परिचय - 2 

मसीही विश्वासियों तथा कलीसिया की उन्नति एवं परिपक्वता के लिए, यह अनिवार्य है कि मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन से भली-भान्ति अवगत हो। हमने पहले के लेखों में देखा है कि तीन प्रकार की बाइबल की शिक्षाएँ इस उन्नति और परिपक्वता के लिए आधारभूत हैं। इन तीन में से एक, सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को हम देख चुके हैं, और अब हमने आरम्भ की बातों से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को देखना आरम्भ किया है, जिनकी रूप-रेखा इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई है। वहाँ दी गई छः आरम्भ की बातों पर आने से पहले, पिछले लेख से हमने, एक परिचय के समान, इब्रानियों 5:11-14 को देखना आरम्भ किया है, जहाँ पर इन छः आरम्भ की बातों के उल्लेख का कारण दिया गया है। पिछले लेख में हमने इब्रानियों 5:11 से देखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के वचन की समझ और ज्ञान में बढ़ भी सकते हैं और नीचे गिर भी सकते हैं, और इसी अनुपात में उनकी आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी और परिपक्वता पर भी प्रभाव आता है। आज हम इस पद 11 से आगे देखेंगे।

इब्रानी विश्वासियों को लिखी अपनी इस पत्री का लेखक आगे, पद 12 में, उन से वह कहता है जिस की उन से अपेक्षा रखी गई थी - कि अब तक उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन के शिक्षक हो जाना चाहिए था, लेकिन इसके विपरीत, परमेश्वर के वचन के अपने ज्ञान और समझ में वे इतने नीचे आ गए हैं कि यह आवश्यकता हो गई थी कि “कोई तुम्हें परमेश्वर के वचनों की आदि शिक्षा फिर से सिखाए।” यह आज के मसीही विश्वासियों के सामने दो बातों को लाता है, जो आज उन पर उसी प्रकार से लागू हैं, जैसे उस समय उन इब्रानी विश्वासियों पर थी। इन में से पहले बात है कि परमेश्वर की अपने लोगों से, अपनी सन्तानों से कुछ अपेक्षाएँ हैं, और जितना समय उन्होंने उस के साथ उस के परिवार के सदस्य बनकर बिताया है, ये अपेक्षाएँ उसी के अनुपात में हैं, तथा परमेश्वर इन अपेक्षाओं को बहुत गम्भीरता से लेता है। परमेश्वर का उन इब्रानी विश्वासियों के गुरु या शिक्षक हो जाने की अपेक्षा रखना यह दिखाता है कि वे परमेश्वर के परिवार का इतने पर्याप्त समय से सदस्य बने हुए थे कि औरों को सिखाने के लायक परिपक्व और उन्नत हो जाएँ। दूसरी बात है कि यह पत्री सभी विश्वासियों को लिखी गई है, न कि केवल किसी विशेष प्रकार की सेवकाई में लगे हुए विश्वासियों को। इसलिए, निहितार्थ है कि परमेश्वर की कुछ निर्धारित विश्वासियों से नहीं बल्कि उन सभी से अपेक्षा थी कि वे शिक्षक या गुरु होने योग्य हो गए होंगे। अवश्य ही बाइबल में विभिन्न प्रकार की सेवकाइयों का उल्लेख है (रोमियों 12:6-8; 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:8-11, 28), और वचन की सेवकाई से सम्बन्धित सेवकाइयाँ भी दी गई हैं (इफिसियों 4:11)। लेकिन इस का भी ध्यान रखा जाना चाहिए कि ये सभी सेवकाइयाँ, प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को दी गई “महान आज्ञा” (मत्ती 28:19-20; प्रेरितों 1:8) के अन्तर्गत ही आती हैं।

इस महान आज्ञा के अन्तर्गत, प्रभु यीशु के सभी शिष्यों को सँसार के छोर तक जा कर औरों को शिष्य बनाना था, और जो शिष्य बनते उन्हें बपतिस्मा देना था, और, जैसा कि इस चर्चा के लिए प्रासंगिक है, उन्हें प्रभु द्वारा सिखाई गई सभी बातों को मानना सिखाना था। इसलिए परमेश्वर के वचन का “शिक्षक” या “गुरु” होना, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए अनिवार्य है। इसके लिए प्रश्न यह नहीं है कि किसी ने परमेश्वर के वचन को सिखाने का प्रशिक्षण लिया है कि नहीं, या कोई परमेश्वर के वचन को सिखाने में कितना निपुण है। वरन बात यह है कि परमेश्वर ने व्यक्ति को जो भी सिखाया है, क्या वह उसे दूसरों के साथ बाँटने की इच्छा रखता है कि नहीं। स्मरण कीजिए कि उस के उद्धार पाने के पल से ही पवित्र आत्मा प्रत्येक विश्वासी में निवास करता है (प्रेरितों 19:2; रोमियों 8:9; 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:3; गलतियों 3:2; इफिसियों 1:13-14), और पवित्र आत्मा का एक कार्य है परमेश्वर की सन्तानों, मसीह यीशु के शिष्यों को परमेश्वर के वचन को सिखाना (यूहन्ना 14:26; 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:11-13)। तात्पर्य यह है कि यदि मसीही विश्वासी अपने मसीही जीवन पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और आज्ञाकारिता (गलतियों 5:16, 25) में जीते आ रहे हैं, तो फिर वे उस से परमेश्वर का वचन भी सीखते रहे होंगे, और जो भी उन्होंने सीखा है उसे औरों को पहुँचाने में उनकी रुचि और योग्यता भी होगी, चाहे वह बात उन्हें कितनी भी छोटी और कम महत्व वाली ही क्यों न प्रतीत हो। जब वे नियमित रीति से ऐसा करेंगे, तब पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें और भी अधिक सिखाएगा, और परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षाओं में और अधिक उन्नति करने, परिपक्व होने में उनकी सहायता करेगा। परमेश्वर के वचन की जानकारी न होने, या उसे पर्याप्त न जानने का बहाना बनाना केवल यही दिखाता है कि अपने मसीही जीवनों में वे पवित्र आत्मा से सीख नहीं रहे हैं, तथा उसके आज्ञाकारी बने हुए नहीं हैं।

संभवतः, यही उन इब्रानी विश्वासियों के साथ भी हुआ होगा, और अन्ततः अपेक्षाओं के अनुरूप न होने, तथा उनकी अयोग्यता एवं अपरिपक्वता के लिए परमेश्वर को उन्हें डाँटना पड़ा। क्योंकि न तो वे स्वयं ही सीख रहे थे, और न ही औरों को सिखा रहे थे, परिणामस्वरूप, उनके मसीही जीवन गिर कर बालकों के स्तर पर आ गए थे, और उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन की आदि शिक्षा को फिर से सिखाए जाने की आवश्यकता हो गई थी। अगले लेख में हम यहीं से आगे बढ़ेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Elementary Principles – 2

Introduction - 2

For the spiritual growth and maturity of the Christian Believers and the Church, it is essential that the Christian Believers be well versed in all of God’s Word, and learn to apply it in their day-to-day lives. We have seen in the earlier articles that there are three kinds of Biblical teachings that are fundamental for this growth and maturity. Of these three, we have already seen the teachings related to the gospel, and have now started on teachings related to the elementary principles outlined in Hebrews 6:1-2. Before coming to the six elementary principles mentioned there, since the last article, as an introduction, we have started to consider Hebrews 5:11-14, where the reason for the mention of these six elementary principles has been given. In the last article, we have seen from Hebrews 5:11 that Christian Believers can both, grow as well as decline in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, proportionately affecting their spiritual growth and maturity. Today we will consider ahead of verse 11.

