पिछले लेख से हमने बहुत लोगों द्वारा बहुधा उठाए जाएं वाले प्रश्न, "क्या कभी गँवाए न जा सकने वाले अनन्त उद्धार के सिद्धांत में, बिना किसी भय के पाप करते रहने की स्वतंत्रता निहित नहीं है?" पर विचार करना आरंभ किया था। हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर भी इस संभावना से अवगत है, और उसने अपने इस प्रावधान के दुरुपयोग किए जाने को रोकने के लिए उपयुक्त प्रावधान किए हैं। हर एक पाप के दुष्परिणाम हैं, इस  पृथ्वी पर भी और परलोक में भी। इस पृथ्वी पर पाप का दण्ड भुगतने से संबंधित चर्चा कुछ लंबी है, इसलिए उसे हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे; आज हम परलोक के जीवन से संबंधित पाप के प्रभाव को देख लेते हैं। 

पाप का प्रभाव प्रत्येक मनुष्य के परलोक के जीवन पर भी पड़ता है। पापों की क्षमा पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, इस पृथ्वी पर प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में उसकी उपयोगिता के लिए बिताए गए जीवन के अनुसार, स्वर्ग में आदर और प्रतिफल भी मिलेंगे “भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:8)। किन्तु इस आज्ञाकारिता के साथ ही, पृथ्वी पर उसके द्वारा की गई परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता तथा पाप उसके इन प्रतिफलों को बिगाड़ता भी रहता है। स्वर्ग में मनुष्य को मिलने वाले प्रतिफल इन दोनों - भले और बुरे के कुल योग के अनुसार दिए जाएंगे। किन्तु ये आदर और प्रतिफल मिलने से पहले प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन के प्रत्येक कार्य की बहुत बारीकी से जाँच भी की जाएगी, “क्योंकि अवश्य है, कि हम सब का हाल मसीह के न्याय आसन के सामने खुल जाए, कि हर एक व्यक्ति अपने अपने भले बुरे कामों का बदला जो उसने देह के द्वारा किए हों पाए।” (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10); “क्योंकि वह समय आ पहुंचा है, कि पहिले परमेश्वर के लोगों का न्याय किया जाए, और जब कि न्याय का आरम्भ हम ही से होगा तो उन का क्या अन्त होगा जो परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार को नहीं मानते? और यदि धर्मी व्यक्ति ही कठिनता से उद्धार पाएगा, तो भक्तिहीन और पापी का क्या ठिकाना?” (1 पतरस 4:17-18)। 

यहाँ पर अक्सर लोग परमेश्वर द्वारा अंगीकार किए गए पापों को पीठ के पीछे फेंक देने, काली घटा के समान मिटा देने (यशायाह 38:17; 43:25; 44:22), आदि प्रतिज्ञाओं का हवाला देकर यह प्रमाणित करना चाहते हैं कि जिन पापों को परमेश्वर ने क्षमा कर दिया है, उनका कोई हिसाब नहीं लिया जाएगा। किन्तु उनकी यह धारणा, वचन की सही व्याख्या और शिक्षा के अनुकूल नहीं है। यह स्वयं में एक विस्तृत विषय है, जिसे हमने हाल ही में सम्पन्न हुई व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित लेखों की शृंखला में, इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई छः में से छठी बात, "अन्तिम न्याय" पर चर्चा के दौरा विस्तार से देखा और समझा था।   

मनुष्य के पाप से उसके परलोक के जीवन पर पड़ने वाले प्रभाव विषय से संबंधित कुछ बाइबल के पदों को देखते हैं: 

* हर पाप, हर अनाज्ञाकारिता, मसीही विश्वासी के प्रतिफलों को खराब करता है; और जिसका जीवन ऐसा रहा होगा कि उसकी लापरवाही और पापों ने उसके प्रतिफलों को या तो अर्जित ही नहीं होने दिया, अथवा बिगाड़ कर समाप्त कर दिया, वह फिर अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्ग में खाली हाथ ही प्रवेश करेगा और रहेगा, “तो हर एक का काम प्रगट हो जाएगा; क्योंकि वह दिन उसे बताएगा; इसलिये कि आग के साथ प्रगट होगा: और वह आग हर एक का काम परखेगी कि कैसा है। जिस का काम उस पर बना हुआ स्थिर रहेगा, वह मजदूरी पाएगा। और यदि किसी का काम जल जाएगा, तो हानि उठाएगा; पर वह आप बच जाएगा परन्तु जलते जलते” (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:13-15)। 

* न केवल कार्यों का, वरन हर एक मनुष्य को अपनी हर व्यर्थ बात, हर शब्द का भी हिसाब देना होगा, “और मैं तुम से कहता हूं, कि जो जो निकम्मी बातें मनुष्य कहेंगे, न्याय के दिन हर एक बात का लेखा देंगे। क्योंकि तू अपनी बातों के कारण निर्दोष और अपनी बातों ही के कारण दोषी ठहराया जाएगा” (मत्ती 12:36-37)। 

     * परमेश्वर मसीही विश्वासियों की बातचीत को ध्यान से सुनता है और उसके सम्मुख उन बातों का लेखा रखा जाता है, “तब यहोवा का भय मानने वालों ने आपस में बातें की, और यहोवा ध्यान धर कर उनकी सुनता था; और जो यहोवा का भय मानते और उसके नाम का सम्मान करते थे, उनके स्मरण के निमित्त उसके सामने एक पुस्तक लिखी जाती थी” (मलाकी 3:16)। 

इसलिए कोई भी यह न समझे कि उद्धार पाने के बाद पाप करने से उसे अब कोई हानि नहीं होगी। परमेश्वर मूर्ख नहीं है, कि मनुष्य उद्दंड होकर उसकी उदारता, कृपा, और प्रेम का दुरुपयोग कर ले और परमेश्वर बस एक मूक दर्शक ही बनकर मनुष्य द्वारा उसकी भली मनसा का अनुचित लाभ उठाते हुए देखता रह जाए। इसलिए शैतान के द्वारा फैलाई जा रही इन व्यर्थ और मिथ्या बातों पर ध्यान मत दीजिए। प्रभु के आपके प्रति प्रमाणित किए गए प्रेम, कृपा, और अनुग्रह, तथा उसके द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए जा रहे पाप-क्षमा प्राप्त करने के अवसर के मूल्य को समझिए, और अभी इस अवसर का लाभ उठा लीजिए। प्रभु यीशु ने तो अपना काम कर के दे दिया है; किन्तु क्या आपने उसके इस आपकी ओर बढ़े हुए प्रेम और अनुग्रह के हाथ को थाम लिया है, उसकी भेंट को स्वीकार कर लिया है? या आप अभी भी अपने ही प्रयासों के द्वारा वह करना चाह रहे हैं जो मनुष्यों के लिए कर पाना असंभव है।

