आशीषित और सफल जीवन जीने पर पिछली श्रृंखला के लेखों में, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के परमेश्वर की कलीसिया के औरपरमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने के भण्डारी होने से संबंधित बातों पर विचार करते हुए, हमने उन बातों के बारे में सीखा था जो कलीसिया की तथा मसीही विश्वासियों की बढ़ोतरी में बाधा डालती हैं। उन में से एक मुख्य बात, जिस पर हमने संक्षेप में विचार किया था वह थी कलीसिया एवं विश्वासियों के मध्य परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई की भूमिका।

हम कलीसिया के इतिहास से जानते हैं कि प्रथम शताब्दी में कलीसिया का सबसे अधिक तेजी से और सारे सँसार में प्रसार हुआ, और जहाँ-जहाँ कलीसियाएं स्थापित हुईं वहाँ उनकी उन्नति भी हुई। और यह तब, जब उनके पास लिखित रूप में परमेश्वर का वचन, विशेषकर नया नियम – जो उस समय लिखा जा रहा था, था ही नहीं। शिक्षाएँ मुख्यतः प्रेरितों के द्वारा मौखिक दी जाती थीं, या कुछ पत्रियों के द्वारा, जो किसी व्यक्ति अथवा कलीसिया को लिखी जाती थीं, और आस-पास की कलीसियाओं में घुमा कर वहाँ भी पढ़ी-सुनाई जाती थीं। किन्तु प्रेरितों के द्वारा प्रचार किए जा रहे इस परमेश्वर के वचन में एक बात थी – वह परिशुद्ध था, उसमें मनुष्यों की समझ और विचारों की कोई मिलावट नहीं की जाती थी। अर्थात, जैसा उन्हें प्रभु या पवित्र आत्मा से मिला था (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23; 15:3; गलतियों 1:11-12; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:2; 1 यूहन्ना 1:5); वे उसे वैसा ही, बिना उसमें उनकी अपनी बुद्धि के विचार और बातों को मिलाए (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-2, 5), बाँट देते थे; और इसीलिए वह इतना प्रभावी था। अब थोड़ा रुक कर इस बात पर विचार कीजिये: यदि वही वचन जिसने उस समय कलीसिया की इतनी बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति की थी, उसी तरह से, जैसा परमेश्वर ने दिया है, उसी शुद्धता और आज्ञाकारिता में आज दिया जाए, तो निश्चय ही क्या उसका वही प्रभाव, वही परिणाम नहीं होंगे जो उस समय हुए थे?

यह तर्क कोई मन-गढ़न्त बात नहीं है। हम परमेश्वर के वचन से देखते हैं कि यह परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार के द्वारा ही था कि कलीसियाएं दृढ़ हुईं और बढ़ीं (प्रेरितों 4:4; 6:7; 16:4-5; 12:24; 19:20; 20:32)। कलीसियाओं की बढ़ोतरी के इस आरंभिक चरण में, वचन के मुख्य शिक्षक और प्रचारक प्रेरित तथा प्रभु यीशु के अन्य शिष्य थे। वे प्रभु के प्रति पूर्णतः और खराई से समर्पित थे और अपनी सेवकाई पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन में करते थे। वह वचन जो पवित्र आत्मा से उन प्रेरितों तथा अगुवों में होकर आता था, उसके द्वारा यह बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति होती थी (प्रेरितों 16:4-5)। उस समय शैतान यूँ ही निष्क्रिय होकर बैठा हुआ नहीं था, तब भी ऐसे लोग थे जो अपने ही विचारों, व्याख्याओं, और धारणाओं को परमेश्वर का वचन कहकर प्रचार करते थे (मत्ती 15:8-9; 2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17; 11:13-15), किन्तु उस से कभी भी कलीसिया या विश्वासियों की बढ़ोतरी अथवा उन्नति में कोई योगदान नहीं मिला, और बाइबल में उसकी भर्त्सना की गई है।

अगले लेख में हम कुछ अन्य आरंभिक बातों को देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Preliminary Considerations – 1

 

In the previous series on leading a Blessed and Successful Life, while considering Christian Believers being stewards of God’s Church and their being in Fellowship with other children of God, we had learnt about the factors affecting the growth of the Church and of the Christian Believers. One of the main factors that we had briefly considered was the role of God’s Word in this growth of the Church and the Christian Believers.

We know from Church history that in the first century, the Church spread very rapidly all over the world, and grew locally wherever it was established. This, although they did not have the written Word of God, particularly the New Testament – which was still being written. Primarily, the teachings were done by the Apostles orally, and through some letters written to individuals or some of the Churches, and circulated around to be read and heard there. But there was one thing about this Word of God being preached and taught by the Apostles – it was pure and unadulterated by human thoughts and wisdom. It was just as they had received it from the Lord or from the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 11:23; 15:3; Galatians 1:11-12; 1 Thessalonians 4:2; 1 John 1:5), and was delivered by them, unadulterated by their own thoughts and wisdom (2 Corinthians 4:1-2, 5); and therefore it was so effective. Now just stop for a moment and ponder over this: If the same Word that caused the Church to grow and spread at that time, is ministered in the same manner, in obedience towards it and maintaining its God given purity, as it was done at that time, surely will it not have the same effect and produce the same results as it had, in the first Church?

This argument is not mere conjecture. We see from God's Word that it was through the preaching of the Word of God, that the Churches were strengthened and grew (Acts 4:4; 6:7; 16:4-5; 12:24; 19:20; 20:32). In this initial phase of Church growth, the main teachers and preachers of the Word were the Apostles and other disciples of Christ. They were sincerely committed to be obedient to the Lord and carrying on their ministry under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It was this Word that came through the Apostles and Elders under the guidance of the Holy Spirit that caused this growth (Acts 16:4-5). Even at that time, Satan was not sitting by idly; there were people who preached their own thoughts, interpretations, and ideas as God's Word (Matthew 15:8-9; 2 Corinthians 2:17; 11:13-15), but it never contributed in any way to the spiritual growth and development of the Believers or of the Churches, and has been denounced in the Bible.

