पिछले लेख में हमने देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का क्या अर्थ है। हमने देखा कि सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का तात्पर्य पूर्णतः प्रभु यीशु मसीह और उसके द्वारा किये गये कार्य से सम्बन्धित है, विशेषकर उसके क्रूस पर मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने और मृतकों में से जी उठने के साथ। और इसमें कभी भी कहीं पर भी पहले किसी शर्त को पूरा करने, किसी धर्म का, किसी धार्मिक प्रक्रिया अथवा अनुष्ठानों की पूर्ति का, किसी प्रकार के कार्यों का, या किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा प्रभु और पश्चातापी व्यक्ति के मध्य किसी प्रकार की मध्यस्थता करने का कोई स्थान नहीं है। हर बात पश्चाताप करने वाले मनुष्य के स्वेच्छा से किये गए निर्णय पर निर्भर है। पश्चातापी मनुष्य का पवित्र आत्मा तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा परिवर्तित होना, उस व्यक्ति के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार कर लेने के बाद से आरम्भ हो जाता है। आज हम देखेंगे कि सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना और प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करना, दोनों एक ही बात हैं।

“यीशु” नाम का अर्थ और व्यक्ति के जीवन में सुसमाचार के अर्थ और उसके कार्यकारी होने का अर्थ, एक ही बात हैं। नाम “यीशु मसीह” में ‘यीशु’ प्रभु का नाम है, और ‘मसीह’ उसकी उपाधि या उसे सौंपा गया कार्य है, अर्थात, परमेश्वर ने जो उसे करने के लिये सौंपा था। शब्द ‘मसीह’ का अर्थ होता है ‘मस्सा या अभिषेक’ किया हुआ, अर्थात वह जो किसी उद्देश्य अथवा कार्य के लिए तैयार करके नियुक्त किया गया है। नाम ‘यीशु’ और लोगों का भी था (उदाहरण के लिये कुलुस्सियों 4:11 देखिए); लेकिन नाम ‘यीशु’ के साथ जोड़ी गई उपाधि ‘मसीह’ हमें बताती है कि “यह वह यीशु है जिसे परमेश्वर ने मसीहा या छुटकारा देने वाला नियुक्त किया है।” हमें शब्द ‘यीशु’ का अर्थ भी समझना आवश्यक है; मत्ती 1:21 में स्वर्गदूत ने यूसुफ से कहा, “वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” – यही ‘यीशु’ शब्द का अर्थ है – वह जो अपने लोगों को उनके पापों से बचाता है। शब्द ‘यीशु’ इब्रानी भाषा की एक संयुक्त संज्ञा ‘यहोशुआ’ से आया है, और इसी शब्द से यहोशू और होशे शब्द भी आए हैं। यहोशुआ इब्रानी भाषा के दो शब्दों ‘यहोवा’ और ‘शुआ’ से मिलकर बना है। यहाँ पर ‘यहोवा’ तो परमेश्वर का नाम है, और ‘शुआ’ का अर्थ है ‘मुक्त करने वाला’ या ‘बचाने वाला’ और इसलिए यहोशुआ और उससे बने सभी शब्दों का अर्थ है “यहोवा, अर्थात परमेश्वर मुक्त करता है; या परमेश्वर बचाता है।” यीशु नाम का भी यही अर्थ है – परमेश्वर मुक्त करता है या परमेश्वर बचाता है; और यीशु मसीह का अर्थ है वह जिसे परमेश्वर ने मुक्त करने या बचाने के लिए निर्धारित किया है। अर्थात, न तो कोई धर्म, न किसी धार्मिक अनुष्ठान का निर्वाह, न किसी प्रकार के कोई कार्य; बल्कि केवल परमेश्वर और उसके अतिरिक्त अन्य कोई नहीं, कुछ नहीं जो पश्चाताप करने वाले पापी को प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करने के द्वारा, अपनी दया और अनुग्रह में होकर बचाता है।

स्वर्गदूत ने मत्ती 1:21 में जो यूसुफ से कहा, उस बात पर ध्यान कीजिए – यीशु उन्हें उनके पापों से बचाएगा जो उसके लोग है; अर्थात जैसे ही लोग अपने पापों की दशा में ही ‘उसके लोग’ बनते हैं, वह उन्हें उनके पापों से बचा लेता है। बाइबल का यह अर्थ और अभिप्राय ईसाई या मसीही धर्म के अन्तर्गत गढ़ी गई और सिखाई जाने वाली उस धारणा से बिलकुल विपरीत है कि जो लोग कुछ निर्धारित धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह के द्वारा अपने पापों से बच जाते हैं, प्रभु उन्हें अपने लोग बनाता है। लेकिन बाइबल की शिक्षा है कि व्यक्ति को अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने और यीशु को अपना प्रभु स्वीकार करने, उसे जीवन समर्पित करने, अर्थात नया-जन्म पाने के द्वारा पहले ‘उसके लोग’ बनना है; और जब वे ऐसा करेंगे तो यीशु उन्हें उनके पापों से बचा लेगा। जबकि ईसाई या मसीही धर्म की सामान्य किन्तु गलत शिक्षा है कि व्यक्ति को अपने आप से भला बनना है, भले कामों तथा धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह के द्वारा उद्धार पाना है, और उसके बाद ही यीशु उसे ‘अपने लोग’ स्वीकार करेगा। यह बात न केवल स्वर्गदूत द्वारा परमेश्वर की ओर से कही गई बात के विरुद्ध है, बल्कि बाइबल की मौलिक शिक्षा के, कि उद्धार किसी प्रकार के कामों से नहीं, केवल परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह ही के द्वारा है (इफिसियों 2:1-9; तीतुस 3:5) के भी विरुद्ध है। बाइबल में दिया गया ‘यीशु’ शब्द का अर्थ, बाइबल में दिया गया ‘सुसमाचार’ शब्द का अर्थ, और ‘सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने’ का अर्थ एक ही हैं, उनमें किसी प्रकार की कोई भिन्नता नहीं है। यीशु में विश्वास करना, सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना है; और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना, यीशु में विश्वास करना है।

