बाइबल अध्ययन के इन लेखों के द्वारा हम प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के उस हर एक बात का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं, जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दी है। उसे इस ज़िम्मेदारी का योग्य रीति से निर्वाह करना है, क्योंकि अन्ततः, उसे परमेश्वर के सामने खड़े होकर परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई बातों का हिसाब देना होगा। वर्तमान में हम मसीही विश्वासी के परमेश्वर की कलीसिया का, जिसका एक अंग परमेश्वर ने उसे बनाया है, तथा परमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। इस ज़िम्मेदारी का योग्य रीति से निर्वाह करने के लिए, विश्वासी को यह समझना है कि बाइबल के अनुसार वास्तव में परमेश्वर की कलीसिया क्या है; न कि उसे इसके बारे में मनुष्यों की धारणाओं और शिक्षाओं में फँसे पड़े रहना है। पिछले लेखों में हमने परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में सबसे पहली बार “कलीसिया” शब्द के प्रयोग के पद - “और मैं भी तुझ से कहता हूं, कि तू पतरस है; और मैं इस पत्थर पर अपनी कलीसिया बनाऊंगा: और अधोलोक के फाटक उस पर प्रबल न होंगे” (मत्ती 16:18) के बाइबल पर आधारित विश्लेषण से कलीसिया से संबंधित कुछ अति महत्वपूर्ण बातों को देखा और समझा था।

    सबसे पहले हमने देखा था कि बाइबल के अनुसार, कलीसिया शब्द का अर्थ कोई विशिष्ट भौतिक भवन अथवा आराधना स्थल नहीं है, वरन ‘बुलाए गए’ या ‘एकत्रित किए गए’ लोगों का समूह है। फिर हमने कुछ विस्तार से देखा और समझा था कि यह पद एक बहुत आम किन्तु बिलकुल गलत शैतानी धारणा, कि प्रभु ने यहाँ पर अपनी कलीसिया को पतरस पर बनाने के लिए कहा है का कदापि समर्थन नहीं करता है। हमने यह भी देखा है कि कलीसिया किसी मनुष्य पर नहीं, किन्तु प्रभु यीशु और उसके वचन – अर्थात, प्रभु परमेश्वर के द्वारा अपने नबियों और प्रेरितों में होकर दी गई शिक्षाओं की नींव पर स्थापित है। कलीसिया के वास्तविक अर्थ और पतरस के कलीसिया का आधार नहीं होने के स्पष्ट हो जाने के बाद, अब हम इस पद में प्रभु द्वारा कही गई और बातों को देखेंगे तथा समझेंगे, जिससे प्रभु द्वारा लोगों को मसीही विश्वास में बुलाने और उनके जीवनों से प्रभु के प्रयोजन को, उसके उद्देश्यों को हम भली-भांति समझ सकें। 

    मत्ती 16:18 में पतरस से संबंधित बात कहने के पश्चात, प्रभु यीशु का अगला वाक्य था, “...और मैं इस पत्थर पर अपनी कलीसिया बनाऊंगा...”। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि “इस पत्थर” से प्रभु का अभिप्राय पतरस द्वारा मत्ती 16:16 में कही गई बात है कि “... तू जीवते परमेश्वर का पुत्र मसीह है”, जिसका अनुमोदन प्रभु ने पद 17 में किया, जिसके लिए पतरस को धन्य भी कहा, और यह भी कहा कि पतरस को यह प्रभु यीशु के विषय परमेश्वर द्वारा दिया गया स्वर्गीय दर्शन है, उसकी अपनी समझ अथवा बुद्धि की बात नहीं है। मत्ती 16:18 में प्रभु इसी दर्शन के अनुसार अपने द्वारा बुलाए हुए लोगों को एक समूह में एकत्रित करने, अपनी कलीसिया बनाने की बात करता है। मत्ती 16:18 की और बातों को आगे देखने से पहले यह बात समझना और ध्यान में बनाए रखना अनिवार्य है कि पतरस द्वारा पद 16 में कही गई बात, “... तू जीवते परमेश्वर का पुत्र मसीह है” क्यों परमेश्वर द्वारा पतरस को दिया गया एक स्वर्गीय दर्शन है, और क्यों यह बात इतनी महत्वपूर्ण है कि यही प्रभु द्वारा उसकी कलीसिया के बनाए जाने का आधार ठहरेगी।

    ध्यान कीजिए कि पतरस द्वारा मत्ती 16:16 में कही गई बात, “... तू जीवते परमेश्वर का पुत्र मसीह है” में प्रभु के लिए उसका वास्तविक नाम, संज्ञा “यीशु” प्रयोग नहीं किया गया है, जबकि “यीशु” ही उस का नाम था, जो स्वर्गदूत ने यूसुफ को बताया था (मत्ती 1:20-21)। इसलिए यहाँ पर पतरस द्वारा यह कहना कि  “... तू जीवते परमेश्वर का पुत्र यीशु है” अधिक उचित एवं सही होता। किन्तु न तो पतरस ने यह कहा, न ही प्रभु ने उसे सुधार के उस से यह कहलवाया, अपितु, उसकी इसी बात के लिए उसे सराहा और उसे धन्य कहा, तथा इसी बात को पिता परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे प्रदान किया गया स्वर्गीय दर्शन बताया; अर्थात, पतरस ने यह ईश्वरीय दर्शन के द्वारा कहा था। यह कलीसिया की सही समझ प्राप्त करने के लिए अनिवार्य और अत्यावश्यक तथ्य है जिसकी अवहेलना करने के द्वारा कलीसिया के विषय अनेकों गलफहमियाँ ईसाई या मसीही समाज में व्याप्त हो गई हैं, शैतान ने फैला दी हैं। हम देखते हैं कि पतरस द्वारा “यीशु” के स्थान पर “मसीह” प्रयोग करने का क्या अर्थ एवं महत्व है? 