The author of the letter to the Hebrew Believers, then states in verse 12, something that was expected of them – that by now they should have become teachers of God’s Word, but to the contrary, they have so declined in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, that they “need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God.” This brings before today’s Christian Believers two things, which are applicable to them today, just as they were applicable to those Hebrew Believers then. These are, firstly, God has expectations from His people, His children, the expectations are in proportion to the time they have been in fellowship with Him as members of His family, and God takes fulfilling the expectations seriously. God’s expecting the Hebrew Believers to be teachers shows that they had been part of God’s family for a sufficient amount of time to have matured and grown enough to be teaching others. The second thing is, notice that this letter has been addressed to all Believers, not just to those having a particular kind of ministry. Therefore, by implication, God’s expectation of their being teachers is for all of them, not just a designated few. For sure, the Bible mentions various kinds of ministries (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, 28), and also specifies some ministries related to the ministry of God’s Word (Ephesians 4:11). But it is to be noted that all of these come under the umbrella of the “Great Commission” given by the Lord Jesus to His disciples (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). 

Under this Great Commission, all disciples of the Lord Jesus, i.e., all Christian Believers are to go to the ends of the world and make other disciples, and those that became the disciples, to baptize them and, as is relevant to this discussion, teach them all things that the Lord has taught to them. So, being a “teacher” of God’s Word for others, is compulsory for every Christian Believer. It is not a question of whether or not one has taken any training to teach God’s Word, or how expert or learned one is in God’s Word. The idea is to be being willing to share whatever God has taught a person. Remember, God the Holy Spirit resides in every Believer since the moment of his salvation (Acts 19:2; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:3; Galatians 3:2; Ephesians 1:13-14), and one of the purposes of the Holy Spirit is to teach God’s Word (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:11-13) to God’s children, the disciples of Christ Jesus. The implication is that if the Christian Believers have been living their Christian lives under the guidance and obedience of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 25), then they will be learning God’s Word from Him, and would have the interest and ability to pass on what they have learnt, however little or insignificant it may seem to them, to others as well. When they start doing this regularly, the Holy Spirit will teach them more and more, help them grow and mature in the teachings of God’s Words. Pleading inability to do so because of not knowing God’s Word or not knowing enough of it, only indicates their not learning from the Holy Spirit and not being obedient to Him in their Christian lives. 

Apparently, that is what had happened to these Hebrew Believers, and eventually God had to reprimand them for not being up to the expectations, and for their immaturity and inability. Because they were neither learning themselves, nor teaching others, therefore, they lost whatever they had learnt in their Christian lives, and came down to the level of children, needing to be taught the basics once again. We will take this up from here in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

इस श्रृंखला, परमेश्वर के वचन से बढ़ोतरी, के आरम्भ के आरंभिक विचारों में, हमने देखा था कि अपने आत्मिक उन्नति और बढ़ोतरी के लिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन से अवगत होना चाहिए; जैसे-जैसे वह परमेश्वर के वचन में बढ़ेगा वह अपने आत्मिक जीवन में भी बढ़ता और परिपक्व होता चला जाएगा। क्योंकि कलीसिया मसीही विश्वासियों का समूह है, इसलिए जैसे-जैसे विश्वासी आत्मिक रीति से बढ़ते और परिपक्व होते हैं, वैसे-वैसे कलीसिया भी आत्मिक रीति से परिपक्व होगी, उसमें बढ़ोतरी होगी। हमने यह भी देखा था कि तीन प्रकार की बाइबल की शिक्षाएँ मसीही जीवन में बढ़ोतरी और परिपक्वता के लिए आधारभूत हैं। ये हैं: सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ; आरम्भिक बातों से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ; व्यवहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ। इन तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाओं में से हमने पिछले लेख में सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं के अध्ययन का समापन किया है। आज से हम दूसरे प्रकार की शिक्षाओं को देखना आरम्भ कर रहे हैं, अर्थात इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई छः प्रकार की आरम्भिक बातों से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ। इससे पहले कि हम बारी-बारी से इन छः आरंभिक बातों को देखना आरम्भ करें, इनके परिचय के रूप में इससे से ठीक पहले के खण्ड, इब्रानियों 5:11-14, पर थोड़ा विचार करना लाभदायक रहेगा

इब्रानियों 5 के इस खण्ड में, इब्रानी विश्वासियों को लिखी इस पत्री का लेखक उन्हें फटकार लगाता है, क्योंकि वह उन्हें इब्रानियों 5 के पहले दस पदों के विषय, याजकीय सेवकाई और मलिकिसिदक, के बारे में सिखाने में अपने आप को असमर्थ पा रहा था। लेखक पद 11 में उन से कहता है, कि उसके पास कहने के लिए तो बहुत कुछ है और उन बातों को समझना भी कठिन है क्योंकि वे, अर्थात उसके पाठक ऊँचा सुनने लगे हैं। उनसे यह कहने के द्वारा “कि तुम ऊंचा सुनने लगे हो” लेखक यह सन्देश दे रहा है कि एक समय पर वे लोग इन शिक्षाओं को ग्रहण करने योग्य और परिपक्व थे, किन्तु अब उनकी आत्मिक परिपक्वता गिर गई है और वे “ऊँचा सुनने” लगे हैं, अर्थात सीखने में धीमे हो गए हैं। दूसरे शब्दों में, अब वे उन्हें जो सिखाया जाता है, उसे ग्रहण कर पाने और समझने के योग्य नहीं रह गए हैं।

