परमेश्वर के वचन से उचित व्यवहार – 11

 

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि अपनी सेवकाई में प्रचार करने या शिक्षा देने के लिए, पौलुस केवल वही कहता था जो परमेश्वर उसे कहने के लिए देता था। हमने यह भी देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य में होकर, अविश्वासियों, नए विश्वासियों, और विश्वास में अपरिपक्व लोगों से वह प्रभु यीशु मसीह और उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, अर्थात सुसमाचार की बात करता था; और जो परिपक्व विश्वासी थे, उन से परमेश्वर द्वारा पहले से कही गई, किन्तु अभी तक समझने में गुप्त रखी गई भेद की बातों के बारे में बात करता था। लेकिन दोनों ही स्थितियों में, वह परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बात के अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहीं बोलता था। आज हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:6 से पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य पक्ष को, पौलुस ही के उदाहरण से देखेंगे।

इस पद में अपने आप को तथा अपुल्लोस को उदाहरण के समान प्रस्तुत करते हुए, पौलुस कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों से कहता है कि वे उनके जीवनों से सीखें; और उनके सामने दो बातें रखता है, जिन पर उन्हें ध्यान देना चाहिए। पहली, परमेश्वर के वचन से उपयोग और व्यवहार के लिए कुरिन्थुस के विश्वासियों को पौलुस तथा अपुल्लोस के जीवन से सीखना था कि जो भी लिखा हुआ है, उस से आगे न बढ़ें; हम इसके बारे में अगले लेख में देखेंगे। दूसरा, मण्डली में से किसी को भी किसी एक सेवक के पक्ष में तथा दूसरे के विरोध में किसी प्रकार का कोई गर्व नहीं करना चाहिए, उनमें से किसी को भी दूसरे से बढ़कर नहीं देखना या समझना चाहिए। पौलुस ने इस पद में इस दूसरी बात के विषय में जो कहा है, उसके बारे में वह पहले ही 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:4-8 में लिख चुका था। वह बता चुका था कि दोनों, पौलुस और अपुल्लोस, परमेश्वर के सेवक थे, सेवकाई के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा ही नियुक्त किए गए थे। जैसे-जैसे वे अपनी सेवकाई को उचित रीति से पूरा करते जाते थे, परमेश्वर उन्हें और उनकी सेवकाई को आशीषित करता जाता था, उन्हें बढ़ाता जाता था।

 

इसलिए किसी व्यक्ति के द्वारा उनमें से एक को, दूसरे से बढ़कर समझने या महत्व देने का कोई औचित्य नहीं था। न तो पौलुस, और न ही अपुल्लोस, अपनी किसी योग्यता के कारण सफल होते थे; दोनों ही परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में होकर काम करने और उससे आशीष पाने के कारण ही सफल थे। इसलिए उनकी सेवकाई की सफलता का सारा श्रेय और सारी महिमा परमेश्वर ही की थी, उन दोनों में से किसी की नहीं। इसलिए यदि कोई व्यक्ति उनमें से किसी एक को दूसरे से बढ़कर समझाता, तो यह उसके वास्तविकता से अनजान होने का, तथा व्यर्थ बातों के पीछे जाने वाला होने का चिह्न था। उसे जो करना चाहिए था, वह था, दोनों पौलुस और अपुल्लोस के लिए परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करे, और उन दोनों से ही सीखे; न कि किसी एक को दूसरे से बढ़कर समझे (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:10-13)।

परमेश्वर किसी भी आधार पर अपनी कलीसिया, जो प्रभु यीशु की देह और उसकी दुल्हन है, में किसी भी विभाजन या गुट बनाने को बड़ी कड़ाई से मना करता है। प्रभु परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के पीछे चलने की बजाए किसी मनुष्य का पक्ष लेकर उसके पीछे चलने के कारण यह करना तो कदापि नहीं होना है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस प्रेरित के द्वारा कहा है कि जो लोग इस तरह से विभाजन करने, और गुट बनाने वाले हैं, वे अपरिपक्व, शारीरिक, और परमेश्वर की संतान के समान नहीं वरन मात्र सांसारिक मनुष्यों के समान व्यवहार करने वाले हैं (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:1-4)। इसलिए, परमेश्वर के वचन के आधार पर, व्यक्ति की आत्मिक परिपक्वता की बाइबल के अनुसार एक पहचान उसकी प्रवृत्ति है – क्या वह परमेश्वर के वचन का आज्ञाकारी है उसका अनुसरण करता है, अथवा मनुष्य और मनुष्यों की शिक्षाओं का आज्ञाकारी और अनुसरण करने वाला है? चाहे वह मनुष्य परमेश्वर का कोई विख्यात सेवक ही क्यों न हो।