आपके द्वारा स्वेच्छा से, सच्चे और पूर्णतः समर्पित मन से, अपने पापों के प्रति सच्चे पश्चाताप के साथ आपके द्वारा की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने जाने-अनजाने में, मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता की है, पाप किए हैं। मैं मान लेता हूँ कि आपने क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा मेरे पापों के दण्ड को अपने ऊपर लेकर पूर्णतः सह लिया, उन पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत सदा काल के लिए चुका दी है। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मेरे मन को अपनी ओर परिवर्तित करें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, अपने साथ कर लें” आपका सच्चे मन से लिया गया मन परिवर्तन का यह निर्णय आपके इस जीवन तथा परलोक के जीवन को आशीषित तथा स्वर्गीय जीवन बना देगा। अभी अवसर है, अभी प्रभु का निमंत्रण आपके लिए है - उसे स्वीकार कर लीजिए।

Since the previous article we have started considering the often raised question, "In the doctrine of eternal salvation, one that cannot ever be lost, isn’t the freedom to continue to sin with impunity implied?" We had seen that God is well aware of this possibility, and has put in place appropriate measures to deal with the misuse of this provision of His. Every sin has a harmful effect, both, in this world, as well as the next. The discussion about suffering the consequences of sin in this earthly life is a long one, and we will look into it in the next article. Today we will look at the effects of sin on the afterlife, i.e., the eternal life after a person dies and leaves this earth.

The effects of sin also come upon man’s afterlife, i.e., his spirit’s life, after his physical body’s death on earth. For the Christian Believer who has received forgiveness of sins, according to the life of obedience he has lived towards the Lord while on earth, how useful he has been on earth for the Lord, he will get honor and rewards in heaven “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). But along with his obedience, his disobedience towards the Lord and the sins committed here on earth, also keep adversely affecting those heavenly rewards. Eventually in heaven, he will get the rewards according to the net result of his good and bad deeds, his life of obedience and utility for the Lord and his life of disobedience and creating problems for the Lord. These rewards will be given after a very minute and thorough scrutiny of each Believer’s life, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10); and “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"” (1 Peter 4:17-18). 

At this point people usually quote the promises of God about casting the confessed sins behind His back, wiping them away like a dark cloud (Isaiah 38:17; 43:25; 44:22), and try to prove that there will not be any accountability for the sins that have once been forgiven. But their this concept and understanding is not in accordance with the correct interpretation and teachings of the Word. This in itself is a long topic, and we have considered it in detail in a recently concluded series of articles on Practical Christian Living, when we were considering "Eternal Judgment," the sixth of the six Elementary Principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2.    

 

Let us look at some more verses from the Bible about the effects of sin on man's afterlife:

* Every sin, every disobedience spoils the rewards of the Christian Believer; and the person whose life has been one of carelessness and waywardness, then his sins could either not have allowed any heavenly rewards to get accumulated, or may have even eaten away all his heavenly rewards, and then though he will enter into heaven, but will remain empty handed for eternity, “each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire” (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

* Every person will not only have to give an account of everything he has done, but also give an account of every vain talk and words spoken by him, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."” (Matthew 12:36-37).

* God very carefully listens to the conversations of the Christian Believers, and they are recorded before Him “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name” (Malachi 3:16).

Therefore, let no one think that sinning after being saved has no consequences, there will be no harm. God is not a fool and cannot be mocked; no man can take for granted and misuse His grace, benevolence, kindness, and love, and get away with it lightly; God will not remain a helpless, silent spectator to man making a mockery of His grace. Therefore, do not be beguiled and carried away by these false notions and unBiblical teachings being spread by Satan. Understand the value and importance of the love and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus to redeem you of your sins. The Lord Jesus has done His part; He has made ready and available salvation with all the benefits freely to everyone; but have you accepted His offer? Have you taken His hand of love and grace extended towards you and the free gift He offers; or are you still determined to do that which no man can ever accomplish through his own efforts?

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

हम पिछले दो लेखों से प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा सेंत-मेंत उपलब्ध करवाए गए पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार से संबंधित कुछ सामान्यतः उठाए जाने वाले प्रश्नों को देख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि उद्धार अनन्तकालीन है, कभी खोया अथवा गंवाया नहीं जा सकता है। उद्धार गँवाने की बात परमेश्वर के वचन और उसके चरित्र तथा गुणों से कदापि मेल नहीं खाती है, वरन उनके विरुद्ध है। किन्तु कुछ लोग यह विचार रखते हैं कि यदि मनुष्य धार्मिकता का जीवन न जीए, और पाप करे, तो फिर उसका उद्धार जा सकता है। साथ ही वे यह भी तर्क भी देते हैं कि यदि उद्धार कभी नहीं जा सकता है, तब तो परमेश्वर ने मनुष्यों को पाप करने का लाइसेंस दे दिया है - एक बार उद्धार पा लो, और फिर उसके बाद जैसा चाहो वैसा करो, क्योंकि उद्धार तो जाएगा नहीं, स्वर्ग तो हर हाल में मिलेगा ही। किन्तु यह भी मनुष्यों को भरमाने के लिए, और प्रभु यीशु के सिद्ध और पूर्ण कार्य में मनुष्यों की अपने ही प्रयासों की धार्मिकता और कर्मों को मिलाने की शैतान द्वारा फैलाई जाने वाली एक गलत शिक्षा, एक गलत धारणा है, और आज हम इसी प्रश्न के विषय देखेंगे।

प्रश्न: क्या कभी गँवाए न जा सकने वाले अनन्त उद्धार के सिद्धांत में, बिना किसी भय के पाप करते रहने की स्वतंत्रता निहित नहीं है? 

