मसीही विश्वासी - प्रभु के समान प्रेम रखता है

सुसमाचारों में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य के गुणों में से यह सातवाँ गुण है कि मसीही विश्वासी, जैसा प्रभु यीशु ने औरों से रखा वैसे ही वह भी प्रेम रखता है। प्रभु यीशु ने क्रूस पर मारे जाने के लिए अपने पकड़वाए जाने से ठीक पहले, शिष्यों के साथ फसह का भोज खाते हुए, उन शिष्यों से कहा, मैं तुम्हें एक नई आज्ञा देता हूं, कि एक दूसरे से प्रेम रखो: जैसा मैं ने तुम से प्रेम रखा है, वैसा ही तुम भी एक दूसरे से प्रेम रखो। यदि आपस में प्रेम रखोगे तो इसी से सब जानेंगे, कि तुम मेरे चेले हो (यूहन्ना 13:34-35)। आगे चलकर प्रेरित यूहन्ना ने पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में अपनी पहली पत्री में लिखा, जो प्रेम नहीं रखता, वह परमेश्वर को नहीं जानता है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर प्रेम है (1 यूहन्ना 4:8); और जो प्रेम परमेश्वर हम से रखता है, उसको हम जान गए, और हमें उस की प्रतीति है; परमेश्वर प्रेम है: जो प्रेम में बना रहता है, वह परमेश्वर में बना रहता है; और परमेश्वर उस में बना रहता है (1 यूहन्ना 4:16)।

प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने न केवल अपने शिष्यों से वरन समस्त संसार के सभी लोगों से निःस्वार्थ, और अपने आप को बलिदान कर देने वाला प्रेम किया। प्रभु ने अपने इस प्रेम का उदाहरण यहूदा इस्करियोती को भी अपने साथ साढ़े तीन वर्ष रखने और उसे वही सब सामर्थ्य एवं अधिकार जो प्रभु ने अन्य शिष्यों को दिए थे देने के द्वारा, तथा क्रूस पर से उन्हें यातना देने वालों को भी क्षमा कर देने (लूका 23:34) के द्वारा दिखाया। प्रभु यीशु मसीह के लिए, पृथ्वी की उसकी संपूर्ण सेवकाई के लिए गवाही दी गई कि परमेश्वर ने किस रीति से यीशु नासरी को पवित्र आत्मा और सामर्थ्य से अभिषेक किया: वह भलाई करता, और सब को जो शैतान के सताए हुए थे, अच्छा करता फिरा; क्योंकि परमेश्वर उसके साथ था (प्रेरितों 10:38)।

आज हमारे लिए भी परमेश्वर पिता ने यही निःस्वार्थ प्रेम दिखाया है, प्रेम इस में नहीं कि हम ने परमेश्वर ने प्रेम किया; पर इस में है, कि उसने हम से प्रेम किया; और हमारे पापों के प्रायश्चित्त के लिये अपने पुत्र को भेजा”(1 यूहन्ना 4:10)। और प्रभु यीशु ने भी यही निःस्वार्थ, बलिदान वाला प्रेम दिखाया है परन्तु परमेश्वर हम पर अपने प्रेम की भलाई इस रीति से प्रगट करता है, कि जब हम पापी ही थे तभी मसीह हमारे लिये मरा (रोमियों 5:8)। प्रभु चाहता है कि उसके शिष्य भी आपस में तथा संसार के लोगों से ऐसा ही प्रेम रखें; यही संसार के सामने उसके शिष्य होने की पहचान होगी:

* यदि आपस में प्रेम रखोगे तो इसी से सब जानेंगे, कि तुम मेरे चेले हो (यूहन्ना 13:35)।

* सो मैं जो प्रभु में बन्‍धुआ हूं तुम से बिनती करता हूं, कि जिस बुलाहट से तुम बुलाए गए थे, उसके योग्य चाल चलो। अर्थात सारी दीनता और नम्रता सहित, और धीरज धरकर प्रेम से एक दूसरे की सह लो (इफिसियों 4:1-2)।

