“बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो” को समझना – 3

 

    नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों के, परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए प्रावधानों और विशेषाधिकारों का भण्डारी होने का अध्ययन करते हुए, वर्तमान में हम विश्वासियों के पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए वरदानों का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। ये वरदान विश्वासियों को मसीही जीवन जीने और परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें सौंपी गई सेवकाइयों का उचित निर्वाह करने के लिए दिए गए हैं। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपी गई सभी सेवकाइयाँ और पवित्र आत्मा के सभी वरदान समान स्तर के ही हैं; कोई भी किसी भी अन्य से ‘छोटा’ नहीं है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाइयों और उन से सम्बन्धित पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों को ‘कमतर’ या ‘बेहतर’ देखना अथवा समझना शैतान की एक ऐसी युक्ति में फँसना है जो परमेश्वर के चरित्र और गुणों पर ही हमला करती है। हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ही, और केवल वह ही है जो यह निर्धारित करता है कि किसे कौन सा वरदान दिया जाना है। शैतान ने कुछ लोगों के द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 की गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग करवा के यह प्रचार और शिक्षा फैला रखी है कि ‘बड़े से बड़े’ वरदानों की भी एक श्रेणी है और विश्वासियों को उनकी लालसा करने और उन्हें प्राप्त करने में लगे रहना चाहिए। इसके द्वारा शैतान ने बहुतेरों को उनकी सेवकाई में लगे रहने के स्थान पर, व्यर्थ बातों में लगे रहने में फँसा दिया है। इस पद को उसके सन्दर्भ में देखने के द्वार हमने इस धारणा के गलत होने को समझा था; और हमने यह भी देखा था कि ‘बड़े’ वरदान से तात्पर्य उन वरदानों से है जो कलीसिया या विश्वासियों की मण्डली में सर्वाधिक उपयोग होते हैं, अर्थात, यह पद वास्तव में जो कह रहा है वह है कि विश्वासियों को वह लोग होने की लालसा करनी चाहिए जो कलीसिया और मण्डली के लोगों के मध्य सेवा के लिए सर्वाधिक उपयोग किए जाते हैं। आज हम इसी के बारे में और आगे देखेंगे, और ‘बड़े’ वरदानों की इस समझ की एक और पुष्टि उस के सन्दर्भ से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य पद के द्वारा देखेंगे।

    आत्मिक वरदानों के प्रयोग से संबंधित इस अध्याय का एक और महत्वपूर्ण पद है “और परमेश्वर ने कलीसिया में अलग अलग व्यक्ति नियुक्त किए हैं; प्रथम प्रेरित, दूसरे भविष्यद्वक्ता, तीसरे शिक्षक, फिर सामर्थ्य के काम करने वाले, फिर चंगा करने वाले, और उपकार करने वाले, और प्रधान, और नाना प्रकार की भाषा बोलने वाले” (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:28), और यहाँ पर आत्मिक वरदानों का प्रयोग करने वालों को पवित्र आत्मा ने एक क्रम-संख्या के साथ, एक निर्धारित वरीयता-क्रम के अनुसार लिखवाया है। रोचक बात है कि पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से गलत शिक्षाएं देने वालों में सर्वाधिक प्रचलित और माँग किया जाने वाला वरदान - अन्य भाषा बोलना, यहाँ दिए गए क्रम में सबसे अंत में रखा गया है; अर्थात कलीसिया में इस वरदान का तुलनात्मक रीति से स्थान बहुत बाद में, अंत में आता है। यह नहीं कि यह वरदान कम महत्वपूर्ण है या छोटा अथवा गौण है, वरन इसलिए क्योंकि किसी भी स्थानीय मण्डली के कार्यों में इसकी उपयोग किया जाना अन्यों की तुलना में उतना अधिक नहीं है - क्योंकि इसका उपयोग तब ही होगा जब कोई ऐसा परदेशी प्रचारक, जो स्थानीय भाषा नहीं जानता है, आए और वचन की सेवकाई करे; तब ही उस भाषा को जानने वाला अनुवाद करने के लिए उपयोग में आएगा; किन्तु तब उस स्थिति में, जिसके पास उस भाषा का यह वरदान है उसका बहुत महत्व और उपयोगिता होगी। अन्यथा मण्डली के प्रतिदिन के सामान्य कार्यों के लिए इस वरदान की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। 

    इस वरदान से ठीक पहले, अर्थात वरदानों के क्रम में अंत की ओर, एक और ऐसा वरदान है, सामान्यतः मनुष्य जिसकी आज बहुत लालसा रखते हैं, जिसे प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं - “प्रधान” (अँग्रेज़ी में administrations) होना, अर्थात कलीसिया या मण्डली में, कार्यों को नियोजित करने और प्रबंधन करने का स्थान। आज इसे औरों पर अधिकार रखने और अधिकार दिखाने, अपने आप को ऊंचा और दूसरों को नियंत्रित कर सकने वाला दिखाने के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है। किन्तु उपयोगिता के दृष्टिकोण से इस वरदान की वरीयता भी अन्य की तुलना में अंत की ओर ही है। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि उस आरंभिक मसीही मण्डली के समय में लोग प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिक्षाओं को गंभीरता से लेते और उनका पालन करते थे। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा था, “तब उसने बैठकर बारहों को बुलाया, और उन से कहा, यदि कोई बड़ा होना चाहे, तो सब से छोटा और सब का सेवक बने” (मरकुस 9:35)। इसलिए उस पहली कलीसिया के समय में “प्रधान” (या administrator) होने का तात्पर्य था वास्तव में सब से छोटा होना और सब का सेवक होना, जो इस वरदान और कार्य से संबंधित आज के व्यवहार के बिलकुल विपरीत है; इसलिए उस समय इसके लिए कोई होड़ भी नहीं रहती थी।

