शिक्षक पवित्र आत्मा - यूहन्ना 14:26

हम प्रभु यीशु मसीह के सच्चे, आज्ञाकारी, और समर्पित शिष्य द्वारा उसकी मसीही सेवकाई में सहायता और मार्गदर्शन के लिए परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की भूमिका का अध्ययन कर रहे हैं, जो कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी में, उसके उद्धार पाते ही, तुरंत ही आकर निवास करने लगता है। हमने देखा है कि पवित्र आत्मा की यह भूमिका दो प्रकार की है, विश्वासी के व्यक्तिगत जीवन में, जो यूहन्ना 14 अध्याय में दी गई है; और उसकी सेवकाई के जीवन में, जो यूहन्ना 16 अध्याय में दी गई है। हम व्यक्तिगत जीवन में भूमिका को यूहन्ना 14:16-17 पदों से देख चुके हैं कि एक बार विश्वासी में आ जाने के बाद वह सर्वदा मसीही विश्वासियों के साथ आजीवन बना रहता है, मसीही जीवन के निर्वाह के लिए उनका सहायक होता है, सेवक नहीं। उसे किसी मनुष्य के प्रयास, विधियों, अथवा युक्तियों द्वारा प्राप्त नहीं किया जाता है, वरन परमेश्वर द्वारा स्वेच्छा से प्रदान किया जाता है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है, कोई भी सांसारिक व्यक्ति, वह चाहे कितना भी “धर्मी” क्यों न हो, उसे ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता है; वह केवल वास्तविक मसीही विश्वासियों में ही रहता है। आज हम मसीही विश्वासी के व्यक्तिगत जीवन में परमेश्वर का वचन सीखने से संबंधित परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की भूमिका को देखेंगे।

 

प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने फसह के पर्व के भोज के समय में अपने शिष्यों से चर्चा करते समय उनसे परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय, जिसे वे निकट भविष्य में प्राप्त करने वाले थे, आगे कहा, “परन्तु सहायक अर्थात पवित्र आत्मा जिसे पिता मेरे नाम से भेजेगा, वह तुम्हें सब बातें सिखाएगा, और जो कुछ मैं ने तुम से कहा है, वह सब तुम्हें स्मरण कराएगा” (यूहन्ना 14:26)। इस पद से हम परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा (जिसे, जैसा कि यहाँ भी लिखा गया है, कोई मनुष्य नहीं वरन पिता परमेश्वर ही प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों में भेजेगा), द्वारा मसीही विश्वासी को प्रभु का वचन सिखाने की कार्य-विधि को देखते हैं:

• “वह तुम्हें सब बातें सिखाएगा” - पवित्र आत्मा ही 'तुम्हें' अर्थात प्रभु के शिष्यों को सब बातें सिखाता है। अर्थात वह बिना किसी भेदभाव या पक्षपात के सभी शिष्यों को समानता से प्रभु की सभी बातें सिखाने के लिए है। ध्यान कीजिए यहाँ यह नहीं कहा गया है कि जो शिष्य अलग से कोई कार्य करेंगे या कोई रीति पूरी करेंगे उन्हें सिखाएगा; या उससे मिलने वाली वचन की यह शिक्षा कुछ विशेष चुने हुए शिष्यों ही के लिए है, अन्य के लिए नहीं। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु के हर शिष्य को सभी बातें सिखाएगा। सीखना परिश्रम से, बारंबार अध्ययन करने और परस्पर चर्चा करने से ही होता है; पुस्तक हाथ में पकड़ लेने या उसका सिरहाना बना लेने, या लापरवाही से कभी-कभार पढ़ लेने से सीखना नहीं हो सकता है। बारंबार पढ़ना, लिखी बातों का पालन करना, दिए गए अभ्यास को करके शिक्षक को दिखाना और उसकी जाँच करवाना होता है। सीखना एक प्रक्रिया है, जिसका निर्वाह करना आवश्यक है; और इसके लिए पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासियों का शिक्षक है। सीखने में विद्यार्थियों द्वारा गलतियाँ होती हैं, उनके कार्य में कमी रह जाती है। तब शिक्षक उन गलतियों को सुधार कर संबंधित अध्ययन और निर्धारित कार्य को पुनः करने को देता है। इसमें समय और सतत प्रयास की आवश्यकता होती है; किन्तु इस प्रक्रिया से निकले बिना सीखना नहीं होने पाता है। ठीक इसी प्रक्रिया का निर्वाह पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सामर्थ्य से परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन और मसीही सेवकाई से संबंधित बाइबल में दिए गए परमेश्वर के निर्देशों के पालन करने में भी किया जाता है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासी में निवास करता है, और जब तक वह विश्वासी उसके साथ सहयोग करता है, उसका आज्ञाकारी रहता है, पवित्र आत्मा उसका मार्गदर्शन करता है, उसे सिखाता है, सुधारता है, सक्षम तथा उन्नत करता रहता है। 

