       पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी को प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से कुछ समय तक रोक कर रखने के पीछे मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गई, और कलीसिया के लोगों पर थोपी गई रीतियाँ और नियम हैं; यह वचन की शिक्षा नहीं है। पारंपरिक और डिनॉमिनेशनल कलीसियाओं में, जहाँ शिशुओं को “बपतिस्मा” देने का प्रचालन है, उनकी धारणाओं और मान्यताओं के अनुसार, प्रभु-भोज में भाग लेने से पहले उस जन का दृढ़ीकरण होना आवश्यक है, क्योंकि वह दृढ़ीकरण के बाद ही वास्तव में मसीही बनता है; यद्यपि बाइबल में किसी के भी दृढ़ीकरण की कोई शिक्षा, कोई उल्लेख, या कोई उदाहरण नहीं है। यह दृढ़ीकरण न होने के कारण भी लोगों को प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से रोक कर रखा जाता है। आज हम बाइबल में से, बपतिस्मे और प्रभु-भोज के मध्य के सम्बन्ध के बारे में देखेंगे।

       प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने को बपतिस्मे के साथ जोड़ने के लिए बहुधा प्रेरितों 2:41-42 का हवाला दिया जाता है, जहाँ लिखा गया है कि जिन भक्त यहूदियों ने प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास किया, उनके लिए पद 41 में पहले लिखा गया है कि उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया, फिर उसके बाद पद 42 में लिखा गया है कि वे मसीही विश्वास के चार खंबों, जिनमें से एक है रोटी तोड़ना, अर्थात प्रभु भोज, के निर्वाह में लौलीन रहे। लेकिन जो लोग इस लिखे गए क्रम के आधार पर यह करने का तर्क देते हैं, वे इस तथ्य की भी अनदेखी करते हैं कि बाइबल में इसके अतिरिक्त कहीं भी बपतिस्मे और रोटी तोड़ने या प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने को एक साथ नहीं दिखाया गया है। कभी किसी मसीही विश्वासी से यह नहीं कहा गया कि जब वे बपतिस्मा ले लेंगे, तब वह मेज में भी भाग ले सकता है; या यह कि, अब क्योंकि उसने बपतिस्मा ले लिया है इसलिए वह प्रभु भोज में भी भाग ले सकता है। और, न ही कभी किसी से यह पूछा गया कि उसने बपतिस्मा लिए बिना मेज़ में भाग क्यों ले लिया; और न ही किसी से यह पूछा गया कि जब उनका बपतिस्मा हो चुका है, तो फिर वो प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग क्यों नहीं ले रहे हैं?

       अर्थात, कहीं पर भी, किसी भी रूप में बपतिस्मा लेने और मेज में भाग लेने को सम्बन्धित नहीं दिखाया गया है। बाइबल के खण्ड, जैसे के रोमियों 6:3-5, इफिसियों 4:4-16, और इब्रानियों 6:1-2, जिन्हें बपतिस्मे के बारे में शिक्षा देने के लिए बहुधा उपयोग किया जाता है, इनमें भी बपतिस्मे और प्रभु भोज में कही कोई संबंध नहीं दिखाया गया है। इस संदर्भ में, हमें एक अन्य स्थिति के बारे में भी विचार विचार करना चाहिये, की यदि कोई व्यक्ति उद्धार पाता है, प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करता है, परन्तु किसी कारणवश, जैसे कि किसी बीमारी, कोई शारीरिक दुर्बलता, किसी शारीरिक अपंगता, या किसी ऐसे स्थान पर होने जहाँ उस समय पर बप्तिस्मा लेना संभव न हो, होने के कारण, उस समय वह चाहते हुए भी, वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाने के बावजूद भी बप्तिस्मा नहीं ले पा रहा है, तो क्या केवल उसका बप्तिस्मा न होने के कारण, क्या उसे प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होने से रोक देना चाहिये? यदि वह बिना बप्तिस्मा लिये भाग ले सकता है, तो इसका तात्पर्य हुआ कि बप्तिस्मा मेज़ में भाग लेने के लिए अनिवार्य नहीं है; यदि वह भाग नहीं ले सकता है, तो तात्पर्य यह हुआ कि बप्तिस्मा और प्रभु भोज, दोनों केवल औपचारिक धार्मिक रीतियाँ मात्र हैं, जिन का प्रभु के प्रति विश्वास, समर्पण, तथा आज्ञाकारिता से सम्बन्ध नहीं है।