    उपयोगिता के अनुसार दिए गए वरीयता के क्रम के मध्य में “सामर्थ्य के काम करने वाले, फिर चंगा करने वाले, और उपकार करने वाले” दिए गए हैं। किन्तु प्राथमिक स्थान वचन की सेवकाई से संबंधित काम करने वालों का है “प्रथम प्रेरित, दूसरे भविष्यद्वक्ता, तीसरे शिक्षक”; अर्थात, परमेश्वर के दृष्टिकोण से, मण्डली के कार्यों और सेवकाई के लिए, मण्डली की उन्नति के लिए सबसे अधिक उपयोगिता परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई करने वालों, वचन को ठीक से सिखाने और समझाने वालों की है। यह 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 के प्रति एक और दृष्टिकोण प्रदान करता है, जिसका बहुधा ‘बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की लालसा करो’ सिखाने के लिए दुरुपयोग किया जाता है। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि इसका वास्तविक अर्थ है कलीसिया या मण्डली में सर्वाधिक उपयोग होने वाले बनो। अब हम और बेहतर समझ सकते हैं कि ये ‘बड़े से बड़े वरदान’ ‘अन्य भाषा बोलना,’ या ‘आश्चर्यकर्म करना’ नहीं हैं, वरन परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई से सम्बन्धित कार्यों में लगे रहना हैं। इन प्राथमिक महत्व की सेवकाइयों के वरदानों के उचित निर्वाह के लिए व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ और प्रार्थना में समय बिताना होता है, न कि दूसरों पर अधिकार जमाने और अधिकार दिखाने में लगे रहना होता है। प्रेरितों 6:1-7 में आरंभिक मण्डली की एक घटना दी गई है, जो मण्डली में विवाद और मतभेद का कारण बन रही थी। किन्तु प्रेरितों ने उसके कारण प्रार्थना और वचन की सेवा करने के महत्व के साथ कोई समझौता नहीं किया; उन्होंने कलीसिया के ‘प्रधान’ होने की ज़िम्मेदारी अपने ऊपर नहीं ले ली, वरन उसे औरों को दे दिया। नि:सन्देह, उन्होंने समस्या को सुलझाने के लिए समाधान बताया, किन्तु अपनी सेवकाई की थोड़े समय के लिए भी अनदेखी नहीं की, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप “परमेश्वर का वचन फैलता गया और यरूशलेम में चेलों की गिनती बहुत बढ़ती गई; और याजकों का एक बड़ा समाज इस मत के आधीन हो गया” (प्रेरितों 6:7)। 

    यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो, आपकी प्राथमिकताएं क्या हैं? क्या परमेश्वर के वचन में दृढ़ और स्थापित होना, उसे दूसरों तक उसके सही स्वरूप में पहुँचाना आपकी इच्छा और प्राथमिकता है, या आप भी दिखने में बहुत प्रभावी किन्तु मण्डली के लिए उपयोगिता में कम वरीयता रखने वाली बातों के पीछे पड़े हैं? अपनी सेवकाई और अपने वरदान को पहचानिए; प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी बनिए। 

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Understanding Earnestly Desire the “Best Gifts” – 3

 

    In studying are the stewardship of Born-Again Christian Believers towards their God given provisions and privileges, we are presently considering the Believer’s being stewards of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, given to them to live their Christian lives and worthily fulfill their God assigned ministries. We have seen that all the God given ministries and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are equal; none is lesser in any way from another. Looking upon God assigned ministries and their related gifts of the Holy Spirit as ‘lesser’ or ‘better’ than another is to fall into a satanic error that attacks the very characteristics and attributes of God. We have also seen that it is God the Holy Spirit, and He alone, who decides which gifts to give to whom; neither does any one person have every one of the spiritual gifts, nor has one particular gift been given to everyone. Through misinterpretation and misuse of 1 Corinthians 12:31, Satan has made some people preach and teach that there is a category of gifts referred to as ‘best gifts’ and the Believers should be engaged in desiring them and acquiring them. Through this, Satan has deviated many into vain efforts, instead of being engaged in fulfilling their ministries. Through looking at this verse in its context, we seen the fallacy of this notion; and we have seen that the ‘best gifts’ refers to gifts most often utilized in the Church and amongst Believers, therefore, what this verse is actually saying is the Believers should desire to be one of those who are utilized most often in the services and utilities of the Church amongst the congregation. Today we will further look at this and see another confirmation of this meaning of ‘best gifts’ through another contextual verse.

    There is another important verse in this chapter, related to the utility and using of the Spiritual gifts: “And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues” (1 Corinthians 12:28). In this verse, the Holy Spirit has sequentially written down the various ministries for utilizing the Spiritual gifts, with a serial number, placing them in a sequential order. It is interesting to note from this list of the Holy Spirit, the most popular gift, and the gift most in demand by those who spread wrong doctrines and false teachings about the Holy Spirit, i.e., speaking in ‘tongues,’ has been placed as the last gift. In other words, in a comparative manner, this gift is of the least utility in the Church. This is not to say that this gift is less important or lesser than the rest, but in order of frequency of its use, in its utility in any Church, it is not used as frequently as the others. This is because this gift will only be used when some outside preacher who does not know the local language comes, and is used for the Word Ministry; it will only be in such a situation that the one who has this gift of that language will be utilized, not otherwise; but then in that particular situation, the one with this gift will be very important and useful. Otherwise, in the day-to-day functioning of the local assembly or Church, this gift of ‘tongues’ has no use.

