यीशु के 12 से 30 साल तक के जीवन के विषय में क्या बाईबल शान्त है?

    परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में हमारे लिए परमेश्वर, उसके राज्य, उसके साथ हमारे संबंध, उसके कार्य, गुण, कार्यविधि, नियम, आज्ञाओं इत्यादि के विषय बहुत कुछ दिया गया है, किन्तु परमेश्वर और उसके बारे में सब कुछ नहीं दिया गया है; क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में हमारे लिए वही सब लिखवाया है जो वह चाहता है कि हम जानें और मानें और जिससे हम उसकी निकटता में आएँ, उद्धार पाएँ और उसके परिवार का भाग बन जाएँ।

    यद्यपि बाइबल में प्रभु यीशु के लड़कपन, 12 वर्ष से लेकर उनके सेवकाई आरंभ करने,30 वर्ष की आयु तक का विवरण नहीं दिया गया है, किन्तु बाइबल इसके विषय में बिलकुल शान्त भी नहीं है। यह परमेश्वर और प्रभु यीशु के विरोधियों द्वारा फैलाया गया भ्रम है कि बाइबल उनके 12 से 30 वर्ष की आयु के बारे में कुछ नहीं बताती है; और अपने द्वारा फैलाए गए इस भ्रम के आधार पर वे यह एक और झूठ फैलाते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु भारत आए थे यहाँ से सीख कर वापस इस्राएल आए और उन शिक्षाओं के अनुसार प्रचार किया। सच तो यह है कि बाइबल स्पष्ट बताती है कि प्रभु यीशु वहीं इस्राएल में अपने परिवार के साथ ही रहे थे। इस संदर्भ में बाइबल में, सुसमाचारों में, दिए गए कुछ पदों को देखिए:

•  मत्ती 13:54 “और अपने देश में आकर उन की सभा में उन्हें ऐसा उपदेश देने लगा; कि वे चकित हो कर कहने लगे; कि इस को यह ज्ञान और सामर्थ के काम कहां से मिले?”
• मरकुस 6:2-3 “सब्त के दिन वह आराधनालय में उपदेश करने लगा; और बहुत लोग सुनकर चकित हुए और कहने लगे, इस को ये बातें कहां से आ गईं? और यह कौन सा ज्ञान है जो उसको दिया गया है? और कैसे सामर्थ के काम इसके हाथों से प्रगट होते हैं? क्या यह वही बढ़ई नहीं, जो मरियम का पुत्र, और याकूब और योसेस और यहूदा और शमौन का भाई है? और क्या उस की बहिनें यहां हमारे बीच में नहीं रहतीं? इसलिये उन्होंने उसके विषय में ठोकर खाई।”
• लूका 2:39-40 “और जब वे प्रभु की व्यवस्था के अनुसार सब कुछ निपटा चुके तो गलील में अपने नगर नासरत को फिर चले गए। और बालक बढ़ता, और बलवन्‍त होता, और बुद्धि से परिपूर्ण होता गया; और परमेश्वर का अनुग्रह उस पर था।”
• लूका 2:51-52 “तब वह उन के साथ गया, और नासरत में आया, और उन के वश में रहा; और उस की माता ने ये सब बातें अपने मन में रखीं। और यीशु बुद्धि और डील-डौल में और परमेश्वर और मनुष्यों के अनुग्रह में बढ़ता गया।”
• लूका 4:16 “और वह नासरत में आया; जहां पाला पोसा गया था; और अपनी रीति के अनुसार सब्त के दिन आराधनालय में जा कर पढ़ने के लिये खड़ा हुआ।
• यूहन्ना 7:15 “तब यहूदियों ने अचम्भा कर के कहा, कि इसे बिन पढ़े विद्या कैसे आ गई?”

    ध्यान कीजिए, मत्ती, मरकुस और यूहन्ना के हवाले यह स्पष्ट दिखा रहे हैं कि प्रभु यीशु की शिक्षाओं को सुनकर सब को अचम्भा होता था कि उन्होंने ‘बिना पढ़े’ वह सब कैसे जान लिया जो वे प्रचार करते थे। अर्थात, वे लोग जानते थे कि प्रभु यीशु कभी कहीं शिक्षा पाने नहीं गए थे, उन्हीं के मध्य रहे थे, परन्तु फिर भी इतना कुछ सीख गए थे, अद्भुत प्रचार कर सकते थे। यदि प्रभु यीशु कहीं गए होते, तो लोग फिर यह कहते कि “उन्होंने समझ लिया कि वह यह सब उस परदेश से सीख कर आया था जहाँ वह गया हुआ था” – किन्तु किसी ने भी कभी भी ऐसा कुछ नहीं कहा। दूसरी बात, प्रभु यीशु ने जो भी प्रचार किया वह परमेश्वर के वचन के उस भाग, जिसे हम आज बाइबल के पुराने नियम के नाम से जानते है, से था। यदि प्रभु कहीं बाहर से कुछ सीखकर आए होते तो पुराने नियम से नहीं सिखाते वरन उस “ज्ञान” के अनुसार सिखाते जिसे वे सीख कर आए थे – किन्तु ऐसा कदापि नहीं था। उनकी सारी शिक्षाएँ परमेश्वर के वचन के पुराने नियम पर आधारित थीं।

