पाप का समाधान - उद्धार - 3

    पिछले दो लेखों में हमने उद्धार से संबंधित पहले प्रश्न – “उद्धार किससे और क्यों” को देखा है। बाइबल की प्रथम पुस्तक, उत्पत्ति के 3 अध्याय में दिए गए विवरण के अनुसार इसी विषय को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, आज हम इस प्रश्न के निष्कर्ष को देखेंगे। 

    पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा था कि पाप के कारण मनुष्य में दोष-बोध, लज्जा, सत्य का सामना करने का डर, परमेश्वर से छिपना, अपनी लज्जा और दोष को अपने प्रयासों से छुपाने की प्रवृत्ति, अपने आप को सही दिखाने के लिए बहाने बनाने तथा दूसरों पर दोषारोपण करने की प्रवृत्ति, और उसमें अहं, अर्थात अपनी गलती को स्वीकार न करने, वरन दूसरों को ही दोषी देखने का स्वभाव आ गया। साथ ही पाप के कारण सृष्टि भी पाप के श्राप में पड़ गई, और उससे निकाले जाने की बाट जोह रही है (रोमियों 8:19-21)। मनुष्य को अपनी गलती मान लेने और पश्चाताप करने, के अवसर देने के बाद भी जब मनुष्य ने परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए अवसर को स्वीकार नहीं किया, उसका लाभ नहीं उठाया, अपने अहं में ही बना रहा, तो अन्ततः परमेश्वर को फिर उसे क्षमा की संभावना से निकाल कर अपने न्याय के नीचे लाना पड़ा।  

    जैसे परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को आरंभ से ही चेतावनी दी थी (उत्पत्ति 2:17), इस पाप के कारण मनुष्य मृत्यु के अधीन आ गया - जो दो प्रकार से उसके जीवन में कार्यान्वित हुई। आत्मिक रीति से वह परमेश्वर की संगति से बिछड़ गया, और शारीरिक रीति से उसी समय से (और तब से मनुष्य के जन्म लेते ही) उसके पल-पल करके मरते चले जाने की अपरिवर्तनीय प्रक्रिया आरंभ हो गई, जो अन्ततः उसकी शारीरिक मृत्यु के साथ पूरी होती है। साथ ही ये सभी बातें, पाप के प्रभाव और मृत्यु, वांशिक, अर्थात फिर उसकी संतान में भी आने वाली भी हो गईं। न केवल पाप के दण्ड के अंतर्गत मनुष्य मृत्यु के अधीनता में आया, वरन उसे अन्य बातों को भी सहना पड़ गया। स्त्री को कहा गया कि उसके प्रसव की पीड़ा और भी अधिक बढ़ जाएगी और वह पीड़ा के साथ बच्चे जनेगी; तथा उसे उसके पति की प्रभुता में दे दिया गया (उत्पत्ति 3:16)। आदम के पाप के कारण भूमि भी श्रापित ठहराई गई, और ठहराया गया कि आदम वाटिका के अच्छे फलों (उत्पत्ति 2:9, 16) के स्थान पर अब जीवन भर बहुत परिश्रम और दुख के साथ पृथ्वी की उपज खाएगा, और पृथ्वी से उसके परिश्रम में व्यर्थ की उपज भी उत्पन्न होती रहेगी (उत्पत्ति 3:17-19) उसे उस आशीषित स्थान, अदन की वाटिका से निकाल दिया गया (उत्पत्ति 3:23-24)। 

    किन्तु केवल ये दुखद बातें ही पाप के प्रति परमेश्वर के न्याय के व्यवहार का प्रकटीकरण नहीं थीं। ये बातें उसके न्याय को दिखाती हैं; किन्तु साथ ही परमेश्वर ने अपने प्रेमी, दयालु, और अनुग्रहकारी, कृपालु स्वभाव को भी इनके साथ व्यक्त किया। परमेश्वर ने अपने विषय बाइबल में लिखवाया है कि उसकी हर योजना उसके लोगों की भलाई के लिए ही होती है: “क्योंकि यहोवा की यह वाणी है, कि जो कल्पनाएं मैं तुम्हारे विषय करता हूँ उन्हें मैं जानता हूँ, वे हानि की नहीं, वरन कुशल ही की हैं, और अन्त में तुम्हारी आशा पूरी करूंगा” (यिर्मयाह 29:11); “और हम जानते हैं, कि जो लोग परमेश्वर से प्रेम रखते हैं, उन के लिये सब बातें मिलकर भलाई ही को उत्पन्न करती है; अर्थात उन्हीं के लिये जो उस की इच्छा के अनुसार बुलाए हुए हैं” (रोमियों 8:28)। इस प्रथम पाप, प्रथम न्याय, और प्रथम दण्ड की प्रक्रिया में भी हम परमेश्वर के इन गुणों को देखते हैं। परमेश्वर ने दण्ड के साथ ही उनके प्रति अपने प्रेम और देखभाल को भी व्यक्त किया:

·        उसने उनके बनाए हुए नाशमान और अस्थाई पत्तों के अँगरखों के स्थान पर उन्हें चमड़े के अँगरखे बना कर पहना दिए, जो लंबे समय तक चल सकते थे। (उत्पत्ति 3:21)

·        परमेश्वर ने स्त्री को यह प्रतिज्ञा भी दी कि पाप से छुड़ाने और पहली स्थिति में बहाल करने वाला जगत का उद्धारकर्ता भी उसी में से होकर आएगा, पुरुष का नहीं, उसका वंश होगा (उत्पत्ति 3:16)। यह बात प्रभु यीशु में होकर पूरी हुई, जो अपनी माता मरियम के कुँवारेपन में, पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से गर्भवती हुई, और आदम के नहीं, परमेश्वर के पुत्र की माता बनाई गई, “जब वह इन बातों के सोच ही में था तो प्रभु का स्वर्गदूत उसे स्वप्न में दिखाई देकर कहने लगा; हे यूसुफ दाऊद की सन्तान, तू अपनी पत्नी मरियम को अपने यहां ले आने से मत डर; क्योंकि जो उसके गर्भ में है, वह पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से है। वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा। यह सब कुछ इसलिये हुआ कि जो वचन प्रभु ने भविष्यद्वक्ता के द्वारा कहा था; वह पूरा हो। कि, देखो एक कुंवारी गर्भवती होगी और एक पुत्र जनेगी और उसका नाम इम्मानुएल रखा जाएगा जिस का अर्थ यह है “परमेश्वर हमारे साथ”।” (मत्ती 1:20-23)। परमेश्वर के कृपालु होने का यह अद्भुत उदाहरण है - जिस के द्वारा पाप और उसकी बरबादी ने संसार में प्रवेश किया, उसे नष्ट, नहीं तो कम से कम नजरंदाज करने के स्थान पर, उसी के द्वारा पाप और उसके दुष्प्रभावों का निवारण करने वाले को भी संसार में भेजे जाने की प्रतिज्ञा परमेश्वर ने इस आरंभिक स्थिति में ही दे दी।

