परमेश्वर अपने बच्चों के लिए भौतिक समृद्धि किस प्रकार प्रदान करता है?

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में आरंभ से ही जीविका के लिए कार्य करना सिखाया गया है। परमेश्वर ने आदम को बनाया, उसी के लिए अदन की वाटिका लगाई, परन्तु उस वाटिका की देखभाल करने का कार्य आदम को सौंपा (उत्पत्ति 2:8, 15)। इस्राएल ने भी, वाचा की भूमि कनान की जंगल की यात्रा के दौरान, यद्यपि उन चालीस वर्षों में कुछ बोया या काटा नहीं, परन्तु उन्हें प्रति प्रातः उठकर अपने लिए मन्ना एकत्रित करने के लिए परिश्रम करना होता था; यदि वे ऐसा नहीं करते, तो दिन चढ़ने के साथ वह मन्ना जाता रहता था (निर्गमन 16:21)। कनान में पहुँचने का बाद भी, उन्हें उस स्थान को अपना बनाने के लिए युद्ध लड़ने पड़े, और उस उपजाऊ भूमि के लाभ अर्जित करने के लिए उसमें खेती और काम करना पड़ा। इस्राएल के शत्रुओं को पराजित करने के लिए जब परमेश्वर ने उनकी ओर से युद्ध किए तब भी, उन्हें जाकर युद्ध भूमि में पाँति बांधकर उपस्थित होना था (2 इतिहास 20:14-17), और उसके बाद युद्ध की लूट को एकत्रित करने के लिए जाना था (2 इतिहास 20:25)। परमेश्वर के किसी भी जन को आराम से घर बैठने के द्वारा कभी कुछ नहीं मिला, और आलसी होकर बिना कार्य किए परमेश्वर द्वारा उनकी जेबें भरने की प्रतीक्षा करने से भी किसी को कुछ प्राप्त नहीं हुआ है, वह चाहे आत्मिक आशीष हो या भौतिक; उन्हें सदा ही अपनी जीविका कमाने और परिवारों की देखभाल करने के लिए परिश्रम करना पड़ा है – यह हमारे आदि माता-पिता द्वारा किए गए प्रथम पाप की विरासत "और अपने माथे के पसीने की रोटी खाया करेगा " (उत्पत्ति 3:19) का निर्वाह है। स्वयँ प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने भी अपनी सेवकाई आरंभ करने से पहले बढ़ई का कार्य किया था (मरकुस 6:3)। परमेश्वर के पवित्र आत्मा ने हमारे लिए अपने वचन में दर्ज करवा दिया है: " क्योंकि तुम आप जानते हो, कि किस रीति से हमारी सी चाल चलनी चाहिए; क्योंकि हम तुम्हारे बीच में अनुचित चाल न चले। और किसी की रोटी सेंत में न खाई; पर परिश्रम और कष्‍ट से रात दिन काम धन्‍धा करते थे, कि तुम में से किसी पर भार न हो। यह नहीं, कि हमें अधिकार नहीं; पर इसलिये कि अपने आप को तुम्हारे लिये आदर्श ठहराएं, कि तुम हमारी सी चाल चलो। और जब हम तुम्हारे यहां थे, तब भी यह आज्ञा तुम्हें देते थे, कि यदि कोई काम करना न चाहे, तो खाने भी न पाए। हम सुनते हैं, कि कितने लोग तुम्हारे बीच में अनुचित चाल चलते हैं; और कुछ काम नहीं करते, पर औरों के काम में हाथ डाला करते हैं। ऐसों को हम प्रभु यीशु मसीह में आज्ञा देते और समझाते हैं, कि चुपचाप काम कर के अपनी ही रोटी खाया करें।” (2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 3: 7-12)। पौलुस और उसके साथी, यद्यपि उनका प्राथमिक कार्य परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार का प्रचार और प्रसार था, फिर भी वे अपनी जीविका तथा औरों की सहायता के लिए कमाने के लिए परिश्रम करते थे (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:7-10), और यही सभी को भी करना चाहिए। परमेश्वर के वचन में, कार्य करने वालों को निर्देश दिया गया है कि वे विश्वासयोग्यता से कार्य करें, यह मानकर कि वे मनुष्यों के लिए नहीं परन्तु परमेश्वर के लिए कर रहे हैं, और परमेश्वर ही उन्हें उसका प्रतिफल देगा (कुलुस्सियों 3:22-25; 1 पतरस 2:18-21)। इसलिए समृद्ध होने के लिए सबसे पहली बात जो मसीही विश्वासी को पूरी करनी है वह है एक सत्यनिष्ठ, ईमानदार, और उद्यमी व्यक्ति होना, उसे सौंपे गए कार्यों एवं दायित्वों का निर्वाह अपने विश्वास, और अपने प्रभु की गवाही के लिए करना और उससे अपने उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु यीशु मसीह की महिमा करना (1 पतरस 2:12) यह भरोसा रखते हुए कि परमेश्वर उसकी निष्ठा और उद्यम का उचित प्रतिफल, अपने समय और विधि से अवश्य देगा।

दूसरे, जैसा कि पौलुस के जीवन से प्रगट है, अपने सांसारिक कार्यों के अतिरिक्त, हमें परमेश्वर के कार्यों के लिए भी समय और अवसर के खोजी रहना है, ऐसा करना अति आवश्यक है। उसकी प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाई सन्तान के लिए, परमेश्वर ने पहले से ही करने के लिए कुछ-न-कुछ निर्धारित करके रखा हुआ है (इफिसियों 2:10), और उसके अनुसार उन्हें आवश्यक वरदान भी प्रदान किए हैं। इसके लिए वह उपयुक्त अवसर हमारी ओर भेजता है, जिससे परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित हमारी सेवाकाईयों का हम निर्वाह कर सकें। यदि हम जो कार्य परमेश्वर चाहता है कि हम करें, उसके प्रति निश्चित नहीं हैं, तो हमें परमेश्वर से इसके विषय और जानकारी लेने के लिए प्रार्थना में समय बिताना चाहिए। हमारी सेवकाई के कार्यों के लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा जानने का एक संकेत हमारे पास आने वाली सेवकाई के प्रकार के अवसर हो सकते हैं, या वह सेवकाई जो हमें रुचिकर लगती है, या वह जिसे हम देखते हैं कि बहुधा लोग हमें सौंपते हैं। हमें अपने आप को परमेश्वर की सेवकाई के लिए परमेश्वर को, हमारी मण्डली या कलीसिया को, और हमारी संगति को, उपलब्ध करना चाहिए, और हमें परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करते रहना चाहिए कि वह हमें उन दायित्वों में लेकर चले जो वह चाहता है कि हम निभाएं। 3 यूहन्ना 1:2 में लिखा है: “हे प्रिय, मेरी यह प्रार्थना है; कि जैसे तू आत्मिक उन्नति कर रहा है, वैसे ही तू सब बातों मे उन्नति करे, और भला चंगा रहे।” दूसरे शब्दों में, परमेश्वर की कार्यविधि के अनुसार, हमारी भौतिक समृद्धि, हमारी आत्मिक समृद्धि के साथ जुड़ी हुई है। जैसे जैसे हम आत्मिक रीति से समृद्ध होते जाते हैं, हम भौतिक रीति से भी समृद्ध होते जाते हैं। हम जब परमेश्वर के कार्यों के प्रति सजग और उद्यमी होते हैं, परमेश्वर हमारी तथा हमारे परिवारों की देखभाल के प्रति कार्यरत होता है।

