पिछले लेख में हमने प्रश्न "क्या उद्धार पा लेने, प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य बन जाने से व्यक्ति संसार के दुख-तकलीफों, बीमारियों, समस्याओं, आदि से मुक्त हो जाता है, और सांसारिक समस्याओं से निश्चिंत होकर जीवन जीने लगता है?" पर विचार करना, और बाइबल स इसके उत्तर को देखना आरंभ किया था। हमने देखा था कि बाइबल में, सुसमाचारों में, न तो प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने, और न ही प्रभु के बाद मसीही सेवकाई में संलग्न उनके शिष्यों ने कभी ऐसा कोई आश्वासन, ऐसी कोई शिक्षा दी। वरन प्रभु ने भी, और प्रभु के शिष्यों ने भी यह स्पष्ट कर दिया कि मसीही विश्वास का जीवन दुख, क्लेश, सताव, आदि को सहते रहने का जीवन है। इसलिए जो भी सुसमाचार प्रचार यह कहते हुए करते हैं कि मसीही विश्वास में आ जाने से व्यक्ति संसार के दुख-तकलीफों, बीमारियों, समस्याओं, आदि से मुक्त हो जाता है, वह एक मन-गढ़न्त झूठे आश्वासन का प्रचार करते हैं, बाइबल की सच्चाई का नहीं। आज हम इस विषय पर अपने मनन को आगे ज़ारी रखेंगे।  

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में और भी अनेकों पद हैं जो यह दिखाते हैं कि मसीही जीवन संघर्ष का और संसार के लोगों के बैर और विरोध का निरंतर सामना करते रहने का जीवन है; और जो भी प्रभु यीशु के पीछे चलना चाहता है, उसे यह सब सहने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए। किन्तु साथ ही प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को यह परमेश्वर से आश्वासन भी है कि उसकी प्रत्येक परिस्थिति में प्रभु उसके साथ होगा, उसे समझ, शक्ति, और शांति देगा कि वह उन परिस्थितियों का सामना कर सके “मैं ने ये बातें तुम से इसलिये कही हैं, कि तुम्हें मुझ में शान्ति मिले; संसार में तुम्हें क्लेश होता है, परन्तु ढाढ़स बांधो, मैं ने संसार को जीत लिया है” (यूहन्ना 16:33), और उसे उन सब में से भी सुरक्षित निकाल कर लाएगा, और अंततः सब बातें मिलकर प्रभु के जन के लिए भलाई ही को उत्पन्न करेंगी “और हम जानते हैं, कि जो लोग परमेश्वर से प्रेम रखते हैं, उन के लिये सब बातें मिलकर भलाई ही को उत्पन्न करती है; अर्थात उन्हीं के लिये जो उस की इच्छा के अनुसार बुलाए हुए हैं” (रोमियों 8:28)। 

    पूरा नया नियम इस बात का गवाह है कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों को हर स्थान पर, अपनी सारी सेवकाई के दिनों में बहुत से दुखों, क्लेशों, और सताव का सामना करना पड़ा है। जीवन कभी भी उनके लिए सहज और सरल नहीं रहा; वरन जिनके मध्य में होकर उन्होंने प्रभु की सेवकाई की और जिन लोगों की भलाई की, उन्हीं में से उनके बैरियों-विरोधियों ने निकलकर उनके लिए बहुत परेशानियाँ उत्पन्न कीं। किन्तु फिर भी जिसने एक बार प्रभु के प्रेम, कृपा, अनुग्रह, और उद्धार के स्वाद को चख लिया, एक बार जिसने प्रभु की शान्ति और आशीष को अपने जीवन में तमाम कठिनाइयों और मुसीबतों के मध्य में अनुभव कर लिया, जिसने एक बार प्रभु यीशु मसीह की वास्तविकता और खराई को पहचान लिया, फिर संसार के ये क्लेश उसके लिए निराश का नहीं, वरन उस अद्भुत, उत्तम स्वर्गीय आशा का प्रमाण बन गए, जो परमेश्वर ने उसके लिए रखी हुई है, और उस उत्तम आशीष की लालसा रखते हुए वे इन सभी बातों को सहर्ष सहन कर लेते हैं “क्योंकि हमारा पल भर का हल्का सा क्लेश हमारे लिये बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण और अनन्त महिमा उत्पन्न करता जाता है। और हम तो देखी हुई वस्तुओं को नहीं परन्तु अनदेखी वस्तुओं को देखते रहते हैं, क्योंकि देखी हुई वस्तुएं थोड़े ही दिन की हैं, परन्तु अनदेखी वस्तुएं सदा बनी रहती हैं” (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:17-18)। फिर शारीरिक चंगाई का उसके लिए कोई विशेष महत्व नहीं है, क्योंकि वह व्यक्ति जानता है कि एक दिन तो शरीर ने मिटना ही है; और जो भी रोग या अस्वस्थता उसमें है, प्रभु उसमें भी उसकी सहायता करेगा, उसे आशीष देगा “और उसने मुझ से कहा, मेरा अनुग्रह तेरे लिये बहुत है; क्योंकि मेरी सामर्थ्य निर्बलता में सिद्ध होती है; इसलिये मैं बड़े आनन्द से अपनी निर्बलताओं पर घमण्ड करूंगा, कि मसीह की सामर्थ्य मुझ पर छाया करती रहे। इस कारण मैं मसीह के लिये निर्बलताओं, और निन्‍दाओं में, और दरिद्रता में, और उपद्रवों में, और संकटों में, प्रसन्न हूं; क्योंकि जब मैं निर्बल होता हूं, तभी बलवन्‍त होता हूं” (2 कुरिन्थियों 12:9-10)।