    लूका के हवालों पर ध्यान कीजिए – ये तीनों हवाले स्पष्ट दिखाते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु की परवरिश वहीं इस्राएल में, गलील के नासरत में, जो उनका निवास-स्थान था, हुई थी।

    इसलिए चाहे बाइबल में उनकी 12 से 30 वर्ष की आयु के बारे में कोई विस्वितृत वरण नहीं है, किन्तु इतना अवश्य प्रगट है कि प्रभु वहीं इस्राएल के नासरत में अपने परिवार के साथ ही रहे थे और लोगों ने उन्हें बड़े होते हुए देखा और जाना था।

Is the Bible silent about Jesus’ life between 12 to 30 years of age?

    Very many things have been given to us in God’s Word the Bible about God, His kingdom, our relationship with Him, His works, attributes, Laws, Commandments etc. but not everything about God has been given in the Bible. God in His Word has got written that which He wants us to know and follow so that we can draw near to Him, be saved, and become members of His family.

    Although the Bible does not give us any details about Lord Jesus since the time He was a boy of 12 to the time when He started His ministry at the age of 30, but the Bible is not entirely silent about this time period either. This is a misinformation spread by those who oppose God and the Lord Jesus that the Bible is silent about the Lord’s life between 12 and 30 years of age; and based upon this misinformation they spread another falsehood that the Lord Jesus between this time period had gone to India, learnt spiritual things here and then returned to Israel to preach them. The fact is that the Bible very clearly states that the Lord Jesus has always lived with His family in Israel. In this context, take a look at some verses from the Gospel accounts from the Bible:

• Matthew 13:54 “And when He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?”
• Mark 6:2-3 “And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him.”
• Luke 2:39-40 “So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.”
• Luke 2:51-52 “Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”
• Luke 4:16 “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.”
• John 7:15 “And the Jews marveled, saying, "How does this Man know letters, having never studied?"”

    Take note that the references from Matthew, Mark, and John clearly show that everybody was amazed at the Lord’s teachings, as to how did He learn all that He preached ‘having never studied’. In other words, the people knew that the Lord Jesus had never gone anywhere to learn, He had remained amongst them, yet He had learnt such wonderful things, and preached so amazingly and magnificently. Had the Lord gone anywhere, then it would have been written about Him that the “people realized or understood that He had learnt it all in the foreign place He had gone to” – but nobody ever said this about Him. Secondly, all that the Lord Jesus preached was based upon and quoted the part of the Bible we now know as the Old Testament. Had the Lord learnt something anywhere else then He would not have taught from the Old Testament but would have then taught according to the ‘knowledge’ He had acquired from outside – but it was never so. All His teachings were based on the Old Testament part of God’s Word.

    Take note of the references from Luke – these three references very clearly show that the Lord Jesus’s upbringing was in Nazareth of Galilee, the place where He resided with His family.

    So although the Bible may not provide any details about the life of Lord Jesus between 12 and 30 years of age, but it does inform us that He was always there in Nazareth, in Israel during that time period and the people had seen Him live and grow up in that region.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

किसी आयु में बड़े या वृद्ध व्यक्ति के पैरों को झुक कर हाथ लगाना उसे आदर प्रदान करने का सूचक माना जाता है। कभी-कभी किसी आदरणीय या महान समझे जाने वाले पुरुष के सम्मुख झुकना, उसकी वंदना करने के समान या उसे आराध्य समझने के समान भी माना जा सकता है। झुक कर पैरों को हाथ लगाने में ये दोनों ही अभिप्राय भी सम्मिलित हो सकते हैं। यह करने के द्वारा हाथ लगाने वाला, जिसके पैरों को हाथ लगाया जा रहा है, उसे यह जताता है कि मैं आपकी आयु और आपके अनुभव, आपके दर्जे/स्तर, आपके गुणों, आदि का आदर करता हूँ; आपके सामने मैं आपके पैरों की धूल के समान हूँ, और मुझे आपके आशीर्वाद की आवश्यकता है।

