पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था वाक्यांश "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" बाइबल में कहीं नहीं आया है, वरन् जहाँ भी आया है "पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा" ही आया है; तथा 'का' के प्रयोग वाली सभी शिक्षाएं गलत हैं। हमने बाइबल में से पदों और वाक्यांशों को भी देखा था और ध्यान किया था कि 'से' के स्थान पर 'का' लगा देने से वाक्यांश का पूरा अर्थ ही बदल जाता है और गलत व्याख्या करने तथा झूठी शिक्षाओं के लिए अवसर खुल जाते हैं। आज हम इसे और आगे देखेंगे तथा बाइबल के व्यावहारिक उदाहरणों से समझेंगे कि "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" की अनिवार्यता को सिखाने वाली कोई शिक्षा बाइबल में कहीं नहीं है।

बहुधा, इस बपतिस्मे के विषय लोगों में यह धारणा दी जाती है कि यह बपतिस्मा पाना पवित्र आत्मा पाने से पृथक, एक अतिरिक्त (extra) अनुभव है, जो मसीही विश्वासी को सामान्य से और अधिक सक्षम करता है, उसे परमेश्वर के लिए और अधिक उपयोगी और सामर्थी बनाता है। इसलिए जो प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी होना चाहता है, या सामर्थ्य के कार्य करना चाहता है, उसे प्रभु से यह अनुभव प्राप्त करना चाहिए, इसके लिए प्रयास और प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए। जबकि सत्य यह है कि बाइबल में ऐसी कोई शिक्षा कहीं पर भी नहीं दी गई है। ध्यान करें, न तो उन 3000 प्रथम विश्वासियों से, जिन्होंने पतरस के प्रचार पर विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार पाया यह, या ऐसी कोई भी बात कही गई, और न ही पौलुस, या पतरस, या अन्य किसी प्रेरित अथवा प्रचारक के द्वारा कभी भी कहीं भी उनकी अपनी सेवकाई के विषय में कहा गया कि उसने एक अतिरिक्त “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाया था, जिसके फलस्वरूप वह और अधिक सामर्थी होकर प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी हो सका। न ही उन्होंने कभी यह शिक्षा अथवा प्रचार किया कि विश्वासियों को प्रभु के लिए अधिक उपयोगी होने, सामर्थी हों के लिए एक अतिरिक्त "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" लेना होगा। क्या उन आरंभिक प्रेरितों और प्रभु के शिष्यों से अधिक सामर्थी सेवकाई किसी की हो सकती है, जिन्होंने सारे संसार में सुसमाचार फैला दिया और संसार को उलट-पुलट कर दिया (प्रेरितों 17:6)? किन्तु उन्हें कभी कोई अतिरिक्त “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ी, और न ही उसका कोई परचा किया, कोई शिक्षा दी; तो फिर आज यह आवश्यकता क्यों होगी? साथ ही पौलुस ने कहा कि मसीही विश्वासी उस के समान प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करें (1 कुरिन्थियों 4:16-17; 11:1; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:1); अर्थात जो उसके समान प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करेगा, वह उसके समान प्रभु के लिए प्रभावी और उपयोगी भी होगा। यही एक तथ्य अपने आप में इस “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने की आवश्यकता एवं औचित्य से संबंधित गलत शिक्षा के व्यर्थ एवं अनुचित होने को स्पष्ट दिखा देता है।

प्रेरितों 1:5 का वाक्य, प्रभु द्वारा पद 4 में कही जा रही बात का ही ज़ारी रखा जाना है, कि पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करना औ उससे बपतिस्मा पान एक ही बात है; और प्रभु की बात में कोई चकराने वाली बात (confusion) नहीं है। यदि कोई असमंजस है तो वह इस पद में झूठी शिक्षाएं ले आन और इस तोड़-मरोड़ कर प्रस्तुत करने के कार्य है। प्रभु ने सीधे और साफ शब्दों में पद 4 की प्रतिज्ञा - उन शिष्यों के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करना, और उसको ही पद 5 में पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाना कहा है, जिसकी पुष्टि एक बार फिर से पद 8 में प्रभु की बात से हो जाती है।