• “जो कुछ मैं ने तुम से कहा है, वह सब तुम्हें स्मरण कराएगा” - आज बहुत से मत और डिनॉमिनेशंस में यह गलत शिक्षा और व्यवहार बहुत आम है कि उनके अनुयायी ये दावे करते हैं कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा ने कुछ विशिष्ट कहा है, या उन्हें कोई नई शिक्षा दी है, या उन्हें कोई नया दर्शन मिला है - ऐसी बातें और भविष्यवाणियाँ जो बाइबल में नहीं दी गई हैं, जिन्हें न प्रभु यीशु ने और न ही उनके शिष्यों अथवा प्रेरितों, या वचन की पुस्तकें लिखने वालों ने कहा और लिखा है। उनकी इन बातों से प्रभावित होकर बहुत से लोग भी ऐसे अनुभवों की लालसाएं करने लगते हैं, उनके समान करने के प्रयासों में लग जाते हैं। जबकि यह विचार, व्यवहार, और शिक्षा बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है, सर्वथा अनुचित और गलत है। आज हमारे हाथों में जो परमेश्वर का वचन है वह अधूरा नहीं संपूर्ण है; हर स्थान, समय, और सभ्यता के लिए, सभी लोगों को जीवन और भक्ति से संबंधित सब कुछ सिखाने, संसार की सड़ाहट से बचाने, और ईश्वरीय स्वभाव का संभागी बनाने के लिए पर्याप्त है (2 पतरस 1:2-4)। उसमें और कुछ भी नया जोड़ने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। वचन में चेतावनी है कि जो भी इसमें कुछ जोड़ेगा, या इस में से कुछ निकालेगा, उसे यह करने के लिए परमेश्वर के दंड का भागी होना पड़ेगा (व्यवस्थाविवरण 12:32; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)। इस पद में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने स्पष्ट कहा है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की शिक्षा का तरीका केवल प्रभु द्वारा कही गई बातों को स्मरण करवाने का; उनके आधार पर सिखाने का है; इससे अतिरिक्त या इससे पृथक नहीं। प्रभु यीशु ने यह नहीं कहा कि वह अपनी ओर से शिष्यों को कोई नई शिक्षाएं, कोई नए दर्शन देगा, स्थापित वचन में अपने द्वारा कोई नई बात जोड़ेगा। इसकी पुष्टि में, प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपनी महान आज्ञा में, अपने स्वर्गारोहण के समय शिष्यों से कहा कि वे जाकर और शिष्य बनाएं, तथा जो शिष्य बनते हैं उन्हें प्रभु यीशु की बातें सिखाएं (मत्ती 28:18-20); न कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा नई शिक्षाएं, नए दर्शन और नई भविष्यवाणियाँ प्राप्त करने के लिए लालसा, परिश्रम, और प्रयास करने वाले बनना सिखाएं। 

तात्पर्य यह है कि पहले प्रभु की बातों को पढ़ो और मन में बसाओ (कुलुस्सियों 3:16)। जो और जितना मन में बसा हुआ है, पवित्र आत्मा उसे ही स्मरण करवाने के द्वारा सिखाएगा। इस पद से कुछ ऊपर यूहन्ना 14:21, 23 में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने शिष्यों से कहा कि जो उसके वचन से प्रेम करता है, वही है जो वास्तविकता में प्रभु से प्रेम करता है, और प्रभु तथा पिता परमेश्वर ऐसे प्रेम करने वालों के साथ रहते हैं। यदि वचन अधिकाई से मन में बस हुआ होगा तो स्मरण करवाने और सिखाने के लिए अधिक सामग्री होगी, बेहतर सीखने पाएंगे। यदि वचन मन में कम होगा तो पवित्र आत्मा के पास स्मरण करवाने और सिखाने के लिए कम सामग्री होगी, और कम ही सीखने पाएंगे। जिस शिष्य ने वचन जितना अधिक अपने मन में बसा रखा है, समय, परिस्थिति, तथा आवश्यकता के अनुसार परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को उसे उतना अधिक और अच्छा सिखाने, तथा उपयोग करवाने का अवसर रहेगा।

 

इसीलिए, यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर के वचन, बाइबल को अपने जीवन में प्राथमिकता दीजिए। वचन को केवल औपचारिकता निभाते हुए पढ़ने वाले ही नहीं, वरन लगन एवं गंभीरता से वचन का अध्ययन तथा पालन करने वाले बनिए। मसीही विश्वासी के अंदर निवास करने वाला पवित्र आत्मा प्रत्येक विश्वासी को वचन सिखाने के लिए ही दिया गया है। यदि आप उसके साथ मिलकर प्रयास और परिश्रम करने के लिए तैयार हैं तो वह अवश्य ही आपको भी सिखाएगा क्योंकि वह तो सभी को सिखाना चाहता है और सभी मसीही विश्वासियों को सिखाता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:10-15; 2 तिमुथियुस 3:16-17)।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो थोड़ा थम कर विचार कीजिए, क्या मसीही विश्वास के अतिरिक्त आपको कहीं और यह अद्भुत और विलक्षण आशीषों से भरा सौभाग्य प्राप्त होगा, कि स्वयं परमेश्वर आप में आ कर सर्वदा के लिए निवास करे; आपको अपना वचन सिखाए; फिर आप में होकर अपने आप को औरों पर प्रकट करे, अपने अद्भुत कार्य करे, जिससे आपको आशीषों से भर सके? इसलिए अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करके, उनके लिए प्रभु से क्षमा माँगकर, अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आप अपने पापों के अंगीकार और पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से समर्पण की प्रार्थना कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए मेरे सभी पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” प्रभु की शिष्यता तथा मन परिवर्तन के लिए सच्चे पश्चाताप और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Holy Spirit as Teacher - John 14:26

We are studying the role, help, and guidance provided by the Holy Spirit in the life of a true, obedient, and committed disciple of Christ Jesus, for his life and Christian ministry. We have seen that the Holy Spirit comes to reside in every Believer, the moment his is saved, is Born-Again; and the Holy Spirit has two kinds of roles in the Believer’s life as given by the Lord Jesus in His discourse in John chapter 14 and 16. In John 14 we see the role of the Holy Spirit in the personal life of the Believer; and in John 16 is given the role in the life of a Believer’s ministry. We have seen from John 14:16-17 about His role in a Believer’s personal life, that - He is freely and willingly given by God to His Believers, and is not obtained through any human efforts or methods; having once come to reside in a Believer, the Holy Spirit remains in and with him for life; is the Believer’s helper in living out his life of Christian faith, and not his servant or substitute. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth; He never comes to reside in any worldly or unsaved person - no matter how religious or good that person may be and whatever efforts he may make to have the Holy Spirit; He only resides in and stays with the actual Christian Believers. Today, we will see the role of the Holy Spirit related to a Christian Believer learning the Word of God.