 

प्रकट है कि यही बात इतनी ही सत्य उनके लिए भी होगी जो परमेश्वर की कलीसिया में विभाजन करते और गुट बनाते हैं, ऐसा करना प्रोत्साहित करते हैं। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:18-19 से देखते हैं कि इस प्रवृत्ति का मुख्य कारण है लोगों का मण्डली में प्रमुख स्थान और उच्च पहचान मिलने की लालसा रखना। और इस प्रवृत्ति का होना इस बात का सूचक है कि ऐसे लोग प्रभु को पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी नहीं हैं, बल्कि व्यक्तिगत लाभ, स्थान, और स्वार्थ-सिद्धि के लिए प्रभु को उपयोग करना चाहते हैं, जिसके विरुद्ध वचन में कड़े शब्दों में कहा गया है (1 यूहन्ना 2:15-17)।

तो, पौलुस द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार से हमें एक और शिक्षा मिलती है कि हम इस बात का ध्यान रखें कि परमेश्वर के वचन का उपयोग और उससे व्यवहार करते समय हम किसी भी रीति से कलीसिया में कोई विभाजन करने या गुट बनाने वाले या इस प्रवृत्ति को बढ़ावा देने वाले न हो जाएँ, और अपने जीवनों को उदाहरण बनाकर कलीसिया में भी इसी बात को सिखाएँ।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 11

 

In the previous article we had seen that to preach or teach in his ministry, Paul only spoke that which God had given him to say. We also saw that under the guidance and the power of the Holy Spirit, to unbelievers, novices, those immature in faith, he spoke about the Lord Jesus and Him crucified, i.e., about the gospel; and to those mature, he spoke about the mysteries of God, which God had ordained earlier, but had not been laid open till now. But in either case, he never spoke anything other than what God had given him to say. Today, using Paul as an example, we will see another related aspect of Paul’s utilization and handling of God’s Word from 1 Corinthians 4:6.

In this verse, Paul using himself and Apollos as examples, exhorts the Christian Believers of Corinth to learn from them; and puts forth two things that they were to take note of. Firstly, in utilizing and handling God’s Word, the Corinthian Believers should learn from Paul and Apollos, not to go beyond what is written; and we will look at this in the next article. Secondly, none of the congregation should get puffed up, or take pride in either of the ministers serving amongst them, favoring one and disregarding the other. This second point, Paul had already talked about in 1 Corinthians 3:4-8, that both of them, Paul and Apollos, were God’s servants, ministers appointed by God. As they fulfilled their God assigned ministry appropriately, God blessed them and their ministry, and gave the increase.

 

Hence there was no sense in any person preferring, or giving importance to one over the other in the Church. Neither Paul nor Apollos was successful because of their own abilities; both were successful because of serving God obediently and being blessed by Him. Therefore, all the glory and credit belonged only to God, not either of them. So, anyone preferring one over the other, would be totally missing the point, and going after a vain thing. The actual thing to do was to thank and bless God for both Paul and Apollos, and learn from both of them; instead of following one or the other (1 Corinthians 1:10-13).

God’s Word strongly forbids any divisions and factions on any grounds, in the Church, the Body and Bride of Christ. Doing this, least of all on grounds of favoring or following men, instead of following the Lord God and His Word, must never be done. God the Holy Spirit, through Paul has said that those who indulge in such factionalism, are immature and carnal, behaving not like the children of God, but like mere men of the world (1 Corinthians 3:1-4). So, on the basis of God’s Word, one Biblical sign of a person’s spiritual maturity is his tendency – whether of following and obeying God's Word, or of following and obeying man and his teachings? Even if that man is a renowned minister of God. 

Evidently, the same is true for those who create and promote divisions and factions in the Church of God. We see from 1 Corinthians 11:18-19, the main cause of this tendency is people wanting to have prominence and recognition in the congregation. Having this tendency is a definite indication that they are not fully submitted and obedient to the Lord, but want to use the Lord for personal gain, position, and profit, something that has been strongly spoken against and warned about (1 John 2:15-17).