तीसरा, हमारे पास अभी जो भी आमदनी है, हमें जो भी मिलता है, वह चाहे कितना भी कम या अधिक हो, हमें उसमें से अपना दशमांश अवश्य देना चाहिए। परमेश्वर ने दशमांश देने के लिए कभी किसी न्यूनतम आय सीमा को निर्धारित नहीं किया, जिसे जो भी मिलता था, उसे उतने में से ही दशमांश देना था। हम परमेश्वर को जितना अधिक देंगे, परमेश्वर उसके अनुपात में उतना अधिक हमें लौटा कर देगा। हम जो भी कमाते हैं, चाहे थोड़ा या बहुत, हमें उसमें से नियमित और ईमानदारी से दशमांश निकालकर चर्च या मण्डली में दे देना चाहिए, न कि उसे अपनी इच्छा अथवा समझ के अनुसार परमेश्वर के नाम में कहीं खर्च कर देना चाहिए। जैसा कि मलाकी  3:10 में लिखा है, हमें उसे परमेश्वर के भवन में लाना और देना है; इसके बाद ही शेष भाग को अपनी आवश्यकताओं के लिए प्रयोग करना चाहिए; और हम स्वयं देखेंगे कि परमेश्वर इसके द्वारा हमें कैसे आशीषित करता है। इस बात का बहुत अच्छा उदाहरण कि कैसे परमेश्वर दशमांश देने के उसके वचन पर विश्वास और पालन करने वालों को आशीषित करता है विलियम कोलगेट का जीवन है, जो विश्वप्रसिद्ध कोलगेट टूथपेस्ट बनाने वाली कंपनी का संस्थापक था: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Colgate)। इसलिए, हमें शैतान को हमारे मनों में यह भय नहीं उत्पन्न करने देना चाहिए कि हम दशमांश देना आर्थिक रीति से बर्दाशत नहीं करने पाएँगे, क्योंकि इस भय के पालन के द्वारा वह हमारी आशीषें हम से चुरा लेता है; वरन, हमें परमेश्वर और उसके वचन पर भरोसा रखते हुए नियमित दशमांश देना चाहिए। बिना पहले बीज बोए कोई भी फसल नहीं काट सकता है; हमारी आशीषों की फसल के लिए हमारे दशमांश ही वे बोया गया बीज हैं – बोए गए बीज की गुणवत्ता और मात्रा ही मिलने वाली फसल की मात्रा और गुणवत्ता को निर्धारित करती है।

चौथा, हमें परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करना और जानना चाहिए कि अपने रोज़गार को और उन्नत बनाने के लिए क्या हमें और अध्ययन या प्रशिक्षण लेना चाहिए कि नहीं। आजकल इंटरनेट के माध्यम से अध्ययन, प्रशिक्षण तथा कार्य करने के अनेकों साधन और अवसर उपलब्ध हैं, जिनका हम सदुपयोग कर सकते हैं, जिससे हम कमा भी सकते, और साथ ही अपने कार्य तथा अपनी आय को बढ़ा भी सकते हैं।

यह सब परमेश्वर की इच्छा और मार्गदर्शन में करने के द्वारा, हम पाएँगे कि किसी प्रकार से हमें यह सब करने के लिए पर्याप्त समय भी मिलेगा, और इसके लिए आवश्यक सामर्थ्य तथा बुद्धिमता भी, जिससे हम न केवल अपना वर्तमान सांसारिक कार्य भी भली भांति करने पाएंगे वरन परमेश्वर के लिए भी उपयोगी रहेंगे, अपने परिवारों की देखभाल भी करने पाएँगे, और आवश्यक अध्ययन या प्रशिक्षण के द्वारा अपनी आय की वृद्धि के लिए व्संसाधन भी जुटा भी सकेंगे। जब यह सब परमेश्वर की इच्छा और मार्गदर्शन में किया जाएगा, तो इन सभी दायित्वों के योग्य निर्वाह के संघर्ष में विजय दिलवाना परमेश्वर का दायित्व होगा; और हमें बस अपने आप को उस युद्ध भूमि में खड़े होकर परमेश्वर के कार्य को देखना होगा और फिर जाकर आशीष को एकत्रित करना होगा।

कठिन समयों में सान्तवना तथा प्रोत्साहन के लिए बाइबल का एक बहुत अच्छा खण्ड है यशायाह 40:27-31 “हे याकूब, तू क्यों कहता है, हे इस्राएल तू क्यों बोलता है, मेरा मार्ग यहोवा से छिपा हुआ है, मेरा परमेश्वर मेरे न्याय की कुछ चिन्ता नहीं करता? क्या तुम नहीं जानते? क्या तुम ने नहीं सुना? यहोवा जो सनातन परमेश्वर और पृथ्वी भर का सृजनहार है, वह न थकता, न श्रमित होता है, उसकी बुद्धि अगम है। वह थके हुए को बल देता है और शक्तिहीन को बहुत सामर्थ देता है। तरूण तो थकते और श्रमित हो जाते हैं, और जवान ठोकर खाकर गिरते हैं; परन्तु जो यहोवा की बाट जोहते हैं, वे नया बल प्राप्त करते जाएंगे, वे उकाबों के समान उड़ेंगे, वे दौड़ेंगे और श्रमित न होंगे, चलेंगे और थकित न होंगे।”

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

How does God provide material prosperity for His children?

