    हमने पहले के लेखों में देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार, पाप से व्यवहार करने के परमेश्वर के केवल दो ही तरीके हैं - या तो पाप क्षमा किया जाता है, अन्यथा उसका न्याय करके दण्ड दिया जाता है। दोनों, क्षमा तथा न्याय एवं दण्ड, परमेश्वर ही के द्वारा हैं, उसके मानकों के अनुसार, उसकी विधि के द्वारा, और यह सब उसने अपने वचन बाइबल में पहले से दे दिया है। इससे पिछले लेख में हमने, पाप की क्षमा के बारे में अध्ययन करते समय देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी संतान, अर्थात नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों, की बहुत चिंता करता है, और उन्हें संसार के साथ समझौते तथा पथभ्रष्ट जीवन में बने नहीं रहने देता है। वह चाहता है कि वे खराई से अपने पापों का अंगीकार करें, और ईमानदारी से उनके लिए सच्चा पश्चाताप करें, जिससे कि वह उन्हें क्षमा कर सके। किन्तु यदि वे अपने पापों में बने ही रहते हैं, तो एक प्रेमी पिता के समान, वह अपने पथभ्रष्ट बच्चों की ताड़ना भी करता है। उसकी यह ताड़ना न केवल उनके प्रति उसके प्रेम का प्रमाण है, वरन इसका भी प्रमाण है कि जिनकी ताड़ना की जाती है, वे परमेश्वर की संतान हैं। परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रदान की जाने वाली क्षमा मनुष्यों की किसी सिफारिश, हस्तक्षेप, मानकों, मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गाई किसी विधि, या मनुष्य के किन्हीं कार्यों पर आधारित नहीं है। परमेश्वर, जो प्रत्येक के मन की वास्तविक दशा को जानता है, वह अपने सभी निर्णय स्वयं लेता है, अपने मानकों के आधार पर। हमने पिछले लेख का समापन इस चेतावनी के साथ किया था कि जो अपने आप को परमेश्वर के लोग कहते हैं, उसके विश्वासी होने का दावा करते हैं, किन्तु संसार के साथ समझौते का तथा एक पथभ्रष्ट जीवन जीते रहने के बावजूद भी यदि प्रभु की ओर से उनकी ताड़ना नहीं होती है, तो उन्हें सचेत हो जाना चाहिए, अपने जीवनों को बड़े ध्यान से और बारीकी से जाँच लेना चाहिए, और आवश्यक सुधार कर लेने चाहिएं, क्योंकि उनकी ताड़ना न किया जाना, बाइबल के अनुसार इस बात को दिखाता है कि वास्तव में वे परमेश्वर की संतान, उसके लोग नहीं हैं। आज से हम परमेश्वर द्वारा पाप के साथ व्यवहार करने के दूसरे तरीके, पाप के लिए न्याय, के बारे में देखना आरंभ करते हैं।

    प्रभु भोज और उसमें उचित रीति से भाग लेने की चर्चा के इस खण्ड के अन्त की ओर आते हुए, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में प्रेरित पौलुस, यह सिखाने के बाद कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को अपने आप को जाँचना, अपने पापों का अंगीकार करके उनके लिए पश्चाताप करना, प्रभु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगना अनिवार्य है तब ही वह उचित रीति से प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकता है, अब पद 31-32 में पापों के न्याय के बारे में बात करता है। यहाँ पर न्याय के दो चरण दिए गए हैं; पहला चरण स्वयं भाग लेने वाले के द्वारा है, और दूसरा चरण परमेश्वर के द्वारा। यदि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वाला अपने आप को उचित रीति से जाँच कर अपने पाप का न्याय नहीं करता है; यदि उसके पापों का अंगीकार, उनके लिए पश्चाताप, और उसे प्रभु से उनकी क्षमा मिलना नहीं हुआ है, तो फिर परमेश्वर उनका न्याय करेगा। इन दोनों पदों में इस बात पर ध्यान दीजिए कि पौलुस पहली बार प्रभु भोज से संबंधित इस खण्ड में शब्द “हम” का प्रयोग कर रहा है। शब्द “हम” के प्रयोग के द्वारा पौलुस अपने आप को भी उन लोगों में सम्मिलित कर लेता है जिन्हें ऐसा करने की आवश्यकता है; अर्थात, जब भी पौलुस को प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना होता था, वह भी अपने आप को जाँचता था, जिससे कि परमेश्वर द्वारा उसका न्याय न हो। पौलुस इस बात को भी स्पष्ट कर देता है कि जब बात यहाँ तक पहुँच जाती है कि परमेश्वर को ही व्यक्ति, यहाँ पर प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाले प्रभु के जन, का न्याय करना पड़ता है, तो फिर वह अपने बच्चों को सही मार्ग पर लाने के लिए, साथ ही आवश्यकता के अनुसार उपयुक्त ताड़ना भी करता है।