So, another lesson that we learn from Paul about utilizing and handling the Word of God is to make sure that through utilizing God’s Word, we do not in any way create or promote divisions and factionalism in the Church, and teach against doing this, by becoming an example for the Church.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम परमेश्वर द्वारा हमें दी गई बातों के योग्य भण्डारी होने, उनका सभी के लाभ और परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिये उपयोग करने (1 पतरस 4:10-11) के बारे में देखते आ रहे हैं। पहले योग्य भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के बारे में देखने के बाद, पिछले लेख से हमने परमेश्वर का गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी होने के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया है। हम देख चुके हैं कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए परमेश्वर ने कोई न कोई कार्य निर्धारित किया ही है (इफिसियों 2:10), उस कार्य को करने के लिए उसे उपयुक्त संसाधन भी उपलब्ध करवाए हैं। प्रत्येक विश्वासी को उन कार्यों को सभी की भलाई, परमेश्वर के राज्य की बढ़ोतरी, और परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिए पूरा करना है (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7; 14:12)। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई इन बातों का परमेश्वर के लिए भण्डारी है; अन्ततः उसे अपना हिसाब प्रभु परमेश्वर को देना होगा (रोमियों 14:12; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10), और उसके द्वारा भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह के अनुसार उसे अपने अनन्त काल के लिए पुरस्कार या प्रतिफल मिलेंगे (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:12-15)।

 

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी मूलतः दो प्रकार से हो सकता है – पहला, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई बातों और जिम्मेदारियों के प्रति लापरवाह और उदासीन होने के द्वारा (मत्ती 25:26-30); तथा दूसरा, भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी को, स्वामी ही होना समझ लेना, और स्वामी द्वारा दिये गये अधिकारों का दुरुपयोग करने लग जाना (लूका 12:45)। पिछले लेख में पहली बात को देख चुके हैं; आज दूसरी - ज़िम्मेदारी के दुरुपयोग के बारे में देखेंगे।

प्रभु यीशु ने लूका 12:35-48 में अपने शिष्यों को प्रभु का भण्डारी होने की शिक्षा दी; उन्हें समझाया कि स्वामी के किसी भी समय अचानक ही वापस आ जाने के लिए वे भले दासों के समान सदा तत्पर और तैयार रहें, अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह में निरंतर लगे रहे हैं, उसके लौटने की प्रत्याशा रखें और बाट जोहते रहें। पतरस द्वारा प्रश्न उठाने पर (पद 41) प्रभु ने ‘विश्वासयोग्य और बुद्धिमान भण्डारी’ (पद 42) के गुण भी बताए (पद 42-44); और फिर गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी के गुण भी बताए (पद 45) तथा उसका परिणाम भी बताया (पद 46)। हमारे विषय के सन्दर्भ में, हमारा मुख्य अभिप्राय पद 45 से है।

दूसरी प्रकार का गैर-ज़िम्मेदार भण्डारी, स्वामी के आने में देर प्रतीत होने का गलत अर्थ लेता है, और अपने आप को ही स्वामी समझने लगता है। वह अनुचित रीति से स्वामी के अधिकार अपना लेता है, और अपने संगी दासों के साथ दुर्व्यवहार करता है। साथ ही उसका व्यक्तिगत जीवन भी भ्रष्ट हो जाता है, वह शारीरिक सुख-विलास की बातों में लग जाता है। जबकि जब प्रभु ज़िम्मेदारी देता है, तो उस ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह अपने स्वभाव और गुणों के अनुरूप किए जाने की अपेक्षा करता है; अर्थात् , उस प्रकार से जैसे प्रभु स्वयं उस कार्य को करता, उस कार्य के सन्दर्भ में जिस प्रकार का व्यवहार प्रभु का होता। आज, हमारे लिए परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने इस उचित रीति से भण्डारी की जिम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह को 1 पतरस 5:1-4 में लिखवाया है। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पतरस द्वारा लिखे गए गुणों को पढ़ने से स्पष्ट है कि कलीसिया के अगुवों को अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों का निर्वाह उस प्रभु के चरित्र और गुणों के अनुसार करना है, जिसने उन्हें यह ज़िम्मेदारी दी है।