The concept of working for a living has been there since the very beginning in God’s Word the Bible. God made Adam, planted the Garden of Eden for him, but gave him the responsibility of working in it and maintaining it (Genesis 2:8, 15). Even Israel, in their wilderness journey to the promised land of Canaan, although they did not sow or reap any harvest during the forty years journey, yet they had to labor every morning to gather their quota of manna; if they failed to do so, it was gone as the day progressed (Exodus 16:21). Once in Canaan, they had to fight to possess the land, and then to cultivate it to receive it's benefits. Even when God fought for Israel to defeat their enemies, they still had to go and position themselves in the battle ground (2 Chronicles 20:14-17), and only then go and gather the loot for themselves (2 Chronicles 20:25). None of Gods people got anything by sitting back at home, or taking it easy and just waiting for God to fill in their pockets, with whether spiritual or physical blessings; they always had to work for their living and maintaining their families - a fulfillment of the legacy "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread" (Genesis 3:19) of the first sin our fore-parents committed. Even the Lord Jesus worked as a carpenter (Mark 6:3) till the time He began His ministry. The Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul has laid it down in Gods Word for us: "For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us. For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread” (2 Thessalonians 3: 7-12). Paul and his companions, although primarily engaged in Gods ministry of spreading the gospel, also worked for a living and for helping others (1 Thessalonians 2:7-10), and so should everybody else. Workers are exhorted in the Word of God to faithfully do their work, as to the Lord and not to men, and God will reward them for it (Colossians 3:22-25; 1 Peter 2:18-21). Hence, the first thing for a Believer to do to be prosperous is to be a sincere, honest, hardworking person, fulfilling his assigned responsibilities so as to be a witness for his faith, for his Lord, and to glorify the savior Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:12) through his work, trusting God to reward his sincerity and hard-work, in God's own time and manner.

Secondly, as is evident from the life of Paul, besides the secular work, we should always be determined to find time and opportunity to engage in God's Work as well – it is of paramount importance. God has already determined something or the other to be done by everyone one of His Born Again children (Ephesians 2:10), and has accordingly given us the required gifts. He sends opportunities our way, appropriate to our God ordained ministries, for us to fulfill. If we are not aware or sure of the work God wants us to do for Him, then we should spend time in praying and inquiring from God about it. An indicator of God's desire for us can be the various spiritual activity opportunities that either often come our way, or we find interesting to do, or others often entrust us with. We should make ourselves available to God, to our Church, and to our fellowship, and should ask God to lead us into the things that He wants us to do. It says in 3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”. In other words, our physical prosperity, in Gods scheme of things, is linked to our spiritual prosperity. As we prosper spiritually, we will also prosper physically. When we take care of God's work, God takes care of us and our family.

Thirdly, we should make it a point to tithe from whatever little we presently have or get. God never set a lower or minimum limit to earnings for tithing. The more we give to God, God returns even more back to us. From whatever we earn, little or much, we should faithfully and regularly tithe and give our tithe portion into the Church, without spending it in the name of God according to our own fancy. We ought to bring and put it into the house of God as it says in Malachi 3:10; only then should we use the rest for our needs; and we will see for ourselves how God blesses us for it. A very good example of how God blesses those who trust Him for His Word of blessing through tithing is the life of William Colgate, the founder of the world famous Colgate toothpaste: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Colgate). Therefore we should not let Satan create an apprehension or fear in our mind about not being able to afford tithing and cheat us out of our blessings; rather, we should trust God and do it regularly. No one can reap a harvest, without first sowing some seed; our tithe is the seed sown for our harvest - the quality and quantity of the seed sown determines the quality and quantity of the harvest we will receive.

Fourthly, we ought to pray to God and ask for His will about studying/training further and thereby improving our job opportunities. Now-a-days there are many online courses and part-time or on-the-job study opportunities, which we can make use of, so as to be earning, as well as improving our work and salary prospects.

By doing these in the guidance and will of God, we will find that somehow we will be able to find the time, strength and wisdom to not only do our present job well, but also do God's work, look after our family, and also study for improving our prospects and do well in the further studies/training. When done in the will and guidance of God, the battle to balance these responsibilities will not be ours but the Lords; we will only have to position ourselves in the battlefield, and then go in to gather the spoils.

A great portion from Gods Word for encouragement in trying times is Isaiah 40:27-31 “Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: "My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God"? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” and I encourage you to claim it for yourself.”

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

मत्ती 25:31-46 के आधार पर, क्या उद्धार कर्मों, अर्थात भले कार्यों के द्वारा है?

इसमें लेशमात्र भी कोई संदेह या अस्पष्टता नहीं है की बाइबल के अनुसार उद्धार केवल परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह ही से है, अन्य किसी रीति से नहीं। उद्धार को किसी भी प्रकार से, कैसे भी भले कार्यो अथवा अच्छे आचरण के द्वारा 'कमाया' नहीं जा सकता है, वरन यह परमेश्वर का उपहार है, जिसे प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा कलवारी के क्रूस पर किए गए कार्य के द्वारा समस्त मानव जाति के लिए सेंतमेंत उपलब्ध करवाया गया है, और उद्धार प्राप्त करने में किसी भी मनुष्य द्वारा किए गए किसी भी कार्य की कोई भी, लेशमात्र भी, भूमिका  नहीं है (इफिसियों 2:1-9, रोमियों 3:27-28)।

परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह से एक बार मिला उद्धार अनन्तकाल के लिए होता है, उसे कभी गंवाया या मिटाया नहीं जा सकता है (यूहन्ना 10:28-29), और उद्धार पाए हुए व्यक्ति अनन्तकाल तक प्रभु परमेश्वर के साथ रहेंगे (यूहन्ना 14:3)। परमेश्वर ने उद्धार पाई हुई अपनी प्रत्येक संतान के करने के लिए पहले ही से कुछ न कुछ कार्य निर्धारित करके रखे हैं (इफिसियों 2:10), और परमेश्वर की इच्छा तथा आशा है की उसकी संतान उन कार्यों को भली-भांति पूर्ण करें; और ऐसा जीवन व्यतीत करें जो उन्हें परमेश्वर से उपहार के रूप में मिले उद्धार को प्रदर्शित करता है और उसकी गवाही देता है, तथा परमेश्वर को महिमा देता है (रोमियों 6:11-14; 12:1-2; 14:7-8; 1 कुरिन्थियों 6:19-20; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:15).

परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित और मसीही विश्वासियों को सौंपे गए कार्यों को परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों के अनुसार किया जाना है। मसीही विश्वासियों के सभी कार्य बहुत बारीकी से उनके स्वीकार्य एवं स्थाई बने रहने वाली गुणवत्ता के लिए जाँचे जाएंगे (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:11-15); उन कार्यों की इसी बने रहने वाली गुणवत्ता के अनुसार विश्वासियों को अनन्तकाल के लिए प्रतिफल दिए जाएंगे। कुछ विश्वासियों को तब पता चलेगा की उनके कोई भी कार्य जांच से सफलतापूर्वक नहीं निकलने पाए हैं, उनके सभी कार्यों को अस्वीकृत करके रद्द कर दिया गया है, और वे अब खाली हाथ रह गए हैं; परन्तु कार्यों के अस्वीकार तथा रद्द हो जाने के बावजूद, उनका उद्धार रद्द नहीं किया गया; वे अभी भी 'उद्धार' पाए हुए हैं, स्वर्ग में प्रभु के साथ हैं, परन्तु अनन्तकाल के लिए खाली हाथ हैं (पद 15)। विश्वासियों के न्याय के समय (1 पतरस 4:17), उनका न्याय उद्धार के लिए उनकी योग्यता की जांच करने या प्रदान करने के लिए नहीं होगी – यह तो सदा के लिए उस एक पल में ही निर्धारित होकर स्थापित हो गया था जिस पल उन्होंने अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण किया था, जब वे पृथ्वी पर जीवित थे। उनके कर्मों के अनुसार उनका न्याय अर्थात, परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के प्रति उनके समर्पण तथा आज्ञाकारिता की गुणवत्ता की जांच मसीही विश्वासियों को उनके अनन्तकाल के लिए दिए जाने वाले प्रतिफलों के लिए होगी। दाख की बारी के स्वामी के दृष्टान्त  (मत्ती 20:1-16) से हम देखते हैं कि उन्हें भी जिन्होंने, औरों की अपेक्षा कम समय तक कार्य किया, परंतु स्वामी की इच्छानुसार किया, उन्हें भी वही पारिश्रमिक मिला जो अन्य सभी को दिया गया। परमेश्वर द्वारा हमें भेजे गए कार्य करने के अवसरों को उपयोग में लाना और उन अवसरों का हम किस रीति से सदुपयोग करते हैं, परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के प्रति हमारे समर्पण का अडिग और संपूर्ण होना, ही हमारे अनन्तकालीन प्रतिफलों को निर्धारित करता है।

मत्ती 25:31-46 में दिया गया दृष्टान्त मसीही विश्वासियों के इसी न्याय के संदर्भ में है – वे परमेश्वर तथा उसके वचन के आज्ञाकारी रहे हैं की नहीं, और परमेश्वर की संतान होने के नाते उनसे जैसी आशा रखी गई थी, उन्होंने वैसे कार्य किए हैं कि नहीं। हम इस दृष्टान्त में देखते हैं कि पद 33 में एक पृथक करना दिखाया गया है – भेड़ों और बकरियों का – ध्यान करें की वे 'भेड़' या 'बकरियां' बने या बनाए नहीं गए, वरन वे पहले से ही 'भेड़' और 'बकरियां' थे; पद 34 और 37 में, प्रभु भेड़ों को "पिता के धन्य" और "धर्मी" कहता है – ये उपनाम भूतकाल में हैं, अर्थात उनका यह स्तर निर्धारित करके उन्हें दिया जा चुका था, उन्हें राजा के समक्ष प्रस्तुत करने से पहले ही से (पद 31-32)। इस पूरे दृष्टान्त में प्रभु कहीं पर भी 'भेड़ों' से यह कहता या संकेत देता नहीं दिखाई देता है कि “मेरे नाम में किए गए भले कार्यों के आधार पर, मैं अब तुम्हें मेरी भेड़ें होने का अधिकार देता हूँ, उद्धार पाने का अधिकार देता हूँ, धर्मी स्वीकार किए जाने का अधिकार देता हूँ, और परमेश्वर के धन्य कहलाए जाने का अधिकार देता हूँ।” ये भेड़ें ही थीं जिन्होंने नए जन्म पाने और उद्धार तथा परमेश्वर के परिवार का सदस्य, धर्मी, और परमेश्वर के धन्य होने के कारण उनमें विद्यमान स्वर्गीय स्वभाव के कारण ऐसे कार्य किए जो उनके स्वर्गीय स्वभाव के अनुरूप थे और उस स्वभाव को प्रदर्शित करते थे जिससे वे 'बकरियों' से पृथक दिखते हैं।  उन बकरियों के पास भी वही अवसर आए किन्तु क्योंकि इनमें वैसा स्वर्गीय स्वभाव तथा गुण नहीं थे, इसलिए उन्होंने कुछ भी स्वर्गीय करने या दिखाने की कोई प्रवृत्ति अथवा इच्छा नहीं प्रदर्शित की। 'भेड़ों' ने उद्धार पाने और परिवर्तित होने से उनमें विद्यमान स्वर्गीय स्वभाव के अनुसार कार्य किए; और उसी प्रकार 'बकरियों' ने अपनी अपरिवर्तित, उद्धार नहीं पाई हुई दशा के अनुसार कार्य किए। उनके कार्यों ने उन्हें 'भेड़' या 'बकरी' नहीं बनाया, परन्तु उनके 'भेड़' अथवा 'बकरी' होने से उन्होंने अपनी उस प्रवृत्ति एवं दृष्टिकोण के अनुसार कार्य किए और दिखाए।

कार्यों ने उद्धार नहीं दिया, वरन उद्धार की दशा ने नया जन्म पाए हुए परिवर्तित लोगों से स्वर्गीय कार्य करवाए। यही बात अन्य सभी भले कार्यों और उद्धार से संबंधित बाइबल के हवालों पर भी लागू होती है।

English Translation

On the basis of Matthew 25:31-46, is Salvation by works i.e. by doing good deeds?

Without any doubt or ambiguity, salvation is by grace and grace alone. It can in no way be ‘earned’ by any good deeds, but is a gift given by God, freely made available to mankind through the accomplished work of Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary, and no human works of any kind have any role whatsoever in the salvation of any person (Ephesians 2:1-9, Romans 3:27-28).

Once saved by God’s grace, we are saved for eternity (John 10:28-29), and the saved ones will be with the Lord God for ever (John 14:3). God has prepared plans, of works to be done by every one of His saved children (Ephesians 2:10), and God expects His children to accomplish them well; and to live in a manner that exhibits and witnesses for the salvation they have received from God, and glorifies Him (Romans 6:11-14; 12:1-2; 14:7-8; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:15).

