मसीही जीवन के सात कदम - 1

परमेश्वर के वचन से बढ़ोतरी पर हमारे बाइबल अध्ययन के इस खण्ड में, वर्तमान में हम बाइबल की शिक्षाओं की तीसरी श्रेणी के बारे में देख रहे हैं, जो मसीही विश्वासियों और कलीसिया की आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी के लिए आवश्यक हैं। हम देख चुके हैं कि आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी और भक्ति के जीवन के लिए आवश्यक शिक्षाएँ पूरी बाइबल में स्थान-स्थान पर दी गई हैं। लेकिन बाइबल में दो ऐसे स्थान हैं जहाँ पर यह विशेषतः दिखाया गया है कि वहाँ दी गई शिक्षाओं का पालन करने से विश्वासियों और कलीसिया में बढ़ोतरी हुई। इन दो स्थानों में से पहला है प्रेरितों के काम का 2 अध्याय, और दूसरा स्थान प्रेरितों के काम का 15 अध्याय है। इसलिए हम अपने ध्यान को मुख्यतः इन दोनों स्थानों में दी गई बाइबल की शिक्षाओं पर केंद्रित रखेंगे। ऐसा इसलिए नहीं है कि केवल यही शिक्षाएँ आवश्यक हैं; और न ही इसलिए कि ये शिक्षाएँ अन्य शिक्षाओं से अधिक महत्वपूर्ण हैं, और इन्हें छोड़ बाइबल की शेष शिक्षाओं को वैकल्पिक माना जा सकता है। आधारभूत बात यही है कि, बाइबल का हर एक शब्द, बाइबल की सभी शिक्षाएँ, समान रूप से आवश्यक हैं, अनिवार्य हैं, और सभी का समान रूप से पालन करना आवश्यक है। लेकिन हम केवल इन्ही शिक्षाओं पर ध्यान इसलिए केंद्रित करेंगे क्योंकि हम परमेश्वर के वचन में देखते हैं कि इन शिक्षाओं का पालन करने के द्वारा, परमेश्वर के लोग, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के अनुयायी, न केवल बाइबल में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई शिक्षाओं को भी समझ सके और उनका पालन कर सके, बल्कि साथ ही शैतान और उसकी गलत शिक्षाओं के विरुद्ध दृढ़ता से खड़े रह सके, उन पर विजयी हो सके, और इनका पालन करने के द्वारा मसीही विश्वासी तथा कलीसियाएँ तेजी से बढ़ती चली गईं। आज हम प्रेरितों 2:40-42 में दी गई शिक्षाओं पर विचार करने के साथ आरम्भ करेंगे, जहाँ मसीही विश्वास और बढ़ोतरी के लिए आवश्यक सात कदम दिए गए हैं।

प्रेरितों 2:37 में हम देखते हैं कि पश्चाताप करने वाले भक्ति यहूदी, अपनी वास्तविक आत्मिक दशा का बोध होने के बाद, पतरस और अन्य शिष्यों से पूछते हैं कि वे क्या करें? फिर प्रेरितों 2:38-42 में वे सात बातें या सात कदम दिए गए हैं जो पतरस ने पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में उनसे करने के लिए कहे। ये सात बातें मसीही जीवन जीने और उसमें बढ़ोतरी के लिए, कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी होती रहने के लिए, आधारभूत या नींव के समान हैं। ये 7 बातें इस प्रकार से हैं:

प्रेरितों 2:38 में - 

1. पश्चाताप करना

2. बपतिस्मा लेना 

प्रेरितों  2:40 में - 

3. बुरे या दुष्ट लोगों से दूर हो जाना 

इसके बाद लिखा गया है, “सो जिन्होंने उसका वचन ग्रहण किया उन्होंने बपतिस्मा लिया; और उसी दिन तीन हजार मनुष्यों के लगभग उन में मिल गए” (प्रेरितों 2:41)। फिर, जो लोग प्रभु के शिष्यों के साथ जुड़ गए, वे लौलीन होकर, चार अन्य बातें भी किया करते थे, जो प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई हैं - 

4. परमेश्वर का वचन सीखना 

5. परमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों के साथ संगति रखना 

6. प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होना 

7. प्रार्थना का जीवन रखना 

इन सात बातों में हम, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के प्रभावी और परिपक्व शिष्य या अनुयायी बनने की ओर होने वाली क्रमवार, उन्नति के कदमों देखते हैं। इसका आरम्भ परमेश्वर के वचन को सुनने से होता है; वह वचन जो परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन में प्रचार किया और सिखाया गया हो। ऐसा वचन सीधी और साधारण भाषा में सुनाया जाता है, मनुष्य के भय के बिना स्पष्ट रीति से बोला जाता है, प्रचारक को इस बात की चिन्ता नहीं होती है कि वह मनुष्यों को प्रसन्न कर रहा है, या, उनको अप्रसन्न कर रहा है; उसका उद्देश्य केवल परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करना और परमेश्वर के प्रति विश्वास योग्य होना होता है; और वह परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में यह वचन देता है। जब ऐसा किया जाता है तो पतरस के समान एक अनपढ़ और साधारण सा व्यक्ति, जिसके पास ना तो कोई धर्म-ज्ञान का प्रशिक्षण था, और ना कोई डिग्री थी, वह भी हजारों भक्त यहूदियों के सामने खड़ा हो सका, निडर होकर बोल सका, और परमेश्वर ने उसे अपने लिए बहुतायत से उपयोग किया।

परमेश्वर का वचन, पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से, लोगों को दोष-बोध करवाता है, उन्हें उनके हृदय की वास्तविक दशा को दिखाता है, और उनकी सारी धार्मिकता तथा निर्धारित परम्पराओं और रीतियों के पालन के बावजूद, वास्तविकता में उनका परमेश्वर से दूर होना दिखाता है। उन्हें जिनके हृदय छेदे गए हैं, परमेश्वर का वचन और पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें अपनी वास्तविक दशा का समाधान ढूंढने के लिए उकसाता है। इस समाधान के लिए वे लौट कर उन्हीं बातों और उन उन्हीं लोगों के पास नहीं जाते हैं जिनका वे अनुसरण करते आए हैं, लेकिन फिर भी परमेश्वर से दूर ही बने रहे। लेकिन वह उस समाधान को उनसे पता करते हैं जिन्होंने परमेश्वर के वचन को उन्हें स्पष्ट और खुलासे से बताया, और उनकी आँखों को उनकी वास्तविक दशा के लिए खोला है।

