मृत्यु के प्रति सही मसीही रवैया क्या है?

    सामान्यतः संसार के सभी लोगों में, वे चाहे किसी भी धर्म अथवा मान्यता के हों, मृत्यु के प्रति एक भय का रवैया देखा जाता है। लोग मृत्यु के बारे में बात नहीं करना चाहते हैं, अनिश्चित होते हैं, जितना संभव हो सके मृत्यु को टालना चाहते हैं। नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी भी सामान्यतः यही रवैया रखते हैं, यद्यपि उनके प्रचार और शिक्षाओं में एक भिन्न ही बात कही जाती है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह के पुनरुत्थान ने प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को इस बात का आश्वासन दिया है कि उनके लिए मृत्यु जीवन का अन्त नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल की शिक्षा है कि जो प्रभु में हैं, वे एक दिन उसके साथ, उसके समान जी भी उठेंगे (यूहन्ना 11:25-26; 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:19-22; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 4:13-18); और शारीरिक मृत्यु के बाद का मसीह यीशु के साथ का जीवन इस पृथ्वी के जीवन से कहीं अधिक भला है (यशायाह 57:1; फिलिप्पियों 1:23; प्रकाशितवाक्य 7:14-17)। प्रभु यीशु ने हमारे लिए मृत्यु सहन कर के न केवल हमें पापों से क्षमा दी और हमारा मेल-मिलाप परमेश्वर से करवाया है (रोमियों 5:8-11), वरन शैतान की मृत्यु की ताकत को भी हमेशा के लिए तोड़ दिया है और अपने विश्वासियों को मृत्यु के भय से छुड़ा लिया है (इब्रानियों 2:14-15)। लेकिन फिर भी एक आम मसीही विश्वासी मृत्यु को लेकर संसार के अन्य लोगों के समान ही रवैया रखता है, और मृत्यु से डरता है।

    एक नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, संसार के लोगों के समान मृत्यु से डरने और संसार के लोगों के समान उससे बचने के प्रयास और उपाय करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है, किन्तु साथ ही उसे मृत्यु को लेकर मूर्खतापूर्ण व्यवहार और रवैया भी नहीं रखना चाहिए। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे प्रदान की गई आयु को इस प्रकार से पूरा जीना चाहिए कि उसके जीवन से परमेश्वर की महिमा हो तथा मसीह यीशु में लाए गए विश्वास के द्वारा पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के सुसमाचार का भी प्रचार और प्रसार हो। उसके किसी भी कार्य अथवा व्यवहार लोगों को, विशेष कर अविश्वासी लोगों को, प्रभु के पीछे चलने के प्रति कदापि कोई संदेह नहीं करना चाहिए, अथवा पीछे नहीं हटना चाहिए। इस सिद्धान्त का एक उत्तम उदाहरण है शैतान द्वारा की गई प्रभु यीशु की दूसरी परीक्षा (मत्ती 4:5-7), जिस में शैतान प्रभु से कहता है कि वह अपने आप को मन्दिर की चोटी से गिरा दे। यदि प्रभु यीशु ने यह किया होता, तो निश्चय ही उसे शारीरिक रीति से न तो कोई चोट लगती और न ही कोई हानि होती; किन्तु उसके इस कार्य के कारण उसके बारे में लोगों पर क्या प्रभाव पड़ता, और लोग उसकी मानसिक स्थिति, विचार और व्यवहार आदि के बारे में क्या सोचते? उसके ऐसा करने के बाद कितने लोग  उसके पीछे चलने और उसे उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार करने के इच्छुक होते?

    मसीही विश्वासियों में भी संसार के लोगों के समान ही मृत्यु का भय देखे जाने का एक और कारण है कि हर कोई जो अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहता है, वह बाइबल की परिभाषा के अनुसार (प्रेरितों 11:26) वास्तव में, मसीही विश्वासी नहीं होता है, अर्थात मसीह यीशु का सच्चा और पूर्णतः समर्पित शिष्य जो प्रभु और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता को अपने जीवन में प्रथम स्थान देता है। क्योंकि ये लोग वास्तव में वे नहीं होते हैं, जिन्हें बाइबल मसीही कहती है, इसलिए मसीही विश्वासी के सभी गुण और व्यवहार भी उनके जीवनों में दिखाई नहीं देते हैं। किन्तु क्योंकि ये लोग अपने आप को मसीही कहते हैं, इसलिए उनके जीवन, कार्य, और व्यवहार के कारण बहुत से लोग मसीह यीशु और मसीही जीवन के लिए ठोकर खाते हैं। इस प्रकार के लोग, अपने उद्धार के लिए अनिश्चित होते हैं और प्रभु के सामने न्याय के लिए खड़े होने और अपने जीवन का हिसाब देने से डरते हैं, और अपने अन्दर मृत्यु और उसके बाद होने वाली बातों के प्रति वही भय रखते हैं जो संसार का कोई भी व्यक्ति सामान्यतः रखता है।