During the Passover feast, while telling them about the Holy Spirit, whom they were going to receive in the near future, the Lord Jesus further stated, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). Here, in this verse, we see two main things. Firstly, it is reiterated that the Holy Spirit is sent by God, i.e., He does not come through any man, but only when and to whom God sends Him. Secondly, this verse tells us the method a Christian Believer learns the Word of God through the Holy Spirit. The way the Holy Spirit teaches God’s people, God’s Word is:

• “He will teach you all things” - The Lord Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit will teach “you all things” i.e., those who are the disciples of Christ Jesus. Implied in this statement is that all of the disciples will be taught similarly, without any discrimination, all the things. This is very important to take note of; pay attention that the Lord has not said that those disciples who do some extra things or fulfill some particular ritual or process, the Holy Spirit will teach only them and not the others, or teach them better and differently. The Holy Spirit will teach all things to every disciple of the Lord. It is general knowledge that learning is only through laboring about it, studying the topic repeatedly, and discussing what has been read or learnt with others. No one can learn anything by being casual and careless about it, reading occasionally, or just keeping the text-book without reading it regularly and diligently. While learning, the person has to read and go through the lesson repeatedly, do the exercises that have been instructed in the lesson, and have a review and evaluation done by the instructor. Learning is a process, and the process has to be fulfilled; the Holy Spirit guides the Believer through this process. While learning all students make mistakes, do lack in some things; and then the instructor points out those mistakes and short-comings, guides how to correct them, and takes them through the lesson again. Learning requires time, patience, practice, and efforts; and without undergoing this process learning does not happen. The same holds true for learning from the Holy Spirit about God’s Word, about the way of doing the assigned ministry, and about being obedient to God’s instructions in living the Christian life of faith and commitment. The Holy Spirit resides in every Christian Believer, but for Him to be able to help and guide the Believer, the person has to learn to be sensitive to His promptings, cooperative and obedient to His instructions, be willing and prepared to face the situations He takes one through, persevering in repeatedly handling difficulties and opposition, etc.; only then does the Believer learn, improve, and grow in faith and maturity. 

• “bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” - These days it is a very commonly seen thing amongst some sects and denominations, that their members and followers claim to have received some new revelation or teaching or specific instructions etc., from the Holy Spirit, things that have never been said or written by the authors of the books of the Bible, and prophecies that have never been made in the Bible - this is inconsistent with the Word of God and with the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. It is an unBiblical, wrong teaching and behaviour. Many people, often the newcomers to Christianity are misled and misguided into having similar ambitions and exhibiting similar behaviour. This is misusing the name and work of the Holy Spirit, and committing the sin of adding to the Word of God. the Word of God that we have in our hands today is complete and final in every aspect; and is sufficient for people of every place, time, civilization, to teach them all that is required for life and godliness, to help them escape the corruption of the world, and make them partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:2-4). There is no rational or need to add anything new to it; therefore, God will never give any new revelations or prophecies outside of what He has already provided in His Word. Anyone attempting to add to God’s Word or to remove anything from it will have to face God’s punishment for this (Deuteronomy 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19). In this verse that we are looking at, the Lord Jesus has very clearly said that the Holy Spirit will teach the disciples by reminding them of what the Lord had said; He will teach them what has already been said by the Lord; the Holy Spirit will never teach anything other than that or extra. The Lord Jesus never said that the Holy Spirit will give any new teachings or visions or revelations to the disciples, or would add anything to God’s Word later on. This is affirmed by what the Lord Jesus said in His ‘Great Commission’ instructions to the disciples - that they should make other disciples, and to those who choose to become the Lord’s disciples, teach what the Lord Jesus had taught them (Matthew 28:18-20). The Lord never said to them that they should teach and encourage the new disciples to seek new teachings, revelations, prophecies etc., be desirous of such experiences, to strive to engage in such things. Therefore, any such teachings and behavior in the name of the Holy Spirit or the Lord is contrary to what they have said and got written in the Bible, and is unacceptable.

The lesson to learn is that the disciples, the Believers, should first read and stablish in their hearts and minds the words of the Lord (Colossians 3:16). Whatever, and as much as we store up in our hearts and minds, the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us about it. The more of God’s Word we have within ourselves, the better off we will be, and if we don’t store up much of the Lord’s Word within us, the Holy Spirit will also not have much to teach us from, and neither will He be able to bring to our remembrance the required Word according to the need or circumstances we may be in. So, a disciple’s primary responsibility to learn from the Holy Spirit is to first store up as much of God’s Word as he can within himself. Just a few verses before this verse, in John 14:21, 23 the Lord Jesus had said to His disciples that the one who loves His Word, is the one who actually loves the Lord, and the Lord and God the Father abide with such a person.

Therefore, if you are a Christian Believer, give God’s Word the priority it ought to have in your life. Do not just read the Bible to fulfill a formality, but read it to learn it, to store up its teachings within you, and to obey them. The Holy Spirit has been given to every Believer to help, guide, and teach him (1 Corinthians 2:10-15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17); but He can do this only when the person is willing to cooperate with Him and strive as He directs.