उत्तर: यदि परमेश्वर ने हमें अनन्त उद्धार का प्रावधान उपलब्ध करवाया है, तो अवश्य ही कुछ सोच-समझ कर, कुछ जानते-बूझते हुए ही करवाया होगा। उपरोक्त संभावना यदि हम सीमित बुद्धि और ज्ञान वाले मनुष्यों के मन में आ सकती है तो उस असीम ज्ञान और समझ रखने वाले परमेश्वर से भी छिपी हुई नहीं होगी, कि यदि पाप की प्रवृत्ति रखने वाले मनुष्य को अनन्त, कभी न गँवाया जा सकने वाला उद्धार प्रदान कर दिया, तो वह फिर निडर होकर मनमानी और पाप करने के लिए इसका दुरुपयोग अवश्य ही करेगा। इसीलिए परमेश्वर के विषय लिखा है, “क्योंकि परमेश्वर की मूर्खता मनुष्यों के ज्ञान से ज्ञानवान है; और परमेश्वर की निर्बलता मनुष्यों के बल से बहुत बलवान है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:25)। वास्तविकता यही है कि इस संभावना को उठाने और मानने वाले लोग, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति अपने अधूरे ज्ञान और अपूर्ण समझ के कारण शैतान द्वारा बहकाए और पथभ्रष्ट किए जा रहे हैं; जैसा कि यशायाह ने लिखा, “इसलिये अज्ञानता के कारण मेरी प्रजा बंधुआई में जाती है, उसके प्रतिष्ठित पुरुष भूखों मरते और साधारण लोग प्यास से व्याकुल होते हैं” (यशायाह 5:13)। 

यदि लोग पाप और उसके कारण उत्पन्न परिस्थितियों, तथा परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गई अन्य संबंधित शिक्षाओं एवं उदाहरणों का ध्यान करें, तो उन्हें स्वतः ही स्पष्ट हो जाएगा कि अनन्त उद्धार के सिद्धांत में पाप करते रहने की स्वतंत्रता निहित नहीं है; वरन एक चेतावनी है कि मनुष्य अपने उद्धार की कीमत और महत्व को समझे अन्यथा परिणाम बहुत दुखदायी होंगे, इस लोक में भी और परलोक में भी। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, वास्तव में अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने वाले, और प्रभु यीशु को सच्चे मन से जीवन समर्पित करने वाले व्यक्ति के अंदर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आकर निवास करने लगते हैं, जो उसे पाप के विषय कायल करते हैं। यदि उस व्यक्ति से जाने या अनजाने में किसी भी कारणवश कभी कोई पाप हो भी जाए, तो उसमें निवास करने वाले परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा उसे उस पाप में बने नहीं रहने देते हैं, वरन उसे उभारते और उकसाते हैं, उसके पाप को किसी न किसी रीति से उसके सामने लाते हैं, ताकि वह व्यक्ति अपने पाप के लिए पश्चाताप कर ले; अपने उस पाप को परमेश्वर के सम्मुख स्वीकार कर के उसके लिए क्षमा माँग ले, ताकि परमेश्वर उसे वापस क्षमा की स्थिति में बहाल कर दे “क्या ही धन्य है वह जिसका अपराध क्षमा किया गया, और जिसका पाप ढाँपा गया हो। क्या ही धन्य है वह मनुष्य जिसके अधर्म का यहोवा लेखा न ले, और जिसकी आत्मा में कपट न हो। जब मैं चुप रहा तब दिन भर कराहते कराहते मेरी हड्डियां पिघल गई। क्योंकि रात दिन मैं तेरे हाथ के नीचे दबा रहा; और मेरी तरावट धूप काल की सी झुर्राहट बनती गई। जब मैं ने अपना पाप तुझ पर प्रगट किया और अपना अधर्म न छिपाया, और कहा, मैं यहोवा के सामने अपने अपराधों को मान लूंगा; तब तू ने मेरे अधर्म और पाप को क्षमा कर दिया” (भजन संहिता 32:1-5); साथ ही 1 यूहन्ना 1:9 भी देखिए। इसलिए सच्चे मन से, और पूर्ण समर्पण से मसीह यीशु पर विश्वास लाने वाला व्यक्ति, जिसने प्रभु यीशु द्वारा उसके लिए चुकाई गई उसके पापों की कीमत को, प्रभु यीशु के बलिदान और पुनरुत्थान के मूल्य तथा महत्व को समझा है, वह कभी इस प्रवृत्ति के साथ कोई भी कार्य नहीं करेगा कि अब अनन्त उद्धार तो मिल ही गया है, इसलिए जैसा जी में आए कर लो, कोई हानि नहीं होगी। यह विचार और व्यवहार वही रखेगा जो अभी भी अपने पापों में ही है, जिसने वास्तव में उद्धार नहीं पाया है, और जो प्रभु द्वारा उसके उद्धार के लिए चुकाए गए दाम के मूल्य का एहसास नहीं करता है, जो प्रभु परमेश्वर के प्रति उसके इस महान अनुग्रह के लिए कृतज्ञ एवं दीन और नम्र नहीं है; वरन इसे अपने स्वार्थ और साँसारिकता की अभिलाषाओं के लिए प्रयोग करना चाहता है। 

    उद्धार पाए हुए व्यक्ति की उसे पाप करने से रोकने वाली इस कृतज्ञता और समर्पण, तथा पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा उसे गलती से भी हुए पाप के लिए कायल करने के अतिरिक्त भी कुछ और संबंधित बातें हैं, जिनको समझने के लिए हमें वापस अदन की वाटिका में, प्रथम पाप के साथ घटी हुई घटनाओं का पुनःअवलोकन करके देखना होगा। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, पाप करने के बाद प्रथम मनुष्यों के साथ दो बातें हुईं - (i) वे तुरंत ही आत्मिक और शारीरिक मृत्यु के अंतर्गत आ गए - परमेश्वर से उनकी संगति टूट गई, और उनका शरीर क्षय होना आरंभ हो गया, जो अन्ततः शारीरिक मृत्यु में पहुँच गया; (ii) परमेश्वर ने उन्हें दंड दिया - स्त्री को आदम की अधीनता में कर दिया, उसकी प्रसव की पीड़ा बढ़ा दी, और आदम को दुख के साथ परिश्रम की रोटी खाने के अधीन कर दिया, उसके परिश्रम के बावजूद धरती उनके लिए कांटे और ऊंटकटारे उगाएगी; (iii) और उन दोनों को उस आशीष की विशिष्ट वाटिका के बाहर निकाल दिया गया। अर्थात पाप के कारण मनुष्य की परमेश्वर से संगति तो टूट ही चुकी है, किन्तु साथ ही मनुष्य जब भी पाप करता है उस पाप का दंड भी उसके जीवन में जुड़ जाता है, जिसे उसे इस पृथ्वी पर भुगतना ही होता है। साथ ही परलोक में उस पाप का प्रतिफल भी उसके नाम पर अर्जित हो जाता है, जिसे उसे परलोक में जाकर भुगतना होगा।