    परमेश्वर के गुणों में उसका दयालु, अनुग्रहकारी, और धीरजवन्त होना भी हैं (निर्गमन 34:6-7; 2 पतरस 3:9)। मनुष्य परमेश्वर की सर्वोच्च रचना थी, उसने अपने हाथों से मनुष्य को बनाया और उसमें जीवन का अपना श्वास फूँका था (उत्पत्ति 2:7)। इसीलिए, परमेश्वर मनुष्य से प्रेम करता है, उसे नाश होते हुए नहीं देखना चाहता है, और उसे बचाने तथा अपने पास बहाल करने के लिए जो कुछ भी आवश्यक था वह सब कुछ करके दिया है। अदन की वाटिका में, जब पहला पाप हुआ, तब परमेश्वर ने आदम और हव्वा को तुरन्त ही दण्ड नहीं दिया, बल्कि उन्हें अवसर दिया कि वे अपने पाप को मान लें, पश्चाताप करें, और उससे क्षमा माँग लें। किन्तु उन्होंने अपने अवसर को एक-दूसरे पर दोषारोपण करने में गँवा दिया, और उन्हें परमेश्वर की ताड़ना को सहना ही पड़ा। तब से ही परमेश्वर के लोगों का इतिहास, इस्राएल का इतिहास, इस बात के अनेकों उदाहरणों से भरा पड़ा है कि परमेश्वर उन्हें उनके पापों के बारे में सावधान करता रहा, धैर्य के साथ प्रतीक्षा करता रहा कि वे सही मार्ग पर आ जाएं, और उन्हें पापों से पश्चाताप करने की ओर लाने के लिए भिन्न प्रकार की ताड़नाओं को भी उन पर लाता रहा।

    अगले लेख में हम विश्वासियों के ढिठाई से पाप में बने रहने, और अविश्वासियों में पाप के बारे में परमेश्वर के व्यवहार को, प्रभु-भोज के संदर्भ में देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (1)

    In the earlier articles we had seen that Biblically, there are only two ways in which sin is dealt with by God - it is either forgiven, or else it is judged and punished. Both, forgiveness and judgment, are by God, based on His criteria, through His method, all of which He has already given in His Word the Bible. In the previous article, while studying about the forgiveness of sins, we have seen that God is very concerned about His children, i.e., the Born-Again Christian Believers, and does not let them remain in their state of compromise with the world, in their wayward life. He wants them to genuinely confess their sins, and sincerely repent of them, so that He can forgive them. But if they persist in their sins, like a loving Father, He even chastens His wayward children. This chastening is a proof of not only God’s love for His children, but also proof that those being chastened, are the children of God. God’s forgiveness is not based on any human recommendation, intervention, criteria, man-made process, or any person’s works. God, who knows the actual state of the hearts of everyone, takes His own decisions, on the basis of His own standards. We had concluded the last article with the caution that those who claim to be the people of God, His Believers, but receive no chastening from the Lord despite persisting in their wayward and worldly life, they should beware, closely evaluate, and correct themselves, since not being chastened by God is a Biblical indicator of their not actually being the children of God, His people. Today, we will begin to study about the second way that God deals with sin, judgment for sin.

    Coming towards the conclusion of this section on the Holy Communion and worthily participating in it, the Apostle Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, after teaching about the necessity of a Believer to examine himself, confess and repent of his specific sins, ask for the Lord’s forgiveness for them, and then worthily participate in the Holy Communion, in verse 31-32 talks about judgment for sins. There are two stages of judgment mentioned here; the first is by the participant himself, and the second is by God. If the participant in the Lord’s Table does not properly examine himself and judge his sin, if his sin is not acknowledged, repented of, and forgiven, then it will be judged by God. Notice here in these two verses, Paul uses the word “we”, which he has not used so far in this section of the Holy Communion. Through the use of “we” Paul is including himself amongst those who have to do this; so, Paul too, whenever he participated in the Lord’s Table, examined himself, so that he is not judged by God. Paul also makes it clear that when it reaches to the point of God having to examine and judge a person, here, the people of God participating in the Holy Communion, then He will also chasten as required, to correct His children.

