सुसमाचार से संबंधित शिक्षाएँ – 28

 

    हम सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं के बारे में सीख रहे हैं, और हमने देखा है कि 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 तथा गलतियों 1:4 में परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए वास्तविक सुसमाचार का सार या मर्म है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गया यही सुसमाचार, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के कार्य के द्वारा, लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करने, उन्हें प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करने और उद्धार पाने के लिए उभारने, और उनके जीवनों में परिवर्तन लाने की सामर्थ्य एवं क्षमता रखता है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए इस सुसमाचार के अतिरिक्त जो भी सुसमाचार है, वह सुसमाचार का बिगाड़ा हुआ स्वरूप है, और लोगों को उनके पापों से बचाने के लिए अप्रभावी है, वह चाहे कितना भी मनोहर, आकर्षक, और ज्ञानवर्धक प्रतीत क्यों न हो। परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए इस सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ने और उसे अप्रभावी करने के लिए शैतान प्रयास करता रहता है; वह लोगों को उनकी बुद्धि और समझ तथा तात्कालिक परिस्थिति के अनुसार उस सुसमाचार में कुछ जोड़ने अथवा उस में से कुछ निकालने के लिए भरमाता है। पिछले लेख में हमने धार्मिक तथा भले कार्यों से सम्बन्धित तीन आम तरीकों को देखा है, जिनके द्वारा शैतान सुसमाचार में बिगाड़ उत्पन्न करता है। आज हम शैतान द्वारा सुसमाचार में लाए जाने वाले कुछ अन्य बिगाड़ों के बारे में देखेंगे।

    कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिया गया प्रभु यीशु मसीह का बलिदान, उनका मारा जाना, गाड़ा जाना, और मृतकों में से जी उठना सुसमाचार के वृतान्त का अनिवार्य और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण भाग है। इनके बिना, सुसमाचार निष्फल है, और पापों के पश्चाताप तथा प्रभु यीशु मसीह में लाए गए विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार व्यर्थ है (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:12-20)। इसलिए, सुसमाचार पर सन्देह उत्पन्न करने का एक अन्य शैतानी तरीका है लोगों के अन्दर प्रभु यीशु मसीह की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान के प्रति सन्देह उत्पन्न करके, उनमें सुसमाचार के प्रति सन्देह उत्पन्न करना। शैतान ऐसा प्रभु की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान को, तथा प्रभु यीशु के मनुष्य बनकर मानवीय देह में पृथ्वी पर आने को चुनौती देने के द्वारा करता है। शैतान यह चुनौती गढ़ी गई झूठी कहानियों के द्वारा करता है, जो सुनने में तर्कसंगत और भक्तिपूर्ण भी लग सकती हैं, और लोग उन में फंस भी जाते हैं; किन्तु ये कहानियाँ चारों सुसमाचारों में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान के वर्णनों के आधार पर की गई जाँच के सामने टिक नहीं पाती हैं। हम बहुत संक्षेप में इन गढ़ी गई कहानियों को देखेंगे, और सुसमाचारों में दिए गए प्रभु यीशु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने, और जी उठने के वर्णनों के आधार पर उनके प्रत्युत्तर को भी देखेंगे।

    प्रभु यीशु की मृत्यु के बारे में सन्देह उत्पन्न करने के शैतान के तरीकों में से एक, उसके द्वारा फैलाई गई यह धारणा है कि क्रूस पर प्रभु यीशु नहीं चढ़ाए गए और न ही वे क्रूस पर मरे थे; वरन उनके समान दिखने वाला कोई अन्य व्यक्ति उनके स्थान पर क्रूस पर चढ़ाया और मारा गया था। यहूदा इस्करियोती के द्वारा पहचाने और पकड़वाए जाने (मरकुस 14:43-46) के समय से लेकर प्रभु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने के समय तक, प्रभु यीशु को एक पल के लिए भी अकेला नहीं छोड़ा गया था। वे पूरे समय अपने शत्रुओं के हाथों में ही रहे, जिनमें रोमी सैनिक भी थे। इसलिए, उनके बच कर निकल जाने और उनके स्थान पर किसी अन्य के आ जाने का कोई अवसर ही नहीं था, तो फिर यह फेर-बदल कब और कैसे संभव होता? सुसमाचारों के वृतान्त दिखाते हैं कि उन्हें क्रूस पर चढ़ाने से पहले उनका उपहास हुआ था, उन्हें बुरी तरह से मारा-पीटा और कोड़ों से घायल किया गया था (मत्ती 26:67; 27:27-31; लूका 22:63; यूहन्ना 19:1-3), जिससे उनका शरीर इतना कमज़ोर हो गया था कि वे अपना क्रूस भी उठा कर चलने नहीं पा रहे थे (मत्ती 27:32), और अन्त में बड़ी क्रूरता के साथ उन्हें क्रूस पर ठोक दिया गया था कि वे एक अत्यंत पीड़ादायक मृत्यु को भोगें। कोई निर्दोष व्यक्ति उनके स्थान पर यह सब क्यों सहेगा, और वह यह बात क्यों नहीं बता देगा कि जिसे वे क्रूस पर चढ़ाना चाह रहे हैं वह कोई और ही है? और फिर, प्रभु यीशु के सबसे निकट के शिष्य, जिन्होंने मृत्यु तक उसके साथ खड़े रहने के दावे किये थे, वे भी उसे छोड़ कर भाग गए थे (मत्ती 26:35, 56; मरकुस 14:31, 50); तो फिर अब कौन बचा था जो उनके स्थान पर यह सब सहने के लिए स्वेच्छा से आ जाता, और सह लेता? साथ ही, क्रूस के उस स्थान पर प्रभु की माँ और प्रभु से परिचित अन्य महिलाएँ भी थीं, उनका शिष्य यूहन्ना था, और प्रभु ने यूहन्ना को अपनी माँ की देखभाल करने का दायित्व सौंपा था (यूहन्ना 19:25-27); यदि क्रूस पर प्रभु क स्थान पर कोई और लटका होता, तो क्या यह संभव होने पाता? क्या ये सभी लोग पहचान नहीं लेते कि क्रूस पर प्रभु नहीं कोई अन्य चढ़ाया गया है?