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

व्यक्तिगत जीवन के लिए पवित्र आत्मा के गुण - यूहन्ना 14:17

यूहन्ना 14:17 - “अर्थात सत्य का आत्मा, जिसे संसार ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता, क्योंकि वह न उसे देखता है और न उसे जानता है: तुम उसे जानते हो, क्योंकि वह तुम्हारे साथ रहता है, और वह तुम में होगा।” इस पद में विश्वासी के जीवन से संबंधित परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के तीन गुण दिए गए हैं:

1. वह 'सत्य का आत्मा' है; इस वाक्यांश के दो अभिप्राय हैं। एक तो यह कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का स्वरूप है; वह किसी असत्य, छल, कपट, परमेश्वर के वचन से मेल न रखने वाली बात में न तो सम्मिलित होगा, न सहमत होगा, न उसकी सलाह देगा। और दूसरा, प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने कहा, “यीशु ने उस से कहा, मार्ग और सच्चाई और जीवन मैं ही हूं; बिना मेरे द्वारा कोई पिता के पास नहीं पहुंच सकता” (यूहन्ना 14:6)। क्योंकि इस कथन के अनुसार प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही ‘सत्य’ हैं, इसलिए ‘सत्य का आत्मा’ उनका आत्मा है। इन दोनों ही अभिप्रायों से यह स्पष्ट है कि जो भी शिक्षा परमेश्वर के वचन (यूहन्ना 1:1-2, 14), अर्थात प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिक्षाओं से पूर्णतः मेल नहीं रखती है, वह कदापि पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से नहीं हो सकती है। फिर चाहे वह शिक्षा किसी बहुत विख्यात व्यक्ति, या किसी बहुत नामी और प्रभावी प्रचारक के द्वारा ही क्यों न दी गई हो, तथा ऐसे व्यक्तियों और प्रचारकों के द्वारा चाहे कितने भी और कैसे भी आश्चर्यकर्म क्यों न किए गए हों - इस संदर्भ में मत्ती 7:21-23, 2 कुरिनथियों 11:13-15, तथा 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:9-10 को कभी न भूलें। पौलुस ने गलातियों 1:6-10 में गलातिया की मसीही मण्डली में फैलते जा रहे भ्रामक सुसमाचार प्रचार और गलत शिक्षाओं के विषय में लिखा, कि जो कोई मूल सुसमाचार से कुछ भी भिन्न सुसमाचार सुनाता है, वह श्रापित है, चाहे वह ‘भिन्न सुसमाचार’ सुनाने वाला कोई स्वर्गदूत या फिर स्वयं पौलुस ही क्यों न हो: “मुझे आश्चर्य होता है, कि जिसने तुम्हें मसीह के अनुग्रह से बुलाया उस से तुम इतनी जल्दी फिर कर और ही प्रकार के सुसमाचार की ओर झुकने लगे। परन्तु वह दूसरा सुसमाचार है ही नहीं: पर बात यह है, कि कितने ऐसे हैं, जो तुम्हें घबरा देते, और मसीह के सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ना चाहते हैं। परन्तु यदि हम या स्वर्ग से कोई दूत भी उस सुसमाचार को छोड़ जो हम ने तुम को सुनाया है, कोई और सुसमाचार तुम्हें सुनाए, तो श्रापित हो। जैसा हम पहिले कह चुके हैं, वैसा ही मैं अब फिर कहता हूं, कि उस सुसमाचार को छोड़ जिसे तुम ने ग्रहण किया है, यदि कोई और सुसमाचार सुनाता है, तो श्रापित हो। अब मैं क्या मनुष्यों को मनाता हूं या परमेश्वर को? क्या मैं मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करना चाहता हूं? यदि मैं अब तक मनुष्यों को ही प्रसन्न करता रहता, तो मसीह का दास न होता।” हमें मसीही प्रचार को किसी व्यक्ति की प्रतिष्ठा अथवा किसी प्रचलित और आकर्षक मत या डिनॉमिनेशन की शिक्षाओं के आधार पर नहीं, वरन बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान वचन से उस प्रचार और शिक्षा की सत्यता को परखने के बाद ही ग्रहण करना है “ये लोग तो थिस्सलुनीके के यहूदियोंसे भले थे और उन्होंने बड़ी लालसा से वचन ग्रहण किया, और प्रति दिन पवित्र शास्‍त्रों में ढूंढ़ते रहे कि ये बातें यों ही हैं, कि नहीं। सो उन में से बहुतों ने, और यूनानी कुलीन स्‍त्रियों में से, और पुरुषों में से बहुतेरों ने विश्वास किया” (प्रेरितों 17:11-12)।  

2. इस पद में दिया गया परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा का दूसरा गुण है, कोई सांसारिक व्यक्ति उसे ग्रहण नहीं कर सकता है, क्योंकि न ऐसा व्यक्ति उसे देखता है और न ही जानता है। अर्थात, जब तक व्यक्ति ‘सांसारिक’ है, यानि कि, उद्धार पाया हुआ नहीं है, वह पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता है। सांसारिक व्यक्ति चाहे जितनी भी उपवास-प्रार्थनाएं कर ले, प्रतीक्षा कर ले, कुछ भी अन्य विधि अपना ले; परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा व्यक्ति में तब ही आकर निवास करेगा जब वह सांसारिक से स्वर्गीय जन, अर्थात उद्धार पाया हुआ व्यक्ति बन जाएगा - और तब वह उस व्यक्ति में तुरंत ही, स्वतः ही आकर बस जाएगा, उस व्यक्ति को अलग से कुछ नहीं करना पड़ेगा। अभिप्राय यह कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति अपने आप को उद्धार पाया हुआ कहे, और उसमें पवित्र आत्मा के गुण और फल (गलातियों 5:22-23) न दिखाई दें, तो फिर वह चाहे जितने भी प्रयास कर ले, उसे पवित्र आत्मा तब तक नहीं मिलेगा, जब तक वह वास्तविकता में उद्धार नहीं पा लेगा। इसलिए ऐसे व्यक्ति से पवित्र आत्मा पाने के लिए उपवास-प्रार्थना आदि करने के लिए नहीं, वरन सच्चे मन से पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु पापों की क्षमा माँगकर, अपना जीवन वास्तविकता में प्रभु को समर्पित कर देने और प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने का निर्णय करने के लिए कहना चाहिए। 