       साथ ही, यदि प्रेरितों 2:41-42 में लिखी बातों का क्रम इतना महत्वपूर्ण है कि उसके आधार पर एक धर्म-सिद्धांत बनाया और पालन करवाया जा सकता है, तो फिर यह क्रम यहाँ लिखी शेष तीन बातों के लिए भी समान रूप प्रासंगिक तथा लागू होना चाहिए। इसलिए, तब तो, जब तक कि एक मसीही विश्वासी का बपतिस्मा न हो जाए, उसे न तो बाइबल अध्ययन में, न संगति रखने, और न प्रार्थना में भाग लेने देना चाहिए, क्योंकि इन सभी का उल्लेख भी बपतिस्मे के बाद ही हुआ है। तो फिर क्यों, उन कलीसियाओं या मण्डलियों में, जिनमें प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने को बपतिस्मे के साथ जोड़ कर प्रतीक्षा करवाई जाती है, नए विश्वासियों को प्रार्थना करने, संगति में आने और बाइबल अध्ययन के लिए कहा तथा प्रोत्साहित किया जाता है? क्या ऐसा करने के द्वारा वे अपने ही तर्क और अपनी ही गढ़ी हुई धारणा के अनुसार बनाए हुए धर्म-सिद्धांत को काट नहीं रहे हैं?

       बात का सीधा सा तथ्य और आधार यही है कि बपतिस्मा, तथा मसीही विश्वास के चारों खम्बे, इन सभी को, नया जन्म पाए हुए विश्वासी के मसीही जीवन का एक अभिन्न अंग होना है। जैसा कि प्रेरितों 2:42 में लिखा हुआ है, मसीही विश्वासियों को इनमें “लौलीन” रहना है, निरंतर और पूरी निष्ठा के साथ इनमें भाग लेते रहना है। कलीसिया तथा विश्वासियों के अगुवों को परमेश्वर के वचन को सिखाने और प्रचार करने की ज़िम्मेदारी तो दी गई है, परन्तु उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों में संशोधन करने, या उसमें अपनी ही धारणाओं और बातों को घुसा देने का अधिकार नहीं दिया गया है। बाइबल इस बारे में बिल्कुल स्पष्ट है कि यदि किसी व्यक्ति ने पापों से पश्चाताप किया है, प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता और प्रभु ग्रहण किया है, प्रभु से पापों की क्षमा माँगी है और प्राप्त की है, तो वह परमेश्वर की संतान है, प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया का सदस्य है, प्रभु यीशु मसीह का शिष्य है; और प्रभु यीशु मसीह में उसके विश्वास के चिह्न और प्रकटीकरण के रूप में, उसे प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने का अधिकार है।

       यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

       यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए – उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

How Soon After Coming To Faith? (4)

 

       In the previous article we had seen that the reason behind the “waiting period” to keep people from partaking of the Lord’s Table are man-made rules and rituals, which have been imposed upon the church congregations; but they are not the teaching of God’s Word. In the traditional and denominational Churches, where infant baptism is practiced, according to their beliefs and understanding, it is essential for a person to be “confirmed” before he can be allowed to participate in the Holy Communion; since, it is only after “confirmation” that a person fully becomes a Christian. Although, there is no such teaching given in the Bible, nor is there any mention or example of any “confirmation” in the Bible. But if not “confirmed,” people are not allowed to partake of the Lord’s Table. Today, we will see from the Bible about the relationship between baptism and the Lord’s Table.

       The association of baptism and partaking in the Lord’s Table is often justified on the basis of Acts 2:41-42, where it is first written in verse 41 that the devout Jews who accepted the Lord Jesus as their savior, were baptized, and after that it is written in verse 42 that they continued steadfastly in the Four Pillars of Christian Faith, one of which is Breaking of Bread, i.e., participating in the Holy Communion. But those who use this sequence of recording of events to justify their concept,  fail to note that nowhere else in the Bible has baptism ever been in any manner mentioned along with the Breaking of Bread, i.e., participating in the Holy Communion. Nowhere was it ever stated by anyone to any of the new Believers that they can participate in the Table after being baptized; or, having been baptized, they can now partake of the Lord’s Table. Neither was any Christian Believer ever questioned why he took part in the Table without having been baptized; nor was anyone questioned why they did not participate, although they had been baptized.

       In other words, no association of any sort between baptism and participating in the Table has ever been mentioned anywhere in the Bible. Even in passages such as Romans 6:3-5, Ephesians 4:4-6, and Hebrews 6:1-2, which are often used to teach about baptism, no association between baptism and Holy Communion has been given. In this context, we also need to think about a situation that if a person is saved, comes to faith in the Lord Jesus, but is not in a condition to be baptised due to sickness, or infirmity, or some physical invalidity, or being in a place where baptism may not immediately be possible etc. – then despite his being Born-Again, and willingness to take baptism, but being unable to be baptized, should the Lord's Table be denied to such a Believer because he has not been baptized? If he can take part in the Table without being baptized, then it implies that baptism is not mandatory for participation; if he is refused, then it implies that both baptism and the Lord’s Table are mere formal religious rituals, not a matter of faith, surrender, and obedience to the Lord.