·        पति की ओर स्त्री की लालसा रखने तथा स्त्री को पति के अधिकार में रखने के द्वारा परमेश्वर ने अब परिवार का मुख्या होने का अधिकार आदम को दे दिया। 

·        परमेश्वर चाहता तो आदम और हव्वा को नष्ट कर के, एक नए मनुष्य की रचना कर सकता था; किन्तु उसने ऐसा नहीं किया। उसने उसी मनुष्य के साथ, जिसे उसने अपने स्वरूप में अपने हाथों से बनाया था, और जिसे अपनी श्वास के द्वारा जीवित प्राणी बनाया था, आगे भी कार्य पृथ्वी पर कार्य करते रहने को चुना, और उसी में से संसार को पाप से छुड़ाने वाले को लाने का प्रयोजन किया। 

·        परमेश्वर ने आदम और हव्वा को अदन की वाटिका, उस आशीष और परमेश्वर की संगति के स्थान से तो निकाला, किन्तु पृथ्वी पर से नहीं निकाला; और न ही उनसे समस्त पृथ्वी और जीव-जंतुओं पर दिए गए अधिकार (उत्पत्ति 1:26-28) को वापस लिया। 

·        अदन की वाटिका के बाहर भी परमेश्वर उनकी देखभाल करता रहा, उनकी सहायता करता रहा:

o   अपने प्रथम संतान के प्रसव के समय हव्वा ने कहा, “जब आदम अपनी पत्नी हव्वा के पास गया तब उसने गर्भवती हो कर कैन को जन्म दिया और कहा, मैं ने यहोवा की सहायता से एक पुरुष पाया है” (उत्पत्ति 4:1)। यह पृथ्वी पर मनुष्य का पहला जन्म था; न अदन को और न हव्वा को कुछ पता था कि क्या और कैसे करना है; किन्तु इसमें परमेश्वर ने स्वयं उनकी सहायता की। 

o   अपने भाई की हत्या करने, और परमेश्वर से झूठ बोलने वाले कैन के प्रति भी परमेश्वर ने सहनशीलता का बर्ताव किया, उसे सुरक्षा प्रदान की (उत्पत्ति 4:13-16)। 

    इसके बाद भी बाइबल और शेष मानव इतिहास में भी हम परमेश्वर के पापी, अनाज्ञाकारी, और ढीठ मनुष्यों के प्रति भी इसी प्रकार प्रेमी, अनुग्रहकारी, और कृपालु होने के अनेकों उदाहरणों देखते हैं। इन बातों के आधार पर हम अपने इस पहले प्रश्न “यह उद्धार, अर्थात बचाव, या सुरक्षा किस से और क्यों होना है?” के विषय क्या निष्कर्ष देख सकते हैं? निष्कर्ष स्पष्ट प्रकट हैं:

• किस से - उद्धार या बचाव पाप के दुष्प्रभावों से होना है, जिन के कारण मनुष्यों में आत्मिक एवं शारीरिक मृत्यु, डर, अहं, दोष, लज्जा, परमेश्वर से दूरी, अपनी गलतियों के लिए बहाने बनाना तथा दूसरों पर दोषारोपण करने, परमेश्वर की कृपा को नजरंदाज करने जैसी प्रवृत्ति और भावनाएं आ गई हैं। प्रभु यीशु मसीह हमें पाप के प्रभावों से मुक्त कर के “पवित्र, निष्कलंक, निर्दोष, बेदाग और बेझुर्री” बनाकर अपने साथ, अपनी कलीसिया, अर्थात मसीही विश्वासियों के कुल समुदाय को, अपनी दुल्हन बनाकर खड़ा करना चाहता है (इफिसियों 5:25-27)। 

• क्यों - क्योंकि हमारा सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर हम सभी मनुष्यों से अभी भी प्रेम करता है, हमारे साथ संगति में रखना चाहता है, चाहता है कि हम उस से मेल-मिलाप कर लें, और उसके पुत्र-पुत्री होने के दर्जे को स्वीकार कर लें (यूहन्ना 1:2-13)। वह हमें विनाश में नहीं आशीष में देखना चाहता है। उसने केवल मनुष्य बनाए; मनुष्यों ने अपने आप को स्थान, धर्म, जाति, कुल, रंग, स्तर, शिक्षा, कार्य आदि हर बात के अनुसार विभाजित कर लिया, अपने अंदर ऊँच-नीच ले आया, एक दूसरे से बैर, विरोध, ईर्ष्या, घमंड, दुर्भावना आदि रखने लगा। ये परमेश्वर का किया हुआ नहीं है, वरन पापी मनुष्य की बिगड़ी हुई सोच का परिणाम है, वे “अंजीर के पत्ते” हैं जिनसे मनुष्य अपनी लज्जा को ढाँपना चाहता है, किन्तु ढाँपने के स्थान पर अपनी लज्जा और दोष को और बढ़ाता रहता है। परमेश्वर उससे फिर भी प्रेम करता है, और इन सभी बातों से ऊपर उठकर उसे अपने साथ स्वर्ग में स्थान देना चाहता है। परमेश्वर की इस मनसा को स्वीकार करना अथवा नहीं करना, मनुष्य का अपना निर्णय है। 

    क्या आपने परमेश्वर के इस प्रेम, सहनशीलता, अनुग्रह और कृपया के पक्ष में निर्णय लिया है? यदि नहीं, तो आप अभी यह कर सकते हैं; आपकी स्वेच्छा, सच्चे मन और अपने पापों के लिए पश्चाताप के साथ की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु, मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मैंने मन-ध्यान-विचार-व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करके पाप किया है। मैं धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, मेरे स्थान पर उनके मृत्यु-दण्ड को कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा सह लिया। आप मेरे स्थान पर मारे गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए मृतकों में से जी भी उठे। कृपया मुझ पर दया करें और मेरे पाप क्षमा करें। मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, और अपनी आज्ञाकारिता में अपने साथ बना कर रखें” आपको पाप के विनाश से निकालकर परमेश्वर के साथ संगति और उसकी आशीषों में लाकर खड़ा कर देगी। क्या आप यह प्रार्थना अभी समय रहते करेंगे - निर्णय आपका है?

