       हमने पिछले लेख में निर्गमन 12:43-49 से देखा था कि क्यों फसह में और प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने की सही और स्वीकार्य विधि केवल वही है जो परमेश्वर ने निर्धारित की और दी है, कोई अन्य नहीं। प्रत्येक वह व्यक्ति जो मनुष्य द्वारा बनाई गई किसी विधि से उसमें भाग लेता है, वह परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करता है; और परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता पाप है, जिसके घातक परिणाम होते हैं।  इसलिए, उनके लिए जो इनमें अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते हैं, परमेश्वर के अनुसार नहीं बल्कि मनुष्यों के अनुसार, वह जिसे उनके लिए आशीष का कारण होना था, एक श्राप और हानि का कारण हो जाता है। साथ ही हमने परमेश्वर द्वारा किए गए एक अद्भुत प्रावधान का भी उल्लेख किया था, जिसे हम आज देखेंगे।

        पिछले लेख में, हमने इसी खण्ड से देखा था कि कोई भी परदेशी, यात्री, दास - मोल लिया अथवा मजदूर, कोई भी जो “इस्राएल की मण्डली” का नहीं है, उसे फसह में भाग लेने की अनुमति नहीं थी, जब तक कि वह पहले परमेश्वर की उस वाचा की अधीनता में नहीं आ जाता जो परमेश्वर ने अब्राहम के साथ बाँधी थी, और उसके अन्तर्गत खतना नहीं करवा लेता। लेकिन साथ ही इस बात पर भी ध्यान कीजिए कि परमेश्वर के इन निर्देशों में कहीं यह नहीं कहा गया है कि परमेश्वर के लोगों को उन्हें बाध्य करना, या किसी लालच द्वारा फुसलाना था, या उनपर ज़ोर देना था कि वे यह करें, परमेश्वर की वाचा को स्वीकार करें, और खतना करवाएं। वरन, जैसे कि पद 48 में लिखा है, “यदि कोई परदेशी तुम लोगों के संग रहकर यहोवा के लिये पर्व को मानना चाहे” - वह “परदेशी”, चाहे कोई भी परदेशी, यात्री, दास - मोल लिया अथवा मजदूर, यदि वह यहोवा के लिए पर्व को मनाना चाहे, तो उसे पहले खतना करवाना होगा, अर्थात प्रकट करना होगा कि वह स्वेच्छा से परमेश्वर की वाचा की अधीनता में आया है, और उसके बाद ही फसह में सम्मिलित हो। इस प्रकार से परमेश्वर ने उसी समय उन गैर-यहूदियों के लिए, अर्थात उन लोगों के लिए भी जो स्वाभाविक रीति से अब्राहम के वंशज नहीं थे, परमेश्वर के लोग हो जाने, और उन्हीं आशीषों के संभागी हो पाने का मार्ग दे दिया; यदि वे स्वेच्छा से अपने आप को परमेश्वर को समर्पित करें। यहाँ पर ध्यान देने योग्य एक और महत्वपूर्ण बात है कि परमेश्वर ने ऐसा कोई निर्देश नहीं दिया कि ऐसे गैर-यहूदियों से यहूदियों में आने वाले लोगों के लिए कोई अलग गोत्र बनाया और रखा जाए; उन्हें किसी भी रीति से ज़रा भी भिन्न समझा जाए। वरन यह कि उन का उन्हीं लोगों के मध्य समावेश किया जाए जिनके मध्य वे रह रहे हों, और उन्हें अब्राहम के वंशजों के समान सभी अधिकार और विशेषाधिकार प्रदान किए जाएं (यहेजकेल 47:22-23)।

      इस्राएल के इतिहास में ऐसा होने के अनेकों उदाहरण विद्यमान हैं। मिस्र से इस्राएलियों के छुड़ाए जाने के समय एक “मिली-जुली भीड़” भी उन लोगों के साथ निकल आई (निर्गमन 12:38)। उस भीड़ को भी परमेश्वर की सुरक्षा, देखभाल, मन्ना, चट्टान से पानी, लाल-सागर के विभाजित होने पर सुरक्षित पार उतर जाना, शत्रुओं के हमलों से रखवाली, आदि सभी बातें वैसे ही उपलब्ध थीं जैसे इस्राएलियों को थीं। यद्यपि वचन में यह नहीं लिखा है कि उनका और उनकी संतान का कनान पहुँचने पर क्या हुआ, लेकिन साथ ही यह भी नहीं लिखा है कि उन्हें कनान में प्रवेश करने से मना किया गया। अर्थात इस्राएलियों से यह नहीं कहा गया कि उन लोगों को अपने से अलग करके उसके बाद कनान में प्रवेश करें। यदि वे इस्राएलियों के साथ कनान तक पहुंचे, तो फिर बहुत संभव है कि वे वाचा की भूमि में इस्राएलियों के साथ उनका भाग बनकर बस भी गए। राहाब वेश्या को इस्राएलियों के मध्य बसा लिया गया और उसका नाम प्रभु यीशु की वंशावली में आता है (मत्ती 1:5)। मोआबी रूत भी यहूदियों में स्वीकार की गई और दाऊद, जिसकी वंशावली में प्रभु यीशु ने जन्म लिया, उसकी परदादी बनी (रूत 4:13, 18-22)। एस्तेर की पुस्तक में हम देखते हैं कि बहुत से लोग यहूदियों से मिल गए और उनका ही भाग बन गए (एस्तेर 8:17)। इस संदर्भ में कृपया यशायाह 14:1; ज़कर्याह 8:20-23; यहेजकेल 47-22-23; होशे 2:23; रोमियों 9:25 भी देखिए। संपूर्ण बाइबल में, नए नियम और प्रकाशितवाक्य की पुस्तकों में भी,इस्राएल के सदा ही बारह गोत्र कहे गए हैं, जो याकूब की संतानों के नाम से जाने जाते हैं। कभी भी गैर-यहूदियों से यहूदियों में मिलने वालों के लिए किसी नए गोत्र को बनाने और निभाने की बात नहीं कही गई है। दूसरे शब्दों में, परमेश्वर ने अब्राहम के स्वाभाविक वंशजों के अतिरिक्त भी अन्य लोगों के लिए उसके लोग बन जाने का मार्ग पुराने नियम में ही खोल दिया था; यदि वे अपनी पुरानी मान्यताओं, रीतियों आदि को छोड़कर, स्वेच्छा से उसे समर्पित होने, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में चलने, उसकी वाचाओं का पालन करने के लिए तैयार हों, परमेश्वर के लोग बनकर इस्राएलियों को दिए गए परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था और निर्देशों का पालन करने के लिए तैयार हों।