पृथ्वी पर, तथा परलोक में पाप के दण्ड को भुगतने से सम्बन्धित चर्चा कुछ लंबी है, इसलिए हम इसे भागों में विभाजित करके, आने वाले लेखों में देखेंगे।

Some Related Questions and their Answers (3a)

    In the previous two articles we have been seeing questions that are commonly raised regarding the salvation freely provided by the Lord Jesus. In the last article we had seen that salvation is eternal, it cannot be lost or taken away. The notion of losing salvation is not just inconsistent with the Word of God and with the attributes and character of God, it actually is contrary to them. But some people resolutely believe that if a saved, i.e., a Born-Again person does not live a life or righteousness, commits sins, then he can lose his salvation. They also give this argument that if salvation cannot be lost, then getting saved or Born-Again is tantamount to getting a license to sin and lead a wayward life, because no matter the kind of kind of life a person then lives, no matter what he does, his entry to heaven is assured, so why should he worry about how he lives after receiving salvation. But this too is a result of a wrong understanding of God's Word, is another satanic attempt at adulterating the concept of righteousness by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ with the unBiblical concept of righteousness works. Today we will start looking into this question.

Question: In the doctrine of eternal salvation, one that cannot ever be lost, isn’t the freedom to continue to sin with impunity implied?

Answer: If God has made available eternal salvation to us, surely it would only be after considering the various implications, the pros and cons associated with this provision, the manner it can be used and misused, etc. If we fallible humans with a very limited knowledge and wisdom can see the possibility of misuse of this provision, then why wouldn’t the omniscient God with a limitless knowledge and wisdom, one who knows the end from the beginning, not have foreseen this possibility, when making available eternal salvation to sinful man, having a sin nature and tendency to fall into sin? How could God, for whom it is written in His Word, “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1:25) not have known about the possibility that this would make man prone to sin with impunity and misuse this provision without any fear? The fact of the matter is that those who raise this question and possibility, because of their incomplete knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, are being deceived and led onto a wrong path, as Isaiah has said, “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with thirst” (Isaiah 5:13).

If people would take time to consider about the entry of sin, the situations that came about because of this, and put together the other related teachings given elsewhere in God’s Word about sin, then it will automatically become clear and evident to them that the notion of freedom to sin is not implied in the doctrine of eternal salvation. Rather, there is a serious warning that those who take this salvation lightly, do not respect the price paid for providing it to mankind, they will have to pay a very heavy price, in this world as well as the next, for their ignorance and misuse of God’s Word and God’s provision. As we have seen earlier, those who have sincerely repented of their sins and have truly submitted their lives to the Lord Jesus, their bodies have also become the temples of the Holy Spirit, who comes to reside in them, and convicts them of sin. A saved or Born-Again person, if he happens to sin due to any reason, knowingly or unknowingly, then the Holy Spirit residing in that person does not allow him to remain in the condition of sin; He prods, encourages, and provokes him to recognize his sin, somehow, in some way, brings that sin before him so that he may confess it, and ask for God’s forgiveness for it, and be restored back to the state of forgiveness from God, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:1-5); also see 1 John 1:9. Moreover, any person who has with a sincere heart repented of his sins and believed in the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has truly understood and realized the price the Lord Jesus has paid for redeeming him of his sins, has understood the value and importance of the sacrifice, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, can never live or function with this tendency, that now that I have got salvation, I can live life any way I want to live, without fear of any loss. This thought and tendency will only be seen in a person who is still in his sins, has not actually been saved. Those not-saved have no understanding of the price the Lord has paid for their sins, they have no awe and reverence for the Lord and His work, and they have not been humbled by the indescribable grace shown by God in forgiving their sins, have no sense of gratitude for the deliverance made available by the Lord; therefore, they only wants to use this provision for their selfish motives and to fulfill their desires for worldly things.

    Besides this sense of gratitude, the commitment of obedience and submission to the Lord, and the presence of the Holy Spirit within the saved person, which prevent him from sinning, or remaining in sin, there are some other things as well, that need to be understood, and for them we will need to go back to the time of the first sin, and review the events in the Garden of Eden at the time of the first sin. As we have seen earlier, immediately after sinning, two things happened to the first two humans - (i) They immediately came under spiritual and physical death, i.e., they lost fellowship with God, and their bodies started to decay towards death, and eventually they died; (ii) God punished them - the women was brought under subjection of Adam, her birth pains were greatly multiplied, and Adam was condemned to eating bread out of the sweat of his brow, and despite his labor and efforts, the earth was to bring forth thorns and thistles for him; (iii) they were made to go and stay out of the place of blessings and fellowship with God, the Garden of Eden. So, we see that because of sin, not only does man come under death, i.e., his fellowship with God is broken and his body dies, but punishment for his sin is also added into his life, which he has to suffer in this world itself while he is alive. Sin also affects his heavenly rewards, and he has to pay for the sin in the afterlife as well.

The discussion related to suffering the consequences of sin is a bit long, so we will consider it in parts, in the coming articles. 

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

प्रभु ने उसकी मृत्यु को बारम्बार स्मरण करते रहने के लिए भी इसी अभिप्राय से कहा है। ताकि प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते समय प्रभु के लोग यह समझ और स्मरण बनाए रख सकें कि वे अपने किसी भी प्रकार के कामों या अपने द्वारा गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता के द्वारा धर्मी नहीं बने हैं। वे केवल प्रभु यीशु द्वारा उनके पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, उनके स्थान पर मृत्यु दण्ड सहने के द्वारा, प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने और उसे पूर्ण समर्पण करने से धर्मी और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बने हैं। इसीलिए पवित्र आत्मा ने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:24-25 में केवल प्रभु की देह और लहू नहीं लिखवाया है। वरन तोड़ी गई रोटी को उसकी तोड़ी गई देह और कुचले गए दाख के रस को उसका बहाया गया लहू जताया है; अर्थात प्रभु के यातनाएं सहने और मारे जाने को याद करने के लिए कहा है। प्रभु भोज का, प्रभु की मेज़ का यह उद्देश्य हमें यह याद दिलाते रहना भी है कि हमारे पापों से बचाए जाने के लिए, क्या कीमत चुकाई गई। इतनी भारी कीमत चुकाने से मिले छुटकारे को हल्के में नहीं लिया जा सकता है; उसकी यादगार को एक रस्म, एक औपचारिकता नहीं बनाया जा सकता है; इस यादगार के साथ मनमानी नहीं की जा सकती है; नहीं तो जवाबदेही बहुत भारी पड़ेगी। इसीलिए इब्रानियों 2:3 में लिखा है “तो हम लोग ऐसे बड़े उद्धार से निश्चिन्त रह कर क्योंकर बच सकते हैं? जिस की चर्चा पहिले पहल प्रभु के द्वारा हुई, और सुनने वालों के द्वारा हमें निश्‍चय हुआ।”

