs. 26-30).

    So, one kind of an irresponsible steward is the one who does not utilize his God given ability and gifts, for the profit of God, for the growth of God’s kingdom, remains unconcerned about working for God. Such a steward has been called wicked, lazy, and unprofitable, and has been punished for his inaction. At the end, there will be many who were saved, but will enter God’s Kingdom empty handed, and will have an eternity to regret their neglect of responsibilities and missed opportunities to be useful for the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

    In the next article we will consider being the other kind of irresponsible steward. If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होना – 3

 

    पिछले लेख में हमने दाऊद द्वारा सुलैमान को दिए गए निर्देशों, तथा पौलुस द्वारा दिए गए अपनी ही सेवकाई के उदाहरण से देखा था कि परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होना कुछ ही लोगों के लिए आरक्षित नहीं किया गया है, न ही यह किसी के चुनाव के द्वारा है, और न ही किसी के इस ज़िम्मेदारी को स्वीकार करने को पसंद अथवा नापसंद करने के आधार पर है। इस प्रकार से भण्डारी होना परमेश्वर का जन होने, मसीही विश्वासी होने के साथ ही जुड़ा हुआ है, उसका अभिन्न अंग है। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के द्वारा कोई न कोई कार्य, कोई न कोई ज़िम्मेदारी दी गई है (इफिसियों 2:10); और जिस किसी को परमेश्वर ने जो कुछ भी दिया है, वह उसका भण्डारी है।

    लूका 12:35-44 में एक दृष्टान्त के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने शिष्यों को सिखाया कि उन्हें सदा उसके आगमन के लिए, जो अनपेक्षित और कभी भी हो सकता है, तत्पर और तैयार रहना चाहिए। इस दृष्टान्त में, स्वामी ने जिन सेवकों को तैयार और उसकी बाट जोहते हुए पाया, उन्हें उसके द्वारा आदर और पुरस्कार मिला। और फिर प्रभु ने इस दृष्टान्त के परिदृश्य को स्वयं पर लागू करते हुए दिखाया कि स्वामी वह ही है। जब पतरस ने और स्पष्टीकरण के लिए प्रश्न किया, “हे प्रभु, क्या यह दृष्‍टान्‍त तू हम ही से या सब से कहता है?” (लूका 12:41), तब प्रभु ने स्पष्ट कर दिया कि यह स्वामी के सभी सेवकों के लिए है (पद 43); अर्थात, वे सभी जो परमेश्वर के घराने के लोग हैं, जो परमेश्वर के जन बन गए हैं, वे उन बातों के लिए जो उन्हें परमेश्वर से मिली हैं, उन्हें सौंपी गई हैं, परमेश्वर के भण्डारी हैं, तथा उन्हें परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए वरदानों और योग्यताओं के द्वारा प्रभु के लिए कार्य करना है। परमेश्वर पिता की उन से यह अपेक्षा है कि वे उसके योग्य भण्डारी बन कर ज़िम्मेदारी और ईमानदारी से कार्य करेंगे; और जो ऐसा करेंगे, वे बहुतायत से इनाम भी पाएँगे (लूका 12:42, 44)।