    हम ऐसी ही गढ़ी गई झूठी कहानियों के द्वारा सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ने और प्रभु के क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने, मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने, और जी उठने पर सन्देह लाने के प्रयासों को अगले लेख में और आगे देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 28

 

    We are presently considering teachings related to the gospel, and have seen that the gospel given in the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and Galatians 1:4 is the gist of the true God given gospel. It is this God given gospel that through the work of God the Holy Spirit has the power to convict people of their sins, bring them to faith in the Lord Jesus and salvation, and change their lives. Anything other than this God given gospel is a perversion of the gospel, and is ineffective for saving people from their sins, no matter how attractive, appealing, and educative it may sound. To pervert this God given gospel and render it ineffective, Satan keeps trying to get people to add or take way from it, by modifying it through their wisdom, understanding, and altering it according to the situation at hand. In the last article we have briefly seen three common ways, related to religious and good works, through which the gospel is altered and perverted. Today we will consider something more about these satanic perversions of the gospel.

    The sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, and His resurrection from the dead are crucial to the gospel narrative. Without them, the gospel is infructuous, and salvation through repentance for sins and coming to faith in the Lord Jesus is vain (1 Corinthians 15:12-20). Therefore, another way in which Satan tries to discredit the gospel and try to have people disbelieve the gospel is by creating doubts about the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Satan does this by challenging the death and resurrection of the Lord; as well as the Lord’s coming to earth in the flesh, as a human being. Satan does this through contrived, untenable stories that sound logical and even pious, and people fall for them. But these stories cannot stand up to the scrutiny based on the accounts of the Lord’s death and resurrection as recorded in the four Gospels. We will very briefly consider these concocted stories and their rebuttal based on the Gospel accounts of the crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

    One of the ways Satan has tried to create doubts about the death of the Lord Jesus is by alleging that it was not Jesus who was crucified and died on the cross, but someone resembling Him. After His being identified by Judas Iscariot and caught (Mark 14:43-46) till His crucifixion, the Lord Jesus was never left alone even for a moment; He was continually in the hands of His enemies, including the Roman soldiers. So, when and where would there have been a chance for Him to escape, and someone else take His place, without anybody knowing anything about this switch? The Gospel accounts show how severely He was flogged, tortured and ridiculed before being crucified (Matthew 26:67; 27:27-31; Luke 22:63; John 19:1-3), rendering Him so weak that He could not carry His cross (Matthew 27:32), and finally He was brutally crucified to die an excruciating death. Why would someone innocent suffer all this, and not say that he was not the one they were wanting to crucify? Moreover, the closest of His disciples who had claimed to always stand by Him even unto death, had forsaken Him and fled (Matthew 26:35, 56; Mark 14:31, 50); so, who would have volunteered to take His place and suffer all this, in His place? Then, at the place of His crucifixion, His mother and some other familiar women were there, and so was His disciple John, and the Lord handed over the charge of looking after His mother to John (John 19:25-27); would this have been possible if the person hanging on the cross was someone other than the Lord? Would not all these people have identified that the one on the cross was not Jesus but someone else?

    We will continue to look at these attempts to pervert the gospel through contrived stories meant to discredit the crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus in the next article.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    हम बाइबल में से सुसमाचार से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को सीख रहे हैं, और पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि वह सुसमाचार जो 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 में और गलतियों 1:4 में लिखा गया है, वही परिशुद्ध सुसमाचार है, वही पवित्र शास्त्र के अनुसार है, और वही परमेश्वर के द्वारा मानवजाति के उद्धार के लिए दिया गया है। यही वह सुसमाचार है जो सभी समयों, स्थानों, व्यक्तियों, परिस्थितियों आदि में कार्यकारी और प्रभावी है; इसी में लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करने और उन्हें परिवर्तित करने की सामर्थ्य है। इसे और सामर्थी या प्रभावी बनाने की या किसी भी अन्य कारण से इसमें और कुछ भी जोड़ने की, या इसे किसी भी तरह से सुधारने या बदलने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। हमने गलतियों 1:4-9 से देखा है कि किसी को भी, वह चाहे स्वर्गदूत हो अथवा प्रभु यीशु का प्रेरित, सुसमाचार में कोई भी बदलाव लाने का कोई अधिकार, कोई अनुमति नहीं है; ऐसा करने को सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ना कहा गया है, और जो यह करते हैं, उन्हें श्रापित कहा गया है। शैतान का निरन्तर यह प्रयास रहता है कि लोगों से अपनी बुद्धि और समझ के द्वारा सुसमाचार में कुछ बदलाव करवाए या उस में और कुछ जोड़े, बहुधा उसे और अधिक आकर्षक, या मनोहर बनाने के लिए, अथवा तात्कालिक परिस्थिति के अनुसार प्रासंगिक करने के लिए; किन्तु जैसा हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17 से देखा है, इससे  सुसमाचार केवल अप्रभावी ही होता है, न कि किसी भी रीति से उसके प्रभावी होने में कोई बढ़ोतरी होती है। आज हम कुछ शैतानी युक्तियों को देखेंगे जिनके द्वारा सुसमाचार बिगाड़ा जाता है और अप्रभावी किया जाता है।

    एक तो हम पिछले लेख में भी देख ही चुके हैं, और उसका उल्लेख ऊपर भी किया गया है, अर्थात सुसमाचार में मानवीय बुद्धि और समझ की बातें मिलाना (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17) जिससे कि वह मनोहर और आकर्षक, परिस्थिति के लिए प्रासंगिक बन सके। किन्तु इससे वह साथ ही अप्रभावी भी हो जाता है।

    सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ने के लिए शैतान की एक और युक्ति है कि या तो उसे भले और धार्मिक कार्यों पर आधारित दिखाए, अर्थात भले बनो और भले कार्य करो तथा धार्मिक निर्देशों का पालन करो, और ऐसा कर के स्वयं को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाओ, और फिर उसके पास उससे उद्धार प्राप्त करने के लिए जाओ। इस में अनकही और छुपी हुई हानि की बात यह है कि परमेश्वर का वचन स्पष्ट कहता है कि कोई भी मनुष्य, किसी भी प्रकार के कार्यों के द्वारा, कभी भी परमेश्वर को ग्रहण योग्य होने योग्य भला नहीं हो सकता है (अय्यूब 14:4; 15:14-16; 25:4; यशायाह 64:6); और इसलिए, जो लोग इस विचारधारा के अनुसार चलते हैं वे कभी भी उद्धार पाने के लिए परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं बनने पाएँगे, और अपने पापों में ही मर जाएँगे। ऐसे बिगाड़े जाने का एक अन्य स्वरूप है कि प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने के साथ भले कार्यों और धार्मिक बातों के निर्वाह की अनिवार्यता को भी जोड़ देना। इसका अभिप्राय यह है कि प्रभु यीशु का बलिदान मानवजाति के पापों का निवारण करने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है, और इसमें मनुष्य के भले एवं धार्मिक कामों का भी जोड़ा जाना आवश्यक है, तभी उद्धार प्राप्त होने पाएगा। जैसा हमने अभी देखा है, मनुष्य कभी भी किसी भी प्रकार के धार्मिक या भले कार्यों के द्वारा उद्धार पाने के लिए परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं हो सकता है, तो फिर मनुष्य के ये भले और धार्मिक कार्य उद्धार देने के लिए परमेश्वर पुत्र, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के बलिदान में सहायता किस प्रकार से कर सकते हैं? इफिसियों 2:1-9 और तीतुस 3:5 इस धारणा को पूर्णतः नकार देते हैं कि मनुष्य के उद्धार में किसी भी प्रकार के कर्मों की कोई भी भूमिका है; और स्पष्ट कर देते हैं कि उद्धार केवल परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह के द्वारा, कलवरी के क्रूस पर प्रभु यीशु द्वारा पूर्ण किये गए कार्य में विश्वास करने से ही है; उसमें किसी भी प्रकार से मनुष्य द्वारा कुछ भी जोड़ने का कोई स्थान नहीं है।

    एक अन्य बहुत आम देखे जाने वाला बिगाड़ वह है जिसका आरम्भिक कलीसिया को सामना करना पड़ा था और जिसके साथ काफी संघर्ष भी हुआ था कि उद्धार पाने के लिए अन्य-जातियों से आए हुए लोगों को खतना करवाना और व्यवस्था का पालन करना आवश्यक है (प्रेरितों 15:1, 5); किन्तु इस बात पर बहुत विचार और वाद-विवाद के बाद यरूशलेम में कलीसिया के अगुवों ने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया कि ऐसी कोई आज्ञा कहीं पर भी नहीं दी गई है, और ऐसा करने की कोई आवश्यकता भी नहीं है (प्रेरितों 15:24)। यह भी एक और तरीका है, इस बात को कहने का कि प्रभु यीशु का बलिदान अपर्याप्त है और पापों से निवारण के लिए उसमें कुछ और जोड़े जाने की आवश्यकता है – जो यहाँ पर ख़तना और व्यवस्था का पालन थे। प्रेरितों 15:7-10 में दिए गए पतरस के प्रत्युत्तर ने यरूशलेम की सभा के लिए समस्या का समाधान स्थापित कर दिया; पतरस ने कहा कि जब व्यवस्था और ख़तना अभी तक किसी को भी धर्मी नहीं बना सके थे, तो फिर उनके द्वारा प्रभु के बलिदान में सहायता कैसे हो सकती है? पौलुस ने भी गलतियों 5:1-6 में व्यवस्था के पालन तथा ख़तना करने की अनिवार्यता का विरोध किया, और बताया कि प्रभु यीशु ने व्यवस्था को पूरा करने के द्वारा उसे क्रूस पर ठोक दिया है और मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए अलग हटा दिया है, और उनके लिए ख़तना बन गया है (कुलुस्सियों 2:11-14)। आज हमारे समय में सुसमाचार में यह बिगाड़ सामान्यतः दी जाने वाली इस शिक्षा के द्वारा किया जाता है कि कलीसिया या डिनॉमिनेशन की धार्मिक रीतियों, परम्पराओं, और आज्ञाओं का पालन करना उद्धार के लिए अनिवार्य है। इसके पीछे का तर्क वही है जो उस समय “मूसा की व्यवस्था” के लिए दिया जाता था, और आज उसी तर्क को “कलीसिया या डिनॉमिनेशन की व्यवस्था” के पालन के लिए दिया जाता है। यह एक प्रकार की गलत शिक्षा और झूठा सिद्धान्त है जो “कर्मों द्वारा उद्धार” पर आधारित है, जिसके मिथ्या होने को हम ऊपर देख चुके हैं।

    अगले लेख में हम सुसमाचार में किये जाने वाले कुछ और बिगाड़ों, अर्थात सुसमाचार में डाले जाने वाले बदलावों और परिवर्तनों  को देखेंगे, जिन्हें बिना जाँचे-समझे-बूझे यूँ ही बातों को मान लेने वाले लोगों को सिखा दिया जाता है, उन पर थोप दिया जाता है; किन्तु वे बातें बाइबल के अनुसार सही नहीं हैं, व्यर्थ हैं, और उन्हें अस्वीकार कर के उनका तिरस्कार कर देना चाहिए।

    We are learning teachings related to the gospel from the Bible, and in the last article we have seen that the gospel, as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and Galatians 1:4, is the pure gospel, is according to the Scriptures, and is the gospel given by God for salvation of all of mankind. This gospel is effective and applicable across all times, places, persons, circumstances etc., having the power to convict people of their sins and change them. There is no need to supplement it in any way, and nor for any alteration or modification in it, for any reason. We have seen from Galatians 1:4-9 any alteration or modification of the gospel by anyone, be it an angel or an Apostle of the Lord Jesus, is forbidden, has been called perverting it, and those who modify it have been called accursed. Satan relentlessly tries to have people modify or supplement the gospel by using their wisdom and understanding, often to make it sound more attractive and appealing, or more relevant to the situation at hand; but as we have seen from 1 Corinthians 1:17 in the last article, this only renders the gospel ineffective, instead of increasing its effectiveness in any way. Today we will look at some of the satanic ploys through which the gospel is ‘perverted’ and rendered ineffective.

