मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराना – 8
इब्रानियों 6:1-2 से हमारे आरंभिक बातों के अध्ययन में, वर्तमान में हम पहली बात, अर्थात, मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराने पर विचार कर रहे हैं; अर्थात उन कामों से मन फिराने पर जिन के कारण उन्हें करने वालों के जीवनों में कोई आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी या परिपक्वता नहीं होती है। पिछले दो लेखों में हमने दो बहुत सामान्य गलत धारणाओं के बारे में देखा है, जिनका प्रचार और शिक्षा कुछ मत और डिनॉमिनेशन बहुत बल देकर करते हैं। ये उन की वे झूठी शिक्षाएँ और गलत सिद्धान्त हैं जिन्हें ये लोग विश्वासियों द्वारा परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करने, और “अन्य भाषा” में बोलने के बारे में बताते और सिखाते हैं। हमने देखा है कि उनकी इन दोनों बातों को स्वीकार्य बनाने के लिए बाइबल से उन्हें कोई समर्थन नहीं है। इसी प्रकार की एक अन्य सम्बन्धित गलत धारणा, जिसका ये लोग बहुत बल देकर प्रचार करते हैं, पवित्र आत्मा के बपतिस्मे से संबंधित है। लेकिन जिस स्वरूप में वे इसका प्रचार करते, इसे बल देकर सिखाते हैं, उसका भी बाइबल में कोई समर्थन नहीं है। हम इसके बारे में अभी नहीं देखेंगे, किन्तु तीसरी आरंभिक बात, ‘बपतिस्मों’ के अध्ययन के समय इस पर विचार करेंगे। आज हम एक अन्य प्रकार के मरे हुए काम पर विचार करेंगे, जो विश्वासियों द्वारा अपने जीवनों में प्रभु को आदर देने से सम्बन्धित है।
हम लूका 10:38-42 में एक घटना को देखते हैं, जिस में मारथा नामक एक महिला अपने घर में प्रभु यीशु का स्वागत करती है। मारथा की एक बहन भी थी जिसका नाम मरियम था। हम इस परिवार को फिर से यूहन्ना 11 अध्याय में भी देखते हैं, जहाँ लाजर के जिलाए जाने की घटना दर्ज की गई है। यहाँ से हम दो और बातों को सीखते हैं, कि मारथा और मरियम का लाजर नामक एक भाई भी था और प्रभु यीशु इस परिवार से प्रेम करता था (यूहन्ना 11:5), तथा यह परिवार बैतनिय्याह का रहने वाला था। हम लूका 10:38 के आरंभिक वाक्य में लिखे “वे” से देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु कुछ लोगों के साथ जा रहा था, बहुत संभव है वे उसके बारह शिष्य रहे होंगे; और मारथा ने प्रभु को अपने घर आने का न्यौता दिया था। मेज़बान होने के नाते मारथा उनकी सेवा कर रही थी, इसलिए प्रभु के साथ समय नहीं बिता पा रही थी (पद 40)। किन्तु उसकी बहन मरियम, प्रभु की सेवा और देखभाल की चिन्ता करने के बजाए, प्रभु के पाँवों के पास बैठकर उस से उसका वचन सुन रही थी (पद 39)। जैसा कि हम पद 40 से देखते हैं, थोड़े समय के बाद मरियम जो कर रही थी – बस प्रभु के पाँवों के पास बैठकर उसका वचन सुनना, उससे मारथा खिसिया गई, और उसने अपनी खिसियाहट अपने मेहमान प्रभु यीशु पर उतार दी। मारथा ने प्रभु की आलोचना की, कि वह उसकी आवश्यकताओं और चिन्ताओं पर ध्यान नहीं दे रहा है, प्रभु पर कुछ क्रोधित हुई कि उसने मरियम से उसकी सहायता करने के लिए नहीं कहा है।