To live a practical Christian life, it is essential for every Christian Believer to follow the instructions given in God's Word. In Acts 2 and 15, some instructions are given regarding practical Christian living, and by following them the then Christian Believers and churches had been edified, matured in their spiritual life, and grew in numbers. There are seven things given in Acts 2, four of which, also called the “Pillars of the Christian Living,” are given in Acts 2:42. We are seeing and learning under seven points about the sixth of these seven things, the third of the four pillars – the “breaking of bread,” i.e., partaking of the Lord's Supper or the Lord's Table. God's Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 has provided the main teachings regarding proper participation in the Lord's Supper. We are currently learning about the fourth point from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 about the behavior of the Christian Believers for properly partaking of the Lord's table. So far, we have seen that Christians must be humble and willing to be corrected by their church leaders. At the same time, the church leaders should function as shepherds, giving correct teachings of God’s Word to their congregation with patience and forbearance; and correcting them like a spiritual father. We have also seen that the Lord's Supper should be partaken in its original form, as had been given by the Lord – one bread and one cup for all. In the previous article we saw that those partaking of the Lord's table should always remain thankful to God for everything, and always trust in Him in all circumstances. Today we will look at that which is written at the end of verses 24 and 25 – about participating in the remembrance of the Lord.

 

4. The Lord's instructions for the Lord's Table - Purpose - verses 23-26 - (Part 3)

 

Many people believe that partaking of the Lord's Supper takes away their sins because the representations of the Lord's holy, sinless, and unblemished body have entered into them. But this is nothing more than an imaginary idea on their part. There is no support for this in the Bible; the Lord Jesus did not say anything like this when establishing the table; and nothing like this is said in the teachings and instructions regarding the table that the Holy Spirit gave through Paul. Look in God's Word, the Bible, at the end of 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 this is what the Lord says "...do this in remembrance of me." The Lord never said, nor is there any indication in Scripture, that partaking of the Lord's Supper will make a person pure, holy, acceptable to God, and eligible to enter heaven. There is another misconception that is behind people's belief that partaking of the Lord's Table will absolve them of their sins. One of the important things that emerges from a study of the book of Acts and Paul's letters is that there was a very strong but completely wrong belief among the people of that time, especially among those who came to Christianity from among the Jews. The belief was that in addition to being a Christian Believer, it was also essential for them to follow the Law. And the Jewish converts to Christianity used to pressurize the Gentile converts to follow the Law as well. In Acts chapter 15 we see that the Apostles in Jerusalem had given clear instructions that there was no need to do this; but this notion still continued to cause problems. The Holy Spirit made clear through Paul in Romans 3:19-21 that the Law has its own place and importance, and it should be considered in accordance with that.

The law is a God given measure, the standard for assessing man's sinful condition; it does not provide any remission of sins. The law is given to man to show him his true spiritual condition. Man comes to recognize his true spiritual condition when he comes before the Law, as we see from Nehemiah chapters 8 and 9, and the example of King Josiah (2 Kings chapter 22, and 2 Chronicles chapter 34, especially see 2 Chronicles 34:19). The Law, and the Prophets, together testify to the righteousness of God, which is revealed in the Lord Jesus. Also, as the author of the letter to the Hebrews says in Hebrews 10:1-3, by keeping the things of the Law, the people were reminded of their sins. So, it was necessary for God's people of that time, the Jews, to know and keep the Law, so that they would remain aware of their actual spiritual condition. Keeping the Law in mind was meant to remind them of their spiritual condition, and of the righteousness they receive from God.

The Lord has also said to keep remembering his death again and again, with the same intention. So that when partaking of the Lord's Supper the Lord's people may understand and remember that they have not been made righteous by any of their own works or by any of their contrived righteousness. They have become righteous and acceptable to God only through coming to faith in the Lord Jesus taking their sins upon Himself, bearing the death penalty for them, and fully submitting themselves to Him. That is why the Holy Spirit, in 1 Corinthians 11:24-25, has not just written the body and blood of the Lord. Rather, has written about the broken bread as representing the Lord’s broken body, and the wine from the crushed grapes representing His shed blood; i.e., it is to remember the Lord's suffering and death. The purpose of the Lord's Supper, of the Lord's Table, is also to remind us of the price that was paid to save us from our sins. The redemption that came through paying such a heavy price cannot be taken lightly; its remembrance cannot be made a ritual, a formality; This memorial cannot be tampered with; otherwise, the accountability will be very heavy. That is why it is written in Hebrews 2:3 "how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him."

In the next article we will look at another purpose of the Lord's table, the preaching of His death.

You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    हम पिछले दो लेखों से प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा सेंत-मेंत उपलब्ध करवाए गए पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार से संबंधित कुछ सामान्यतः उठाए जाने वाले प्रश्नों को देख रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि उद्धार अनन्तकालीन है, कभी खोया अथवा गंवाया नहीं जा सकता है। उद्धार गँवाने की बात परमेश्वर के वचन और उसके चरित्र तथा गुणों से कदापि मेल नहीं खाती है, वरन उनके विरुद्ध है। किन्तु कुछ लोग यह विचार रखते हैं कि यदि मनुष्य धार्मिकता का जीवन न जीए, और पाप करे, तो फिर उसका उद्धार जा सकता है। साथ ही वे यह भी तर्क भी देते हैं कि यदि उद्धार कभी नहीं जा सकता है, तब तो परमेश्वर ने मनुष्यों को पाप करने का लाइसेंस दे दिया है - एक बार उद्धार पा लो, और फिर उसके बाद जैसा चाहो वैसा करो, क्योंकि उद्धार तो जाएगा नहीं, स्वर्ग तो हर हाल में मिलेगा ही। किन्तु यह भी मनुष्यों को भरमाने के लिए, और प्रभु यीशु के सिद्ध और पूर्ण कार्य में मनुष्यों की अपने ही प्रयासों की धार्मिकता और कर्मों को मिलाने की शैतान द्वारा फैलाई जाने वाली एक गलत शिक्षा, एक गलत धारणा है, और आज हम इसी प्रश्न के विषय देखेंगे।

प्रश्न: क्या कभी गँवाए न जा सकने वाले अनन्त उद्धार के सिद्धांत में, बिना किसी भय के पाप करते रहने की स्वतंत्रता निहित नहीं है? 