In the next article we will look at some more preliminary considerations.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    अदन की वाटिका में हुए उस पहले पाप, जिसका परिणाम हम आज तक झेल रहे हैं, के कार्यान्वित हो जाने में एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका हव्वा द्वारा उसके लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित भूमिका और कार्य से हटकर, आदम को सौंपे गए कार्य में हाथ डालना था – वह “सहायक” से “निर्णायक” और नियंत्रण करने वाली बन गई। शैतान की बातों और बहकावे में आकर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:3), न केवल उसने वाटिका से संबंधित कार्य और वहाँ के फलों में से किसे खाना है और किसे नहीं का निर्णय करने का अधिकार अपने हाथों में ले लिया, तथा बिना आदम से पूछे अपने उस निर्णय को प्रभावी किया, वरन उसने आदम को भी अपने इस गलत निर्णय के पालन में सम्मिलित कर लिया (उत्पत्ति 3:6, 12)। यह आदम की गलती थी कि उसने हव्वा को मना करने के स्थान पर, उसके कहे को माना, और इस प्रकार वह भी परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता में आ गया। परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित कार्य और भूमिका के निर्वाह के स्थान पर, दूसरे के कार्य और भूमिका में हाथ डालने के कारण पाप का यह श्राप सारे संसार और सृष्टि पर आ गया (रोमियों 8:19-23), जिसके निवारण के लिए परमेश्वर को स्वर्ग की महिमा छोड़कर पृथ्वी पर अपमानित होने तथा निकृष्ट मृत्यु को सहन करने के लिए आना पड़ा। इस पाप के कारण ही स्त्री को पुरुष की अधीनता में आना पड़ा (उत्पत्ति 3:16) – किन्तु अधीनता में आने का यह अर्थ नहीं है कि उसे पुरुष से हीन अथवा गौण कर दिया गया, उसे निकृष्ट या दासी होकर रहने के लिए कहा गया। परमेश्वर द्वारा यह कहना कि “तेरी लालसा तेरे पति की ओर होगी, और वह तुझ पर प्रभुता करेगा”, कोई नई बात लाना नहीं था, केवल स्त्री के “निर्णायक” होने की बजाए, उसके “सहायक” होने को, जो कि परमेश्वर की मूल योजना थी, उसी बात को फिर से दृढ़ता से व्यक्त और प्रभावी करना था।

   अब 1 तिमुथियुस 2:15 के संदर्भ पर आते हैं। बाइबल की कोई भी बात देखने, समझने के लिए उसे उसके तात्कालिक सन्दर्भ, अर्थात उसके आगे-पीछे के पदों के साथ देखना अनिवार्य है, साथ ही उसे बाइबल में  लिखी अन्य संबंधित बातों के साथ भी देखना आवश्यक है। इस अध्याय का आरंभ मसीही सेवकाई से संबंधित विवरण के साथ होता है (पद 1-8), और फिर मसीही समाज में स्त्रियों के व्यवहार से संबंधित निर्देश दिए गए हैं (पद 9-12), तथा स्त्रियों को दिए गए इन निर्देशों का कारण समझाया गया है (पद 13-14)। क्योंकि पौलुस को, पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन में, तिमुथियुस को ये निर्देश देने पड़े, इसलिए यह एक स्वाभाविक निष्कर्ष है कि तिमुथियुस जिस कलीसिया का अगुवा था, जिसकी देखभाल का दायित्व उसे सौंपा गया था, उसमें ऐसा नहीं हो रहा था। प्रत्यक्षतः, वहाँ पर स्त्रियाँ वह कर रही थीं जो परमेश्वर के वचन और मसीही विश्वास की शिक्षाओं के अनुसार सही नहीं था। स्त्रियाँ, परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें सौंपे गए दायित्व और भूमिका को छोड़ कर पुरुषों की भूमिका और कार्य में हाथ डाल रही थीं – वही पाप कर रही थीं जो हव्वा ने अदन की वाटिका में किया। इस कारण वे परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता की दोषी थीं, उस अनाज्ञाकारिता के दुष्परिणाम उन पर आने थे। उनके द्वारा स्वयं पर लाई गई इस विकट स्थिति से “उद्धार” अर्थात छुटकारा लेने और बहाल होने के लिए ही उन्हें यह कहा गया कि वे “बच्चा जनने” के द्वारा यह करने पाएँगी; अर्थात अपने पति के साथ मिलकर उसके “सहायक” की भूमिका के निर्वाह के द्वारा, परिवार में अपनी भूमिका के सही निर्वाह, परिवार और बच्चों की अच्छी देखभाल और सही परवरिश के द्वारा, वे अनाज्ञाकारिता का पाप करने की अपनी इस प्रवृत्ति से निकलने पाएंगी – उस से “उद्धार” पाएँगी – न कि वह आत्मिक उद्धार पाएंगी जिसका उल्लेख रोमियों 10:9-13 में किया गया है। इसीलिए इस 15 पद का दूसरा भाग कहता है, “यदि वे संयम सहित विश्वास, प्रेम, और पवित्रता में स्थिर रहें।” क्योंकि जो वास्तव में परमेश्वर से प्रेम रखता है, वह परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों पर विश्वास भी रखेगा, और चाहे स्वाभाविक प्रवृत्ति अथवा संसार के लोगों के द्वारा उकसाया जाना कैसा भी हो, वह संयम के साथ परमेश्वर के वचन का आज्ञाकारी रहेगा, और अनाज्ञाकारिता के पाप से दूषित नहीं वरन वचन की आज्ञाकारिता की पवित्रता में स्थिर बना रहेगा। बच्चा जनने का अभिप्राय पारिवारिक दायित्व का ठीक से निर्वाह करना है; और इस पद का तात्पर्य स्त्रियाँ पुरुषों के कार्यों में हाथ डालने के स्थान पर, अपने दायित्वों के निर्वाह में लौट आने और उन्हें ठीक से निभाने के द्वारा अनाज्ञाकारिता के दण्ड से बचाई जाएँगी, है।