हम आने वाले लेखों में सुसमाचार के अर्थ और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने के अर्थ तथा इन से सम्बन्धित बातों को और आगे देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चातप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

In the previous article we have seen the Biblical meaning of believing in the gospel. We saw that believing in the gospel has everything to do with the Lord Jesus Christ and His work, especially His death on the cross, His burial and His resurrection from the dead. There is no role or mention of anything related to any preconditions, any religion, fulfilling any religious observance, any kind of works, or any mediation or role of any person between the Lord and the repentant man. Everything is dependent upon the voluntary decision of the penitent person. The transformation of the saved man through the work of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word begins once the person accepts the Lord Jesus as his savior. Today we will see how believing in the gospel and believing in the Lord Jesus are the same.

This meaning and working of the gospel in a person’s life is the same as what the name “Jesus” means. In the name “Jesus Christ” ‘Jesus’ is the Lord’s name, and ‘Christ’ is His office or designation, i.e., the work that He was ordained for, by God. The word ‘Christ’ means ‘the anointed one,’ or one who has been ordained for a mission or purpose. Others too had the name ‘Jesus’ (e.g., Colossians 4:11); but the ‘designation’ Christ along with the name Jesus tells us who He is – “that Jesus who was ordained by God to be the Messiah, the deliverer.” We also need to understand the meaning of the word ‘Jesus;’ in Matthew 1:21, the angel says to Joseph, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” – that is what the name ‘Jesus’ means – He who saves His people from their sins. The English word Jesus has come from a compound Hebrew word Jehoshua from which other words like Joshua, and Hosea have also been derived. Jehoshua is made up of two Hebrew words – JEHOVAH, and SHUA; JEHOVAH, of course, is the name of God, the word SHUA means ‘to set free’ or ‘to save.’ Therefore, the word Jehoshua, and the other words derived from it mean “Jehovah, i.e., God sets free; or God saves.” That is what the name ‘Jesus’ means – God sets free, or saves; So, Jesus Christ means, the one ordained by God to set free or save. In other words, it is not any religion, not any religious observances, not any kind of works, but God and God alone who saves the repentant sinner coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, in His grace and mercy.

Note from what the angel said to Joseph in Matthew 1:21 – Jesus will save those who are His people, from their sins, i.e., as people become ‘His people’ while in their sins, He will save them from their sins. This Biblical meaning and implication is quite unlike the common misconception fostered and maintained under the Christian religion that those, who through fulfilling the prescribed religious observances, are saved from their sins, they will become His people. But the Biblical teaching is that a person has to first become one of ‘His People’ through repenting of sins, accepting Jesus as their Lord and submitting to Him, i.e., being Born-Again; and when they do so, Jesus will save them from their sins. Whereas the common misconception and wrong teaching of the Christian religion is that a person has to become good enough, get saved through fulfilling some religious observances and good works, and then Jesus will take them as ‘His people.’ This not only goes against what the angel from God said to Joseph, but also contradicts the basic Biblical teaching of salvation being only by the grace of God, and not by works of any kind (Ephesians 2:1-9; Titus 3:5). As given in the Bible, the actual meaning of “Jesus,” of ‘gospel,’ and the meaning of ‘believing in the gospel’ are one and the same, there is no difference of any kind. To believe in the gospel is to believe in the Lord Jesus, and vice-versa.

We will continue to look into other aspects related to the meaning of the gospel and believing in the gospel, and the implications in the coming articles.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 से देखा था कि सुसमाचार का मर्म या सार क्या है; और साथ ही इन पदों में निहित तथा लिखित, सुसमाचार के अर्थ, प्रचार, और उपयोग से सम्बन्धित कुछ बातों को भी देखा था। हमने देखा था कि सुसमाचार नए नियम में जोड़ी गई कोई नई बात नहीं है, बल्कि यह उस समय के उपलब्ध ‘पवित्रशास्त्र’ अर्थात जिसे हम पुराना नियम कहते हैं, उसी में से है। साथ ही, सुसमाचार का किसी भी धर्म, धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह, धर्म-परिवर्तन, भले कामों तथा कर्म-काण्डों, आदि बातों से कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। सुसमाचार पूर्णतः प्रभु यीशु, क्रूस पर उसके बलिदान, उसके मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने, और पुनरुत्थान से सम्बन्धित है। इस सुसमाचार में न तो कुछ जोड़ा जा सकता है और न ही इसमें से कुछ घटाया जा सकता है। आज हम देखेंगे कि सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का क्या अर्थ है, आगे चलकर हम कुछ और सम्बन्धित बातों को देखेंगे, तथा यह भी कि शैतान कैसे बहुधा भक्ति और धार्मिकता के आवरण में सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ता और निष्क्रिय करता है।