किसी भी मसीही विश्वासी को इन परिस्थितियों से घबराने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, “...क्योंकि उसने आप ही कहा है, कि मैं तुझे कभी न छोडूंगा, और न कभी तुझे त्यागूंगा। इसलिये हम बेधड़क हो कर कहते हैं, कि प्रभु, मेरा सहायक है; मैं न डरूंगा; मनुष्य मेरा क्या कर सकता है” (इब्रानियों 13:5-6), और साथ ही प्रभु का अपने विश्वासियों, अपने शिष्यों के लिए यह भी आश्वासन है कि उन्हें उनके सहने की सीमा से बाहर कभी किसी परीक्षा का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा “तुम किसी ऐसी परीक्षा में नहीं पड़े, जो मनुष्य के सहने से बाहर है: और परमेश्वर सच्चा है: वह तुम्हें सामर्थ्य से बाहर परीक्षा में न पड़ने देगा, वरन परीक्षा के साथ निकास भी करेगा; कि तुम सह सको” (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:13)। शैतान और उसके लोग तो हमें निराश करने और गिराने, विश्वास से भटकाने, प्रभु पर संदेह करने के लिए बहुत से प्रयास करेंगे। इसलिए शैतान के द्वारा फैलाई जा रही इन बातों पर ध्यान मत दीजिए। प्रभु के आपके प्रति प्रमाणित किए गए प्रेम, कृपा, और अनुग्रह, तथा उसके द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए जा रहे पाप-क्षमा प्राप्त करने के अवसर के मूल्य को समझिए, और अभी इस अवसर का लाभ उठा लीजिए।

 

आप को पाप से मुक्ति दिलाने और परमेश्वर से मेल-मिलाप करके, उसकी सन्तान बनकर अनन्तकाल तक रहने के लिए प्रभु यीशु ने तो अपना काम कर के दे दिया है; किन्तु क्या आपने उसके इस आपकी ओर बढ़े हुए प्रेम और अनुग्रह के हाथ को थाम लिया है, उसकी भेंट को स्वीकार कर लिया है? या आप अभी भी अपने ही प्रयासों के द्वारा वह करना चाह रहे हैं जो मनुष्यों के लिए कर पाना असंभव है? आपके द्वारा स्वेच्छा से, सच्चे और पूर्णतः समर्पित मन से, अपने पापों के प्रति सच्चे पश्चाताप के साथ आपके द्वारा की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने जाने-अनजाने में, मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता की है, पाप किए हैं। मैं मान लेता हूँ कि आपने क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा मेरे पापों के दण्ड को अपने ऊपर लेकर पूर्णतः सह लिया, उन पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत सदा काल के लिए चुका दी है। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मेरे मन को अपनी ओर परिवर्तित करें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, अपने साथ कर लें” आपका सच्चे मन से लिया गया मन परिवर्तन का यह निर्णय आपके इस जीवन तथा परलोक के जीवन को आशीषित तथा स्वर्गीय जीवन बना देगा। अभी अवसर है, अभी प्रभु का निमंत्रण आपके लिए है - उसे स्वीकार कर लीजिए।

In the previous article we had started to consider the question "By being saved and Born-Again, and becoming a disciple of Lord Jesus Christ, is a person delivered from the worldly problems and pains, from sickness, adverse situations etc. and begins to live a life free of problems of the world?" and seek its answer from the Bible. We had seen that in the Bible, in the gospel accounts, neither the Lord Jesus, nor after the Lord His disciples engaged in Christian Ministry, ever give any such teaching or assurance to anyone. Rather, not only the Lord, but also the Disciples made it very clear that the life of Christian Faith is a life of continually suffering pain, persecution, and problems. Therefore, those who while preaching the gospel say that, after coming into the Christian Faith a person delivered from the worldly problems and pains, from sickness, adverse situations etc. and begins to live a life free of problems of the world preach their own contrived idea and not the facts of the Bible. Today we will continue to further ponder over this topic.  