        अगले लेख में हम परमेश्वर के इस प्रावधान के, नए नियम में प्रयोग के बारे में देखेंगे।

        यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

The Passover & The Lord’s Table - Invitation to Become God’s People (1)

        In the last article we had seen from Exodus 12:43-49 the reason why the only correct and acceptable manner of participating in the Passover and in the Holy Communion is the one that has been ordained and given by God, none other. Everyone participating through any man-made ways is disobeying God; and disobedience against God is sin, has its deleterious consequences. Therefore, for those who participate in an unworthy manner, “unto men” instead of “to the Lord” as the Word of God instructs; to them what was meant to be a blessing, becomes a curse and cause for harm. We had also mentioned an amazing provision made by God in these verses. We will look up this provision today.

        In the last article, we had seen from this section, that no foreigner, sojourner, servant - bought or hired, no one outside the “congregation of Israel” was permitted to partake of the Passover, unless they first came under God’s covenant with Abraham, and were circumcised. But also notice that these instructions from God do not say that God’s people had to compel, entice, or force others in any manner to get circumcised, i.e., to accept coming under God’s covenant. Rather, as it says in verse 48, “when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the Lord” - that “stranger”, whether a foreigner, sojourner, or any servant - bought or hired, if he wants to keep the Passover to the Lord, then he should first get circumcised, i.e., make it evident that he has willingly submitted to God’s covenant, and then partake of the Passover ‘to the Lord.’ So, God has opened a way for the gentiles, those not Jews or Abraham’s descendants by birth, to still become God’s people, and become partakers of the same blessings; provided they do it willingly, submit to Him volitionally. Another important thing to notice is that God has not instructed that a separate tribe be created and maintained for these gentiles who become God’s people; they were to be amalgamated amongst the people they were living in, and have the same rights and privileges as the actual descendants of Abraham (Ezekiel 47:22-23).

        There are many examples in the history of Israel of this having happened. At the time of the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, a large “mixed-multitude” went out with them (Exodus 12:38). They too received God’s protection, care, Manna, water from the rock, passed through safely through the divided Red Sea, safety from the enemies, etc., as the Israelites did. Although it does not say what happened to them or their children on reaching Canaan, but what it does not also say is that the Israelites were asked to separate them out and not let them enter Canaan. If they reached Canaan with the Israelites, then they quite likely settled in the Promised Land as part of the Israelites. Rahab the harlot was accommodated amongst the Israelites and finds a mention in the genealogy of the Lord Jesus (Matthew 1:5). Ruth, a Moabite, also was accepted into the Jews and became the great-grandmother of David, from whose lineage the Lord Jesus came (Ruth 4:13, 18-22). In the book of Esther, we see that many people joined the Jews and became a part of them (Esther 8:17). In this context, please also see Isaiah 14:1; Zechariah 8:20-23; Ezekiel 47-22-23; Hosea 2:23; Romans 9:25. Throughout the Bible, even in the New Testament and Book of Revelation, Israel has always had twelve tribes, named after the descendants of Jacob; no new tribe was made to accommodate the gentiles that joined them from time-to-time. In other words, God had opened a way for people other than the natural descendants of Abraham, to become the people of God even in the Old Testament, provided they were willing to voluntarily submit to His covenant and instructions, and leaving behind their previous beliefs, live as God’s people obeying God’s Law and instructions, given to the Israelites.

        In the next article we will see how this provision from God is applicable today, in the New Testament times.

