अन्य-भाषाएं - पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने का प्रमाण नहीं

हम पिछले लेखों से देखते आ रहे हैं कि बालकों के समान अपरिपक्व मसीही विश्वासियों की एक पहचान यह भी है कि वे बहुत सरलता से भ्रामक शिक्षाओं द्वारा बहकाए तथा गलत बातों में भटकाए जाते हैं। इन भ्रामक शिक्षाओं को शैतान और उस के दूत झूठे प्रेरितों और प्रभु के लोगों का भेस धारण कर के प्रस्तुत करते हैं। ये लोग, और उनकी शिक्षाएं, दोनों ही बहुत आकर्षक, रोचक, और ज्ञानवान, यहाँ तक कि भक्तिपूर्ण और श्रद्धापूर्ण भी प्रतीत हो सकती हैं, किन्तु साथ ही उनमें अवश्य ही बाइबल की बातों के अतिरिक्त भी बातें डली हुई होती हैं। इन गलत या भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के मुख्य स्वरूपों के बारे में, जिन्हें शैतान और उसके लोग प्रभु यीशु के झूठे प्रेरित, धर्म के सेवक, और ज्योतिर्मय स्‍वर्गदूतों का रूप धारण कर के बताते और सिखाते हैं, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने प्रेरित पौलुस के द्वारा 2 कुरिन्थियों 11:4 में लिखवाया है कि, “यदि कोई तुम्हारे पास आकर, किसी दूसरे यीशु को प्रचार करे, जिस का प्रचार हम ने नहीं किया: या कोई और आत्मा तुम्हें मिले; जो पहिले न मिला था; या और कोई सुसमाचार जिसे तुम ने पहिले न माना था, तो तुम्हारा सहना ठीक होता”। अर्थात, इन भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के, गलत उपदेशों के, मुख्यतः तीन विषय, होते हैं - प्रभु यीशु मसीह, पवित्र आत्मा, और सुसमाचार। साथ ही इस पद में सच्चाई को पहचानने और शैतान के झूठ से बचने के लिए एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी दी गई है। इस पद में यह भी लिखा है कि इन तीनों विषयों के बारे में शैतान की युक्तियों के जो यथार्थ और सत्य हैं, वे सब वचन में पहले से ही बता दिए गए हैं। इसलिए वचन से देखने, जाँचने, शिक्षाओं को परखने के द्वारा सही और गलत की पहचान करना कठिन नहीं है।

पिछले लेखों में हमने इन गलत शिक्षा देने वाले लोगों के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु से संबंधित सिखाई जाने वाली गलत शिक्षाओं को देखने के बाद, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित सामान्यतः बताई और सिखाई जाने वाली गलत शिक्षाओं की वास्तविकता को वचन की बातों से देखना आरंभ किया है। हम देख चुके हैं कि प्रत्येक सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी के नया जन्म या उद्धार पाते ही, तुरंत उसके उद्धार पाने के पल से ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा अपनी संपूर्णता में आकर उसके अंदर निवास करने लगता है, और उसी में बना रहता है, उसे कभी छोड़ कर नहीं जाता है; और इसी को पवित्र आत्मा से भरना या पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा पाना भी कहते हैं। वचन स्पष्ट है कि पवित्र आत्मा से भरना या उससे बपतिस्मा पाना कोई दूसरा या अतिरिक्त अनुभव नहीं है, वरन उद्धार के साथ ही सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी में पवित्र आत्मा का आकर निवास करना ही है। इन गलत शिक्षकों की एक और बहुत प्रचलित और बल पूर्वक कही जाने वाले बात है “अन्य-भाषाओं” में बोलना, और उन लोगों के द्वारा “अन्य-भाषाओं” को अलौकिक भाषाएं बताना। इसके बारे में पिछले लेख में हम देख चुके हैं कि यह भी एक ऐसी गलत शिक्षा है जिसका वचन से कोई समर्थन या आधार नहीं है। प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में जो अन्य भाषाएं बोली गईं, वे पृथ्वी ही की भाषाएं और उनकी बोलियाँ थीं; कोई अलौकिक भाषा नहीं। हमने यह भी देखा था कि वचन में इस शिक्षा का भी कोई आधार या समर्थन नहीं है कि “अन्य-भाषाएं” प्रार्थना की भाषाएं हैं।