* और यदि किसी को किसी पर दोष देने को कोई कारण हो, तो एक दूसरे की सह लो, और एक दूसरे के अपराध क्षमा करो: जैसे प्रभु ने तुम्हारे अपराध क्षमा किए, वैसे ही तुम भी करो (कुलुस्सियों 3:13)। 

यह कर पाना तब तक संभव नहीं है जब तक शिष्य छठे गुण की बात, अपने आप का इनकार करना, और पहले गुण की बात, पूर्ण समर्पण और आज्ञाकारिता के साथ प्रभु यीशु के लिए कार्यकारी एवं उपयोगी होने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध न हो। जब तक किसी में भी किसी भी बात के लिए जरा भी ‘अहं’ है, तब तक व निःस्वार्थ और बलिदान वाला प्रेम नहीं कर सकता है।

किसी भी मनुष्य के लिए, अपनी ही सामर्थ्य और योग्यता से, अथवा इच्छा के द्वारा, प्रभु द्वारा कहे गए सातों गुणों में से एक का भी निर्वाह कर पाना संभव नहीं है। किन्तु हम मसीही विश्वासियों के अंदर निवास करने वाला परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा हमें सामर्थ्य देता है, हमारा मार्गदर्शन करता है, कि हम अंश-अंश करके अपने प्रभु यीशु की समानता में बदलते चले जाएं (2 कुरिन्थियों 3:18), उसके समान सोचने, रहने, और व्यवहार करने वाले बनते चले जाएं। संसार के दृष्टिकोण से ये सभी गुण दुर्बलता और असफलता के चिह्न हो सकते हैं, किन्तु प्रभु ने इन्हीं गुणों को पहले जी कर दिखाया, तब ही शिष्यों से करने के लिए कहा; और हम जानते हैं कि इस कारण परमेश्वर ने उसको अति महान भी किया, और उसको वह नाम दिया जो सब नामों में श्रेष्ठ है (फिलिप्पियों 2:9)। आज इन्हीं गुणों के कारण प्रभु यीशु का नाम वह सर्वश्रेष्ठ तथा सर्वोच्च नाम है कि जो स्वर्ग में और पृथ्वी पर और जो पृथ्वी के नीचे है; वे सब यीशु के नाम पर घुटना टेकें। और परमेश्वर पिता की महिमा के लिये हर एक जीभ अंगीकार कर ले कि यीशु मसीह ही प्रभु है (फिलिप्पियों 2:10-11)।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Christian Believer – Loves as Lord Did

The seventh characteristic of a disciple of the Lord Jesus, given in the Gospels is that the Christian Believer, loves others as the Lord Jesus did. The Lord Jesus just before being caught for being crucified, while eating the Passover feast with His disciples, said to them, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35). Later, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle John wrote in his first letter, He who does not love does not know God, for God is love (1 John 4:8); and, And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16).

The Lord Jesus Christ not only loved His disciples, but all of mankind, with a selfless love, and sacrificed Himself for the salvation of all the people of the whole world. During His time on earth, the Lord Jesus practically demonstrated His love by keeping with Him Judas Iscariot, and giving him the same power and privileges as the other disciples, never exposing or ridiculing him. The Lord also showed this love when He was being crucified, by forgiving those who were tormenting Him at that time (Luke 23:34). It was later written for the Lord Jesus, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

God the Father has shown this same selfless love towards us also, In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10). The Lord too has shown this selfless, sacrificial love towards us But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). The Lord wants that His disciples should have the same love towards each other, and towards the people of the world; by this will the people of the world recognize them as disciples of the Lord:

* John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

* Ephesians 4:1-2 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love.

* Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

Doing this is not possible unless a person first fulfills what is stated in the first and the sixth Characteristics of a disciple of Christ, i.e., be fully surrendered and obedient to the Lord and committed to being working and useful for the Lord, and is willing and ready for self-denial for his service towards the Lord. As long as there is even a little bit of ego in a person, he cannot love selflessly with a sacrificial love as the Lord did.

No man is capable of living out even one of these seven characteristics of a disciple of the Lord Jesus, by his own ability and strength. But the Holy Spirit of God residing in the Christian Believers gives us the strength, and provides the guidance, so that we are transformed bit by bit into the likeness of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18), and we start to think, live, and behave as He did. The world might look upon these seven characteristics as signs of weakness and failure; but the Lord first lived out and demonstrated these characteristics, and only then did He ask His disciples to do likewise. We also know that because the Lord lived them out, Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name (Philippians 2:9). It is for this reason that the name of Lord Jesus is the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10-11).

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

मसीही विश्वासी - क्रूस उठाकर चलने के लिए तैयार रहता है

सुसमाचारों में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य के गुणों में से यह छठा गुण है कि मसीही विश्वासी, प्रभु यीशु के कहे के अनुसार, अपना इनकार करते हुए प्रतिदिन अपना क्रूस उठाकर चलने को तैयार रहता है। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा है:

* लूका 9:23 उसने सब से कहा, यदि कोई मेरे पीछे आना चाहे, तो अपने आप से इनकार करे और प्रति दिन अपना क्रूस उठाए हुए मेरे पीछे हो ले।

* लूका 14:27 और जो कोई अपना क्रूस न उठाए; और मेरे पीछे न आए; वह भी मेरा चेला नहीं हो सकता।

आज “क्रूस उठाकर चलना” एक मुहावरा बन कर रह गया है, और इससे उसका महत्व बहुत कम हो गया है। लोग किसी भी व्यक्तिगत कठिनाई, संकट, परेशानी, को अपना क्रूस बताने लगे हैं, और कठिनाइयों को झेलने को क्रूस उठाना कहने लगे हैं। किन्तु प्रभु ने जो बात अपने शिष्यों से कही थी, उसका वास्तविक और सही तात्पर्य इस वर्तमान प्रचलित अर्थ से बिल्कुल भिन्न है। वाक्यांश “क्रूस उठाकर चलना” के वास्तविक अर्थ को समझने के लिए हमें उस समय के उपयोग के अनुसार, इसके ऐतिहासिक अभिप्राय एवं प्रयोग को देखना होगा। प्रभु यीशु मसीह की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के दिनों में क्रूस समाज के सबसे निकृष्ट और जघन्य अपराधियों को एक बहुत क्रूर और पीड़ादायक मृत्यु देने का तरीका था, जिसमें अपराधी बहुत धीरे-धीरे किन्तु अत्यधिक पीड़ा के साथ क्रूस पर टंगे-टंगे मरता था, कई बार उसे मरने में एक दिन से भी अधिक का समय लग जाता। क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले उस अपराधी को कोड़े मारने, पीटने, आदि के द्वारा सैनिक यातनाएं देते थे, फिर उस घायल अवस्था में, कोड़ों से उधेड़ दी गई उसकी पीठ पर, उसी से उसका काठ का बना भारी क्रूस उठवाकर उसे मारे जाने के सार्वजनिक स्थान पर ले जाते थे, जहाँ पर फिर उसे नंगा कर के उसके हाथों और पैरों को काठ पर ठोक कर, उसे धीरे-धीरे मरने के लिए छोड़ दिया जाता था, और मरने के समय तक उसका उपहास, और उसे यातना देना चलता रहता था; मरने के बाद ही उसे क्रूस पर से उतारा जाता था। 

इसलिए उस समय के समाज में जब लोग किसी को क्रूस उठाए जाते हुए देखते थे, तो उनके लिए उसमें कुछ बातें निहित और स्पष्ट होती थीं। देखने वाले जानते और समझते थे कि:

* वह व्यक्ति कोई बहुत जघन्य अपराधी है 

* उसने कुछ बहुत घृणित और निंदनीय कार्य किए हैं 

* इस कारण वह निन्दा, उपहास, और मृत्यु दण्ड के योग्य है 

* जहाँ वह व्यक्ति जा रहा है, वहाँ से अब वह जीवित वापस नहीं आएगा, केवल उसकी लाश ही लाई जाएगी। 

प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर इनमें में से कोई भी बात लागू नहीं होती थी, फिर भी प्रभु ने अपनी ईश्वरीय महिमा, अपने स्वर्गीय वैभव, अपने परमेश्वरत्व के स्तर एवं सम्मान को छोड़ कर, यह सब, मेरे, आपके, और समस्त संसार के सभी लोगों के उद्धार का मार्ग बनाने के लिए, स्वेच्छा से, परमेश्वर पिता की आज्ञाकारिता में (इब्रानियों 10:5-7; यूहन्ना 4:34; 6:38), सहना स्वीकार कर लिया, और सह लिया। साथ ही इस बात को भी ध्यान में रखना चाहिए, कि जिस समय प्रभु ने यह बात, यह वाक्यांश अपने शिष्यों से कहा था, उस समय तक उन्हें क्रूस पर नहीं चढ़ाया गया था; क्रूस पर होने वाली उनकी मृत्यु अभी भी एक भावी घटना थी। इसलिए वे शिष्य उस समय प्रभु की कही बात को अपने आस-पास की होने वाली बातों, औरों के साथ होने वाली घटनाओं, आदि के सन्दर्भ में ही समझ सकते थे।  

उपरोक्त तथ्यों के आधार पर हम निष्कर्ष निकाल सकते हैं कि जब प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा कि उनके पीछे आने के लिए वे प्रतिदिन अपना क्रूस उठाकर उनके पीछे चलने के लिए तैयार रहें, तो उनका क्या अर्थ रहा होगा। प्रकट है कि प्रभु का अर्थ किसी व्यक्ति के द्वारा अपनी किसी व्यक्तिगत समस्या के लिए कठिनाई अथवा परेशानी का सामना करना नहीं था। सभी बातों को ध्यान में रखते हुए, कुल मिलाकर स्वाभाविक अर्थ यही निकलता है कि जो भी प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य बनना चाहे, उनका अनुसरण करना चाहे, जैसे परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में प्रभु ने संसार और समाज से अनुचित और अकारण उपहास, निन्दा, अत्यधिक यातनाएं, और क्रूर मृत्यु भी सही, उसी प्रकार वह शिष्य भी, मत्ती 10:16-20 तथा रोमियों 8:17-18 के अनुसार, प्रभु के अनुसरण, परमेश्वर के वचन की आज्ञाकारिता, और सुसमाचार प्रचार  के लिए, प्रतिदिन:

* अकारण अपमानित होने और निन्दा सहने के लिए तैयार रहे

* लोगों के हाथों मारे-पीटे, यातनाएं दिए जाने, और दुख उठाने के लिए तैयार रहे 

* अपने प्राणों तक को बलिदान करने के लिए तैयार रहे (यूहन्ना 16:1-2)

अर्थात, जब प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य, प्रभु की सेवकाई के लिए, प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में, घर से बाहर निकले तो किसी भी दुर्दशा, अथवा मृतक अवस्था में वापस लौटने के विचार के साथ निकले; और यह उसके लिए एक-दो दिन, अथवा यदा-कदा की नहीं, वरन प्रतिदिन की बात हो। साथ ही उसके अन्दर अपने लिए कोई महत्वाकांक्षा, किसी आदर-सम्मान को पाने, लोगों में कुछ स्तर रखने, अपने आप को किसी योग्य अथवा कुछ समझने की भावना न हो। उसके जीवन का एकमात्र उद्देश्य हर बात और हर परिस्थिति में, उन सभी के द्वारा, केवल परमेश्वर को आदर और महिमा देना होना चाहिए।