    उत्तर: यदि परमेश्वर ने हमें अनन्त उद्धार का प्रावधान उपलब्ध करवाया है, तो अवश्य ही कुछ सोच-समझ कर, कुछ जानते-बूझते हुए ही करवाया होगा। उपरोक्त संभावना यदि हम सीमित बुद्धि और ज्ञान वाले मनुष्यों के मन में आ सकती है तो उस असीम ज्ञान और समझ रखने वाले परमेश्वर से भी छिपी हुई नहीं होगी, कि यदि पाप की प्रवृत्ति रखने वाले मनुष्य को अनन्त, कभी न गँवाया जा सकने वाला उद्धार प्रदान कर दिया, तो वह फिर निडर होकर मनमानी और पाप करने के लिए इसका दुरुपयोग अवश्य ही करेगा। इसीलिए परमेश्वर के विषय लिखा है, “क्योंकि परमेश्वर की मूर्खता मनुष्यों के ज्ञान से ज्ञानवान है; और परमेश्वर की निर्बलता मनुष्यों के बल से बहुत बलवान है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:25)। वास्तविकता यही है कि इस संभावना को उठाने और मानने वाले लोग, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति अपने अधूरे ज्ञान और अपूर्ण समझ के कारण शैतान द्वारा बहकाए और पथभ्रष्ट किए जा रहे हैं; जैसा कि यशायाह ने लिखा, “इसलिये अज्ञानता के कारण मेरी प्रजा बंधुआई में जाती है, उसके प्रतिष्ठित पुरूष भूखों मरते और साधारण लोग प्यास से व्याकुल होते हैं” (यशायाह 5:13)। 

    यदि लोग पाप और उसके कारण उत्पन्न परिस्थितियों, तथा परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गई अन्य संबंधित शिक्षाओं एवं उदाहरणों का ध्यान करें, तो उन्हें स्वतः ही स्पष्ट हो जाएगा कि अनन्त उद्धार के सिद्धांत में पाप करते रहने की स्वतंत्रता निहित नहीं है; वरन एक चेतावनी है कि मनुष्य अपने उद्धार की कीमत और महत्व को समझे अन्यथा परिणाम बहुत दुखदायी होंगे, इस लोक में भी और परलोक में भी। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, वास्तव में अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने वाले, और प्रभु यीशु को सच्चे मन से जीवन समर्पित करने वाले व्यक्ति के अंदर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आकर निवास करने लगते हैं, जो उसे पाप के विषय कायल करते हैं। यदि उस व्यक्ति से जाने या अनजाने में किसी भी कारणवश कभी कोई पाप हो भी जाए, तो उसमें निवास करने वाले परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा उसे उस पाप में बने नहीं रहने देते हैं, वरन उसे उभारते और उकसाते हैं कि वह व्यक्ति अपने पाप के लिए पश्चाताप कर ले; उसको परमेश्वर के सम्मुख स्वीकार कर के उसके लिए क्षमा माँग ले, ताकि परमेश्वर उसे वापस क्षमा की स्थिति में बहाल कर दे “क्या ही धन्य है वह जिसका अपराध क्षमा किया गया, और जिसका पाप ढाँपा गया हो। क्या ही धन्य है वह मनुष्य जिसके अधर्म का यहोवा लेखा न ले, और जिसकी आत्मा में कपट न हो। जब मैं चुप रहा तब दिन भर कराहते कराहते मेरी हड्डियां पिघल गई। क्योंकि रात दिन मैं तेरे हाथ के नीचे दबा रहा; और मेरी तरावट धूप काल की सी झुर्राहट बनती गई। जब मैं ने अपना पाप तुझ पर प्रगट किया और अपना अधर्म न छिपाया, और कहा, मैं यहोवा के सामने अपने अपराधों को मान लूंगा; तब तू ने मेरे अधर्म और पाप को क्षमा कर दिया” (भजन संहिता 32:1-5); साथ ही 1 यूहन्ना 1:9 भी देखिए। इसलिए सच्चे मन से, और पूर्ण समर्पण से मसीह यीशु पर विश्वास लाने वाला व्यक्ति, जिसने प्रभु यीशु द्वारा उसके लिए चुकाई गई उसके पापों की कीमत को, प्रभु यीशु के बलिदान और पुनरुत्थान के मूल्य तथा महत्व को समझा है, वह कभी इस प्रवृत्ति के साथ कोई भी कार्य नहीं करेगा कि अब अनन्त उद्धार तो मिल ही गया है, इसलिए जैसा जी में आए कर लो, कोई हानि नहीं होगी। यह विचार और व्यवहार वही रखेगा जो अभी भी अपने पापों में ही है, जिसने वास्तव में उद्धार नहीं पाया है, और जो प्रभु द्वारा उसके उद्धार के लिए चुकाए गए दाम के मूल्य का एहसास नहीं करता है, जो प्रभु परमेश्वर के प्रति उसके इस महान अनुग्रह के लिए कृतज्ञ एवं दीन और नम्र नहीं है। 

    उद्धार पाए हुए व्यक्ति की उसे पाप करने से रोकने वाली इस कृतज्ञता और समर्पण, तथा पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा उसे गलती से भी हुए पाप के लिए कायल करने के अतिरिक्त भी कुछ और संबंधित बातें हैं, जिनको समझने के लिए हमें वापस अदन की वाटिका में, प्रथम पाप के साथ घटी की घटनाओं का पुनःअवलोकन करके देखना होगा। जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, पाप करने के बाद प्रथम मनुष्यों के साथ दो बातें हुईं - (i) वे तुरंत ही आत्मिक और शारीरिक मृत्यु के अंतर्गत आ गए - परमेश्वर से उनकी संगति टूट गई, और उनका शरीर क्षय होना आरंभ हो गया, जो अन्ततः शारीरिक मृत्यु में पहुँच गया; (ii) परमेश्वर ने उन्हें दंड दिया - स्त्री को आदम की अधीनता में कर दिया, उसकी प्रसव की पीड़ा बढ़ा दी, और आदम को दुख के साथ परिश्रम की रोटी खाने के अधीन कर दिया, उसके परिश्रम के बावजूद धरती उनके लिए कांटे और ऊंटकटारे उगाएगी; (iii) और उन दोनों को उस आशीष की विशिष्ट वाटिका के बाहर निकाल दिया गया। अर्थात पाप के कारण मनुष्य की परमेश्वर से संगति तो टूट ही चुकी है, किन्तु साथ ही मनुष्य जब भी पाप करता है उस पाप का दंड भी उसके जीवन में जुड़ जाता है, जिसे उसे इस पृथ्वी पर भुगतना ही होता है। साथ ही परलोक में उस पाप का प्रतिफल भी उसके नाम पर अर्जित हो जाता है, जिसे उसे परलोक में जाकर भुगतना होगा। 