यह हमारे सामने परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखने और अध्ययन करने से सम्बन्धित एक महत्वपूर्ण बात को लाता है कि, व्यक्ति परमेश्वर के वचन को सीखने और समझने में उन्नति भी कर सकता है और कमज़ोर पड़कर नीचे गिर भी सकता है। ध्यान कीजिए कि इस पत्री का लेखक अपने पाठकों से यह नहीं कह रहा है कि उन्होंने अपना विश्वास खो दिया है, अविश्वासी हो गए हैं; न ही वह उनसे यह कह रहा है कि वास्तव में वे कभी विश्वास में थे ही नहीं, और अब उनकी वास्तविकता प्रकट हो गई है क्योंकि वे अपने आप को उन्हें दी गईं परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षाओं में बनाए नहीं रख सके। किन्तु किसी कारण से उनके आत्मिक जीवनों में एक निष्क्रियता आ गई थी, और वे ऊँचा सुनने या सीखने में धीमे हो गए थे। इसलिए शिक्षा यही है कि मसीही विश्वासियों को परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करने और उसे सीखने में रुचि बनाए रखनी चाहिए, सक्रिय रहना चाहिए, अन्यथा उन्होंने जो सीखा है, उसे वे शीघ्र ही भूल जाएँगे, तथा उससे ऊपर के स्तर की शिक्षाओं को नहीं समझने पाएँगे, क्योंकि उसके लिए मौलिक बातों का आधार होना आवश्यक है। इससे हमारे सामने यह महत्वपूर्ण बात भी आती है कि केवल परमेश्वर के वचन को सुनना मात्र ही काफी नहीं है। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उस पर मनन भी करना चाहिए, उसे याद रखना चाहिए, उसकी जुगाली करते रहना चाहिए, तब ही वह वचन से अधिकाई से प्राप्त कर सकेगा। जैसा कि यशायाह में लिखा है, नियम पर नियम रख कर शिक्षा को बनाया जाता है (यशायाह 28:10); इसके लिए आधारभूत शिक्षाओं में स्थापित होना अनिवार्य है, तब ही गूढ़ बातें सीखी जा सकती हैं। यदि मौलिक बातें खो गईं, तो फिर गूढ़ बातों को न तो ग्रहण किया जा सकता है, और न समझा जा सकता है। इसीलिए इसके बाद के पदों में लेखक आधारभूत बातों पर लौटने पर जोर देता है, और इसे हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

Teachings Related to the Elementary Principles – 1

Introduction - 1

 

At the beginning of this series on Growth through the Word of God, in the preliminary considerations, we had seen that for their spiritual growth, every Christian Believer ought to be well versed in the whole of God’s Word; as he grows in God’s Word, he will also mature and grow in his spiritual life. Since the Church is the congregation of the Christian Believers, therefore, as the Believers mature and grow spiritually, the Church will also mature and grow spiritually. We had also seen that three categories of Biblical teachings are fundamental for Christian growth and maturity. These are: Teachings related to the gospel; Teachings related to the elementary principles; Teachings related to practical Christian living. Of these three categories, we have concluded about the teachings related to the gospel in the last article. From today we are starting on the second category, i.e., teachings related to the six elementary principles, that are given in Hebrews 6:1-2. Before we start on these six principles, one-by-one, it will be helpful to see the immediately preceding section, Hebrews 5:11-14, as an introduction to these principles.

In this section of Hebrews 5, the author of the letter to the Hebrew Believers chides his readers, since he finds himself unable to explain to them about the Priesthood and Melchizedek – the subject of the first ten verses of Hebrews 5. The author, in verse 11 says to them that he has much to say, but is finding it hard to explain, since they – the readers, have become dull of hearing. By saying to them that “you have become dull of hearing” the author is indicating that at one time they were capable and mature to receive these teachings, but now their spiritual maturity has come down and they have become “dull of hearing;” or, as the NIV puts it, “slow to learn.” In other words, although there was time when they were capable of it, but now they are no longer capable of receiving and comprehending that which is taught to them.

This brings before us an important thing to keep in mind about studying and learning God’s Word; a person can both, grow strong, as well as grow weak and come down in his learning and understanding of God’s Word. Notice, that the author of this letter is not saying to his readers that they have lost their faith, become unbelievers; nor is he saying that since they never were actually in the faith, therefore, eventually their truth became apparent and they could not maintain themselves in the teachings of God’s Word given to them. But for some reason there was a stagnation in their spiritual lives, and they became dull of hearing or slow to learn. So, the lesson is that Christian Believers have to actively maintain their interest in studying and learning God’s Word, otherwise they will soon forget what they had learnt, and will not be able to comprehend the higher level of teachings, which require the basics to build up on. This also brings before us another important aspect, merely listening to God’s Word is not enough. Every Believer needs to meditate upon it, keep remembering and ruminating over it, to get the most out of it. As it says in Isaiah precept is built upon precept (Isaiah 28:10); it requires being well grounded in the basics, to learn the deeper things. If the basics are lost, then higher things cannot be received and comprehended. That is why in the subsequent verses the author emphasizes going back to learn the basics, and we will consider about this in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    इस श्रृंखला के आरम्भ में, हमने कहा था कि मसीही विश्वासी तथा कलीसिया, अपनी आत्मिक उन्नति एवं बढ़ोतरी के लिए, दोनों ही परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन को भोजन के समान लेते रहने पर निर्भर हैं। यह कोई मात्र अटकल लगाना नहीं है, वरन परमेश्वर के लोगों के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन का दावा है (भजन  19:7-10; 1 पतरस 2:1-2; 2 पतरस 3:18)। परमेश्वर के लोगों से अपेक्षा रखी जाती है कि वे समस्याओं से बचे रहने के लिए परमेश्वर के समस्त वचन से अवगत रहेंगे और उसका पालन करते रहेंगे। परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल हमें सिखाती है कि जब भी परमेश्वर से मिलने वाली समझ की घटी होती है, परमेश्वर के लोग स्वतः ही गम्भीर समस्याओं में गिरने लग जाते हैं (यशायाह 5:13; होशे 4:6)। इस श्रृंखला के आरम्भ में दिए गए आरम्भिक विचारों में, हमने देखा था कि तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाएँ हैं जो मसीही विश्वासियों एवं कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति के लिए आधारभूत या मौलिक हैं, क्योंकि कलीसिया मसीही विश्वासियों का समूह ही है। ये तीन प्रकार की शिक्षाएँ हैं सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ; आरम्भिक बातों से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ; व्यवहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाएँ।

