हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है कि पाप कलीसिया में अपने घातक परिणाम ले आया, और शैतान को कलीसिया को विभाजित करने, उसमें तबाही मचाने का अवसर मिल गया। उसके प्रभाव में आकर लोग कलीसिया को तुच्छ जान रहे थे, प्रभु की मेज़ के दुरुपयोग और उसकी गलत समझ रखने के द्वारा वे प्रभु भोज का अपमान कर रहे थे, किन्तु उन्हें लगता था कि वे ठीक हैं और भक्ति का जीवन बिता रहे हैं। गलतियों को सुधारने के लिए, पवित्र आत्मा, पौलुस के द्वारा, उन्हें प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा प्रभु भोज के आरंभ किए जाने पर लेकर जाता है, और उनके सामने प्रभु द्वारा उसे स्थापित करने को दोहराता है, जिससे वे मेज़ के सही स्वरूप को जान और समझ सकें और उसका अनुसरण उसी प्रकार से करने लगें, जिस स्वरूप में प्रभु ने उसे स्थापित किया था। यह माना जाता है कि पौलुस ने यह पत्री लगभग 59 ईसवी में लिखी थी, अर्थात, प्रभु के मारे जाने और जी उठने के लगभग 25-26 वर्ष के बाद। इसलिए प्रभु की मेज़ के स्थापित किए जाने को दोहराना, सुसमाचारों में दिए गए इसके वर्णन की पुष्टि और अनुमोदन करता है, क्योंकि यहाँ पर भी वैसा ही वर्णन दिया गया है जैसा सुसमाचारों में लिखा हुआ है। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23-25 से देखते हैं कि “प्रभु यीशु ने जिस रात वह पकड़वाया गया” (पद 23) प्रभु भोज की स्थापना की, और यही हम सुसमाचारों में भी लिखा हुआ पाते हैं। साथ ही यह फसह के भोजन से भिन्न था, जैसा कि यहाँ पर भी लिखा हुआ है कि प्रभु ने यह “बियारी के पीछे” (पद 25) अर्थात मुख्य भोजन के बाद किया था। यहाँ पर भी प्रभु द्वारा रोटी और दाख रस के कटोरे के लिए एक-वचन में ही बताया गया है, एक रोटी, एक कटोरा; जो इस बात का भी संकेत है कि यह केवल प्रतीक के रूप में था, संपूर्ण भोजन करना नहीं, जैसा पद 25-26 में लिखा है, प्रभु यीशु के बलिदान की यादगारी में।

यह हमारे सामने परमेश्वर के वचन में से, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई एक विधि को लाता है, जो मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए अपने जीवनों को जाँचने और सुधारने, तथा कलीसिया को ठीक रखने के लिए है - लौट कर मूल या आरंभ पर जाओ, देखो और समझो कि परमेश्वर ने पहली बार बात को कैसे, किस रीति से किया था। वर्तमान में जो हो रहा है उसकी तुलना आरंभिक के साथ करो, और फिर परमेश्वर द्वारा किए गए के अनुसार उसे सुधारो और ठीक करो। हमने इससे पहले देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी आराधना से संबंधित बातों के लिए बहुत विशिष्ट है, और उसे केवल वही स्वीकार्य है जो उसने कहा है, और वह भी केवल वैसे ही जैसे उसने कहा है, अन्य कुछ भी नहीं। इसलिए जो कुछ भी परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित करके दिए गए नमूने से भिन्न है, उससे भटक गया है, वह परमेश्वर को अस्वीकार्य है, और उसे परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने तथा फिर से आशीष का कारण बनने के लिए उसी स्वरूप में लाना पड़ेगा जो परमेश्वर ने बनाकर दिया था, बताया था।

परमेश्वर के वचन में इस बात का केवल यही एक उदाहरण नहीं है। इससे थोड़ा आगे 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 में हम देखते हैं कि इस पत्री के समापन की ओर आते हुए, पौलुस, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में उनके सामने मूल सुसमाचार संदेश को दोहराता है। इस पूरी पत्री में पौलुस उन्हें उनकी गलतियाँ दिखाता और उन्हें सुधारने के तरीके बताता आया है। और अब, एक संक्षिप्त सामान्य समीक्षा के रूप में, पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस को निर्देशित करता है कि उन्हें दिखाए कि उनकी सभी गलतियों का मूल कारण, मूल समस्या है कि उन्होंने सुसमाचार, जो उनके उद्धार और प्रभु के लोग बनकर उसके साथ जुड़े रहने का आधार है, के आधारभूत स्वरूप की अवहेलना करना आरंभ कर दिया है। क्योंकि वे सुसमाचार के तथ्यों और तात्पर्यों से भटक गए हैं, इसलिए बजाए प्रभु की ओर देखते रहने के, वे मनुष्यों की ओर देखने और उनकी सुनने वाले बन गए है, जिससे फिर शैतान को अवसर मिल गया है कि वह उनके मध्य गलत शिक्षाएं और झूठे सिद्धांत फैलाए। गलातिया के मण्डली को लिखी गई अपनी पत्री में (गलातियों 2:1-10)। पौलुस कहता है कि वह “ईश्वरीय प्रकाश के अनुसार” यरूशलेम गया था, अर्थात, परमेश्वर के कहने पर, कि यरूशलेम जाकर वहाँ पर अगुवों के साथ उस सुसमाचार को साझा करे जिसका प्रचार वह अन्य-जातियों के मध्य करता था, और उसकी समीक्षा करवाए। यद्यपि जो प्रचार वह करता था उसमें कुछ भी कमी या गलती नहीं निकली (2:6), लेकिन फिर भी परमेश्वर की ओर से यह तय किया गया कि समीक्षा की जाए। लेकिन इससे पौलुस और बरनबास को न केवल यरूशलेम में कलीसिया के अगुवों से अनुमोदन और समर्थन प्राप्त हो गया, बल्कि उन्हें उन लोगों का समर्थन और सहभागिता भी प्राप्त हुई।