English Translation

The Solution for Sin - Salvation - 3

In the last two articles, we've looked at the first question related to salvation – “salvation from whom and why.” Continuing on this theme, as described in Chapter 3 of the first book of the Bible, Genesis, we will look at the conclusion of this question today.

In the previous articles, we saw that sin creates guilt and a sense of shame in man, makes him feel afraid of facing the truth, provokes him to hide from God, and to try to hide his shame and guilt through his own vain efforts, and gives him a tendency to make excuses to show himself right. And it also raises up man’s ego, the tendency of not accepting one's mistake, but to blame others for his mistakes, and a nature of seeing and judging the faults of others rather than their own self. Along with man, because of his sin, the creation also came under the curse of sin and is waiting to be delivered from it (Romans 8:19-21). Even after giving man an opportunity to admit his mistake and repent, when man did not accept the opportunity given by God, did not take advantage of it, remained in his ego, then finally God had to take him out of being in the position of obtaining His grace, and to put him in the place of having to face His justice.

Just as God had warned man from the beginning (Genesis 2:17), because of this sin, man came under death — which took effect in his life in two ways. Spiritually he was separated from the fellowship with God, and physically from that moment onwards he (and from then on, all human beings since the moment of their birth) became subject to the irreversible process of dying moment by moment, which eventually culminates in his physical death. At the same time, all these things, the effects of sin and death, also became hereditary, i.e., they also were passed on to his posterity. Not only did man come under the penalty of death due to the curse of sin, but he also had to endure other things while he stayed alive. The woman was told that the pain of her labor would intensify and that she would bear children in pain; And she was brought under the lordship of her husband (Genesis 3:16). The land was also cursed because of Adam's sin, and it was ordained that Adam, in place of the good fruits of the Garden (Genesis 2:9, 16), would eat the produce of the earth with great labor and suffering for the rest of his life; and for all his toils the earth will also produce thorns and thistles - vain and useless produce (Genesis 3:17–19). They were cast out of that blessed place, the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:23–24).

But these sad things weren't the only manifestations of God's justice for sin. These things show God’s justice; But simultaneously, God also expressed His loving, merciful, gracious, and caring nature to them. God has written about Himself in the Bible that all His plans are for the good of His people: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11); “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God; That is, to those who are called according to his will" (Romans 8:28). We see these qualities of God in the process of God’s dealing with this first sin, first judgment, and first punishment. God expressed His love and care for them as well, along with the punishment:

• He replaced the perishable and temporary tunics of leaves man had made for himself with durable leather tunics that could last a long time. (Genesis 3:21)

• God also promised the woman that the Savior of the world, who will redeem mankind from sin and restore them to the initial position, will also come through her; will not be through a man's seed, but her (Genesis 3:16). This was accomplished in the Lord Jesus, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the womb of Mary while she was a virgin, and she was made the mother of the Son of God, not son of Adam, "But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." So, all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."" (Matthew 1:20-23). This is a wonderful example of God's graciousness - the one by whom sin and its ruining effects entered the world, instead of destroying her, or, at least ignoring her, she was given the promise of bringing into the world the one who will remove the effects of sin and its ill effects, in this initial state itself by God.

• By giving a longing in the woman towards her husband and placing the woman under the headship of the husband, God now gave Adam the right to be the head of the family.

• If God wanted, he could destroy Adam and Eve and create a new man; But he did not do so. He chose to continue working on the earth with the same man He had created in His image with His own hands, and made a living being by His breath, and to bring forth from him the one who would redeem the world from sin.

• God put Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden, the place of blessing and fellowship with God, but not from the earth; Nor did He take away the authority given to them over all the earth and animals (Genesis 1:26-28).

• God kept on caring for them, helping them even when they were outside the Garden of Eden:

• At the time of the delivery of her first child, Eve said, “Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the Lord."” (Genesis 4:1). This was the first child-birth of man on earth; Neither Adam nor Eve knew anything about what to do or how, in this whole process of child-birth; but God Himself helped them in this.

• God also showed tolerance, providing protection for Cain who had lied to God, and had killed his brother (Genesis 4:13-16).

    In the Bible, even after this and in the rest of human history, we see many examples of God being similarly loving, gracious, and kind to sinful, disobedient, and stubborn humans. On the basis of these things, we can think about our first question “from whom is this salvation, i.e., being saved, or delivered, and why?” and derive the conclusions; the conclusions are clear:

• From whom - Salvation, i.e., being saved, or delivered, is from the ill effects of sin, which causes a tendency of ignoring and putting aside God's grace in man, and creates fear, ego, guilt, shame, distance from God, making excuses for one's mistakes and blaming others, and has brought spiritual and physical death in humans. The Lord Jesus Christ wants to free and clean us i.e., the universal assembly of Christian Believers, His Church, from all the effects of sin and make us “holy, spotless, without any blemish and wrinkle” (Ephesians 5:25- 27), to stand with Him at His side as His Bride.

• Why - because our Creator God, despite our sinful state, still loves all of us human beings. He wants to have fellowship with us restored, and wants us to be reconciled to him, and accept the status of being His sons & daughters (John 1:2-13). He wants to see us in a state of blessing, not in destruction. He created only humans; it is we human beings who have divided ourselves according to place, religion, caste, clan, color, status, education, work etc., made ourselves as high or low, brought mutual enmity, hatred, jealousy, pride, malice etc. in our relationships. These are not the design or work of God, but the result of the corrupted thinking of sinful man, they are the "fig leaves" with which man wants to cover his shame, but instead of covering, keeps on multiplying his shame and guilt. God still loves us, and wants us to rise above all these things, and desires to give us a place in heaven with Him. To accept or not to accept this desire and invitation of God is each man's own decision.

    Have you decided in favor of God's love, tolerance, grace and kindness? If not, you can do it now; A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart and with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, and have committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible or not, is your personal decision. Will you say this prayer while you have the time and opportunity - the decision is yours.

