       प्रभु यीशु मसीह के द्वारा फसह खाते समय प्रभु भोज की स्थापना को नए नियम से सीखने के लिए, हमें चारों सुसमाचारों में,  मत्ती 26, मरकुस 14, लूका 22, और यूहन्ना 13 में दिए गए विवरणों को साथ मिलाकर देखना चाहिए, क्योंकि भिन्न लेखकों ने घटनाक्रम के भिन्न भागों को लिखा है। पिछले लेखों में हमने आरंभिक भाग के बारे में देखा है, अर्थात, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा शिष्यों के साथ फसह खाने की तैयारी करने के बारे में। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि यह फसह न तो सांसारिक पारिवारिक रूप में प्रभु यीशु के घर में मनाया गया, न किसी शिष्य के घर में; किन्तु एक विश्वास में स्थापित हुए परिवार के समान, एक बिल्कुल ही भिन्न ऐसे स्थान पर मनाया गया, जिसके बारे में, इसके घटित होने से पहले, शिष्य भी नहीं जानते थे। हम यह इसलिए कह सकते हैं क्योंकि हमने मत्ती 26:17-19 तथा लूका 10-13 से देखा है कि शिष्यों के प्रश्न के उत्तर में, कि फसह की तैयारी कहाँ पर की जाए, प्रभु यीशु न तो किसी का नाम लेते हैं, और न ही उस स्थान का कोई पता बताते हैं, परंतु पतरस और यूहन्ना से कहते हैं कि अमुक स्थान पर जाएं, वहाँ उन्हें एक व्यक्ति घड़ा लिए हुए जाता मिलेगा, उसके पीछे-पीछे जाएं और जिस भी घर में वह जाए उसके स्वामी से जाकर कहें कि उन्हें वह कमरा दिखाए जहाँ पर फसह की तैयारी करनी है। इसलिए, यह बहुत संभव है कि शिष्य न तो इस व्यक्ति से परिचित थे न उस स्थान को जानते थे, जिस घर में उन्हें फसह की तैयारी करनी थी। हम देखते हैं कि मरकुस 14:13-16 तथा लूका 22:10-13 में कुछ वर्णन दिया गया है जो मत्ती और यूहन्ना में नहीं दिया गया है। हमने इसका कुछ भाग पिछले लेख में देखा है, और साथ ही प्रभु के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता के महत्व को भी देखा है, चाहे वह जो कह रहा है वह कितना ही असंभव और असमंजस में डालने वाला प्रतीत हो, और यही लगे कि प्रभु की बात के सफल होने की बजाए असफल होने की संभावना कहीं अधिक है। किन्तु प्रभु के निर्देशों के प्रति बिना कोई प्रश्न किए आज्ञाकारी बने रहने के द्वारा उन सभी को बहुत लाभ भी मिला।

        बाइबल में कहीं पर भी उस व्यक्ति की कोई पहचान नहीं दी गई है, और न ही उसके बारे में कोई संकेत किया गया है, जिसके घर में उन्होंने फसह को खाया था। मरकुस 14:14 और लूका 22:11 से हम बस इतना जानने पाते हैं कि वह प्रभु यीशु को “गुरु” के रूप में जानता था; और जब पतरस तथा यूहन्ना ने उसे प्रभु का संदेश दिया तो उसने बिना कोई प्रश्न किए तुरन्त ही पहले से तैयार किया गया बड़ा सा ऊपर का कमरा उन्हें दिखा दिया; और उन्होंने वहीं पर तैयारी की।

       यह सभी बातें बहुत असमंजस में डालने वाली लगती हैं; प्रभु यीशु इस गुप्त सी रीति से, बिना शिष्यों को कोई विवरण बताए, यह सब क्यों कर रहा था? वास्तविकता में, यह सब करने के पीछे प्रभु की एक बड़ी योजना थी। इसे समझने के लिए हम वापस उस प्रश्न की ओर चलते हैं जिसके साथ यह घटनाक्रम आरंभ हुआ; प्रश्न जो शिष्यों ने प्रभु से पूछा “तू कहां चाहता है, कि हम जा कर तेरे लिये फसह खाने की तैयारी करें?” पहले तीनों सुसमाचार, मत्ती, मरकुस, और लूका एक ही शब्द “तैयारी करें” प्रयोग करते हैं; शिष्य प्रभु से तैयारी करने के स्थान के बारे में पूछ रहे थे। परन्तु वास्तविकता में, प्रभु उन्हें आने वाली घटनाओं के लिए तैयार कर रहा था, जो कुछ ही घंटों में उनके साथ होने वाली थीं; इतनी दिल दहला देने वाली और विश्वास को झकझोर देने वाली कि उनके कारण शिष्य पूरी तरह से हिल जाएंगे और वह कर जाएंगे जिसकी उन्होंने कभी कल्पना भी नहीं की थी।  जैसा हम मत्ती 26:1-2 से देख चुके हैं, प्रभु ने उन्हें पहले से ही जो उसके साथ यरूशलेम में होने वाला था उसके बारे में सचेत कर दिया था कि उसे पकड़वाया जाएगा और क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने के लिए सौंप दिया जाएगा। किन्तु बजाए इसके कि वे शिष्य प्रभु से पूछते कि इस भयानक घटना के लिए वे कैसे तैयार हों, उन्हें क्या करना चाहिए, किसी ने भी प्रभु की बात पर ध्यान नहीं दिया, किसी ने उसकी चेतावनी को गंभीरता से नहीं लिया, सभी शिष्यों ने इसे नज़रंदाज़ कर दिया।  अब इन बातों के घटित होने का समय निकट था, कुछ ही घंटे बचे थे, और शिष्य अभी भी प्रभु की कही बात के बारे में उदासीन थे।