    इन तीनों में से हमने सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं के साथ आरम्भ किया था, और समझा था कि ‘सुसमाचार’ शब्द का क्या अर्थ है। हमने देखा था कि पश्चाताप या मन-फिराव और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना सुसमाचार के दो अनिवार्य पक्ष हैं। ये दोनों पक्ष एक ही सिक्के के दोनों ओर के समान हैं; जब तक कि दोनों विद्यमान न हों, सिक्का अधूरा है और उसकी कोई कीमत नहीं है। इसी प्रकार से जब तक व्यक्ति के जीवन में एक साथ ही वास्तविक पश्चाताप और खराई से सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना नहीं होता है, और यह उसके जीवन में लागू नहीं किया जाता है, तो सुसमाचार अप्रभावी या व्यर्थ होता है – जैसा हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 से देखा, जहाँ पर और गलतियों 1:4 में, सुसमाचार का सार या मर्म दिया गया है। आज सुसमाचार की शिक्षाओं से सम्बन्धित इस अंतिम लेख में हम सुसमाचार के बहुत महत्वपूर्ण, बहुत सामर्थी, परन्तु अकसर नज़रन्दाज़ किए जाने वाले, पहचाने न जाने वाले, और मसीही विश्वासियों के जीवनों में लागू न किए जाने वाले पक्ष को देखेंगे। यदि इस पक्ष को समझ लिया जाए, ध्यान में बनाए रखा जाए, और जीवन में लागू किया जाए तो इससे मसीही विश्वासियों को अपने आत्मिक जीवन में बढ़ते रहने और शैतान की युक्तियों में नहीं फँस पाने में बहुत सहायता मिलेगी।

    पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, प्रेरित पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखा, “क्योंकि मैं सुसमाचार से नहीं लजाता, इसलिये कि वह हर एक विश्वास करने वाले के लिये, पहिले तो यहूदी, फिर यूनानी के लिये उद्धार के निमित परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य है” (रोमियों 1:16)। सुसमाचार का यह गुण है कि वह उद्धार के निमित परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य है, अर्थात वह सामर्थ्य है जो नरक के मार्ग पर अग्रसर घोर पापी को भी बदल कर पवित्र और महिमित परमेश्वर की सन्तान बना देता है, और जो प्रत्येक विश्वास करने वाले को उपलब्ध है। लेकिन फिर भी मसीही सँसार से डरा हुआ जीवन जीते हैं, शैतान और उसकी शक्तियों से हारा हुआ और उनके द्वारा दबाया गया जीवन जीते हैं, बजाए अपने जीवनों से सुसमाचार की सामर्थ्य को कार्यकारी दिखाने के।

    पौलुस ने अठारह महीनों तक कुरिन्थुस में परिश्रम किया और वहाँ पर कलीसिया की स्थापना की थी (प्रेरितों 18:1, 11)। वहाँ से जाने के बाद में उसे पता चला कि उस कलीसिया में अनेकों समस्याएँ उत्पन्न हो गई हैं; उन समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस ने उनको पत्र लिखे। उसके पत्रों में से दो को नए नियम में परमेश्वर के वचन का एक भाग बनाया गया है। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों के आरम्भ में देखते हैं कि आरम्भिक अभिवादन और आशीर्वाद के तुरन्त बाद पौलुस उन विभिन्न समस्याओं को, जो उसके ध्यान में लाई गई थीं, संबोधित करना आरम्भ कर देता है और उनका समाधान बताता जाता है; और यह पत्र के अंत तक चलता रहता है। पत्र के अंत की ओर आकर, जिसे हम अपने बाइबलों में 15 अध्याय के नाम से जानते हैं, पौलुस अपने पाठकों को सुसमाचार को स्मरण करवाता है। इस तथ्य पर थोड़ा विचार कीजिए; पौलुस का पत्र विश्वासियों को लिखा गया था, अविश्वासियों को नहीं; इस पत्र के अपने आरम्भ में पौलुस उन्हें “परमेश्वर की उस कलीसिया के नाम जो कुरिन्थुस में है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:2) सम्बोधित करता है। जबकि, सुसमाचार, जैसा हम उसके बारे में जानते और समझते हैं, अविश्वासियों को प्रभु में विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार में लाने के लिए है। इसलिए, कुरिन्थुस के विश्वासियों को, उनकी गलतियों को दिखाने और उन्हें सही करने के दौरान, पौलुस द्वारा उन्हें सुसमाचार को स्मरण दिलाने की क्या आवश्यकता पड़ गई?

    गलतियों 1:4 एक अन्य पद है जहाँ पर सुसमाचार का सार या मर्म दिया गया है, और गलतिया के विश्वासियों को लिखी गई यह पत्री सुसमाचार की उपरोक्त सामर्थ्य का प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण है। गलतिया की कलीसिया उद्धार और उद्धार पाया हुआ जीवन जीते रहने के लिए विधियों के निर्वाह और व्यवस्था के पालन में विश्वास करने में गिरती जा रही थी। पौलुस ने उन्हें लिखे अपने पत्र के आरम्भ में, पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा, स्मरण दिलाया कि उनके उद्धार का आधार, अर्थात सुसमाचार क्या है, और फिर उन्हें समझाया कि विश्वासी के द्वारा व्यवस्था के पालन में पड़ना कैसे व्यर्थ है (गलतियों 3:1-5, 10-14, 23-26; 4:9-11); और कैसे शैतान उन्हें बहका और भरमा रहा है कि वे परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह को भूलकर अपने कर्मों पर भरोसा करने लग जाएँ – अर्थात, व्यवस्था पालन, और व्यवस्था के पीछे चलने के अपने कर्मों पर। सो इस प्रकार, दोनों ही स्थानों से हम देखते हैं कि किस प्रकार से सुसमाचार विश्वासी को अपने उद्धार तथा परमेश्वर के साथ सम्बन्ध के विषय सही दृष्टिकोण में लौट आने, और परमेश्वर की सहायता से एक विजयी जीवन जीने में सहायता करता है। प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को एक स्वर्गीय दृष्टिकोण बनाकर रहना चाहिए (कुलुस्सियों 3:1-2), और यह एक स्वाभाविक बात, स्वतः होने वाला कार्य हो जाएगा, यदि मसीही विश्वासी अपने आप को सुसमाचार के बारे में याद दिलाते रहेंगे, कि प्रत्येक विश्वास करने वाले के लिए यह उद्धार के निमित परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य है; और फिर वे अपने आत्मिक जीवनों में एक अद्भुत सामर्थ्य और उन्नति को देखेंगे।

    अगले लेख से हम इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई आरम्भ की बातों को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे। हम उन्हें देखना, इन आरम्भ की बातों के परिचय के साथ, जो इब्रानियों 5:11-14 में दिया गया है, से करेंगे।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 37

 

    At the beginning of this series, we had said that the spiritual growth of the Church and the Christian Believer are both dependant upon their feeding on the whole of God’s Word. This is not mere conjecture, but the assertion of God’s Word for God’s people (Psalm 19:7-10; 1 Peter 2:1-2; 2 Peter 3:18). God’s people are expected to be well versed in all of God’s Word, and keep following it, to stay safe from falling into problematic situations. God’s Word the Bible teaches us that where there is lack of knowledge from God, God’s people automatically go into serious problems (Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6). In the preliminary considerations at the beginning of this series, we had seen that there are three kinds of teachings that are fundamental for the growth and progress of Christian Believers, and therefore, of the Church, since it is the congregation of the Christian Believers. These three kinds of teachings are teachings related to the gospel; teachings related to the elementary principles; and teachings related to practical Christian living.

