पाप क्या है? - 2

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन, बाइबल, में परमेश्वर ने बताया है कि परमेश्वर की पवित्रता एवं निर्मलता के स्तर के अनुसार पाप मनुष्यों के नियमों या बातों का नहीं, वरन परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था का उल्लंघन है; और हर प्रकार का अधर्म पाप है - वह चाहे किसी भी परिस्थिति के अन्तर्गत अथवा उद्देश्य से क्यों न किया गया हो। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में केवल शारीरिक कार्य ही पाप नहीं हैं; वरन मन की वे सभी भावनाएं, विचार, दृष्टिकोण, इच्छाएं, आदि, जो परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था के विरुद्ध हैं, उससे असंगत हैं, और जो किसी भी प्रकार के अधर्म के लिए उकसाती या प्रेरित करती हैं, वे भी पाप हैं। चाहे वे बाहरी रीति से व्यक्त न भी की गई हों, या शारीरिक कार्यों के द्वारा कार्यान्वित न भी की गई हों, तो भी, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में वे उतना ही जघन्य पाप हैं, जितना उनके बाहरी प्रकटीकरण अथवा शारीरिक कार्यों में व्यक्त होने के द्वारा माना जाता। अर्थात, मन में पापमय विचार रखना भी शरीर द्वारा उस पाप को कर देने के समान ही पाप है। परमेश्वर, उस पापमय विचार को मन में स्थान देने को, उस पाप को अपने जीवन में स्थान देने के तुल्य दण्डनीय मानता है, और उसके अनुसार ही व्यक्ति का आँकलन करता है। 

    पाप, पवित्रता, और निर्मलता का यह सर्वोच्च स्तर, संसार भर में अनुपम है। यह मापदण्ड केवल बाइबल में, और केवल बाइबल के परमेश्वर में देखने को मिलता है। संसार के किसी भी अन्य ग्रंथ अथवा मान्यताओं में पवित्रता का, निष्पाप होने का ऐसा उच्च स्तर देखने को नहीं मिलता है। एक बार को इस स्तर को स्वीकार करना, इसका पालन करना बहुत अटपटा लगता है, क्योंकि किसी भी मनुष्य के लिए इसके सामने खड़े रह पाना, इसका निर्वाह कर पाना असम्भव है। इसलिए ऐसा लगता है कि परमेश्वर ने जान-बूझकर मनुष्यों के सामने एक असम्भव बात ला कर रख दी, और मनुष्यों को इन अजेय मानकों के द्वारा ऐसा दोषी ठहरा दिया कि उनके लिए उस के पास कभी कोई समाधान हो ही नहीं सकता है। क्या परमेश्वर ने जान-बूझकर मनुष्य को वास्तव में ऐसी स्थिति में लाकर खड़ा कर दिया है जो मनुष्य के लिए असम्भव है?

    यदि बाइबल में दिए गए पाप के आरम्भ को देखें, उसकी पृष्ठभूमि का अध्ययन करें, तो यह स्पष्ट होता है कि इन मानकों को स्थापित करने के द्वारा परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को फँसाया नहीं है, वरन उसे पाप से निकल पाने का मार्ग समझने के लिए तैयार किया है, मनुष्य को उसके प्रति परमेश्वर के असीम, अवर्णनीय प्रेम की ओर मुड़ने और समर्पित होने के लिए मार्ग दिया है। बाइबल के अनुसार, मनुष्य द्वारा किया गया पहला पाप क्या था; और कैसे हुआ? यह वृतान्त हमको बाइबल की पहली पुस्तक, उत्पत्ति, के पहले तीन अध्यायों में मिलता है, और पाठक यदि इन अध्यायों को स्वयं पढ़ लें, तो उनके लिए बात को समझना और सहज हो जाएगा। संक्षेप में, परमेश्वर ने छः दिन में सृष्टि की रचना पूरी करने के बाद उसका अवलोकन करके उसे “बहुत ही अच्छा” कहा (उत्पत्ति 1:31)। परमेश्वर की इस बहुत ही अच्छी रचना में मनुष्य भी सम्मिलित था, जिसे परमेश्वर ने शेष सृष्टि के समान अपने शब्द के बोलने के द्वारा नहीं, वरन अपने हाथों से रचा, और उसमें अपनी श्वास डालकर उसे जीवित प्राणी बनाया (उत्पत्ति 1:27; 2:7)। सृष्टि और मनुष्य की उत्पत्ति के समय पृथ्वी पर कोई पाप नहीं था। मनुष्य सृष्टि से ही नर और नारी, जिन्हें आदम और हव्वा नाम दिया गया, रूप में था; परमेश्वर ने उसके लिए उस “बहुत ही अच्छी” पृथ्वी पर, एक वाटिका भी लगाई, जहाँ पर परमेश्वर आदम और हव्वा से संगति करने के लिए आता था; और उन्हें उस वाटिका की देखभाल की ज़िम्मेदारी भी दी। उस वाटिका में परमेश्वर ने दो विशेष वृक्ष भी लगाए; एक था “जीवन का वृक्ष,” और दूसरा था “भले और बुरे के ज्ञान का वृक्ष” (उत्पत्ति 2:9)। परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को वाटिका के सभी फलों को खाने की खुली छूट दी, किन्तु “भले और बुरे के ज्ञान का वृक्ष” के फल को खाने से मना किया (उत्पत्ति 2:16-17), और सचेत किया कि जिस दिन उसने उस फल को खाया, वह मृत्यु की अधीनता में आ जाएगा।

    उत्पत्ति 3 अध्याय में हम देखते हैं कि शैतान ने मनुष्य को अपने जाल में फँसाने, और उसे पाप में गिराने, परमेश्वर से पृथक कर देने के लिए सर्प का रूप लिया, और हव्वा के मन में परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध शंका उत्पन्न की; उसके मन में आदम और हव्वा के प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम के विषय सन्देह उत्पन्न किया; उसके मन में परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता के अनुसार नहीं, वरन अपनी ही दृष्टि, बुद्धि, और समझ के अनुसार जागृत होने वाली भावनाओं और विचारों को कार्यान्वित करने को उकसाया। हव्वा शैतान के इस प्रलोभन में आ गई, उसने परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दी गई व्यवस्था का पालन नहीं किया; वरन वह किया जो उसका मन उसे कहने लग गया था; और उसने “भले और बुरे के ज्ञान का वृक्ष” के फल को लेकर स्वयं भी खा लिया, और आदम को भी खिला दिया (उत्पत्ति 3:6-7)। उनकी यह परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था के प्रति अनाज्ञाकारिता ही संसार का प्रथम पाप थी। पाप उस फल में नहीं था; पाप उस फल के प्रति परमेश्वर के निर्देशों का पालन न करने से था। ध्यान कीजिए, शैतान ने उन्हें पाप करने के लिए बाध्य नहीं किया, किसी बात द्वारा उन्हें डरा या धमका कर उनसे पाप नहीं करवाया; वरन उनके मनों में परमेश्वर के नियम, उसकी व्यवस्था के प्रति सन्देह उत्पन्न किया; उन्हें परमेश्वर की योजनाओं और बातों के विरुद्ध उकसा कर उनके मनों में परमेश्वर के कहे के विपरीत विचार उत्पन्न किए, और फिर अपनी चिकनी-चुपड़ी बातों के द्वारा उन्हें उनके मन के विचारों, मनों की बात, उनके मनों में जागृत लालच और अभिलाषा को कार्यान्वित करने के लिए आगे बढ़ा दिया। आदम और हव्वा के द्वारा अपने मन की सुनने के कारण पाप ने पृथ्वी में और सृष्टि में प्रवेश किया (रोमियों 8:19-22), और उसके दुष्परिणाम हम आज तक झेल रहे हैं। 