       अगले लेख में हम वचन से इसी बात के और उदाहरण देखेंगे, और आज हमारे लिए इस के व्यावहारिक उपयोग को देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Back to Basics & Self-Examination (1)

 

We have seen in the previous articles that sin had brought its disastrous consequences into the Church, and provided Satan the way to break up the Church, wreak havoc in it. Under its influence people were despising the Church, and denigrating the Lord’s Table by misusing and mishandling it, while thinking they were okay and behaving in a godly manner. To rectify the errors, the Holy Spirit through Paul, takes them back to the initiation of the Holy Communion by the Lord Jesus, and recounts to them the manner in which the Lord established the Communion, so that they could then follow it, do it in the proper manner, as established by the Lord. It is believed that Paul wrote this letter in A.D. 59, i.e., about 25-26 years after the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Therefore, this recounting of the institution of the Lord’s Table, serves to affirm and authenticate the Gospel accounts, since the details remain the same. We see from 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 that the Lord established the Holy Communion “on the same night in which He was betrayed” (verse 23), and as we have seen from the Gospel accounts, it was not the same as the Passover meal, as it says here it was done “after supper” (verse 25), and it was done using the elements of the Passover. Also, the Lord took a bread and a cup of grape juice, here too, stated in singular, again affirming that whenever the disciples participated in the Lord’s Table, it was not to be done as a full-fledged meal, but in a symbolic manner, as is written here in the text of verses 25-26, to be done in remembrance of the Lord’s sacrifice.

This brings before us a God given method, recorded in His Word, for checking and correcting errors in the life of the Believers, and the functioning of the Church - go back to the initiation, see how God did it or had it done the first time, compare with what is happening now, and then take the corrective measures to restore what God had said and done. We had seen in an earlier article that God is very particular about His worship and only what He has said, what He has ordained, is acceptable to Him, nothing else. Therefore, anything that has deviated away from God’s established pattern and method, has become unacceptable to the Lord, will have to be restored back to its God ordained form and manner for it to become acceptable to the Lord and again become a source of blessings.

This is not the only instance of such a pattern being given or used in God’s Word. A little later, in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, as he comes towards concluding this letter, through the Holy Spirit, Paul recounts to them the basic Gospel. Throughout this letter, from the very beginning, he has been pointing out to them their errors and the way to correct them. Now as a general summation of it all, the Holy Spirit directs Paul to show them that the basic problem with them is that they have started overlooking the basic Gospel, the basis of their salvation and association with the Lord as His people. Since they had deviated away from the fact and implications of the Gospel, therefore, instead of looking to the Lord, they had started to look up to men and listen to them, providing Satan an opportunity to spread wrong teachings and false doctrines amongst them. In his letter to the Galatians (Galatians 2:1-10), Paul says that he went “by revelation” i.e., under instructions from God, to Jerusalem to share with them, to have a review with the elders in Jerusalem about the gospel he was preaching amongst the Gentiles. Although there was nothing wrong found in what he was preaching (2:6), but yet God deemed it necessary that a review be done. But this also provided an opportunity for Paul and Barnabas to not only have the approval but also the support and fellowship of the Church elders in Jerusalem.

In the next article we will see some more examples of this, and consider its practical application.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