In God's Word the Bible, there are many other verses that show that the Christian life is a life of struggles, of facing the opposition of the world and persecution from the worldly people; and anyone who wants to follow the Lord Jesus, should be ready to face and suffer all of this. But every Christian Believer also has this assurance from God that in every problem and situation he faces, God will be with him, give him the required wisdom, power, and peace to face those situations, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33), will safely carry him through those circumstances safe and secure, and eventually all things will work together for the good of the follower of the Lord “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

The whole of the New Testament is a witness to this fact that the followers of the Lord Jesus faced a lot of problems, pains, and persecutions during their ministry and Christian service. Life was never easy or convenient for them; rather, the very people amongst whom they served the Lord and did good for them, from those very people many turned against them and created a lot of problems for them. Nevertheless, anyone who has once experienced the Lord’s love, kindness, grace, and salvation, anyone who has experienced the peace and blessings of the Lord Jesus, even in all the hardships and problems he had to face, he who has come to realize the truth and reality of the Lord Jesus Christ, for him these problems and persecutions of the world became not a cause of being despondent, but a proof of the wonderful, excellent heavenly blessings that God has kept for them; and for the hope of those blessings, they continued to suffer all of this with joy “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). For such a person, physical healing has no significance, since he knows that eventually the body will die, someday; and presently whatever illness or weakness he may be having, the Lord will help him through it, and bless him because of it “And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). 

No Christian Believer should get perturbed about these circumstances and situations, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So, we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"” (Hebrews 13:5-6). Moreover, the Lord has also assured His disciples that He will never allow them to be tempted beyond their limits “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). Satan and his people will make many attempts and efforts to discourage us and make us fail and fall, to become weak and distracted in our faith, to doubt the Lord and His Word. But do not get carried away by the things being spread by Satan, but make full use of the opportunity you have to utilize the Lord’s love, kindness, grace, and offer of forgiveness of sins being extended to you. The Lord Jesus has done His part; He has made ready and available salvation with all the benefits freely to everyone; but have you accepted His offer? Have you taken His hand of love and grace extended towards you and the free gift He offers; or are you still determined to do that which no man can ever accomplish through his own efforts?

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा था कि मनुष्यों के पापों के प्रायश्चित और पाप से उत्पन्न हुई समस्याओं के निवारण के लिए जिस सिद्ध पुरुष की आवश्यकता थी, उसके गुणों में से एक था उसका स्वेच्छा से अपने आप को मनुष्य जाति के पापों के लिए बलिदान होने के लिए दे देना। इस संदर्भ में हमने देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने आप को स्वेच्छा से यह बलिदान होने के लिए अर्पित किया, और उन्हें मारे जाने के लिए क्रूस पर चढ़ा दिया गया। इससे पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि शैतान ने प्रभु यीशु की मृत्यु के विषय तुरंत ही अनेकों भ्रम भी फैला दिए जिससे लोगों को लगे कि उनके इस बलिदान की यह गाथा एक काल्पनिक बात है अथवा बढ़ा-चढ़ा कर कही गई बात है, और लोगों का ध्यान उनके इस बलिदान के महत्व एवं महानता से भटक जाए। उनकी मृत्यु से संबंधित भ्रमों को आज इस लेख में हम आगे देखते हैं।

 

    क्रूस की मृत्यु रोमी साम्राज्य के समय में समाज के सबसे निकृष्ट अपराधियों को दी जाती थी, और इसे सबसे अधिक अपमानजनक मृत्यु माना जाता था। क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले अपराधियों को बहुत मारा-पीटा जाता था, कोड़े लगाए जाते थे। उन कोड़ों के सिरों पर नुकीली वस्तुएं लगी होती थीं, जो कोड़े के शरीर पर पड़ने के वेग से खाल के अंदर धंस जाती थीं और जब कोड़े मारने वाला कोड़े को वापस खींचता था तो वे धँसी हुई नुकीली वस्तुएं खाल और माँस को फाड़ते हुए बाहर आती थीं। जब सिपाही यह सब कर चुकते थे, तब उस व्यक्ति को काठ से बना अपना क्रूस, अपनी कोड़ों की मार से चिथड़े हो चुकी पीठ पर लादे हुए क्रूसित होने के स्थान तक जाना पड़ता था, और वहाँ पर उसकी बाहें फैला कर हाथों में से होकर मोटी कीलें क्रूस के काठ में ठोक कर तथा पैरों को एक ऊपर दूसरा रख कर उनमें से भी मोटी कील क्रूस के काठ में ठोक कर उस क्रूस को सार्वजनिक स्थान पर धरती में गाड़कर खड़ा कर दिया जाता था। क्रूस पर चढ़ाए गए अपराधियों के प्राण तुरंत ही नहीं निकलते थे। यह बहुत ही पीड़ादायक मृत्यु होती थी। कोड़ों की मार से उधड़ा हुआ उसका बदन हर सांस के साथ खुरदरे काठ पर रगड़ता रहता था; लटके होने के कारण, शरीर का सारा वज़न कीलों से ठोके हुए हाथों पर आता था, जो हाथों की पीड़ा को असहनीय बना देता था; राहत पाने के लिए यदि अपराधी पैरों का सहारा लेकर उचकने का प्रयास करता तो यही असहनीय पीड़ा फिर पैरों में भी होती, और इस सारी प्रक्रिया में उसका उधड़ा हुआ बदन और भी ज़ोर से क्रूस के काठ पर रगड़ खाता। अर्थात अपराधी कुछ भी करे, वह उसकी पीड़ा को और बढ़ाता ही था, किसी भी रीति से कोई राहत उसे नहीं मिल सकती थी। अंततः थके हुए और लहू बहने से कमज़ोर हो चुके, कीलों से ठुके हुए हाथों के भार टंगे हुए शरीर को सांस लेना भी भारी हो जाता था, और पैरों के सहारे थोड़ा सा उचक कर सांस लेने के प्रयास उसे सांस तो ले लेने देते थे, किन्तु साथ ही उसकी पीड़ा को बहुत बढ़ा भी देते थे। कुछ अपराधियों को इस स्थिति में टंगे हुए, तिल-तिल करके मरने में एक दिन से भी अधिक लग जाता था, और जब तक वो मर नहीं जाते थे, उन्हें क्रूस पर से उतारा नहीं जाता था। प्रभु यीशु ने यह सब जानते हुए भी, इस मृत्यु को स्वेच्छा से स्वीकार कर लिया जिससे हम मनुष्यों को अनन्त-काल की नरक की पीड़ा से बचने का मार्ग बनाकर सेंत-मेंत प्रदान कर सकें।