        If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

रखवाले (पास्टर) की भूमिका (1)

पिछले कुछ लेखों में हम इफिसियों 4:11 से देखते आ रहे हैं कि प्रभु ने अपनी कलीसिया के कार्यों के लिए, कलीसिया में कुछ कार्यकर्ताओं, कुछ सेवकों को नियुक्त किया है। मूल यूनानी भाषा में इन सेवकों और उनकी सेवकाई के संबंध में प्रयोग किए गए शब्द दिखाते हैं कि ये सेवकाइयां कलीसिया में परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई से संबंधित हैं। इन सेवकों और उनकी सेवकाइयों के संबंध में हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि वर्तमान में इन दायित्वों और सेवकाइयों को अपने नाम के साथ जोड़ कर एक उपाधि के समान प्रयोग करने की सामान्यतः देखी जाने वाली प्रवृत्ति का बाइबल में कोई समर्थन नहीं है। इन सभी दायित्वों और सेवकाइयों के लिए प्रभु ने ही नियुक्ति की है, किसी मनुष्य अथवा संस्था या डिनॉमिनेशन ने नहीं। यह तथ्य इन्हें सेवकाइयों के स्थान पर, “उपाधियों” के समान उपयोग करने, मानो किसी तथा-कथित ईश्वरीय अधिकार के अन्तर्गत, स्वयं ही या फिर किसी संस्था अथवा डिनॉमिनेशन के मनुष्यों के द्वारा इन उपाधियों को देने की वर्तमान परंपरा का भी समर्थन नहीं करता है। साथ ही वर्तमान में एक और बहुत गलत प्रवृत्ति भी देखी जाती है कि लोग इन सेवकाइयों का प्रयोग परमेश्वर के वचन का पालन करना सीखने और सिखाने के स्थान पर, अपनी ही बातों और शिक्षाओं को सिखाने और पालन करवाने के लिए प्रयोग करते हैं, चाहे उनकी वे बातें और शिक्षाएं बाइबल से मेल न भी खाती हों, बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अतिरिक्त हों। ऐसा करके ये लोग परमेश्वर के वचन में जोड़ने या घटाने, उसे अपनी इच्छा और सुविधा के अनुसार बदलने का अस्वीकार्य और दण्डनीय कार्य करते हैं (प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)। यह वही पाप है जो प्रभु यीशु की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के समय फरीसियों, सदूकियों, और शास्त्रियों ने किया, और जिसके लिए प्रभु ने उनकी तीव्र भर्त्सना की, उन्हें दण्डनीय ठहराया (मत्ती 15:3-9, 12-14)।

आज हम इफिसियों 4:11 में दी गई सूची में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा नियुक्त किए जाने वाले प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया के चौथे कार्यकर्ता, रखवाले, के बारे में देखेंगे। मूल यूनानी भाषा के जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “रखवाले” किया गया है, उसका शब्दार्थ है “चरवाहे” या “भेड़ों की रखवाली और चरवाही करने वाले”। प्रभु यीशु मसीह के जन्म के समय, लूका 2:8 में जहाँ स्वर्गदूतों ने मैदान में अपने झुण्ड की पहरेदारी और देखभाल करने वाले लोगों को प्रभु के जन्म का समाचार सुनाया, उन गड़रियों के लिए भी मूल यूनानी भाषा में यही शब्द प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसका अनुवाद यहाँ “रखवाले” किया गया है। तात्पर्य यह कि कलीसिया के रखवाले वे हैं जो एक गड़रिये या चरवाहे के समान अपने “झुण्ड” या उसे सौंपे गए लोगों की देखभाल और सुरक्षा प्रदान करते हैं। बाइबल में प्रभु यीशु मसीह को “प्रधान रखवाला” भी कहा गया है (इब्रानियों 13:20; 1 पतरस 5:4); अर्थात वही अपनी विश्व-व्यापी कलीसिया का मुख्य देखभाल और सुरक्षा करने वाला है, शेष सभी उसी की अधीनता और उसके निर्देशों के अनुसार कार्य करते हैं। साथ ही बाइबल यह भी स्पष्ट बताती है कि प्रभु ने जिन्हें अपनी कलीसिया की देखभाल की ज़िम्मेदारी सौंपी है, जिन्हें अपने “झुण्ड” के अगुवे बनाया है, उन्हें अन्ततः प्रभु को इस ज़िम्मेदारी का हिसाब भी देना होगा, और उनके कार्य के अनुसार उन्हें प्रतिफल मिलेगा (इब्रानियों 13:17; 1 पतरस 5:1-4)। अर्थात, कलीसिया में “रखवाला” या चरवाहा होना बहुत ज़िम्मेदारी का कार्य है, यह लोगों पर अधिकार रखने के लिए नहीं (1 पतरस 5:3), वरन विनम्रता तथा सहनशीलता के साथ प्रभु के लिए उसके लोगों की देखभाल के लिए है (1 पतरस 5:2)। यह सेवकाई केवल नए नियम में ही दी जाने वाली सेवकाई नहीं है, वरन, जैसा हम अभी देखेंगे, पुराने नियम में भी इस्राएल के अगुवों को यही ज़िम्मेदारी, यही सेवकाई सौंपी गई थी।

प्रभु के लोगों में, एक रखवाले या चरवाहे के क्या कार्य होते हैं, उसे प्रभु के “झुण्ड” की चरवाही करने की इस ज़िम्मेदारी को कैसे निभाना है? परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में इसे सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक दोनों ही प्रकार से, पुराने नियम में ही बता दिया गया था। जैसा हमने ऊपर देखा है, प्रभु यीशु को ही कलीसिया का प्रधान रखवाला बताया गया है। इसलिए स्वाभाविक है कि प्रभु परमेश्वर के जीवन और उदाहरण से ही हम इस ज़िम्मेदारी के सर्वश्रेष्ठ निर्वाह के बारे में सीख सकते हैं। इसका सकारात्मक और सर्वोत्तम उदाहरण दाऊद द्वारा लिखित भजन 23 है, जो संक्षेप में किन्तु प्रत्येक बिन्दु का ध्यान करते हुए चरवाहे के कार्य को बता देता है। भजन 23 का आरंभ यहोवा परमेश्वर को चरवाहा बताने के साथ होता है; फिर इससे आगे परमेश्वर द्वारा चरवाहे के रूप में किए गए कार्यों का उल्लेख है:

* पद 1 - वह अपनी भेड़ों को कुछ घटी नहीं होने देता है। पौलुस ने परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में अपने जीवन के उदाहरण से सीखने को बताते हुए लिखा कि जैसे हर दशा में प्रभु उसकी देखभाल करता है, उसे सब कुछ बहुतायत से उपलब्ध है और परमेश्वर उसकी हर आवश्यकता को पूरा करता है - फिलिप्पियों 4 अध्याय पढ़िए, और विशेषकर पद 13, 18, और 19 पर ध्यान कीजिए, वैसे ही प्रभु पौलुस के पाठकों के लिए भी करेगा। कलीसिया के रखवाले को भी उसके झुण्ड के लोगों की आवश्यकताओं का ध्यान रखते हुए, उन को उनकी आवश्यकता के अनुसार उपयुक्त सहायता और प्रावधान उपलब्ध करवाते रहना है जिससे उन्हें कुछ घटी न हो। 

* पद 2 - वह अपनी भेड़ों को उत्तम भोजन और जल उपलब्ध करवाता है - प्रभु यीशु स्वयं हमारे लिए “जीवन की रोटी” और “जीवन का जल” है (यूहन्ना 4:10, 14; 6:33, 35)। कलीसिया के रखवाले को प्रभु यीशु के वचन और शिक्षाओं के उत्तम आत्मिक भोजन को लोगों तक पहुँचाते रहना है जिससे उनका आत्मिक स्वास्थ्य अच्छा रहे, वे किसी गलत शिक्षा या सांसारिक बातों में भटक कर प्रभु से दूर न चले जाएं। 

* पद 3 - वह अशान्ति के समय में अपनी भेड़ों को शांति प्रदान करता है, और परमेश्वर के मार्गों में चलने की अगुवाई प्रदान करता है। कलीसिया के रखवाले को भी उसकी कलीसिया के लोगों को शांति, ढाढ़स, सांत्वना, दुख के समय में सहारा और निराशाओं में प्रोत्साहन देने वाला, और संसार की बातों की मिलावट से बचाकर परमेश्वर के खरे मार्गों में अपने झुण्ड को लिए चलने वाला होना चाहिए। 

* पद 4 - परमेश्वर के लोग उसकी उनके साथ निरंतर बनी उपस्थिति से आश्वस्त और सुरक्षित रहते हैं। अपने सोंटे और लाठी के द्वारा परमेश्वर अपनी भेड़ों को हाँकता भी है, जो इधर-उधर होने लगती हैं, उन्हें हांक कर वापस सही मार्ग में ले आता है; और भक्षक पशुओं से उनकी रक्षा करता है। कलीसिया के रखवाले को वचन रूपी लाठी और सोंटे से अपनी कलीसिया के लोगों को समझाना, सुधारना, सिखाना है, और जहाँ आवश्यक हो उलाहना देना और डांटना भी है (2 तीमुथियुस 3:16; 4:2-4)। 

* पद 5 - परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की कठिनाइयों में उनकी रक्षा और सहायता करता है; उनके लिए आवश्यक भली वस्तुएं उन्हें उपलब्ध करवाता है। कलीसिया के रखवाले को भी अपने लोगों के साथ हर परिस्थिति में खड़े रहकर उनकी सहायता करते रहना है, उन्हें सुरक्षा प्रदान करनी है, इधर-उधर भटकने और लज्जित होने से रोक कर रखना है, बचाना है। 

* पद 6 - परमेश्वर अपने साथ रहने और उस पर भरोसा रखने वाले लोगों को न केवल इस जीवन में उनकी भलाई के लिए आश्वस्त रखता है वरन साथ ही उनके परलोक के अनन्त जीवन के विषय भी आश्वस्त रखता है। कलीसिया के रखवाले को भी अपने लोगों को इस लोक और परलोक के विषय बताना और सिखाना है, तथा उन्हें इस जीवन में तथा परलोक के अनन्त जीवन में सही स्थान पर और सुरक्षित रहना सिखाना है।

अगले लेख में हम रखवालों या चरवाहों के द्वारा नकारात्मक रवैया रखने और अपनी जिम्मेदारियों का निर्वाह नहीं करने के बारे में देखेंगे।

Pastors, Their Role & Functions (1)

Since the past few articles, we have been seeing from Ephesians 4:11 that for the works and functioning of His Church, the Lord Jesus has set some ministries and appointed some workers for those ministries. In context of the Church and Christian Faith, the words used in the original Greek language that they were written in, for these ministries and workers show that they are related to the ministry of God’s Word in the Churches. We have also seen that today there is an unBiblical tendency to use these ministries and responsibilities as titles for conveying superiority over others; something for which there is neither any example nor support from God’s Word. All of these ministries and responsibilities have been given by Lord, and He alone appointed the persons to carry them out. This fact nullifies the present-day practice of people taking these as ‘titles’ upon themselves, or some group, sect, or denomination appointing some persons to them; as if by divine authority. Another very wrong thing seen these days, related to these ministries, is that people use them not to preach and teach the Word of God in truth and with sincerity, but their own contrived doctrines and ideas, whether or not what they preach and teach is according to the Bible. By doing this, these people become guilty of the sin of adding to, or taking away from, God’s Word according to their convenience, and will have to suffer the severe consequences (Revelation 22:18-19). This is the same sin that the Pharisees, Sadducees, and the Scribes committed at the time the Lord was on earth, and were severely castigated for it by the Lord (Matthew 15:3-9, 12-14).