परमेश्वर के वचन और पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा जिन लोगों को अपने पापों का दोष-बोध होता है, उन्हें जो पहला कदम उठाना आवश्यक है वह है पश्चाताप करना। यहाँ पर एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात है जिस पर ध्यान देना बहुत जरूरी है; एक ऐसी बात जिसे आज कलीसियाओं में शायद ही कभी, कहीं सिखाया जाता हो। इस बात पर गम्भीरता से विचार कीजिए कि यदि उस समय के उन भक्त यहूदियों को पश्चाताप करना अनिवार्य था, तो फिर आज के ईसाइयों या मसीहियों के लिए, चाहे वे भक्त हों या ना हों, क्या उन्हें परमेश्वर से मेल-मिलाप करने के लिए पश्चाताप करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है? पश्चाताप केवल गैर-मसीहियों के लिए ही नहीं है; वास्तव में यह परमेश्वर की आज्ञा है, कि हर कोई हर स्थान पर पश्चाताप करे (प्रेरितों 17:30)। यह सच्चा पश्चाताप हृदय में किया जाता है, और दो बातों को करने के द्वारा बाहर प्रकट किया जाता है। पहली बात है बपतिस्मा लेना और इस तरह से मन में हुए परिवर्तन की सँसार के सामने गवाही देना। दूसरी बात है अपने आप को सँसार और सँसार के लोगों और उनके तौर-तरीकों से अलग कर लेना, जैसा की प्रेरितों 2:40 के तीसरे कदम में लिखा गया है। इस बात की पुष्टि कई अन्य पदों से भी होती है जैसे कि रोमियों 6:13; 12:1-2; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:15, 17; 6:17; इफिसियों 4:17; फिलिप्पियों 2:15; इत्यादि। जब तक कि सँसार और सँसार के लोगों से अलगाव का जीवन नहीं होगा, शैतान के पास व्यक्ति को साँसारिक जीवन और पाप में बहका कर ले जाने का अवसर मिलता रहेगा।

एक बार व्यक्ति पश्चाताप कर ले, अपने आप को प्रभु को समर्पित कर दे, कि उसका आज्ञाकारी बना रहे, अर्थात, उसका नया-जन्म हो जाए, तो फिर विश्वास में स्थापित रहने और अपने मसीही जीवन में बढ़ते जाने के लिए, उसे चार अन्य बातों को करते रहना भी आवश्यक है; केवल औपचारिकता के रूप में नहीं, वरन लौलीन होकर, अर्थात, परिश्रम के साथ और नियमित रूप से। यह चार बातें हैं परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षा पाना; परमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों के साथ संगति रखना, प्रभु भोज में सम्मिलित होना, और प्रार्थना का, अर्थात परमेश्वर से संपर्क का जीवन बनाए रखना।

इन सात बातों को करने वाले लोगों के जीवनों, उनके उदाहरण, और उनकी गवाही के द्वारा मसीही विश्वासियों की सँख्या और कलीसियाएँ बढ़ती चली गईं और लोग प्रभु अपनी कलीसियाओं में लोगों को जोड़ता चला गया (प्रेरितों 2:47; 4:4; 5:14; 11:24)। अगले लेख से हम इन सातों बातों को एक-एक करके देखना आरम्भ करेंगे। इनमें से कुछ को इस श्रृंखला के आरम्भिक भागों में पहले ही देख चुके हैं, इसलिए हम बस उनका एक पुनःअवलोकन भर करेंगे, और शेष बातों को कुछ विस्तार से देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Things Related to Christian Living – 4

The Seven Steps of Christian Living - 1

In this section of our Bible study on growing through God’s Word in our Christian lives, we are now studying the third category of Biblical teachings necessary for the spiritual growth of the Christian Believers and of the Church. We have seen that the teachings for spiritual growth and godly living have been given throughout the Bible. But we have two places in the Bible, where it has specifically been shown that by following the teachings given there, there was growth in the Believers and the Church. The first of these two is in Acts chapter 2; and the second is in Acts chapter 15. Therefore, we will be mainly concentrating upon the teachings given at these two places in the Bible. This is neither because these are the only necessary teachings; nor because they are more important than others, and the others can be treated as ‘optional.’ The basic fact is that every word and teaching of the Bible is equally essential, equally necessary, and equally to be obeyed. But we will be concentrating upon these teachings because we see from God’s Word that by following these teachings, the people of God, the followers of the Lord Jesus, could also understand and follow the other teachings given at various places in God’s Word; could stand up firmly and victoriously against the devil, his people, and his false teachings; and the Christian Believers and the Churches could grow rapidly by following them. Today we will start considering the teachings given in Acts 2:40-42; where 7 steps to Christian faith and growth are given.

In Acts 2:37, the repentant devout Jews, realizing their actual spiritual condition, asked Peter and the other disciples, what should they do? In Acts 2:38-42 are given 7 things or steps that Peter under the guidance of the Holy Spirit asked them to do. These are 7 actions that form the bedrock of Christian life and Church growth. They are:

In Acts 2:38 -

1. Repent

2. Be Baptized

 

In Acts 2:40 -

3. Be Separated from perverse or evil people

After this, it is written “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them” (Acts 2:41). Those who were added to the disciples of the Lord, steadfastly did four other things, as have been given in Acts 2:42 - 

4. Learn God's Word

5. Fellowship with God's children

6. Partake in the Holy Communion

7. Have a life of Prayer

In these seven things we see a step-by-step progression for becoming an effective and mature disciple or follower of the Lord Jesus. It starts with hearing God’s Word, that is preached and taught under the guidance and power of God the Holy Spirit. It is spoken in simple and straightforward language, plainly and without fear of man, without being concerned about the preacher being pleasing or offending to man, but only with the intention of being faithful and pleasing to God, and obeying Him. When this is done, even an uneducated and imperfect person like Peter, without any theological training or degree, could stand up to thousands of devout Jews, speak boldly, and be used mightily by God.

God’s Word, through the power of the Holy Spirit convicts people, shows them the real condition of their hearts, their actual separation from God despite their religiosity and fulfilling of the prescribed practices and traditions. God’s Word and the Holy Spirit provokes those cut to their hearts to seek the remedy to their condition, not by returning back to the people and system that they have been following and yet living far from God, but from those who have openly and clearly spoken God’s Word to them, and opened their eyes to their actual condition.

Now, the first step those convicted by God’s Word and Holy Spirit need to take is repent. There is something very important to take note of over here; something that is practically never taught to the people in Churches these days. Seriously consider that if the devout Jews of that time needed to repent, then the “christians” of today, whether devout or not, don’t they too need to repent to be reconciled to God? Repentance is not just for the non-christians; in fact it is God’s commandment that all, that everyone, everywhere repent (Acts 17:30). This repentance takes place in the heart, and is manifested by doing two things. The first is taking baptism and thereby witnessing before the world the inner transformation. The second is to separate themselves from the ways and people of the world as it says in the third step given Acts 2:40. This is also affirmed in verses like Romans 6:13; 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:15, 17; 6:17; Ephesians 4:17; Philippians 2:15; etc. Unless this life of separation from the people and ways of the world is practiced, Satan will soon lead the person away into the former worldly life of sin.