Understanding Being Saved in Childbearing, 

1 Timothy 2:15 - Part (2)

In the committing of the first sin in the Garden of Eden, whose consequences we are still suffering, there was a very major role of Eve taking upon herself a role entrusted to Adam, instead of continuing to fulfill the role and responsibilities assigned to her by God. Instead of remaining as Adam's "helper" she took on the role of being not only the "decision-maker" but also of ensuring implementation of her decision. Getting beguiled by Satan's clever talk (2 Corinthians 11:3), she not only took it upon herself to decide and implement which fruit should be eaten, but also made Adam to eat of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6, 12). Adam's error was that instead of refusing Eve and disallowing her eating the fruit, he too did what she said, and therefore made himself a party to her disobeying God; he too became guilty of the sin of disobedience. Instead of fulfilling God given role and responsibility, putting her hand into the other person's role and responsibility, sin entered and its curse has affected the whole creation (Romans 8:19-23), and to mitigate the effects of this sin God had to leave the glory of heaven, come down to earth to be humiliated and ridiculed, and to suffer the abominable death on the cross. It was because of this sin that Eve and womankind had to come under the subjugation of Adam and mankind (Genesis 3:16) - but this subjugation does not mean she had to become lesser or inferior to man and live a contemptible life as a slave of man. God's saying "Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you" was not stating or bringing in something new; it was only firmly emphasizing and ensuring that woman was to live and function as man's "helper" and not as the "decision-maker" and "controller", as was God's original plan for women.

Because God has asked the woman to be man's "helper", therefore God's Word repeatedly asks women to remain quiet, not to preach to men or in the Church, and to learn from their husbands and remain under his authority (1 Corinthians 11:3-10; 1 Corinthians 14:34-35; Ephesians 5:22-24; Colossians 3:18; 1 Timothy 2:11-12; Titus 2:15; 1 Peter 3:1-6). This is not to show them as inferior or lesser – because in God's eyes they are not in the least inferior to men, rather, both are equal (Acts 2:18; 5:14; 8:12; Galatians 3:28). But it is to ensure a proper fulfilling of the roles of men and women as envisaged by God; and for them to remain in obedience to God. Since the consequences of disobeying God are catastrophic, therefore if they do not bring themselves under the obedience of God, they will suffer destructive consequences. The work and role, specially the one related to making and building a family, to demonstrating motherly love and care, patience, forbearance etc. the way women can do, is virtually impossible for men to do likewise. Generally speaking, only the woman can teach the family and children to reverence and obey God; but this is a challenging task for men. A man can make himself an example of godly living, but only a woman can teach the children to emulate that example set up by the man. Also, it is not that the women have been absolutely forbidden to preach or minister God's Word to others; they have a very important role to play in the teaching and preaching of God's Word - but to other women and to children (Proverbs 31:26-30; 1 Timothy 5:5-10; Titus 2:3-5); only that in God's wisdom and planning, they have been forbidden from doing this in the Church or to men. Take note, Moses had been brought up in the royal palace, and taught by the very Egyptians who oppressed the Israelites. But in that environment of opposing the Israelites, it was Moses' mother who had been responsible for his upbringing. Consequently, as an adult, Moses did not walk and work like the Egyptians, but considered the Israelites as "his people" and Jehovah as his God, and for this he was even willing to sacrifice his Egyptian royal status and life of luxury (Acts 7:22-36; Hebrews 11:24-26). This is a very important role and function of ladies in a family, for which the men have no alternative solution. Looking at men and women from the superiority-inferiority, major-minor, better-worse perspective only brings problems; but looking at them from God's perspective and understanding the issue as God wants it understood brings peace and blessings.

Now let us look into the immediate context of 1 Timothy 2:15. To analyze and understand anything from the Bible, it is imperative to look at it in its immediate context - along with the verses before and after it; moreover, it should also necessarily be seen along with the other related things given in the Bible. This chapter begins with instructions related to Christian service (vs. 1-8), followed by instructions related to behavior of women in Christian society (vs. 9-12), and the reason for this is also given (vs. 13-14). Because Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, necessarily had to give these instructions to Timothy, therefore it is an obvious conclusion that in the Church where Timothy was an elder or leader and had the responsibility of shepherding it, things were not being done according to God's instructions. Evidently, the ladies in that Church were doing things that were not in accordance with God's Word and Christian teachings. The women, having left their God given role and responsibilities, were involving themselves in the roles and responsibilities of men - were committing the same sin that Eve did in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, they were guilty of the sin of disobeying God, and would have had to suffer the deleterious consequences of their disobedience. It was to "save" or deliver them from the harmful consequences of their self-inflicted disobedience and to restore them to their correct positions, that they were told to "be saved in childbearing"; the implication was that by living out their proper role as the "helper" of their husbands and of "home-makers" and other family responsibilities, e.g. proper upbringing and teaching of children and taking care of the family, they will be able to "save" themselves from the consequences of committing this sin - they will thus be "saved" from both, the tendency and its consequences. This "being saved" is not the spiritual salvation that Romans 10:9-13 is talking about. That is why, the second part of this verse says, "if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control." Because whosoever truly 'loves' God, will also 'believe' in and be obedient to God's Word, and will not defile herself by disobedience, rather will remain firm in the 'holiness' of obedience, exercising 'self-control' no matter what the provocation by their natural tendencies or the ways and teachings of the world may be. The implication of the phrase 'childbearing' is to properly fulfill their familial responsibilities and role; and the meaning of this verse is that the women by reverting back to their role of home-makers and looking after their families, instead of getting into the roles and responsibilities given to men, will be able to "save" or deliver themselves from the consequences of disobedience.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

