परमेश्वर के वचन से उचित व्यवहार – 5

 

    परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ उचित व्यवहार करना सीखने के लिए, पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम पौलुस के जीवन और सेवकाई से, उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति व्यवहार से सीखते आ रहे हैं। इस में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 के साथ आरम्भ किया था, और देखा था कि पौलुस वहाँ पर अपनी सेवकाई के बारे में तीन बातें कहता है, और इन बातों का तब उसके द्वारा, और आज हमारे द्वारा भी, परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति व्यवहार पर प्रभाव आता है। ये तीन बातें हैं: पहली, उसे बपतिस्मा देने के लिए नहीं भेजा गया था; दूसरी, उसे सुसमाचार प्रचार करने के लिए भेजा गया था; और तीसरी उसका प्रचार “शब्दों के ज्ञान के अनुसार नहीं” था, और यह करने का कारण भी वह बताता है, “ऐसा न हो कि मसीह का क्रूस व्यर्थ ठहरे।” पिछले दो लेखों में हमने पहली दो बातों में परमेश्वर के वचन से व्यवहार और निहितार्थों को देखा है। आज हम इस पद में पौलुस के तीसरे कथन के बारे में देखेंगे।

    पौलुस ने परमेश्वर के वचन से व्यवहार के सम्बन्ध में जो तीसरी बात कही, वह है, कि पौलुस परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार “शब्दों के ज्ञान के अनुसार नहीं” करता था, और यह करने का कारण था कि कहीं “ऐसा न हो कि मसीह का क्रूस व्यर्थ ठहरे।” हम यहाँ पर जिस तात्पर्य को देखते हैं, वह है कि सुसमाचार सन्देश का केन्द्र-बिन्दु, “मसीह का क्रूस” है, और क्रूस के सन्देश के उसमें होने के कारण ही सुसमाचार सन्देश प्रभावी होता है (इस पर और अधिक के लिए पद 18 तथा अध्याय 2 को भी देखिए)। साथ ही सुसमाचार प्रचारक को न तो मानवीय समझ-बूझ और तर्क का सहारा लेना चाहिए, और न ही सुसमाचार को ‘समझाने के लिए’ या उसे लोगों के स्वीकार करने के लिए बहुत ‘आकर्षक और तर्क पूर्ण’ बनाने के लिए, उसे शब्दाडम्बरपूर्ण, तथा वाक्पटुता वाला होना चाहिए। हम जब भी सुसमाचार को, अर्थात, समस्त मानवजाति के पापों के प्रायश्चित तथा उन्हें पापों से छुड़ाने के लिए अपना बलिदान देने के सन्देश को प्रस्तुत करें, तो वह सीधे और साधारण शब्दों में हो। परमेश्वर का आत्मा उस सीधे और साधारण शब्दों के सन्देश को लेकर लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करेगा और उन्हें मसीह यीशु में विश्वास करने तक लेकर आएगा।

    इसके विपरीत, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस बहुत स्पष्ट यह बात कहता है कि सुसमाचार को मानवीय बुद्धि के द्वारा और अधिक प्रभावी करने, उसे और भी आकर्षक और तर्कपूर्ण बनाने के प्रयास, उसे अप्रभावी बना देते हैं। यह नए नियम के द्वारा पुराने नियम की एक बात – निर्गमन 20:24-25 की, जिसे हम पहले देख चुके हैं, की पुष्टि है –अपने भेंट और बलिदान परमेश्वर को चढ़ाने के लिए जो वेदी बनाई जाए, वह केवल उसी सामग्री से बनी हो जो परमेश्वर ने दी है और उसे उसके प्राकृतिक रूप में ही उपयोग किया जाए। परमेश्वर द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाई गई सामग्री को मनुष्यों द्वारा और अधिक सुन्दर और आकर्षक बनाने के प्रयास, केवल उसे अशुद्ध ही करेंगे, और परमेश्वर को कुछ भी अर्पित करने के अयोग्य बना देंगे। जैसे, उस समय के इस्राएलियों के लिए मिट्टी और पत्थर ही वह सामग्री थे जिनके द्वारा उन्हें वेदी बनानी थी, उसी प्रकार से आज मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए, परमेश्वर का वचन ही वह आधार है जिसके द्वारा वे परमेश्वर के पास आ सकते हैं और परमेश्वर को अपनी भेंट – सुसमाचार बाँटने की हमारी सेवकाई का कार्य और उद्धार पाई हुई आत्माओं की भेंटें भी, अर्पित कर सकते हैं। जैसे तब उन प्राकृतिक वस्तुओं में किसी प्रकार की कोई फेर-बदल नहीं की जानी थी, उसी प्रकार से, आज परमेश्वर के वचन में भी कोई फेर-बदल नहीं होनी है। पौलुस इस बात को स्पष्ट कर देता है कि सुसमाचार में मानवीय बुद्धि जोड़ने से वह अप्रभावी हो जाता है। हो सकता है कि वह सन्देश सुनने में बहुत आकर्षक और प्रभावी लगे, हो सकता है कि लोगों के द्वारा उस की बहुत प्रशंसा और सराहना भी हो, लेकिन उस से वह कभी नहीं होगा जो सुसमाचार करता है – आत्माओं को बचाना।