Once a person has repented, and submitted himself to the Lord, to be obedient to Him, i.e., has been Born-Again, to stay established in the faith and grow in their Christian lives, four other things need to be done, not perfunctorily but steadfastly, i.e., diligently and regularly. These four are, Learn God’s Word; Fellowship with God’s children; Partake in the Holy Communion; maintain a life of Prayer, i.e., of communicating with God.

Through the life, example, and witnessing of the people doing these seven things, the number of Believers and the Church grew, and the Lord started adding people to His Church (Acts 2:47; 4:4; 5:14; 11:24). From the next article we will start considering these seven things one by one. Some of them have already been considered in the earlier parts of this series, we will just revise them, and consider the others in some details.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में उल्लेखित छः आरंभिक बातों में से हम अभी पहली बात, अर्थात “मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराना” पर विचार कर रहे हैं। हम देख चुके हैं कि “मरे हुए काम” वे धार्मिक और भले प्रतीत होने वाले काम हैं जिनसे विश्वासियों को कोई आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी अथवा परिपक्वता नहीं मिलती है, चाहे उन्हें बहुत भक्ति, श्रद्धा, और लगन से क्यों न किया जाए। पिछले लेखों में हमने दो तरह के कामों के उदाहरणों को बाइबल से देखा है, जो कि मसीहियों के द्वारा बहुत सामान्य रीति से किए  जाते हैं, स्वयं-निर्धारित सेवकाइयाँ (मत्ती 7:21-23), और स्वयं-निर्धारित उपासना (मत्ती 15:3-9), किन्तु उनसे उन्हें कोई आत्मिक लाभ नहीं मिलते हैं। आज हम एक अन्य प्रकार के “मरे हुए काम” के बाइबल से उदाहरण को देखेंगे, जो नया-जन्म पाने और पवित्र आत्मा से सम्बन्धित है, अर्थात स्वयं-निर्धारित उद्धार। बहुत से लोग अपने नया-जन्म पाए हुए होने के बारे में स्पष्ट नहीं है, न ही यह जाँच पाने के बारे में कि वे वास्तव में विश्वास में हैं भी कि नहीं (2 कुरिन्थियों 13:5)। बहुधा बाहरी स्वरूप और व्यवहार, तथा अन्य नया-जन्म पाए हुए लोगों के समान जीवन जीने और काम करने के आधार पर अधिकाँश मसीही या ईसाई यह समझ लेते हैं कि उन्होंने भी नया-जन्म पा लिया है, इसलिए वे परमेश्वर की सन्तान हैं और परमेश्वर की अनन्तकालीन स्वर्गीय आशीषों के तथा स्वर्ग के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के हकदार हैं। लेकिन यह उनकी अपनी गढ़ी हुई बात है, एक शैतानी धोखा, जिस में उन्हें फँसा दिया गया है।

    प्रेरितों 8:5-25 में, सामरिया के एक नगर में, फिलिप्पुस की सुसमाचार प्रचार की सेवकाई की एक घटना दर्ज की गई है। उस नगर में शमौन नामक एक जादू-टोना करने वाला था, जो अपने आप  को एक बड़ा पुरुष बताता था, और वहाँ के स्थानीय लोग भी मानते थे कि उसमें ईश्वर की बड़ी सामर्थ्य है, और उससे बहुत प्रभावित थे (प्रेरितों 8:9-11)। लेकिन जब फिलिप्पुस ने उस नगर में सुसमाचार का प्रचार किया, तो बहुत से लोग प्रभु की ओर मुड़ गए, और उन मुड़ने वालों में से शमौन भी एक था (प्रेरितों 8:12-13)। उसके बारे में पद 13 में लिखा गया है कि उसने विश्वास किया, उसका बपतिस्मा हुआ, और वह फिलिप्पुस के साथ रहता था, अर्थात वह फिलिप्पुस के साथ संगति में रहने लगा; और वह चमत्कार और अद्भुत कार्यों को देखकर चकित होता था। जब प्रेरितों पतरस और यूहन्ना की सेवकाई के द्वारा नगर के लोगों ने पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त किया (प्रेरितों 8:14-17), तो इससे शमौन और भी अधिक चकित हुआ। शमौन ने विश्वासियों के जीवनों में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति की सामर्थ्य को समझा और उसने भी चाहा कि उसे भी औरों को पवित्र देने की सामर्थ्य मिले, और यह सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने के लिए वह धन देने के लिए तैयार था (प्रेरितों 8:18-19)। पवित्र आत्मा के विषय शमौन के विचार, यह सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने के लिए उसका धन देने का प्रस्ताव करना, इस बात के संकेत हैं कि यद्यपि वह सुसमाचार में विश्वास करने का दावा करता था, उसने बपतिस्मा भी लिया था, और वह सुसमाचार प्रचारक फिलिप्पुस के साथ संगति में रहा करता था, लेकिन फिर भी उसका नया-जन्म नहीं हुआ था; अन्यथा उसे भी औरों के साथ पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त हो जाता, जो फिर उसे वह नहीं कहने देता जो उसने कहा था। उसके वास्तव में नया जन्म न पाने, और उसमें अभी भी अपरिवर्तित मन होने की पुष्टि उसे पतरस द्वारा प्रेरितों 8:2-24 में लगाई गई डाँट से हो जाती है; साथ ही यह भी ध्यान कीजिए कि पतरस उस से मन फिराने और उसके मन की दुष्टता के लिए परमेश्वर से क्षमा माँगने की प्रार्थना करने के लिए कहता है (प्रेरितों 8:22-23), लेकिन पतरस से उसे मिले इस निर्देश का शमौन पालन नहीं करता है, बल्कि उलटे पतरस से ही कहता है कि वह ही उसके लिए प्रार्थना करे। पतरस से कही गई उसकी इस बात पर ध्यान कीजिए – वह यह नहीं कहता है कि उसे क्षमा मिलने और उसका वास्तव में उधर हो जाने की प्रार्थना करे, वरन यह कि पतरस द्वारा जो बातें उसके लिए कही गई थीं, वे घटित न हों। दूसरे शब्दों में, अभी भी उसका मन परिवर्तन नहीं हुआ था। उसे बस भौतिक वस्तुओं की चिन्ता थी, ऐसी बातों की जिन से उसे औरों पर नियंत्रण एवं सामर्थ्य मिल सके, जिन से वह अपने आप को बड़ा दिखा सके। उसे अपनी आत्मिक दशा की भी चिन्ता नहीं थी और न ही उस अनन्तकालीन विनाश की जो, यदि वह पश्चाताप न करे, तो उसके सामने धरा था।