उत्तर:

    इस पद की बात ने बहुत से लोगों को असमंजस में रखा हुआ है, और बाइबल की अनेकों व्याख्याओं तथा टिप्पणियों में इसके विभिन्न उत्तर हैं, इसे कई प्रकार से समझाने का प्रयत्न किया गया है। प्रार्थनाओं के द्वारा परमेश्वर ने जो मुझे अपने वचन तथा अपने कुछ सेवकों की व्याख्याओं के माध्यम से समझ प्रदान की है, उसे आपके सामने रख रहा हूँ; आशा है यह उत्तर आपको स्वीकार्य होगा। इसे समझने के लिए पहले कुछ अन्य संबंधित बातों को देखना और समझना होगा, तभी, सभी के तालमेल के साथ इसे ठीक से समझा जा सकेगा।

    पहली बात, बच्चा जनने के द्वारा ‘उद्धार’ वह आत्मिक उद्धार नहीं है जो रोमियों 10:9-13 में तथा परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य स्थानों लिखा है। यह सामान्य जानकारी है कि प्रत्येक बच्चा जनने वाली स्त्री आत्मिक उद्धार पाई हुई नहीं होती है; और प्रत्येक आत्मिक उद्धार पाई हुई स्त्री ने बच्चा भी जना हो, यह भी अनिवार्य नहीं है। हिन्दी में ‘उद्धार’ और अंग्रजी में अधिकांश अनुवादों में ‘saved’ के प्रयोग के कारण ही इस पद का यह असमंजस और समझने में कठिनाई है। मूल यूनानी भाषा में जो शब्द यहाँ पर प्रयोग किया गया है वह है “सोद्जो” जिसका सामान्यतः अर्थ होता है ‘बचना’ या ‘उद्धार’; किन्तु परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में केवल यही इस शब्द का अर्थ नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन में इसके अन्य अर्थ और प्रयोग भी किए गए हैं, उदाहरण के लिए:

·        मत्ती 9:21, लूका 8:50 और प्रेरितों 4:9 में इसी शब्द का अनुवाद और प्रयोग ठीक या बहाल होना या चंगा होने के अभिप्राय से किया गया है।

·        मत्ती 27:40 में इसे सुरक्षा या विकट परिस्थिति से छुड़ा लेने के अभिप्राय से अनुवाद और प्रयोग किया गया है।

·        मरकुस 5:23 में इसे चंगाई मिलने के अभिप्राय से अनुवाद और प्रयोग किया गया है।

·        2 तिमुथियुस 4:18 में इसे सुरक्षित रखे जाने के अभिप्राय से अनुवाद और प्रयोग किया गया है।

   (उपरोक्त उदाहरण हिन्दी अनुवाद में उतने स्पष्ट नहीं हैं जितने अंग्रजी में; इसलिए यदि आप इन्हें किसी अंग्रेज़ी अनुवाद – जैसे कि KJV या NKJV आदि के साथ देखें तो अधिक अच्छे से समझ में आएगा।)

   कहने का अर्थ यह है कि जिस “उद्धार” की यहाँ पर, 1 तीमुथियुस 2:15, में बात की गई है, वह आत्मिक उद्धार नहीं, वरन किसी अन्य स्थिति से बचाया जाना, या सुरक्षित किया जाना, या उससे निकालकर बहाल करना, या उभारना है। इसलिए अब यह देखना होगा कि यह क्या स्थिति है जिसके बारे में यहाँ बात की जा रही है। इसे दो बातों से देखा तथा समझा जा सकता है – एक, उत्पत्ति में स्त्री के सृजे जाने के समय से आरंभ करके, परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित स्त्रियों की भूमिका के सन्दर्भ में होकर; तथा, दूसरे, इस पद के तात्कालिक सन्दर्भ के साथ।

   पहले, उनके रचे जाने के समय के विवरण और उससे संबंधित बातों को देखकर, परमेश्वर द्वारा स्त्रियों के लिए निर्धारित भूमिका को समझते हैं। आदम के लिए स्त्री की आवश्यकता का पहला उल्लेख उत्पत्ति 2:18 में आया है, और वहाँ पर परमेश्वर ने कहा, “ … मैं उसके लिये एक ऐसा सहायक बनाऊंगा जो उस से मेल खाए।” परमेश्वर का उद्देश्य स्पष्ट है – स्त्री को परमेश्वर द्वारा आदम के समान बनाई गई, उससे मेल खाने वाली, उसकी सहायक होना था। यहाँ, हमारी चर्चा के लिए महत्वपूर्ण बात है कि स्त्री की रचना से भी पहले, जब परमेश्वर ने उसके बारे में विचार किया, तभी से उसकी भूमिका आदम का “सहायक” होने की थी, न कि आदम पर प्रभुता या वर्चस्व रखने वाली होने की। जो व्यक्ति सहायक नियुक्त होता है, वह निर्णायक अथवा नियंत्रण करने वाला नहीं होता है, वरन जिसकी सहायता के लिए उसे रखा जाता है, उसकी अधीनता और आज्ञाकारिता में होकर कार्य करता है। सहायक का अधिकारी हो जाना या अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार कार्य करने वाला हो जाना, उसके लिए निर्धारित कार्य और भूमिका के विरुद्ध जाना है, अनाज्ञाकारी होना है।