    उद्धार त्रिएक परमेश्वर का कार्य है – परमेश्वर पुत्र ने अपने आप को समस्त मानव-जाति के सभी पापों के लिए बलिदान कर दिया; परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा इसे लेकर लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करता है और उन्हें पश्चाताप करने तक लेकर आता है; परमेश्वर पिता उस कायल हुए और क्षमा-प्रार्थी पापी के पश्चाताप को स्वीकार करता है और प्रभु यीशु के छुटकारा देने वाले क्रूस के कार्य पर उसके विश्वास के आधार पर उसे पापों की क्षमा प्रदान करता है, और उसे अपनी पापों से छुड़ाई हुई तथा मेल-मिलाप हुई संतान (यूहन्ना 1:12-13) बनाकर अपने राज्य में स्वीकार कर लेता है। अब, इस में कहाँ पर और किस प्रकार से कोई भी मानवीय बुद्धि, समझ-बूझ, या तर्क बीच में आ सकते हैं, कि इस आधारभूत तथ्य को और बेहतर बनाएँ? किसी भी मानवीय बुद्धि, समझ-बूझ, या तर्क की किसी बात का यहाँ पर बीच में आना केवल त्रिएक परमेश्वर में से किसी एक के स्थान पर ही हो सकता है। दूसरे शब्दों में सृजे गए मनुष्य की मानवीय बुद्धि की उपज, सृजनहार परमेश्वर के तुल्य हो कर उसका स्थान ले! यह होना असंभव है। और अब इससे यह देखा तथा समझा जा सकता है कि शैतान ने किस तरह से इस साधारण और अहानिकारक प्रतीत होने वाली बात के द्वारा परमेश्वर को उसके स्थान से हटाने और परमेश्वर का स्थान हथियाने की यह दुष्ट योजना कार्यान्वित की है। और इसे करते हुए मनुष्य यही समझता रहता है कि वह सुसमाचार सन्देश को और अधिक आकर्षक, तथा प्रभावी बना रहा है, परमेश्वर के प्रति भक्तिपूर्ण, आदर और श्रद्धा का व्यवहार कर रहा है, जबकि वास्तव में शैतान ने उसे बहका कर परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध चलने के मार्ग पर डाल दिया है।

    इसीलिए, परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार करते हुए, हमें इस बात के लिए बहुत सावधान एवं सचेत रहना चाहिए कि हम उसमें किसी भी प्रकार की कोई भी फेर-बदल नहीं करें, न तो उसमें कुछ जोड़ें, और न ही उसमें से कुछ निकालें। पौलुस के जीवन और सेवकाई के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति व्यवहार को सीखने को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:4-5 से देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 5

 

    In learning to handle God’s Word appropriately, for the past few articles, we have been learning from Paul’s life and ministry, from his handling of God’s Word. In this, we started off with 1 Corinthians 1:17, and saw that there Paul says three things about his ministry, and these things have a bearing on how he, and we handle God’s Word. These three things in this verse are: Firstly, he was not sent to baptize; secondly, he was sent to preach the gospel; and, thirdly, he preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ In the previous two articles, we have considered the implications of the first two statements on handling the Word of God. Today, we will consider this for the third statement of Paul in this verse.

    The third statement Paul makes in this verse about his handling God’s Word was that Paul preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ What we see implied here is that the “the Cross of Christ” is central to the gospel message, and the gospel is made effective through incorporating the message of the Cross (see verse 18, and chapter 2 for more on this). Moreover, the preacher of the gospel should neither resort to human logic and reasoning, nor have to be very verbose, either to explain the gospel, or to make it sound appealing and logical, for others to accept it. When we present the gospel, i.e., the message of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus to atone for the sins of entire mankind and redeem all mankind from their sins, in a simple straightforward manner. The Spirit of God uses the simple straightforward message to convict people of their sins and bring them to faith in Christ Jesus.