किन्तु जैसा हम पद 41-42 से देखते हैं, मारथा के प्रति प्रभु का प्रत्युत्तर धैर्य और प्रेम के साथ था। वह मारथा को कुछ भी बुरा नहीं कहता है; वह उसके द्वारा उनके लिए बहुत सी बातें करने के उसके प्रयासों को स्वीकार करता है, लेकिन प्रभु उसे यह भी कहता है कि उसने प्रभु के आदर में जो बहुत कुछ करने का निर्णय लिया है, उन बातों से उसे केवल चिन्ता और घबराहट ही मिली है। इसकी तुलना में, मरियम ने केवल एक ही बात करना चुना, कि वह प्रभु के पांवों पर बैठे और उसकी बातों को सुने; और प्रभु ने उसकी इस बात की सराहना की। प्रभु का ध्यान रखने और उसकी देखभाल करने के लिए मारथा ने जो तरीका चुना था, उसकी तुलना में, मरियम द्वारा चुने गए तरीके को प्रभु ने आवश्यक कहा, उसे भला बताया, और आश्वस्त किया कि वह उससे कभी नहीं लिया जाएगा। दोनों ही बहनें प्रभु से प्रेम करती थीं और प्रभु भी दोनों से प्रेम करता था; किन्तु दोनों ने प्रभु के प्रति प्रेम और देखभाल को व्यक्त करने के अपने-अपने तरीके चुने थे। मरियम के तरीके की सराहना करते हुए प्रभु ने यह नहीं कहा कि केवल मरियम वास्तव में उसका ध्यान रखना और देखभाल करना चाहती थी, न कि मारथा। किन्तु यह स्पष्ट प्रकट है कि प्रभु ने मरियम के तरीके को पसंद किया, उसका अनुमोदन किया, उसे ही आवश्यक, भला, और चिर-स्थाई कहा; साथ ही यह भी दिखाया कि मरियम के तरीके से चिन्ता और घबराहट ही होंगे।
हम यहाँ पर प्रभु के प्रति प्रेम को व्यक्त करने, उसे आदर देने, के दो तरीकों को देखते हैं। मारथा का तरीका अनुमानित कार्यों के द्वारा व्यक्त करने का है; बहुत सारे काम करने का, प्रभु के लिए ऐसी बहुत सारी बातों में संलग्न होने का, जिनके द्वारा संभवतः प्रभु प्रसन्न होगा। लेकिन उसके द्वारा इन अनुमान लगा कर किए गए कार्यों ने उसे प्रभु के साथ बैठने और उसकी बातें सुनने के लिए समय और यह लालसा नहीं दी, कि प्रभु से सीखे कि उसे क्या पसन्द है, और फिर उसके अनुसार कार्य करे। मारथा ने जो किया, अधिकाँश मसीही भी वही करते हैं; बात प्रभु के प्रति उनके प्रेम और प्रतिबद्धता की नहीं है, किन्तु समस्या है कि वे उसके प्रति अपने प्रेम को किस तरह से व्यक्त करते हैं, और उनके प्रयासों के प्रत्युत्तर में उन्हें क्या मिलता है। अनुमान लगाकर कार्यों को करने का मारथा का तरीका यद्यपि आवश्यक और भला प्रतीत हो सकता है, किन्तु उसमें एक बहुत बड़ी कमी है, कि इस तरीके को अपना कर काम करने वाले के पास प्रभु के साथ बैठने, उसकी सुनने, उसकी इच्छा को जानने, और फिर उस के अनुसार कुछ करने के लिए समय नहीं होता है। इस तरीके से काम करने वालों की यही पूर्व-धारणा रहती है, तथा वे यही चाहते हैं कि वे जो कुछ भी करें उसे प्रभु स्वीकार कर ले, पसन्द कर ले। इसकी तुलना में मरियम का तरीका बहुत साधारण और निष्क्रिय प्रतीत होता है, लेकिन प्रभु इसी तरीके को चाहता है – कि लोग उसके पाँवों के पास बैठें, उससे सुनें, उससे सीखें, और उस से वे बातें प्राप्त करें जो कभी भी उन लोगों से ली नहीं जाएंगी, अर्थात मसीही विश्वासी के साथ अनन्तकाल तक बनी रहेंगी। मसीही विश्वासी के लिए, मरियम का तरीका है परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के साथ समय बिताना – बाइबल के बारे में, या उससे सम्बन्धित सामग्री को पढ़ना नहीं, वरन बाइबल ही को पढ़ना। प्रभु को, वचन में होकर, बात करने का समय देना, उस पर मनन करना, उसके बारे में विचार करना, और प्रभु ने जो सिखाया है उन निर्देशों को अपने जीवन में लागू करना।