सीधे, साफ़ शब्दों में, सुसमाचार पर विश्वास करने का अर्थ है फिलिप्पियों 2:5-11 में लिखे हुए पर विश्वास करना – कि ‘मनुष्य’ (अर्थात, कोई भी व्यक्ति, और यहाँ पर ‘मनुष्य’ के स्थान पर किसी का भी नाम लिखा जा सकता है) को उसके पापों से छुड़ाने और परमेश्वर के साथ उसका मेल-मिलाप करवाने के लिए प्रभु यीशु ने अपने आप को दीन किया, अपनी स्वर्गीय महिमा से स्वयं को शून्य या रिक्त कर लिया, एक दास का स्वरूप धारण करके निम्न कोटि के मनुष्य की समानता में पृथ्वी पर आ गया, और परमेश्वर की पूर्ण आज्ञाकारिता में जीवन जिया। यद्यपि वह निष्पाप और निष्कलंक था (इब्रानियों 4:15; 1 पतरस 1:19), फिर भी उसने ‘मनुष्य’ के सारे पापों को अपने ऊपर ले लिया और उसके स्थान पर उन पापों के दण्ड, मृत्यु (रोमियों 6:23) को सह लिया; उसने एक अपराधी के समान क्रूस की क्रूर मृत्यु को सहा, और उन पापों की पूरी कीमत चुका दी। वह मारा गया, गाड़ा गया, और तीसरे दिन पाप तथा मृत्यु पर जयवंत होकर मृतकों में से जी उठा (इब्रानियों 2:14), और अब अनन्तकाल के लिए जीवित है, कि जो उस पर विश्वास करते हैं, उनका उद्धारकर्ता हो। अब, उसमें लाए गए विश्वास के द्वारा पापों से क्षमा प्राप्त करने के कारण, ‘मनुष्य’ परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी हो जाता है और परमेश्वर के साथ उसका मेल-मिलाप हो जाता है (रोमियों 5:1, 10-11); और उसका यह उद्धार अनन्तकालीन है (इब्रानियों 5:9)।

प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास के द्वारा परमेश्वर से मेल-मिलाप होने के साथ ही, ‘मनुष्य’ परमेश्वर की सन्तान (यूहन्ना 1:12-13), परमेश्वर के परिवार का एक अंग भी बन जाता है, और ‘मनुष्य’ के उद्धार पाते ही, उसी पल से पवित्र आत्मा उसमें आकर निवास करने लगता है (इफिसियों 1:13-14)। पवित्र आत्मा उस ‘मनुष्य’ को अंश-अंश कर के प्रभु की समानता में परिवर्तित करने लगता है (2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18); और ‘मनुष्य’ नया-जन्म पाकर, नए जन्मे हुए शिशु के समान जब परमेश्वर के वचन के शुद्ध दूध को भोजन के समान लेने लग जाता है, तो वह आत्मिक रीति से बढ़ता और परिपक्व भी होता चला जाता है (1 पतरस 2:1-3)। ध्यान कीजिए कि ‘मनुष्य’ के जीवन में सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित हर बात में, उसे ग्रहण करने में, उसके परिणामों में, किसी भी प्रकार से पहले पूरी करने के लिए कोई शर्त नहीं है; और न ही किसी धर्म की कोई भूमिका, धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह की कोई आवश्यकता, किसी प्रकार के कर्मों को करने की किसी अनिवार्यता का कोई उल्लेख है; और न ही किसी भी अन्य व्यक्ति के किसी भी प्रकार से प्रभु और उस पश्चातापी ‘मनुष्य’ के मध्य कोई कार्य करने की कोई आवश्यकता बताई गई है। हर बात पश्चातापी ‘मनुष्य’ और प्रभु के मध्य सीधे संपर्क के द्वारा है, ‘मनुष्य’ द्वारा स्वेच्छा से लिए गए निर्णय पर आधारित है। ‘मनुष्य’ का आत्मिक परिवर्तन और बढ़ोतरी उसके नया जन्म पा लेने के बाद आरम्भ होती है; और उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन को भोजन के समान लेते रहने तथा पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा ‘मनुष्य’ के जीवन में किये जाने वाले कार्य के द्वारा होती है।

अगले लेख में हम बाइबल से देखेंगे कि कैसे सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना और प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करना एक ही बात हैं।

In the previous article we have seen from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the gist of the gospel; and we also noted some matters stated and implied in these verses that relate to the meaning, preaching, and utilization of the gospel. We have seen that the gospel is not a new addition, in the New Testament, but is from the then available ‘Scriptures’ i.e., what we know as the Old Testament today. Also, the gospel has nothing to do with any religion, fulfilling religious observances, religious conversion, good and religious works, etc. The gospel is only about the Lord Jesus, His sacrifice on the cross, His death, burial, and resurrection. There is nothing that can be added to this gospel, and nothing that can be taken away from it. Today we shall see what believing in the gospel means, subsequently we will see some other related matters, and how Satan tries to subvert the gospel, often in the garb of piety and religiosity.

In simple, straightforward words, to believe in the gospel means to believe what has been stated in Philippians 2:5-11 –  i.e., to redeem ‘man,’ (i.e., any individual, and any person’s name can very well be used here in place of ‘man’) from his sins and to reconcile him with God, the Lord Jesus, humbled Himself, emptied Himself of all His heavenly glory, and came down to earth as a lowly man, a bondservant, and lived a life of complete obedience to God. Though He was sinless and spotless (Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 1:19), He took upon Himself all the sins of ‘man’ and suffered their penalty (Romans 6:23) in his place; He died the cruel death by crucifixion as a criminal, and thereby paid for the sins in full. He died, was buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day, victorious over sin and death (Hebrews 2:14), and now lives forever as the redeemer of all those who place their trust in Him. Now, because of receiving the forgiveness of sins through faith in Him, ‘man’ is made righteous in the eyes of God and is reconciled with God (Romans 5:1, 10-11); this salvation is eternal (Hebrews 5:9).

Being reconciled with God through faith in the Lord Jesus makes ‘man’ a child of God, a member of God’s family (John 1:12-13), and from the moment the ‘man’ is saved, the Holy Spirit comes to reside in him (Ephesians 1:13-14). The Holy Spirit starts transforming the ‘man’ into the likeness of the Lord Jesus, bit by bit (2 Corinthians 3:18); and ‘man,’ now having been Born-Again, as a new-born infant, as he feeds on the pure milk of God’s Word, he grows and matures spiritually (1 Peter 2:1-3). Take note that in everything related to the gospel, its acceptance, and its result in the life of ‘man’ there are no preconditions to be fulfilled, there is no mention or role of any religion, any religious observances, any kind of works, or any necessity of any other person to function in any manner between the Lord and the repentant ‘man;’ everything is through direct interaction between the Lord and ‘man’ and based on what the ‘man’ decides for himself. The spiritual transformation and spiritual growth of ‘man’ starts after his being Born-Again; and it happens through his feeding on God’s Word, and by the work of the Holy Spirit in ‘man’s life.