पाप का समाधान - उद्धार - 2

    पिछले लेख में हमने परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से उद्धार के बारे में देखना आरंभ किया था। हम इस विषय को तीन प्रश्नों के उत्तर के रूप में देखेंगे। ये प्रश्न हैं:

·        यह उद्धार, अर्थात बचाव, या सुरक्षा किस से और क्यों होना है?

·        व्यक्ति इस उद्धार को कैसे प्राप्त कर सकता है?

·        इसके लिए यह इतना आवश्यक क्यों हुआ कि स्वयं परमेश्वर प्रभु यीशु को स्वर्ग छोड़कर सँसार में बलिदान होने के लिए आना पड़ा?

    कल हमने पहले प्रश्न, किससे और क्यों को देखना आरंभ किया था; और देखा था कि पाप, अर्थात परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करने से, और करते ही, प्रथम मनुष्यों, आदम और हव्वा में क्या परिवर्तन आ गए। उनमें अपने किए के कारण दोष का बोध आ गया; उनमें अपनी दशा को लेकर लज्जा आ गई जिससे वे उस पूर्व उन्मुक्त भाव से परमेश्वर के सम्मुख नहीं आने पाए; वे परमेश्वर से छिपने लगे; और उन्होंने अपनी लाज को ढाँपने के लिए अपने ही प्रयास तो किए, किन्तु वे अपर्याप्त और अस्थाई थे। फिर हमने शिक्षा ली थी कि मनुष्य का पाप उसके अंदर एक दोषी होने के स्थिति, एक ग्लानि को उत्पन्न करता है। पाप के कारण मनुष्य सच्चे परमेश्वर के सामने आने से कतराने लगता है। यद्यपि मनुष्य का समस्त हाल परमेश्वर के सामने बेपरदा है, बिल्कुल खुला है, फिर भी मनुष्य अपनी लज्जा को स्वीकार करने के स्थान पर उसे अपनी धार्मिकता और भलाई के कामों से ढाँपने का प्रयास करता है, जो अपर्याप्त हैं, और अपने इन प्रयासों के बावजूद फिर भी अपने आप को परमेश्वर से छुपाए रखता है, उससे दूर रहने के प्रयास करता है। पाप के कारण आए परिणामों को आज और आगे देखते हैं। 

    बाइबल की पहली पुस्तक, उत्पत्ति के तीन अध्याय में इस प्रथम पाप की स्थिति का वर्णन दिया गया है। परमेश्वर जब मनुष्य से संगति करने अदन की वाटिका में आया, तो उसके विचरण के शब्द को सुनकर आदम और हव्वा वाटिका के वृक्षों के बीच में जाकर उससे छुप गए। किन्तु इस पाप में गिरे और उससे छुपने का प्रयास करने वाले मनुष्य को परमेश्वर ने ऐसे ही नहीं छोड़ दिया। परमेश्वर चाहता तो सीधे से उन पर अपने उस दण्ड की आज्ञा सुना सकता था, जिसकी चेतावनी वह पहले उस वर्जित फल के विषय उनको दे चुका था (उत्पत्ति 2:17)। किन्तु उस प्रेमी, दयालु, कृपालु, अनुग्रहकारी परमेश्वर ने ऐसा नहीं किया। उसने उन्हें अपनी गलती को, अपने पाप को मान लेने का अवसर दिया। गलती मनुष्य ने की थी; पतित दशा में मनुष्य था; अपनी लज्जा और दोष के निवारण को पता करने का कर्तव्य मनुष्य का था। किन्तु उसकी इस दशा का समाधान प्रदान करने के लिए उसे ढूँढता हुआ परमेश्वर आया। जैसे प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने संसार में आने के लिए कहा “क्योंकि मनुष्य का पुत्र खोए हुओं को ढूंढ़ने और उन का उद्धार करने आया है” (लूका 19:10)। 

    परमेश्वर ने वाटिका में, उनके छिपने के स्थान के निकट आकर उन पर दोषारोपण नहीं किया, वरन उन्हें प्रेम से बुलाया; उनसे पूछा “तू कहाँ है?” इसलिए नहीं कि परमेश्वर को उनके बारे में पता नहीं था, वरन इसलिए ताकि वे अपने पाप का, अपनी गलती का अंगीकार कर सकें। इससे पहले कि परमेश्वर को उनपर अपने न्याय को लागू करना पड़े, वह उन्हें पूरा-पूरा अवसर दे रहा था कि वे अपनी गलती को मान लें, क्योंकि परमेश्वर का एक और अद्भुत गुण उसकी क्षमा भी है, “यदि हम अपने पापों को मान लें, तो वह हमारे पापों को क्षमा करने, और हमें सब अधर्म से शुद्ध करने में विश्वासयोग्य और धर्मी है” (1 यूहन्ना 1:9)। आदम बाहर निकल कर आया, और परमेश्वर से बात भी की; किन्तु उसे वास्तविकता बताने के स्थान पर बहाना और स्पष्टीकरण देने लगा; उसने कहा मैं तुझ से डर गया था, इसलिए छुप गया। यह पाप का मनुष्य के जीवन में एक और प्रभाव है - पाप डर उत्पन्न करता है। यह सामान्य व्यवहार की बात है, जब भी हम कोई गलती करते हैं, तो उस गलती के कारण हम में एक डर बना रहता है। मान लीजिए आप अपनी गाड़ी लेकर निकले हैं, और लाइसेंस लेना भूल गए, तो हर पुलिस वाले को देखते ही मन में डर आएगा, “कहीं इसने रोक कर लाइसेंस पूछ लिया तो परेशानी हो जाएगी!”