किन्तु वास्तविकता यही है कि हर वह मनुष्य जिसके पाँव छुए जाते हैं वास्तव में सच्चा, खरा, आदर्श, अनुसरण करने योग्य, और बहुधा किसी आदर के योग्य भी नहीं होता है। सामान्यतः, पैरों को छूना उस व्यक्ति के गुणों के लिए नहीं, एक प्रथा निभाने के लिए लिए किया जाता है; और यदि न किया जाए तो जिसे इसकी आशा होती है वह बुरा भी मान जाता है, क्रोधित भी हो जाता है। बहुत बार जो दूसरे के पैर छू रहा होता है, वह मन ही मन उसे उसके चरित्र, व्यवहार, दुष्कर्मों आदि किसी बात के लिए भला-बुरा भी कह रहा होता है। सामान्यतः लोग पैरों को छूने की बजाए, लोग थोड़ा सा झुककर और पैरों की तरफ थोड़ा सा हाथ बढ़ाकर, अपनी ओर से इसे औपचारिकता के रूप में पूरा कर लेते हैं; उनके मन में उस व्यक्ति के प्रति सच्चा आदर नहीं होता है, वे बस प्रथा निभाने भर के लिए इसका संकेत भर कर देते हैं। अर्थात, वर्तमान समाज और व्यवहार में पैर छूना शायद ही कभी वास्तव में आदर देने और उचित कारण से होता है; अधिकांशतः तो यह बिना किसी वास्तविक या उपयुक्त एवं उचित भावना के, मात्र एक औपचारिकता अथवा प्रथा के निर्वाह के लिए किया जाता है।

यह प्रथा मसीही विश्वासियों में नहीं देखी जाती है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर के वचन – बाइबल में किसी भी मनुष्य को वन्दना अथवा आराध्य समझना या मानना वर्जित है, और बाइबल के स्पष्ट उदाहरण हैं कि सृजे हुओं ने अन्य सृजे हुओं से वंदना या आराधना के भाव में नमन को अस्वीकार किया, ऐसा करने के लिए मना किया (प्रेरितों 10:25-26; 14:14-15; प्रकाशितवाक्य 19:10; 22:8-9)। पैर छूने की यह अपेक्षा उनमें ही देखी जाती है जो मसीही विश्वासी नहीं हैं।

Is it appropriate for a Christian Believer touch the feet of elders?

Stooping or bowing to touch the feet of an elder is considered an act of giving honor to the elder. To bow before a person considered honorable, can also be considered as venerating him or considering him worthy of veneration. Generally speaking, in bowing to touch the feet of a person, both of these are implied. By doing so the person touching the feet, is conveying to the person whose feet are being touched, that I respect and honor your age, experience, status, qualities and attributes etc. and consider myself as the dust of your feet, and I need your blessings.

But the reality is that every person, whose feet are touched, is not actually true, honest, ideal, worthy of emulation, and often is not worthy of any honor. Usually, touching of feet is done not for any person's qualities, but to fulfill a tradition; and if it is not done then the one expecting this feels offended, and may even react angrily. Many times, the person who is touching another's feet, in his heart he is cursing the person whose feet he is touching for that person's character, behavior, bad things done by him, etc. Very commonly, people instead of actually touching the feet, often just bend a bit and slightly reach out towards the other person's feet, and thus fulfill the formality from their end; they have no true honor or respect for the other person, they do this merely to fulfill a tradition. In other words, in the present society and behavior, touching of feet is very rarely to give honor or for any other genuine reason; most often this is done without any appropriate or worthy feeling or really meaning it, rather it is usually done to either fulfill a formality or a tradition. 

This practice is not seen amongst Christian Believers since the Word of God – the Bible forbids any man from being considered as venerable, and there are clear examples in the Bible where created beings have refused to accept veneration from other created beings, (Acts 10:25-26; 14:14-15; Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9). Usually this expectation of touching of feet is seen in those who are not Christian Believers.

A Christian Believer, by repenting of his sins and having received the forgiveness of sins on the basis of the accomplished work on the Cross of Calvary by the Lord Jesus, and having submitted his life to the Lord, is by the grace of God a child of God (John 1:12-13), his body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who resides in him (1 Corinthians 6:19), he is being built up into a dwelling place for God along with other Christian Believers (Ephesians 2:21-22), he is being changed into the likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18), and as a member of His Worldwide Church is a Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27), is a joint heir with Christ Jesus (Romans 8:16-17), and is a light to the world on behalf of the Lord Jesus (Matthew 5:14).

In contrast to this, man is born with sin nature (Psalms 51:5) and continues to sin (1 John 1:8, 10), before God his wisdom is foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:25-27), nothing good resides in him (Jeremiah 17:9; Mark 7:20-23), all his imaginations are evil (Ecclesiastes 9:3, Job 15:14-16), and nothing good can come out of him (Job 14:4), and by his very nature is contrary to God (Romans 8:7); man is temporal (James 4:14), and cannot inherit eternity in his state of flesh (1 Corinthians 15:50).

Keeping in mind the various characteristics of man, now, in this sentence, " There is nothing wrong or improper in a Christian Believer bowing to touch the feet of someone, doing this is only a sign of giving honor or respect, nothing more" make some substitutions to see how after the paraphrasing it actually comes out to be. In place of ‘Christian Believer’ put in the afore mentioned attributes of a Christian Believer – "child of God, temple of the Holy Spirit...", in place of “someone” put in the state and attributes of a carnal man – "sinner, full of evil, mortal...", and in place of “touch the feet” put in its implications, "I respect and honor your age, experience, status, qualities and attributes etc. and consider myself as the dust of your feet, and I need your blessings" and thus reconstruct the sentence.