    Amongst the characteristics of God are that He is merciful, gracious and longsuffering (Exodus 34:6-7; 2 Peter 3:9). Man was His supreme creation, made by His own hands, and brought to life by breathing His breath of life into him (Genesis 2:7). Therefore, God loves man, is not willing to see him perish, has done everything possible to save him, and restore him back to Him. In the Garden of Eden, when the first sin was committed, God did not straight-away punish Adam and Eve, but gave them the opportunity to confess their sin, repent and ask for His forgiveness. But they wasted away their opportunity by passing the blame from one to another, and had to suffer God’s chastening for sin. Since then, the history of God’s people, the history of Israel, is replete with numerous examples and instances where God warned them about their sins, patiently waited for them to correct themselves, and chastened them to varying degrees to get them to repent for their sins.

    In the next article we will see about God’s dealing with the Believers stubbornly persisting in their sins, and the sins of the unbelievers, in context of the Holy Communion.

Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पिछले लेख में हमने पाप के प्रति परमेश्वर के व्यवहार पर विचार करते हुए, इब्रानियों 12:5-11 से देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी सन्तान को, अर्थात वास्तव में पापों से पश्चाताप कर के, उन की क्षमा प्राप्त करके, परमेश्वर के आज्ञाकारी और समर्पित जन बनकर जीवन जीने वाले लोगों की, जब आवश्यक होता है, उन्हें पाप से दूर करने के लिए उनकी ताड़ना भी करता है। मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में प्रभु की यह ताड़ना, उसके परमेश्वर की सन्तान होने का एक प्रमाण और पुष्टि है। साथ ही उनके लिए, जो परमेश्वर के लोग होने का दावा तो करते हैं, परन्तु सांसारिकता और पाप का जीवन जीते हैं, उनकी ताड़ना न होना, वास्तव में उनके परमेश्वर की सन्तान नहीं होने का भी प्रमाण है। आज हम इसी बात और इसके बहुत गम्भीर तात्पर्य को देखेंगे।

    यद्यपि यह एक बहुत कटु और चौंका देने वाली बात है, किन्तु बाइबल से समर्थन के बिना नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य भी उदाहरण हैं, जो दिखाते हैं कि बहुत से लोगों ने यह मान लिया है कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं, किन्तु परमेश्वर ने कभी भी उन्हें अपने लोग होने के लिए न तो जाना और न ही कभी स्वीकार किया, वे चाहे जो भी कहते या करते रहें। मत्ती 7:21-23 इस बात का एक उदाहरण है; इन पदों में जिन लोगों के बारे में कहा गया है वे अपने आप को परमेश्वर के लोग मानते थे, उनका मानना था कि वे परमेश्वर के लिए कार्य कर रहे हैं, किन्तु अंत में जाकर प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि वे कुकर्म करने वाले हैं और प्रभु ने उन्हें कभी नहीं जाना। इसी प्रकार से, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए दस कुँवारियों के दृष्टांत में (मत्ती 25:1-12), वे पाँच मूर्ख कुँवारियाँ समझती थीं कि वे प्रभु के साथ की हैं, किन्तु 25:12 में प्रभु उनसे कह देता है कि “मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, मैं तुम्हें नहीं जानता।” हम लूका 13:23-30 में भी देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने लोगों को पूर्व-धारणा रखते हुए यह मान कर चलते रहने के प्रति सचेत किया कि वे प्रभु के लोग हैं। प्रभु ने उनसे कहा कि अंत के दिन बहुत से होंगे जो यह कहेंगे के वे प्रभु के साथ चलते-फिरते थे, रहते थे, इसलिए वे भी प्रभु के लोग हैं, परंतु प्रभु उन्हें कभी भी जानने के उनके दावे से इनकार कर देगा। परमेश्वर का वचन यह भी दिखाता है कि इस सिक्के का दूसरा पहलू भी है, परमेश्वर पहले से ही जानता है कि उसके लोग कौन हैं (यूहन्ना 10:27; 2 तीमुथियुस 2:19), और किसी को भी सिवाए परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में चलते रहने के अतिरिक्त और कुछ भी विशेष करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। उनका यही करना भर ही संसार के सामने प्रमाणित कर देगा कि वे परमेश्वर के लोग हैं (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23; 1 यूहन्ना 2:3-6)। यूहन्ना और तीमुथियुस से लिए गए ये पद हमें वास्तव में परमेश्वर के लोग होने की पहचान करने के गुणों को दिखाते हैं।