भण्‍डारियों के दोनों ही प्रकार से गैर-ज़िम्मेदार होने के पीछे एक ही बात है – उनकी सोच और रवैया, जो उनके स्वामी उनके स्वामी की सोच और रवैये के अनुसार था ही नहीं; उनका जीवन और व्यवहार अपने स्वामी के पक्ष में, उसके अनुसार, था ही नहीं। पहले वाले की सोच में स्वामी द्वारा उसे दिए गए आदर और ज़िम्मेदारी का कोई महत्व ही नहीं था, इसीलिए वह अपने भण्डारी होने के प्रति लापरवाह और उदासीन रहा। दूसरे वाले की सोच में स्वार्थ, अपने व्यक्तिगत हित तथा सांसारिक लाभ के लिए उसे सौंपे गए समय, साधन, और अवसर दुरुपयोग करना था।

 

तात्पर्य यह कि जब तक हम मसीही विश्वासियों की प्रभु और उसके द्वारा दी गई जिम्मेदारियों के प्रति सोच ठीक नहीं होगी, हम प्रभु के भले भण्डारी भी नहीं बन सकेंगे। इसीलिए हम मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए पवित्र आत्मा ने कुलुस्सियों 3:1-2 में लिखवाया है, “सो जब तुम मसीह के साथ जिलाए गए, तो स्वर्गीय वस्तुओं की खोज में रहो, जहां मसीह वर्तमान है और परमेश्वर के दाहिनी ओर बैठा है। पृथ्वी पर की नहीं परन्तु स्वर्गीय वस्तुओं पर ध्यान लगाओ।” यदि हमारा मन, ध्यान, और परिश्रम स्वर्गीय बातों पर नहीं, बल्कि नाशमान सांसारिक बातों पर ही लगा होगा; स्वर्ग में संपत्ति अर्जित करने की बजाए सांसारिक संपत्ति, घर, ज़मीन, आदि पर ही लगा होगा, तो हम अपने आप को अपने स्वामी के आने तथा उसके साथ स्वर्ग में रहने के लिए तैयार कैसे रखेंगे? अपने भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारियों को जानेंगे और उनका ठीक से निर्वाह कैसे करेंगे? यदि हमारी सोच सही होगी, केवल तब ही हम अपने कार्य भी सही करेंगे।

 

अगले लेख में हम भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह के बारे में कुछ और बातें देखेंगे।

Being an Irresponsible Steward - 2

   Since the previous few articles, we have been considering about being worthy stewards of everything that God has given to us, and utilizing the God given things for the benefit of all and the glory of God (1 Peter 4:10-11). Initially we saw about the responsibilities of a worthy steward, and then, since the previous we have begun to consider about being an irresponsible steward of God. We have already seen that God has determined some work or the other for every Christian Believer (Ephesians 2:10), and to help him do that work, God has also made available for him the appropriate resources. Every Believer has to do those works for the benefit of others, for the growth of God’s Kingdom, and for God’s glory (1 Corinthians 12:7; 14:12). Every Christian Believer is God’s steward for what has been given to him; eventually, he will have to give an account to God for it (Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10). According to how he has fulfilled his responsibility of being God’s steward, he will receive his rewards for eternity (1 Corinthians 3:12-15). 

A Believer can be irresponsible in two basic ways – firstly, by being careless and unconcerned regarding what God has given him (Matthew 25:26-30); the second is by assuming that the responsibility of being a steward, is being the master, and misusing the usurped authority (Luke 12:45). In the previous article we have seen about the first one; today we will see regarding the second one - about misusing authority.

The Lord Jesus, in Luke 12:35-48 taught His disciples about being His steward. He taught them that like good servants, they should always remain ready and prepared for the master to come at any time, be continually busy in fulfilling their assigned responsibilities, and they should be found anticipating and waiting for His return. Peter then raised a question (vs. 41), and the Lord gave the characteristics of the ‘faithful and wise steward’ (vs. 42-44); and then also told them about the irresponsible steward (vs. 45) and his outcome (vs. 46). In context of our topic, we are mainly concerned about verse 45.

The second kind of irresponsible steward, misuses the apparent delay in the coming of the master, and starts considering himself as the master. He wrongly usurps the authority of the master, and then starts ill-treating his fellow servants. His personal life also gets corrupted, and he gets involved in things related to physical gratification and pleasures. Whereas, whenever the Lord gives a responsibility, He expects that it be fulfilled in accordance with the Lord’s characteristics and nature, i.e., as the Lord would have done that work, as would have been the Lord’s behavior towards that responsibility. Today, for our benefit, God the Holy Spirit has had this right way of fulfilling responsibilities written in 1 Peter 5:1-4. It is very clear from the manner of doing the Lord’s work as written by Peter, that the Elders and leaders of the Church have to conduct themselves and fulfill their responsibilities according to the characteristics and behavior of the Lord who has given them these responsibilities.