    इसीलिए, परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में लिखवाया है कि पाप परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था का उल्लंघन है; और परमेश्वर मन में आने वाले पापमय विचारों को भी शरीर में किए गए पाप के समान ही जघन्य और दण्डनीय मानता है। वास्तविकता यही है कि शरीर में किया गया हर पाप पहले हमारे मन, ध्यान, भावनाओं, और विचारों में जन्म लेता तथा निवास करता है; एक लालसा, एक अभिलाषा बनकर हमारे अन्दर घर किए रहता है, पलता रहता है, हमें अन्दर ही अन्दर उसे कार्यान्वित करने के लिए तैयार करता रहता है। और फिर उपयुक्त समय तथा अवसर मिलने पर हम उस पाप को अपने शरीर द्वारा कार्यान्वित कर देते हैं; पाप तो हम में उस पापमय विचार के साथ ही आ गया था, बस प्रकट समय और अवसर के अनुसार कुछ समय पश्चात हुआ। यदि मन में पापमय बातों को जन्म ही नहीं लेने दिया जाए, या उत्पन्न होते ही उन्हें तुरन्त मिटा दिया जाए, तो शरीर भी पाप का व्यवहार नहीं करेगा। इसीलिए प्रभु यीशु हमारे मनों को बदलता है; प्रभु यीशु मसीह को उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार करने वाले व्यक्ति के अन्दर, उसकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन के लिए, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आकर निवास करने लगता है।

वास्तविकता यही है कि मन ही शरीर को नियंत्रित करता है; न कि शरीर मन को। शरीर के कार्यों और प्रयासों के द्वारा मन को स्थाई रीति से नियंत्रित तथा परिवर्तित कर पाना असंभव है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह जब व्यक्ति के मन को बदलता है, तो साथ ही शरीर के कार्य और व्यवहार भी उस बदले हुए मन को प्रतिबिंबित करने लग जाते हैं। यदि आपने आज तक प्रभु यीशु मसीह को आपका मन परिवर्तित करने की अनुमति नहीं दी है, तो आप अभी, इसी समय स्वेच्छा, और सच्चे तथा समर्पित मन से की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु, मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने मन, ध्यान, भावनाओं, विचार, और व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता की है, पाप किया है। मैं स्वीकार करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर उनके दण्ड को मेरे स्थान पर सह लिया, मेरे पापों की पूरी कीमत क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा चुका दी है। कृपया मेरे पाप क्षमा करें, मेरे मन को बदलें, मुझे अपना आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बनाएं, और अपने साथ बना कर रखें” के द्वारा कर सकते हैं, पापों के दुष्परिणामों से मुक्त होकर अनन्त आशीष के स्वर्गीय जीवन में प्रवेश कर सकते हैं।

What Is Sin? - 2

In the previous article we saw that in God's Word, the Bible, God stated that according to God's standard of holiness and purity, sin is a violation of God's law; and not of the laws or things of man. And every unrighteousness is sin - no matter what the circumstances in which it was committed, or the purpose behind doing it. We also saw that in the eyes of God, sin is not only the physical acts or committed deeds; but all those feelings, thoughts, attitudes, desires, etc. of the mind, which are against the law of God, inconsistent with it, and which incite or inspire any kind of iniquity, are also sins. Even if they are not manifestly committed, i.e., have not yet been carried out physically, they still are as heinous sins in the eyes of God as they would be by their outward manifestation or being done through bodily actions. That is, having sinful thoughts in the mind is as much a sin as committing those sins by the body. God considers giving sinful thoughts a place in the mind to be just as punishable as giving place to that sin in one's life, and judges the person accordingly.

This highest level of sin, holiness, and purity is unmatched in the world. This standard is found only in the Bible, and only in the God of the Bible. In no other scriptures or beliefs of the world, is such a high level of holiness, of being sinless, ever seen. At a first glance, accepting this standard, and adhering to it to live by it, seems very awkward, because it is practically impossible for any human being to stand before it, and to live by it. So, it appears that God has deliberately placed impossible standards before men, and then judged men to be guilty by these unattainable standards, knowing that no man could ever have an answer for them. Has God deliberately placed man into an impossible position, into something actually beyond the capabilities of man?

If we look at the origin of sin in the Bible, and study its background, it is clear that by setting these standards, God has not trapped man, but prepared him to understand the way out of sin. God has given man the way to turn and surrender to His infinite, indescribable love for Him, and be delivered from his sin. What, according to the Bible, was the first sin committed by man; and how did it happen? We find this account in the first three chapters of the first book of the Bible, Genesis, and readers will find it easier to understand if they read these chapters for themselves. In short, God, having completed the creation of the universe in six days, saw it and called it "very good" (Genesis 1:31). Man too, whom, unlike the rest of creation, God had created not by speaking His word, but with His own hands and by breathing His breath into him had made him into a living creature (Genesis 1:27; 2:7), was included in this very good creation of God.  At the time of creation of the universe and of man, there was no sin on earth. Human beings were created as male and female, and were named Adam and Eve. God even planted a garden for them on the "very good" earth, and God used to come there to fellowship with Adam and Eve. God also gave them the responsibility of taking care of that garden. God also planted two special trees in that garden; One was the "tree of life," and the other was the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" (Genesis 2:9). God gave man a free hand to eat all the fruits of the Garden, but forbade the fruit of "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" (Genesis 2:16–17), and warned that the day he eats its fruit, he will come under the dominion of death.