        अगले लेख में हम उस बात के बारे में, जिसके लिए प्रभु अपने शिष्यों को सिखा रहा था, तैयार कर रहा था, और आज हमारे लिए उस बात तथा तैयारी के अर्थ और महत्व के बारे देखेंगे।

        यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

The Lord’s Table - A Preparation For Facing Trials (1)

 

       In studying the establishing of the Holy Communion by the Lord Jesus, at the time when He was eating the Passover with His disciples, from the New Testament, we need to put together the details given in the four Gospels, from Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22, and John 13, since different authors have stated different parts of the events. In the previous articles we have seen about the initial part, i.e., about the Lord Jesus getting ready to eat the Passover with His disciples. In the last article we had seen that this Passover was neither celebrated as earthly families at the Lord’s, nor at one of the disciple’s homes; rather, as a family of faith, it was celebrated at a totally different place, about which even the disciples did not know of before this happened. We can say this because we have seen from Matthew 26:17-19 and Luke 22:10-13 that in response to the question of the disciples about where to prepare the Passover, the Lord Jesus neither mentions anyone’s name nor any address, but asks Peter and John to go to a certain place, where they will see a person carrying a pitcher of water; they were to follow him, and whichever house he went into, to ask the owner of that house to show them the room, where they were to prepare for the Passover. Therefore, quite likely, the disciples were neither familiar with the place nor aware of this person in whose house they were going to eat the Passover. We see that Mark 14:13-16 and Luke 22:10-13 have given some details that Matthew and John do not mention. We have seen a part of it in the last article, and seen the importance of obedience to the Lord, even though what He says may sound implausible or perplexing, and may seem more likely to fail than succeed. But unquestioning obedience and fulfilling the Lord’s instructions benefitted them all immensely.

        Nowhere in the Bible, has the identity of the person in whose house they ate that Passover been given or even hinted. From Mark 14:14 and Luke 22:11 all we can learn is that the owner of that house knew the Lord Jesus as “The Teacher”; and when Peter and John conveyed the Lord’s message to him, he immediately, unquestioningly showed them the large upper room, already furnished and made ready for the occasion; and they prepared for the Passover there.

        All of this seems quite perplexing; why was the Lord Jesus doing this in a secretive manner, not laying open the details before His disciples, instructing them sequentially for the occasion? Actually, there is a great purpose the Lord has in doing all this. Let us go back to the initial question the disciples had put to the Lord Jesus, the place where this whole process was put into motion - “Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?” The first three Gospels - Matthew, Mark, and Luke, use the same word “prepare” in the question; the disciples were asking where to prepare the Passover. But actually, it was the Lord Jesus who was preparing them for the coming events that would unfold in a few hours; very terrifying and faith shaking events that would shake the disciples to their core and make them do the unthinkable. As we have seen from Matthew 26:1-2 in the earlier articles, the Lord had forewarned them about what was waiting for Him in Jerusalem, that He would be caught and be delivered to be crucified. But instead of asking the Lord what He would have them do to prepare for this terrible event, no one paid heed to this, no one took Him seriously, all the disciples ignored it. Now, the time of these things happening was at hand, just a few hours away, and the disciples were still not concerned about what the Lord had said.

       In the next article we will see about that, which the Lord was preparing His disciples about and teaching them, and see its meaning and importance for us today.