There is one common thing behind both the stewards being irresponsible – their attitude, their thinking, which never was in accordance with their Master’s; they were just not oriented towards him and his ways. The attitude of the first one had no importance for the honor and responsibility entrusted to him by the master, therefore, he remained careless and unconcerned towards it. The attitude of the second one was of being selfish, to misuse the time, resources, and opportunity given to him, for personal gains and for acquiring physical benefits. 

The implication is that unless and until we Christian Believers have a right attitude and thinking towards the Lord and towards the responsibilities He has given to us, we will not be able to become good stewards of God. That is why God the Holy Spirit has had it written for us Christian Believers in Colossians 3:1-2, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” If our hearts, mind, and efforts are not on heavenly things, but on temporal worldly things; instead of acquiring heavenly things, we are inclined towards acquiring material things and wealth on earth; then how can we keep ourselves ready for the return of our Master and be with Him in heaven? How can we know of our responsibilities as His stewards and fulfill them? If our attitude, our thinking is right, then we will also fulfill our responsibilities properly.

I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया के नाम लिखी इस पत्री में जिस पहली गलती को पौलुस संबोधित करता है, वही यहाँ पर उनके द्वारा प्रभु भोज के गंभीर दुरुपयोग का कारण भी है - कलीसिया में गुट-बाज़ी और विभाजन। यह छोटा और महत्वहीन प्रतीत होने वाला पाप - कलीसिया के कुछ लोगों के अन्दर एक ओहदा और पहचान रखने की लालसा, अर्थात, वह स्तर और स्थान चाहना जो परमेश्वर ने उन्हें प्रदान नहीं किया था, शैतान के द्वारा कलीसिया तथा विश्वासियों के व्यक्तिगत जीवनों में  विनाशकारी परिणामों को ले आया। वास्तविकता में, यह पाप वही था जो प्रधान स्वर्गदूत लूसिफर ने स्वर्ग में किया, जिसके कारण उसे निकाल बाहर किया गया और वह शैतान बन गया। मुख्य बात यह है कि कोई भी पाप कभी भी छोटा और महत्वहीन नहीं होता है। प्रत्येक पाप शैतान को दिया गया एक निमंत्रण और उसके लिए खोला गया एक द्वार है कि वह आए और उस पाप को करने वाले व्यक्ति तथा उसमें उसके संगियों के जीवनों में आकर अपने विनाश को कार्यान्वित करे। पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा पौलुस उन्हें 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23 और आगे के पदों में उनके द्वारा प्रभु भोज के दुरुपयोग तथा इस बात के दुष्प्रभावों को सुधारने के बारे में बताता और सिखाता है। संक्षेप में, पौलुस उनके सामने प्रभु यीशु द्वारा प्रभु भोज को स्थापित करने को दोहराता है, और अनुचित रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के दुष्परिणामों को बताता है। किन्तु पद 23 में पौलुस द्वारा कहा गया आरंभिक वाक्य विचार तथा मनन करने के योग्य है, क्योंकि यह हमारे सामने पाप के एक और दुष्परिणाम को उजागर करता है - अभिमान और हृदय की कठोरता।

पौलुस, पद 23 में उन बहकाए गए और गलत मार्ग पर डाल दिए गए विश्वासियों को सुधारने का संबोधन “क्योंकि यह बात मुझे प्रभु से पहुंची, और मैं ने तुम्हें भी पहुंचा दी...” कहने के द्वारा करता है; जिसका तात्पर्य है कि अब वह जो कहने तथा सिखाने जा रहा है वे उसके अपने विचार और समाधान नहीं हैं, परंतु जो प्रभु ने उसे दिया और उन्हें बताने के लिए कहा है। पौलुस, एक प्रेमी और धीरजवंत पिता के समान, अपने आत्मिक बच्चों की सहायता करने और उन्हें शैतान के हाथों, जहाँ उन्होंने अपने आप को फंसा लिया है, से छुड़ाने के प्रयास में लगा हुआ है। किन्तु कुरिन्थियों के विश्वासियों में से कुछ लोग उसकी अनदेखी करने, उसके परामर्श की अवहेलना करने, और उसे उसका स्थान, जो उनके मध्य उसे मिलना चाहिए था नहीं देने में लगे हुए हैं। पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में डेढ़ साल रहकर परिश्रम किया था, उन्हें परमेश्वर का वचन सिखाया था (प्रेरितों 18:1, 11), और उनसे उसका गहरा लगाव भी हो गया था; इसकी तुलना में पौलुस ने थिस्सलुनीकिया में केवल “तीन सबत” ही प्रचार किया (प्रेरितों 17:1-2)। किन्तु जब हम 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 1 अध्याय को पढ़ते हैं, तो कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली की तुलना में उनके गुणों और उनकी सराहना को बहुत उच्च पाते हैं।