मसीही विश्वासी - प्रभु के समान होने का प्रयास करता है

सुसमाचारों में दिए गए वर्णन में से, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य का तीसरा गुण है कि उसे अपने उद्धारकर्ता और गुरु, प्रभु यीशु मसीह की समानता में होना है। प्रभु यीशु ने कहा, चेला अपने गुरु से बड़ा नहीं; और न दास अपने स्‍वामी से। चेले का गुरु के, और दास का स्‍वामी के बराबर होना ही बहुत है; जब उन्होंने घर के स्‍वामी को शैतान कहा तो उसके घर वालों को क्यों न कहेंगे? (मत्ती 10:24-25)। यह हमारे लिए बहुत विचार और मनन करने की बात है कि परमेश्वर ने व्यवस्था को मूसा के द्वारा लिखवा कर इस्राएलियों के लिए दे दिया, और उन्हें उसका पालन करने के लिए कहा। किन्तु इस अनुग्रह के युग में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने स्वयं देहधारी वचन बनकर मनुष्यों के मध्य निवास किया (यूहन्ना 1:14) और सजीव उदाहरण के द्वारा जी कर दिखाया, बताया, और सिखाया कि प्रभु यीशु के अनुयायी को कैसा होना है, क्या करना है। मसीही विश्वासी का आदर्श, अनुसरण करने के लिए उसका नमूना, स्वयं प्रभु यीशु मसीह है। मसीही विश्वास का जीवन व्यावहारिक जीवन है; संसार के सामने जी कर दिखाया जाता है; धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के निर्वाह और किताबी ज्ञान अर्जित करने का जीवन नहीं है।

प्रेरित पौलुस ने पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में अपने जीवन के उदाहरण से इस बात को लिखा, कि जैसे वह मसीह का अनुसरण करता था, वैसे ही, उसके समान अन्य लोग भी ऐसा ही करें:

* 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:1 तुम मेरी सी चाल चलो जैसा मैं मसीह की सी चाल चलता हूं।

उसने अपने आप को पूर्णतः मसीह यीशु को समर्पित कर दिया था, और प्रभु यीशु के कहे के अनुसार करता था, उसी के चलाए चलता था, अपने जीवन से उसी को दिखाना, और उसे ही महिमा देना चाहता था। 

मसीही जीवन की परिपक्वता में बढ़ना भी प्रभु यीशु मसीह की समानता में बढ़ते जाना है परन्तु जब हम सब के उघाड़े चेहरे से प्रभु का प्रताप इस प्रकार प्रगट होता है, जिस प्रकार दर्पण में, तो प्रभु के द्वारा जो आत्मा है, हम उसी तेजस्‍वी रूप में अंश अंश कर के बदलते जाते हैं (2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18)। यह परिवर्तन तब ही संभव है जब हर बात में हर निर्णय से पहले, यह विचार करें कि इस बात के लिए, या इस परिस्थिति में, प्रभु यीशु क्या कहता, अथवा क्या करता?” इसीलिए पवित्र आत्मा ने लिखवाया है कि “इस संसार के सदृश न बनो; परन्तु तुम्हारी बुद्धि के नये हो जाने से तुम्हारा चाल-चलन भी बदलता जाए, जिस से तुम परमेश्वर की भली, और भावती, और सिद्ध इच्छा अनुभव से मालूम करते रहो (रोमियों 12:2)। हम मसीही विश्वासियों को अपना हर कार्य, हर निर्णय, सांसारिक बुद्धि अथवा समझ के अनुसार नहीं वरन उस बदली हुई बुद्धि और चाल-चलन के अनुसार करना है।

यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आप के लिए यह जाँचने की बात है कि आप का आदर्श, आपके अनुसरण के लिए आपका नमूना कौन है? क्या आप अपने जीवन की हर बात, हर निर्णय में प्रभु यीशु को प्राथमिकता देकर, वैसा ही करने और जीने का प्रयास करते हैं जैसा उस बात, उस निर्णय के लिए प्रभु यीशु करता? प्रभु ने कहा है, शिष्य के लिए अपने गुरु के समान होना ही पर्याप्त है।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Christian Believer – Strives to the be like The Lord

According to the description given in the Gospels, the third characteristic of a Born-Again Christian Believer is that he strives to be like his savior and teacher, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus said, “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!” (Matthew 10:24-25). Something very important and significant for us to ponder over is the fact that God gave His Law through Moses and asked the Israelites to follow it. But in this age of grace, the Word of God became flesh and dwelt amongst us as the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:14), and then showed and taught by example how a disciple of the Lord Jesus has to live and behave. The role model for a Christian Believer, the one to emulate and follow is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The life of Christian Faith is a life of practically living the faith, demonstrating to the world by example; it is not a life of fulfilling formalities, going through certain rituals and ceremonies, observing feasts and festivals, and acquiring bookish knowledge.

The Apostle Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote that just as he followed Christ, the other Believers should follow Christ similarly:

* 1 Corinthians 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

* 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2 Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

Later on, Paul wrote about his attitude towards his life of faith:

* Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

* Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

He had fully surrendered himself to Christ Jesus, and only did according to the instructions of the Lord; all Paul wanted to do was to glorify the Lord and show Him through his life.