       If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

मसीहियत में विश्वास से अभिप्राय

मसीही विश्वास एवं शिष्यता से संबंधित बातों को देखते हुए, हम पिछले लेखों से जान चुके हैं कि न तो मसीही विश्वास कोई धर्म है, और न ही किसी धर्म परिवर्तन की बात है, वरन आरंभिक मसीही विश्वासी स्वेच्छा से प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिष्यता को स्वीकार करने वाले लोग थे; उनका धर्म नहीं बदला, वरन उनका मन संसार और पाप से प्रभु परमेश्वर की ओर बदल गया। पिछले लेख में हमने आरंभिक मसीही विश्वास और विश्वासियों के इतिहास के बारे में बाइबल की पुस्तक, प्रेरितों के काम, से देखा था कि आरंभिक मसीही विश्वासी “पंथ के लोग”, अर्थात सामान्य लोगों और संसार की जीवन शैली से पृथक एक विशिष्ट जीवन शैली जीने वाले लोग होने के लिए जाने जाते थे (प्रेरितों 9:2)। और कुछ समय के बाद वे जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य थे, उन्हें संसार के लोगों ने मसीही कहना आरंभ कर दिया (प्रेरितों 11:26)। निष्कर्ष यह कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार मसीही वह है जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य है; जो संसार के लोगों के मार्ग से पृथक प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिखाए मार्ग के अनुसार जीवन जीता है। मसीही विश्वास से संबंधित इन आधारभूत तथ्यों में एक और आधारभूत बात निहित है कि क्योंकि मसीही विश्वासी होना व्यक्तिगत और स्वेच्छा से लिए निर्णय पर निर्भर है, इसलिए वास्तव में मसीही विश्वासी होना किसी भी व्यक्ति के लिए तब तक सम्भव नहीं है, जब तक कि वह अपने लिए सोच-समझकर निर्णय ले सकने की आयु का न हो जाए। इसका तात्पर्य यह है कि कोई भी जन अपने जन्म से मसीही विश्वासी नहीं हो सकता ह; अर्थात सच में मसीही विश्वासी होना किसी परिवार विशेष में जन्म लेने के द्वारा या किसी धर्म के पालन के द्वारा नहीं है, वरन स्वेच्छा और सच्चे समर्पण के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिष्यता को ग्रहण करने, उसे अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार के उसका अनुयायी हो जाने के द्वारा है। बाइबल के अनुसार तो मसीही विश्वासी होने के लिए, इसके अतिरिक्त और कोई मार्ग है ही नहीं। 

बहुत से लोग, विशेषकर ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वाले, यह कहते हैं कि वे प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास करते हैं; तो क्या अपने इस दावे या धारणा के कारण वे उद्धार पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी कहलाए जा सकते हैं? प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास करने का, बाइबल के आधार पर, क्या अर्थ है? क्या हर कोई व्यक्ति जो अपने ही किसी भी आधार पर प्रभु यीशु पर विश्वास करने का दावा करता है, वह उद्धार पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी है? इस बात को समझने के लिए हमें बाइबल के दो पदों का अध्ययन करना आवश्यक है। इनमें से पहला पद हमें स्पष्ट करेगा कि कैसे प्रभु यीशु पर विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार या नया जन्म मिलता है; और दूसरा पद समझाएगा कि बाइबल के अनुसार मसीह यीशु में विश्वास करने का अर्थ क्या है। इन पदों में व्यक्त बातें परमेश्वर के वचन का वह आधार है जिसके अनुसार उद्धार, मसीही जीवन, और सुसमाचार प्रचार की सेवकाई प्रतिपादित की गई। ये दो पद हैं:

1. “वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” (मत्ती 1:21)। 

2. “परन्तु जितनों ने उसे ग्रहण किया, उसने उन्हें परमेश्वर के सन्तान होने का अधिकार दिया, अर्थात उन्हें जो उसके नाम पर विश्वास रखते हैं। वे न तो लहू से, न शरीर की इच्छा से, न मनुष्य की इच्छा से, परन्तु परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं” (यूहन्ना 1:12-13)।