In the next article we will see from the Bible how believing in the gospel and believing in the Lord Jesus are the same.

You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख में हमने बाइबल में दिए गए, मसीही होने के अर्थ को देखा था - वह जो मसीह यीशु का शिष्य है। यह सामान्यतः माने और समझे जाने वाले अर्थ - वह जो ईसाई या मसीही परिवार में जन्मा है, या वह जो ईसाई धर्म को मानता है उसकी मान्यताओं का निर्वाह करता है, से बिलकुल भिन्न है। हमने यह भी देखा है कि मसीही विश्वास, अर्थात नया-जन्म प्राप्त करने के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु का अनुयायी बनना, और ईसाई या मसीही धर्म एक ही बात नहीं हैं। ईसाई या मसीही धर्म मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़ा गया है; प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने कभी इसे आरम्भ नहीं किया, और न ही कभी इसके बारे में कोई प्रचार किया अथवा शिक्षा दी। और यह पूर्णतः मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाए गए डिनॉमिनेशनों के नियमों, रीतियों, परम्पराओं, त्यौहारों, और रिवाज़ों का निर्वाह करने के बारे में है। 

ईसाई या मसीही धर्म में हर हाल में डिनॉमिनेशनों के नियमों, उनकी रीतियों, परम्पराओं, त्यौहारों, और रिवाज़ों का निर्वाह करना तथा सम्बन्धित मानवीय अधिकारियों की इच्छा और निर्देशों का पालन करना, बाइबल के लेख, शिक्षाओं, और प्रभु यीशु तथा उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता से बढ़कर आवश्यक और अनिवार्य होता है। डिनॉमिनेशनों और उनके अधिकारियों के बनाए हुए नियम पहले आते हैं, बाइबल की बातें उनके बाद में आती हैं, और वह भी बाइबल की बातों के उन डिनॉमिनेशनों नियमों के अनुरूप लाने के लिये उनकी व्याख्या करने, उनमें परिवर्तन लाने के बाद। हमने प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को दी गई महान आज्ञा (मत्ती 28:19-20) से भी देखा था कि प्रभु ने अपने सभी शिष्यों, अर्थात्, बाइबल के अनुसार सभी मसीहियों, को क्या-क्या ज़िम्मेदारियाँ दी हैं। बिना इस आधारभूत भिन्नता, अर्थात, साँसारिक दृष्टिकोण से ईसाई या मसीही होने की तुलना में, बाइबल के अनुसार मसीही विश्वासी होने के बारे सीखे, और इसे समझे बिना सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना क्या होता है, यह समझ पाना संभव नहीं है।

हमने कुछ पहले के लेखों में यह देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के दिनों में, यहूदियों को यह प्रत्याशा थी कि प्रतिज्ञा किये हुए मसीहा, छुड़ाने वाले मसीह के प्रकट होने का समय पूरा हो गया है, और वह किसी भी समय आ सकता है (लूका 3:15)। लेकिन उनकी आशा केवल रोमी शासन से छुड़ाए जाने, और शासन को फिर से इस्राएल को सौंप दिये जाने तक ही सीमित थी (लूका 19:11; 24:21; प्रेरितों 1:6)। इसलिए, जब प्रभु यीशु ने अपनी सेवकाई परमेश्वर का राज्य निकट होने के कारण पश्चाताप करने के आह्वान के साथ आरम्भ की (मरकुस 1:15), तो लोगों ने यही समझा कि प्रभु उन्हें रोमी अधीनता से छुड़ाने, और शासन को परमेश्वर के लोगों, इस्राएल, के हाथों में कर देने की बात कर रहा है; और उनके लिए यही अच्छा समाचार या सुसमाचार था। प्रभु यीशु के समस्त प्रचार और शिक्षाओं के बावजूद, लोगों को यह एहसास नहीं हुआ कि वह लोगों के पाप की बन्धुआई से छुड़ाए जाने की बात कर रहा था, जिससे कि वे परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश कर सकें, जो कि केवल नया-जन्म पा लेने के द्वारा ही संभव है (यूहन्ना 3:3, 5, 7)। पिन्तेकुस्त के दिन पवित्र आत्मा से भरे जाने और उसकी सामर्थ्य पाने के बाद ही प्रभु के शिष्य यह समझ सके, और फिर इसका प्रचार कर सके कि पापों से पश्चाताप करना और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना आवश्यक है (प्रेरितों 2:37-38), अर्थात सुसमाचार में विश्वास की अनिवार्यता को। तब ही, पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य और मार्गदर्शन द्वारा, सुसमाचार का वास्तविक अर्थ शिष्यों को समझ में आया।

इससे पहले कि हम सुसमाचार को तथा उस में विश्वास करने को समझें, इस विषय से थोड़ा सा हटकर, इस से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य विषय पर कुछ विचार कर लेना आवश्यक है ताकि मसीही, अर्थात प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य होने और सुसमाचार पर विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित कुछ अन्य बहुत प्रचलित किन्तु गलत धारणाओं को पहचान लें, और सही बात को समझ लें। बाइबल की शिक्षाओं में से एक शिक्षा की सामान्यतः की जाने वाली गलत व्याख्या और प्रचार के बिलकुल विपरीत, पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करना और पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा, पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाना, कोई भिन्न कार्य या पृथक अनुभव नहीं हैं; ये व्यक्ति के नया-जन्म पाने के पल ही में, एक साथ ही उसके लिए पूरे हो जाते हैं। प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, जिस पल से वह अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करता है, प्रभु यीशु को अपना व्यक्तिगत उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करता है, और अपना जीवन प्रभु को समर्पित कर के उसकी और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने का निर्णय लेता है, वह उसी पल से परमेश्वर की सँतान हो जाता है (यूहन्ना 1:12-13), अर्थात परमेश्वर के परिवार का एक अंग हो जाता है। साथ ही, उसी पल से वह पवित्र आत्मा का मंदिर भी बन जाता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:16; 6:19)। उसके विश्वास करने और उद्धार पाने के पल से ही पवित्र आत्मा उसमें आकर स्थाई रीति से निवास करने लग जाता है (प्रेरितों 19:2; गलतियों 3:2; 4:6; इफिसियों 1:13-14)। क्योंकि विश्वासी के द्वारा प्रभु का जन होने का दावा करना और यीशु को प्रभु कह पाना, केवल पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा ही संभव है (रोमियों 8:9; 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:3), इसलिए उद्धार पाने के पल से ही उसमें पवित्र आत्मा को विद्यमान होना ही है; इसके अतिरिक्त यह संभव नहीं है। 