    इस पृथ्वी पर पाप का दण्ड भुगतने से संबंधित चर्चा कुछ लंबी है, इसलिए उसे हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे; आज हम परलोक के जीवन से संबंधित पाप के प्रभाव को देख लेते हैं। 

    पाप का प्रभाव प्रत्येक मनुष्य के परलोक के जीवन पर भी पड़ता है। पापों की क्षमा पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, इस पृथ्वी पर प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में उसकी उपयोगिता के लिए बिताए गए जीवन के अनुसार, स्वर्ग में आदर और प्रतिफल भी मिलेंगे “भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:8)। किन्तु इसके साथ ही पृथ्वी पर उसके द्वारा की गई परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता तथा पाप उसके इन प्रतिफलों को बिगाड़ता भी रहता है। स्वर्ग में मनुष्य को मिलने वाले प्रतिफल इन दोनों - भले और बुरे के कुल योग के अनुसार दिए जाएंगे। किन्तु ये आदर और प्रतिफल मिलने से पहले प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन के प्रत्येक कार्य की बहुत बारीकी से जाँच भी की जाएगी, “क्योंकि अवश्य है, कि हम सब का हाल मसीह के न्याय आसन के साम्हने खुल जाए, कि हर एक व्यक्ति अपने अपने भले बुरे कामों का बदला जो उसने देह के द्वारा किए हों पाए।” (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10); “क्योंकि वह समय आ पहुंचा है, कि पहिले परमेश्वर के लोगों का न्याय किया जाए, और जब कि न्याय का आरम्भ हम ही से होगा तो उन का क्या अन्‍त होगा जो परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार को नहीं मानते? और यदि धर्मी व्यक्ति ही कठिनता से उद्धार पाएगा, तो भक्तिहीन और पापी का क्या ठिकाना?” (1 पतरस 4:17-18)। बाइबल से इस विषय से संबंधित कुछ और पदों को देखते हैं: 

• हर पाप, हर अनाज्ञाकारिता, मसीही विश्वासी के प्रतिफलों को खराब करता है; और जिसका जीवन ऐसा रहा होगा कि उसकी लापरवाही और पापों ने उसके प्रतिफलों को या तो अर्जित ही नहीं होने दिया, अथवा बिगाड़ कर समाप्त कर दिया, वह फिर अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्ग में खाली हाथ ही प्रवेश करेगा और रहेगा, “तो हर एक का काम प्रगट हो जाएगा; क्योंकि वह दिन उसे बताएगा; इसलिये कि आग के साथ प्रगट होगा: और वह आग हर एक का काम परखेगी कि कैसा है। जिस का काम उस पर बना हुआ स्थिर रहेगा, वह मजदूरी पाएगा। और यदि किसी का काम जल जाएगा, तो हानि उठाएगा; पर वह आप बच जाएगा परन्तु जलते जलते” (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:13-15)। 

• न केवल कार्यों का, वरन हर एक मनुष्य को अपनी हर व्यर्थ बात, हर शब्द का भी हिसाब देना होगा, “और मैं तुम से कहता हूं, कि जो जो निकम्मी बातें मनुष्य कहेंगे, न्याय के दिन हर एक बात का लेखा देंगे। क्योंकि तू अपनी बातों के कारण निर्दोष और अपनी बातों ही के कारण दोषी ठहराया जाएगा” (मत्ती 12:36-37)। 

• परमेश्वर मसीही विश्वासियों की बातचीत को ध्यान से सुनता है और उसके सम्मुख उन बातों का लेखा रखा जाता है, “तब यहोवा का भय मानने वालों ने आपस में बातें की, और यहोवा ध्यान धर कर उनकी सुनता था; और जो यहोवा का भय मानते और उसके नाम का सम्मान करते थे, उनके स्मरण के निमित्त उसके साम्हने एक पुस्तक लिखी जाती थी” (मलाकी 3:16)। 

    इसलिए कोई भी यह न समझे कि उद्धार पाने के बाद पाप करने से उसे अब कोई हानि नहीं होगी। परमेश्वर मूर्ख नहीं है, कि मनुष्य उद्दंड होकर उसकी उदारता, कृपा, और प्रेम का दुरुपयोग कर ले और परमेश्वर बस एक मूक दर्शक ही बनकर मनुष्य द्वारा उसका अनुचित लाभ उठाते हुए देखता रह जाए। इसलिए शैतान के द्वारा फैलाई जा रही इन व्यर्थ और मिथ्या बातों पर ध्यान मत दीजिए। प्रभु के आपके प्रति प्रमाणित किए गए प्रेम, कृपा, और अनुग्रह, तथा उसके द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए जा रहे पाप-क्षमा प्राप्त करने के अवसर के मूल्य को समझिए, और अभी इस अवसर का लाभ उठा लीजिए। आपके द्वारा स्वेच्छा से, सच्चे और पूर्णतः समर्पित मन से, अपने पापों के प्रति सच्चे पश्चाताप के साथ आपके द्वारा की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने जाने-अनजाने में, मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता की है, पाप किए हैं। मैं मान लेता हूँ कि आपने क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा मेरे पापों के दण्ड को अपने ऊपर लेकर पूर्णतः सह लिया, उन पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत सदा काल के लिए चुका दी है। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मेरे मन को अपनी ओर परिवर्तित करें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, अपने साथ कर लें” आपका सच्चे मन से लिया गया मन परिवर्तन का यह निर्णय आपके इस जीवन तथा परलोक के जीवन को आशीषित तथा स्वर्गीय जीवन बना देगा। अभी अवसर है, अभी प्रभु का निमंत्रण आपके लिए है - उसे स्वीकार कर लीजिए।

Some Related Questions and their Answers (Contd.)

