कलीसिया से बहिष्कृत करना – 2
परमेश्वर ने मसीही विश्वासियों को जिस भी कलीसिया में रखा है, उन्हें उस कलीसिया में परमेश्वर के भण्डारी होने तथा उसकी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने की ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह करना है। परमेश्वर के भण्डारी होने के नाते, विश्वासियों को वहाँ पर इस तरह से निर्णय लेने और व्यवहार करना है कि उससे कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी तथा अन्य विश्वासियों की आत्मिक उन्नति हो। हमने देखा है कि कलीसिया में अनुशासन बनाए रखना महत्वपूर्ण है, और परमेश्वर के भण्डारी होने के नाते, इस अनुशासन को बनाए रखने के लिए विश्वासियों को कुछ कठिन या कठोर निर्णय लेने की आवश्यकता पड़ सकती है। पिछले लेख से हमने देखना और सीखना आरंभ किया है कि बाइबल सहभागिता से पृथक करने और कलीसिया से बहिष्कार करने के बारे में क्या कहती है। पिछले लेख में हमने पहाड़ी उपदेश में प्रभु के द्वारा मत्ती 5:23-24 में दिए गए निर्देशों से देखा था कि किसी अन्य विश्वासी के साथ व्यक्तिगत मतभेदों और समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए, जिसे गलत व्यवहार को झेलना पड़ा है, उसे ही प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करते हुए उसी के समान प्राथमिक प्रतिक्रिया देनी है। इसलिए, पहला प्रयास ठोकर देने वाले विश्वासी को क्षमा करना और उसके साथ मेल-मिलाप कर लेना होना चाहिए। जिसे दुःख पहुँचा है, प्रभु ने उसे ही पहल करने के लिए कहा है, बजाए दुःख पहुँचाने वाले के आकर क्षमा माँगने और मेल-मिलाप कर लेने के लिए आने की प्रतीक्षा करने के। आज हम परमेश्वर के वचन से एक और खण्ड को लेकर देखना आरंभ करेंगे कि विश्वासियों के मध्य सुलझाए न जा सकने वाले प्रतीत होने वाले व्यक्तिगत मतभेदों के निवारण के क्या चरण या कदम हैं।
प्रभु यीशु ने मत्ती 18:15-17 में विश्वासियों के मध्य तथा कलीसिया में मतभेदों के निवारण के लिए कुछ और निर्देश दिए हैं। इस खण्ड के इन तीनों पदों में हम परिस्थिति के निवारण के क्रमवार चरण या कदम देखते हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने मत्ती 5:23-24 से देखा था कि परिस्थिति के निवारण के लिए सबसे पहले उठाया जाने वाला कदम जिसके विरुद्ध गलत किया गया है, जिसे गलती का दुःख उठाना पड़ा है, उस की ओर से आना है। जिसके विरुद्ध गलत हुआ है उसे, उसके साथ मेल-मिलाप करने के उद्देश्य के साथ व्यवहार करना है, जिसने वह गलत किया है; और हमने देखा था कि यहाँ पर प्रभु ने यह नहीं कहा है कि विषय पर चर्चा करें और तय करें कि गलती किसकी थी और यह परिस्थिति क्यों उत्पन्न हुई। कलीसिया और सहभागिता को प्रभावित करने वाले, विश्वासियों के बीच के व्यक्तिगत मतभेदों के समाधान के लिए यह पहला कदम है। यह उसका व्यावहारिक अनुसरण है, जो परमेश्वर ने हमारे साथ मेल-मिलाप करने के लिये किया है। यद्यपि मनुष्य ने पाप किया, जिससे परमेश्वर आहत हुआ, परन्तु परमेश्वर अपनी महिमा और वैभव को त्याग कर पापी मनुष्य के पास संसार में उतर आया; तथा मनुष्य के उसके साथ सहभागिता में लौट आन के लिये जो कुछ भी करना था, वह सब करके दे दिया।