    इसका यह कदापि तात्पर्य नहीं है कि स्त्री को आदम से गौण और उसकी “दासी” होने के लिए बनाया गया था – बिना स्त्री के आदम अधूरा था, स्त्री को उसका पूरक, उसकी सहायता करने वाला होना था (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:11)। दोनों, आदम और हव्वा के लिए परमेश्वर ने कार्य और भूमिकाएँ निर्धारित की थीं; उन्हें एक-दूसरे के साथ मिलकर, परस्पर सहयोग के साथ उन दायित्वों का निर्वाह करना था। बड़े या छोटे होने या एक-दूसरे पर प्रभुता रखने की भावना अथवा होड़ तो तब थी ही नहीं। यह भिन्नता, होड़, और एक का दूसरे से ऊँचा होने का प्रयास करने की भावना का प्रचलन उस पाप के कारण आया जो उन दोनों ने किया (उत्पत्ति 3:16); यह भिन्नता और प्रवृत्ति परमेश्वर की आरंभिक योजना का भाग नहीं थी।

   इसे इस प्रकार समझिए, किसी बड़ी कंपनी और कारखाने में एक मालिक होता है, और उसके नीचे अलग-अलग जिम्मेदारियों के निर्वाह के लिए अलग-अलग विभागों के अलग-अलग डायरेक्टर होते हैं – कोई आर्थिक मामले संभालता है, कोई कर्मचारियों की नियुक्ति और उनसे संबंधित समस्याओं को देखता है, कोई कच्चे माल की आपूर्ति का दायित्व निभाता है, तो कोई तैयार माल को बाहर बेचने और मुनाफा कमाने के कार्य को पूरा करता है, आदि। सभी “डायरेक्टर” हैं, सभी उसी एक मालिक के लिए कार्य कर रहे हैं, सभी के मिल-जुल कर कार्य करने से ही कंपनी और कारखाना तरक्की कर सकते हैं; कोई बड़ा या छोटा नहीं है, सभी एक दूसरे के सहायक और पूरक हैं। किन्तु जैसे ही कोई एक भी “डायरेक्टर” किसी दूसरे के विभाग में दखलंदाजी करने लगता है, अपने आप को औरों से बड़ा या अधिक महत्वपूर्ण जताने के प्रयास करने लगता है, वह सभी के लिए परेशानी उत्पन्न करता है और अन्ततः न केवल अपना, वरन औरों का था कंपनी एवं कारखाने का, और उसके मालिक का भी नुकसान कर डालता है। इसी प्रकार, परमेश्वर की मूल योजना में, संसार में पाप के प्रवेश से पहले, आदम और हव्वा के अपने-अपने कार्य और भूमिकाएँ थीं, जो परस्पर एक दूसरे की पूरक थीं, जिन्हें एक दूसरे के सहयोग से निभाया जाना था; उन्हें बड़ा-छोटा होने के लिए नहीं, साथ मिलकर काम करने के लिए रखा गया था – प्राथमिक भूमिका पहले सृजे गए आदम की थी, और हव्वा को उसका सहायक होना था, उसे आदम के साथ मिलकर परिवार बनाना था, और उस परिवार की देखभाल और परवरिश करनी थी। उनके इस साथ मिलकर कार्य करने से वे समस्त पृथ्वी और उसकी सभी प्राणियों को वश में रखने वाले बन सकते थे (उत्पत्ति 1:27-28)। अदन की वाटिका में कार्य करने, उसकी रक्षा करने, और उसके फलों में से लेकर खाने, तथा किस फल को नहीं खाना है, इसका निर्णय रखने का दायित्व परमेश्वर ने, हव्वा की सृष्टि से भी पहले, आदम को दिया था (उत्पत्ति 2:15-17), जिसे फिर हव्वा की सृष्टि के पश्चात उसके साथ बाँटा नहीं गया; यह आदम का दायित्व था, हव्वा का नहीं।

English Translation

Understanding Being Saved in Childbearing, 1 Timothy 2:15 - Part (1)

    Question: What does it mean that women will be saved in childbearing, as written in 1 Timothy 2:15?

Answer:

    The thing stated in this verse has perplexed many, and many commentaries and explanatory notes have given various answers to clarify this statement. I am giving here what the Lord has given to me through praying about this and through some teachings given by some men of God. I hope the answer would be acceptable to you. To understand it, some other related things need to be seen and understood first; only then, by putting those things together and in a correct perspective can we properly understand that which is stated in this verse.

    Firstly, being “saved” in childbearing is not that spiritual salvation which has been stated in Romans 10:9-13 and other places in God’s Word. It is common sense and knowledge that not every woman who has given birth to a child is a “saved” woman; nor is it necessary that every saved woman will always have given birth to a child. The confusion and difficulty related to this verse is because of the word “saved” used here. In the original Greek language, the word that has been translated as “saved” here is ‘sodezo’ which commonly means to be ‘delivered’ or ‘saved’. But this is not the only meaning or sense that has been attributed to this word in God’s Word. For example:

·        “made well” i.e., to be healed in Matthew 9:21; Luke 8:50; and Acts 4:9

·        “save yourself” i.e., to be delivered out of a predicament or serious situation, in Matthew 27:40

·        “healed” i.e., restored to health, in Mark 5:23

·        “deliver me” i.e., bring me out and restore me, in 2 Timothy 4:18

In other words, the “saved” written in 1 Timothy 2:15 is not meant to be for spiritual salvation, but is meant to convey being delivered, or brought out of, or made safe from something else, from a particular situation. Therefore now, we need to identify what that particular situation is, that is being alluded to here. This can be done by looking at two related things – firstly, starting with the role of women envisaged and determined by God since the time of their being created in Genesis; and secondly by looking at this verse in its immediate context.

First, let us understand the role of women envisaged and determined by God as made evident in the events related to their creation. The first mention of the need for a woman to be with Adam is given in Genesis 2:18; there God says, “… I will make him a helper comparable to him.” The purpose of God is very clear – the woman was to be one created by God, as comparable to Adam, so as to function as Adam’s helper. Here, in this discussion, it is important to note that even prior to the creation of a woman, when God envisaged about her, since then she was meant to be Adam’s “helper”; and not one who would lord over him or exercise superiority over him. The person appointed as “helper”, is neither supposed to be the “decision maker” nor the one exercising control; rather that person is supposed to work under and be obedient to the one he has been appointed as a helper. For a “helper” to become an independent officer and function as per his own will instead of according to the instructions and will of the person he is meant to help, is to go contrary to his assigned role, and to become disobedient.