बाइबल की बिलकुल स्पष्ट शिक्षा है कि पवित्र आत्मा किसी के द्वारा किए गए कर्मों से उसे नहीं मिलता है, बल्कि परमेश्वर द्वारा भेंट या उपहार के समान दिया जाता है (प्रेरितों 2:33, 38-39; 5:32; 2 कुरिन्थियों 1:21-22; 5:5; गलतियों 4:6), और उन्हें दिया जाता है जो विश्वास में आ जाते हैं (गलतियों 3:2, 5, 14), अर्थात प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य बन जाते हैं। प्रभु यीशु के आरम्भिक विश्वासियों को पवित्र आत्मा मिलने को ही स्वयं प्रभु ने पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा मिलना कहा था (प्रेरितों 1:5)। और बाद में, पतरस की सेवकाई के द्वारा जिन लोगों ने नया-जन्म पाया, उनके उद्धार पाते ही साथ ही पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करने को भी पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना कहा गया (प्रेरितों 11:15-17)। साथ ही, प्रेरितों 2:4 में शिष्यों के द्वारा स्वतः ही पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने को ही पवित्र आत्मा से ‘भर जाना’ कहा गया है। अर्थात्, उद्धार के साथ ही परमेश्वर से उपहार के समान पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने को ही ‘पवित्र आत्मा का बाप्तिस्मा’ और ‘पवित्र आत्मा से भर जाना’ कहा गया है। ये एक ही बात को व्यक्त करने की भिन्न अभिव्यक्तियाँ हैं न कि भिन्न घटनाएं, जैसा कि इनके बारे में गलत शिक्षाएं देने वाले दावा करते हैं। पौलुस ने इसे 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:13 में, विश्वास में आने के द्वारा देह, अर्थात कलीसिया का एक भाग होने के सन्दर्भ में, भूत काल में ‘बपतिस्मा लिया’ कहा, न कि भविष्य की किसी प्रत्याशा के समान उल्लेख किया; और न ही इसे कोई ऐसी भावी संभावना बताया जिसे प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रभु के शिष्यों को अलग से लालसा रखनी चाहिए और प्रयास करना चाहिए। इसलिए, प्रभु और उसके प्रेरितों द्वारा दी गई इसकी व्याख्या या समझ से हटकर, इसे कोई भिन्न व्याख्या अथवा समझ देना, जान-बूझकर परमेश्वर के वचन में विरोधाभास लाना है, उस पर अपनी ही समझ और व्याख्या को थोपना है, तथा औरों को गलत शिक्षाओं में बहकाना है।

अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि वर्तमान में हमारे लिए सुसमाचार का क्या अर्थ है, और फिर उसके बाद हम सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने के अर्थ के बारे में सीखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 21

 

In the previous article we had seen that the Biblical meaning of being a Christian is to be a disciple of Christ. Which is quite unlike the commonly believed and accepted meaning by the masses, i.e., being one who is born in a ‘christian’ family, or professes to be a follower of the Christian religion and fulfils its requirements. We have also seen that the Christian Faith, i.e., being Born-Again to become a follower of the Lord Jesus, and the Christian religion are not the same. Christian religion is man-made; it has not been started, preached, or taught by the Lord Jesus at any time. It is all about following and fulfilling man-made denominational rules, rites, rituals, festivals, and observances. 

In the Christian religion, the obeying of denominational rules, regulations, observances of the rituals and festivals, and the implementation of the will and directives of human leadership takes over-riding precedence over the Biblical text, teachings, and obedience to the Lord Jesus and His Word. The rules and regulations of the denominations and their officials comes first, and only after them come the things written in the Bible, and that too only after they have been suitably modified and interpreted to conform with the denominational rules and regulations. We also saw from the Lord’s Great Commission to His disciples (Matthew 28:19-20), the responsibilities He has given to all His disciples, His followers,  i.e., the Biblical Christians. Without learning about and understanding this fundamental difference between the actual Biblical meaning of being a Christian Believer, in stark contrast to the worldly meaning of being a ‘Christian,’ it is not possible to understand what it actually means to believe in the gospel.

In the earlier articles, we have seen that during the time of the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus, the Jews had an expectation that the time of the arrival of the promised Messiah, Christ the deliverer had been fulfilled, and they were living in anticipation of his arrival at any time (Luke 3:15). But their expectation was only of deliverance from Roman rule, and governance being reverted back to Israel (Luke 19:11; 24:21; Acts 1:6). So, when the Lord Jesus began His ministry with the call to repent since the Kingdom of God was at hand (Mark 1:15), the people thought that the Lord was talking about delivering them from Roman rule, and handing over the Kingdom of God’s people, Israel, back into their hands; and to them that was what the gospel, the good news was. Despite all the preaching and teaching done by the Lord Jesus, it did not strike them at all that He was talking about people being delivered from the bondage of sin and thereby become acceptable to enter the heavenly Kingdom of God, which can only be through being Born-Again (John 3:3, 5, 7). It was after the followers of the Lord Jesus had been filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, that the disciples of the Lord understood and preached the necessity of repentance and believing in the Lord Jesus for remission of sins (Acts 2:37-38), i.e., the imperativeness of believing in the gospel. That is when the true meaning of the gospel became apparent to the disciples of the Lord, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