On doing so the form of this sentence will be something like this : "For a [Christian Believer] ‘child of God, temple of the Holy Spirit, dwelling place of God, likeness of the Lord Jesus, Bride of Christ, joint-heir with Christ, light of the Lord for the guidance of the world’ to bow down to a [person] ‘sinner, a fool before God, devoid of anything good within, all of whose imaginations are evil, who cannot bring forth anything good, a mortal man, who by his very nature stays contrary to God’ and to imply [touch his feet] that ‘I respect and honor your age, experience, status, qualities and attributes etc. and consider myself as the dust of your feet, and I need your blessings’ there is nothing wrong or improper, it is only a sign of respect, ।nothing more." On the basis of constructing the sentence in this manner now decide, does it still sound proper and appropriate as before?

Now think it over whether for a person who is, a child of God, a temple of the Holy Spirit, is being conformed to the likeness of Lord Jesus Christ, and has been placed before the world as to reveal the light of the Lord Jesus, would it be appropriate for him to imply to a person having a sin nature, is mortal, is devoid of God’s wisdom, and by nature is contrary to God, that I need your blessings because I am like the dust of your feet!

The answer is self-evident, that for a Christian Believer, by virtue of the reality of his spiritual state and the status and position bestowed upon him by God, it is inappropriate for him to bow before a person and touch his feet, for what this act implies.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

English Translation

Partaking Foods Offered to Idols and Other Deities

If foods are grown, harvested, stored, and sold after invoking non-Christian deities and religious practices upon them, can a Christian then partake of them?

Even if people do not know or follow the true and living Lord our God, and do not acknowledge Him and His work in their lives, He still continues to love and provide for them (Psalm 145:9; Matthew 5:45). The Psalmist says that it is the Lord God that causes the earth to produce vegetation for food for man and animals (Psalms 104:14). Along the same lines, Paul using the analogy of sowing and growth, states that no matter who does the sowing, it is God who gives the germination, growth, and fruitfulness to whatever is sown (1 Corinthians 3:6-8). So even if the farmer does some supposedly religious ceremony or idol worship, the fields will only produce, both quantitatively and qualitatively what God makes them to produce, and therefore we can rest assured that our food item has God's hand and blessings in it, no matter who has cultivated it and how.

Regarding forbidding eating things offered to idols, read 1 Corinthians 8 and 10, where Paul discusses this issue under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Although an idol is nothing (1 Corinthians 8:4), and therefore from that point of view eating or not eating something offered to an idol is inconsequential (1 Corinthians 8:8); but basically, in forbidding eating things offered to idols, the intention is to avoid sending out any impression of veneration or acknowledgment of pagan deities(1 Corinthians 8:7), since partaking of things offered on the altar, makes one a partaker of the altar as well (1 Corinthians 10:18). The more mature Christian Believers should make sure that the weaker in faith brethren in Christ are not misled on this count (1 Corinthians 8:7, 10-13); and, it also should be clear to the un-Believers that the Believers in Christ cannot partake in the Lord’s Table as well as their table – the table of demons (1 Corinthians 10:20-21). Paul also states that if someone offers something offered to idols as a food item, and makes it known, then a Christian Believer should refuse it for the sake of that person's conscience (1 Corinthians 10:25-30); in other words, although eating of that food item would not be any different from eating of any other food item, yet in view of the special place and connotations that “offered-to-an-idol” food item has in the beliefs and conscience of the person serving it; and also to show that a Believer is separated from such things, a Christian Believer is not to partake of that food item.

So, while it is absolutely Biblical and desirable to not accept and eat things offered to idols, and this principal should always be adhered to; yet, in context of special situations like our title question, it should not be made something dogmatic for being righteous and acceptable to God – because that is only possible by the grace of God through Christ’s work on the Cross of Calvary, and not by any of our deeds, and God well knows the state of our hearts (1 Corinthians 8:3).

क्या 2 राजा 5:18-19 से नामान के उदाहरण के आधार पर मसीही विश्वासियों का गैर-मसीही उपासना तथा धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों में भाग लेना उचित माना जा सकता है?