To grow in maturity of life of Christian faith is to increase in the likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18). This transformation is only possible when for every decision a person first stops and considers, “for this thing or for this situation, what would the Lord Jesus have done, or said?” That is why the Holy Spirit had it written, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). The Christian Believer, the disciple of Christ, is to do everything, take every decision, not according to the mind and ways of the world, but in accordance with his transformed and renewed mind and behavior.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is for you to evaluate and see, who in your life is your role model, whom do you follow? Do you accord the first priority to the Lord Jesus for everything, for every decision of your life, and strive to do things the way the Lord Jesus would have done for that thing or situation? Remember, the Lord has said that it is enough for a disciple to be like his Lord or Teacher.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

मसीही जीवन के चार स्तम्भ - 4 - प्रार्थना (21) 

परमेश्वर के वचन से बढ़ोतरी की इस श्रृंखला के आरम्भ में हमने देखा था कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन को जानना और मानना आवश्यक है। साथ ही हमने देखा था परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल कि विभिन्न शिक्षाओं में से तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाओं के सही निर्वाह के साथ मसीही विश्वासियों की वृद्धि, कलीसियाओं की बढ़ोतरी, और मसीहियों की आत्मिक जीवन में उन्नति विशेष रीति से सम्बन्धित रही है। ये तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाएं हैं सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएं, इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई आरम्भिक शिक्षाओं की छः बातें, और व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएं, जो मुख्यतः प्रेरितों 2 और 15 अध्यायों में दी गई हैं। व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित सात शिक्षाएं प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में दी गई हैं। इनमें से पहली तीन मसीही विश्वास में आने से सम्बन्धित हैं और पतरस द्वारा किए गए प्रचार के अन्त की ओर, प्रेरितों 2:38-41 में दी गई हैं। फिर प्रेरितों 2:42 में चार बातें दी गई हैं, जिनका आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर निर्वाह किया करते थे। इन चार में से अब हम, जैसा हमने इससे पहले की तीन शिक्षाओं के बारे में किया है, चौथी शिक्षा, प्रार्थना करने के बारे में वचन में दिए गए उदाहरणों और हवालों से देख और सीख रहे हैं। हमने इन चारों के बारे में देखा है कि आज के अधिकाँश मसीही इन का केवल एक रस्म के समान, औपचारिकता पूरी करने के लिए निर्वाह करते हैं, इसलिए इनकी आशीषों से वंचित रहते हैं, अपने आत्मिक जीवनों में उन्नति नहीं करते हैं, और कलीसियाओं में भी बढ़ोतरी नहीं होती है। प्रार्थना के विषय पर पिछले लेखों में यह देखने के बाद कि प्रार्थना क्या है, हमने बाइबल के आधार पर मसीहियों में व्याप्त कुछ भ्रांतियों पर विचार किया था। हमने परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रार्थनाओं के सकारात्मक उत्तर देने से सम्बन्धित भ्रांतियों के बारे में देखा और समझा है; और आज एक अन्य भ्रांति - ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ के बारे में वचन से कुछ बातों को बहुत संक्षेप में देखेंगे। 

मसीहियों में परमेश्वर से की जाने वाली प्रार्थनाओं में एक बहुत आम प्रार्थना है ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ जिसके बिना शायद ही कोई मसीही आयोजन या उत्सव पूरा होता हो। यह ‘प्रार्थना’ बचपन से ही रटा दी जाती है, और फिर जीवन पर्यन्त बिना उसे, उसके तात्पर्य, उसकी उपयोगिता को समझे, उसे प्रत्येक मसीही कार्यक्रम में बोला जाता है। यदि न बोला जाए तो उपस्थित लोगों को लगता है कि कुछ कमी रह गई है, परमेश्वर की आशीष नहीं मिलेगी। जिसे सामान्यतः ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ कहा जाता है, उसका प्रभु द्वारा पूरे नए नियम में केवल दो बार उल्लेख हुआ है। पहली बार हम प्रभु द्वारा इसे मत्ती 6:9-13 में देखते हैं, जहाँ पहाड़ी उपदेश में प्रभु अपने शिष्यों को प्रार्थना के बारे में सिखा रहा है (मत्ती 6:5-15); और यह ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना,’ प्रभु द्वारा दी गई प्रार्थना से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं का एक भाग है। दूसरी बार हम इसका उल्लेख लूका 11:1-4 में मिलता है, जब शिष्यों ने प्रभु से निवेदन किया कि वह उन्हें प्रार्थना करना सिखाए, और प्रभु ने उन्हें इस ‘प्रार्थना’ को सिखाया। इन दोनों उल्लेखों के अतिरिक्त, न तो प्रभु ने फिर कभी इस ‘प्रार्थना’ को स्वयं बोला, और न ही कहीं लिखा है कि प्रभु के शिष्यों ने प्रार्थना के इन शब्दों को कहीं पर किसी बात के लिए प्रयोग किया। प्रेरितों के काम और पत्रियों में भी कहीं पर इस प्रार्थना का कहीं कोई उल्लेख नहीं है।

 