न ही प्रभु ने यहाँ, प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में, न ही अन्य किसी स्थान पर प्रभु ने किसी से भी यह नहीं कहा कि “पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त कर लेने के बाद, प्रयास और प्रार्थना करना कि तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा भी मिल जाए; उसके लिए यत्न करते रहना, जिससे तुम और भी अधिक सामर्थी होकर सेवकाई कर सको।” अर्थात, उन शिष्यों को यह विशेष बपतिस्मा पाने के लिए अपनी ओर से और कुछ नहीं करना था; कोई लालसा नहीं, कोई प्रतीक्षा नहीं, कोई प्रयास नहीं, कोई प्रार्थना नहीं। जो होना था वह प्रभु के द्वारा स्वतः ही किया जाना था; यह उनके किसी कार्य के परिणाम स्वरूप नहीं होना था; प्रभु ने ही अपने समय और इच्छ के अनुसार पवित्र आत्मा क दें था। इस पद में ऐसा कोई संकेत भी नहीं है जिससे यह आभास हो कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना और पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना कोई दो पृथक कार्य अथवा अनुभव हैं। यह बिलकुल स्पष्ट है कि प्रेरितों 1:4 और 5 में एक ही बात को दो विभिन्न प्रकार से व्यक्त किया गया है।

जैसे हम पहले भी देख चुके हैं, पवित्र आत्मा कोई वस्तु नहीं है जिसे विभाजित करके टुकड़ों में या अंश-अंश करके दिया जा सके। वह ईश्वरीय व्यक्ति है, और जब भी, जिसे भी दिया जाता है, उसमें वह अपनी संपूर्णता में ही वास करता है, टुकड़ों में नहीं (यूहन्ना 3:34)। तो यदि प्रेरितों 1:4 की प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार शिष्यों को जब पवित्र आत्मा एक बार मिल जाएगा, तो फिर पद 5 में यदि पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा यदि कोई अलग अनुभव, अलग सामर्थ्य पाना है, तो फिर उस संपूर्णता में मिले हुए पवित्र आत्मा के विश्वासी के अंदर विद्यमान होने के बाद, अब और क्या सामर्थ्य दिया जाना शेष है, जो विश्वासी को विश्वास करने के साथ नहीं दिया गया?

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आपके लिए यह जानना और समझना अति-आवश्यक है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित इन गलत शिक्षाओं में न पड़ जाएं; न खुद भरमाए जाएं, और न ही आपके द्वारा कोई और भरमाया जाए। लोगों द्वारा कही जाने वाले ही नहीं, वरन वचन में लिखी हुई बातों पर भी ध्यान दें, और लोगों की बातों को वचन की बातों से मिला कर जाँचें और परखें। यदि आप इन गलत शिक्षाओं में पड़ चुके हैं, तो अभी वचन के अध्ययन और बात को जाँच-परख कर, सही शिक्षा को, उसी के पालन को अपना लें।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Understanding Baptism With The Holy Spirit (3)

In the previous article we saw that the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” does not occur anywhere in the Bible; instead, it is always “Baptism with the Holy Spirit;” and all teachings related to use of 'of' are wrong. We had also seen the actual verses and phrases given in the Bible and noted that replacing the Biblical 'with' by 'of' changes the whole meaning of the phrase and opens the opportunities for misinterpretation and false teachings. Today we will understand this further through some other practical Biblical examples that confirm the non-existence of any teaching on the necessity of the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit.”

Quite commonly it is said that this “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is a separate experience, a different thing, that empowers a Christian Believer from the ordinary to being extra-ordinary, and makes him much more useful and powerful for the Lord. Therefore, he who wants to become useful for the Lord, and wants to do miraculous or extraordinary works, should pray for this experience from the Lord. But the fact is that there is no such teaching or instruction anywhere in the Bible. Remember, neither to the 3000 first Believers, who accepted the Lord at the first preaching of Peter in Acts 2, was any such teaching or instruction given; nor did Paul, or Peter, or any other apostle or preacher of the gospel ever preach or teach that because they received a separate "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" therefore, they could be so effective for the Lord. Nor did they ever give any such instructions that the Believers strive to receive “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” as a separate or another experience, after salvation, so that they may become more powerful and useful for the Lord. Could anyone have a more powerful or more useful ministry than that of those initial Apostles and disciples of Christ, who in a short period of time preached the gospel in the whole world and turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6)? But they never required, asked for, or preached a separate “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”; they never needed anything like it, so why would it be required today? The Apostle Paul has written that the Christian Believers should emulate him in following the Lord (1 Corinthians 4:16-17; 11:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:1); clearly implying that those who would emulate him in following the Lord Jesus, will also be effective and powerful as he was in the ministry for the Lord. This one fact is sufficient to expose this teaching of “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” being false, and of this notion being vain and unacceptable.