3. इस पद में दिया गया तीसरा गुण है पवित्र आत्मा का शिष्यों के साथ सदा रहना। उपरोक्त, सांसारिक व्यक्ति की तुलना में, प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों से पवित्र आत्मा के विषय कहा कि वह 'तुम्हारे' अर्थात प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों के साथ है भी और उनमें रहेगा भी। ध्यान कीजिए, प्रभु ने फिर यहाँ पर शिष्यों को पवित्र आत्मा के उनमें आकर बसने के लिए अलग से कोई प्रयास या कार्य करने के लिए नहीं कहा, वरन स्पष्ट कहा कि वह उन शिष्यों के साथ है, और बना भी रहेगा। बारंबार वचन यह स्पष्ट दिखाता है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा किन्हीं मानवीय उपायों या प्रयासों से नहीं, वरन पापों से पश्चाताप करने और उद्धार पाने से ही प्रभु के जन में आकर बस जाता है। इससे हम यह शिक्षा भी प्राप्त करते हैं कि जो लोग, या मत अथवा डिनॉमिनेशन पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए उद्धार पाने के बाद अलग से कुछ विशेष करने के लिए कहते हैं, वे कितनी गलत शिक्षाएं लोगों में फैला रहे हैं। और यद्यपि वे ‘पवित्र आत्मा’ के नाम पर और उसे महत्व देने के लिए ऐसा करते हैं, किन्तु ‘सत्य का आत्मा’ वाली उपरोक्त पहली शिक्षा के अनुसार, पवित्र आत्मा उनके साथ हो ही नहीं सकता है, क्योंकि पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु यीशु के वचन की पुष्टि ही करेगा, कभी उससे अलग या उसके विरुद्ध बात नहीं करेगा। ऐसी सभी शिक्षाएं भ्रामक हैं, और जैसा पौलुस ने गलातीयों को लिखा, श्रापित है वह व्यक्ति जो इन गलत शिक्षाओं को मानता और सिखाता है। 

    आप 2 कुरिनथियों 13:5, के अनुसार अपने आप को जांच कर देख सकते हैं कि क्या आप वास्तव में उद्धार या नया जन्म पाए हुए व्यक्ति, प्रभु यीशु के सच्चे शिष्य हैं या नहीं। जो उद्धार या नया जन्म पाते हैं, वास्तव में प्रभु के शिष्य बन जाते हैं, उनके जीवन में पाए जाने वाले गुण हैं:

• वह व्यक्ति अपने उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करने में प्रयासरत रहता है (1 कुरिनथियों 11:1; 1 यूहन्ना 2:6).

• वह व्यक्ति परमेश्वर के वचन में बना रहता है (1 यूहन्ना 2:3-5); हर कीमत पर परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखना और मानना उसके जीवन की प्राथमिकता बन जाते हैं (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23; Acts 4:19-20; 5:29; 1 पतरस 2:1-2).

• वह अपने आप को संसार और सांसारिकता की बातों और लालसाओं से अलग कर लेता है (प्रेरितों 2:40; 2 कुरिनथियों 6:14-18; याकूब 4:4; 1 यूहन्ना 2:15-17)

• उद्धार पा लेने के बाद उसके जीवन में आया परिवर्तन प्रकट दिखाई देने लग जाता है (रोमियों 12:1-2).

• वह अंश-अंश करके प्रभु की समानता में ढलता चला जाता है (2 कुरिनथियों 3:18).

• पवित्र आत्मा के फल उसके जीवन में दिखाई देते हैं (गलातियों 5:22-23).

• प्रभु ने जो उसके जीवन में किया है वह उसके बारे में लोगों को बताता है (मरकुस 5:19; यूहन्ना 4:28-29, 39)और सुसमाचार के प्रचार तथा प्रसार में संलग्न रहता है (1 कुरिनथियों 9:16).

परमेश्वर के वचन के आधार पर यह सुनिश्चित कर लीजिए कि आप वास्तव में उद्धार या नया जन्म पाए हुए हैं कि नहीं, और यदि किसी सुधार की आवश्यकता है, तो अभी समय और अवसर रहते हुए उसे कर लीजिए। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जब तक आप की आँख खुले और आपको अपनी वास्तविकता का बोध हो तब तक बहुत देर हो चुकी हो, सदा काल के लिए अवसर और समय आपकए हाथ से निकाल चुका हो।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो थोड़ा थम कर विचार कीजिए, क्या मसीही विश्वास के अतिरिक्त आपको कहीं और यह अद्भुत और विलक्षण आशीषों से भरा सौभाग्य प्राप्त होगा, कि स्वयं परमेश्वर आप में आ कर सर्वदा के लिए निवास करे, फिर आप में होकर अपने कार्य करे, जिससे आपको आशीषों से भर सके? इसलिए अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए मेरे सभी पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” प्रभु की शिष्यता तथा मन परिवर्तन के लिए सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Characteristics of the Holy Spirit for Personal Life - John 14:17

In the previous article, while considering the coming of God the Holy Spirit to reside in a Christian Believer, we had seen that the Lord Jesus talked about this most extensively while celebrating the Passover feast with His disciples, just before His being caught for being crucified. This discussion is recorded in John chapters 14 and 16; in chapter 14 we have the discussion about the role of the Holy Spirit in the personal life of a Christian Believer, and in chapter 16 the role in a Believer’s ministry is given. We have seen from John 14:16 three things about the role of the Holy Spirit in a Believer’s life - the Holy Spirit is given by the Lord God; once He comes in a Believer, He always stays with him for life; the Holy Spirit is a Helper for the Christian Believers, not their servant - He teaches, guides, empowers, and encourages the Believers for their work, life, and ministry but never becomes the person’s substitute, to fulfill his responsibilities in his stead. Today we will look at John 14:17 to learn some more things about the role of the Holy Spirit in a Believers life.