Now, this does not in any way mean that the woman was created to be inferior to man and function as his “slave” – Adam was ‘incomplete’ without the woman, the woman was made to make him ‘complete’ and help him (1 Corinthians 11:11). For both, Adam and Eve, God had assigned roles and responsibilities to fulfill; they had to work together, cooperating with each other and fulfill those responsibilities. There was no thought or question of superior or inferior, or of one dominating the other. This differentiation and competition, and one trying to dominate the other came about due to the sin they committed (Genesis 3:16); this differentiation and tendency was not a part of God’s original plan for them.

To understand this, consider an illustration: Every large business company production house has an owner, and under the owner, look after and manage various activities, are various departments and their respective “Directors” – someone to look after the finances, someone to manage the human resources and employees, someone else to look after the procuring of raw materials, someone else to sell the finished products and promote the company, etc. All of these department heads are “Directors”, they are all working for the same owner, and it is only through their collective and collaborative working that the business house will do well, will prosper. None of the “Directors” is ‘bigger’ or ‘smaller’ than the other; they all complement each other. But the moment any one of these "Directors" starts to interfere in the functioning of another department, starts to assert himself as bigger or more important than another, problems start, which will not only cause him harm but will also harm the functioning of the whole business house. Similarly, in His original plan, prior to the entrance of sin into the world, Adam and Eve had their works and responsibilities, and mutually they helped and complemented each other. They were not meant to indulge in being playing 'superior' or 'inferior' but were meant to work and fulfill their responsibilities with each other's cooperation and help - the primary role was of the first created Adam, and Eve was meant to be his "helper"; she was to join with Adam to build a family and home with him; she was to be the 'home-maker' and to nurture the family. Through their working together, they were to subdue the whole earth and have dominion over all other created beings on earth (Genesis 1:27-28). To work in the Garden of Eden and to safe-guard it, to decide which fruit is to be eaten and which is not to be eaten, was the responsibility given to Adam (Genesis 2:15-17), even before the creation of Eve; subsequent to the creation of Eve, Adam's this responsibility was not shared with Eve. This was Adam's responsibility, and not Eve's since the very beginning.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने फसह के पर्व के भोज के समय में अपने शिष्यों से चर्चा करते समय उनसे परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के विषय, जिसे वे निकट भविष्य में प्राप्त करने वाले थे, आगे कहा, “परन्तु सहायक अर्थात पवित्र आत्मा जिसे पिता मेरे नाम से भेजेगा, वह तुम्हें सब बातें सिखाएगा, और जो कुछ मैं ने तुम से कहा है, वह सब तुम्हें स्मरण कराएगा” (यूहन्ना 14:26)। इस पद से हम परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा (जिसे, जैसा कि यहाँ भी लिखा गया है, कोई मनुष्य नहीं वरन पिता परमेश्वर ही प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों में भेजेगा), द्वारा मसीही विश्वासी को प्रभु का वचन सिखाने की कार्य-विधि को देखते हैं:

• “वह तुम्हें सब बातें सिखाएगा” - पवित्र आत्मा ही 'तुम्हें' अर्थात प्रभु के शिष्यों को सब बातें सिखाता है। अर्थात वह बिना किसी भेदभाव या पक्षपात के सभी शिष्यों को समानता से प्रभु की सभी बातें सिखाने के लिए है। ध्यान कीजिए यहाँ यह नहीं कहा गया है कि जो शिष्य अलग से कोई कार्य करेंगे या कोई रीति पूरी करेंगे उन्हें सिखाएगा; या उससे मिलने वाली वचन की यह शिक्षा कुछ विशेष चुने हुए शिष्यों ही के लिए है, अन्य के लिए नहीं। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु के हर शिष्य को सभी बातें सिखाएगा। सीखना परिश्रम से, बारंबार अध्ययन करने और परस्पर चर्चा करने से ही होता है; पुस्तक हाथ में पकड़ लेने या उसका सिरहाना बना लेने, या लापरवाही से कभी-कभार पढ़ लेने से सीखना नहीं हो सकता है। बारंबार पढ़ना, लिखी बातों का पालन करना, दिए गए अभ्यास को करके शिक्षक को दिखाना और उसकी जाँच करवाना होता है। सीखना एक प्रक्रिया है, जिसका निर्वाह करना आवश्यक है; और इसके लिए पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासियों का शिक्षक है। सीखने में विद्यार्थियों द्वारा गलतियाँ होती हैं, उनके कार्य में कमी रह जाती है। तब शिक्षक उन गलतियों को सुधार कर संबंधित अध्ययन और निर्धारित कार्य को पुनः करने को देता है। इसमें समय और सतत प्रयास की आवश्यकता होती है; किन्तु इस प्रक्रिया से निकले बिना सीखना नहीं होने पाता है। ठीक इसी प्रक्रिया का निर्वाह पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सामर्थ्य से परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन और मसीही सेवकाई से संबंधित बाइबल में दिए गए परमेश्वर के निर्देशों के पालन करने में भी किया जाता है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासी में निवास करता है, और जब तक वह विश्वासी उसके साथ सहयोग करता है, उसका आज्ञाकारी रहता है, पवित्र आत्मा उसका मार्गदर्शन करता है, उसे सिखाता है, सुधारता है, सक्षम तथा उन्नत करता रहता है। 