    Of these three, we had started with the teachings related to the gospel and had understood what the term ‘gospel’ means. We saw that repentance and believing in the gospel are the two essential components of the gospel. These two components are like the two sides of the same coin; unless both are present together, the coin is incomplete and of no value. Similarly, unless true repentance and sincere believing in the gospel are accepted and applied in a person’s life simultaneously, the gospel is ineffective or vain – as we have seen from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, where, along with Galatians 1:4, the gist of the gospel has been given. Today, in this concluding article on teachings related to the gospel, we will consider one very important, very powerful, but mostly neglected, unrealized, and unapplied aspect of the gospel, which if understood, kept in mind, and applied by Christian Believers in their day-to-day lives, will help them tremendously to live overcoming lives, not fall into Satan’s ploys, and to grow spiritually.

    Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul, wrote to the Christian Believers in Rome, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16). This characteristic of the gospel, that it is the power God to salvation, i.e., the power that turns a vile hell-bound sinner into a holy and glorious child of God, is available for everyone who believes. And yet the Christian Believers live fearful of the world, defeated and subdued by Satan and his forces, instead of demonstrating the effects of the power of the gospel at work in their lives.

    Paul had laboured for eighteen months in Corinth (Acts 18:1, 11) to establish the Church there. Later, after he had gone elsewhere, he learnt of the various problems that had developed in that Church; and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote letters addressed to the Church in Corinth to rectify those errors that had crept into them. We have two of his letters compiled in the New Testament as part of God’s Word. We see at the very beginning of 1 Corinthians, straightaway after the initial greetings and opening blessings, Paul starts addressing the various problems that were brought to his notice, and the way to rectify them; and this continues right through the letter. Towards the end of the letter, in what we have as chapter 15 in our Bibles, Paul reminds his readers of the gospel. Ponder over this fact; Paul's letter was addressed to established Christian Believers and not some unbelievers; in his opening address to them he addresses them as the “Church of God which is at Corinth” (1 Corinthians 1:2). Whereas, the gospel as we see and understand about it, is meant to bring the unbelievers to salvation through faith in the Lord. So, what is the relevance of Paul’s reminding the Believers in Corinth about the gospel, while showing them their errors and the way to correct them?

    As one reads through 1 Corinthians 15, after reminding them of the gospel, Pauls affirms to them the veracity of the gospel and its transforming power, and then goes on to teaching them about the significance of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and its relevance for the Believers. Remember, not only the death and burial, but even the resurrection of the Lord Jesus are the essential parts of the gospel. What the Holy Spirit is showing to the errant Believers through Paul is that whenever you find yourself being tempted, or overwhelmed by satanic ploys, remember what God has done for you. Recall from where God picked you up, and where He has placed you presently (1 Corinthians 1:26-31), and think about what God has in mind for you in the days to come (1 Corinthians 15:51-58). Once the Believers learn look at things, situations, temptations, struggles, opposition, etc. through the perspective of the gospel, and then behave accordingly, Satan will have a hard time overcoming the Believers and inducing them to sin.

    Galatians 1:4, another verse where the gist of the gospel has been stated, and the letter to Galatians is a practical example of this. The Church in Galatia had started to slip into believing in legalism and observance of the Law for salvation and living the life of a saved person. Paul, through the Holy Spirit, begins by reminding them of the what the gospel, the basis of their salvation is, and then goes on to expound to them the vanity of a Christian Believer falling for the observance of the Law, because of Satan has beguiling them into forgetting God’s grace and relying on works – the works of the Law, and going after the Law (Galatians 3:1-5, 10-14, 23-26; 4:9-11). So, at both places we see how the gospel helps the Believers to come back to a correct perspective about their salvation and relationship with God, and live overcoming lives through the power of God. Every Christian Believer should live with this heavenly perspective (Colossians 3:1-2), which will become a natural thing, something automatic, if the Christian Believers keep reminding themselves of the gospel – the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes; and they will see a tremendous growth and power in their spiritual lives.

    From the next article we will start considering about the elementary principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2. We will begin by considering the prologue to these elementary principles given in Hebrews 5:11-14.

    प्रभु यीशु ने अपनी पृथ्वी के सेवकाई के दौरान, बुरे बीज के दृष्टान्त (मत्ती 13:24-30) के द्वारा चेतावनी दी थी कि शत्रु आ कर स्वामी के खेत में बुरे बीज बो देगा, और वह ऐसा तब करेगा जब स्वामी के सेवक सो रहे होंगे (मत्ती 13:25), अर्थात सचेत नहीं होंगे। जब भी मसीही विश्वासी और उनके अगुवे, विशेषकर वे जिन्हें वचन की सेवकाई सौंपी गई है, निश्चिन्त और लापरवाह हो जाते हैं, और जो वचन प्रचार किया तथा सिखाया जा रहा है, उसका आंकलन नहीं करते हैं, जिसे करना परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षा है (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:29; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21), तब लोगों को बहकाने और भरमाने के लिए शैतान निश्चय ही झूठी शिक्षाएँ और गलत सिद्धान्त ले आता है। इन झूठी शिक्षाओं और गलत सिद्धान्तों को कलीसिया में फैलाने के लिए जिन “बुरे बीजों” वो बोता है, वे झूठे प्रेरितों, छल से काम करने वाले लोग होते हैं जो मसीह के प्रेरितों, ज्योतिर्मय स्वर्गदूत, और धर्म के सेवकों का रूप धर कर आते हैं (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15)। वे बहुत भक्त और धर्मी, तथा समर्पित विश्वासियों के भेस में आते हैं। ये घुसपैठिये झूठी शिक्षाएँ और गलत सिद्धान्त ले आते हैं, जिससे कि कलीसिया में समस्याएँ उत्पन्न हो जाएँ। उन्हें पहचानने का एक आधारभूत चिह्न है कि वे जो प्रचार करते और शिक्षाएँ देते हैं, वे सभी शारीरिक और साँसारिक बातों के बारे में होती हैं, साँसारिक समृद्धि, शारीरिक चंगाई, भौतिक और नश्वर लालसाओं की पूर्ति आदि से सम्बन्धित; किन्तु उद्धार का सुसमाचार और उस से सम्बन्धित पापों से क्षमा तथा मसीह यीशु में विश्वास करना, उनकी शिक्षाओं में नहीं पाया जाता है।

    प्रेरित पौलुस ने इफिसुस की मण्डली के अगुवों से अपनी अन्तिम विदाई लेते समय उन्हें चेतावनी दी कि वे सचेत और सावधान रहें, क्योंकि बाहर से ‘फाड़ने वाले भेड़िये’ आएँगे, और कलीसिया के अन्दर से भरमाने वाली बातें करके शिष्यों को अपने पीछे खींचने वाले लोग उठेंगे (प्रेरितों 20:28-31); अर्थात ऐसे लोग जो औरों को झूठी शिक्षाओं और गलत सिद्धान्तों में फंसाकर, परमेश्वर के वचन के नहीं बल्कि अपने ही पीछे चलने वाला बनाएँगे और विनाश में ले जाएंगे।