These God appointed works entrusted to the Believers, are to be done on the basis of God's Word, and God’s instructions. Every Christian Believer's works will eventually be minutely scrutinized for the enduring quality of his works (1 Corinthians 3:11-15); and based on the enduring quality of their works the Believer will receive their rewards for eternity. Some will find that none of their works could pass the scrutiny, all their works were rejected and thrown away, leaving them empty-handed; but their salvation was not rejected; they are still 'saved', are still in heaven with the Lord, but have nothing for their eternity (v.15). At the time of judgment of the Believers (1 Peter 4:17), their judgement will not be for determining or conferring salvation – that has already been decided and settled once and for all at the very moment of their repenting from their sins and accepting Lord Jesus as Saviour, while they lived on earth. Their judgment according to their works i.e. according to the quality of their commitment and obedience to God and to His Word will be to determine the rewards the Believers will receive for their eternity. From the parable of the Owner of the vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16) we see that even those who, though worked for lesser time than the others, but did it as per the master’s instructions, still received the same rewards as everybody else. Our making the most of the opportunities sent our way by God and the manner in which we have utilized those opportunities, the enduring quality of our commitment to God and His Word is what counts for our eternal rewards.

Matthew 25:31-46 is referring to this judgment of the Believers – whether or not they have been obedient to God and His Word, and done the things expected of them as children of God. We see in this parable that in v.33 segregation is done – between the sheep and the goats – here notice that they neither qualified nor failed to become one or the other; but they already were “sheep” and “goats. In vs.34 and 37 the Lord calls the sheep “blessed of my father” and “righteous” – all of these titles are in the past tense i.e. denote a status already accomplished and granted, before their being presented to the King (v.31-32). Nowhere in the parable is the Lord saying or indicating to the sheep that “in recognition of your good deeds done in my name, I am now conferring upon you the status of being my sheep, of obtaining salvation, of being considered righteous, and of being called the blessed of God.” It were the sheep, the righteous, the blessed of God, who by virtue of the heavenly nature imbued in them because of their salvation and being Born Again into the family of God, that did works that demonstrated their heavenly nature and set them apart from the “goats” who despite having similar opportunities had no inclination or desire to exhibit anything heavenly. The “sheep” acted in accordance with their inherent nature due to being saved by faith and regenerated, while the “goats” acted in accordance with their inherent nature due to their unsaved and unregenerate state. Their deeds did not make them “sheep” or “goats”, rather their already being “sheep” and “goats” caused them to live out what already was within them.

Their works did not grant them salvation, but their being saved and Born Again, being regenerated, caused them to behave in heavenly manner. The same applies to all other references and situations in the Bible pertaining to the relationship between works and salvation.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    यह पद यह नहीं सिखा रहा है कि हम जब भी पाप में पड़ें तो अपने आस-पास के लोगों के सामने जाकर उन पापों का वर्णन करें, और हमारे ऐसा करने से उन पापों की क्षमा में सहायता होगी। वरन, इस पद का अभिप्राय है कि घमण्डी या हठधर्मी होने के स्थान पर, हमें नम्र तथा औरों द्वारा सुधारे जाने के प्रति खुले रहना चाहिए; जब भी कोई अन्य हम में कोई कमी या अनुचित बात देखे और उसे हमारे सामने लाए। जब भी हमारे पाप या अपराध हमारे सामने लाए जाते हैं, हमें दीन और नम्र होकर उन्हें स्वीकार (‘मान’) कर लेना वाला होना चाहिए। हमें अन्य मसीही विश्वासियों की प्रार्थनाओं की सहायता लेनी चाहिए कि हम ऐसे नम्र बने रहें, या यदि गलत परिस्थिति में आ गए हैं तो उससे निकाले जाएँ, क्योंकि परमेश्वर के लोगों की प्रार्थनाएं किसी भी परिस्थिति में बचाव और छुटकारे के लिए एक बहुत प्रभावी और कारगार उपाय हैं।

English Translation

Why does James 5:16 command us to "confess our sins to one another"?

    To understand it correctly, James 5:16 should be seen in its context – as a part of the passage from James 5:13-18. When we do so, it becomes apparent that there are two processes mentioned in these verses – physical healing and trespasses or sins. While the healing being mentioned in James 5:16 is a continuation of the thought of healing given in 5:14-15a; the confession of trespasses or sins mentioned in James 5:16 is not for their forgiveness – since, that has already been stated as accomplished in 5:15, prior to asking the confessing to one another in 5:16. The word used here in the original Greek language and translated as ‘confess’ into English, is ‘exomologeo (ex-o-mo-lo-ǰe'-ō)’, and means to acknowledge or (by implication, of assent) agree fully, (Strong’s Bible Dictionary).

    To help us understand it better, we need to keep in mind two other verses related to this thought. These two verses are, first, 1 John 1:8-10, where the apostle John, by using ‘we’, and the present tense ‘have’ (instead of the past tense ‘had’) is saying that everyone – he included, sins, even now; and second, Galatians 6:1-2, where the Apostle Paul is exhorting other Christian Believers to lift up and help in the restoration of those Christian Believers who somehow have fallen into some ‘trespass’ or ‘fault’, i.e. have done something wrong; and those helping should also bear in mind that at some time they too can fall into a similar predicament. These references help us understand and accept the fact that Biblically speaking, even established and mature Christian Believers have a tendency to fall into sin, to commit errors or trespasses, to fall short of expectations or standards of morality expected of them. In other words, nobody is perfect and above reproach, everybody always needs God’s grace, strength and forgiveness to remain honest and true to the Lord, and may at times need to be extricated out of unpleasant situations by the Lord.

    With the above in mind, coming back now to James 5:16, we can surmise that what is being implied in the verse is that “do not be overly righteous, nor be a hypocrite; do not have a ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude, considering yourself over and above everyone else, or others around you. Rather, be humble and have an attitude of accepting and acknowledging that you too can falter and commit sin, therefore ‘confess your trespass to one another’ i.e. maintain an attitude of accepting and acknowledging before others that you too are prone to errors or sin, just as the others are, and you too need the prayers and help of others for your restoration, whenever you fail or fall.”

    This verse is not saying that we need to go and declare our sins and short-comings to people around us, and our doing so will contribute to the forgiveness of those sins. Rather, it means to say that instead of being haughty, we need to remain humble and open to any correction from others; as and when they see some short-coming in us. Whenever our fault or trespass is brought to our notice, we should be gracious and humble enough to accept (‘confess’) it. We should also seek the prayer support of other Believers to keep us that way, or to be delivered from the situation, since the prayers of God’s people are a very effective means of help in any need.

    यद्यपि अय्यूब धर्मी था, फिर भी उसे दुःख क्यों उठाने पड़े?