    One, we have already seen in the last article and has been mentioned above, i.e., adding thoughts of human wisdom and understanding to the gospel (1 Corinthians 1:17) to make it sound more attractive and appealing, or more relevant to the situation at hand. But by doing this, it also simultaneously becomes ineffective.

    Another satanic ploy to pervert the gospel is to either base it upon good and religious works, i.e., to be good and do good, and follow religious instructions, and thereby make oneself acceptable to the Lord, and then approach Him for being saved. The unspoken, hidden pitfall here is that God’s Word clearly says that man, through his works of any kind, can never be good enough to become acceptable to God (Job 14:4; 15:14-16; 25:4; Isaiah 64:6); and therefore, those go by this line of thought will never be able to become acceptable to God for being considered for salvation, and will die in their sins. A variant of this perversion is adding the necessity of doing good or religious works along with coming to faith in the Lord Jesus. This implies that the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus was insufficient to atone for the sins of mankind, and it has to be supplemented by good and religious works done by man, for salvation to be achieved. As we have just seen, since man can never be good enough through any works of any kind to be acceptable to God for being saved, how then can any of man’s works supplement the sacrifice of the God the Son, the Lord Jesus for the salvation of man? Ephesians 2:1-9 and Titus 3:5 absolutely negate the role of any kind of works in the salvation of man; stating that salvation is purely and only by the grace of God, through faith in the accomplished work of the Lord on the Cross of Calvary, without any kind of human supplementations added to the Lord’s work.

    Another very common perversion, which the initial Church had to face and struggle against was the teaching that the gentiles had to be circumcised and obey the Law also, to be saved (Acts 15:1, 5); but the Elders in Jerusalem, after debating the matter, made it clear that this was not commanded, and there was no need to do this (Acts 15:24). This is another way of saying that the Lord’s sacrifice by itself is insufficient atonement, and has to be supplemented by something more – here circumcision and obeying the Law. Peter’s response in Acts 15:7-10, settled the matter for the Council in Jerusalem; he said that since the Law and circumcision could never make anyone righteous till now, so how can they be a necessary supplement to complete the atoning work of the Lord? Paul too argued against the necessity of keeping the Law and circumcision in Galatians 5:1-6; and stated that the Lord Jesus by fulfilling the Law, has nailed it to the Cross and has taken it out of the way for the Christian Believers, and He has become their circumcision (Colossians 2:11-14). This perversion is seen in our times in the form of the commonly held teaching of the necessity of fulfilling religious creeds, rites and rituals of the church or denomination for salvation. The basic argument remains the same, only, what was the “Law of Moses” for the Jews then, has been replaced by the “Law of the church or of the denomination” now. This is another form of the false teaching and wrong doctrine of “salvation by works,” and we have seen its fallacy above.

    In the next article we will consider a few more perversions, i.e., alterations and modifications of the gospel, that are commonly seen and imposed upon the gullible people, but those things are unBiblical, vain, and must be rejected and discarded.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4 से, जहाँ पर पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस प्रेरित के द्वारा सुसमाचार के सार या मर्म को लिखा गया है, सुसमाचार तथा सुसमाचार पर विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं पर विचार कर रहे हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि जैसा 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:3-4 में लिखा है, सुसमाचार पवित्र शास्त्र के अनुसार है, अर्थात, यह नए नियम में परमेश्वर के वचन में जोड़ी गई कोई नई बात नहीं है। वरन, सुसमाचार हमेशा से ही परमेश्वर के वचन का एक भाग रहा है, पहला पाप किये जाने के समय से ही; और तथ्य यही है कि परमेश्वर ने सृष्टि के समय से ही, इससे पहले कि पहला पाप किया जाता, सुसमाचार को स्थापित कर दिया था। आज से हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-2 पर विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे, और सुसमाचार तथा सुसमाचार पर विश्वास करने से सम्बन्धित कुछ और बातों को समझेंगे।

    1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-2 में लिखा है, “हे भाइयों, मैं तुम्हें वही सुसमाचार बताता हूं जो पहिले सुना चुका हूं, जिसे तुम ने अंगीकार भी किया था और जिस में तुम स्थिर भी हो। उसी के द्वारा तुम्हारा उद्धार भी होता है, यदि उस सुसमाचार को जो मैं ने तुम्हें सुनाया था स्मरण रखते हो; नहीं तो तुम्हारा विश्वास करना व्यर्थ हुआ।” जैसा कि हमने पहले देखा है, प्रचारक के द्वारा लोगों और परिस्थितियों के अनुसार सुसमाचार को बनाया या गढ़ा नहीं जाना है, बल्कि परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए सुसमाचार को ही प्रचारक के द्वारा सुनाया जाना और प्रचार किया जाना है, और सुनने वालों के द्वारा उसे ही स्वीकार किया जाना है। परमेश्वर ने एक ही विश्वव्यापी सुसमाचार, जिसे “सनातन सुसमाचार” कहा गया है (प्रकाशितवाक्य 14:6) दिया है, और जो सभी समयों और कालों के लिए लागू एवं प्रभावी है, सभी लोगों के लिए है, सभी स्थानों पर उपयोग किया जाना है, और हर परिस्थिति के लिए है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए इस सुसमाचार सन्देश में, पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता से, लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल करने और उनके जीवनों को परिवर्तित करने की सामर्थ्य है; किसी को भी इसे और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने के लिए इसमें और कुछ भी जोड़ने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने पकड़वाए जाने से पहले शिष्यों के साथ अंतिम भोज में, यूहन्ना अध्याय 14 से 16 में, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा और शिष्यों के मध्य में पवित्र आत्मा की सेवकाई के बारे में कुछ बहुत महत्वपूर्ण शिक्षाएँ दी थीं। प्रभु के द्वारा दी गई इन शिक्षाओं में से एक है कि पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है (यूहन्ना 14:17; 15:26; 16:13); इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा कभी भी किसी भी ऐसी बात के साथ नहीं होगा जो सत्य नहीं है। यदि सुसमाचार प्रचार में पवित्र आत्मा सक्रिय रीति से जुड़ा हुआ नहीं है, तो सुसमाचार कभी भी प्रभावी नहीं होगा, अर्थात, वह लोगों को उनके पापों के लिए कायल नहीं करेगा और वे यीशु को प्रभु स्वीकार करने के लिए प्रेरित नहीं होंगे (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:3)।