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के गलत अर्थ निकालने, गलत व्याख्या करने और उसकी गलत समझ रखने का प्रमुख और आम तौर से देखा जाने वाला कारण है बाइबल के अंशों को उनके संदर्भ से बाहर लेना, उन्हें छोटे भागों में विभाजित करके केवल उस विभाजित भाग मात्र को ही अपनी व्याख्या का आधार बनाना, और अपनी बात को मनवाने के लिए वचन को तोड़-मरोड़ कर प्रस्तुत करना। परमेश्वर के वचन के किसी भी भाग की शिक्षाओं को सही समझने और जानने के लिए उन्हें सदैव ही उनके संदर्भ में देखना और समझना चाहिए, न कि संदर्भ के बाहर।

यहाँ नामान के उपरोक्त कथन के अर्थ और उपयोगिता को समझने के लिए, उसे पद 17, “तब नामान ने कहा, अच्छा, तो तेरे दास को दो खच्चर मिट्टी मिले, क्योंकि आगे को तेरा दास यहोवा को छोड़ और किसी ईश्वर को होमबलि वा मेलबलि न चढ़ाएगा” के संदर्भ में देखा जाना चाहिए, जिसमें इसे समझने की कुंजी है।

·         नामान प्रभु परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने विश्वास और समर्पण में अति-दृढ़ था। बिलकुल खुले रूप में, उसे अपने इस नए विश्वास का सबके सामने अंगीकार करने में न तो कोई संकोच था और न ही उसे अपने इस निर्णय के प्रति कोई संशय था कि अब से वह केवल इस्राएल के परमेश्वर ही की सेवा करेगा, किसी अन्य देवी-देवता की नहीं।

·         नामान, रिम्मोन के भवन में, स्वेच्छा से नहीं वरन केवल राजा के प्रति उसके कार्य के निर्वाह की बाध्यता के अन्तर्गत ही जाता।

·         रिम्मोन के सामने दण्डवत नामान को नहीं करना था वरन राजा को करना था; नामान उस दण्डवत की मुद्रा में तभी आता जब राजा को उसके हाथ के सहारे की आवश्यकता होती, अन्यथा नहीं।

·         रिम्मोन के भवन में नामान की उपस्थिति न ही राजा को प्रसन्न करने के उद्देश्य से होनी थी और न ही उपासना के लिए, परन्तु केवल राजा को सहारा देने वाले व्यक्ति के रूप में।

·         इस ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह के प्रति भी नामान न तो सहमत था, और न ही इसे लेकर शान्ति से था, वरन अब उसके लिए यह एक मजबूरी थी, कोई स्वेच्छा से किया गया कार्य नहीं।

·         ऐसा करने के प्रति वह अपने संकोच और अनमने होने को सबके सामने खुले रूप से कहता है, यह जानते हुए कि जब वह इस विषय में एलीशा से बात कर रहा था तब उसके देश के अन्य लोग भी वहाँ उपस्थित थे, और वह उन संभावित परिणामों से भी भली-भांति अवगत था जो इन बातों का उसके राजा के कानों तक पहुँचने से हो सकते थे। परन्तु फिर भी उन लोगों की उपस्थिति में वह ऐसा करने के प्रति अपने संकोच को व्यक्त करने, या अपने विश्वास के बारे में बात करने में निर्भय तथा निःसंकोच था।

उसके इस विश्वास और समर्पण के विषय एलीशा उसे प्रत्युत्तर देता है “कुशल से विदा हो”; दूसरे शब्दों में, एलीशा ने उसे आश्वस्त किया कि “चिन्ता मत कर, परमेश्वर तेरे विश्वास और समर्पण के बारे में, तथा इसके बारे में तेरे मन की भावनाओं के बारे में भली-भांति जानता है, और वह तेरे हृदय की दशा का अनुसार तेरा मूल्याँकन करेगा (इसे 1 शमूएल 16:7; 1 इतिहास 28:9; 2 इतिहास 16:9; नीतिवचन 16:2; यिर्मयाह 17:10; Jeremiah 20:12; लूका 16:15 के संदर्भ में देखें), इसलिए अपनी परिस्थितियों और मजबूरियों को लेकर परेशान न हो, केवल वह कर जो तेरे लिए सही है।”

इसलिए हम कह सकते हैं कि यहाँ पर एलीशा नामान को परमेश्वर के द्वारा अपने लोगों से बारंबार तथा बलपूर्वक कही गई बात – मूर्तियों और मूर्तिपूजा से बिलकुल परे और दूर रहो, के विरुद्ध जाने की अनुमति नहीं दे रहा था, और न ही बात को यूँ ही बिना गंभीरता से लिए कुछ कह रहा था। पुराने नियम में बहुधा दोहराए गए मूर्तिपूजा के विरुद्ध के इस सत्य के नए नियम के समानान्तर के लिए 2 कुरिन्थियों 6:14-18 देखें। परमेश्वर अपने वचन के विरुद्ध कभी नहीं जाएगा, और न ही किसी के भी लिए उसे किसी रीति से काटेगा या बदलेगा। स्मरण रखिए कि वचन स्वयँ देहधारी प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही है (यूहन्ना 1:1-4, 14) – स्वयँ परमेश्वर, मानव देह में, और बाइबल की बातों में कोई भी परस्पर विरोध, परमेश्वर द्वारा अपना ही प्रतिवाद करने के तुल्य है – जो कि बिलकुल असंभव बात है!