In Genesis 3 we see that Satan took the form of a serpent to ensnare man and make him fall into sin, separate him from God. Satan made doubts arise against God in Eve's mind; raised doubts in her mind about God's love for Adam and Eve; incited her to live and do according to the feelings and thoughts that arose in her heart and mind, instead of being obedient to God, to act according to her own sight, intelligence, and understanding. Eve succumbed to this temptation of Satan, disobeyed the instruction given to her by God; did what came in her heart; and ate the fruit of the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil," herself, and gave it to Adam as well (Genesis 3:6-7). Their disobedience of God's instructions was the first sin of the world. The sin was not in that fruit; the sin was in their not following God's instructions about that fruit. Notice, Satan didn't force them to sin, he didn't make them sin by intimidating or threatening them; but did so by raising doubts in their hearts about the law of God, about His instructions to them. By first inciting them against the plans and things of God, by creating in their heart thoughts contrary to the thoughts of God, and then by means of his smooth talk, prodding them to act according to the thoughts of their heart and minds, according to the greed and desire that he awakened in their hearts and mind. Because Adam and Eve listened to their hearts and mind, instead of God; therefore, sin entered the earth and into the creation (Romans 8:19–22), and we are suffering the consequences to this day.

Therefore, God has written in His Word that sin is a violation of God's law. And therefore  God considers harboring sinful thoughts in the mind to be just as heinous and punishable, as sins actually committed in the flesh. The reality is that every sin committed in the body first takes birth and continues to reside in our mind, attitudes, feelings, and thoughts; and there it keeps on growing within us as a longing, a desire; it keeps on preparing us from within to fulfill it. And then whenever there is an opportune time, an appropriate opportunity, we end up executing that sin through our body. Sin had come to live in us with that sinful thought, it only manifested itself after some time, according to the circumstances and occasion. If sinful thoughts are not allowed to find place in the mind, or if they are immediately eradicated as soon as they sprout, then the body will also not have the desire to commit sin. That is why the Lord Jesus changes not our externals, but our hearts where sin takes roots. In the heart of the person who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, God's Holy Spirit comes and dwells to help and guide him against letting sin find a place in his heart.

The evident reality is that it is the mind that controls the body; and not that the body controls the mind. Therefore, it is impossible to control and change the mind in a permanent way, through the acts and efforts of the body. When the Lord Jesus Christ changes the mind of a person, the actions and behavior of the body also start to reflect the changed mind. If you have not yet allowed the Lord Jesus Christ to change your mind, you can now, right now, willingly, and with a sincere and submitted heart, say a short prayer, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have, disobeyed you in attitudes, feelings, thoughts, and behavior, and have sinned. I believe and accept that you took my sins on yourself and suffered their punishment in my place, paying the full price for my sins through your sacrifice on the cross. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind, make me your obedient disciple, and keep me with you.” Repentance from sins and submission to the Lord Jesus will immediately set you free from the consequences of sins and give you entry to a heavenly life of eternal blessing as a child of God.

प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित चार बातों में से चौथी बात है प्रार्थना करना, जिसके बारे में हम वर्तमान में अध्ययन कर रहे हैं। पिछले लेखों में हम देख चुके हैं कि प्रार्थना करना, केवल परमेश्वर से कुछ माँगना, या उससे कुछ करने के लिए कहना नहीं है। वरन यह उसके साथ बातचीत करना है, उससे अपनी बात कहना, और उसकी बात को सुनना है। यह परमेश्वर का निर्देश है कि उसके लोग निरन्तर उसके साथ प्रार्थना में, अर्थात हर बात के बारे में हमेशा उससे बातचीत में लगे रहें, जिससे वे शैतान द्वारा बहकाए जाने, पाप में गिराए जाने से बचे रहें। प्रार्थना से सम्बन्धित एक बहुत प्रचलित, किन्तु गलत धारणा और शिक्षा है कि परमेश्वर की प्रतिज्ञा है कि “विश्वास से” माँगी गई सभी प्रार्थनाओं का वह सकारात्मक उत्तर देगा। पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में से इस धारणा के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। हम देखते आ रहे हैं कि परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में किन लोगों की, और किन बातों के विषय प्रार्थनाओं का सकारात्मक उत्तर देने की प्रतिज्ञा की है। इससे हमने समझा है कि प्रचलित किन्तु अनुचित धारणा के विपरीत, परमेश्वर ने ऐसी कोई सार्वजनिक प्रतिज्ञा नहीं दी है, कि कोई भी “विश्वास से” कुछ भी माँगेगा, तो परमेश्वर उसकी प्रार्थना का माँगे के अनुसार उत्तर देने के लिए बाध्य हो जाएगा। पिछले लेख में हमने समझा था कि “विश्वास से” प्रार्थना माँगने का अर्थ है परमेश्वर और उसके वचन को जानते और समझते हुए, वचन में लिखी बातों तथा परमेश्वर की इच्छा से सुसंगत बातों को परमेश्वर से माँगना। ऐसी कोई भी प्रार्थना जो परमेश्वर की इच्छा और उसके वचन में दी गई बातों के अनुसार नहीं है, परमेश्वर उन बातों का सकारात्मक उत्तर नहीं देगा; हम चाहे कितने भी “विश्वास से” या लालसा से क्यों न माँगे। आज हम इसी विषय को और आगे बढ़ाएंगे, और प्रार्थना का उत्तर न पाने के बारे में कुछ देखेंगे।

 

“विश्वास से प्रार्थना माँगने” का एक अन्य पक्ष भी है। हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर से कुछ छिपा नहीं। वह सर्वज्ञानी, अन्तर्यामी परमेश्वर है। इसलिए हमारा उससे यह कहना कि हम पूरे विश्वास से, या सच्चे विश्वास से उससे कुछ माँग रहे हैं, उसे प्रभावित नहीं कर सकता है, क्योंकि उसे हमारी वास्तविकता, हमारी मनोदशा, भली भाँति पता है। उसे पता है कि हमने क्यों और किस लिए, किस उद्देश्य से प्रार्थना माँगी है। वह यह भी जानता है कि अपनी आवश्यकता या समस्या का समाधान ढूँढ़ने के लिए, प्रार्थना में उसके पास आने और माँगने से पहले, हमने अन्य क्या-क्या यत्न करे हैं। वह यह भी जानता है कि विकल्प के रूप में हमने अन्य क्या योजनाएं बना रखी हैं, कि यदि उससे प्रार्थना करने से काम नहीं बना, तो फिर और किस रीति से उस आवश्यकता को पूरा किया जाए या काम को किया जाए। परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना माँगने वालों द्वारा सामान्यतः कही जाने वाली यह सारी बातें, और किए जाने वाले यह सभी वैकल्पिक काम, विश्वास की दृढ़ता को नहीं, उसके खोखलेपन को, अविश्वास को दिखाते हैं। बाइबल में लिखी गई परमेश्वर के लोगों की प्रार्थनाओं पर ध्यान कीजिए। क्या परमेश्वर के किसी भी जन को, उसके किसी भी नबी को, या प्रेरित को, या अनुयायी को कभी भी यह कहने की आवश्यकता पड़ी कि वह “विश्वास से” प्रार्थना माँग रहा है, ताकि परमेश्वर उनके पक्ष में काम करे? जो परमेश्वर के लोग हैं, वे जानते हैं कि परमेश्वर उनके बारे में, उनकी आवश्यकताओं के बारे में, सब कुछ जानता है, और प्रावधान करता है। उन्हें किसी भी रीति से परमेश्वर को प्रभावित या बाध्य करने का कोई भी प्रयास करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। परमेश्वर के लोगों की प्रार्थनाओं से हमें सीखना चाहिए, और उनके समान प्रार्थनाएं माँगनी चाहिएं।