• “जो कुछ मैं ने तुम से कहा है, वह सब तुम्हें स्मरण कराएगा” - आज बहुत से मत और डिनॉमिनेशंस में यह गलत शिक्षा और व्यवहार बहुत आम है कि उनके अनुयायी ये दावे करते हैं कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा ने कुछ विशिष्ट कहा है, या उन्हें कोई नई शिक्षा दी है, या उन्हें कोई नया दर्शन मिला है - ऐसी बातें और भविष्यवाणियाँ जो बाइबल में नहीं दी गई हैं, जिन्हें न प्रभु यीशु ने और न ही उनके शिष्यों अथवा प्रेरितों, या वचन की पुस्तकें लिखने वालों ने कहा और लिखा है। उनकी इन बातों से प्रभावित होकर बहुत से लोग भी ऐसे अनुभवों की लालसाएं करने लगते हैं, उनके समान करने के प्रयासों में लग जाते हैं। जबकि यह विचार, व्यवहार, और शिक्षा बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं है, सर्वथा अनुचित और गलत है। आज हमारे हाथों में जो परमेश्वर का वचन है वह अधूरा नहीं संपूर्ण है; हर स्थान, समय, और सभ्यता के लिए, सभी लोगों को जीवन और भक्ति से संबंधित सब कुछ सिखाने, संसार की सड़ाहट से बचाने, और ईश्वरीय स्वभाव का संभागी बनाने के लिए पर्याप्त है (2 पतरस 1:2-4)। उसमें और कुछ भी नया जोड़ने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। वचन में चेतावनी है कि जो भी इसमें कुछ जोड़ेगा, या इस में से कुछ निकालेगा, उसे यह करने के लिए परमेश्वर के दंड का भागी होना पड़ेगा (व्यवस्थाविवरण 12:32; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19)। इस पद में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने स्पष्ट कहा है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की शिक्षा का तरीका केवल प्रभु द्वारा कही गई बातों को स्मरण करवाने का; उनके आधार पर सिखाने का है; इससे अतिरिक्त या इससे पृथक नहीं। प्रभु यीशु ने यह नहीं कहा कि वह अपनी ओर से शिष्यों को कोई नई शिक्षाएं, कोई नए दर्शन देगा, स्थापित वचन में अपने द्वारा कोई नई बात जोड़ेगा। इसकी पुष्टि में, प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपनी महान आज्ञा में, अपने स्वर्गारोहण के समय शिष्यों से कहा कि वे जाकर और शिष्य बनाएं, तथा जो शिष्य बनते हैं उन्हें प्रभु यीशु की बातें सिखाएं (मत्ती 28:18-20); न कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा नई शिक्षाएं, नए दर्शन और नई भविष्यवाणियाँ प्राप्त करने के लिए लालसा, परिश्रम, और प्रयास करने वाले बनना सिखाएं। 

तात्पर्य यह है कि पहले प्रभु की बातों को पढ़ो और मन में बसाओ (कुलुस्सियों 3:16)। जो और जितना मन में बसा हुआ है, पवित्र आत्मा उसे ही स्मरण करवाने के द्वारा सिखाएगा। इस पद से कुछ ऊपर यूहन्ना 14:21, 23 में प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने शिष्यों से कहा कि जो उसके वचन से प्रेम करता है, वही है जो वास्तविकता में प्रभु से प्रेम करता है, और प्रभु तथा पिता परमेश्वर ऐसे प्रेम करने वालों के साथ रहते हैं। यदि वचन अधिकाई से मन में बस हुआ होगा तो स्मरण करवाने और सिखाने के लिए अधिक सामग्री होगी, बेहतर सीखने पाएंगे। यदि वचन मन में कम होगा तो पवित्र आत्मा के पास स्मरण करवाने और सिखाने के लिए कम सामग्री होगी, और कम ही सीखने पाएंगे। जिस शिष्य ने वचन जितना अधिक अपने मन में बसा रखा है, समय, परिस्थिति, तथा आवश्यकता के अनुसार परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को उसे उतना अधिक और अच्छा सिखाने, तथा उपयोग करवाने का अवसर रहेगा।

 

इसीलिए, यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर के वचन, बाइबल को अपने जीवन में प्राथमिकता दीजिए। वचन को केवल औपचारिकता निभाते हुए पढ़ने वाले ही नहीं, वरन लगन एवं गंभीरता से वचन का अध्ययन तथा पालन करने वाले बनिए। मसीही विश्वासी के अंदर निवास करने वाला पवित्र आत्मा प्रत्येक विश्वासी को वचन सिखाने के लिए ही दिया गया है। यदि आप उसके साथ मिलकर प्रयास और परिश्रम करने के लिए तैयार हैं तो वह अवश्य ही आपको भी सिखाएगा क्योंकि वह तो सभी को सिखाना चाहता है और सभी मसीही विश्वासियों को सिखाता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 2:10-15; 2 तिमुथियुस 3:16-17)।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो थोड़ा थम कर विचार कीजिए, क्या मसीही विश्वास के अतिरिक्त आपको कहीं और यह अद्भुत और विलक्षण आशीषों से भरा सौभाग्य प्राप्त होगा, कि स्वयं परमेश्वर आप में आ कर सर्वदा के लिए निवास करे; आपको अपना वचन सिखाए; फिर आप में होकर अपने आप को औरों पर प्रकट करे, अपने अद्भुत कार्य करे, जिससे आपको आशीषों से भर सके? इसलिए अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करके, उनके लिए प्रभु से क्षमा माँगकर, अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आप अपने पापों के अंगीकार और पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से समर्पण की प्रार्थना कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए मेरे सभी पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” प्रभु की शिष्यता तथा मन परिवर्तन के लिए सच्चे पश्चाताप और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Holy Spirit as Teacher - John 14:26

We are studying the role, help, and guidance provided by the Holy Spirit in the life of a true, obedient, and committed disciple of Christ Jesus, for his life and Christian ministry. We have seen that the Holy Spirit comes to reside in every Believer, the moment his is saved, is Born-Again; and the Holy Spirit has two kinds of roles in the Believer’s life as given by the Lord Jesus in His discourse in John chapter 14 and 16. In John 14 we see the role of the Holy Spirit in the personal life of the Believer; and in John 16 is given the role in the life of a Believer’s ministry. We have seen from John 14:16-17 about His role in a Believer’s personal life, that - He is freely and willingly given by God to His Believers, and is not obtained through any human efforts or methods; having once come to reside in a Believer, the Holy Spirit remains in and with him for life; is the Believer’s helper in living out his life of Christian faith, and not his servant or substitute. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth; He never comes to reside in any worldly or unsaved person - no matter how religious or good that person may be and whatever efforts he may make to have the Holy Spirit; He only resides in and stays with the actual Christian Believers. Today, we will see the role of the Holy Spirit related to a Christian Believer learning the Word of God.