आज हम इनमें से पहले पद को देखेंगे, और संबंधित दूसरे पद पर कल विचार करेंगे। आज के विचार के लिए, उसके संदर्भ सहित, प्रथम पद है “जब वह इन बातों के सोच ही में था तो प्रभु का स्वर्गदूत उसे स्‍वप्‍न में दिखाई देकर कहने लगा; हे यूसुफ दाऊद की सन्तान, तू अपनी पत्‍नी मरियम को अपने यहां ले आने से मत डर; क्योंकि जो उसके गर्भ में है, वह पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से है। वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” (मत्ती 1:20-21)। प्रभु यीशु मसीह का सांसारिक पिता, यूसुफ, अपनी पत्नी मरियम को अपने घर लाने से घबरा रहा था, क्योंकि वह विवाह से पहले ही गर्भवती पाई गई थी। यूसुफ मरियम को छोड़ देने के बारे में विचार कर रहा था, ऐसे में उसे परमेश्वर की ओर से स्वप्न में स्वर्गदूत ने उसे आश्वस्त किया कि मरियम ने कुछ गलत नहीं किया है, वह अभी भी कुँवारी ही है, और यूसुफ बिना उस पर कोई संदेह किए उसे निःसंकोच अपने घर ला सकता है। फिर स्वर्गदूत यूसुफ को मरियम के गर्भ में जो पल रहा है, उसके बारे में बताता है, “वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” (मत्ती 1:21), अर्थात, मरियम से एक पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा, और यूसुफ को उसका नाम यीशु रखना होगा, क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उनके पापों से उद्धार करेगा। इस पद के पहले अर्ध-भाग - पुत्र जनने और उसका नाम यीशु रखे जाने को हम कल इससे संबंधित दूसरे पद के साथ देखेंगे। आज हम इस पद के दूसरे अर्ध-भाग “क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” पर विचार करेंगे।

यह पद प्रभु यीशु मसीह के जन्म लेने के उद्देश्य को व्यक्त कर रहा है - लोगों को उनके पापों से उद्धार प्रदान करना। मूल यूनानी भाषा के जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “उद्धार” किया गया है, उसका शब्दार्थ होता है ‘छुड़ा लेना या सुरक्षित कर लेना’। अर्थात, मरियम से जन्म लेना वह पुत्र जिसका नाम यीशु रखा जाएगा, वह लोगों को उनके पापों से छुड़ा लेगा या सुरक्षित कर देगा। यह अपने आप में एक अति-विलक्षण और अभूत-पूर्व आश्वासन था; क्योंकि यह मनुष्यों का व्यावहारिक अनुभव था कि सभी धर्म-कर्म करने, सारे पर्व मानने-मनाने, विधि-विधानों को पूरा करने के बाद भी उनके जीवनों से पाप की उपस्थिति समाप्त नहीं होती थी; उन्हें फिर भी पाप के साथ संघर्ष करना पड़ता था, अपने पापों के दुष्परिणामों को झेलना होता था। अब प्रभु यीशु मसीह में संसार के लोगों को परमेश्वर की ओर से यह प्रावधान उपलब्ध करवाया जा रहा था, जो उन्हें उनके पापों की समस्या से छुड़ा कर सुरक्षित करेगा। 

किन्तु साथ ही इस पद में परमेश्वर की ओर से यह भी बताया गया था कि किन लोगों को उनके पापों से छुड़ाया और सुरक्षित किया जाएगा; जैसा यूसुफ से, उसे मिले दर्शन में, कहा गया और बाइबल में लिखा गया है, प्रभु यीशु “अपने लोगों को” उनके पापों से छुड़ाएगा और सुरक्षित करेगा। अर्थात जिसे पाप से छुटकारा और सुरक्षा चाहिए, उसे प्रभु यीशु का जन बनना होगा; और जो प्रभु यीशु का जन बन जाएगा, उसे प्रभु यीशु ही उसके पापों से छुड़ाएगा और सुरक्षित करेगा। उपरोक्त दूसरे पद यूहन्ना 1:12-13 से हम देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु का जन बनना उसे ग्रहण करने, उसके नाम पर विश्वास करने के द्वारा होता है, जिसकी व्याख्या हम कल देखेंगे। इस पद, मत्ती 1:21 में, यह भी निहित है कि लोगों के पापों से छुड़ाया जाना प्रभु यीशु ही उन्हें करके देगा; उन लोगों का इसमें कोई योगदान नहीं होगा, वे केवल प्रभु के किए हुए को स्वीकार करने और उसे अपने जीवन में कार्यान्वित करने वाले होंगे। उद्धार केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह के द्वारा है; मनुष्य केवल उसे एक भेंट, एक उपहार के समान स्वीकार ही कर सकता है।

अर्थात, पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार या नया जन्म पाने के लिए व्यक्ति को सर्व-प्रथम स्वेच्छा तथा सत्य-निष्ठा से प्रभु यीशु का जन बनना अनिवार्य है। यह “बनना” किसी धर्म विशेष की बातों के निर्वाह अथवा किसी परिवार विशेष में जन्म ले लेने से स्वतः हो जाने वाली प्रक्रिया नहीं है। उपरोक्त यूहन्ना 1:12 के अनुसार, यह केवल व्यक्तिगत रीति से प्रभु यीशु मसीह को ग्रहण करने, और उसके नाम पर विश्वास करने के द्वारा ही संभव है।