    एक तीसरा प्रमुख कारण हो सकता है ‘अनजाने का भय।’ यह सच है कि उन मसीही विश्वासियों ने मृत्यु के बाद स्वर्ग में प्रभु परमेश्वर के साथ परम-आनन्द में होने के बारे में पढ़ा, सुना, और सीखा है; किन्तु उन्होंने इस सत्य को अपने जीवन में लागू नहीं किया है; मृत्यु के बाद की स्थिति अभी भी उनके लिए एक अनजानी सी बात है, इसलिए वे उस ‘अनजाने’ से डरते हैं, उसका सामना करना नहीं चाहते हैं। इसे एक उदाहरण के दवा समझिए – किसी इलाज के लिए सुई या इंजेक्शन लगवाना। अधिकांश लोग, वयस्क भी, सुई लगवाने से बहुत डरते हैं। यद्यपि उन्होंने इसके बारे में पढ़ा और सुना होगा, कई बार देखा भी होगा, तथा साथ ही उनके दोस्त-रिश्तेदार और सुई लगाने वाले भी उन्हें समझाते और आश्वस्त करते हैं कि यह उतनी पीड़ादायक बात नहीं है जितनी कि वे समझ रहे हैं; लेकिन फिर भी सुई लगवाते समय बहुत से लोग बच्चों के समान व्यवहार करते हैं, मानो कोई बहुत भारी कष्टदायक कार्य होने वाला है। चाहे सुई लग जाने के बाद वे यह मान लें कि जितना उन्होंने सोचा था, यह उतना पीड़ादायक कदापि नहीं था। उसी प्रकार से मृत्यु के बाद की स्थिति के बारे में जानकारी रखने वाले भी कई बार बाइबल के तथ्यों पर कम और पानी कल्पनाओं तथा औरों से सूनी-सुनाई बातों पर अधिक भरोसा करते हैं, जो उनके व्यवहार से दिखाई देता है।

    मसीही विश्वासी के मृत्यु के प्रति भय का दृष्टिकोण रखने का एक चौथा कारण हो सकता है कि यद्यपि वे वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी हैं, लेकिन अभी भी वे प्रभु के सामने खड़े होकर अपने जीवन का हिसाब देने के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं। उनके जीवन में अभी भी ऐसी बातें हैं जिन्हें प्रभु पसंद नहीं करता है, और उनके कारण वे प्रभु के सामने आने से कतराते हैं। और इसीलिए, जब तक संभव हो वह इस घड़ी को, संसार के अन्य लोगों के समान ही, टालते रहना चाहते हैं, क्योंकि वे यह जानते हैं कि हिसाब तो लिया जाएगा,और उन्हें देना भी होगा।

    लेकिन नया जन्म पाए हुए वे मसीही विश्वासी जो प्रभु परमेश्वर तथा उसके वचन पर पूरा भरोसा रखते हैं, तथा अपने आप को कभी भी प्रभु के पास बुलाए जाने के लिए तैयार बनाए रखते हैं, वे मृत्यु से नहीं डरते हैं। वे मृत्यु के शीघ्रता से आने के लिए कार्य नहीं करते हैं, किन्तु जब आएगी, तो उसे स्वीकार करने से भी नहीं घबराते हैं।

English Translation

What is a proper Christian Attitude towards death?

    Generally speaking, all kinds of people all over the world, whichever religion or belief they may be following, have an attitude of fear towards death. People don't like to talk about death, are uncertain and apprehensive about it, and try to postpone death as much as they possibly can. The Born-Again Christian Believers too often have a similar attitude, although in their preaching and teaching they are taught something much different from this. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus has assured every Christian Believer that death is not the end of life for them. It is the teaching of the God's Word, the Bible, that those who are in Christ, one day they too will be resurrected like the Lord Jesus (John 11:25-26; 1 Corinthians 15:19-22; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18); and the life after physical death is far better than the life on this earth (Isaiah 57:1; Philippians 1:23; Revelation 7:14-17). By suffering death for us, the Lord Jesus has not only provided us forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God (Romans 5:8-11), but also has forever broken the bondage of Satan that he exercised through the fear of death, and has delivered His Believers from it (Hebrews 2:14-15). But still, an average Christian Believer exhibits an attitude similar to the people of the world regarding death, and is afraid of facing it.