Today we will see about the workers appointed by the Lord for the fourth ministry given in Ephesians 4:11, the Pastors. The word used in the original Greek language, and translated as ‘Pastor’, literally means a shepherd or one who looks after the sheep, and some English translations use the word “Shepherd” instead of “Pastors” here in this verse. In Luke 2:8, where at the time of the birth of the Lord Jesus, the angels announced the birth to the shepherds tending their flocks, this same word is used in Greek for those shepherds, as has been used in Ephesians 4:11 and translated as “Pastors.” In other words, the “Pastors” in a Church, amongst the Christian Believers, have the same role and function as a shepherd has for his flock of sheep. A Pastor has to look-after and keep the “flock” entrusted to him safe and secure, in the same manner as a shepherd does for his flock. In the Bible, the Lord Jesus has also been called “The Chief Shepherd” (Hebrews 13:20; 1 Peter 5:4); i.e., He is the one who is in-charge of taking care of His world-wide Church and flock of Believers, all the rest of the ‘shepherds’ have to function under Him and for Him, as He instructs and guides them in their roles and responsibilities. The Bible also makes it very clear that those to whom the Lord has entrusted this responsibility of being the “Pastors” or care-takers of His flock, they will eventually have to give an account to Him and receive their rewards for their performance (Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 5:1-4). Therefore, to be a Pastor or care-taker of a Church is a work of great responsibility, it is not for exercising authority over people (1 Peter 5:3), but to very humbly and with a lot of forbearance take care of the Church and people of the Lord (1 Peter 5:2). This responsibility was not given just in the New Testament, but as we will see just now, the same responsibility was given to the elders of Israel to take care of the Israelites as well.

Amongst the people of the Lord, what are the works and functions of a Shepherd or Pastor? How should he be fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him? In God’s Word, in the Old Testament itself, this has been clearly told by God, in its positive as well as negative aspects. As we have seen above, the Lord Jesus is the Chief Shepherd of His Church. Therefore, it is only natural that we can best learn from the life and example of the Lord Jesus, about how best to fulfill this responsibility. The best positive example of this is Psalm 23 written by David, which in brief tells about a shepherd’s responsibilities, in every verse. This Psalm starts with naming God as the Shepherd, and then from there goes on to tell how God carries out His role as the Shepherd:

* Verse 1 - He does not let His sheep face any lack. Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, using his own life and ministry as an example wrote, just as God takes care of him in all situations and provides for him in all circumstances, and he has everything to meet his needs - read Philippians chapter 4, and particularly pay attention to verses 13, 18, and 19, similarly God will also provide for and meet the needs of Paul’s audience as well. The shepherd of the church should also remain aware of the needs of his flock, and provide the required help and provisions to them, so that they lack nothing.

* Verse 2 - He arranges for good food and water for His sheep - the Lord Jesus is the “Bread of life” and the “Water of life” (John 4:10, 14; 6:33, 35). The caretakers of the Church should see that the flock receives good, nutritious spiritual food and water from God’s Word, so that their spiritual health does not suffer, but improves continually. He should ensure that they do not fall into any wrong teachings and worldliness, and get carried away from the Lord.

* Verse 3 - He provides comfort and peace to the sheep when they are restless and discomfited, and provides leadership for them to walk in the ways of the Lord God. A Pastor, the caretaker of the flock, should provide rest, comfort, peace, assurance and support in trying times, encouragement and guidance in discouragements and defeats; and he should ensure that they remain away from compromising with God’s Word, from the corruption of the world, and walk in the correct ways of the Lord.

* Verse 4 - God’s people feel comforted, assured, and secure because of His continual presence with them. He helps and guides them with His staff and His rod; the sheep that start wandering away from the right way, He prods back onto the right way, and keeps them safe from predators. The Pastor of the Church has to use the ‘rod and staff’ - the Word of God to teach, correct, instruct in righteousness, convince and teach with longsuffering, and wherever necessary, rebuke and exhort as well (2 Timothy 3:16; 4:2-4).

* Verse 5 - God keeps His people safe and secure in their difficult times, helps them, and provides the appropriate things for them according to their circumstances. The Pastor, the shepherd of the flock too, needs to stand with his people in all their situations and circumstances; keep them safe, prevent them from wandering away into wrongs, and safeguard them from being brought to shame.