यदि आप प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य हैं, तो प्रभु यीशु की शिष्यता की इस कसौटी पर आज अपने आप को कहाँ खड़ा हुआ पाते हैं? क्या आप वास्तव में प्रभु यीशु के पीछे चलने में उसके लिए, उसके वास्तविक अर्थ में, अपना क्रूस उठाने के लिए तैयार हैं; या यह आपके लिए केवल एक वाक्यांश है, जिसका वास्तविक निर्वाह आपको संभव नहीं लगता है? क्या अपने आप को प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य कहना आप के लिए एक औपचारिकता निभाना है, या आप सच्चे मन से उसके समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी शिष्य हैं?

The sixth characteristic of a disciple of the Lord Jesus, given in the Gospels is that the Christian Believer, as stated by the Lord Jesus, is always ready, for the Lord, for self-denial, and be willing to take up his cross daily. The Lord Jesus said to His disciples:

* Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

* Luke 14:27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Today “carrying the cross” has become a phrase, and people often do not understand its meaning or importance. Usually, now-a-days, if anyone faces any problem, adversity, difficulty, etc., they start calling it their “cross”, and having to pass through any difficult circumstances is called “carrying the cross.” But the actual and true meaning of what the Lord said to His disciples is entirely different from any of this current and popular interpretation of this phrase. To understand the real meaning of this phrase, “carrying or bearing the cross”, we will have to step back in time, and see what it was actually used for in the days of the earthly ministry of the Lord. At the time the Lord Jesus Christ ministered on earth in a physical form, death by crucifixion was meant to be the most gruesome and painful death, and this penalty was given to the most heinous and depraved criminals. The criminal, condemned to death by crucifixion, died a very slow and very agonizing death, while hanging on the cross; and at times it would take him more than one day to die, all this while he hung on the cross, and suffered extremely. Before being crucified, the soldiers would first scourge him severely, and torture him in different ways; then in that wounded condition, the criminal would be made to lift his heavy wooden cross on his back made raw by the scourging, and carry it to the place where he was to be crucified, where he was then stripped naked, his hands and feet were nailed to the cross, and he was left hanging there to gradually die in torment. Till he died, the condemned criminal was subjected to continual ridicule and verbal abuse; and was taken off the cross only after he had died.

Therefore, at that time, when the people of the community saw someone going, carrying a cross, then they knew and understood certain things about that person; that:

* He is a heinous and depraved criminal

* He has committed some very serious and deplorable crimes

* For those crimes he is worthy of ridicule, abuse, and the death penalty

* Where that person is headed, carrying the cross, from there he will never return; only his dead body might be brought back

None of the above was true or applicable for the Lord Jesus, but still, the Lord Jesus had left His heavenly glory, majesty, divinity, and honor, and come down to earth, knowing that He will have to suffer all of this. He willingly allowed Himself to be treated in this deplorable manner, for you, me, and for all the people of the world, the entire mankind, in obedience to God the Father (Hebrews 10:5-7; John 4:34; 6:38), so that He could prepare and provide the way of salvation and reconciliation with God for the entire mankind. Also, please bear in mind that when the Lord Jesus had said this phrase to His disciples, He had not yet been crucified; His crucifixion was till a future event. So, the disciples could have only understood the Lord’s statement in context of what they saw happening to others.