 

    प्रभु यीशु को दोपहर में क्रूस पर चढ़ाया गया, और उन्होंने लगभग तीन घंटे क्रूस पर टंगे रहने के बाद अपने प्राण त्याग दिए (मत्ती 27:45-50)। क्योंकि यहूदियों की व्यवस्था के अनुसार मृत्यु-दण्ड भुगतने वाले अपराधी की लाश को सूर्यास्त से पहले दफनाया जाता था (व्यवस्थाविवरण 21:22-23), और क्योंकि प्रभु यीशु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से अगला दिन सबत का दिन था जिसमें यहूदी कोई भी कार्य नहीं करते थे, इसलिए प्रभु यीशु की देह को उसी संध्या, सूर्यास्त से पहले दफनाया जाना आवश्यक था। क्रूसित अपराधी की मृत्यु को कुछ शीघ्र कर देने के लिए रोमियों ने एक और पीड़ादायक विधि अपना रखी थी - वे अपराधी की टांगें तोड़ देते थे - पीड़ा भी होती थी, और अपराधी अब सांस लेने के लिए पैरों का बिल्कुल भी सहारा नहीं ले सकता था, शरीर पूर्णतः हाथों में ठुकी हुई कीलों के सहारे लटक जाता था, जो पीड़ा को बढ़ाता था, सांस लेने के लिए छाती को ठीक से फूलने नहीं देता था, जिससे सांस ठीक से नहीं आने पाती थी और व्यक्ति घुटन के अनुभव और तड़पने के साथ कुछ शीघ्र मर जाता था। यही करने सिपाही प्रभु यीशु के पास भी आए, परंतु उसे मरा हुआ पाकर उसकी टांगें तो नहीं तोड़ीं, किन्तु उसकी मृत्यु निश्चित कर लेने के लिए उसकी छाती में भाला मारा, “और इसलिये कि वह तैयारी का दिन था, यहूदियों ने पिलातुस से बिनती की कि उन की टांगे तोड़ दी जाएं और वे उतारे जाएं ताकि सबत के दिन वे क्रूसों पर न रहें, क्योंकि वह सबत का दिन बड़ा दिन था। सो सिपाहियों ने आकर पहिले की टांगें तोड़ीं तब दूसरे की भी, जो उसके साथ क्रूसों पर चढ़ाए गए थे। परन्तु जब यीशु के पास आकर देखा कि वह मर चुका है, तो उस की टांगें न तोड़ीं। परन्तु सिपाहियों में से एक ने बरछे से उसका पंजर बेधा और उस में से तुरन्त लहू और पानी निकला। जिसने यह देखा, उसी ने गवाही दी है, और उस की गवाही सच्ची है; और वह जानता है, कि सच कहता है कि तुम भी विश्वास करो। ये बातें इसलिये हुईं कि पवित्र शास्त्र की यह बात पूरी हो कि उस की कोई हड्डी तोड़ी न जाएगी। फिर एक और स्थान पर यह लिखा है, कि जिसे उन्होंने बेधा है, उस पर दृष्टि करेंगे” (यूहन्ना 19:31-37)।

    किन्तु यहूदी धर्म-गुरुओं को आशंका थी कि प्रभु के शिष्य आकर उसकी देह को उठा ले जाएंगे और कह देंगे कि वह जी उठा है, इसलिए उन्होंने कब्र के मुंह पर एक भारी पत्थर लुढ़का दिया और कब्र को मोहर-बंद करके, वहाँ पहरा बैठा दिया “दूसरे दिन जो तैयारी के दिन के बाद का दिन था, महायाजकों और फरीसियों ने पिलातुस के पास इकट्ठे हो कर कहा। हे महाराज, हमें स्मरण है, कि उस भरमाने वाले ने अपने जीते जी कहा था, कि मैं तीन दिन के बाद जी उठूंगा। सो आज्ञा दे कि तीसरे दिन तक कब्र की रखवाली की जाए, ऐसा न हो कि उसके चेले आकर उसे चुरा ले जाएं, और लोगों से कहने लगें, कि वह मरे हुओं में से जी उठा है: तब पिछला धोखा पहिले से भी बुरा होगा। पिलातुस ने उन से कहा, तुम्हारे पास पहरूए तो हैं जाओ, अपनी समझ के अनुसार रखवाली करो। सो वे पहरूओं को साथ ले कर गए, और पत्थर पर मुहर लगाकर कब्र की रखवाली की” (मत्ती 27:62-66)।