एक अन्य संबंधित गलत शिक्षा उन लोगों के द्वारा बल-पूर्वक यह सिखाना है कि अन्य-भाषाएं बोलना ही पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने का प्रमाण है। आज हम इसी के विषय परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से देखेंगे। यदि आप 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:4-11 को देखेंगे, जो पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा वचन की सेवकाई के लिए दिए जाने वाले आत्मिक वरदानों के बारे में है, तो उसके 10 पद से यह स्पष्ट हो जाएगा कि अन्य-भाषा में बोलना, अन्य आत्मिक वरदानों के समान ही पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिया गया एक आत्मिक वरदान है। साथ ही इसी खंड में पद 8 से 10 में हर आत्मिक वरदान के लिए, बारंबार “किसी को” भी लिखा गया है; जो यह दिखाता है कि हर किसी को एक ही समान आत्मिक वरदान नहीं दिए गए, किसी को एक, किसी अन्य को कोई और, और इसी प्रकार भिन्न लोगों को भिन्न आत्मिक वरदान, उनकी सेवकाई के अनुसार, पवित्र आत्मा की इच्छा के अनुसार (पद 11) दिए गए हैं। बाइबल का यह खंड स्पष्ट है कि हर किसी को अन्य-भाषा में बात करने का वरदान नहीं दिया गया है। साथ ही यहाँ पर अन्य भाषाओं के विषय ऐसी कोई बात या कोई संकेत तक भी नहीं है जिसके आधार पर यह निष्कर्ष निकाला जाए कि अन्य-भाषा में बोलना पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने का प्रमाण है। व्यक्ति में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति का प्रमाण तो उसका बदला हुआ जीवन, उसका पवित्र आत्मा के चलाए चलना और शारीरिक लालसाओं और अभिलाषाओं से दूर हो जाना, उसके जीवन में दिखने वाले आत्मा के फल हैं (गलातियों 5:22-26)।

परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में गलत शिक्षाएं फैलाने वाले ये लोग अपने इस दावे को “प्रमाणित” करने के लिए एक बहुत बड़ा झूठ बोलते हैं। वे दावे के साथ कहते हैं कि वचन में जब भी किसी ने पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त किया है, उससे परिपूर्ण हुआ है, तो उसने अवश्य ही अन्य-भाषाएं भी बोली हैं। इसलिए यह मानने योग्य बात और प्रमाण है कि अन्य-भाषा बोलना ही पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने का प्रमाण है। इस संदर्भ में शायद ही कभी किसी ने बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान (प्रेरितों 17:11) इस बात की सच्चाई को जाँचने और उनके दावे की पुष्टि करने का प्रयास किया होगा - न तो उनके अपने साथियों और अनुयायियों ने, और न ही उन्होंने जिन्हें ये बड़ी हिम्मत के साथ यह बात कहते हैं।

जब हम वचन से उनके इस दावे को परखते हैं तो पाते हैं कि उनका यह तर्क भी कि वचन में जब भी पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना आया है, साथ ही अन्य-भाषाएं बोलना भी आया है, इसी प्रकार से निराधार है। नए नियम में पवित्र आत्मा के किसी पर आने का सबसे पहला उल्लेख प्रभु यीशु की माता मरियम के लिए है (लूका 1:35), दूसरा उल्लेख यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाली की माता इलीशिबा का है (लूका 1:41), और तीसरा यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले के पिता ज़कर्याह का है (लूका 1:67); किन्तु इन तीनों आरंभिक घटनाओं में कहीं कोई उल्लेख नहीं है कि इन में से किसी ने कभी कोई “अन्य भाषा” बोली - न तो उस समय जब वे पवित्र आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हुए, और न ही उसके बाद किसी अन्य अवसर पर।

इसी प्रकार से बिना अन्य भाषा बोले पवित्र आत्मा से भरने के लिए प्रेरितों के कार्य में अन्य स्थानों पर भी आया है:

पुराने नियम में पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने पर साथ ही अन्य भाषा में बोलने का भी कोई उदाहरण नहीं है:

परमेश्वर के वचन के ये सभी हवाले उनके इस दावे के बिलकुल झूठ और वचन का दुरुपयोग होने, लोगों को बहकाने और भरमाने का कार्य होने को दिखा देते हैं।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आपके लिए यह जानना और समझना अति-आवश्यक है कि आप परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित इन गलत शिक्षाओं में न पड़ जाएं; न खुद भरमाए जाएं, और न ही आपके द्वारा कोई और भरमाया जाए। लोगों द्वारा कही जाने वाले ही नहीं, वरन वचन में लिखी हुई बातों पर भी ध्यान दें, और लोगों की बातों को वचन की बातों से मिला कर जाँचें और परखें। यदि आप इन गलत शिक्षाओं में पड़ चुके हैं, तो अभी वचन के अध्ययन और बात को जाँच-परख कर, सही शिक्षा को, उसी के पालन को अपना लें।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Speaking in ‘Tongues’ is NOT Proof of Receiving the Holy Spirit

We have been seeing from the previous articles that one of the characteristics of child-like immature Christians is that they are very easily misled into deceptive and false teachings. Satan and his followers disguise themselves as false apostles, ministers of righteousness, and angels of light to present these deceptive, false teachings. These deceivers and their teachings are attractive, appealing, seemingly knowledgeable, and even have an appearance of being reverential and righteous; but there will always be some extra-Biblical teachings cleverly mixed up in them. About these deceptive, false teachings, God the Holy Spirit had it written through the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:4 “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!” that they are mainly about three topics, the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Gospel. To recognize the truth and escape falling for Satan’s deception, along with these three topics, a very important point for proper discernment has also been stated in this verse: the facts and truth about these three have already been given in God’s Word. Therefore, anything that is not already in God’s Word is satanic, a corruption brought in by the false teachers, and is not to be accepted.

In the preceding articles we had first seen the various false teachings spread about the Lord Jesus, and had then started to look into the false teachings about the Holy Spirit. We have seen that the Holy Spirit is given to every truly Born-Again Christian Believer at the moment of his being saved; God the Holy Spirit comes to reside in him forever in all His fullness, and never leaves him. We have also seen that the Word of God is very clear that being “filled with the Holy Spirit” and “baptism with the Holy Spirit'' are not “second experiences” or something extra, but just the same as the Holy Spirit coming to reside in the Believer on being saved; and Biblically there is nothing like the very emphatically preached and taught “Baptism of the Holy Spirit.” This too is a false teaching that has no basis or affirmation from the Word of God. In the last article we have considered the facts and truth regarding another related wrong teaching, again insisted upon and very emphatically taught by these preachers and teachers of false doctrines - the “speaking in tongues” and seen from the Word of God that the claims of these preachers that these are super-natural languages, and Prayer languages” are unfounded and baseless. The languages spoken by the disciples in Acts 2, were known and recognized languages of earth.

There is another related wrong teaching, a false doctrine, also very emphatically preached and taught, that speaking in “tongues” is the proof of having received the Holy Spirit. We will examine this claim today from the Bible. If you look at 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, which is a passage about the different gifts the Holy Spirit gives to the Christian Believers, then it is very clear from verse 10 that speaking in “tongues” is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, like any of the other gifts mentioned here. Moreover, note that in this passage, from verse 8 to 10, with every gift, is also written “to some”, which is a clear indication that not everybody receives the same gift, different gifts are given to different people, as the Holy Spirit decides (verse 11). This passage from the Bible makes it quite clear that every Believer has not been given the gift of speaking in “tongues”. There is nothing stated or indicated in this passage that would suggest that speaking in “tongues” is the proof of having received the Holy Spirit. The proof of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a person is his changed life, his living and walking under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and moving away from the worldly desires and living; the presence of fruits of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life is the proof of the Holy Spirit being present (Galatians 5:22-26).

These people who spread false teachings and wrong doctrines about the Holy Spirit, to corroborate their false claim, speak a big lie, stating it as a fact of God’s Word. They say and claim that in the Bible, whenever anyone has received the Holy Spirit, they have also spoken in “tongues”; therefore, this association is proof of what they say and claim. But as the Believers in Berea had done, has anyone ever made an effort to cross-check and verify their claim, and confirm it’s being true or false? Even those who so emphatically and courageously make this claim, and their followers would never have tried to actually check it out from the Word of God!