As stated above, Acts 1:5 is a continuation of what the Lord Jesus was saying in Acts 1:4, i.e. receiving the Holy Spirit and being baptized with the Holy Spirit are one and the same thing; there is nothing confusing or cryptic here. Any confusion that is there, is because of the manipulation and false teachings being brought into this verse. The Lord Jesus has very clearly, in simple straightforward language, told His disciples that the receiving the Holy Spirit is in verse 4, and being baptized with the Holy Spirit in verse 5 are one and the same thing, which is then affirmed once again in verse 8, another statement of the Lord about this.

Neither here in Acts 1:4-8, nor at any other place, did the Lord ever say to anyone anything to the effect that “after receiving the Holy Spirit, strive and pray that you may also receive a baptism of the Holy Spirit; keep trying for it, so that you may become empowered to do the ministry more effectively.” The disciples were not told by the Lord to do nothing extra or special to receive this baptism; they did not have to desire it, nor wait for it, nor pray and plead for it. Whatever was to happen, was to be from the Lord and He would give the Holy Spirit as and when He wanted; their prayers, pleadings, and works of any kind for this to happen was neither asked for, nor of any use. There is absolutely nothing in these verses from Acts to even indicate that receiving the Holy Spirit and baptism with the Holy Spirit are two different things or experiences. It is very clear and evident that Acts 1:4 and 5 are about one and the same thing, only stated in different words.

As we have seen previously, the Holy Spirit is not a “thing” that can be divided or broken into bits and pieces and then distributed in parts or small measures. He is a divine person, and whenever He is given, to whoever He is given, He is given as whole, not in fragments (John 3:34). Therefore, if according to the promise of Acts 1:4, He was given to the disciples once in all His fullness and power with all His qualities and characteristics; and, if the baptism with the Holy Spirit of verse 5 is a different experience, then what extra is left of the Holy Spirit to give to the Believer, that the Believer has not already received initially when the Holy Spirit came to reside in him forever?

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is essential for you to understand, learn, and know that you have not fallen for these wrong teachings about the Holy Spirit. Neither should you be misled, nor should anyone else be misled by you. Do not go by what people say, preach, and teach; but only go by what the Word of God says, evaluating, examining, and cross-checking every message and teaching from the Word of God. If you have already fallen for these wrong teachings, then first confirm what you have believed in, from the Bible, then accept the truth and reject the corruption and false teachings and come out of all wrong concepts.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि अकसर किया और सिखाया जाने वाला दावा कि "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने से एक अलग अनुभव है, सही नहीं है। बाइबल या बिलकुल स्पष्ट दिखाती है कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना और उससे बपतिस्मा दोनों एक ही बात हैं। इन्हें दो भिन्न अनुभव कहना परमेश्वर के वचन के विपरीत है। आज हम देखेंगे कि वाक्यांश "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" बाइबल में कहीं दिया ही नहीं गया है। बाइबल केवल "पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा" की बात करती है। साथ ही यह भी देखेंगे कि 'से' के स्थान पर 'का' डाल देने से वाक्यांश का सारा अर्थ बदल जाता है और इससे सम्बन्धित गलत व्याख्या एवं शिक्षाओं के लिए अवसर खुल जाते हैं।

प्रेरितों 1:4 के विचार, कि प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होने तक (पद 8) यरूशलेम में प्रतीक्षा करते रहें, को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, प्रभु यीशु ने पद 5 में अपने शिष्यों से कहा कि थोड़े ही दिनों में वे पवित्र आत्मा 'से' (‘का’ नहीं; not ‘of’, but ‘with’) बपतिस्मा पाएंगे। वास्तविकता में, पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना, शिष्यों के सेवकाई पर निकलने से पहले पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने की प्रभु की बात का पूरा होना है। ध्यान कीजिए कि यहाँ पर दो छोटे शब्दों, “से” और “का” में हेरा-फेरी करने के द्वारा एक बिलकुल ही गलत अर्थ, जिसका बाइबल से कोई सम्बन्ध ही नहीं है, इन गलत शिक्षकों के द्वारा डाल दिया गया है। इसे समझने क लिए इन दोनों शब्दों के अर्थ को, अभिप्राय को समझिए; शब्द “से” एक माध्यम को, जिसमें या जिससे बपतिस्मा दिया जाता है दिखाता है; जबकि शब्द “का” किसी के अधिकार या स्वामित्व को दिखाता है। इसे 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:11-12 से समझिए - ‘का’ कहने का अर्थ है अन्य से हटकर उस जन का हो जाना। पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाना कहने अर्थ हो जाता है कि एक बपतिस्मा वह है जिसे प्रभु ने कहा है, और अब पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु द्वारा कहे गए उस बपतिस्मे से एक भिन्न बपतिस्मा भी देता है; एक छोटे से शब्द का अनुचित उपयोग, सारे अर्थ को बदल देता है।