    किसी भी रीति से प्रभु यीशु के क्रूस पर मारे जाने, और दफनाए जाने से संबंधित तथ्य इस मिथ्या धारणा को कोई समर्थन प्रदान नहीं करते हैं कि वे क्रूस पर मरे नहीं थे। थोड़ा रुक कर, उनके स्वेच्छा से यह सब सहना स्वीकार कर लेने और उनकी क्रूर, वीभत्स, अवर्णनीय, अत्यंत पीड़ादायक मृत्यु के बारे में विचार कीजिए। उन्होंने यह सब मेरे और आपके लिए, संसार के सभी मनुष्यों के लिए, हम मनुष्यों की पापी दशा को जानते हुए भी सह लिया, जिससे हम मृत्योपरांत परलोक की अनन्त पीड़ा में न जाएं, वरन उनके साथ स्वर्ग की आशीषों और सुख-शांति में संभागी हों। प्रभु यीशु मेरे और आपकी अंदर-बाहर की वास्तविक दशा को, हमारे द्वारा दिन-प्रतिदिन मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में किए जा रहे सभी पापों और बुराइयों को अच्छे से जानता है, फिर भी हमसे प्रेम करता है, हमें क्षमा करना चाहता है। और यह अनन्तकालीन स्वर्गीय सुख वह हमें सेंत-मेंत दे रहा है, हमसे केवल यह अनुमति चाहता है कि हम उसे हमारे जीवनों में विद्यमान पापों के दुष्परिणामों को दूर करके, उसे हमारे मन और जीवन को स्वच्छ एवं निर्मल कर लेने दें। उसे हम से हमारी कोई भी शारीरिक या सांसारिक बात नहीं चाहिए, उसे केवल हमारा मन चाहिए, जिसे वह पवित्र और शुद्ध करना चाहता है।

       शैतान की किसी बात में न आएं, किसी गलतफहमी में न पड़ें, अभी समय और अवसर के रहते स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से अपने पापों से पश्चाताप कर लें, अपना जीवन उसे समर्पित कर के, उसके शिष्य बन जाएं। स्वेच्छा से, सच्चे और पूर्णतः समर्पित मन से, अपने पापों के प्रति सच्चे पश्चाताप के साथ एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने जाने-अनजाने में, मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता की है, पाप किए हैं। मैं मान लेता हूँ कि आपने क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा मेरे पापों के दण्ड को अपने ऊपर लेकर पूर्णतः सह लिया, उन पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत सदा काल के लिए चुका दी है। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मेरे मन को अपनी ओर परिवर्तित करें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, अपने साथ कर लें।” आपका सच्चे मन से लिया गया मन परिवर्तन का यह निर्णय आपके इस जीवन तथा परलोक के जीवन को स्वर्गीय जीवन बना देगा।

We have seen in the previous articles that the perfect man required to atone for the sins of mankind and provide the solution to the problem of sin, should have some characteristics. One of these characteristics was that he would voluntarily and willingly sacrifice himself for the sins of mankind. We saw in this context that the Lord Jesus Christ offered Himself to be sacrificed on the cross voluntarily, and willingly. We also saw in the previous article that Satan immediately spread lies and deceptions about His death, so that people would not believe in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, instead would take it either as an imaginary story, or as an exaggerated account, and would not ponder over the significance of the Lord’s sacrifice. We will look into some deceptions spread amongst people regarding the death of the Lord Jesus.

    In the days of the Roman empire, the death of the cross was awarded to the worst of criminals, and was considered the most humiliating of all death penalties. The criminals were severely beaten and scourged before being crucified. To scourge them, to the whips sharp objects were tied, and by the force of the whiplash, these sharp objects would get embedded into the skin and flesh of the criminal, and when the soldier scourging the criminal would pull back the whip for the next strike, those sharp objects would tear out the skin and flesh. After they had finished scourging the condemned criminal, he would then be made to bear his wooden cross on his back torn up and raw from the scourging, and walk to the place of crucifixion. There his hands and feet would be spread out on the cross, and nailed with thick nails to the cross, and the cross was made to stand erect in a public place. The crucified criminal did not die immediately. This was a very painful and long-drawn means of inflicting death. With the raw back of the person rubbing against the rough wood of the cross, with every breath, each breath was an agony. Because of the body hanging by the nailed hands, the body weight came onto the hands causing excruciating pain there; and if the man tried to brace himself up by taking the weight of the body onto the feet, the nail in the feet would cause similarly excruciating pain to occur in the feet; all the while his raw, bleeding back would be rubbing against the wood of the cross. So, whatever the crucified criminal did, it would only aggravate his pain, not relieve it. Eventually, exhausted by all this, he would not even be able to take full breaths and he would gradually die over a long period of time, at times, it would take more than a day to die, and they would be taken off the cross only after their death. The Lord Jesus, knowing all this, still willingly suffered this painful death, so that we could be provided with the way to escape the eternal torment of hell.