    A truly Born-Again Christian Believer, has no reason to fear and make efforts to avoid death as the people of the world do; but neither should he be foolhardy about death.  He should take every precaution to fulfill his God-given life span in a manner that not only glorifies God but also witnesses for God and for salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. None of his actions or way of life should make others, especially non-believers, step back or step away from following Christ. We see this well illustrated in the second temptation of Christ by Satan (Matthew 4:5-7), where Satan asks Christ to throw Himself down from the pinnacle of the temple. For sure, had the Lord Jesus thrown Himself down, He wouldn’t have suffered any physical hurt or injury; but what impression would it have conveyed to the crowd about His mental stability, thinking, and behavior? How many would have liked to follow Him, had he done that?

    Another major factor because of which fear of death is seen amongst the Christian Believers is that all those who call themselves Christians are not really Christians, as defined by the Bible (Acts 11:26), i.e., true, committed disciples of the Lord Jesus who accord Him the primary place and obedience in their lives. Since they are not the people that the Bible actually calls Christians, therefore, all attributes and characteristics of being a Christian are also not evident in their lives. Yet, because they call themselves Christians, therefore many are made to stumble about Lord Jesus and are misled about Christian Faith and living, by their lives. Within themselves they are apprehensive of and unsure of their salvation, of being able to stand before the Lord and give an account of their lives; therefore, it is only natural and expected that they would be afraid of death and what follows after that.

    A third factor can be the fear of the unknown. Yes, theoretically they have learned, read, and known about going to heaven and being in bliss with the Lord, once their life on earth comes to an end. But they have not yet applied this truth in their lives; they still have the fear of the unknown, what will actually happen once they die, and so they remain afraid of death. Understand it through an example - of having to take an injection for some treatment. Most people, even adults, are terrified of taking an injection. Although they may have read, heard, seen many times that it is actually not as painful a thing as they imagine it to be; and those giving them the injection, as well as their relatives or friends may be saying the same to them at the time they have to receive the injection. But still, many throw tantrums and behave as if it is like torturing them, or that some great harm is being done to them. Although after it is done, they will admit that the experience wasn’t as painful as they had imagined it would be. Similarly, many are afraid of death, because of their own imaginations or things they may have heard from others, and that is then seen in their behavior.

    A fourth reason can be that though they are Born-Again Christian Believers, they are not really prepared and ready to face the Lord and give an account of their lives to Him. There are still things in their lives that are not pleasing to the Lord, and they don't want to face the Lord while those things are in them. Therefore, they want to postpone it till as far as they possibly can, and remain afraid of death, knowing that accountability will follow.

    But the truly Born-Again Christian Believers, who trust the Lord and His Word, who live in submission and obedience to Him, always keep themselves prepared and ready to be called home to the Lord, whenever he decides to do so, and are not afraid of dying. Though they will not hasten death for themselves, they will also not be afraid of embracing it, as and when it comes.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    गलतियों 3:11 “पर यह बात प्रगट है, कि व्यवस्था के द्वारा परमेश्वर के यहां कोई धर्मी नहीं ठहरता क्योंकि धर्मी जन विश्वास से जीवित रहेगा।”

    इब्रानियों 10:1 “क्योंकि व्यवस्था जिस में आने वाली अच्छी वस्तुओं का प्रतिबिम्ब है, पर उन का असली स्वरूप नहीं, इसलिये उन एक ही प्रकार के बलिदानों के द्वारा, जो प्रति वर्ष अचूक चढ़ाए जाते हैं, पास आने वालों को कदापि सिद्ध नहीं कर सकतीं।”

    इसलिए यह प्रकट है कि यहेजकेल 33:12 में कुछ गलत अथवा विश्वास द्वारा ही बचाए जाने के विरोध में, या कर्मों द्वारा धर्मी ठहरने और उद्धार पाने को नहीं कहा गया है, क्योंकि किसी की भी कर्मों की धार्मिकता उसे कभी भी बचा नहीं सकती है, चाहे पुराने नियम के समय में हो अथवा नए नियम के समय में।

English Translation

Does Ezekiel 33:12 suggest righteousness and being saved by works?