    परमेश्वर ने उसे फिर से अपने पाप को मान लेने का एक और अवसर भी दिया साथ ही पाप का संकेत भी दिया; उससे सीधे से पूछा कि “क्या उसने वह वर्जित फल खा लिया है?” फिर से मनुष्य ने इस अवसर को गँवा दिया, और अब अपना दोष स्वीकार करने के स्थान पर, अपनी गलती दूसरों पर मढ़ने लगा। आदम ने परमेश्वर को और हव्वा दोनों को दोषी ठहराया - हव्वा को तो परमेश्वर ही ने उसे दिया था, इसलिए उसके लिए परमेश्वर ही जिम्मेदार था। हव्वा ने अपने आप को दोषी मानने के स्थान पर उसे बहकाने वाले सांप को दोषी ठहराया। गलती मान लेने और पश्चाताप करने का यह अवसर भी उन्होंने औरों पर दोषारोपण करने में गँवा दिया। आज भी हमारी स्वाभाविक प्रतिक्रिया अपनी गलती स्वीकार करने के स्थान पर किसी अन्य को उसके लिए जिम्मेदार और दोषी ठहराने की होती है। अब परमेश्वर को न्याय का कदम उठाना पड़ा। 

    उनपर पीड़ा, परिश्रम, और मृत्यु को लागू कर दिया गया, और उन्हें उस आशीष के स्थान अदन के वाटिका से बाहर कर दिया गया। मृत्यु, जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, एक मानवीय प्रयासों से अपरिवर्तनीय बिछड़ने की दशा को दिखाता है। पाप के कारण मनुष्य की संगति परमेश्वर से टूट गई; उसकी आत्मिक मृत्यु तुरंत हो गई, और वह शारीरिक मृत्यु के लिए भी निर्धारित कर दिया गया। मूल इब्रानी भाषा में जो वाक्यांश इसके लिए उत्पत्ति 2:17 में प्रयोग हुआ है, उसका वास्तविक अंग्रेजी अनुवाद है “dying thou dost die (YLT); dying thou shalt die (SLT)” जिसका हिन्दी अनुवाद होता है “मरते मरते तू मर जाएगा”। अर्थात, “उसी दिन से तेरी निरंतर कभी न रुकने और पलटे जाने वाली मरते चले जाने की प्रक्रिया आरंभ हो जाएगी, और अंततः तू मर जाएगा।” जिस दिन आदम और हव्वा ने पाप किया उनके लिए मृत्यु दो रीति से आ गई - आत्मिक रीति से वे परमेश्वर की संगति से अलग हो गए; और शारीरिक रीति से उन्होंने मरना आरंभ कर दिया, और अंततः अपनी आयु पूरी करके मर गए, मिट्टी में मिल गए। यही दशा तब से प्रत्येक मनुष्य के साथ रहती है; वह आत्मिक रीति से परमेश्वर से दूरी की दश में और शारीरिक रीति से एक दिन-प्रतिदिन घटती जाती आयु के साथ जन्म लेता है, और आयु पूरी करके मर जाता है, मिट्टी में मिल जाता है “इसलिये जैसा एक मनुष्य के द्वारा पाप जगत में आया, और पाप के द्वारा मृत्यु आई, और इस रीति से मृत्यु सब मनुष्यों में फैल गई, इसलिये कि सब ने पाप किया” (रोमियों 5:12)।

    पहले पाप से उत्पन्न हुई स्थिति के प्रति परमेश्वर की प्रतिक्रिया के बारे में हम और आगे अगले लेख में देखेंगे। अभी के लिए आप से निवेदन है कि अपने जीवनों की वास्तविक स्थिति का आँकलन करके देखें। पाप प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को दूसरों पर दोषारोपण करने वाला, अपनी गलती के लिए औरों को जिम्मेदार ठहराने वाला, यहाँ तक कि परमेश्वर को भी दोषी ठहराने वाला बना देता है। मनुष्य सत्य के सामने आने, उसे स्वीकारने से डरता है, और हर हाल में अपने आप को सही दिखाना चाहता है। किन्तु परमेश्वर आपकी यह वास्तविकता जानता है, फिर भी वह आप से प्रेम करता है, आपके साथ अपनी संगति को बहाल करना चाहता है। लेकिन यह संभव हो पाना आपके निर्णय पर आधारित है। आपकी स्वेच्छा और सच्चे पश्चाताप तथा समर्पित मन से की गई एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु, मैं मान लेता हूँ कि मन-ध्यान-विचार-व्यवहार में आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करके मैंने पाप किया है। मैं धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, मेरे स्थान पर उनके मृत्यु-दण्ड को कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए अपने बलिदान के द्वारा सह लिया। आप मेरे स्थान पर मारे गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए मृतकों में से जी भी उठे। कृपया मुझ पर दया करें और मेरे पाप क्षमा करें। मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें, अपनी आज्ञाकारिता में अपने साथ बना कर रखें।” परमेश्वर आपकी संगति की लालसा रखता है, आपको दण्ड के अधीन नहीं, वरन आशीषित देखना चाहता है; इसे संभव करना या न करना, आपका अपना व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है।

English Translation

The Solution for Sin - Salvation - 2

From the previous article, we had begun to look from God's Word, the Bible about salvation. We will consider this topic as answers to three questions. These three are the questions:

• This salvation, i.e., being saved, or delivered, is to be from what or whom, and why?

• How can one receive this salvation?

• For this, why was it so necessary for the Lord Jesus himself to leave heaven and come to the world to be sacrificed?

Yesterday we started looking at the first question, salvation from what or whom and why; and had seen about the changes that came about in the behavior of the first humans, Adam and Eve, because of sin, i.e., disobeying God.  Because of their deed, there was guilt in them; they were ashamed of their condition, they could not come before the Lord God with the same freedom they earlier had; they began to hide from God; and they made their own vain, insufficient, and fallible efforts to cover up their guilt and shame. From this we learnt that man's condition of sin produces guilt and shame. Because of sin, man hesitates to come before the true God, although the actual condition of man is always open before God, yet instead of accepting his wrong-doing causing the guilt and shame, man tries to cover it with his self-righteousness and works of goodness, which are inadequate. And in spite of his efforts  of being righteous, he still tries to keep himself hidden from the true God, tries to stay away from Him. Today, we will look further at the consequences brought about by sin.

The description related to this first sin is given in chapter three of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. When God came to the Garden of Eden to fellowship with man, on hearing the sound of His walking, Adam and Eve hid from Him in the midst of the trees of the Garden. But God did not ignore and leave alone man who had fallen into sin and was trying to hide from Him. If God had wanted to, He could have directly ordered the punishment that He had previously warned them about eating the forbidden fruit (Genesis 2:17). But that loving, compassionate, merciful, gracious God did not do so. He gave them the opportunity to admit their mistake, their sin. The mistake was made by man; it was man who was in a fallen condition; therefore, it was the duty of man to find out the way of redressal for his sin and the consequent shame and guilt. Instead, to provide a divine, eternal solution to man’s condition, God came looking for him. As the Lord Jesus Christ said about the purpose of His coming into his world "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10).