On the basis of these facts about crucifixion we can infer what He would have meant when the Lord asked His disciples to be willing to daily bear or carry their cross, in their being willing to follow Him. It is evident that the Lord was not talking about anyone’s individual problems or difficulties here. Keeping all things in mind, the overall natural conclusion of what the Lord meant to say is that His follower must be ready and prepared to be obedient to God, and for that obedience be willing to suffer ridicule, abuse, humiliation, persecution to any extent possible, and even a cruel death - just as the Lord Jesus was obedient to God and suffered it all. As it says in Matthew 10:16-20 and Romans 8:17-18, a Christian Believer, a true disciple of the Lord should daily be willing to:

* Be insulted, humiliated, and dishonored without any reason or cause

* Be ready to be beaten up, persecuted, and made to suffer by the people of the world, even though he has done no wrong

* Be prepared to even be killed for being a follower of Christ Jesus (John 16:2).

In other words, when a committed and obedient disciple of the Lord Jesus, steps out of his house in obedience to the Lord, then he should do so expecting any of the above to happen to him at any time, and also that he may not even come back home alive; and this will not be for a day or two, or something that would happen occasionally, but he should expect it to be a daily happening! Moreover, as a disciple of the Lord, he should not harbor any desires or expectations of recognition, honor, status etc. from the people, nor should he think of having any abilities, or have any ambitions and aspirations of being acknowledged and exalted in any way. The aim of his life should always be to glorify God in and through everything.

If you are a disciple of the Lord, then on the basis of this sixth characteristic, by self-evaluation, where do you see yourself to be? Are you really willing and ready to “bear or carry your cross” daily for the sake of the Lord; or is this merely a phrase for you, which you find difficult to live up to, in actual practice? Is being a disciple of the Lord Jesus only the fulfilling of some religious formalities for you; or are you actually a truly committed and obedient disciple of the Lord Jesus?

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

सुसमाचारों में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य के गुणों में से यह पाँचवाँ गुण, पहले कहे गए दूसरे गुण के समान, शिष्य, अर्थात मसीही विश्वासी में एक अलगाव की माँग करता है। प्रभु यीशु ने कहा, इसी रीति से तुम में से जो कोई अपना सब कुछ त्याग न दे, तो वह मेरा चेला नहीं हो सकता (लूका 14:33)। मसीही विश्वासी का दूसरा गुण पारिवारिक संबंधों में अलगाव की माँग करता है, और यह पाँचवाँ गुण, प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में शिष्य द्वारा भौतिक, या सांसारिक और नश्वर वस्तुओं से अलगाव से की माँग करता है। इसी गुण के एक दूसरा स्वरूप पर नए नियम में काफी ज़ोर दिया गया है, पत्रियों में उसे बहुधा दोहराया गया है - अपने आप को संसार में परदेशी और यात्री जानकर संसार की बातों के मोह में पड़ने से बचे रहना (इब्रानियों 11:13; 1 पतरस 2:11)। यूहन्ना और याकूब ने तो पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में यहाँ तक लिखा है कि भौतिक या सांसारिक बातों से प्रेम रखना, स्वतः और अनिवार्यतः व्यक्ति में परमेश्वर के प्रति प्रेम न होने का सूचक है, उसको परमेश्वर का बैरी बना देता है; उनके द्वारा लिखे पदों को देखें:

* “तुम न तो संसार से और न संसार में की वस्‍तुओं से प्रेम रखो: यदि कोई संसार से प्रेम रखता है, तो उस में पिता का प्रेम नहीं है। क्योंकि जो कुछ संसार में है, अर्थात शरीर की अभिलाषा, और आंखों की अभिलाषा और जीविका का घमण्‍ड, वह पिता की ओर से नहीं, परन्तु संसार ही की ओर से है। और संसार और उस की अभिलाषाएं दोनों मिटते जाते हैं, पर जो परमेश्वर की इच्छा पर चलता है, वह सर्वदा बना रहेगा” (1 यूहन्ना 2:15-17)।

* “हे व्यभिचारिणयों, क्या तुम नहीं जानतीं, कि संसार से मित्रता करनी परमेश्वर से बैर करना है सो जो कोई संसार का मित्र होना चाहता है, वह अपने आप को परमेश्वर का बैरी बनाता है” (याकूब 4:4)।