उत्तर:

    हमें अय्यूब की कहानी को नए नियम के दो पदों के संदर्भ में देखना चाहिए: रोमियों 8:28 “और हम जानते हैं, कि जो लोग परमेश्वर से प्रेम रखते हैं, उन के लिये सब बातें मिलकर भलाई ही को उत्पन्न करती है; अर्थात उन्हीं के लिये जो उस की इच्छा के अनुसार बुलाए हुए हैं”; तथा याकूब 5:11 “देखो, हम धीरज धरने वालों को धन्य कहते हैं: तुम ने अय्यूब के धीरज के विषय में तो सुना ही है, और प्रभु की ओर से जो उसका प्रतिफल हुआ उसे भी जान लिया है, जिस से प्रभु की अत्यन्‍त करूणा और दया प्रगट होती है”। अय्यूब के लिए याकूब 5:11, रोमियों 8:28 की पुष्टि है – शैतान जितने भी दुःख अय्यूब पर लेकर आया, परमेश्वर ने उन सभी को आशीष में परिवर्तित कर दिया, न केवल अय्यूब के लिए वरन उसके मित्रों के लिए भी, जिन्हें अय्यूब में होकर, व्यक्तिगत अविस्मरणीय तथा शिक्षाप्रद अनुभव के द्वारा, परमेश्वर और उसकी धार्मिकता के बारे में सीखने का अवसर मिला।

    अय्यूब की पुस्तक के पहले अध्याय को पढ़ते समय, हमें अय्यूब के बारे में दो बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बातों से अवगत करवाया जाता है। पहली यह कि यद्यपि अय्यूब धर्मी व्यक्ति था (अय्यूब 1:1), इस बात को परमेश्वर ने भी कहा (अय्यूब 1:8; 2:3); किन्तु उसकी धार्मिकता “कर्मों” की धार्मिकता थी (अय्यूब 1:5), जैसा कि उसके मित्र एलिपज़ ने भी कहा (अय्यूब 4:6)। और दूसरी यह कि, अय्यूब द्वारा परमेश्वर का भय मानना, अपने आप को तथा अपने परिवार को हानि से बचाए रखने के लिए अधिक था, न कि परमेश्वर की हस्ती को पहचानते हुए उसकी आराधना करने के भाव से (अय्यूब 3:25)। अय्यूब ने इस बात को स्वीकार किया जब वह औरों की भलाई करने के अपने भले कार्यों का वर्णन कर रहा था, “क्योंकि ईश्वर के प्रताप के कारण मैं ऐसा नहीं कर सकता था, क्योंकि उसकी ओर की विपत्ति के कारण मैं भयभीत हो कर थरथराता था” (अय्यूब 31:23)। अपने कर्मों के कारण, अय्यूब अपनी ही दृष्टि में धर्मी था (अय्यूब 32:1; 34:5) – जो कि उसके लिए एक विनाशक संभावना हो सकती थी। परमेश्वर अय्यूब की इस नश्वर “कर्मों की धार्मिकता” की स्थिति को सुधारना चाहता था, और अय्यूब को सदा काल कि अविनाशी “विश्वास की धार्मिकता” में लाना चाहता था जो कभी नहीं बिगड़ेगी, कभी नहीं घटेगी, और जिसके विरुद्ध शैतान कभी कुछ नहीं कर सकेगा।

    परमेश्वर ने यह सुधार शैतान द्वारा अय्यूब की भक्ति और निष्ठा की परिक्षा करने की इच्छा को प्रयोग करने के द्वारा किया। शैतान के माध्यम से, तथा उसके मित्रों द्वारा उस पर किए जाने वाले दोषारोपण से, परमेश्वर ने होने दिया कि अय्यूब अपने सारे भौतिक संसाधनों, सारी बुद्धिमत्ता, सभी योग्यताओं, और समस्त सांसारिक स्तर से, अर्थात जिन बातों में वह घमण्ड कर सकता था, बिलकुल खाली हो जाए। एक बार जब ऐसा हो गया, तब परमेश्वर ने अय्यूब द्वारा उठाए किसी भी प्रश्न का कोई उत्तर देने, या अपने आप को सही ठहराने, या शैतान को उसे दुःख देने की अनुमति प्रदान करने को सही ठहराने का प्रयास करने की बजाए, परमेश्वर ने अय्यूब को अपनी भव्यता, अपनी अद्भुत सृजनात्मक शक्ति, अपनी अथाह बुद्धिमत्ता और कार्य कुशलाताओं तथा योग्यताओं से, जिनमें होकर वह सारी सृष्टि का नियंत्रण करता है, उसे संचालित करता है, और उस में की प्रत्येक वस्तु और बात की जानकारी रखता और देखभाल करता है अय्यूब को अवगत करवाया। और इस प्रकार से परमेश्वर ने अय्यूब को यह एहसास करवाया कि वास्तविकता में अय्यूब सृष्टि में कितना महत्वहीन है, किन्तु फिर भी परमेश्वर उसे जानता है और उसका ध्यान रखता है, और साथ ही उसे यह एहसास भी करवाया कि अपनी जिस स्व-धार्मिकता में वह गर्व अनुभव कर रहा था और परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के अपने गढ़े हुए प्रयासों के द्वारा जिस स्व-धार्मिकता को बनाए रखने के प्रयासों में वह लगा रहता था, वह कितनी महत्वहीन थी – और ऐसा करने के द्वारा, एक प्रकार से, अय्यूब परमेश्वर का उपयोग अपने स्वार्थ के लिए कर रहा था।

    अब, परमेश्वर की अति-महान हस्ती, उसकी अचूक बुद्धिमत्ता और योग्यताओं के सम्मुख आने पर, तुरंत ही अय्यूब को यह एहसास हो गया कि वह कितना मूर्ख था कि परमेश्वर के सम्मुख अपने कर्मों से धर्मी होने और बने रहने के दावे कर रहा था और इसके लिए परमेश्वर का उपयोग करने के प्रयास कर रहा था। इसलिए तुरंत ही अय्यूब अपने तुच्छ होने को स्वीकार कर लेता है (अय्यूब 40:4-5)। और परमेश्वर जब आगे उससे उत्तर माँगता है तो अय्यूब अपनी मूर्खता को स्वीकार करके पश्चाताप करता है (अय्यूब 42:1-6) – उसे प्रतिफल देने के लिए परमेश्वर उससे यही चाहता था (याकूब 5:11) तथा इसी बात की ओर उसे हांक रहा था। जब अय्यूब ने परमेश्वर के सम्मुख अपनी वास्तविकता को स्वीकार कर लिया, तो परमेश्वर ने उसे क्षमा कर दिया (1 यूहन्ना 1:9), और न केवल अय्यूब की हानि को पूरा कर दिया, वरन उसे पहले से दुगना दे दिया (अय्यूब 42:10) – अय्यूब के लिए रोमियों 8:28 की पूर्ति हुई; साथ ही अय्यूब में होकर अय्यूब के मित्रों को भी धार्मिकता का पाठ सीखने को मिला (अय्यूब 42:7-8)।