नए नियम की सभी पत्रियाँ, चाहे वे किसी कलीसिया को लिखी गई हों, अथवा किसी व्यक्ति को, उन्हें वचन की सही शिक्षा देने, और उनकी गलतियों को सुधारने के लिए लिखी गई थीं। इन सभी में इस ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ का कोई उल्लेख न होना ध्यान देने और विचार करने योग्य बात है। आज जिन मसीहियों को प्रार्थना करनी नहीं आती है, वे प्रार्थना करने की औपचारिकता का निर्वाह करने के लिए केवल इस ‘प्रार्थना’ को दोहरा लेते हैं; जब मसीही किसी चिन्ता या परेशानी में होते हैं, तब वे इसे ‘मन्त्र’ के समान जपते रहते हैं; जब भी किसी भी बात के लिए, किसी मसीही कार्यक्रम आयोजन होता है तो उसमें इसे सामूहिक रीति से बोला जाता है; इसे स्मरण रखना और इसे बोल पाना एक तरह से ‘मसीही’ होने की पहचान के समान देखा और समझा जाता है; आदि। किन्तु आज पाई जाने वाली इन बातों की तुलना में, आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासियों, कलीसियाओं, और प्रेरितों तथा मसीही अगुवों एवं प्रचारकों में इस प्रार्थना से सम्बन्धित इनमें से एक भी बात का न होना हमारे सामने यह बात लाता है कि या तो इस ‘प्रार्थना’ का आज के समान यह प्रयोग वचन से सुसंगत नहीं है, वचन की शिक्षा नहीं है, एक बाद में डाली गई बात है; या फिर परमेश्वर के वचन के लिखे जाने में कुछ कमी रह गई और इस ‘प्रार्थना’, उसके महत्व, और उसके उपयोग से सम्बन्धित बातें लिखी जाने से रह गईं। क्योंकि परमेश्वर का वचन सिद्ध है, बिना किसी त्रुटि का है, अपरिवर्तनीय है, और इसमें किसी सुधार अथवा कुछ भी जोड़े जाने की कोई सम्भावना नहीं है, इसलिए सम्भव निष्कर्ष केवल यही है कि इस ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ का वर्तमान स्वरूप और निर्वाह, इसका आज का यह प्रयोग, प्रभु अथवा पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा सिखाई बात नहीं है, वरन मनुष्यों द्वारा बाद में जोड़ी गई, डाली गई बात है। 

हम अगले लेख में भी इसी विषय पर आगे विचार करेंगे, और ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ के बारे में कुछ और बातों को सीखेंगे।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (21)

At the beginning of this series on Growth through God’s Word, we had seen that every Christian Believer should learn and obey the whole of God’s Word. We had also seen that of the various teachings of God’s Word, the proper observance of three kinds of teachings has been associated with increase in the number of Christian Believers, growth of the churches, and spiritual edification of the Christian Believers. These three kinds of teachings are, teachings related to the gospel, the six elementary principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2, and teachings related to practical Christian living, which are mainly found in Acts chapter 2 and 15. Seven of these teachings are given in Acts chapter 2. Of these seven the first three are related to coming into the Christina faith and are found towards the end of Peter’s sermon, in Acts 2:38-41. Then, in Acts 2:42, four things are given, which the initial Christian Believers used to observe steadfastly. Of these four, as we have done about the initial three teachings, we are learning about the fourth one, praying, through the examples and references given in the Bible. We have seen that the Christians today observe them more as a ritual, to fulfill a formality, and therefore remain lacking in the blessings, are not edified in their spiritual lives, and the churches do not grow. In the previous few articles, we have learnt what prayer is, and then based on the Bible had considered some misconceptions rampant amongst the Christians related to prayer. We have also seen and learnt about the common and popular misconceptions related to God answering the prayers made to Him in the affirmative. Today we will begin considering about another misconception - ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ very briefly.

Amongst the prayers said by the Christians, a very commonly said prayer is ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ without which hardly any Christian function or occasion is considered complete. This ‘prayer’ is memorized in childhood, and then throughout the lifetime, without knowing, learning, or understanding its meaning, implications, and utility, it is spoken out by rote, in every Christian program. If it is not said, then the people attending the function have a feeling of things being incomplete, and that God’s blessings will not come since it was missed out. We see this prayer was first given by the Lord in His Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:9-13, where, when the Lord is teaching His disciples about prayers (Matthew 6:5-15), a part of those teachings is this ‘prayer.’ The second mention of this prayer is in Luke 11:1-4, when the disciples requested the Lord to teach them to pray, and the Lord taught this ‘prayer’ to them. Other than these two instances, neither did the Lord speak this prayer at any time or any place else; nor is it written that the disciples ever used these words, at any time, place or occasion. There is no mention or reference to this prayer, anywhere in the book of Acts or in any of the letters.