When we cross-check their claim from the Word of God, the Bible, that everyone who received the Holy Spirit also spoke in “tongues”, it becomes evident that like their other claims about receiving the Holy Spirit, this one too is unfounded and baseless. In the New Testament, the first occurrence of the Holy Spirit coming upon or filling a person is about Mary, the mother of Lord Jesus (Luke 1:35), the second is of Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist (Luke 1:41), and the third is of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist (Luke 1:67); but in none of these instances did anyone ever speak in “tongues” - neither at the time when they received the Holy Spirit, nor at any other occasion subsequently.

Similarly, in the Book of Acts too, there are instances when a person was “filled” with the Holy Spirit, but did not speak in “tongues”:

Acts 8:17 - the Samaritans coming to faith in the Lord and receiving the Holy Spirit
Acts 9:17 - Paul

In the Old Testament, there is no occurrence of anyone speaking in tongues on receiving the Holy Spirit:

These references from the bible expose the hollowness of their claim, and how it is only a lie spread to deceive and mislead people into unBiblical teachings and doctrines.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is very essential for you to know and learn that you do not get beguiled and misled into wrong teachings and doctrines about the Holy Spirit; neither should you get deceived, nor should anyone else be deceived through you. Take note of the things written in God’s Word, not on things spoken by the people; always cross-check and verify all messages and teachings from the Word of God. If you have already been entangled in wrong teachings, then by cross-checking and verifying them from the Word of God, hold to only that which is the truth, follow it, and reject the rest.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

अन्य-भाषाओं के विषय सीखने और समझने के लिए हमें उनके प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के मध्य पहले प्रकटीकरण, प्रेरितों 2:4-11 का, उसके संदर्भ और वहाँ पर “भाषा” के लिए प्रयोग किए गए मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्दों का उनके अर्थ के साथ विश्लेषण करना आवश्यक है। यह करने के बाद ही हम सही निष्कर्ष पर पहुँच सकते हैं।

प्रेरितों के काम के इस खंड (प्रेरितों 2:4-11) में, इन पदों में, मूल यूनानी भाषा में दो महत्वपूर्ण शब्द प्रयोग किए गए हैं, किन्तु हिन्दी में दोनों ही का अनुवाद “भाषा” किया गया है। ये शब्द हैं ग्लौसा (Tongue/Glossa), जिसका यहाँ पर और वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर, मनुष्यों द्वारा बोली जाने वाली कोई भाषा के अर्थ में प्रयोग किया गया है। वास्तव में ग्लौसा शब्द का शब्दार्थ होता है “जीभ”; और इसे “जीभ के समान दिखने वाली” किसी वस्तु के लिए भी प्रयोग किया जाता है, जैसा कि पद 3 में हुआ है; और इसे जीभ से निकलने वाले शब्द या स्वरों के लिए भी प्रयोग किया जाता है। और इन पदों में प्रयोग किया गया दूसरा शब्द है डियालेकटौस (Language/Dialektos), बोली, जिसका अर्थ किसी बोली जाने वाली मुख्य भाषा का एक उप-स्वरूप या ‘बोली’ होता है। उदाहरण के लिए पूरे उत्तर भारत में बोली जाने वाली भाषा “हिन्दी” है; उत्तराखंड के मैदानी इलाकों से लेकर पूर्व में बिहार तक हिन्दी ही बोली जाती है। किन्तु जैसे-जैसे भौगोलिक क्षेत्र बदलते हैं, उस हिन्दी का स्वरूप भिन्न होता जाता है, मुख्य हिन्दी भाषा की बोलियाँ भिन्न होती चली जाती हैं। और हिन्दी की उन बोलियों के द्वारा यह पहचाना जा सकता है कि हिन्दी बोलने वाला वह व्यक्ति उत्तर भारत के किस क्षेत्र का है। अर्थात मुख्य भाषा का ही एक भिन्न स्वरूप बोली है। पद 4 और 11 में मुख्य भाषा दिखाने वाला शब्द गलौसा शब्द प्रयोग किया गया है; किन्तु, पद 6 और 8 में मुख्य भाषा के भिन्न स्वरूप “बोली” को दिखाने वाला शब्द डियालेकटौस प्रयोग किया गया है।