    ऐसा कोई भी सुसमाचार जो या तो मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़ा गया है, अथवा जिस परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए सुसमाचार में मानवीय बुद्धि, विचारों, और समझ के द्वारा किसी प्रकार का कोई परिवर्तन लाया गया है, वह परमेश्वर द्वारा दिया गया शुद्ध और सच्चा सुसमाचार नहीं है। इसलिए न तो पवित्र आत्मा और न ही पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य उस सुसमाचार के प्रचार किये जाने या सिखाये जाने के साथ होगी; इसलिए यद्यपि ऐसा सुसमाचार सुनने में मनोहर, आकर्षक, रोचक, ज्ञानवर्धक, आदि तो हो सकता है, किन्तु उससे कभी भी सुनने वाले लोग अपने पापों के लिए कायल नहीं होंगे और न ही उनके जीवनों में कोई परिवर्तन आएगा, क्योंकि उसके साथ पवित्र आत्मा का कार्य जुड़ा हुआ नहीं है। पौलुस ने इस बात को बहुत स्पष्ट व्यक्त किया है, “क्योंकि मसीह ने मुझे बपतिस्मा देने को नहीं, वरन सुसमाचार सुनाने को भेजा है, और यह भी शब्दों के ज्ञान के अनुसार नहीं, ऐसा न हो कि मसीह का क्रूस व्यर्थ ठहरे” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:17)।

    गलतियों 1:4-9 में, पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा पौलुस ने एक बार फिर सुसमाचार का सार लिखा (पद 4), और फिर बहुत बल देकर ऐसे किसी भी सुसमाचार को स्वीकार करने और पालन करने के लिए मना किया जो दिए गए मूल सुसमाचार से किसी भी प्रकार से थोड़ा भी भिन्न हो, चाहे उस भिन्न सुसमाचार को प्रचार करने और सिखाने वाला कोई स्वर्गदूत, या स्वयं पौलुस ही क्यों न हो। गलतियों के इस खण्ड में, सुसमाचार के साथ ऐसा करने को सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ना कहा गया है (पद 7), और जो सुसमाचार को बिगाड़ते हैं, और मूल नहीं किन्तु बदले हुए या बिगाड़े हुए स्वरूप को प्रचार करते हैं, उन्हें “श्रापित” कहा गया है (पद 8-9)। इसलिए, बाइबल के अनुसार, किसी को भी यह अधिकार अथवा अनुमति नहीं है कि वह किसी भी प्रकार से सुसमाचार में कोई भी परिवर्तन करे, और गढ़े हुए या परिवर्तित अर्थात बिगड़े हुए सुसमाचार का प्रचार करे और उसे सिखाए; किसी को भी नहीं, न स्‍वर्गदूतों को, न प्रेरितों को, न वचन के प्रशिक्षित विद्वानों को। जो भी ऐसा करता है, परमेश्वर के वचन को बिगाड़ता है, वह परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में श्रापित है; और यदि परमेश्वर ही किसी को दोषी ठहराए, तो फिर उसे गलती करने वाला होने और इस का दण्ड को भोगने से कौन बचा सकता है? इसलिए जो लोग परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई में लगे हुए हैं, विशेषकर जो सुसमाचार प्रचारक हैं, उन्हें बहुत सावधान रहना चाहिए कि कहीं वे सुसमाचार को बेहतर तथा अधिक प्रभावी बनाने के उत्साह में, उस में अपने ही विचार और बुद्धि की बातें मिलाने के द्वारा उसे बिगाड़ न दें, और इससे न केवल सुसमाचार को अप्रभावी कर दें, बल्कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में स्वयं भी श्रापित न हो जाएँ।

    हम अगले लेख में 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-2 पर और गए विचार ज़ारी रखेंगे।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 26

 

    We are learning Biblical teachings about the gospel and about believing in the gospel, using 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, where the crux of the gospel has been recorded by the Apostle Paul under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In the previous article we have seen how, as it says in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, the gospel is according to the Scriptures, i.e., is not something new that has been added or introduced in God’s Word in the New Testament. Rather, the gospel has always been a part of the Scriptures, of God’s Word, since the time the first sin was committed; and in fact, the gospel was put in place by God at creation, even before the first sin was committed. Today we will begin considering 1 Corinthians 15:1-2, and understand some more aspects about the gospel and about believing in it.

    It is written in 1 Corinthians 15:1-2, “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.” As we have seen earlier, the gospel is not meant to be created or concocted by the preacher, according to the people and circumstances at hand, but the God given gospel is to be declared and preached by the preacher, and received by the hearers. God has given the one universal gospel, called the “everlasting gospel” (Revelation 14:6), which is applicable and effective for all times, for all people, at all places, under all circumstances. In this God given everlasting gospel message is the power to convict people of their sins and change their lives, through the help of the Holy Spirit; no one needs to add anything to it to try to make it more effective. The Lord Jesus, in His final discourse with His disciples during the ‘Last Supper,’ in John chapters 14 to 16 gave some very important teachings about God the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit’s ministry amongst the disciples of the Lord. One of the teachings given by the Lord is that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13); therefore, the Holy Spirit will never be associated with anything that is not the truth. If the Holy Spirit is not actively associated in the preaching of the gospel, then the gospel will never be effective, i.e., it will not convict people of sins and have them accept Jesus as Lord (1 Corinthians 12:3).