इसलिए यह स्पष्ट होना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर ने मसीही विश्वासियों को कदापि यह अनुमति नहीं दी है कि वे अविश्वासियों की उपासना के रीति रिवाजों एवँ अनुष्ठानों का भाग हों; और नामान का उदाहरण, केवल उन अविश्वासियों को प्रसन्न रखने के लिए जिनके साथ या जिनके आधीन कोई विश्वासी काम कर रहा है, परमेश्वर के इस निर्देश से बचकर निकलने का मार्ग प्रदान नहीं करता है।

मैं इस बात को अपने जीवन के अनुभव से जानता हूँ। मैं भी गैर-मसीही और मूर्तिपूजक लोगों के साथ तथा उनके आधीन काफी समय से विभिन्न समय और स्थानों पर कार्य करता रहा हूँ। नौकरी के लिए प्रत्येक साक्षात्कार के समय मैं सदा ही साक्षात्कार लेने और मुझे नौकरी पर रखने वाले अधिकारियों से यह स्पष्ट कहा है कि मैं उनके यहाँ नौकरी करते समय कभी भी, किसी भी परिस्थिति में, किसी उपासना, भेंट, बलिदान या अन्य किसी भी धार्मिक गतिविधि अथवा अनुष्ठान में कोई भाग नहीं लूँगा; और परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह तथा सहायता से मैं आज तक अपनी इस बात पर कायम रहा हूँ; और इसके कारण न तो मेरे नौकरी पर रखे जाने और न ही बढ़ोतरी दिए जाने, या महत्वपूर्ण ज़िम्मेदारियों को मुझे सौंपें जाने में कभी कोई बाधा आई है। मैं आज तक निःसंकोच मूर्तियों के आगे अर्पित की गई किसी भी वस्तु को खाने से मना करता आया हूँ – नम्रता के साथ और हाथ जोड़कर अपने विश्वास को व्यक्त करने के द्वारा, बिना किसी को कोई कटु या अपमानजनक व्यवहार दिखाए। और मैंने आज तक उन लोगों के द्वारा आयोजित किसी भी धार्मिक कार्यक्रम या मृतकों के नाम से किए जाने वाले भोज में भाग नहीं लिया है। परमेश्वर सदा मेरे साथ बना रहा है, और मुझे हर उस हानि से बचाता रहा है जिसका भय दिखा कर शैतान लोगों को ऐसे दृढ़ रवैये को अपनाने से रोकने का प्रयास करता रहता है।

English Translation

Naaman's Example in 2 Kings 5:18-19 - can it be used to justify participating in idolatrous gatherings.

    The major and predominant cause of misinterpreting and misunderstanding God’s Word the Bible is taking its portions out of their context, using them in bits and pieces, and extrapolating them to suit one’s fancy. To properly understand and make use of the teachings of any part of God’s Word, it always has to be seen and understood in its context.

    Here, to understand the meaning and application of Naaman’s statement that has been quoted, please also refer to verse 17, which provides the key to the answer: “So Naaman said, "Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the Lord.”

    Naaman, having being miraculously healed of his leprosy, by following Elisha’s instructions – albeit quite reluctantly, to his own surprise gets completely healed, and returns to Elisha absolutely convinced that there is no god other than the God of Israel (vs. 15), and it is that God alone who is worthy of all worship and offering sacrifices to. Naaman is so convinced about and dedicated to the God of Israel, that to offer his sacrifices to Him he does not want to build an altar for his sacrifices to the Lord God from the earth of the pagan land that he resides and works in; he wants to carry “two mule-loads” of earth to his home to be able to build that altar for offering sacrifices (see in context of Exodus 20:23-26). This speaks volumes about the sincerity and depth of his commitment to the Lord God, whom he has come to believe in and accept as the one true God, the only God worthy or worship and sacrificing to.

    Keeping this sincerity and commitment in mind, now let us evaluate 2 Kings 5:18-19. Implied in Naaman’s statement are important truths that need to be taken in consideration while drawing any conclusions from it:

·         Naaman was steadfast in his faith and commitment to the Lord God, openly, not shying away from openly stating his new-found faith and his decision to henceforth serve only the God of Israel, and no other deity.

·         Naaman would not go to the house of Rimmon voluntarily, but under compulsion to his duties to the King.

·         Naaman was not the one bowing to Rimmon, it was the King; Naaman was going to move into that posture of bowing only if the King required his support to do so.

·         Naaman’s presence there in the house of Rimmon was neither for worship nor to appease the King, but only as a “supporting appendage” for the King.

·         Naaman was neither willing, not at peace within himself at all about having to carry out this possibility.

·         He openly expresses his reluctance about it, knowing full well that there were other people from his country present there with him as he was expressing himself about this to Elsiha, and was well aware of the potential consequences if the thing were reported to the King, and yet he was not hesitant to express his reservations about it, or speak about his faith commitment in their presence.