    इस समझ और पहचान के द्वारा हम जान सकते हैं कि क्यों ऐसे बहुत से लोग जो अपने आप को ईसाई या मसीही विश्वासी कहते हैं, किन्तु संसार के साथ समझौते का जीवन जीते हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते हैं, किन्तु कभी प्रभु द्वारा उनकी ताड़ना नहीं होती है, वे अपने जीवन और व्यवहार में ऐसे चलते रहते हैं मानों उन्होंने कभी कुछ गलत किया ही नहीं है। ऐसा इसलिए होता है क्योंकि अपने ईसाई या मसीही होने के सभी दावों के बावजूद, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में वे उसके बच्चे, उसके लोग हैं ही नहीं! चाहे वे अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहें, बहुत भक्ति और धर्म-निर्वाह का जीवन व्यतीत करें, अपनी तथा संसार की दृष्टि में बहुत “धर्मी” हों, किन्तु परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में और उसके आँकलन के अनुसार, वे उसकी संतान या उसके लोग नहीं हैं; इसलिए वह उनके साथ अपने बच्चों के समान व्यवहार नहीं करता है, उनके गलत व्यवहार के लिए उनकी ताड़ना नहीं करता है। वह उनसे अंत में न्याय के समय व्यवहार करेगा, जैसे कि वह संसार के सभी अविश्वासियों के साथ करेगा। तब तक वो जो चाहे करते रहें, लेकिन उनका अपने आप को “मसीही” कहना उन्हें वैसे “मसीही” नहीं बनाता है, जैसा परमेश्वर चाहता है कि उसके लोग हों। परमेश्वर की संतान, उसके लोग होने के लिए, उनमें वे गुण होने चाहिएं जो हमने ऊपर यूहन्ना और तिमुथियुस से लिए गए वचन के हवालों में देखे हैं। अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:31-32 से अपने आप को जाँचने तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा जाँचे जाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (4)

    In the previous article, while considering about God dealing with sin, we had seen from Hebrews 12:5-11 that, to draw them away from sin, as and when it is necessary, God even chastises His children, i.e., those who have truly repented of their sins, have received forgiveness for them, and live in obedience and surrender to God. This chastening from God for a Christian Believer, is also a proof and affirmation, of their being God’s children. At the same time, for those who claim to be the people of God, but live a life of worldliness and sin, their not being chastised, is a proof that they are not the children of God. Today, we will consider about this very serious matter and its implications.

    Though this is a very strong and shocking statement, but it is not without Biblical support. There are other instances in God’s Word that show that many people have assumed themselves to be God’s people, but God had never known or accepted them as His people, whatever they may have said or done. Matthew 7:21-23 is one such example; the people mentioned here thought they were God’s people, working for God, but at the end the Lord calls them those who practice lawlessness and declares that He never knew them. Similarly, in the parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1-12), the five foolish virgins thought they were part of the Lord’s party, but in 25:12, the Lord tells them, ‘I do not know you.’ Again, in Luke 13:23-30, the Lord Jesus warned against being presumptive and clearly told that eventually there will be many who will claim that they too were God’s people and moved around with Him, but the Lord will refuse to accept their claim and deny ever knowing them. God’s Word also says that on the flip side, God already knows those who are His people (John 10:27; 2 Timothy 2:19), no one has to do anything other than live a life of obedience to God and His Word, abide in Him, and that by itself will show to the world that they are God’s people (John 14:21, 23; 1 John 2:3-6); these verses from John and Timothy also give us the criteria to know and recognize who actually are God’s people.

    Through this insight we can understand why many people who live a life of compromise with the world, partake of the Lord’s Table unworthily, are never chastened or judged by the Lord, and they continue in their life and behavior as if they were doing nothing wrong. It is because in God’s eyes, despite all their claims to the contrary, they are not His children! Though they call themselves “Christians”, though they may be very pious and religious, very “righteous” in their own eyes as well as the eyes of the world, but in God’s eyes and in God’s evaluation, they are not His children, so He does not deal with them as His children, does not chasten them for their wrong behavior. He will deal with them at judgment time, as He will deal with every other unbeliever of the world; till then they can do what they want, but their claiming to be “Christians” does not make them the “Christians” God wants people to be. To be God’s people, they have to have the characteristics we saw above from the references taken from John and Timothy. In the next article we will look into 1 Corinthians 11:31-32, about judgment, self as well as God’s.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर की संतान, नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के लिए, सच्चे पाप अंगीकार और पश्चाताप का अर्थ है नाम-बनाम विशिष्ट पापों को मान लेना, उनके लिए वास्तविकता में प्रभु के सामने दुखी और पश्चातापी होना, और उनसे दूर हो जाने या उन्हें अपने जीवन से निकाल देने का निर्णय करना। एक औपचारिकता के समान, पुस्तक से या पादरी की पीछे-पीछे रस्म की विधि के अनुसार, पुस्तक में छापे हुए शब्दों को बोलते और दोहराते रहना, वह पाप अंगीकार तथा पश्चाताप नहीं है जिसकी बात 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:28 कर रहा है, और न ही यह वह “प्रभु की देह को पहचानना” है जो पद 29 का अभिप्राय है। इसलिए, इस रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना, वह भाग लेना नहीं है जो परमेश्वर का वचन करने को कहता है, वरन यह करना वास्तव में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेना है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि बाइबल के अनुसार, या तो पाप परमेश्वर के द्वारा क्षमा किया जाएगा, अन्यथा परमेश्वर उसका न्याय करेगा, दण्ड देगा। पाप के साथ व्यवहार करने का और कोई तरीका नहीं है।