    Another thing to note is that towards the end of this list of Spiritual gifts, as the second-last gift is another Spiritual gift that generally speaking most members of the Church often desire and want to have - the gift of “administrations”; i.e., the position and status in the Church or congregation to decide and manage the Church. Today, this is seen as something that enables a person to have control or authority over others, and is often used to show-off as being superior to others, as one who has charge over others. But from the point of view of utility or frequency of use, the sequential position of this gift is also towards the end, i.e., this Spiritual gift is also one of the least used ones. This is because in those initial Church congregations, the people took the teachings and instructions of the Lord Jesus very seriously, and diligently followed them. Their priority was not “administering” the Church, but preaching the Gospel to the ends of the earth at any cost (Acts 1:8; 8:4; 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10). The Lord Jesus had told His disciples, “And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all"” (Mark 9:35). Therefore, in those initial Church congregations, to be an “administrator” meant to be least of all and a servant of others; which is absolutely the opposite of what this gift is seen and used as, and therefore so earnestly desired.

    In the middle of this verse, in order of utility and use, the gifts mentioned are “miracles, then gifts of healings, helps.” But the first three positions, i.e., the gifts most in use in the Church are those related to the Word Ministry, “first apostles, second prophets, third teachers.” In other words, from God’s perspective, for the work and ministry of the Church, for the growth and benefit of the Church, the most useful, the best ministry is of those who can teach and preach the Word of God to the congregation. This also gives another perspective to 1 Corinthians 12:31, often misused for saying “desire the best gifts.” We have seen earlier that it is meant to say desire to have the gifts for the best utilization in the Church. Now we can better understand what those “best gifts” are - not the ‘speaking in tongues’, or the gift of doing miracles, but the gifts of being engaged in the ministry of God’s Word. To be diligent in ministering these primary gifts requires that a person be continually engaged in studying God’s Word and in prayers, instead of showing off to people and exercising authority over them. In Acts 6:1-7 an incident of the initial Church is recorded, which became a cause for contention in the congregation. But because of that, the Apostles did not compromise on their ministry of prayers and study of God’s Word, did not take up “administration” of the Church, but gave it to others. They did guide and show the way and the solution, but did not neglect their own ministry even for a short while. The result was that “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith” (Acts 6:7).

    If you are a Christian Believer, then what are your priorities? Is being strong and established in the Word of God, taking God’s Word in its true form, with its correct interpretation to others, spreading the Gospel, your desire and priority? Or, you too are desirous of the seemingly impressive Spiritual gifts, that are actually very low down in their utility in the Church? Recognize your ministry and put to use your gift; become useful for the Lord God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने कोई न कोई आत्मिक वरदान दिया है कि वह परमेश्वर के द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई को उचित रीति से पूरा कर सके। यद्यपि परमेश्वर का वचन यह दिखाता और सिखाता है कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में उसकी सभी सन्तान और उनकी सेवकाइयाँ समान स्तर के हैं, किन्तु कुछ लोग 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 की गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग के द्वारा यह प्रचार करते और सिखाते हैं कि कुछ सेवकाइयाँ और वरदान अन्य से बेहतर, बढ़कर, और अधिक चाहने योग्य हैं। इस धारणा को स्वीकार करने, इसे मान लेने के बहुत गंभीर निहितार्थ हैं, जो परमेश्वर के चरित्र और गुणों पर हमला करते हैं। आज हम इसे कुछ विस्तार से देखेंगे।

    साथ ही वरदानों के स्तर और श्रेणियों में भिन्नता होने को स्वीकार करने की एक स्वाभाविक मानवीय प्रतिक्रिया होती है कि जो “पाया है’ वालों में से हैं, वे अपने आप को उच्च श्रेणी का, बेहतर विश्वासी समझेंगे, ऐसे लोग जिनकी योग्यता तथा सेवकाई में प्रभावी होना औरों से बढ़कर है, और इसलिए परमेश्वर से उन्हें मिलने वाले प्रतिफल और आशीषें भी विशेष होंगे, ‘नहीं पाया हुआ’ वालों को मिलने वालों से और उत्तम होंगे। ये ‘पाया हुआ’ वाले, जान-बूझते हुए या अनजाने में, अपने बारे में, अपनी सेवकाई के बारे में, और अपने प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी होने के बारे में, एक आत्मिक घमण्ड में आ जाएँगे। यह प्रभु के लिए उनके कार्य और उनकी सेवकाई के लिए हानिकारक हो जाएगा क्योंकि प्रभु परमेश्वर किसी भी प्रकार के घमण्ड को स्वीकार अथवा सहन नहीं करता है, घमण्ड करने वाले के साथ कोई काम नहीं करता है। इस कारण ये लोग फिर शैतान के हाथों में कठपुतली बनकर रह जाएंगे, जो यही समझते रहेंगे कि वे प्रभु के लिए काम कर रहे हैं, किन्तु उनकी सेवकाई और कार्य उनके घमण्ड के कारण व्यर्थ और निष्फल होंगे। दूसरी ओर, जो ‘नहीं पाया हुआ’ वाले हैं, वे इन ‘उत्कृष्ट विश्वासियों’ के समान होने, इन ‘पाया हुआ’ वालों में सम्मिलित होने के व्यर्थ प्रयासों में पड़ जाएँगे। वे अपनी निर्धारित सेवकाई और कार्य को करने और प्रभु में उन्नति करने के बजाए, इस “बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो” के अनुचित चक्करों में पड़ जाएँगे, ‘पाया हुआ’ वालों में सम्मिलित होने की लालसा में अपनी निर्धारित सेवकाई ठीक से न करने के कारण अपने प्रतिफलों और आशीषों की हानि कर लेंगे।