    The Lord Jesus was crucified in the afternoon, and after about three hours on the cross, He gave up His spirit (Matthew 27:45-50). Because, according to the Law of the Jews, the dead body had to be buried before sunset (Deuteronomy 21:22-23); and the next day was the sabbath day, in which no Jew would do any work, therefore, it was necessary to bury the body of the Lord the same evening before sunset. To hasten the death of the crucified person, the Romans had devised another agonizing method - they would break the legs of the crucified person. This would not only aggravate the pain, but would now also make it impossible for the person to brace himself by his nailed feet. The chest of the person, hanging by the nailed hands, would be stretched by the body weight, and not allow the person to breathe adequately, and the person would soon succumb to this pain and choking sensation. The soldiers had come to do this to the Lord, but when they saw that He had already died, they did not do this, but to ascertain His death, they pierced His chest, “Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of His bones shall be broken." And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."” (John 19:31-37).

    After it was confirmed that the Lord had died, two of His followers asked for His body from Pilate, and before sunset quickly wrapped it in a cloth with about a hundred pounds of mixture of myrrh and aloes and put His body in a nearby tomb “After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby” (John 19:38-42); “Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb” (Mark 15:43-46).

    But the religious leaders were worried that the Lord’s disciples will come and steal away His body, and claim that He has risen from the dead, so they not only rolled a heavy stone on mouth of the grave, but also had it sealed, and put guards to secure the grave, “On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, "Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.' Therefore, command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.' So the last deception will be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard” (Matthew 27:62-66).

    Whichever way you look at it, there is just no support for this concocted story that the Lord did not die on the cross, but walked away from the grave. Please pause for a while, and ponder about His willingly and voluntarily accepting to suffer all of this; think of the cruel, horrific, indescribable painful death He suffered on the cross. He suffered it all for you and me, for the entire mankind, knowing fully well about our sinful condition, yet He did it, so that we could be saved from the eternal torment of hell, and instead enjoy His blessings, peace, and bliss in heaven with Him for eternity. The Lord Jesus knows our factual condition very well, He knows us inside-out, even better than we know ourselves. He very well knows all the thoughts we harbor and deeds that we do, daily; He knows all our sinfulness in all its gory details; and yet He still loves us, still wants to forgive us. He wants to give us this eternal pleasure and happiness, without our having to pay Him anything for it. All He wants from us is the permission, that we will let Him cleanse us, to let Him remove the sins and their effects from our lives, and make our hearts and minds pure and clean. He does not need any of our physical or worldly things; He only wants to have access to our hearts and minds, to make them pure and holy.

    If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    हम उन गुणों को, और उनके कारणों को देखते आ रहे हैं, जो उस सिद्ध मनुष्य में होने चाहिएं जो मनुष्यों के पाप का समाधान और निवारण करने के लिए अपना बलिदान दे। हमने देखा कि ऐसा मनुष्य स्वाभाविक प्रणाली से मानव जन्म लेने वाला नहीं हो सकता है; किन्तु प्रभु यीशु के मानव स्वरूप में अवतरित होकर पृथ्वी पर आने के लिए परमेश्वर ने एक विशेष प्रयोजन किया, और उन्होंने मनुष्य के रूप जन्म तो लिया, किन्तु अन्य सभी मनुष्यों के समान उनके मानव शरीर में पाप का दोष और स्वभाव में पाप करने की प्रवृत्ति नहीं थी। वे पूर्णतः परमेश्वर थे, यद्यपि मनुष्य रूप में अवतरित होते समय उन्होंने अपने आप को अपने परमेश्वरत्व से शून्य कर लिया था; और पूर्णतः मनुष्य भी। उन्होंने सामान्य, साधारण मनुष्यों के समान ही सब कुछ सहते हुए, सभी अनुभवों में से होकर निकलते हुए जीवन बिताया, किन्तु निष्पाप, निष्कलंक, निर्दोष, पवित्र, और सिद्ध बने रहे। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि उन्होंने स्वेच्छा से सभी मनुष्यों के बदले उनके पापों के दण्ड को सहने, यातनाएं सहने और अपने आप को बलिदान करने को स्वीकार किया, और इसके लिए अपने आप को पकड़ लिए जाने दिया। आज हम उनकी मृत्यु के बारे में देखेंगे।

    बहुत से लोगों, और कुछ धर्मों तथा मतों का यह मानना है, कि प्रभु यीशु क्रूस पर नहीं मारे गए, वरन उनके स्थान पर उनके समान दिखने वाला कोई और व्यक्ति क्रूस पर चढ़ा दिया गया, और लोगों ने समझ लिया कि प्रभु यीशु को क्रूस पर मार डाला गया है। यह शैतान द्वारा फैलाए गए उस भ्रम का एक भाग है, जिसके द्वारा उसने प्रभु द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाए गए पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के मार्ग को व्यर्थ और निष्क्रिय दिखाने का प्रयास किया है। लेकिन परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए विवरणों के साथ तुलना करके देखने से इन सभी दावों का खोखलापन तुरंत प्रकट हो जाता है।

 