    Those who believe in righteousness and salvation by works, quote Ezekiel 33:12 – “Therefore you, O son of man, say to the children of your people: 'The righteousness of the righteous man shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall because of it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; nor shall the righteous be able to live because of his righteousness in the day that he sins'” in support of their stand. Remember, this was written before the Lord Jesus atoned for our sins through His sacrifice. Therefore, the context of this verse is righteousness as the Israelites understood it then - righteousness through the Law, i.e., the righteousness of works.

    But even then, this righteousness of works of the Law never saved anyone, as is evident from the account of Hebrews 11 - the chapter of the Old Testament heroes of faith. Take note that each and every one mentioned in Hebrews 11 was saved, made acceptable to God only by their faith, not by any works of the Law or any other form of righteousness.

    Take Job, as another example from the Old Testament. Job was declared righteous by God twice (Job 1:1, 8; 2:3), but his righteousness was the righteousness of works (Job 1:5), and as God has said, it was in a comparative sense, in contrast to the other people of the world; i.e., it was not the perfect righteousness. But eventually when he is confronted by God and comes to realize his own actual state in contrast to God’s majesty and holiness, this very Job, who kept justifying himself and his righteousness before his friends throughout the book, repents and prostrates himself before God, abhorring himself (Job 40:3-5; 42:1-6). God had now brought him out of the fallible and vain righteousness of works, into the infallible and eternal righteousness of repentance and faith; and that was God’s intended purpose in letting Job suffer (James 5:11).

    In other words, even for the Old Testament times, no one would be saved by fulfilling the Law, or through any kind of works of righteousness, but only through faith. In fact, in the Old Testament itself, God told the Israelites and had it written that their righteousness is not their observing the Law, but by being in the Lord, since the Lord Himself was their righteousness: “In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” (Jeremiah 23:6); and, “In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely. And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” (Jeremiah 33:16).

    This was affirmed again in the New Testament:

    Romans 3:20 “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

    Galatians 3:11 “But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith."

    Hebrews 10:1 “For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.”

    Therefore, it is quite evident that there is nothing wrong or contradictory in Ezekiel 33:12, since no one's righteousness of the Law or of works could save them in any case, whether in the Old Testament or the New Testament times.

    प्रायः मत्ती 24:13 और मरकुस 13:13 से यह अभिप्राय लिया, समझा, और सिखाया जाता है कि व्यक्ति द्वारा परीक्षा में सहते रहने और धीरज धरे रहने वह उद्धार पाने के योग्य माना जाता है। इस बात का फिर यह तात्पर्य निकलता है कि व्यक्ति का उद्धार उसके कर्मों पर निर्भर करता है। किन्तु यह कहना तो बाइबल के इस आधारभूत सिद्धान्त और शिक्षा के विरुद्ध जाता है कि उद्धार केवल मसीह यीशु पर लाए गए विश्वास के आधार पर परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह के द्वारा है, अन्य किसी भी प्रकार के कर्मों के कारण नहीं।

    हम इन दोनों पदों के पीछे के विचार को मत्ती रचित सुसमाचार के दो खण्डों के द्वारा समझ सकते हैं। पहला खण्ड है मत्ती 13:24-30 – अच्छे और बुरे बीज का दृष्टान्त; और दूसरा खण्ड है मत्ती 3:11-12 – यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले के द्वारा लोगों को आने वाले मसीहा, प्रभु यीशु का परिचय।

    लोग अपनी धार्मिकता, कार्यों, प्रचार, और बाहरी स्वरूप आदि के द्वारा हमें धोखा दे सकते हैं लेकिन वे कभी भी प्रभु को धोखा नहीं देने पाएँगे, और न ही अपने ही बनाए हुए तरीकों और बातों से उसे स्वीकार्य होने पाएँगे, अथवा उसके समीप आने पाएँगे। परमेश्वर तक पहुँचने का एकमात्र मार्ग प्रभु यीशु मसीह है (यूहन्ना 14:6; प्रेरितों 4:12)। इसीलिए पौलुस 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:5 में किसी भी व्यक्ति के उद्धार की दशा के विषय धैर्य रखने और जल्दबाजी में कोई भी निर्णय नहीं करने के लिए लिखता है। प्रभु परमेश्वर का न्याय सिद्ध और निष्पक्ष है, उसकी कोई आलोचना नहीं हो सकती है, उसे ही अपने समय में प्रत्येक की वास्तविक दशा को प्रकट करने दें। इन कठिनाइयों, क्लेषों, और परीक्षाओं में से होकर निकलने वालों में से कौन प्रभु के जन हैं, और कौन नहीं, प्रभु को पहले से ही पता है। किसी के भी कोई भी कर्म उसे प्रभु का जन नहीं बनाते हैं।