    इसी प्रकार से प्रेरित यूहन्ना ने भी चेतावनी दी कि बहुत से मसीह विरोधी उठ खड़े हुए हैं और कार्य कर रहे हैं; वे विश्वासियों में से ही निकल कर आए थे, किन्तु उन्हें छोड़ कर बाहर चले गए; और उन का प्रभु के लोगों के साथ बने न रहना ही इस बात का चिह्न है कि वे किस के लोग हैं (1 यूहन्ना 2:18-19)।

    इसलिए, नकली विश्वासियों के प्रचार और शिक्षाओं में पापों के लिए पश्चाताप, प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास, और उसे पूर्ण समर्पण की शिक्षा के न होने के साथ ही एक अन्य लक्षण भी होता है, जिससे हम उन्हें पहचान सकते हैं; यह दूसरा लक्षण है कि वे विश्वासियों की उन मण्डलियों में, जहाँ बाइबल की शिक्षाएँ दी जाती हैं, विभाजन करवाते हैं, गुट बनवा देते हैं, मण्डली को तोड़ने और अपने पीछे चलने वाले लोगों को लेकर निकल जाने के प्रयास करते हैं।

    इसीलिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि वह परमेश्वर के सम्पूर्ण वचन में स्थिर बना रहे, और कम से कम मौलिक शिक्षाओं को तो अवश्य सीखे, जो करना आत्मिक उन्नति तथा मसीही जीवन के लिए अनिवार्य है। अगले लेख में हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित एक और पक्ष को देखेंगे, और फिर उसके बाद हम एक दूसरे विषय, आरंभिक सिद्धान्तों पर जाएँगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 36

 

    We have been seeing in the previous articles that along with repentance from sins, believing in the gospel is are essential components of Biblical teachings related to the gospel. The two put together make a functional unit, one without the other is incomplete and ineffective. To prevent people from believing in the true Biblical gospel, which has been outlined in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and Galatians 1:4, Satan tries to substitute it with a contrived false gospel, or pervert it by inducing people to add their own thoughts and understanding to it. We have considered from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 what the gospel is, and now from 1 Corinthians 15:1-2, we are considering about the instructions to stand firm in it and hold fast to it; for as it has been written here, those who do not do so are those who have believed in vain. Over the past few articles, we have seen various examples from God’s Word the Bible, of people who had believed in vain, i.e., they had claimed to be the Lord’s followers and believers in Him, but various circumstances exposed the vanity of their claim, and for some reason or the other, they walked away from the Lord and His people. From their lives and examples, we had learnt certain characteristics of such pseudo-believers in the Lord. Today we will see more on this vain belief, how it effects the Church.

    The Lord Jesus had warned during his earthly ministry through the parable of the wheat and tares (Matthew 13:24-30) that the enemy will sow the tares in the Master’s field, and he will do so when the workers of the Master are sleeping (Matthew 13:25), i.e., are not alert. Whenever the Christian Believers and their Elders, especially those involved in the ministry of God’s Word, become complacent, and do not evaluate the word that is being preached and taught, as has been instructed in God’s Word (Acts 17:11; 1 Corinthians 14:29; 1 Thessalonians 5:21), Satan will surely bring in wrong teachings and false doctrines to mislead people away. The ‘tares’ that he plants in the Church to spread these wrong teachings and false doctrines, are brought in as false prophets, deceitful workers who come as apostles of Christ, ministers of righteousness, angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). They will come as very godly, committed believers. These infiltrators will bring in wrong teachings and false doctrines to create problems in the Church. One basic way to recognize them and their teachings is that they will preach and teach about physical and worldly things, about worldly prosperity, physical healings, fulfilling of temporal and physical desires, etc., but the gospel of salvation through repentance for sins and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be missing from their teachings.

    The Apostle Paul, bidding a final farewell to the elders of the Church in Ephesus, warned them to take heed and be careful, since ‘savage wolves’ will come from outside, and from within the Church men speaking perverse things will rise to draw the disciples to themselves (Acts 20:28-31), i.e., lead people away from the truth into wrong teachings and false doctrines, into following them instead of following God’s Word, and take them into destruction.

    Similarly, the Apostle John warned that many antichrists have already come and are at work; they rose up from amongst the Believers, but left them and moved out; their not being willing to continue with the people of God is an indicator of who they belong to (1 John 2:18-19).

    So, in the teachings and preaching of the false believers, besides repentance for sins, faith in the Lord Jesus, and submission to Him being missing, another characteristic that helps us identify them is that they create divisions and factions in the congregation, try to break it up, gather their own followers and lead them away from the Church that professes and practices true Biblical teachings.

    That is why it is essential for every Christian Believer to be well grounded in God’s Word, and learn at least the basic teachings necessary for spiritual growth and Christian living. In the next article we will see one more aspect of the gospel from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, and then we will take up the second topic of elementary principles.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    यह समझने के लिए कि शैतान किस तरह से कलीसिया तथा मसीही विश्वासियों की मण्डलियों में अपने लोगों को घुसा देता है, हम बाइबल से कुछ ऐसे लोगों के उदाहरणों को देख रहे हैं जो प्रभु यीशु के अनुयायी तथा मसीही विश्वासी होने का दावा करते थे, किन्तु वास्तविकता में थे नहीं। अन्ततः उनकी सच्चाई प्रकट हो गई और वे प्रभु की तथा प्रभु के लोगों की संगति में बने नहीं रहे, चले गए। पिछले लेखों के उदाहरणों के द्वारा हमने ऐसे लोगों के कुछ लक्षणों को देखा है। अभी तक हमने तीन प्रकार के नकली-विश्वासियों के बारे में देखा है – पहले वे हैं जो परमेश्वर के वचन को ग्रहण करने वाले तो प्रतीत होते हैं, किन्तु उनका प्रभु के लिए निष्फल होना उनकी वास्तविकता को प्रकट कर देता है; दूसरे वे हैं, जो प्रभु की कुछ शिक्षाओं को स्वीकार करने से इनकार कर देते हैं, क्योंकि उन शिक्षाओं से उन्हें ठोकर लगती है, वे इस बात की अनदेखी कर देते हैं कि ये शिक्षाएँ देने वाला सर्वज्ञानी, कभी गलती न करने वाला, हमेशा सही और अटल रहने वाला सार्वभौमिक प्रभु परमेश्वर है जो कभी कुछ गलत नहीं कह या कर सकता है; और तीसरा जिसे हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है वे लोग हैं जो यहूदा इस्करियोती के समान हैं, जिसने प्रभु के साथ निकट संगति में समय बिताया, अन्य शिष्यों के समान प्रभु द्वारा सामर्थ्य को प्राप्त किया, किन्तु कभी भी वास्तविक शिष्य नहीं बना, और अन्ततः, अनन्त विनाश में चला गया। आज हम एक और व्यक्ति के उदाहरण को देखेंगे, जिसने लगता था कि पापों से पश्चाताप किया है और विश्वासियों के साथ जुड़ गया है, उनके साथ रहता था, किन्तु वास्तविकता में अभी भी अपने पापों में ही था, और परमेश्वर को साँसारिक लाभ प्राप्त करने के लिए उपयोग करना चाहता था – शमौन टोना करने वाला।