    On the other hand, through God the Holy Spirit, Paul clearly says here that by trying to enhance the gospel, make it sound more appealing and logical by adding human wisdom to it, only takes away its efficacy. This is a New Testament attestation of what we had considered earlier from the Old Testament – Exodus 20:24-25 – in building altars to offer sacrifices and offerings to God, only use what He has provided, and only use it in its natural form. Any human attempts at trying to make the God provided material more beautiful or attractive, will only render it profane, and unfit to be used as an altar for offering anything to God. Like the earth and stones were materials meant for constructing the altars for the Israelites at that time, today, for the Christian Believers, God’s Word is the basis of approaching God and offering our gifts to God – even the gifts of serving Him through sharing the gospel and bringing the saved souls to Him. Like those natural materials were not to be altered in any manner, similarly, God’s Word is not to be altered in any manner today. Paul makes it clear, adding human wisdom to the gospel, makes it ineffective. It may sound like a very appealing and attractive preaching, may even be appreciated and applauded, but will never do what the gospel is meant to do – save souls.

    Salvation is the work of the Triune God – God the Son sacrificed Himself for the sins of entire mankind; God the Holy Spirit takes this and convicts people of their sins and brings them to repentance; God the Father, accepts the repentance of the convicted and penitent, those seeking forgiveness of their sins on the basis of their faith in the redeeming work of the Lord Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, and forgives their sins, accepts them into His Kingdom as His redeemed and reconciled children (John 1:12-13). So, how and where can any human wisdom, logic, understanding enter into this in any way and improve upon this basic fact? Any attempts to bring in anything of human wisdom, logic, understanding, will have to be at the cost of the role or function at least one member of the Triune God. In other words, a product of human ingenuity will replace God; i.e., a creation of the created man, will be equivalent to the Creator God! An impossibility. And now, one can see and realize the subtle, devious satanic scheme of getting man to dethrone God, usurp God’s position, while deceiving him into believing that by doing this enhancing of the gospel message, he is being pious, reverent, and useful for God; while actually, he has been misled into going contrary to God.

    Therefore, in handling God’s Word, we have to be very careful to not alter it in any manner, neither add to it, nor take away from it in any manner. From the next article we will start with 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 in our study through Paul’s life and ministry on appropriately handling God’s Word.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    इसीलिए हम देखते हैं की उसके लेख, उसकी उसे सौंपी गई इस प्राथमिक सेवकाई पर ही केन्द्रित रहते हैं। पौलुस ने कभी भी उसे दिए गए अन्य वरदानों के बारे में विस्तार से नहीं सिखाया या लिखा। यद्यपि उसने अन्य भाषाओं में बोलने के वरदान के बारे में कुछ विस्तार से अवश्य लिखा, किन्तु वह भी कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली में घुस आई गलतियों को सही करने के सन्दर्भ में था। उस मण्डली ने अन्य भाषाओं के पवित्र आत्मा के वरदान को गलत समझना और उसका अनुचित रीति से उपयोग करना आरंभ कर दिया था, और उन में से कुछ लोग औरों पर अपने आप को बड़ा दिखाने के लिए उसका दुरुपयोग कर रहे थे। इन सभी बातों के कारण कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों की गवाही और उनकी आत्मिक उन्नति खराब हो रही थी, जो उनके द्वारा सुसमाचार तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रचार के लिए हानिकारक था। इसीलिए पौलुस को पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में इस वरदान के बारे में कुछ विस्तार से बताना पड़ा, जिससे कि गलतियों को सुधार सके, और उन्हें लौटा कर उन्हें दिए गए परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ सही व्यवहार पर ला सके।

    कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी अपनी पहली पत्री, जिसमें उसने उस मण्डली में घुस आई कई गलतियों को संबोधित किया है, के समापन की ओर आते हुए पौलुस उन्हें वापस सुसमाचार पर ले कर जाता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4)। निहितार्थ यह है कि उनके द्वारा सुसमाचार को समझने में ही उनकी समस्याओं के समाधान, तथा अपनी गलतियों को पहचानने और सही करने का मार्ग है। परमेश्वर की कलीसिया में उठने वाली प्रत्येक समस्या की जड़ में, तथा वचन के दुरुपयोग और उस से गलत व्यवहार का कारण, हमेशा ही कोई न कोई पाप होता ही है। यह पाप बहुधा बहुत गहरा छिपा हुआ होता है, तथा उसे परमेश्वर के प्रति भक्ति और श्रद्धा से बहुत अच्छे से ढांपा हुआ भी होता है। लेकिन जब मसीही विश्वासी कलवरी के क्रूस के सामने आ कर खड़ा होता है, अपने छुटकारे के आधार और उसके लिए चुकाई गई कीमत पर विचार करता है, तो उसके सामने उसका यह छिपा हुआ पाप प्रकट हो जाता है, वह कायल होता है, पश्चाताप करता है, और परमेश्वर से क्षमा मांगकर उससे निकलने का मार्गदर्शन माँगता है। इसलिए, सुसमाचार न केवल पापियों को उद्धार देने के लिए, बल्कि भटके हुए मसीही विश्वासी को लौटा कर परमेश्वर की संगति में बहाल करने, और उसे फिर से परमेश्वर के लिए उपयोगी बनाने के लिए भी उपयोगी है।