    प्रभु के पकड़वाए जाने के समय से लेकर, उनके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने तक वे निरंतर पहरे में तथा विभिन्न लोगों की उपस्थिति में रहे; एक से दूसरे स्थान पर ले जाए गए, विभिन्न अधिकारियों के सामने प्रस्तुत किए गए, और अन्ततः रोमी गवर्नर पिलातुस के सामने लाए गए, जहाँ से फिर उन्हें क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने के लिए रोमी सैनिकों को सौंप दिया गया, और उन्होंने उसे यातनाएँ देने के बाद ले जाकर क्रूस पर चढ़ा दिया। दिन के उजाले में वे धार्मिक अगुवों के सामने भी प्रस्तुत किए गए, जिन्होंने उन्हें पहचाना, और उनके मसीह और परमेश्वर का पुत्र होने के बारे में उनसे पूछा (लूका 22:66-71)। इस दौरान उन्हें भयानक यातनाओं, कोड़े खाने, उपहास आदि के अनुभव से भी निकलना पड़ा, जिसे वे चुपचाप बिना कोई प्रतिक्रिया दिए, या कोई अपशब्द कहे सहते रहे। इस पूरी प्रक्रिया में वे कभी अपने विरोधियों और बैरियों की दृष्टि से ओझल नहीं हुए, तो फिर उनके स्थान पर कोई दूसरा कब और कैसे आता; और क्यों? जिन यातनाओं से होकर प्रभु को निकलना पड़ा, उनमें कोई भी अन्य मनुष्य कुछ भी भला-बुरा कह सकता था, कोई पापमय प्रतिक्रिया दे सकता था, जो नहीं हुआ। यदि वह प्रभु यीशु नहीं था तो फिर इन बातों को सहन करने वाला अपनी वास्तविक पहचान बता कर अपने आप को इस हृदय विदारक वेदना से बचा सकता, जो नहीं हुआ।

    यदि यह कहें कि पकड़ने के समय ही कोई गलती हुई, रात के अंधेरे में लोगों ने किसी गलत व्यक्ति को पकड़ लिया, तो इसका भी कोई आधार अथवा प्रमाण नहीं है। उन्हें उनके शिष्य, यहूदा इस्करियोती द्वारा पहचाने जाने के बाद पकड़ा गया था, और उस समय उनके और यहूदा के मध्य अन्य लोगों के सामने वार्तालाप भी हुआ था (मत्ती 26:47-50); इसलिए किसी गलत व्यक्ति के पकड़े जाने की कोई संभावना नहीं थी। उनके पकड़े जाने के समय दो आश्चर्यकर्म भी हुए; एक तो जब पकड़ने आए लोगों ने प्रभु से उनकी पहचान के लिए पूछा, और प्रभु ने कहा कि “मैं ही हूँ” तब उन्हें पकड़ने आए हुए सभी लोग तुरंत स्वतः ही पीछे की ओर गिर पड़े “तब यीशु उन सब बातों को जो उस पर आनेवाली थीं, जानकर निकला, और उन से कहने लगा, किसे ढूंढ़ते हो? उन्होंने उसको उत्तर दिया, यीशु नासरी को: यीशु ने उन से कहा, मैं ही हूं: और उसका पकड़वाने वाला यहूदा भी उन के साथ खड़ा था। उसके यह कहते ही, कि मैं हूं, वे पीछे हटकर भूमि पर गिर पड़े” (यूहन्ना 18:4-6) - जो किसी साधारण मनुष्य के पकड़े जाने पर नहीं हो सकता था। दूसरा, प्रभु के शिष्य, पतरस ने तलवार चलाकर उन लोगों में से एक का कान काट दिया, जिसे प्रभु ने तुरंत चंगा भी कर दिया “और उन में से एक ने महायाजक के दास पर चला कर उसका दाहिना कान उड़ा दिया। इस पर यीशु ने कहा; अब बस करो: और उसका कान छूकर उसे अच्छा किया” (लूका 22:50-51) - यह भी कोई सामान्य जन नहीं कर सकता था।

    इसलिए किसी अन्य जन को उनके स्थान पर पकड़े जाने और क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने का कोई आधार अथवा प्रमाण नहीं है। शैतान द्वारा एक अन्य धारणा प्रचलित की गई है कि प्रभु यीशु क्रूस पर मरे नहीं, बस बेहोश हुए, और बाद में कब्र के ठन्डे वातावरण में होश में आकर, वे कब्र से बाहर आ गए, जिसे उनके शिष्यों ने उनके पुनरुत्थान के रूप में प्रस्तुत कर दिया। इसके बार में हम कल देखेंगे, कि यह बात भी परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु मसीह की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान के विवरण से बिल्कुल मेल नहीं खाती है।

 

किन्तु अभी के लिए, हमारे विचार करने के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण विषय है - यदि वह निष्पाप, निष्कलंक, निर्दोष, पवित्र, और सिद्ध प्रभु मेरे और आपके पापों के लिए घोर यातनाएं सहने और क्रूस की अत्यंत पीड़ादायक मृत्यु सहने के लिए तैयार हो गया, तो क्या हम उससे आशीष और अनत जीवन पाने, नरक की अनन्त पीड़ा से बचने के लिए तैयार नहीं होंगे? वह तो केवल हमारा भला ही चाहता है, जिसके लिए उसने हमारा सारा दुख सह लिया; तो फिर हम क्यों उसके इस प्रेमपूर्ण आमंत्रण को अस्वीकार करें? शैतान की किसी बात में न आएं, किसी गलतफहमी में न पड़ें, अभी समय और अवसर के रहते स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से अपने पापों से पश्चाताप कर लें, अपना जीवन उसे समर्पित कर के, उसके शिष्य बन जाएं।