* Verse 6 - God not only assures and provides good things in this life to His people, His Believers, but also assures them of eternal life and eternal rewards. The Pastor of the church too needs to teach his flock about the things of this world and of the next, and has to show them how to be safe and secure for this life as well as the next.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

पाप का प्रभाव प्रत्येक मनुष्य के परलोक के जीवन पर भी पड़ता है। पापों की क्षमा पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, इस पृथ्वी पर प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में उसकी उपयोगिता के लिए बिताए गए जीवन के अनुसार, स्वर्ग में आदर और प्रतिफल भी मिलेंगे “भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:8)। किन्तु इस आज्ञाकारिता के साथ ही, पृथ्वी पर उसके द्वारा की गई परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता तथा पाप उसके इन प्रतिफलों को बिगाड़ता भी रहता है। स्वर्ग में मनुष्य को मिलने वाले प्रतिफल इन दोनों - भले और बुरे के कुल योग के अनुसार दिए जाएंगे। किन्तु ये आदर और प्रतिफल मिलने से पहले प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन के प्रत्येक कार्य की बहुत बारीकी से जाँच भी की जाएगी, “क्योंकि अवश्य है, कि हम सब का हाल मसीह के न्याय आसन के सामने खुल जाए, कि हर एक व्यक्ति अपने अपने भले बुरे कामों का बदला जो उसने देह के द्वारा किए हों पाए।” (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10); “क्योंकि वह समय आ पहुंचा है, कि पहिले परमेश्वर के लोगों का न्याय किया जाए, और जब कि न्याय का आरम्भ हम ही से होगा तो उन का क्या अन्त होगा जो परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार को नहीं मानते? और यदि धर्मी व्यक्ति ही कठिनता से उद्धार पाएगा, तो भक्तिहीन और पापी का क्या ठिकाना?” (1 पतरस 4:17-18)। 

यहाँ पर अक्सर लोग परमेश्वर द्वारा अंगीकार किए गए पापों को पीठ के पीछे फेंक देने, काली घटा के समान मिटा देने (यशायाह 38:17; 43:25; 44:22), आदि प्रतिज्ञाओं का हवाला देकर यह प्रमाणित करना चाहते हैं कि जिन पापों को परमेश्वर ने क्षमा कर दिया है, उनका कोई हिसाब नहीं लिया जाएगा। किन्तु उनकी यह धारणा, वचन की सही व्याख्या और शिक्षा के अनुकूल नहीं है। यह स्वयं में एक विस्तृत विषय है, जिसे हमने हाल ही में सम्पन्न हुई व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित लेखों की शृंखला में, इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई छः में से छठी बात, "अन्तिम न्याय" पर चर्चा के दौरा विस्तार से देखा और समझा था।

* न केवल कार्यों का, वरन हर एक मनुष्य को अपनी हर व्यर्थ बात, हर शब्द का भी हिसाब देना होगा, “और मैं तुम से कहता हूं, कि जो जो निकम्मी बातें मनुष्य कहेंगे, न्याय के दिन हर एक बात का लेखा देंगे। क्योंकि तू अपनी बातों के कारण निर्दोष और अपनी बातों ही के कारण दोषी ठहराया जाएगा” (मत्ती 12:36-37)। 

     * परमेश्वर मसीही विश्वासियों की बातचीत को ध्यान से सुनता है और उसके सम्मुख उन बातों का लेखा रखा जाता है, “तब यहोवा का भय मानने वालों ने आपस में बातें की, और यहोवा ध्यान धर कर उनकी सुनता था; और जो यहोवा का भय मानते और उसके नाम का सम्मान करते थे, उनके स्मरण के निमित्त उसके सामने एक पुस्तक लिखी जाती थी” (मलाकी 3:16)। 

इसलिए कोई भी यह न समझे कि उद्धार पाने के बाद पाप करने से उसे अब कोई हानि नहीं होगी। परमेश्वर मूर्ख नहीं है, कि मनुष्य उद्दंड होकर उसकी उदारता, कृपा, और प्रेम का दुरुपयोग कर ले और परमेश्वर बस एक मूक दर्शक ही बनकर मनुष्य द्वारा उसकी भली मनसा का अनुचित लाभ उठाते हुए देखता रह जाए। इसलिए शैतान के द्वारा फैलाई जा रही इन व्यर्थ और मिथ्या बातों पर ध्यान मत दीजिए। प्रभु के आपके प्रति प्रमाणित किए गए प्रेम, कृपा, और अनुग्रह, तथा उसके द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए जा रहे पाप-क्षमा प्राप्त करने के अवसर के मूल्य को समझिए, और अभी इस अवसर का लाभ उठा लीजिए। प्रभु यीशु ने तो अपना काम कर के दे दिया है; किन्तु क्या आपने उसके इस आपकी ओर बढ़े हुए प्रेम और अनुग्रह के हाथ को थाम लिया है, उसकी भेंट को स्वीकार कर लिया है? या आप अभी भी अपने ही प्रयासों के द्वारा वह करना चाह रहे हैं जो मनुष्यों के लिए कर पाना असंभव है।

Since the previous article we have started considering the often raised question, "In the doctrine of eternal salvation, one that cannot ever be lost, isn’t the freedom to continue to sin with impunity implied?" We had seen that God is well aware of this possibility, and has put in place appropriate measures to deal with the misuse of this provision of His. Every sin has a harmful effect, both, in this world, as well as the next. The discussion about suffering the consequences of sin in this earthly life is a long one, and we will look into it in the next article. Today we will look at the effects of sin on the afterlife, i.e., the eternal life after a person dies and leaves this earth.