यद्यपि यदि केवल इसके मूल अर्थ के अनुसार देखें तो ग्लौसा शब्द जीभ या मुँह से निकलने वाले हर शब्द के लिए सही है; और इसी अभिप्राय का प्रयोग करते हुए ये गलत शिक्षाओं को देने वाले उनकी जीभ या मुँह से निकलने वाले अज्ञात और निरर्थक शब्दों को भी “भाषा” कहते हैं। किन्तु शेष पदों के साथ मिला कर देखने से यह स्पष्ट है कि इन पदों में ग्लौसा का अर्थ पृथ्वी की ज्ञात और पहचानी जाने वाली भाषा है, कोई अलौकिक भाषा, अथवा मुँह से निकाली जाने वाली कोई भी ध्वनि नहीं।

पद 4 में लिखा है कि उस स्थान पर एकत्रित सभी जन पवित्र आत्मा से भरने के साथ ही अन्य-अन्य भाषाओं (ग्लौसा) में बोलने लग गए।

पद 5-8 में लिखा है कि उस पिन्तेकुस्त के पर्व को मनाने के समय पर संसार के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से आए हुए यहूदी यरूशलेम में एकत्रित थे; और साथ ही उन्हें “भक्त यहूदी” कहा गया है। पद 6 और 8 में हिन्दी में जो “भाषा” लिखा गया है वह मूल यूनानी में “डियालेकटौस”, अर्थात ‘बोली’ है। इसे इससे आगे के पदों के साथ अधिक सरलता से समझा जा सकता है। ये लोग अचंभित होकर कहने लगे कि “इस्राएल के गलील इलाके के रहने वाले ये लोग, अपनी गलीली बोली के स्थान पर, हमारी “बोली” (डियालेकटौस) कैसे बोलने लग गए?” क्योंकि उन सभी भक्त यहूदियों को शिष्यों के मुँह से अपनी-अपनी जन्म-भूमि की बोलियाँ (डियालेकटौस) सुनाई दे रही थीं।

पद 9-10 में पृथ्वी के 15 विभिन्न क्षेत्रों या भू-भागों का नाम दिया गया है जहाँ के लोग उस समय यरूशलेम में एकत्रित थे। और इन सभी लोगों को - जो हजारों की संख्या में थे (3000 का तो उद्धार हुआ और उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया), सभी को अपनी-अपनी ग्लौसा और डियालेकटौस में सुनाई दे रहा था कि प्रभु यीशु के वे शिष्य क्या कह रहे हैं।

पद 11 में फिर से ग्लौसा अर्थात भाषा शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है और साथ ही पवित्र आत्मा ने यह भी और स्पष्ट कर दिया है कि क्यों यह ग्लौसा पृथ्वी की ही भाषाएं थीं, स्वर्गीय या दिव्य भाषाएं नहीं थीं। इसके तीन प्रमाण पवित्र आत्मा ने यहाँ लिखवाए हैं:

1. जैसा हम ऊपर पद 6 और 8 में देख चुके हैं, न केवल उन लोगों ने मुख्य भाषाएं बोलीं, किन्तु साथ ही उन मुख्य भाषाओं से संबंधित ‘बोलियाँ’ या उन भाषाओं के क्षेत्रीय स्वरूपों को भी बोला। किन्तु आज “अन्य-भाषा” को पृथ्वी से बाहर की भाषा कहने वालों में कभी भी उन लोगों के द्वारा यह मुख्य भाषा और उसकी संबंधित विभिन्न बोलियों को बोलने की बात देखने में नहीं आती है, अर्थात यह कि कोई अपनी या किसी और की बोली जाने वाली “अन्य-भाषा” को किसी और मुख्य भाषा की ‘बोली’ या क्षेत्रीय भाषा बताए। उन्हें तो अपने द्वारा बोली जाने वाली भाषा का ही नाम, अर्थ, व्याकरण, आदि पता नहीं होता है, तो किसी दूसरे की भाषा या बोली के लिए क्या कहेंगे? अन्य-भाषाओं से संबंधित वचन का यह प्रमुख गुण, आज “अन्य-भाषाएं” बोलने के नामे पर मुँह से निरर्थक ध्वनियाँ निकालने वालों में बिलकुल दिखाई नहीं देता है, तो फिर वे कैसे अपने इस व्यवहार को “वचन के अनुसार” सही और जायज़ कह सकते हैं?