    तो, यहाँ पर, पौलुस के जीवन से हमने परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार के दूसरे सिद्धांत के बारे में देखा है कि, अपनी परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाई को पहचानो, और परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए वरदानों और योग्यताओं का सदुपयोग करो, तथा उनके अनुसार परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार करो। इससे आप को भी आशीष मिलेगी, तथा परमेश्वर के नाम को भी महिमा मिलेगी।

English Translation

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 4

 

    We are now learning the appropriate way of handling God’s Word, through the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul. In the previous article we had started with 1 Corinthians 1:17, and seen that Paul says three things about his God given ministry in that verse: Firstly, he was not sent to baptize; secondly, he was sent to preach the gospel; and, thirdly, he preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’ Of these three, we had seen the first one, and drawn the lesson that those engaged in the ministry of sharing, preaching, teaching the Word of God, should be aware of their God appointed ministry, they should take care of it, and fulfil it. Before doing anything outside of their God given ministry, it should diligently be cross checked and confirmed, before proceeding with doing it, lest Satan be deceiving them into doing something inappropriate. We will consider the second statement today.

    In the Church of God, different people have been given different gifts and responsibilities for the growth and edification of the Church (1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 4:11-13). According to the ministry allocated by God the Holy Spirit, appropriate gifts too have been given to the members of the Church (1 Corinthians 12:5-6, 11) to help then carry out their ministries worthily. Paul, at the time of his conversion, had primarily been given the ministry of preaching the Gospel and witnessing for God to Gentiles, kings, and children of Israel (Acts 9:15). But Paul’s life and ministry also shows that preaching the gospel was not the only God given gift that he had. Paul also had the gift of doing various miracles and wonders, of healing, of casting out demons, and even of raising the dead back to life (Acts 16:18; 19:11-12; 20:9-12; 28:8). But these God given gifts and abilities never made him loose sight of the fact that his primary ministry was of preaching the gospel, as he reaffirms it in 1 Corinthians 9:16-17.

    Therefore, we see that his writings are focused on this main ministry that had been entrusted to him. Paul never wrote or taught in any detail about the various other gifts that God had given him. Although he did write in some detail about the gift of speaking in tongues, but that too was in context of rectifying the error that had come into the congregation of the Church at Corinth. That congregation had started misunderstanding and misusing the Holy Spirit’s gift of speaking in tongues, in an incorrect manner, and some were using it to assert superiority over others. All of this was adversely affecting the spiritual growth and witness of the Christian Believers in Corinth, which would have a negative impact on the preaching of the gospel and sharing God’s Word by the Corinthian Christian Believers. Therefore, Paul through the Holy Spirit had to explain about this gift, rectify the errors, and bring them back to correctly handling God’s Word that they had received.

    As Paul concludes his first letter to the Corinthians, in which he addresses the various errors that had come into that congregation, Paul takes them back to the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The implication is that in the understanding of the gospel are the solutions to their problems and the way to realize and rectify their errors. Always at the root of every problem in the Church of God and the reason of every mishandling of God’s Word is sin, very often quite covert, and well covered with an appearance of being godly and reverent. But when the Christian Believer comes and stands before the Cross of Calvary, ponders over the basis of his redemption and what it cost, his hidden sin is exposed to him, he is convicted and penitent for it, and seeks God’s forgiveness and guidance to come out of it. Hence, the gospel not only serves to bring salvation to the sinners, but also serves to bring the wayward Believer back into God’s fellowship and make him useful for God once again.

    So, here, from Paul’s life, we see about the second principle of handling God’s Word – know your God given ministry, and use your God given gifts and abilities to focus your handling of God’s Word according to that. That will bless you and others, and glorify God’s name.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने पौलुस के जीवन और सेवकाई से संबंधित आधारभूत सिद्धान्तों को देखा था, उन्हीं सिद्धान्तों को पौलुस वचन के साथ उसके व्यवहार पर भी लागू करता था। आज से हम उसके द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन से किए जाने वाले व्यवहार के कुछ विशिष्ट उदाहरणों को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे, और उसके रवैये, उसके द्वारा रखी जाने वाले सावधानियाँ और वह किन बातों का ध्यान रखता था, आदि को – उसे तब उपलब्ध पवित्र शास्त्र, केवल पुराने नियम ही के लेखों और शिक्षाओं के प्रति ही नहीं, बल्कि जो सन्देश परमेश्वर उस औरों को देने, प्रचार करने, सिखाने, पत्री लिखने आदि के लिए देता था; उनके बारे में भी उसका क्या व्यवहार था, हम उसे देखेंगे। इस सन्दर्भ में हमें एक सिद्धान्त का ध्यान रखना भी आवश्यक है, जिस सिद्धान्त को परमेश्वर अपने वचन, अपने सन्देश को किसी के द्वारा औरों को दिए जाने के बारे में, अपने संदेशवाहकों के प्रति उपयोग करता है। परमेश्वर अपनी बात में बहुत विशिष्ट रहता है; वह इधर-उधर की बातें नहीं करता है, और प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को उसकी सेवकाई के अनुसार ही आगे पहुंचाने के लिए सन्देश देता है (रोमियों 12:6-8)।

    कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया के नाम पौलुस की पत्रियाँ, उन में तथा वहाँ के कई मसीही विश्वासियों के जीवनों घुस आई कुछ बहुत गंभीर गलतियों को दिखाने और उन्हें सही करने के लिए लिखी गई थीं। उसकी लिखी पहली पत्री के पहले अध्याय में, हमारे विषय के सन्दर्भ में, पौलुस उन आरंभिक सिद्धान्तों का उल्लेख करता है, जिन से आरम्भ कर के, हम आने वाले दिनों में, कुछ विशिष्ट उदाहरणों को देखेंगे। पौलुस, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखता है, “क्योंकि मसीह ने मुझे बपतिस्मा देने को नहीं, वरन सुसमाचार सुनाने को भेजा है, और यह भी शब्दों के ज्ञान के अनुसार नहीं, ऐसा न हो कि मसीह का क्रूस व्यर्थ ठहरे” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17)। यद्यपि इस पद में व्याख्या करने के लिए बहुत कुछ है, किन्तु हम अपने आप को अपने विषय तक ही सीमित रखेंगे – “परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार करना।”  पौलुस यहाँ पर, मसीह के द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई के बारे में तीन बातें कहता है: पहली, उसे बपतिस्मा देने के लिए नहीं भेजा गया था; दूसरी, उसे सुसमाचार प्रचार करने के लिए भेजा गया था; और तीसरी उसका प्रचार “शब्दों के ज्ञान के अनुसार नहीं” था, और यह करने का कारण भी वह बताता है, “ऐसा न हो कि मसीह का क्रूस व्यर्थ ठहरे।”

    यदि हम इस अध्याय के इससे पहले के पदों को देखें, तो पौलुस के यह कहने का अभिप्राय स्पष्ट हो जाता है। कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया की स्थापना, उनके मध्य पौलुस द्वारा लगभग डेढ़ वर्ष तक की गई सेवकाई का परिणाम था (प्रेरितों 18:1-11)। और अब पौलुस को यह पता चला था कि कुरिन्थुस की कलीसिया में बहुत सारी गलतियाँ घुस आई हैं। पौलुस उनमें पाई जाने वाली गलतियों से व्यवहार का आरम्भ, उनमें देखी जाने वाली गुट-बाज़ी, विभाजनों से करता है। उनमें यह विभाजन उनके मध्य काम करने वाले मसीही अगुवों का अनुसरण करने पर आधारित था; और इस विभाजन के लिए एक आधार यह भी था, कि किस अगुवे ने किसे बपतिस्मा दिया था। पौलुस, तुरंत, सीधे ही, कलीसिया में प्रभु का अनुसरण करने की बजाए मनुष्यों का अनुसरण करने तथा मंडली में विभाजन लाने की इन प्रवृत्तियों को सही करता है। पौलुस उन्हें स्पष्ट कहता है कि मसीह ने उसे उनके मध्य में किस लिए भेजा था। पौलुस द्वारा इस पद में बपतिस्मे के बारे में कहे गए कथन से उद्धार तथा बपतिस्मे में संबंध के बारे में बहुत कुछ देखा और समझा जा सकता है, लेकिन यह हमारा विषय नहीं है। हमारे विषय के लिए, हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 के इस आरंभिक भाग से जो सीख और समझ सकते हैं, वह है, जो लोग परमेश्वर के वचन को बांटने, प्रचार करने, सिखाने की सेवकाई में लगे हैं, उन को परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें सौंपी गई सेवकाई के बारे में पता होना चाहिए, उन्हें उसका ध्यान रखना चाहिए, और उसे पूरा करना चाहिए। उनके लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित सेवकाई से बाहर की किसी भी बात में संलग्न होने से पहले, उसे बहुत ध्यान से जाँचने-परखने के, उसमें जुड़ने के लिए अच्छे से सुनिश्चित कर लेने के बाद ही आगे बढ़ना चाहिए, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि शैतान कुछ अनुचित करवाने के लिए बहका रहा हो।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 3

 

    In the last article we have seen the foundational principles of the Apostle Paul’s life and ministry, the principles that he also applied in his handling of God’s Word. From today we will start looking at some specific examples of his handling God’s Word, his approach, the precautions he took, and the considerations he kept, etc., when he handled God’s Word – not just the text and teachings of the Old Testament Scriptures then available to him, but also the messages that God gave him to be delivered to others in preaching, teaching and writing. In this context, we need to remember a principle that God uses when giving His Word, His message to be delivered by His messengers. God is very specific; He does not beat around the bush, and gives every person the message, that is related to that person’s ministry, to pass on to others (Romans 12:6-8).