Before we move ahead with understanding the gospel and about believing in it, a quick digression to a related topic is essential to avoid and/or clear up some other very common misconceptions related to being a Christian, i.e., a disciple of the Lord Jesus, and believing in the gospel. Quite contrary to the very prevalent and commonly taught misinterpretation of the Bible, receiving, being baptized by the Holy Spirit, and being filled by the Holy Spirit are not any separate experiences or phenomenon; they happen at the moment a person is Born-Again. Every Born-Again Christian Believer, from the moment he repents of his sins, accepts the Lord Jesus as His personal Savior, and submits his life to the Lord to live in obedience to Him and His Word, becomes a child of God (John 1:12-13), i.e., becomes a part of the family of God. At the same moment he also becomes the Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19). The Holy Spirit comes to permanently reside in him from the moment of his believing and being saved (Acts 19:2; Galatians 3:2; 4:6; Ephesians 1:13-14). Since it is only through the Holy Spirit that the Believer can claim to belong to the Lord and call Jesus as Lord (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:3), therefore, the Holy Spirit has to be in him since the moment of his salvation; it cannot be otherwise. 

The clear teaching of the Bible is that the Holy Spirit is not received through any works done by anyone, but is given by God as a gift (Acts 2:33, 38-39; 5:32; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22; 5:5; Galatians 4:6) at the moment a person is saved or is Born-Again; is given by God only to those who come into faith (Galatians 3:2, 5, 14), i.e., to the disciples of the Lord Jesus. This receiving of the Holy Spirit by the initial disciples of the Lord on the day of Pentecost was referred to by the Lord Jesus as being baptized by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5). And later, when those who were Born-Again through the ministry of Peter, when they received the Holy Spirit at the moment of their salvation, it was again called the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 11:15-17) in the Bible. Along with this, we see from Acts 2:4 that the spontaneous receiving the Holy Spirit by the disciples has been called their being ‘filled with the Holy Spirit.’ In other words, these are all different ways of expressing one and the same thing, and not different things, as is claimed by those who teach wrong doctrines about these things. Paul has referred to it in the past tense as ‘baptized’ in 1 Corinthians 12:13, in context of being made a part of the body,  i.e., the Church, by coming into faith; instead of it being mentioned as a future anticipation, or something that the disciples of the Lord should separately desire and strive for. Therefore, to interpret this in a manner different from what the Lord Jesus and His Apostles have done, is to deliberately contradict God’s Word and impose one’s own understanding and interpretation on God’s Word to mislead others into errors.

    मसीही की आत्मिक उन्नति और बढ़ोतरी के लिए, उसे परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से भली-भान्ति अवगत, तथा अपने जीवन में उसकी शिक्षाओं का पालन करने वाला होना चाहिए। पहले के लेखों में, इस श्रृंखला के आरम्भ में हमने तीन श्रेणियों की बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के बारे में देखा था, जो इस आत्मिक उन्नति एवं बढ़ोतरी के लिए आधारभूत हैं। ये तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाएँ हैं – सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित, आरंभिक बातों से सम्बन्धित, और व्यवहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित। वर्तमान में हम सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं पर विचार कर रहे हैं, और इस में हमने देखा है कि मन-फिराव या पश्चाताप से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ, तथा सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ अत्यन्त महत्वपूर्ण हैं। इस सन्दर्भ में हम पश्चाताप से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को देख चुके हैं, और सुसमाचार पर विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को सीखने और समझने के लिए हमने कहा था कि हमें यह समझना और जानना आवश्यक है कि बाइबल के अनुसार मसीही या ईसाई होने का क्या अर्थ है।

    पिछले कुछ लेखों में हमने बाइबल के नए नियम की सुसमाचारों तथा प्रेरितों के काम पुस्तकों से देखा है कि इस आम धारणा का बाइबल में कोई समर्थन, कोई आधार नहीं है कि एक “मसीही या ईसाई” परिवार में जन्म लेने और ईसाई धर्म के कुछ रीति-रिवाज़ों को पूरा कर लेने के द्वारा कोई स्वतः ही “मसीही,” परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य, और परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के योग्य बन जाता है। ये सभी बाइबल के बाहर की, और बिलकुल गलत धारणाएँ और शिक्षाएँ हैं। बाइबल की शिक्षा बहुत स्पष्ट और साफ़ है कि केवल वे ही जो अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करते हैं, अपने ऊपर प्रभु यीशु मसीह के प्रभुत्व को स्वीकार करते हैं, और व्यक्तिगत रीति से, स्वेच्छा से, और समझते-बूझते हुए प्रभु यीशु और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में जीवन जीने का निर्णय लेते हैं, केवल वे ही प्रभु यीशु के अनुयायी, उसके शिष्य हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा है कि इस प्रकार का, और प्रभु के अनुसरण करने का जीवन जीने को, वचन में “प्रभु का मार्ग” कहा गया है; और उन्हें जो ऐसा करने का निर्णय लेते हैं “मार्ग या पन्थ” के लोग कहा गया है। सामान्य समझ और आम धारणा के बिलकुल विपरीत, बाइबल में ऐसा कोई उल्लेख अथवा संकेत भी नहीं है कि प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करना, उसका शिष्य होना कोई धर्म है, और कुछ धार्मिक बातों की पूर्ति से सम्बन्धित है। बल्कि, बाइबल की शिक्षा तो यही है कि प्रभु का शिष्य होना सदा ही प्रभु और उसके वचन के प्रति समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी होने से सम्बन्धित है। आज हम देखेंगे कि शब्द “मसीही” प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों या अनुयायियों के साथ किसे प्रकार से जुड़ा।