    आम धारणा के विपरीत, “मसीह” प्रभु का नाम नहीं है; वरन उसके कार्य तथा उद्देश्य को बताने के लिए यह प्रभु को दी गई उपाधि या पहचान है। “मसीह”, या अंग्रेजी का “Christ” शब्द मूल यूनानी भाषा के “Christos” शब्द से हैं; और “Christos” शब्द का शब्दार्थ होता है किसी विशेष कार्य के लिए अभिषिक्त या मस्सा किया हुआ, या अंग्रेजी में “the Anointed one”; और हिन्दी के “मस्सा किया हुआ” से ही “मसीह” शब्द आया है। अर्थात जब पतरस ने प्रभु के प्रश्न के उत्तर में कहा कि “... तू जीवते परमेश्वर का पुत्र मसीह है”, तो वास्तव में पिता परमेश्वर ने पतरस से प्रभु यीशु के लिए कहलवाया था कि “तू ही वह परमेश्वर का पुत्र है जो अभिषिक्त या मस्सा किया हुआ है” - पतरस पर पिता परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रभु यीशु के परमेश्वर का पुत्र और जगत का एकमात्र उद्धारकर्ता होने का दर्शन प्रकट किया गया, और उसने इस दर्शन को अपने शब्दों में बोल दिया। और जब प्रभु यीशु ने पतरस द्वारा कहे गए इस वाक्य को वह “पत्थर”, अर्थात वह ‘पेत्रा’, या वह “स्थिर, दृढ़, और अडिग चट्टान” कहा जिस पर वह अपनी कलीसिया, या अपने बुलाए और एकत्रित किए हुए लोगों के समूह को स्थापित करने जा रहा था, तो प्रभु के कहने का अभिप्राय था कि “जो भी इस विश्वास के साथ उसके पास आएगा कि केवल वही परमेश्वर का पुत्र और पिता परमेश्वर की ओर से ठहराया हुआ, अभिषिक्त किया हुआ जगत का एकमात्र उद्धारकर्ता है, वही और केवल वही उसके एकत्रित किए हुओं में सम्मिलित होगा, उनके लोगों का एक भाग होगा”। प्रभु की कलीसिया का सदस्य होने के लिए इस वाक्य के महत्व पर ध्यान कीजिए, उसे अपने मन में गहराई से उतर लेने दीजिए; उस को समझिए, और आज “कलीसिया” या “चर्च” से संबंधित कई गलत धारणाओं की सच्चाई प्रकट हो जाएगी। हम अगले लेख में इसे और आगे देखेंगे तथा समझेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Building the Church – 8 – On The Lord Jesus Christ – 1

Through these Bible study articles, we are learning about every Born-Again Christian Believer being a steward of whatever God has given him. He has to carry out this responsibility worthily, since eventually he will stand before God to give an account of what God had placed in his hands. Presently, we are learning about the Christian Believer being a steward of the Church of God of which God has made him a member and of fellowshipping with other of God’s children, the other Christian Believers. To worthily fulfil this responsibility, the Believer has to understand about what, Biblically speaking, the Church of God actually is, instead of remaining bogged down by man-made concepts and teachings. In the preceding articles we have seen through Matthew 16:18, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” The word Church has been used for the very first time in the Bible in this verse.

    We have seen some important Biblical facts about the Church. First, we had seen that according to the Bible, the word Church does not stand for any building, place of worship, or an organization. Rather it means a group of ‘called out people.’ We then saw in some detail that this verse does not at all support or imply a very commonly held misunderstanding that the Lord, here, was talking about building His Church on Peter. We also saw that the Church is founded not on any man, but on the Lord Jesus and His Word – i.e., the teachings given by the Lord God through His apostles and prophets. Having understood the actual meaning of the word “Church” and why the Church is not built on Peter, we will now look at and understand the other things said by the Lord in this verse bout building His Church. Through this understanding we can clearly understand the calling of the people by Lord Jesus into Christian Faith, His purpose for their lives, and what He is accomplishing through them.

    In Matthew 16:18, after saying the part related to Peter, the next thing the Lord Jesus said was “...on this rock I will build My church...” We have already seen that the words “this rock” are meant for what Peter had stated in Matthew 16:16 that “...You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” which the Lord not only affirmed in verse 17, but also appreciated Peter and commended him for saying this, and said that his saying so was a heavenly revelation to him God the Father. In Matthew 16:18, the Lord Jesus is talking about gathering His called-out ones according to this heavenly revelation together, to form His Church. Before looking at the other things said in Matthew 16:18, it is necessary to understand and bear in mind why Peter’s statement in verse 16, “...You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”, is a heavenly revelation, and why this statement is so important that it would be the basis of the Lord building His Church.

    Take note that in when Peter in Matthew 16:16 said that “...You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” he did not use the proper noun, the actual name of the Lord, “Jesus,” which was the name of the Lord, and which the angel had told his earthly father Joseph, would be his name (Matthew 1:20-21). Therefore, it would have been more appropriate and specific for Peter to have said “...You are Jesus, the Son of the living God.” But not only did Peter not say this, the Lord also did not correct him and had him say it. Rather, the Lord appreciated and commended Peter for what he said and called his statement a heavenly revelation given to Him by God; i.e., Peter said this under divine inspiration. This is a very basic and important fact that is very necessary to learn and understand, to have a proper understanding of the Church. Because of neglecting to pay attention to it, because of ignoring it, many wrong doctrines and false teachings related to the Church have become rampant in Christendom, started and spread by Satan to cause harm to the Church. Let us see what is the meaning and importance of the word “Christ” used by Peter, instead of “Jesus”?

    Contrary to the common belief and understanding, “Christ” is not the name of the Lord Jesus; it is a title given to Him to denote His work and purpose. The word “Christ” comes from the Greek word “Christos” used in the original language, and its literal meaning is ‘one who is anointed to carry out a specific work,’ which in English can also be stated as ‘the Anointed One.’ So, when Peter, in response to the Lord’s question, said to Him “...You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” what God the Father through the heavenly revelation had made him say was “you are the Anointed Son of God” - God the Father had revealed to Peter that the Lord Jesus was the Son of God, the Anointed one and only savior and redeemer of mankind, which Peter then spoke out in those words. Then, the Lord Jesus said for the statement Peter had made that it, i.e., the revelation received by Peter from God, was the “petra” i.e., the firm, unshakeable, established “rock” on which He will be building His Church, will be establishing the group of His called-out ones. The implication of what the Lord said regarding Peter’s statement can be surmised as follows: “whoever comes to Him with the faith that He, the Lord Jesus, is the Son of God and the only one anointed by God to be the one and only savior and redeemer, only that person will be included amongst His called-out ones, entitled to be one of His people.” Ponder over the importance of this statement about being a member of the Lord’s Church, and let it sink in; understand it, and the actual truth about many of the wrong concepts and notions about the “Church” or “Assembly” prevalent today will be exposed and become clear. In the next article we will consider and understand this further.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