John 14:17 - “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” In this verse we have three characteristics of the Holy Spirit, relevant to the life of Believers:

1. He is “the Spirit of truth;” this phrase can be understood in two ways. One is that God the Holy Spirit is a form or expression of ‘truth’; He will never ever say or suggest or advise, or be associated with, or involved in any manner with anything that is untrue, false, deceitful, not consistent with God’s Word; everything from Him will be the truth and nothing but the truth. The second is that, as the Lord Jesus has said, “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me".” (John 14:6) - Lord Jesus is truth personified, and the Holy Spirit is His Spirit – the Spirit of The Truth. From both of these aspects about the Holy Spirit being “the Spirit of truth”, it is evident that any teaching or exposition of the Word of God, that is not fully in accordance with the teachings of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1-2, 14) cannot ever be from the Holy Spirit. It is of no consequence, who has given that teaching or exposition; his stature, renown, knowledge, acceptability amongst the people and in the world, works and miracles done done by him, etc. notwithstanding - in this context never forget to keep in mind Matthew 7:21-23, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, and 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10. Paul wrote in Galatians 1:6-10, about the wrong teachings and gospel preaching that had begun to take hold in the Church at Galatia, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” We should be very careful in receiving and believing any preaching and teaching about the Lord and God’s Word. Our acceptance of it should neither based upon the reputation of the preacher nor because of it’s being according to the beliefs and teachings of our or some popular sect or denomination. But we should only accept every teaching and preaching as the Berean Believers did - after first testing and confirming it from the Word of God, “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore, many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men” (Acts 17:11-12).

2. The second characteristic of the Holy Spirit given in this verse is “whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him”; in other words, unless a person is truly Born-Again or saved, he can never receive the Holy Spirit. An unsaved or worldly person may do any number of fasting-prayers, tarry for as long as he wants, adopt any other method to receive the Holy Spirit, but God’s Holy Spirit will come to reside in him only when he changes from being a worldly to a heavenly person, i.e., is saved or is Born-Again. As soon as this happens, the Holy Spirit will immediately come and reside in him, he will not have to do anything to have Him come into him. The implication is that if a person considers himself and claims to be Born-Again or saved person, but the characteristics and fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are not evident in his life, then howsoever much efforts he may do, he will never receive the Holy Spirit till he is truly saved or Born-Again. Therefore, it is futile to advise such a person to do fasting-prayers, tarrying, or any other things. Rather, he should be told to truly repent of sins with a sincere heart, ask forgiveness for his sins from the Lord, surrender his life to the Lord and decide to live a life obedient and committed to the Lord and His Word.

3. The third characteristic given here is addressed to the disciples, “for He dwells with you and will be in you.” In contrast to a worldly person, the Lord Jesus assured His disciples that the Holy Spirit will always be with and in them. Once again take note that here the Lord Jesus never asked or implied in any manner that the Holy Spirit will come into them as a result of any of their or any other human’s efforts; rather the Lord has very clearly stated about the Holy Spirit that “or He dwells with you” and will come to reside in them. Time and again, God’s Word very clearly says that the Holy Spirit is not received through any human efforts or methods, but automatically and immediately comes to reside in every Christian Believer the moment he is saved or Born-Again. From this characteristic of the Holy Spirit, we can safely infer and say that those sects and denominations that preach and teach having to do something else, something extra to receive the Holy Spirit after being saved, they are not teaching the correct facts and interpretation of God’s Word, their teachings are inconsistent with God’s Word. Even though they do this in the name of and to emphasize about the “Holy Spirit”, but as we have seen in the aforementioned first characteristic, in light of the Holy Spirit being “the Spirit of Truth”, what they preach and teach cannot be from the Holy Spirit. Neither can the Holy Spirit be with them, since He will only affirm, remind, and teach what the Lord Jesus has said; He will never say anything other than or contrary to what the Lord has already said. All such preaching and teachings are deceptions, and as Paul wrote to the Galatians, cursed is the one who believes in and preaches wrong things about God’s Word.

In accordance with 2 Corinthians 13:5, you can evaluate and see for yourself whether you actually are a Born-Again, saved person, a disciple of the Lord Jesus or not. The signs of a person’s being saved or Born-Again and become a disciple of the Lord Jesus are:

• He strives to emulate his savior, the Lord Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:1; 1 John 2:6).

• He abides in God’s Word (1 John 2:3-5); learning and obeying God’s Word at all costs are his priority (John 14:21, 23; Acts 4:19-20; 5:29; 1 Peter 2:1-2).

• He separates himself from the world and the things of the world (Acts 2:40; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; James 4:4; 1 John 2:15-17)

• There is an evident change in his life since being saved (Romans 12:1-2).

• He is gradually, bit by bit, progressively being transformed into the likeness of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18).

• The fruits of the Holy Spirit are evident in his life (Galatians 5:22-23).

• He engages in witnessing about what the Lord has done in his life (Mark 5:19; John 4:28-29, 39) and is involved in the spread of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:16).

Confirm on the basis of God’s Word whether you truly are saved or Born-Again or not, and if any rectification has to be done, do it now while you have the time and opportunity, lest by the time you wake up to the reality, it is too late. If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

हम पहले के लेखों में यह देख चुके हैं कि प्रभु ने शिष्यों के लिए यह अनिवार्य किया था कि वे बिना पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य को प्राप्त किए, सेवकाई के लिए बाहर न निकलें। साथ ही प्रभु ने उन्हें यह भी स्मरण करवाया था कि पवित्र आत्मा के विषय वह उनसे पहले भी चर्चा कर चुका है। हमने पिछली बार प्रभु द्वारा अपनी पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के दौरान, अपने क्रूस पर दिए गए बलिदान से पहले, शिष्यों के साथ विभिन्न समयों पर पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में की गई बातों को देखा था, जिनमें प्रभु ने बारंबार यही कहा था कि उन्हें आने वाले समय में पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होगा। इसलिए, प्रभु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले के इन हवालों के आधार पर पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करने से संबंधित कुछ गढ़ी हुई धारणाओं को उचित ठहराने के प्रयास करना या तर्क देना अनुचित और परमेश्वर के वचन की गलत व्याख्या करना होगा। शिष्य के जीवन में पवित्र आत्मा की भूमिका के विषय पर बाइबल में दर्ज की गई प्रभु की सबसे विस्तृत चर्चा, प्रभु के पकड़वाए जाने से ठीक पहले, फसह के पर्व के भोज के दौरान, शिष्यों से हुई बात-चीत में दी गई है, जिसका विवरण हमें यूहन्ना 14 तथा 16 अध्यायों में मिलता है। हम इन्हीं अध्यायों में प्रभु द्वारा परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय दी गई शिक्षाओं से सीखते हैं कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासी के व्यक्तिगत जीवन, तथा सेवकाई में क्या कार्य करता है, और परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य क्यों मसीह यीशु के शिष्य की मसीही सेवकाई के लिए आवश्यक है।