       Moreover, if the sequence of mentioning various related events in Acts 2:41-42, is so very important that a doctrinal stand can be built upon it, then this principle should be equally relevant and applicable for the other three things mentioned there as well. Therefore, in that case, until a Christian Believer is baptized, he should not be permitted to participate in Bible studies, in gathering for fellowship with other Believers, and saying prayers either, since all of them are mentioned after baptism. Why then, even in those Churches and Assemblies which impose the association of baptism with participation in the Lord’s Table, are the new Believers encouraged to pray, study the Bible and come for fellowship, while they wait to be baptized and be allowed to take the Holy Communion? By doing this are they not contradicting their own logic and their contrived doctrinal stand?

       The basic fact of the matter is that baptism and the Four Pillars of Christian Faith are all meant to be an integral part of a Born-Again Christian Believer’s life. As it says in Acts 2:42, the Christian Believers are to “continue steadfastly”, unceasingly and diligently in them. The Church elders and religious leaders are to preach and teach God’s Word, but they have not been given the authority or responsibility of changing God’s Word, or substituting it with their own fanciful logic and modifications. The Bible is very clear, if a person has repented of sins, accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior, asked for and received the forgiveness of sins from the Lord, then he is a child of God, is a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus, is a disciple of the Lord Jesus; and as an expression of his Faith in the Lord Jesus, he has the right to participate in the Holy Communion.

       If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

       If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.

       किसी न किसी रूप में इस “प्रतीक्षा अवधि” के लागू किए जाने का मुख्य कारण है, धार्मिक अगुवों के द्वारा प्रभु भोज के लेने को बपतिस्मे के साथ जोड़ देना। यद्यपि यह धारणा बाइबल के अनुसार तो नहीं है, किन्तु मसीहियत की पारंपरिक समझ यही है, और लोगों को भी यही मानना सिखाया जाता है कि उद्धार के लिए, तथा मसीही कहलाए जाने के लिए बपतिस्मा अनिवार्य है। हम आज तो बाइबल से इस विवादास्पद धारणा और इसके औचित्य के बारे में कोई चर्चा नहीं करेंगे; यदि परमेश्वर की इच्छा में हुआ तो बाद में कभी इसे देखेंगे। प्रभु भोज के बारे में इस गलत धारणा के पीछे का तर्क यह है कि क्योंकि प्रभु भोज में केवल ईसाई या मसीही ही भाग ले सकते हैं, और क्योंकि जिसका बपतिस्मा नहीं हुआ है वह मसीही नहीं है, कम से कम पूर्ण रीति से तो नहीं, इसलिए उसे प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने की अनुमति नहीं है। पारंपरिक और डिनॉमिनेशनल कलीसियाओं में, जहाँ शिशुओं को “बपतिस्मा” देने का प्रचालन है, उनकी धारणाओं और मान्यताओं के अनुसार “दृढ़ीकरण” की रीति का पालन, व्यक्ति के “मसीही” हो जाने की प्रक्रिया को पूरा कर देता है, इसलिए “दृढ़ीकरण” के बाद ही वह जन प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकता है। लेकिन यहाँ पर एक प्रश्न है, हमने पिछले लेखों में सुसमाचारों में से प्रभु यीशु द्वारा प्रभु भोज को स्थापित करने तथा उसके बाद 1 कुरिन्थियों 17-34 से व्यक्ति को अपने आप को जाँचने और उचित रीति से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के बारे में सीखा है, बाइबल की उन बातों पर ये लोग कितना ध्यान देते हैं, उनका पालन करने के लिए कितने इच्छुक होते हैं? क्या किसी ने कभी विचार किया और प्रश्न उठाया है कि मनुष्यों की बनाई हुई रीति, परमेश्वर के निर्देशों और वचन से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण क्यों और कैसे हो गई? क्या परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों की अवहेलना करके, मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई रीतियों का पालन करने की अनिवार्यता को थोपना बुद्धिमत्ता की बात है? क्या यह परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों का ठट्ठा उड़ाना नहीं है कि एक सच्चे और खरे नए विश्वासी को प्रभु भोज लेने से रोक दिया जाए क्योंकि उसे अभी बपतिस्मा नहीं मिला है; लेकिन उसी सभा में एक ऐसे व्यक्ति को, जिसे सब जानते हैं कि वह एक अधर्मी जीवन जी रहा है, केवल इस आधार पर उसे प्रभु भोज दे दिया जाए, कि उसने उस डिनॉमिनेशन या जिस कलीसिया का वह सदस्य है, उसकी रीतियों और परंपराओं का निर्वाह किया है?