पौलुस द्वारा कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी गई दोनों पत्रियों में, वह उन्हें बारंबार याद दिलाता और समझाने का प्रयास करता है, परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए प्रभु के प्रेरित होने के ओहदे को, और उसके आत्मिक अधिकार के बारे में - जिसे उसने उन पर कभी भी नहीं थोपा। परंतु जितना समय पौलुस ने उनके मध्य बिताया था, उनके प्रति जो लगाव उसे हो गया था, और उन लोगों को उसे जानने और समझने का जो अवसर मिला था, उसके कारण पौलुस को यह सब कहने और करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं होनी चाहिए थी, उन्हें स्वतः ही सत्य को समझ लेना चाहिए था। पौलुस इस पत्री का आरंभ उन्हें अपने प्रभु की ओर से प्रेरित नियुक्त किए जाने की बात के साथ करता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:1)। वह 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 में संकेत करता है कि कुछ बात थी जिसके विषय कुरिन्थुस के विश्वासी उसकी कोई गलती कह रहे थे और उसके विरुद्ध विचार बना रहे थे; और 4:1-2 से लगता है कि यह बात पौलुस की सेवकाई और उसके प्रभु का भण्डारी होने से संबंधित थी। फिर पौलुस उन्हें 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:15-21 में उनका आत्मिक पिता होने के अधिकार से उन्हें डाँट लगाता है, और 4:18 में उनमें से कुछ के अंदर पनप रहे घमण्ड का उल्लेख करता है। पौलुस 1 कुरिन्थियों 9:1-2 में फिर से अपने प्रेरित होने और आत्मिक अधिकार रखने को दोहराता है; यहाँ 9:1-18 से प्रतीत होता है कि उस पर अपने स्थान और अधिकार का प्रयोग उन पर निर्भर होकर जीवन जीने, उनके संसाधनों को अपने स्वार्थ के लिए प्रयोग करने का दोष लगाया जा रहा था। वह उनके इस दोषारोपण का घोर विरोध करता है, और उन्हें स्पष्ट करता है कि उनका उसके बारे में यह सोचना निराधार और गलत है, और फिर वह 9 अध्याय के अंत में उन्हें समझाता है कि वह प्रभु का एक अनुशासित सेवक है, और उसे जो करना चाहिए तथा, जो नहीं करना चाहिए, उससे वह भली-भांति अवगत है (9:24-27)। फिर अध्याय 11 के आरंभ में वह उन्हें याद दिलाता है कि उसका आदर्श, जिसका वह अनुसरण करता था, प्रभु यीशु है, और उन्हें भी उसके समान ऐसा ही करना चाहिए (11:1-2), जिससे एक बार फिर यह संकेत मिलता है कि कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया के कुछ लोग उससे और उसकी शिक्षाओं से प्रसन्न नहीं थे, और यही सोचते थे कि वह अपनी ओर से कहता और करता रहता था। अब यहाँ, 11:23 में आकर, वह फिर से यह आवश्यक समझता है कि उन्हें बता दे कि जो कुछ भी वह उन्हें कह और सिखा रहा था, वह उसके अपने विचार नहीं थे, परन्तु उनके लिए प्रभु द्वारा दिया गया संदेश था।

अगले लेख में हम इसी विषय को और आगे बढ़ाते हुए, इस के बारे में साँसारिक तथा आत्मिक लोगों की प्रतिक्रिया में तुलनात्मक भिन्नता के बारे में देखेंगे।

English Translation

The Lord’s Table - Arrogance, an Evidence of Sin (1)

 