परमेश्वर की कलीसिया के तथा उस की अन्य सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने योग्य भण्डारी होने के लिए, नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी होने के नाते, हम प्रभु की कलीसिया, तथा परमेश्वर की सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। प्रभु ने मत्ती 16:18 में कहा कि वह ही अपनी कलीसिया बनाएगा। किन्तु शैतान इस पद का दुरुपयोग करके, एक गलत शिक्षा ले आया है, जो दुर्भाग्यवश, ईसाई या मसीही समाज में काफी मान्य और प्रचलित भी हो गई है, कि प्रभु ने अपनी कलीसिया पतरस पर बनाई है। हमने इस पद के विश्लेषण के द्वारा, तथा पवित्र शास्त्र के अन्य भागों से इस बात को देखा है कि यह एक अस्वीकार्य और गलत धारणा है। अभी हम बाइबल से पतरस के चरित्र के कुछ गुणों को देख रहे हैं जो यह दिखाते हैं कि क्यों वह कलीसिया का आधार कभी नहीं हो सकता था। पिछले दो लेखों में हमने कुछ गुण देखे हैं, और कुछ अन्य को आज देख कर इस भाग का समापन करेंगे।

• पतरस में प्रभु की विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया की स्थापना का दर्शन नहीं था; इसी अपरिपक्वता और दर्शनों की नासमझी के कारण, वह यह नहीं समझ सका था कि प्रभु अन्यजातियों से भी उतना ही प्रेम करता है जितना यहूदियों से, जैसा उसने प्रेरितों 1:8 में शिष्यों तथा पतरस से सामरिया और संसार के छोर तक जाकर प्रचार करने के दायित्व देने के द्वारा प्रकट किया था। वह कुरनेलियुस के घर जाकर अपनी इसी अपरिपक्वता और नासमझी को प्रकट करता है,  कुरनेलियुस के घर पहुँचने के बाद भी, पतरस वहाँ पर, यहूदी होने के कारण अपने आप को ‘उच्च’ दिखाने का प्रयास करता है, बजाए इसके कि जिसके यहाँ प्रभु ने उसे भेजा है, उसके साथ आदर से बात करे (प्रेरितों 10:28-29)। जो व्यक्ति प्रभु के सुसमाचार के विश्वव्यापी उद्देश्य को नहीं समझता था, वह प्रभु की विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया के दर्शन को क्या जानेगा, और उसका आधार कैसे होगा?

• पतरस लोगों को दिखाने के लिए अपने मसीही व्यवहार को बदलने और कपट करने वाला व्यक्ति था, और उसके इस व्यवहार के कारण उसके साथ रहने वाले और भी लोग बहक जाते थे। गलातियों 2:11-21 में, घटना लिखी गई है जब पौलुस के मसीही हो जाने के चौदह वर्षों (गलातियों 2:1) से भी अधिक के बाद, अर्थात पतरस ने लगभग दो दशकों तक कलीसिया में कार्य करते रहने के बाद भी, लोगों को दिखाने के लिए अपने आप को यहूदियों को स्वीकार्य दिखाने का प्रयास किया था, और उसके साथ बरनबास जैसे विश्वासी लोग भी इस बात में गिर गए। यह इतनी गंभीर गलती थी, कि पतरस के इस व्यवहार और उसकी भर्त्सना के लिए पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा इस व्यवहार और उससे संबंधित बातों के लिए “कपट” (पद 13 ), “सुसमाचार की सच्चाई पर सीधी चाल नहीं चलना” (पद 14), “विश्वास की नहीं वरन कर्मों की धार्मिकता को दिखाने वाला” (पद 16), “पापी” (पद 17), “अपराधी” (पद 18), “परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह को व्यर्थ ठहराने वाला” (पद 21) जैसे कठोर और कटु शब्दों का सब के सामने, सार्वजनिक रीति से उपयोग किया, और इस घटना को तथा उससे संबंधित भर्त्सना के उन शब्दों को अनन्तकाल के लिए अपने वचन में लिखवा भी दिया, जिससे आज हम पतरस के समान ही मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न करने के लिए परमेश्वर की शिक्षाओं से विमुख होने की इस गलती में न पड़ जाएं।

    अब विचार कीजिए, क्या प्रभु जो आदि से लेकर अन्त तक की हर बात को जानता है, जिससे कोई बात छुपी नहीं है, जिसके लिए भविष्य भी वर्तमान के समान ही है, क्या वह ऐसे अस्थिर और डांवांडोल व्यवहार और प्रवृत्ति रखने वाले मनुष्य पर कलीसिया स्थापित करेगा? वह भी अपनी स्वयं की शिक्षा (मत्ती 7:24-27) के विरुद्ध?

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञाकारिता एवं अधीनता में वचन की सच्चाइयों को उससे समझें। किसी के भी द्वारा कही गई कोई भी बात को तुरंत ही पूर्ण सत्य के रूप में स्वीकार न करें, विशेषकर तब, जब वह बात बाइबल की अन्य बातों के साथ ठीक मेल नहीं रखती हो। सदा इस बात का ध्यान रखें कि वचन के हर शब्द, हर बात को न केवल उसके तात्कालिक संदर्भ में देखें, समझें, तथा व्याख्या करें, वरन यह भी सुनिश्चित करें कि आपकी वह समझ और व्याख्या वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई संबंधित बातों एवं शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप भी है, उनके साथ किसी प्रकार का कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है। कभी भी किसी भी गलत शिक्षा को न तो स्वीकार करें और न ही उसका प्रचार और प्रसार करें; परमेश्वर अपने वचन की सच्चाइयों की अवहेलना करने वालों को फिर उन्हीं की मनसा के अनुसार भयानक भ्रम और विनाश में डाल देता है (यहेजकेल 14:7-8; 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:10-12)।

Building the Church – 7 – On Peter? – 7

 

To be worthy stewards of God’s Church and of fellowshipping with God’s other children, as Born-Again Christian Believers, we are learning about the Church of the Lord and about the fellowshipping with God’s children. The Lord said in Matthew 16:18, that He will build His Church. But Satan has manipulated the Lord’s Word, and brought in a false teaching, that unfortunately has been commonly accepted and believed upon in Christendom, that the Lord has built His Church on Peter. We have seen from the analysis of this verse, as well as other portions of the Scriptures that this is an untenable false notion. We are now considering some of Peter’s character traits from the Bible, that show why he could never be the foundation of the Church. We have already seen some of these in the previous two articles, and will see some more today, and conclude this part.