    Any humanly contrived gospel, or God’s gospel that has been modified through human wisdom, thought, and understanding, is no longer the pure and true gospel as given by God. Hence, the Holy Spirit and His power will not be associated with any such gospel preaching and teaching; therefore, while the preaching of such a gospel may sound pleasing, attractive, interesting, educative, etc., but it will never bring any conviction for sins and change in the lives of the audience, since the power of the Holy Spirit is not in it. Paul said it very clearly, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect” (1 Corinthians 1:17).

    In Galatians 1:4-9, Paul, though the Holy Spirit, summarized the gospel once again (v. 4), and then strictly forbade the acceptance and propagation of any gospel that is in any way, any different from this original gospel, even if the altered gospel is preached and taught by an angel, or even by Paul himself. In this passage from Galatians, doing this has been called ‘perverting the gospel’ (v. 7), and those who alter the gospel, and preach not the original, but the modified or altered version have been called “accursed” (vs. 8-9). So, according to the Bible, no one, not even angels, Apostles, the learned scholars of the Scriptures, absolutely no one, has the authority or permission to alter or modify the gospel in any way, and/or preach an altered or modified or contrived gospel. Those who do so, pervert God’s Word and are accursed in God’s eyes; and if God sees anyone as guilty, then who can absolve him of wrongdoing and its consequences? Therefore, those engaged in the ministry of God’s Word, especially the evangelists, i.e., those who preach the gospel, must be very careful of what they preach and say; lest in their enthusiasm to make the gospel sound better and more effective through inserting their own thoughts and wisdom into it, they not only end up rendering it ineffective, but also become accursed in God’s eyes.

    We will continue considering some more about 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 in the next article.

    निकुदेमुस के साथ चर्चा में, जब निकुदेमुस परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के लिए नया-जन्म पाने की अनिवार्यता को लेकर असमंजस में था, तब प्रभु ने एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात कही थी, “नीकुदेमुस ने उसको उत्तर दिया; कि ये बातें क्योंकर हो सकती हैं? यह सुनकर यीशु ने उस से कहा; तू इस्राएलियों का गुरु हो कर भी क्या इन बातों को नहीं समझता?” (यूहन्ना 3:9-10)। अर्थात, इस्राएलियों का गुरु, उन्हें पवित्र शास्त्र की शिक्षा देने वाला होने के नाते, निकुदेमुस से अपेक्षा थी कि वह न केवल पवित्र शास्त्र से भली-भान्ति परिचित होगा, वरन नया-जन्म पाने की अनिवार्यता से भी अवगत होगा – जिसके लिए पापों से पश्चाताप करना आरम्भिक कदम है। और हम पहले के लेखों में पश्चात्ताप या मन-फिराव के बारे में देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर ने अपने नबियों के द्वारा इस्राएल से बारंबार पश्चाताप करने के लिए कहा, उन्हें यह करने के सन्देश भेजे (यिर्मयाह 25:4-5)। इसी प्रकार से भजनों में यह भी लिखा गया है कि परमेश्वर के साथ संपर्क में रहने के लिए मन की शुद्धता या पवित्रता अनिवार्य है (भजन 15; 51:6, 10; 73:1); और निकुदेमुस से यह अपेक्षा थी कि वह इन बातों को जानता होगा।

    एक तथ्य, जिसे बहुत ही कम लोग जानते हैं, है कि सुसमाचार, अर्थात, प्रभु यीशु मसीह में और उसके द्वारा मानवजाति के पापों के लिए दिए गए उसके बलिदान में विश्वास करना, यह परमेश्वर द्वारा कोई बाद में सोची गई बात नहीं था। यह एक ऐसी बात है जिसे परमेश्वर ने सृष्टि के समय से ही स्थापित कर दिया था – परमेश्वर के मेमने के रूप में प्रभु यीशु मसीह का बलिदान, जगत की उत्पत्ति के समय ही कर दिया गया था (प्रकाशितवाक्य 13:8), अर्थात पाप के सृष्टि में प्रवेश करने से भी पहले। यह दिखाता है कि सुसमाचार हमेशा से ही मनुष्य के लिए परमेश्वर की योजना का एक भाग रहा है। परमेश्वर सर्वज्ञानी है, और मनुष्य का पाप करना, उसके लिए कोई आकस्मिक या अनायास होने वाली अप्रत्याशित बात नहीं थी; और क्योंकि वह प्रेमी परमेश्वर है, इसलिए उसने पहले से ही मनुष्य को बचा लेने के लिए प्रावधान तैयार कर दिया था, बजाए इसके कि आदम को नष्ट करके उसके स्थान पर किसी दूसरे के द्वारा पृथ्वी को आबाद करता।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 25

 

    In the last article we have seen the meaning of the name of the Lord, “Jesus Christ” and have seen how believing in the Lord Jesus and believing in the gospel are the same. Earlier, when we had considered the implications and meanings of the gist of the gospel given in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, one of the things we had seen was that here in verses 3 and 4 the Holy Spirit, through Paul, had it written that the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus for the sins of mankind was according to the Scriptures; i.e., the gospel was according to the Scriptures – what we now know as the Old Testament. In other words, the gospel and believing in it, i.e., believing in the Lord Jesus were not later additions to God’s Word; but had been stated earlier even before the birth of the Lord Jesus, and were now being fulfilled with and after the Lord’s birth and ministry.