हम मत्ती 18:15 से देखते हैं कि प्रभु ने निर्देश दिए कि: “यदि तेरा भाई तेरा अपराध करे, तो जा और अकेले में बातचीत कर के उसे समझा; यदि वह तेरी सुने तो तू ने अपने भाई को पा लिया।” अर्थात, उत्पन्न परिस्थिति के साथ व्यवहार करने के तरीके में मत्ती 5:23-24 के तरीके से थोड़ा सा अन्तर आया है। अभी भी पहला कदम उसे ही उठाना है जिसके विरुद्ध गलत किया गया है; उसे ही समस्या को खड़ी करने वाले के पास जाकर बात सुलझाने का प्रयास करना है। अब भी, जैसा कि मत्ती 5:23-24 के साथ था, यह समाधान का प्रयास व्यक्तिगत रीति से ही किया जाना है, जिन दोनों के मध्य समस्या है उन्हें साथ मिलकर समस्या को सुलझाना है। परन्तु, अब, यहाँ पर, प्रभु दुःख उठाने वाले व्यक्ति को निर्देश दे रहा है कि वह जाए और “अकेले में बातचीत कर के उसे समझा।” अर्थात, पहले कदम के रूप में, यदि समस्या की अनदेखी करते हुए केवल क्षमा और मेल-मिलाप के भाव के साथ प्रयास करना विफल हो जाए, तो अब विश्वासी के पास प्रभु की ओर से यह अधिकार है कि एक बार फिर से प्रयास करे, किन्तु इस बार समस्या के कारणों को भी सामने ले आए और उनके बारे में चर्चा करे। किन्तु ऐसे में विश्वासियों को बहुत सावधान और धीरजवंत रहना है क्योंकि बहुधा, ऐसी परिस्थितियों में, शैतान यह पूरा प्रयास करता है कि यह चर्चा शीघ्र ही एक-दूसरे पर दोष लगाने, कटु-शब्द बोलने, और एक-दूसरे को नीचा दिखाने या अपमानित करने की स्थिति में परिवर्तित हो जाए; और तब बात बनने की बजाए और अधिक बिगड़ जाती है। किसी की भी ओर से बात के और अधिक बिगाड़े जाने की अनुमति प्रभु ने नहीं दी है। अभी भी यह कार्य प्रेम, और क्षमा तथा मेल-मिलाप की भावना के साथ ही किया जाना है, साथ में यह अवसर भी है कि दोनों की ओर से परिस्थिति को स्पष्ट किया जा सके, अपने-अपने दृष्टिकोण को एक-दूसरे को समझाया जा सके। तो, यह गलती करने वाले किसी विश्वासी को अनुशासित करने, व्यक्तिगत मतभेदों के कारण कलीसिया और सहभागिता पर बुरा प्रभाव पड़ने की समस्या का समाधान करने के लिए दूसरा चरण या दूसरा कदम है – चर्चा करो और व्यक्तिगत रीति से समाधान कर लो। इसे अभी भी व्यक्तिगत स्तर पर ही रखना है; अभी इसमें औरों को सम्मिलित करने या औरों को समस्या के द्वारा प्रभावित करने का समय नहीं आया है।
फिर मत्ती 18:16 में हम लिखा हुआ देखते हैं कि, “और यदि वह न सुने, तो और एक दो जन को अपने साथ ले जा, कि हर एक बात दो या तीन गवाहों के मुंह से ठहराई जाए।” यदि अभी भी समस्या का समाधान नहीं होता है, तो फिर प्रभु अगला कदम बताता है – गलती झेलने वाले विश्वासी को अपने साथ एक या दो और लोगों को लेना है, ताकि वे औरों के सामने “गवाह” भी ठहरें, और जैसा अगले पद से संकेत मिलता है, मध्यस्थ बनकर समस्या का समाधान निकालने का भी प्रयास करें, जिस से यह अभिप्राय मिलता है कि इन लोगों को कलीसिया या सहभागी लोगों में से ही होना चाहिए। एक बार फिर, अभी भी पहल गलती झेलने वाले को ही करनी है; उसे ही “गवाहों” को जुटाना है और उन्हें मध्यस्थ के समान भी उपयोग करना है। उसे ही मुलाकात करवानी है, उसे ही गलती करने वाले को समझाने का प्रयास करना है और समझा-बुझा कर समस्या का निवारण करवाने का प्रयास करना है। अब बस अन्तर केवल इतना है कि अब उसके पास “गवाह” हैं जो उसकी ओर से औरों के सामने यह कह सकते हैं कि उसने समस्या सुलझाने और एक-मनता को बहाल करने का भरसक प्रयत्न किया है, साथ ही कुछ अन्य लोग भी हैं जो ख सकते हैं कि उन्होंने भी प्रयास किया, किन्तु कुछ लाभ नहीं हुआ। इसे व्यक्तिगत समस्याओं, और उनके कारण कलीसिया तथा सहभागिता पर पड़ने वाले दुष्प्रभाव के निवारण के तीसरे कदम के समान देखा जा सकता है।