• Peter did not have the vision of the world-wide Church of the Lord that included the gentiles; because of this lack of spiritual maturity and his inability to understand the visions from the Lord, he did not understand that the Lord loved the gentiles just as much as he loved the Jews, as the Lord had expressed when He had asked the disciples, including Peter, to go to Samaria and the ends of the world with the gospel (Acts 1:8). Peter exposed this lack of spiritual maturity and lack of understanding on reaching the house of Cornelius, after reaching the house of Cornelius, Peter tries to show off his ‘superiority’ as a Jew, instead of treating the one to whom the Lord has sent him, respectfully (Acts 10:28-29). The person who does not understand the world-wide application of the gospel, how can he be expected to have an understanding about the world-wide Church of the Lord Jesus? How then can he ever be the foundation for building that world-wide Church?

• Peter was prone to change his Christian behavior and be hypocritical about it, to please people and be seen to be right in their eyes, and because of this, others with him too would fall into the same wrong. In Galatians 2:11-21, an incident is given, when more than 14 years after the conversion of Paul (Galatians 2:1), i.e., after Peter,s nearly two-decades of working in and for the Church of the Lord, he tried to make himself pleasing to men and not offend them by acting hypocritically, and even Believer’s like Barnabas fell into the same hypocrisy because of him, with him. This was such a serious wrong that the Holy Spirit through Paul rebuked him severely, called his behavior by various unpleasant, very strong and deprecating expressions, e.g., “hypocrisy” (v. 13), “that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel” (v. 14), showing himself as justified by works and not by faith (v. 16), “sinners” and “minister of sin” (v. 17), a “transgressor” (v. 18), and one who “set aside the grace of God” (v. 21). Not only did the God the Holy Spirit say all this to Peter and the others through Paul openly and publicly, but also had it recorded for eternity in God’s eternal unalterable Word, so that today, we may not fall into the same grave mistake of going against the teachings of the Lord for the sake of pleasing men.

 

    Now think for yourself, can the Lord God who knows everything about everything and everyone, from the beginning to the end; from whom nothing is hidden; for whom past-present-future are all alike, without any differentiation, would He establish His Church on such a shaky and vacillating man; one who could make others fall because of his hypocrisy, rashness, and impatience, and refuse to obey God for the sake of his own contrived righteousness? Will the Lord go against His own teachings of Matthew 7:24-27 for such a man?

    If you are a Christian Believer, then you should learn to discern and understand the truths of God’s Word under the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Do not accept anything and everything as the truth unless and until you have cross-checked and verified it from the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit; more so when that thing does not seem to be consistent with the other related things of the Bible. Those who knowingly and willingly choose to go against the truths and facts of God’s Word, choose to believe and do according to their thinking and mentality, God sends them into a terrible deception and destruction (Ezekiel 14:7-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने हम नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों को अपनी कलीसिया के अंग बनाया है तथा हमें अपनी सन्तानों की सहभागिता में रखा है, इसलिए परमेश्वर के प्रावधानों के योग्य भण्डारी होने के लिए हम प्रभु की कलीसिया तथा उसकी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। प्रभु यीशु ने कहा है कि वही अपनी कलीसिया को बनाएगा, न कि कोई मनुष्य अथवा मानवीय संस्था (मत्ती 16:18)। इसी पद से शैतान ने एक गलत शिक्षा भी डाल दी है, जो ईसाई या मसीही समाज में काफी मान्य एवं प्रचलित है, कि प्रभु ने अपनी कलीसिया पतरस पर बनाई है। पिछले लेखों में इस पद का विश्लेषण करने, तथा पवित्र शास्त्र में से अन्य संबंधित खण्डों को देखने के द्वारा हमने इस धारणा की त्रुटि को समझा है। पिछले लेख से हमने यह देखना आरम्भ किया है कि एक व्यक्ति के रूप में, क्यों पतरस कभी भी प्रभु की कलीसिया का आधार नहीं हो सकता था। आज, तथा अगले लेख में हम बाइबल में पतरस के चरित्र से संबंधित दी गई कुछ बातों को देखेंगे, जो यह दिखाती है कि क्यों वह कभी भी प्रभु की कलीसिया के लिए अनिवार्य स्थिर नींव नहीं हो सकता था।

प्रभु के पुनरुत्थान और स्वर्गारोहण के बाद की बातों को देखने से हमें, कई परिवर्तनों के बावजूद, पतरस के व्यवहार में फिर भी कुछ खामियाँ दिखाई देती हैं, जो उसे अस्थिर और डांवांडोल तथा उस पर कलीसिया के स्थापित किए जाने के लिए अनुपयुक्त प्रकट करती हैं। ये बातें हैं:

• पतरस उतावली से कार्य कर देता था, अधीर था; जिससे उसके साथ रहने वाले भी उसकी बातों में आकर बहक जाते थे। इसके दो उदाहरण हैं, पहला, यूहन्ना 21:2-3 पद में, जब वह वापस अपने पुराने काम, मछली पकड़ने की ओर लौट गया, और उसके साथ छः और लोग भी चले गए, किन्तु सभी असफल रहे। दूसरा, प्रेरितों 1:15-26 में, बिना प्रभु के ऐसे किसी निर्देश के, और बिना प्रभु की आज्ञा के, प्रभु से पूछे बिना, उसने यह निर्णय लिया कि यहूदा इस्करियोती के स्थान पर किसी और को नियुक्त किया जाए; और सभी लोग उसकी बातों में भी आ गए, यह कर दिया। किन्तु ऐसा कोई प्रमाण नहीं है कि उनके द्वारा नियुक्त व्यक्ति को वचन में कोई स्वीकृति मिली हो। बारहवें प्रेरित का यह पद बाद में प्रभु ने पौलुस को दिया। यह विश्लेषण एक पृथक विषय है, जिसे हम यहाँ पर नहीं देख पाएंगे। 