The Meaning of Faith in Christ

In considering the various aspects of Christian Faith and Discipleship, in the previous articles, we have learnt that Christian Faith is not a religion, nor is it a matter of converting from one religion to another. Rather, as it was with the initial Christian Believers, it is voluntarily and willingly accepting being a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ; doing this did not change their religion, but they had a change of heart, from the world and sin towards the Lord God. In the previous article we had seen the history of the initial Christian Believers from the Book of Acts in the Bible, that these initial Believers were known as the “people of the way”, i.e., people who were separate from the world and the ways of the world, having a lifestyle that was quite distinct and different from that of the world (Acts 9:2). After some time, the people of the world started calling the disciples of Christ Christians (Acts 11:26). The conclusion is that the disciples of Christ are those, who live separate from the world; live according to the way shown by the Lord Jesus, only they actually are Christians. Implied in the fundamental facts related to the Christian Faith is another fundamental fact, that it is not possible for anyone to actually become a Christian Believer before attaining the age of being able to think over, evaluate, and take considered decisions. Therefore, it is not possible to be a Christian by birth, i.e., by virtue of being born in a particular family or by fulfilling the requirements of a particular religion; it can only be by voluntarily, willingly, sincerely submitting oneself to the Lord Jesus, to be His disciple, accepting Him as Lord and Savior. Biblically speaking, there is no other way to do it. 

Many people, particularly those who follow the Christian Religion, claim to believe in the Lord Jesus; therefore, because of this notion or claim that they have, can they be called Christian Believers? Biblically speaking, what does it mean to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Can any person, who according to his own understanding and beliefs, claims to believe in the Lord Jesus, be considered a saved or Born-Again Christian Believer? To understand this, we need to study two verses from the Bible. The first verse will show us how one receives salvation or new birth by believing in the Lord Jesus; and the second verse will help us to understand what it means to believe in the Lord Jesus, Biblically. What has been expressed in these verses is the basis of the Biblical teachings about salvation, Christian life, and preaching of the gospel. These verses are:

1. “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

2. “But as many, as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13).

Today, we will examine some aspects of the first of these two verses, and in the next article will take up the second one. For today’s consideration, let us look at the first verse along with its preceding verse, to see it in its context, is “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."” (Matthew 1:20-21). The earthly father of the Lord Jesus, Joseph was in a quandary about bringing his wife Mary home since she had been found to be pregnant before their marriage. Joseph was thinking about leaving Mary, but God’s Angel assured him that Mary had not done anything wrong, she was still a virgin, and Joseph could safely bring her home without doubting her. Then the Angel tells Joseph about the baby growing in her womb, “...she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21); i.e., Mary will give birth to a son and Joseph has to name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. We will look at the first half of this verse, about giving birth to a son and naming him Jesus in the next article along with the related second verse. Today we will consider the second half of this verse “... for He will save His people from their sins.”

This verse is stating the purpose of the Lord Jesus Christ’s birth - to save ‘His people’ from their sins. The word translated “save”, in the original Greek language, its literal meaning is “to release or to make safe.” That is to say that the son born to Mary, who was to be named Jesus, He will release or make safe those who become His people, from their sin. This in itself was an astounding and unprecedented assurance; since it was the practical experience of mankind that despite fulfilling all the religious rituals and deeds, celebrating all the feasts and festivals, and carrying out all the prescribed ceremonies, people’s lives were never made free from sin; they still had to struggle against sin and had to suffer the deleterious effects of sins in their lives. But now, through the Lord Jesus Christ, God was providing the remedy to deliver them from sin and make them safe.

But along with this provision from God, this verse also states who will be the recipients of being delivered and made safe; as the Angel said to Joseph, and as it is written in the Bible, the Lord Jesus will deliver and make safe those who are “His people.” Therefore, those who want to be delivered from sin and made safe will first have to become “His people” i.e., a follower of Christ Jesus; and whosoever will become a disciple or follower of the Lord Jesus, he will be delivered and made safe, not by any of his own efforts, but by the Lord. We see from the afore-mentioned second verse, John 1:12-13 that this becoming “His people” i.e., a disciple or follower of the Lord is only by coming to faith in Him, by believing in His name; and we will see a detailed consideration of this in the next article. In this verse, Matthew 1:21, another thing that is implied is that it is the Lord who will accomplish and make available to “His people” this deliverance from sins and be made safe and secure. The “His people” themselves will have no role or contribution in their deliverance; they will only have to accept what the Lord has done and apply it in their life. Salvation is only through the Lord Jesus Christ; man can only receive it as a gift.