 

इस से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य बात है कि यदि परमेश्वर पर हमारा विश्वास वास्तव में सच्चा और खरा है, दृढ़ है, तो फिर हम अपनी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति और समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए उसके पास, हमारे अपने अन्य सभी तरीकों के विफल हो जाने के बाद नहीं जाएंगे। वरन किसी भी अन्य तरीके से प्रयास करने से पहले ही, सबसे पहले, उसी के पास जाएंगे, यह जानते और समझते हुए कि उसके पास हमारी हर आवश्यकता, हर समस्या कि न केवल जानकारी है, वरन समाधान भी पहले से मौजूद है। इसलिए हमें कहीं और जाने की कोई आवश्यकता ही नहीं है। दूसरी बात, “विश्वास से” माँगने वालों को इस बात का भी ध्यान करना चाहिए कि यदि परमेश्वर उनकी इच्छा के अनुसार उत्तर नहीं दे रहा है, तो यह भी हमारी भलाई ही के लिए है। इसलिए “विश्वास से” माँगने वालों को उसकी बात मानने के लिए, अनुत्तरित प्रार्थना के कारण सम्भावित हानि उठाने को भी तैयार रहना चाहिए, न कि अपनी इच्छा की पूर्ति के लिए परमेश्वर की अनसुनी करने वाला होने के। और तीसरी बात, परमेश्वर चाहे हमारी सुने अथवा न सुने, हमारी इच्छा के अनुसार उत्तर दे अथवा न दे, “विश्वास से” उससे माँगने वालों को, यदि परमेश्वर प्रार्थना को न सुने और अपेक्षित उत्तर न दे, तो उसे छोड़ कोई अन्य विकल्प तैयार करके नहीं रखना चाहिए; क्योंकि विकल्प रखना दिखाता है कि विश्वास खरा नहीं है। यदि हमारे द्वारा “विश्वास से माँगना” वास्तव में इन बातों को पूरा करता है, तब तो वह वास्तव में “विश्वास से माँगना” है; अन्यथा वह खोखले निरर्थक शब्दों के अतिरिक्त कुछ भी नहीं है। और परमेश्वर ऐसी व्यर्थ बातों से न तो प्रभावित होता है, और न ही उनका कोई उत्तर देता है।

परमेश्वर ने याकूब 4:1-4 में प्रार्थनाओं का उत्तर न मिलने का एक और कारण दिया है - बुरी लालसा से, अपने भोग विलास के लिए माँगना; तथा परमेश्वर के नहीं, वरन संसार के लोगों के सदृश्य जीवन जीना, और परमेश्वर के बैरी बनकर रहना। ध्यान कीजिए, यह फिर से इस विषय पर आरम्भ में कही बात की ओर ध्यान खींचता है कि परमेश्वर किन लोगों की, और कैसी प्रार्थनाओं को सुनता है। जिन लोगों में परमेश्वर के प्रति सच्चा प्रेम और समर्पण नहीं है, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता नहीं है, और जिनकी प्रार्थनाएं परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिए नहीं, केवल शारीरिक लालसाओं और साँसारिक बातों से ही सम्बन्धित हैं, वे परमेश्वर से प्रार्थनाओं के उत्तर पाने की आशा कैसे रख सकते हैं? ऐसे लोगों की स्वार्थी और शारीरिक भोग-विलास से, परस्पर डाह और झगड़ों से सम्बन्धित प्रार्थनाएं, चाहे वे विश्वास करने के कितने भी और कैसे भी दावों के साथ क्यों न माँगी गई हों, हमेशा ही अनुत्तरित ही रहेंगी।

अगले लेख से हम उन उदाहरणों को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे, जिनकी अधूरी समझ और गलत व्याख्या के आधार पर यह गलत धारणा और अनुचित शिक्षा दी जाती है कि प्रभु ने उसके नाम से या विश्वास से माँगी गई प्रार्थनाओं का अवश्य ही सकारात्मक उत्तर देने की प्रतिज्ञा दी है।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (11)

For practical Christian living, four things have been given in Acts 2:42, the fourth of these is praying - the subject of our current study. We have seen in the previous articles that to pray is not just asking God for things or to do something. Rather, it is conversing with Him, sharing with Him, and listening to what He has to say. It is God’s instruction that His people should always be praying to Him, i.e., be conversing with Him about everything, so that they remain safe from being misled by Satan and committing sin. A very common and popular wrong concept and teaching about prayer is that God has promised to give a positive response to every prayer made to Him “in faith.” For the past few articles, we have been learning about this from God’s Word the Bible. We have been seeing about whose and what kind of prayers God has promised to answer positively. From this we have seen that contrary to the popular but incorrect notion, God has not made any universal promise that if anyone asks for something “in faith,” then God will be under compulsion to answer the prayer just as asked for. In the previous article we had understood that to ask “in faith” means to know God’s Word and will, and ask in accordance with what is written in God’s Word, and that which is consistent with His will. Any prayer that is not in accordance with what is written in God’s Word or His will, God will never give a positive response to it; no matter in however much faith and desire they may have been asked with. Today we will carry on with this topic, and will also see something about not receiving answers to prayers.

There is another aspect to “asking in faith.”  We have seen in the earlier articles that there is nothing hidden from God. He is the all-knowing God who knows everything within us. Therefore, our claiming before Him that we are asking in faith or in true faith, cannot impress Him, since He well knows what is in our hearts, what we really are. He knows why, and for what purpose we have asked for a thing. He also knows what all we have tried to do, before coming to Him to get the solution to our need or problem. God also knows the alternatives we have planned or kept ready in case our praying to Him does not work according to our expectations. All these things spoken of and done as possible alternatives, by those who claim to ask in faith, are not indicators of the steadfastness of faith but of its being hollow, and of the lack of faith. Consider the prayers of the people of God, His prophets, His Apostles, His followers, given in the Bible; did any of them ever have to use this phrase of “asking in faith” for God to act on their behalf? God’s people know that God knows everything about them and their needs, and makes the necessary provisions. There is no need for them to impress God or compel Him in any way. We should learn from the prayers of God’s people, and pray like they did.