During the Passover feast, while telling them about the Holy Spirit, whom they were going to receive in the near future, the Lord Jesus further stated, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). Here, in this verse, we see two main things. Firstly, it is reiterated that the Holy Spirit is sent by God, i.e., He does not come through any man, but only when and to whom God sends Him. Secondly, this verse tells us the method a Christian Believer learns the Word of God through the Holy Spirit. The way the Holy Spirit teaches God’s people, God’s Word is:

• “He will teach you all things” - The Lord Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit will teach “you all things” i.e., those who are the disciples of Christ Jesus. Implied in this statement is that all of the disciples will be taught similarly, without any discrimination, all the things. This is very important to take note of; pay attention that the Lord has not said that those disciples who do some extra things or fulfill some particular ritual or process, the Holy Spirit will teach only them and not the others, or teach them better and differently. The Holy Spirit will teach all things to every disciple of the Lord. It is general knowledge that learning is only through laboring about it, studying the topic repeatedly, and discussing what has been read or learnt with others. No one can learn anything by being casual and careless about it, reading occasionally, or just keeping the text-book without reading it regularly and diligently. While learning, the person has to read and go through the lesson repeatedly, do the exercises that have been instructed in the lesson, and have a review and evaluation done by the instructor. Learning is a process, and the process has to be fulfilled; the Holy Spirit guides the Believer through this process. While learning all students make mistakes, do lack in some things; and then the instructor points out those mistakes and short-comings, guides how to correct them, and takes them through the lesson again. Learning requires time, patience, practice, and efforts; and without undergoing this process learning does not happen. The same holds true for learning from the Holy Spirit about God’s Word, about the way of doing the assigned ministry, and about being obedient to God’s instructions in living the Christian life of faith and commitment. The Holy Spirit resides in every Christian Believer, but for Him to be able to help and guide the Believer, the person has to learn to be sensitive to His promptings, cooperative and obedient to His instructions, be willing and prepared to face the situations He takes one through, persevering in repeatedly handling difficulties and opposition, etc.; only then does the Believer learn, improve, and grow in faith and maturity. 

• “bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” - These days it is a very commonly seen thing amongst some sects and denominations, that their members and followers claim to have received some new revelation or teaching or specific instructions etc., from the Holy Spirit, things that have never been said or written by the authors of the books of the Bible, and prophecies that have never been made in the Bible - this is inconsistent with the Word of God and with the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. It is an unBiblical, wrong teaching and behaviour. Many people, often the newcomers to Christianity are misled and misguided into having similar ambitions and exhibiting similar behaviour. This is misusing the name and work of the Holy Spirit, and committing the sin of adding to the Word of God. the Word of God that we have in our hands today is complete and final in every aspect; and is sufficient for people of every place, time, civilization, to teach them all that is required for life and godliness, to help them escape the corruption of the world, and make them partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:2-4). There is no rational or need to add anything new to it; therefore, God will never give any new revelations or prophecies outside of what He has already provided in His Word. Anyone attempting to add to God’s Word or to remove anything from it will have to face God’s punishment for this (Deuteronomy 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19). In this verse that we are looking at, the Lord Jesus has very clearly said that the Holy Spirit will teach the disciples by reminding them of what the Lord had said; He will teach them what has already been said by the Lord; the Holy Spirit will never teach anything other than that or extra. The Lord Jesus never said that the Holy Spirit will give any new teachings or visions or revelations to the disciples, or would add anything to God’s Word later on. This is affirmed by what the Lord Jesus said in His ‘Great Commission’ instructions to the disciples - that they should make other disciples, and to those who choose to become the Lord’s disciples, teach what the Lord Jesus had taught them (Matthew 28:18-20). The Lord never said to them that they should teach and encourage the new disciples to seek new teachings, revelations, prophecies etc., be desirous of such experiences, to strive to engage in such things. Therefore, any such teachings and behavior in the name of the Holy Spirit or the Lord is contrary to what they have said and got written in the Bible, and is unacceptable.

The lesson to learn is that the disciples, the Believers, should first read and stablish in their hearts and minds the words of the Lord (Colossians 3:16). Whatever, and as much as we store up in our hearts and minds, the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us about it. The more of God’s Word we have within ourselves, the better off we will be, and if we don’t store up much of the Lord’s Word within us, the Holy Spirit will also not have much to teach us from, and neither will He be able to bring to our remembrance the required Word according to the need or circumstances we may be in. So, a disciple’s primary responsibility to learn from the Holy Spirit is to first store up as much of God’s Word as he can within himself. Just a few verses before this verse, in John 14:21, 23 the Lord Jesus had said to His disciples that the one who loves His Word, is the one who actually loves the Lord, and the Lord and God the Father abide with such a person.

Therefore, if you are a Christian Believer, give God’s Word the priority it ought to have in your life. Do not just read the Bible to fulfill a formality, but read it to learn it, to store up its teachings within you, and to obey them. The Holy Spirit has been given to every Believer to help, guide, and teach him (1 Corinthians 2:10-15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17); but He can do this only when the person is willing to cooperate with Him and strive as He directs.

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