    अब यहाँ पर लूका 12:42 में ध्यान कीजिए कि प्रभु यीशु यह भी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि जिस सेवक को ज़िम्मेदार ठहराया गया था, उससे क्या अपेक्षा रखी गई थी – उसे स्वामी के अन्य सेवकों को समय पर और नियमित उनका भोजन देते रहना था, कि वे भली-भांति पोषित और स्वस्थ रहें, उन्हें किसी बात की कमी न हो, जिससे कि वे स्वामी के लिए उचित रीति से कार्य करते रहें। इस बात पर पौलुस द्वारा इफिसियों की कलीसिया के अगुवों से कही गई बात के सन्दर्भ में विचार कीजिए। जब पौलुस उन से अपनी अंतिम विदाई ले रहा था, यह जानते हुए कि वे अब फिर कभी इस पृथ्वी पर नहीं मिलेंगे (प्रेरितों 20:17-38), पौलुस उन से उनके मध्य उसके द्वारा की गई अपनी सेवकाई के बारे में बात करता है, उन्हें कलीसिया के प्रति उनके दायित्वों को स्मरण दिलाता है, आने वाले दिनों के खतरों को बताता है, कि शैतान किस प्रकार से कलीसिया को हानि पहुँचाने, नष्ट करने के प्रयास करेगा। अपनी सेवकाई तथा लूका 12:42 के हमारे सन्दर्भ में पौलुस दो बार उन से प्रेरितों 20:20, 27 में कहता है कि उसने उन से उनके लाभ की किसी बात को रोक कर नहीं रखा और परमेश्वर की सारी मनसा को उन्हें पूरी रीति से बताया। यद्यपि पौलुस की मुख्य सेवकाई अन्य-जातियों में सुसमाचार प्रचार की थी (रोमियों 15:16), लेकिन क्योंकि वह यह भी जानता था कि परमेश्वर ने उसे अपने भेदो का भण्डारी भी बनाया है, इसलिए उसे उन भेदो को भी विश्वासियों को बताना था (1 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-2)। और इसीलिए उसने किसी भी बात को छिपा कर या रोक कर नहीं रखा; अपनी सेवकाई में लूका 12:42 को पूरा किया। पौलुस का अनुसरण करने में (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:1), प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को भी परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए वरदानों और योग्यताओं का उपयोग कलीसिया की सेवा तथा सभी की भलाई के लिए करना है (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7)।

Being God’s Steward - 3

 

    In the previous article we have seen from David’s instructions to Solomon, as well as from Paul speaking from his own example, that being a steward of God is not reserved for some, neither is it a matter of one’s choice, nor of liking or not liking taking up this responsibility. It is very much an integral part and parcel of being God’s person, of being a Christian Believer. Every Christian Believer has been given some work, some responsibility or the other (Ephesians 2:10); and everyone is a steward of whatever has been given to them by God.

    In Luke 12:35-44, the Lord Jesus, through a parable, told His disciples that they should always remain ready and prepared for His coming again, which could happen unexpectedly, at any time. In the parable, those whom the master, on his return, found ready and watchful, were honored and rewarded by him; and then Lord Jesus applied the scenario in the parable to Himself, with Him being the master. When Peter, seeking further clarification, asks, "Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all people?" (Luke 12:41); and the Lord Jesus clarified it is for all servants of the master (vs 43), i.e., everyone has to be busy and involved in their respective responsibilities. Therefore, all those who are part of God’s household, have become the people of God, they are also God’s stewards for whatever God has given to them, entrusted them with, and have to be working for the Lord with their God given gifts and talents. God the Father expects that they will function as His worthy stewards, responsibly and sincerely; those who do so, will be richly rewarded (Luke 12:42, 44).

    Now note here in Luke 12:42, the Lord Jesus specifies what was expected of the steward made responsible – he was to give the other servants of the master their food, or due nourishment, regularly and timely, to ensure that they remained healthy and well nourished, were not deprived of anything, and therefore, were able to do their work for the master properly. Ponder over this along with what Paul says to the Elders of the Ephesian Church, when he is saying his final good bye to them, knowing they will never meet again on this earth (Acts 20:17-38). Paul speaks to them about his ministry amongst them, reminds them of their responsibilities towards the Church, warns them of the dangers in the days to come, of how Satan will try to disrupt and destroy the Church. Regarding his ministry, in our context of Luke 12:42, Paul twice says to them, in Acts 20:20, 27, that he kept back nothing that was helpful for them and declared to them the whole counsel of God. Although Paul’s primary ministry was preaching the gospel amongst the Gentiles (Romans 15:16), but since he also knew that he had also been made a steward of the mysteries by God, he had to be faithful in sharing those mysteries with the Believers as well (1 Corinthians 4:1-2), and so, he kept nothing back, fulfilling Luke 12:42 for his ministry and stewardship. Emulating Paul (1 Corinthians 11:1), every Christian Believer, as a steward of whatever gifts and talents God has given him, has to use it to serve the Church for the profit of all (1 Corinthians 12:7).