प्रभु के पाँवों पर समय बिताना, उसके वचन में होकर उससे सीखना, उसके वचन को अपने में बने रहने देना, न तो समय की बरबादी है, और न ही निष्क्रिय होकर रहना है – यह सब करने के लिए, किसी भी कार्य से अधिक अनुशासन, प्रयास, और संयम चाहिए होता है, और यही प्रभु से प्रेम करने का प्रमाण भी है (1 यूहन्ना 2:3-5)। इस अनुशासन को बनाए रखने के साथ बड़ी प्रतिज्ञाएँ और लाभ जुड़े हुए हैं। जो लोग इस में बने रहते हैं: वे नया बल पाते जाएँगे, कभी थकित नहीं होंगे, उकाबों के सामान उड़ेंगे (यशायाह 40:31); परमेश्वर पिता और प्रभु उन से प्रेम करेंगे, और आ कर उनके साथ निवास करेंगे (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23); प्रभु की प्रतिज्ञा है कि वह उनकी इच्छाओं को पूरा करेगा (यूहन्ना 15:7); और वे उसके प्रेम में बने रहेंगे (यूहन्ना 15:10)। इसलिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को स्वयं का आँकलन कर के यह सुनिश्चित कर लेना चाहिए कि उसके जीवन में परमेश्वर के वचन का क्या स्थान है, वह व्यक्तिगत रीति से परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करने और सीखने में कितना समय लगाता है, और अपनी कितनी कमियों को ठीक करता है। जैसा कि प्रभु ने स्वयं कहा है, अनुमानित कार्यों के द्वारा प्रभु को प्रसन्न करने का तरीका अन्ततः केवल चिन्ताओं और घबराहट ही को उत्पन्न करेगा; वह व्यर्थ और निष्फल है – एक प्रकार के मरे हुए काम है जिन से मन फिराने और जिन्हें निकाल फेंकने की आवश्यकता है। प्रभु के पाँवों पर बैठकर परमेश्वर के वचन को पढ़ने, अध्ययन करने, सीखने, और उसे अपने जीवन में लागू करने का मरियम का तरीका ही विश्वासियों को लाभ पहुँचाएगा, और उसी का पालन किया जाना चाहिए; किन्तु उस में बहुत अनुशासन, लगन, संयम की आवश्यकता है क्योंकि शैतान भरसक प्रयत्न करेगा कि मसीही विश्वासी को ऐसा न करने दे।
अगले लेख में हम एक अन्य प्रकार के मारे हुए काम के उदाहरण को देखेंगे, मसीही विश्वासी के मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करने वाले बन जाना।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Repentance From Dead Works - 8
In our study of Elementary Principles from Hebrews 6:1-2, we are presently considering the first principle, i.e., repentance from dead works; i.e., repentance from those seemingly religious and good works, that do not cause any spiritual growth or maturity in the person doing them. In the past two article we have seen two very common misconceptions, that are quite emphatically preached and taught by some sects and denominations. They are the false teachings and wrong doctrines regarding Believers receiving God the Holy Spirit, and about speaking in “Tongues.” We have seen that both do not have any Biblical support to make them acceptable. There is another similarly very emphatically preached and taught misconception about Holy Spirit baptism, which again does not have any Biblical standing or support for the form it is preached, taught, and emphasized; we will not consider it now but will take it up when we are learning about the third elementary principle, i.e., baptisms. Today we will consider another kind of dead works, that of Believers honoring the Lord in their lives.