2. पद 6, 8 और 11 में लिखा है कि वहाँ एकत्रित सुनने वाले सभी यह पहचान रहे थे कि वे लोग उनकी भाषा या बोली में कुछ कह रहे हैं। यदि बोलने वाले पृथ्वी के बाहर की भाषाएं बोल रहे होते, तो फिर ये पृथ्वी के विभिन्न भौगोलिक क्षेत्रों से एकत्रित हुए यहूदी मनुष्य यह कैसे कहने पाते कि उन्हें अपनी ही भाषा सुनाई दे रही है; क्योंकि उनकी अपनी भाषा का अभिप्राय तो उनके पृथ्वी के भौगोलिक क्षेत्र की भाषा या बोली से होता? आज जो “अन्य-भाषाएं” बोलने का दावा करते हैं, न तो उन्हें खुद ही और न ही उन्हें सुनने वालों को यह पता होता है कि उन्होंने क्या कहा है! जबकि प्रेरितों 2:4-11 में, और अन्य स्थानों पर भी, वचन में सदा ही यह स्पष्ट किया गया है कि सुनने वाले समझ रहे थे कि क्या कहा जा रहा है।

3. विभिन्न देशों से आए वे यहूदी न केवल अपनी भाषा और बोली पहचान रहे थे, वरन उन्हें यह भी समझ आ रहा था कि क्या कहा जा रहा है - “परमेश्वर के बड़े-बड़े कामों की चर्चा” की जा रही है; अर्थात परमेश्वर के आराधना की जा रही है, उससे प्रार्थना नहीं की जा रही है। ध्यान कीजिए, वचन में न यहाँ पर, और न किसी अन्य स्थान पर अन्य-भाषा को प्रार्थना के लिए उपयोग किया गया दिखाया गया है। गलत शिक्षा वाले ये लोग अन्य-भाषाओं को “प्रार्थना करने की भाषा” कहकर लोगों को भरमाते हैं, जबकि वचन में ऐसा कहीं नहीं लिखा है। अपनी बात के समर्थन में वे लोग रोमियों 8:26-27 “इसी रीति से आत्मा भी हमारी दुर्बलता में सहायता करता है, क्योंकि हम नहीं जानते, कि प्रार्थना किस रीति से करना चाहिए; परन्तु आत्मा आप ही ऐसी आहें भर भरकर जो बयान से बाहर है, हमारे लिये बिनती करता है। और मनों का जांचने वाला जानता है, कि आत्मा की मनसा क्या है क्योंकि वह पवित्र लोगों के लिये परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार बिनती करता है” का दुरुपयोग, उसमें अपने ही शब्द और तात्पर्य डालने के द्वारा करते हैं।

रोमियों के इन पदों में साफ लिखा है कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा हमारी दुर्बलताओं की स्थिति में, जब हम नहीं जानते कि ऐसे में क्या प्रार्थना की जाए, तब स्वयं आहें भरकर हमारे लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार विनती करता है। यहाँ यह कहीं नहीं लिखा या अर्थ दिया गया है कि पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासियों से अन्य-भाषा बोलने के द्वारा प्रार्थना करवाता है। आहें भरना, और वह भी किसी मनुष्य के द्वारा नहीं, वरन पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा, अन्य भाषा बोलना नहीं है। इन पदों में “हम नहीं जानते” मसीही विश्वासी की दुर्बलता की उस स्थिति के लिए आया है जिस में मसीही विश्वासी अपनी परिस्थिति से इतना अभिभूत या प्रभावित है कि उसे समझ ही नहीं आ रहा है कि वह क्या प्रार्थना करे; तब पवित्र आत्मा स्वयं उसके लिए प्रार्थना करके उसकी सहायता करता है। न तो रोमियों के ये पद मनुष्यों द्वारा अन्य-भाषाएं बोलने से संबंधित हैं, और न ही ये पद अन्य-भाषा बोलने को प्रार्थना की भाषा बताना जायज़ ठहराते हैं; वरन ये पद तो किसी बहुत ही अभिभूत कर देने वाली स्थिति में पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता से संबंधित हैं न कि किसे के द्वारा सामान्य प्रार्थनाएँ करने की स्थिति से। इन पदों की इस प्रकार व्याख्या सर्वथा गलत है, वचन के साथ खिलवाड़ और वचन का जान-बूझ कर किया गया दुरुपयोग है। सामान्य समझ की बात है, जब हम परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करते हैं तो हमें पता होता है कि हम क्या और क्यूँ कह रहे हैं, परमेश्वर से क्या माँग रहे हैं। इन गलत शिक्षाओं वालों को तो स्वयं ही पता नहीं होता है कि उन्होंने कहा क्या है, तो फिर वे क्या प्रार्थना करते हैं, या क्या आराधना करते हैं, किसे पता है?