    It is to this faith and commitment that Elisha responds by saying “Go in peace”, in other words – “don’t worry, God knows about your faith, about the state of your commitment to Him, and the feelings in your heart about it, and God evaluates you according to what is in your heart (see in context of 1 Samuel 16:7; 1 Chronicles 28:9; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Proverbs 16:2; Jeremiah 17:10; Jeremiah 20:12; Luke 16:15), so don’t worry about your compulsions and circumstances, and just do what is right for you to do.”

    Hence, Elisha is not giving Naaman a casually expressed immunity from something that goes against what God has repeatedly and forcefully stated to His people – stay absolutely away from idols and idolatry. See 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 for a New Testament version of this often repeated truth of the Old Testament. God will never contradict His Word, for anyone or anything; don’t forget, that the Word incarnate is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself (John 1:1-4, 14) – God Himself in human form, and any contradiction of the anything in the Bible is contradicting God Himself – an absolute impossibility for God to do!

    Moreover, at no place in the Bible, whether in the Old Testament or the New Testament, has this incidence ever been used to provide any justification of any sort for God’s people associating themselves with idols or idolatry in any manner, whereas it could have well been used in this manner, if it were the right conclusion to draw from this incidence.

    Hence it should be quite evident that God does not allow Believers to be a part of worship with the unbelievers, and Naaman’s example is no excuse for seeking a way to bypass God’s instructions, just to appease unbelievers we are working with.

    I know this from my own life and example. I too have been working with and under non-Christian idolaters and unbelievers for a long time, and in different jobs, at different places. At every job interview and selection, I have made it openly clear to the interview board and my employer that I will never participate in any worship, offerings or any religious activity of any sort; and by God’s grace, to date I have stuck to it, and this has never come in the way of either my being selected, or promoted, or considered worthy of greater responsibilities than others. I unhesitatingly do not accept anything offered to idols, politely refusing it, with folded hands, not giving any offense in any manner to the one offering it to me, yet firm in my decision of not accepting things offered to idols, and I never participate in any religious functions or gatherings or occasions organized by them to commemorate their deities or their deceased. God has remained at my side, and kept me safe from any potential harm that Satan tries to frighten people about when they take such resolute steps.

    Therefore take God at His Word (Hebrews 13:5-6) and see for yourself the faithfulness of God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    मसीही विश्वास में कोई जातिवाद अथवा जातिभेद का स्थान अथवा मान्यता नहीं है। पिता परमेश्वर के सामने सभी मसीही विश्वासी एक समान हैं (कुलुसियों 3:11), कोई भी किसी अन्य से बड़ा या छोटा नहीं है। इसलिए अपने आप को किसी अन्य व्यक्ति से नीचा या ऊँचा समझना या बनाना, (अपने आप को किसी सांसारिक उद्धार नहीं पाए हुए व्यक्ति के स्थान पर रखने या समान देखने के द्वारा, और वह भी थोड़ी सी नाश्मान सांसारिक वस्तुओं के लिए, जिनकी प्राप्ति के लिए प्रत्यक्ष या परोक्ष रूप में प्रभु यीशु के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य को सीधे अथवा अप्रत्यक्ष रीति से ईश्वरीय स्तर प्रदान या स्वीकार करना होगा, अपने आप को उस पर विश्वास करने वाले सांसारिक लोगों के समान दिखाने के द्वारा), परमेश्वर के अचूक, अपरिवर्तनीय, सनातन वचन की शिक्षाओं के विरुध्द जाना है; और उसका अपमान करना है – और परमेश्वर ठट्ठों में नहीं उड़ाया जाता है; परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध किए गए ऐसे निन्दनीय, तथा उसका इन्कार करने के तुल्य कुकृत्यों के गंभीर परिणाम होते हैं (गलतियों 6:7-8; यहोशू 23:16)।