चौथा कदम, मत्ती 18:17 के पहले भाग से है, “यदि वह उन की भी न माने, तो कलीसिया से कह दे।” इस वाक्य का प्रथम भाग है “यदि वह उन की भी न माने” जो यह स्पष्ट दिखाता है कि पद 16 के उपरोक्त “गवाहों” को भी चर्चा में भाग लेकर, अपनी ओर से गलती करने वाले विश्वासी को समझाने का प्रयास करना है और उसे मनाकर समस्या का समाधान निकालने का प्रयास करना है। अब यहाँ पर चौथा कदम आता है, “तो कलीसिया से कह दे।” अब वह उपयुक्त समय और चरण है जब बात सार्वजनिक की जानी है। गलती झेलने वाले विश्वासी तथा उसके गवाहों को बात को “कलीसिया” को बताना है। ध्यान कीजिए, जिस समय प्रभु ने यह बात कही थी, उस समय “कलीसिया” स्थापित नहीं हुई थी। प्रभु और उसके शिष्य किसी पृथक स्थान या तरीके से आराधना के लिए एकत्रित नहीं होते थे; उस समय वे यहूदी आराधनालयों या मन्दिर में सब्त के दिन आराधना के लिए जाया करते थे। लेकिन फिर भी प्रभु ने “कलीसिया” शब्द का उपयोग किया – अर्थात, उसके समूह के लोग, जिन्हें उसने अपने शिष्य होने के लिए बुलाया था, और भविष्य के दीर्घ-कालीन दृष्टिकोण से वह कलीसिया जो स्थापित की जाएगी। यहाँ पर ध्यान देने के लिए एक अन्य महत्वपूर्ण बात भी है; प्रभु ने यह नहीं कहा है कि बात को “कुछ नियुक्त किए गए विशेष शिष्यों” को जाकर बताए, या, हमारे वर्तमान संदर्भ के दृष्टिकोण से कलीसिया की किसी समिति को, अथवा स्थानीय पास्टर और अगुवों को बताए। वरन बात को सम्पूर्ण कलीसिया के सम्मुख लाया जाना है, विश्वासियों के समस्त समूह के सामने, और विश्वासियों की सम्पूर्ण मण्डली को समस्या का समाधान करने का प्रयास करना है।
यदि गलती करने वाला विश्वासी अभी भी ढीठ बना रहता है और समस्या के समाधान के लिए सहमत नहीं होता है, तब ही, इस पद 17 के दूसरे भाग में, वह अंतिम कदम – पृथक किया जाना या बहिष्कार किया जाना आता है। इसे कुछ विस्तार से देखने और विश्लेषण करने की आवश्यकता है। अगले लेख में हम यहाँ से आगे बढ़ेंगे, और गलती करने वाले विश्वासी के, ढिठाई के साथ मतभेदों और विरोध को बनाए रखने के लिए कलीसिया या सहभागिता से पृथक किए जाने या बहिष्कार किए जाने को समझेंगे।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Excommunication From the Church – 2
In whichever Church God has placed the Christian Believers, the Believers are to strive to function as God's stewards in that Church and to maintain fellowship with His children there. Therefore, they must take decisions and act in a manner that will contribute to the growth of the Church and to the spiritual growth of the other Believers. We have seen that maintaining discipline and maintaining fellowship in the Church is important, and as God’s stewards, the Believers may have to take some difficult or harsh decisions to maintain this discipline. Since the last article we have started to learn what the Bible says about excluding or excommunicating an errant Believer from the Church and the fellowship. In the last article we have seen from the Lord Jesus’s instructions in the Sermon on the Mount, from Matthew 5:23-24, that in case of personal differences and problems with another Believer, the primary response of the one who has been wronged by another should be to emulate Lord Jesus Christ, and take the initiative for reconciliation. Therefore, the first step should be to forgive and be reconciled with the offending brother; i.e., the one who has been hurt has been asked by the Lord to take the first step to do so, instead of waiting for the one who did the wrong to come and ask for forgiveness and reconciliation. Today we will take up another passage from God’s Word to learn about the stages or steps to resolve seemingly irreconcilable personal differences between Believers.