    दोनों ही, ‘पाया हुआ’ और ‘नहीं पाया हुआ’ तरह के विश्वासियों के लिए परिणाम समान ही होगा। दोनों ही अपनी आत्मिक परिपक्वता और प्रभु के लिए उपयोगिता से गिर जाएँगे। कलीसिया में ईर्ष्या, ‘बड़े से बड़े वरदानों’ और सम्बन्धित सेवकाइयों का लालच करना, मतभेद, एक-दूसरे को ऊँचा-नीचा होने या देखने की प्रवृत्ति, कलह, और विभाजन हो जाएंगे (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:10-13; 3:1-3)। कलीसिया में और विश्वासियों में घमण्ड के इस खेल में हार केवल सुसमाचार प्रचार और प्रसार की ही होगी। ऐसे “विश्वासियों” के जीवन, व्यवहार, और गवाही को देखकर, जो या तो अपने “बड़े से बड़े” वरदानों की प्रदर्शनी करने में लगे हुए हैं, या जो उनके लालच और उन्हें पाने की लालसा के अन्तर्गत काम करने में लगे हुए हैं, लोगों को केवल प्रेम, एक-मनता, समानता और उद्धार के सुसमाचार को सुनने और मानने से निरुत्साहित ही करेगी; और जीत शैतान ही की होगी।

Understanding Earnestly Desire the “Best Gifts” – 2

 

    Every Born-Again Christian Believer has received some spiritual gift or the other from God the Holy Spirit to help him worthily fulfil his God assigned ministry. Although, God’s Word shows and teaches that in God’s eyes all of His children, and their ministries are of the same status, but some people misinterpret and misuse 1 Corinthians 12:31 to teach and preach about some ministries and gifts being better, superior, and more desirable than others. There are serious implications of this notion that the attack the character and attributes of God, and accepting this notion, believing in it denigrates God. We will consider this today in some detail.

    If this interpretation of gifts and ministries being of greater and lesser importance and some being better than the others is accepted, then it creates divisions in the Church and amongst Believers, on the grounds of a Believer either being one of the ‘haves’ i.e., one of those people who have the ‘greater’ or ‘more important’ or ‘better’ gifts; or being one of the ‘have nots’ i.e., those people who have the ‘lesser’ or ‘less important’ or ‘inferior’ gifts in the Church. Since 1 Corinthians 12:11 categorically states that it is the Holy Spirit who decides which gift to give to whom, this then implies that He does this arbitrarily, i.e., in doing so there is favoritism or partiality in God the Holy Spirit – for in the Church of God, to some of God’s children He has arbitrarily chosen to give ‘greater’ or ‘more important’ or ‘better’ gifts, and to other of God’s children He has arbitrarily chosen to give the ‘lesser’ or ‘less important’ or ‘inferior’ gifts. Or, if the Holy Spirit has given the gifts according to the ministry assigned by God, then the same argument of being arbitrary and showing favoritism and partiality gets transferred to God who decided on each Believer’s ministry and work. In either case, it brings an untenable accusation against God of His being unfair and arbitrary.

    Moreover, accepting a differentiation in the status and category of gifts, then naturally leads to the human tendency that the ‘haves’ will think of themselves of being superior or of a better category, being people with better ability and effectivity in ministry, and therefore having a claim to better rewards and blessings from God than the ‘have nots.’ Intentionally or unintentionally, these ‘haves’ will develop a spiritual pride about themselves, about their ministry, and about their being useful for the Lord. This will be counterproductive in their ministry and work for the Lord, since and the Lord God can neither accept, nor tolerate, nor work with any pride. This will effectively reduce them to being nothing more that puppets in the hands of Satan, i.e., of people working in the name of the Lord but not accomplishing anything for the Lord God because of the pride within them. This division will also drive the ‘have nots’ into making vain efforts to join these ‘elite Believers,’ the ‘haves’, so that they too can receive similar status, blessings and rewards. So now, the ‘haves’ will live with a sense of spiritual superiority and pride, and will try to dominate the ‘have nots’; while the ‘have nots’ instead of working for the Lord in their ministries, and growing in the Lord will be spending their time and efforts to “earnestly desire the best gifts” and catch up with the ‘haves.’