The conclusion is that to attain salvation, i.e., receive the forgiveness of sins and be saved, the first and foremost requirement is that the person should voluntarily, willingly, and sincerely become “His people” i.e., a disciple or follower of the Lord Jesus. This becoming “His people” i.e., a disciple of the Lord Jesus is not by fulfilling the requirements of any particular religion, nor is it automatically bestowed because of being born in a particular family. As it says in John 1:12-13, this is only through accepting the Lord Jesus and believing in His name. If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पिछले तीन लेखों में हमने उद्धार से संबंधित पहले प्रश्न – “उद्धार किससे और क्यों” को बाइबल की प्रथम पुस्तक, उत्पत्ति के 3 अध्याय में दिए गए विवरण के अनुसार विस्तार से देखा है; और पिछले लेख में हम इस प्रश्न के निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचे थे। निष्कर्ष में हमें दोनों बातों, “उद्धार किससे” तथा “उद्धार क्यों” को देखा था, जो संक्षेप में इस प्रकार है:

* किस से - उद्धार या बचाव पाप के दुष्प्रभावों से होना है, जिन के कारण मनुष्यों में आत्मिक एवं शारीरिक मृत्यु, डर, अहं, दोष, लज्जा, परमेश्वर से दूरी, अपनी गलतियों के लिए बहाने बनाना तथा दूसरों पर दोषारोपण करने, परमेश्वर की कृपा को नजरंदाज करने जैसी प्रवृत्ति और भावनाएं आ गई हैं।

* क्यों - क्योंकि हमारा सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर हमारे पापों में पड़े हुए होने की दशा में भी, हम सभी मनुष्यों से अभी भी प्रेम करता है, हमारे साथ संगति रखना चाहता है; वह चाहता है कि हम उस से मेल-मिलाप कर लें, और उसके पुत्र-पुत्री होने के दर्जे को स्वीकार कर लें (यूहन्ना 1:2-13)। वह हमें विनाश में नहीं आशीष में देखना चाहता है और अपने साथ स्वर्ग में स्थान देना चाहता है। परमेश्वर की इस मनसा को स्वीकार करना अथवा नहीं करना, प्रत्येक मनुष्य का अपना निर्णय है।

उद्धार - कैसे? 

     आज से हम दूसरे प्रश्न, “व्यक्ति इस उद्धार को कैसे प्राप्त कर सकता है?” पर विचार आरंभ करेंगे, और हमारे विचार का आधार बाइबल की प्रथम पुस्तक, उत्पत्ति के 3 अध्याय में दिया गया पहले पाप का विवरण ही रहेगा।

 

    हम देख चुके हैं कि उद्धार का अर्थ है, उस प्रथम पाप द्वारा कार्यान्वित हुई विनाशक प्रक्रिया और उसके परिणामों को उलट कर वापस सृष्टि के समय की हमारी प्रथम स्थिति में बहाल किए जाने, तथा परिणामस्वरूप परमेश्वर के साथ टूटी हुई इस संगति में पुनः पहले के समान स्थापित हो जाना, तथा मृत्यु अर्थात परमेश्वर से उस अनन्त दूरी से बच जाना।

     मनुष्य उद्धार कैसे प्राप्त करे के संदर्भ में कुछ अति-महत्वपूर्ण, समझने के लिए अनिवार्य, एवं समाधान के लिए निर्णायक बातों पर ध्यान कीजिए: 

* मनुष्य के उस प्रथम पाप के कारण किसी धर्म के निर्वाह का उल्लंघन नहीं हुआ था – क्योंकि जब वह प्रथम पाप हुआ, तब वहाँ कोई धर्म तो था ही नहीं! और क्योंकि परमेश्वर का न तो कोई धर्म है, और न ही परमेश्वर ने कभी कोई भी धर्म बनाया अथवा बनवाया। संसार के सभी धर्म, ईसाई धर्म सहित, पाप में गिरे हुए मनुष्य के मन और विचारों की उपज हैं और पाप के कारण मनुष्यों में आई हुई परमेश्वर से विमुख कर देने वाली प्रवृत्ति एवं मानसिकता, मनुष्य को परमेश्वर की ओर फेर देना वाला उपाय नहीं प्रदान कर सकती है “अशुद्ध वस्तु से शुद्ध वस्तु को कौन निकाल सकता है? कोई नहीं” (अय्यूब 14:4)। 

* इसीलिए, अपने सभी दावों और आश्वासनों के बावजूद, आज तक कभी भी कोई भी धर्म किसी भी मनुष्य को निष्पाप, पवित्र, और परमेश्वर के समक्ष खड़ा होने योग्य नहीं बना सका है “हम तो सब के सब अशुद्ध मनुष्य के से हैं, और हमारे धर्म के काम सब के सब मैले चिथड़ों के समान हैं। हम सब के सब पत्ते के समान मुर्झा जाते हैं, और हमारे अधर्म के कामों ने हमें वायु के समान उड़ा दिया है” (यशायाह 64:6)। 