In the previous two articles we have being seeing questions that are commonly raised regarding the salvation freely provided by the Lord Jesus. In the last article we had seen that salvation is eternal, it cannot be lost or taken away. The notion of losing salvation is not just inconsistent with the Word of God and with the attributes and character of God, it actually is contrary to them. But some people resolutely believe that if a saved, i.e., a Born-Again person does not live a life or righteousness, commits sins, then he can lose his salvation. They also give this argument that if salvation cannot be lost, then getting saved or Born-Again is tantamount to getting a license to sin and lead a wayward life, because no matter the kind of kind of life a person then lives, no matter what he does, his entry to heaven is assured, so why should he worry about how he lives after receiving salvation. But this too is a result of a wrong understanding, another satanic attempt at mixing the concept of righteousness by works into the righteousness by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Today we will start looking into this question.

Question: In the doctrine of eternal salvation, one that cannot ever be lost, isn’t the freedom to continue to sin with impunity implied?

Answer: If God has made available eternal salvation to us, surely it would only be after considering the various implications, the pros and cons associated with this provision, the manner it can be used and misused, etc. If we fallible humans with a very limited knowledge and wisdom can see the possibility of misuse of this provision, then why wouldn’t the omniscient God with a limitless knowledge and wisdom, one who knows the end from the beginning, not have foreseen this possibility, when making available eternal salvation to sinful man, having a sin nature and tendency to fall into sin? How could God, for whom it is written in His Word, “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1:25) not have known about the possibility that this would make man prone to sin with impunity and misuse this provision without any fear? The fact of the matter is that those who raise this question and possibility, because of their incomplete knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, are being deceived and led onto a wrong path, as Isaiah has said, “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with thirst” (Isaiah 5:13).

If people would take time to consider about the entry of sin, the situations that came about because of this, and put together the other related teachings given elsewhere in God’s Word about sin, then it will automatically become clear and evident to them that the notion of freedom to sin is not implied in the doctrine of eternal salvation. Rather, there is a serious warning that those who take this salvation lightly, do not respect the price paid for providing it to mankind, they will have to pay a very heavy price, in this world as well as the next, for their ignorance and misuse of God’s Word and God’s provision. As we have seen earlier, those who have sincerely repented of their sins and have truly submitted their lives to the Lord Jesus, their bodies have also become the temples of the Holy Spirit, who comes to reside in them, and convicts them of sin. A saved or Born-Again person, if he happens to sin due to any reason, knowingly or unknowingly, then the Holy Spirit residing in that person does not allow him to remain in the condition of sin; He prods, encourages, and provokes him to recognize his sin, confess it, and ask for God’s forgiveness for it, so that the person is restored back to the state of forgiveness from God, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah  I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:1-5); also see 1 John 1:9. Moreover, any person who has with a sincere heart repented of his sins and believed in the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has truly understood and realized the price the Lord Jesus has paid for redeeming him of his sins, has understood the value and importance of the sacrifice, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, can never live or function with this tendency, that now that I have got salvation, I can live life any way I want to live, without fear of any loss. This thought and tendency will only be seen in a person who is still in his sins, has not actually been saved. The not-saved has no understanding of the price the Lord has paid for his sins, has no respect for the Lord and His work, and has not been humbled by the indescribable grace shown by God in forgiving sins, has no sense of gratitude for the deliverance made available by the Lord.

Besides this sense of gratitude, the commitment of obedience and submission to the Lord, and the presence of the Holy Spirit within the saved person, which prevent him from sinning, or remaining in sin, there are some other things as well, that need to be understood, and for them we will need to go back to the time of the first sin, and review the events in the Garden of Eden at the time of the first sin. As we have seen earlier, immediately after sinning, two things happened to the first two humans - (i) They immediately came under spiritual and physical death, i.e., they lost fellowship with God, and their bodies started to decay towards death, and eventually they died; (ii) God punished them - the women was brought under subjection of Adam, her birth pains were greatly multiplied, and Adam was condemned to eating bread out of the sweat of his brow, and despite his labor and efforts, the earth was to bring forth thorns and thistles for him; (iii) they were made to go and stay out of the place of blessings and fellowship with God, the Garden of Eden. So, we see, that because of sin, not only does man come under death, i.e., his fellowship with God is broken and his body dies, but punishment for his sin is also added into his life, which he has to suffer in this world itself while he is alive. Sin also affects his heavenly rewards, and he has to pay for the sin in the afterlife as well.

The discussion about suffering for sin in this life is a long one, and we will look into it in the next article, today we will look at the effects of sin on the afterlife, when a person dies and leaves the earth.

The effect of sin also comes upon man’s afterlife, i.e., his spirit’s life, after his physical body’s death on earth. For the Christian Believer who has received forgiveness of sins, according to the life of obedience he has lived towards the Lord while on earth, how useful he has been on earth for the Lord, he will get honor and rewards in heaven “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy4:8). But along with this, his disobedience towards the Lord and the sins committed here on earth, also keep adversely affecting those heavenly rewards. Eventually in heaven, he will get the rewards according to the net result of his good and bad deeds, his life of obedience and utility for the Lord and his life of disobedience and creating problems for the Lord. These rewards will be given after a very minute and thorough scrutiny of each Believer’s life, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10); “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"” (1 Peter 4:17-18). Let us look at some more verses about this from the Bible:

• Every sin, every disobedience spoils the rewards of the Christian Believer; and the person whose life has been of carelessness and waywardness, then his sins could either not have allowed any heavenly rewards to get accumulated, or may have even eat away all his heavenly rewards, and then though he will enter into heaven, but will remain empty handed for eternity, “each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire” (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

• Every person will not only have to give an account of everything he has done, but also give an account of every vain talk and words spoken by him, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."” (Matthew 12:36-37).

• God very carefully listens to the conversations of the Christian Believers, and they are recorded before Him “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name” (Malachi 3:16).

Therefore, let no none think that sinning after being saved has no consequences, there will be no harm. God is not a fool and cannot be mocked; no man can take for granted and misuse His grace, benevolence, kindness, and love, and get away with it lightly; God will not remain a helpless, silent spectator to man making a mockery of His grace. Therefore, do not be beguiled and carried away by these false notions and unBiblical teachings being spread by Satan. Understand the value and importance of the love and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus to redeem you of your sins. The Lord Jesus has done His part; He has made ready and available salvation with all the benefits freely to everyone; but have you accepted His offer? Have you taken His hand of love and grace extended towards you and the free gift He offers; or are you still determined to do that which no man can ever accomplish through his own efforts?

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