How Soon After Coming To Faith? (3)

 

       In the previous article we have seen that Biblically, there is no instruction or example of any Born-Again Christian Believer being asked to wait for any period of time before partaking in the Lord’s Table, for any reason. But still, this “waiting period” is seen amongst some Churches. Also, there is a modified form in the denominational Churches, where participation in the Holy Communion is permitted only after the youth have received their “Confirmation.” Without receiving this “Confirmation” the youth is neither permitted, nor given the Holy Communion. This, despite the fact that in God’s Word the Bible, there is no mention of this traditional ritual of “Confirmation” and its necessity. It is a purely man-made, unBiblical ritual, that has been imposed upon the congregation, and made mandatory.

       The main reason for this “waiting period”, in one form or the other, is because partaking of the Lord’s Table has been linked by the religious leaders to baptism. Although their concept is not Biblical, but according to the traditional and denominational understanding of Christianity, people have been made to believe that baptism is essential for salvation, and for being considered a “Christian”. We are not going to be discussing the Biblical standing and validity of this contention today; if it is in God’s will, we may take it up later. The flawed logic behind the concept is that since only “Christians” are to partake of the Lord’s Table, and, since the one who is not baptized, is not a Christian, at least not a ‘full-fledged one’, therefore, he is not to be allowed to participate in the Holy Communion. In the traditional and denominational Churches, where infant baptism is practised, according to their beliefs and understanding, it is after fulfilling the ritual of “Confirmation” that a person completes this process of becoming a “Christian.” Therefore, after “Confirmation”, one can participate in the Holy Communion. But then a moot point is, how much importance do they give to what we have seen and learnt from the Gospel accounts about Lord’s establishing the Holy Communion, and to the necessity of a person examining himself and then participating worthily as we have previously seen in our study from 1 Corinthians 17-34? Does anybody bother to ponder and question, why a man-made tradition has been made more important and essential than God’s instructions and Word? Is it at all prudent to disregard God’s Word and instructions, but insist that man-made traditions be followed? Is it not a mockery of God’s Word and instructions that a sincere new Christian Believer might be denied the Holy Communion, since he is not yet baptised; but in that very Communion service the Holy Communion will be given to a person who is known to be living an ungodly life, simply because he has fulfilled the prescribed rituals of his denomination or the Church he attends?

       Even in some of the Churches and Assemblies of the Born-Again Believers, this “waiting period” is seen. Again, because partaking in the Lord’s Table has been associated with baptism, and baptism has been made the precondition to taking part in the Holy Communion. Usually, again as a man-made tradition without any Biblical support for it, baptism is not given immediately after a person comes to faith in the Lord Jesus. But the person is asked to wait, he is put under observation, and after the religious elders of the Church or Assembly are satisfied, they allow the person to be baptized, and then to participate in the Holy Communion.

       We will continue pondering over these things, and considering this question of associating participating in the Lord's Table with baptism, in the next article as well.

       If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन और उसके द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों में प्रभु-भोज में भाग लेने से सम्बन्धित हमारे वर्तमान प्रश्न में कोई असमंजस नहीं है, वचन की शिक्षा बिलकुल स्पष्ट है। जो भी असमंजस है, वह मनुष्यों के द्वारा बनाए गए अपने विभिन्न डिनॉमिनेशन्स, गुटों, और समुदायों, तथा उनके अपने-अपने भिन्न नियमों, विधि-विधानों के कारण है, जिनके पालन को परमेश्वर के वचन के भी ऊपर थोप दिया गया है। इस सन्दर्भ में हमने कुछ बातें प्रेरितों 2:41-42 से देखी थीं। आज हम इसी विषय पर बाइबल से कुछ और बातों को देखेंगे।

    विश्वासियों के तुरन्त ही प्रभु-भोज में भाग लेने की पुष्टि 2:46-47 से भी हो जाती है, जहाँ लिखा है कि जितनों को प्रभु प्रतिदिन उनके साथ जोड़ देता था, वे भी प्रेरितों 2:42 में उल्लेखित मसीही विश्वास के चार खंबों में, अन्य विश्वासियों के साथ समान रीति से भाग लेने लगे, बिना उन पर किसी भी कारण अथवा तर्क के अनुसार कोई प्रतीक्षा की अवधि लागू किए हुए।