    प्रेरितों 11:26 में, बाइबल में तथा मसीहियत के इतिहास में पहली बार, शब्द “मसीही” का उपयोग किया गया है “…और चेले सब से पहिले अन्‍ताकिया ही में मसीही कहलाए।” एक बार फिर यहाँ पर हम देखते हैं कि प्राथमिकता और अनिवार्यता शिष्य होने की है; जैसा कि इस पद में लिखा हुआ है। प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य ही मसीही कहलाए थे; न कि किसी धर्म अथवा रीति-रिवाज़ों का पालन करने वाले, और न ही वे जो किसी प्रकार की धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों, त्यौहारों, या बातों का निर्वाह करते थे। 

    इस प्रकार से यहाँ पर हमारे लिए बाइबल में मसीही होने की परिभाषा दी गई है, जिसे पवित्र आत्मा ने सभी समयों और हर स्थानों के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखवा दिया है कि मसीही कौन है – एक मसीही, मसीह का शिष्य है। और हमने ऊपर देखा है कि कैसे और किस आधार पर व्यक्ति प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य होता है। यह एक सामान्य ज्ञान तथा साधारण समझ की बात है कि कोई भी कभी भी किसी का शिष्य बनकर जन्म नहीं लेता है; प्रत्येक को किसी का भी शिष्य होने के लिए व्यक्तिगत रीति से यह निर्णय लेना होता है। इसलिए, पहले कही हुई बात को दोहराते हुए, कोई भी कभी भी प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य या अनुयायी, अर्थात्, मसीही बनकर जन्म नहीं लेता है; प्रत्येक को पापों के पश्चाताप और यीशु मसीह के प्रभुत्व को स्वीकार करने, और उसको समर्पित तथा उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में जीवन जीने का निर्णय लेने के द्वारा, नया-जन्म लेने के द्वारा, प्रभु का शिष्य, मसीही, बनना होता है। शब्द “मसीही” बाइबल में दो अन्य स्थानों पर प्रेरितों 26:28 और 1 पतरस 4:16 में भी आया है, और दोनों ही स्थानों पर यह प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य होने के संदर्भ में ही आया है।

    परमेश्वर के वचन से देखने और समझने के बाद कि वास्तव में “मसीही” होने का क्या अर्थ है, अब हम प्रभु द्वारा अपने स्वर्गारोहण से पहले शिष्यों को दी गई आज्ञा, जिसे प्रभु की ‘महान आज्ञा’ भी कहा जाता है को, और मसीही होने के अभिप्रायों को बेहतर समझ सकते हैं। इस महान आज्ञा में प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा था, “इसलिये तुम जा कर सब जातियों के लोगों को चेला बनाओ और उन्हें पिता और पुत्र और पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से बपतिस्मा दो। और उन्हें सब बातें जो मैं ने तुम्हें आज्ञा दी है, मानना सिखाओ: और देखो, मैं जगत के अन्त तक सदैव तुम्हारे संग हूं” (मत्ती 28:19-20)। ध्यान कीजिए कि प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों से कभी यह नहीं कहा कि वे जा कर किसी धर्म को सिखाएँ और धर्म का प्रचार करें, या लोगों को किसी धर्म में परिवर्तित करें। बाइबल का यह एक मौलिक तथ्य है कि प्रभु यीशु ने न तो किसी धर्म का आरम्भ किया, न किसी धर्म के बारे में प्रचार किया, न किसी धर्म के पालन को सिखाया। प्रभु ने तो अपने शिष्यों से स्पष्ट यही कहा कि वे जाकर सब जातियों के लोगों में से शिष्य बनाएँ। 

    ध्यान देने योग्य एक अन्य बात है कि प्रभु का शिष्य बनना बपतिस्मे के द्वारा नहीं होता है; वरन, जो प्रभु के शिष्य बन जाते हैं, अपने पापों से पश्चाताप कर लेते हैं, अपना जीवन प्रभु को समर्पित कर देते हैं, प्रभु ने उन्हें बपतिस्मा दिए जाने के लिए कहा है। दूसरे शब्दों में, बपतिस्मा कभी किसी को “मसीही” नहीं बनाता है; लेकिन जो बाइबल की परिभाषा के अनुसार मसीही बन जाते हैं, उन्हें प्रभु की आज्ञा के अनुसार बपतिस्मा दिया जाना चाहिये। इसलिए, वास्तविक बपतिस्मा केवल वयस्कों का ही है, कभी भी शिशुओं या बच्चों का नहीं हो सकता है, क्योंकि वे कभी भी जन्म से ही प्रभु के शिष्य नहीं हो सकते हैं, बपतिस्मे की मूल आवश्यकता को पूरा नहीं करते हैं। साथ ही, यहाँ पर प्रकट है कि प्रभु ने बपतिस्मा देने का अधिकार अपने सभी शिष्यों को दिया है; कोई भी सच्चा शिष्य, किसी अन्य, नए विश्वासी को बपतिस्मा दे सकता है। बपतिस्मा देने के लिए कोई विशेष योग्यता अथवा प्रशिक्षण का होना प्रभु द्वारा कहीं नहीं कहा गया है, और न ही बाइबल में ऐसा कहीं नहीं लिखा गया है। बपतिस्मे को वैध ठहराने के लिए यह विशेष योग्यता और प्रशिक्षण मसीही विश्वास की नहीं बल्कि ईसाई धर्म की माँग है। और ईसाई धर्म की अन्य बातों के समान, यह भी एक बाइबल से बाहर की, तथा मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़ी गई मांग है। 