    The net result will be the same for either of the Christian Believers, whether one of the ‘haves’ or of the ‘have-nots.’ Both will fall and fail in their spiritual maturity and effectiveness for the Lord. There will be jealousy, coveting of gifts and ministries, disagreements, feelings of superiority-inferiority, quarrels, and the Church breaking up (1 Corinthians 1:10-13; 3:1-3). The only looser because of this game of vanity in the Church and amongst the Believers will be the preaching and propagation of the Gospel. The lives, activities, and witness of these “Believers” engaged in either showing off their “best gifts,” or earnestly desiring and working to acquire the “best gifts” will only serve to discourage people from listening to and accepting the Gospel of love, unity, and uniformity, and salvation; and Satan would be the winner.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    हमारे वर्तमान अध्ययन के सन्दर्भ में, और विश्वासियों के परमेश्वर के प्रावधानों के भण्डारी होने के नाते, पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर चाहता है कि सभी मसीही विश्वासी पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिए जाने वाले आत्मिक वरदानों के बारे में सीखें और उनके बारे में सही समझ रखें। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि परमेश्वर द्वारा उन के लिए निर्धारित सेवकाई के अनुसार सभी मसीही विश्वासियों को उपयुक्त आत्मिक वरदान दिए जाते हैं। परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में न तो कोई सेवकाई छोटी अथवा बड़ी है, और न ही कोई आत्मिक वरदान बड़ा या प्रमुख, अथवा, छोटा या गौण है। इस प्रकार की भिन्नता या भेदभाव करना मनुष्य की प्रवृत्ति एवं भावना है, परमेश्वर की नहीं। इस विषय के लिए, 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 को बहुधा वरदानों के बड़े या छोटे होने के समर्थन में उपयोग किया जाता है, जो इस पद की सही व्याख्या नहीं है। इसलिए, हमें इस पद को उसके संदर्भ में सही समझना आवश्यक है।

    यदि इस पद को वरदानों और सेवकाइयों में बड़े-छोटे स्तर और महत्व होने के लिए समझा जाए तो फिर पद 12-27 में दी गई चर्चा व्यर्थ है; फिर तो प्रभु की मण्डली रूपी देह में सभी समान स्तर रखने वाले या समान महत्व के नहीं हैं, और पवित्र आत्मा ने बड़े या छोटे आत्मिक वरदान देने के द्वारा विश्वासियों में भेद-भाव किया है। और यह बात परमेश्वर के स्वरूप और वचन की शिक्षाओं के साथ बिल्कुल मेल नहीं खाती है, इसलिए स्वीकार्य भी नहीं है। हम इस भेद-भाव के निहितार्थों को अगले लेख में कुछ विस्तार से देखेंगे।

Understanding “Earnestly Desire the Best Gifts” – 1

 

    In the previous article we had seen that as stewards of God’s provisions, and in context of our present study, all God desires that Christian Believers should learn and have a correct understanding about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We had also seen that for help in carrying out their God assigned works and ministry, every Believer is given gifts appropriate to their requirement. In God’s eyes, no ministry is small or big, nor of greater or lesser importance; and no spiritual gift is of greater or lesser importance. Thinking in terms of such differentiation is man’s tendency, not God’s. A verse that is often misinterpreted and misused to support this concept of gifts being greater or lesser is 1 Corinthians 12:31. Therefore, it is essential to understand this verse in its context and properly.

    Consider the context through the preceding verses 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, where Paul through using the human body as a metaphor has concluded that in the body all the parts are of equal importance, and their utility, presence, and functioning is equally essential in the location they have been placed. Similarly, in the Church - the body of Christ, all Christian Believers, with their different gifts and ministries, are equally important in their respective positions and for works assigned to them. No Christian Believer, and no one’s ministry or gift is greater or lesser in comparison to the others, and their works are also of equal importance, no work is more or less important. Then after this, in verse 28 Paul mentions the various responsibilities, ministries, and works in that one body, i.e., the Church of the Lord Jesus. After this, in verses 29-30, Paul through his rhetorical questions emphasizes that everybody has not been given the same responsibility, nor has anyone been given all of the responsibilities; everyone has to fulfil their own given responsibility. It is then, in verse 31, that he uses the phrase “the best gifts”. By looking at this verse along with and in context of the other verses, it becomes apparent the implication of “the best gifts” is gifts with the most often used responsibilities in the Church. In other words, through Paul, the Holy Spirit is telling the Christian Believers that they should desire to be the ones who take the greatest or the most often used responsibilities in the Church - the body of the Lord, i.e., earnestly desire to be the ones in the Church who serve the most. Later, when we see about the various ministries mentioned here, this will become clearer.

    If this verse is taken to understand that it is indicating ministries or gifts being of greater or lesser importance or category, then Paul’s discussion of verse 12-27 is vain; since then in the body of the Lord - His Church, everybody does not have the same importance and status. It also means that God the Holy Spirit has differentiated between Believers by giving greater or smaller gifts. And this is not at all consistent with the teachings of Word of God, therefore is unacceptable. We will consider the implications of this differentiation in detail in the next article.

वरदानों और सेवकाई में स्तर?