    एक बार फिर से, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:17-34 में लिखे गए प्रभु भोज से संबंधित गलतियों को सुधारने के खण्ड पर ध्यान कीजिए। जैसे हमने पिछले लेख में भी इस खण्ड से प्रभु भोज देने के लिए विधिवत निर्धारित पादरी की तथाकथित आवश्यकता के बारे में देखा था, उसी प्रकार से अब ध्यान कीजिए कि क्या यहाँ पर किसी के मसीही विश्वास में होने की किसी अवधि का, किसी भी संदर्भ में, कोई भी उल्लेख है? कदापि नहीं! यहाँ इस प्रकार की किसी बात का न तो उल्लेख है और न ही ऐसा कोई अभिप्राय दिया गया है। उस कलीसिया की गलतियों और उनके विश्वास के जीवन की गंभीर स्थिति के लिए नए मसीही विश्वासियों को ज़िम्मेदार ठहराना बहुत सहज और तर्कपूर्ण होता। किन्तु पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस से ऐसा कुछ नहीं लिखवाता है, और न ही ऐसा कोई संकेत अथवा तात्पर्य भी देता है। न तो यहाँ, कुरिन्थुस की मण्डली को लिखी गई इस पत्री में, और न ही किसी अन्य पत्री में या कहीं और, कभी भी यह कहा गया है कि क्योंकि नए मसीही विश्वासियों को ‘पूर्ण-सदस्यता’ के अधिकार और ज़िम्मेदारियाँ दे दिये गए थे, जिस प्रकार से अन्य परिपक्व और वरीयता प्राप्त मसीहियों के थे, इसलिए मसीही विश्वास और संस्कारों से संबंधित अपनी अपरिपक्वता के कारण उन्होंने मण्डली में समस्याएं खड़ी कर दीं।

    इसलिए, हम निःसंकोच यह निष्कर्ष ले सकते हैं कि नए मसीही विश्वासी के प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के बारे में किसी को भी, कोई भी गलतफहमी नहीं होनी चाहिए। जिस पल से वह अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करता है, उसी पल से प्रत्येक व्यक्ति प्रभु की कलीसिया का सदस्य, परमेश्वर के परिवार का अंग हो जाता है; और उसके भी वही अधिकार और ज़िम्मेदारियाँ होती हैं, जो कलीसिया में तथा परमेश्वर के परिवार में किसी भी अन्य सदस्य की होती हैं। एक नए विश्वासी के लिए जो बात मना की गई है वह है कलीसिया का ‘अध्यक्ष’ होना (1 तीमुथियुस 3:6) - ‘अध्यक्ष या बिशप’ वैसा नहीं जैसा आज हम देखते और समझते हैं, परन्तु उस अभिप्राय से जैसा पौलुस द्वारा लिखे जाने के समय उसका होता था - किसी स्थानीय कलीसिया के कार्यों, ज़िम्मेदारियों, और प्रबंधन की देखभाल करने वाला उस स्थानीय कलीसिया का सदस्य। इसलिए, यह प्रकट है कि परमेश्वर का वचन किसी के लिए भी अपने विश्वास में आने के बाद अपने विश्वास और परमेश्वर के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता की पुष्टि करने के लिए, प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने योग्य होने के लिए, किसी भी समय-अवधि, या प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए नहीं कहता है।

    अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि यह असमंजस कलीसियाओं में क्यों आ गया। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

How Soon After Coming To Faith? (2)

    In the previous article, we had seen that in God’s Word, and in the instructions given by God, there is no confusion regarding our present question about participating in the Lord’s Table; the teaching of God’s Word is very clear. Whatever confusion is there, is because of the various man-made denominations, sects, and groups, and their individual man-made rules and regulations, that have been made mandatory and superimposed over the Word of God. We had seen some things from Acts 2:41-42 in this context, in the last article. Today we will see some other related things from the Bible.

    The validity of the Believer’s immediate participation in the Lord’s Table is further affirmed from 2:46-47, where all those who were added to the Church by the Lord every day, also participated with the others, in the Four Pillars of Christian Faith mentioned in Acts 2:42, without any waiting or delay being imposed on them for any reason whatsoever.