    शमौन अपने बाहरी परिवर्तन, बपतिस्मा लेने, और फिलिप्पुस के साथ संगति करने के कारण स्वयं ही यह मान बैठा था कि उसने भी नया-जन्म पा लिया है, उद्धार प्राप्त कर लिया है। लेकिन अन्य लोगों के समान उसका पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त न करना, जो उसके द्वारा व्यक्ति में पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति होने के कारण कही जाने वाले बातों के विपरीत बातें कहने से प्रकट है, और एक ढीठ एवं अपश्चातापी मन रखना था, उसकी वास्तविकता को प्रकट करते हैं। लगभग ऐसी ही स्थिति अधिकाँश मसीहियों के साथ भी है। वे यह मान लेते हैं कि उन्होंने “नया-जन्म” पा लिया है, वे परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य हैं, और इस पृथ्वी के उनके जीवन के समाप्त होने पर वे परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश करने के योग्य इसलिए होंगे क्योंकि उन्होंने धर्म की कुछ रीतियों और परम्पराओं का पालन किया है, क्योंकि वे एक निर्धारित प्रकार का व्यवहार करते हैं – जैसा कि “मसीहियों” सी अपेक्षित है, तथा वे अन्य नया-जन्म पाए हुए लोगों के साथ संगति रखते हैं। लेकिन उनके मनों की दशा कुछ और ही होती है, उनके मन वास्तव में पश्चातापी एवं परमेश्वर को समर्पित नहीं होते हैं, न ही उनके मन परमेश्वर की महिमा करना चाहते हैं; वरन, वे परमेश्वर और भक्ति को साँसारिक लाभ अर्जित करने के लिए उपयोग करना चाहते हैं (1 तीमुथियुस 6:9)।

    इन ऊपरी बातों से परमेश्वर कभी बहकाया नहीं जा सकता है; उसे पता है कि उसके लोग कौन हैं; वह प्रत्येक के मन को जानता है; और उसके वचन से बढ़ोतरी पाने के लिए, व्यक्ति को बुराई से दूर हटने के साथ आरम्भ करना पड़ता है (यूहन्ना 2:24-25; 2 तीमुथियुस 2:19; 1 पतरस 2:1-2), क्योंकि यदि व्यक्ति के मन में बुराई होगी तो परमेश्वर उसकी नहीं सुनेगा (भजन 66:18)। प्रत्येक मसीही को अपने उद्धार पाए हुए होने और उसके वास्तव में नया-जन्म पा लेने को जाँच-परख लेना चाहिए। यदि उद्धार पाने या नया-जन्म पाने की अपनी दशा के बारे में ज़रा भी शंका है तो 1 यूहन्ना 2:3-6 में दी गई बातों के आधार पर अपने आप को जाँच लेना चाहिए। ध्यान कीजिए कि यहाँ पर प्रभु किसी से भी पूर्ण सिद्धता एवं पवित्रता की माँग नहीं कर रहा है; वह जानता है कि हम मिट्टी ही हैं (भजन 103:14), और यह कि हम सब पापों में गिरते ही रहते हैं (1 यूहन्ना 1:8-10)। प्रभु यही चाहता है कि सच में मन फिराएँ और उसे समर्पित हो जाएँ, और हम में उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता में चलने की सच्ची लालसा हो, न कि हम मात्र औपचारिकताएं निभाने के लिए बाहरी दिखावा और ऊपरी व्यवहार करते रहें। इस प्रकार का यह ऊपरी या स्वयं ही निर्धारित उद्धार पाया हुआ होना भी एक प्रकार का “मरा हुआ काम” है जिससे कोई भी आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी अथवा परिपक्वता नहीं होती है, इसलिए, इससे पहले कि बहुत देर हो जाए, इस मरे हुए काम से भी मन फिराना और स्थिति को सही करना अनिवार्य है।

    यह घटना हमारे प्रभु की सहनशीलता और विलम्ब से क्रोध करने के गुण को भी दिखाती है, और यह भी कि कैसे वह सभी को बारंबार मन फिराने, उसकी ओर लौट आने, उद्धार पाने के अवसर देता रहता है (2 पतरस 3:9)। किन्तु जो ढिठाई से मन फिराने और उसे समर्पित हो जाने की उसकी पुकार को अनसुना करते रहते हैं, फिर अन्ततः उन्हें अपने इनकार में बने रहने और परमेश्वर की दया को अस्वीकार करने के परिणामों को भुगतना ही पड़ेगा। अगले लेख में हम यहाँ से आगे देखेंगे।

Repentance From Dead Works - 5

 

    Of the six elementary principles mentioned in Hebrews 6:1-2, we are presently considering the first one, i.e., “repentance from Dead Works.” We have seen that the term “dead works” refers to those seemingly religious and good works which do not result in any spiritual growth and maturity in the life of Believers, even though done very piously, reverentially, and sincerely. In the preceding articles, we have seen Biblical examples of two kinds of works, presumed ministries (Matthew 7:21-23), and presumed worship and following the Lord (Matthew 15:3-9), very commonly done by the Christians, but without any spiritual benefits in their lives. Today, we will consider the Biblical example of another kind of “dead works” related to being Born-Again and the Holy Spirit, i.e., presumed salvation. Many people are not clear about their being Born-Again, or how to discern whether they truly are in the faith or not (2 Corinthians 13:5). Very often due to external appearances and behavior, living and doing things like other Born-Again people do, most Christians tend to assume that they are also Born-Again, thereby, are the children of God, and qualify for God’s eternal heavenly blessings and being in the Kingdom of God. But this is a presumption on their part, a satanic deception, into which they have been brought.

    In Acts 8:5-25 we have an incidence of the evangelical ministry of Philip, in a city of Samaria. In that city there was a sorcerer, named Simon, and not only did he claim to be someone great, but the local people also thought that he had great powers from god, and were in great awe of him (Acts 8:9-11). But when Philip preached the gospel in that city, many people turned to the Lord, and Simon the sorcerer was also amongst those who turned to the Lord (Acts 8:12-13). It is written about him in verse 13 that he believed, he was baptized, and he continued with Philip, i.e., was in a steady fellowship with Philip; and was amazed seeing the miracles and signs which were done. When the people of the city received the Holy Spirit through the ministry of the Apostles Peter and John (Acts 8:14-17), it amazed Simon even more. Simon realized the power of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Believers, and he too wanted to have the power to give the Holy Spirit to others, and was willing to pay money to get this power (Acts 8:18-19). Simon’s thinking about the Holy Spirit, and his offering money for getting this power, are the indicators that though he claimed to have believed the gospel, had taken baptism, and was in fellowship with Philip the evangelist, yet he was not truly Born-Again; else he too would have received the Holy Spirit along with others, and the Holy Spirit in him, would have never let him say what he did. His not being truly Born-Again, and his still having an unregenerated heart was affirmed by Peter’s admonition of him in Acts 8:20-24; also notice that though Peter asks him to repent and pray to God for the forgiveness of his wickedness (Acts 8:22-23), yet Simon does not accept Peter’s instruction, instead asks him, i.e., Peter to pray for him. Notice the content of his request to Peter – it is not that he may be forgiven and truly be saved, be actually Born-Again, but that the things spoken by Peter may not come upon him. In other words, he still did not have a truly repentant heart. All he was bothered about was temporal things, things that gave him a hold or some power over people, showed him to be someone great; he was not even concerned about his spiritual state and the eternal destruction that lay ahead of him if he did not repent.