    A major part of the New Testament text are the various letters written to the different Churches and to some people. Most of these letters are those which were written by Paul. Unlike a popular misconception, these are not the only letters that were written by the disciples of the Lord, or even by Paul, to the various Churches and people; for sure, there were other inspired writings too. When they were being written, no one knew that eventually some of these letters, no knew which ones, would be compiled to become a part of the eternal Word of God, forever settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). But whether written by Paul, or by some other disciple of the Lord Jesus; whether destined to be incorporated into God’s Word or not; all of these letters, though written under the inspiration and guidance of God the Holy Spirit, were written with the primary intention of teaching sound doctrine and practices of Christian living, as well as to clarify and rectify the errors that had crept into the Churches and the personal lives of the Christian Believers. Hence, it was incumbent upon the writers of those letters to make sure that whatever they wrote was in fact the Word given by God, and not their own fanciful opinion about some issue in the Church or the life of some Believer.

    Paul’s letters to the Church in Corinth, were written to them to address and provide the remedy for some very gross errors that had crept into that Church and the lives of the members of that Church. In the very first chapter of the first letter to the Corinthians, in context of our topic, Paul puts down the initial principles that we will consider, in beginning to see some of the specific examples. Paul, under the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit writes, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect” (1 Corinthians 1:17). Although there is much to expound upon in this verse, but we will keep ourselves confined to our topic – ‘Handling God’s Word’. Paul, here, says three things about his Christ appointed ministry: Firstly, he was not sent to baptize; secondly, he was sent to preach the gospel; and, thirdly, he preached ‘not with wisdom of words’, and the reason for doing so was, ‘lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.’

    If we look at the preceding verses of this chapter, from verse 12 to this one, the reason for Paul’s saying this becomes clear. The Corinthian Church had been established by Paul’s ministry of about a year and a half among them (Acts 18:1-11). And now, Paul got to know that many errors had come into the Corinthian Church. Paul begins his handling of the errors with the Corinthian congregation getting divided, factions were coming up and taking hold, based upon following the Christian leaders working amongst them; and for this factionalism, one of the criteria being used was, which Christian leader had baptized them. Paul, straightaway sets this right, strongly discourages any factionalism and tendency to follow men rather than the Lord in the Church. Paul expressly states to them what the Lord had sent him for amongst them. Much can be said and understood from this statement of Paul in this verse, regarding the role of baptism in salvation of a person, but that is not our subject. For our subject, what we can see and learn from this first part of 1 Corinthians 1:17 is that those engaged in the ministry of sharing, preaching, teaching the Word of God, should be aware of their God appointed ministry, they should take care of it, and fulfil it. Anything outside of their God given ministry, should diligently be cross checked and confirmed, before proceeding with it, lest Satan be deceiving them into doing something inappropriate.

    We will take up the further understanding of handling God’s Word based on this verse in the next article.     तो फिर, हम मसीही विश्वासियों को परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ किस प्रकार से व्यवहार रखना और करना चाहिए? पिछले लेख में हमने उन बातों को देखा था जिन पर पौलुस का मसीही जीवन, सेवकाई, और वचन के साथ व्यवहार पूर्णतः आधारित था, वे उसकी नींव थीं; और वह उन बातों के बाहर कभी नहीं गया। क्योंकि पौलुस परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ व्यवहार संबंधित उन सिद्धांतों को लेकर इतना दृढ़ और अडिग था, इसीलिए, परमेश्वर ने भी उसे वचन के गहरे दर्शन दिए, पहले गुप्त रखे गए भेदों को उस पर प्रकट किया, परमेश्वर ने उसे अन्य-जातियों के मध्य बहुत सामर्थ्य के साथ सुसमाचार प्रचार करने के लिए उपयोग किया, यद्यपि वह सामान्यतः पैदल ही यात्राएँ करता था, लेकिन फिर भी परमेश्वर उसे दूर-दूर के बहुत से स्थानों तक लेकर गया, उसे उचित सहकर्मी और साथी दिए, और हमारे आज के संपर्क रखने और वार्तालाप करने के आधुनिक साधनों के बिना भी, वह जहाँ जाता था, वहाँ के लोगों से तथा स्थापित कलीसियाओं के साथ संपर्क बना कर रख सका। दूसरे शब्दों में, यदि हम मसीही विश्वासी भी इन सिद्धान्तों को समझ और स्वीकार कर लें जिन पर पौलुस का जीवन और सेवकाई आधारित थे, तो हम भी परमेश्वर के द्वारा बहुतायत से उसकी महिमा के लिए उपयोग किए जा सकते हैं, उस से आशीषित हो सकते हैं।