    Consider again, Paul’s corrective discourse in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, given through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we had taken note from this section, in the previous article, about the alleged necessity of an ordained Pastor to administer the Lord’s Table; similarly, now, take note if there is any mention of anyone’s duration of being in faith, in any context, in this passage? No! There is nothing of this sort mentioned or implied. It would have been very convenient and logical to hold the newcomers into Faith responsible for the sorry state of affairs in the Church and for the gross irregularities seen in participating in the Lord’s Table. But the Holy Spirit does not have Paul say this or even remotely imply it in any manner. Neither here in this letter to the Corinthian Church, nor anywhere else, in any of the epistles, is it ever said that since new-comers to the Faith were allowed to participate as ‘full-fledged members’, were immediately conferred all the rights and privileges like the more senior and more mature members, therefore, they created these problems due their immaturity in understanding about the Christian Faith, its sacraments and their observances.

    Therefore, we can safely conclude that no one should have any misunderstandings on this count about a Born-Again Christian Believer participating in the Lord’s Table. From the moment of his repenting of sins and accepting the Lord Jesus as his savior, every person is a part of the Church, a member of God’s family, and has the same rights and privileges as anyone else in the Church and the family of God has. The only thing not permitted for novices in the Faith is the office of Bishop (1 Timothy 3:6) - Bishop, not in the way it is seen and understood nowadays, but as it was seen and understood at the time Paul wrote it – meaning a member of that local Church who also functioned as an overseer of the work, responsibilities, and functioning of that local Church. Therefore, in effect, the Word of God does not prescribe any waiting period, or time for affirming one’s faith and commitment to God, before permitting them participation in the Holy Communion.

    In the next article, we will consider how and why this confusion has come around. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    यहाँ पर जब भक्त यहूदियों ने पतरस द्वारा बताए गए समाधान को जब सुना, और “उसी दिन” उन्होंने जो प्रतिक्रिया दी तथा उन्हें जो प्रतिक्रिया मिली, उसके बारे में कोई असमंजस नहीं है। हमारे स्पष्ट समझने के लिए, इन दो पदों में लिखी इन प्रतिक्रियाओं को, सूचीबद्ध कर लेते हैं:

    * जिन्होंने पतरस के वचन को ग्रहण किया, उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया - विश्वास करने के तुरन्त बाद, यहाँ कोई उल्लेख नहीं है कि उनके विश्वास की पुष्टि करने और स्तर का आँकलन करने के लिए कुछ समय प्रतीक्षा करवाई गई।

    * जिन्होंने विश्वास किया था, वे उनमें, अर्थात प्रभु के शिष्यों में मिल गए – उन्हें तुरन्त ही मसीही विश्वासियों में सम्मिलित कर लिया गया, और वे उस समूह का भाग बन गए।

    * ये नए विश्वासी, मसीही विश्वासियों के समूह में सम्मिलित होने के साथ ही, मसीही विश्वास के चार खंबों, अर्थात प्रेरितों से शिक्षा पाने, संगति रखने, रोटी तोड़ने अर्थात प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होने, और प्रार्थना करने में सम्मिलित होने लगे, लौलीन रहने लगे।

    अगले लेख में हम इस विषय से सम्बन्धित बाइबल के कुछ अन्य अंशों को भी देखेंगे, और निष्कर्ष निकालेंगे।

How Soon After Coming To Faith? (1)

    In considering the questions associated with participating in the Lord’s Table, we have already seen about the frequency of doing so – at least once a week, if not more frequently; and that Biblically there is nothing to support the common belief that it can only be administered by an ordained Pastor – any Born-Again Christian Believer, a committed disciple of the Lord Jesus can do it. Another question that often comes up is, how soon after coming into the Christian faith can the Christian Believer participate in the Holy Communion? Again, God’s Word the Bible is very clear about it, leaving those who read and study it, in no doubt about the answer. But because of denominational rules and regulations made by men in their wisdom, then superimposed upon God’s Word and made mandatory for being obeyed, instead of following what God has given and instructed, confusion and variations have come up amongst the followers of denominations, sects, and groups.

    Let us go back to Peter’s first preaching after he and the other disciples had been empowered by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, and what happened in response to his message. Peter had addressed the “devout Jews” (Acts 2:5), who had gathered in Jerusalem to observe the Feasts prescribed by the Law. As he spoke to them from the Scriptures, these devout Jews were “cut to the heart” and asked Peter what should they do (2:37), since it was apparent to them that their religion, religiosity, observance of the Law, and keeping of the Feasts had not made them acceptable to the Lord God, had not saved them. Peter asks them to repent of their sins and be baptized to receive the promise of God, made for everyone all over the world (2:38-40). Now, let us look at Acts 2:41-42 “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

    There is no confusion here, about what happened when the devout Jews heard Peter’s solution to their predicament. The Biblical text is clear and unambiguous in these verses 41 & 42, about the response of, and towards those Jews, “on that very day”. For our clarity, let us outline their responses, from these two verses:

    * Those who received Peter’s word were baptized – immediately after believing, with no waiting for ascertaining and confirming the status of their faith being mentioned.