There is another related matter, that if our faith in God is sincere and steadfast, then we will not go to Him for having our needs met or for the solution to our problems, after we have exhausted everything that we could do on our own. Rather, we will go to Him, before going anywhere else or doing anything else; knowing that He not only knows about all our needs and everything about our problem, but that He already has the solution to everything. Therefore, there is no need for us to go anywhere for anything. Secondly, those who claim to ask “in faith” should also keep in mind that if God is not granting something according to our will, then He is doing it for our benefit. Therefore, those who claim to ask “in faith” should be willing to accept the possibility of some loss due to an unanswered prayer, instead of being the ones who overlook God’s will to have their own wills fulfilled. And thirdly, whether God listens to our prayers or not, whether or not He answers them as per our desires, those claiming to pray and ask “in faith” should not have any other alternatives worked out and kept ready, in case God does not answer and give what they want. Because keeping an alternative ready, shows that the faith is not sincere. If our “asking in faith” is according to these things, then it genuinely is “asking in faith;” else it is nothing more than empty and meaningless words. And God cannot be impressed by such vain words, nor does He answer them.

In James 4:1-4, God has given another reason for unanswered prayers - asking with wrong desires, lust, and for inappropriate physical pleasures; living not as people of God but as people of the world, as those who are enemies of God. Take note, this once again draws our attention to what was said at the beginning of this topic, about the kind of people whose prayers God answers, and the kind of prayers that He answers. The people who do not truly love God and are not actually committed to Him, are not obedient to Him, those whose prayer requests are not for glorifying God, but only for physical gratification, lusts, and the things of this world, on what basis should they expect God to answer their prayers? Their selfish prayers, their prayers about physical lusts, covetousness, mutual enmity etc. will never be answered, no matter how intense their claim of “asking in faith” may be, and how many times they have asked them. 

From the next article we start considering the examples that are used with an incomplete understanding and wrong interpretation, to preach and teach this wrong notion that the Lord will answer all prayers made in His name or “in faith” in the affirmative.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखना आरंभ किया था कि विश्वासी पवित्र आत्मा से कैसे सीख सकता है। हमने 1 पतरस 2:1-2 से देखा था कि इसके लिए जो पहला काम विश्वासी को करना है, वह है अपने हृदय को पवित्र आत्मा के रहने और काम करने के लिए योग्य स्थान बनाना, साँसारिक रवैये और व्यवहार को अपने अन्दर से निकालने के द्वारा। हमने यह भी देखा था कि विश्वासी को स्वयं ही यह काम करना है, न कि इसे पवित्र आत्मा पर डालकर उसे अपने स्थान पर अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी पूरी करने के लिए लगाने का प्रयास करना है। उनका सहायक और मार्गदर्शक होने के नाते पवित्र आत्मा इस में उनकी सहायता करेगा, उन्हें दिखाएगा, उन्हें सिखाएगा कि यह कैसे करना है, लेकिन उनके स्थान पर उनके लिए कर के नहीं देगा।

    फिर जो दूसरा काम करना है, जैसा 1 पतरस 2:1-2 में दिया गया है, विश्वासी को “नये जन्मे हुए बच्‍चों के समान निर्मल आत्मिक दूध की लालसा” करनी है, क्योंकि उसकी बढ़ोतरी इसी पर निर्भर है। पतरस ने यहाँ पर कुछ बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बातें कहीं हैं, ऐसी बातें जिन पर विश्वासियों को मनन करना चाहिए, ताकि परमेश्वर से परमेश्वर के वचन को सीख सकें।

    पहली बात है कि मसीही विश्वासी में निहित एक स्वाभाविक लालसा होनी चाहिए कि केवल परमेश्वर के वचन का निर्मल आत्मिक दूध ही ग्रहण करे, और कुछ नहीं। मूल यूनानी भाषा में जिस शब्द का उपयोग किया गया, जिसे लालसा अनुवाद किया गया है, उसका अर्थ होता है एक तीव्र लालसा, किसी बात पर हक जता कर उसे अपनाए रखना। पवित्र आत्मा ने यहाँ पर पतरस के द्वारा जो कहा है कि वे चाहे नए जन्मे हुए शिशु ही हैं, किन्तु विश्वासियों के अंदर एक तीव्र लालसा होनी चाहिए, उन्हें पूरे मन से केवल वह जो निर्मल आत्मिक दूध है, उसी की उत्कंठा होनी चाहिए। उन्हें जो कुछ भी ‘परमेश्वर के वचन का दूध’ के नाम पर परोस दिया जाता है, उसे ग्रहण कर लेने और उस से संतुष्ट हो जाने वाला नहीं होना चाहिए, लेकिन उन में एक समझ-बूझ होनी चाहिए, सही और गलत या उचित अथवा अनुचित की पहचान करने की भी चाह होनी चाहिए। अब एक नए नया-जन्म पाए हुए विश्वासी के लिए यह कर पाना असंभव कार्य प्रतीत होता है। वह जिसे परमेश्वर के वचन के बारे में बहुत ही कम पता है, वह यह कैसे समझने पाएगा कि उसे जो दिया जा रहा है वह परमेश्वर के वचन का “निर्मल आत्मिक दूध” है अथवा कुछ और, कोई मिलावट की हुई वस्तु?

    यहीं पर पवित्र आत्मा का योग्य भण्डारी होना, अर्थात पवित्र आत्मा से सही सहायता और मार्गदर्शन प्राप्त करना आ जाता है। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने पहाड़ी उपदेश में, मत्ती 7:7 में कहा है, “मांगो, तो तुम्हें दिया जाएगा; ढूंढ़ो, तो तुम पाओगे; खटखटाओ, तो तुम्हारे लिये खोला जाएगा।” प्रभु ने यह बात अपनी पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के आरंभिक चरण में अपने उन अनुयायियों से कही थी जो सामान्यतः अनपढ़, और साधारण लोग थे। प्रभु उन्हें सिखा रहा था कि परमेश्वर में उनका विश्वास और परमेश्वर के प्रावधान, जब साथ मिल जाएंगे, तो उनके लिए अद्भुत काम करेंगे; किन्तु उन्हें परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए साहस करना पड़ेगा। विश्वासी बहुधा इस पद को तब माँगते और उपयोग करते हैं जब उन्हें परमेश्वर से कुछ भौतिक वस्तुएँ चाहिए होती हैं। किन्तु कितने हैं जो इस पद को परमेश्वर से उसका वचन सीखने के लिए माँगते और उपयोग करते हैं? कितने हैं जो जब वे परमेश्वर के वचन को पढ़ या अध्ययन कर रहे होते हैं, या किसी भी प्रचारक अथवा शिक्षक से कोई संदेश को सुन रहे होते हैं तब परमेश्वर से यह माँगते हैं कि उन्हें झूठी शिक्षाओं, गलत सिद्धान्तों, और मनुष्यों की बुद्धि तथा समझ की बातों से बचाए रखे?