परमेश्वर अपनी क्षमा प्रदान करने के लिए न तो किसी मनुष्य की सिफारिश को स्वीकार करता है (यशायाह 1:11-15; यिर्मयाह 7:16; 11:14; 14:11-12; यिर्मयाह 15:1; यहेजकेल 14:14-20), और न ही वह अपने द्वारा आँकलन के लिए मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाए गए तरीकों अथवा मानकों का प्रयोग करता है। व्यक्ति के पापों के क्षमा किए जाने के लिए, उसके द्वारा किया गया पाप अंगीकार और पश्चाताप परमेश्वर के मानकों के अनुसार, परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए तरीके से होना चाहिए, और परमेश्वर को, जो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की भीतरी वास्तविक स्थिति को भली-भांति जानता है, उसके पश्चाताप के लिए आश्वस्त होना चाहिए, केवल तब ही परमेश्वर उसे क्षमा करेगा। इसलिए कोई भी, कभी भी पापों के लिए क्षमा मिलने को हल्के में नहीं ले सकता है, यूं ही उसे मान कर नहीं चल सकता है। विशेषकर वे तो कदापि नहीं जो केवल बाहरी रीति से कुछ क्रिया-कलापों, रीतियों को निभाते हैं, जबकि जो वे पाप अंगीकार तथा पश्चाताप के बारे में बोल और कर रहे हैं उसमें उनका मन खराई से कभी होता ही नहीं है। वे तो बस यही सोच और मान कर चलते हैं कि अब क्योंकि उन्होंने अपनी डिनॉमिनेशन की रीति के अनुसार कुछ शब्द बोल दिए हैं, इसलिए अब वे आश्वस्त रह सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर को वह करना ही होगा जो उन्होंने कहा है, उसे उन्हें क्षमा करना ही होगा, क्योंकि उन्होंने उचित अनुष्ठान को पूरा कर लिया है।

अगले लेख में हम इस बात के बहुत गम्भीर व्यावहारिक तात्पर्य के बारे में देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (3)

    In the previous article we had seen that for a child of God, a Born-Again Christian Believer, true confession and repentance means confessing specific sins by name, genuinely being sorry for them before the Lord, and resolving to get away from them or cast them out of one’s life. The perfunctory, liturgical reading from a book or repeating after the Pastor, printed words about this, is not the self-examination, confession, and repentance that 1 Corinthians 11:28 is talking about, nor is it the “discerning the Lord's body” that verse 29 means. Hence, participation in the Lord’s Table in this manner is not the one that God’s Word is talking about, rather it is participating unworthily. We had also seen that Biblically speaking, sin can either be forgiven by God, or be judged and punished by God. There is no other way for dealing with sin.

    God neither accepts any man’s recommendations for granting His forgiveness (Isaiah 1:11-15; Jeremiah 7:16; 11:14; 14:11-12; Jeremiah 15:1; Ezekiel 14:14-20), nor does He accept or go by any man-made methods and criteria for His evaluation and judgment. To have one’s sins forgiven, the person’s confession and repentance has to be according to God’s standards, in the God given manner, and God, who knows the actual inner state of every person, has to be convinced about the repentance being factual, only then will He forgive. So, no one can ever take his forgiveness from God for granted, least of all those who simply go through the motions externally while their hearts are nowhere in anything they say or do about confession and repentance, and think that by uttering a few words as a denominational tradition, they can assume and rest assured that God is now obliged to do as they have asked Him to do, He has to forgive them, because they have fulfilled the appropriate ritual.