       We have earlier seen that the first error that Paul takes up and addresses in this letter to the Corinthians, is the same that he points out as the root cause of their grave mishandling of the Lord’s Table - factionalism and divisions in the Church. The seemingly small and insignificant sin - the desire of some members of the Corinthian Church to have approval and recognition in the congregation, i.e., have a status and position, not accorded to them by the Lord in His Church, allowed Satan to bring in very disastrous consequences in the Church as well as the personal life of the Believers. Actually, this sin was the same that Lucifer as the Archangel committed in heaven, for which he was cast out, and became Satan. The fact of the matter is that no sin is small or insignificant; every sin is an invitation extended to Satan along with an opening provided to him to come in and wreak havoc in the life of the person committing the sin and those joining him in it. Through the Holy Spirit, Paul shows them from 1 Corinthians 11:23 onwards how to rectify the error of their mishandling of the Holy Communion and its consequences. Essentially, Paul recounts to them the Lord’s setting up of the Holy Communion and its purpose, and tells them about the consequences of unworthily participating in the Lord’s Table. But Paul’s opening sentence in verse 23 is worthy of consideration and pondering over, since it brings to our attention another consequence of sin - arrogance and hardening of hearts.

       Paul, in verse 23, begins his correcting the deceived and misled Believers by saying “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you…”, implying that what he is now going to say and teach are not his own thoughts and solution, but what the Lord has told him and asked him to tell them. Paul, like a loving and considerate father, continues to try to help and deliver his spiritual children from the trap of Satan, into which they had fallen; but some amongst the Corinthian Believers continue to ignore him, disregard his advice, and not accord him the place and honor he ought to have had amongst them. Paul had stayed and labored in Corinth for one and a half years (Acts 18:1, 11), teaching them the Word of God and had become attached to them; in contrast he had stayed in Thessalonica for only “three Sabbaths” (Acts 17:1-2). But 1 Thessalonians chapter 1, presents a stark contrast of the qualities and commendations given to the Thessalonian Church in comparison to what we see about the Corinthian Church.

In both the letters written by Paul to the Corinthians, he repeatedly tries to remind and convince them of the status the Lord has given him as the Lord’s Apostle, and of his spiritual authority - which he has refrained from asserting over them. Whereas for the amount of time Paul had spent amongst them, for the attachment he had developed for them, and since they had the opportunity to personally get to know him over this time-period, this should have been something totally unnecessary. Paul begins this letter by telling them of his apostleship from the Lord Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:1). In 1 Corinthians 4:1-5, he indicates some issue for which the Corinthians were wrongly and unfavorably judging him, and it seems from 4:1-2 that it was related to Paul’s ministry and being a steward of the Lord. Paul then in 1 Corinthians 4:15-21, admonishes them as their spiritual father, while pointing out the arrogance of some in 4:18. In 1 Corinthians 9:1-2, Paul again states his apostleship and spiritual authority; here 9:1-18 seem to indicate that he was being accused of using this status and authority, to live off them, to use their resources for his personal benefit. But he vehemently defends himself and clarifies that their thinking about him in this manner is unfounded and false, and ends chapter 9 by pointing out to them that he was a disciplined servant of the Lord, being well aware of what he ought to do and what not to do (9:24-27). Then again, at the beginning of chapter 11, he reminds them that his role model, the one he emulates, is the Lord Jesus, and they too should do the same (11:1-2), which again hints that some in the Corinthian Church were not happy with him nor agreeing with his teachings, thinking that he was doing it on his own. Now, in 11:23 he again feels it necessary to point out to them that what he was teaching and telling them was not from his own side, but was the Lord’s message to them.

In the next article, we will continue with this topic and consider the contrast and difference about this between the worldly and the spiritual people.

A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

यहाँ, यूहन्ना 13:20 में, प्रभु शिष्यों से कोई नई बात नहीं कह रहा है। वह उन्हें यही बात तब भी कह चुका था जब उसने पहली बार उन्हें सेवकाई के लिए भेजा था (मत्ती 10:40-42)। इसके बाद भी अपनी सेवकाई के दौरान प्रभु ने शिष्यों को उनके ईश्वरीय अधिकार और सहारे की बात बताई थी (मरकुस 9:37; लूका 10:16; यूहन्ना 12:44-45)। अब, उसे पकड़ कर क्रूस पर मारे जाने के लिए ले जाए जाने से पहले, प्रभु फिर से उन्हें इस बात को याद दिला रहा है। इस अनुपम आदर और विशेषाधिकार के बारे में प्रभु द्वारा बारंबार शिष्यों को याद दिलाना, उनके लिए और उनके जीवनों में इन बातों के महत्व का सूचक है; और इस बात का भी कि प्रभु के लिए उनकी सेवकाई में भी इसे याद रखना बहुत आवश्यक तथा महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्हें कभी यह नहीं सोचना चाहिए कि उन्हें एक खतरनाक अभियान पर, बिना किसी अधिकार और सामर्थ्य के भेज दिया गया। वरन उनके पास तो सर्वाधिक सामर्थ्य और सृष्टि की सर्वोच्च सहायता और अधिकार है - स्वयं परमेश्वर से।