    जैसा कि 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:1 से स्पष्ट है, पौलुस प्रेरित में होकर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की यह हार्दिक इच्छा है कि मसीही विश्वासी उसे दिए गए आत्मिक वरदानों के विषय ज्ञान और समझ रखें। फिर 4 से 6 पद में पौलुस लिखता है कि वरदान, सेवा, और प्रभावशाली कार्य कई प्रकार के हैं, किन्तु इनके पीछे, इनमें होकर कार्य करने वाला आत्मा, प्रभु, और परमेश्वर एक ही है। अभिप्राय यह, कि न तो किसी का कार्य, न उसकी सेवा, और न उस सेवकाई का प्रकट प्रभाव, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में छोटा अथवा बड़ा, या महत्वपूर्ण अथवा गौण है। जिसके लिए परमेश्वर ने जो और जैसा निर्धारित किया है, वही उसके लिए सही, सबसे उपयुक्त, और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है; चाहे मनुष्यों की दृष्टि एवं आँकलन में वह कैसा भी हो - परमेश्वर उसे अपने मापदंड और आँकलन के अनुसार देखेगा और प्रतिफल देगा; मनुष्यों की बातों के अनुसार नहीं। परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में उसकी सभी सन्तान समान महत्व की हैं, वह सभी से समान प्रेम करता है, और उसने जिसे जैसा और जिस उद्देश्य से सृजा है, उसे के अनुसार उसे सामर्थ्य, समझ, और वरदान भी दिए हैं। चाहे उसे सौंपा गया कार्य छोटा या काम महत्व का ही प्रतीत हो, किन्तु उस विश्वासी के द्वारा परमेश्वर द्वारा उसके लिए निर्धारित कार्य को सही तरह से करना, किसी अन्य के द्वारा किए गए अद्भुत आश्चर्यकर्मों या सामर्थी प्रचार से किसी भी रीति से कदापि कम नहीं है।

    इसे समझने के लिए बाइबल से कुछ उदाहरणों को देखते हैं:

    मत्ती 25:14-30 में प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा कहा गया परदेश जाते समय एक मनुष्य द्वारा अपने दासों को दिए गए तोड़ों का दृष्टांत है। उस मनुष्य ने एक दास को पाँच, एक को दो और एक को एक ही तोड़ा दिया; और वापस लौटने पर तीनों से समान ही हिसाब लिया। इस पूरे दृष्टांत में कहीं यह संकेत अथवा बात नहीं दी गई है कि उस स्वामी की दृष्टि में उन दासों या उसके द्वारा उनका आँकलन करने या उन्हें परखने में दासों के स्तरों में कोई भिन्नता थी। यद्यपि उनकी व्यक्तिगत क्षमता के अनुसार स्वामी ने हर एक को दिया (पद 15), किन्तु वे तीनों और उनका आँकलन स्वामी की दृष्टि में समान था। एक तोड़ा पाने वाला अपने निकम्मेपन के कारण दण्ड का भागी हुआ, न कि स्वामी की उसके प्रति किसी पूर्व-धारणा के कारण।

    प्रभु ने मत्ती 20:1-16 में दाख की बारी के स्वामी का दृष्टांत बताया, जो दिन के अलग-अलग पहरों में जाकर अपनी बारी में काम करने के लिए मज़दूरों को लाता रहा, यहाँ तक कि अंतिम घंटे में भी और मज़दूर काम के लिए बुलाए। फिर उसने सभी को समान मेहनताना दिया। सारे दिन कार्य करने वालों और एक घंटा काम करने वालों में कोई भिन्नता नहीं की। जिन मज़दूरों ने भिन्नता करवानी भी चाही, उन्हें भी चुप कर दिया।

    निष्कर्ष स्पष्ट है, प्रभु द्वारा निर्धारित और सौंपा गया कोई भी सेवकाई या कार्य छोटा या बड़ा नहीं है; इसलिए उस सेवकाई या कार्य को करने से संबंधित कोई भी आत्मिक वरदान छोटा या बड़ा, अथवा कम या अधिक महत्व का नहीं है। जिसने भी प्रभु द्वारा निर्धारित कार्य को वफादारी से किया, प्रभु द्वारा उसे उपलब्ध करवाए गए संसाधनों का सही और उचित उपयोग किया, वह प्रभु द्वारा कभी भी किसी से भी छोटा या कम महत्व वाला नहीं समझा गया। उसे भी वही आदर और सम्मान तथा प्रतिफल और आशीषें मिलीं जो किसी अन्य को, चाहे मनुष्यों की दृष्टि में उसकी सेवकाई का महत्व एवं आँकलन कुछ भी हो।

English Translation

Levels in Gifts and Ministry?

 

    As is quite apparent from 1 Corinthians 12:1, God the Holy Spirit very much wants the Christian Believers to have the knowledge and understanding about the spiritual gifts given to them. After this, in verses 4 to 6, Paul under the Holy Spirit writes that there are many different gifts, ministries, and activities, but behind all of them, it is one and the same God the Holy Spirit who provides the power and ability. The implication is that in the eyes of God, neither any person, nor his work or ministry, nor the evident effects of his works and ministry are big or small, or, of greater or lesser importance. Whatever God has determined for a person, that and only that is appropriate, best, and important for him; no matter how other men may look at it or consider it, but God will consider it, evaluate it, and reward it according to His own criteria and standards, not any man’s. In God’s eyes, all His children are of equal importance, He loves them all equally, and the way and for the purpose He has created them, he has also given them abilities, understanding, and gifts. Even though the work assigned by God to that Believer may seem to be small and insignificant, but when he does that God assigned work worthily, then, in God’s eyes it is in no way any lesser or inferior to another Believer doing some miraculous works or preaching mightily.