• पतरस का ध्यान, कम से कम उस आरंभिक समय में, प्रभु द्वारा दिए जा रहे निर्देशों पर कम, औरों के साथ अपनी तुलना करने में अधिक रहता था; जो आरंभिक कलीसिया के लिए अत्यावश्यक स्थिरता और निष्पक्षता के व्यवहार के अनुरूप नहीं था। इसका उदाहरण भी हम यूहन्ना 21:18-22 में देखते हैं; प्रभु पतरस को उसकी आने वाली सेवकाई और जिम्मेदारियों के विषय सिखाना चाह रहा है, और पतरस का ध्यान प्रभु की बात पर नहीं वरन अपने साथी यूहन्ना के भविष्य पर लगा है। जिसके विषय फिर प्रभु को उसे एक डाँट लगानी पड़ती है (पद 22)। 

• पतरस अभी स्वर्गीय दर्शनों को समझने और उनके अनुसार कार्य करने के लिए अपरिपक्व था। प्रेरितों 10:10-16 में प्रभु उसे दर्शन के द्वारा संसार के सभी लोगों के पास जाकर सुसमाचार प्रचार करने की बात दिखा और बता रहा है, जो प्रभु द्वारा शिष्यों से प्रेरितों 1:8 में कही बात के अनुरूप था; और वह उसे केवल अपनी शारीरिक स्थिति, उसके उस समय भूखे होने के अनुसार समझ कर, और अपने आप को व्यवस्था के अनुसार धर्मी बता कर, प्रभु की बात को मानने से इनकार कर रहा है। और प्रेरितों 10:17 में लिखा है कि जब कुरनेलियुस के घर से लोग उसके पास पहुँचे, तब भी वह असमंजस में ही पड़ा हुआ था। यदि उसकी आत्मिक परिपक्वता उचित स्तर की होती तो समझ जाता कि जो दर्शन उसने देखा और जहाँ जाने के लिए प्रभु ने बुलावा भेजा है, वे एक ही बात हैं, जिसके लिए प्रभु उसे उस दर्शन के द्वारा आगाह कर रहा था (प्रेरितों 10:19-20)।

    अगले लेख में हम बाइबल में दी गई पतरस की कुछ अन्य बातों को देखेंगे जो उसे कलीसिया का आधार होने के अयोग्य ठहराती हैं।

Building the Church – 6 – On Peter? – 6

 

    Since God has made us, the Born-Again Christian Believers members of His Church and has placed us in the fellowship of His other children, therefore to serve worthily as stewards of God given provisions, we are learning about the Lord’s Church and about fellowshipping with His children. The Lord Jesus has said that He, not any person or human organization, will build His Church (Matthew 16:18). From this same verse, Satan has brought in a false teaching, which unfortunately is quite popular in Christendom, that the Lord has built His Church on Peter. In the preceding articles, having analyzed this verse, and having studied other relevant Scriptures, we have seen the fallacy of this notion. From the last article we have started to see how Peter, as a person, could never have been the foundation of the Lord’s Church. Today and in the next article, we will see some of Peter’s character traits from the Bible, that show why he could never provide the firm foundation required for the Lord’s Church.

    After the resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus, despite the many changes, we still see some short-comings and wrongs in the Christian life and behavior of Peter, which clearly show him to be shaky and unworthy of being considered as the foundation of the Assembly or Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. These things in Peter’s life are:

• Peter would act rashly, he was impatient; because of this, those with him would also do the same wrong things. We have two examples of this, first is in John 21:2-3, when he went back to his initial livelihood - fishing, and six others from the disciples of the Lord followed suit; but despite their toil and labor, they all remained unsuccessful. Second, in Acts 1:15-26, without any such instructions from the Lord, and without asking the Lord, without the permission or instructions of the Lord to do so, he decided to have someone appointed in the place of Judas Iscariot; and everyone gathered there fell for his logic and arguments, and did so. But there is no Scriptural affirmation that the person they chose and appointed “through God” was accepted by God to take that position. This place of being the twelfth Apostle was later given to Paul. This analysis is a separate topic which we will not be able to consider here.

• Peter’s attention used to be more upon the others around him, comparing them with himself, than on what the Lord was saying to him, at least in the initial phase, before the Lord’s ascension. We see this from John 21:18-22, where the Lord is instructing him about his ministry and work in the days to come, but Peter’s attention is upon his colleague John and what was to happen to John. The Lord had to pull-up Peter (v. 22) to get him to pay attention to the Lord.

• Peter was not mature enough to understand heavenly visions and work according to them; he would even refuse to do God’s bidding. We see in Acts 10:10-16 that the Lord is showing to him through a vision to go and preach the gospel to all people of the world, what the Lord had said to the disciples in Acts 1:8; but he is looking at and understanding the heavenly vision only from the perspective of his then physical condition, of being hungry and even refuses to accept the Lord’s instructions about it, citing his own contrived righteousness of following the Law. It is also written in Acts 10:17 that when people from the house of Cornelius reached him, he was still perplexed about it. If he had the spiritual maturity, he would have understood that the vision he saw, and the call he had received from the Lord through those people were about the same ministry, and the Lord was calling him for a purpose (Acts 10:19-20).

In the next article we will see some more things about Peter from the Bible that show his being unworthy of being the foundation of the Church.