In Luke 10:38-42 we have an incidence where the Lord Jesus is welcomed into a house, by a lady named Martha. Martha also had a sister, named Mary. We see this family again later on in John 11, in the incidence of raising of Lazarus from the dead, and from there we learn two more things, that Martha and Mary also had a brother named Lazarus and Jesus loved this family (John 11:5), and this family belonged to Bethany. We note from the “they” in the opening sentence of Luke 10:38 that quite likely the Lord was travelling with some other people, probably His twelve disciples; and that it was Martha who invited the Lord into their house. As the hostess, Martha was distracted from spending time with the Lord and got busy preparing for and serving the Lord (v.40). But her sister Mary, instead of helping Martha, simply sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to Him (v.39), not worrying about caring for and serving the Lord. After sometime, as we see from v.40, Martha got irritated with what Mary was doing – simply sitting at the Lord’s feet and listening to Him, instead of helping her in taking care of and serving the Lord, and her irritation spilled over onto her guest, the Lord Jesus. She is critical Him of not caring for her needs and concerns, and expresses her annoyance, for not asking Mary to help her.
But the Lord, as we see in vs. 41-42, responds lovingly and patiently towards Martha. He does not discredit her; He acknowledges her efforts at doing many things for caring for Him and looking after Him, but the Lord also points out that what she has chosen to do for honoring Him has only caused worries and trouble for her. In contrast, Mary chose to do only one thing, i.e., sit at the Lord’s feet and listen to Him; and the Lord commends her for it. In contrast to what the Lord had to say about Martha’s way of expressing her care and concern for the Lord, the Lord calls Mary’s way as one that was needed or necessary, calls it the good part, and assures that it will not be taken away from her. Both sisters loved the Lord and the Lord too loved them both; both had chosen their own ways to express their care and concern for the Lord. Though approving Mary’s way, the Lord does not say that only Mary, not Martha, actually cared Him. But quite evidently, the Lord preferred and approved Mary’s way, calling it good, necessary, and everlasting; while pointing out that Martha’s way will only lead to worries and troubles.
We see here two ways of honoring the Lord, of expressing care and love for the Lord. Martha’s way is to express it through presumptive efforts, by doing many activities, many things for the Lord, that she thought would please the Lord. But her being involved in these self-determined activities did not give her the time and desire to sit and listen to the Lord, to know from Him, what pleased Him and then do accordingly. What Martha did is what most Christian Believers also do; their love and commitment towards the Lord is not in question, but the problem is in the way they express their love towards Him, and the returns they get for their efforts. Martha’s way of presumptive activities, though seemingly necessary and good, have a big drawback, of not letting the one engaged in the activities have time to sit and listen to the Lord, first know His will, and then act according to it. Those who work in this manner presume and want that whatever they do must be accepted and liked by the Lord. In contrast Mary’s way seems to be quite passive and ordinary, but it is the way the Lord likes and wants – to sit at His feet, to listen to Him, to learn from Him, and receive from Him things that will never be taken away, i.e., will be everlasting. For the Christian Believer, Mary’s way is to spend time in God’s Word the Bible – not reading about it or reading books related to it and its teachings, but the Bible itself. Allowing time for the Lord to speak through His Word, to meditate and ponder over what He teaches, apply the Lord’s instructions in their life.
Spending time at the Lord’s feet, learning from Him through His Word, letting God’s word abide in them, is neither a waste of time, nor something passive – it requires much higher discipline, effort, and perseverance than physical activities, and it is the proof of loving the Lord (1 John 2:3-5). There are great promises and benefits associated with maintaining this discipline. Those who do so: they will renew their strength, never be tired, but rise like eagles (Isaiah 40:31); they will be loved by God the Father and the Lord, who will come and abide with them (John 14:21, 23); the Lord has promised to fulfil their desires (John 15:7), and they will abide in His love (John 15:10). Therefore, every Christian Believer needs to evaluate the place God’s Word has in his life, how much time does he personally spend in studying and learning from God’s Word, and rectify the shortcomings. As the Lord Himself has said, Martha’s way of trying to please the Lord through presumed activities will eventually only lead to worries and troubles; it is vain and fruitless – a kind of dead works that need to be repented of and cast away. Mary’s way of spending time at the Lord’s feet, i.e., reading, studying, learning, and applying God’s Word is what will benefit the Believers and needs to be followed, and it requires a lot of discipline and perseverance since Satan will try his utmost to keep the Believers from doing this.
In the next article we will look at another kind of dead work, of Believers becoming man-pleasers.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