    To understand this, let us look at some examples from the Bible:

    In Acts 9:36-43 we have the incidence of the resurrection of Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, by Peter. Tabitha was a Christian Believer; she did not preach, nor do any miracles nor healed anybody. She had a very ordinary life and ministry; she did good works and gave donations (Acts 9:36), which is a fairly common thing to do by any Believer; and she also made clothes for other people (Acts 9:39). But the way she did these ordinary and seemingly insignificant things, had made her very dear to the people around her. She was so loved by them that on her death, they immediately called Peter, on hearing about her life and ministry Peter prayed for her to God, and God, in response to the cry or the people and Peter’s prayer made her live again, and this miracle led to many others to salvation (Acts 9:40-42). There is nothing great or extraordinary about doing good works, giving donations, and making clothes for people; but the way Tabitha did it all, so influenced others and endeared her to them, that God sent her back amongst them. Can anyone call her gift or ministry small or insignificant? 

    In Matthew 25:14-30 is a parable the Lord Jesus spoke about a person going on a journey and giving his servants some talents, some responsibilities. He gave one servant five talents, to another two, and to the third one, one talent; and on returning, he asked for an account from all three of them. In this parable, there is no indication anywhere that in the eyes of that man there was any difference of levels amongst his servants and the criteria he was evaluating them by. Although, the lord of those servants gave to each one according to that servant’s personal abilities (verse 15), yet, in the eyes of that man, those three were of similar importance, and their evaluation was also on the same criteria, by the same standards, not differently. The servant who had received one talent was punished because of his own irresponsible behavior, not on any pre-conceived ideas the man had about him.

    In Matthew 20:1-16, the Lord Jesus gave a parable of the owner of the vineyard, who went at different times throughout the day to look for and engage laborers to work in his vineyard, he even brought them in the last hour of the day. Then he paid them all for their work. There was no difference in the wages given to those who had worked the whole day, and those who had worked only in the last hour. The laborers who wanted to create a differentiation were admonished and silenced by the owner of the vineyard.

    The conclusion is quite clear, no work assigned by the Lord is greater or lesser, or of greater or lesser importance in the eyes of the Lord. Therefore, no gift related to that God given work or ministry, will be greater or lesser, or of more or lesser importance. Those who do their God assigned work faithfully, and utilize their God given provisions and gifts properly, are never seen as greater or lesser than anyone else. God gives them all similar honor, commendation, and rewards for their work; whatever be any person’s importance and evaluation of that work or ministry.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

परिचय

    हम 1 राजाओं 2:2-4 से, अर्थात हाल ही में इस्राएल के राजा बने उसके पुत्र सुलैमान को दाऊद द्वारा दिए गए निर्देशों में से, एक सफल और आशीषित जीवन जीने के सम्बन्ध में सीख रहे हैं। वर्तमान में हम इस खण्ड के पद 3 पर विचार कर रहे हैं, जिसमें दाऊद सुलैमान से उस सभी का योग्य भण्डारी होने के लिए कहता है, जो परमेश्वर ने उसे सौंपा है।

    इसी प्रकार से, पौलुस ने भी 1 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-2 में कहा है कि वह किसी विशिष्ट वरदान या ज़िम्मेदारी का नहीं, बल्कि जो कुछ परमेश्वर ने उसे दिया है, जिस की ज़िम्मेदारी उसे सौंपी है, उस सभी का भण्डारी है; और उसे योग्य भण्डारी बनकर रहना है। क्योंकि हमें यह भी निर्देश दिए गए हैं कि हम मसीह का अनुसरण उसी तरह से करें, जैसे कि पौलुस ने किया (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:1); इसलिए, भण्डारीपन के प्रति जो पौलुस का रवैया था, वही प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी का भी होना चाहिए। उसे इस बात के एहसास के साथ जीना और काम करना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में वह हर उस बात का भण्डारी है जो परमेश्वर ने उसे दी है। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर ने कम से कम ये चार बातें तो दी ही हैं:

· अपना वचन

· अपना पवित्र आत्मा

· अपनी कलीसिया तथा अपने अन्य बच्चों की संगति

· सेवकाई के लिए पवित्र आत्मा का कोई न कोई वरदान

    इन चार में से हमने पिछले लेखों में पहली तीन बातों, विश्वासी के परमेश्वर का वचन का, पवित्र आत्मा का, और परमेश्वर की कलीसिया और परमेश्वर की अन्य बच्चों के साथ संगति का भण्डारी होने के बारे में देख लिया है। आज से हम चौथे विषय पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों के बारे में और मसीही विश्वासी के उनका भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीखना आरंभ करेंगे।

    मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की भूमिका और उनके द्वारा सभी मसीही विश्वासियों को मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई के लिए दिए जाने वाले आत्मिक वरदानों के अध्ययन में हम यह देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए कुछ न कुछ कार्य पूर्व-निर्धारित कर रखे हैं (इफिसियों 2:10), और वह चाहता है कि प्रत्येक विश्वासी उसे सौंपे गए कार्य को उद्यम और उचित रीति से करे। परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित इन कार्यों को करने के लिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उसमें निवास करने वाले परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता उपलब्ध है, और साथ ही पवित्र आत्मा ने सभी को उनके कार्य और सेवकाई के लिए उचित और उपयुक्त वरदान, या क्षमताएं और योग्यताएं भी दी हैं, जिससे वह अपनी सेवकाई सुचारु रीति से और परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार कर सके, कि उसकी सेवकाई परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य हो। इस संदर्भ में हम मत्ती 7:21-23 से यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर को वही स्वीकार्य होता है जो उसकी इच्छा के अनुसार और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में होकर किया जाता है। कोई मनुष्य अपनी मन-मर्ज़ी से परमेश्वर के नाम से कुछ भी करे, और अपेक्षा रखे कि परमेश्वर उसे स्वीकार करेगा, उसके लिए आशीष देगा, तो यह उस मनुष्य की अपनी सोच और समझ है। परमेश्वर उसकी इस सोच और समझ के साथ सहमत नहीं है, और उसे तथा उसके ऐसे सभी कार्यों को अस्वीकार कर देता है, वे चाहे कितने भी भले और सामर्थी क्यों हों। इसलिए अति-आवश्यक है कि जब मसीही विश्वासी अपनी निर्धारित सेवकाई के कार्य करे, अपने वरदानों का उपयोग करे तो इस अनिवार्य बात का ध्यान रखते हुए करे। 