कलीसिया का निर्माण – 5 – पतरस पर? – 5

 

परमेश्वर के प्रावधानों का योग्य भण्डारी होने के लिए मसीही विश्वासियों को उन प्रावधानों के बारे में सीखना भी चाहिए। क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को अपनी कलीसिया का एक अंग बनाया है और उसे अपने अन्य सन्तानों की संगति में रखा है, इसलिए हम परमेश्वर के वचन से प्रभु की कलीसिया और उसकी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। वर्तमान में हम प्रभु के कथन कि अपनी कलीसिया को वह स्वयं बनाएगा (मत्ती 16:18), न कि कोई मनुष्य अथवा संस्था, को देख रहे हैं। प्रभु द्वारा अपनी कलीसिया बनाने के साथ जुड़ी हुए एक प्रचलित किन्तु गलत धारणा है कि प्रभु ने अपनी कलीसिया पतरस पर बनाई है। पिछले लेखों में हमने प्रभु यीशु मत्ती 16:18 में प्रयुक्त शब्दों के विश्लेषण द्वारा देखा था कि उसने कलीसिया को पतरस पर बनाने के लिए नहीं कहा था। फिर हमने देखा था कि पवित्र शास्त्र कहीं पर भी, कभी भी, किसी भी रीति से इस दावे का समर्थन नहीं करता है, कोई संकेत भी नहीं करता है कि कलीसिया पतरस पर बनाई गई है। आज से हम तीसरी बात, “क्या पतरस इस आदर और आधार के योग्य था?” को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने पहाड़ी उपदेश (मत्ती 5-7 अध्याय) के अंत की ओर आ कर एक दृष्टांत दिया था - दो घर बनाने वालों का (मत्ती 7:24-27)। घर बनाने वाला एक व्यक्ति मूर्ख ठहरा क्योंकि उसने स्थिर और दृढ़ नींव पर घर नहीं बनाया, और वह घर परिस्थितियों का सामना नहीं कर सका, शीघ्र ही गिर गया। दूसरा घर बनाने वाला बुद्धिमान ठहरा, क्योंकि उसने घर की नींव चट्टान (यूनानी “पेत्रा” न कि “पेत्रोस”) पर डाली थी, इसलिए उसका घर स्थिर बना रहा, सभी परिस्थितियों को झेल सका। फिर निष्कर्ष में प्रभु ने कहा है कि वह दृढ़ चट्टान जिस पर स्थिर और अडिग घर या जीवन स्थापित होता है, उसकी शिक्षाएं हैं। जो प्रभु की बातें मानता है, वह चट्टान पर बने घर के समान स्थिर और दृढ़ बना रहेगा; किन्तु जो प्रभु की बातों को सुनता तो है, परंतु उनका पालन नहीं करता है वह उस मूर्ख मनुष्य के समान होगा जिसका घर या जीवन, विपरीत परिस्थितियों को झेल नहीं सकेगा, स्थिर बना नहीं रहेगा। अपनी सेवकाई के आरंभ में ही यह शिक्षा देने के बाद, क्या यह संभव है कि प्रभु अपनी ही दी हुई शिक्षा से पलट कर, अपनी विश्व-व्यापी कलीसिया को किसी अस्थिर, डांवांडोल रहने वाले मनुष्य पर स्थापित करेगा?

आज से हम वचन में दी गई बातों के आधार पर देखेंगे कि क्या पतरस कलीसिया या मण्डली के लिए अत्यावश्यक यह स्थिर, दृढ़, और अडिग आधार हो सकता था? क्या विभिन्न परिस्थितियों और अवसरों पर, वचन में दिया गया पतरस का व्यवहार, इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि वह डांवांडोल नहीं, वरन प्रभु की शिक्षाओं और निर्देशों पर सदा स्थिर और अडिग रहने वाला व्यक्ति था? इस विश्लेषण के लिए हम प्रभु के पुनरुत्थान से पहले की बातों को नहीं देखेंगे; क्योंकि यह प्रकट है कि प्रभु के मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने, और मृतकों में से जी उठने और शिष्यों को दर्शन देने के बाद, प्रभु के उनसे मिलते रहने और उन्हें सेवकाई के लिए तैयार करने के द्वारा शिष्यों तथा पतरस में बहुत परिवर्तन आया था। किन्तु इस परिवर्तन के बावजूद, क्या पतरस प्रभु में अपने विश्वास और मण्डली में अपने मसीही व्यवहार में ऐसा स्थिर, दृढ़, और स्थापित हो गया था कि उसे कलीसिया का आधार बनाया जा सके?

 साथ ही ध्यान करें, मत्ती 28:18-20 में - जो स्वर्गारोहण से पहले प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को दी गई उनकी सेवकाई के विषय महान आज्ञा है, प्रभु ने शिष्यों से जाकर लोगों को उसका शिष्य बनाने, और जो शिष्य बन जाएं उन्हें उसकी सिखाई हुई बातों को सिखाने का निर्देश दिया है। वहाँ प्रभु ने यह नहीं कहा कि जैसा पतरस बताए या सिखाए, वही करना, वैसा ही सिखाना। एक बार फिर प्रभु ने स्वयं इस बात को दिखा दिया कि उसकी कलीसिया पतरस की बातों पर नहीं, प्रभु की शिक्षाओं पर स्थापित होगी; जैसा हम पिछले लेख में विस्तार से देख चुके हैं।

आने वाले लेखों में हम बाइबल में लिखी गई पतरस की कुछ दुर्बलताओं को देखेंगे, जो यह प्रकट करती हैं कि क्यों पतरस कभी वह स्थिर आधार नहीं हो सकता था जिसे प्रभु की कलीसिया की नींव होना था।

Building the Church – 5 – On Peter? – 5

 

    To be a worthy steward of God’s provisions, the Christian Believers must learn about them. Since God has made every Born-Again Christan Believer a member of His Church and has placed him in fellowship with other of His children, therefore we are learning from God’s Word about the Church of the Lord and about fellowshipping with His children. Presently, we are considering the Lord Jesus’s statement that He, not any man or organization, will build His Church (Matthew 16:18). One common misconception associated with the Lord’s building of His Church is that He built it on Peter. In the previous articles we have analyzed the words used by the Lord in Matthew 16:18 and seen that in this verse He has not said that He will build His Church on Peter. We then saw that the Scriptures at no point, not in any manner, ever support or indicate that the Church was built on Peter. From today we will look at the third point “Was Peter even worthy of this honor, of being considered to be the foundation for the Church?”