आज “अन्य-भाषा” को पृथ्वी के बाहर की भाषा बताने वाले लोगों द्वारा मुँह से निकाली जाने वाली विचित्र आवाजों पर ऊपर कही गई तीनों में से एक भी बात लागू नहीं होती है। अर्थात, जब प्रेरितों 2:4-11 को उसके संदर्भ और शब्दों के अर्थ तथा अभिप्रायों के साथ देखा और अध्ययन किया जाए, तो इन गलत शिक्षाएं फैलाने वालों की बातों का झूठ तुरंत ही सामने आ जाता है। अगले लेख में हम अन्य-भाषाएं बोलने से संबंधित एक और बहुत फैलाई जाने वाली किन्तु बिलकुल गलत शिक्षा, कि अन्य-भाषा बोलना ही पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने का प्रमाण है, के बारे में वचन से देखेंगे।

English Translation

Understanding ‘Tongues’ - ?Super-Natural Languages

In the preceding articles we had first seen the various false teachings spread about the Lord Jesus, and had then started to look into the false teachings about the Holy Spirit. We have seen that the Holy Spirit is given to every truly Born-Again Christian Believer at the moment of his being saved; God the Holy Spirit comes to reside in him forever in all His fullness, and never leaves him. We have also seen that the Word of God is very clear that being “filled with the Holy Spirit” and “baptism with the Holy Spirit” are not “second experiences” or something extra, but just the same as the Holy Spirit coming to reside in the Believer on being saved; and Biblically there is nothing like the very emphatically preached and taught “Baptism of the Holy Spirit.” This too is a false teaching that has no basis or affirmation from the Word of God. Today we will consider the facts and truth regarding another related wrong teaching, again insisted upon and very emphatically taught by these preachers and teachers of false doctrines - the “speaking in tongues” and the claims of these preachers that these are super-natural languages, from the Word of God.

To understand and learn about “tongues” we will have to look into the meanings of the words used in the original Greek language and translated as “tongues”, and also analyze the passage of the first occurrence of this phenomenon amongst the disciples of the Lord Jesus, given in Acts 2:4-11, in its context. In this passage, Acts 2:4-11, in the original Greek language, two different words, “glossa” and “dialektos” have been used. The word glossa literally means the tongue - the organ in the mouth, or something of a similar shape, e.g., the “tongues” of fire that came to rest upon the disciples in Acts 1:3; it is also used to denote the sounds that come out of the mouth. The word “dialektos” means a “dialect”, i.e., a local variation of the mainly spoken language of a region; as the geographical location changes, often there is also a corresponding change in the dialect, though the main language remains the same. In the passage we are considering, Acts 2:4-11, the word “glossa” has been used in verses 4 and 11; and the word “dialektos” has been used in verses 6 and 8.

In the literal sense, since the word “glossa” can mean the sounds coming from the mouth, the preachers and teachers of the false doctrines and wrong teachings, using this sense of “glossa”, say that even the meaningless, unknown sounds coming from the mouth are a “language”. But when this is seen in context of the other verses, it becomes clear that the word “glossa” has actually been used for only the known and recognized languages of the earth; not for any supposedly super-natural language, or any sound that may come from the mouth.