    Simon, who because of his external change, taking baptism, and being in the fellowship with Philip assumed that he too was Born-Again, was saved. But his not receiving the Holy Spirit along with others – evidenced by his saying and asking for things contrary to the presence of the Holy Spirit in a person, and a stubborn, unrepentant heart, exposed his actual condition. Much the same state prevails with most Christians. They assume that they are “Born-Again,” are okay with God, and qualify to enter God’s Kingdom when their earthly life comes to an end because they have fulfilled certain religious rituals and traditions, because they are behaving in a certain way – as “Christians” are expected to behave, and they are fellowshipping with other Born-Again people. But their hearts have another tale to tell, they do not have hearts that are truly repentant and submitted to God, hearts that desire to glorify God; instead, they want to use God and godliness for worldly gain (1 Timothy 6:9).

    Lord is never fooled with these externals, and outward behavior; He knows them who are His; He knows the heart of every person; and to grow through His Word, one has to start by turning away from iniquity (John 2:24-25; 2 Timothy 2:19; 1 Peter 2:1-2), because with iniquity in a person’s heart, God will not listen to him (Psalm 66:18). Every Christian needs to check his actual condition of salvation and ascertain the state of his really being “Born-Again.” Any assumed state of being saved or Born-Again needs to be identified using the criteria given in 1 John 2:3-6. Notice here that the Lord is not asking for absolute holiness and perfection; He knows that we are dust (Psalm 103:14), and that we all keep falling into sin (1 John 1:8-10). What the Lord wants is a sincere repentance and submission to Him and a sincere desire to live in obedience to His Word, instead of carrying on in perfunctory external appearances and behavior. This false sense of being saved is another kind of “dead works” that brings no spiritual growth and maturity, therefore it needs to be repented off and rectified before it is too late.

    This incidence also illustrates the longsuffering of our Lord, and how He keeps giving everyone the chance to repent, turn back to Him, and be saved (2 Peter 3:9). But those who stubbornly continue to reject his call to repent and submit to Him, will then eventually have to accept the consequences of their persistent refusal to accept God’s mercy. We will carry on from here in the next article.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई आरंभिक बातों में से पहली, अर्थात मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराना को देखना आरम्भ किया था। हमने सीखा था कि “मरे हुए काम” वे भले और धार्मिक दिखने वाले काम हैं जो मसीही करते तो हैं, और अकसर बहुत श्रद्धा और भक्ति के साथ करते हैं, किन्तु उन के करने से उन मसीहियों के आत्मिक जीवनों में कोई उन्नति नहीं होती है, कोई परिपक्वता नहीं आती है। यद्यपि इस प्रकार के कार्य इस धारणा के साथ किए जाते हैं कि उन से मसीहियों को परमेश्वर से प्रशंसा और आशीष प्राप्त होगी, किन्तु मसीहियों के जीवन में वे व्यर्थ और निष्फल ही रहते हैं। ऐसा इसलिए होता है क्योंकि ये उन  के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा निर्धारित किए हुए कार्य नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे कार्य हैं जो उन मसीहियों ने अपनी ही कल्पना के अनुसार अपने लिए निर्धारित कर लिए हैं, और वे उन्हें अपनी ही बुद्धि और समझ के अनुसार करते हैं, न कि परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता में, और फिर उन कार्यों को परमेश्वर पर थोप देते हैं कि उन्हें उन के लिए प्रतिफल दिए जाएँ।

    अधिकांशतः ये कार्य शैतानी युक्तियाँ होते हैं जो मसीही को परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन और पालन करने से, तथा उनके लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा को समझने और जानने से दूर रखते हैं। बल्कि मसीहियों को बहका और भरमा कर उन्हें, परमेश्वर की आज्ञाओं के भेष में सिखाई जाने वाली मनुष्यों की आज्ञाओं तथा मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाए गए रीति-रिवाजों और परम्पराओं का पालन करने में डाल देते हैं। बाइबल हमें सिखाती है कि जो एकमात्र बात परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करती है वह है उसकी तथा उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता (व्यवस्थाविवरण 5:29; 1 शमूएल 15:22; यिर्मयाह 7:22-23)। परमेश्वर के नाम में किन्तु अपनी ही कल्पनाओं के अनुसार परन्तु की गई बातों से परमेश्वर बिल्कुल प्रसन्न नहीं होता है, चाहे वे धार्मिक, भक्तिपूर्ण, और भली ही क्यों न हों, और लोग उन्हें कितना भी क्यों ना सराहें। परमेश्वर ऐसे कामों के लिए कोई आशीष अथवा प्रतिफल नहीं देता है, वरन ऐसे काम, उन के करने वालों के लिए बहुत हानि उत्पन्न कर सकते हैं; और इसीलिए पहली आरंभिक बात है इस प्रकार के सभी कार्यों के करने से मन फिराना। आज से हम इसे बाइबल के कुछ उदाहरणों द्वारा देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