यह बहुत ध्यान देने और विचार करने की बात है कि पूरे नए नियम में कहीं पर भी वाक्यांश “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है। जहाँ भी प्रयोग हुआ है, “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” प्रयोग हुआ है। “से” का अर्थ होता है वह माध्यम जो बपतिस्मा देने के लिए प्रयोग होगा; “का” से अर्थ बनता है बपतिस्मा किसके अधिकार या आज्ञा के अनुसार होगा। “प्रभु यीशु का बपतिस्मा” कहने का अर्थ है वह बपतिस्मा जो प्रभु यीशु के कहे के अनुसार या उसकी आज्ञाकारिता के अनुसार दिया गया; और इसी अभिप्राय के अनुसार “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” का अर्थ है वह बपतिस्मा जो पवित्र आत्मा के कहे के अनुसार या उसके अधिकार से दिया गया। मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की भूमिका के बारे में प्रभु यीशु ने सिखाया है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा केवल वही बताता, स्मरण करवाता, और सिखाता है जो प्रभु यीशु बता और सिखा चुका है (यूहन्ना 14:26; 16:13); वह अपनी ओर से कुछ नहीं कहता या करता है। इसलिए एक अन्य “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने की बात करना, पवित्र आत्मा के विषय प्रभु यीशु द्वारा वर्णित की गई, और उनकी निर्धारित सेवकाई में विरोधाभास (contradiction) लाना और परमेश्वर के वचन में अपनी ओर से जोड़ना होगा, जो स्वीकार्य नहीं है, वरन दण्डनीय है (प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)।

इस से संबंधित वचनों के द्वारा “से” और “का” के अर्थ की भिन्नता को समझते हैं:

* मत्ती 3:11 मैं तो पानी से तुम्हें मन फिराव का बपतिस्मा देता हूं, परन्तु जो मेरे बाद आने वाला है, वह मुझ से शक्तिशाली है; मैं उस की जूती उठाने के योग्य नहीं, वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा और आग से बपतिस्मा देगा।

* मरकुस 1:8 मैं ने तो तुम्हें पानी से बपतिस्मा दिया है पर वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा देगा।

* लूका 3:16 तो यूहन्ना ने उन सब से उत्तर में कहा: कि 'मैं तो तुम्हें पानी से बपतिस्मा देता हूं, परन्तु वह आने वाला है, जो मुझ से शक्तिमान है; मैं तो इस योग्य भी नहीं, कि उसके जूतों का बन्ध खोल सकूं, वह तुम्हें पवित्र आत्मा और आग से बपतिस्मा देगा।'

* यूहन्ना 1:33 और मैं तो उसे पहचानता नहीं था, परन्तु जिसने मुझे जल से बपतिस्मा देने को भेजा, उसी ने मुझ से कहा, कि 'जिस पर तू आत्मा को उतरते और ठहरते देखे; वही पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा देनेवाला है।'

* प्रेरितों 11:16 तब मुझे प्रभु का वह वचन स्मरण आया; जो उसने कहा; कि 'यूहन्ना ने तो पानी से बपतिस्मा दिया, परन्तु तुम पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाओगे।'

* प्रेरितों 18:25 उसने प्रभु के मार्ग की शिक्षा पाई थी, और मन लगाकर यीशु के विषय में ठीक ठीक सुनाता, और सिखाता था, परन्तु वह केवल यूहन्ना के बपतिस्मा की बात जानता था। - यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले के अनुसार या उसके अधिकार से, जल से दिया गया बपतिस्मा।

* 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:12 मेरा कहना यह है, कि तुम में से कोई तो अपने आप को पौलुस का, कोई अपुल्लोस का, कोई कैफा का, कोई मसीह का कहता है। कुरिन्थुस के विश्वासियों ने अपने आप को व्यक्तियों के अधिकार के आधार पर विभाजित करना आरंभ कर दिया था, कलीसिया में विभाजन आने लग गए थे।

* 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:2 और सब ने बादल में, और समुद्र में, मूसा का बपतिस्मा लिया। मूसा के अधिकार के अंतर्गत इस्राएलियों के लिए बपतिस्मे का अभिप्राय।