    We have seen that at the time of the Lord Jesus’s earthly ministry, there was an anticipation amongst the people of the appearance of the promised Messiah (Matthew 12:23; Luke 3:15; John 1:45; 4:25, 29; 7:41); they were expecting him, but did not how to identify him. This anticipation could only have come from the Scriptures, since there had been no prophet from God for about 400 years, since the time of Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament; and what the previous prophets had spoken had been recorded in the Scriptures.

    The promise and prophecy for a deliverer from sins, “the Seed of the woman” was given by God in the Garden of Eden itself, at the time of the first sin, in Genesis 3:15. Moses, in Deuteronomy 18:15 had prophesied of Prophet like him, whom the Israelites were to obey; and Stephen in his defence had referred to this, in Acts 7:37 about the Lord.

    Hebrews 10:7, “Then I said, 'Behold, I have come-- In the volume of the book it is written of Me-- To do Your will, O God” is about the Lord Jesus coming to earth from heaven, to do God’s will; and it is quoting Psalm 40:7. At both places it is said that in God’s book it is written about the Messiah, the deliverer.

    In the discussions with Nicodemus, when Nicodemus was perplexed about the necessity of being Born-Again to enter God’s Kingdom, the Lord Jesus made a very significant statement, “Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?” (John 3:9-10). As the teacher of Israel, i.e., as one who taught the Scriptures to the Israelites, it was expected that Nicodemus would not only be well versed in the Scriptures, but because of being well versed in the Scriptures, would also know about the necessity of being Born-Again – for which repentance from sins is the first step; implying that this was something already a part of the Scriptures. And we had seen in the earlier articles when learning about repentance, that God through His prophets had repeatedly given messages to repent to the Israelites (Jeremiah 25:4-5). Similarly, the purity of heart is a necessity to communing with God has been stated in the Psalms, in Psalm 15; 51:6, 10; 73:1; and Nicodemus was expected to be aware of this.

    A little realized fact is that the gospel, i.e., salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus and His sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was not an after-thought by God. It was something that God had put in place since the time of creation – the Lord Jesus, as the lamb of God had been sacrificed at the time of foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8), i.e., even before sin entered the world – thereby showing that the gospel was always a part of the plan of God for man. God being the omniscient God, had not been taken unawares by the sin of man, and being the loving God that He is, had already made the provisions for redeeming man, instead of destroying Adam and re-populating the earth with someone else.

    In the coming articles we will continue to look at some other aspects related to the gospel.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का क्या अर्थ है। हमने देखा कि सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का पूर्ण तात्पर्य प्रभु यीशु मसीह और उसके कार्य से सम्बन्धित है, विशेषकर उसके क्रूस पर मारे जाने, गाड़े जाने और मृतकों में से जी उठने के साथ। और इसमें कभी भी कहीं पर भी पहले किसी शर्त को पूरा करने, किसी धर्म का, किसी धार्मिक प्रक्रिया अथवा अनुष्ठानों की पूर्ति का, किसी प्रकार के कार्यों का, या किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा प्रभु और पश्चातापी व्यक्ति के मध्य किसी प्रकार की मध्यस्थता करने का कोई स्थान नहीं है। हर बात पश्चाताप करने वाले मनुष्य के स्वेच्छा से किये गए निर्णय पर निर्भर है। पश्चातापी मनुष्य का पवित्र आत्मा तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा परिवर्तित होने का आरम्भ उस व्यक्ति के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार कर लेने के बाद आरम्भ होता है। आज हम देखेंगे कि सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना और प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करना, दोनों एक ही बात हैं।

    “यीशु” नाम का अर्थ और व्यक्ति के जीवन में सुसमाचार के अर्थ और उसके कार्यकारी होने का अर्थ, एक ही बात हैं। नाम “यीशु मसीह” में ‘यीशु’ प्रभु का नाम है, और ‘मसीह’ उसकी उपाधि या उसे सौंपा गया कार्य है, अर्थात, परमेश्वर ने जो उसे करना सौंपा था। शब्द ‘मसीह’ का अर्थ होता है ‘मस्सा या अभिषेक’ किया हुआ, अर्थात वह जो किसी उद्देश्य अथवा कार्य के लिए तैयार करके नियुक्त किया गया है। नाम ‘यीशु’ और लोगों का भी था (उदाहरण के लिये कुलुस्सियों 4:11 देखिए); लेकिन नाम ‘यीशु’ के साथ जोड़ी गई उपाधि ‘मसीह’ हमें बताती है कि “यह वह यीशु है जिसे परमेश्वर ने मसीहा या छुटकारा देने वाला नियुक्त किया है।” हमें शब्द ‘यीशु’ का अर्थ भी समझना आवश्यक है; मत्ती 1:21 में स्वर्गदूत ने यूसुफ से कहा, “वह पुत्र जनेगी और तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना; क्योंकि वह अपने लोगों का उन के पापों से उद्धार करेगा” – यही ‘यीशु’ शब्द का अर्थ है – वह जो अपने लोगों को उनके पापों से बचाता है। शब्द ‘यीशु’ इब्रानी भाषा की एक संयुक्त संज्ञा ‘यहोशुआ’ से आया है, और इसी शब्द से यहोशू और होशे शब्द भी आए हैं। यहोशुआ इब्रानी भाषा के दो शब्दों ‘यहोवा’ और ‘शुआ’ से मिलकर बना है। यहाँ पर ‘यहोवा’ तो परमेश्वर का नाम है, और ‘शुआ’ का अर्थ है ‘मुक्त करने वाला’ या ‘बचाने वाला’ और इसलिए यहोशुआ और उससे बने सभी शब्दों का अर्थ है “यहोवा, अर्थात परमेश्वर मुक्त करता है; या परमेश्वर बचाता है।” यीशु नाम का भी यही अर्थ है – परमेश्वर मुक्त करता है या परमेश्वर बचाता है; और यीशु मसीह का अर्थ है वह जिसे परमेश्वर ने मुक्त करने या बचाने के लिए निर्धारित किया है। अर्थात, न तो कोई धर्म, न किसी धार्मिक अनुष्ठान का निर्वाह, न किसी प्रकार के कोई कार्य; बल्कि केवल परमेश्वर और उसके अतिरिक्त अन्य कोई नहीं, कुछ नहीं जो पश्चाताप करने वाले पापी को प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास करने के द्वारा, अपनी दया और अनुग्रह में होकर बचाता है।