    विश्वासी द्वारा सच्चे मन से इस लालसा को व्यक्त करना, और परमेश्वर से सही-गलत की पहचान करने और बहकाए जाने से बचाए रखने के लिए उसकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन माँगने से, उनका दृष्टिकोण मौलिक रूप से बदल जाएगा, और उन में परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखने के लिए सही -गलत की समझ-बूझ आ जाएगी। साथ ही उन्हें इसके साथ परमेश्वर के वचन के आधार पर बातों को जाँचने-परखने वाला (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21) भी बनना चाहिए, और किसी से भी कुछ भी ग्रहण कर लेने से पहले बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान करना चाहिए (प्रेरितों 17:11)। बेरिया के ये विश्वासी परमेश्वर के वचन के कोई बहुत बड़े विद्वान नहीं थे। ध्यान कीजिए, यह पहली कलीसिया का समय था, नए नियम की सभी पुस्तकें और पत्रियाँ अभी लिखे भी नहीं गए थे, मसीही शिक्षाएँ मुख्यतः मौखिक ही होती थीं, लेकिन फिर भी बेरिया के विश्वासियों ने पवित्र शास्त्र से उसे जाँच-परख कर देखा, जो पौलुस उन्हें मसीह के बारे में पवित्र शास्त्र में से बता रहा था, उसकी पुष्टि करने के लिए कि पौलुस सही कह रहा था या नहीं।

    यही वह लालसा, वह उत्कंठा है जिसे मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के वचन को पढ़ते, अध्ययन करते, या सुनते समय दिखानी चाहिए; कि सही और गलत की पहचान करने में उनकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन किया जाए। जो लोग सच्चे मन से, सार्थक रीति से यह माँगते हैं, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें सब सत्य का मार्ग बताएगा (यूहन्ना 16:13), और इस तरह से उन्हें सभी झूठी शिक्षाओं, गलत सिद्धान्तों, और उनके द्वारा होने वाली हानि से बचाए रखेगा। हम अगले लेख में यही से आगे देखना आरंभ करेंगे, तथा 1 पतरस 2:1-2 में पवित्र आत्मा से परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखने से संबंधित लिखी अन्य बातों को देखेंगे।

Learning from the Holy Spirit – 11

    As stewards of God’s Holy Spirit, who resides in them always and has been given to them at the very moment of their salvation by God, the Born-Again Christian Believers are to worthily utilize His help and guidance to live their Christian lives and fulfil their God assigned ministry. Wanting to use the Holy Spirit in ways and for things not given about Him in the Bible, is being an unworthy steward, and will never succeed. Therefore, every Christian Believer should learn about Him from the Bible. God the Holy Spirit has also been given to be the Teacher of Christian Believers, to teach God’s Word the Bible to them. Though the Holy Spirit wants to teach every Believer, but usually the Believers do not want to learn from Him, wanting to rely on learning from man instead. In the previous articles we have seen the reasons for Believers choosing to learn from imperfect, fallible men and get into erroneous teachings and false doctrines, rather than learning from the perfect infallible God the Holy Spirit.

    In the last article we had started to see how a Believer can learn from the Holy Spirit. We had seen from 1 Peter 2:1-2, that the first thing that the Believer has to do is prepare one’s heart to be a proper place for the Holy Spirit to live and work, by getting rid of the worldly attitude and behavior. We had also seen that the Believer has to do this himself, and not try to put it upon the Holy Spirit to be their substitute and fulfil their responsibility for them. The Holy Spirit as their helper and guide will help them, show them, teach them how to do this, but will not do it for them.

    Then, the second thing, as given in 1 Peter 2:1-2 is that the Believer needs to “desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” because his growth is dependent upon this. In other words, he should desire to have a discernment, and the attitude of accepting only what is pure from God’s Word. Peter says some very important things here, things that the Believers need to ponder over, to learn God’s Word from God.

    Firstly, within the Christian Believer there must be an inherent natural desire for receiving only the pure milk of the Word of God, and nothing else. The word used in the original Greek language, and translated as ‘desire’ means to have an intense craving, a possessiveness. What the Holy Spirit through Peter has stated here is that even as “newborn babes” the Believers are to intensely crave, to sincerely desire only for that which is the pure milk. They should not be satisfied with anything and everything served to them as ‘milk of the Word of God’ but have an understanding, a discernment between right and wrong, between correct and incorrect. Now, for a newly Born-Again Christian Believer, this seems to be an impossible task. One who hardly knows anything about God’s Word, how will he be able to figure out whether or not he is being given the “the pure milk of the word” or something adulterated?

    This is where the stewardship of the Holy Spirit i.e., the proper utilization of the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit comes into play. The Lord Jesus, in His Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 7:7 has said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” The Lord has made this statement at the beginning of His earthly ministry, to disciples who had recently started to follow Him, and were generally the common uneducated, simple folks. The Lord was teaching them that their faith in God and His providence when joined together, they will work wonders for them, but they have to be bold enough to ask God. The Believers often use and claim this verse when asking for temporal things from God, but how often and how many ask and claim this verse for learning God’s Word from God? How many ask God to keep them safe from wrong doctrines, false teachings, things of man’s wisdom and understanding, etc., when reading, or studying God’s Word, or listening to any message from any preacher or teacher?

    The sincere expressing of this desire by the Believers, and asking for God’s help and guidance for discernment to not be misled, to be kept safe from anything incorrect, will radically change their perception and bring about a great discernment in their learning God’s Word. They should also supplement this by making it a practice to cross-check from God’s Word (1 Thessalonians 5:21), before accepting anything from anyone, they should do as the Berean Believers did (Acts 17:11). These Berean Believers were not great scholars of God’s Word. Remember, this was the time of the first Church, the New Testament books and letters had not yet been fully written, Christian teachings were mainly oral, but still the Bereans cross-checked from the Scriptures whether what Paul was telling them about Christ from those Scriptures, to verify what Paul was saying was correct or not.

    This is the craving, the discernment that Christian Believers need to exhibit when studying, listening to, and learning God’s Word; to be helped and guided only into the correct and nothing incorrect. For those who ask for it and mean it, God the Holy Spirit will guide them into all truth (John 16:13), thereby keeping them safe from false teachings, wrong doctrines, and from the harm these bring. We will carry on from here in the next article, and see the other aspects mentioned in 1 Peter 2:1-2 about learning God’s Word from the Holy Spirit.