    प्रेरितों 8 अध्याय में फिलिप्पुस की सामरिया के एक नगर में सेवकाई का वर्णन दिया गया है, जहाँ उसने न केवल सुसमाचार का प्रचार किया, वरन चंगाई भी की और दुष्ट-आत्माओं को भी निकाला। फिलिप्पुस की उस सेवकाई से उस नगर में बहुत आनन्द हुआ (प्रेरितों 8:5-8)। उसी नगर में शमौन नाम का एक व्यक्ति भी रहता था, जो टोना करता था, लोग उसे परमेश्वर की शक्ति वाला मानते थे, और लोगों पर उसका बहुत प्रभाव था (प्रेरितों 8:9-11)। लेकिन फिलिप्पुस की सेवकाई के द्वारा वहाँ पर परिस्थितियाँ बदल गईं, और अन्य लोगों के समान, शमौन टोना करने वाले ने भी विश्वास किया, उसका बपतिस्मा हुआ, और वह फिलिप्पुस के साथ संगति में रहने लगा (प्रेरितों 8:12-13)। शमौन के फिलिप्पुस के साथ रहने के कारण, बहुत संभव है कि अब उसके पास टोना करने का अवसर नहीं होता होगा, इसलिए हो सकता है कि उसने टोना करना बन्द कर दिया हो। सामरिया के इस नगर में हुए इस काम की चर्चा को सुनकर यरूशलेम के प्रेरितों ने पतरस और यूहन्ना को वहाँ भेजा। जब वे लोग आए, तो उन्होंने लोगों के पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रार्थना की, और प्रार्थना के बाद जब पतरस और यूहन्ना ने विश्वासियों पर अपने हाथ रखे, तो उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त हुआ (प्रेरितों 8:14-17)। यह ध्यान देने योग्य है कि ऐसा कोई उल्लेख  नहीं है कि शमौन भी हाथ रखवाने के लिए आया, या उसे भी पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त हुआ; किन्तु आगे की घटनाओं से यही प्रतीत होता है कि ऐसा नहीं हुआ।

    लेकिन पतरस और यूहन्ना के द्वारा जो हो रहा था, शमौन उस से बहुत प्रभावित हुआ, और संभवतः उसे कमाई का एक नया और अद्भुत अवसर दिखाई देने लगा। यद्यपि यह कहीं नहीं कहा गया है कि उसने टोना करना बन्द किया था या नहीं, किन्तु क्योंकि अब लोग सच्चे परमेश्वर की ओर मुड़ गए थे, इसलिए उन्होंने उसके पास जाना बन्द कर दिया होगा। और क्योंकि शमौन भी फिलिप्पुस की संगति में रहता था, तो उसे भी जो वह पहले किया करता था उसे करने का अवसर नहीं रहता होगा। शमौन ने प्रेरितों, पतरस और यूहन्ना, से बात की, उन्हें पैसे देकर उन से यह अधिकार लेना चाहा कि वह भी जिस किसी पर हाथ रखे उसे पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त हो जाए (प्रेरितों 8:18-19)। इससे शमौन की वास्तविकता प्रकट हो गई, क्योंकि इसके लिए पतरस उसे अच्छे से डांट लगाता है, उससे पश्चाताप करने तथा इस बुराई से छुड़ाए जाने के लिए परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करने के लिए कहता है (प्रेरितों 8:20-23)। अजीब बात यह है कि शमौन ने ऐसा नहीं किया, बल्कि उसने केवल प्रेरितों से ही उसके लिए प्रार्थना करने के लिए कहा कि वह अपनी बुराई के परिणामों से बच जाए (प्रेरितों 8:24)।

    इसके बाद क्या हुआ और अन्ततः शमौन का क्या हुआ, इसका कोई उल्लेख नहीं है; हम उसके बारे में यही अनुमान लगा सकते हैं कि उसने सम्भवतः टोना करना छोड़ दिया था। उसने बपतिस्मा लिया था, वह फिलिप्पुस के साथ रहता था, उस सुसमाचार प्रचारक से परमेश्वर का वचन सुनता था, विश्वासियों के साथ संगति करता था, लेकिन फिर भी अपने मन में वह अभी भी अपरिवर्तित ही था। वह अभी भी पैसे के लोभ और सँसार की वस्तुओं के प्रेम से बन्धा हुआ था, और यहाँ तक कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा को भी अपनी अधीनता में उपयोग करना चाहता था; और ये सभी एक अपरिवर्तित जीवन के लक्षण हैं (1 तीमुथियुस 6:10; 1 यूहन्ना 2:15-17; याकूब 4:2-4)। यह बहुत अचरज की बात है कि यद्यपि शमौन को उसकी वास्तविक स्थिति के बारे में बताया गया था, और उसे अवसर प्रदान किया गया कि वह पश्चाताप करे तथा परमेश्वर से क्षमा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रार्थना करे, किन्तु फिर भी उस अवसर का सदुपयोग करने की बजाए, उसने स्वयं प्रार्थना नहीं की केवल एक औपचारिकता पूरी करने के समान प्रेरितों से ही कह दिया कि वे ही उसके लिए प्रार्थना कर दें।

    यह कुछ उस के समान है जो यहूदा इस्करियोती ने किया था। प्रभु के लिए मृत्यु दण्ड घोषित किये जाने के बाद, यहूदा अपने किए के लिए पछताया और इसके लिए महायाजकों और पुरनियों के पास गया, उनके सामने अपने पाप को माना; किन्तु प्रभु के पास क्षमा मांगने के लिए नहीं गया। यदि वह पश्चाताप के साथ प्रभु के पास आया होता, तो कहानी बिलकुल बदल जाती। किन्तु उन धार्मिक अगुवों से यहूदा को न तो क्षमा और न ही कोई सहानुभूति मिली। दुर्भाग्यवश, एक बार फिर उसने अपनी ही इच्छा के अनुसार वह किया जो उसे सही लगा। बजाए उसे याद करने के और उसके अनुसार करने के जो उसने प्रभु को अनेकों बार करते देखा था – पश्चातापी लोगों को क्षमा देते हुए, और इस आशा के साथ पश्चाताप के साथ प्रभु के पास आने के, उसने जाकर स्वयं को फाँसी लगा ली (मत्ती 27:1-5), और बिना पापों की क्षमा पाए हुए ही मर गया। जिस प्रकार से यहूदा कठोर मन का व्यक्ति था, शमौन भी कठोर मन का व्यक्ति था, स्वयं के अनन्त जीवन के प्रति भी।