    इसलिए, वास्तव में अय्यूब के दुःख, दुःख नहीं थे, वरन वह प्रधान सर्वोत्तम शिल्पकार – प्रभु परमेश्वर, शैतान की योजनाओं के द्वारा, अय्यूब के जीवन के अनुपयोगी भागों को तराश कर हटा रहा था, उसके जीवन के पैने और खुरदरे भागों को घिस कर सपाट कर रहा था, और उसे रगड़ कर अपनी एक उत्कृष्ठ कलाकृति को एक ऐसी दिव्य चमक प्रदान कर रहा था, जिससे अय्यूब को एक ऐसा स्वरूप, स्तर, और सुन्दरता मिले जो सदैव सुरक्षित बनी रहेगी और शैतान अय्यूब के विरुद्ध चाहे जो भी योजना बनाए, वह चमक कभी धूमिल नहीं होगी, तथा साथ ही आने वाले समयों में लोगों को इससे परमेश्वर की धार्मिकता से संबंधित बहुमूल्य आत्मिक पाठ सीखने को मिलेंगे।

English Translation

Purpose of the Sufferings of Job

Question: 

    Why did Job have to suffer, though he was righteous?

Answer:

    We should look at Job’s story in the light of two verses from the New Testament: Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose”; and James 5:11 “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord--that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.”  James 5:11 is a validation of Romans 8:28 for Job – all the troubles that Satan brought upon Job, were eventually turned by God into a blessing, not only for Job but also for his friends, who had the opportunity of learning about God and His righteousness, firsthand, through an unforgettable experience and lesson.

    As we read the first chapter of the Book of Job, we are made aware of two very important things about Job. One is that Job’s righteousness (Job 1:1), though vouched for by God (Job 1:8; 2:3), was actually a righteousness of “works” (Job 1:5), which was also affirmed by his friend Eliphaz (Job 4:6); and second, Job’s fear of God was motivated more from a sense of averting personal harm to him and his family members, than from a sense of actually worshiping God for who God is (Job 3:25). Job himself confesses this while he recounts the good works that he did towards other people, “For destruction from God is a terror to me, And because of His magnificence I cannot endure” (Job 31:23). By virtue of his works, Job was righteous in his own eyes (Job 32:1; 34:5) – a potentially fatal flaw which could have destroyed him through pride. God intended to correct this state of Job’s fallible “righteousness of works”, and bring Job around to the ever-enduring state of “righteousness of faith” that would never falter, never diminish, and against which Satan could never ever have any hold or strength.

    God did this by using Satan’s desire to test Job for his reverence and integrity. Through Satan, and the accusations of his friends, God allowed Job to be emptied of all his physical resources, wisdom, capabilities, and temporal status, in which he could have gloried or boasted. Once that had been done, instead of answering any of the questions that Job had asked about his woes, or said for justifying Himself God before, or raised about God's allowing Satan to trouble Job, God confronted Job with His magnificence and creative power, with God’s unfathomable wisdom, and abilities, whereby He governs, regulates, and takes care of everything in the whole of universe. Thereby God brought Job to the realization that despite Job’s insignificance in the universe he was still personally and intimately known by and cared for by God. God also brought Job to the realization of the worthlessness of the righteousness which Job gloried in and tried to maintain and protect through his attempts to appease God – in a sense, Job had been trying to manipulate and use God to serve his selfish ends.

    Now, having come to realize God’s stature, irreproachable wisdom and abilities, Job immediately realizes how foolish he was to claim any righteousness of his own through his works and his trying to use God for the same. Job therefore immediately confesses his being vile (Job 40:4-5). And as God continues to further confront him, Job confesses his foolishness and repents (Job 42:1-6) – the very thing that God had intended (James 5:11) and had been driving him to. As Job acknowledges his actual status before God and repents for it, God forgives him (1 John 1:9), and not only restores Job’s losses, but gives him twice as much (Job 42:10) – Romans 8:28 realized for Job; and through Job gives a lesson in righteousness to Job’s friends as well (Job 42:7-8).

    So, in fact, Job’s woes were not actually woes, but the Master Craftsman – the Lord God, through the ploys of Satan, was chiseling away the redundant bits, rubbing off the sharp and abrasive parts, and polishing to a glorious shine one of His masterpieces, to give Job a form, stature, and beauty that would ever remain secure and would never be tarnished by anything that Satan may have planned against Job, and would also serve to teach rich spiritual lessons to God’s children down the ages.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

न्यायियो 8:27 – "उनका गिदोन ने एक एपोद बनवाकर अपने ओप्रा नाम नगर में रखा; और सब इस्राएल वहां व्यभिचारिणी के समान उसके पीछे हो लिया, और वह गिदोन और उसके घराने के लिये फन्दा ठहरा।" परमेश्वर ने इस्राएलियों को उनके सताने वालों पर गिदोन के नेतृत्व में एक अद्भुत और अप्रत्याशित विजय दिलवाई थी। इस अद्भुत विजय के स्मारक के रूप में गिदोन ने वह एपोद 'अपने नगर' ओपरा में स्थापित किया। परन्तु परमेश्वर का वचन यह भी बताता है कि वह एपोद गिदोन और उसके घराने के लिए फंदा बन गया।

इस पद से ऊपर के पदों (पद 22-26) से हम देखते हैं कि गिदोन का इस्राएलियों पर प्रभुत्व अथवा नेतृत्व का कोई इरादा नहीं था। वह इस अद्भुत विजय के लिए सारा आदर और महिमा परमेश्वर यहोवा ही को देना चाहता था। उस विजय से मिली लूट में से लेकर उसने स्मारक बनवाना चाहा, वह भी लोगों द्वारा स्वेच्छा से दिए गए लूट के भाग के प्रयोग के द्वारा। गिदोन ने कोई मूर्ति या अन्यजातियों के किसी देवी-देवताओं की मूर्ति अथवा चिन्ह के द्वारा नहीं, वरन एक एपोद के द्वारा यह करना चाहा। एपोद परमेश्वर के तम्बू में सेवकाई करते समय याजकों द्वारा पहने जाने वाले विशेष वस्त्र का एक भाग होता था (निर्गमन 28:4-8), और इसे परमेश्वर की इच्छा जानने के लिए भी प्रयोग किया जाता था (1 शमूएल 30:7-8)। अतः हम देखते हैं कि किसी भी प्रकार से परमेश्वर के विमुख जाने का गिदोन का कोई इरादा नहीं था। उसकी गलती बस इतनी थी कि उसने यह कार्य, चाहे परमेश्वर को आदर और महिमा देने ही के लिए, किन्तु परमेश्वर से पूछे बिना या परमेश्वर से निर्देश पाए बिना, अपनी बुद्धि और समझ के आधार पर, जैसा उसे सही और अच्छा लगा, उसने कर दिया।