All the letters of the New Testament, whether they were written to the churches or to any person, were written to give the right teachings and to correct the wrong teachings amongst them. That this ‘prayer’ is not mentioned in any of them, is something worthy of being taken note of and pondered over. Today, the Christians who do not know how to pray, they merely speak it out by rote to fulfill the formality of having “prayed;” if the Christians get caught in any trouble or problem, they start reciting this prayer like a “chant” or a “mantra;” at all Christian programs, this ‘prayer’ is spoken by rote by the people gathered there; the ability to remember and recite this ‘prayer’ is considered a kind of ‘proof’ of the person being a “Christian,” etc. But in contrast to these things that are seen today related to this ‘prayer,’ not even one of these things were seen or done amongst the initial Christian Believers, churches, Apostles and other Church Elders. This brings a point to ponder over before us, that either this use (rather misuse) of this ‘prayer’ is not consistent with the teachings of God’s Word, is something that was added later. Else, it implies that there was something lacking in the initial writing of God’s Word; the things related to this ‘prayer,’ its importance, its utility, etc. somehow got missed out and were then added in later on. Since God’s Word is perfect, inerrant, unchanging, and there is no scope or possibility of any modification or of adding anything to it; therefore, the only possible conclusion is that the present-day form and observance of this ‘Lord’s Prayer,’ the way it is used today, are not things taught by the Lord or the Holy Spirit, but something that has been added later on by men.

In the next article we will consider further about this topic, and learn some more things related to the ‘Lord’s Prayer.’

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

4. प्रभु-भोज के लिए प्रभु के निर्देश - उद्देश्य - पद 23-26 - (भाग 1)  

इस खण्ड के आरम्भिक पद, पद 23 में, पौलुस यह स्पष्ट कर देता है कि जो भी वह कह रहा है, वह न तो उसके अपने मन की बात है, और न ही उसने किसी अन्य मनुष्य से उसे सीखा है। हम पौलुस के जीवन से जानते हैं कि वह पहले यीशु को प्रभु स्वीकार करने का और मसीही विश्वासियों का कट्टर विरोधी हुआ करता था। जब प्रभु यीशु ने प्रभु-भोज की स्थापना की, उस समय वह वहाँ नहीं था। इसलिए, इससे पहले कि कोई उसकी बातों के विषय सन्देह खड़े करे, वह पहले ही स्पष्ट कर देता है कि जो वह लिख रहा है, वह उसे प्रभु ही ने दिया है, उसकी अपनी मनसा या धारणा नहीं है। इसलिए, उसके कहे को अस्वीकार करना, प्रभु के कहे को अस्वीकार करना होगा। जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में प्रेरितों 18:1-11 से देखा था, पौलुस ने कुरिन्थुस में डेढ़ वर्ष तक परिश्रम किया था, कठिनाइयों और विरोध को झेला था, और यह केवल प्रभु की सामर्थ्य ही थी जिसने उसे वहाँ बनाए रखा था, उसकी गवाही को बनाए रखा था। इसलिए कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली के लोग, उसके साथ अपने व्यक्तिगत अनुभवों के आधार पर, यह भली-भाँति जानते और समझते थे कि पौलुस जब प्रभु से निर्देश पाने का दावा कर रहा है, तो यह व्यर्थ अथवा झूठ नहीं है। इसलिए, जैसे उन्होंने उसके वहाँ होने पर उसकी बातों को गम्भीरता से लिया था, उसी प्रकार से अब, जो उसने पत्री के द्वारा उन्हें निर्देश दिए हैं, उन्हें भी उतनी ही गम्भीरता से लेना है।

 

जो बात उस समय कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए सत्य थी, विश्वासयोग्यता और गम्भीरता से लिए जाने के लिए थी, वही बात आज प्रभु यीशु की सार्वभौमिक विश्वव्यापी मण्डली के सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए, उतनी ही विश्वासयोग्यता और गम्भीरता से लेने के योग्य है।

परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को प्रेरित पौलुस में होकर प्रभु-भोज के बारे में ये निर्देश क्यों देने पड़े? क्योंकि कुरिन्थुस के उन मसीही विश्वासियों ने प्रभु की मेज़ की गम्भीरता, उसके मूल स्वरूप, और उसके उद्देश्यों को एक औपचारिकता में बदल दिया था, उसे बिगाड़ दिया था, उसमें अपनी मन-गढ़न्त बातें डाल दी थीं। जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था, कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली के लोगों के जीवनों की व्यक्तिगत गवाही बहुत बिगड़ चुकी थी; उन्होंने प्रभु भोज के “सभी के लिए एक रोटी और एक ही प्याला” के स्वरूप और पालन के तरीके को बदल दिया था; अपना भोजन ला कर अलग से खाने लग गए थे। मण्डली में उनका परस्पर व्यवहार सही नहीं था; वे मण्डली में कुछ को ऊँचा दिखाने लगे थे, और कुछ को नीचा दिखाकर, उनका अपमान करने लगे थे। अर्थात, प्रभु की आराधना और उपासना का स्थान, प्रभु और उसकी देह के सदस्यों का अपमान करने का स्थान बन गया था। प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होने के नाम में वे लोग जो कुछ कर रहे थे, उसके घोर परिणाम भी उस मण्डली में आने आरम्भ हो गए थे, जैसा कि हम पद 29-31 में देखते हैं। अर्थात, मसीही विश्वासी होने की गवाही को, प्रभु और उसके निर्देशों को, प्रभु की मण्डली के लोगों के साथ व्यवहार को, प्रभु-भोज और उसके उद्देश्यों को हल्के में कदापि नहीं लिया जा सकता है। जो भी उसे हल्के में लेता है, इन बातों के साथ मनमानी करता है, प्रभु-भोज को एक औपचारिकता के समान लेता है, उसे ऐसा करने के घोर एवं गम्भीर परिणाम भुगतने पड़ेंगे।