    ये सिद्धान्त, जिन का उल्लेख हमने पिछले लेख में किया था, हैं:

·        पौलुस परमेश्वर के और उसके कार्य के लिए बहुत उत्साही और उद्यमी था, उसके मसीही बनाने से पहले भी (फिलिप्पियों 3:6), और फिर उसके बाद भी। उसके जीवन का एकमात्र उद्देश्य था परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करना, उसे ऊँचे पर उठाना, उसका आज्ञाकारी रहना, चाहे कोई भी कीमत क्यों न चुकानी पड़े।

·        प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करने के बाद, उसने अपने आप को बहुत ही दीन कर लिया था, वह अपने आप को प्रभु के एक निम्न-कोटि के दास से अधिक नहीं समझता था (रोमियों 1:1), और वह औरों को मसीह के पास लाने के लिए स्वयं को समायोजित करने, उनकी आवश्यकता के अनुसार अपने आप को अनुकूलित करने के लिए तैयार रहता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 9:19-22); लेकिन इसका यह अर्थ कदापि नहीं था कि वह किसी भी रीति से अपने विश्वास अथवा परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ कोई समझौता करने को तैयार रहता था।

·        पौलुस ने कभी भी अपने विश्वास अथवा परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ किसी प्रकार का कोई समझौता नहीं किया (गलातियों 2:5, 14; 4:16)। लेकिन साथ ही, सुसमाचार को प्रस्तुत करने में, उसने कभी अविश्वासियों को कोई ठोकर नहीं दी (प्रेरितों 19:37; 24:12; 25:8; 2 कुरिन्थियों 6:3), तथा साथ ही औरों को भी यही करना सिखाया भी (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:32)।

·        पौलुस इस बात के प्रति बहुत प्रतिबद्ध था कि सेवकाई के लिए उसकी नियुक्ति और उसका भण्डारी होना परमेश्वर की ओर से है, न कि किसी मनुष्य की (1 कुरिन्थियों 9:17; गलातियों 1:1; 1 तीमुथियुस 1:1)। इसलिए उसने अपनी सेवकाई के विषय अपने आप को कभी भी किसी मनुष्य को जवाबदेह होने या उसके आधीन होने के लिए बाध्य नहीं समझा; किन्तु कभी कलीसिया के अनुशासन को भंग नहीं किया, कभी घमण्डी या उद्दण्ड नहीं रहा, कभी अपने आप को ही अपना अधिकारी मान कर काम नहीं किया।

·        पौलुस परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखने के लिए, पूर्णतः परमेश्वर पर ही निर्भर रहता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:23; 15:3; इफिसियों 3:3-5; गलातियों 1:11-12; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:2)।

·        पौलुस परमेश्वर का आज्ञाकारी रहता था, और जहाँ भी परमेश्वर उसे भेजता था, वहाँ जाता था, और वही कहता था, जो परमेश्वर चाहता था कि वह कहे (प्रेरितों 16:6-10; 23:11)।

·        पौलुस यह जानता और भरोसा रखता था कि जैसे उसकी नियुक्ति, उसका सन्देश, और उसकी सेवकाई परमेश्वर की ओर से थे, उसी प्रकार से उसकी जवाबदेही भी परमेश्वर को थी। पौलुस भली-भांति जानता था कि जैसे अन्य सभी को, वैसे ही उसे भी अपने जीवन और कार्यों के लिए परमेश्वर को जवाब देना ही होगा (रोमियों 2:6; 14:10-12; 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:8; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10; गलातियों 6:5; इफिसियों 6:8; कुलुस्सियों 3:24-25)। इसीलिए, वह हमेशा यही प्रयास करता रहता था कि हमेशा, हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने वाला बना रहे (रोमियों 14:8; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:9; गलातियों 1:10), साथ ही उसके कारण किसी को ठोकर भी न लगने पाए, और न ही अपने विश्वास और परमेश्वर के वचन के लिए कोई समझौता करे; और वह यही करना सिखाया भी करता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:58; कुलुस्सियों 1:10; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:1; 2 तीमुथियुस 2:4)।

 