The effects of sin also come upon man’s afterlife, i.e., his spirit’s life, after his physical body’s death on earth. For the Christian Believer who has received forgiveness of sins, according to the life of obedience he has lived towards the Lord while on earth, how useful he has been on earth for the Lord, he will get honor and rewards in heaven “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). But along with his obedience, his disobedience towards the Lord and the sins committed here on earth, also keep adversely affecting those heavenly rewards. Eventually in heaven, he will get the rewards according to the net result of his good and bad deeds, his life of obedience and utility for the Lord and his life of disobedience and creating problems for the Lord. These rewards will be given after a very minute and thorough scrutiny of each Believer’s life, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10); and “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"” (1 Peter 4:17-18). 

At this point people usually quote the promises of God about casting the confessed sins behind His back, wiping them away like a dark cloud (Isaiah 38:17; 43:25; 44:22), and try to prove that there will not be any accountability for the sins that have once been forgiven. But their this concept and understanding is not in accordance with the correct interpretation and teachings of the Word. This in itself is a long topic, and we have considered it in detail in a recently concluded series of articles on Practical Christian Living, when we were considering "Eternal Judgment," the sixth of the six Elementary Principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2.    

 

Let us look at some more verses from the Bible about the effects of sin on man's afterlife:

* Every sin, every disobedience spoils the rewards of the Christian Believer; and the person whose life has been one of carelessness and waywardness, then his sins could either not have allowed any heavenly rewards to get accumulated, or may have even eaten away all his heavenly rewards, and then though he will enter into heaven, but will remain empty handed for eternity, “each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire” (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

* Every person will not only have to give an account of everything he has done, but also give an account of every vain talk and words spoken by him, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."” (Matthew 12:36-37).

* God very carefully listens to the conversations of the Christian Believers, and they are recorded before Him “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name” (Malachi 3:16).

Therefore, let no one think that sinning after being saved has no consequences, there will be no harm. God is not a fool and cannot be mocked; no man can take for granted and misuse His grace, benevolence, kindness, and love, and get away with it lightly; God will not remain a helpless, silent spectator to man making a mockery of His grace. Therefore, do not be beguiled and carried away by these false notions and unBiblical teachings being spread by Satan. Understand the value and importance of the love and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus to redeem you of your sins. The Lord Jesus has done His part; He has made ready and available salvation with all the benefits freely to everyone; but have you accepted His offer? Have you taken His hand of love and grace extended towards you and the free gift He offers; or are you still determined to do that which no man can ever accomplish through his own efforts?

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." मसीही जीवन के चार स्तम्भ - 4 - प्रार्थना (35) 

व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातों के मूल स्वरूप और आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासियों तथा कलीसियाओं द्वारा उन बातों के पालन किए जाने के बारे में सीखने के लिए, हम इन बातों को परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए उदाहरणों तथा संबंधित हवालों से देखते और समझते आ रहे हैं। जैसा हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं, प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित सात बातें दी गई हैं। पहली तीन बातें, जो मसीही विश्वास में आने, मसीही जीवन आरम्भ करने से सम्बन्धित हैं, वे पतरस द्वारा भक्त यहूदियों को किए गए प्रचार के अन्त की ओर, प्रेरितों 2:38-41 में दी गई हैं। और शेष चार, जिनका आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर पालन करते थे, वे प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई हैं, और मसीही जीवन पर उनके सकारात्मक प्रभाव के कारण उन्हें “मसीही जीवन के स्तम्भ” भी कहा जाता है। इन चार में से पहली तीन बातों पर विचार कर लेने के बाद, अब हम चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने पर विचार कर रहे हैं। प्रार्थना से सम्बन्धित बुनियादी बातों को देखने और समझने के बाद, अब हम मसीहियों में बहुत आम प्रयोग की जाने वाली “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” पर मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने देखा है कि यह हर अवसर और हर बात के लिए, बिना सोचे-समझे, यूँ ही दोहराई जाने वाली कोई प्रार्थना नहीं है। वरन प्रभु यीशु ने अपने सच्चे समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों को, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाएं बनाने के लिए एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा दिया है। मत्ती के इस खण्ड में, प्रभु ने पद 11-13a में तीन बातें कही हैं, जिन्हें प्रभु के शिष्यों को परमेश्वर से माँगना है। ये तीन बातें हैं, परमेश्वर पिता पर निर्भर रहना, क्षमाशील होना, और पिता परमेश्वर द्वारा परीक्षा में न लाए जाने और बुराई से बचाए रखने का निवेदन करना। पिछले दो लेखों में तीसरी बात को देखने और समझने के बाद, आज हम देखेंगे कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को, विशेषकर उन्हें जो इन बातों में उन्नत होना चाहते हैं, इनकी आशीषों को प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं, उन्हें किस प्रकार प्रशिक्षित करता है।

हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है कि परमेश्वर हमारे बारे में सब कुछ जानता है (यूहन्ना 2:24-25); किन्तु उसके प्रति हमारे विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की वास्तविक दशा को हम पर प्रकट करने के लिए, परमेश्वर हमें परीक्षाओं से होकर निकालता है, ताकि हम समय रहते अपने भटकने, अपनी गलतियों, और अपनी कमजोरियों को पहचान जाएं, और उन्हें सुधार लें। जैसा हम अपने प्रतिदिन के जीवन और व्यवहार से जानते और समझते हैं, किसी भी वस्तु की वास्तविकता, उसे उन परिस्थितियों में उपयोग करने के द्वारा ही पता चलती है, जिनके लिए उसे तैयार किया गया है। मसीही विश्वासियों को प्रशिक्षित, परिपक्व, एवं दृढ़ बनाने के लिए परमेश्वर इन दोनों व्यावहारिक और सैद्धांतिक बातों का उनके जीवन में प्रयोग करता है। 