It is written in verse 4 that all the people who had gathered in that place, on being filled with the Holy Spirit, they all started to speak in “other tongues [glossa] as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

In verses 5-8 it is written that at the time of the celebration of the feast of Pentecost, Jews from various places of the earth had gathered in Jerusalem, and they have been called “devout Jews.” In verses 6 and 8 the word used in the original Greek language is “dialektos”, which has been translated as “language” in English. If we replace the word “language” with the word “dialektos” or “dialect”, then their sense in the original language becomes clear and these verses can be better understood. Now it becomes apparent that those devout Jews on hearing the disciples speaking in “tongues”, on hearing the disciples speak in the “dialects” of their native places, were amazed and said, “how is it that these Galileans are now speaking in our “dialects” instead of their own Galilean language?”

In verses 9-10, it is written that people from 15 different geographical areas had congregated in Jerusalem, when this incidence happened. And all these people, who were in thousands (3000 was the count of just those who were saved and baptized), heard the disciples speak in their own “glossa” or “dialektos”, and understood what they were speaking.

In verse 11 again the word “glossa” has been used; the Holy Spirit has made it even more clear here that it was the earthly languages that were being spoken, and not any supposedly super-natural languages. The Holy Spirit has had written three proofs for this:

1. As we have seen in verses 6 and 8 above, not only did the disciples speak the main languages, but also the “dialects” related to those main languages also. In contrast, today, amongst those speaking in “super-natural languages” we never hear of which are the main languages, and which, if any, is the “dialects” of those main languages. Regarding the many individually different sounds they make in the name of speaking in “super-natural languages”, no one ever says which is the main language and which is a dialect of that main language; for that matter no one even understands what the other one is saying. Even those who are speaking do not know the name, meaning, grammar etc. of the “language” they are speaking in; so how will they know about anyone else’s? This important proof of main languages and their dialects being simultaneously present and spoken, from the Word of God is never seen amongst those claiming to speak in “super-natural” languages, so how can they justify their odd behavior as being consistent with God’s Word, as they claim it to be?

2. It is written in verse 6, 8, and 11 that the people present and listening to the disciples, were all recognizing and understanding what is being said. If the disciples had been speaking in “super-natural” languages, then how could the Jewish people gathered from different geographical areas claim to hear it in their own native language; because they were saying this in context of their own regional language. Today, those who claim to speak in “tongues”, neither they themselves, nor those hearing them know or understand what they have said! But in Acts 2:4-11 and at other places also it has been clearly written that those listening could understand and know what was being spoken.

3. The Jews that had come from the various places on earth, not only recognized their own languages and dialects, but also understood what is being said - “the wonderful works of God”; in other words, God was being worshiped, He was not being prayed to. Take note, neither here, nor anywhere else has “tongues” been shown as a “prayer language” in the Bible. But these preachers and teachers of false things deceive and mislead people by calling it a “prayer language”. In support of their argument, they show, misinterpret and misuse Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God”, by bringing in their own words and meanings into theses verses.

It is quite clearly written in these verses from Romans that it is the Holy Spirit that makes intercession for us according to our needs, in situations when we are weak and do not know what to pray for. It is neither written here, nor implied that the Holy Spirit makes a Believer speak in “tongues” to pray to God. To ‘groan’, and that too by the Holy Spirit, is not the same as the person speaking in “tongues.” In these verses the phrase “we do not know what we should pray for as we ought” has come for the Christian Believer, who is in so overwhelmed, so caught up in some difficult situation that he is unable to understand what to pray for; in such situations the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes and prays for him. So, not only are these verses not talking about speaking in “tongues” as a “prayer language”, but they are about some extreme, overwhelming circumstances; and not the regular prayer a Believer has to do. To interpret these verses in the manner they are used by them is wrong, is deliberately fooling around with God’s Word and misusing it. It is a common understanding that when we pray to God, we know what we are praying about, what we are asking and saying to God. These preachers and teachers of wrong doctrines and false teachings themselves do not know what they have said and why; then how can they actually and effectively pray or worship or converse with God?

None of the above-mentioned three things can be seen in the strange noises which these people utter in the name of speaking in “tongues”, in a supposedly “super-natural” language, today. In other words, when Acts 2:4-11 is seen in its context and along with the meanings of the words used in the original language, then the false teachings and preaching of these people immediately become apparent. In the next article we will look at another very commonly spread but absolutely wrong teaching, that speaking in “tongues” is the proof of having received the Holy Spirit, from the Word of God.