जो बात कुरिन्थुस के उन मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए सही थी, वही आज के मसीहियों के लिए भी सही है। बहुत से मसीही विश्वासी, और पारम्परिक कलीसियाओं के सदस्य, कलीसिया या मण्डली के बाहर उनके जीवन, व्यवहार, आदतों, और अन्य लोगों के मध्य उनके मसीही होने की गलत गवाही की परवाह किए बिना, प्रभु भोज में निःसंकोच भाग लेते हैं। विभिन्न डिनॉमिनेशंस और कलीसियाओं में प्रभु-भोज के स्वरूप को बदल दिया गया है। विभिन्न कलीसियाओं और डिनॉमिनेशनों में विभिन्न तरीके पाए जाते हैं, और सभी यही मानते हैं कि उनका तरीका सही है, औरों का गलत है। लेकिन परमेश्वर के वचन में जो स्वरूप दिया गया है, उससे जाँच कर अपने सही या गलत होने के बारे में कोई नहीं देखता है। आज कितनी मण्डलियों या कलीसियाओं या डिनॉमिनेशनों के ऐसे अगुवे हैं जो पौलुस के समान प्रभु-भोज और अन्य बातों के लिए खराई से यह कह सकते हैं “क्योंकि यह बात मुझे प्रभु से पहुँची और मैंने तुम्हें भी पहुँचा दी” (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23)? यदि वे सच्चाई से कुछ कहने पाएंगे तो यही कहेंगे कि “क्योंकि यह बात मुझे मेरे अधिकारियों से पहुँची, इसीलिए मैंने इसे तुम्हारे मध्य निभा दिया।” 

प्रभु की मेज़ के विषय सुधार करने के लिए पौलुस का यही प्रयास था कि जो और जैसा प्रभु ने कहा और दिखाया है, उसे वैसे ही निभाया जाए; न कि उसके साथ मनमानी कि जाए। प्रभु द्वारा दिया गया “सभी के लिए एक ही रोटी और एक ही प्याला” जैसा स्वयं प्रभु ने ही कहा है, प्रभु की एक ही देह और बहाए गए लहू का प्रतीक है। वह मसीही विश्वासियों में एकता और एक मनता को भी दिखाता है। आज अधिकाँश कलीसियाओं में छोटी-छोटी अलग-अलग “रोटियाँ” और छोटे-छोटे अलग-अलग गिलास या कटोरियाँ इसीलिए हैं क्योंकि मण्डली या कलीसिया के लोगों में एकता और एक मनता नहीं है, सभी एक कलीसिया में होते हुए भी एक मन नहीं हैं, कलीसियाओं में विभाजन और दल हैं, ऊँच-नीच है, मतभेद और बैर हैं, लेकिन फिर भी लोग बिना इन बातों को ठीक किए प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहते हैं। कलीसिया के लोग प्रभु की मेज़ की उस एकता और एक मनता के पाठ का पालन नहीं करना चाहते हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि प्रभु-भोज में सही रीति से भाग लेने के लिए व्यक्तिगत गवाही और व्यवहार, तथा मण्डली में गवाही और व्यवहार सही होना कितना आवश्यक है।

 

आज हमने पद 23 से देखा है कि प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होने के लिए वचन के अनुसार उसके स्वरूप का निर्वाह करना कितना आवश्यक है। अगले लेख में हम प्रभु-भोज के उद्देश्यों के बारे में देखेंगे, और समझेंगे कि उनके अनुसार प्रभु-भोज में भाग लेने का क्या तात्पर्य है।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 3 - Breaking of Bread (5)

We are studying the four things given in Acts 2:42 about practical Christian living. These four things are also known as the “Pillars of Christian Living.” We have seen that the initial Christian believers used to steadfastly follow these four and therefore, they grew very rapidly in their personal spiritual lives and in their numbers. That which was true for those initial Christian Believers is as much true for us today also, provided like them, we too steadfastly follow these four things. We have already seen the first of these two things i.e., “Studying God's Word” and “Fellowship” in the preceding articles. Now we are considering the third thing that is “Breaking of Bread” under 7 points. We are doing this mainly from 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. Out of these seven points, so far we have seen about three points. In the previous article, we saw about the third point from verses 17 to 22, where Paul was rebuking the church in Corinth about their errors while partaking in the Lord’s Table. We had learnt that the Pastor or the leader of every church has the responsibility of serving as a spiritual father for the members of the congregation, to teach them God's Word, to correct them when they need any correction, and as and when required to also rebuke them for correcting them. Also, it is the responsibility of the members of the Assembly or the church that they should be humble and polite, be one minded, and there should be no division and factions in the church or the Assembly. Along with this all the Christian Believers should continue to learn God's Word and grow in their faith; and whenever their short-comings or errors are pointed out to them, and they are asked or taught to correct their errors or short-comings, then they should politely and humbly accept and follow it. Today, in this article, we will consider the 4th of these 7 points.