    We have been looking at the characteristics that are required in that perfect man who can sacrifice himself to atone for the sins of mankind and provide the solution to the problem of sin. We have seen that such a man cannot be born according to the natural manner of men; but for the Lord Jesus to be incarnated as man and be born on earth, God had made a special provision. Though He was born as any other man, yet in His human body there was no sin, nor any effect of sin. He was fully God, but had emptied Himself of His divinity at the time of being born on earth; and was fully man as well. He lived His life like any other common man of His time, passing through those same experiences, suffering the same problems as any other person, yet always remained sinless, spotless, blameless, holy, and perfect. We saw in the previous article that He voluntarily suffered the punishment for the sins of all mankind, suffered their afflictions, allowed Himself to be caught and tortured, and let Himself be sacrificed for them all. Today, we will look into His death.

    Many people, some religions, and certain sects have a belief that the Lord Jesus did not die on the cross, but somebody who appeared to be like Him was crucified in His place, and people believed that Lord Jesus had died on the cross. This notion is a part of the deception spread by Satan through which he tries to nullify the work of the Lord Jesus accomplished on the cross, to render vain the Lord’s sacrifice to atone for the sins of mankind and make available the way to salvation. But the hollowness of all these claims becomes apparent as soon as we see them in light of the details given in God’s Word, the Bible.

    Since the time of His being caught, till His crucifixion, the Lord had continually remained under guard and surrounded by His detractors; He was taken from one place to another, was produced before different officials, even before the Roman Governor, from where He was handed over to the Roman soldiers, who after torturing Him took Him away to be being crucified. In the light of the day, He was also produced before the religious leaders, they recognized Him to be who He was, and questioned Him about His being the Messiah and the Son of God (Luke 22:66-71). During all this, He was also subjected to severe torture, being whipped and humiliated; and He went through it all silently, without any retaliation, without any harsh words coming from His mouth. Throughout all that He was being made to go through, He was never out of sight of His opponents and enemies for even a moment; so, how and when could somebody have been substituted to take His place? All that the Lord Jesus had to suffer before being crucified, any other human being suffering all that would have reacted in some sinful manner against his tormentors, which never happened. Moreover, if the person being tormented was not actually the Lord, then he could have spoken up, stated his true identity, and saved himself from this undeserving and unnecessary excruciating torture and pain; which never happened.

    If it is argued that there was some error at the time of taking the Lord into custody, people caught the wrong person in the darkness of the night, then this too is a baseless statement, without any proof. He was caught after he had been identified by His disciple, Judas Iscariot; and at that time, a conversation between Him and Judas in the presence of the people had also taken place (Matthew 26:47-50); therefore, there is no possibility that a wrong person had been taken into custody. At the time of His being caught, two miraculous events also took place; one was that when those who had come to catch Him asked Him about His identity, the Lord responded, “Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, "Whom are you seeking?" They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am He." And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them.  Now when He said to them, "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground” (John 18:4-6) - which was something that could never have happened if an ordinary person had been mistakenly caught. Secondly, one of the Lord’s disciples, Peter, used a sword, and cut off the ear of one of those who had come to catch Him, and the Lord healed that person immediately, “And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him” (Luke 22:50-51) - this too no ordinary man could have done.

    Besides this, during the daytime, and at the time of His being crucified, the people standing there and the religious leaders recognized that it was the Lord Jesus Christ, and they mocked Him for His claims of divinity, “And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God." The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself."” (Luke 23:35-37). Then, He also gave the responsibility of taking care of His mother to His disciple John “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home” (John 19:25-27); which is something no one else would do.

 

    Therefore, there is no basis or proof of someone else having been caught instead of Him, or having been crucified in His place. Another wrong notion spread by Satan is that the Lord Jesus did not die on the cross but only became unconscious and only appeared to be dead on the cross; in the cool environment of the tomb, He revived, and walked out of the tomb, which His disciples claimed as the Lord being resurrected. We will see about this in the next article, and see how this too cannot stand the scrutiny in light of all that is written in God’s Word the Bible about the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

    

    But for now, we have another very important thing to ponder over - if that sinless, spotless, blameless, holy, and perfect man, the Lord Jesus, was willing to suffer such excruciating torture and suffer the unimaginably painful death of the cross for my sins and yours, then why should we not accept His offer of eternal life and blessings, and consent to be saved form the torments of hell for eternity? He only wants our benefit, to only do good for us; and for this He suffered all the pain; so then why should we not accept His loving invitation He is extending to us? Do not let Satan deceive you through his smooth-talks, do not get carried away in any contrived misrepresentations or misconceptions. While you have the time and opportunity now, surrender your life to Him and agree to become His obedient disciple.

    If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