    इस प्रकार के अपनी ही कल्पना से किए गए, और न केवल व्यर्थ और निष्फल, वरन अनन्तकाल के लिए हानिकारक और विनाशक कामों का एक उदाहरण लोगों द्वारा स्वयं ही निर्धारित की गई वे सेवकाइयाँ हैं जिन्हें वे प्रभु के नाम में बड़े जोर-शोर और उत्साह से करते हैं (मत्ती 7:21-23)। प्रभु के “पहाड़ी उपदेश” से लिए गए इस खण्ड के लेख पर ध्यान कीजिए, प्रभु यीशु के स्वयं के शब्दों में, उन लोगों द्वारा की जा रही सेवकाइयाँ, अर्थात भविष्यवाणी करना, दुष्टात्माओं को निकालना, और अचम्भे के काम करना, ये सभी वास्तव में हुए थे। ये लोग प्रभु से यह नहीं कह रहे हैं कि उन्होंने उसके नाम में यह करने के प्रयास किये थे, बल्कि वे एक निश्चित कथन कह रहे हैं कि उन्होंने यह सब उसके नाम में किया, अर्थात वे यह सब करने में सफल रहे थे। साथ ही, उन्होंने यह सब प्रभु ही के नाम में किया था, न कि किसी अन्य देवी-देवता अथवा किसी व्यक्ति के नाम में, अपने नाम भी नहीं। लेकिन फिर भी उनके लिए प्रभु का उत्तर है “तब मैं उन से खुलकर कह दूंगा कि मैं ने तुम को कभी नहीं जाना, हे कुकर्म करने वालों, मेरे पास से चले जाओ” (मत्ती 7:23)। इतना सब करने के बाद भी प्रभु का उन से यह कहने का कारण मत्ती 7:21 में दिया गया है – ये काम पिता परमेश्वर की इच्छा में और उसके अनुसार नहीं किये गए थे। केवल वे ही जो परमेश्वर पिता की इच्छा के अनुसार चलते हैं, स्वर्ग में जाने पाएँगे; अन्य कोई नहीं, और अपने कामों के आधार पर तो कोई भी प्रवेश नहीं करेगा।

    यहाँ पर एक असमंजस हो सकता है कि प्रभु के नाम में इन लोगों के द्वारा ये कार्य करना कैसे संभव हुआ, और फिर भी उन्हें करने के लिए प्रभु ने उनकी सराहना नहीं की? उत्तर है कि शैतान के पास भी बड़े और सामर्थी काम करने की शक्ति है (2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:4, 9-10; प्रकाशितवाक्य 13:13-15)। शैतान ज्योतिर्मय स्वर्गदूत का रूप धारण कर के, और उसके लोग मसीह के झूठे प्रेरितों, छल से काम करने वाले, और धर्म के सेवक बनकर आते हैं (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15)। इन अपनी ही इच्छा और समझ के अनुसार काम करने वाले लोगों की सहायता शैतान और उसके लोग करते हैं कि वे आश्चर्यकर्म प्रतीत होने वाले ये कार्य इस गलतफहमी में रहते हुए करें कि वे परमेश्वर के लिए और परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य से ये काम कर रहे हैं। इस परिस्थिति से बचने का एकमात्र मार्ग है परमेश्वर के साथ एक निकट का संपर्क और वार्तालाप बनाए रखना, उसकी इच्छा को जानना और पहचानना (रोमियों 12:1-2), और परमेश्वर से जानना कि उसने उन के लिए कौन सा काम निर्धारित किया है (इफिसियों 2:10)। यह तब ही संभव है जब परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करने को प्राथमिकता दी जाए। जब लोग परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन में समय लगाते हैं, उसके वचन में होकर परमेश्वर के साथ वार्तालाप करते हैं, तब परमेश्वर पिता और प्रभु उनके साथ संगति करते हैं (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23)। प्रभु यीशु के सच्चे शिष्यों की यह प्रवृत्ति होती है कि वे उसके वचन में बने रहते हैं (1 यूहन्ना 2:3-5), और इससे वे सत्य को जान लेते हैं शैतान की युक्तियों से स्वतंत्र रहते हैं (यूहन्ना 8:31-32)। प्रभु के साथ संगति में बने रहने और परमेश्वर के वचन से भली-भाँति अवगत रहने के द्वारा मसीही न केवल शैतान द्वारा उन से वह करवाने से सुरक्षित रहेंगे जो परमेश्वर ने उन से करने के लिए नहीं कहा है, बल्कि यह भी जान लेंगे कि परमेश्वर क्या चाहता है कि वे करें, और क्या न करें। जो भी परमेश्वर की इच्छा में और उसके द्वारा निर्धारित तरीके से किया जाएगा, उस पर हमेशा परमेश्वर की आशीष होगी; शेष सब कुछ तिरस्कार कर के फेंक दिया जाएगा।

    यह एक प्रकार के “मरे हुए काम” हैं जिनसे सभी मसीहियों को मन फिराना है – अपनी ही इच्छा से स्वयं के लिए निर्धारित किये हुए कार्य, न कि परमेश्वर से पूछने, उसकी इच्छा पता पड़ने की प्रतीक्षा करने, और फिर वह करने के जो परमेश्वर करने को कहे। जो भी स्वयं को सही लगे उसे ही अपनी समझ के अनुसार करना, परमेश्वर को उसकी आज्ञाकारिता के द्वारा नहीं बल्कि अपने कार्यों से प्रभावित करने का प्रयास करना, और उसके वचन का अध्ययन करने तथा परमेश्वर की इच्छा जानने में उसके साथ समय न बिताना, असफलताओं और मुसीबतों को दावत देने की अचूक विधि है। अगले लेख में हम एक अन्य प्रकार के मरे हुए काम को देखेंगे जिस से मन फिराना है।

    In the previous article we began considering the first of the elementary principles given in Hebrews 6:1-2, i.e., repentance from dead works. We learnt that “dead works” are those seemingly religious and good works that a Christian Believer does, often very reverently and piously, but they do not in any manner contribute to his spiritual growth and maturity. Though these kinds of works are done trusting that they will gain the Believer the favor and blessings of God, but they remain vain and infructuous in the Christian Believers life. This is because these works are not God assigned for him, but are those that the Believer has presumptively decided for himself, and does them according to his own wisdom and understanding, instead of in obedience to God; and then imposes them upon God for rewards.

    More often than not, these are satanic ploys to keep the Believer involved in things that keep him away from studying and obeying God’s Word, and knowing God’s will for him. Instead, the Believer is beguiled into learning and obeying the commandments of men, following man-ordained religious rites and rituals, in the garb of God’s commandments. The Bible teaches us that the only thing that pleases God is obedience to Him and His Word (Deuteronomy 5:29; 1 Samuel 15:22; Jeremiah 7:22-23). God is not pleased with things done presumptively in His name, even though they may be religious, pious, and good works, and may even be well appreciated by the people. Such works and practices do not bring any blessings and rewards from God, but may cause great harm to those who do them; and hence the first elementary principle is to repent from all such works. We will see this illustrated through some Biblical examples from today.

    One category of such presumptive, and not just vain and fruitless but eternally harmful and destructive works are the various kinds of self-determined ministries carried out by many people with great fan-fare and enthusiasm in the name of the Lord (Matthew 7:21-23). Notice from the text of this passage, in the Lord Jesus’s own words, from the “Sermon on the Mount” that these ministries carried out by these people, i.e., prophesying, casting out demons, and doing many wonders, all of them did happen. These people are not saying to the Lord that “we tried or attempted to do them in your name;” rather they make a categorical statement that they carried them out in His name, were successful in doing all that they claimed. Moreover, they did them all in the name of the Lord, not in the name of any other deity or person, not even their own names, but in the name of the Lord Jesus. Yet, the Lord’s reply to them is, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:23; KJV translates it as ‘ye that work iniquity’ and NIV translates it as ‘you evildoers!’). The reason for the Lord’s saying this to them despite their doing these great things in His name is given in Matthew 7:21 – they were not done in and according to God’s will. Only those who do the will of God the Father shall enter heaven; no one else, and none will enter because of their works of any kind.