 

4. Lords instructions for the Holy communion – The purposes - verses 23-26 - (part 1)

 

In the initial verse of this section, i.e., in verse 23 Paul makes it clear that whatever he is saying, was not something of his own making, or from his own mind or thoughts; nor was it something that had been taught to him by some person. We know from Paul's life that before becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus, he was a strong opponent of accepting Jesus as Lord, and severely persecuted the Christian Believers. When the Lord Jesus established the Lord’s Table with His disciples, Paul was not present there. Therefore, before anyone would raise any doubts about what he was saying, he made it clear that whatever he was writing was what he had received from the Lord; and not something that he had thought of on his own. The implication is that rejecting what he has said, is rejecting what the Lord has said. As we have seen in the previous article from Acts 18:1-11, Paul labored very hard for one and a half years, suffering greatly, facing many problems and many oppositions to establish the church in Corinth; and it was only the Lord's strength that had kept him there and had maintained his witness among those people. Therefore, the people of the Corinthian Church because of their personal experiences with Paul, knew very well and understood that when Paul is saying that he has received something from the Lord then that is neither false nor vain. So, just as they would take his teachings and saying seriously when he was present with them, similarly now whatever instructions he is giving to them through his letter, they too have to be taken with equal seriousness.

 

That which was true, reliable, acceptable, and something to be taken seriously by the then Christian Believers of Corinth, the same thing is equally true, reliable, acceptable, and to be taken equally seriously by the Christian Believers of the Lord Jesus’s Universal Worldwide Church today.

Why did God the Holy Spirit, through Apostle Paul, have to give these instructions about the Lord’s Table? Because the Christian Believers in Corinth had stopped taking the Lord’s Table seriously, they had altered its original form given by the Lord, they had changed its purposes into a formality, they had not only spoilt it, they had added their own contrived things into it. As we have seen in the previous articles, the personal life and Christian witness of the members of Corinthian church had deteriorated very significantly; they had changed the Lord’s instructions of “one bread and one cup for all,” they had changed the way the Lord’s Table was served; they would bring their own food and eat it separately. Their behavior towards each other in the church was not correct, instead of being seen as equals, some people were considered to be of a higher status and some others to be of low status, and then those considered of a low status, would be insulted. In other words, the place for worshiping and honoring the Lord had become a place for insulting the Lord and the members of his body, in the name of participating in the Lord’s Table. Because of what they were doing, they had already started to suffer the grave consequences, as we see from verses 29 to 31. That is to say that the testimony of being a Christian Believer, the instructions of the Lord Jesus, the behavior towards the members of the Lord's Church, the Lord’s Table and its purposes etc., can never be taken lightly or treated inappropriately. Whoever takes them lightly, treats them disrespectfully, observes the Lord’s Table as a formality, they will have to suffer severe and serious consequences of doing so.

That which was true for the Christian Believers at that time is also true for the Christian Believers today. The lives, their behavior, their habits, and the testimony they have amongst others as Christians, of many Christian Believers and members of the denominational churches is deplorable; and yet they partake of the Lord’s Table without any hesitation. Various denominations and churches have changed the form and observance of the Lord’s Table to something of their own convenience. Different churches and denominations have different ways of observing the Lord’s Table, yet everyone thinks their way is correct and that of the others is wrong. But nobody bothers to check with the actual form and observance given in the Word of God, whether what they are doing is correct or not. Today how many church Elders or Pastors can honestly say that which Paul said about the Lord’s Table “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you…” (1 Corinthians 11:23)? If at all they can say anything honestly, it would only be “Because I received this from my superiors, therefore, I am observing it so amongst you.”

Paul’s effort was to correct the observance of the Lord’s Table into its form and method as given by the Lord Jesus; and nobody should treat it in whichever way they wanted to. What the Lord has given is “one bread and one cup for everyone.” As the Lord himself has said, it is the representation of the one body and blood of the Lord Jesus himself. It shows the unity and one mindedness amongst the Christian Believers. Today in the majority of the churches there are small-small pieces of bread and small-small cups or glasses to serve the Lord’s Table, because the people of the church or assembly are no longer united, and they are no longer of the same mind; they may be members of one Church but they are not all of one mind. The churches have many divisions and factions; there are mutual differences and contentions; there are people who think themselves superior and consider others as inferior, but despite all of these wrongs, without correcting any of these things, people continue to take part in the Lord’s Table with impunity. In the previous article we have seen that partaking in the Lord’s Table properly demands having a proper personal witness and behavior amongst the people, as well as a proper witness and behavior within the church.

Today we have seen from verse 23 how essential it is to partake in the Lord’s Table in conformity with the Word of God. It is very necessary to observe the Lord’s Table in the same form as it was given by the Lord. In the next article we will consider the purpose and meaning of partaking in the Lord’s Table.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