    प्रभु की महान आज्ञा में ध्यान देने योग्य अगली बात है कि जो प्रभु के शिष्य बनते हैं, प्रभु ने कहा है कि “...उन्हें सब बातें जो मैं ने तुम्हें आज्ञा दी है, मानना सिखाओ;” अर्थात, उन्हें परमेश्वर का वचन सिखाया जाना है, न कि मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गई रीतियाँ, परम्पराएँ, और धर्म-सिद्धान्त सिखाने हैं। जैसा कि सामान्यतः सभी डिनॉमिनेशन और मतों में किया जाता है, उनके सदस्यों को परमेश्वर के वचन के नाम पर उस डिनॉमिनेशन या मत की शिक्षाएँ और विचार सिखाए जाते हैं। यह उसी के समान है जो प्रभु यीशु ने मत्ती 15:7-9 में अपने समय के धर्म के अगुवों के लिए कहा और उन्हें उसके लिए फटकार लगाई, उन्हें कपटी कहा, और उनकी आराधना को “व्यर्थ आराधना” बताया।

    अब, परमेश्वर के वचन से “मसीही” होने के अर्थ और अभिप्राय को समझने और सीखने के बाद, हम आगे बढ़ सकते हैं और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित बातों को और आगे देख सकते हैं, जो हम अगले लेख में करेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 20

 

    For a Christian’s growth and edification, he needs to be well versed in God’s Word the Bible, and apply its teachings in his life. In earlier articles, at the beginning of this series, we have seen three categories of Biblical teachings, which are fundamental to this growth and edification. These are, those related to the gospel, those related to the elementary principles of Christ, and those related to practical Christian living. Presently we are considering the teachings related to the gospel, and in this we have seen that learning the teachings related to repentance, and about believing in the gospel are of paramount importance. In this context we have already considered teachings related to repentance, and in learning teachings related to believing the gospel, we had said that to understand what believing in the gospel means, we need to understand what, Biblically speaking, being a Christian actually means.

    In the past few articles, from the Gospel Accounts and the Book of Acts in the New Testament section of the Bible, we have seen that there is no Biblical support, no grounds whatsoever, for the very common notion that by being born in a “Christian” family and fulfilling certain rites and rituals of the Christian religion, one automatically is a “Christian,” is acceptable to God, and will enter God’s Kingdom. These are unBiblical and absolutely wrong concepts and teachings. The Biblical teaching is very clear and unambiguous that only those who repent of their sins, accept the Lordship of Christ Jesus, and individually, voluntarily, deliberately decide on living a life of surrender and obedience to the Lord Jesus and His Word, only they are the followers of the Lord, are His disciples. In the last article we have seen that this kind of living, of following the Lord, was called “the way of the Lord” in the Word, and those who had made this decision, i.e., the disciples of the Lord Jesus, were known as “the people of the Way.” Quite unlike the common understanding and popular notion, there is no mention or indication in the Bible that following the Lord Jesus, and being His disciple was ever a religion, a matter of fulfilling religious observances. Rather, the Biblical concept is, being His disciple is always about submission and obedience to the Lord, His Word, and of discipleship. Today we will see how the word “Christian” came to be associated with the disciples or followers of the Lord Jesus.

    In Acts 11:26, for the first time in the Bible, and in the history of Christianity, the word “Christian” has been used “…And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” Once again, we see the primary place and undeniable necessity is of being a disciple. As is written in the verse, it was the disciples of the Lord Jesus who were called Christians; and not the followers of any religion, nor those who fulfilled any religious rites and practices, nor those who observed certain festivals and rituals. 

    So here we have the Biblical definition, that the Holy Spirit has recorded in God’s Word for all times and for the whole world, of who a Christian is – a Christian is a disciple of Christ. And we have seen above and earlier, how and on what grounds one becomes a disciple of the Lord Jesus. It is a matter of general knowledge and common sense that no one can ever be born as a disciple of someone; everyone must personally decide to become someone’s disciple. Hence, to reiterate what has been stated before, no one can be born as a disciple or follower of the Lord Jesus, i.e., a Christian; everyone must be Born-Again through repentance of sins, acceptance of the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and deciding to live surrendered and obedient to Him. The word “Christian” has been used two more times in the Bible, in Acts 26:28 and in 1 Peter 4:16, and at both places it is in context of being a follower of, a disciple of the Lord Jesus.

    Having seen and understood from God’s Word, what it actually means to be a “Christian,” we can now better comprehend the Lord’s commandment to His disciples, the Great Commission given by the Lord before His ascension, and understand some of the implications of being a Christian. In this Great Commission, the Lord said to His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20). Note that the Lord never asked His disciples to go, preach and teach any religion, or convert people to any religion. The basic truth of the Bible is that the Lord neither propounded, nor preached and taught any religion; nor did He ask His disciples to go and preach and teach any religion, or to convert anyone from one religion to another. The Lord clearly stated to His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. 

    Another thing to take note of is that this discipleship is not conferred by baptism; instead, those who had become disciples, had repented of their sins, and surrendered their lives to the Lord Jesus, they were to be baptized. In other words, baptism never makes anyone a “Christian;” but those who become Christians by the Biblical definition, they should be baptized, as the Lord has commanded. Therefore, true Biblical baptism is always of adults, never of infants and children, since they are not disciples of Christ Jesus by birth and do not fulfil the basic requirement of being baptized. It is also to be noted that the Lord gave all His disciples the authority to baptize; any true disciple of the Lord can baptize a new Believer. The Lord has never stated any special ability or training to baptize another, nor is it been written anywhere in the Bible. The demand for this special qualification or training, for the baptism to be considered legitimate is not found in Christian Faith; but it is a demand of the Christian religion. And like most of the other things of the Christian religion, this too is extra-Biblical, having been contrived by men. 

    The next thing to note in the Lord’s Great Commission is that those who become disciples of the Lord, they are to be taught “...to observe all things that I have commanded you;” i.e., they are to be taught God’s Word, not man-made traditions, rituals, and doctrines, as is usually done in all denominations and sects. As is commonly seen, the members are taught the denomination’s doctrinal beliefs and the denominational teachings in the name of God’s Word. This is the same as what the Lord Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of His time for, in Matthew 15:7-9, calling them hypocrites and their worship as “vain worship.”

    Now, having understood from God’s Word, the meaning, and implications of the term “Christian,” we can now move ahead and understand what it means to believe in the gospel; and we will look into this in the next article.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