    There can be a confusion here, that how did these people manage to do such great works in the Lord name, and yet were not acknowledged by the Lord for doing them? The answer is because Satan too has powers to work great and mighty works (2 Thessalonians 2:4, 9-10; Revelation 13:13-15). Satan can come as an angel of light, and his people as false apostles of Christ, deceitful workers, ministers of righteousness, to beguile God’s people (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Satan and his people help the presumptuous people in doing these miraculous works, while people think and believe that they are doing the works with the power of God, for God. The only way to avoid this situation is to have a close fellowship and communication with God, to be able to learn His will (Romans 12:1-2), and learn from God, which of the works that He has kept for them (Ephesians 2:10) should they be doing. This can only happen by giving priority to studying God’s Word. When people spend time studying God’s Word, communing with God through His Word, then God the Father and the Lord will fellowship with them (John 14:21, 23). The true disciples of Lord Jesus make it a point to abide in His Word (1 John 2:3-5), and thereby the know the truth and be free (John 8:31-32) from the ploys of the devil. Because of his fellowship with the Lord and being well versed in God’s Word, the Believer will not only remain safe from being misled by Satan into presumptively doing things which God never asked them to do, but will also know what God wants him to do and what not to do. Whatever is done in God’s will, in the manner ordained by God, will always have God’s blessings; all the rest will be rejected and cast away.

    This is one category of “dead works” that all Believers need to repent from – working presumptuously instead of waiting upon God to find out what God has in mind for them, and then do that. Doing whatever seems appropriate to them by their own thinking, trying to impress God by their works instead of by their obedience to Him, and not spending proper time in studying God’s Word to know His will for them is a sure-shot way to disaster and failures. In the next article we will take up another kind of “dead work” to be repented from.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि कैसे इन आरंभिक बातों के अध्ययन का आरम्भ हमें परमेश्वर के दो गुणों, धीरज और निबाहने, को दिखाता है। यह मसीही विश्वासियों, प्रभु यीशु के अनुयायियों के सामने अनुसरण करने के लिए एक उदाहरण को रखता है कि किसी से भी जल्दी ही मुँह न फेर लें, बल्कि धीरज से उसके साथ निबाहते रहें, और उनकी सहायता करें, उनकी कमजोरियों में उन्हें संभालें और सिखाएं, और परमेश्वर अपने समय में लोगों को उसके राज्य और महिमा के लिए फलवन्त बना देगा। आज से हम इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में उल्लेखित छः आरम्भिक बातों में से पहली, “मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराना” के बारे में सीखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

    ध्यान कीजिए कि इब्रानियों 5:11-12 पर विचार करते समय हमने देखा था कि ये इब्रानी विश्वासी, उनके उद्धार पाने के समय के आधार पर उनसे रखी गई अपेक्षाओं से, किसी कारणवश बहुत बुरी तरह से पिछड़ गए थे। और अब वे जो भी कर रहे थे, वह उनकी आत्मिक उन्नति में कोई सहायता नहीं कर रहा था, बल्कि उन्हें उनके आत्मिक जीवनों में और पीछे खींच रहा था। साथ ही उस समय की परिस्थितियों पर भी विचार कीजिए; जैसा कि प्रेरित यूहन्ना ने लिखा है, “हे प्रियो, हर एक आत्मा की प्रतीति न करो: वरन आत्माओं को परखो, कि वे परमेश्वर की ओर से हैं कि नहीं; क्योंकि बहुत से झूठे भविष्यद्वक्ता जगत में निकल खड़े हुए हैं” (1 यूहन्ना 4:1; साथ ही 1 यूहन्ना 2:18 पर भी ध्यान कीजिए); और प्रेरित पौलुस ने 2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15 में सचेत किया है कि शैतान और उस के लोग कलीसियाओं में मसीह के झूठे प्रेरित, छल से काम करने वाले, धर्म के सेवक, और ज्योतिर्मय स्वर्गदूत का रूप धरकर घुस आते हैं। इस प्रकार से पहली कलीसिया के समय से लेकर आज तक भी, उस समय से लेकर जब लोग मसीही विश्वास में प्रभु के प्रेरितों द्वारा लाए और वचन सिखाए जा रहे थे, शैतान अपने लोगों को कलीसियाओं में घुसाने और गलत शिक्षाओं तथा झूठे सिद्धान्तों को सिखाने में लगा हुआ है, और लोगों को बहका और भरमा रहा है (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:3), कि वे वास्तविक मसीही विश्वास के और परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं के मानने वाले नहीं रहें। पौलुस गलतिया के विश्वासियों को बड़े दुःख के साथ लिखता है, “हे निर्बुद्धि गलतियों, किस ने तुम्हें मोह लिया है? तुम्हारी तो मानों आंखों के सामने यीशु मसीह क्रूस पर दिखाया गया!” (गलतियों 3:1); और “पर अब जो तुम ने परमेश्वर को पहचान लिया वरन परमेश्वर ने तुम को पहचाना, तो उन निर्बल और निकम्मी आदि-शिक्षा की बातों की ओर क्यों फिरते हो, जिन के तुम दोबारा दास होना चाहते हो? तुम दिनों और महीनों और नियत समयों और वर्षों को मानते हो। मैं तुम्हारे विषय में डरता हूं, कहीं ऐसा न हो, कि जो परिश्रम मैं ने तुम्हारे लिये किया है व्यर्थ ठहरे” (गलतियों 4:9-11)।