हर स्थान पर “पवित्र आत्मा से” प्रयोग किया गया है, अर्थात, पानी के समान ही पवित्र आत्मा वह माध्यम होगा जिसके द्वारा या जिसमें बपतिस्मा मिलेगा; “पवित्र आत्मा का” कहीं पर भी प्रयोग नहीं हुआ है, अर्थात, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा अपनी ओर से या अपने अधिकार से कुछ भी नया नहीं करेगा, नहीं सिखाएगा, नहीं बताएगा।

अगले लेख में हम इसे और आगे देखेंगे, तथा बाइबल के व्यावहारिक उदाहरणों से देखेंगे कि प्रभावी सेवकाई के लिए "पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा" पाने की शिक्षाएं गलत हैं, बाइबल से नहीं हैं। बाइबल में ऐसी कोई शिक्षा कहीं नहीं दी गई है।

Understanding Baptism With The Holy Spirit (2)

In the previous article we have seen that the often made and taught claim of "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" being a separate experience than receiving the Holy Spirit is incorrect. The Bible clearly shows that receiving the Holy Spirit is the same as being baptized with the Holy Spirit. To consider these as two different experiences is contrary to God's Word. Today we will see that the phrase "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" is not in the Bible. The Bible only talks of "Baptism with the Holy Spirit;" and how replacing the Biblical 'with' by 'of' changes the whole meaning of the phrase and opens up opportunities for wrong interpretations and teachings.

The Lord Jesus, while conversing with His disciples, that they should wait in Jerusalem till they had received the Holy Spirit (verse 8), carrying on with the thought of Acts 1:4, says in verse 5 that in a few days they will be baptized ‘with’ (not ‘of’, but ‘with’) the Holy Spirit. Actually, the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit, is the fulfillment of the Lord's statement of their being empowered by the Holy Spirit or being baptized with the Holy Spirit. Note carefully, how cleverly and deceptively, through placing the word “of” in place of the word “with”, a totally different and unBiblical concept has been cunningly brought in by these false preachers and teachers. To understand what has been done by them consider these two words “of” and “with”; the word “with” denotes the medium by which the baptism is given, e.g., baptism with water, i.e., water is the medium used to baptize the person. Whereas, the word “of” denotes an authority or ownership - consider it with 1 Corinthians 1:11-12 to understand it clearly. To say “of” means to exclusively belong to the one for whom “of” is being used, and this totally changes the whole meaning of the phrase. To say “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” implies that there is one baptism that the Lord Jesus has taught and instructed His disciples about, and now the Holy Spirit too is instructing about another baptism, different from the one the Lord has said about.

It is a very important thing to be carefully noted and pondered over - throughout the New Testament, nowhere has the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” ever been used; wherever it is used, it is always “Baptism with the Holy Spirit”! Had “of” been used, then it would have conveyed the authority under whose instructions it is being given; whereas the use of “with” shows the medium in which the baptism is being administered. To say “Baptism of the Lord Jesus” means the baptism which has been administered according to the instructions or authority of the Lord Jesus; similarly, to say “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” will mean the baptism that is being given according to the instructions or authority of the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus has taught about the Holy Spirit that He talks about, reminds, and teaches only that which the Lord Jesus has already told and taught about (John 14:26; 16:13), and does not say or do anything by His authority. Therefore, to speak of a separate baptism “of” the Holy Spirit, i.e., under the instructions and authority of the Hoy Spirit, is to bring a contradiction about what the Lord Jesus has taught about the ministry of the Holy Spirit.; it is adding to God’s Word and is punishable (Revelation 22:18-19).

To understand this difference between “of” and “with” Let us look at some Bible verses:

* Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

* Mark 1:8 I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

* Luke 3:16 John answered, saying to all, 'I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to lose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.'

* John 1:33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

* Acts 11:16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

* Acts 18:25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John; i.e., water baptism administered according to the instructions or authority of John the Baptist.

* 1 Corinthians 1:12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."” The Believers in the Church at Corinth had divided themselves into factions according to the person they liked; the Church was being broken into groups.

* 1 Corinthians 10:2 “all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea” implying the Israelites being symbolically baptized under the instructions or authority of Moses.

* Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? i.e., the followers of the Lord Jesus were baptized under the instructions or authority of the Lord Jesus.

As is quite apparent from the above verses, wherever baptism related to the Holy Spirit has been stated in the Word of God, it is always “Baptism with the Holy Spirit”, i.e., like the water, the Holy Spirit will be the medium in which the baptism will be administered. It is never “of” the Holy Spirit, i.e., the Holy Spirit will not do, tell, or teach anything from His side.

In the next article we will consider this further, and see from practical examples in the Bible that the teachings on the necessity of receiving the "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" for an effective ministry are unBiblcal and wrong. No such teaching has ever been given anywhere in the Bible.