 

 यूहन्ना 14: व्यक्तिगत उपयोगिता

प्रभु ने पहले शिष्यों को, उनमें परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आवश्यकता और शिष्यों के जीवन में पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा होने वाले कार्यों के बारे में बताया:

यूहन्ना 14:16 - “और मैं पिता से बिनती करूंगा, और वह तुम्हें एक और सहायक देगा, कि वह सर्वदा तुम्हारे साथ रहे।” पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासी का सहायक है, प्रभु द्वारा दिया गया एक भिन्न (एक 'और') सहायक; इस पद में हम पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में तीन मुख्य बातों को देखते हैं:

1. वह प्रभु यीशु मसीह की परमेश्वर पिता से विनती के आधार पर, अर्थात प्रभु यीशु मसीह की ओर से परमेश्वर पिता द्वारा प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों में भेजा या दिया जाता है; किसी अन्य विधि से नहीं। कोई मनुष्य त्रिएक परमेश्वर के इस सम्मिलित कार्य में न तो हस्तक्षेप कर सकता है, और न परमेश्वर को उस मनुष्य के कहे या उस मनुष्य की इच्छा के अनुसार कुछ करने के लिए बाध्य कर सकता है। तात्पर्य यह, कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा किसी मनुष्य के कहे अनुसार या मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई और बताई जाने वाली विधियों से प्राप्त नहीं होता है, जैसा कि कुछ मत या डिनॉमिनेशन वाले बहुत जोर देकर अपने अनुयायियों को बताते और सिखाते हैं। और हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि आज इस अनुग्रह के समय में, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उद्धार पाते ही परमेश्वर की ओर से पवित्र आत्मा दे दिया जाता है।

2. उसे सर्वदा मसीही विश्वासी के साथ रहने के लिए दिया गया है। इसलिए उद्धार पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के लिए बार-बार पवित्र आत्मा मांगने की प्रार्थना करना या कहना अथवा गीतों में गाना और मांगना, प्रभु की शिक्षाओं और परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार नहीं है – उद्धार पाने के साथ जब एक बार दे दिया गया तो सदा साथ रहने के लिए दे दिया गया। वह मसीही विश्वासी को छोड़ कर कभी नहीं जाता है। 

3. परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा 'सहायक' होने के लिए दिया गया है - उनका सेवक होने के लिए नहीं। वह मसीही विश्वासियों से कार्य करवाता है, उनका मार्गदर्शन करता है, उन्हें सिखाता है, उनके लिए निर्धारित सेवकाई के अनुसार उन्हें योग्य और सामर्थी करने के लिए उपयुक्त वरदान देता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7, 11); किन्तु वह विश्वासियों के स्थान पर उनके लिए निर्धारित कार्य नहीं करता है। मसीही विश्वासी उस से कार्यों या जिम्मेदारियों का निर्वाह करने के लिए अपनी असमर्थता जता कर, अपना निर्धारित कार्य उससे नहीं करवा सकते हैं। यदि विश्वासी किसी कार्य को करने में असमर्थ हैं, तो पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें बताएगा, सिखाएगा, उनका मार्गदर्शन करेगा कि वो उस कार्य को कैसे करें; लेकिन उनके स्थान पर उस कार्य को कर के नहीं देगा। करना मसीही विश्वासी को ही होगा, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सिखाए के अनुसार।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु परमेश्वर द्वारा आपके लिए निर्धारित सेवकाई को प्रभु की इच्छा के अनुसार, और प्रभु को स्वीकार्य रीति से पूरा करना चाहते हैं, प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी होना चाहते हैं, तो आपके जीवन में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति तथा भूमिका के प्रति आपको सजग और संवेदनशील होना अनिवार्य है। जब आप, आपके अंदर निवास करने वाले परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आवाज़ को पहचानने लगेंगे, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में होकर, उसके कहे के अनुसार कार्य करने लगेंगे, तो आपकी मसीही सेवकाई स्वतः ही परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य से परिपूर्ण, प्रभावी, उपयोगी, और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य हो जाएगी।