    At the end of His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5-7), the Lord Jesus spoke a parable of two house-builders (Matthew 7:24-27). One house-builder turned out to be foolish because he did not build his house on a firm and unshakeable foundation, and his house could not remain standing in adverse circumstances, fell down quite soon. The other house-builder was called wise because he laid the foundation of his house on a rock (Greek “petra” not “petros”), so his house could withstand all adverse circumstances and stood firm. In conclusion, the Lord said that firm, unshakeable rock, on which a steady and firm life is built are His teachings. Whoever obeys the teachings and Word of the Lord, will remain steadfast like the house built on a rock; but the one who does not obey the Lord will be like the foolish house-builder whose house i.e., life could not withstand the circumstances and collapsed. The Lord had given these teachings at the beginning of His earthly ministry; is it possible that now towards the end of the ministry He will go against His own teachings and speak of establishing His world-wide Church on a shaky, vacillating man?

    From today we will begin to see on the basis of God’s Word, could Peter have been the firm and unshakeable foundation, that was required to build the Assembly or the Church of the Lord Jesus? Does Peter’s behavior under various circumstances and in various situations show us that he was not a shaky, vacillating person, but someone who was always firm and undeterred in following the teachings and instructions of the Lord? In analyzing this, we will not look at Peter’s life and behavior before the Lord’s resurrection; because it is quite evident that after seeing the resurrected Lord, being with Him for forty days, learning from Him during that time, and being made ready by the Lord for their coming ministry, a lot of changes came in the lives and attitudes of the disciples, including Peter. But despite these changes, did Peter really become the firm unshakeable person in his faith and obedience to the Lord, that he could be considered as the firm and unshakeable foundation upon which the Church could safely be built?

    Also note that in Matthew 28:18-20, in His Great Commission to His disciples about their ministry, given just before His ascension, the Lord has instructed His disciples to go and make other disciples; and to those who become His disciples, give them His teachings. The Lord did not say here to do and teach as Peter would instruct and tell them to do. Once more the Lord has shown that His Church will not be built on Peter’s teachings but on the teachings of the Lord Jesus, as we have seen in detail in the previous article.

    We will see in the subsequent articles some short-comings recorded in the Bible about Peter, that show he could never provide the firm foundation required for the Lord’s church.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाए गए प्रावधानों में से एक है उसे परमेश्वर की कलीसिया का एक अंग बनाया जाना तथा परमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों की सहभागिता में लाया जाना। जैसा कि परमेश्वर के प्रत्येक प्रावधान के लिए है, इसके लिए भी प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर का भण्डारी है और उसे योग्य रीति से इसका निर्वाह करना है। इसलिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर की कलीसिया के, तथा उसकी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता के बारे में सीखना है। इन बातों को सीखते हुए, हमने मत्ती 16:18 से देखा है कि प्रभु यीशु ने कहा है कि अपनी कलीसिया वह ही बनाएगा, कोई मनुष्य अथवा संस्था नहीं। इसी पद से एक गलत धारणा भी बहुत प्रचलित कर दी गई है कि प्रभु ने अपनी कलीसिया पतरस पर बनाई है। हमने इस पद के संदर्भ, शब्दों के अर्थ, और उनके उपयोग के द्वारा देखा है कि प्रभु यीशु ने कभी यह बात नहीं कही है; कलीसिया का पतरस पर बनाया जाना एक गलतफहमी है, बाइबल का तथ्य नहीं। पिछले लेख से हम ने बाइबल के उन अन्य खण्डों को भी देखना आरम्भ किया है जो जो इस बात की पुष्टि करते हैं कि न तो कलीसिया कभी पतरस पर बनाई गई, और न ही कभी उसे पतरस पर बनाया जाना था। आज हम इसी को और आगे देखेंगे, तथा बाइबल के कुछ और खण्डों को देखेंगे जो हमारी बात को प्रमाणित करते हैं।

    जैसा हमने पिछले लेख में कहा था, दो महत्वपूर्ण पद हैं जो कलीसिया के पतरस पर बनाए जाने के दावे का खण्डन करते हैं। इनमें से एक पद को हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था। इस पद से संबंधित जिस दूसरे पद की अनदेखी और अवहेलना की जाती है, वह है “और प्रेरितों और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं की नेव पर जिसके कोने का पत्थर मसीह यीशु आप ही है, बनाए गए हो। जिस में सारी रचना एक साथ मिलकर प्रभु में एक पवित्र मन्दिर बनती जाती है” (इफिसियों 2:20-21)। पद 20 भी यही बताता है कि कलीसिया की नींव, उसका आधार प्रेरितों और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं द्वारा जो बातें और शिक्षाएं प्रभु ने प्रदान की हैं, अर्थात परमेश्वर का वचन है - जो आदि से था, परमेश्वर का स्वरूप है, और जिसने प्रभु यीशु के रूप में देहधारी होकर हमारे साथ निवास किया (यूहन्ना 1:1, 2, 14)। साथ ही, इस 20 पद में “प्रेरितों और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं” के बहुवचन में प्रयोग पर ध्यान कीजिए। तात्पर्य यह है कि यह नींव, यह आधार, कोई एक व्यक्ति कदापि नहीं था; वरन प्रभु के वे अनेक प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता थे जिनमें होकर प्रभु का वचन लोगों तक पहुँचा; और पतरस निःसंदेह उनमें से एक था, किन्तु वही एकमात्र कदापि नहीं था। एक बार फिर यह पतरस के एकमात्र आधार होने की धारणा को गलत ठहराता है। साथ ही 20 पद यह भी दिखाता है कि इन सभी प्रेरितों और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं की शिक्षाओं को साथ और संगत रखने वाला वह “कोने का पत्थर”, जिससे सारी नींव एवं भवन-निर्माण की सिधाई और दिशा जाँची जाती है, स्थापित की जाती है, स्वयं प्रभु यीशु मसीह है। फिर 21 पद में लिखा है कि कलीसिया की यह सारी रचना साथ मिलकर “प्रभु में एक पवित्र मन्दिर बनती जाती है” - पतरस में नहीं, प्रभु में!