    There is another very important aspect of forgiveness that we need to seriously ponder over and always remain aware of, when thinking about God’s forgiveness for His children. As it says in Hebrews 12:5-11, as and when it is required, and to the degree necessary, God also chastens His wayward children, as a loving Father; just the same as earthly fathers do. This chastening by God is a proof that God cares for His child, is concerned about the child’s life and behavior, will not let His child continue in a state of compromise with the world, and will do whatever is necessary to bring His child out of the sinful state he might have got himself into. The author of Hebrews emphasizes this by using very strong language in verse 8 - calling those who have not been chastened for their stubborn behavior as “illegitimate”, i.e., not actually the children of God. So, God’s chastening for a wayward, stubborn and compromising child of God, to turn him around is an expression of God’s love and care for His child, as well as a proof of that person being a child of God. On the other hand, those who continue in their worldly, wayward, compromising, sinful behavior, without facing God’s chastening and corrections, should seriously take note that this is also a proof that they are “illegitimate”, i.e., God does not consider or know them as His children!

    In the next article we will see about the very serious practical implications of this.

    इससे पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि पाप से व्यवहार के लिए, परमेश्वर के केवल दो विकल्प हैं - या तो उन्हें क्षमा कर दे, या उन्हें दण्डित करे। और, प्रत्येक मनुष्य के पास, उन के पापों लिए केवल यही दो विकल्प ही लागू हैं; या तो परमेश्वर से उनकी क्षमा प्राप्त कर ले, या उनके लिए परमेश्वर के न्याय का सामना करे। हमने देखा था कि क्योंकि पापों को केवल परमेश्वर ही क्षमा कर सकता है, इसलिए यह होना, उसी के तरीके और मानकों के अनुसार ही सम्भव है; न कि मनुष्य द्वारा बनाए गए किसी रीति या विधि के द्वारा। परमेश्वर का तरीका है कि पापों के लिए सच्चा पश्चाताप करके, परमेश्वर के सामने उनका अंगीकार करके, उनके लिए परमेश्वर से क्षमा माँगना, और प्राप्त करना। किसी भी मनुष्य के द्वारा बनाई गई कोई भी अन्य रीति या विधि, परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिये गए इस तरीके का स्थान नहीं ले सकता है, इसका विकल्प नहीं बन सकता है। आज हम इसे परमेश्वर के नबी, यशायाह के जीवन से देखेंगे।

    इस बात का एक उत्तम उदाहरण यशायाह नबी का जीवन है, यशायाह 6:1-8 देखिए। ध्यान रखिए कि इस स्वर्गीय दर्शन से पहले भी यशायाह परमेश्वर का नबी था, जैसा कि हम इस पुस्तक के आरंभ से ही देखते हैं। यद्यपि पहले भी यशायाह ने परमेश्वर से दर्शन और निर्देश पाए थे, किन्तु यशायाह 6 का परमेश्वर के अपनी महिमा में अपने सिंहासन पर बैठे होने का दर्शन यशायाह ने पहली बार देखा था। जब यशायाह ने परमेश्वर को उसकी पवित्रता और महिमा के साथ सिंहासन पर बैठे होने के दर्शन को देखा, यद्यपि वह परमेश्वर का नबी और संदेशवाहक था, फिर भी वह तुरन्त ही अपनी पापमय दशा के लिए कायल हो गया, और विशिष्ट रीति से अपने पाप का अंगीकार किया, “मैं अशुद्ध होंठ वाला मनुष्य हूं, और अशुद्ध होंठ वाले मनुष्यों के बीच में रहता हूं” (6:5)। जब यशायाह अपने विशिष्ट पाप का अंगीकार करता है, एक सराप परमेश्वर की वेदी से अँगारा उठाकर उसके शरीर के पाप करने वाले स्थान - उसके होंठों को छू लेता है (6:6-7), और उसे उसके अधर्म दूर होने, पाप क्षमा होने का आश्वासन दिया जाता है, वह प्रभु परमेश्वर के लिए काम पर जाने के लिए तैयार हो जाता है। लगभग यही बात अय्यूब के साथ भी देखने को मिलती है (अय्यूब 40:3-5; 42:1-6), जो इस सारी पुस्तक में बड़े घमण्ड के साथ अपनी धार्मिकता का और अपने अनुचित रीति से दुख भोगने की दावे करता आ रहा था। किन्तु जैसे ही परमेश्वर अपनी महिमा और पवित्रता में उसका सामना करता है, तुरन्त ही अय्यूब को अपनी वास्तविक पापमय दशा का एहसास होता है, और वह मान लेता है कि उसे अब अपने पर ही घृणा आती है, और वह पश्चाताप करता है।