    अगली छंटाई और सफाई सूप के द्वारा की जाती थी। दानों को थोड़ा-थोड़ा लेकर सूप में अच्छे से फटका जाता था, और फिर हिलाते हुए ऊँचाई से उसे धीरे-धीरे करके धरती पर गिराया जाता था। बहती हुई हवा से थोथे दाने और हल्की चीज़ें उड़कर कुछ दूर चली जाती थीं, और ठोस, आटे वाला गेहूँ, अपने वज़न के कारण वहीं सफाई करने वाले के पाँव के पास गिर जाता था जिसे फिर खत्ते में जमा कर के रख दिया जाता था। ये सारी प्रक्रियाएं इस अच्छे दाने को व्यर्थ से लग करने और खत्ते में बचा लेने के लिए की जाती थीं। इसे यदि प्रासंगिक शब्दों में कहें, केवल वही दाना जो ठोस होता था, जिस में आटा भरा होता था, इस सारे कुचले जाने, फटके जाने, झकझोरे जाने और गिराए जाने को सहन करते हुए भी सुरक्षित बचा रहता था, शेष सभी जलाए जाएँ के लिए चले जाते थे।

    1 पतरस 1:5 को देखिए – जो वास्तव में परमेश्वर के लोग हैं उन्हें आने वाले समयों के लिए सभी परीक्षाओं और परिस्थितियों में भी, विश्वास के द्वारा परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य सुरक्षित बनाए रखती है। उनकी अनन्तकालीन सुरक्षा उनके किसी बात को सहने और कोई कर्म करने के कारण नहीं है, किन्तु उनमें विद्यमान परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य के कारण है, जो उन्हें सभी परीक्षाओं में स्थिर और सुरक्षित बनाए रखती है। उनका अन्त तक धीरज धरे रहना, विश्वास में स्थिर बने रहना, उनकी वास्तविक आत्मिक स्थिति का प्रमाण है। जिनमें परमेश्वर की यह सामर्थ्य नहीं है वे इस पूरी प्रक्रिया के दौरान,किसी न किसी चरण में असफल हो जाएँगे, अपनी वास्तविक स्थिति को प्रकट कर देंगे, और अन्ततः उस विनाश के लिए चले जाएंगे जिसके लिए वे पहले से ठहराए गए हैं।

Do Matthew 24:13 and Mark 13:13 suggest that Salvation is based on Endurance?

    Matthew 24:13 and Mark 13:13 are often interpreted, understood, and taught to mean that it is the person’s persistent endurance in trials and tribulations that will qualify him or her for salvation. This implies that a person’ salvation is based on his works; which is contrary to the fundamental Biblical doctrine and teaching of salvation only by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus, and not through any works of any kind.

    We can understand the thought behind these two verses through two passages from Matthew. One is Matthew 13:24-30 - the parable of the good seed and tares; and the second is John the Baptist’s introduction to the people of the coming Messiah, the Lord Jesus, in Matthew 3:11-12.

    In the parable of the good seed and the tares, the owner of the field knew from the very beginning about the tares, and their eventual state – at harvest time they will be separated from the good seed and sent to be burnt in fire. He was only waiting for the right time to have this pre-ordained event implemented. Just because the tares too were permitted to continue in the field and also received the care, protection, watering, manuring etc. just as the good seed did during their lifetime, that never made them the same as the “good seed” which the owner of the field had sown. The eventual destruction of the tares was determined from the beginning, and was only biding time. Ponder over this with Matthew 7:21-23 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'”; and 2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."”

    People may fool us by their religiosity, works, preaching, and external appearances etc. but they will never fool the Lord, nor gain His acceptance through their self-devised means and methods to approach Him. The one and only way to God is the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). Therefore, Paul asks to exercise patience and not hurry in coming to conclusions about anyone’s state of salvation (1 Corinthians 4:5). The Lord’s judgements are perfect and impeccable, leave all judgment to Him; let Him, in His time reveal the true state of everyone. The Lord knows before hand who amongst those passing through the various trials, tribulations, and problems, are actually His people and who is not; no one can become the Lord’s people through any kind of works.