जब प्रभु ने अपने आरंभिक शिष्यों को बुलाया, तो वे तुरन्त अपने व्यवसाय, अपने परिवार आदि को छोड़ कर प्रभु के पीछे हो लिए: वे तुरन्त नाव और अपने पिता को छोड़कर उसके पीछे हो लिए” (मत्ती 4:22); “और व नावों को किनारे पर ले आए और सब कुछ छोड़कर उसके पीछे हो लिए (लूका 5:11); वहां से आगे बढ़कर यीशु ने मत्ती नाम एक मनुष्य को महसूल की चौकी पर बैठे देखा, और उस से कहा, मेरे पीछे हो ले। वह उठ कर उसके पीछे हो लिया (मत्ती 9:9)। जब एक व्यक्ति ने प्रभु से उसका शिष्य बनने की इच्छा व्यक्त की, जब वे मार्ग में चले जाते थे, तो किसी न उस से कहा, जहां जहां तू जाएगा, मैं तेरे पीछे हो लूंगा। यीशु ने उस से कहा, लोमड़िय़ों के भट और आकाश के पक्षियों के बसेरे होते हैं, पर मनुष्य के पुत्र को सिर धरने की भी जगह नहीं (लूका 9:57-58) - अर्थात प्रभु के पीछे चलने के लिए इस अनिश्चितता को स्वीकार करके चलना होगा कि यह आवश्यक नहीं है कि इस सेवकाई में रहने के लिए स्थान और खाने के लिए भोजन मिलेगा। जब, जो, जैसा मिल जाए, उसे ही स्वीकार करके प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए कार्य में लगे ही रहना है। पौलुस ने तिमुथियुस को लिखा, पर तू सब बातों में सावधान रह, दुख उठा, सुसमाचार प्रचार का काम कर और अपनी सेवा को पूरा कर (2 तीमुथियुस 4:5)। लेकिन जो यह सब जानते हुए, इन बातों को स्वीकार करते हुए, प्रभु के पीछे चल निकले थे, अपने उन ड़िशिष्यों को प्रभु यीशु ने प्रतिज्ञा दी, यीशु ने कहा, मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, कि ऐसा कोई नहीं, जिसने मेरे और सुसमाचार के लिये घर या भाइयों या बहिनों या माता या पिता या लड़के-बालों या खेतों को छोड़ दिया हो। और अब इस समय सौ गुणा न पाए, घरों और भाइयों और बहिनों और माताओं और लड़के-बालों और खेतों को पर उपद्रव के साथ और परलोक में अनन्त जीवन (मरकुस 10:29-30)।

प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए बीज बोने वाले के दृष्टांत को स्मरण करें (मत्ती 13:3-9)। यहाँ पर तीसरी प्रकार की भूमि, झाड़ियों के स्थान, पर गिरने और उगने वाला बीज वह है जो उगा और बढ़ा, किन्तु संसार की बातों और धन के धोखे ने उसे दबा कर निष्फल कर दिया जो झाड़ियों में बोया गया, यह वह है, जो वचन को सुनता है, पर इस संसार की चिन्‍ता और धन का धोखा वचन को दबाता है, और वह फल नहीं लाता (मत्ती 13:22)। जो धनी जवान व्यक्ति (मत्ती 19:16-24) प्रभु के पास अनन्त जीवन का मार्ग प्राप्त करने के लिए आया था, वह निराश और असफल इसलिए लौट गया, क्योंकि वह अपने धन और सांसारिक वस्तुओं से अपने आप को अलग नहीं करने पाया था; वह प्रभु की शिष्यता की यह कीमत नहीं चुकाना चाहता था, और जीवन के जल के सोते के पास आकर भी प्यासा और बिना अनन्त जीवन पाए चला गया।