God, on coming near their hiding place in the Garden, did not accuse them, but lovingly called them, asking them "Where are you?" It is not that God didn't know about them, but so that they could come out and confess their sin, their mistake. Before God felt compelled to impose His judgment on them, He was giving every possible opportunity to them to admit their mistake, because another wonderful quality of God is His forgiveness, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Adam came out, and also spoke to God; But instead of telling him the reality, he started giving excuses and explanations; he said I was scared of you, so I hid. This is another effect of sin in man's life - sin generates fear. It is a matter of normal behavior, whenever we make a mistake, there is a fear in us because of that mistake. Suppose you have gone out driving your vehicle, but have forgotten to take your driving license, then every time you see a policeman on the road, you will feel scared on seeing him, the constant thought at the back of your mind will be, “If he stops me and asks for the license, then I will be in trouble!”

God gave him another opportunity to confess his sin again; while also indicating that he knew about his sin; God asked him directly "Have you eaten that forbidden fruit?" Again man a mess of this opportunity, and now instead of accepting his fault, he started blaming others for his mistake. Adam blamed both God and Eve - Eve was God’s creation and given to him by God, so God was responsible for her. Instead of accepting her fault, Eve too blamed the snake who had enticed her to sin. They lost this opportunity also, to admit their mistake and repent, by blaming others for their condition. Even today, our natural reaction is to blame others and hold others responsible for our mistakes and faults, instead of admitting them. Now God had to take the step of passing judgment on them.

Pain, toil, and death were imposed on them, and they were thrown out of the place of blessing, the Garden of Eden. As we have seen earlier, death, refers to a state of humanly irreversible separation. From the moment man's fellowship with God was broken because of sin; he died spiritually from that instant, and from that moment onwards, he was also condemned to die physically. The literal English translation of the phrase used for this in Genesis 2:17 in the original Hebrew language is "dying thou dost die” (YLT); or, “dying thou shalt die” (SLT) which translates as “by dying, you will die”. Meaning that “from that day onwards a continuous and non-reversible process of dying will begin for you, and eventually you will die.” The day Adam and Eve sinned, death came to them in two ways - spiritually they were separated from the company of God; And physically they started to die, and eventually died on completing their life-time, returning back to dust. This condition has remained with every human being since then; he is born in a state of being spiritually separated from God, and physically with a day by day decreasing age, dies at the end of his life-time, and eventually turns into dust "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12).

We'll see more in the next article about God's response to the situation created by the first sin. For now, it is a humble request that you self-assess the real situation of your life and see where you stand. Sin makes everyone blame others for their mistake, hold others responsible for their faults - even God. Man is fearful of facing the truth, of accepting it, and wants to show himself right in any case. But God, though He well knows your reality, yet He loves you even in the state you are, wants to restore His fellowship with you. But making it possible is dependent upon your decision. A short prayer from a willing heart, with sincere repentance for sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, and have committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible or not, is your personal decision.

पाप का समाधान - उद्धार - 1

    यूनानी भाषा, जिसमें परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल का नया नियम खण्ड मूल में लिखा गया है, उसमें प्रयुक्त जिस शब्द का अनुवाद ‘उद्धार’ या ‘बचाव’ किया गया है, उसका अर्थ होता है “किसी खतरे अथवा हानि से सुरक्षा प्रदान करना”; अर्थात उद्धार दिए जाने का अर्थ है बचाया जाना, सुरक्षित कर दिया जाना। यहाँ पर एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण, और इस संदर्भ में सर्वदा ध्यान में रखने वाली बात है कि उद्धार हमेशा परमेश्वर की ओर से दिया जाता है; कोई भी व्यक्ति कभी भी, किसी भी रीति से परमेश्वर के उद्धार को कमा नहीं सकता है; अर्थात अपने किसी भी प्रयास से अपने आप को उद्धार प्राप्त करने का अधिकारी अथवा योग्य नहीं कर सकता है। हम आगे चलकर इसे कुछ और विस्तार से देखेंगे और समझेंगे। 

    प्रभु यीशु मसीह के पृथ्वी पर आने का उद्देश्य, स्वयँ उन्हीं के शब्दों में, सँसार के सभी पाप में खोए हुए लोगों को बचाना, यही सुरक्षा, अर्थात उद्धार, सारे सँसार के सभी लोगों को उपलब्ध करवाना था “क्योंकि मनुष्य का पुत्र लोगों के प्राणों को नाश करने नहीं वरन बचाने के लिये आया है ...” (लूका 9:56); “यदि कोई मेरी बातें सुनकर न माने, तो मैं उसे दोषी नहीं ठहराता, क्योंकि मैं जगत को दोषी ठहराने के लिये नहीं, परन्तु जगत का उद्धार करने के लिये आया हूं” (यूहन्ना 12:47)। प्रभु द्वारा दिए जाने वाले इस उद्धार के विषय कुछ आधारभूत प्रश्न हैं, जिनके उत्तर जानना और समझना परमेश्वर की मानव जाति को अपनी संगति में बहाल करने की इस योजना को जानने, समझने, और मानने के लिए बहुत आवश्यक है। 

    ये प्रश्न हैं:

·        यह उद्धार, अर्थात बचाव, या सुरक्षा किस से और क्यों होना है?

·        व्यक्ति इस उद्धार को कैसे प्राप्त कर सकता है?

·   इसके लिए यह इतना आवश्यक क्यों हुआ कि स्वयं परमेश्वर प्रभु यीशु को स्वर्ग छोड़कर सँसार में बलिदान होने के लिए आना पड़ा?

उद्धार - किस से और क्यों? 