प्रभु ने अपने लोगों को अपनी सेवकाई की ज़िम्मेदारी सौंपी है (इफिसियों 2:10), उस निर्धारित सेवकाई के लिए प्रत्येक को उपयुक्त आत्मिक वरदान दिए हैं (रोमियों 12:6-8; 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7), और उस सेवकाई को पूरा करने में प्रभु की सामर्थ्य भी प्रभु के शिष्यों के साथ रहती है, उनमें होकर कार्य करती है (प्रेरितों 1:8)। इसलिए प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों को, परमेश्वर के लोग होकर जीने के लिए, कभी भी मनुष्यों से डरने और मनुष्यों के बनाए हुए नियमों के अधीन होने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

किन्तु हमेशा ही कोई भी विशेषाधिकार और ओहदा, और सामर्थ्य बिना उससे जुड़ी हुई जिम्मेदारियों के नहीं मिलते हैं; साथ ही उन जिम्मेदारियों को भी लेना और निभाना पड़ता है। अपनी पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के आरंभिक समय में ही, अपने पहाड़ी उपदेश में, प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों के सामने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया था कि उनसे क्या आशा रखी गई है। उन बातों में से एक थी कि उन्हें “पृथ्वी के नमक” तथा “जगत की ज्योति” के समान जीना है जिससे लोग उनके स्वर्गीय पिता की महिमा करें (मत्ती 5:13-16)।

हम इन विशेषाधिकारों और जिम्मेदारियों के बारे में अगले लेख में भी देखना ज़ारी रखेंगे।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

The Lord’s Table - A Remembrance for Honoring God Given Status & Privileges (1)   

We are seeing from John 13, the events immediately preceding the Lord’s establishing the Holy Communion while celebrating the Passover, using the elements of the Passover. In the last article we saw from verses 18-19 the place in Lord Jesus’s life of going by the Word of God; and how the Lord’s Table should remind those partaking in it to emulate the Lord for this. In John 13:19, the Lord shifts the focus of conversation to something related to the future activities of the disciples. As yet, here in John 13, in the Lord’s conversation with the disciples related to the Passover there had been no allusion to the future ministry of the disciples. But talking of the possible future events, in verse 19, not only does the Lord reassure the disciples that those events will only reaffirm His claims about Himself, but also reassures them of their status and blessings. The Lord knew that they will need to keep all these things in mind in the days to come, when they step out into the world to preach the gospel.

Here, in John 13:20, the Lord is not saying anything new to the disciples. He had already said the same to them when He sent them out the first time for ministry (Matthew 10:40-42). He had reminded them of this divine authority and backing that they had as His disciples, during His earthly ministry as well (Mark 9:37; Luke 10:16; John 12:44-45). Now, just before His being caught and taken for death by crucifixion, He again reminds them of it. The Lord’s repeatedly reminding the disciples of this unique authority and privilege is an indicator of its importance in their lives, and the necessity of the disciples of the Lord to always bear it in mind, when working for the Lord. They should not think of themselves as being sent on a dangerous mission without any authority or backing; instead, they had the highest possible backing, and they had the authorization to fulfil their mission from the highest possible authority of the universe - God Himself.

The Lord has entrusted the responsibility of His ministry to His people (Ephesians 2:10), has given appropriate spiritual gifts to carry out that ministry (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7), and the power from the Lord is always with the people of the Lord, and works through them (Acts 1:8). Therefore, the disciples of the Lord Jesus, when living as the people of God, do not have to fear men or subject themselves to man-made regulations.

But privileges, status, and authority always come with responsibilities, which have to be accepted and fulfilled. Right in the initial stage of His earthly ministry, in His Sermon on the Mount, the Lord had made clear to His disciples, what was expected of them. One of the things they had to do was to serve as “salt of the earth” and “light of the world” so that through them the people of the world would glorify our Heavenly Father (Matthew 5:13-16).

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