    इसके लिए स्वाभाविक है कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को आत्मिक वरदानों के प्रति सही समझ-बूझ और ज्ञान रखना चाहिए। परमेश्वर ने भी अपने लोगों को इस विषय में अनभिज्ञ एवं निःसहाय नहीं छोड़ा है। पवित्र आत्मा ने बाइबल की पुस्तकों में इन वरदानों, और उनके उपयोग के बारे में उपयुक्त विवरण लिखवाया है। अन्य स्थानों के अतिरिक्त, रोम के, और कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों को पौलुस प्रेरित के द्वारा लिखी पत्रियों में इसके विषय इसके बारे में प्रमुख शिक्षाएं मिलती हैं। कुरिन्थुस की मसीही मण्डली को लिखी अपने पहली पत्री में, पौलुस ने लिखा “हे भाइयों, मैं नहीं चाहता कि तुम आत्मिक वरदानों के विषय में अज्ञात रहो” (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:1); और यहाँ से आरंभ कर के 14 अध्याय के अंत तक की चर्चा पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों के बारे में है। इसी प्रकार से रोमियों को लिखी पत्री का 12 अध्याय भी पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों के बारे में है। मसीही सेवकाई में लगे प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को प्रार्थना के साथ, इन अध्यायों में दी गई शिक्षाओं के लिए पवित्र आत्मा का मार्गदर्शन मांगते हुए, इन अध्यायों को बहुत गंभीरता से और बारंबार पढ़ना चाहिए, और इनमें लिखी बातों को अपने जीवन और सेवकाई में लागू करना चाहिए। आज से हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12 में आत्मिक वरदानों के बारे में लिखी बातों को देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

English Translation

Introduction

    We are studying about leading a successful and blessed life as Born-Again Christian Believers, from 1 Kings 2:2-4, i.e., through the instructions given by David to his son Solomon, recently crowned King of Israel. Presently we are on verse 3 of this passage, where David instructs Solomon to be a steward of all that God has given in his charge.

    Similarly, Paul says in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2, that he is a steward of not just any specific gift or responsibility, but of everything that God has given him, entrusted him with; and he has to be a faithful steward. We have also been instructed to emulate Christ in the same manner as Paul used to emulate Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). Therefore, Paul’s attitude towards stewardship should also be the attitude of every Christian Believer; he must realize, live, and function knowing that in God’s eyes, he is a steward of everything that has been given to him by God. We have seen that to every Christian Believer, God has given at least four things:

· His Word

· His Holy Spirit

· His Church and Fellowship of His Children

· Some Gift of the Holy Spirit for their Ministry

    Of these four, in the preceding articles, we have seen about the first three, the Believer being the steward of God’s Word, of God the Holy Spirit, and of God’s Church and fellowshipping with God’s other children. From today we will begin learning about the fourth topic, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the Christian Believers stewardship towards them.

    In our study on the role of God the Holy Spirit and the gifts He gives to every Christian Believer for Christian Living and Ministry, we have seen that God has determined some work or the other for every Christian Believer (Ephesians 2:10), and He expects him to be properly and diligently engaged in it. For the help of the Christian Believer to be doing his assigned work properly, not only has God made available to him the help of God the Holy Spirit residing in him, but also the gifts and abilities that the Holy Spirit has given to every Believer, appropriate for his ministry, so that each Believer can do his work and ministry well, in a manner acceptable and pleasing to God. In this context we have also seen from Matthew 7:21-23, that only that which is done in the will of God and in obedience to Him and His Word is acceptable to God. No man should expect that anything he does on his own, but adding to it the name of God, will make it acceptable to God and God will bless him for it; this is his own thinking and belief, and is not in accordance with God’s thinking, working and teachings in His Word. Therefore, God rejects all such men and their works, no matter how good or miraculous they may be. Hence, it is mandatory that when a Believer does his assigned work and ministry, and utilizes his gifts given by the Holy Spirit, he always keeps this principle in mind, so that Satan may not entice him away into something seemingly desirable, but actually disastrous.

    Therefore, it is expected and beneficial that every Christian Believer has a proper understanding and knowledge about the gifts the Holy Spirit gives. God has also not left His people unaware and helpless about them. The Holy Spirit has had proper descriptions written about them in the various books of the Bible. Besides what is written in the other places, in the letters written by Paul to the Churches in Rome and Corinth, we have the main teachings on this subject. In his first letter to the Church at Corinth, Paul wrote, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant” (1 Corinthians 12:1); then from here onwards till the end of chapter 14, the topic of consideration is the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Similarly, in the letter to the Romans, chapter 12 is about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Every Believer engaged in Christian ministry should prayerfully, carefully, and repeatedly read and study these chapters; ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, learn, and apply the teachings given here about these gifts in his life and ministry. We will begin this study by looking at the things written in 1 Corinthians 12 regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