    ये सभी गुण, परमेश्वर और उसके कार्य के लिए उत्साहित रहना, हमेशा हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने वाला बने रहने के लिए प्रयासरत रहना, अपने विश्वास और परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ कोई भी समझौता किए बिना, किसी को भी अपने जीवन से ठोकर नहीं देना, परमेश्वर से वचन को सीखना, बहुत दीनता और नम्रता के साथ परमेश्वर तथा मनुष्यों की सेवा करना, और इस एहसास के साथ सेवकाई करना कि उसके लिए वह किसी मनुष्य को नहीं, केवल परमेश्वर को उत्तरदायी है, वे पूर्वापेक्षित आधारभूत बातें हैं जो परमेश्वर के वचन से प्रभावी रीति से व्यवहार करने के लिए अनिवार्य हैं, ताकि हम परमेश्वर से आशीषित हों और परमेश्वर को महिमा मिलने पाए।

    अगले लेख से हम कुछ विशिष्ट उदाहरणों को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे कि पौलुस किस प्रकार परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ कार्य करता था, और उस दौरान, बीच-बीच में, आवश्यकतानुसार, उपरोक्त बातों और हवालों का भी उपयोग करते रहेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 2

 

    In an earlier article, we had seen the power and blessing God’s Word brings in the lives of those who give it it’s due respect and status in their lives. Now, since the previous article, in considering a Christian Believer’s responsibility to be a steward of God’s Word, we have shifted focus from the ways God’s Word is misused and inappropriately handled, to what the proper handling of God’s Word should be like by a Christian Believer. In the last article we have also seen how and why the Apostle Paul, the human author of about two-thirds of the New Testament, serves as an appropriate example about learning the handling of God’s Word; we can learn many things from the way he handled God’s Word, and how we too ought to do it.

    So, how should we Christian Believers handle God’s Word? In the last article we had seen the things that formed the very basis, the foundation, upon which Paul’s Christian life, his ministry, and his handling of God’s Word was based; and he never went outside of those foundational points. Because Paul was so firm and established about these basic principles related to handling God’s Word, therefore, God gave him great insights, opened his understanding to mysteries kept hidden earlier, God used him mightily to preach the gospel amongst the Gentiles, though he usually travelled by foot yet God took him far and wide to many places, gave him suitable companions, and without having our modern means of communication, an ability to keep communicating with the people in the places he had been and in the Churches established through him. In other words, if we Christian Believers can understand and accept these same principles upon which Paul’s ministry was based, we too can be blessed and mightily used by God for His glory.

    These principles, mentioned in the last article, are:

·        Paul was very zealous and hard working for God and God’s work, before his conversion (Philippians 3:6), as well as after it. The sole aim of his life had been to please God, exalt Him, obey Him, at whatever cost.

·        Having accepted Lord Jesus as his savior, he greatly humbled himself, considered himself no more than a lowly slave of the Lord (Romans 1:1), and became willing to adjust and accommodate himself in any required manner, to bring others to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:19-22); but this did not mean his compromising in any manner in faith or on God’s Word.

·        Paul never compromised on his faith, or on God’s Word (Galatians 2:5, 14; 4:16). But in his presenting the gospel, he never offended the non-Believers (Acts 19:37; 24:12; 25:8; 2 Corinthians 6:3), and taught doing the same (1 Corinthians 10:32).

·        Paul was also very committed to the fact that his appointment to his ministry and stewardship was from God, not any person (1 Corinthians 9:17; Galatians 1:1; 1 Timothy 1:1). Therefore, he never felt obliged to, or under any man for his ministry, without breaking Church discipline, or becoming impudent, an authority to himself.

·        Paul solely depended upon God to learn God’s Word (1 Corinthians 11:23; 15:3; Ephesians 3:3-5; Galatians 1:11-12; 1 Thessalonians 4:2).

·        Paul was obedient to God and went where God sent him, and said what God wanted him to say (Acts 16:6-10; 23:11).

·        Paul also knew and trusted that just as his appointment, his message and his ministry were from God, similarly, his accountability too was to God. Paul well knew that like for everyone else, eventually, he too will have to give an account to God for his life and works (Romans 2:6; 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:8; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Galatians 6:5; Ephesians 6:8; Colossians 3:24-25). Therefore, he made it a point to be pleasing to God for all things (Romans 14:8; 2 Corinthians 5:9; Galatians 1:10), without giving any offense to anyone, and being non-compromising in his faith and in God’s Word; and he taught the same (1 Corinthians 15:58; Colossians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:1; 2 Timothy 2:4).

    These qualities of being zealous for God and His work, always endeavoring to be obedient and pleasing to God for everything, not giving offense to others without compromising on faith or God’s Word, learning from God, and very humbly serving God and man with the realization that he is accountable not to any man but to God, are the fundamental pre-requisites of being blessed by God to be able handle God’s Word effectively for God’s glory and own blessings, as Paul was able to do.

    From the next article we will begin to see specific examples of how Paul worked with God’s Word, and will intermittently also use the above facts and references, as and when required.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