I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी में, उसके उद्धार पाने के क्षण से ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा निवास करने लगता है, उसे परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिया जाता है, कि मसीही जीवन को जीने तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई ज़िम्मेदारियों को भली-भाँति निभाने में उसका सहायक, साथी, शिक्षक, और मार्गदर्शक हो। पवित्र आत्मा का एक उद्देश्य है मसीही विश्वासियों को परमेश्वर का वचन, बाइबल को सिखाना; और परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए पवित्र आत्मा तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के भण्डारी होने के नाते, प्रत्येक विश्वासी को पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में, और परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखना है। यद्यपि लगभग प्रत्येक विश्वासी चाहता है कि ऐसा हो, लेकिन दुःख की बात है कि वास्तव में बहुत ही कम मसीही विश्वासी, उसके लिए आवश्यक प्रयास के द्वारा, इसे इच्छा से कार्य में परिवर्तित करते हैं। जिस प्रकार से मसीही जीवन एक लापरवाही से जिए जाने वाला आरामदेह जीवन नहीं है वरन उसमें यत्न से प्रयास करने पड़ते हैं; उसी प्रकार से पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने में भी न केवल यत्न से प्रयास, बल्कि साथ ही पवित्र आत्मा के प्रति एक अनुशासन, प्रतिबद्धता, और आज्ञाकारिता की आवश्यकता भी होती है। और क्योंकि अधिकाँश लोग यह करने के लिए तैयार नहीं होते हैं, इसलिए वे मनुष्यों और उनकी रचनाओं से सीखने का सरल मार्ग चुन लेते हैं, यह मानते हुए कि इस से भी बाइबल को उतनी ही अच्छे से सीखा जा सकेगा। क्योंकि कभी भी कोई भी मनुष्य बिना किसी त्रुटि का, अचूक, और सिद्ध नहीं होता है, इसलिए उनकी रचनाओं में भी यही त्रुटियाँ, चूक, और असिद्धता बनी रहती है, और दिखती रहती है। इसलिए जो विश्वासी मनुष्यों तथा उनकी रचनाओं से सीखने पर निर्भर बने रहते हैं, वे अपने आप को झूठी शिक्षाओं और गलत सिद्धान्तों में फँसने के जोखिम में डाले रहते हैं।

    हमने यूहन्ना 14:26 और यूहन्ना 16:14-15 से देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के सिखाने का तरीका है कि वह प्रभु के वचनों को विश्वासी को स्मरण करवाता है और उन्हीं वचनों में से लेकर उसे बताता है। इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने के लिए तीन बातों की आवश्यकता होती है, और तीनों को पूरा करने के लिए विश्वासी की ओर से समय और प्रयास आवश्यक है। ये तीन बातें हैं:

• पहली, विश्वासी के अंदर परमेश्वर के वचन का संग्रह या भण्डार होना चाहिए, जिस में से लेकर पवित्र आत्मा विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखी हुई बातों को याद दिलाएगा, और परिस्थिति के अनुसार उसे उपयुक्त वचन को लेकर बताएगा। इसलिए उसे परमेश्वर का वचन पढ़ते रहने और याद करने में समय बिताना चाहिए।

• दूसरा, विश्वासी को न केवल परमेश्वर के वचन को पढ़ने के लिए, बल्कि उसका अध्ययन भी करने के लिए उचित समय देना चाहिए। इसके लिए विश्वासी को परमेश्वर तथा उसके वचन को अपने जीवन में प्राथमिक स्थान देने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए, और पवित्र आत्मा के निर्देशों का पालन करने के लिए समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी भी रहना चाहिए।

• तीसरा, विश्वासियों को उन्हें मनुष्यों से मिली बाइबल से बाहर की शिक्षाओं को, जिन पर वे भरोसा करते आए हैं, पवित्र आत्मा से मिली शिक्षाओं के साथ मिलाना नहीं चाहिए। पवित्र आत्मा से मिलने वाली शिक्षाएँ हमेशा ही परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखे हुए के साथ पूर्णतः सहमत और संगत होंगी; जबकि मनुष्यों की शिक्षाओं में बाइबल के साथ असंगतियों और बाइबल से बाहर की व्याख्याओं को देखा जा सकता है।

    एक बार फिर, अधिकाँश विश्वासी इन तीन आवश्यकताओं को पूरा नहीं करने पाते हैं, और इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने नहीं पाते हैं। पिछले कुछ लेखों में हमने इन तीनों बातों को कुछ विस्तार से देखा है। आज से हम वह देखना आरंभ करेंगे जो परमेश्वर का वचन सीखने के लिए विश्वासी को करना चाहिए, एक बार जब वह पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने का निर्णय ले लेता है, प्रतिबद्ध हो जाता है।

    परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने की इच्छा रखने वालों को पहला काम करना है अपने अंदर से साँसारिक रवैये और व्यवहार को निकाल कर परमेश्वर के वचन के ‘निर्मल आत्मिक दूध’ की लालसा रखनी है, “इसलिये सब प्रकार का बैर भाव और छल और कपट और डाह और बदनामी को दूर करके। नये जन्मे हुए बच्‍चों के समान निर्मल आत्मिक दूध की लालसा करो, ताकि उसके द्वारा उद्धार पाने के लिये बढ़ते जाओ” (1पतरस 2:1-2 )। हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:3 से देखा है कि “बैर भाव और छल और कपट और डाह और बदनामी” विश्वासी की अपरिपक्वता, उस के अभी भी बच्चा ही होने के चिह्न हैं; और इसके कि वह आधारभूत बातों, आरंभिक शिक्षाओं से आगे नहीं बढ़ेगा, और उसे कुछ अधिक नहीं सिखाया जा सकता है। इसलिए, अधिक तथा बेहतर सीखने के लिए, विश्वासी को शरीर की इन बातों को अपने में से निकाल बाहर करना होगा।

    ध्यान दीजिए, पतरस यह नहीं लिख रहा है कि “परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करो कि वह इन बातों को तुम्हारे जीवन में से निकाल दे” जैसा कि वे लोग जो बाइबल की बातों की बाइबल से बाहर व्याख्या करते हैं, कहना और प्रार्थना करना सिखाते हैं। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखते हुए, पतरस मसीही विश्वासी पर ही यह करने की ज़िम्मेदारी रखता है; उन्हें ही प्रयास कर के इन बातों को निकाल बाहर करना है। पौलुस ने अपने जीवन के उदाहरण से दिखाया कि यह कैसे करना है, “परन्तु मैं अपनी देह को मारता कूटता, और वश में लाता हूं; ऐसा न हो कि औरों को प्रचार कर के, मैं आप ही किसी रीति से निकम्मा ठहरूं” (1कुरिन्थियों 9:27)। पौलुस यहाँ यह नहीं कह रहा है कि वह परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करता है कि वह उसकी देह को वश में लाए; वरन वह स्वयं इसे करता है। पौलुस ने यही बात तीमुथियुस को भी सिखाई, “तौभी परमेश्वर की पड़ी नेव बनी रहती है, और उस पर यह छाप लगी है, कि प्रभु अपनों को पहचानता है; और जो कोई प्रभु का नाम लेता है, वह अधर्म से बचा रहे। बड़े घर में न केवल सोने-चान्दी ही के, पर काठ और मिट्टी के बरतन भी होते हैं; कोई कोई आदर, और कोई कोई अनादर के लिये। यदि कोई अपने आप को इन से शुद्ध करेगा, तो वह आदर का बरतन, और पवित्र ठहरेगा; और स्‍वामी के काम आएगा, और हर भले काम के लिये तैयार होगा” (2 तीमुथियुस 2:19-21)। प्रमुख कर के ज़ोर दी गई बातों पर ध्यान दीजिए – परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षा यही है कि स्वयं विश्वासियों को ही यह कार्य करना है। बाइबल में कहीं ऐसा कोई उदाहरण नहीं है जहाँ परमेश्वर ने किसी से उसकी ज़िम्मेदारी को लेकर उसके लिए उसे पूरा कर के दिया है।