The Lord Jesus in Matthew 18:15-17, has given another set of instructions for handling personal differences and discord amongst Believers and in the Church. In this passage, in each of the three verses, we see the successive steps to be taken to resolve the situation. In the last article, we had seen from Matthew 5:23-24 that the first response to resolve the situation is to come from the offended person, the one who has suffered being wronged. This wronged Believer has to act with the intention to be reconciled with the one who has caused the problems, and we had seen that for doing this there is no mention by the Lord of trying to discuss and settle the issue of who was at fault and why this situation has come about. This is the first step in resolving personal differences and problems between Believers affecting the Church and fellowship. This is a practical emulation of what God did to reconcile us with Him. Though He was the offended party, when man sinned, yet He took the initiative for reconciliation, emptied Himself of His glory and majesty, and came down to sinful man, and did all that was required to have man return into fellowship with Him.
From Matthew 18:15 we see that the Lord has instructed: “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.” So, the manner of handling the situation has changed somewhat now, from what was instructed in Matthew 5:23-24. The offended person is still responsible for taking the first step; it is he who has to go to the one who created the problem, to settle the issue. Again, as in Matthew 5:23-24, this is to be done on a personal basis, the two involved persons getting together to sort out the issue, mutually. But now, the Lord is giving the offended person the instruction to go to the offending person and “tell him his fault between you and him alone.” So now, once his initial attempt at reconciliation on the basis of ignoring the offense and going only by the principle of forgiveness and reconciliation has failed, the offended Believer now has the Lord’s authority to make another attempt, but this time by bringing up the cause of the problems, and discussing it mutually. But one needs to be very careful and patient here. Often, in such situations Satan sees to it that somehow this discussion soon degenerates into accusations, reviling, and trying to demean the other person; and the situation worsens instead of resolving. Such an aggravation from any side has not been permitted by the Lord. It still has to be done in love, with an intention to forgive and be reconciled, but with the additional advantage of using the opportunity to have the situation clarified to each other by both sides. So, this can be considered as the second step in disciplining an errant Believer, in handling a troublesome situation of personal differences adversely affecting the Church and fellowship – discuss and sort it out mutually. Keep it at a personal level, and this is not the time to involve others or influence them about the problem.
Then, in Matthew 18:16, we find written that “But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established',” if the problem remains unresolved, the Lord gives the next step – the offended Believer should take with him one or two more people, since they are to serve as “witnesses” for others, and as the next verse indicates, even try to serve as mediators to help resolve the situation, it is implied that these should be members of the Church and fellowship. In the presence of these “witnesses” and mediators, the offended Believer should once again try to discuss and resolve the situation. Once again, the initiative has to be from the one who is offended; he has to arrange for the “witnesses”, and get them to serve as mediators. He has to arrange for the meeting, he has to try and make the offender understand and try to have him agree to have the situation sorted out. The only difference being that now he has “witnesses” to vouch for him that he has taken the initiative and has tried his utmost to have the problem sorted out and harmony restored, as well as others who can say that even they have tried to have the problem settled but to no avail. This can be considered as the third step in this process of resolving the troublesome situation of personal differences affecting the unity of the fellowship and of the Church.
The fourth step, from the first part of Matthew 18:17 is, “And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church.” In the first part of this sentence, we have from the Lord “And if he refuses to hear them,” which clearly indicates that the aforementioned “witnesses” of verse 16 are meant to also participate in the discussions and try from their side to have the errant Believer come around to agreeing and have the situation resolved. Now comes the fourth step, “tell it to the church.” This is the stage, now is the time when the matter becomes public. The offended Believer, and his witnesses are to report the matter to the “Church.” Note that at the time the Lord made this statement, there was no “Church” as such. The Lord and His disciples were not gathering separately to worship, they still went to the Jewish synagogues and the Temple to worship on the sabbath day. But the Lord still uses this term, “Church” – i.e., at that moment, His group of people, the ones He had called out to be His disciples, and from the future long-term point of view, the Church that would be established. There is another important thing to be noted here; the Lord is not saying to report the matter to a “select group of the disciples,” or, in the current context, to some Church committee, or only to the Pastor and Elders of the Church. The matter has to be brought before the whole Church, to the entire group of Believers, the entire fellowship of that local Church; and now the whole Church, the whole assembly of Believers has to try and have the matter resolved.
It is now, if the errant Believer still remains stubborn and does not agree to have the matter resolved, that the final step of exclusion or excommunication comes in, in the second half of this verse 17. This needs to be considered and analyzed in some detail. In the next article we will take it up from here, and see further about an errant Believer being excluded or excommunicated from the Church on grounds of stubbornly maintaining differences and discord with some other Believer.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrender yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