    Now, take the second example of Matthew 3:11-12. Here, in verse 12, John the Baptist, speaking about the Lord Jesus, says that He will first winnow and clean His threshing floor, and then gather the wheat into His barn. At the time this was written, they did not have the equipment we now have to harvest the fields and separate the wheat from the chaff, and then extract the solid grain from the one without flour in it for gathering and discarding the rest. At that time, as even now at many places of the world in the developing countries, the wheat was brought from the field to the threshing floor, and was spread out on the ground for repeatedly being crushed under the feet of bullocks or farm animals, called the treading out of the grain (1 Corinthians 9:9). This crushing would abrade the chaff off the grain, and then the chaff was separated and gathered to one side to be burnt, while the grain was taken for further filtering and cleaning.

    The second filtering was done by “winnowing” it, i.e., thoroughly shaking it and slowly allowing it to fall to the ground bit by bit from a height, so that the weighty grain stays behind while the lighter one, the one that does not have flour in it, and other impurities are separated out and removed. The breeze would carry the light part not having flour in it some distance away while the weighty grain with flour in it, because of its solid substance, would not get blown away but fall near the feet of the one winnowing it. So eventually that which fell at the feet of the winnower was the grain that actually had the flour in it. The various processes were meant to eventually separate this good grain out from the “waste” material. To put it in relevant words, only the grain with flour in it could “endure'' all of the crushing, sifting, winnowing and only it was eventually “saved” from being sent for burning.

    See 1 Peter 1:5 - God’s actual people are being kept or safe-guarded by the power of God through faith for salvation i.e., to be saved. These are the ones like the “worthwhile” grain, the one that endured everything and came out safe. These genuine people of God will endure everything, and eventually come out safe, will be saved into the Kingdom of God. Their eternal safety and security is not because of anything they do or endure, but because of God’s power in them that will keep them safe, and able to endure everything. Their endurance to the end testifies of their true spiritual state. Those not having this power of God will eventually succumb to something or the other while passing through these various trials and tribulations, and reveal their true state, and eventually will go into the fire to be burnt forever, for which they have been destined beforehand.

    So, Matthew 24:13 and Mark 13:13 are not about people saving themselves by their works and endurance, but about God’s people having an inherent ability of enduring everything and coming out victorious as the saved ones by the power of God already present and working in them. Also, god already knows the reality about each and every person; He knows who will go where eventually. He is only waiting for the appropriate time to send them to their rightful place.             उद्धार पाने के पश्चात हमारे कर्मों की जवाबदेही से हम किसी भी रीति से बच नहीं सकते हैं। पतरस लिखता है कि परमेश्वर का न्याय तो हम मसीही विश्वासियों से ही आरंभ होगा, जिससे शेष लोग परमेश्वर की खराई और निष्पक्षता को देख और समझ सकें, “क्योंकि वह समय आ पहुंचा है, कि पहिले परमेश्वर के लोगों का न्याय किया जाए, और जब कि न्याय का आरम्भ हम ही से होगा तो उन का क्या अन्त होगा जो परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार को नहीं मानते?” (1 पतरस 4:17)। पौलुस इसे कुछ और विस्तार से बताता है, “तो हर एक का काम प्रगट हो जाएगा; क्योंकि वह दिन उसे बताएगा; इसलिये कि आग के साथ प्रगट होगा: और वह आग हर एक का काम परखेगी कि कैसा है। जिस का काम उस पर बना हुआ स्थिर रहेगा, वह मजदूरी पाएगा। और यदि किसी का काम जल जाएगा, तो हानि उठाएगा; पर वह आप बच जाएगा परन्तु जलते जलते” (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:13-15)। अर्थात, हर एक का प्रत्येक काम बहुत बारीकी से, मानो आग से, जाँचा जाएगा, केवल योग्य ही बचेगा, सारा योग्य भस्म हो जाएगा; तब कई होंगे जो बच तो जाएंगे परन्तु जलते जलते, किन्तु वे खाली हाथ होंगे, उनके पास अनन्त काल के लिए स्वर्ग में कोई प्रतिफल नहीं होंगे।