    परमेश्वर ने विश्वासियों को यह करने के लिए उपयुक्त सँसाधन दिए हैं, और उन्हें अपना पवित्र आत्मा दिया है कि उनकी सहायता और मार्गदर्शन करे। लेकिन वे अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी को वापस परमेश्वर को पकड़ा कर निश्चिंत होकर नहीं बैठ सकते हैं कि अब परमेश्वर ले लेगा और इसे पूरा कर देगा। यदि परमेश्वर इस प्रकार की प्रार्थनाओं को स्वीकार कर के उन से उनके कार्य को ले ले, तो फिर उसका वचन त्रुटिपूर्ण हो जाएगा – वह कहता कुछ है, और कर के कुछ और ही देता है। साथ ही यह 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:13 की प्रतिज्ञा को झूठा ठहरा देगा, तथा यह अभिप्राय देगा कि परमेश्वर सर्वज्ञानी, सिद्ध, और त्रुटि रहित नहीं है, क्योंकि उसने अपने बच्चे पर कुछ ऐसा आ लेने दिया जो उस बच्चे के सहने की क्षमता से बाहर है, और अब उस बच्चे को परेशानी छुड़ाने के लिए परमेश्वर को स्वयं इस काम को करना पड़ रहा है। इस प्रकार की गलत शिक्षाओं द्वारा बहकाया गया विश्वासी जितना अधिक समय बाइबल के बाहर की गढ़ी हुई धारणाओं में बना रहेगा, वह अपनी आशीषों की उतनी ही अधिक हानि उठाएगा, और पवित्र आत्मा से उतना ही कम सीखेगा और उन्नति करेगा।

    हम इसके बारे में अगले लेख में ज़ारी रखेंगे और उन्नति करने के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन रूपी निर्मल आत्मिक दूध की लालसा रखने के बारे में सीखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Learning from the Holy Spirit – 10

 

    Every Born-Again Christian Believer has God the Holy Spirit residing in him since the moment of his salvation, given to him by God, to be his Helper, Companion, Teacher, and Guide, for living his Christian life and being able to worthily fulfil his God assigned ministry. One of the purposes of the Holy Spirit is to teach the Believer the Word of God, the Bible; and as stewards of the God given Holy Spirit and of the Word of God, ever Believer is to learn about the Holy Spirit and learn the Word of God. Though practically ever Believer may desire this to happen, but, sadly, hardly any Christian Believer actually puts the desire into practice, by putting in the effort required to learn from Him. Just as Christian life is not an easy-going life of casual living, but requires diligent efforts; similarly, learning from the Holy Spirit not only requires a diligent effort, but also a discipline, commitment, and obedience towards Him. Something, which people usually are unwilling to do. Therefore, they take the easy way out of assuming that they can equally well learn the Bible from men and their works. Since no man is ever inerrant, infallible, and perfect, therefore their works and their output also carries this same tendency of being error prone, fallible, and imperfect that keeps becoming evident now and then. Those Believers who rely on learning from men and their works therefore render themselves prone to falling into erroneous teachings and wrong doctrines.

    We had seen from John 14:26 and John 16:14-15, the way the Holy Spirit teaches is by bringing the Lord’s Words to remembrance of the Believers and taking those Words and declaring them to the Believers. Therefore, learning from the Holy Spirit requires three things, and fulfilling these three requires time and effort on the part of the Believer. These three things are:

• First, the Believer should have a ‘stock’ or repository of God’s Word in him, for the Holy Spirit to be able to bring things written in God’s Word to the Believer’s remembrance, to take them up from within him and declare them to him as per the situation. Therefore, he must spend time reading and memorizing God’s Word.

• Second, the Believer’s should give adequate time to not only just read, but also to study God’s Word. For this, the Believer must be committed to give God and His Word the priority in his life, and be surrendered to follow and obey the instructions of the Holy Spirit.

• Third, the Believers should not mix up man’s unBiblical teachings that they have received and have been relying upon, with the teachings given by the Holy Spirit to them. The Holy Spirit’s teachings will always be completely consistent with what has been written in God’s Word; whereas man’s teachings might have inconsistencies and unBiblical interpretations.

    Once again, most Believers falter on these three requirements, and therefore are unable to learn from the Holy Spirit. In the previous few articles we have considered these three things in some detail. From today, we will start looking at what the Believer needs to do, once he commits himself to learning from the Holy Spirit, and decide to put in the required diligent effort.

    The first thing that those who want to learn from God the Holy Spirit need to do is get rid of their worldly attitude and behavior, and develop a sincere desire for ‘the pure milk of the Word of God’ “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:1-2). We have seen from 1 Corinthians 3:3 that things like “malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking” are all indicators of immaturity, of the Believer still being a child, and that he will not progress beyond the basics, the elementary principles; not much can be taught to him. Therefore, to learn more and better, the Believer has to take out from within him the tendencies of the flesh.

    Notice that Peter does not say “pray to God to remove these things from your life” as those who preach and teach unBiblical interpretations and applications of Biblical terms say and do. Writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Peter puts the responsibility upon the Believers to do this; it is they who are to make efforts to lay these things aside. Paul showed how to do this from his own life, “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:27). Paul does not say here that he prays to God to discipline his body; rather it is he who does it. Paul taught the same to Timothy, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Timothy 2:19-21). Take note of the emphasized portions – the teachings from God’s Word are that the Believers must do this themselves. There is no example in the Bible of God ever having taken over from someone to fulfil their responsibility for them.

    God has given Believers the necessary resources for it, and has given the Holy Spirit to help and guide them in doing this. But they cannot hand their responsibility back to God, and be content that now God will take over and do it for them. If God were to answer such prayers and take over from them, then His Word will become erroneous – He has said one thing, and is willing to do another. It will falsify the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13, and imply that God is not omniscient, perfect, and inerrant, since He has let something beyond His child’s capacity to come upon him, and therefore, now to deliver His child from troubles, God Himself must step in. The longer the misguided Believers carry on in their unBiblical assumptions, the more loss they will suffer of their blessings and the less they will learn and grow through the Holy Spirit.