    ये उदाहरण सच्चे परिवर्तन के लिए वास्तविक पश्चाताप की अनिवार्यता के महत्व को दिखाते हैं। सच्चा पश्चाताप किए बिना, और परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता की इच्छा और उसमें विश्वास करना उत्पन्न नहीं होता है। पतरस तथा अन्य शिष्यों ने भी उसे अकेला छोड़ कर भाग जाने के द्वारा प्रभु का इनकार किया था। किन्तु क्योंकि उन्होंने प्रभु जो था उसमें वास्तविक विश्वास किया था, और वे प्रभु के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित थे, इसलिए ठोकर खाने के बाद भी वे परिस्थिति से बाहर आ सके और सेवकाई में बहाल किये गए। केवल बाहरी रीतियों के निर्वाह के द्वारा और मसीही विश्वासियों के समान व्यवहार करने के द्वारा, कोई परिवर्तित हुआ नहीं माना जा सकता है। अन्ततः, सभी की वास्तविक दशा प्रकट हो ही जाती है। इसलिए जब समय और अवसर उपलब्ध है, जब परमेश्वर का वचन व्यक्ति को कायल कर रहा है, तो किसी को भी लापरवाह होकर उचित कार्य करने को करना टालना नहीं चाहिए, कहीं बहुत देर न हो जाए (इब्रानियों 3:12-19)।

    अगले लेख में हम कुछ और ऐसे लोगों के उदाहरण देखेंगे जो प्रभु और कलीसिया से दूर हो गए, बाहर चले गए।

    To understand how Satan infiltrates the Church and the congregation of Christian Believers, we are considering some Biblical examples of those claimed to be the followers of the Lord Jesus, Christian Believers, but actually were not. Eventually, they were exposed and they did not continue in fellowship with the Lord and His people, went away. Through the examples in the previous articles, we have seen some characteristics of such people. So far we have seen three kinds of such pseudo-believers – one are those who appear to receive God’s Word, but their being unfruitful for the Lord exposes their true self; second are those who are unwilling to accept some teachings of the Lord, since they feel offended by them, overlooking the fact that the one giving these teachings is the inerrant, omniscient, always true, the Sovereign Lord God, who can never be wrong; and the third that we saw in the previous article are those like Judas Iscariot, who spent time in close fellowship with the Lord, was empowered by the Lord as the others were, but never truly became the Lord’s disciple, and eventually went into eternal destruction. Today we will consider the example of another person, who seemingly repented of sins and joined the Believers, moved around with them, but actually was still in his sins, and wanted to use God for temporal gains – Simon the sorcerer.

    In Acts 8 is given the account of Philip’s ministry in a city of Samaria, where he not only preached the gospel to them but also healed and cast out demons from many people. The ministry of Philip brought great joy to that city (Acts 8:5-8). In that city lived a person by the name of Simon, who practised sorcery, was considered a man of god, and had a great influence over the people of the city (Acts 8:9-11). But things changed with Philip’s ministry there, and like the others, Simon the sorcerer also believed, and was baptized and continued in fellowship with Philip (Acts 8:12-13). Simon’s continuing with Philip, quite likely, would not have given him any opportunity to continue practising his sorcery, so, may be, he had stopped doing sorcery. On hearing of this work in the city of Samaria, the Apostles in Jerusalem, sent Peter and John there. When they came, they prayed for the people that they may receive the Holy Spirit, and having prayed, when Peter and John laid their hands on the Believers, they received the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-17). Notably, it is not mentioned that Simon too came forth for the laying of hands, or that he received the Holy Spirit; but quite likely from the turn of events this did not happen.

    But Simon was fascinated by what happened through Peter and John, and apparently, he saw a new and great business opportunity. Though there is no mention whether or not he had actually given up his sorcery, but now since the people had turned to the real God, and so they would have stopped coming to him, and since Simon was in the company of Philip, so he would not have been able to do what he did earlier. Simon approached the Apostles, Peter and John, offered them money, and asked them to given him this power of being able to provide the Holy Spirit to those on whom he would lay hands (Acts 8:18-19). This is how Simon’s real state was exposed, for Peter severely reprimands him, and asks him to repent and pray to be delivered from his wickedness, since he was poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity (Acts 8:20-23). The strange thing is that Simon did not do so, instead, he only asked the apostles to pray for him to the Lord and help him escape from the consequences of his wrong (Acts 8:24).

    There is no mention of what happened next, and what eventually happened to Simon; what we can surmise is that though he possibly had given up sorcery. He had taken baptism, was moving around with Philip, listened to preaching of God’s Word through God’s evangelist, fellowshipped with the Believers, yet in his heart he had remained unregenerated. He was still caught up with the love of money and of the things of the world, and he even wanted to use God the Holy Spirit for himself; all of which are signs of an unregenerated life (1 Timothy 6:10; 1 John 2:15-17; James 4:2-4). What is most surprising is that though Simon was told of his true condition, and opportunity was given to him to repent and pray about it to God for forgiveness, yet instead of taking that opportunity, he perfunctorily only asked the apostles to pray for him, instead of doing it himself.

    This is something like what Judas Iscariot had done, after the Lord had been given the death sentence; then Judas showed remorse about it and went to chief priests and elders, confessed his sin to them; but never went to the Lord for forgiveness. Had he come to the Lord in repentance, the story would have been totally different. But Judas did not receive any forgiveness or even sympathy from the religious leaders. Unfortunately, he once again took matters into his own hands, he once again did that which seemed right to him. Instead of remembering and doing according to what he had seen the Lord do many times, i.e., forgiving the repentant, and on that basis having hope and going to the Lord in repentance, he went and hanged himself (Matthew 27:1-5) and died an unforgiven man. Just as Judas was hard-hearted, Simon too was hard-hearted, even about his own eternal future.

    These examples underscore the importance of sincere repentance for true regeneration. Without true repentance, the desire to obey God, to trust in Him does not come. Peter too had denied the Lord, and so had the other disciples in running away from Him and leaving Him alone. But because they had truly believed in who the Lord was, and were actually fully surrendered to Him, so, despite their faltering, they could come out of the situation and be restored. Merely going through the external rituals and appearances, living and behaving like a Christian Believer, does not constitute regeneration. Eventually, sooner or later, the true state is exposed. Therefore, while there is time and opportunity, and God’s Word is convicting the person, no one should be careless and post-pone doing the needful i.e., truly repent and turn to the Lord in complete surrender, before it is too late (Hebrews 3:12-19).

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