* मनुष्य को पाप से उभारने का एक मात्र उपाय पापों से पश्चाताप करना, उनके लिए प्रभु यीशु मसीह से क्षमा माँगना, और स्वेच्छा तथा सम्पूर्ण समर्पण के साथ प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य बनना, ईसाई या किसी धर्म में नहीं, बल्कि मसीही विश्वास में आना है, “इसलिये परमेश्वर अज्ञानता के समयों में आनाकानी कर के, अब हर जगह सब मनुष्यों को मन फिराने की आज्ञा देता है” (प्रेरितों 17:30)। “यदि तू अपने मुंह से यीशु को प्रभु जानकर अंगीकार करे और अपने मन से विश्वास करे, कि परमेश्वर ने उसे मरे हुओं में से जिलाया, तो तू निश्चय उद्धार पाएगा। क्योंकि धामिर्कता के लिये मन से विश्वास किया जाता है, और उद्धार के लिये मुंह से अंगीकार किया जाता है” (रोमियों 10:9-10)।

* क्योंकि पाप धर्म के उल्लंघन से नहीं है, इसलिए इसके निवारण में भी किसी भी धर्म का (वह चाहे कोई भी धर्म, चाहे ईसाई धर्म ही क्यों न हो), कोई भी स्थान या महत्व नहीं है “क्योंकि विश्वास के द्वारा अनुग्रह ही से तुम्हारा उद्धार हुआ है, और यह तुम्हारी ओर से नहीं, वरन परमेश्वर का दान है। और न कर्मों के कारण, ऐसा न हो कि कोई घमण्ड करे” (इफिसियों 2:8-9)। 

* समस्या व्यक्तिगत रीति से परमेश्वर और मनुष्य के मध्य विश्वास में विच्छेद से उत्पन्न हुई; आदम और हव्वा ने व्यक्तिगत रीति से, अपनी बुद्धि और समझ के अनुसार, अनाज्ञाकारिता, अर्थात, पाप करने का निर्णय लिया। मनुष्य ने शैतान की बातों में आकर परमेश्वर की कही बातों, उसके द्वारा मनुष्य के लिए दिए प्रावधानों, तथा मनुष्य के प्रति परमेश्वर की इच्छा तथा योजना के सर्वोत्तम और भले होने पर अविश्वास किया; और इसी अविश्वास के अन्तर्गत मनुष्य ने अपनी समझ-बूझ, अपने आँकलन को परमेश्वर की समझ-बूझ और उसके आँकलन से बेहतर समझा, जिसके कारण फिर उन्होंने परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता भी की। 

* इसीलिए प्रत्येक मनुष्य के पाप का समाधान भी परमेश्वर और प्रत्येक मनुष्य के मध्य व्यक्तिगत रीति से विश्वास को पुनः स्थापित करने के द्वारा ही है। 

* इसके लिए अनिवार्य है कि प्रत्येक मनुष्य स्वेच्छा से परमेश्वर की हर बात को, हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर की समझ-बूझ और हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर के आँकलन एवं समाधान को, अपनी बात, अपनी समझ-बूझ और अपने आँकलन से उत्तम तथा सर्वोपरि स्वीकार करे, और अपने आप को, अपनी हर सोच-समझ, दृष्टिकोण, प्रवृत्ति, सूझ-बूझ और व्यवहार को पूर्णतः परमेश्वर के हाथों में समर्पित कर दे। 

* अपनी नहीं वरन केवल और केवल परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार ही करे - उस आज्ञाकारिता की दशा में आ जाए, जिसमें उसकी रचना की गई थी, और जिसके निर्वाह के लिए उसे कहा गया था।

    

    हम इस प्रश्न पर विचार को ज़ारी रखेंगे; किन्तु अभी के लिए आपके सामने यह प्रश्न है - आप अपने आप को परमेश्वर के समक्ष ग्रहण योग्य किस प्रकार बना रहे हैं - अपने धर्म-कर्म के द्वारा, अथवा प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास के द्वारा? परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिया गया उद्धार का मार्ग किसी धर्म का पालन करना नहीं वरन केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह को उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार का लेना ही है “यीशु ने उस से कहा, मार्ग और सच्चाई और जीवन मैं ही हूं; बिना मेरे द्वारा कोई पिता के पास नहीं पहुंच सकता” (यूहन्ना 14:6)। यदि आपने अभी तक उसे अपना व्यक्तिगत उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अभी यह करने का अवसर आपके पास है। आपकी स्वेच्छा, सच्चे मन और अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप के साथ की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु, मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने मन-ध्यान-विचार-व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करके पाप किया है। मैं धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, मेरे स्थान पर उनके मृत्यु-दण्ड को कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा सह लिया। आप मेरे स्थान पर मारे गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए मृतकों में से जी भी उठे। कृपया मुझ पर दया करें और मेरे पाप क्षमा करें। मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, और अपनी आज्ञाकारिता में अपने साथ बना कर रखें” आपको पाप के विनाश से निकालकर परमेश्वर के साथ संगति और उसकी आशीषों में लाकर खड़ा कर देगी। क्या आप यह प्रार्थना अभी समय रहते करेंगे - निर्णय आपका है?