    इसलिए अपने मसीही विश्वास को छिपाने के ढोंग के स्थान पर उसे प्रगट करके रखना ही उचित होता है, चाहे उसके परिणाम जो भी हों (मत्ती 10:16-18, 22; 24:9; मरकुस 13:9)। जो लोग मसीही विश्वास में आने के बाद भी जाति के आधार पर, किसी भी प्रकार से, सांसारिक लाभों को लेने का प्रश्न को उठाते हैं, उन्हें भय होता है कि यदि वे अपने मसीही विश्वास को प्रगट करेंगे तो उन्हें "पिछड़ी जाति या वर्ग" का होने के कारण मिलने वाले लाभ फिर नहीं मिलेंगे; और उन लाभों को पाने के लालच में वे अपने मसीही विश्वास को छुपाए रखते हैं। किन्तु ऐसा करने से वे ढोंगी होने तथा परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षाओं के प्रतिकूल होने के दोषी हो जाते हैं, जो कि उनके लिए सांसारिक तथा आत्मिक दोनों ही स्तरों पर गंभीर हानि का कारण हो सकता है। विश्वास रखें कि अपने मसीही विश्वास को प्रगट करने के कारण होने वाली थोड़ी सी सांसारिक बातों की हानि से आप कभी नुकसान में नहीं रहेंगे, क्योंकि उससे कई गुना अधिक भरपाई परमेश्वर कर सकता है और करेगा (मत्ती 19:29; मरकुस 10:30; 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:9)। किन्तु मसीही विश्वास और प्रभु का इस प्रकार इन्कार, तथा उसकी और उसके विश्वासियों की निंदा एवं उपहास का कारण बनने से ऐसे व्यक्ति तथा उसके परिवार जनों की होने वाली दीर्घकालीन हानि की कल्पना और गणना कर पाना असंभव है; इसके दुष्प्रभाव उसकी तीसरी से चौथी पीढ़ी तक जाएंगे (निर्गमन 20:5-7)।

    परमेश्वर की देखभाल और कृपा का आनन्द लेने का एकमात्र तरीका है परमेश्वर पर पूर्णतः विश्वास रखना (इब्रानियों 11:6; यशायाह 40:31), अपने जीवन और कार्यों के द्वारा उसे आदर देना; और2 कुरिन्थियों  6:14-18 के अनुसार अपने आप को सँसार और सांसारिकता से पृथक रखें।

Christian Faith & Caste Based Benefits 

    To be a Born Again Christian Believer, or a saved person, is to have repented from sins and accepted the Lord Jesus as your personal savior, to have surrendered your life to Him and accepted Him as the Lord and Master of your life, to become committed and obedient to Him (Luke 6:46). On being saved some things and some responsibilities naturally come into the life of the saved person. The saved person becomes part of God's family (John 1:12-13; Ephesians 2:19), a totally new creation where old things are past and over (2 Corinthians 5:17), becomes a person who is not to live according to the world but according to the will of God (Romans 12:1-2). The saved person should have a heavenly outlook (Colossians 3:1-2), and should not get caught up or entangled in the things of this world (1 John 2:15-17; 1 Peter 2:11-12). Having learnt and known about the true and living God, it is best to keep an attitude like Joshua for serving God (Joshua 24:14-15). 

    The saved person now belongs to the Lord Jesus and his life's aim should be to live for his Savior Lord and glorify Him in and through all things (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:15). Now, having been saved, because he is part of God's family, the saved person also is Father God's responsibility; and God has promised to provide for this person's needs always (Matthew 6:24-34; Philippians 4:19), to never leave or forsake him (Hebrews 13:5-6), and to keep him safe in all temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). Therefore, for any needs, for any worldly gains and benefits, this person’s looking towards and relying upon anyone other than the Father God is tantamount to discounting His promises and His faithfulness towards His children, belittling Him, having an improper faith in Him and His promises, and providing Satan and the world an opportunity to mock God and His people, and their faith in Him, and to denigrate them. 

    In Christianity, there is no caste system and no place for any differentiation on grounds of a person’s caste. All Christians are of same status before God (Colossians 3:11), no one is higher or lower than another, therefore to consider one to be of a particular caste, and therefore to consider or make yourself to be lower or higher than another (by comparing yourself with an unsaved person of the world, and that too for mere perishable worldly things, obtained through a direct or an indirect acknowledgement and/or veneration of some other deity than the Lord God Almighty), is to go against the teachings of God's infallible, incontrovertible, eternal Word and to humiliate God. God is not mocked; such denigrating and reprehensible actions against God, that tantamount to denying God invite very serious consequences (Galatians 6:7-8; Joshua 23:16). /Therefore instead of the hypocrisy of hiding the Christian Faith, it is best to disclose it, no matter what the consequences may be (Matthew 10:16-18, 22; 24:9; Mark 13:9). Those who after having come into the Christian Faith, still want to indulge in worldly gains by any means, are afraid that by disclosing their Christian Faith they will no longer be able to have the benefits of being of a “lower caste or group” and therefore they do not disclose their Christian Faith. But by doing so, they are in serious jeopardy, from both the worldly as well as the spiritual point of view. The little that they stand to lose by declaring and adhering to their Christian faith, can be, and will be compensated many times over by the Lord (Matthew 19:29; Mark 10:30; 1 Corinthians 2:9). But the magnitude of the physical and spiritual loss that they and their family stand to suffer by so denying the Lord and becoming a cause for Him and His people being mocked and denigrated, is incalculable, unimaginable, and will go down to their 3rd to 4th generation (Exodus 20:5-7). 

    The only way to enjoy God's care and benefits is to have full faith in Him and to completely rely on Him (Hebrews 11:6; Isaiah 40:31), be obedient to Him and honor Him through our lives and deeds, and separate ourselves from the world (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). 

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