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर की अपेक्षा है कि जो कुछ भी वह लोगों को देता है, वे उसका आदर करें, और उचित रीति से उसका सदुपयोग करें। क्योंकि परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उसने जो हमें सौंपा है, हम उसकी देखभाल और संभाल करें, तो इससे तात्पर्य निकलता है कि जो परमेश्वर ने दिया है उसे हानि पहुँचाने, नाश करने, व्यर्थ समझने, दुरुपयोग करने, निष्फल करने, आदि के शैतानी प्रयास किए जाएंगे। इसलिए हमें परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए वरदान की कीमत पहचाननी है, उसकी देखभाल करनी है, और बड़े ध्यान से शैतानी हमलों से उसकी रक्षा करनी है। अच्छा भण्डारी होने का अर्थ है परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपी गई बात का मेहनत से ध्यान रखना।

    जैसा दाऊद ने सुलैमान से कहा था, वैसा ही पौलुस ने भी कहा है, कि उसे भी उन सभी बातों का जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दी हैं, परमेश्वर के भेदो का भण्डारी बनाया गया है; और भण्डारी होने के नाते, परमेश्वर चाहता है कि वह इस ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह में विश्वासयोग्य हो (1 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-2)। वह आगे चलकर सुसमाचार प्रचार की सेवकाई के सन्दर्भ में कहता है कि उसे यह ज़िम्मेदारी भण्डारीपन के समान सौंपी गई है और उसे हर कीमत पर इसका निर्वाह करना ही है (1 कुरिन्थियों 9:16-17), अन्यथा उस से सम्बन्धित ‘हाय’ को झेलने के लिए तैयार रहना है। जैसे पौलुस के लिए सुसमाचार प्रचार की यह ज़िम्मेदारी थी, वैसे ही अन्य सभी सेवकाइयों के लिए भी वह अपनी ऐसी ही ज़िम्मेदारी समझता था। इसीलिए यह जानते हुए कि उसके जीवन काल का अन्त निकट है, वह बड़ी ईमानदारी और बिना झिझक के कह सका, “मैं अच्छी कुश्ती लड़ चुका हूं मैं ने अपनी दौड़ पूरी कर ली है, मैं ने विश्वास की रखवाली की है। भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:7-8)।

    जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में, और यहाँ पर पौलुस के उदाहरण से देखा है, भण्डारी होना न तो केवल कुछ लोगों के लिए होता है, और न ही बाद में नहीं जोड़ा जाता है। परमेश्वर जब भी किसी को कुछ भी देता है, वह व्यक्ति साथ ही परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए का भण्डारी भी हो जाता है, और उससे अपेक्षा रखी जाती है कि वह इस ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह भी करेगा। मसीह यीशु के समर्पित, प्रतिबद्ध विश्वासी के लिए भण्डारी होने की इस ज़िम्मेदारी को स्वीकार करने अथवा इनकार करने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता है। उसे तो हर कीमत पर या तो उसका निर्वाह करना है, अन्यथा उससे संबंधित ‘हाय’ को झेलने के लिए तैयार रहना है, जैसा कि पौलुस ने सुसमाचार प्रचार के अपने भण्डारीपन के बारे में कहा।