The Solution For Sin - Salvation - 4

In the last three articles, we've looked at our first question related to considering salvation, “from whom and why"; based on the description given in the first book of the Bible, Genesis chapter 3; And in the previous article we had seen the conclusion of this question. In the conclusion, we had looked at both of these points, “salvation from whom or what” and “salvation - why”. These conclusions are summarized as follows:

* From whom - Salvation or being saved is from the ill effects of sin, which cause spiritual and physical death in humans, and create fear, ego, guilt, shame, distance from God, tendency of making excuses for one's mistakes and blaming others, and of ignoring God's grace. And we see all of these to be rampant in all of the people of the world, since everyone is under the effect and control of sin. 

* Why - because our Creator God still loves all of us human beings, wants to be in fellowship with us, despite our being in sin. He wants to see us reconciled to Him, and to voluntarily accept the status of becoming His sons and daughters (John 1:2-13). He does not want to see us in destruction, but in blessings and wants to give us a place in heaven with Him. To accept or not to accept this intention and invitation of God is the personal decision of each person.

Salvation - How?

From today we will look into the second question, “How can one attain this salvation?” And our discussion will continue to be based on the description of the first sin as is given in chapter 3 of the first book of the Bible, Genesis.

We've seen that salvation, or to be saved, means to obtain a reversal of the destructive process and consequences brought about by that first sin, to be restored back to our original state of creation, and consequently to be restored back into the fellowship with God which was broken because of sin. And thereby we get to escape from coming into that eternal separation from the Lord God, i.e., from eternal death.

Consider a few concepts that are very important to know, essential to grasp, and crucial to understand how man receives salvation:

* Because of that first sin of man nothing related to the practice of any religion was violated – because when that first sin happened, then there was no religion at all! Because God has no religion, and God never created or made any religion, therefore religion has nothing whatsoever to do with this situation and its consequences. All religions of the world, including Christianity, are the product of the mind and thoughts of a fallen man, and therefore, no religion can reverse the tendency and mentality brought by sin into mankind, to turn them away from God. The product of a sinful mind and heart cannot ever provide a way to return man back to the state of holiness and purity from God. “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!" (Job 14:4).

* That is why, in spite of all the claims and assurances, no religion has ever been able to make any man sinless, holy, and capable to stand before God. “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away” (Isaiah 64:6).

* The only way to lift man out from sin is through his acceptance and repentance of sins, his asking forgiveness for them from the Lord Jesus Christ, and his becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with complete submission. It is not by coming into Christianity or any religion, but into the Christian faith. “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent" (Acts 17:30). “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10) - nothing related to any religion; only repentance, confession and faith in Christ Jesus.

* Since sin did not result from the violation of any religion, so no religion (whatever religion it may be, even it be Christianity) has any place or importance in its solution and resolution "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

* The problem arose because of a personal falling away from trust of man in God and His Word, His instructions. Adam and Eve on their own and individually, according to their own wisdom and understanding, took the decision to disobey God, i.e., to sin. Man, being enticed by the words of Satan, disbelieved in what God had said, he disbelieved in the provisions God had made for man, and disbelieved in trusting that God’s desires and plans are the best for man. And under this unbelief, man considered his own understanding, his own assessment to be better than God's understanding and God’s assessment, due to which he decided to disobey God.

* That is why the solution to each man's sin is also by re-establishing this trust between God and each man in a personal way.

* For this it is necessary for every man to willingly accept everything of God, to accept that the understanding of God for everything and the assessment and solution of God for everything, is over and above man’s own thoughts, man’s own understanding and assessment. That man should voluntarily and completely surrender himself into the hands of God; in each and every of his thoughts, wisdom, attitude, point of view, understanding and behavior.

* It is also necessary that man instead of doing according to his own understanding, will and desires, should do only and only according to what God says - that he come back into the state of obedience in which he was created, and to which he was called.

    We will continue to consider this question in the subsequent articles; But the question before you for now is - how are you making yourself acceptable to God - through your own contrived works of righteousness, or by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? The only way to salvation given in God's Word the Bible is not following any religion but accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as savior “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). If you haven't yet accepted Him as your personal Savior, now is your chance to do so. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart and with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and in a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible or not, is your personal decision.