    * Those who had believed were “added to them”, i.e., to the Lord’s disciples – they immediately were accepted and became a part of the group of the disciples of the Lord Jesus.

    * These new followers, immediately after being assimilated into the group of followers of the Lord Jesus, also began to steadfastly continue in the Four Pillars of Christian Faith, i.e., learning God’s Word from the Apostles, in Fellowship, in Breaking of Bread i.e., participating in the Holy Communion, and in Prayers.

    In the next article, we will see some other Bible passages about this, and draw our conclusions.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.

       पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि कलीसिया की देखभाल और कार्यों को करने के लिए परमेश्वर ने अपने आज्ञाकारी, समर्पित, और प्रतिबद्ध विश्वासियों में से अगुवे चुने जाने को ठहराया है, और उनके लिए गुण और मानक भी निर्धारित किए हैं। इन गुणों और मानकों में व्यक्ति की शिक्षा अथवा कलीसिया में वरीयता का नहीं, अपितु प्रभु तथा उसकी कलीसिया के प्रति मसीही विश्वासी की प्रतिबद्धता महत्वपूर्ण एवं निर्णायक है। किन्तु औपचारिक धार्मिक शिक्षा तथा विधिवत स्थापना के आधार पर कलीसियाओं में अगुवे और पास्टर होने की नियुक्ति के प्रचलन हो जाने से परमेश्वर के वचन में दिए गए मानकों की प्राथमिकता जाती रही है। इस कारण कलीसियाओं में लोगों पर अधिकार रखने और उन्हें शिक्षाएँ देने के पदों पर बहुधा ऐसे लोग भी आ जाते हैं, जो वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए प्रभु के विश्वासी जन नहीं होते हैं। और उनमें होकर शैतान को बहुत सारी गलत और अनुचित बातों को मसीही समाज में घुसा देने के अवसर एवं माध्यम उपलब्ध हो जाते हैं। आज हम इसी विषय पर परमेश्वर के वचन से कुछ और बातों को देखेंगे।

       हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:17-34 में से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से संबंधित गलतियों के अध्ययन के दौरान, कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों में पाई जाने वाली विभिन्न समस्याओं और गलतियों के बारे में देखा था, जिनके लिए पौलुस ने उन्हें फटकार भी लगाई थी। वे सभी लोग, कलीसिया में भी अपनी ही इच्छा और समझ के अनुसार व्यवहार करने लगे थे, जिसको भी जैसा अच्छा लगता, सहज लगता, वे कर लेते थे। लेकिन हमारे प्रश्न के संदर्भ में हमें जिस बात पर ध्यान देना है वह यह है कि पौलुस ने उनमें कभी प्रभु भोज के बारे में किसी पादरी या कलीसिया के अगुवे के द्वारा उसे लोगों में दिए जाने या नहीं दिए जाने की कोई बात नहीं की; इस विषय के सही अथवा गलत, उचित अथवा अनुचित होने को उठाया ही नहीं। इसलिए हम यह समझ सकते हैं कि प्रभु भोज के किसी कलीसिया के अगुवे ही के द्वारा दिए जाने या न दिए जाने की कोई अनिवार्यता नहीं है, यह व्यर्थ विवाद की बात है।

       जब हम लौट कर पुराने नियम में प्रभु भोज के प्ररूप, फसह पर जाते हैं, हम देख चुके हैं कि यह परमेश्वर की ओर से बाध्य किया गया था कि उसे प्रत्येक परिवार में परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार ही तैयार किया और दिया जाए; किन्तु परमेश्वर ने ऐसा कोई निर्देश नहीं दिया कि परिवार में से कौन उसे सदस्यों को देगा। क्योंकि उस समय तक हारून और उसके घराने को तथा लेवियों को याजक होने के लिए नियुक्त नहीं किया गया था, इसलिए बाद में जब उसे सप्ताह भर मनाए जाने वाले वार्षिक पर्व का रूप दिया गया, तब भी उसके मनाने के लिए कोई विधिवत निर्धारित याजक नहीं थे - प्रत्येक परिवार को ही स्वयं ही इस पर्व को मनाना होता था; और याजक नियुक्त हो जाने के बाद भी इसमें कोई संशोधन अथवा परिवर्तन नहीं किया गया। इसलिए पुराने नियम के इस प्ररूप, फसह से भी प्रभु की मेज़ के केवल एक विधिवत निर्धारित पादरी के द्वारा ही दिए जाने का कोई समर्थन नहीं मिलता है।