    कल हमने देखा था कि मनुष्य के प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम का संकेत इस बात से मिलता है कि केवल मनुष्य ही है जिसको परमेश्वर ने, अपनी समस्त सृष्टि में से, अपने ही हाथों से, अपनी ही स्वरूप में रचा, और उसके नथनों में अपनी श्वास डालकर उसे जीवित प्राणी बनाया, तथा उसे समस्त पृथ्वी और उसकी सभी बातों और प्राणियों पर अधिकार दिया (उत्पत्ति 1:26-28; 2:7)। केवल मनुष्य ही है जिससे संगति रखने के लिए परमेश्वर अदन की वाटिका में आया करता था। किन्तु आदम और हव्वा के द्वारा किए गए परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता के पाप के कारण, परमेश्वर और मनुष्य की यह संगति टूट गई, और मनुष्य मृत्यु, अर्थात परमेश्वर से सदा के लिए अलग रहने के खतरे में आ गया। यह बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तथा आधारभूत तथ्य है, जिसे समझे बिना उद्धार के बारे में समझना असंभव है। क्योंकि निष्पाप, निष्कलंक परमेश्वर पाप के साथ संगति रखना तो दूर, पाप की ओर देख भी नहीं सकता है (हबक्कूक 1:13) इसलिए उस प्रथम पाप, उस अनाज्ञाकारिता के कारण परमेश्वर और मनुष्य की संगति में अवरोध आ गया (यशायाह 59:1-2), मनुष्य परमेश्वर की संगति से दूर हो गया, और उससे हमेशा के लिए दूर हो जाने, अर्थात, मृत्यु के खतरे में आ गया।

    परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल बताती है कि पाप करने के बाद, पवित्र परमेश्वर के समक्ष निःसंकोच आने, और उससे उन्मुक्त होकर संगति और वार्तालाप करने की मनुष्य, आदम और हव्वा, की प्रवृत्ति बदल गई। उनके अंदर परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में दोषी होने का बोध आ गया, उन्होंने अपने इस नंगेपन, अपनी लज्जा को अपनी दृष्टि में उपयुक्त और उचित, अपने प्रयासों, अंजीर के पत्तों से बने आवरण के द्वारा ढाँप लिया, और जब परमेश्वर उनसे मिलने, संगति करने आया, तो वे परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें लगाकर दी गई वाटिका के वृक्षों में छिप गए: “तब उन दोनों की आंखें खुल गई, और उन को मालूम हुआ कि वे नंगे है; सो उन्होंने अंजीर के पत्ते जोड़ जोड़ कर लंगोट बना लिये। तब यहोवा परमेश्वर जो दिन के ठंडे समय वाटिका में फिरता था उसका शब्द उन को सुनाई दिया। तब आदम और उसकी पत्नी वाटिका के वृक्षों के बीच यहोवा परमेश्वर से छिप गए” (उत्पत्ति 3:7-8)। यहाँ सांकेतिक भाषा में, पाप के प्रभाव और मनुष्य में आए परिवर्तनों के विषय कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातें दी गई हैं:

·        “आँखें खुलना” उन्हें पवित्र परमेश्वर के सम्मुख उनकी वास्तविक दशा तथा अपने किए पाप के दोषी होने का बोध होना दिखाता है।

·        “नंगापन” पाप के कारण उत्पन्न आत्म-ग्लानि, लज्जा को दिखाता है। उनकी सृष्टि से लेकर उस समय तक, वे अपनी इसी निर्वस्त्र दशा में परमेश्वर के साथ मिला करते थे, संगति करते थे, किन्तु उन्हें इसमें कोई लज्जा नहीं होती थी, उन्हें कभी अपने आप को ढाँपने की आवश्यकता नहीं हुई, क्योंकि वे भी निष्पाप और पवित्र दशा में थे। 

·        उनकी सृष्टि के समय से लेकर उनकी यह निर्वस्त्र दशा परमेश्वर के सम्मुख उनके बिल्कुल खुले, प्रकट और किसी भी प्रकार के आवरण रहित होने, और परमेश्वर द्वारा उनके विषय में सब कुछ जानने की ओर भी संकेत करता है।

·        “अंजीर के पत्तों के लंगोट पहनना” मनुष्य के अपने आप को अपने ही प्रयासों से परमेश्वर के सम्मुख प्रस्तुत कर पाने योग्य बनाने को दिखाता है। मनुष्य अपने धर्म के कामों, अपने भले कार्यों, अपने ही बनाए तौर-तरीकों से अपनी लज्जा, परमेश्वर के प्रति अनाज्ञाकारिता और पाप की दशा, को छुपाने का प्रयास करता है। वह यह भूल जाता है कि परमेश्वर के सामने उसका सब हाल खुला है, बेपरदा है। वह अपना कुछ भी परमेश्वर से छिपा नहीं सकता है। 

·        जिस प्रकार वे अंजीर के पत्ते वास्तविकता में केवल एक अस्थाई समाधान थे - थोड़े समय वे मुरझा जाते, सूख कर गिर जाते, और मनुष्य का नंगापन फिर से प्रकट हो जाता, उन्हें फिर से कुछ नया प्रावधान करना पड़ता; उसी प्रकार मनुष्य की धार्मिकता के काम, उसके अपने भलाई के प्रयास, सभी अस्थाई और नश्वर हैं, उसे कभी परमेश्वर के सम्मुख “ढँपा” हुआ और प्रस्तुत होने योग्य नहीं बना सकते हैं। वह बार-बार अपने इन प्रयासों को दोहराता रहता है, किन्तु पाप का दोषी होने का बोध उसके विवेक से नहीं जाता है।

·        उन्होंने परमेश्वर की आवाज़ सुनकर अपने आप को “वाटिका के वृक्षों” में छुपा लिया। आज भी मनुष्य अपनी ही गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता को ओढ़ कर, अपने आप को परमेश्वर की सृष्टि की बातों में छुपाए रखने के प्रयास करता है; परमेश्वर के सामने अपनी वास्तविकता में आने के स्थान पर, वह अपने बनाए हुए आवरण ओढ़े हुए, अपने आप को अपनी ही गढ़ी हुई नश्वर बातों में छिपाए रखना चाहता है। 

 

    आज किसी भी पूछ लें, सब के पास परमेश्वर की संगति में और उसके वचन के साथ समय न बिताने का एक ही बहाना है - “जीवन इतना व्यस्त है कि इन बातों के लिए समय ही नहीं मिलता है; जो थोड़ा बहुत कर सकते हैं, वह कर लेते हैं, वरना संसार की माँगें यह सब करने के लिए समय ही नहीं देती हैं” - सभी अपने आप को संसार की बातों “वाटिका के वृक्षों” में छुपाए रखना चाहते हैं। यह जानते हुए भी कि संसार की यह सब बातें अस्थाई हैं, नश्वर हैं, यहीं रह जाएंगी, इनमें से कोई भी साथ नहीं जाएगी, ऐसा कोई बहाना परमेश्वर के सामने नहीं चलेगा।