क्या इस बात की कल्पना भी करना आपके अंदर एक रोमांच नहीं भर देता है कि परमेश्वर आप में होकर कार्य करना चाहता है, ताकि आपको आशीषित कर सके, अनन्तकाल के प्रतिफलों से परिपूर्ण कर सके? वह तो करना चाहता है, और उसने इसके लिए उपयुक्त संसाधन भी आपको उपलब्ध करवा दिए हैं; किन्तु क्या आप अपनी तथा अपने साथ के लोगों की बुद्धि-समझ-ज्ञान, और अपने डिनॉमिनेशन की मान्यताओं, धारणाओं, और विधि-विधानों आदि से निकलकर केवल परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार करने के लिए तैयार हैं, प्रतिबद्ध हैं (गलातीयों 1:10)। जब तक आप में यह निर्णय करने और उसे निभाने की हिम्मत नहीं होगी, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को आपके जीवन में खुलकर और प्रभावी रीति से कार्य करने की अनुमति और छूट नहीं होगी; और फिर न ही आप एक प्रभावी मसीही सेवकाई करने पाएंगे, और न ही अपने अनन्तकाल के लिए कोई विशेष प्रतिफल अर्जित करने पाएंगे। और फिर आपका मसीही जीवन और मसीही सेवकाई धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के बंधनों में बंधा मनुष्यों और संस्थाओं द्वारा निर्धारित औपचारिकताएं पूरी करते रहने मात्र का ही जीवन बनकर रह जाएगा।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो थोड़ा थम कर विचार कीजिए, क्या मसीही विश्वास के अतिरिक्त आपको कहीं और यह अद्भुत और विलक्षण आशीषों से भरा सौभाग्य प्राप्त होगा, कि स्वयं परमेश्वर आप में होकर कार्य करे, जिससे आपको आशीषों से भर सके? इसलिए अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए मेरे सभी पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” प्रभु की शिष्यता तथा मन परिवर्तन के लिए सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Role of the Holy Spirit in Personal Life - John 14:16

In the previous articles we have seen that the Lord Jesus had made it mandatory for the disciples to wait till they had received the power of the Holy Spirit, only then to go out for their ministry. The Lord had also reminded them that He had talked to them about the Holy Spirit earlier also. We had seen in the previous article about the various references regarding the Lord’s talking to the disciples about the Holy Spirit, before His crucifixion. In these discussions with the disciples the Lord had kept telling them that their receiving the Holy Spirit will happen in the days to come. Therefore, to argue and try to justify some current notions about receiving the Holy Spirit, on the basis of these pre-crucifixion references, is inappropriate and misinterpreting the Word of God. The most detailed discussion of the Lord regarding the role of the Holy Spirit in disciple’s life is found in His discourse with the disciples while eating the Passover feast, in John chapters 14 and 16. From the teachings given by the Lord in this discourse, we learn that the Holy Spirit has a very important role in both the personal life (chapter 14) as well as the ministry of a Christian Believer (chapter 16); we also learn why the presence, power, and activity of the Holy Spirit is necessary in Christian ministry.

John 14: Role of the Holy Spirit in Personal Life

The Lord, first of all, told the disciples about the necessity of the Holy Spirit and about the works that He does in their lives:

John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” The Holy Spirit is there to help the Christian Believer, given by God as ‘another helper’ or one more helper. From this verse we see three main things about the Holy Spirit:

1. He is sent by God the Father on the basis of the Lord Jesus’s request to do so, i.e., He is sent by God the Father to be with the disciples of the Lord Jesus, on behalf of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other way to have Him come into a person’s life. No man can interfere in this work of the Holy Trinity; nor can any man ever, in any manner compel the Triune God to do according to what that man says or wants. The implication is that, contrary to what some sects and denominations teach and emphasize upon, God the Holy Spirit neither comes to anyone on the basis of any man’s works or requests, nor through any of the methods and practices devised by any person. Rather, as we have already seen, in this Age of Grace, the Holy Spirit is given spontaneously to every Born-Again Christian Believer by the Lord God, the moment he is saved.

2. He has been given to every Christian Believer, “that He may abide with you forever” - He comes to remain forever and always with the Believer. Therefore, for a saved Christian Believer, there is no sense or rational to repeatedly keep praying or asking for the Holy Spirit to come and be with him. Similarly, all worship and songs etc. asking for the Holy Spirit to come again and fill again or empower again etc. are vain and inconsistent with the straightforward teachings of the Lord and God’s Word - when He has already been given by the Lord God to a Believer, it is so that He remains with the Believer forever. He never leaves and goes away from any Christian Believer, so it makes no sense to keep asking for Him again and again in various ways.

3. God the Holy Spirit has been given to be a Believer’s helper - not his servant or substitute laborer. He guides and teaches the Christian Believers, He is there to empower and enable them, to help them to do their ministry and work. He also gives to the Christian Believers the necessary gifts so that they can fulfill their God assigned ministry worthily (1 Corinthians 12:7, 11); but He does not do anyone’s work for him, in his stead. No Christian Believer can plead inability to do his work due to any reason, and ask the Holy Spirit to do it for him; this will never happen. If for any reason, a Christian Believer is unable to do some work, then the Holy Spirit will teach him, show him how to do it, guide him, encourage him to do the work; but He will never take over from the person pleading inability and do that work for him. The work will have to be done by the Christian Believer, the Holy Spirit will help and guide him into doing it.

If you are a Christian Believer, and want to fulfill your God assigned ministry according to God’s will, in the manner acceptable to God, and be useful and fruitful for the Lord, then you will have to be sensitive to the presence and role of God the Holy Spirit residing in you. When you start recognizing the promptings of the Holy Spirit residing in you, and start working under His guidance in obedience to Him, then your Christian ministry will automatically become full of God’s power, effective, useful for the Lord, acceptable to God, and a source of blessings for you.

Doesn’t this thought fill you with a thrill and exhilaration that God desires to work through you, so that He can bless you, fill you with eternal rewards? He wants to do this, and He has made available the necessary provisions also; but are you willing to be obedient to Him and only Him? Are you committed to do only what God says, no matter what your own or some other person’s wisdom, understanding, and knowledge may be telling you; no matter what the beliefs, notions, rites and rituals of your sect of denomination might be? Are you willing to step out of every man-made rule and regulation for the sake of being obedient to God and pleasing God (Galatians 1:10)? Unless and until you have the courage to take this decision and live by it, God the Holy Spirit will never have the freedom to fully and effectively work in your life; and then you will neither fulfill your God assigned ministry appropriately, nor will you be able to gather any worthwhile rewards for your eternity. Unless you provide this freedom to the Holy Spirit in your life, your Christian life will only be life of living to fulfill the demands religion, rituals, and works, under the obligations and formalities of men, denominations, and organizations.

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