    यही 2 कुरिन्थियों 7:10 का “परमेश्वर-भक्ति का शोक” है, जो पश्चातापी मनुष्य को उद्धार पर ले जाता है, जिसके लिए फिर कोई पछतावा नहीं होता है। यह होने का प्रमाण, व्यक्ति का बदला हुआ और परमेश्वर को समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी जीवन है (रोमियों 12:1-2); और यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले ने बपतिस्मा देने से पहले और बाद में इसी परिवर्तित जीवन की माँग की थी (मत्ती 3:7-9; लूका 3:7-14)। किन्तु रीति के समान, औपचारिक रीति से किया गया पश्चाताप, जिसे इस पद में “संसारी शोक” कहा गया है, वह मृत्यु लेकर आता है, क्योंकि वह कभी भी सच्चे मन से किया गया शोक और खरा पश्चाताप था ही नहीं। उस व्यक्ति के वे पाप परमेश्वर के सामने कभी माने ही नहीं गए, कभी परमेश्वर से उनकी क्षमा प्राप्त ही नहीं हुई, और वे अभी भी उस व्यक्ति के जीवन का उतना ही भाग हैं जितना प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से पहले थे, क्योंकि उसने कभी उन्हें छोड़ने का कोई निर्णय लिया ही नहीं था। वह व्यक्ति तो केवल एक रीति का निर्वाह करने के लिए, एक औपचारिकता को पूरा करने के लिए आया था, और उसके डिनॉमिनेशन की रीति के अनुसार यह करने के बाद वह इस संतुष्टि के साथ चला गया कि अब वह परमेश्वर के साथ ठीक दशा में आ गया है, क्योंकि उसके पास्टर ने उससे यह कह दिया है। किन्तु वास्तविकता में तो वह जिस हाल में आया था, उससे किसी भी बेहतर स्थिति में नहीं लौटा, वरन संभवतः और बिगड़ी हुई दशा में लौटा, क्योंकि अब उसपर एक और अयोग्य रीति से मेज़ में भाग लेने और परमेश्वर का मज़ाक उड़ाने का पाप भी जुड़ गया है।

    अगले लेख में हम इसके बारे में थोड़ा और देखेंगे, और पाप के साथ व्यवहार के परमेश्वर के दूसरे तरीके - न्याय और दण्ड के बारे में भी देखेंगे। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

    In the previous article we have seen that God has only two options about dealing with sins – forgive them, or punish them. Only these two options are applicable to each and every person, for their sins, either seek God’s forgiveness, or face God’s judgement for them. We had seen that since it for God to forgive sins, therefore, this has to be done by His method and His standards; not through any man-made rituals or method. God’s method is that sins have to be sincerely repented of, confessed before God, and God’s forgiveness for them has to be asked and obtained. No man-made ritual or procedure can ever replace or be an alternative to this God given method. Today, we will see this illustrated in the life of God’s prophet, Isaiah.

    This is well illustrated from the life of Isaiah, in Isaiah 6:1-8. Remember, even before this heavenly vision seen by Isaiah, he already was a Prophet of God, as we see right from the beginning of this book. While, Isaiah had been receiving visions and instructions from God, but the vision of God in His majesty, seated on His throne, was first seen by Isaiah in chapter 6. When Isaiah sees the Lord God in His holiness and majesty, though a Prophet and spokesperson of God, he is immediately convicted of his own sins, and cries out confessing specifically that “I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips” (6:5). When Isaiah specifically confesses his sin, a seraph takes a coal from the altar of God and touches the specific sinning part of Isaiah’s body - his lips (6:6-7), and he is assured of his sin being forgiven and iniquity removed, and he is now ready to go to work for the Lord God. Much the same happened to Job (Job 40:3-5; 42:1-6), who throughout the book, till this point, had been proudly declaring his being righteous and suffering unjustly. But the moment God in His majesty and holiness confronts him, Job immediately realizes his actual sinful condition, and confesses that he is vile, abhors himself and repents.

    This is the “godly sorrow” of 2 Corinthians 7:10, that leads to salvation of the penitent person, and for which there will not be any regrets later. The proof of this having happened is the changed life of the person, now submitted and obedient to God (Romans 12:1-2); and it is this that John the Baptist had demanded before and after baptism (Matthew 3:7-9; Luke 3:7-14). But the ritualistic, perfunctory repentance, spoken in this verse as “sorrow of the world” produces death, since it never was a sorrow of the heart, never was a true repentance. Those sins still remained unconfessed, unforgiven, and still very much a part and parcel of the person’s life; they were never actually regretted for, and the person never meant to cast them away. All he had come to do was fulfill a religious ritual, an obligation, and having done it in the denominationally prescribed manner, he went back content that he had become right with God since his Pastor told him that; but actually no better than the condition he had come in, maybe somewhat worse, since now another sin of unworthily participating in the Communion and mocking God had also been added to his list of sins.