    स्वर्गदूत ने मत्ती 1:21 में जो यूसुफ से कहा, उस बात पर ध्यान कीजिए – यीशु उन्हें उनके पापों से बचाएगा जो उसके लोग है; अर्थात जैसे ही लोग अपने पापों की दशा में ही ‘उसके लोग’ बनते हैं, वह उन्हें उनके पापों से बचा लेता है। बाइबल का यह अर्थ और अभिप्राय ईसाई या मसीही धर्म के अन्तर्गत गढ़ी गई और सिखाई जाने वाली उस धारणा से बिलकुल विपरीत है कि जो लोग कुछ निर्धारित धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह के द्वारा अपने पापों से बच जाते हैं, प्रभु उन्हें अपने लोग बनाता है। लेकिन बाइबल की शिक्षा है कि व्यक्ति को अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने और यीशु को अपना प्रभु स्वीकार करने, उसे जीवन समर्पित करने, अर्थात नया-जन्म पाने के द्वारा पहले ‘उसके लोग’ बनना है; और जब वे ऐसा करेंगे तो यीशु उन्हें उनके पापों से बचा लेगा। जबकि ईसाई या मसीही धर्म की सामान्य किन्तु गलत शिक्षा है कि व्यक्ति को अपने आप से भला बनना है, भले कामों तथा धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों के निर्वाह के द्वारा उद्धार पाना है, और उसके बाद ही यीशु उसे ‘अपने लोग’ स्वीकार करेगा। यह बात न केवल स्वर्गदूत द्वारा परमेश्वर की ओर से कही गई बात के विरुद्ध है, बल्कि बाइबल की मौलिक शिक्षा के, कि उद्धार किसी प्रकार के कामों से नहीं, केवल परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह ही के द्वारा है (इफिसियों 2:1-9; तीतुस 3:5) के भी विरुद्ध है। बाइबल में दिया गया ‘यीशु’ शब्द का अर्थ, बाइबल में दिया गया ‘सुसमाचार’ शब्द का अर्थ, और ‘सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने’ का अर्थ एक ही हैं, उनमें किसी प्रकार की कोई भिन्नता नहीं है। यीशु में विश्वास करना, सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना है; और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करना, यीशु में विश्वास करना है।

    हम आने वाले लेखों में सुसमाचार के अर्थ और सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने के अर्थ तथा इन से सम्बन्धित बातों को और आगे देखेंगे।

Teachings Related to the Gospel – 24

 

    In the previous article we have seen what it Biblically means to believe in the gospel. We saw that believing in the gospel has everything to do with the Lord Jesus Christ and His work, especially His death on the cross, His burial and His resurrection from the dead; and that there was no role or mention of anything related to any preconditions, any religion, fulfilling any religious observance, any kind of works, or any mediation or role of any person between the Lord and the repentant man. Everything was dependant upon the voluntary decision of the repentant man. The transformation of the saved man through the work of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word started after the person had accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior. Today we will see how believing in the gospel and believing in the Lord Jesus are the same.

    This meaning and working of the gospel in a person’s life is what the name “Jesus” means. In the name “Jesus Christ” ‘Jesus’ is the Lord’s name, and ‘Christ’ is His office or designation, i.e., what He was ordained for by God. The word ‘Christ’ means ‘the anointed one,’ or one who has been ordained for a mission or purpose. Others too had the name ‘Jesus’ (e.g., Colossians 4:11); but the ‘designation’ Christ along with the name Jesus tells us who He is – “that Jesus who was ordained by God to be the Messiah, the deliverer.” We also need to understand the meaning of the word ‘Jesus;’ in Matthew 1:21, the angel says to Joseph, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” – that is what the name ‘Jesus’ means – He who saves His people from their sins. The English word Jesus has come from a compound Hebrew word Jehoshua from which other words like Joshua, and Hosea have also been derived. Jehoshua is made up of two Hebrew words – JEHOVAH, and SHUA; JEHOVAH, of course is the name of God, the word SHUA means ‘to set free’ or ‘to save.’ Therefore, the word Jehoshua, and the other words derived from it mean “Jehovah, i.e., God sets free; or God saves.” That is what the name ‘Jesus’ means – God sets free, or saves; and Jesus Christ means, the one ordained by God to set free or save – i.e., not any religion, not any religious observances, not any kind of works, but God and God alone saves the repentant sinner coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, in His grace and mercy.

    Note from what the angel said to Joseph in Matthew 1:21 – Jesus will save those who are His people from their sins, i.e., as people become ‘His people’ while in their sins, He will save them from their sins. This Biblical meaning and implication is quite unlike the common misconception fostered and maintained under the Christian religion that those who through fulfilling the prescribed religious observances are saved from their sins will become His people. But the Biblical teaching is that a person has to first become ‘His People’ through repenting of sins, accepting Jesus as their Lord and submitting to Him, i.e., being Born-Again, and when they do so, Jesus will save them from their sins. Whereas the common misconception and wrong teaching of the Christian religion is that a person has to become good enough, get saved through fulfilling some religious observances and good works, and then Jesus will take them as ‘His people.’ This not only goes against what the angel from God said to Joseph, but also contradicts the basic Biblical teaching of salvation being only by the grace of God, and not by works of any kind (Ephesians 2:1-9; Titus 3:5). The actual Bible given meaning of “Jesus,” the Biblical meaning of ‘gospel,’ and the meaning of ‘believing in the gospel’ are the same, there is no difference of any kind. To believe in the gospel is to believe in the Lord Jesus, and vice-versa.

    We will continue to look into other aspects related to the meaning of the gospel and believing in the gospel, and the implications in the coming articles.