फिर हम नीचे, पद 33, 34 में देखते हैं कि कुछ समय पश्चात, गिदोन के देहांत के बाद, इस्राएलियों ने परमेश्वर को छोड़ कर अन्य देवी-देवताओं के पीछे चलना आरंभ कर दिया। पद 27 का अभिप्राय संकेत करता है कि इस्राएलियों की इस मूर्तिपूजा और परमेश्वर के स्थान पर अन्य देवी-देवताओं के पीछे हो लेने के समय में उन्होंने गिदोन के जीवित रहते हुए भी, गिदोन द्वारा बनवाए गए उस स्मारक को भी देवता समान उपासना के लिए प्रयोग करना आरंभ कर दिया, जिससे "वह गिदोन और उसके घराने के लिये फन्दा ठहरा।"

यह उदाहरण दिखता है कि शैतान, हमारे द्वारा बात को जाने-पहचाने बिना, हमारे अच्छे और परमेश्वर को आदर देने के अभिप्राय से रखे गए उद्देश्यों को भी लोगों को बहकाने और परमेश्वर के विमुख कर देने के लिए प्रयोग कर सकता है, जो फिर हमारे तथा औरों लिए आशीष का नहीं वरन ठोकर का और पाप में गिरने कारण बन सकता है। परमेश्वर की आराधना, उपासना और आदर के लिए जो कुछ आवश्यक है, परमेश्वर ने वह अपने वचन में पहले से, उससे संबंधित विवरण तथा निर्देशों के साथ लिखवा रखा है। परमेश्वर द्वारा उस लिखवाए गए के अतिरिक्त जो कुछ भी है, वह परमेश्वर से नहीं है; परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं है, और उसे चाहे जितनी श्रद्धा से माना या मनाया जाए वह, स्वयं प्रभु यीशु के शब्दों में, “व्यर्थ उपासना” (मत्ती 15:9), अर्थात निरुद्देश्य एवँ निष्फल उपासना है, या “कुकर्म” है (मत्ती 7:21-23)। इसीलिए, मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि किसी भी बात में अपनी बुद्धि और समझ का सहारा कभी न लें, विशेषकर आराधना तथा उपासना से संबंधित बातों में तो कतई नहीं, परंतु हर बात के लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा जानकर उसके अनुसार ही कार्य करें (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21); कहीं आज की हमारी कोई बात, कल हमारी ही संतानों के लिए परेशानियाँ न खड़ी कर दे। परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के लिए हमें केवल परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखकर उसका पालन करना है (1 शमूएल 15:22), न कि परमेश्वर को आदर और आराधना के लिए अपने ही मनगढ़ंत तरीके बना कर उन्हें मानना या मनवाना है, जो फिर हमारे अपने तथा औरों के लिए फंदा बन जाएँ जैसा गिदोन के एपोद के द्वारा हुआ।

English Translation

How Did Gideon's Ephod Become an Inadvertent Snare?

    It says in Judges 8:27 – "Then Gideon made it into an ephod and set it up in his city, Ophrah. And all Israel played the harlot with it there. It became a snare to Gideon and to his house" God had given an extraordinary and absolutely unexpected victory to the Israelites over their oppressors through Gideon. As a memorial of his gratefulness towards the Lord, Gideon made an ephod and placed it in his home town, Ophrah. But God's Word the Bible tells us that instead, it became a snare for Gideon and his family.

    From the proceeding verses (22-26) we see that Gideon had no intentions of taking any leadership role amongst the Israelites. He wanted to give all the honor and glory to God for this marvelous victory. From the spoils of this war he wanted to set up a memorial to glorify God, that too from the voluntary portions given by the people. Gideon had no intentions of using any idol or representations of pagan gods as a memorial; rather, he wanted to do this through an ephod. An ephod was a part of the unique dress worn by the priests in the service of God's Tabernacle (Exodus 28:4-8) and it was also used to find God’s will (1 Samuel 30:7-8). Thus we see that Gideon had no intention of going contrary to God in any manner in his desire to set up a memorial honoring God. His only mistake was that although he wanted to do this to honor and glorify God, but he did it according to his own wisdom, understanding, and desire, without asking God about it and without receiving any instructions about it from God; he went ahead and did whatever seemed right and good to him according to his own understanding and desire.

    We see subsequently in, verses 33, 34 that after some time, after Gideon had passed away, the Israelites turned away from God and started following pagan gods again. It seems from verse 27 even while Gideon was alive, they started venerating the memorial set up by Gideon, using it as one of the objects of worship amongst others they had adopted from the gentile deities; because of which “It became a snare to Gideon and to his house.”

    This example shows that Satan, without our knowing about it or realizing it, can use our good and God honoring intentions to entice people away from God and make them fall into false worship, which can then become a cause for stumbling, and falling into sin, instead of being a blessing. Whatever is necessary and required for worshiping and honoring God, God has already got it recorded along with the necessary instructions in His Word. Whatever else is there besides that which God has had recorded, is not from God; it is not in God’s will, and no matter how reverently it may be believed in and observed, it is, in Lord Jesus’s own words a “vain worship” (Matthew 15:9), i.e. an inconsequential and fruitless worship, or even an act of “iniquity” (Matthew 7:21-23). Therefore it is essential for Christian Believers to not rely upon their own wisdom and understanding and act on assumptions in things related to God, more so in things related to worshiping and glorifying God, but to first seek God's will and only then act accordingly (1 Thessalonians 5:21); lest something we do today, creates problems for our children and subsequent generations. All that is required to honor and glorify God, has already been given to us by Him in His Word. To please God, we only need to learn His Word and obey it (1 Samuel 15:22), instead of devising our own assumed ways and methods of worshiping and glorifying God, and creating problems for ourselves and others, as happened through Gideon's ephod.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