    स्वयं पतरस भी उसके द्वारा लिखी गई पत्रियों में उसके कलीसिया का आधार होने की बात की पुष्टि करना तो दूर, ऐसा कोई संकेत भी नहीं देता है कि प्रभु ने उसे कलीसिया का आधार नियुक्त किया है, जिसके अनुसार वह इस दायित्व का निर्वाह कर रहा है। दोनों पत्रियों के आरंभ में उसने अपने आप को केवल प्रभु का प्रेरित कहा है, और दूसरी पत्री के आरंभ में प्रभु का दास भी कहा है, किन्तु कलीसिया का आधार होने को न तो कहीं कहा है और न ही इसका कोई संकेत दिया है।

    प्रेरितों के काम के 15 अध्याय में भी जब यरूशलेम में मण्डलियों में फैलाई जा रही कुछ गलत शिक्षाओं के विषय चर्चा एवं निर्णय करने के लिए उस प्रारंभिक मण्डली के अगुवे एकत्रित हुए (प्रेरितों 15:6), वहाँ पर उठी चर्चा में पतरस का नाम, अर्थात उसका अवसर, आरंभ में नहीं “बहुत वाद-विवाद के बाद” आया (प्रेरितों 15:7), और उसने किसी अधिकार अथवा वर्चस्व के साथ नहीं वरन अन्य लोगों के समान एक सदस्य के रूप में अपना तर्क रखा। तथा फिर 12 पद से आगे लिखा है कि अन्य लोग भी अपने विचार रखने लगे, फिर अन्ततः 22 पद में जाकर “प्रेरितों और प्राचीनों” के द्वारा सर्वसम्मति से निर्णय लिया गया। कहीं पर भी पतरस के किसी विशेष स्तर अथवा स्थान, या सभा को संचालित करने, अंतिम निर्णय लेने, आदि जैसी बातों का कोई उल्लेख नहीं है; जबकि यह व्यवहार कलीसिया का “आधार” या “मुख्य संचालक” समझे जाने वाले से अपेक्षित है; तात्पर्य यह कि उस सभा में पतरस को कलीसिया के “आधार” अथवा “संचालक” नहीं देखा या माना जाता था। 

    अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन में कहीं पर भी इस बात का समर्थन नहीं है कि प्रभु ने कलीसिया को पतरस पर आधारित कर के बनाने की बात कही, जिसे फिर आरंभिक कलीसिया के द्वारा निभाया गया। अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे और विश्लेषण करेंगे कि क्या प्रभु “कलीसिया को पतरस पर बनाने” के योग्य समझ कर उसे यह दायित्व दे सकता था।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञाकारिता एवं अधीनता में वचन की सच्चाइयों को उससे समझें; किसी के भी द्वारा कही गई कोई भी बात को तुरंत ही पूर्ण सत्य के रूप में स्वीकार न करें, विशेषकर तब, जब वह बात बाइबल की अन्य बातों के साथ ठीक मेल नहीं रखती हो।

Building the Church – 4 – On Peter? – 4

 

Amongst the various provisions made available to every Born-Again Christian Believer, one is being made a member of the Lord’s Church and brought into the fellowship of God’s other children. As for every other of God’s provisions, for this also every Christian Believer must worthily function as God’s steward. Therefore, every believer needs to learn about God’s Church, and about fellowshipping with God’s children. While learning about this, we have seen from Matthew 16:18 that the Lord has said that not any man or organization, but it is He who builds His Church. From this verse a commonly seen misconception has also been popularized, that the Lord built His Church on Peter. We have seen through the context, the meanings, and the usage of the words in this verse that the Lord Jesus never said this; the Church being built on Peter is a misunderstanding, not a Biblical fact. In the last article we have started to consider other Biblical passages that affirm that the Church was never built, nor meant to be built on Peter. Today, we will continue with this, and look at some other Biblical passages that corroborate our stand.

As we had said in the last article, there are two important verses that refute the claim of those people who say that the Lord has built His Church on Peter. The first of these two verses we have seen in the last article. The second related verse, and that too is similarly ignored and overlooked by these people is, “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord” (Ephesians 2:20-21). Here it says that foundation are the “apostles and prophets” implying the teachings and Word received by them from God, i.e., the Word of God - which was eternally present, is a form of God, and which came to dwell on earth in bodily form as the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1, 2, 14). Also, take note that in verse 20 here, “apostles and prophets” has been stated in plural. This clearly shows that the foundation of the Church is not any single person, but the many apostles and prophets of God through whom the Word of God came to the people. Undoubtedly, Peter was one of those through whom God’s Word came to the people, but he was not the only one, nor only the teachings given by him were made the foundation. This once again negates the notion that Peter was the only foundation on which the Church was built. Another important thing mentioned in these verses is that along with the “apostles and prophets,” there is Jesus Christ Himself as the corner-stone, to maintain the correct direction and provide a reference point for the entire foundation as well as the super-structure - the building. Then verse 21 concludes that the whole building, the temple being joined together, grows “in the Lord”, and not in Peter!

Peter himself, in his letters, never affirms or even indicates that he has been appointed by the Lord to be foundation of the Church, or that the Church will be built on him. At the beginning of both his letters he only called himself an apostle, and in the second letter even called himself a servant of the Lord, but never stated or indicated that he is the foundation of the Church or that the Church will be built on him.

In Acts15, when the elders and apostles gathered together (Acts 15:6) to discuss and decide upon the wrong doctrines and false teachings that were being preached amongst the Believers, we see that it was not Peter who was leading or directing the discussions; his name and turn came much later, after a lot of arguments had been done (Acts 15:7), and he presented his opinion not with any special authority or superiority, but as another ordinary member of that council. It is written in verse 12 that after him, others too expressed their opinions; Peter’s opinions were not immediately accepted as the final word. Then eventually after James had summarized the whole discussion (Acts 15:13-21), the final decision was taken collectively by the apostles and elders (Acts 15:22). At no place do we see any special status or position being given to Peter, nor did he conduct the proceedings, or take the final decision, as would have been expected from the “foundation” or the “governing authority” of the Church; implying that Peter was not seen or accepted as the “foundation” or the “governing authority” of the Church in that council.

In other words, nowhere in the Word of God is there any support of any kind, whatsoever, about Peter being made the “foundation” of the Church, or of the Church ever being built on him by the Lord; nor did the elders and people of the first Church give any special place or position to Peter. In the next article we will see and analyze whether Peter was at all worthy of being considered of building the Church on him.

    If you are a Christian Believer, then you should learn to discern and understand the truths of God’s Word under the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Do not accept anything and everything as the truth unless and until you have cross-checked and verified it from the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit; more so when that thing does not seem to be consistent with the other related things of the Bible.