            न केवल स्वर्ग में, वरन पृथ्वी पर भी ढीठ और ज़िद्दी विश्वासी जो पाप करने से नहीं रुकते हैं, उन्हें परमेश्वर की ताड़ना का सामना करना पड़ता है, जिस से कि वे अपने मार्गों को सुधार लें (इब्रानियों 12:5-11; 1 पतरस 4:1-2)। इसका एक उदाहरण 1 कुरिन्थियों 5:1-5 में दिया गया है – यहाँ पर पद 5 पर विशेष ध्यान दीजिए – उस पाप करते रहने वाले व्यक्ति के लिए कहा गया है कि उसकी देह को ताड़ना के लिए शैतान को सौंपा जाए, जिससे उसकी आत्मा उद्धार पाए। अर्थात वह अपने उद्धार को तो नहीं खोएगा, लेकिन अपने पाप के लिए दण्ड पाए बिना भी नहीं रहेगा।

            इसलिए, सीमित बुद्धि और समझ वाले किसी भी नाशमान मनुष्य की मनगढ़ंत धारणा और व्याख्या पर विश्वास करके, असीम बुद्धि और समझ वाले अविनाशी परमेश्वर और उसके वचन पर इलज़ाम लगाने, उसका निरादर करने, उसे बदनाम करने से पहले आवश्यक है कि बाइबल की बातों को बाइबल से ही जाँच परख कर देखा जाए, और तब ही किसी बात को स्वीकार किया जाए।

English Translation

Is Eternal Security, or, Salvation Cannot be Lost a Biblically Valid Doctrine?

We need to understand that the doctrine of “eternal Security”, contrary to its commonly held misinterpretation, its being misunderstood, and wrongly stated to mean, actually speaking, is not a license to sin with impunity under the assurance that there will be no consequences or accountability for them, since their salvation is eternal, will never be lost.

God is not naïve, and no one can ever make a fool out of Him. God’s “eternal security” only means that the death penalty of our sin, i.e., our eternal separation from God, has been borne for us by the Lord Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, and we will never have to suffer it now. But the Lord Jesus has not taken upon Himself the bad consequences or deleterious effects of our sins. We will be accountable and will suffer the consequences of our sins, in this world, as well as in heaven. Paul, through the Holy Spirit, writing to the Christian Believers in Corinth says “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). That is to say that everyone, i.e., every Christian has to appear before the judgment seat of Christ to receive the consequences or results and rewards of what they have done on earth. Notice Paul uses “we” and not “you”, implying that this holds true for him as well.

There is no escaping the accountability of our deeds, even after we are saved. Peter tells us that God’s judgment will begin with the judgement of Christian Believers, so that the rest of the people can see for themselves the integrity and unbiased judgement of God “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17). Paul states some more details in 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 about this judgment “each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire” - it will be a very minute scrutiny of each Christian Believer’s each and every work, as if by fire, and only the worthwhile will remain all the rest will perish; and though many will remain saved, as through fire, but they will suffer loss and have no rewards to live with in their eternity in heaven.

Not only in heaven, but the recalcitrant sinning Believers are also chastised by God here on earth, to make them mend their ways (Hebrews 12:5-11; 1 Peter 4:1-2); an example of this is 1 Corinthians 5:1-5 - take particular note of verse 5 here - this sinning person was to be handed over to Satan to be tormented here on earth, so that his spirit is saved - he will not lose his salvation, but he will not be allowed to go unpunished for his sin even here on earth.

Therefore, one needs to be clear and correct about the Biblical doctrine of “eternal security”, as the Bible states it, before aspersions are cast on it by accepting some fanciful interpretation of fallible and perishable person having a very limited understanding of the infallible, eternal and omniscient God and His Word but. Rather than maligning the infallible Word of God because of erroneous understanding and interpretation by fallible humans, one should study and verify Biblical things from the Bible itself.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

 क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले प्रभु और उसके चेले किसी उपवास की दशा में नहीं थे, और उन्होंने फसह का पर्व मनाया, फसह का मेमना बलिदान किया और खाया (मत्ती 26:17-21)। इसलिए प्रभु यीशु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले 'उपवास' रखना और मांस न खाना, किसी रीति से बाइबल के अनुसार संगत नहीं है।

   साथ ही हम यह भी देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने कभी अपने किसी भी शिष्य से उसके सेवकाई आरंभ करने से पहले ऐसा कुछ भी करने के लिए नहीं कहा। और बाद में प्रेरितों के कार्य अथवा पत्रियों में, जहाँ मसीही विश्वासियों की शिक्षा और सुधार के विषय पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और निर्देशानुसार बहुत सी बातें लिखी गई हैं, कभी इस प्रकार के किसी उपवास का कोई उल्लेख अथवा निर्देश नहीं आया है।