    अन्ततः वह समय सभी के जीवन में आएगा जब उन्हें परमेश्वर के सम्मुख अपनी वास्तविक “निर्वस्त्र” दशा में आना ही होगा, और अपने जीवन की हर बात का हिसाब उसे देना होगा। तब उनके बनाए हुए “अंजीर के पत्तों के लंगोट” उनके पाप की दशा को ढाँपने नहीं पाएँगे, और उनके अपने नहीं वरन परमेश्वर के मानकों के आधार पर उन्हें न्यायसंगत ठहराने नहीं पाएंगे। परमेश्वर से उनकी वास्तविकता न अभी छुपी हुई है, और न तब छुपी हुई होगी, “सो जब तक प्रभु न आए, समय से पहिले किसी बात का न्याय न करो: वही तो अन्धकार की छिपी बातें ज्योति में दिखाएगा, और मनों की मतियों को प्रगट करेगा, तब परमेश्वर की ओर से हर एक की प्रशंसा होगी” (1 कुरिन्थियों 4:5)।

English Translation

The Solution for Sin - Salvation - 1

In the Greek language in which the New Testament section of God's Word of the Bible was originally written, the word translated as 'salvation' or 'saved' means "to provide deliverance from danger or harm"; i.e., to be saved means to be delivered, to be secured. A very important thing, something that should always be kept in mind in this context, is that salvation is always given from God; No person can ever, by any means, earn God's salvation; i.e., no one by any of his efforts, can ever make himself worthy or eligible to gain or earn salvation from God. We will see and understand this in some more detail later.

In his own words, the purpose of the Lord Jesus Christ's coming to earth was to save all the people of the world from their state of being lost in their sin, to provide this deliverance, this, salvation, to all the people of the whole world "For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them…” (Luke 9:56); “And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world” (John 12:47). There are some fundamental questions about this salvation that the Lord gives; and the answers to these questions are vital for knowing, understanding, and accepting God's plan to restore mankind to His fellowship.

These are the questions:

• From what is this salvation, i.e., being saved, or being rescued provided; and why?

• How does one attain this salvation?

• To accomplish this, why was it so necessary that the Lord Jesus, Himself, had to leave heaven and come to the world to be sacrificed?

Salvation - from Whom and Why?

Yesterday we saw that God's love for man is indicated by the fact that out of the whole of His creation, man is the only one whom God created with His own hands, in His own image, and Himself breathed life into his nostrils. He not only made him a living creature, but also gave him authority over all the earth and all its things and all creatures (Genesis 1:26–28; 2:7). God used to come to the Garden of Eden to have fellowship only with Adam and Eve. But because of Adam and Eve's sin of disobedience to God, this fellowship between God and man was broken, and man came in the danger of death, that is, of eternal separation from God. This is a very important and fundamental fact, and without understanding this fact, it is impossible to understand about salvation. Because the sinless, spotless God cannot even look towards sin, let alone fellowship with sin (Habakkuk 1:13) so, that first sin, that disobedience, broke the fellowship between God and man and hinders its restoration (Isaiah 59:1- 2); man got separated away from the fellowship of God, and came into a position of being in danger of being separated from Him forever, that is, dying.

God's Word The Bible tells us that after sinning, the attitude and behavior of humans, of Adam and Eve, to come freely before the Holy God, changed. They were no longer able to have fellowship and converse with Him, they started to feel guilty in the presence of God, they tried to cover this nakedness, their shame by something appropriate and worthy in their own eyes, something they made by their own understanding, wisdom, and efforts, i.e., a covering made of fig leaves; and when God came to meet them, they hid in themselves the trees of the garden God had given to them: “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:7-8). Through this incidence, some important points about the effects of sin and changes it brought in man, are given in allegorical language:

• The “opening of their eyes” shows the realization of their actual condition before the Holy God and the guilt of the sin they have committed.

• “Nakedness” refers to the self-condemnation, or the sense of shame that is caused by sin. From their creation till that time, they used to meet, and fellowship with God in this naked state, but they were never ashamed of it, they never needed to cover themselves, because they too were sinless and in a holy state.

• Their being “naked”, since the time of their creation, also indicates that they were completely open, exposed, and without any covering before God, and God always knew everything about them.

• “Wearing coverings made of fig leaves” refers to the efforts of man to make himself presentable to God by his own efforts. Man tries to hide his shame, disobedience to God, and his state of sin, by his works of self-righteousness, his works that are good in his own eyes, through his own imagined and contrived ways. He forgets that before God his condition is always evident and exposed. He cannot hide anything from God.

• Just as those fig leaves, in reality, were only a temporary solution - in a short time they would have withered, dried up, and fallen off, and the nakedness of man would have reappeared, therefore, they would have had to make a new provision all over again. Similarly, man's acts of self-righteousness, his own pursuit of good in his own eyes, etc. are all temporary and fallible; they can never keep him "covered" and make him worthy of being presentable to God. Man keeps on repeating his efforts again and again to come before God, but the nagging feeling of being guilty of sin does not go from his conscience.

• Hearing the voice of God, they hid themselves in the "trees of the garden". Even today man, after covering himself in his own assumed righteousness, tries to hide himself in the things of the earth that God created. Instead of coming forward and appearing before God in his actual condition, he seeks to keep himself covered in his own contrived and fallible self-righteousness, hoping to be worthy of coming before God, and be acceptable to Him, through the vain veil of his own efforts.

Today, ask anyone, and everyone has only one excuse for not spending time in the company of God and with His Word - “Life is so busy that there is no time for these things; Whatever little we can do, we do it, otherwise the demands of the things of the world do not allow time to do all this'' - all want to hide themselves in the “trees of the garden” of the world, and excuse themselves from coming into His presence. Despite knowing very well that all the things of the world they are indulging in, are temporary, perishable, will remain here, and none of these things of the world will go along with them, none of their excuses will work before God.

Eventually the time will come in everyone's life when they will have to come before God, in their true "naked" state, and give account of everything in their lives to Him. Then their self-made “fig leaf coverings” will no longer be able to cover the condition of their sin, and will not be able to justify them by the standards of righteousness, not their own, but of God. Their actual condition is neither hidden from God, nor will ever be hidden, "Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God" (1 Corinthians 4:5).

We'll look further at the situation created by the first sin in the next article. For now, a humble request, please examine your life from God's point of view, and see what your actual situation really is? Think it over, none of your own efforts and measures can hide you from God's sight; Your shame - the state of your sin is open to him. Yet, He still loves you - just as you now are; He wants to restore His fellowship with you. But making this possible is dependent upon your decision. A short prayer from a willing heart, with sincere repentance for sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, and have committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; To make this possible or not, is your personal decision.