मत्ती 6:11 में दी गई पहली बात है, अपनी रोज की रोटी के लिए परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहना। अर्थात दिन-प्रतिदिन के हिसाब से जीवन जीना; मत्ती 6:33-34 को मानते हुए उसका पालन करना, और अपने मन में निश्चित रहना कि जब कल आएगा, तब कल की आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार परमेश्वर उन आवश्यकताओं के लिए प्रावधान भी करके देगा; जैसे अब्राहम ने इसहाक को सिखाया (उत्पत्ति 22:7-8)। इस प्रशिक्षण के लिए, परमेश्वर हमें आवश्यकताओं में, कमी-घटी में, परेशानियों में जा लेने देगा (व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:3-6); और हमें हमारी मनसा, युक्तियों पर छोड़ देगा। उन आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए हमारे सामने सांसारिकता के अनुसार चलने का, संसार से समझौता करने का अवसर होगा। अब यह हम पर, परमेश्वर पर हमारे विश्वास की दृढ़ता पर, निर्भर होगा कि हम कुछ समय के दुःख और कुछ हानि सहते हुए भी अपने मसीही विश्वास, और परमेश्वर की योजनाओं पर अपने भरोसे को बनाए रखते हैं, और परीक्षा से पार हो जाते हैं, जैसा अय्यूब  ने किया; या दुःख, तकलीफ, असुविधाओं से बचने के लिए संसार के साथ समझौता कर लेते हैं, किन्तु परीक्षा में असफल रहते हैं; जो हमें हमारे विश्वास की वास्तविकता और दृढ़ता को प्रकट कर देता है। प्रतिदिन के प्रावधान के लिए परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहने का अर्थ है, बिना परमेश्वर पर, उसकी योजनाओं पर, उसके प्रावधानों पर सन्देह किए, बिना संसार के मार्गों को अपनाए, परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार चलते रहना, चाहे उसके लिए कुछ दुःख, हानि, असुविधा क्यों न उठानी पड़े। 

अगले लेख में हम प्रार्थना के दूसरे और तीसरे बिन्दु के लिए प्रशिक्षित किए जाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (35)

 

To learn about the original form of the things related to practical Christian living, and how the initial Christian Believers and churches practiced them, we are considering and understanding these things through the examples and references about them in God’s Word the Bible. As we have seen in the earlier articles, there are seven things related to practical Christian living given in Acts 2. The first three things, that are related to coming into the Christian faith, are given towards the end of Peter’s sermon to the devout Jews, in Acts 2:38-41. The remaining four, those that the initial Christian Believers followed steadfastly, are given in Acts 2:42. Because of their positive effect on Christian living, they are also known as “Pillars of Christin Living.” Having considered the first three of these four, we are now considering the fourth one, praying. Having seen and understood the fundamental things related to prayer, now we are considering something that is very commonly used amongst the Christiana, the “Lord’s Prayer” on the basis of Matthew 6:5-15. We have seen that it is not something that has been given for being said as a formality by rote on every occasion and for all situations, without even knowing about it or understanding it. Rather, the Lord Jesus has given to His true, surrendered, and obedient disciples an outline, a framework, for saying prayers that would be acceptable to God. In this passage from Matthew, the Lord in verses 11-13a has said three things, which the disciples of the Lord should ask from God. These three things are, to be dependent upon Father God, to be forgiving, and to request God the Father that He would not lead them into temptation and also keep them safe from evil. Having seen about the third of these three in the previous two articles, today we will see how God trains His people, especially those who want to be edified in these things, and receive the blessings associated with them.

We have seen in the previous articles that that God knows everything about us (John 2:24-25); but to make us aware of the actual state of our faith, obedience, and mentality towards Him, God allows us to go through trials and temptations, so that we may know about our getting misled, realize our mistakes, and learn of our weaknesses and rectify them well in time. As we know and understand from our day-to-day lives and behavior, the actual state of anything is only known when it is put to use for the purpose it has been made. To make us Christian Believers trained, mature, and steadfast, God uses both of these practical and fundamental principles in our lives.

In Matthew 6:11 we have the first thing – depend upon God for our daily bread. In other words, to live life one day at a time, believing in and trusting Matthew 6:33-34, being confident in our hearts that when ‘tomorrow’ comes, then according to the needs of ‘tomorrow’ God will make the necessary provisions; as Abraham taught Isaac (Genesis 22:7-8). For this training, God allows us to go through needs, deficiencies, problems (Deuteronomy 8:3-6); and leaves us to our own thinking and devices. To fulfill those needs, we will have before us the opportunities to do things like the world does, to compromise with the world. Now, it is left to us to depend upon our faith in God, and be willing to go through times of pain and some loss, while continuing to trust our Christian faith and the plans that God has made for us, and successfully go through the trials, as Job did; or to escape pain, problems, and discomfort compromise with the world, but fail in our being evaluated; and that makes the actual state of our faith and its steadfastness evident to us. To remain dependent upon God for our daily needs means to trust God without doubting His plans, His provisions for us and without taking recourse to the ways of the world, continue to move on the path laid out for us by God, even if it means suffering pain, problems, and discomfort.

In the next article we will consider about being trained for the second and third prayer points.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