    In the next article, we will see more about this, and the second way of God handling sin - by judgment. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    परमेश्वर के वचन में, परमेश्वर द्वारा पाप से व्यवहार करने के केवल दो ही तरीके हैं, और प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को, मसीही विश्वासियों को भी, इन दो में से एक तरीके को चुनना होता है। परमेश्वर या तो पाप को क्षमा कर सकता है, या पाप के लिए न्याय करके उसका दण्ड दे सकता है। बाइबल में पाप के साथ व्यवहार के लिए और कोई तरीका नहीं दिया गया है। यदि परमेश्वर को किसी पाप को क्षमा करना है, तो व्यक्ति को अपने जीवन में उस पाप की उपस्थिति को स्वीकार करना होगा, उस विशिष्ट पाप को प्रभु के सामने मानना होगा, सच्चे और खरे मन से उसके लिए पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु से उसके लिए क्षमा माँगनी होगी। यह रीति के समान, औपचारिकता निभाते हुए, बारंबार धार्मिक अनुष्ठान की प्रथा का दोहराया जाना नहीं हो सकता है, जैसे कि बहुत सी डिनॉमिनेशनल कलीसियाओं में देखने को मिलता है, विशेषकर तब जब लोग अपने प्रभु भोज को मना रहे होते हैं। ऐसे में कलीसिया के एकत्रित लोग या तो किसी छपी हुई पुस्तक से, अथवा अपने पास्टर के पीछे-पीछे दोहराते रहते हैं, जिसमें संभव है कि एक सामान्य बुराइयों की कोई सामान्य सूची भी दी हुई हो। लेकिन शायद ही कोई इस रीति का निर्वाह, अपने पाप के विषय वास्तव में कायल होने, और उसके लिए सच्चे पश्चाताप के साथ करता है।

The Lord’s Table - God’s Dealing With Sin (1)

    So far, in our study about the Holy Communion from 1 Corinthians 11:23-29, we have seen about the setting up of the Communion by the Lord for His committed disciples, what it means to participate worthily or unworthily in the Holy Communion, participating in the Lord’s Table being a mandatory for the committed disciples of the Lord Jesus, and the necessity of every disciple of the Lord examining himself before participating in the Lord’s Table. Today, moving ahead, we will see from 1 Corinthians 11:30-31, the consequences of participating unworthily, written by Paul under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

    These two verses place before us what happens if the Christian Believer takes the Lord’s instructions lightly, ignores them, and does what he feels like, under the presumption that since he is a child of God, he will never come to any harm. But this is a very wrong notion, a satanic deception to misguide and mislead God’s children into harm. As we have seen from Acts 17:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:13-15; and 1 Peter 4:16-17 in the last article, everyone, including the Christian Believers will have to stand before the Lord Jesus, give an account of their lives, and undergo a meticulously carried out strict scrutiny according to God’s standards, of the life they have lived, to receive the rewards from the Lord; and God’s judgment will begin with the Christian Believers.

    In the Word of God, there are only two ways in which sin can be dealt with by God, and every person, including the Christian Believer, has to choose one or the other for God to deal with their sin. Either God can forgive sin, or He has to punish sin. There is no other way mentioned for handling sin in the Bible. If God has to forgive sin, then the person has to acknowledge the presence of sin in his life, specifically confess that sin to the Lord Jesus, sincerely and honestly repent of it, and ask for forgiveness from Him for it. This cannot be a ritualistic, perfunctory repetition as is routinely and liturgically practiced in the denominational Churches, especially while having their Holy Communion. The congregation simply reads or repeats after the Pastor from their printed book, where a general list of common wrong-doings may be mentioned. But quite unlikely that anyone ever goes through this ritual with a sincere sense or conviction of sin and repentance.

    Remember, the Lord is neither interested in the technical fulfillment of a ritual, nor does He evaluate and decide by man’s methods and criteria. It is the Lord who has to forgive the sin; so, unless the Lord, who looks deep into the hearts of men seeing the actual state of the heart, is convinced about the sincerity of a person’s repentance and asking for forgiveness, everything that the person does is vain, inconsequential, and in-fact a mockery of God and His instructions (Matthew 15:7-9, 13-14). For a person to sincerely repent of his sins, he has to first accept the specific sins he has committed, confess those specific sins, naming them or recounting them to the Lord, decide in the presence of the Lord to get rid of them from his life, and then follow up the decision by implementing it in his life.