    इसलिए यह बाइबल की स्पष्ट शिक्षा है कि मसीहियत के आरम्भ से ही, शैतान सक्रिय होकर अपनी विभिन्न युक्तियों के द्वारा विश्वासियों को बहकाता और भरमाता आया है कि वे आत्मिक जीवन में उन्नति न करने पाएँ। शैतान की इन युक्तियों का आधार मसीही विश्वासियों को ऐसी बातों को करने में उलझा देना है जो उन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन और पालन करने से दूर रखें, ताकि वे सही आत्मिक खुराक प्राप्त न कर सकें। शैतान लोगों को भरमाता है कि अनेकों प्रकार के “धर्म के कार्यों” और भले कामों को करने के द्वारा, जिन में से अधिकाँश परमेश्वर की ओर से लोगों को सौंपे गए नहीं होते हैं, बल्कि लोगों ने स्वयं ही अपने लिए चुन और निर्धारित कर लिए होते हैं, वे परमेश्वर को प्रभावित करने पाएंगे, उससे प्रशंसा और आशीष प्राप्त कर लेंगे, जो कि बाइबल के अनुसार एक झूठी शिक्षा है। ये बहकाए और भरमाए हुए लोग यह एहसास नहीं करते हैं कि अदन की वाटिका के समय से ही, परमेश्वर ने केवल एक ही बात मनुष्य से चाही है कि वह परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की आज्ञाकारिता करे; और मनुष्य जब भी पाप में गिरा है, वह हमेशा इसी बात, परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की अनाज्ञाकारिता के कारण ही हुआ है, जो कि परमेश्वर के वचन के स्थान पर मनुष्य के वचन और मनुष्य के वचन की आज्ञाकारिता ले आने के कारण होता है। परमेश्वर के वचन के स्थान पर रखे गए मनुष्य के वचन और उनकी आज्ञाकारिता कभी भी परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य नहीं होती है; परमेश्वर उस से कभी प्रसन्न नहीं होता है (यशायाह 1:11-16 – इन पदों में परमेश्वर द्वारा ‘तुम्हारे’ के उपयोग पर विशेष ध्यान कीजिए), वे सभी व्यर्थ और निष्फल रहते हैं। यही वे “मरे हुए काम” हैं जिन्हें करने के लिए शैतान मसीही विश्वासियों को बहकाता और भरमाता है, परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता के स्थान पर उन बातों का पालन करवाता है। यही वह पहली आरंभिक बात है जिसे सीखना और जिसका पालन किया जाना चाहिए – प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उन से मन फिराना चाहिए – उन्हें पहचान और स्वीकार कर के, उन्हें पूर्णतः त्याग देना चाहिए, उनसे मुँह मोड़ लेना चाहिए; उन सभी “मरे हुए कामों” से अलग हो जाना चाहिए जो उसे परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन और पालन करने से रोकते हैं।

    अगले लेख में हम बाइबल से “मारे हुए कामों” के कुछ उदाहरणों को देखेंगे, जिन से पश्चाताप करने की आवश्यकता है; ऐसे काम जो उन लोगों के लिए समस्याओं और आशीषों को गँवाने का कारण बने, उन लोगों को लगता था कि उन बातों का पालन करने के द्वारा वे परमेश्वर की सेवा कर रहे हैं, किन्तु वास्तव में वे अनजाने में शैतान के कहे के अनुसार चल रहे थे।

The Elementary Principles – 5

Repentance From Dead Works - 1

 

    In the previous article, we have seen how the beginning of the study on the elementary principles shows patience and perseverance as attributes of God. This places before the Christian Believers, the followers of the Lord Jesus, an example to be followed; i.e., not to easily give up on anyone, but to be patient, persevere with them, help and nurture them through their weaknesses and short-comings, and God in His time, will make people bring fruit for His Kingdom and glory. Today we will start studying the first of the six elementary principles mentioned in Hebrews 6:1-2, i.e., “repentance from dead works.”

    When reading this phrase, often, the tendency is to concentrate only upon the first word – ‘repentance’ and assume what is written is about repenting from sins for salvation, or for being restored in fellowship with God. Instead, careful attention should be paid to the remaining parts of the phrase, and it should be seen what the phrase actually is saying. Remember, this letter has been written to Christian Believers; therefore, they have already been through the process of repenting from their sins to become the children of God. Also, as we have seen from Hebrews 5:11-14, the context is not their salvation, but their spiritual growth and maturity. These Hebrew Believers have slipped up in their spiritual growth, and declined so much that now they are like spiritually newly born children, and they need to be fed the ‘milk’ i.e., the basics of Christian faith. They have been Born-Again, they have come into the Christian faith, but now they need to be taught the basics of the faith and nurtured in their spiritual lives once again like newly Born-Again children of God. With this in mind, we can see that for them the mention of repentance cannot be the repentance for salvation; which is meant for the unbelievers. Therefore, let us look at the phrase of the first elementary principle again, it says “repentance from dead works.” Just as for salvation, to repent means to give up and totally turn away from the worldly and sinful life, similarly, the Holy Spirit, through the author of this letter, is appealing to the people of God, the children of God to repent, i.e., to give up and totally turn away from what they had got involved in doing, which was not helping, but only harming them.

    Recall that while considering Hebrews 5:11-12 we had seen that these Hebrew Believers, for some reason, had fallen terribly short of the expectations that were from them, according to their time since being saved. Now, whatever they were doing was not building them up spiritually, but was only pulling them down in their spiritual lives. Also consider the circumstances around them at that time; as the Apostle John says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1; see also 1 John 2:18); and the Apostle Paul has cautioned in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 that Satan and his people infiltrate the Church in the form of false apostles of Christ, deceitful workers, ministers of righteousness, angel of light etc. So, since the time of the first Church, and even within the Believers being brought into the Christian faith and being taught God’s Word through the Apostles, till today, Satan had infiltrated his people into the Church to spread false teachings, wrong doctrines, and beguile people away (2 Corinthians 11:3) from following the true Christian faith and the true teachings of God’s Word. Paul laments in Galatians 3:1 “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” and, “But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days and months and seasons and years. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain”).

    So, the teaching of the Bible is clear that from the very beginning of Christianity, Satan has been actively deceiving and beguiling the Believers, through his various ploys, so that the Believers do not grow spiritually. The mainstay of these satanic ploys is to entangle the Christian Believers in various other things that keep them away from studying and following God’s Word, and thereby not allow them to receive proper spiritual nourishment. Satan deceives people into thinking that by doing various “religious” activities and good works, most of which are not God given to them but are those that they have thought and planned out for themselves, they will be able to impress God, gain His favor and blessings; which is a Biblically false teaching. But what these beguiled people do not realise is that since the Garden of Eden, all God has wanted from man has only been obedience to Him and His Word; and whenever man has fallen away, he has fallen away because of disobeying God and substituting God’s Word, God’s instructions by man’s word and instructions. Man’s words and instructions replacing God’s Word and instructions, are never accepted and blessed by God; they never please God (Isaiah 1:11-16 – take not of the use of ‘your’ by God in these verses), they remain vain and fruitless. These are the “dead works” – the vain and fruitless works that Satan beguiles the Christian Believers into indulging in, at the cost of obeying God. This is the first elementary principle to be leant and followed – every Christian Believer should repent – acknowledge and totally turn away, totally reject all “dead works” and then stay away from all that keeps him from studying God’s Word and applying it in his life.

    In the next article we will see some examples from the Bible of the “dead works” that need to be repented of; works that brought problems and loss of blessings for those who thought they were serving God through them, but actually, unknowingly they had been obeying Satan through those works.