    अब ज़रा सोचिए, वास्तविकता में, हम मसीही विश्वासी पौलुस से कहीं बेहतर स्थिति में हैं, किन्तु अपने कार्यों में उससे बहुत अधिक निम्न हैं। पौलुस के पास केवल पवित्र आत्मा था, उसकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन के लिए, और सीखने के लिए केवल पुराने नियम के पुस्तकें थीं। उसके जीवन काल और सेवकाई के समय में नए नियम में सम्मिलित की जाने वाली पुस्तकें अभी लिखी ही जा रही थीं; वे अभी संकलित कर के नए नियम के रूप में नहीं आईं थीं, बाइबल अभी पूर्ण नहीं थी। यात्रा करना और संपर्क करना, अन्य स्थानों को सन्देश भेजना आदि, बहुत कठिन और जोखिम भरे कार्य थे; किन्तु इस कारण पौलुस कभी रुका नहीं। आज, हमारे पास सम्पूर्ण बाइबल है, सभी पुस्तकें लिखी और संकलित कर ली गई हैं। हमारे पास विभिन्न अनुवाद भी हैं, अलग-अलग भाषाओं में भी और एक ही भाषा में भी। हमारे पास बाइबल अध्ययन में सहायता के लिए कई प्रकार की सहायता उपलब्ध है, जैसे की व्याख्याएँ, शब्दकोष, नक़्शे, कान्कॉर्डन्स, तथा कई अन्य प्रकार के संसाधन, जो इंटरनेट पर तथा छपे हुए दोनों तरह से उपलब्ध हैं, इंटरनेट पर बहुत से संसाधन मुफ्त भी हैं तथा आसानी से उपलब्ध भी हैं; तथा अनेकों बाइबल कॉलेज, सेमनरी, तथा शिक्षा के अन्य स्त्रोत, आदि, सभी उपलब्ध हैं। संपर्क करने और सन्देश भेजने के लिए हमें एक से दूसरे स्थान जाने की भी आवश्यकता नहीं रह गई है; इलेक्ट्रोनिक उपकरणों ने सँसार के हर भाग से तुरंत ही संपर्क करना सहज कर दिया है। और निःसंदेह, प्रत्येक विश्वासी के पास, उसकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन के लिए परमेश्वर का पवित्र आत्मा तो है ही। पौलुस की तुलना में, आज के विश्वासियों के पास केवल एक ही बात की कमी है, किसी भी कीमत पर परमेश्वर का विश्वासयोग्य भण्डारी होने की इच्छा, परमेश्वर के लिए उपयोगी होने की लालसा, परमेश्वर के कार्य के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध होना। और इस एक बात की कमी ने पौलुस की और हमारी सेवकाई में इतना बड़ा अन्तर डाल दिया है। आज हम में से कितने हैं, जो यह जानते हुए कि अन्त बहुत निकट है, पौलुस के साथ खड़े होकर वह कह सकते हैं जो पौलुस ने 2 तीमुथियुस 4:7-8 में कहा है?

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Being God’s Steward - 2

 

    In the previous article we have seen that God expects His people to respect and properly utilize what He gives them. Since God wants us to be careful to take care or safeguard what He has entrusted to us, it implies that there will be satanic attempts to damage, destroy, ignore, consider vain, or misuse, render infructuous what God has given. Therefore, God's gift has to be valued, looked after and kept secure from satanic attacks. To be a good Steward means to properly and diligently keep charge of what God has given.

    As David said to Solomon, Paul also says that he has been made a steward of everything, all the mysteries of God, that God has given him; and as a steward, God expects him to be faithful in fulfilling this responsibility (1 Corinthians 4:1-2). He goes on to say regarding his stewardship of preaching the gospel, that come what may he has to fulfil this responsibility (1 Corinthians 9:16-17), or else suffer the associated woe of not preaching the gospel. This responsibility that Paul felt regarding the gospel, was actually a hallmark of his entire ministry, in all its aspects. That is why at the end of his lifetime, awaiting the end of his physical life, which he knew was coming soon, he could say quite honestly and without any hesitation, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

    As seen in the previous article, and through Paul’s example here, stewardship is neither added later nor meant only for some. When God gives anything to anyone, that person simultaneously also becomes a steward of whatever has been given by God to him, and is expected to fulfil this responsibility. For a committed follower of Christ Jesus, there is no question of accepting or rejecting this stewardship. At any cost, he has to either fulfil it or get ready to receive the woe of not fulfilling the responsibility of the stewardship, as Paul said about his stewardship of preaching the gospel.

    Come to think of it, actually speaking, we Christian Believers are in a much better position than Paul was, and yet way poorer than him in our performance. Paul only had the Holy Spirit to help and guide him, and just the Old Testament books to learn from. The New Testament was still being written, and the books of the Bible had not been compiled at the time Paul was alive and active in ministry. Travelling and communications were very difficult and risky tasks for him, but that never stopped him from them. We now have the complete Bible; all the books have been written and compiled. We have various translations, in different languages, as well as in a given language. We have various Bible study helps e.g., Commentaries, Dictionaries, Maps, Concordances, and many other resources, both online and offline, the online resources are often free and freely available; besides innumerable Bible Colleges, Seminaries, and other learning facilities. For communication, we need not even travel from one place to another; electronic communication methods have enabled us to communicate across the globe, instantaneously. And of-course, the Holy Spirit is still there with every Christian Believer to help and guide him. The only thing missing in today’s Believers in comparison to Paul, is the will, the desire to be useful for God, the commitment to be God’s faithful steward at any cost. And this one thing is what makes all the difference between Paul’s ministry and ours. How many of us will be able to stand up with Paul and say what he did in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, knowing the end is at hand?

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