   ऐसे 'उपवास' का न तो कोई आधार है, न ही कोई आवश्यकता है, और न ही परमेश्वर की ओर से उसका कोई संज्ञान या प्रतिफल है – क्योंकि यह 'उपवास' परमेश्वर की ओर से स्थापित अथवा वाँछित कदापि नहीं है। आज लोग परंपरा के अन्तर्गत यशायाह 1:14-15 की अवहेलना करते हैं और मनगढ़ंत उपवास तथा उस उपवास के उद्देश्य निर्धारित कर लेते हैं। किन्तु वे फिर भी अपेक्षा करते हैं, तथा औरों को सिखाते हैं, कि यह करने और मनाने से परमेश्वर उनकी अपनी मनगढ़ंत धारणाओं को स्वीकार करने और उन्हें आशीष देने के लिए बाध्य है, और बाध्य होकर ऐसा करेगा भी!

   क्यों लोग व्यर्थ मनगढ़ंत परंपराओं का इतने उत्साह से पालन करने के स्थान पर, पहले परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करके उन बातों का पालन करना नहीं सीखते जिन्हें परमेश्वर चाहता है कि हम करें (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)? क्यों वे परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता के स्थान पर अंधी बुद्धि के साथ मनुष्यों की व्यर्थ विधियों को अधिक महत्व देते हैं जिनका बाइबल के अनुसार कोई आधार या औचित्य है ही नहीं; किन्तु परमेश्वर के आज्ञाकारी होने के प्रति इतना संकोच करते हैं; उसे सच्चा समर्पण नहीं करते हैं? क्यों?

“इसलिये जब हम पर ऐसी दया हुई, कि हमें यह सेवा मिली, तो हम हियाव नहीं छोड़ते। परन्तु हम ने लज्ज़ा के गुप्‍त कामों को त्याग दिया, और न चतुराई से चलते, और न परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट करते हैं, परन्तु सत्य को प्रगट कर के, परमेश्वर के साम्हने हर एक मनुष्य के विवेक में अपनी भलाई बैठाते हैं। परन्तु यदि हमारे सुसमाचार पर परदा पड़ा है, तो यह नाश होने वालों ही के लिये पड़ा है। और उन अविश्वासियों के लिये, जिन की बुद्धि को इस संसार के ईश्वर ने अन्‍धी कर दी है, ताकि मसीह जो परमेश्वर का प्रतिरूप है, उसके तेजोमय सुसमाचार का प्रकाश उन पर न चमके। क्योंकि हम अपने को नहीं, परन्तु मसीह यीशु को प्रचार करते हैं, कि वह प्रभु है; और अपने विषय में यह कहते हैं, कि हम यीशु के कारण तुम्हारे सेवक हैं। इसलिये कि परमेश्वर ही है, जिसने कहा, कि अन्धकार में से ज्योति चमके; और वही हमारे हृदयों में चमका, कि परमेश्वर की महिमा की पहिचान की ज्योति यीशु मसीह के चेहरे से प्रकाशमान हो” (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-6)।

English Translation

The Example of the Lord Jesus's 40 Days Fast

  Before His crucifixion the Lord and His disciples were not fasting, they observed the Passover; they sacrificed and ate of the Passover Lamb (Matthew 26:17-21). Therefore to observe the time preceding the Lord’s crucifixion as a ‘fast’ and abstain from eating meat in that time has no Biblical basis or precedence.

   We also see that the Lord never asked any of His disciples to do anything like what He had undergone at the beginning of His Ministry, when they started their ministry with Him. Neither later, in the book of Acts or in any of the Epistles, where under the guidance of the Holy Spirit many teachings and instructions have been given for the learning and improvement of Christian Believers, never has there been any mention or instruction regarding any such fast or practice.

   Such a ‘fast’ has neither any basis nor has any necessity, nor is it of any use, nor does God give it any consideration or reward – because such a ‘fast’ is neither given by nor desired by the Lord. Presently people traditionally observe a contrived a ‘fast’ and with a contrived purpose, but they disregard the admonition of Isaiah 1:14-15. But still they expect, and also teach to others, that when they observe it God will take it into consideration and bless them for it, as if God is under a compulsion to do so – which He most certainly is not!

   Why is it that people so enthusiastically accept and observe man-devised and contrived rituals and traditions but do not care about learning and obeying what God actually wants from them (1 Thessalonians 5:21)? Why do they blindly follow and remain committed to man devised rituals that have no Biblical sanction or standing, but are not committed and faithful in obeying God? Why?

   “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:1-6).