यदि आप प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य हैं, तो क्या आपने अपने आप को भौतिक, नश्वर सांसारिक बातों के मोह से पृथक किया है? इसका यह अभिप्राय नहीं है कि प्रभु के शिष्य को सन्यासी बनकर विरक्ति का जीवन जीना चाहिए। अभिप्राय यह है कि प्रभु का शिष्य अपने जीवन में प्राथमिक स्थान प्रभु और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता को देता है, न कि सांसारिक उपलब्धियों और महत्वाकांक्षाओं की पूर्ति में लगे रहने को। प्रभु यीशु की शिष्यता के पाँचवें गुण की इस कसौटी पर आज अपने आप को कहाँ खड़ा हुआ पाते हैं? क्या अपने आप को प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य कहना आप के लिए एक औपचारिकता निभाना है, या आप सच्चे मन से उसके समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी शिष्य हैं?

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Christian Believer – Forsakes All for The Lord

The fifth characteristic of a disciple of the Lord Jesus, given in the Gospels is similar to the second characteristic that we have seen earlier, and demands a separation of the Christian Believer. This fifth characteristic demands that the Believer be willing and ready to forsake all for the Lord; the Lord Jesus has said to His disciples, So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple (Luke 14:33). The second characteristic asks for a separation in familial relationships, this fifth characteristic demands a separation from the temporal and worldly, i.e., the perishable things. A lot of emphasis has been placed in the New Testament on a different form of this characteristic, which has often been repeated in the letters - a Christian Believer is to consider himself as a pilgrim and sojourner in this world and avoid getting entangled in the attachment to worldly things (Hebrews 11:13; 1 Peter 2:11). In this context, John and James have gone to the extent of writing that loving the things of this world, by itself is a sure indicator of not loving the Lord God; and this love for the worldly things makes one an enemy of God. Consider what they have written:

* “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17).

* “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4).

When the Lord called His initial disciples, they immediately left their work, business, families to follow the Lord: and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him (Matthew 4:22); As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So, he arose and followed Him (Matthew 9:9). Consider the response of the Lord when a person expressed the desire to Him to be His follower, Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, "Lord, I will follow You wherever You go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." (Luke 9:57-58) - in other words, to decide to be a follower of the Lord is to accept the uncertainty that in this ministry there will always be a doubt for availability of a place to stay and food to eat; the follower of Christ should be willing and ready to accept whatever he may get and whenever he may get it, but continue in the ministry nevertheless. Paul wrote to Timothy, But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry (2 Timothy 4:5). To those disciples, who knowing all these things, still decide to accept becoming a follower of the Lord, the Lord also promised that, “So Jesus answered and said, Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time--houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions--and in the age to come, eternal life (Mark 10:29-30).

Recall the parable given by the Lord Jesus about the Sower of the Seed (Matthew 13:3-9). In this parable, the seed falling in the third kind of soil, the soil with the thorns, is the seed that fell and germinated and started to grow; but the things of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth suppressed it and rendered it fruitless, Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful (Matthew 13:22). The Rich Young Ruler who came to the Lord, seeking the way to eternal life (Matthew 19:16-24), returned disappointed and unsuccessful, since he was unable to separate himself from his wealth and the things of the world; he did not want to pay the price of becoming a follower of Christ Jesus, therefore, having come to the source of the water of life he returned back dejected and as thirsty as he had come, without having received eternal life.

If you are a disciple of the Lord, then have you separated yourself from the temporal and perishing world and its things? This does not mean that the disciple of the Lord Jesus has to totally detach himself from the world and live the life of a hermit or an ascetic. The implication is that the disciple has to give the primary place to the Lord Jesus and to the obedience of His Word; instead of pursuing worldly achievements and desires. Where do you find yourself on the basis of an evaluation based on this fifth characteristic in your life? Is calling yourself a disciple of the Lord merely fulfilling formalities, following of rituals and traditions, and celebrating feasts and festivals for you, or are you actually a committed and obedient disciple of the Lord?

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings.