       इन सभी बातों के बाद, यदि फिर भी कोई यही मान कर चलता है कि यह अनिवार्य है कि इसे कोई विधिवत निर्धारित पादरी ही दे, तो फिर स्वयं प्रभु परमेश्वर द्वारा याजक नियुक्त किए जाने से बढ़कर किसी की विधिवत नियुक्ति और पहचान क्या होगी? निश्चय ही परमेश्वर की नियुक्ति से बढ़कर या उच्च तो और कोई नियुक्ति हो ही नहीं सकती है। परमेश्वर का वचन कहता है कि परमेश्वर की प्रत्येक संतान, नया-जन्म पाए हुए उसके मसीही विश्वासी उसके याजक हैं (1 पतरस 2:9; प्रकाशितवाक्य 1:6; 5:10)। इसलिए किसी को भी प्रभु भोज को किसी भी प्रतिबद्ध मसीही विश्वासी से लेने में कोई संकोच नहीं होना चाहिए, चाहे उस विश्वासी ने किसी बाइबल कॉलेज या सेमनरी से कोई औपचारिक शिक्षा, डिग्री, और विधिवत नियुक्ति ली हो अथवा नहीं ली हो। यदि स्वयं परमेश्वर ने प्रतिबद्ध मसीही विश्वासियों को अपने याजक स्वीकार कर लिया है, तो क्या किसी मनुष्य को उन्हें अस्वीकार करने का अधिकार है? और यदि वे अस्वीकार करते हैं, तो क्या यह परमेश्वर को तुच्छ जानना नहीं है; क्या उनकी इस धृष्टता के लिए वे परमेश्वर को जवाबदेह नहीं होंगे?

       अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि मसीही विश्वास में आने के कितने समय बाद प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना उचित है। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

Administered Only By An Ordained Pastor? (4)

 

       In the previous article we had seen that God has ordained that to look after and do the works of His Church, people should be appointed from amongst those who are the obedient, surrendered, and committed Believers, based on the criteria He has determined and given for them. In these criteria, we had seen that there is no mention of the educational status and level or of the person’s seniority in the Church; rather, the deciding factor is the person’s commitment towards the Lord and His Church. But, after the criteria of formal religious education and ritual ordination took over as the basis for appointing the elders and pastors in the churches, the primary importance of the God given criteria got lost. Because of this, amongst the churches often people who are not actually the Born—Again Believers in the Lord Jesus get into positions of authority and teaching the congregation. Through such people, Satan gets the opportunity and way to bring in many wrong and inappropriate things into Christianity. Today, we will continue considering some more things from God’s Word about this.

       In our study on the pitfalls in partaking of the Lord’s Table from 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, we have seen various problems and misconceptions prevalent amongst the Corinthian Believers, for which Paul even admonishes them. In the Church, they all were doing things on their own, according to their own understanding, and as suited their convenience and fancy. But the thing for us to note in context of our question is that Paul never mentioned the Lord’s Table being served, or not being served, by a Pastor or Church Elder as an issue of any importance or validity in the Church, an issue that required rectification, as the other issues did. So, we can surmise from this that the Lord’s Table being served or not being served by a Church elder or leader is inconsequential, and cannot be considered a mandatory requirement in the Church.

       When we go back to the Old Testament, to the Passover, the antecedent of the Lord’s Table, we had seen that it was to be prepared and served in the family in a particular manner, in the way instructed and ordained by God; but God did not specify who in the family was to serve it. Since, till the time of the giving of the Passover regulations, the Levites and Aaron’s descendants had not been made the Priests, therefore, later when it was made into a week-long Passover festival, there were still no ‘ordained’ or designated priests to do this - every family had to do it on their own; even after the Priests had been appointed, there was no change in this observance. Therefore, from the Old Testament antecedent, the Passover, no support can be derived for this supposition of the Lord’s Table necessarily being served by an ordained priest.

       In any case, if anyone still thinks it necessary for this to be done only by an ordained Priest or Pastor, then what greater or better ordination and recognition can be there, than the one given by the Lord God Himself. Surely, no other ordination and recognition can be over and above that. God’s Word declares each and every one of His children, all the Born-Again Christian Believers as His Priests (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6; 5:10). So, no one should have any hesitation in receiving the Holy Communion from a committed Christian Believer, whether or not he has received any formal education, degree, and ordination from a Bible College or Seminary. If God has accepted the actual committed Believers as His Priest, does any man have the authority to refuse it? And, if they do, are they not belittling God; and will they not be accountable for their folly?

       In the next article we will consider how long after coming to the Christian Faith can one take part in the Lord’s Table. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.
